Theres a new mom and pop coffee shop in Gotham that's doing pretty well. The place has a casual playful vibe but it only ever has one employee, which has lead to it having a bit of a urban myth status.
He's there through all the opening hours and no one ever sees him come or go, only the lights switching off and the teen disappearing.
It probably doesn't help that the shop has a ghost themed name.
His name tag reads, "Nightingale" and he always has a polite smile, but the few who dare to act out in his shop notice his eyes flash a particular shade of green and are suddenly overcome with the feeling that they're being stared down by a large apex predator and a sickening sense of dread.
Needless to say people behave in his shop.
Whats more is that his store shows up on county records just fine, but if you try to look into anything your computer glitches out and you can't find anything. Obviously "Nightingale" can't be the owner, he looks only 15. Some say he's a vampire, others say he's a zombie like Red Hood.
Tim doesn't care what he is because the first time he entered at night as Red Robin the guy immediately started making a coffee were he could see, made it exactly how he liked it and gave it to him before he even had the chance to order. Then he refused his money, saying it was on the house.
None of the people waiting in line argued or were upset and Tim was unsure if that was because he was a well known Gotham vigilante or it Nightingales reputation protected him.
Either way the coffee was delicious.
Tim didn't know how to feel when he found out his family was investigating the "possible runaway" who worked at the coffee shop.

I don’t really know if this is a prompt or whatever, but worth considering:
Phantom is likely seen as a very old being due to time travel shenanigans, but in the present day, he has a tendency to mention family members, especially “his sister” in the present tense. This doesn’t happen often, especially not around established heroes, but when he does let it slip around a member of the Justice League (be they friend or foe at this point, who knows), it sends them on a wild goose chase to find Phantom’s sister and determine her abilities. This goes one of two ways, because it could theoretically lead back to two different people.
Maybe it goes the easier way, and a JL member ends up stumbling across Dani on her travels. She’s got a very similar power set but is more of a free spirit (pun intended), so it’d make sense that she’s not tied down to a particular place. Of course, as the sister of a being thousands of years old, she’d be seen as quite old herself, and it’d be very easier for her to kill the illusion in a heartbeat.
However, I think it’d be a lot more intriguing if Danny’s statements somehow led back to Jazz, the towering redhead with superhuman strength (thanks to her liminality), exceptional fighting ability (thanks to martial arts from her mother and swordsmanship lessons from Pandora), and strong sense of justice and wisdom (due to her time spent analyzing the brain and working as part of a vigilante group).
Everything about Jazz would line up perfectly with her being an Amazon, and depending on when Wonder Woman left Themyscira, Jazz could be seen as an Amazon from before Diana’s time, possibly thousands of years old like Phantom.
That, of course, would lead to its own can of worms. How in the world are a long escaped Amazon and one of the leading representatives of the dead related? If they’re a found family, when did they meet? Otherwise, how is a male biologically related to one of the Amazons?
Ironically, Jazz would probably be much better at making herself seem Old than Danny would.
Bonus points if the League actually gets the chance to compare Danny and Jazz side by side. Phantom himself isn’t exactly small, not anymore, but Jasmine towers over him, every inch of seven feet tall. His big sister, indeed.
:0 oh man this is sick. How on earth does Danny's siblings break it to the JL that they aren't immortal? OR
What do they do to keep the misconception going to protect how young Danny truly is?

SHORT DP X DC WRITING PROMPT #6
(Had this idea and it wouldn't let go. If there's already a fic that exists with this idea, please link me!)

Escape to Smallville
Danny's identity gets discovered by the GIW on one of Danny's patrols. They out him to his family when they go to capture him for experimentation and pretty much shoot him while he's sitting at the dinner table. His parents stand up for him and pretty much go to war with the GIW right then and there.
Jack hauls ass with an injured Danny in his arms while Maddie covers them from behind fast enough to barricade themselves in the Ops Center then turns to Danny to patch him up as best and quickly as possible. After him and Maddie do as much as they can, Jack then looks Danny in the eyes and tells him he needs to run. He straps a fully stocked travel backpack with plenty of extra bandages on Danny's back, hands him a prototype signature blocker, a map, and a location to go to. Danny is shocked at what the signature blocker means and his mom and dad reveal to him that they've know for a year or two already, at least right before Jazz headed off to college. They tell him they love him regardless of if he's alive, a ghost, or a bit of each.
They split up from there. His parents take the Ops Center and lead the GIW on a wild goose chase across the Midwest, while Danny secretly flies as fast as his injured state will allow. He tries to pace himself but anxiety and a sense of urgency push him to keep going and don't stop. When he finally finds the location his dad told him about he almost immediately drops from the sky and crash lands in a corn field in the middle of nowhere in the state of Kansas.
That's where he's found by a very distressed Mama Kent.
Up to you to decide what Jack's, and therefore Danny's, relationship is to the Kents. Are Jack and Martha siblings? Cousins? Is Jack another Kryptonian? Is Danny half Kryptonian and half ghost? You decide!

Hello again! I've actually written the down some of my "Jason and the Spraypaint 'Thief'" idea tho its mostly scaffolding and i dont feel ready to share it just yet, but progress is being made!
If I may ask for your advice once more, the story has begun leaning towards Anger Management vibes (thanks for that brainrot too (affectionate)), but i dont feel great that the genesis of Jason and Jazz meeting is after Jason basically stalks Jazz in his hunt for whoever is buying his spraypaint before he can. Like, she is the one buying the paint, but the dynamic feels too onesided atm in terms of agency, but idk what Jazz would be doing that could parallel Jason.
The best Ive got is she tried to find out who bought out the yarn she was knitting with (it was Jason being petty), but I dont think she'd care as much as Jason does with the paint and it also feels too samey.
...Just had this thought while writing this, would it vibe with Jazz's character if she kept tabs on the Batfam for Danny? Like in terms of location. Ive got it that Danny dosnt want anything to do with the Batfam atm, Gothem is their turf fighting-wise and he dosnt want to encroach on that (tho he does help people in need when he comes across them), he just wants to make cool art in weird places (and maybe some ghost king stuff, not sure on that just yet) (maybe as a coping mechanism bc I do like the angst that comes from 'Danny leaves Amity bc the Fentons reactly badly to him being a halfa', tho still not sure how he gets into spraypaint yet, that feels like an important detail), so Jazz keeps tabs on their patrols for Danny so he can spraypaint without drawing their attention, and then Jazz notices Red Hood acting a bit odd and does her own investigating to make sure its not ghost business (she would know that RH has ghost vibes from Danny and his current spraypaint investigating behaviour maybe looks like a ghost obsession without context), and maybe she ends up pulling a Tim and figures out Red Hood is Jason, just due to ghost vibes instead of acrobatics.
I havent even gotten to them actually meeting in my planning yey, its just discovery eachother from afar and general thoughts of 'thats the person Im looking for, they're kinda cute' so far. Current vauge idea is they meet in a fight, tho i might be biased bc i did recently reread 'cant help falling (in love with you)' (i think i said this before, but amazing story btw, eagerly waiting for the next chapter!)
I hope this makes sense. This is the first time I've had an idea I've wanted to share with other fandom people and felt comfy enough to do so.
(your ask got sent twice so im gonna answer one and delete the other. Just Tumblr things I guess)
SO
I see Anger Management and go feral
Tumblr media
I see what you mean about there being a power imbalance in their meeting situation - but we have to be aware that the source material is like that. Jason is a crime fighter and a vigilante and also a very extra boy. He is petty and arrogant and sometimes he is not above using his skills for personal use.
You can make it so she knows what's going on and leads him in a wild goose chase just for funsies. Make Jazz petty as well. Make her highly competent. Make her win in his own game and boom, no more power imbalance. (Also that can be a cool "I need to know more of this woman" kind of situation.)
Another alternative, is making her think he is stalking her for unsavory purposes and beat the shit out of him.
I like what you said about Jazz being the one that keep tabs on all the vigilantes. She could have profiled them all, studied their patterns, and Tim Drake her way into memorizing their patrol routes so Danny can paint in peace.
So that's why when her new stalker starts bothering her, she is so Done(tm) that she is not afraid to gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss her way into making him stop.
How she does it? Dealer's choice.
(I'm weak to the fight approach, if it wasn't obvious (✿◡‿◡) )
(But outsmarting him could work as well.)
(Jason is into women that can kick his ass, be it physically or in smarts)
So in conclusion I think if you want to not fall into icky power imbalances and not fall into highly competent Mary Sues tropes, the sweet spot would be Jazz making the choice to take act or not, and base it on actual conflict: If she can't just beat the shit out of him, explain why. If she is not going to make a deal out of it, explain why. Make the character have agency and a choice in the matter, even if that choice is inaction.
Thank you for showing me your progress!!!! I'm so happy when people make content for the crossover and my favorite ship!!!
Also thanks for reading my fics!

Amethyst - Chapter Nineteen
A/N: This one's pretty sad ya'll. Nothing too heavy.
"How can you be sure that Harp Girl of all people is the leader of Team Moon? She literally made fun of them when she first met Lisa on the mountain!" Mackenzie exclaimed, confused at my revelation.
We were now walking through Grugar Valley, Mackenzie at my side, Danny trailing slowly behind us with an exasperated look on his face.
"Well she's hardly going to flaunt it. It makes sense that there have been no grunts around. They're trying to keep themselves under wraps." I explained. "Besides, right from the first time I saw her, I could just tell she's one of those people who just can't be trusted."
"A compulsive liar, you mean?" Mack asked.
I nodded. "Maybe that's why she made fun of Lisa."
"Doesn't make sense to me." Danny huffed.
"Besides, it doesn't really matter how much of a tough tsundere Lisa thinks she is. Anyone can tell that her heart is just way too soft to last five minutes in some huge criminal operation." I continued.
Mackenzie nodded his head. "You've got a point there. She's always been soft when it comes to Pokemon and people she cares about. Anyway, I heard they've got some extra strength potions in at Pollux right now. I'll catch you guys later, hmm?"
"See ya." I called as he turned away and began walking towards the Pollux branch. Oddly, however, Danny did not bid him goodbye. I turned around to see him with his arms firmly crossed, and his head down, his eyes boring into the cobblestone floor.
"Why are you always jumping to conclusions?" Danny asked, his tone a little harsh.
"It's called reading between the lines, Daniel." I sighed. "Look, that girl has a bunch of talking Pokemon! Since when do Pokemon talk?! She's clearly tampered with their genotypes in order to give them voice boxes! I know for a fact Lisa is a good person, she's not capable of doing something so horrible! But Freya? She's a different breed entirely!"
"Yeah, and what if it turns out not to be true? You'll be a laughing stock." Danny retorted, a scowl plastered on his features.
"Why are you so in denial all of a sudden?! That girl is clearly up to something!"
Danny just shrugged before turning away from me to stare at the Grugar Valley gym building. "Oh so you're some kind of scientist now?!" Danny sneered. "Whatever. It's nothing to do with me. Buzz has instructed you to lead this detective mission, not me."
"Daniel, why are you being like this?!"
He sighed loudly in frustration before snapping his head back towards me. "Have you ever listened to ANYTHING I've ever said to you?! Y/N, I've had your back since we lived in Unova! I've always offered to battle with you and lost every single time! And now here I am, playing SECOND FIDDLE to you trying to solve some stupid murder mystery! I didn't spend years upon years looking out for you only to have it all thrown back in my face!"
His outburst had left me speechless. I just stood staring at the boy who I once thought I knew, now completely bitter and angry, seemingly out of nowhere. "I didn't know you felt that way..." I managed to speak.
"Yeah? Well that's because you're always too wrapped up in trying to become some kind of hero to even pay any attention to how I feel. You're as bad as Lisa with her Team Moon stuff."
"That's a low blow..." was all I could muster.
"Whatever. I'm outta here. Best of luck on your wild goose chase." He scoffed, before turning in the opposite direction and heading for the dark cave.
I called after him, but it was no use. He was gone. And I had no idea if or when I'd see him again. A wave of guilt washed over me as I realised just how much I had overtaken him.
He was always so used to being one step ahead of me, yet now the tide had turned, and he was struggling to adjust to our new dynamic.
What could I do?
****
The Grugar Gym was everything I expected it to be. Dragons here, dragons there, dragons everywhere. There were even three people hiding under a dragon costume, with one as the head, one as the body, and one as the tale. I couldn't help giggle in amusement at their "roars".
I walked up towards the registration desk, stopping behind the person who was already at the desk. The man was tall and thin, wearing a baby pink silk suit to match his side-swept pink hair. He was carrying a white briefcase, so he was clearly someone important. A tiny, adorable Clefable stood at his side, and I smiled as it waved its tiny arm at me. As I bent down to its level, the trainer finished speaking to the receptionist, and turned around. He smiled upon seeing me interacting with his Pokemon. His piercing green eyes were bright, although he had dark eyebrows despite being extremely pale. "Always nice to see the bonds between people and Pokemon in action." He commented.
I stood up, however, I was still far below his height.
"Uh yeah, I've always had an affinity with them," I replied.
"Name's Clyde. I'm Deputy Chairman of the Elite Four." He extended his large yet bony hand, and I took it.
"Y/N. I'm a gym challenger." I responded.
"Say, Y/N, you have a rather sad look in your eyes. What gives?" Clyde tilted his head to the side as he examined my face.
"Oh, nothing serious. I just had a fallout with my best friend."
Clyde's eyebrows knitted in concern.
"Oh that's awful," he said sympathetically. "Though I know just how it feels... I had to disown one of my best friends back in the day."
"You mean Champion Flossi?"
Clyde nodded. "I am afraid so. I have a meeting right about now, so how about you go in there and get your gym badge, hmm? Give it your best shot against Robin. I'm free later, I'll wait for you and then we can talk properly."
I contemplated that for a moment. Taldourse's one-and-only Fairy Master was stood before me, and was well aware of the truth about Flossi. Upon realising he could potentially give me some helpful advice about Danny, I nodded. "Sure."
****
"Welcome to Grugar Valley's one-and-only Gymnasium! My name is Robin, I come from the beautiful Sinnoh region!" She twirled around, and almost tripped, yet her beloved Dragonite was there to steady her. "Thank you Hydra!" She laughed it off. "So, Y/N, this is the final gym. It feels weird just saying that, to be honest."
"Why does it feel weird?" I asked.
"Well, historically, there were eight gyms... but you know what happened..." she scratched the back of her head awkwardly. I sighed, nodding my head.
"Although we can't go anywhere near the Opaquia Gym to reopen it, we do have a substitute of sorts." She explained, the smile once again returning onto her features.
"Oh?" I was curious.
"He's REALLY strong! He's not quite on Flossi or Kossi's level, but he's pretty damn close. His specialty is poison types. Your Gym Mission is to defeat him, before you challenge me!"
"Him?" I asked, confused as to who this mysterious trainer was.
"He's just through that door over there." Robin pointed towards a dark blue door with a Toxel painted on it. "Best of luck, Y/N!"

Whirlwind (SQ fic): Jake should be used to ominous predictions by now. Randy should know better than to blindly follow McFist. Adrien should think twice before sneaking away. And Danny should’ve expected something like this when he got that phone call.
Chapter 11 [FF | AO3]

7:43 PM
The girl—dragon, if Rotwood wasn’t crazy, though McFist wouldn’t put money on that—squirmed in his grip but couldn’t break it. “You don’t have to keep playing these pranks on me,” he said loudly, not missing the side eyes and whispers from the others around them. At least the crowd had thinned; this was the sort of publicity McFist Industries didn’t need.
“I don’t know you! Let me go!”
Smart kid. Unfortunately for her, she’d come to him, not the other way around. Someone must’ve seen her do that, and that same someone would be telling others, and word would spread, protecting him from what would otherwise be a very problematic situation.
“Honey, I know having a stepfather can be an adjustment, but please don’t do this in public. We can talk once we get home, okay?”
“No!” she cried as he pulled first one foot and then the other free of the ice with violent twists. He ignored Rotwood as the man tugged on his first leg in an attempt to free it; McFist was happy to throw Rotwood money if he had anything that might be of use, but this girl was a solid lead on the NYC Ninja. She’d had a Ninja Cold Ball. The Norrisville Ninja left behind a plethora of throwing stars and rings and whatnot, but McFist doubted any ninja just handed out those throwing balls.
He eyed the bulging pocket of her hoodie.
If it was full of what he suspected, maybe the NYC Ninja had handed her all those things.
Assuming the NYC Ninja wasn’t as much of a fool as the Norrisville one could be, for all that McFist couldn’t seem to catch him and keep him, this girl must mean something to him. Be a sister of the Ninja, maybe, instead of a dragon. Rotwood might not have things quite straight; the Ninja wouldn’t just hand out weapons to little girls willy-nilly.
The girl opened her mouth to scream.
McFist jerked her towards him, her breath leaving her in the rushed surprise of a squawk instead. He hugged her close, burying her face in his stomach to muffle any subsequent shrieking attempts and holding her there even as she tried to drop to her feet and roll away. “Listen,” he said softly as the crowd began to turn away from them again, “I’m not in the business of hurting kids. I just want a bit of information, and I pay well for it.”
He felt her tense and, against what might be his better judgement, he pulled back and dropped down to her level. He kept a firm grip on her as he pulled out a wad of cash with his free hand. “I mean it. You tell me where you got that Ninja Cold Ball, and this is all yours.”
Defiance had replaced fear on her face, but her dark eyes betrayed nothing and stayed fixed on his own, even when Rotwood managed to get his first foot free with a grunt.
“Don’t listen to her lies,” Rotwood puffed as he strained to pull his second foot out of the ice. “The dragons, they have all sorts of gadgets and magics. It was probably not this Ninja Cold Ball at all!”
This time, the girl glanced at him, and when she turned back to McFist, she was chewing her bottom lip. Then she said, “I got it from a ninja.” One hand snaked out to grab his money, but he kept hold of it even as she tried to tug it free.
“Where?”
She stopped pulling and considered him for a second, cocking her head, and then she said, “I can show you.”
Show him, not tell him. That was more promising. Might not be an outright lie, and he could hold his own in a fight if it turned into an ambush. If it was a wild goose chase, then he had her, so he’d still be farther ahead than he was now. He let her go and then peeled away half the bills in his hand, giving her some and pocketing the rest. “Show us both now and you’ll get the rest—plus a nice bonus if you can tell us anything else. And even more if you hand over the rest of your stash.”
She frowned at him but made no denials. “I don’t want him to come,” she said, pointing to Rotwood. He slipped at that moment, cursing quietly, and McFist winced. He couldn’t really blame her, but assuming Rotwood had any marbles left, he might be able to come up with something useful on the Ninja front, and Viceroy could use some more ideas when it came to WNDs in case the Robo-Dragon went the way of the Robo-Dog. If it didn’t, though, and he got it finished fast enough for McFist to test it out on this NYC Ninja? Viceroy would be getting a bonus he didn’t have to argue for.
“Too bad. He’s coming.”
“I don’t have to show you.”
Attitude. Bravado. But she didn’t strike him as a street kid or even a recent runaway, so McFist didn’t mind taking the chance of calling her bluff. “He comes or I just take you over to the police and let you show them all the weapons you’ve got tucked away.”
The widened eyes and sharp intake of breath seemed to come at the same time, but she didn’t run away like he’d thought she’d might.
Instead, her eyes darted skyward, but before he could find what she’d been looking at, she said, “Fine. But he catches up. I’m not waiting for him.”
McFist rolled his eyes and reached over to smash the ice around Rotwood’s stuck foot with his mechanical hand.
“Why did you not do that earlier?” Rotwood cried, but he was getting easier to ignore; the girl was letting her fear get to her, since the flash of it she’d let him see looked real enough, and that demanded more of McFist’s attention at the moment. He could work with that.
McFist held out his hand—his left, thinking she might shy away from his right, and he could hold her easily enough either way. She frowned at him but took it, shooting another nervous glance at Rotwood. He wondered if she was wary of him because she actually knew him or if she simply thought he had a few screws loose. Honestly, he wouldn’t fault her either way. Just because McFist thought the man was useful, didn’t mean he thought Rotwood was the sharpest tack in the box.
“Lead on,” McFist said to the girl. Over his shoulder, he added, “Ninjas do that kind of thing all the time. Thought you could use the practical experience.”
“Practical experience?” spluttered Rotwood as he stalked up to them. With his longer strides, it didn’t take him long to catch up. “You are ignoring my very practical experience with dragons and letting that one lead you right into her nest.”
“Didn’t think dragons had nests.”
“Trap.” Rotwood’s voice was clipped. “I mean a trap. Perhaps I should not have been so quick to offer my services to you, if you do not value my expertise.”
“I’ll value it once you prove it,” McFist returned. “You know full well that I can uphold my end of the bargain, but I don’t know that you can do the same.”
The girl’s pace quickened, but she said nothing.
She was listening, though. If Rotwood was remotely right about her, then she had the potential to be dangerous. Somehow. It was hard to think of a cute little kid as dangerous, though. Or as a dragon. Her hand didn’t feel remotely scaly, but then again, Viceroy was convinced the 800-odd year old Norrisville Ninja was a current high school student, so McFist was willing to give Rotwood the benefit of the doubt.
He was not willing to give up a clear lead to the NYC Ninja before Rotwood had proven himself, however.
That would just be foolish.
“She is leading us away from the crowd!” hissed Rotwood. “If she wants us away from here, should we not ask what she’s trying to keep from us?”
“Ninja wouldn’t stick around in a crowd like this,” McFist said as Rotwood started to grumble. “Not if he’s smart.”
The girl kept walking, rarely tugging on his arm except to steer him. She didn’t try to slow. She didn’t try to bolt.
She might be trying to lead them away from something, but McFist hadn’t seen anything, and from what he’d heard from the NYC Ninja, the guy was as quiet as the Norrisville Ninja was. Which is to say, not at all.
If they were leaving the Ninja behind, he wasn’t fighting anyone or they’d hear it.
Still, once they were through the bulk of the crowd and weren’t passing within five feet of someone anymore, McFist said, “Why don’t you tell me how you ran into the Ninja?”
She rolled her shoulders in what might’ve been a shrug and mumbled, “He fought the dragon, didn’t he?”
He had, but she could just as easily have overheard that.
It didn’t explain why she’d singled him out.
Come to that, none of it explained why she’d singled him out.
Judging by how she’d recoiled from Rotwood, it hadn’t been him, even if Rotwood was right and they knew each other.
“Why me?”
This time, she slowed and glanced back at him. “What?”
“Why pick me?” He pulled her to a stop, looked pointedly towards his prosthetic arm, and added, “I’m not the guy singled out as harmless. So why, out of everyone in the crowd you could’ve come to, did you pick me?”
She dropped his hand and chewed her lip again.
“He told you to, didn’t he? The Ninja? That’s why he gave you the weapons? So you could bait me? Or pretend to be him if that didn’t work?”
“The dragon must be back there,” Rotwood declared. “That’s why she wanted us to leave. We have to go back!”
“No!” she cried, and McFist knew that whatever the truth, Rotwood was right in thinking she’d wanted them gone. “I just…. I…. Rotwood, please.”
McFist turned to Rotwood. The man was wearing a manic grin. “You admit it then, yes? That I am right about everything?”
“No,” she said, and his face fell into a frown. “You don’t know the half of it. That dragon isn’t a dragon.”
McFist blinked and tried to figure out what she wasn’t saying, but it was worse than some of the things Viceroy came out with.
Rotwood moved so he could loom over the girl. At least, that’s what McFist thought he was trying to do. The man didn’t do looming particularly well. It looked awkward. His chest was puffed out too much, especially when coupled with the odd angle he had to tilt his head to peer down at her through his glasses. McFist was pretty sure he could do a better job than that. Viceroy certainly could if he put his mind to it, but McFist figured Mad Scientist University might’ve had a class in that kind of thing, so it didn’t really count.
“It’s Professor Rotwood,” he said. “And if you do not want me to tell the world everything I know, then you should tell me everything you know. That is a fair trade, yes?”

7:43 PM
Randy was yelling something again, and Adrien wished he would stop. Randy might be used to fighting people who were too consumed with one thing or another to think straight, but Adrien knew exactly how smart akumatized people were, and—
“Get behind me!” Adrien screamed, reaching out to drag Randy into that position when the other teen didn’t obey quickly enough. Randy squawked in surprise, but Adrien was already spinning his staff to dissipate the streak of fire. His staff was clipped by the dragon’s talons a second later and sent flying; he hadn’t managed to pull back enough, even if he’d prevented it from being taken into her clutches entirely. By some miracle that never seemed to occur around Ladybug, his staff didn’t spin off the roof or otherwise wind up terribly far away. He’d be able to get it later, if he could just loop around those air conditioning units and—
“I think you need another Ninja Hydro Hand!” Randy shouted, rolling out from behind his meagre cover. A fist of water caught Susan’s tail a second later. It barely slowed her down, most of it crashing onto the roof and making Adrien hope Randy didn’t try pulling out of one those electrifying balls. Was Susan faster than before? Randy wasn’t slower, so—
Susan roared, her lashing tail managing to break free of Randy’s attack and sending some of that water back towards them. Adrien dropped and rolled, as much to get away from the attack which was undoubtedly coming as to avoid getting wet if Randy did pull out some questionable weaponry in the next breath. It’s not that he begrudged the help; he needed help right now. He just…. Randy wasn’t Ladybug. A fight and a half didn’t tell him enough about Randy’s fighting style to be able to anticipate his attacks and see how well he coordinated those attacks with those who were helping him, even if they were only acting as distractions.
Of course, that might be because Adrien had no idea if Randy was used to fighting with a partner.
Well.
That was a lie.
If Randy fought with a partner, they had a very poor partnership, unless Randy’s job was to try to keep all the attention on him while his partner went in for the— Not kill, necessarily, not if Randy was used to dealing with a similar sort of situation as Adrien himself, but the final blow. Only, Randy had been more than happy to jump at the opportunity to break the Critic’s pen, and he just didn’t move like he was used to fighting with allies.
He wasn’t a stranger to it, but Adrien was sure it wasn’t the norm.
Randy had also clearly never fought a dragon before, if he thought a bit of ice around Susan’s hind claws from Randy’s latest volley of Ninja Cold Balls would be more than a match for the sheer amount of muscle Susan possessed in this form. Not to mention the fact that she could breathe fire. And, likely as not, had fireproof scales. It had looked that way when Randy had thrown the first fireball, at least, and why wouldn’t a dragon have fireproof hide? It only made sense. Even if dragons usually didn’t, Hawk Moth would happily supply an upgrade to increase his chances of winning.
Adrien kept low, dashing for the air conditioning units on all fours while Susan was distracted by Randy. A Ninja Air Fist met a torrent of dragon fire as Adrien took shelter behind the nearest unit; some of the flames flashed his way, carried by the wind instead of being immediately put out by it. The heat that still rolled over him must have fried the electronics of every unit up here, and the sheer amount of damage they were doing—
Adrien winced as he heard the chain of explosions caused by Randy’s Ninja Boom Balls, even as he used the cover to creep toward his staff.
None of this was going to get repaired.
Not by any miraculous move on Ladybug’s part, at least.
Adrien couldn’t afford to think about that, though.
Useful a distraction as Randy was being, he couldn’t hold Susan off forever. Not alone. But Adrien? Adrien had something she wanted—or, at least, something that Hawk Moth wanted. Randy was doing a phenomenal job of keeping Susan penned where she was, using elemental attacks every time she tried to take to the air, but she’d go through Randy to get to him if she had to. Especially since, at the rate he was using his Ninja Balls and Ninja Throwing Stars and everything else, he’d run out of ammunition sooner rather than later, which might even be Susan’s intent, so that she could focus almost entirely on Adrien. Unless Randy had an unlimited supply of weaponry? Why hadn’t Adrien asked? If he’d been thinking….
But there hadn’t been any more time for questions.
Adrien might not be able to explain Susan’s earlier disappearance, but he could explain her return. He recognized that drive in her, the focus of her attacks. Even if she had more of herself left in her than Hawk Moth’s usual victims, Adrien had seen how people got…twisted. Even if it was subtle, it was there. Desperation turned justification turned for the greater good and it’s only the end result that matters or I’ll do anything in exchange—
She’d still made a bargain with Hawk Moth, dragon blood running through her veins or not, and she’d be bound accordingly.
He just wished he knew for certain why Hawk Moth had come here and what precisely he was looking for; having a clear thing to protect beyond his own Miraculous would give them an advantage. Any concrete information would help. He was operating entirely too much on guesswork, because Hawk Moth wasn’t supposed to be here, he was supposed to be back in Paris where Ladybug could effectively neutralize each akuma—
Susan had too much room to manoeuvre here. They were out of the way of civilians, sure, but she still had the advantage. Neither of them could fly, and Randy didn’t have the added bonus of night vision (to Adrien’s knowledge, at least). Besides, if Randy’s elemental attacks exhausted him—another thing Adrien hadn’t thought to ask earlier—then there really was only so much time that he could be an effective fighter before he would need to recover. Furthermore, Adrien couldn’t risk using Cataclysm except to get out of some kind of non-organic trap—and maybe not even then, if he risked bringing a building down on someone—which meant he was left fighting with his staff. Since his opponent was a dragon, his staff was better suited for defense or getting leverage, especially as said opponent wouldn’t be hurt by a small bit of metal flung at her.
Well.
Maybe not.
He and Randy knew perfectly well that the plan was for Danny to get the necklace away from her (using his quick flight speed and optional tangibility), but she didn’t know that.
Taunt, run, feign, distract.
Adrien smiled as his fingers closed around his staff. Planting it firmly on its base in front of him, he extended it and let it carry him a good ten or so feet above Susan’s current height, which was already about twenty or thirty feet from the rooftop. Fortunately, Randy had been able to hold her at that height, even if his elemental attacks hadn’t been able to push her back down. “Hey, dragon lady,” Adrien called, suddenly realizing he didn’t know what name she’d taken, if she’d taken one at all, “aren’t you a little focused on the wrong hero in the cute black number?”
Sharp eyes turned to him, ignoring Randy entirely. “My name is Dracona,” she hissed.
Dracona.
Not Susan, whatever Jake wanted to think.
Adrien swallowed but kept his thoughts off his face, plastering on a wide grin instead. “Then how about we play a little game of cat and mouse?”
He let the staff become ungrounded. It teetered for a second before slowly tipping as the wind caught him. Dracona snarled and gave her wings another ferocious beat, pushing her further into the air—
—but not pushing away an all-important flash of red as the Ninja’s scarf lashed out to wrap around her neck. Adrien only caught a glimpse as he fell, spinning so he could better spot his landing on the next building over, but he saw Randy’s wild swing bring him up and around Dracona’s neck, landing him squarely on her back at its base.
Adrien couldn’t suppress a grin as Randy let out a whoop of joy, even though it was nearly swallowed in Dracona’s growl.
And then Adrien’s feet touched down on the next roof, his staff already retracting, and he began to run.

7:44 PM
“That can’t be a good sound,” Danny whispered to Jake as Jake flew higher, relishing the fact that he didn’t have to take care not to circle over busy areas while Danny was making him invisible.
This was made more important by the fact that Danny was right: it hadn’t been a good sound.
Also, they weren’t the only ones who had noticed Susan’s roars. Jake didn’t need dragon eyes to see the stream of people and vehicles below, flooding away from the gala and towards the danger. Some of those vans below had to be various news stations, which meant the moment Danny left him to play jewellery thief, it was entirely too likely that two dragons would be caught on tape.
The Dragon Council would definitely take his powers away for this. And maybe not just his, if they figured Gramps or Fu or someone should’ve stepped in before he let the situation get this far. That wouldn’t be fair, but they didn’t always care about fair.
They hadn’t listened when it came to removing Chang from the council, despite the fact that Jake knew G had been pushing for it. Why would they listen when he tried to tell them that everything that had happened here wasn’t anyone else’s fault?
“We just need to move fast, yo,” Jake said. He kept his voice at a normal volume despite the wind—Danny might not have sensitive dragon ears, but he did have one of his ears pressed against Jake’s neck—and hoped that if it was loud enough for Susan to overhear them, even from this distance, she’d be too busy to pay attention.
Truth was, if her ears were sensitive enough to pick up their conversation, they were also sensitive enough to pick out the sound of Jake’s wingbeats, even above the noise rising from the streets below.
They could see the fight now. It was dead easy to trace its path; concrete still scorched, after all, and lots of places were doused in water. Not to mention, Randy wasn’t exactly stopping long enough to pick up any of his thrown weapons, even the ones that weren’t too bent to reuse. Light pollution meant the night sky wasn’t completely dark, either, and it was easier than Jake would like to pick out the spinning silhouette of his mother against the golden glow of gathering clouds.
And, apparently, Jake wasn’t the only one with a passenger clinging to his neck.
The passenger was Randy, judging by the leaps the other shadow was making with the assist of a pole. Randy must be holding on for all he was worth, as Susan was doing everything in her power to shake him loose. Randy would be far too close to her necklace for comfort if she was going to do everything she could to protect it, and—
He’d be fine. He could hang on long enough for them to get there and help, even though Jake wasn’t flying as fast as he could since Danny clearly wanted to say his bit before they got there.
“What’s more important?” Danny asked as Jake climbed, intending to wheel closer from above and hopefully stay unnoticed. “Keeping the existence of dragons secret from the non-magical world or beating this Hawk Moth guy?”
Jake didn’t bother to hide his snort. “Both. I’m gonna save my mom.”
“Yeah, but….” Danny hesitated. “Saving your mom just means winning this battle. And Hawk Moth is in her head if she’s fighting the good guys. You know that. Which means you don’t know what she’s gonna do when she sees you.”
“I’m not sitting this out. You know that.”
“Weren’t you told you’d need the help of your friends to do this?”
“Yeah, help. That doesn’t mean I have to take a back seat while you guys do all the work.”
“Doesn’t mean you need to stay in dragon form, either, if having more than one dragon on the scene gets dicey when it comes to pretending the magical world doesn’t exist.”
“Say what?”
“The thing Randy’s book told him. To cleanse the soul, one must first clear the mind. You can do that just as well as a human, and then you won’t let this Hawk Moth guy know that dragons are real. If he hasn’t already guessed it, I mean. It didn’t sound like he could just pick knowledge out of people’s brains, so your mom might’ve been able to keep that under wraps.”
Jake spread his wings to catch an updraft, even though he’d slowly been circling downwards. “He has a Miraculous. If we know about them, there’s no way they don’t know about us. Not when they know how to keep off our radar.”
“Doesn’t mean that guy specifically knows about you, or how much influence dragons have on the magical world, or anything else like that. I mean. Look. I can try to overshadow your mom instead of just grabbing the necklace and flying away. I don’t know if she can throw me out, but it’ll buy us some time, and it would shake her up enough for you to talk to her. And that might draw out Hawk Moth. He’s obviously connected with her somehow. But if you’re dragoned up when he crawls out of wherever he’s hiding, we can’t even pretend all this dragon stuff was his magic. So if you st—” Danny broke off.
He’d seen what Jake had seen.
The dragon ahead of them had shifted mid-flight, her form shrinking back to the all-too-familiar silhouette of Jake’s mother.
Jake tracked the falling figures with his eyes as he sped towards them, and he wasn’t surprised when Danny left him and flew ahead. He was the faster flyer; he’d get there first. That knowledge did nothing for the sudden terror in Jake’s stomach, though. The two were falling together, maybe still tangled in Randy’s scarf. He couldn’t see any butterfly, and maybe there wasn’t one, since Nino was diving towards them, trying to catch them before—
A flash of blue fire lit the sky, and the dragon surged upwards again, catching Nino in her talons.
Jake reached the scene a precious second after Randy’s wild descent had halted, and Danny flickered back into visibility as he rose to meet Jake.
“She ruined my scarf,” Randy complained, gesturing at the tattered red cloth. “If her magic messes up my suit magic and it doesn’t fix itself, you owe me for that, too.”
Jake just stared at him, wondering how he could even think about something like that right now.
Whether or not Randy could accurately read dragon expressions, he could certainly read the look on Danny’s face. “What? I think Nino planned this. He had that planning look on his face, right before he fell and started the chase again.”
Instead of telling Randy he wouldn’t know Nino well enough to recognize a planning look on his face, Jake glanced below. The sight of the people beginning to gather was enough to pull a growl from his throat. He winged quickly to the rooftops, Danny following with Randy. “Climb on,” he said, crouching down so Randy could clamber up. “If he’s changing his own plan on us, we’re not going to be left behind.”
Randy swung up with ease even as Danny said, “You know plans never work out like they’re supposed to.”
Sure, but that didn’t mean Jake had to like this one. If this really was the plan, it was entirely too self-sacrificial. More likely, it had been a mistake, and Randy just didn’t want to admit that to himself. A mistake like this was bad.
Granted, a mistake like this was also par for the course.
“Let’s just hit her hard and fast when we catch up,” Jake said as he took to the air again. Danny moved to fly beside him, reaching out to keep a steady hand on Jake’s neck. Invisibility really was handy. “She’s got the Miraculous of the Black Cat, which Hawk Moth wants. She’ll lead us to him, and then we can take them both down.” He glanced in Danny’s direction. “Um, after we save Nino.”
“You want me to get him out of there before I try anything else? Overshadowing included?”
“What’s overshadowing?”
“One of Danny’s many fun tricks,” Jake deadpanned. “And, yeah, you’d better. I don’t think Nino would appreciate it if we tried to wait for an opportune moment and his identity got compromised because something went wrong first.”
“You don’t think he’d rather we took out Hawk Moth?”
“I think I’d rather give up one of our identities than his.”
“I mean, if someone has to, I can,” Randy said. “He won’t know me. Nobody knows me. I’m not anyone important and, well, it won’t matter in a few years anyway.”
Jake tried to parse Randy’s meaning and briefly wondered if he had time to ask what that meant when Danny said, “You weren’t thinking of me or Randy, were you? You plan to reveal yourself. You’re really fine with Hawk Moth knowing you’re a dragon?”
“I don’t have a choice.”
Knowing Danny, he was going to protest that, but Randy cut him off before he had the chance, saying, “I don’t see her. I think we lost them.”
It was an obvious change in topic, but Jake took it for the lifeline it was. He spread his wings further to take advantage of another updraft and wheeled around, listening intently. Ear of the Dragon was good for more than just eavesdropping, and— There. Wingbeats. He was right. He picked up the pace, Danny easily matching him. “It doesn’t matter. We know where she’s going.”
“We do?”
“Yeah. Fu updated me on the dragon sightings earlier, but it didn’t click until now. If she was fighting this, then she was running away from Hawk Moth. Then she came back to him and found us. Meaning we were near him, even if we didn’t know it.”
“And you can see or hear her, right?” Danny asked. “So you know she wasn’t just on her way past us to the other side of the city or something?”
“Right. She might be a dragon now, but I’ve been a dragon for longer. My knowledge is practical, not theoretical.”
“I still have it best as dragon rider,” Randy crowed, letting out a whoop. “This is the cheese! Can you go any faster?”
He was fighting the wind now, so going faster without using the air currents to his advantage would mean tiring faster, not to mention giving up all remaining semblance of discreetness, but— “Race you back to the gala?” he asked Danny.
Danny dropped his hand, returning them both to visibility as he flashed a grin at Jake. “You’re on!” he called, speeding ahead, and Jake caught a brief glimpse of Danny’s ghostly tail before he vanished from view entirely.

10.11. – Review and some musing
Since yesterday I'm thinking about how to start this review. I guess it'll end up being an ode to McDanno. Because let's be honest…still after such a long time, years of being in love, my love for the boys is a blazing fire. They make me sit on the edge of the couch, smiling stupidly, happy with what I witness what's happening between them. They make me sweat and grin and cry and gasp for air.
So, I start with the boys. Honestly, I've never expected season 10 to be so freaking full of McDanno moments. Gosh, I'm still a bit beside myself. For example, the scene in Steve's office. Danny…Danny. This handsome man (and the haircut! This freaking hot Mohawk, gah!!!) gets me twisted in knots because I try to find out what's he's up to. Danny doesn't normally admit to Steve his inner secrets. The way he confessed so openly why he has made up the mold story? Uh-huh. Intense. He shows feelings. Shows how much he was worried about Steve without being ironic and ranting and cutting the air to pieces with his hands. Intense. That what it was. And Steve? Steve takes Danny's confession in stride, kind of shifts on his seat and says he was touched. Steve doesn't really know what he should do with this piece of information even though he’s known it the whole time. It's kind of a load of emotions getting dumped on Steve only to grow in intensity a second later.
The bonsai comment? So not Danny-like, at least, not to the Danny I'm used to. He admits just openly that he's started that hobby for therapeutic reasons, telling there that he's not okay, that he's needed some support, some help from the shrink-corner and that's new. Did he visit a therapist? A psychologist? Does he still have sessions? Steve didn't ask any of this but the questions hang in the air. Danny, being just Danny, tells him of course, he doesn't normally inform everyone that he has a bonsai but he's just said it to Steve. So, he wants Steve to know and he even takes his miniature tree to Steve's house where he’s gong to trim this little precious tree with the special clipper doing this with a steaming cup of coffee beside him on Steve’s table only dressed in a flimsy shirt and old boxer shorts and Steve forgets how to breathe and decides to wear only sweat pants made of heavy cotton farbric. Not so easy to stretch. So, many hidden signs.
And what's with the burst pipe full of sewage? Yak, that's something traumatic when that happens, meaning Danny’s house was flooded with that stuff, ugh. At least, the bathroom and normally Danny would freak out, ranting, complaining, telling everyone how he's drawn the short straw from life. But none of this is happening. Danny smiles when he explains how the shit-smell has chased him out of his own home and he seeks refuge…at Steve's house. I'm sure he just made that story up, too and Steve knows this but still. Six to eight weeks! That's a long time and they haven't even mentioned where Danny would sleep. Maybe with Grace gone and Charlie growing older Danny feels lonesome and needs company.
But I can't get over Danny's sweet smile. The smile where he's asking Steve to let him crash at his place. It's a smile where one couldn't hide effectively enough the crush, they have one the one person that stands right in front of them. It's a sweet, tender, meaningful smile, uncommonly in Danny's repertoire to make faces. It's a gentle, genuine smile and it's connected to the stay at Steve's place. And normally Danny is the one who's annoyed and not Steve. Somehow the tables have turned and Danny tries to coax Steve into doing something Steve's not so fond of just for the fun of teasing Danny. Steve plays the annoyed one very well and all he can come up with are used towels. Ha!
Danny pushes boundaries twice in a short amount of time. He barges in Steve's door the first time without telling or calling or asking if it's okay with Steve. Now, just the same. He packs his bags and even takes his bonsai with him, stores his luggage in the office for Steve to see because Danny knows already Steve won't say no. So, what has Danny in mind? Living together for about two months? Jesus! I love this scene. It reveals Danny's softer side, an unexpected side. He wants to be with Steve that's a fact. And Steve lets him. I'm really curious about what's going on. Guys!!!! Ahhhh!
And the helicopter scene! That's another great McDanno moment. First, Danny jokes about animals although he loves animals. But he teases Steve about the gooses. And Steve comes up with the helicopter ride and doesn't even ask Danny if he's okay with it. He knows very well that Danny hates to fly with him. And oh, surprise! Danny goes! He jokes about the wild goose chase and Tani rolls her eyes at the boys! But Danny doesn’t scream and digs his heels in the ground just for the reason to show how much he doesn't want to be with Steve in a freaking helicopter, in the air!! Nope, he just went after Steve again with this mysterious smile.
As for the record, I…god…I loved seeing them paired up again, chasing bad guys, like in the old days. Time changes things, I get that but it was a great moment. And guess what. Steve is super correct and knows all the rules and is the pilot of the helicopter and yet he lets Danny use his cell although is highly prohibited and against the rules. But he lets Danny be. And Danny gives two shits about rules because they're in a no-fly zone because of gooses so no rules. And that's heavily teasing and an odd flirting with Steve. He dares him and Steve goes with it as always.
And I love that Steve still trusts Danny with all he's got. The Adam case bothers him and he leaves it to Danny to get through to his rogue team member. But Steve can't deny himself the comment if Danny can manage secrecy and Danny only lifts an eyebrow, tilting his head and quips a nice answer in return. Not offended in the slightest. That's really new and I freaking love it. Danny is much more relaxed and that rises my interest.
The guys going to live together for a longer time. That's going to be interesting and my heart whispers already poems of love…mm-hmm.
The half-season finale was just as good, as fantastic as every episode from season 10. I'm so in love. There's something thrilling about this season. It's heavy on the feels. The unexpected McDanno moments throw me. It's overwhelming. The cases are interesting and I never forget that it just a show and things might be bent a bit until they fit. Yes, they mess up timelines and don't follow up often on loose ends. I don't really dwell on those moments. I take what I get and I tend to extract the best moments for me. These 42 minutes and something always fills me with a giddy joy. I'm still enjoying every moment. It's still a wild ride and every episode leaves me with a lot to think about.
Lou is surprisingly fun. He's the one I struggle with the most. He's often over the top but so far, his scenes are filled with quip, pulling faces while discussing important leads, adding a lot of solid ohana-feelings and deep-rooted devotion to the team. This season Lou kind of grows on me. He's good people when he's not losing himself in some stupid, senseless explanation about how to dip malasadas in coffee or how to be a respected young man, or some stories about the good ol' days in Chicago.
The team has grown together. Tani fills her shoes and she walks tall. She's badass, proud, unwavering and would make Kono proud. She's full of admiration for Steve with the needed respect. But she's also the one who kind of sees the private person behind Steve the boss-man. She's caring and she's not afraid to show it. She loves Steve deeply, like a sister. She also breeches with ease Steve's professional persona. She expresses feelings and thoughts that have Steve gulp because it's so honest and straightforward and I love that.
Junior… man, this guy captured my heart. He's great. He's Earth where Steve's Air. They match as perfect Brothers. I'm always calm knowing Steve's not totally detached from his former, very important life as a SEAL. Junior watches out for him. Always, everywhere. He's grown a fantastic backbone and I'll never get tired of watching him morphing into a SEAL. He becomes a brother and a teammate for Steve. My heart still skips a few beats remembering the scene where they freed Joe White and Steve ordered him to stay behind, to not get entangled with the danger. And Junior's answer came sharply and precisely like a shot. "Today I'm a Seal and you're not my boss. We're a team and I'm coming with you." He said it with such confidence it blew me away. And it took Steve one second to recognize Junior as his brother. Junior is Steve's younger brother and he's always all in or nothing. I love his courage and the tender, shy side he always shows together with Tani. I love this boy and he's a good company for Steve. Keeps him sane.
Adam…Adam. Yeah, there's a lot going on. The way he laid down his gun and the badge was dramatic. I'm not sure yet what to think of that. I have always liked Adam. He fits into the team although he has never undergone any police training. He's born and bred Yakuza got taught from his father, a big name in that world. He should have had the courage to just tell Steve that things went wrong and he has to quit the team. That would have been the right thing to do.
The way he did hide information to safe his girlfriend was okay for me. Steve would have done the same, Lou and also Danny were already in such a situation and they just did what had to be done without informing anyone. But with Adam things went sideways and he went rogue, also emotionally and friendship-wise. After everything was settled he should have gone to Steve and get things out of the way. Steve would have understood. There, I don’t get Adam’s intentions.
Quitting the team like that? The worst imaginable way for Steve. You don't just quit the team and that's an emotional blow for Steve just because Steve cares for every single member on his team. But as I see it, Adam's world shifted when he lost Kono. Being an important member of the Yakuza makes you a slave, for a lifetime. You never can get out. So, they say. No freaking chance. Adam's history proves that. He killed his brother. He tried to be an honest businessman only to realize his past bites him in the ass. He ran away and tried to start a new life with Kono only to lose Kono to her obsession with a case that grew out of hand. Adam loves with all he's got. He has found new love with an old friend, unsurprisingly a daughter of a Yakuza boss. Adam grew up with all those people and now he's back in this energy. He knows the game. He's found a new woman and he loves again. For a man like Adam, he will do everything in his power to protect his woman. He won't lose again a woman he loves.
And his move to quit the team is about the woman he now loves. He has to stay close, by her side. Maybe he realized he only can really play one tune, only be fully immersed in one game, being on the Yakuza team. He betrays Five-O but as it seems Adam has reached a crossroad and his decision is made when he sits down at the head of a big table with other members of Tamiko's family and members of her father's clan.
Quinn…she wasn't in the episode and with some shame I have to admit I didn't even realize it. Not until someone pointed out that Quinn was missing. God, that's so horrible of me. She's a great team member but I seem to have a blind spot for her on the team. She doesn't leave an imprint. I can't tell you why. It's just…she's there and it's really good and she isn't and I don't miss her.
And the cliffhanger! Wo Fat is back. His name at least and seeing Steve's face when he spits his name revealed how much it pains him to just spell it. I think Steve might still have nightmares over what he had to undergo getting tortured, getting to hear dark, poisonous secrets his mother designed and everything came back to haunt Steve never to be really free of that massive emotional trauma. And now his nemesis is back in the form of Wo Fat's former wife. Just as cruel, brutal and cold-hearted as her husband. A killer seeking revenge with the deep wish to get to Steve.
Wow!
Season 10…ten points out of ten!

Where Are You
(The rest of the story under the cut due to length.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elliot stared at his phone, waiting for a response from Harper. His hand shook as he typed out his latest text to her, and pressed send, the message joining about 8 messages that had gone unanswered. He looked at the clock and sighed. It's already 12:30 AM, there's no way Harper would be gone this long for an errand or a prank… His phone suddenly beeped with a message alert. He pounced on it as fast as he could, but to his dismay, it was only from Imogen.
Imogen: I haven't heard from her
Imogen: haven't seen her around Downtown. Did she reply to you yet?
Elliot groaned in disappointment. Nevertheless, he typed out a reply.
Elliot: not yet
He looked up and saw three mugs on the table. Two other people were sitting there, one mug each in front of them. His grandfather motioned for him to sit down, which he refused to until Robbie spoke.
"It's hot chocolate." He said as calmly as he could, trying not to show his worry to keep his boyfriend as calm as possible. Despite this, he added: "Harper's not the type to go down that easily." He moved the chair for Elliot, and the worried brother sat down.
"Your boyfriend's right. Your sister isn't one to be underestimated." His grandfather said. "She's proven that firsthand two months ago." He nudged the hot drink towards his grandson, who slowly moved to take it. "She'll be fine."
Elliot didn't think that his grandfather fully believed his own words, but he decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and drank his cocoa carefully.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, while Imogen had no luck searching downtown, Tom hadn't had any luck himself looking in the wooded area of Pine Springs. He shone his flashlight around the area yet again, worry and fear gripping at him. There was no way Harper would just up and vanish like this. There was no way his girlfriend would do that. She wouldn't leave them high and dry. Especially Elliot. If there was one thing their time together taught him about her, it was that her brother, despite being half-siblings, was very important to her. In fact, he and Elliot had struck up a friendship of their own already because of her. She was their common ground. He opened his phone and typed out a text to her.
Tom: where are you?
Tom: Why aren't you answering your phone?
Tom: Everyone's getting worried
Tom: Hope you're getting these
Tom: When you see these please respond
He tucked his phone back in his pocket, and suddenly saw a rustle in the bushes. He stopped in his tracks for a brief second before rushing towards it, hoping it was Harper. To his disappointment, it was only a raccoon. He watched it scamper away before rubbing his eyes and sighing.
Harper, where are you?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A sigh came out of the mouth of the new police chief of Pine Springs as he checked his phone again to find one new text, with the same content as the previous ones: their friend still hadn't been found. He was currently in the residential area of the town, hoping to find someone who had even seen where Harper had gone. So far, he had no luck. It was like she vanished into thin air. But in the short time he knew her, she had never been one to just up and go.
The entire thing had definitely put a bad taste in Parker Shaw's mouth.
He raised his radio and spoke into it. "Any sign of her?"
The radio crackled with static before a voice on the other end replied. "No one's seen her. You sure she didn't skip town? I mean, it's a possibility, what with the trauma and all-"
"Save it." Parker said, agitated. He caught himself and took a deep breath. "Sorry, sorry. It's just that… If she was traumatized and that was her reason to leave, wouldn't she have left earlier than now? Wouldn't she have left already?" He voiced out loud. "Update me if you find anything."
"Yes chief."
With that affirmation, Parker put down his radio and sighed again, checking his watch. It was 1:30 in the morning, and they had been searching since 9:00 that evening.
We're not giving up on you, Harper. So don't give up on us.
He returned to searching.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, Danni was down by the docks with her trusty camera, looking for any sign of Harper. She figured that since it was her last day in town for a while, she would go somewhere to reminisce on everything that had happened. Harper didn't seem like the kind of person to go reflecting about paranormal troubles at 1:45 in the morning, but Danni figured hey, you never know.
She fought back a yawn, refusing to admit she was tired. She didn't want to believe this was turning into a wild goose chase, but they would have found their friend by now.
Stop it, Asturias. She should be nearby. She reasoned with herself. It's not like she just decided "hey, I'll just go and leave without saying goodbye, leaving my friends, boyfriend, grandfather, and especially my brother who I worried so much over two months ago when he was kidnapped by my vengeful ghost grandma behind." She wouldn't, even if this town's done a number on her psyche-
Suddenly, she stopped. Was it her, or did she see movement just now?
She rushed towards the movement, camera at the ready in case it wasn't Harper. She hoped it was though. That way everyone would know she was fine.
No such luck.
Instead, she witnessed a tall robed figure running away from the docks, wet with water. Without thinking, she snapped a photo of her target, which only inspired them to run faster.
Danni gave chase, her glare focused on the person in front of her. He ran through the marina, diving in and out of view, never looking back all the while. Suddenly, just when Danni thought she had her suspect cornered, the robed figure knocked some barrels over, blocking her path and escaping as they fell.
Damn it! Danni angrily chided herself as she recovered from the sudden surprise. As if remembering, she took her new photo in hand, and went to a more lit area to wait for it to develop. As it came into view, she squinted at the person.
Was it just her, or was the figure wearing a blue robe? And didn't that symbol look familiar?
She had a bad feeling about this.
She quickly shot a text to the group chat, telling them to get to the docks ASAP, as in "this-is-extremely-urgent, get-your-asses-over-here-NOW." In the meantime, she retraced their steps, looking at the ground. The closer she got to the water, the more visible the footsteps leading away from it were. Taking photos, she followed them to the water, where she found a boat that, judging by the water inside it, was recently used.
Before she could get into the boat to look inside it further, the red and blue siren lights appeared, and along with them the other three members of their Scooby Doo gang.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arthur groaned. He finally managed to convince Elliot to at least take a nap, and even then, it took Robbie saying he would stay with him in order to convince him. The old man made a mental note to thank him properly later. He took a look at the clock, which now read 2:15 AM. If this had been two months ago, he would have grounded Harper for life by now, if her grandmother hadn't gotten to her first. Now, he was more frightened. After all, Josie- Josephine, was gone. His granddaughter banished her herself. He didn't know whether he preferred having one clear theory to not having any ideas as to where his grandkid was at all.
He sat down yet again at the dining table, tired but refusing to sleep until he had news about Harper. In the meantime, he thought about the past two months.
He hadn't expected to become the legal guardian of his grandkids, especially after the murder of his daughter and her husband. He hadn't expected his granddaughter to go around Pine Springs, snooping around and poking her nose where it was extremely dangerous. He didn't expect her, his employee, and a ground of other people to form a gang all working towards uncovering the truth of the town. He didn't expect to be found out, controlled, and jailed. And there was no way he had ever expected that Josephine would meet Harper the way she did, and what happened afterwards was included in that entire last chunk.
Just as he stood up to grab blankets for Elliot and Robbie, the phone rang, waking the two boys. Arthur made it to the phone first.
"Arthur here."
Elliot and Robbie watched him, the latter holding onto his boyfriend protectively. They watched the old man's face fall into shock before he dropped the phone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So you saw a guy in the cult's robes running away from the water? Didn't Josephine kill the entire cult except for Arthur?"
Parker was asking Danni questions as the two of them, along with Imogen and Tom, rode in a boat together while the rest of Pine Springs' police force followed them in separate boats. Imogen was looking out, while Tom was calling out Harper's name over and over. Tom's voice was sounding scratchy already, which told Imogen that he had been out the whole time looking for Harper, just like the rest of them. She looked out, hoping to spot something, anything…
And that's when she saw it.
Her jaw dropped as she pointed to a coffin barely floating on the surface of the water. It looked like it had some of its seams burst, allowing water to get in, which would explain how come part of it was underwater. But that wasn't what bothered her. It was the fact that there was a coffin in the water in the first place. As far as everything she knew went, none of the victims were buried in the lake. Their bodies were all brought ashore and were given proper funerals.
She couldn't gather the ability to say anything, but Tom had noticed her pointing, so he did the talking.
"Guys! Look!"
The next few minutes went by quickly for the group. They were the closest to it, and they had the police chief on their boat, so while Parker and Tom swam out to the coffin to get it, Imogen flashed a light to guide them back. Danni held her breath unconsciously, hoping that this was just an overlooked coffin, that the theory forming in her head wasn't true, that Parker and Tom bringing the coffin aboard wasn't signaling the end of the search despite her mentally begging it to be over earlier…
With the help of a crowbar Parker had brought on board, "just in case", he had said, he pried the lid off.
Parker blinked multiple times, trying to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. Imogen was beginning to hyperventilate. Danni began to wish more than ever in her life that she was wrong. And Tom, having helped Parker move the lid off, was the last person to see inside the coffin, and was now numbly staring at the body inside.
Harper's eyes were shut, her mouth slightly open and her head tilted back. Her wrists were bound behind her back, and there seemed to be blood at the bottom of the coffin. Her hair stuck to her forehead, and what was worse, she wasn't breathing or moving at all.
Silence reigned within the group on the boat for what seemed like forever, though it was only a minute. That silence of shock, horror, and heartbreak was broken first by Imogen's agonized scream. Then came Danni's sobs, followed by Parker shakily speaking on his radio to the rest of the force. Finally, Tom silently and numbly fell on his knees, unable to take his eyes off his dead girlfriend.
Harper… no… you can't be…
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
His grandfather suddenly dropping the phone with an expression of horror and shock on his face did not mean anything good.
It didn't help that he was deliberately not looking at them at all. Within seconds, Elliot saw his grandfather fall to the floor, looking clearly like he was holding back tears.
While he went to help his grandfather, Robbie rushed to the phone, where he heard the voice of Parker Shaw. Robbie quickly asked what had happened, what did he say that got his Elliot and Harper's grandfather so shaken up. The moment he finished his question, Parker could be heard trying to breathe over the receiver.
After a long minute of this, Robbie was beginning to panic himself. "I'm so sorry to sound like this officer, but what the hell happened?! What did you tell Elliot and Harper's grandfather?!" His now raised and worried voice was sharpened, and Parker finally got the strength to repeat the words. Immediately, Robbie's eyes went wide with disbelief. It couldn't be true. There was no way. And yet, it was too late for practical jokes. And no one would joke about a friend's death to their elderly grandparent. At least, he didn't think Parker would.
"What is it?!" Elliot asked, getting terrified. "What happened?!"
"… I'm so sorry, Elliot… I'm so sorry… You have no idea, I am so sorry-"
"Robbie you're scaring me!" Elliot practically screamed. Both people around him were suddenly acting weird, to say the absolute least. "Who's on the phone, what did they say?!"
"… Elliot, I-"
"I can take it, Robbie, just give me the phone!"
As Elliot switched places with Robbie and spoke into the phone, he heard Parker take a sharp, deep breath, as though he would be the hardest person to explain to. At last, Parker told Elliot the news. And the words Elliot never wanted to hear finally came out of Parker's mouth.
"We- The four of us… I'm so sorry, Elliot… Harper's not coming home. She- She can't… She drowned. It was most likely murder."
Unlike his grandfather, Elliot managed to keep hold of the phone as everything just froze and muted around him. He felt like he was having a nightmare that felt all too real, his vision hazy as though he was in a dream. He wanted to scream to Parker over the phone that he must be joking, that he could cut the prank out and put his sister on the line, but hearing Imogen and Danni crying over the phone made it all horrifically real. He could hear absolutely nothing from Tom, which only cemented the news.
He shakily thanked Parker and hung up, then felt his body go on autopilot as his grandfather managed to move to him and hug him tightly, accompanied by Robbie, all three with tears streaming down their faces. Elliot couldn't feel anything though. It was too much. He couldn't bear to repeat the thought to himself, but he somehow did.
Harper's dead, and she's never coming home.

Pride - a Sean Kuraly Imagine
Tumblr media
Summary: There’s a fun parade in Boston today, and Sean, your boyfriend, is taking you for a date.
Warnings: Homophobia, Geese
Rating: G for Geese
Word Count: 940
It’s the best day of the year. You’ve been waiting for this moment for your whole life. You’ve always loved parades, and this one is extra special, not just because of what it is, but because of who you’re going with. Your boyfriend, Sean, has offered to take you to the parade for a date, and naturally, you accepted. The two of you are all decked out, him in blue with a dick hat on his head and you in pink with a pussy hat on yours, and you’re ready to go.
After all these years, there’s finally a Straight Pride Parade, and it’s about freaking time. You get to the parade with Sean, and it’s full of heterosexual couples wearing blue and pink with penises and vaginas on their heads. There are also members of the Westboro Baptist Church in attendance, and rather than protesting, they’re engaging in the festivities, riding floats down the street and screaming about how much Connor McJesus loves all of them for not giving into sin.
Sean looks a little uncomfortable in the presence of the McJesus sermons, and you give him a sympathetic look. You know how much he hates playing in the same league as Jesus Himself; it draws so much more attention to him than he wants. Luckily, most heterosexuals only watch the Oilers and the Leafs, so they don’t know who Sean is. Everyone knows that all Bruins fans are gay, so none of them will be at today’s event.
“Come on, baby,” you say, tugging at his arm. Sean goes with you, walking away from the Westboro Baptist Church and into a hidden alley. “What’s a straight pride parade without a little straight pride?”
You start kissing him deeply, but Sean isn’t kissing back.
“What’s wrong, baby?” You ask.
“I’m sorry, (y/n),” he says. “I just don’t want to do this in public.”
“You’re just full of excuses!” You scream, and Sean flinches. You don’t feel bad, though. It’s true. The two of you have been dating for almost a month now, and every time you try to have sex, Sean tells you that he isn’t ready yet. You don’t push too hard, knowing that he’s scared premarital sex will upset McJesus and cause Him to place an eternal curse on Sean’s team, but you’re growing impatient. Maybe dating a hockey player was a bad idea.
“Baby, I promise once we get married, I’ll make sweet, tender love to you,” Sean says.
You sigh. “I know,” you say. You debate telling him that you don’t want that, you want something rougher, but you decide to save that argument for later.
Before Sean can respond, a man walks over to you. Or, well, a man walks over to Sean – he pays you no mind, acting like you’re not even there, and pulls Sean into a hug. No, no – not a hug. An embrace.
“What the hell are you doing, you motherfuckers?!” You shriek. “This is a straight pride parade!”
“Chill,” the mystery man says as he pulls away from Sean, though you don’t miss how he keeps one arm around your boyfriend. Now that you can see his face, you recognize him as Danton Heinen, one of Sean’s teammates, and you’re pretty sure he’s gay. “Can’t I hug my best friend?”
“HE’S NOT YOUR BEST FRIEND!” You scream, realizing what’s happening. “SEAN, BABY, HE’S GAY! GET AWAY FROM HIM!”
With all the noise, a few Westboro Baptist Church members come running over, and Sean and Danton both look panicked. Sean starts running, and Danton runs after him. You chase after them, too, and the wild goose chase leads you all the way to the Fens, where you find a huge flock of Canada geese arranged in a circle, as if they’re protecting something. You try to get closer, but one of the geese attacks you, biting your leg.
“SEAN!” You scream, even as you know he isn’t going to come for you. “I NEED A RABIES SHOT!”
Your voice attracts a few people, all giving you very strange looks, and one of them starts to approach you. Some of the geese flee, and your attention turns to them. The opening in the circle reveals Sean and Danton in the middle, kissing passionately.
The next thing you know, a man is hovering over your face, looking right into your eyes with a piercing blue gaze.
“You alright? You fainted,” the man explains, pulling back and offering you a hand.
You take his hand, skeptical of his intentions, but before you can question him, the man explains himself.
“You fainted after – well, that scene,” he says, gesturing to where the herd of geese is still gathered, once again shrouding Sean and Danton. “I’m Jaro, by the way. But call me Crackhalak.”
“Wait… aren’t you…?”
“One of Sean’s teammates, yes,” he says, then drops your hand as if thinking better of helping you up. “Say, now that he and Danton are, well, you know…”
“Obviously we’re done,” you say.
“Hm, yeah, that’s what I thought,” Crackhalak says. He gets up, leaving you laying on the ground, leg still bleeding from where the goose bit you. “For the record, I know McJesus personally, and he’s going to send you straight to the depths of Sidney Crosby’s basement. Good day.”
With that, he walks away. You lay there on the grass, contemplating the events of the day, and take off your pink pussy hat, throwing it to the geese. You start to cry, wondering how everything could have possibly gone so wrong, when you hear a shout from the herd of geese.
“Choke me Danny!”

Danny thinks he's done a wonderful job all things considered. His city is safe, no one has died yet, no major injuries, Vlad had screwed off after Danny beat him within an inch of his afterlife (Danny learned that Vlad was a revenant abusing dirty ectoplasm for powers-not a halfa), ect.
Most of his rogues gallery also stopped bothering him once it became clear he was having trouble keeping his increased power in check and was trying hard not to hurt them. Unfortunately there was one who refused to leave him alone. A warrior princess was demanding his hand in marriage as she needed to be married by the summer solstice of next year or the throne would be passed down to her younger sister, who was already married.
It didn't matter how many times he said no, she kept coming back and challenging him for his hand. Each time she came back stronger and with new tactics and weapons to try. He was starting to fear she might actually win one day. That day might be sooner rather than later as her latest scheme was cutting it close.
Deciding that 1. Amity didn't need him anymore if he closed the portals 2. He was probably going to have to leave anyway if he loses and 3. He didn't have a future in this world as Fenton anymore he leads her on a wild goose chase back into the GZ and causes the portals to collapse in on themselves. The princess laughs, thinking he had given up. But no.
Danny put a curse on himself to turn him into a bat for the next year or so, a full month longer than the princess had left to find a spouse. She screams. Appearently she had a phobia of bats, who knew? Anyway he was left alone to fly through the Infinite Realms and find a new home.
He found a new world easily thanks to the natural portals of the IR and crossed though. Immediately being pelted on all sides by freezing cold rain was not what he expected but its what he got as he flew over a sign that proclaimed the city beneath him was called Gotham. The little glowing white bat flew through the night for hours before seeing a fruit bowl laying innocently on a kitchen counter through a window. Whats more it was in some giant manor so the occupants probably wouldn't mind if he ate an orange or two.
Right?
Needless to say a kid around the age of 11 or twelve walked in on him clutching an apple like his life depended on it while furiously munching. The kid looked...excited? He started going on about names and what he would need to care for him. Danny wasn't really listening, he didn't realize how hungry he had been until he started eating. He waited until the kid had looked away to turn himself and his apple invisible. This bothered the kid who looked suspicious but went to look for "the bat" anyway.
Later, while Danny was taking a shower in the kitchen sink to wash off the remains of his meal (I headcanon that Danny is a bit of a neat-freak) some other guy walked in holding an empty coffee mug and wearing eyebags that would put a raccoon to shame. They just stared at eachother for a solid few seconds before Danny started squeeking in rage and covering himself with the washcloth he was using to scrub himself clean. It looked like something out of a cartoon. Tim thought he was hallucinating but why would he hallucinate a glowing white bat with hearts all around it (that part isn't real) taking a shower in the kitchen sink. Was his subconscious trying to tell him something??
The next victim person to spot him was Duke who just stood in his doorway as this glowing white bat rolled an orange down the hallway. He decided this was a problem for the night crew and went to tell them.
Alfred saw a small shock of white fur and heard squeeking. His first thought was 'rat' and he didn't even hesitate. Danny dodged 3 bullets and got the hell out of the kitchen.
The batfam are debating on whether this was a shifter or an meta animal that was experimented on.

Adult Tim learns he appearently has a time traveling, dimension hopping, clone son named Danny who keeps evading Red Hood and Damian and leading them on wild goose chases for fun.
After confirming he was not de aged and he had a solid alibi for the past four days and the blood they had managed to snag from the kid (don't ask how) showed signs of cloning shenanigans did they finally agree on what to do.
Which is why they had the kid tied up like a mummy sitting on the couch in one of Red Hoods safe houses trying to explain to this very sassy teen that they had no intentions to harm him and just wanted to keep him safe and give him a normal life.
This, however, made Danny panic and phase out of his bindings before throwing a smoke bomb on the ground and yelling, "I'M NOT GOING BACK TO SCHOOL!!!" in the same way people talk about prison before escaping.
Red Hood looked Red Robin directly in the eyes before saying, "That one is definitely yours."
