hi hiii i wanted to say that your account is so refreshing to see, esp with the passion you have for the arts. as someone who's been meaning to read (and write) more poetry, do you have any recommendations? some classics that everyone and their mothers know? perhaps some underrated pieces that changed you? or even just authors you like, I'm very open to suggestions :]]
Hi! Thank you so much for this kind ask :) So exciting that you’re looking to delve deeper into reading and writing! I had to take a little time to answer this because my thoughts were all over the place lol.
For a review of notable/classic poems/poets, I honestly just recommend looking at lists online or, hell, just binging Wikipedia pages for different countries’ poetry if that’s something you’re into, just to get a sense of the chronology. I read one of those little Oxford Very Short Introductions on American Poetry and thought it was pretty good, but online is quicker if you’re just searching for poets or movements to hone in on. Poetry Foundation also has lots of resources, in addition to all the poems in their database. I guess my one big classic recommendation would have to be Emily Dickinson (<3), but really the best move is just to find a poet you already enjoy and then look around to see who their peers were/are, who they were inspired by, who they’ve maybe translated here and there, etc. and follow it down the line as far as you can.
For some personal recs, here are some collections I’ve really enjoyed over the past two years or so. Bolded favorites, and linking where select poems from the book have been published online. But also, if you want a preview of a couple poems from another of the books to see if they interest you, DM me and I can send them over! DMZ Colony, Hardly War, Dictee, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely, and partially Whereas are all book-length poems with some prose poetry and varying levels of weirdness/denseness/multilingualism—if you were to pick one to start with, I’d say do Don’t Let Me Be Lonely or Whereas. Mouth: Eats Color is some experimental translations of Japanese modernist poet Chika Sagawa, with other translations and some of Nakayasu’s original stuff mixed in—it's definitely a bit disorienting but ultimately I remember having such fun with it, as much fun as Nakayasu probably had making it. It’s a book that emphasizes co-creation and a spirit of play, and completely changed my attitude towards translation.
If you’re less interested in that kind of formal fuckery stuff though (I get it), can’t go wrong with the other books! Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings is the one I read most recently, and it’s great—Harjo also featured in Round 1! Franz Wright also featured, and God's Silence is the collection which "Night Walk" comes from. James Wright (father of Franz) is one of my favorite poets of all time, though his poetry isn’t perfect. Even so, I’m honestly surprised he’s not doing numbers on Tumblr—Mary Oliver was a big fan of his, even wrote her "Three Poems for James Wright" after his death.
I mentioned in another post that one of my favorite poets is Paul Celan, so I’ll also recommend him here. I read Memory Rose into Threshold Speech which is a translated collection of his earlier poems, but it’s quite long if you’re just getting to know him as a poet—fortunately, both Poetry Foundation and Poets.org have a ton of his poems in their collections. There’s also an article by Ilya Kaminsky about him titled “Of Strangeness That Wakes Us” (!!!!!) that’s a great place to start, and is honestly kind of my whole mission statement when I’m reading and writing poetry. Looking at the books I’ve recommended above, a lot of them share feelings of separateness or alienation—from others, from oneself, from one’s country, from language—that breed strange, private modes of expression. That tends to be what I’m drawn to personally, and that’s some of what Kaminsky talks about.
Sorry of the length of this—I hope it's useful as a jumping-off point! And if you or anyone ends up exploring any of these poets, let me know what you think! If folks wanna reply with recommendations themselves too that'd be great :)

It’s perhaps people like you who drove the rafolearchive off this site. What does it matter if they posted Rafa’s positive words towards Nole? Most of Rafa’s words towards Novak are actually positive or neutral. I think maybe you have built some sort of evil caricature of Rafa in your head and that’s okay you do you but the thing about his conditioning I cannot let slide as someone who also deals with chronic pain. Sorry @bluespring864 for doing this on your page.
Oh boy. Yes, me, who routinely sent the rafolearchive (off-anon!) asks and left them comments under anon asks they got where someone was really mean in their inbox and reblogged a lot of their stuff with nice comments about Rafa and Nole must be the one who drove them off this site.
I don't know what you're reading into my words but I literally said the rafolearchive mostly reposted happier interactions between Rafa and Nole because most of us enjoy people getting along well. And in the "most of us" group I very much included myself. (I think someone else may have said something about the rafolearchive posting more of Rafa's positive interactions with Novak (which is true, but in this case please talk to them and not me? Oh, I just realised, is that why you're 'apologising' to me for "doing this on my page" because one of my mutuals doesn't have their inbox open? Wow, that's a new level of being an online troll. So I guess that other part wasn't directed at me either lol. Still ridiculous to accuse another user of (politely) speaking their mind. If you were interested in an honest discussion you could just have replied to that conversation on the other post you took offense to. But clearly you need to hide behind anonymity.

By the way I am sorry to hear you're dealing with chronic pain. please explain ‘the sea is a drop’ and ‘letters sent in exile’
okay anon the dash is hopefully asleep now. this got kind of long so. explanation below the cut.
you see. sometimes you Perceive a hockey player. and you're like hm. this Compels Me. and then you proceed to put said hockey player into situations you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. out of love. so both these tags are uh. references to AUs that currently solely exist in the DMs (everyone say 'thank you bes' for quarantining me and my wretched thoughts away from the dash)
'the sea is a drop' is a line from a longer piece by adélia prado:
"Night! Make yourself useful and cover me with sleep. Me and the thought of death just can't get used to each other.
I'll tremble with fear until the end.
And meanwhile, everything is so small.
Compared to my heart's desire,
the sea is a drop."

this is in reference to the two central characters of this AU learning to confront their own desires for their lives but also for each other. anything tagged with 'the sea is a drop' will likely have some sort of reference to desire / yearning / confronting your own wants / the mortifying ordeal of being known.
'letters sent in exile' is a reference to metaphorical letters sent between two characters while one of them spends several years in self-imposed exile, trying to heal from a super fun combo of life-altering bad choices + heartbreak + trauma + self-loathing + repressed anger. despite their years long separation, there's still a very real and very profound bond between them and they both occupy the other's thoughts in their own unique ways!
things tagged with 'letters sent in exile' will likely be more melancholic, or reference devotion, healing, deep and abiding love, regret, anger... it's a bit of a mixed bag.

If/when we get through the bulk of the current submissions. Our backlog is so massive that this may not happen until 2026 (at the latest) though. Sorry!

You can check our progress by looking at the submissions spreadsheet. Finished submissions are the ones highlighted turquoise. Keep in mind that we post once per hour, and you can probably estimate the date from there.

⏭ Why didn't my submissions post in the order I submitted them?
We rearrange the queue if there's a lot of bands of the same genre/vibe submitted in a row. Or for no reason.

⏭ Why didn't my submission get posted at all?
A few reasons this could happen:
Your band is still in the queue, just not in order (see the question above this one)
Your band has been submitted before (search the blog or the data sheet for them)
Your band is so obscure we couldn't find album art or genre info for them
We genuinely made a mistake: thought we did them already, or accidentally skipped them, etc.
Feel free to submit them again (though, if possible, please first search the suggestions spreadsheet to make sure nobody else has submitted them again already).
If you're positive your submission got skipped, you can also send an off-anon ask or DM a mod, and we'll post a poll for them ASAP if the submission is valid. Accidents happen.

Tagging it would put the post in the lap of every fan who follows or searches for the tag. For popular bands, we feel this would skew the results too much.

I have an elderly dog and I work as a math tutor for my college. I’m currently studying graphic design but I was previously a biology major. I like to draw in my spare time, I’m a huge fan of post punk and new wave music. Every time I go to karaoke, Creep by Radiohead is the first song I choose (yes I’m cringe). I love D&D and nerdy shit and spend most of my time at my local game club! I’m autistic, adhd, and probably have POTS and hypermobility so some days or weeks are harder on my body than others! My favorite color is pink and I love spy movies and comedy sitcoms about terrible people.

I hit an absolutely wild (to me, anyway) AO3 subscriber milestone overnight, and after lying on the floor for a while about it, I want to CELEBRATE with a ficlet fest for all y'all who are so kind and supportive and just fucking awesome.
So! Feel free to send me:
A location: I absolutely encourage you to go buckwild here, because y'all know I love a challenge. You can also include a (vague) time period as well as a location if you want to, but you absolutely do not have to. (And there's no guarantee that if you don't send a time period it will be modern-day!)
A ship or focus character of your choice
Your username on AO3, if it differs from your tumblr username, so I can gift it to you there once it's written!
A maximum rating if you're not happy for it to go to E. I'm not saying all of them will, but... well, y'all know me, it's always a risk. So if you wouldn't want to read something E-rated, let me know what the highest rating you'd be happy with is.
And in return you get... a ficlet. Honestly, could be anywhere from 300 to 3000 words, depending on where the mood so takes me. 1-3 are required, though; I need something more than "IDK whatever you feel like" (that's what my normal WIP list is for 😅)
Important note the first: the idea here is a jumping-off point rather than a detailed prompt. So something like "FirstPrince at the barbershop" is awesome! "FirstPrince meet-cute at the barbershop where Alex accidentally comes onto Henry and then they hook up" is more detailed than I'm looking for for these (also I already wrote that one, so it'd be a waste of your time.)

You exited the building as fast as possible wanting nothing but to finally meet your boyfriend. You two were to go out after your classes - have a little lunch and then maybe go to one of your places and watch a movie. As soon as he spotted you he knew something was off. He couldn't pinpoint specific details - maybe it was your posture that appeared a bit smaller, maybe it was the anxious look in your eyes or the way your face frowned a bit. He just instantly knew something was not right. "Hi honey" he slowly whispered in your hair as you greeted each other with a tight hug. You felt so fragile and stupid but his arms wrapped around you gave you a hint of comfort. "You want to scratch the lunch and just take takeout to my place?" he asked as he tucked your hair behind your ear. You just nodded and gave him a small smile.
"So you remember the test that I sat last week?" of course he remembered. He was away but anytime he would Facetime you, your mind went somewhere else. At first, he was a bit bothered about it but quickly understood your mind was occupied with your studies. He never really pursued academics but tried to help you as much as he could - he asked you to simply explain certain terminology (so you would understand things better) or every time you had study sessions he would text you at the top of the hour to remind you to take a break. "So, yeah… I just didn't do well. I don't know what happened… I mean, it just happened" you said as you gazed at your shoes. He noticed your sudden shyness and grabbed your hand "Oh love, I'm sorry you're stressed lately. Let me take care of you. When we come home you take a nice shower and I will organise everything else". As your eyes finally met he planted a kiss on your hand.
You did like he said. The hot shower provided a comforting feeling of a cleanse even on the mental side. Oscar's house always gave you a whole lot of comfort. Cotton bedsheets, soft towels, warm lighting and your boyfriend's presence made you ten times calmer. You stepped into the kitchen wearing your PJs - you always had a set at Oscar's. He stood in the kitchen, unpacking the food that had just been delivered. His soft curls lightly bounced as he was moving. He hummed a song that had been stuck in his mind - it was a Lana Del Rey song but he never admits he listens to her songs. You wrapped your arms around his waist and rested your head on his back which caused him to smile.
The rest of the evening was filled with cuddles and low-volume sit-coms. You two were on the couch, two soft blankets covering your bodies, your head rested on his chest as the sound of his heartbeat and his hand stroking your back caused you to fall asleep.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay?” Jihyo was pressing her elbow into the center console as she spoke out of the passenger window. She squinted her eyes at Anna when the girl didn’t respond, waiting for an answer from her, “I’ll sit at another table and if he tries anything I’ll jump him. I’m serious.”
Anna was quick to shake her head, pulling the strap of her purse up higher on her shoulder, “Nono please don’t do that. I’ll be okay, we’re just meeting this time so I can properly apologize.” Her eyes seemed to drift away as she rushed out the words, Jihyo’s curious eyes seeming like they were burning a hole into her. The incident backstage played on a continuous, haunting loop in her head, like a bug that won’t leave you alone, and she hasn’t stopped feeling bad ever since.
“Hey, call me when you’re done and I’ll come get you,” Jihyo pouted in defeat, making sure she had Anna’s attention before putting the car in drive and smiling at her, waving out the window as she pulled away.
Anna swallowed thickly as she watched the car drive down the street, tucking a fallen lock of hair back behind her ear. Part of her wished she said yes for Jihyo to stay. At least it would’ve killed a little of the awkwardness that was for sure going to happen. But she was a big girl and could do this herself. She took a deep breath in as she turned on her heels, pulling the door to the small café open.
A faint blush dusted her cheeks when she did a quick scan of the room, eyes falling directly onto the man she had come to see. He was sitting in the back corner of the room, elbow pressed firmly on the table as he scrolled through his phone. She nibbled on the inside of her cheek as she held onto the strap of her purse and let her feet guide her over to his table.
“Oh, Youngmi!” Joshua snapped his eyes over to her as she approached the table, shutting his phone off and standing up from the chair to greet her properly.
“Hi there,” She smiled at him and internally cringed at the awkward wave of her hand, “I hope I’m not late. I-I got a little lost along the way and I just-.”
“Huh? Lost?”
She pinched her eyebrows together in confusion as she swallowed down the lump quickly building in the back of her throat again, shuffling her feet from side to side.
“I-uh was meeting Hoshi here but I don’t know where he is. He was supposed to be here by now,” Joshua rubbed at the back of his neck as the tips of his ears pricked with redness.
“You’re meeting Hoshi here? He texted me and said yesterday that you had wanted to meet me here today?”
She was just as confused as he was. She pulled out her phone and brought up the text message sent to her last night to confirm for herself that she wasn’t going crazy before turning her phone towards Joshua.
His eyes scanned over the messages between the two, his lips forming a frown as he tapped on his own phone to see the illuminated twelve o’clock displayed across his lockscreen.
“That little-,” He let out a sigh, closing his eyes briefly before his face softened and grinned at her, “I’m assuming this is our lunch meeting.”
“I guess it is,” The awkwardness seemed to fizzle out as she smiled and nodded her head, tucking her phone away and loosening the grip she had on her bag strap. She reached her hand out to pull out the back of the chair but was stopped almost instantly by a much larger hand grazing hers.
“Wait, let me get that for you,” He was quick to move around the table, gripping the metal rung and scooting the chair backwards. Anna’s cheeks redden at his actions, thanking him quickly before shouldering off her purse and sitting down into the chair, hanging her purse off of the empty seat beside her.
“This place is actually really nice.” She looked around the café with bright eyes. It was a little on the rustic side, shades of brown complimented each other with random pops of greenery scattered around accenting everything together, “I’m loving the cozy vibe.”
Joshua dipped his head down in a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck out of shyness, “Yeah, I heard about this place from Hoshi actually.”
“He seems to have orchestrated everything,” Anna could feel herself grinning as she thanked Joshua when he handed her the tabletop menu to have a look at.
“Yeah, yeah he definitely has his nose everywhere.” He agreed with an echoed laugh.
She took her bottom lip between her teeth, biting down gently as she studied over the menu. Everything looked and sounded delicious, it was hard to choose.
“Well, what are you thinking of getting? It might make this decision a little easier to pick something-,” Anna did another quick sweep over the menu before pulling her eyes away looking up, her cheeks instantly heating up when she had caught sight of Joshua’s eye’s lingering on her and the faintest smile on his lips, “What is it?”
“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stare, I was just...um-,” His cheeks mimicked her redness as he licked his lips and looked away quickly.
“No it’s okay!” She smiled at him as she laid the menu down on the table. Joshua turned back towards her and the butterflies in her stomach fluttered as he swiped a hand through his hair out of nervousness. She wasn’t going to mention to him that she had found it endearing.
“I was thinking of maybe getting this breakfast sandwich,” He drew her attention down towards one of the many pictures scattered across the menu showing the top rated foods, “If it’s anything like the picture, then I’m sure it’s gonna taste incredible.”
“It’s decided! Let’s make it two then!”
As they waited for their order to be called, her eyes dropped down to his phone set off on the side of the table, focusing her attention on the crack at the top of the screen, “Was that from me? I swear I’ll pay to have it fixed!”
His eyes widened as he took a sip from his coffee, shaking his head rapidly when her finger grazed over the obvious crack. He swallowed down his coffee, giving her a warm smile, “Anna, you’re gonna worry yourself crazy. I promise, don’t worry about it.”
His hand laid gently on top of hers, pulling her attention up towards him instead of on his phone after noticing her eyes not leaving the device. Her lips curled upwards into a small smile as she nodded her head, “You’re right, sorry- I mean, sorry-.” Anna closed her eyes in defeat, a sharp grin forming on her mouth knowing she wasn’t ever going to win the battle.
Joshua brought his hand up to shield his laugh away the best he could, tilting his head backwards on the chair.
Containing themselves together, Joshua’s hands clasped together as he rested his elbows on the table. In an attempt to calm her nerves down again, she copied his stance on the table, the two of them grinning back and forth at each other.
“Right, let’s play twenty questions. I’d ask where you were from but your accent kinda gives it away.”
“Is it really that noticeable?” Anna’s eyes crinkled as she joked back, scrunching her nose up into a laugh when Joshua pulled his thumb and pointer finger together to indicate a small amount, “Okay my turn, I actually don’t know this but I’ll ask it, where are you from? It’s so boring I know.”
“Hey, it’s still a question! And Los Angeles, born and raised. I moved here when I was seventeen? Eighteen? I honestly can’t remember anymore.”
Anna’s eyes perked up when he mentioned LA, with some of her relatives living there, she used to frequent visiting as often as she could, “I’ve always loved LA. I can’t really say it’s much different to Sydney though.”
“Hmm let me think,” Joshua rested his palms on the table as he leaned back in his seat, “Favorite childhood memory?”
“Ooo okay!” Anna grabbed her phone and went to the pictures app, opening up a folder containing pictures of her and her family, scrolling through until she found the ones that she needed to go along with the story. She flipped the phone around for Joshua to view them better, letting him flip through the pictures.
“So my dad works at a wildlife rescue and there were always a few animals that unfortunately couldn’t be released back into the wild for whatever the reason, so they housed and took care of them at the rescue,” Joshua looked up at Anna with a warm gaze, letting her know that he was listening, “Sometimes when I would come after school, my dad would let me hold the orphaned baby animals and I’d get to help feed them and play with them.”
“Look at you!” Joshua turned the phone around and showed the image of Anna sitting on the floor playing around with a baby kangaroo, “That’s so neat! I bet you were popular in school!”
“Everyone definitely wanted to be my friend after knowing I got to play with the animals.” She smiled at the memory as he continued to flip through the pictures.
He handed Anna back her phone after he was finished and without even skipping a beat, “Next time I visit, I’ll take you with me and we can go visit my dad!”
Anna’s eyes widened when she realized what she had said, her cheeks blushing a shade of light crimson, “O-Only if you’d want to that is!”
“Are you kidding? That would be an amazing experience.”
Anna cleared her throat as she smiled back at him, “Okay your turn, favorite childhood memory?”
Before he even had the chance to respond back, their order number was called from the front counter, pulling them both back into reality of where they were and what they were actually doing.
After leaving the café, the two of them had exchanged numbers and continued their game of twenty questions which in turn became forty questions the entire way home, going back and forth between the two of them.
“I guess Hoshi knew what he was doing,” Anna smiled down at her lap as another text message from Joshua came through.
‘Had a nice time today! :)
Would love to do it again sometime!
Get home safely!’
“Hmm, Soonyoung?” Jihyo’s puzzled face went unnoticed by Anna as she was too busy texting a message back to Joshua. She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth as she went back and forth on what to text back, deciding on something short and sweet.
‘Sure will! :) & I would like that very much!’
Anna leaned her head back against the headrest as she stared out of the window, a smile plastered to lips as she clutched her phone between her fingers, watching the trees and buildings pass by in a blink of an eye, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly.
