I didnt have any morgan prompts in mind, but maybe ones that arent smut related and are more comedic or character-focused?
Done, and I shall remind every Morgan lover following this blog to go check her tag ("Morgan le fey" and "morgan le fay") to see of any of the non-bumped prompts strike their fancy c}:

should keep track of how often superman's been brainwashed, it seems like a lot.
So far we've got by Amazing Grace, Sleez, the Eradicator, and Morgan le Fey... in comics published from between 1987 and 1991. and this is not guaranteed to include all of them b/c it's just what I remembered off the top of my head.
keeping track now: he gets mind controlled by mister z in blackout and loses his memory in that same plotline
he's also been mentally affected by braniac but not brainwashed by him

Girl Slaves of Morgana Le Fey (1971) is more than meets the eye!
Tumblr media
🫦Mildly Erotic Eurotrash or film about life and death?💀
Tumblr media
🧛‍♀️Yes the atmosphere is similar to Lesbian vampire films but the Dwarf is not Renfield from Dracula he’s from King Arthur’s Court.
Tumblr media
🧚‍♀️Queen of Fairy is well known in Scotland (and even in the Scottish witch trials). This film resembles the great film Devil’s Widow (1970) with Ava Gardner - that is based on the Tam Lin, famous legend of the queen of fairy. 🇫🇷 has similar tales such as The Story of the Queen of the Flowery Isles - La Reine de l'isle des fleurs.
Tumblr media
🛶Of course the oldest story behind this film is about Morgan le Fay, fairy enchantress of Arthurian legend and romance & Avalon, an island (with the boat) to which Britain’s legendary king Arthur was conveyed for the healing of his wounds after his final battle. It is first mentioned in Historia regum Britanniae (c. 1136). The island of ruled by the enchantress Morgan le Fay and her eight sisters, all of them skilled in the healing arts.
Tumblr media
🎥 Morgan offers immortality and beauty; if the offer is not accepted, a life of abjection among a group of older women (crone) is the victim's lot. However the invitation is appealing.
Tumblr media
🪦Immortality appears within psychoanalysis: for an uncanny excess of life, an ‘undead’ urge that persists beyond the (biological) cycle of life and death, generation and corruption.
🦄Oblivion 🍪, in a fairytale can be like the unlimited satisfaction of needs. Often, however, the hero finds his way back cleverly, or with the help of others. (Bettelheim 1987.) So here too. But when fantasy covers up a trauma, e.g. the loss of a mother, it can be like an attempt to keep parts of the mother alive forever.
Tumblr media
🛋️Freud equates the death drive with the ‘so-called ‘compulsion-to-repeat’ an uncanny urge to repeat painful past experiences that seems to outgrow the natural limitations of the organism affected by it and to persist even beyond the organism’s death. (Žižek 2006, 62-63).
Tumblr media
I❤️the visit of the morbid poet Louise Labé & the dancers during orgy + the Soundtrack
Beautiful scenery 🏰
Tumblr media
Soul Sanitarium review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (a fantasy film/horror elements are missing, but not the usual Hollywood 💩) This is what Labyrinth (1986) could not show🙂

ok the tolkien arthuriana post bc i kept saying i’d make it
background/overview
huh so he was actually a lot less inspired by arthurian legend than i initially thought and kind of denied its influence;
his main problem with arthurian legend was that it was not actually british: “Of course there was and is all the Arthurian world, but powerful as it is, it is imperfectly naturalized, associated with the soil of Britain but not with English; and does not replace what I felt to be missing. For one thing its 'faerie' is too lavish, and fantastical, incoherent and repetitive. For another and more important thing: it is involved in, and explicitly contains the Christian religion.” [letter 131]
he mostly wanted something that was uniquely british, mythological and actual concise storytelling but considering arthurian legend is a bit of a hodge-podge and was spread all across europe (and even further) it was decidedly not that (honestly “fantastical, incoherent and repetitive” is a very fitting description for arthurian legend as a whole--)
he also found the characters like arthur to be too idealised and over-powered
but still you can draw a lot of parallels and have fun there: there’s gandalf as merlin, galadriel as the lady of the lake, aragorn as arthur, etc.
but generally, having interacted and influenced by medieval and european literature, interaction with arthurian legend would have been inevitable whether or not he particularly liked it
sources?/further reading? (a lot on parallels if you’re interested in that): wikipedia on tolkien’s influences, arthurian influence on lord of the rings by daniel nozick, the letters of j.r.r tolkien, interrupted music, the making of tolkien’s mythology by verlyn flieger, aragorn and the arthurian myth by pascual mondéjar, gandalf and merlin: j.r.r. tolkien’s adoption and transformation of a literary tradition by frank p. riga, galadriel and morgan le fey: tolkien's redemption of the lady of the lacuna by susan carter,
and with that done, onto:
works!
sir gawain and the green knight
sir gawain and the green knight (1925) scholarly edition (i.e. middle english) edited by tolkien & e.v. gordon
(this is also what they had to say about the gawain poet:)
He was a man of serious and devout mind, though not without humour; he had an interest in theology, and some knowledge of it, though an amateur knowledge perhaps, rather than a professional; he had Latin and French and was well enough read in French books, both romantic and instructive; but his home was in the West Midlands of England; so much his language shows, and his metre, and his scenery...
sir gawain and the green knight - translation
sir gawain and the green knight, pearl & sir orfeo - edited by christopher tolkien
original work
the fall of arthur (written c.1930s; published 2013) - unfinished epic poem, edited by christopher tolkien
other??
a middle english reader (1922) - it’s tough to know where to really draw the line between arthurian legend & medieval literature because of how entwined they are but for intents and purposes enjoy this; it’s a glossary of medieval english :-)
the red book of westmarch (fictional hobbit manuscript) may be based on the red book of hergest (featuring the mabinogion -- for which alan lee also did some illustrations for!!)
and that’s more or less it. now enjoy some various quotes vaguely pertaining to arthuriana because i combed through his letters for this
But the feats of arms in (say) Arthurian Romance, or romances attached to that great centre of imagination, do not need to 'fit into a politically purposive pattern'. So it was in the earlier Arthurian traditions. Or at least this thread of primitive but powerful imagination was an important element in them. [183]
I actively disliked [C.S.L’s] Arthurian-Byzantine mythology; and still think that it spoiled the trilogy of C.S.L. (a very impressionable, too impressionable, man) in the last pan. [259]
But his own mythology (incipient and never fully realized) was quite different. It was at any rate broken to bits before it became coherent by contact with C. S. Williams and his 'Arthurian' stuff – which happened between Perelandra and That Hideous Strength. A pity, I think. But then I was and remain wholly unsympathetic to Williams' mind. [276]
You can (if you wish) shove in 'Arthur'* on some other date, when you are recovered fully. *=presumably a lecture on arthurian legend [48]
most of which are actually in the context of c.s. lewis who probably had a stronger connection to arthurian legend if this is anything to go by however i have never read anything by him so. erm. tolkien arthuriana post over. here’s the lord of the rings. ok bye thanks for reading

for anyone who is interested in a nuanced take on fairy beliefs vs the Christian Church in the Middle Ages, this book by Richard Firth Green was actually so good, if your library has it:
Tumblr media
[Image: Front cover of the book ‘Elf Queens and Holy Friars: Fairy Beliefs and the Medieval Church’ by Richard Firth Green]
like, obvs it’s just one person’s take on a very complex topic, but it’s well-written, well-researched, and it uses a bunch of Arthurian examples throughout to explore this dynamic (see under cut)
really interesting exploration of how the Church’s response evolved from the early-High Middle Ages (”dude, you believe in fairies? hhhmmm, do penance for 10 days”) to the Late Middle Ages/Early Modern Period (”kill them for heresy and witchcraft!”)
and how it enfolded vernacular/fairy beliefs into Christian doctrine as fairies being either a) demons or b) the illusions of demons (and how dangerous/bad these demons were depended on the time/location/cleric in question - some packaged fairies as “neutral” demons who fell when the rebel angels did, and who must be punished on Earth but will return to Heaven on Doomsday - potentially doing this to soften things for their parishioners, who often held these fairy beliefs and reconciled them with Christianity, uh, differently than the Church officially would prefer)
and enduring belief in fairies existed in both common and aristocratic circles (can see this in medieval romances, although they’re not the only source of evidence), rather than just being used as cultural “decoration” by a more sceptical upperclass
aaaaand because of this conflation of fairy = demon, you get a really interesting blend/overlap with medieval demonology and enduring “folk” beliefs (obvs not all of medieval demonology was just rebranded fairies, but some of it defs was - you see stories being retold with “devil” instead of “elf”, for example)
INCLUDING in Arthuriana - how you get Morgan the Fairy (”le Fay”) vs Morgan who was raised in a nunnery and learned dark magic there, the Lady of the Lake as a (largely) positive force, Merlin inexplicably as a (perceived to be...) Good Guy despite being the literal antichrist, the Green Knight and all the overlap with Christian symbolism in that story, etc, etc. and they all just either??? co-exist in the same stories or appear through either more fay or more ~Christian lenses depending on the version
and it creates a very interesting and very confusing soup of Stuff stemming from a very confusing - and sometimes dangerous - soup of official and unofficial beliefs evolving over hundreds of years
anyway, WRT Arthuriana it’s got (and ymmv on these, but they’re all interesting thoughts):
(i think in Gottfried’s Tristan???) apparently Tristan has a rainbow fairy dog called Petitcriu...name a knight less deserving of such a Good Boy smh
Chretien’s Yvain flooding out Laudine at the fountain (...jerk) as a continuation of the beliefs surrounding a magical Spring at Barenton
Gingalain moving from being the son of Gawain and the fairy Blanchemal (and having a fairy love interest, Pucelle) in the French OG version (~1200-ish) to being the son of Gawain and his human mistress (with Pucelle also being human) in a later 15th-C Middle English version)
AJDKN UJ IOE E Merlin’s conception, that one’s a wild ride - theologians REALLY didn’t like the idea of demons being fertile, and the work-arounds they came up with were...incredible. but skipping over that sheer comedy, the author draws links between Merlin’s conception and the general trend of claiming a fairy lover/whatever when a difficult-to-explain pregnancy arose. He also theorises that Geoffrey’s idea for Merlin’s father being a demon/fairy may have come from Nennius saying that Merlin/Ambrosius’ mother “never knew a man”. Later adaptations of this storyline made it even more fay-like (when they weren’t, like Robert de Boron, making it more fucked-up) by making Merlin’s father invisible (Wace) or a super attractive guy in swanky gold clothes (Layamon) - and Vortigern’s advisor explaining the creatures that lived between the earth and the moon until doomsday, etc, etc (walking that line between fairy and incubi, whichhhhhh was not clearly delineated in the Middle Ages the way it is now). also there’s one 13th-C Anglo-Norman poem where Merlin’s father is a bird that transforms into a dashing young squire, which isn’t terribly demon-y. So even though most versions of this story describe Merlin’s dad as an incubi-demon, what people understood this to mean may have been more fay-ish that we’d expect nowadays (depending on the reader, and also on authorial intention - some are pretty explicit that he’s a demon [many clerics keen to push this as the main narrative], while others refer to him as an elf or fairy). some contemporary scepticism during this time about Merlin having any sort of supernatural parentage as well
[none of the same Church anxieties about explaining away how the Plantagenets and other aristocratic families claim a female fairy ancestress - maybe bc there’s none of the stress about patrilineal bloodlines??? who knows! but yeah, much less thought given to those stories in ecclesiastical circles, and they were very popular in vernacular romances (male aristocratic wish fulfilment?). also, fairy enchantments =/= necromancy, so there are stories like the non-cyclic Lancelot where the Lady of the Lake is found out to be “a fairy by education, not by nature or heredity” (Elspeth Kennedy), with the spirits used in necromancy being demons, not fairies. also potential trend of female-associated magic becoming more passive and book-learned, gradually demonising it leading up to early-modern witch hunts.]
Geoffrey of Monmouth in his Historia and in the Vita Merlini being actually pretty circumspect about saying whether or not Arthur was alive/dead, returning/not returning, maybe due to his work/text being a (hypothesised) defence of the Welsh as being “civilised” (and having been so for centuries before the Normans came) - with the corollary that believing in Arthur’s return was somehow “uncivilised”. Author argues that this may be due to an association with fairy beliefs, and that Layamon is the one that makes Avalon explicitly fey. Also the author describes Arthur as living in a “feminised version of the Christian heaven” (iconic) and says that later writers and people could be very scornful of this belief held by the Britons/Welsh/etc, and that it was contrary to orthodox ways of thinking.
Links the “discovery” of Arthur and Guinevere’s bodies in Glastonbury in the late 12th-C as similar to when individuals found the bodies of their loved ones, thus making it much harder to believe (and hope) that they were still alive in fairyland. Makes a suggestion that the monks in Glastonbury who “found” these bodies may have been trying to curry favour with the English crown (i.e. champion/hope of the Welsh isn’t coming back) but also may have been trying to “help”/”save”/correct the thoughts/ideology of the Welsh (i.e. “set them on the correct path to salvation”). Lots of medieval writers describing Arthur as living in “fairyland”. Precedent of people visiting fairyland and returning, so Avalon/fairyland =/= a place only for the dead (i.e. Arthur isn’t dead). An Arthurian example, albeit a less explicitly fay one, is Lancelot getting in and out of Gorre (with Gorre as a “typically supressed and rationalised” version of fairyland) in Chretien’s Knight of the Cart.
Some stuff about the wild horde (distinct from the wild hunt) being presented by some writers as very penitential (i.e. they are departed souls that may look like they’re bearing arms/hunting/whatever as they did in life, but really they are in agony e.g. because their weapons burn them) and tbh demonic (black armour, carrying torches, ominous aesthetic). Other writers thought maybe it was - once again! - demonic impersonators rather than actual mortal souls. (Should note also that the wild horde/wild hunt motifs were not always associated with their being dead). Relevant in the Arthurian context because Arthur and his court were sometimes associated with the idea of the wild horde (as in, sometimes the wild horde is described as Arthur’s court living it up in a cool, undying sort of way - “in the likeness of knights hunting or jousting, commonly known as the household of Hellequin or of Arthur” [Etienne de Bourbon, a medieval writer] - with Hellequin’s household often being used to encompass either the wild hunt or the wild horde). Ultimate point made by the author (props to him, he’s always like “if i’m right” lol) that for many clerical writers, it was very uncomfortable to leave people with the impression that Arthur and his court were living it up in fairyland (and similar for other figures associated with the wild hunt/horde) and this idea needed to be corrected/shaped to suit more orthodox perspectives - e.g. tying in with notions of purgatory, etc.
Aaaand this one was exciting to me just bc i’ve vaguely heard about Arthur and his knights snoozing under a hill, but for some reason i could only remember this being in Victoria-era-and-onwards poetry. 3 versions of the same tale, where a servant looks for his master’s lost horse on a Sicilian mountain. Version 1) servant of a bishop finds his master’s horse in the beautiful palace of Arthur’s court beneath Mt Etna. Aside from the fact that the ancient wound Arthur received from Mordred opens once a year, it’s not very purgatory-like. Version 2) a dean’s servant is told by an old man that King Arthur has the horse on Mt Gyber (Mt Etna). he is told that his master must attend Arthur’s court in 14 days, but the dean laughs it off...then sickens and dies on the appointed day (whoops). Enough differences to this story compared to the first to suggest an oral circulation. Also a note in the version/text that such mountains are said to be the mouth of hell, and only the wicked are sent there, not the chosen. Version 3) Etienne again! Also likely changed with intervening oral circulation. The master is not an ecclesiastical figure, and Arthur’s palace is now a populous city - also Arthur is not referred to, just a nameless prince. There is a gatekeeper who warns the servant not to eat or drink while he’s there (that...is a very fairy-ish proscription). This mountain is apparently reputed to be the site of purgatory. The book author (Richard, i mean) ties these versions in with other stories/accounts of different entrances to purgatory (e.g. one on an island in an Irish lake) as being part of a gradual process of “rendering [...] fairyland purgatorial”.
Finally, Gawain in Roman van Walewein: To get to an ‘earthly paradise’ [i.e. King Assentijn’s garden with its fountain of youth - side note that ‘earthly paradises’ were often popularly described to be fairyland/where fairies live, in addition to their theological functions, e.g. Avalon was sometimes described as an earthly paradise...i should also say that purgatory was frequently thought to be located beside earthly paradise, so there’s the proximity element] and the castle containing it, Gawain must cross a river (guided by a magical talking fox) that a) has waters that burn like fire, and b) can only be crossed by using a bridge sharper than a razor. His reaction? “Is it the enchantment of elves or magic / that I see?”. He is then guided by the fox underneath the river through a tunnel, and is told that the river’s source is in the depths of hell, and “[the river] is the true purgatory / All souls, having departed from the body / Must come here to bathe.” So it’s a very strong intermingling of fairy and purgatorial imagery/ideas!
I dunno, I just found this very ??? satisfying to read
it leaned towards lit-crit at times (which, considering the subject matter, is honestly fair enough), but it was more respectful of vernacular beliefs than so many other academic takes i see (ofc ymmv re: anything to do with non-Christian major religions, but i think the author’s pretty solid on this!), and it had an explanation for the survival of these beliefs that imo made a lot of sense, especially from a pan-European perspective, not just a Celtic one
plus it explored the undeniable damage done by Christianity over history without making up some “ranged battle between paganism and the Church” that i see  e v e r y w h e r e  in casual Arthurian circles...which, like, i empathise with the vibe, but also! that’s just straight-up historical revisionism! (i blame MZB and the 80′s for that one)
(there was a fantastic post floating around a while ago about how the religious syncretism in Arthurian literature is much more interesting than peeling away all of the Catholicism in the medieval lit (...you ?? don’t end up with much left?) and saying that this is more “accurate” to some obscure original)
anyway yeah yeah ymmv but it’s v interesting 😊

[Spoiler Alert]
Finally finished Runaways Season 3 and it was awesome as always!!!
Literally loved every single thing about it, from the angst, the acting, effects, storylines, C&D crossover, Gert's death scene (which I admittedly cried to before washing the dishes), and mostly important: Elizabeth Hurley and her portrayal of Morgan Le Fey (which I felt is accurate to how the comics portrays her).
I really gonna miss this show. We were literally this close to getting Victor but I still love how it fully closes the story. I really hope Feige will reconsider and have this show revive, special since the story of Runaways in the comics is expanding and all of the fans are literally demanding for Victor and Klara to appear and how about resolving what Tandy saw in Alex's hopes.

Eternals: Who is Marvel's Black Knight?
https://ift.tt/2ZlOGks
Kit Harington will play Dane Whitman, Marvel's Black Knight in the Eternals movie. Here's what you need to know about the character.

tumblr
You Know Nothing…about the Black Knight.
Get it? Because the Black Knight is being played by Kit Harington? You know, the dude that played Jon Snow on Game of Thrones? So like, “you know nothing…” Ah, forget it.
Ahem.
So it seems that the Black Knight is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Eternals. This is a bit surprising considering that the classic Marvel Comics Black Knight really has very little to do with the world of the Eternals. But, Dane Whitman, the Avenger known as the Black Knight, is a great character with a rich and surprising history that stretches back to the early days of Marvel. Now, there is some history with the Eternals which we will get to in a bit, but not enough to make the Black Knight’s inclusion in the movie anything but surprising.
So, let us go on a regal and honorable quest and check out the history of Marvel’s latest cinematic champion: the Black Knight. Along the way, we’ll indulge in some speculation on how this swashbuckling swordsman could impact the MCU and The Eternals.
The First of His Name
Dane Whitman wasn’t the first hero to hold the name. The first Black Knight was Sir Percy of Scandia, a knight of Camelot. This early Marvel legend first appeared in Black Knight #1 (May 1955) and was created by Stan Lee and Joe Maneely. There were very few costumed heroes in these bygone days of the '50s, so Black Knight remains a little explored gem of a comic.
read more: Everything You Need to Know About The Eternals Movie
Sir Percy was a Knight of the Round Table who proudly served King Arthur and fought threats like Mordred and Morgan Le Fey, two villains who would appear years later in the Marvel Universe. The Black Knight wielded the Ebony Blade, a magic sword carved from a meteor by Merlin himself. Later, it is revealed that Percy was killed by Mordred and the mantle of the Black Knight began to be passed down to the fallen knight’s descendants. Some did him proud, but one darkened the once heroic name.
The Blackest of Nights
The Black Knight who would go on to join the Masters of Evil first appeared in Tales to Astonish #52 (1964) and was created by Stan Lee and Dick Ayers. One of Percy’s descendants, Nathan Garrett, a brilliant research scientist, led a spy ring until he was defeated by Giant Man (that's Hank Pym, folks). Disgraced, Garrett ran to Europe where he found the tomb of Sir Percy. Garrett was rejected by the Ebony Blade because of his dickheel tendencies. Embittered, he became a new Black Knight, but profaned Percy’s good name by becoming a villainous facsimile of Camelot’s champion.
read more: Marvel's Eternals Characters and History Explained
Instead of wielding the magic of Camelot, Garrett built weapons like a blaster lance and other hi-tech medieval nonsense. He also created a genetically engineered flying horse named Aragorn because I guess even villains like Tolkien?  But yeah, dude, don’t sell your method of making flying horses to make cheese, rob banks! The second Black Knight was a douche. Anyway, Garrett was again defeated by Giant Man, the Avengers, and Iron Man. In his final battle with Tony Stark, Garrett fell from Aragorn and was mortally wounded. Dying, Garrett summoned his nephew Dane Whitman which brings us to our man of the hour...
Avengers, Hero, Eternal?
So is Dane Whitman, the third Marvel character to use the moniker of Black Knight an Eternal? No, he is not. So who the hell is he?
Whitman is the nephew of Nathaniel Garrett. When the evil Black Knight lay dying after his battle with Iron Man, he summoned Whitman to see his side. There, Garrett made a face turn and begged Garrett to take the mantle of the Black Knight to restore honor to Sir Percy’s legacy. Whitman created his own costume, adapted some of Garrett’s weapons, saddled up Aragorn and became the new, modern Black Knight.
read more: Marvel's Eternals Comics Reading Order
This all happens in Avengers #47 (1967) by writer Roy Thomas and artists John Verpoorten and George Tuska. In his first adventure, the Avengers mistake Whitman for Garrett and a superhero smackdown ensues. To prove his worth, Whitman infiltrates the Masters of Evil and helps the Avengers. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes offer Whitman membership and the heroic legacy of Black Knight begins again.
Over the years, Black Knight has appeared in a handful of memorable stories. He was the catalyst of The Avengers/Defenders War when each team raced to find a cure after Whitman turns to stone thanks to a kiss by the Enchantress. Black Knight focused stories were few and far between even though the character was seemingly ever present in Avengers and early issues of Defenders. The first major change to Whitman came in Doctor Strange #68–69 (1984) by Roger Stern and Paul Smith where Whitman finally finds the Ebony Blade, the Merlin-forged sword of Sir Percy.
The Ebony Blade is more of a curse since if the sword draws even a drop of blood, Whitman will be horribly cursed.  With this tragic twist, Whitman rejoins the Avengers and becomes a member in good standing until Namor uses the sword to draw blood. Whitman is cursed and begins to transform into the same metal used to forge the Ebony Blade. What’s with Black Knight petrifying? It’s a whole thing.
Anyway, Whitman is cured by the ghost of Sir Percy and creates a high tech laser sword for himself. Yes, essentially, Black Knight began wielding a lightsaber. I swear to Kirby, if Kit Harington wields a lightsaber in these movies...
So What is the Black Knight Connection to the Eternals?
So where does all this fit in with Eternals lore? At one point, Black Knight became the leader of the Avengers. At the time, the roster experienced a major shakeup with a number of new members that included Crystal of the Inhumans and Sersi of the Eternals. As members of the Avengers, Black Knight and Sersi became lovers as the Eternal sorceress took a liking to the scion of Camelot. Sadly, a love triangle begins when Whitman develops feelings for Crystal and a whole mess follows. A villain named Proctor complicated matters further. This convoluted baddie was an alternate universe version of Whitman possessed by the Ebony Blade. To battle Proctor, Sersi and Whitman undergo an Eternal process called gann josin which bonds Sersi and the Knight together.
read more: The History of Ms. Marvel
So, for a short time, Whitman gains Eternal power and really, the whole thing is an overwritten mess because that's '90s comics for ya. But, this whole gann josin stuff creates a bond between Black Knight and Eternals lore. Could the film versions of the Knight and Sersi be lovers? In the comics, Sersi had a profound impact on Whitman. After they bonded, Sersi turned Black Knight’s heart to “stone” (again with the petrifying!) so he could remain emotionally removed from humanity and better serve the world as a champion.
The Eternal Future
As if this wasn't crazy enough, Black Knight eventually joined a team known as MI: 13, a British agency that battles the supernatural. There, Whitman believes he once again bonds with the Ebony Blade, but it turns out the sword is a fake forged by Dracula (!) with the purpose of corrupting Whitman. The Black Knight is too strong for the blade and uses the vampiric sword to battle Dracula’s forces. At this time, Black Knight also meets and falls in love with Faiza Hussain, a doctor who becomes Black Knight’s squire and eventually wields the blade Excalibur because good lord comics are awesome.
read more: The History of Moon Knight
So what role can be play in Marvel’s The Eternals?
Could the braintrust of the MCU combine the legacies of Percy and Whitman, revealing that Whitman is immortal, an act that would truly make Black Knight Eternal? Think about it, the Black Knight could have fought in Camelot as Sir Percy (and don't forget, Black Knight's armor showed up as an easter egg in Spider-Man: Far From Home) but also live in the modern world as Whitman. Will Sersi and Whitman continue their troubled romance? I guess we’ll learn next November as the saga of Marvel’s Black Knight takes a giant step forward when Eternals hits theaters.
As long as Whitman doesn’t turn to stone in the first act.

Which Arthurian film do you like the best?
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh you mean I have to pick ONE?
Hard, because I really like Arthurian movies in general. I find it hard to pick one as my fave.
Surprisingly, the 2004 Arthur movie does not rate highly to me because, despite it being technically “most historically close” (which it isn’t tbh but w/e) I’m not that thrilled by an Arthurian movie that is set in Rome, as I love the high medieval theme in Arthurian cycles.
As badly drawn out as it was, the most recent King Arthur: Legend of the Sword movie by Guy Ritchie was actually a lot of fun. Had a LOT of useless story-telling and a cast that was WAAAAY too big, but it was a good yarn. It was a 2 hour movie that had a good 45 minute story, if you get what I mean?
Excalibur holds a special place in my heart for telling all the major moments of Arthurian tales and condensing it all into one movie. I like the visuals and the drama, and while it tries to rush through things, it does a good job and portraying it all. This is probably my go-to for people wanting to get into Arthurian stories.
The Sword in the Stone by Disney also has a special place for me. I grew up as a child watching this, and Knight LOVED King Arthur as a child. Made my own cardboard and tin-foil armour and shields and stick-swords and everything. Adored King Arthur and his knights, and reading his stories, and having them read to me at night. This movie, aimed at children, based on The Once and Future King by White, is just an absolute delight and I hope to one day watch it with my own children.
First Knight. I’m probably biased here. I got sick of Lancelot after 20 minutes and stopped watching. Doesn’t help that the sword fights are utterly rediculous. ‘nuff said.
Quest for Camelot. Another animated, and one that sticks with me very well. Not strictly an Arthurian cycle movie, but in that setting. Definitely worth watching for the sake of a magical adventure set to the Arthurian backdrop.
Merlin (1998). Watch it. Just watch it, okay?
Sword of the Valiant. I hate the costume department for most of this, but Sean Connery does a great job and the Green Knight. Worth a watch.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I still giggle like a child and make references to this movie. Watch it. You owe it to yourself. It temporarily lifts my depression and waters my crops.
I think I also have to say that I actually hate how most movies with King Arthur are like: “What if...we take the Arthurian stories...and like, make them semi-historical/add stuff/change it entirely?”. Like, guys you don’t understand, I’m not watching this because of your creative input, I’m watching because I want to see Mallory on the big screen. Having Morgan le Fey hunt down the Knights of the round table with three dragons like evil Daenerys is a boring concept (*cough*Dragons of Camelot*cough*) and I can just watch Game of Thrones. If I wanted to watch a Celtic version of Arthur, I’d watch the 2004 version. If I wanted to watch a Roman Arthur, I could STILL watch the 2004 version, or just watch Gladiator. I literally don’t care about your take on it, m’kay?
Same with modern takes. I’m all for modern Arthurian cycles. But there’s so many POOR takes, like Avalon High. “Let’s put Arthur in an ALL AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL, and like, the Knights are all FOOTBALL PLAYERS! :D”How about fuck right off? c:Like, tbh, I’m pretty much dead to any American movie that dumps Arthurian legend in the god damn US. It may just be my personal loathing of the US here, but seriously, taking a British Isle myth and putting it in the US because you people can’t have any stories of your own is just fucking lazy. I want to rant about this in detail, but I am getting too furious just thinking about it, so moving on.
Modern takes that are GOOD include Avalon from 2001. You wouldn’t think this is an Arthurian movie beyond the name, as it’s a cyberpunk movie, but watching it makes it clear that it’s in fact pretty much a cyberpunk take on the legend, and the final scene has a lot of parallels to Arthur’s journey to Avalon. Not hard Arthurian, but worth a watch, it’s one of my fave cyberpunk movies.

Giambologna and the Tuscan Villa of Il Riposo
Tumblr media
According to an eighteenth-century genealogy of the Vecchietti family, the Flemish born artist, Jean Bologne (otherwise known as Giambologna) was housed and patronised by the cinquecento Tuscan senator and ducal advisor, Bernardo Vecchietti. It is thought that Vecchietti persuaded the artist to stay in Florence, rather than returning home to the Netherlands following a period of study in Rome.
Famous for his monumental public sculptures, Giambologna also completed commissions for private individuals, Bernardo Vecchietti included. At Vecchietti’s Tuscan villa, Il Riposo, the remnants of the Grotto della Fata Morgana still remain, although the marble sculpture of Morgan le Fey (a sorceress from Arthurian legend, detailed above) no longer graces the fountain there.
Il Riposo was also home to Bernardo Vecchietti’s collection of modelli (small, preparatory models, usually created for patronal approval prior to the execution of commissions of monumental scale).  Circumstance and chronology however, have since worked towards dispersing the original collection and the facts surrounding exactly how many of Giambologna’s works were present in Vecchietti’s sculpture room are sparse. Nevertheless, there are several extant works attributed to Giambologna, with records of provenance that strongly suggest that they once belonged in the collection at Il Riposo.
