🎮 This guy seems to be pretty popular within tne matchup sections of things (not that I am complaining, I love writing about him xD).
🎮 This is a clear story of the whole 'opposites attract' trope that we see going on all of the time. Between the both of you, it's like night and day. His gloomy disposition and state of dress (I hope he washes that hoodie bevause he wears it all of the time), and then your pink and frilly clothing really makes the both of you stand out when you're next to one another.

Modern Inheritance: Clipboard (Short) (Post-Eragon, Pre-Eldest)
Brom looked up from the mixing bowl when he heard the embassy door snap closed. Arya appeared from the hallway and slumped down into a seat at the kitchen bar, a peculiar mix of exhausted annoyance tugging at her lips.
“You’re back early.” Brom commented. Despite her continued recovery, Arya had been trying to get back into her routine of PT runs in the mornings. She usually wandered back after doing laps of the city and the occasional bit of free running if there was an opportunity, but as far as Brom was aware she never returned before Eragon dragged himself out of bed.
The elder Rider set aside his current task to pass the elf a cold bottle of water when something caught his eye. “…Did you hit your head on something?”
Arya scowled over the lip of the bottle, her frown sending lines through the red welt that graced the center of her forehead. “No.”
“…Did someone else hit your head on something?”
The elf slammed the bottle down. Water spurted out of the top and splattered the counter. “You were a part of this, weren’t you?”
Brom simply raised an eyebrow and turned back to the pancake batter. “What happened?”
“Don’t bullshit me! Vilks was fucking waiting for me to run by the hospital!”
“And?” Brom spooned some batter into the pan on the stove, using a smooth turn of his wrist on the pan handle to flatten the glob evenly.
He could hear seething irritation edge into the elf’s voice. “He was waiting, with his fucking clipboard at head height.”
The Rider paused. Set the pan down on the burner and wiped his hands on the dishrag by the stove. “Ah.”
“Oh, don’t ‘ah’ me!” Arya snarled. “I got such an earful from him about the same old ‘know my limits’ crap I’ve been getting for two weeks now! You both have been on my ass trying to keep me from getting back into my usual form. I know you had something to do with this, old man!”
Brom shrugged, busying himself with cutting a hard-won banana into slices. It had taken him an almost ridiculous amount of time and money to barter a bunch of the rare fruit from a dwarven trader, and he handled it with the appropriate care. “I didn’t. I think it’s good you’re finally moving again. Crack these, would you?”
With a grumbled acquiescence Arya pulled the indicated bag of walnuts and an empty bowl to her side of the bar. Each shell crumbled away with a crackle and a deft twist before the meat dropped into the bowl with a hollow clunk. “…It hurt.”
Brom couldn’t help a bark of laughter. “That’s what you’ll complain about? You get walloped on the head with a flimsy clipboard and that’s when you actually tell us you hurt?” He sprinkled walnuts into the next pancake, along with a handful of the banana pieces.
“It was a metal clipboard!” The elf protested. “And I could have broken Vilks’ arm at that speed!” Taking another drink from the water bottle, her mumble of “He’s just lucky it broke in half before his wrist did.” was nearly lost in the metal rim.
The Rider opposite her just shook his head with another stifled chuckle. A quick flick of his wrist sent the completed pancake onto a waiting plate. “I’m sure. Now come on.” Brom set the warm plate down in front of his former student. “Eat your breakfast.”

I think JK likes the "life" that these "cool girl types" have but... Most of them are overcompensating for something some way some how. No matter how ACTUALLY cool or smart they are. And I have always thought this about M - like even when they were together or questionably spiraling - that he likes the exuberance of this type, the carefreeness and what *seems* like confidence, but when and if that gets stripped away I think that's probably when things get complicated. Like at some point their spontaneous nature becomes less fun and more unpredictable and that's not a vibe.
I think that spontaneous, do whatever attitude does go with him because he's a derpy weirdo who likes to just be random and silly and adventurous and try new things. But he's also incredibly grounded. So... Maybe a cool girl that's grounded will be the ticket.. or not? Because there are plenty of cool, confident, expressive, full of life people that arent pick-me. Same flavor different recipe..😂
But I think it's what comes with those types of girls (the literal pick me) that play into his personality and make things fun... But I also see the flip side of his personality (dare I bring back in astrology and throw out his Taurus) that is also craves control and stability and communication that don't really jive with a pick me.
... .. .. Which is also probably why they are so fucking confusing.
I agree. I think he’s just kinda a dork. I don’t know what he was like in high school, and none of us know that, but my guess is he was probably kind of a dork. So getting with these super cool girls is probably something that he always wanted and maybe never really got. Which there’s nothing wrong with that if you can get it get it. But I think that they’re definitely is that whole unpredictable nature to girls like that like you said. The whole carefree and fun and I’m living my best life is not always the case. We have to remember that what we see on social usually just a little piece of truth.
