Alright I'm going through shipping brainrot so y'all get some mariokong headcanons
• Dk grooms mario the same exact way apes irl do, it took a bit for mario to get used to it at first but eventually warmed up to it
• Mario teaches Dk how to speak Italian which Dk is surprisingly good at, on occasion mario will teach Dk to say something wildly inappropriate but will tell him it means something else
• And then when luigi hears Dk say whatever mario taught him he IMMEDIATELY corrects him
• Mario saw Dk attempt to cook something exactly once and now he's banned from the kitchen with very few exceptions
• This includes the microwave because dk can't even follow instructions on one of those boxes of microwaved dinners
• He's too impatient so he just removes the film (or doesn't) and puts it in for all the times on the box added together
• And then it comes out overcooked/burnt
• Bonus points if he manages to light it on fire
• Dk is surprisingly good at making kebabs and fruit smoothies of any kind
• Mario will gently run his fingers through Dk's fur when he thinks he's asleep
• Mario thinks Dk doesn't know this but he's fully aware of it
• Dk will pretend to be asleep sometimes just to get mario to do it
• Dk has always been really bad at watching/babysitting diddy and dixie kong, but despite this he's always put in charge anyway
• When mario heard about this he immediately offered to help dk watch them
• Dk gave mario SEVERAL warnings on how it would be a horrible idea
• Mario doesn't listen and helps anyway
• Dk is terrified at first but soon relaxes after mario seems to be doing surprisingly well with them
• At the end of the day diddy and dixie are so tuckered out that they fall asleep almost instantly
• Cue surprised pikachu face Dk
• Even cranky is surprised by this feat because even by jungle kingdom standards diddy and dixie are incredibly hard to deal with (aka adhd af)
• Eventually after awhile of dating, cranky pulls dk aside and says that he better not do anything stupid to end up losing mario, whether it's a break-up or outright death is up for interpretation (cranky definitely meant both)

Luigi x DK headcannons part 2
Tumblr media
-Both love to cuddle and snuggle up to each other, DK is just more open about and just snuggles whenever he wants to, while Luigi always nervously ask
-DK carries Luigi all the time and never lets him down, unless it's important or Luigi wants to be let go
-Luigi was DK's bi awakening
-DK was flexing his muscle at the end to impress Luigi
-DK tries to help Luigi with his fears but he doesn't succeed sadly
-Both suck on their thumbs if the sleep was that good....and maybe suck each others thumbs
-Both are huggers but Luigi is shy about it but DK does it wide armed and is loud with it
-Luigi loves cooking and makes DK meals, DK tried to make Luigi a meal once......yeah it didn't go well
-Luigi also loves playing with cards, and surprising he and DK play together, this is because DK would hang out with Swanky Kong who is all about games
-DK swings from vine to vine while carrying Luigi, though the green plumber is not a fan of it at all
-Donkey Kong tries to not be competitive whenever he and Luigi are against each other in any activity(Mario party, kart, sports games, etc), but he sometimes can't help it
-DK also purposely losses so Luigi can win
-Luigi is great at watching over Diddy, Dixie, Kiddy, and Tiny kong, DK can't understand it since they wear him out fast
-Luigi teaches DK Italian which takes the big monkey a very long time to learn

IT’S FINALLY DONE
I’ve been working on this for a while now and it is finally complete.
This is my take on the Donkey Kong characters redesigns, roles, small backstories, and personality traits (I did this out of boredom and I wanna share it cause there is rarely any art for some of my favorite Kong)
Tumblr media
Starting of strong with my homeboy, Funky Kong:
One of the most funkiest, talented, and chillest Kong’s you’ll ever meet! His smile shines like a sun just like his personality. He is crowned as King of the Jungle Kingdom with his little brother, Donkey Kong the Third. He is quite layback but he can be outgoing, funny, and loyal Kong you’ll ever met! However, with the many roles he plays in the kingdom, will he make room for one more role; a King?
Up next is the main kong himself, Donkey Kong the Third:
This energetic and daring Kong was crowned as Kong of the Jungle Kingdom alongside Funky Kong, his older brother. He doesn’t take his role as King seriously like Funky does, so his grandfather, Cranky Kong, and grandmother, Wrinkly Kong, will have to teach him the responsibilities of being royalty. Will Donkey Kong take his role as King seriously? Who knows.
Well known as the female version of a power house in the Kingdom, Candy Kong herself:
Candy Kong is Donkey Kong’s lover. She is the first strongest and tallest woman in the Jungle Kingdom thanks to her father’s genes and training. She is adventurous, outgoing, and very curious. Unfortunately for her and her mother, they are the only survivors of their specie so they have to be very cautious about the Kong’s they talk to at the daily basis. This cause her not developing any social skills since she’s been quarantined for all her life, but now she is free to do whatever she wants after some convincing towards her father.
Tumblr media
Now we got the little rascals of the crew;
The small red Kong is non other than Diddy Kong:
He is the Kong you will have fun when it comes to hangouts with the other younger Kongs. He is a good-natured, helpful, and very loyal towards his friends and family. He can be clumsy, but that won’t stop him for being himself around the Kongs he love to hang out. He is also the son of Funky Kong and Swanky Kong, making Donkey Kong his uncle.
The most chaotic female Kong you’ll ever meet, her name is Tiny Kong:
She is very and I mean very playful, a bit destructive, communicative, and kind-hearted Kong out of the crew. She works at a bar and loves to create machinery with her partner in crime, Funky Kong. She is the younger sister of Dixie Kong, who she respects entirely. Although, she does give Dixie a hard time since she is very chaotic.
One of the most matured Kong at her young age, it’s the girlboss herself Dixie Kong:
She is known as the mature, reliable, and open-minded Kong from the other Kongs, besides Funky Kong. She also works for Funky but at his mechanic work place; helping him organizing, fixing, and creating vehicles. She is the oldest sister of Tiny Kong, but struggles sometimes with that role because of Tiny’s chaotic nature.
Tumblr media
Lastly, we got the final members of the crew!
The Man of the Hour, the richest Kong in the Kingdom, The one and only Swanky Kong:
He may turn out as sarcastic, hostile, and hot-headed at first, but once he warms up he can be trustworthy, loyal, and honest… sometimes brutally honest. He is an entrepreneur and a game host in the kingdom. He is in charge with the entertainment and the businesses around the kingdom.
The Gentle Giant himself, Chunky Kong:
Out of all the Kong’s in the crew, he is gentle, shy, introverted, and caring Kong out of all of them. Even though he is gentle, he can be protective towards his friends and family and will choose violence if it’s necessary. He is the cousin of Dixie Kong and Tiny Kong and the older brother of Kiddy Kong.
Everyone’s Favorite Playful Kong, Lanky Kong:
He is very playful, friendly, and high-spirited Kong in the crew. He loves swinging himself around hang outs and playing harmless pranks on others. He doesn’t remember where he came from since he is the only orange kong in the Kingdom, but he doesn’t really mind at all. He was the one that came up with the idea of making friendship bracelets and ended up having every single crew members bracelets, which he plans on never taking it off.
—————————————————————————
Bonus Art:
Since we are in Pride Month, I drew Funky Kong and Swanky Kong together (I headcanon them to be a gay married couple).

I know Valentines Day was over but I just want to let this one out of my chest of Diddy x Dixie in my AU.
It was valentines day and Diddy Kong just left his home getting something for Dixie who he's been dating recently while his big buddy and uncle is spending Valentines day with Candy Kong. While Lexie was hanging with Tiny, Dixie was about to leave her home to get something for Valentines Day. Tiny the sneaky one she is decides to go check it out. Lexie tells Tiny it was a bad idea but Tiny replies that Dixie might be hiding something from her. Confused but curious, Lexie tags along. At the Jungle of Kongo Bongo, Tiny and Lexie sneaks behind the log to see Diddy holding some flowers and Dixie was holding a box of Banana Chocolates. Diddy was quite shy and very nervous despite trying his best not to embrace her. But then Dixie has kissed Diddy show how much a lovely and silly he is. Dixie really loved that silly dork.
Fact: Tiny and Lexie at the back of the log was surprised and realized that Diddy and Dixie are in love with each other.

Details about the Donkey Kong expansion for Super Nintendo World have finally been shown off, and as I expected, there are sadly no nods to the Kremlings or anything that wasn't present in the contemporary Retro Studios Donkey Kong games.
It's hard to be a fan of DK right now especially if you're from the old guard that loved Rare era DK and hate to see their contributions to DK stripped away, it's cool that Diddy, Dixie, Cranky, Funky Squawks and Funky are still around. But their absence never should have been felt to begin with, and there is still so much missing from Rare era DK, the Kremlings are the biggest ones but it's not just them, it's the animal buddies, it's a bunch of supporting characters, and it's a writing style.
But call this massive copium, but I found Super Nintendo World to mostly just be a bunch of lip service to New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 3D World, AKA the most basic ass white bread unexciting sanitized standardized version of Mario we had been eating for years. There were none of Mario's lesser known cast, no acknowledgements to any specific games, just general Super Mario and Mario Kart merchandise... little did I know, Nintendo Nintendo was currently cooking a Mario reneissance with the movie, the best most creative 2D Mario in decades, and remakes of two of the best damn RPGs that preserve a style that would be unthinkable now, and a new Princess Peach game that has a fresh new concept.
So I don't find the lack of pre-Retro Studios characters that disheartening for the future of DK games. If anything the presence of the Donkey Kong Country branding does ease one fear of mine that they were trying to Mario-fy DK, what with those rumors that they wanted Donkey Kong to return to his roots and ditch the "country" series entirely. But it does give me hope that an actual legit new Donkey Kong game could still be in the works with new and familiar faces, and fresh ideas. I mean obviously a game ( Besides Mario vs Donkey Kong ) is in the works, they would not be putting DK in the movie as much as they did, and building theme park expansions centered around DK, and returning the DK line of Jakks Pacific toys only to just do nothing with Donkey Kong.

hello, dear. i wanted to request some Donkey Kong content based around the idea of headcanons with Reader meeting DK's family for the first time. Would Cranky like them? Diddy, Dixie and Funky?
OR
maybe reader is given their very own kart as a courting gift from Donkey Kong? and just sweet fluff, and maybe they go for a test drive?
which ever you pick, i'll be so hyped to read it! thank you and happy writing!
I'll try to do both separately. <3 This one is gonna be the meeting family headcanons, and I'll do the other request in a separate post. I hope that's alright.
Meeting Donkey Kong's Family
Donkey Kong x Reader Headcanons
Oh boy.
Cranky Kong was NOT happy, to say the least.
He was very suspicious of you and protective of his son.
However, as time went by, he got used to you.
He is still a bit iffy about you and Donkey Kong being together, but he decided to just deal with it.
Diddy Kong would be EXCITED!
He'd have a new friend to hang out with!
I don't know squat about Dixie Kong, but I feel like she would ship you two so hard.
Funky Kong would be chill with it, just as long as you don't hurt DK.

Mini Fanfic #474: The Kongs and Friends Plays Some Donkey Kong Country (SSBU)
Diddy/DK: (Excitedly Made Their Way into the Mansion's Living) Guys! Guys! You would not believe what we got! Oh my god!
Kazooie: (Texting While Laying the Back of her Head On Banjo's Shoulder, Rolling her Eyes) Please don't tell me it's a year supply of bananas again.....
DK: ('Scoffs') No, Kazooie. We didn't get another box of bananas. (Yet.....)
Banjo: What is it, you guys?
Diddy: Check it out! (Excitedly Shows Banjo and Kazooie Three SNES Gaming Cartridges) Video Games of our past adventures!! Donkey Kong Country!
Banjo: (Already in Awe at the Sight of the Cartridges) Woah........
Kazooie: The whole trilogy, huh? (Smirk a Little) Neat. I take it you guys got from a nearby game store?
DK: (Nodded Excitedly) It was laying around there with our faces on it. Of course we had to buy these bad boys and play them here!
Diddy: I'm already seeing it now..... Zapping across jungle to jungle, pulverizing K. Rool and Kremlings in their own game, and all while obtaining the best reward ever known to men.....
DK: (Pumps Two of his Fist into the Air) Our Bananas Hoard!!!
Kazooie: (Rolls Her Eyes Once More) Ah yes. How can we ever forget your obsession of keeping a cave full of uneaten bananas safe?
DK: ('Scoffs') Honestly.... I'm not that obsessed over it. I'll have you know that our banana hoards are in good hands.............(Whispers into Diddy's Ear) Diddy, remind me to call Cranky later.....
Diddy: We'll worry about all of that later, big guy. Let's just set back and play our games for now, yeah?
DK: (Sighs in Defeat before Slowly Smiling) Yeah.... You're right, little buddy. I mean, these are our games we're playing here! It just might be the best thing ever known to-
Couple of Levels Later.......
DK: (Eyes Widened) .......Well.......(Let his Controller Drop) That was something....
Diddy: Geez....I know we expected a challenge, but I had no idea this would be this hard.........
Kazooie: (Shrugged) Maybe it's because of difficulty spike curve....
Diddy: Maybe.....
Banjo: (Turns to DK) Were your adventures back in the day was always this hard and intense or......
DK: Nah. I don't think so, Banjo my mam. I mean, sure, we may have gotten into some neat death situations here and there, but we always made it through..... Somehow. B-But you know, maybe I'm just getting a bit rusty here. (Picks Back up.his Controller) I'm sure in a couple of Levels, I'll be just-
More Levels Later........
DK: (Throws the Controller Down in Frustration) Damnit!! So close!
Diddy: Kazooie, I think you were right about this game having difficulty spike curves.......
Game Over Shows up on Screen
Diddy: (Pouts at the Game Over Screen) Ah man....We already got Game Over and everything....
DK: I know, right? I don't remember any of us getting beaten up like that!
Banjo: (Frowns Sadly at the Screen) Aww..... You guys look so sad and hurt in the screen.....
Diddy: (Hugs Banjo Arm on his Side) Don't worry, buddy. We're here. We're okay.
Kazooie: (Gently and Affectionately Ruffles the top of Banjo's Hair on her Side) Yeah, 'hon. Try not to let it get to you, okay?
Banjo: ('Sniff') Okay.
DK: ('Sigh') You know what? Forget this. (Takes the First DK Out of the SNES) I don't need to beat this game to prove I beat K. Rool where he stand. (Smiles Proudly while Chuckling) I Banana Slamma'd that crazy croc out of that ship so hard that he might've saw stars!
Diddy: (Gives DK an Unimpressed Look) Not funny, big guy.
Kazooie: (Gives DK an Unimpressed Look as Well) Didn't even make us chuckle.
DK: ('Ugh') Whatever. Can we just play the next game now?
Diddy: Alright....(Picks up the Next Game From the Coffee Table and Takes a Quick Look at it) Huh. Looks like my game's up next.
Kazooie: Your game?
Diddy: (Smiles Brightly) Yep. My Quest! (Chuckles Lightly) I'm guessing it was when Dixie and I saved DK from K. Rool and his actual band of pirates.
Banjo: Who's Dixie?
Diddy: My cute girlfriend.
Banjo/Kazooie: (Eyes Widened Genuinely Surprised) Girlfriend?
Kazooie: (Gives Diddy a Playful Smirk) Well, I be damned, Diddy. We didn't know you got yourself a Lady-Friend?~
Diddy: (Chuckles Lightly while Blushing a Little) Yeah..... We've been dating for a long while now, you know? You guys should meet her. She's so cool.
Banjo: (Smiles Brightly) I wouldn't mind that in the sightest, my friend.
Kazooie: Double Date it is then. But before we do anything else....(Turns to Donkey Kong) I wanna know how this gorilla right here got himself kidnapped.
DK: Hey! It's not like I wanted to get myself captured or anything. It happened out of nowhere!.....Or at least I think that what happened....
Diddy: I'm sure we can worry about all of that later, you guys. Right now, I wanna see how this baby plays out. (Put the Game into the System) And who knows? Maybe this one might be a little more easier than the first one-
Few Levels Later.....
Diddy: Never mind. (Let his Controller Drop on the Floor) It's not even close of being easy.
DK: (Picks the Controller Up) Relax, little buddy. This guy got this-
Three Levels Later-
DK: This game is even harder than the first one! (Throws the Controller Down in Frustration) How is that even possible?!!
Kazooie: They really wanted to give you an actual challenge, huh?
Diddy: ('Sigh') Let's just get to the final game of the trilogy already.....(Picks up the Final Cartridge from the Table and Takes a Look at it) Looks like Dixie's the main character in this one. It's called "Dixie Kong's Double Trouble"
Banjo: (Noticed another Kong right beside Dixie on the Cartridge) Who's the fella over there?
Diddy: Oh that's Kiddy Kong. Dixie's younger cousin I think?
DK: Ah man. Diddy, I remember now. This was when those saved us from K. Rool that one time.
Kazooie: (Slowly but Surely Turn to Donkey in a Somewhat Irritated Look) How the hell did you got yourself kidnapped by a narcissist of a king TWICE in a row?
DK: I-
Kazooie: I mean, I can understand why he kidnapped Diddy since he's a bit if a pipsqueak.....
Diddy: Hey!
Kazooie: But you?!....... You're supposed to be the Biggest, Fastest, and Strongest member of the DK crew! Or at that's what your stupid rap song says about you!!
DK: (Glares at Kazooie) Hey! I am all those things! And the DK Rap is the best rap song ever known to man! I worked hard writing the lyrics and everything!
Banjo: Guys, come on. Knock it off. (Turns to Kazooie) Kazooie don't be hard on him for this.
DK: Tell her, Banjo!
Banjo: There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a Damsel in Distress.
DK: Yeah!- Wait. WHAT?! Banjo, I ain't a Damsel in Distress! I'm practically the kings of the jungles!!
Kazooie: (Rolled her Eyes) Highly doubt that the "King of the Jungles" would ever get himself kidnapped by a crocodile twice. Let alone someone who's supposedly punch a moon out of orbit once. ('Scoffs') Probably made that one up too.
DK: REALLY!!!
And with that, DK and Kazooie began to argue with one another, with Banjo trying to calm them down in between.
Diddy: ('Sigh') Welp. This is already a disaster.
'Cellphone Rang'
Diddy: (Picks up his Phone from the Table and Takes the Call) Yello?
???: (From the Other Line) Hello? Diddy?
Diddy: (Smiles Brightly once He Immediately Recognize that Voice) Dixie! Is that really you?!
Dixie: (Giggles Softly) In the flesh~ How ya doing, 'hon?
Diddy: Pretty good, not gonna lie. How about you and the jungle?
Dixie: We're doing good at our end. Not a lot of Kremlings set foot here lately. So that's a good thing.
Diddy: You kidding? That's great news! This place can gain a lot more bananas than it did before.
Dixie: (Giggles Once More) Yeah. That would be pretty great. Speaking of which, how's DK doing lately?
Diddy: (Takes One Look at Donkey Kong, Still Arguing with Kazooie, Before Looking Away) It's doing fine. Oh! Dixie, I meant to tell you. There's these two friends I really want you to meet someday.
Dixie: Really now?
Diddy: Yep! Their names are Banjo and Kazooie. I told how cool you are and everything.
Dixie: Aww~ Diddy, that's sweet~ Buuuuut if you ask me, I think you're pretty cool too, ya know?~
Diddy: (Giggles While Blushing) You're too kind sometimes, Dix~
Dixie: Thanks~ Hey. Diddy?.....
Diddy: Hm?
Dixie: I miss you so much.
Diddy: I miss you too, Dixie. A lot more than I thought I would actually. But don't you worry. I'll come by and give you a visit first thing tomorrow!
Dixie: Really? That's awesome, but.... how are you going to do that?
Diddy: We have these Dimensional Rings where we could visit any place we want. I can ask the princess to let me borrow it for the day so I can see you.
Dixie: Oh my gosh! This is even more better than I thought!~ I can't wait to see you again, Diddy-Kins!~
Diddy: (Smiles Softly) Me too, Dix. Me too.

Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to my blog! I’m a massive Super Smash Bros. fan, but there are a ton of games represented in Smash that I’ve never played, but I really want to but have had a little bit of trouble finding the motivation to play them.
So, i figured the best way to go about this is to play them while documenting it here on this blog. I figured if it might also entertains other people then that’s great! I know i’m almost certainly not the first person to do this, but i wanted to share my experiences with these games on this blog.
I should also note i won’t be 100% completing these games. this is already going to be a pretty big undertaking, and there are some games I’d rather not complete just because they’re a pain in the ass, frankly. I will make it to the end of them (defeat the final boss and all that) but no promises about doing EVERYTHING in each of these games.

So there are some reincarnation romances ?
It's hard to say. Most relationships do remain the same, with Luigi and Daisy sticking together a lot of the time. Sane with Diddy and Dixie, DK with Candy, and so on.
Mario, Peach, and Bowser were in an odd triangle for the longest time, with sometimes Mario x Peach or Peach x Bowser. The inclusion of Pauline and new star child Fritz being there to earn Peach's attention though may mean that Mario x Bowser may become a more common in the future... but Rosalina herself can never be sure. She is often pleasantly surprised when things deviate from noticed norms each reincarnation.
(So while there are common ones like you'd expect... every Mario ship within reason can technically be canon in this universe because of the reincarnation aspect.)

15 Best SNES Platformers Ever
https://ift.tt/2UzmXAm
Platformers have long been an entry point for new gamers. Video games may have greatly expanded in scope over the years and now offer so many different genres and experiences that it’s nearly impossible to keep track of them, but that’s actually a big part of the reason why it’s still so much fun to look back at these timeless games where the main objective was often to simply jump from one place to the next.
There is no console that celebrated the brilliance of the platformer better than the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The SNES may be best known for expanding the adventure and RPG genres, as well as raising a generation’s expectations for video game graphics, but few consoles have come close to rivaling the Super Nintendo’s library of classic platforming titles.
It’s hard to narrow this list down to just 15 games, but from action-based platformers to pure platforming classics, these are the best examples of this timeless genre that the SNES gifted the gaming world.
15. Jelly Boy
Putting you in control of a jelly baby (a candy that is popular in the U.K. and surrounding areas), Jelly Boy was only released in Europe when it debuted in 1994. The game has a colorful aesthetic and some unique platforming elements built around the main character’s ability to transform into a myriad of vehicles, tools, and other objects. Those metamorphoses will be familiar to anyone who has played a Wario Land title or Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
Admittedly, Jelly Boy‘s mechanics can be a little clunky and the controls are deficient compared to some of the later games on this list. Still, you will be hard-pressed to find a more original platformer on the console that isn’t made by Nintendo themselves. You can even play it now via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
14. Demon’s Crest
Released by Capcom in 1994 as the third game featuring the character Firebrand (who debuted in the Ghosts ‘n Goblins series), Demon’s Crest is a forgotten gem in the SNES catalog. It adds some variety to the traditional action-platformer by giving the playable protagonist the ability to fly and shoot fireballs as well as access other upgradeable attacks and maneuvers as their quest rolls along. That feature adds a little Zelda-like adventuring to the mix, and you’ll certainly need those late-game power-ups because this platformer means business.
There are many difficult platformers on this list, but few boast the plethora of boss battles seen in this one. It’s actually similar to Mega Man in terms of its fighting style and jumping requirements, so if you are looking for an alternative to the Blue Bomber that keeps the basics of the genre intact, you’ll have a hard time doing better than Demon’s Crest.
13. Joe & Mac
Joe & Mac is honestly a fairly basic platformer for its era. What gets it onto this list of the best games in that genre, though, is the creativity and execution of its setting.
The game sees you control two different cavemen who rely on basic prehistoric items such as fire, bats, bones, etc. The bosses are pretty cool (dinosaurs are fun for all ages) and the controls hold up well enough that you won’t ever feel like you have to force the avatar into doing something that the interface simply won’t allow for. The game spawned a sequel that was also released on SNES, but the original is unique enough to get the nod here.
12. Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
Despite what the title may suggest, Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts is actually the third game in the Ghosts ‘n Goblins series. Like the previous games, this classic sees you battle various monsters and bosses that fit the setting nicely. Although the game is maybe a little too action-heavy to get the nod over the SNES’ best platformers, it uses its platforming elements to elevate the entire experience.
The difficulty is insanely high and the sheer amount of sprites on screen at once can lead to some lag that only adds to the frustrations of this arduous journey, but the game has a way of keeping things light and humorous when the frustration sets in. How many other games see the protagonist stripped of their armor, quite literally, when he takes too many hits?
11. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!
The third installment in the beloved Donkey Kong Country trilogy certainly isn’t hated by many, but it is usually viewed as a step down from the first two games. Whether that has to do with a change in composer for the soundtrack, the inability to play as Donkey or Diddy, or the fact it was released after the Nintendo 64 was on the market, the title’s sometimes mixed reputation often prevents it from being appreciated as a divine platforming experience.
The environments and storytelling in this game are well-executed. If you’re observant, you may even notice that the developers were trying to say something about the sad state of ape habitats and pollution in the wild. Even if you didn’t dive too deep into that surprising bit of social commentary, you’ll likely find that the platforming in this one remains top-notch and that the overall experience remains severely underrated.
10. DoReMi Fantasy: Milon’s DokiDoki Adventure
As the only game on this list that wasn’t initially released outside of Japan, many gamers may not know that DoReMi Fantasy is a whimsical experience that features some of the key elements of Mario and Kirby’s best adventures in terms of gameplay and graphics. Starring a young child whose objective is to reclaim music for the forest, DoReMi utilizes some clever puzzles that may not be unusual for the platformer genre but certainly add to the fun.
The game got a Virtual Console release in North America in 2008, but that’s sadly the best chance many gamers have had in recent years to take a chance on this title. It’s a great example of how people should be more open to experiencing games that weren’t localized the first time around.
9. Donkey Kong Country
Perhaps the most famous game starring Nintendo’s lovable ape, the original Donkey Kong Country was Rare’s first big title for the SNES and practically started their decade-plus long relationship as a second-party developer with the Big N. Tasked with showing off off the console’s pre-rendered graphics system, the crew from Britain proved to be up to the task. Honestly, this game still looks halfway decent in 2021.
While the actual platforming is not as good as the Super Mario games on the SNES, it offered a different flavor of jumping that is still very much appreciated. The “weight” of Donkey Kong and Diddy means that the platforming is less flighty than in Super Mario games, and the rideable animal buddies you encounter along the way add a little flair to the experience.
8. ActRaiser
As a game that serves as both an action-platformer and a God simulator, this underrated and forgotten gem from Enix and developer Quintet showed off the visual and audio capabilities of the SNES in the early days of the console. You play as the “Master” who is tasked with building towns around the world and fending off the evils that threaten them. It’s hard to juggle two completely different genres like that, but ActRaiser finds a great balance.
The game was re-released for the Wii Virtual Console in 2007 but has otherwise been paid little attention in the years since its release. That’s unfortunate because there aren’t many games from 30 years ago that provide this much depth and versatility. Both parts of the experience are extremely solid in their own right, and together add up to become something truly special.

7. Kirby Super Star
Even the most ardent Kirby fans would probably agree that the franchise can get a little stale at times. There are only so many ways Kirby can suck an enemy up, transform his powers to match theirs, and ultimately defeat King Dedede. That’s why Kirby Super Star is still arguably the best game that the pink cutie pie has ever starred in.
Featuring eight different games within the game, the genre-mixing in this one is really off the charts. There are racing elements, adventure tones, and shooting sequences amongst the different sections of the playthrough. The experience was so beloved that it was eventually remade for the Nintendo DS as Kirby Super Star Deluxe. There is something for everyone in this package, and it shows the best parts of Kirby’s history.
6. Mega Man X
The original run of NES Mega Man titles are arguably still more famous than all of the others, but Mega Man X just has more of what makes those games great. It retains the eight bosses and weapon upgrades that can be completed/acquired in whatever order the player chooses, and it even has that same incredible soundtrack that the Blue Bomber’s adventures are always famous for.
Mega Man X‘s graphical upgrades admittedly take some of that eight-bit nostalgia out of the experience, but the game ultimately makes up for it by offering new gameplay experiences. Jumping on walls and acquiring upgrades to defensive maneuvers gives Mega Man an even more badass skillset, and the game generally does an excellent job of emphasizing the “platforming” parts of its action-platformer mix.
5. Super Castlevania 4
Super Castlevania 4 is actually a kind of soft remake of the original game, and the developers at Konami did a great job of making that game more digestible for newcomers while keeping all of the iconic elements from the classic NES title.
The Castlevania basics are all here (you still control Simon Belmont, equipped with his famous whip and ax, and battle through the game’s 11 stages before reaching Dracula), but an ideal mix of combat and platforming makes this one of the most irreplaceable platformers in the SNES catalog. It’s still an airtight action-platformer experience in 2021.
4. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest
The second game in the DKC trilogy took all of the best parts of the first title and refined them to create a truly unique platforming game that was a lot more than fancy graphics (a reputation the original game has had a hard time shaking). Diddy’s Kong Quest expanded upon the game design that fans loved while keeping the jungle hijinx, masterful soundtrack, and weighted platforming intact.
That last part is what truly separates the middle installment of this franchise from the other two. Many people have said that these games were sometimes more style than substance, but after playing through the myriad of environments on display in DKC 2, it becomes clear that this title has endured over the years because its tight mechanics are executed at a high level.
3. Super Metroid
If this list were just a ranking of 2D games or if it encapsulated the entire SNES library regardless of genre, Super Metroid would most likely take the top spot. Alas, this icon of game design settles in the third spot because it isn’t the best example of a “pure platformer.” It’s more of an action/adventure affair, though the game’s platforming elements are still as satisfying now as they were in the 1990s.
What separates this game from so many that have tried to emulate it in the nearly three decades since release is that every ability upgrade and every part of the map fits together with nearly flawless foresight and execution. It’s never a hassle to re-explore a section that you’ve already seen. The game has a masterful flow that is incredibly modern and perhaps even more popular today because of the prominence of this design style on the indie game scene.
2. Super Mario World
With its flawless controls, colorful sprites, cheerful soundtrack, and ageless platforming, Super Mario World is the title that all other 2D games in the genre are still compared to. The extra graphical power of the SNES gave Nintendo the opportunity to expand upon Super Mario Bros. 3‘s best ideas while exploring new concepts that simply weren’t possible before.
That is why this game remains so playable. Super Mario World combines the most enjoyable elements of the NES Super Mario classics and then elevates them to fully realize the world that Miyamoto imagined when this basic concept was created. It still doesn’t make sense to have a plumber jumping on top of turtles and occasionally getting lost inside of a house full of ghosts (those damn Boo mansions still haunt me), but when you combine this much creativity into one package, you have no choice but to admit how special it all is.
1. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Shigeru Miyamoto and his team knew that it was futile to try and surpass Super Mario World simply by emulating it. So when developing the sequel, they made the decision to craft an entirely different type of platformer in which Mario isn’t even the main protagonist. The concept was bold, but the execution needed to be flawless if the game was ever going to be more than another disappointing follow-up.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
It’s safe to say Yoshi’s Island exceeded all expectations. Putting Yoshi at the forefront of a platformer that included mini-games, evasion, puzzle-solving, item collection, and the most timeless color palette in gaming history was brilliance personified. Yoshi’s Island is not as famous as its older sibling, but its daring creativity and irreplaceable charm have inspired many to argue that it is the better game in retrospect. Whatever your opinion is, the fun and escapism of the green dinosaur’s finest hour (as well as the horrors of Baby Mario’s screams) will be remembered until the end of gaming.

The Super Mario Cast with Pokemon Teams
Just something my brother and I came up with a long time ago. There’s some clear themeing going on, especially when we get to the Kongs, but the only ones I’ll reveal right off the bat are that all of the royal characters(and Donkey Kong) have a legendary, and I deliberately gave Waluigi five Pokemon instead of a full team of six.
I’m also only listing their main team of six(if they have enough for a full team) because if I tried to think of every Pokemon each character would ever catch I’d never finish the list.
One of these “>” indicates that a Pokemon has evolved over the course of their adventures. They used to be color-coded too so I could show if a Pokemon was caught during an adventure, but Tumblr hates Google Docs formatting.

Mario Super Sluggers: Theoretical Human AU!
DISCLAIMER: By Human AU, I mean that all the playable characters are human (which seems sort of obvious to me, but you never know)! As such, they live as long as your average human lives in a non-harmful environment.
With that noted, well... as Mario would say, “Let’s-A Go!”
Captains:
Mario & Luigi: Mid-late 20s, maybe early 30s. Old enough to have the mustaches, but young enough to seem young. They run their unfortunately deceased fathers’ plumbing business.
Peach & Daisy: 2-3 years younger than Mario and Luigi tops. Working to inherit their families’ crazy rich companies - the Toadstools run a produce business, the Sarasas sell gardening supplies.
Yoshi & Birdo: Yoshi is midway in their teenage years, about 14 to 16 years old. Birdo is a little older, but still a minor (16-17). Yoshi x Birdo. Each of their families run rival diners, and Mario is a family friend of the Munchakupas family (slightly edited last name of Yoshi).
Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong: Donkey Kong is a young adult (early-mid 20s). He takes care of his nephew Diddy (13-15), and makes money by helping his family in their businesses here and there. A former criminal who turned his life around after his old team killed his grandfather without him knowing, he occasionally helps the police in their fight against his old team - the Kremlings to atone. The fuzz don’t know he was one of them.
Wario, & Waluigi: Wario and Waluigi are a bit older than the Mario Brothers, but not by much. Late 20s to mid-30s. Salesmen and occasional thieves/robbers/et cetera when desperate.
Bowser & Bowser Junior: Leader of the closest thing Toadstool and Sarasa have to a rival company, the Darklin family run the leading business for meat and general grill-based items. Tensions are high between the three companies (well, just for the Darklin - Dr. Isaac “Dry” Darklin pales before the other two), and when the boss has enough of not being number one, he has his personal blackmailed bodyguard/hitman Bowser Koopa (mid 30s to early 40s) go to eliminate Peach & Daisy (that, or his preteen Junior gets it). Mario and Luigi, who were called to fix something (there was nobody else open and not rude), notice and step in. Although he gets away, they still are rewarded for more than the plumbing job. Word spreads of the “Super Mario Brothers,” and from there, things get better and worse for all parties involved.
Minor Characters (assume all multicolored characters are about the same age):
Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, & Baby DK : Nonexistent in this AU. Maybe flashbacks?
Toads: Workers at Toadstool and Sarasa. If you look around the hotel for all of them, you’ll usually see 5 of them at most.
Toadette: Toadette is Sarasa’s Head of Staff.
Toadsworth: Toadsworth is Toadstool’s Head of Staff, as well as Peach’s personal assistant and teacher.
Piantas and Nokis: Mario Brothers’ neighbors. Three brothers and three sisters
Dixie Kong, Funky Kong & Tiny Kong: Diddy Kong’s girlfriend. Dixie met Diddy when DK saved her and the other two from the Kremlings (though they lost not only family members Chunky & Kiddy but close ones such as Bluster and Lanky). Sharing the same last name is actually coincidental.
King K. Rool & Kritters: Leader and lower members of the Kremlings. K. Rool always butted heads with DK before K. Rool became leader. Responsible enough to put their differences beside them... for a while; then he tried to have DK offed. DK lived, of course.
Goomba, Koopas, Paratroopas, & Paragoomba: Used to work for Darklin in its dirtier deeds, but now freelance in crime as hired workers. Often seen working with the Wario Duo, these 6 have a weird dislike for the Kremlings (with the even weirder exception of Donkey Kong; they secretly make sure anyone after the Kongs or their close ones are dealt with). Paratroopas and Paragoomba often work as messengers and part-time at the post office for honest work.
Magikoopas: You might think they have a religious role, what with the robes and all. WRONG! They’re scientists for Darklin. Led by the one known as Kamek, they’re known as the Magikoopas because Bowser introduced them to Dry and their ability to accomplish crazy scientific feats. They aren’t actually part of the Koopa family, however; Bowser is merely longtime friends with Kamek, and rumors spread. Bowser still isn’t entirely sure if they actually know/use magic or not. Unlike Bowser, they willingly work with Darklin, as he provides means for their experiments, and that difference threatens to divide the old friends in the end.
Dry Bones, Blue, Green, and Dark Bones: Dry’s kids who were lost in an accident. The scientific skill isn’t the only reason Dry hired the Magikoopas...
Boo & King Boo: The security team for Sarasa which Daisy occasionally lends to Toadstool, the Boos are brought in after Bowser’s attack. When on break, they like to pull harmless and wisely-targeted pranks on Luigi while he’s there.
Petey Piranha & Wiggler: Old friends of King Boo called in as extra support. Petey and Wiggler is Daisy’s tutor in gardening business; think younger but bigger and far more intimidating Toadsworths for Daisy.
Shy Guys: A gang. They’re seen redeemed and working for the Sarasas at the end.
Monty Mole & Blooper: Thieves who follow the same path as the Shy Guys for Toadstool.
Weapon Brothers (Hammer/Fire/Boomerang Bro): Construction workers called in after Bowser’s attack. Paid off to keep quiet about him before a later attempt.
What do you guys think? I worked hard on this, so I hope you like it!
Valete,
TheBigPapilio

It’s a mess and I forgot some ships lol.
Link is shipped with 11 people, down 1 from last time. Peach with 8, one up from last time. Samus ties with her once again. Lucina's up to 7. Pit got 6 again and Marth’s tied with him. Obviously, Piranha plant is the most shipped since it’s shipped with everyone.
List and useless explanations:
OTP: Roy x Marth, they're my mains lol... But like, there's kind of an unintended story line with them. Roy was short in Melee but then he left in Brawl. Then he came back and was taller and different from Marth in 4. Now he's definitely taller in Ultimate and he's looking to be one of the best swordfighters in the game, it's kinda like Roy's proving himself to Marth. And now Marth's side taunt is "I won't lose!" just like Roy's. It's goes from Roy trying to be like Marth and looking up to him to him becoming Marth's equal. It was the first SSB ship I got into because of the "if you were gay" animation. And it's like the hottest ship in Smash Bros since Roy's really hot. Love: Mario x Pauline, I fucking forgot to put it. Mario x Peach, no explanation needed. Link x Zelda/Sheik, the fact that they're from different time lines made the ship more interesting. Link x Peach, I love it, it's cute and I love the idea of Peach having a crush on him. Link x Marth, it's hot, it's cute, you can have them love each other, hate each other. Underrated af. Link x Pit, I love rival ships. They're really cute together. Link x Ike, yeah, I love shipping Ike with short people. They're hot together. Kirby x Jigglypuff, they're both pink puffs. Kirby x Meta Knight, it's so cute. I headcanon Kirby as pretending to be a baby so that Sakurai treats him nicely when he's actually pretty mature and has fucked your mom. Ignore the last part. Luigi x Daisy, they need to get laid. Ness x Lucas, they're so cute together and they've got powers in common. Marth x Caeda, the only woman for Marth's heart. Lucina x Inigo, I always put them together in Awakening. Lucina x Shulk, futuuuuuuurrrrreeeeeeee!!!!!! Lucina x Samus, it's hot. Roy x Lilina, sometimes I forget that it's not canon. I headcanon that Roy's got a thing for blue hair and blue eyes. Chrom x Robin, they're perfect together. I can't play Awakening without having them get married. It makes the game so much better. Even the devs ship it. I'm so glad Robin can fight alongside her husband in Ultimate. Ike x Pit, now that PoR!Ike is back, it's better. They're really cute together. I think their personalities work great together. Ike x Soren, why isn't it canon? It's better than all the canon fe ships. If there's a RD remake, I hope it's possible to make them canon. Samus x Snake, it's a great ship. It doesn't feel as childish as Samus x Little Mac/Captain Falcon. Love it! Samus x Bayonetta, I really started shipping it when Bayo came out since they're both the most mature ladies in Smash. Samus x Palutena, hot. Bayonetta x Palutena, they adopted Kirby and Joker and now I ship them. Palutena x Lucina, the screenshot lol. Wii Fit x Little Mac, they're both fit. Cloud x Sephiroth, foe yay... Cloud x Tifa, Tifa's best girl. Diddy x Dixie, why is my girl not in smash? Like: Mario x Daisy, it's cute for when I want a break of the usual ships. Link x Corrin, anything with Link is cute. Link x Cloud, two hot blonds, add in some rivalry and you've got a hot ship. Link x Shulk, Link x anyone is cute. Link x Roy, I prefer them both with Marth but they're still cute together. Link x Lucina, I really ship Link with a shit ton of people. Fox x Falco, they have ho yay. Fox x Wolf, they have foe yay. Pikachu x Jigglypuff, kawaii. Luigi x Peach, look at Mario x Daisy. Peach x Bowser, Bowser's crush on Peach is cute okay... Peach x Daisy, tbh I think Peach would prefer this over the Mario bros. Peach x Pit, I can't remember why I ship it but it's cute. Zelda x Peach, hot. Zelda x Samus, hot. Marth x Pit, sometimes I want a Marth ship that's pure fluff and shitting on Link 24/7. Cloud x Marth, it's really hot. Lucina x Corrin, they're cute together. Lucina x Richter, echo x echo Ike x Roy, I once spoke to a person who shipped it and after thinking about it, it's pretty damn hot. Like SSBU could be seen as f**k Marth, Roy and Ike are the true ship. That's how Chrom happened. Game & Watch x R.O.B., 2D x real life, what could go wrong? Pit x Dark Pit, it's cute but I wish Dark Pit looked less like Pit but then it wouldn't really be dark Pit... Pit x Viridi, she's lying about her crush on Link, Cloud, Roy... I know you like him, Viridi! Samus x Captain Falcon, CF loves her. Samus x Little Mac, cute height difference. Samus x Wii Fit, hot. Mewtwo x Lucario, I like to think of them as the smart pokemon who have to deal with the other pokemon's shit. Sonic x Amy, my ship from when I was nine with one bonus year. Rosalina x Peach, hot. Wii Fit x Palutena, hot. Shulk x Robin, cute, I prefer it with M!Robin. Ryu x Ken, cute but I don't really know anything about Street Fighter. Inkling x Inkling, Candy's comics are cute but they're gone now Tolerate: Samus x Dark Samus, don't really know much about their relationship tbh. Ness/Lucas x Popo/Nana, they're kids but I don't really care about them. Peach x Wario, I read a fic once, it was pretty funny. Zelda x Ganondorf, eh... Ike x Cloud, I saw a pic once but haven't really explored it. Lucas x Toon Link, they both blond bois. Wolf x Isabelle, they're canines and I've seen it a bit on Tumblr. Red x Green, I don't know if they're actually supposed to be Red and Green. Mii x Mii Wii Fit Trainer x Wii Fit Trainer, fit. Dislike: Ike x Zelda, if you play Ike's games you know Ike x princesses doesn't work out. Roy x Lucina, doesn't click with me, Marth works better with Roy imo. Bayonetta x Pit/Dark Pit, it's weird because Bayo kills angels and the Pits look too young for her. Pit x Samus, there are better Samus ships than this. Ike x Samus, after playing Ike's games, I can't really ship him with any girls. Hate: The incest ships Link x Toon Link x Young Link, it's weird because of the age gaps. Marth x Peach, I don't like it romantically, but I like them as unexpected friends. Marth x Zelda, I headcanon that Marth hates her because of "stow your fears, it's now or never". Marth x Samus, Marth x any girl that isn't Caeda feels wrong tbh... Ike x Marth, despite shipping them with the same people, I hate them together. Pit x Palutena, she's more like his mom. Robin x Lucina, Robin's banging her dad so yeah... BROTP: Mario bros, of course. Pikachu and Samus, you know why. Pichu and Dark Pit, Candy's comics :3 Ike and Roy, they're bros. They went to the gym together and they trained Chrom. Snake and Isabelle, he protecc. Cloud and Isabelle, BROTP. Don't even try to hurt Isabelle in Cloud's presence. Bayonetta and Joker, she adopted him. OT3: Link x Marth x Roy, the Melee trio. It's hot and cute. Ike x Link x Pit, a mix of ho yay with a bit of foe yay :3 Any yuri combination Joke ships: Yoshi x Eggs Kirby/Ike/Dedede x Food, Marth x his tiara, GOAT Squirtle x soup, turtle soup to be specific Venusaur x Piranha Plant, they're plants Charizard x Fire Alph x Olimar R.O.B. x Marth's iPhone, Truly my greatest creation Villager x Money Mega Man x Chargers Greninja x Nerfs, better nerf Greninja Pac-Man x dots Duck Hunt Duo x Screentime in my fanfic Ridley x Confirmations K Rool x his crown, aka discount Marth x his tiara Incineroar x Catnip Piranha Plant x Everyone

Ten Things That I Thought of on Your Birthday
1. Your cornflower blue eyes crinkled and laughing, sometimes flashing like the storms you love to chase
2. Your strawberry blond mop that smelled nothing like fruit but instead of sweat and grime, clinging to your brow when you removed that Pepsi baseball cap
3. Easter egg hunts on your birthday, like plastic flowers in melted snow and you up trees and on the roof of grandma's garage
4. Rare compromises that built tree forts or wound up the tire swing until it bounced and whirled its passenger like a spinning top
5. When everything you did, I wanted to do too--whether it was rescuing the princess or flying an X-wing
6. Diddy and Dixie Kong headlocked and tangled in armpits, wrestling for the Super Nintendo controller or for the remote for the VCR until Donkey had enough and made them both watch Barney
7. The laughter of you and your friends from the basement or slipping around the corner, back when I said “Me too” and meant “include me”
8. Games of war crouched behind the couches when the only war you dreamt about was the one in Narnia
9. The cliff in Hawaii over the smoking volcanic ocean water and Mom screaming for you to come down
10. When you push me, like the dominoes you used to line up and watch devotedly as they toppled over, one after the other because sometimes general incivility is the very essence of love
