alright big obnoxious nwos ideas factory has returned im so sorry. and just a disclaimer before i start this isn't something i expect to happen at all its just something i'd want to see
so i know ppl are mixed about whether or not they think lmj/lmda should be retconned in nwos, personally i don't think it should, mostly bc i see hilarious potential in steam bison being where luke and marina first meet. marina IS from america so its not impossible
cause like i LOVE the idea of marina and luke starting off as rivals, like maybe marina was steam bison's original puzzle solving golden child but now theres this horrible little bri'ish boy that's her age that is hogging her limelight and marina and luke become rivals immediately on who can solve more puzzles to invent more things for steam bison
and then when layton enters the picture marina is like "whats wrong triton are you so terrified of my studious whimsy that you had to ask your grampappy for help" which just fires luke up even more
and maybe make some team rocket shit with it where if you quit on a puzzle marina has a chance to steal it from you or some shit which will add an incentive to keep players from giving up too easily lest marina spawn in to roast you
and then eventually throughout the story marina and luke just kind of fall into working together because above their rivalry they realize their main goal has always been helping steam bison and even though they cannot stop bickering no matter what they bond over that common goal
and then idk maybe at the end of the game luke is like "blimey marina you sure were ace back there golly crikey i gotta say you really are knockout with puzzles" and marinas just like "your insufferable squirrely britishness is growing on me like a fungus. i guess there are worst things in this world than us working together"
and like then idk maybe layton sees himself and claire in them, but in like a good, non-traumatic way. and that gives him peace with her and allows him to leave steam bison feeling like luke has found his own way, which is all he wanted for him throughout the game
and that ending could like explain how luke and marina ended up solving mysteries together as stated in lmda, and is nwos does well you could have luke and marina as older teenagers in future entries and develop them from friends who work together to the cringefail unemployed malewife and longcon cult-infiltrating girlblogger they are in lmda
idk i just really want to see them do more with marina because as fucking boss as it was for her to pretend to be a cultist for over a decade just to save her loser husband in lmda, they never really showed the determination and bite in her personality that it would take to do that. i want them to take her out of the anime wife personality box they put her in during lmda and make something of her

Okay so season 1 was definitely Percy's story like between the flashbacks and his development over the quest The Lightning Thief is Percy's Story. The whole series is Percy's story but the way they produced the first season of the show is especially Percy's, and I need them to continue to develop this in the rest of the seasons.
Season 2, Sea of Monsters, should definitely be Annabeth's. Percy (and the readers) get to know her better--she opens up to him about her past, not just introducing him to the world they share (the Olympians) but to Her World and How it Got to Be that Way. We see more of how who Percy is impacts her (esp with Tyson), and she takes on a lot of responsibility for saving their quest. Unlike the Arch or Crusty, Annabeth is the one that saves them from Circe and takes on Polyphemus one on one.
Season 3 I think is Thalia's. It's the only chance we really have, as readers, to get to know her--we're thrown into her relationship with Percy at the beginning of the book, after our only introduction to her being her saying her name at the end of som, but we travel with her on this quest, and I think flashbacks, etc. in this season should be about her. It's the best way to let the audience get to know her, and I think we need to get to know her to understand her choice at the end (and to be excited when we see her again later). We need that her sudden disappearance at the end, when she leaves without saying goodbye and just as suddenly as she appeared she's gone, to hurt and to feel wrong and making her the Character is the way to do that imo.
Botl in season 4 I think is tricky at first glance (esp since we've given Annabeth som already) but tbh it needs to be Grover's. Flashbacks can be about his time in schools as a protector, and his time searching for Pan. Grover's development is kind of sudden in this story, but I think showing him when he's younger and like as he's been off Doing Things it would be more dramatic and honestly Grover is a fantastic character that Rick seems to forget about/ignore a lot and he should make it up by showing us what his life is like when he's not with Percy (which is increasingly often) and letting us see his independence develop to the point that he's ready to take on his new mantle and be a leader.
Season 5 is obviously Luke's. Even the book is written like that. We need flashbacks to his life and childhood just as much as Percy does, and they need to humanize him and let us empathize with who he was and how he got to who he is by the end of the story before he dies. I think they should give us flashbacks to his quest here, too, and probably the conversation he clearly has with Hermes before he goes on it (he's obviously bitter when he talks about it in tlt, and he had to get his magic shoes, and I think they need to utilize having that conversation in person so we can see how Hermes tries and fails to relate to him and also to make LMM make very very sad eyes as Luke leaves because he knows his son is at the end of his time as a hero). They can milk this for all the comparisons between Luke and Percy. I think flashbacks to his claiming, and not having to move cabins but probably like getting a bed or something now that he's here Forever, and when he becomes the Cabin Counselor. How/when he meets up with Thalia. Him seeking out fights as they make their way to camp. The battles he fights on his quest, facing monsters he's working with now, getting the scar.

It dosen't really matter that Percy isn't hurt by Annabeth insulting him all the time and sometimes even being physically violent to him(he should be because that's a realistic response from an abuse and bullying survivor but i digress),not just because he's a fictional character and not a real person with free will, but also because that's Annabeth's way of showing she fucking hates him.Her treatment of him has literally not changed since they were 12 yet nobody in this dumbass fandom can shut up about how ~developed~ their relathionship is cause they make out now and are planning on having a dysfunctional cishet marriage while trashing the characters of color for being 'annoying'.
Percy and Annabeth are not 'made for eachother' because Rick wrote everyone in-universe as telling them that and i'd like to remind y'all that this is the same guy who wrote Luke,an adult serial abuser and ped0phile,as a 'hero' because of the Great Prophecy.Destiny means jack shit and Annabeth and Percy-ESPECIALLY Percy, who's been doomed to trauma over and over again despite his best efforts to escape it-should've been allowed to choose who to love instead of having it shoved down their throats by both everyone in their franchise and the creepy weirdos in the fandom too

Hi! As someone with ADHD who's been in several abusive relationships before, I figured I'd add something about why it IS actually realistic that he doesn't appear hurt, but that's actually even more alarming. So it starts with meeting them (obviously) and especially if they don't really have any healthy romantic IRL relationships to compare it to (which the books go out of their way to emphasize that this is the case) then it can be really hard to notice when red flags like that start to come up. "Oh it'll get better!" "They're still adjusting to it!" All of which are valid! There's healthy relationships that start rough and there's relationships that start really well and then something happens that doesn't go super well and it turns bad real quick. I've been in a few of both. The problem comes when it still happens after they're asked to stop, which is what happens in Percy Jackson. This can lead to things like "Oh they're just kidding, surely they don't mean it!" "Oh that's just how they flirt/show they love me!" Which, again, is fine IF IT'S WELCOME. However if it's not then eventually it's "Oh they're just like that." "Oh it's fine I guess, it's not like I can stop it." Just because someone doesn't complain doesn't mean that they're consenting. It means they're resigned to the abuse. And that means that he's internalizing and normalizing it. "We don't hear any real negativity towards Annabeth in Percy's thoughts though!!!" Well no but we don't hear any love either. We don't ever hear any thoughts about her really ever. Nothing about how pretty she is or how cool she is or anything. Percy Jackson has thoughts about EVERYONE. As someone with ADHD, this level of no thoughts is concerning and no basis for a relationship. He deserves someone who will treat him well. She deserves someone who thinks about her fondly. Both of them deserve better but they both need to undergo some character development and serious therapy first.

I don't think them changing Annabeth's crush is a problem because familial love is an equivalent replacement. It was mainly just fuel for Percy's jealousy. It would be funny if Percy was just in his head the entire time that she has a crush on Luke and the whole time she's just "I love my brother so much!!!!"
I don't think the change is a problem, but I simply don't see the necessity for the change? They had familial love in the book as well alongside her crush, and her having a crush in the book was very sweet and humorous to me. What was problematic was Luke returning her crush in the end. I would happily enjoy them taking out his weird reciprocation that he had in his final hour.
Regardless, no its not the end of the world for her Annabeth's character if they take away her crush.. its definitely just a loss for me lol. Her freaking out every time Luke interacted with her was funny. Percy teasing her about it was funny. Percy's jealousy was funny. And since her crush was pretty prevalent in the first couple books and now that the show has decided to either write it out, or tone it down, or whatever, they are losing out on a lot of those funny moments.
One thing that does make a difference, however, is her crush on Luke in tlt is often part of the times where Percy sees her as something other than perfectly composed and calculating. And it would be one thing if the show still showed the other "silly" or "childish" (so to speak) parts of Annabeth even without her having a crush... but they haven't really, and its one of my more sincere criticisms that show Annabeth has come off as way more stoic than she is in the book by now (which is not on Leah at all). Yes Annabeth is wise and hyper competent, but she's also very emotional and gets flustered and is kid that does kid things! Like the scene with the her in the store with the candy in episode 3? I need to see way more of that sort of thing, especially if they're cutting out a lot of book instances that showcases her more childish side.

Rumors spread like wildfire. A common phrase that’s hiding the anxious feeling building up in your chest whenever you walk outside with a burden to carry. A lie so big that you can’t just deny it. Someone will always refer to it, bring it back from the death only to embarrass you.
People are lousy, nosy creatures. There should be little to no surprise at the fact that stuff like rumors exist. As a daughter of Ares and one of Clarisse’s close friends, Anya was used to people talking about her. Especially after Percy Jackson entered the camp. There was really no peace for her after that boy arrived. Clarisse felt the constant need to pick on him and Anya couldn’t blame her. he definitely was a hand full. Though, to her surprise, not everyone seemed to be fed up with him all the time.
“How can you possibly go on quests with him?” The red head asked Annabeth, leaning on the wall of the Athena cabin next to her.
“He can be nice, sometimes,” she answered, not knowing herself how she put up with him most of the time.
“I don’t believe you on that topic,” Anya told her, which surprised herself, since she mostly agreed with the wise girl.
In her head, it wasn’t an insult like Clarisse planned it to be. It was more of a compliment. Annabeth was wise. There was no doubt to that in anyone’s mind. She should know it as well.
Even when she tried to be on her sisters side completely, Annabeth was the exception. The sweet girl always got to calm her down. Anya didn’t know how she would survive camp without her.
“Anyway, I saw you watch Luke quite often these last days. What’s up with that?” Annabeth asked her, changing the topic but not to one in Anya’s favor.
The girl stopped breathing for a second. She knew that Annabeth would notice something sooner or later, but she hoped it would take her a bit longer to figure things out. Anya should’ve known that she was wrong. Annabeth was always one step ahead of her, she probably already knew about her feelings before Anya herself. She swore to herself that she wouldn’t fall for the stupid boy. She swore it after seeing all the other girls in camp practically drooling over him whenever he walked by. The sappy stories she heard from the Aphrodite cabin about love and it’s complicated sides was enough to scare her away from it. But something about him made it difficult to ignore him. How could she not watch his scar wrap itself in his skin, trailing her eyes along it like following a river? How could she not admire the way his body moved whenever he fought someone? He was better than her, better than anyone else in camp. How could she not admire him when he was almost perfect? She couldn’t stop the feelings from growing. Couldn’t stop the stupid butterflies that would swarm her stomach whenever he smiled in her direction.
It ruined her. Those stupid thoughts she had about Luke Castellan were only a method of life to get her to break. She would eventually fall under the knife of heartbreak and be admired by a former lover for the last time before sacrificing herself in order of not being hurt too much. ironic, isn’t it?
“There is nothing going on?” Anya tried to defend herself. If she couldn’t have him, why would she admit some stupid thoughts?
“You know, you should just tell him,” Annabeth told her. “There’s nothing to lose.”
“Yeah, nothing to lose, besides my reputation and potentially a friend,” Anya tried to make Annabeth drop the subject. She didn’t want to talk about it clearly, but Annabeth knew something she didn’t. She noticed his stares as well.
“You wouldn’t lose a friend. You’re not friends with Luke, are you?” Annabeth asked her.
“But we’re friendly,” Anya tried to explain herself. she maybe wasn’t yet friends with the golden Hermes boy, but she was sure she soon would be. Or at least she hoped so. Annabeth raised her eyebrows at her, knowing that it wasn’t the truth. The only thing they did was smile at each other. It was pathetic in her opinion. “What would I even say, if I would confess? Which I won’t. Just walk up to him and ask if we could be like girlfriend and boyfriend?”
“Yeah,” Annabeth shrugged like it was nothing. Just normal Wednesday evening events. Like eating dinner.
“What? So, then Luke is my boyfriend?” She asked her friend with a funny look on her face. She wanted to show that something like that wouldn’t work. Not even if she was drunk and completely out of her mind. “It’s not that easy, Annabeth.”
“Whatever.” the younger girl rolled her eyes at the red head. “If you won’t say a word about it, at least stop complaining that he doesn’t notice you.”
“I never complained,” Anya defended herself, but was quickly defeated when Annabeth looked at her seriously. “Whatever.”
The hour was early, too early for her. Anya stood by the side of some kids, helping them finish up their chores. The looks she received from them ever since last night weren’t going past her anymore. Some looked at her with their hand over their mouth, hiding their giggles as she walked past. Others - especially the younger girls - were watching her with sour, threatening eyes. She tried to ignore them at first, assuming that Clarisse did something stupid again. But when she asked her sister, she just looked at Anya confused and disappointed. It’s sad to know that her sister assumed the worst from her.
All of a sudden an arm wraps itself around her waist, pulling her close, further away from the kids. She wanted to push the person away, punching them in the face for being so close to her without her consent.
“Hello, girlfriend.” A voice stops her from moving for a second. This had to be a dream, right? This can’t be reality. At least not a reality she lives in.
“What are you doing, Luke?” she asks the boy behind her, still pushing him away from her a bit, which made him let her go. Her face was heating up, lending color to her pale skin.
“We don’t have to hide it anymore,” he tells her like it’s nothing. Unbothered by the looks the pair received, he continued talking. “I’m glad you finally admitted it to someone, even when I was sure Annabeth already knew.”
Anya looks at him with a confused face. Eyes scrunched together while she bit the inside of her cheek, trying to not start screaming in confusion. “What is going on?”
Luke laughs at her, grabbing her hand gently, leaving butterflies to swarm her stomach, leading Anya away from the group of kids she was supposed to watch. They disappear from the eyes, falling into a calm tempo, their hearts both racing.
“Rumor goes around that I’m your boyfriend, which means that you’re my girlfriend,” Luke explains the situation to her, still holding her hand while they stand side by side, looking at the other.
“Rumors? How? Why?” She wanted to ask more question, but Anya decided to stay silent for now when she saw in Luke’s eyes that he had an answer.
“An Aphrodite kid overheard you telling that to Annabeth,” he told her. Anya’s eyes widen, she did say that. But not in that sense. She had no idea that someone would overhear them. “Now my question is, why would you say something like that to Annabeth?”
Anya tried to come up with a reasoning, it shouldn’t be so hard to think of something. But something made it hard for her to decide. Something in her wanted to tell him.
“We were just joking around,” she finally said, looking down at her shoes in embarrassment, eyes lingering on their hands.
“Why not make this joke reality,” Luke says. He always sounded so sure when saying anything. Anya admired that about him.
She looks up at him, trying to find the mischief in his eyes that she was thinking would appear in a matter of seconds. But all she received was his thumb rubbing her hand. Their skin confirming the twisted lies between them. A lie that maybe wasn’t supposed to stay untrue.

If you’re still doing the ask meme, 2-3-12-18 for Luke and/or Leia?
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Luke - I think I love his sense of duty. Like, at the beginning of ANH he has all these goals and big dreams, but he stays because Beru and Owen need him and he knows that. It's a thread that carries all the way through to his confrontation with Vader, too, and it's just such a good character beat, I love it.
Leia - I really love how Leia is 110% heart only just barely covered by her temper. She's driven and passionate and she cares so much, to her very core. Given how much she feels about everything, I can imagine Bail didn't have much of a choice but to wind her up and let her go, even in the Imperial Senate. She's only a teenager when the OT starts, and she's still one of the main figures of the Rebellion. She's just amazing.
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
Luke - Hm. Maybe the fact that he's kind of mopey and a little whiny at the beginning of the movie? But also it's understandable, given that the people who raised him just died and he does get better once everything starts happening.
Leia - Kissing Luke to make Han jealous. It's not even that she and Luke are twins, since neither of them knows at that point, but I just tend to find that kind of...playing people's emotions against each other to be kind of aggravating.
12. What’s a headcanon you have for this character?
Luke - I like to think that a few years after the Emperor kicking it Quinlan shows up to finish training Luke, and Luke ends up getting as much of the history of the Jedi Order as Quinlan has access to (a lot, given that he knows where T'ra is) shoved into his head, so he can rebuild the Order the way Obi-Wan would have wanted to see it.
Leia - I love the headcanon that she ends up becoming known pretty widely in the Outer Rim as the Huttslayer, and it ends up making people trust her far more than most politicians, especially after the fall of the Empire. Every time she gets sent on a diplomatic mission somewhere important, the fact that she killed Jabba invariably gets spread around the planet just as much as her status as a hero of the Rebellion.
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
Luke - Ngl I adore Luke and Yoda's relationship. They're both gremlins and they're both so wholesome underneath it and I just think they work perfectly as mentor and student. Yoda deserved to get to train another swamp gremlin, and Luke deserved a mentor who would unleash his gremlin tendencies.
Leia - The only nice things the ST gave us besides Finn in the first movie is the relationship between Amilyn Holdo and Leia. But if we're not counting the ST and we shouldn't, the Bail-Leia relationship is just so beautiful and makes my heart feel three sizes too big. They have so much love for each other!! So much faith in each other!!!! How can you not be touched by that??

i don't think baela and rhaena really apply. they're going to be married to jace and luke so they'll still have everything they would otherwise.
(i'm using this ask as an excuse to rant about the showrunners making house velaryon black given what happens to them and also about how baela and rhaena's situation is still very unfair)
i think making house velaryon black is another decision the showrunners didn't think through properly. i think it was entirely for the diversity aspect, since they'd shot themselves in the foot by making all of the houses in game of thrones white and had very rightfully received criticism for doing so. the velaryons are one of the only houses that aren't depicted in game of thrones, so were one of the only options for doing this. i was even pretty happy at first, because the velaryons are a very powerful and ancient house, and the only house aside from the targaryens to ever wield dragons.
but i do think it casts some aspects of team black in a more unfortunate light. here's where baela and rhaena come in. let me make it clear, i understand that after her sons are born rhaenyra has no choice but to present them as legitimate out of very warranted fear for their safety. so i'm not saying that rhaenyra has malevolently done this, nor that after the boys' birth she had any real choice, but...
the optics of setting aside two black women's rightful inheritance in order to uplift white men is not exactly great. it's certainly not groundbreaking. especially when you consider that black characters have such little power overall- driftmark is really the only thing black nobles have to their name in westeros. and now they are being expected to pass it along to white men. the fact that future generations will be mixed doesn't make it much better- in fact i honestly think it's worse. the white targaryens aren't just colonizing one generation out of hundreds that rules driftmark; they're colonizing the entire subsequent velaryon bloodline. you know, the same house whose black members are vocally unhappy with this colonization- that is, until the colonizers kill them or cut out their tongues (hello, vaemond + silent five). i just think it makes the velaryons' anger at the whole situation seem a little more... legitimate? at least through modern eyes, it's not just that the boys are born out of wedlock (though obviously, hello misogyny and conservatism, that's a big part of it). it's also that the boys, by virtue of being out of wedlock, straight up do not possess any of the black heritage that makes house velaryon unique. (if they'd made harwin black as well, i think it could have solved this issue btw)
and i know that baela and rhaena are being married to jace and luke, but i need y'all to understand that this is not the same as them holding their power by their own right. every single bit of wealth, power, or property that these girls will ever have, save for their dragons, will not actually belong to them. it will all legally belong to their husbands. any decision-making power they have, anything they buy or do, will only ever be because their husbands are permitting them. their agency and their strength will be entirely contingent on the white men in their lives. jace and luke have inherent titles and power- they are princes by birth. baela and rhaena aren't princesses, or even ladies. the only political title they will ever hold will be as a consort- as an extension of the more powerful white man they are married to.
i very much don't think that jace and luke have any intention of curtailing these girls' power. but that doesn't change the fact that it won't truly be theirs. it's also unrealistic to expect that couples will go their entire lives without ever once disagreeing on something. the moment they do, the power imbalance will become clear. additionally, the show has set a precedent of those in power within the targaryen family in particular unintentionally harming others with ignorance of how their power allows them to steamroll over others' agency. viserys does not recognize the power he has over alicent due to his position, and she suffers for it. rhaenyra does not recognize the power she has over criston due to her position, and he suffers for it. a lack of intentional abuse does not preclude these boys from accidentally imposing their will on others.
a good real-world comparison for baela and rhaena's situation would be that of a stay-at-home mom who has staked her entire life on her husband's goodwill. she has no degree and no job. she has no money or property. her house and everything inside it belongs to her husband, not her. and even if her husband never leaves her, even if in some false universe with no conflict he never even disagrees with her, it does not change the fact that her livelihood is forever dependent on his permission. this is a power imbalance that must, by virtue of its significance, seep its way into their relationship. it's why relationships between a boss and employee are illegal in the united states- because it's understood that this power imbalance absolutely does have a compromising affect on the less powerful person's consent and agency.
anyways, like i said, i don't have good answers here for how this situation might be resolved, and i don't think that this move condemns rhaenyra as some intentional thief of black women's inheritance. she was choosing between baela and rhaena's agency and her children's lives, after all. but i know that making baela and rhaena black, and jace and luke white, makes the unfairness of baela and rhaena being sidelined as a result of powerful white people's actions sting even more. like yay, more black women whose entire life is dependent on a white man's goodwill and whose plot relevance is solely tied to their ability to benefit said white men's reputations. it's just not revolutionary in the way the showrunners seem to think it is. it's old, and it's tired, and i'm tired of it.
i really hope they'll do more with baela and rhaena's storylines and find some way to give them power in their own right, but i'm afraid it will never trump the agency that has already been taken from them and gifted to white men. and, given the way most of the girls' dialogue has been cut so far in favor of other characters... i'm not optimistic.

8, 19, 43, anddd 58 for the SOC asks ❤️
I don’t know how this got so long but be prepared for very waffle-y answers (hehe)
8. What crow do you think you are the most like?
Ahhh, I have never felt so decisive in my life as I do about this question. I think I took one look at Wylan Van Eck and immediately started projecting. (That usually happens with most awkward/anxious/nerdy/artist characters, but especially Wylan.
First things that come to mind: he’s both worryingly chill about some things and simultaneously an anxious mess, he can be sassy but also very reserved most of the time… Thinking about it now I really relate to how contradictory a lot of his traits/thoughts/actions can be.
Also low key the way he went his whole life with no name or explanations for his disabilities and grew up without anyone to tell him that it wasn’t because he wasn’t trying hard enough hits maybe a lil too close to home 😅😅😅
19. Who was the most compelling antagonistic character to you?
Hmm 🤔… this is hard because Leigh’s antagonists are all really interesting!
That being said, there’s SOOOO much about Dunyasha that gets me! Especially about her being Inej’s “shadow”. Since Inej is the Wraith and a lot of her skills already lie in being unseen/quiet/blending into the shadows…then what does her shadow look like? Like if the the question is what is the shadow of a shadow, then the answer we get is apparently this crazy, blond, self-righteous mercenary dressed in all shining white clothing calling herself the white blade and talking about being on a mission from god basically. All the ways she’s written to be Inej’s opposite are just… *screams incoherently*
Just… ahhh. It’s the symmetry, ya know?
(I’m forgetting details but I think also her background is super interesting. Very cult-y and ominous. 100/10. I don’t know if they ever get brought up again but I’d love for whatever group she came from to get used in a later plot as a Big Bad)
43. Do you have a favorite minor/background character?
I haven’t read the books where David and Genya feature as more prominent characters, but I love them. They’re…so in love? In the sweetest and most heartbreaking way?
Outside of the Crows they’re definitely my favourite ship and I’m still so sad we’ll never get to see David meet Wylan and Jesper because they would have SO much to talk about! I need Wylan and David nerding out about chemistry and blueprints and talking to Jesper about Durast stuff.
Side note: I love the way Luke plays David and all the mannerisms and quirks he used (him waving at Alina while handcuffed in a plank of wood makes me giggle every time) and I don’t know what it is but “Keiragan cut off Baghra’s finger!!!” — “We need to leave!!!” Makes me laugh so hard. Maybe because their freak out is the most realistic reaction to the Darkling lmao. No messing around just “this guy is crazy! I think we should run away! Yes?!”
58. Share your thoughts on (insert character/ship/plot point/etc)
Oh do I pick? Oh god, my ultimate nemesis: making decisions…
So, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I’ll probably always gravitate more towards the show characters, but that the books do a great job of showing us the different cultures and nuances of the Barrel and (while I hope they’d get more into that in the crows spinoff 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻) I think it’s one of the things that I miss the most watching the show vs reading. The Komedie Brute, the crow and cup tattoo, the Barrel flash vs Mercher clothing, the Dregs, Ghezen and trade being sacred in Kerch… there’s just a lot of symbolism there that I wish we could have seen. The canals also aren’t mentioned at all? And maybe that’s me being nit-picky but they seem like a really big part of Ketterdam in the books and I think it would have been cool to see how it impacts traveling in the city and how they plan around it.
Thanks for the questions! 💖

"Grey Ghost was pale grey-white, the color of morning mist."
It seems as though Lucerys cannot escape his inheritence even though he is supposed to be a bastard. So it's just fitting in my opinion, he may not have inherited the looks of a common Targaryen or Velaryon, but he definitely inherited the true spirit of the both. A silver dragon that flies around the sea to catch fish symbolizes the both houses.
I've always loved the wild dragons introduced, because they aren't chained in a pit like the other dragons are, so they can get even bigger and stronger, or just happier. There was a line in one of the books about the dragons getting smaller and weaker since they stayed in one place for too long and didnt hunt for themselves at all (Syrax) (I don't blame Rhaenyra btw I think she made the right choice to just let Syrax pop out eggs since dragons r definitelly needed for the long night) (in the books at least) domesticated basically.
I definitely believe Luke would find another way to keep riding Grey Ghost without injuring neither of them. Because when you look at the dragons in HOTD, there's stouts planted into the dragon's scales to keep the saddle on. I guess I just like the idea of him working on a saddle module day and night like Hiccup did in HTTYD, that would be benefitial for both the rider and the mount. I also like the idea of Grey Ghost roaming free in Driftmark or wherever Luke takes him, because the dragon is shy enough to not approach humans, or even animals. (save fish) So he isn't excatly a danger, and can be not in chains.
Tumblr media
I also wanted to add my little headcanon for this AU or any other haha. Since Rhaenys had black and white hair in the book (mainly black) in my imagination Laenor inherited the black hair part from Rhaenys (meanwhile Laena inherited the beautiful silver locks, as did her daughters by Daemon)
Now, Lucerys' hair color is still brown, not black like his father and grandmother. But you can argue that he got the hair from Laenor, it is not so obvious that he is a bastard. But the greens do not leave the Velaryon boys (or in this case boy since jace and joff dead) alone, regardless of how obvious or not obvious it is.
I just don't like how the show portrayed the bastard allegations when there was so much potential. (I guess you can blame it on the limited episodes they had, in a way, but it was their decision how many plotlines they would cover.) Especially how they did Rhaenys so dirty. She was a Rhaenyra supporter from the start and loved the boys like they were her own, and she had black hair.
Onto something else, I also headcanon Lucerys having deep purple eyes, it is not so apparent when you first look at them, they can even pass as black sometimes but when the light hits them or if you look close enough they are definitely a shade of purple.
Also, sorry if my brainrot is too much haha. Just the amount of potential this AU has is making me insane
Grey Ghost really is the best choice for a Lucerys that fully embraces his Velaryon side! You're right about the wild dragons as well, and how well it Grey Ghost suits Lucerys - the dragon that loves the sea and eats fish? 10/10 a perfect meld of both his Houses, and you can guarantee that Corlys would make that observation whenever he had the chance.
And yes to Lucerys using a different saddle type for Grey Ghost. Our boy would respect that his new dragon is still wild, and since he's so reclusive and avoids humans, there's really very little danger to him even if he does come across people. Grey Ghost is more likely to just peace out then attack - so long as he and Lucerys aren't threatened. So he and his rider are perfectly happy to just let him roam and snack on fish when he's not needed.
You don't need to apologise for the headcanons! It's always fascinating to hear how so many people can twist the characters and still make it believable! It shows a lot of passion people have for the story and the characters! That's why fanfiction is such a wonderful and unlimited creative space!
(Also sorry it took so long to get to your message - I got distracted with getting ruination out!)

I've just been forced to face the fact that Legends fans are a minority and it's really depressing, so now I'm going to think about my ridiculously self-indulgent Rogue Squadron Vestara AU.
The more think about it, the more I question how in-character it actually is for her to choose to do this. If the idea is to choose her own path, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for her to choose a path that still puts her in a specific defined command structure where she doesn't actually have much freedom. Then again, Rogue Squadron historically isn't known for being particularly disciplined.
I guess if all she's trying to do is find herself. In canon we don't get to see her piloting much, but as far as I remember she enjoys the first flight she takes in Ship. I don't think it's too much of a stretch for her to want to exercise her piloting skill more, especially since the Lost Tribe don't really seem to use any fighters, and the helms of those shitty old Corporate Sector frigates would more likely be reserved for at least Sabers.
She enjoys flying, it's not a skill she's had much of a chance to use - at least not in regular ships - and she's trying to explore herself in new ways and stuff. I think it makes enough sense.
In terms of strict command structures, I think it would make a lot of difference for her that in a regular military, everyone isn't constantly plotting to stab each other in the back.
And, like, at this point Syal's more familiar with treason and knowing when you need to defy the command structure than Wedge was at her age. All that LotF angst has to have been good for something, and I've already talked about some of my headcanons for what happened to her after she ended up among the Jedi in Fury.
I'm operating under the vague assumption that this story is supposed to be continuitous (if that's even a word) to Guiding Star, which is the theoretical story that details the events that Syal and Wedge and Tycho and Gavin went through while Revelation but mostly Invincible happened. An important part of her character in LotF is that by Fury, she's come to question her own judgement as much as she questions her superiors, and I haven't planned it very much, but I assume part of her arc in Guiding Star involves her resolving that, and that she now believes she has enough experience to determine for herself whether the current government is or isn't worth spending lives for.
(Side note: 44 ABY is the year Syal turns 27, which makes her probably the same age here as Wedge is in the first X-Wing book, and I love that symmetry, trivial though it is.)
I've been thinking of it as Vestara actually joining the Rogues three or four months after FotJ (on a ten-month in-universe calendar), so by now Ves has had plenty of time to gain experience with X-Wings, and learn from most of the best pilots alive. Also, at this point, Syal's had enough time to consider Wynn Dorvan's decisions as the next Chief of State and decide the GA under him is worth spending lives for. He is a genuinely good guy, FotJ just puts him in bad situations constantly.
According to at least Luke, Daala was doing a fine job until FotJ. Syal wouldn't have agreed with Daala's actions during FotJ, but in the timeskip, at least, I think Syal would have probably continued to lead the version of the Rogues that she inherited at the end of the Second Galactic Civil War.
(Second side note: I'd like some kind of story that actually demonstrates Daala having done a good job as Chief of State.)
The other pilots on Rogue Squadron at this point are a point of much questioning.
I'm going with the idea that there was another reorganization of the squadron after the end of FotJ, to update the roster. At least half the point of Rogue Squadron is political symbolism and representation and stuff, and there are some educated guesses to be made from that.
In addition to Syal herself, a convenient addition is Zueb Zan, the Sullustan who was her gunner when she flew Alephs. That's a relationship Syal already has, and what little there is to see of him in canon makes me like him enough.
The other canon character I can think of to add here is Drathan Forge, Inyri's great-nephew who shows up briefly at the end of Outcast, when they have to blow up the ancient artifacts beneath the mines of Kessel before said artifacts blow up the planet. In that scene, Drathan claims to be a skilled pilot, and says he has provisional Academy acceptance, and that he'd have to keep his grades up for another year. So the end of FotJ is about when he'd be getting in. If this is a few months after that, I'd find it acceptable for him to get into the Rogues on the basis of skill and family history. Hells, Inyri didn't have any formal training.
Anyway, the implicitly successful diplomatic reintegration of at least the major players of the Confederation during FotJ leads to the roster including a token Bothan and also a token Commenorian. The whole Treaty of Vontor issue results in a token Klatooinian or something. Syal herself is Corellian, obviously.
Drathan, I expect, is a representative of the various corporate enterprises currently operated by Lando. I think in Outcast, Lando has a line about how he's selling to the private sector since the SGCW (maybe before that), and if I recall correctly that implies that he's potentially enabling stuff like YVH droids to end up in the hands of enemies of the Alliance.
I'd buy the Alliance having someone who's from Kessel, another one of Lando's operations, in Rogue Squadron as an attempt to convince Tendrando Arms to be more loyal to them.
Anyway, Vestara's role in this is as both a token Jedi and a token ex-Sith. She's not ready to commit to the Jedi path yet, but if she doesn't fully leave the Order and instead is still being trained by Luke on the side, they might play her up as proof that despite the Jedi Order leaving the Alliance's authority and stuff, they haven't abandoned the Alliance completely. That would be especially important in the aftermath of the end of FotJ, and how I've decided the official line of the GA is that Abeloth was an instrument of the Sith. Especially, but not necessarily, if I decide to work this plotline into Voices of the Force, where her influence stretched far beyond Coruscant.
Also, the fact that Vestara used to be a Sith is useful too. Between Abeloth and Caedus, hate for the Sith is probably the highest it's been since... I don't even know. The highest it's been in millennia, maybe. Even Palpatine, as I recall, wasn't nearly as public about it in his life as Caedus was at the end.
If they can show people a former Sith who's been redeemed, the Jedi might prevent public opinion from going so far as to approve, for example, Kesh being glassed and its mostly innocent population killed. The Alliance doesn't know where it is, so that's not an immediate concern, but it is a concern nonetheless.
That's still only seven out of twelve.
I think Vestara's new girlfriend is someone in a position of a friend to the Rogues, but not actually in their command structure, because that way it won't get weird if one of them gets promoted.
Another headcanon I have is that the age of majority in the Galactic Alliance is 14, a relic of the strategic realities of the late stages of the Vong War, so theoretically there's no rule preventing people Vestara's age from having a position here.

Do u have fic recommendations?
I'm gonna assume this is for Daemon/Rhaenyra since that has been all I've talked about for months haha. And definitely have plenty of recs! In general I love reading really long fic (like, in really popular pairings I will set my parameters to see 50k+ or 100k+ fics only...), so due to the relative newness of this ship's popularity, most of my recs are incomplete. I also have way more that I am subscribed to that absolutely could be faves eventually, but that are just a little too early in the story to guarantee.
Canon/Canon!AU
To Ashes (Series) by Emerald_Aphelion (~30k, series incomplete but has 3 complete works so far) -- AU from Daemon's return from the Stepstones, basically where Daemon and Rhaenyra are just a little more thoughtful and forward-thinking within their relationship and with the political situation they're in. Established Relationship Vibes but also slow burn romance at the same time, they make each other smarter and better by working together, Rhaenyra bonds with baby!Aegon AND Rhea, Daemon picks Rhaenyra up and puts her on a table and calls her his queen at one point (hot), and this is the ideal Dance fix-it.
my eyes are aching to see you--126AC by SeveDeChampagne (~2.5k, complete) -- set between Episode 7 and 8, a very spicy First Time Post-Birth one-shot that contains multiple sentences that are some of the most intensely romantic things I've ever read. Considering my love of long fics, it takes a special kind of short fic for me to be so moved and attached.
How to Win Thrones and Ensnare Dragons by Writer_in_the__Dark (~15k, incomplete) -- Time Travel AU (my kink) where Rhaenyra is reborn into her baby-self. Only a few chapters in but I am HOOKED by the writing style and characterization of The Early Years dynamic, and am so looking forward to seeing how this evolves as time moves forward -- but based on the writing so far, I know it will be wonderful.
put down that gravestone by darkgods (~35k, incomplete) -- Post-Episode 4 AU, where Daemon went back to the Vale and Rhea didn't die, and then Rhaenyra gave birth to very Daemon-looking twins (wonder how that happened!), and then 10 years later Rhea has dead and Viserys invites Daemon back to be Hand. This story is so well-written and rich with character detail, I honestly just want to re-read it over and over! It has so beautifully dove into Rhaenyra's psyche, Daemon's personality (from his own perspective and from others), built a very sad and realistic portrait of Jace and Luke's lives as outcasts in court, set up some deliciously hurtful and complicated strings to unravel between Daemon and Rhaenyra due to this inciting situation, and has already indulged my pathological need for some Outside POV content by adding in Luke's (very well-written) perspective on a dinner scene. The fact that the chapter count is currently at 4/36 and we already have 35k words has me so hyped, you guys don't understand how badly I need piles and piles of giant fics.
Significance by AmazingAngie (~21k, incomplete) -- AmazingAngie is amazing because of how quickly she writes such amazing material! This is a Soulmate!AU, and this one in particular is just so insanely lovely so far! I'm a sucker for a "meant to be" setup so I will always love those from the get go, but I especially love the nuance in this story, and the ways that knowing that they are the endgame changes the trajectory of all of these characters lives.
you came/you called by scarlettscribbles (~10k, incomplete) -- basically an Episode 10 AU, kind of, but beyond that I just suggest reading it and going with the flow, because once I was like 80% into this first chapter I finally realized what was happening and it was so exciting. Needless to say I am pumped for the rest of the story.
Modern!AU
No joke I have literally NEVER liked Modern!AU's before, except for with 'Merlin' (because even if it wasn't explicitly stated, I could pretend that it was Reincarnation). It has just never appealed to me, until now with Daemon and Rhaenyra -- because they are just that powerful. Also none of my Modern!AU faves are any of that "Oh, actually, Daemon is adopted, or they're third cousins twice removed, or Daemon is only a ~symbolic uncle", like, we all know what we're doing here 😂
Lets Ignite Under the Ember Skies by grandlovescheme (26k, complete) -- So freaking good! The uncertainty, the jealousy, the tension, the ~vibes, the ~sexy ~vibes, it is a tightly-written and very well-characterized modern version of these characters and I love it.
Petrichor by sweetestsorrows (katschako) (~23k, incomplete) -- one of the chapters made me cry for real. Very intense "we are way too close to be appropriate, and it is causing angst, but i wanna be closer..." vibes, and I am so here for it. It really is wonderfully translating their bond to a modern lens, and all the problems and tensions that would come along with that dynamic. It made me go "omg that is so intensely romantic", it made me literally cry, it made me go "ooh ~spicy", its got it all.
the beauty queen in tears by writingwhatidream (~30k, incomplete) -- AHHH I am obsessed with this story (almost as obsessed as Crispin is with Rhaenyra in it...). To try and sum it up, it is a Modern!AU A/B/O Royal Family fic...but that all sounds so much more reductive than it actually reads. For me, it is: delicious Daemon/Rhaenyra "Us Against the World" vibes, where even if they're not physically together they are 100% together, with a healthy (or rather unhealthy, in-context) dose of creepy Outsider POV, and the promise of Alpha/Omega-induced drama, love, possessiveness, and danger to come. It is juicy and beautifully written, and is giving me so many things I want all in one place.

To add to the children's discourse lol.
I've seen people say that the twins are Aemond's but Maelor is Aegon's and that is why she would choose to get killed because Helaena hates Aegon that much. and I hate that, it doesn't matter who the father is, the kids are Helaena's and she will always try to protect them.
I personally would prefer the kids to be Aegon's (not because I'm a helaegon first, then a helaemond lol) because I think the children being his adds a depth that he's seriously lacking in the show. going insane for the kids he ignored most of their lives, it will be really good to watch and explore. I also don't think Aemond needs to be the father for the "son for a son" to make sense, because in my interpretation, the person wanting to become the monarch (Rhaenyra) lost a son, so the King has to lose one as well. In this angle, it doesn't actually matter who killed Luke, Aegon would have to lose a son anyway.
I also think that Aemond has too much spotlight to steal Aegon's arc as well...because if Aegon knows the kids are his, why would he go on full revenge and hate if he never cared for Helaena anyway? They also didn't show Aegon and Aemond having a good relationship for Aegon to care that much about Aemond's kids.
If he doesn't know, his whole arc will be hollow, because he's the dumb one that thinks the kids are his but surprise...your sister-wife and your brother actually went behind your back and had kids and had this whole full-on romance behind your back.
Don't get me wrong, the kids could be Aemond's especially with them being so young in the show (why, just why?) but that doesn't mean that I have to like it. lol
Rant over lol, would love to hear your thoughts. :)
Hello there! So, I would start by saying that no one is denying helaemond isn't a show-introduced thing. There are no hints at that in the book - again, this doesn't preclude or deny or contradict its existence EITHER, just that we have no reason to believe off the text that the children aren't Aegon's. Ergo, Blood & Cheese was most likely specifically designed with that in mind.
So, from that vantage point, I really don't think paternity has any play in this Sophie's choice, especially since it's Helaena making that specific choice and the children are all hers anyway. There's also a desperate (and understandable) logic that informs her motivation - Maelor is deemed young enough to not understand what is happening to him and that could serve as a small mercy in this context, basically the best out of a horrible situation. That's a lot more reasonable for a mother rather than prioritizing her children based on sperm donor.
As an aside, making helaegon a failed marriage and giving Aegon his downright sociopathic hobbies serves to hinder the plot, rather than further it - this has nothing to do with helaemond, it's just the writers not thinking their decisions through. Like, as things stand, I'm supposed to believe that 1. Aegon doesn't care for Helaena anyway 2. he thinks it's funny watching his own bastard children fight to the death in the rat pits, all the while they plan on selling me the fact that 3. Aegon is somehow gonna be devastated when his legitimate son is killed, a son he never interacted with and never showed any feeling towards, because he is too self-absorbed in his own pursuit of pleasure.
Why does that make more sense? It's all a mess anyway, no matter which way you cut it. Obviously, Aegon cared for his children and family in the books, so they're gonna have do some damage control here, otherwise Blood & Cheese is going to logically have absolutely no effect on him, which defeats the point of this entire exercise (also an observation for those against humanizing Aegon).
The children being his and him caring about them is indeed a very easy and immediate way to humanize his character AND not diminish the horrifying aspect of Blood & Cheese. But so is them not being his? Him being able to care for them as if they were of his own body is also a pretty touching element, if you think about it. Show!version will have to be retconned anyway, whichever option you pick.
B&C was specifically designed by Daemon because it fundamentally stabs at the core of the greens - all siblings are affected by the harm visited on these children. Helaena goes mad with grief, Aegon enacts his bloodthirsty revenge on the city's rat catchers, Aemond starts spiraling - even Daeron sacks an entire city in a rage when Maelor is killed. It's not so outrageous or far-fetched for me to believe that these children could have been very loved no matter who fathered them, by their mother, father and both uncles, in whichever permutations.
That's certainly Daemon's reasoning, but it doesn't mean that he is being even steven about this. Retributive justice in no way involves taking the life of another innocent person who had absolutely nothing to do with the crime in the first place. Even if Aemond had legitimate sons of his own within a lawful marriage, killing his son for Luke would not amount to retributive justice. Daemon utilises false equivalences here and I need people to stop drinking his kool aid. It is not Rhaenyra and Aemond who are peers here, it is Aemond and Luke.
Aegon had nothing to do with this crime, he did not order it or target Luke specifically and involving him in it simply inflicts harm upon innocent parties; targeting Jaehaerys is also disproportionate to the offense committed - as another user mentioned recently on one of my posts, Jaehaerys is a little boy playing with toys, while Luke is actively contributing to his mother's war effort. These two are not peers or counterparts either.
The harming of innocents and proportionality to the crime are two principles of retributive justice that Daemon actively breaks in the pursuit of his sadistic revenge.

If there is ever any doubt, one can always pick up a copy of the Old Testament.
Exodus 21:12-14. He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
Lo and behold, the punishment for murder is the death of the murderer. Nothing whatsoever about killing the murderer's nephew or the murderer's son.

The Mandalorian S3 . . . Stinks
I admit as a fan of the show I am disappointed about where it went. The first season was largely excellent, and the second season wasn't bad, but the third season to put it lightly, was a mess.
I'm usually willing to forgive a few bad or so-so episodes. The best season of the Mandalorian had a few bad episodes in middle that felt like filler, but the character had a cohesive arc and good character development, seeing him change from attacking a compound to obtain the child to defending the child in a shootout with Imperials.
The third season had plenty of bad episodes, but the problem was it felt disjointed. "The Foundling" felt pointless and didn't make much sense. "Guns for Hire" left me more disappointed, because it actually had some good ideas. Frank Lloyd's character left me wanting more, and the episode could have focused more on him. A veteran of the Confederacy of Independent Systems who still pines for the Lost Cause, feeling vindicated by the rise of the Empire and saw Dooku as a grand, romantic figure cut down by the future villainous figure of Darth Vader, there's so much they could have done with that. Especially, since Din is himself a victim of the Confederacy with the war droids Helgait prided himself on having massacred his village. They were also both victims of the Empire and pining for a world that was lost to them as a way of forming a connection.
The other issue in the episode was the celebrity cameos of Lizzo and Jack Black. I'm not opposed to cameos given we had Bill Burr in seasons 1 and 2, but the major difference is how his character was handled. Burr's character Mayfield had a role to play in the story, helping Din infiltrate a Imperial base and his character actually had depth and a character arc. They did things with his character while Lizzo and Black were purely celebrity cameos with no real contributions to the story and in a blatant manner meant draw attention to the actors rather than the characters they were playing.
Then, there is Bo-Katan. I'm sorry, but as a character she is just so boring. She is made the leader of the Mandalorians in the end in a way that feels shoehorned. She had no character arc or development. Nor did it feel like she actually earned the Darksaber and the title of Mandalore. It was all handed to her on a silver platter.
The biggest issue was with the titular character's arc. Din reuniting with Grogu after the tearful goodbye at the end of season 2 feels like a betrayal. It feels even more so when in Book of Boba Fett he goes to visit Grogu while he's training with Luke only to be told Grogu can't form attachments, and thinking that seeing Grogu at a distance will be the last glimpse he will ever get of him, he accepts the hard truth that it really is goodbye forever. The story would have been much more meaningful and powerful if that was the case.
It would have been akin to the ending of Wolf Children where after the fox dies, Ame decides that the mountain needs a new guardian and leaves with his mother tearfully telling not to go. However, when she sees him on top of the mountain, it's then that she realizes it's where he belongs.
It's Studio Ghibli's message on childhood vs Disney's. Disney's is "you can be a kid forever" while Studio Ghibli's is "childhood is fun, but it doesn't last forever." Din and Grogu go their separate ways as they both take on responsibilities needed for the good of their people with Din becoming the Mandalore to lead his people and Grogu becoming a Jedi to revive the Jedi Order and for the good of the galaxy.
The plotline of Din's difficulty in handling the Darksaber is just tossed into the bin. They could have tied his difficulty with wielding it to his reluctance to be Mandalore. At the same time, he misses Grogue and having gotten the Darksaber the last time they saw each other, it could have served as a reminder of him. He was an orphan who was rescued and taken in by Mandalorians, who in turn took in and rescued an orphaned child, and realizing he found purpose looking after Grogu, he decides to be a father to an orphaned people, the Mandalorians.
Or you could just say "fuck it" and give it to Bo. And have Grogu come back, undoing all the character development and narrative arc just because he was eye candy for viewers for gimmickification like Black and Lizzo.
I'm sorry for how much of a letdown season 3 was.

Julie as an exorcist for hire and Luke as her ghost partner au (Bring it On Ghost 😌)
and/or
JATP characters meet working a a pet store au (let’s pretend it’s a super ethical one where all the pets are rescues ok lol)
HOOO BOY OK ok ok ok OK
edit: uh. yeah. good luck reading this it’s so long but then so rushed idk man enjoy……….
edit 2: wait shit i just reread your ask and u specifically said julie exorcist and luke ghost…..I APOLOGISE. STILL WORKS………….
get it on ghost au:
so luke’s always been plagued with the gift of seeing ghosts - he hates it, it’s mostly annoying when they show up unannounced declaring that he has to help them — and worst of all, it’s exhausting having to get rid of the creepy ones in ways other than just guiding them spiritually (ie beating the crap out of them)
it took up too much of his time and he just wanted to focus on his music man
he figures out at one point tho that he can make a business out of it — make some money by advertising his skills (without his parents knowing cause well. they wouldn’t necessarily agree to it) and getting people to pay him to ‘exorcise’ ie beat the crap out of ghosts that refuse to move on and just insist on haunting the living
(alex and reggie know about this of course. esp when they suddenly have nicer practice rooms to chill in. alex isn’t thrilled he’s actually terrified, but reggie just wants to join in on all the client calls luke gets)
AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING: so one day luke gets a text from a potential client asking him to head over to the abandoned los feliz high school building (that particular building was shut down a couple years ago because of a tragedy and hasn’t really been dealt with yet)
BUT BASICALLY the text asks him to check out the building cause there’s this one notorious ghost that keeps scaring all the high school students in the buildings nearby and they just need it to be dealt with (he’s seen those high school kids running past it like their lives depended on it
luke’s happy to oblige, especially when he finds out how much the client is willing to pay, and heads over — only to get the surprise of a lifetime. he meets a ghost who 1. turns out to be the one who texted him (so he’s not getting paid and that’s not great news) and 2. is a cute girl who looks very much human and not like any of the other ghosts he’s met before
he’s taken aback, especially when she kicks his ass (and helps him kick the resident ghost’s ass)
it’s a whole cat and mouse thing for a while, she keeps following him whenever he’s alone and he keeps telling her to leave him alone (mostly cause she’s hella cute and he seriously can’t afford to catch feelings for a dead girl yknow). he tells her she needs to pay him or move on and she keeps insisting that she just wants to figure out who she is!! how she died!! who her family is!! so that she can move on!!!
so they strike up a deal: he helps her (her name’s julie, by the way) figure out who she is, the mystery revolving her death and why she can’t remember anything, and she, in turn, helps him on the job (she’s got a wicked left kick), slowly paying him back with her skills since she never paid him for that one job (the abandoned high school building, remember that?)
so she tags along wherever he goes (at first to his dismay), even joining in on band practice (the boys know of her existence and try to be as considerate as possible considering they can’t see her)
things start to change between the two the second luke hears julie sing, fingers slipping on metal strings when she follows the melody perfectly and holy shit he’s a goner (the boys are confused af they’ve never seen luke lose focus when it comes to band practice)
THEY SPEND THE NIGHT TALKING AND HE FINDS OUT SHE DIDNT EVEN KNOW SHE COULD SONG- he tries to get her to play various instruments to see maybe she was into that and turns out she can play piano!! and oh?? SHE CAN ALSO WRITE SONGS??? match made in heaven soulmates luke’s fucked and fully in love with a ghost etc etc
ah fuck this is getting long i’m so sorry but let me continue:
so this is where we meet our antagonist: the music teacher at los feliz, the one luke’s seen loitering around the high school (alex goes to that school and whenever luke stopped by for lunch he’d see the somewhat creepy teacher)
and he gets a bad feeling from him every single time
TO MAKE THIS SHORT LMAO: turns out julie’s accident had soemthing to do with the teacher, caleb covington, and turns out she was a student at that school!! 10 years ago!!
ALSO: SHES BOT ACTUALLY DEAD? SHES IN A COMA????? what a plot twist. it’s why she looks so normal so human. it’s why she’s never felt like any other ghost.
anyway stuff happens luke figures out caleb is some weird powerful ghost demon who sucks the life out of students for their talents and that’s what happened to julie except he never managed to finish the job.
luke finds a way to bring her back to life and together they fight caleb and it’s A HAPPY ENDING OH JESUS
do you still want the pet store au??? lmao
julie starts working at a pet store, she meets reggie first, and he takes her round the store introducing her to all the animals and staff members and when they reach the puppies section they find a guy their age on the floor on his back being attacked by several puppies (licking his face) and it’s the cutest thing julie’s seen in a while
that is until reggie shouts “luke! new person coming through” and the boy on the floor sits up and julie sees his face and decides actually. that’s the cutest thing she’s seen in a while
anyway.
coworkers romance and all that jazz 😌
she finds out he sings to the scared puppies and agitated animals at the store, and it melts her heart. he hears her sing along to one of his songs one day, matching the harmony perfectly, and he melts.
they fall in love and live happily ever after the end
AAAAAAH

I really liked Great King of Terror arc, it was really cool :D
I remembered liking this arc a lot on my first viewing too and yeah I honestly like it even more now. The lighter "filler" episodes have so much of the charm that the previous arc was missing, with Yuhi vs Asaka and Asaka vs Ranran especially being really enjoyable to me. They are honestly just as enjoyable to me as the heavier or more plot-focused episodes of this arc.
They also just... really upped the stakes this arc. This arc proved Bridge is willing to temporarily kill characters the way Gallop used to and... gosh they may just be temporary deaths (and obviously so) but they still go hard. I've talked about Nyandestar vs Manabu and all the drama that caused in other places but man I cannot overstate it. It's such a gut punch of a betrayal and a heartbreaking duel. It's the first moment in Bridge Yugioh to make me cry for a reason and got me misty-eyed even on this viewing.
And while this didn't make me cry, Yuna's reaction to Rovian being frozen is genuinely sad and the way she pushes herself so hard to do everything to get her back is... really great and needed character development for her. I honestly already really like her, for more reasons than I stated in my long post about her in season 2. She was great even before season 2, it seems I just had to rewatch this arc to see that.
The arc has problems I'll admit. The build up to the Great King of Terror himself is a little rushed and the character himself is... well, I enjoy him a lot but yes I do recognise that he is... just Luke again. That's Luke's face and personality plastered onto an evil Elsa who likes manga. But... dammit, he's just funny to me. I can't bring myself to dislike him. He would be better if he didn't straight up have Luke's face though, yes, I will acknowledge that. And... um...
I think those are my only major problems with this arc.
Yeah, honestly, on rewatch, I just found Yudias and Yuga teaming up to defeat the two Luges to be hype as all hell. I mean, come on, it's two protagonists duelling side by side! We haven't seen that since Bonds Beyond Time and that was a movie! That's awesome! Yuga being as involved as he is in Go Rush is still weird to me but I can forgive his inclusion here because the last blow of the duel is dealt by Yudias. They're still duelling together, Yuga's contribution is certainly important, but it's Yudias's duel.
Also, their fusion was cool. I am weak to fusion, I love it so much. This arc is inherently better than the first two to me for reintroducing my beloved fusion and using it so dramatically. I still remember first watching Nyandestar vs Manabu at the library with earbuds in and having to hold back physical squeals when she used fusion. I am unhinged about fusion for some reason and I don't know why.
Anyways, banger arc, might honestly be my favourite in the show. I dunno, I've still got the next arc to rewatch.

hey there, autistic person here !!
i have a few thoughts™ about autistic helaena and aemond so i thought i'd share :)) also, i apologize for the long ass text you're about to read lmfaooo
aemond:
• craves touch but hates to be touched (only accepts physical contact in very specific situations from very specific people)
• doesn't understand when people are joking so he takes everything as an offense (i do this A LOT lmaoo whoops)
• gets overstimulated by textures easily (the outfit he's wearing is too itchy, the tags on his pants are bothering him, he can feel a few loose strands of fabric of his sweater, etc)
• has "silent" meltdowns aka it's very hard to notice if he's having a meltdown (if he's having one, he'll go really quiet and zone out while squeezing his hands together, sometimes even close his eye)
• has a hyperfixation on horses (specially vaghar)
helaena:
• absolutely hates touch (the only time she accepts it is when she's dancing because she doesn't focus on the physical contact and she can only feel the best of the music)
• uses noise canceling headphones because she gets overstimulated easily by any noise (aemond bought them for her and she glued a bunch of insect stickers on them)
• when she had a meltdown, she curls up in a ball and cries silently while rocking back and forth (the only person who knows how to calm her down during a meltdown is aemond because 1. he's also autistic and 2. he was the only one who bothered to ask)
• has a really hard time with change and needs everything to be planned out beforehand
• has a huge hyperfixation on insects and even has a tiktok account dedicated to talking about them and educating people on them and sharing facts about them (aemond even bought her a ring light)
that's all i could think of but feel free to dm me to talk more about it 🫶🫶 i'm more than happy to share my experiences with autism if you want a more accurate representation :))
HI!!!!
first of all no need to apologize for the length of the post, it's exactly what I needed and was looking for! reading this was a delight!!
second of all thank you so much for offering to discuss further I'll definitely shoot you a dm because I have some questions!
now I shall add some of my Thoughts™ because as I realized this is for a modern AU and boy have I been thinking about a modern AU (I apologize in advance for how messy this is going to be):
first off, Aegon. I've been fascinated with his character ever since he appeared, not as much as Aemond, but I have. and while in my canon compliant fics I would not dare make him any type of sympathetic, this is an AU, so I took liberties and made him less of an asshole.
I won't go on too long about him here because this isn't about him but I wanna talk about the sibling bond for a sec.
he actually tries to be a good brother. you said no one else bothered to ask Helaena how to calm her down, and this absolutely fits, even though Aegon is trying. but like they were all kinda young when the two got their diagnoses (still haven't decided how young and I do have a question about diagnosing children especially boys vs girls) and honestly Aegon was pretty damn confused and didn't understand his siblings' perception of the world.
but he is trying. some things he just doesn't get and he's a tad overprotective, but when kids at school were teasing Helaena and Aemond, guess who got into fights and broke someone's nose on one occasion.
okay moving on from Aegon.
so in my AU Aemond, Helaena, Aegon, Jace and Luke grew up together with two other boys, Lannisters, Lucian and Lancel.
Lucian is allistic but he has his reasons for hating and avoiding touch. aside from Helaena, who understands Aemond on a deeper level, Lucian and Aemond always had this understanding about physical touch and when they get together eventually it's never a problem.
a hc of my own is that Aemond sometimes goes nonverbal and that Lucian, Helaena and Aegon learned sign language to be able to communicate with him when it happens, if he's feeling up to it ofc.
like not to go on too much about my boy Lucian but he'd definitely be invested in making Helaena and Aemond feel welcome and comfortable whenever the group was hanging out together. he'd definitely let them infodump about their special interests (he follows Helaena's tiktok!). he's also asked them what to do in the case of a meltdown/shutdown and does his best to help if he's ever present for one.
something I also wanna think about is Aemond and Helaena and masking. like how or to what extent would they do it, for what reasons etc?
okay that is currently all I can scoop out of my brain but I will text you like. right now lol.
