siiiigh. todd autism headcanons because im projecting.

(using they/he/she pronouns for todd in this post. will explain but also if u dont agree i dont care, tw for alcoholism. time period is vague but autism hasnt existed as a legitimate medical diagnosis for all that long, so keep it in mind i guess.)

- cannot for the life of him stand welton's blankets. so itchy, just thin enough to not warm you up enough but still make you sweat, not long enough to cover your entire body. yes im making the blanket line in their poem about actual blankets, a boy needs to vent somewhere.

- beyond terrible temperature regulation, ALWAYS just a little too hot which is made worse by her sensory issues when it comes to wet fabric. constant slight agony and it never really goes away. theyre about 5 minutes away from crying about how uncomfortable they are at all times.

- had god awful handwriting until high school, like his teachers could BARELY read his handwriting it was Bad. OOOOOH OH MY GOD THERES A TRAIN GOING BY I CAN HEAR IT HONKING this is a really ironic thing to be pointing out rn but its sooooo worth mentioning. its still honking this is fun. 🚂. anyway. her parents made her spend an entire summer fixing her handwriting bc that was like the One thing her teachers criticised. its Fine now but their motor function simply doesn't deliver in the handwriting department.

- had a VERY INTENSE special interest in aquatic life + marine biology growing up, like read every book about any ocean animal in any library intense. his parents eventually forced him to abandon it because its "not a good career focus" but he still perks up when anyone mentions fish. once talked neils ear off about the biodiversity of coral reefs for roughly 2 hours, neil took her to an aquarium for their first date. rip todd anderson you wouldve loved spongebob squarepants.

- looooves pets, namely cats, but they have Too Sweaty hands all the time so any animal fur sticks onto their hands and just feels. so awful.

- had a brief period in his 20s where he was definitely an alcoholic, started as a social drinker but got too addicted to the feeling of not having to adhere to social conventions quite as hard, especially around other drunk ppl. eventually went sober after they realised they just Cant Stand the feeling of a hangover anymore. autistic ppl r more likely to develop a dependency on alcohol if we do start drinking. just btw.

- gets a Pretty Expansive vocabulary after actually starting to pursue literature. sometimes his family lightly teases him about using big words but it confuses the hell out of him. its just a word she thought would apply best!!

- soooooo obsessed with what other ppls idea of them is, both in an anxious way and out of genuine curiosity. would never ask ppl what they think of her bc she thinks thats 1) very broad 2) seems compliment fish-y and 3) just gonna lead to "i think ur great/ nice/ whatever filler compliment." but the dream is to sit someone (neil) down and just ask him every single question possible about how he perceives him.

- asks a billion clarifying questions about anything someone asks him to do, gets anxious about how many questions he's asking, tries to just figure it out, freaks out about the possibility of getting it wrong, ends up doing the thing perfectly. weekly occurrence.

- never fully grasped the appeal of religion (most definitely grew up catholic or christian or Something) just bc she could NOT let the lack of proof go. ALSO not an atheist bc the vastness of space scares them out of it. religious beliefs r a weird topic for them.

- suppresses a good chunk of his stims in public bc One total time someone looked at him weird while he was chewing on a sweatshirt string and he was like i gotta stop NOW. eventually develops tics and has to mask THOSE in public too. dear god someone let this girl unmask. also i started ticcing while writing that bc my body does this great thing where i only tic when im reminded of the concept of ticcing. its great and totally doesnt make me think im faking them (faking for who? dunno bc it usually happens when im alone)

- DOES in fact stim around neil bc NEIL STIMS TOO!!!!!!!! joyous day when they found THAT out! gets vocal stims of random lines from whatever play neil is practicing for. YEAA ART THOU THEEEEREE was a vocal stim for a solid week and a half which made neil VERY excited (autistic neil. how i love u autistic anderperry)

- velcro is The most evil vile disgusting material to ever grace this mortal realm. he hates it more than anything ever and i mean that fully. the feeling of BOTH sides, the noise, how easily it comes apart, she hates it all.

this is the gender part

never really viewed gender and gender roles as anything to adhere to beyond the fear of punishment if they dont. finds any social convention relating to gender to be Really dumb and meaningless, bc gender isn't (scientifically) real in any capacity, so why treat it like that? for the longest time just shrugged and said "eh, i guess im a boy" bc thats what she was used to being told, and didn't feel particularly drawn to agree OR disagree. eventually realised on a late night that Wait. i dont Actually care what i am. like yeah im a Male i guess but also im just me. my brain doesnt have a gender and i basically am my brain, right? and then never really thought about it again because that's genuinely how little he cares. adhering the most to canon with that mindset, she never really tells anyone (for obvious reasons on top of the overall apathy) and just lets the he/him happen to her but. in my dream world? agender they/he/she todd anderson. and this is MY blog so those are the pronouns im using from now on. i will forever love talking abt how autistic ppl very often view gender differently than allistic ppl, will forever love talking abt how autistic ppl are more likely to be trans. autism!!!

also yes that entire paragraph is just my view of gender, change the pronouns and the todd mentions and its just me. what of it.

Ok, so this is a little unorthodox for me because I usually only put songs from the characters' perspectives on their respective playlists, but I can't get this scene out of my head. In my mind, this is Mazey's perspective from the chunk of that first downtime when Fabian invites her and everyone else in dance class to Seacaster Manor, and Fabian starts to really come out of his shell.

Think of it like a slow-burn montage of the two dancing (literally dancing) around their potential feelings for one another. The song has a really nice groove to it, and it matches up with Mazey's cool and earnest personality.

I wrote a short retelling of the ending spoilers for a discord server I'm in. And. Oh☹️ they changed how it was portraited. Of course they would☹️

They already changed how Lloyd would view his death– which, by the way, was seriously more tragic when he could FEEL himself die– to it just him being an outsider that can't feel or interact with anything

Novel Javier was holding back tears, trying to comfort Lloyd by telling him to Cheer Up, the doctor will be here soon, he even gave his heart a massage using mana vs Webtoon Javier with tears and sweat rolling down his face trying desperately to prolong Lloyd's life with a mana transfer

Idk the novel scene genuinely made me sad meanwhile the webtoon just made me go 0-0 ohh that cant be good. but. thats it

Like. Just.

Novel Lloyd who arrived at his own conclusion after Javier told him that the hole they dug to throw away all the excreements from the refugees was full even though it wasn't too long ago that they dug it out

Webtoon Lloyd that was literally told to 'Remember Vienna'

Novel Lloyd, who, even in his deathbed, was still trying to comfort Javier by squeezing the hand that was holding him with all the strength he got left vs "Javier... That's enough... It's no use... and you know it... Live on... and burn them..." then promptly passes away

"Cheer up a little. Please. Lloyd-nim. Just hang in there. The doctor will be here soon." vs "You are... the protector of my second home... and a hero to the thousands of refugees you saved. That... is what the world will know you as."

Like. I don't know why this actually irritates me☹️

not only did they completely changed the way lloyd experiences the ending spoilers but y'know what infuriates me the most about this particular spoiler? the way they had lloyd see a good chunk of time after he's already dead. like!! no!!!! one of the most impactful things about the ending spoilers is how fast and abrupt and brutal they are!!

later on lloyd has to carefully time his death to make sure his past self gets to hear and see all the he needs! he can't make it too long lest his word not be included in the spoiler! because the spoilers always end the moment he dies and not a moment later! he gets to experience excruciating death and then the abrupt shock of being thrown back to his own time!

in the webtoon not only does he not get to feel himself die with every spoiler, in episode 70 he even gets to see javier prep his body and burn it along with everyone else's. like. that would've been an insane amount of time compared to the few minutes at best he gets in the novel!

and it's such a cheat to have lloyd leave himself a message at this point of the story! that isn't supposed to happen until the fourth spoiler! you see the progression of lloyd slowly learning to leave more and more clues at the time of his death to the point where by the fifth spoiler he's just outright talking to himself. not like the webtoon that has him leave a message already by the second spoiler :P

and like not to repeat back at you everything but. god. the way they completely changed javier's words,,,, like. not even close to what they were supposed to be...

"You can't... You can't leave me so soon." Javier's voice dripped with sadness and anxiety. Lloyd felt his hand being grabbed. Javier was trembling. This guy. Is he sad because I'm about to die? Lloyd guessed that his teasing friendship with Javier lasted as they grew old together. "Just hold on a little more. Please.” Javier spoke, almost pleading.

the 'you can't leave me so soon' of it all,,,,, why would they completely erase that,,,,,

novel javier is just... softer? the whole scene? instead of the frantic desperation we see in the webtoon, in the novel he's just,,, begging lloyd to hold on just a little longer, just wait for the doctor to arrive, almost keeping lloyd's heart beating himself

Lloyd suddenly felt Javier's grip tighten. At the same time, warm and clean energy flowed into his body. It was mana. Emergency treatment? Lloyd was right about it. Javier was sending his mana to Lloyd, and it traveled from his hand through the elbow to reach his chest, expanding its range at every beat and driving away the murky energy in his system. At the same time, it continuously pressed on his heart. Lloyd realized what Javier was doing. He's massaging my heart. It appeared as though this future Lloyd would draw his last breath anytime soon. Javier was striving hard to extend his life at all costs. Lloyd's heart ached as he noticed how desperate Javier was. "Master Lloyd. Please bear a little more. The physician will be here soon."

it's a different tone, a different kind of desperation if that makes sense

i also really like this chapter's illustration which is not what we get in the webtoon lol

i won't put a screenshot of javier in this episode to compared them cause i'm not that bitchy but. c'mon.

having said all that. i kinda can't bring myself to completely dislike the webtoon's version aklshdjksfds

like. they kinda did go off with javier almost exploding his own heart to give his mana to lloyd,,, and then that panel of his hands clutching lloyd's shirt,,, cradling lloyd's hand in his own,,,, i am not immune to a little clinging,,,

but overall i completely get your irritation nonnie i do have a lot of grievances with the webtoon when it comes to how they're choosing to adapt the ending spoilers so. i get you 〒▽〒

sp just got with a 3p. ive been manifesting for a year now and now i feel hopeless and like i failed. i feel like ive lied to myself just to comfort myself about our break up. i love sp dearly but idk what to do. he says he loves her. and i saw my other fav loass twitter account just had the same thing happen. it sucks. my heart hurts.

im sorry babe i understand youre hurt and thats 100% valid. take as long as you need to feel better and turn to self soothing methods (EFT tapping, breathwork, etc) to ground and calm yourself. when youre feeling not so great theres absolutely zero point forcing manifestation or forcing a state since youre prob not going to fulfill yourself anyways.

secondly, your words “hopeless” and “failure” tell me exactly where youve been focusing for the past “year” youve been “manifesting” (hint: you haven’t been consciously manifesting for a year straight bc you prob spent a good chunk of that figuring things out and learning the ropes, overconsuming and desiring. dont confuse learning the law with applying, you’re telling me for a YEAR straight you would bet everything you have to tell me that you’ve been in the state of being in a fulfilling relationship? i think not). you’ve been focusing on how its not here and how youre gona do the “work” to get them back/in a relationship with you.

even you saying you feel like you lied to yourself to feel better shows exactly what state you’ve been occupying. if you were actually fulfilled and understood that youre not getting back the sp who you arent with in the 3D/the one dating someone else then you wouldn’t be in shambles over a NEUTRAL 3D that means absolutely nothing. thats not your reality because you as god of your imagination already experienced the relationship remember? you ALREADY got back with them, so how can YOU as god of YOUR imagination go back and say “lol nvm actually were not together, hes with a 3p so fuck everything i experienced!” this also shows you haven’t accepted the 3D as is and were hoping and wishing that you “manifesting” would reflect in some near future. hence youve probably been embodying a state that definitely wasnt being someone in a committed relationship. this journey isnt about hope and wishing, its about being and LIVING your life normally. its not lying to yourself if you already came to terms with the current 3D (which we cant change forcefully - we can only change self) and understood that your manifestation IS NOT COMING FROM THE 3D AT ALL, let alone the shitty 3D where you guys broke up or whatever circumstances happened. yes in this specific 3D hes with someone else but why would you care? you already experienced your manifestation with YOUR partner who you already are dating in the reality that truly matters.

you cannot be imagining to solve circumstances. neville got rejected in the 3D for leaving the army yet he didn’t give uo because that rejection didnt mean he failed because he wasn’t imagining to GET OUT (aka youre not imagining to get sp back or remove a 3p), he was imagining to experience being back w his family (youre imagining to experience the relationship of your dreams). obviously if your goal is 3D oriented then yes it will seem like you failed because youre depending on the external to give you something.

A/N: I couldn't find the good but found this one which adds to the orchies in this story :) Also, it's taken a good minute to get this one done but this is the last one for the february drabble day!!!

"Are you hurt?!"

Brock smirked, "ye-hahhh- no, no.. not hurt-" he leaned against the wall, dropping his head back with a small thud, "that was too close."

You nodded, still close enough that you could drop your head to his broad chest. He had saved you, somewhere Captain America and his team were saving the day. Brock and his team, you included, were backup, cover- to take on the lesser dangers. And you did a great job, but you had been pinned down, the enemies weapons shrieking with brightly colored flashes that hit hard and took chunks out of concrete.

Jack had gone down and been unable to get out, you had moved in, offering cover fire and getting him out. You had run out of ammo just as you followed and that's where Brock had come in. Literally out of the crumbling building just as the ugly motherfuckers had followed on your heels.

And maybe Jack was right, the fact that you two were intimate was a bad thing. Cause you would do anything for the other, including getting in a tight spot and just as Brock took out four he had missed the one you caught in your peripheral vision, it was a split second and you had barely managed to pivot on your heel, but you sprang back towards him, crashing into him bodily as the bright flash went off. You had snaked his back up out his back holster and taken the alien down.

And here you both were, struggling to catch your breath, you took a step back as Jack swung back around from your left. "Fuck, the two of you are a goddamn mess," he growled, three more of your team rounding the corner to join you.

You grinned, shoving a hand through your hair and glancing at Brock, worry hitting you as you realized he had slouched against the wall, eyes closed and hadn't moved.

"Brock? BROCK?!" Your voice pitched higher as you spotted a large patch of red on his lower right abdomen. You rushed back towards him as he opened his eyes, Jack following your movements, you dropped your weapon as your heart sank into your stomach, a sob breaking out as you scrambled to tear his tee out of his tac pants.

Brock felt the air escape him as you broke into tears, your hands on his bare gut. "Baby," he soothed, reaching up to cup your face in his hands. "It's fine, nothings wrong, I'm okay, see?" He straightened and leaned down, pressing a kiss to your lips. "Just got the air knocked out of me is all."

You smiled against his lips as he pressed his forehead to yours. "Yeah-" the word came out shaky and you couldn't believe the terror that had run through you, the shock had made your hands go numb.

Jack scowled, "the fuck all that blood come from then?"

You turned to look at him, "what?" His words were not registering. You heard him, saw his pale blue eyes go wide as they shot down, you felt Brocks hands on your shoulders and he turned you back to face him harshly. "Brock–" You murmured knees giving out suddenly, relief was funny like that.

"I got ya– fuck, fuck thats… baby… Jack?!" His voice broke as he wrapped his arms around you, catching you midfall, looking to his best friend for help.

"Sorry baby-" you slurred, "guess that adrenaline hit hard… nngh, wha-what's happening?" You asked as Jack rushed over, throwing his weapon over his shoulder as Brock moved you to the ground. You looked down as both men pressed their hands on your abdomen. "Oh, OH! Oh god!" It had torn through your vest, blood had soaked through your clothes on the right side of you, which is why Jack hadn't spotted it till you had turned towards him. You could feel it in your boot.

"Shhh, shh, I'm right here Y/N–" he looked over as Jack barked at the three behind him, one dropping beside you and scrambling with the medic bag he carried, a small thing, you wondered if there was anything in there that would actually help?

"Kevin?"

"Hey, your good, we got you" he grinned at you, though he looked pale as he pulled out packs of gauze and finally tore his vest and shirt off, stuffing it into your side.

You cried out as he and Jack sat you up, using duct tape to secure the dressing. You felt dizzy, nausea swamping you as you glanced up at Brock.

"If you don't fucking save her I WILL MAKE YOU FUCKING REGRET IT," he bit into his comm.

"Brock?" You sounded small, even to your own ears. But it was the look in his unwavering gaze that scared you more; Brock Rumlow looked scared.

"We gotta move her," Kevin said. You cried out as he wrapped an arm around your waist, trying to lift you, "we can't wait–"

Brock shook his head, "I got her," he moved in close, taking Kevin's spot and smiled at you, "it's gonna hurt baby, but gotta get you moving alright? Gotta meet that stupid goody two shoes halfway." You whined but nodded your head, "that's my girl," he said, wrapping an arm under your knees and another around your lower waist, "hold on okay?" You nodded and howled in pain when he lifted you quickly, the team surrounding the two of you. "Sorry," he murmured against your temple.

Brock swallowed, you were beyond pale, nearly ashen. You leaned into him, whimpering as he moved, every step he took jostling you and exhaustion beat at you.

"Do NOT fall asleep," he growled as you dropped your head against his chest. "Y/N I swear to fucks sake, stay awake or so help me–"

You glanced up at him, vision blurring, "sorry babe," a nervous giggle bubbling up, "tired…"

Brock didn't pray, he didn't believe in some God that let shit like kids with cancer or abusive parents be a real thing but when you tucked your head under his chin, he found himself doing exactly that. "Y/N!" He shook you as he ran, but you didn't respond, so he dug his fingers into your side.

"FUCK!" You jerked in his hold, feet kicking as new tears sprang into your eyes. "Fuck that hurt you fucking BASTARD!"

Brock was grateful to have your palm slap against his jaw, he would take a hundred more so long as you kept your eyes open, he would listen to you curse him for the rest of your life, so long as you had breath. "Stay the fuck awake or I will break up with you."

You scowled at him but found it incredibly hard to keep your eyes open. Another delirious giggle bubbling up, "I love you." You had to say it, at least before you couldn't anymore.

A chill ran through him as he glanced down at you, watched as you lost the fight to stay awake, he felt you go limp in his fucking arms and his throat tightened. He was still running. He couldn't stop. You couldn't– if you didn't… what was there if you weren't there in the morning? He hadn't even said it to you, but you had to know. Right? You knew, even if he hadn't said it…

"We're here!" Jack cried out as the team broke out of cover.

He looked up, damned Captain leaning out of the quinjet and reaching out; it went against his whole fucking being to hand you over. Emotions he had never felt sweeping through him as he lifted you up and let you go, your body pulled out of his grasp by Steve.

He would catch the next one, it was right there, but his legs didn't work quite well as you disappeared from his line of sight, the quinjet zooming away.

Brock heaved a strangled broken cry as Jack crashed into him, pushing him to their own ride. "She's gonna make it–" he bit through clenched teeth, hoping to whatever fucking god people prayed to as Brock stumbled along after him. He glanced up before boarding, the remaining three of their team right behind him and looking haunted. It wasn't just Brock, the team needed you.

"He better fucking save her–" Brock murmured as the quinjet jerked off the ground.

so. uhm. fish boy. his name is gillion tidestrider (champion of the undersea, hero of the deep, etc etc about a billion more titles that he just keeps aquiring as the campaign goes on) and hes a paladin with ohhhhh so much of a hero complex. oh my god. dude. hes so . everything to me . (played by charlie slimecicle btw. that guy is so fucking good at balancing silly goofy moments with heartwrenching voice acting. in one of the most recent episodes he is literally. hanging from a hook through his hands missing chunks of skin on 1hp literally only alive because he happened to cast death ward on himself. and hes wearing those goddamn trout fish sandals that u see on facebook ads or whatever.)

uhm. so. holy shit. where do i even start. he is the chosen one of a prophecy that says its his duty to one day choose who will survive between the undersea (triton, underwater creatures, where he grew up) and the oversea (basically. land.) and the other will be destroyed. so when he was very young (i want to say maybe like..5 or 6? i dont remember im actually searching for that info rn for the thing im writing) he was taken away from his family to begin training with the Elders (basically the. rulers of the undersea) . my boy he was raised to be a weapon. he was raised to be a tool (<< real canon words out of his own mouth). my favorite little child soldier. he wore armor that was too big for him and carried swords that were taller than he was. he was raised to put protecting others over his own safety so he rushes out into danger without even thinking about how it might affect him. he is so passively suicidal and ready to sacrifice himself at any minor inconvenience that when this information is eventually put in front of him his response is "what? no, thats what im Supposed to do." a very important phrase for him in early episodes was "whats one more burden?"

also he has a pet frogtopus (frog + octopus) her name is pretzel and she rides around in a little orb on his belt and also on his shoulders sometimes. i love her

uhnmmm what else. im so insane about the tidestrider siblings forever. do not get me wrong the other PCs in this campaign are also excellent and i love them (Jay is the daughter of a navy captain who defected to join a pirate crew to figure out what caused the death of her older sister. Chip is. oh boy. orphan who was taken in by a pirate crew when he was 7. pirate crew in question was swallowed by some sort of magic force that corrupted literally a fourth of the globe. but he somehow survived and is now trying to find out if his old family is still alive. jay and chip are like adopted siblings to me. chip and gillion had to roll a performance check for a kiss one time and they both got nat 20s and its all gone downhill from there for them. i love jay and chip dearly but something abojt gillion just scratches a very specific itch in my brain i love him so much and its only partially because hes a fish and im the fish guy.) ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION GILLION IS CANONICALLY ASEXUAL and this is a fact that actually has come up within canon and is not just a word of god twitter mention fact. no. my boy is actively asexual and it makes me soooooo happy forever.

43. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (DS, 2009)

Devil Survivor is amazing.

I will admit that I was pretty darn scheptical at first with the main artist being Suzuhito Yasuda and it being a tactical rpg

Something about the cybersleuth artist working on it seemed off to me, it made me expect alot of anime tropes.

I am not speaking badly of Yasuda mind you.

The man is a great artist and his works are great! (Love most of the designs here and his work on cybersleuth is lovely!)

Its just that my brain just associates him with cybersleuth and that game goes for a wayyy different tone.

I am also incredibly bad at tactical rpgs which didnt help

I dont play them often due to me being an absolute pussy and I dont want my favorite units dying forever.

Considering that, It was a bit of a shock hearing that this was one of the best entries in the entire series.

I heard it from multiple people which had me curious.

And at the start of last month, I decided to give it a go and my god im I glad I did. (well its not last month by the time im posting this, this review got left cooking too long)

SMT:DeSu (Can't call it DS, theres like 3 games that start with DS) is one of most deceiptfully amazing entries in the series.

Alot of things that should be bad are done so well that it goes back arround to being amazing

Alot of things are limited and simple (like the exploration) but in a good way. The game focuses on the best aspects of its simple gameplay loop.

Yeah thats the word to describe this game. Focused.

but I will elaborate on that later when talking about the usual gameplay. Lets start with the characters.

Okay, I thought I was walking into another landmine like Persona 4 but my god im so glad that wasnt the case

(might as well rip the bandaid in case I mention P4 again- I dont like Persona 4, it shows alot of potencial on the gameplay dept. with the "one more" system, the randomly generated dungeons and the calendar system. so much so that I am exited to play P3FES later this december but the writting and characters in 4 really... REALLY sucked dick. it was terrible.)

A huge chunk of the characters are fantastic and present such unique perspective of the usual law, chaos neutral allignments.

For Example:

Atsuro!

Atsuro is a loveable dork, every scene he is in is a joy, he is a really likeable character that has alot of chemistry with the rest of the cast

and he presents one of favorite representations of chaos in the entire series. A middle point between chaos and neutral, a world where demons are used for the benefit of humanity.

Yuzu, is a character that I was expecting to hate but she grew on me as the game went on! She is lovely! While yes her ending is kinda just... leaving but its an interesting take on neutral, refusing the influence of demons and the messages of angels to escape and live for another day even if it is cowardly and is ultimately forsaking humanity.

Keisuke is a character im not too much of a fan of after him being a fucking idiot with Yama but I like the overly extreme aproach to law and judgement he shows.

DeSu strays away from extremes like SMT4 to provide the upsides and downsides of every allignment, the beautiful middle points. This is one of the only games where all allignments are equal and that is an insane achievement.

On the topic of characters and allignements

Alot of characters go so damm well together and present such interesting scenarios like Keisuke and Kaido.

Polar oposites clashing, one seeking extreme judgement and the other seeking true power and nothing else.

I absolutely love it man. Gin, Haru, Shoji, Amane... NAOYA... N A O Y A MAN... I FUCKING LOVE HIM...

Okok enought screaming. So the characters are good, so much so that they drive the story and the way the game handles allignments seems sublime. what about the story these characters are in

So Kazuya (The Protagonist), Atsuro and Yuzu, three friends, all meet up one day in the Yamanote circle, unfortunately for them, a strange series of events involving demons suddenly starts a lockdown in the whole area locking them in.

Using the power of some strange portable computers that your cousin gave to you; you and your friends have to figure out how to end the lockdown, deal with the demons and evoid as many casualties as possible.

Its simple really simple but its executed well!

Thanks to the great character writing and other aspects like the protagonist being able to see how much time anyone has untill their death, it creates a story that makes you want to see more. How do you save these characters from dying, how will things escalate on the following days and so on. Its so much fun seeing where everything goes.

The setting of a lockdown is also the perfect excuse to limit exploration too!

I did mention previously that the exploration is really limited and simple and I feel its a good time to start elaborating on that and start talking about the general gameplay loop.

So, you have a limited number areas to go to and they are all laid out for you on a simple menu on the bottom screen. The main appeal is choosing where you want to go and who you spend time with, every interaction and conversation takes time (arround 30 in game minutes) and naturally you cant do everything in one go.

The loop consists of deciding who to hang out with as to get more information on the lockdown or just to form strong bond with them (which leads to the different endings), after a certain amount of time a combat scenario is triggered, after overcoming the challenge you can go back to checking arround town.

I like this aproach! Its extremely simple but efective.

While it does completely erase the idea of exploring the yamanote circle, I dont think a 3D hub would add much to begin with and it would only pad out time by having to walk from place to place and having to deal with random encounters often... oh yeah! the combat scenarios!

Hooo boy the combat. Ive been waiting to talk about this for a while. if there is one thing I like as much as the writing in this game is the combat scenarios.

So the combat scenarios are presented in a isometric perspective, utilizing a grid system like most tactical rpgs (Yknow like Front Mission and Final Fantasy Tactics).

Maps usually tend to be very big, which is a small gripe that I have with the game, not a big enought problem to make the game bad but still an issue. It takes a while to get everywhere without Devil Speed (A move that increases your move range) and your atack range is also pretty bad without Chaos Wave (everything has to be right in front of you to hit it which kinda sucks)

for the units that dont have either of those two skills, catching up can take a few more turns than it should.

you could argue this adds to the planing for each battle and that is true! it can be fun to mess arround with the huge map with some magic, like swap and animal leg. That is why I dont see this as a big issue but when you have to switch your teams quite often through the story due to having to to adapt to every fight... there will be those few times where you just dont have any skills to make things to faster which will drag things down a fair bit.

Ok so what about teams/units?

You usually have 3-4 teams on the field at all times. Those being composed of a friend/comp user (Atsuro, Yuzu, Keisuke, Midori, Naoya, etc) and two demons

You cant have one team with more than one comp user nor a team with three demons

It needs a singular comp user in the middle, having the role of the leader. Thats enought to register it as a team.

Enemies work the same way.

You might ask why im explaining how units are formed and that is because its an integral part of combat

The actual combat! so this game uses another variation of press turn... because it woudnt be shin megami tensei without another variation on press turn.

(I say that but I love variations of press turn lmao)

as mentioned previously. three units, middle one is a leader

The main thing that makes that set up unique is that you can choose to make fights easier or harder on the fly.

Fights end instantly as soon as you kill the middle unit/leader but that will give you less exp compared to if you did kill every unit on that team.

So its a balancing act of knowing when to kill everything and when to not do so to maximize exp per characters.

Combat encounters are RUTHLESS in DeSu, they can dish out as much damage as you do and MAN is it tense. Sometimes going for every demon is a death sentence, sometimes its best to just end things fast and survive.

The skill crack system goes along with this great! what is a skill crack you might ask, the skill crack system is the main way you get new spells through the game. You select a stealable skill at the start of the combat scenario and have to kill a specific demon with a specific team you assigned for that demon. Once the specified unit kills the demon with the skill, you obtain that skill permanently and can switch it arround with your other skills.

Having to kill a very specific demon... which is often a demon on the side and not a leader.

sometimes stealing a skill is not worth it as the demon with said skill is way too strong, its best to cut your loses at times and just hope you can steal that skill some other time.

Its a small extra layer to the combat that I apreciate.

So what about that press turn variation huh. Extra Turn.

Extra Turn is simple, you get one more turn after using your turn, you get this by hitting the weakness of the demon or landing a critical hit.

As simple as that is, it helps a ton! several encounters can be ended in one turn if you are well prepared.

You can get your extra turn stolen by any demon with just a critical hit or them hitting your weakness. Its a good variation of press turn! maybe not as good as "One More" from Persona 3-5 or just regular press turn but its still good!

Its really fun! and its nice seeing all your planning pay off after a while

Planning fights is as fun as ever too, made even easier due to the demon auction.

You cant recruit demons mid combat scenario, just buy them at the auction.

Save up some cash, buy some demons, fuse those demons to create a really strong demon. normal megaten things. its as fun as ever, just you need to buy every demon

I would like to aknowledge the lack of a compendium... that was added in overclocked (I played the original version if that wasnt clear)

It wasnt unmanageable or anything mind you, I have beaten SMT1 so its not like im not used to this but its omision is strange.

So what about skills? the amount of magic skills here is smaller than the usual lineup. Light Magic and Dark magic has been completely omited

(there are a few instant kill spells but they are based arround if your character has a certain status effect like paralisis and so on)

Leaving only Fire, Wind, Ice, Thunder, Curse (for status effects) and Neutral as the only types of damage arround.

even then the amount of skills those types have is way smaller than usual which most likely was for balance.

Considering the freedom you have when building your leaders, I dont mind the smaller amount of spells, its less overwhelming.

Due to how flexible are the tools the game gives you in order to create your team, overcoming hard fight with better planing is so satisfying, I found myself frustrated several times only to be hit with so much bliss as soon as I beat a boss with a revamped team, its so damm satisfying.

Man I could keep going and going and going on about this game in more detail, I could go on with the magnetite system, how certain spells can break the late game and so on... but I feel its best you try it out for yourself.

I am trying my best to evoid mayor spoilers, there is... alot in this game for as simple as it is. Its fantastic

My only suggestion to ends things off is to turn on the ability to skip text by holding L + R, it makes retrying scenarios much faster (you will get your ass kicked).

The art is good, the CG backgrounds have held up really nicely, the gameplay is fun, the characters are great, the story is great, the soundtrack is good! (even if it gets tiresome by the end... yknow its the SMT1 problem where the music gets repeated often)

Devil Survivor is one hell of an RPG and trully one of the best in the entire series. I am glad I went ahead and played it

hmmm. kindasorta? i was surprised more than like 2 people read sotm (not that i thought it was bad, more that i wasn't sure there were actually people out there who gave a shit about kon outside of shipping contexts skdfjds).

but also i truly did not know what response to expect for "notes on divinity" so in that sense it surprised me but in the "i really don't know what i expected" way. and then all the comments were like "wow you're really good at writing tenderness and intimacy and them being in love!" and i was just like yeah okay that is basically what i shouldve seen coming. i dont need to write porn to get this thats just my general basic wheelhouse. no idea if it was even hot or sexy or whatever but by GOD was it tender. which is. like. yeah i cant not write tenderness. i dont know what i expected. sdlkjflkds

21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why?

YEAH. UGH. a few times, but most notably in ch8 of sotm there was GONNA be a dick & kon reprise except no matter how many times i tried to fix it up, it just kept sounding too much like a therapy conversation and that was not the vibe i wanted. so i chunked the entire thing. i mean it's still in a word doc of my discarded stuff from sotm bc i don't delete scenes, i just move them to the discards doc, but yknow. it didn't make the final cut.

writing updates for this week :] (04/14/2024)

this week's writing is largely comprised of thoughts, brainstorms, and a few revisions to chapters 9 & 10.

here's a snippet from the upcoming ch 9 "boss babysitter"

in total, i wrote over 5600 words on the document!!

as i wrap up book 1, ive been thinking a lot about the structures of books 2 and 3. timing is key to me bc this is slowburn after all. but aaaaaaa its just as painful (/pos) to write slowburn as it is to read it....

ive also been thinking about zekes journey up to heart hollow, pa. what he's seen, where he's been, what brought him to the resort, yadda yadda yadda.... and so my brain continues to flesh out things that will probably never be brought up in the main narrative

ive been deeply considering cherry and zeke's friendship. theres a pretty pivotal chapter in book 2 that touches on this, and i want to make sure i grasp it right. i wrote a big dialogue chunk down in my notebook.... i cant wait to write this episode !!! its been part of my arc list since the very beginning. eeeeek

aaughh ive been laboring over chapter 11's details. lots of research, lots of planning. there are....... so many moving pieces. im a little intimidated but i think itll be an excellent challenge. some stuff abt lewis gets dropped this chapter. thats all ill say.

added and tweaked chapter 10 a lot. this is the one thats been killing me... its going to end up being longer than ch9. fuck me for writing 30+ page chapters ig. (again.... slowburn is so painful but good god that slow dopamine release is therapeutic asf)

made some final revisions to ch9 "boss babysitter". i think i understand now why ive been so hesitant on posting it; a few more things needed to be added before the books finale..... i........ dont mean to cause alarm, but as soon as im done drawing the promotional artwork............ i think im ready to post it.

thats all for the week. monday starts tomorrow and i only have one task i have to accomplish. will probably work on ch10 and finish up the promo comic for ch9 "boss babysitter" :]

i also write and i know exactly what you’re talking about, sometimes i’ll come up with the most gut wrenchingly good chunk of writing in my head or i’ll verbally say it out loud and once i go to type it it’s GONE!! like i know the plot but the sentence structure is just not there and it’s so frustrating

YES. OH MY GOD YES. thats exactly what i mean. the words just seem so jumbled once i put them on paper, it’s not the same. and nobody else will know just how fucking tasty what i was writing could’ve been because i can’t put it into words, it just guts me.

its 3am and someone just set off two fireworks directly outside my home so hi andy good morning lets talk dayshift

so i use grammarly and basic spelling correct to edit, right? what yall dont see, that i do, is before every chapter i plug everything into the text box and let grammarly go at it - usually this ends up with.... id say the average number of corrections it suggests is around 70. and every time, i go thru the whole thing checking every correction because man, grammarly does NOT know how real people talk. theres a certain cadence to verbal speech yknow? something i try to emulate in my regular texting style, but in a properly formatted story its different (not harder or easier, different) because while you cant capitalize random words for Emphasis, you CAN do a whole bunch of other stuff: dashes, sentence breaks, i especially like to split a chunk of dialogue in half with a described action. maybe not every misspelling is intentional, but all the words are.

and some of the stuff i thought about is NEVER - or at least UNLIKELY to be - coming up in the story!! for instance, i dont do things like flashbacks. what you see of the characters background and experiences either comes from what they say or what their actions imply. sunbite gives the benefit of internal dialogue and memory, but its a yn fic so even thats spotty sometimes.

people who just read the fic would Never Know that sunbites blood relation father only ever saw them once. and i also dont include things that wouldnt be apparent to the characters- it has no effect on them, how would they ever know? how would sunbite ever know that they have a little sibling, possibly more than one? how would you ever know that obi's "heirlooms" from his grandmother included another ring passed down maternally for the last five generations with a decent sized sapphire on it? would you know that sunbite loves dogs because their first imaginary friend was one, and they named him Lucky? this stuff has no effect of them now, practically forgotten about. but its there cause i say it is.

storytelling is fucking Wild, dude. of course i took some inspiration from bamsara and naffeclipse (god damn at this point what dca writer hasnt a little bit) but also im pretty proud of my 'do no harm, take no shit' yn. it was always gonna be them, theyre the only person for the job in my mind. the way ive structured things and the way things are going to go, only people with that attitude - and that unkillable amount of hope and love - would be able to make it all the way through. maybe thats not the easiest character to project onto, but hey, its more a personal thing. dayshift go figure is, among other things, a power fantasy.

anyway, took the oppurtunity to ramble, its 3am. tldr; i put a lot of thought into word usage and character history, and most of those thoughts arent important to anyone but me.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

okay firstly, this episode was pretty interesting! it was a bit shorter than the previous episodes but still something substantial. i'm nevertheless intrigued and still curious as to how things will develop.

but more importantly, COLIN!!!!! i know he was in episode 3 but i miss him already. it's interesting though that sam notes how weird colin's been acting lately. he is very intentionally going analogue. and to be honest i can't really blame him. he knows that the programs inside the computers are watching them, and will use practically anything digital to connect from one aspect to another and spy on people (remember how they managed to connect to alice's phone in the first episode??? literally no device is safe.) him doing literally everything he can to distance himself from the electronics is not going unnoticed. while we're on the topic of IT's, i'm wondering why gwen was so interested in them all of a sudden. does it have to do with the video she saw? could klaus be the german IT guy? what happened to him? perhaps he knew too much, and it was getting in the way of his work. and the fact he's german. could he be the one who wrote the code for the system? it doesn't explain things, but it definitely something to keep in mind. it seems like gwen is onto something, and she's starting her own little investigation.

i am also keeping an eye on sam. he's a bit better at this than jon, in the sense that he's not being overtly obsessive about it Yet, but something is up with him. he's a bit irrate and making incredibly bad decisions, but to be honest, who doesn't when they're in a bad mood? i do appreciate him trying to bring up colin's current state and offering some kind of solution, rather than pushing him away. i think he genuinely wants to help.

also alice is so confused. i feel so bad for her. "why is everyone acting so weird?" honestly i do not blame you. alice get behind me everybody is going to make you look like the weird suspicious person for trying to stay sane.

sorry for the delay guys!!!! the pain is bearable but i've just been having a hard time getting my thoughts together. this episode has given me a lot but also not very much. overall, i think everybody is acting weird and i know this is bad because my guys :( my little sillies. anyways, that's all for now! goodbye!

oh god it must be trippy as shit for kuroaku/ingo

cause hes both people, the implanted memories dont fade, the old ones just come back. he still responds to kuroaku. thats part of him. thats still him. and he still misses the leader, and all his friends there, and akari. he knows it was wrong, but sometimes he still wants to go back.

I do wonder about this!! There's a lot of different ideas rattling around my head as to what a post-team chaos Ingo could look like!!

The ideal reality is one where he slowly starts to recover his previous self- it's a long and drawn out process, one that they probably could make faster by use of a psychic Pokemon of their own, but at this point... that's risky. They don't want to chance damaging Ingo's psyche anymore, even if the slow drawn out process of him returning to himself is painful to watch. But eventually, he returns to a point where he's mostly his old self, even if there are new parts mixed in that didn't fade entirely. He's not cruel like Kuroaku was, but takes to expressing his negative thoughts more freely than before, though he generally tries to coach his words into something less biting. He recognizes his friends and family again, starts responding to his name again... but he and Dawn always still call each other Akari and Kuro.

He's also deeply haunted by guilt for the rest of his life, but his friends and family's forgiveness go a long way to helping him move on in spite of it. He can't really wear black anymore, so he switches to wearing a lot of purples instead. It takes him awhile to face the Pokemon he gained during his time as Kuroaku head on, but he can't abandon them, and they slowly get to know their trainer's true self even though he's aware they are probably some of the few who miss him as they once knew him.

There's probably also a reality where Kuroaku and Akari flee after Team Chaos is defeated. Their own plans to rewrite reality to make themselves real failed too, so they instead choose to disappear. They're afraid of disappearing into their old selves, and they know it will happen if they stay. So they hide, living as uncle and niece in a remote town somewhere (maybe the scarlet/violet region?).

They find their own version of recovery there. There memories are still a fragmented mess of truth and lies, but they find a balance between them. They have each other- a tiny little family where they both have the unique experience of being themselves, even though themselves did not previously exist. They feel guilt for leaving their old loved ones behind as their old memories slowly start to mix in with the fake, and sometimes they send letters- taking care that they're not traced back to them. They don't know if they ever read them or not. It doesn't really matter.

Their old personalities emerge more, but they're left with good chunks of their new ones too. Kuro is still a cold man on the surface with a sharp tongue, but his kindness shows through his actions. There's no Pokecenter in town, so the kids living there take their injured Pokemon to Kuro, who always knows how to treat them. His advice is biting, and sometimes phrased in mean ways- but he's right, and it's always helpful. His niece Akari is friendly enough compared to her uncle, but she's still merciless in battle, and still uses underhanded tactics and loves to trash talk. But she'll still heal up your Pokemon afterwards- and if you do manage to beat her, she just laughs it off. Damn. You got her good!

They gradually realize that their actions while in Team Chaos were wrong, and that maybe this reality is... okay, actually. As long as they have each other, and their Pokemon, that's all that matters.

ive been made aware that i have strong opinions on my personal ranking of percy jackson characters so im making a post about it. bc thats what we do here on tungle.hell. experiencing brain worms? spread the word. @garecc i invite you to include your own brain worms here

for those who may not know, which i expect is most of my followers here, Travis (garecc) and i go way back to the days of a trials of apollo discord server that has since crumbled under the weight of various discourse and does not exist at this time. so if anyone understands pjo brain rot, its him.

ONTO THE RANKING. ill be focusing on main characters bc if i include side characters we'll be here all day and Sally Jackson would be every character in this top 5.

1. Hazel Levesque. Deserves better in the eyes of fandom. Gained pretty good control over the mist within one book. Has a cool magic horse. Similar tragic backstory to Nico, but not sulking about it. No shame in sulking, but its cool to see someone go through bad shit and come out still feeling mostly okay.

2. Will Solace. Unfortunately for me, I haven't finished the trials of apollo series yet, so i dont know THAT much about Will as he's primarily a background character. But Apollo kids and medics both get my utmost respect and appreciation, always. and he's a little bit of a sarcastic little shit, but the kind where people dont get annoyed with you bc its almost always funny and lighthearted. i know from hearing people talk about tsats that he's also a Sad Boy (which is to be expected as a demigod, tragedy physically cannot leave you alone.), and im excited to read about someone with my personality go through a mental breakdown :D!

3. Frank Zhang. Listen to me. How can he not be this high up. I don't even know where to begin with this guy, he's so gods damned cool. He's just such a good character and a good dude too! I'd love to be his friend. What a sweetheart, iirc he was the only person at camp jupiter who wasnt freaked out by Nico? he's so nice. children of Ares/Mars are usually mean, and he's so nice. i love him so much. also his life force is connected to a chunk of wood, which is kinda neat. he's a legacy of poseidon. he's canadian. im pretty sure his first name is Westernized bc his grandma calls him Fai, my last name was westernized when my great grandparents came over so i sort of get it though not nearly to the same degree. I ALMOST FORGOT HE CAN SHAPESHIFT!!! DUDE what a cool guy. we gotta move on, i gotta cut myself off. give him more attention in your fan works

4. Nico di Angelo. obviously a fan favorite, but im talking canon Nico here. im not talking about an uwu soft emo boi. im talkin about a sarcastic, pessimistic, deeply insecure little dude. listen, im not gonna talk about the things i love about nico because its been said a million times. its nothing new. im just gonna say that i love reading about characters that go through awful awful trauma and still overcome and find joy on the other side.

5. Rachel Elizabeth Dare. so my impulse is to put Leo here bc i adored him when i first read HoO. and if i didnt really think about it, i wouldve put him. but... Rachel!! how can you not love her! a mortal lady who can see through the mist, she fought with a hairbrush, she's the liveliest and loveliest oracle of delphi camp halfblood has ever and will ever know, she’s from money and hates it, she's an activist, an artist, way more helpful than the last oracle for sure. the mummy in the attic just left you to fend for yourself, Rachel will at least try to help you interpret what a prophecy means. she's blunt and talks a mile a minute, i love seeing my "flaws" represented positively in media.

honorable mentions: Leo Valdez of course, easily my number 6 spot. Apollo/Lester, we love seeing immense character development. Grover Underwood, probably the first time i ever had a definitive favorite character. Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, romance would be dead and we wouldnt have a series without them.
