i’ve known a life
where canvases
have crashed
into one another.
where god broke himself
from the eyes of humanity.
where hummingbirds
sipped nectar.
and snakes. poison.
i’ve known a life
that is hard
yet beautiful.
fading.
and constant.
a life that is...
bound.
holy.
and free.

pain II
pain.
you’ve become a friend. you’ve broken me into a hundred pieces and I’m finding a way to put myself back together again.
you’ve taken my stars away, the only place i call home.
you’ve shattered the ceiling of my mind & broken the rays of joy i held so close. you’ve found a way to live within me and i don’t know how to escape your hold. i’ve learned to love you. hate you. find you. and adore you. all at the same time.
to me you’re beautiful. yet deadly. you’ve taught me all I should know but the memories....my god the memories.

i’ve fought enough battles to realize the power of love and in all of my fighting, out of my many days of running away from her, i’ve learned that she will have her reign. because love is the crown of the universe and we all deserve to gather at her throne. pure. uncorrupted. blissful. peaceful love. Shattered Glass
shattered glass.
you pick up a piece
just enough to see your empty reflection.
what should love look like.
does she look like you
or has she found herself
crawling from the foundations of your chest
leaping into the black ocean of your tears.
she asks
mawu (queen) before I drown
why do these tears
these soft knives
fall from your eyes
him you say.
love hears the soft ache in your heart
sees truth in your brown eyes
and she weeps.
not for the heartbreak.
not for the longing.
not for the man who took everything.
but for the memory of who you were.
love takes your face in the palm
of her hands
my dear
the deadliest sin
is not lust envy nor greed
the deadliest sin
is forgetting who you are,
when you exchange your royalty
for only half of a man
or no man at all.
that is why i call you queen.

she was the kind of fire
that could not be touched.
skin too thick to cut.
lightning strikes at her hips.
she is doused in ivy & overgrown lilies.
she was the kind of fire
that burned whole cities.
she came across a man whose
blood was thicker than water.
inside him
was a beast that couldn't be tamed,
a harmonious being with
the sound of ancient hums in his chest
and moonlight inside his eyes.
his fingertips could bend galaxies alone.
and together they joined
in the essence of love.
the sun rose each morning
to witness the beauty of their chaos.
And each night, they warmed
the ground of mother earth
singing of their love
for one another:
forevermore
forevermore
forevermore.

Under the midnight sky, she whispered these words to me…
I didn’t become
This beautiful overnight.
I was broken,
Beaten,
Bruised by life’s unexpected
Hate for me.
There was a time
I dwelled in darkness
Simply because the pain
Felt too good,
But I could no longer take
The endless nights of tears
Raining upon my pillow case,
Nor the loneliness that dwelled
Within my heart.
I could no longer take
The emptiness
That drained my soul
Each day.
And so,
I became the other part of myself.
The part I knew could emerge
From the darkness
With a bursting light.
So, like I said, I didn’t become
This beautiful overnight.
