I love Benito so much. Is he a great guy? No. Is he even a good guy? No. But he's better than anybody gives him credit for, even himself. Especially himself.
But the way he kept making excuses to save Emi. The way he told her he'd try to help her dad, and only left to look around the lab after making sure Emi couldn't see out the window. The way he kept making fun of Emi and taking her mind off of the horrors at hand.
The way he held Jeffrey and encouraged him while trying so desperately to keep him alive.
He knows he isn't a good person. The most he tries for is honest. Every time he says some despicable shit, he follows it up with "at least I'm being honest". But everyone knows he's a quack, a fraud, a liar. He calls himself a doctor but he isn't one (not yet, maybe he really wants to be honest, maybe that's why he went to Panacea Industries that day, so he wouldn't be doomed to be a liar forever).
Of all his lies, the biggest is that he doesn't care. Cause facing the fact that he might not be as bad as he pretends, that he might save the little girl instead of the soldier, is too scary to bare. The fact that he's capable of being good, and deep down, he just might be.

no but actually post season 3 where billy ends up in a coma after starcourt and wakes up and remembers every awful thing he had to do and hes shaking with sobs remembering heather and her being his first victim when all she wanted to do was help him and he feels so guilty about it and max is like “no heather made it, shes alive” and billy doesnt believe her until heather comes walking in with steve and robin (there is much to explain, bills been out a while)
and at first billys relieved to see her alive but also doesnt want her anywhere near him because hes afraid he’ll hurt her again etc etc but heather just crawls into the hospital bed with him and holds him and reassures him shes fine and its over and theyre gonna be okay now and just.... best friends <3
#and then heathers there at the hospital all the time helping him out with physical therapy and whatnot when max cant be there cuz school#and eventually steve and robin start coming over too#and of course billy cannot hide his crush on steve no matter how hard he tries and heathers connecting the dots#and she and robin are already a thing#so theyre gossiping about their gay besties behind their backs placing bets on whos gonna be less of an idiot and make the first move#maybe a little scheming and scamming to push the timeline along cuz GOD heather and robin are gonna die of old age at this rate before#either of them do anything#nothing but respect for MY fruity four#WAIT AND IF HEATHER SHOWED UP BLONDE#AND BILLY TEASES HER LIKE 'WHAT?
