Quote
My disorders, my fatigues, my forced interest in physiology have led me to scorn all speculation as such. And if, during so many years, I have made no progress in any direction, at least I shall have learned what it is to have a body.
E.M. Cioran, Drawn and Quartered, 68-9

Of all the ways of filling one's life and of creating the illusion of purpose and worth, none seems so effective as the voluntary subjugation to a set of duties. The satisfaction derived from the daily performance of duties is so unalloyed that the inclination is strong to pile duty upon duty and revel in their performance. - Eric Hoffer, 1955

"There's a Bene Gesserit saying," she said.
"You have sayings for everything!" he protested.
"You'll like this one," she said. "It does: 'Do not count a human dead until you've seen his body. And even then you can make a mistake.'"
Frank Herbert, Dune

On the Impulses of The "Scholarly" Class
The people who bend history are stuck in books like bent poles themselves.
Yet still, their bookish hands get paper cuts; if anything, they bleed more than from a knife or sword. I wonder, is paper made for them, or have they been made that way for the thirst of the page?
Walled off from the winds, their faces are like a cherub but false rather than innocent. Indeed, they do not have a youthful love or precocious nature...Witness! Laughter, treated like a burp: involuntary and shameful.
And then they go after your heroes.
With bony fingers and shrill voices.
But the sweetest smiles you've ever seen.
They'll grab your head, pull your ears, and impale you on a beam.
So interesting. Men flaccid and women dry from the theft of their "dangerous moment".
But before even sex comes the dangerous sentence, the cheeky word, the daring ellipsis...

執行猶予か終身刑か区別のつかぬ人生。 身体はさながら肉の檻か、死こそ最後の審判か。
A life indistinguishable from probation or a life sentence. Is the body, as it were, a cage of flesh, or is death the final judgment?

Whenever you are about to say something, it should always pass through four gates:
The first gate asks "is this true?"
The second gate asks "Is this necessary?"
The third gate asks "Is this kind?"
The fourth gate asks "Can these three gate bitches tell you what to do? Send post"
And then you send post
