Whumpee let out a long sigh as they sunk into the hospital bed. Days were going by like a blur, they often hardly understood what was happening or remember what had happened.
The one thing they did know, was caretaker was here. No matter how much time went by, caretaker was by their side explaining everything, telling them to rest, keeping them fed and hydrated by hand if needed.
"You must be tired, you've been here with me for days. How long will you stay?" Whumpee mumbled, crawling their fingers across the bed until they found caretaker's hand.
"Until you're coming with me." Caretaker smiled, squeezing their hand back.

The scene where Whumpee wakes up in bed after everything he's been through is also one of my favorite scenes. Maybe not in a hospital, but in a small, comfortable, and quiet home for recovery.
Whumpee will wake up to see an unfamiliar ceiling, confused about his location, and not remembering how long he slept (or perhaps was unconscious). Wake up in a comfortable bed with soft pillows and warm blankets. Maybe there is a bolster on the side to keep him from falling. Whumpee's body had been cleaned and his wounds had been treated and he was even dressed in soft pajamas.
His whole body must have felt sore; perhaps his head was heavy, and his mind was blurry. Even though he wanted to get up, Whumpee actually had difficulty moving.
Caretaker will come in not long after and immediately rush to stop Whumpee from waking up. Calm him down and patiently explain the situation that has occurred. Caretaker will say what ultimately happened to Whumper, Whumpee's condition, where he is now, and how long he has been lying there. Whumpee tried to understand, even though he was still confused.
Then, the Caretaker will feed Whumpee broth or soup and help him take medicine. Caretaker will also probably replace Whumpee's pajamas with new ones.
While changing into his pajamas, Whumpee could see that his body was covered in wounds, bandages wrapped around everywhere, bruises, and he could begin to smell the antiseptic smell from his body. Caretaker says don't think about it; Whumpee will be fine and recover soon.
After that, maybe Caretaker will lay Whumpee down again. Accompany him while stroking his head and holding his hand, trying to provide comfort. Whumpee was lulled and went back to sleep peacefully.
(Anything you want to add?)

Year of Whump January 15 Prompt!
experimental injection / threatening loved ones / warehouse / warm bubble bath / “I promise this won’t hurt”
Posting early because I was very inspired! An AU that includes IRIS for once. This is a glimpse into some ideas I've had for a while now, enjoy!
CW: kidnapping, inhumane science experiments, dehumanization, captivity, muzzles, restraint, autistic character being overstimulated, manipulative caretaker, nightmares, human weapon trope & mention
▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸
The doctors- if you can even call them that - surround Jackie, they stink of gauze and chemicals and death, death, death. The whole of the IRIS building stinks of it. Jackie could smell it even before they'd begun to inject him with this pale, glowing green liquid.
"Hold him still," someone commands. Useless, Jackie has been stronger, and stronger still, with each passing day. "You are safe, Mr. Reid." He lets out a scream, like a big cat's roar, as the needle presses into his stretch-marked false muscles. He's sobbing, biting, thrashing. The metal restraints are bending and bowing with his strength.
The doctors just watch, stare, eyes behind goggles observing him like a prized cut of steak; like a natural disaster. Jackie gnashes at a hand coming near him, but the IRIS doctors have had him muzzled since he bit one scientists hand off entirely. Jackie doesn't know why he chewed, why he swallowed, and why it felt fantastic.
He bangs his head back against the metal table over, and over, as green liquid shines through his skin in every vein inside his contorted body. He screams out at them, at god, at anyone. He's begging for his mother, he's threatening them with death. Nothing he says will matter, he is an animal to them. He grinds his teeth so hard on the bit of the muzzle it snaps in half. He swallows the plastic without hesitation, choking it down just to be rid of it.
His metal table is wheeled through monochrome hallways as his cries turn to begging and whimpering, the medicine slowing and settling.
---
"The date is September 12th, 2017. State your name for the record."
"J-jackson Reid," he trembles out into the muzzle.
"Mr. Reid, may you state the reason for being at this facility."
"Test- testing. I v-volunteered." His muscles strain, too big and powerful for him, he used to be so lean and fit, now he looks like a freak. He knows he must.
"What drug are you here to test, Mr. Reid." The scientist's eyebrow raises observing, watching, like any other eye or camera shoved at him.
"I don't know."
"Subject has forgotten name of experiment, refer to psychiatrist for evaluation-"
"I don't want another fucking shrink!" Jackie feels the rage but distant, not him, him but not him.
"Calm down Mr. Reid. You are safe in the care of our psychiatrists I assure you."
"Can we just do this another time?" Something is surging in him, but it always is these days. "Please just let me sleep."
The scientist stares hard at him. "For now, fine. But you must complete the questionnaire at least once weekly, as you know. It will not hurt you."
"I know," he says, small.
She leaves, and he tries to find any comfort in the metal prison of a bed.
--
Jackie is awoken suddenly. A light is shining in his room. Great, what's this fucking place doing now, is his groaned thought.
Until a figure steps out of the light. They look around, and glowing eyes land on him. Jackie tenses, the metal groaning. Adrenaline pumps into him, and its painful. He cries out. A hand falls over his mouth. He gasps into it, staring up.
"Looks painful. Get some rest, love." The strangers voice is echoing, resonating, surrounding him. Yes… Yes he would like some sleep. Rest would be good. Yeah.
He sleeps.
--
Jackie slips into the waking world in a slow, climbing jump into awareness. He feels warm, tired, slippery. He raises his hands, and through a fog he sees… bubbles.
He jolts up, gasping. His hand lightly cracks the blue-green bathtub below him. He winces and pulls it away, gritting his teeth in preemptive apology. But no one is around. Jackie can hear them though. In the house next door, in the street outside, and… in the next room over. He sits up, water sloshing around him.
"Hello?" he calls. The sound of someone saying "shit", followed by rustling, and someone moving to just outside the door. It opens upon someone in a black robe with a black mask over the top half of their face.
"Hi," they speak. Their voice is rough, worn out, and distinctly a northern English accent. They smell like they've just rolled in freshly mowed grass then dumped river water on themself. "Before anything- You're safe. Don't use your muscles too much, they're all torn, literally all. You've been strained for so long I can't even guess."
"Who… Am I still in IRIS? Are- Will you-" Jackie backs against the wall behind the bath slowly, trying to seem compliant and small. The indented scar along his cheeks and nose grimly keep his mind on pain, pain, pain. "Don't hurt me."
The masked person sighs. "Like I said, you're safe. Jackson Reid?"
"Jackie," he corrects too quickly. "P-please just- just Jackie."
The person smiles, warm and friendly. "Jackie. I can't tell you my name yet. But you can call me The Cat, if you want."
"The… That is so fucking formal. Where am I?"
"I can't tell you, but you're-"
""Stop! Don't- don't say that a-anymore, please don't." Jackie holds his own head, trembling.
"Okay," the person agrees quickly. They move to sit beside the tub. Jackie blinks at them, arms curled near his chest like a tyrannosaurus. "I can tell you a thing or two, but just that. You're in my boss' apartment. I'm taking care of you. The bubble bath is a spell of mine, it helps the healing of tissue."
"Magic. M-may as fucking well exist after the shit I've s-seen."
"Have you always had a stutter?"
"What does- does it matter?"
"We're worried the experimental shit they tricked you into damaged your brain. One of us- there's an 'us' by the way- can work with heads and hearts. She took a look and there's… weird shit, let's just say."
This makes Jackie snort, despite it all. "Weird shit? That's the b-best you got huh?"
The stranger sends him a wry smile. "When it comes to the fuckers at IRIs, it could be anything. I'm… sorry. You were just a citizen. You didn't deserve this. Not that those- those asswipes fucking care."
Jackie hums, and lays back into the water. He hasn't stopped shaking since he's woken up. The masked person tsks and reaches out, holding Jackie's arm. Jackie jolts, but he was trained to not pull away. He sits still for the examination, letting himself be bathed. He doesn't even want to know the punishments a magical person would give. IRIS's were enough.
---
Hours later, Jackie has been laid to sleep in the guest room of the house. The mask finally comes off. Long hair tumbles down as the hood is removed.
Marvin scratches long nails through their hair, shaking it out and sighing. Unnatural, inhuman blue eyes scan the coffee table. They pick up their burner phone and pull up the photo gallery. Plopping onto their boss' sofa, they scroll through photos of several dark haired chilren and teens with their mum. A cruel joke compared to the muzzle-scarred man with over-stretched, bulking muscle on a too small frame. They've been stalking Jackson for their boss for months. He's an asset, one who will become a great soldier for them. IRIS will be expecting him, sure, but expectations mean nothing in the face of the beast they've created.
Marvin's eyes downcast, then close. The death threats they were ordered to send Jackson Reid's family still disturb them. But they had to make sure; Jackson has to have connections to no one but their team from here on. They puff out a stressed breath, and pull the blanket and pillows from the back of the sofa to form a bed. Their boss will be home to de-brief Jacks- Jackie tomorrow, then they can begin training him properly. For now the healing bath and a good rest should help him begin to see the coven as safe.
Marvin curls up, and sleeps.
Jackie tosses an turns in his sleep, nightmaring of a metal muzzle digging through his flesh until his teeth fall out. He will wake to a new life - well, a new, new life - tomorrow. A mattress and blankets will soothe out the knots made by the metal and medication. He is no longer a prisoner. Things can only go up from here, Jackie is sure.

you know what trope drives me absolutely feral? Repetition. Just :
"Hey, hey, it's okay"
"Shh, you're safe, you're safe, it's alright "
"Look at me. Hey, look at me"
"Stay with me. Come on, just stay with me"
"It's over. It's over now."
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry"
"I'm here. I'm right here"

As much as I love Whumpee x Caretaker...
Rb if you think Caretaker can be a brother, a friend, or just some guy who found Whumpee at the right place, right time and stay that way

living weapon whumpees who, during the first few months of recovery with caretaker, are foreign to the concept of comfort‼️‼️‼️
have them flinching away from caretaker's soft touch because they believe they don't deserve it‼️‼️‼️
have a caretaker gently massage living weapon whumpee's shoulders, soothing words further adding to whumpee's overall confusion before they eventually lean into caretaker's warm touch‼️‼️‼️
have caretaker's soft words and hands holding whumpee's face snap them out of their conditioning after something / someone accidentally triggered them, startled at first before recognizing that, caretaker wasn't a threat, they were safe with them and that whumper wasn't here anymore ‼️‼️‼️

Villain stared at Hero, who stood bleeding all over his expensive doormat. ‘Hey.’ The Hero croaked, swaying to a side. They tried for a charming smile, but there was blood in their teeth. ‘Mind if I…crash here for tonight?’
And then they did crash. Into the fucking floor.

Whumpee thinks Caretaker is their new master. Good trope, right? But check this out;
Caretaker doesn't notice.
Because the morning after the day they were rescued, all Whumpee did was get Caretaker a cup of coffee. It was only after then that Whumpee realized new master new rules, and Caretaker might not like coffee at all. So after an hour or so of a panic attack, Whumpee decides to stay put and not do anything.
But Caretaker didn't say anything about that coffee, so Whumpee should probably keep doing that?
And so, every morning, Caretaker gets a cup of coffee, says thank you, that's a nice gesture, and gets done with the day, while Whumpee tries to stay as quiet and unnoticed as possible. Not angering Caretaker is their top priority. Caretaker notices Whumpee is really, really quiet, but hey, they might just like it quiet. They do seem a little scared, but they've been putting off well, so Caretaker is positive that they'll get better with time.
Then Caretaker hears Whumper liked a cup of coffee every morning.
That's.. a strange coincidence.
I hope that's a coincidence.
And they finally try to talk to Whumpee about it, and Whumpee breaks into tears and Caretaker realizes what a mess this is,

God, I love sickfics that cut between a Whumpee’s current illness, and illnesses they’ve had in the past. Before, being sick was traumatic and lonely. Maybe they were neglected or even ostracized for their illness. In the present day, they don’t know how to handle being loved.

Caretaker’s that are obsessively possessive:
Throwing their arm over whumpee’s shoulders, pulling them close when someone approaches for a chat. (a new challenger approaches)
Showing up at random just to say ‘hi’ (really, they just want to make sure they’re not getting into trouble)((again))
Whumpee making a friend, but suddenly they avoid them like the plague. When asked about it, they just respond with “I’ve been warned not too” before speeding off like their life depended on it.
Trackers on their phone. That, or there’s something in that watch/bracelet that was given to them last week.
Making plans for them on their behalf, or canceling plans that they found unsafe without asking.

What Caretaker Said?
What did Caretaker say to Whumpee?
"Shhh shhh. It's okay. It's all over," Caretaker said to the struggling Whumpee.
"Look at me, hey, look at me," Caretaker said so Whumpee wouldn't see the wound.
"Welcome back, Whumpee," said Caretaker to Whumpee who had just woken up from a coma.
"You'll get better soon, I promise," said Caretaker while gently stroking Whumpee's cheek.
"It was just a nightmare, Whumpee. It's okay," said Caretaker while hugging the shaking Whumpee.
"Welcome home, Whumpee!" said Caretaker as she pushed Whumpee's wheelchair through the door.
"I'll help you clean up, okay? It's okay; just tell me if you're uncomfortable, and I'll come right out," said Caretaker as she sat Whumpee in the bathtub.
"It's okay. We will return your weight to normal. Just take it slow," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was fixated on the reflection of his thin body.
"No, Whumpee. Please don't, you need it," said Caretaker while holding Whumpee's hand which was trying to pull out the medical equipment.
"Okay, okay, inhale slowly, hold it, and exhale. Yes, good. Keep doing that. In and out," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was panicking to the point of having difficulty breathing.
"I know you don't like it, but you have to take medicine, Whumpee. You want to get better quickly, right? Look, your medicine has been reduced since last week," said Caretaker who was trying to persuade Whumpee who was sulking because he didn't want to take his medicine.
"Oh, look at it! Your wound is getting better day by day!" Caretaker spoke cheerfully as she changed Whumpee's bandages.
"Slow down; you'll choke," said Caretaker as she helped Whumpee drink.
"Oh, you're awake, Whumpee. How did you sleep?" said Caretaker to Whumpee who had just woken up.
"I'm not going anywhere, Whumpee. I'm here," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was half conscious and kept calling her.
"This is porridge. The doctor said you can eat a little bit. It might taste bland, but try it first, okay?" said Caretaker while carrying a tray containing Whumpee's first food after getting better.
"It's okay. Tell me when you're ready. I'll wait," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was still afraid to say everything he had experienced.
"Oh, God! I thought I was going to lose you!" said Caretaker gratefully to Whumpee who was conscious.
"Hm? Well, I guess a little snack before dinner would be fine. There's chocolate and chips in the pantry. Which would you like? Both? Fine. Let me get it," Caretaker said with a laugh when Whumpee very rarely asked for a snack before dinner.
"There, it's done! Clean and fresh!" said Caretaker happily after finishing bathing and dressing Whumpee.
"Give me a name," said Caretaker angrily when she saw Whumpee covered in wounds in front of her.
"What? I won't leave you. Who said that?" Caretaker said she was confused when she asked why Whumpee was crying when she got home.
"I'm glad you're getting better," said Caretaker while stroking Whumpee's hand.
"Okay, try to catch your breath. The morning air is very good for helping your recovery," said Caretaker as she invited Whumpee to sunbathe in the morning.
"You've been sleeping for too long, Whumpee. Was your dream so beautiful that you didn't want to wake up? Was I there too? You know, I really miss you," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was lying in a coma.
"I'll accompany you until you fall asleep. Don't worry, I'll also be here when you wake up. So, go to sleep, okay?" Caretaker spoke gently as she put the exhausted Whumpee to sleep.
"Just rest; you deserve that. Don't think about anything," said Caretaker as she slowly laid Whumpee down.
"I love you, Whumpee," said Caretaker while kissing Whumpee's forehead.

You know what? I don't give enough credit to comforting actions paired with violent ones. I'm not talking about after either, I mean soft touches while hurting whumpee
A knife in one hand and the other stroking whumpee's back
tying whumpee in an uncomfortable position and petting their hair
injecting a sedative/poison and singing a lullaby
putting a blade through whumpee while hugging them <3
a hand on their cheek and the other around their throat

“I’m sorry. I have to do this, okay?”
Said by Caretaker before:
Lowering Whumpee into a cold bath for their dangerously high fever
Lowering Whumpee into a lukewarm bath for their dangerously severe hypothermia (it feels boiling to them)
Doing stitches, cleaning and dressing a wound, etc.
Cauterization
Forcing them to eat/drink something after an extended period of illness and/or starvation
Resetting a broken bone
Field surgery
Dragging their ass to an actual hospital
Dragging their ass to an actual therapist
Restraining them during a violent (as in, physically harmful) flashback or nightmare
Inducing vomiting when the Whumpee clearly needs to, but can’t
Uncomfortable medicine (bad-tasting, syringes, aerosolized medicine through a weird mask, etc.)
Moving a Whumpee who’s in a particularly bad state
Tell me more.

"What on earth are you doing on the kitchen bench?" Caretaker asked curiously as they stuck their head into the kitchen to see what was making noise. There, Whumpee sat on the island with their legs crossed, grinning from ear to ear despite their clear nervousness.
"You told me I was allowed to break Whumper's rules. They never let me sit on counters, so that's what I'm doing."
Caretaker's confused frown curved up into a smile, pride no doubt evident. They took a few steps into the room and leaned against the nearest wall behind them. "Yeah? How's it feel up there?"
"Great!" they chirped. "I always used to sit like this, before. It's only a small aspect of the freedom I'm trying to reclaim, but one I'm excited to have back nonetheless."
