Hal, frozen in place, seriously reconsidering his thoughts on rich people and their butlers: "That's... nice of him."

A grayscale, 4 panel comic featuring a simplified humanoid character with bunny ears and tail. It only has one hand that's a floating circle. All text is in lowercase. A filter is over the entire image that makes the texture grainy like paper. The title for the comic in the upper left is "Comic Number Zero - Test".

In the first panel the character gestures towards the speech bubble to it's right - winking to the camera and ears raised happily. In the background are dark grey splotches from the top left corner and wrapping under the bottom of the speech bubble. Little glowing outlines of pentagons are dotted around the panel. Dotted screen tone rays go out from the bubble. They say "Hi! I'm learning comics".

Panel 2 shows the character walking to the right and facing towards the reader. The grey splotches follow the trail they're walking. The dialogue is split between two speech bubbles - one at the top left connected to the one at the bottom right. "I don't know how, but I have an idea!"

Panel 3 has the character enthusiastic as they point towards the left of the panel. More splotches from the top corner to the bottom right behind the bubbles! This time with stars surrounding the bubbles, too. The slogan is broken into three bubbles for emphasis - "Instinct, Iterate, Improve".

The last panel has the character on the left like the metaphorical camera panned to the right. Their ears are drooped as they sigh in exhaustion - one hand on the top of their head. Vertically behind them is a large, dotted screen tone that spans the panel and fades halfway. The character says "wish me luck..."

Finally, the time it took to make the comic is listed underneath the last panel. It took 1 hour and 32 minutes.

So overall I think my usage of the comic program I am using is good and my understanding of the basic stuff improved by just doing. I really liked how the panels act as their own independent canvases - being basically a special layer folder type.

However, I want to rethink my little character I use here. The ultra simple style helps, but I didn't really push the expressions or features much. I also have a feeling I wasn't exactly on model so I should practice (my first thought is a turn around and little sketch sheet, but I'm not sure I need to go that hard lmao).

In addition, I was totally not thinking about my camera placements here. It was generally okay, but I should have had that last panel with the bunny on the right. Obviously, I also want to be faster. That's more of a long term goal, though.

I think I'll stick with 4 panel comics for a while

Summary: apply more character design fundamentals, keep in mind real life camera work, and study some comic fundamentals + stuff from other comic artists I like.
