RIP to my friend nixie. they stopped watching SPN after season 11. and asked about the finale. i wanted to immortalize what i sent (which includes a recap of seasons 12-15 so they would Understand.) so. read on if you wish, this monstrosity is going under the cut lol
so. in season 12 lucifer possesses the president of the united states (dont worry about it) & impregnates one of the president's staff members who was banging the president behind closed doors, republican Kelly Kline. through a series of events, cas winds up being the Adoptive Father. kid is born, but he had opened a rift to a different alternate universe the show so eloquently named 'apocalypse world'. it is a world where sam & dean were never born. through Another series of events, team free will PLUS mary winchester (yeah shes back from the dead, amara brought her back, dont worry about it lol) & cas tries to kill lucifer. he thinks he did, comes back through , and hes like there for .02 seconds before lucifer pops through & stabs cas. cas dies. mary beats up lucifer with angel brass knuckles or whatever & they fall through the rift & it closes. they are trapped there. at this exact moment, jack kline (kelly kline & lucifer/mr. president's baby) is being born. sam runs into the house to Check On That. dean however, falls to his knees next to cas's body & looks up desperately to the sky. (the cw said Not to read into this. it means Nothing. destiel who?!) also kelly died in child birth. bc spn Hates women.
thats the end of season 12.
season 13, we have jack. he popped out a fully fledged like. 19? 20? 21 year old?? bc his mom said he would have to Grow Up Fast. dean wraps cas's body in a curtain. alone. and is like crying & devastated. the bois and jack burn cas's body & dean looks like he wants to off himself (& he tries to in like. the next episode but Death brings him back). (also sorry im sooo bad at summary lol). we have the Widower Arc where dean bargains with a silent god to bring back cas, but Nothing. and dean is just fucking depressed as all shit. suddenly! cas is back!! BECAUSE jack heard dean yelling at sam about how its jacks fault cas is dead bc when jack was a fetus he showed cas a Vision of how he could bring Paradise On Earth if they allowed him to live (they wanted to kill him bc. like. Spawn Of Satan & all that). so jack uses his Powers™️ & brings cas back from the dead! yay!! a lot of other shit happens & the Empty (which is like. the Entity that encases all the angels & demons when they die, & where cas was when he was dead) Does Not Like that cas escaped. so, it wants to take jack to get back at cas. cas is like 'no fuck off thats my son lets make a deal. take me back instead' & the empty is like 'ok bitch 2 can play that game. i WILL take you. but ONLY when you experience a Moment Of True Happiness™️'. & cas is like 'bet.' bc! hes a depressed mf & figures it would take a Miracle to make him Truly Happy. (pls keep this in mind, its a surprise tool for later). ummm so yeah season 13.
season 14 had like. ANOTHER fucking michael/lucifer arc but it was Stupid. dean said yes to michael like the angels wanted in season fucking 4 & 5. & i dont Totally remember the plot but like. dean has michael trapped in a box in his mind & wants them to?? fucking?? put him in a warded coffin & chunk it in the ocean?? so michael will never hurt the world again?? also--its like. AU michael. and also mary is okay, & we get AU bobby & AU charlie & a lot of shit happens. anyway.
season 15: we get the Divorcr Arc™️!! dean & cas fight!! bc guess what? jack accidentally killed mary!! (yes! she died AGAIN!!) bc! he didnt know how to control his powers! & dean blames cas! so cas Leaves in a big dramatic breakup scene. we also find out that god (aka chuck) has been like. controlling Everything?? & free will Doesnt Exist?? & dean has a crisis & we get cas saying 'dean, you asked what about all of this is real. We Are.' (which we were apparently sooo crazy to read into!!) & also!? chuck brings back ALL the monsters salmon dean ever killed?? and rowena sacrifices herself to save the world! but! dont worry! she is now thenQueen Of Hell™️ & fucking THRIVING! anyway, season progresses, we get purgatory 2.0 and dean & cas are separated & dean lITERALLY GETS DOWN ON HIS OLD MAN KNEES TO PRAY TO CAS AND APOLOGIZE AND SAY HE FORGIVES HIM!! & then. a bit later. chuck starts poofing away Everyone On Earth bc he wants to destroy the multiverse. and also? death wants to kill dean i forget why. oh yeah! i think he stole her Death Book or whatever to try and see how to kill god. anyway. we have episode 15x18. Thee Episode of All Time. it starts with AU charlie and her gf. they are making eggs and vibing and all of a sudden her gf goes Poof. then sams gf Eileen goes Poof. so they round up as many friends as they can & put them in a warded place but they all go Poof. so sam is with the friends when this happens & also jack. and dean & cas have gone to the bunker to Fight Death. and. so. get ready for this. death shows up. she (yeah billie the reaper became death btw. long story) she starts to like. squeeze deans heart to kill him with magic. cas helps dean run through the bunker away from her. they get to the dungeon. death is literally banging on the door which cas had cut his palm to ward with a sigil of his blood with a knife he pulled from deans back pocket. (again: he cut his palm--another Surprise Tool For Later). deans like 'im so sorry man, we should have stayed with sam. shes gonna get in here, and shes gonna kill you, then shes gonna kill me' & cas is like 'well theres one thing strong enough to stop her' & he starts telling dean about the deal he made to save jack (yep, he never told him). and he says 'i always wondered what would break that curse. but i think i know now' & he. he fucking. he starts a speech about how he knows how dean sees himself, as a killer, a monster, daddys blunt instrument driven by anger, just like his enemies see him. BUT cas says dean is Not that. he says dean is 'the most caring man, the most loving man on earth' & deans like freaking out & is like 'why are you telling me all this? why does this sound like a goodbye??' & cas says, crying, but smiling, 'because it is' & then!! cas!! says !! 'i love you' !!!!!!!!! &&&&& death breaks down the door!! && the empty is materializing behind dean! & dean says 'dont do this cas!' & cas grabs deans LEFT SHOULDER WITH HIS BLOODY PALM! & says 'goodbye dean' & shoves him out of the way!! & the empty grabs cas!! && death!! & takes them away!!!!!! && dean is like!! freaking the fuck out sitting on the flooor with tears in his eyes!! && we cut to like. a bit later. hes Still there, crying, head in his hands, as his phone rings on the floor--its sam. end of the world, sam is calling, & he doesnt answer. we end the episode to deans crying. LIKE FUCK!!!!
15x19: they defeat god. jack like. absorbed him?? & he became god?? & then fucked off to do godly duties!? and did Not bring cas back????
(there are Theories that Chuck Won &thats why the next episode is so fucked and i Have To Agree)
15x20: okok. i fucking HATE THIS FUCKINGEPISDORNFMDNFNDNFNDBDND
anyway. so. cas is Not in the episode. at All. we have sam & dean? driving??? & there are like at LEAST 2 very Bad montages of random scenes that dont even make sense. sam & dean go to a pie eating festival. sam shoves pie in deans face. they Thengo on a case. its vampires. theres a vamp from like. season 2?? who was a minor charachter?? but they brought her back?? why??? idk. and. so. dean gets impaled on a rusty rebar nail during the fight scene in thr barn. he gives sam a long ass speech. they ?? touch foreheads for some reason??? && dean wont let sam get help??? & sam is like 'if cas were here...' & deans like 'yeah well he isnt.' like??? && then deAN FUCKING DIES??? && GOES TO HEAVEN??? && BOBBY IS THERE??? AND APPARENLY FUCKING ABUSIVE ASS JOHN LIVES DOWN THE ROAD??? && dean asks bobby 'so jack did all this?' (as in revamping heaven so people can be all together instead of separate like it used to be) & bobbys like 'well, cas helped' & then dean smiles, then goes?? & rides his car!?? bc his car is in heaven????? && we just see him driving interspersed with clips of sam on earth, burning deans body, and grieving dean, and later sam gets a blurry wife, we dont see who she is, and he has a son?? and he named him dean!? whixh we know bc the kid has on overalls that say 'dean' on them??? & then sam gets old and sits in the impala & cries while wearing a wig that looks like its from fucking party city?? then sam is on his death bed and his son is there?? && theres all these pictures around him of himsefl and dean & mary & john but?? no wife!? ans also!!? noone else like their friends?? & then sam dies & carry on my wayward son plays for like the second time in the episode. and we see dean on a bridge in heaven, he finally stopped driving & is staring off into the distance. and then he hears something behind him & smiles & we all thought 'CAS???' but NO its fuckingSAM somehow young again like whendean died?? & theylike. hug. and then it pans out & all the cast & crew are there?? and they say thank you to us for watching?? and then ?? its over?????? like Awhta thWHAT THE FUCK

Happy friendly Friday, Cal!
This is related to your Jack-as-caretaker-protector ramblings. In 13x20 Unfinished Business, we get this little nugget from a very green, overconfident Jack and Mary about protecting people.
Tumblr media
MARY: I don't know how we'll keep everybody safe. On Jack-- that weighs on him. These are HIS people. Then--
Interestingly, not too long after this, Jack comes to a very Cas-like conclusion. Once the refugees are safe with Sam, Dean, and Cas and on their way to the rift, Jack puts on his little backpack and tries to sneak away to confront AU Michael on his own.
///
There's also this line from 13x20 that speaks to Jack's drive to keep the group safe. (He's learning a lot of this from Mary! She's his vizier and guidepost when it comes to learning how to fight for others.) Although Jack is a mirror to Sam's impatience in 13x21 Beat the Devil, his focus is still very much on the idea of safety, even if his way of going about it is foolish and arrogant.
Tumblr media
JACK: I'll keep us safe. I promise.
///
Anyway, I think there's an obvious callback both to what Sam says about Dean in 13x02 re:protecting people and what Dean says to Death in 15x18:
13x02 The Rising Son:
JACK: Why would he be afraid? SAM: Because Dean feels like it’s his job to protect everyone.
15x18 Despair:
DEAN: It's over. Call it off. Stop killing my people! BILLIE: (panting with effort and pain) I didn't hurt your friends. DEAN: What? BILLIE: (laughs) You're in the wrong place, Dean.
Also, in the beginning of 15x18, we got this:
JACK: (crying) God, The Empty, Billie... Everyone's so mad at us, and I don't have my powers. There's nothing I can do to protect us. Castiel looks away, nodding. He knows Jack is right. JACK: I'm scared, Cas. CAS: I know. Me, too.
///
But back to season 13. There's Mary, who feels so drawn to helping the people in 13x22 Exodus that she wants to stay in the AU world! I think Jack definitely inherited her value system a little bit, too.
MARY: I'm not going back...I fought beside these people. I respect them. I respect their cause. You can’t expect me to just abandon them.
///
Lastly, I think we've talked a little bit about the Dark!Kaia and Jack parallel, but I think of Kaia's line in 14x09 The Spear to Dean and Cas (who are both obvious, well-established family protectors).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DARK KAIA: You have people you feel bound to protect-- to save. So do I.
///

Anyhoo, the question! I know that the main characters rotate with who's battening down to protect large groups versus who's committing to protecting small, close-knit family units, but I do think these lines speak to some of Jack's inner drives to protect everyone. This strong protector-drive is why he overreacts to the poor gas station worker and nearly chokes him to death after Maggie is murdered.
I feel like Jack tries to embody Dean's batten-down-the-hatches caretaking model, "everyone work together to keep everyone safe," and Cas's lone wolf protector model, "go out there on your own if you have to in order to keep threats away." I'm not leaving Sam out, but although Jack is shown to be very observant and good at thinking on his feet when it comes to casework, when he's backed into a corner, he doesn't seem to naturally reach for Sam's problem-solving mode the same way he does the other two. Sam's model is to be rigorously academic and consult the lore to an obsessive degree. Sam wants to be the man with the (sometimes balls-to-the-wall-insane) plan.
I think that's why in Ouroboros, Dean-Cas-Jack hilariously bail on research to go eat in a diner, and they leave the fussy details to Sam and Rowena. I think characters like Patience Turner and even Harper Sayles would probably hunker with Sam and Rowena and (as Cas so dryly puts it in Ouroboros) "their many, many books."
But I think Jack prefers to do his "book reading and hunting homework" ahead of time, not so much during. During the case, he seems like he prefers to be hands-on: he studiously assess the situation in front of him. Examples: noticing Athena's boyfriend in a photo, checking out Harper's apartment in a hands-on manner, noticing details about the cursed girl and the witch, etc.
:-)
hi shal!!! ooh, this is a juicy one! you never disappoint 🫶🫶
I think Jack’s need to overprotect is, shockingly, rooted in his own self fear, and a product of the many complexes sam and dean accidentally gave him—this one, particularly, is the savior complex sam instilled with his 13x02 line “We need to protect you, but we might also need to protect others from you.” It’s a confusing and upsetting dichotomy to process, and to me it echoes back to Sam’s demon blood arc when he felt that saving as many people as he could on various cases would keep him good; if you can find a way to be The Savior, then you can avoid becoming The Monster. and of course, after Sam and Jack’s subsequent falters into becoming The Monster in their own respective arcs, they strive to be The Savior again as a way to amend for being The Monster. It’s a continuation of their shared complex (another vicious cog in the abuse machine), and it only continues further and further with every falter; every act of monstrousness has to be amended with an act of saving, whether that’s to save your own soul or to apologize or both.
It’s also a good addition to the idea that Jack attaches their sense of identity into fulfilling roles and purposes; they don’t want to be what they think they truly are, they’re scared to death of who they are and everybody else hates him for it anyways, so he might as well just be what everyone wants and soak up the affection–even if it’s conditional (not to mention the added bonus of further distancing himself from Lucifer in the process). That brings me back to Sam and his many complexes.
// I don’t mean to give Sam so much flack for his parental shortcomings, but at the same time I don’t think he’s given enough flack for them, so viva la vida, baby! Sam sucks at being a dad too!
This time, it’s the can-opener complex: the one where having a purpose (opening a rift to save Mary) and being useful (digging up graves) are the grounds for basic respect and humanity, rather than them already being inherent to Jack as a living person. Ergo, Jack feels that he has to be useful to be considered “good” or loved, and that coincides perfectly with his savior complex, because now he has a role to play and a purpose to justify him existing! And yet again, this is made even worse with Jack’s personal failings and Acts Of Monstrousness, especially the ones done while he’s soulless. By this point in time, he’s literally a guilt-stricken post-psychotic fully jaded shell of a half-human, completely traumatized and utterly despaired over the sheer destruction he continuously wrought despite his intentions, and the capacity for violence he’s always held as an innate part of what makes him a monster / like Lucifer.
While still fighting to be useful as a bomb, Jack has completely lost faith in the idea that he can be Good or a Savior anymore—even though his S15 sacrifice was outwardly meant to save the world, it was really just an act of suicide and amendment for his monstrousness. Even their final purpose as a literal living weapon is just the begrudging acceptance of his true nature; he’s a monster, a weapon, something that will forever hurt and destroy the world around him as is innate to him. So, why not make some scrap of good on himself and just direct the blast towards someone who deserves it?

Danny Phantom Randomness (Desolation)
I just had an interesting thought. To give you a bit of context, in my fanfic “Nowhere To Run” I had Vlad and Danny confront a lot of their personal issues with one another, especially Vlad after he went too far with the cloning incident. Danny’s a tough kid but everyone has their limits as far as how much they’re willing to put up with.
Tumblr media
So here’s my thought, what if after the events of TUE Danny becomes extra paranoid of losing his friends and family? For example, when Vlad tries to make Jazz and Danny fight he straight up refuses to instead of putting on an act. This obviously confuses Vlad who has never seen Danny like that and Jazz for once is at a loss for what to do since Vlad injected her with nanobots and legit threatened to “waste her” if she betrayed him, meaning she probably HAS to fight Danny.
Danny seriously loses his cool and goes straight to attacking Vlad so violently to make him turn off the nanobots and ghost shield that for the first time he’s getting a small taste of exactly what Danny’s capable of once he stops holding back. This makes Vlad stop to think about what could have possibly made Danny react like that. Was this just his usual teen angst and raging hormones, or the result of one too many ghost fights giving Danny some serious emotional trauma?
Skipping forward to when Vlad infects Sam and Tucker with ecto-acne, Danny loses it again and doesn’t even try to play nice in front of his parents. He grabs Vlad by the collar of his shirt and threatens Vlad, saying that if ANYTHING happens to them...he’ll kill him. Vlad of course just writes it off as Danny being dramatic since he knows he’ll save them all anyway. And this time, Danny doesn’t screw up the timeline to make sure Vlad doesn’t get his ghost powers since he’s already seen the damage something like that can do.
What finally makes Danny snap is when Vlad kidnaps and tortures him to get a mid-morph sample. He’s had enough. And so, one day Danny goes to confront Vlad and it goes something like this:
After Danny calls Vlad out on how evil he’s become, like a spoiled brat Vlad tries to excuse his actions with the whole “Jack Fenton ruined my life” bit to which Danny responds coldly. “No he didn’t Vlad. It was an accident but you CHOSE to use your powers for selfish reasons. You chose to be my enemy. We could have been friends at least, but no.
“The truth is, Vlad, you don’t know HOW to love anyone. If you did, you wouldn’t do things like this. You wouldn’t threaten the lives of my friends and family or reject someone who genuinely loved you! Dani LOVED you, and you threw that all away because of your stupid obsession with the perfect half-ghost son. Well news flash Vlad, I’ve SEEN how it ends once you get what you think you want...
“In a timeline where I actually lost everything and had to come live with you, you destroyed that too. You destroyed what was left of me and the entire world paid the price for your selfishness. You think my dad ruined your life but that’s where you’re wrong, you did that. You destroy everything you touch which means...the only way to make sure you never turn me into that monster is to become it on my own terms so that I’m the only one who has to live with the guilt. Because I’d rather die a hero...then live long enough to see myself become a worse villain than you.”
After that, Danny goes all out and stops pulling his punches. They duke it out in a seriously intense battle and after Danny comes out on top, but only just, Danny tells Vlad that if he EVER crosses the line again it’s over. No second chances. No mercy. Because Vlad was slowly turning into a real monster, not just some cartoon villain and Danny’s not willing to risk the fate of the world or the safety of his friends and family on sparing the life of a self-centered jerk who keeps saying all he wants is love but then ends up doing things to make Danny hate him more and more as time passes.
So, Vlad has a choice to make.
He can either keep going on like this, pushing Danny away completely.
Or, Vlad can stop and take a long hard look at his life and realize Danny’s right. This has to end before its too late and any chance they might have to become anything more than enemies is gone forever.
Even if Vlad can’t be Danny’s father...he can at least become a mentor which is better than nothing and means he won’t be alone anymore. Then the two of them can have at least one person around who understands them better than anyone else in their lives. Heck, even agreeing to a truce would be a huge improvement...
Anyways, just had to get this idea out of my system. Hope you liked it!

Top 5 Dean relationships (including platonic/familial) <3
ok i'm going completely platonic/familial with this one bc the casgirl in me gets a little jelly if i think abt his other romantic relationships TOO much like they're good great even ! but. cas...djfkdk ok anyways
dean + jo - been thinking abt them A LOT lately ever since my mutual gender envy post and just. yeah they're gender buddies<3 they have a weird dynamic that they don't really understand for a long long time (both thinking they have crushes on each other but then thinking no that's weird and not right but still not able to fully understand what they're feeling) and then once they doo get it they just chill together like sleepover hangouts where they get high and talk abt their gender + sexuality feels and jo's like "i love boobs" and dean's like "god i wish i had tits" and jo's like "you dooo ur tits are great !" and then they just giggle and jo paints deans nails and dean buzzes jo's head<3
dean + bobby - THAT'S HIS DAD !!!!! HIS REAL DAD !!! like bobby is so important "you're the closest thing i have to a father" yeah! bobby's not perfect and he's also Not Great at talking abt things but he's /there/. he's always been there and he's defended dean against john and looked out for him and tried to give him some snapshots of a normal childhood, taking him to the park to play catch instead of shooting guns. that scene where bobby holds dean's face and cries…KILL ME.
dean + jack - DEAN IS A GOOD PARENT the hill i will die on. dean got a lot of things wrong with jack, yes. the guilt eats him alive 24/7. a lot of it was chuck's fault. a lot of it was the ghost of john winchester. a lot of it was just grief and displaced anger. it doesn't /excuse/ his actions but !!!! if he could do it over, if he could do it different, if cas hadn't died i just Know he'd be moving in to play house with cas and take care of that kid, the devil's son or not. so like, i just know that /after/ in the soft epilogue they all get, dean would put the work in to fix his relationship with jack and conciously do everything he can to Not Be John. That's his parenting motto: Don't Be John.
dean + charlie - his bff that he ISN'T in love with (unlike with cas). he gets to be his mega nerdy self with charlie and he doesn't have to worry about /feelings/ or anything. they go on little shopping sprees, have little fashion shows (we all know dean Loves to be put in little outfits), they watch nerd movies and gossip and talk abt their big gay feels. he needs that !! he's never had that before !! she's also the little sister he never knew he wanted and with charlie, for once, he gets to JUST be a brother. they have the sort of sibling bond he never really got to have with sam bc he was always also being a parent, thus making himself fundementally unknowable to sam. like s1 sam? literally does not know a thing abt dean it's crazy. anyways.
dean + mary - HELLO INSANE BRAINWORMS. they are mirrors. they hate each other. they love each other. they can't stand seeing the reflection of themselves in the other. dean also holds onto every similarity with a vicelike grip. his lips are mary his eyes are mary his hair (blonde dean truthing!) he looks in the mirror his whole life and sees her even as he's trying to twist and mold himself into his father. he never can because sam is john's true mirror. he never can because he is alway always going to be his mother's son. and mary, god mary can't look at him because she never wanted this for him. she can't look at him because where is her baby? she can't look at him because all she sees is herself, the hunter, the killer, the woman who could never quite mold herself into a mother. except. well. dean DID do that, and did it better than she ever could. and she resents him for that a little bit, and resents him for putting her on that pedestal, and resents him for asking her to BE a mother. but she also deeply mourns the fact that dean had to take her place, that dean lost so much of his life, his childhood, trying to fill the empty space she left behind. i could go on forever abt this.
ok this reply got SO long but. yeah<3

Ok, I’ve tried and tried and tried to write this fic because I see it so clearly in my mind but it’s just not going no matter what I do. But I don’t want the idea to die with me. The closest this came to being written was exile which was an attempt to bleed out some of the energy of this au.
Anyway, so it starts off vaguely similar to canon only more aggressive. There had been underlying tension between ghosts and humans for a while, the dead jealous/angry at the living for disrespecting them. The successful creation of the Fenton ghost portal (and another halfa) was considered an act of war and so the ghosts responded in kind. So basically all of S1 occurs fairly close to canon except ghost attacks are more violent and have increasingly more consequences as time passes. Also the attacks aren’t just in Amity Park with ghosts becoming a worldwide issue but Amity is a focal point. Regular people know the ghosts hate them though they don’t know why. Phantom is very much a controversial figure as he is a ghost but also clearly is fighting off the more violent ghosts.
One day, not long after the events of Control Freaks, Amity Park wakes up to find three of their own are gone. Danny Fenton, Sam Manson and Tucker Foley are nowhere to be found. There’s a massive manhunt, the parents go on TV and beg for information but they cannot be found. Curiously enough, town hero Phantom was also missing. There’s some evidence they left of their own volition so the Mansons and Foleys eventually relent that the kids fled on their own. The Fentons are 100% certain the kids were stolen/killed by ghosts as a statement. And the fact that Phantom went missing around the same time means he was the one who killed them. Jazz knows Danny was Phantom but had no idea what was going on and knew her parents wouldn’t listen she just, kept quiet and privately tried to piece together what happened.
Three years pass and finally it looks like the Ecto War is coming to a close. Young, naive ghosts attempted to raise Pariah Dark in a bid to win. It went disastrously but Phantom (who was periodically spotted around the world, deep in the worst battles of the war) and group of loyal allies subdued the king. By the law of ghosts, Phantom was named heir apparent and he declared that the fighting would stop. Humans and ghosts would have to negotiate and co-exist in peace. But he’s not king yet, no he needs to be crowned at the place where it began, Amity Park’s Fenton portal (”where it all began” has a double meaning of the beginning of the war but also symbolically where Phantom began as Kings assume the crown where their living life ended to show their abandonment of their first life and the commitment to their second). Amity is NOT happy to hear that their former hero is coming home.
Amity has been through the wringer, ghost attacks got pretty bad. The Fenton’s throw themselves into their work to cancel out the grief, they create a group of ghost hunters nicknamed the Reds (for their red blood, ghosts are nicknamed Greens) to control the threat. Valerie heads the young adult division and is considered one of the best, she drops out of school to devote herself to it full time. Oh also her dad is now the Mayor as most have died or didn’t want the job. There are still people who like Phantom and see him as a hero (a lot of Casper Kids) but it’s generally an unpopular opinion in town. Maddie and Jack are ready to obliterate the ghost that took their son’s life the moment he’s within city limits. It’s a powder keg ready to blow. It all comes to a head when Phantom and his entourage arrive.
First off, Phantom looks very different, much less human looking than when he left. He’s clearly aged like a normal teen but his eyes look much, much older.  His skin is dead white with a blue tinge to it from his ice core and his aura is super cold. His hair is longer and is very misty that kind of swirls around him and his has fangs and claws. When he’s deep in battle or his obsession, his sclera turn black and he looks scary af. His entourage is ghosts who have sworn loyalty to him, who he picked up along the way after battling beside them for 3 years. Fright Knight, Skulker and Frostbite are recognizable allies. They are not happy that their future King is back in Amity (secretly fearing they’ll lose him once more to his human life). J&M have a shot and are going for the kill when they see something that shocks them; Sam and Tucker are in Phantom’s entourage.
There had been whispers that Phantom interacted with humans, that humans were in his inner circle but this is something else together. And so are Sam and Tucker. Sam is Phantom’s General, she is talented and collected and half feral. She used to be a pacifist but the trials of war and understanding that peace sometimes needs to be fought for made her compromise. She’s covered in scars and an extremely talented fighter. She’s missing her right hand up to her forearm, she can form a ‘phantom limb’ (basically borrowing ectoplasm from her future ghost) to do some things with some powers. Tucker is the support, he uses human and ghost tech to organize, weaponize and generally keep things running. He’s covered in homemade tech (shields and weapons and computers) and he rarely removes. Both he and Sam have kinda forgotten how to interact with and really BE human after so long among the dead. They had attempted to conceal themselves but they had forgotten how strong parental love and recognition is. J&M want to know about Danny, the teens don’t know how to respond but assure them he’s alive. Phantom can’t bring himself to look at them.
This is where I start to lose track of things but there will be parallels of Valerie/Maddie vs Sam as female warriors on opposite sides who are willing to go behind, possibly compromising the things important to them, for victory. Tucker will be contrasted against Jack/Jazz as the one making weapons but also generally keeping the human parts of the team mentally/physically afloat. *Severe* PTSD for all three of them. They’re also unnaturally codependent on each other, get super anxious when one of the trio is out of sight and sleep in a big cuddle pile. They will fucking Kill You if you look at one of them wrong. Vlad will be involved, he had been jailed for war crimes but convinced Walker to stage a coup to overthrow Danny and take the crown before he’s actually declared King and is too powerful. Vlad is more unhinged here, more ghost than human (a hint on what could happen to Danny if he’s not careful). He is eventually defeated but he sacrifices his life for ghost power which, in the end, is what makes him able to be beaten.
 There’s lots of ideas on what it means to be live or dead and where the divide really is, is it a heartbeat or it is how you choose to use your existence. On how duty shouldn’t mean you need to give up everything. Because Jack and Maddie believe that Phantom killed their son and, in a way, they’re right. Before they left, the ghost war had gotten so bad and the rumors of Dark being resurrected were going around. Amity attacks were at an all time high, people in their school were being killed just because Danny went there. He realized he had to choose between Fenton or Phantom and he chose to protect the world. He abandoned his human identity and went off to fight in war. Tried to convince Sam and Tucker to stay but they followed him through hell and back. Because Danny spends so much time as Phantom, Fenton is severely neglected. His long hair is cool and floaty as Phantom but is unkempt and stringy, hanging in his face as Fenton. He’s wan and underweight and looks like a walking corpse. He knows his human half will give out soon if he doesn’t give it more attention but he just can’t there’s too much to do, too many people to save.
It would end with Danny being outed to the town, not the world, just the town. Jack and Maddie need to recon with the fact that their boy DID leave of his own choice but only because their failure to protect him (from both the portal and ghosts) made him feel he had to take all this responsibility on his shoulders. Danny also has to recognize that he (and Sam/Tuck) can’t do all this on their own and they can trust and rely on the people around him. Phantom is crowned King but he decides Amity will be his base. The trio eat more, sleep some, catches up on school all the while continuing their duties as King and court. The ghosts also see that Phantom’s humanity isn’t a weakness but a strength and will bring peace to the Earth/Zone so they also take some of the burdens off his shoulder.
Basically I load up heavily with angst at the beginning and end with all the love and comfort imaginable. I just can’t fucking figure out the middle and my motivation will not let me write this shit out. But I can’t let this AU die bc it fucking keeps me up at night.

Jack was the reason Castiel realized he was in love with Dean.
It happened in season 14, episode 2 after this particular discussion:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jack is Castiel's mirror. Jack shows Castiel who he is, because Jack is (as most children are) a reflection of those who raised him. In Jack's case, he's especially a reflection of Cass (Castiel is more a father to him than the others).
Jack, here, is behaving very much like Castiel did in 13x14 (Good Intentions).
In that episode, Castiel basically thinks Jack brought him back (from the Empty) so that he can prepare... to defeat Michael.
Tumblr media
--skip ahead--
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So after this, Dean and Cass were sent on a mission by Donatello and almost die as a result -- they realize they were set up by Donatello. We find out the reason Donatello was trying to get them killed is because he’s soulless and his mind was corrupted by the tablet as a result (souls act as a sort of filter). He thinks he needs to protect the tablet, protect the power and the knowledge, so he’s refusing to tell them what he’s translated (which is the entire thing).
So Sam and Dean are trying to get the info out of Donatello, and Castiel watches from the computer while they do. It doesn’t seem that anyone’s really considered killing Donatello.
Tumblr media
But Donatello, during this, suffocates Dean with his magic.
Tumblr media
AKA
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Cass freaks out, cause of course.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then he wants to DESTROY DONATELLO. Look at this. I love the camera angles, and the zooming up, and Castiel’s little “I’m gonna kill him” face. How dare he do that to Dean?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is literally the moment that Castiel decides, you know what. I’m gonna kill this guy. Yet he kind of plays it off like it’s just because he doesn’t have a soul, this is the KIND thing to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But does this face say “oh, poor guy, we should end his suffering“?
Tumblr media
No. This face says “I am going to destroy you”.
So he says, let’s end his suffering, it’s better if we kill him because if he dies then another prophet comes into being... one that will give them the translation. Sam and Dean are both very against this idea, even if it means it’ll open up the portal and they’ll get their mother and Jack back. And Sam says, no, we don’t need to kill the guy, we just need the spell. So Castiel says “fine” and rushes to go lock himself in the room with Donatello.
Castiel asks if Donatello knows the spell they need. And Donatello confirms that he does, but that Castiel is wasting his time. He didn’t give the spell to Sam and Dean, and he’s not going to give it to Cass either.
Tumblr media
Castiel removes his wings -- I mean, his overcoat, cause he’s gonna do some dastardly deeds and he knows it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it’s back to what I said before. As soon as Donatello used his magic to suffocate Dean, he wanted to destroy the bastard. And he may have other reasons for doing what he’s doing, risking his life, Donatello’s life, but I definitely think he was considering other methods up UNTIL Donatello hurt Dean. (Actually, those “other reasons” are to stop Lucifer and MICHAEL. So that actually relates to Dean, too -- wanting to stop Michael. And “anyone else” I believe IS “Michael”. From the beginning of this episode, Castiel has stated that he feels it’s his duty to stop him, and I don’t doubt that he has fears related to Michael wanting to use this reality’s Dean as a vessel).
So Castiel stays behind while Sam and Dean take Donatello to the hospital.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
--skip ahead--
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the interesting part here, is that Castiel is saying “I will do whatever it takes to stop Michael”, yet when Jack is talking to him in 14x02, Castiel is clearly considering all other options before he considers allowing Dean to die. He’s more focused on saving Dean than the rest of the world, which has always been the thing with Cass (“It was all about saving one man, right?” -- Metatron. And then the thing with the mark of Cain when Castiel says that he’ll “have to watch” Dean destroy the world, rather than “I’ll have to stop you from destroying the world”. Dean always comes first, even above the whole damn world).
So basically when Castiel says “whatever it takes”, it’s not “whatever it takes to save the world”, it’s “whatever it takes to save Dean”.
After all, “Dean Winchester is saved,” the angel uttered as soon as he’d gripped the man tight and raised him from perdition. It’s truly fitting, isn’t it?
So I think that conversation with Jack kind of showed him that, normally he IS on Jack’s side of things... just not when it comes to Dean. Never when it comes to Dean. And why would that be? ....
Tumblr media
I kind of love how Castiel sort of tries to weave his way around admitting it, though (previous to 15x18). He has a tendency to do that sort of thing. I noticed it in 15x03 when he was talking to Belphagor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is absolutely, definitely true -- he’s telling the truth about how Belphegor wearing Jack is affecting him, BUT... Dean being upset with him is also a huge reason that he’s upset. He stated those things about being used because it IS on his mind. The scene just before this one kind of proves that, for me, as well:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ten seconds later...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do definitely think him using Jack’s body is incredibly upsetting but I also think Belphegor is stating a lot of what Castiel believes to be truths. I mean, we have to remember that the writers are doing this on purpose, and why else would they have Belphegor say all this stuff that’s meant to hurt Castiel if it’s not even gonna work (cause it’s not true). Cass is definitely not just angry because of the demon using his son’s body. This is actually the same ep that he “moves on” from Dean.
My point was, anyway, that Cass has this habit of kind of weaving his way around his own truths -- it’s not even that he lies, but he avoids saying or admitting to the most obvious truth which is that he’s in love with Dean.
I know I really branched off, here, but I have ADD so you’re gonna have to deal...  besides I make a lot of valid points, anyway.

yea so i wrote a ficlet for this post bc i couldn’t stop thinking about it. also this really went off the rails bc it has been a phat second since ive written anything so enjoy i guess
Abigail likes Jack Kline. He’s quiet and sweet and doesn’t ask questions when she sometimes doesn’t bring lunch; he just subtly slides over his apple and chips with a smile. Sure, he’s a little odd sometimes (like how he talks like a thesaurus or says hi to everyone in the hallways) but she doesn’t believe he deserves the way the other kids make fun of him behind his back. They whisper about his mysterious and sudden appearance, how he’s been picked up after school by three different men, and his odd fascination with religion. He’s not like the other christian kids who are always trying to recruit kids for their church; he just--really likes Jesus and talks about Him like he knows Him personally.
“My dad saved humanity,” he says constantly. “He’s died a few times but it’s never stuck. The most recent time was by nail but that was a misunderstanding.”
So he’s an odd kid and Abby knows it but she just doesn’t care. Her friends have accepted this but even they are still confused by Jack’s odd behavior. Her friend Martha has history with him and talks about him all the time.
“For the heritage project, he said his mother is dead and his father a son of God so he doesn’t have any ancestors to write about,” she says one day at lunch. “I think he thinks his biological father is Jesus Christ.”
It takes a while but Abby finally works up the courage to ask him about it. Jack’s in the middle of a story about how his dad was healing someone when she interrupts him.
“Do you think your dad is Jesus?”
Jack frowns and tilts his head in confusion. “No Jesus is my cousin. My father hates him but my da doesn’t really care about him.”
Jack has two dads?
“You have two dads?” she asks.
He pauses to think. “Technically I have four dads but my real father was killed by three of them because he was trying to take me to space.”
Abby’s head spins. “Your dads are murderers?”
“No, they’re hunters.”
“But you just said they killed your real father.”
Jack frowns again. “Yeah but my real father was the devil.”
Abby remembers a girl she met at camp who said the same thing about her dad. She later learned that the girl was taken by CPS and her father went to prison. Suddenly, images of Jack alone and scared in a group home flood her mind and she grabs his arm in alarm.
“Are you safe?” she asks desperately.
He just smiles and pats her arm. “Of course; he’s dead now.”
She shakes her head. “I mean are you safe with your dads now?”
His eyes light up like they always do when he talks about his family. “Of course! My dad was prophesied to save humanity and has, my da is an angel, and my pa is the leader of an army of hunters so I’m in good hands.”
By the time Abby’s processed this comment, Jack has already moved on to his favorite types of cars and the conversation is over.
She forgets about Jack’s crazy family situation until Spring Formal. Abby and her friends are standing in line for the photo booth when she sees Jack across the gym with a beautiful girl on his arm, both of them talking to a giant man with floppy brown hair. Without explaining, she leaves her friends to walk over and gets a better look at the three of them. The girl has long curly blonde hair that bounces when she laughs but her eyes are sharp and harsh, constantly scanning the room as if looking for threats. The man is wearing a white button-down with blue jeans and just smiles warmly as Jack talks animatedly to him. The man spots her as she approaches and for a moment, the warmth in his eyes is replaced by cold suspicion but as soon as Jack notices her and smiles, the man relaxes.
“Abby, this is my pa,” Jack says with a grin.
Jack’s ‘pa’ offers a hand and Abby shakes it. “Sam,” he says politely. “Jack talks about you a lot.”
“Yeah,” the girl cuts in. “I was wondering when I was gonna meet you.” Her eyes trail up and down Abby’s body distrustfully. “This punk never shuts up about you.”
Jack just keeps smiling. “This is my sister Claire,” he introduces. “She’s in college!”
Overwhelmed by the introductions, Abby just smiles and offers her hand to Claire as well. “It’s nice to meet you,” she says, relieved when Claire accepts the handshake.
“Have you met Dean and Cas yet?” Claire asks. “You’re not officially accepted by the family until Dean okayes you.”
Sam swats a scolding hand over Claire’s head. “Don’t scare her--my brother isn’t that bad.” He looks back at Abby with a smile. “Don’t let my niece worry you, Dean and Cas are gonna love you.”
Trying to do mental gymnastics in her head, Abby attempts to figure out how Sam is both Jack’s dad and Claire’s uncle while Jack and Claire are siblings. Dean and Cas are the other two fathers who killed Jack’s real dad and apparently Dean is also Sam’s brother.
She doesn’t finish her thought process before Jack is dragging Abby across the gym, leaving Sam and Claire.
“Dad, da,” he calls out over the music.
Abby tries to spot who responds to Jack’s call and notices two more giant men by the food table look up from their conversation. They’re even more intimidating than Sam and Claire. The taller man has broad shoulders and hard eyes like Claire and despite this being a formal dance, he’s wearing a green canvas jacket and jeans with holes in the knees. The shorter man is a tad more formal with his too-big suit and tan overcoat but he watches them approach with a blank face which is almost more threatening than the hostile look the other man has.
“Da, dad, this is my friend Abby,” Jack says as soon as they’re in earshot.
The taller man looks her up and down like Claire did earlier before nodding shortly. “Nice to finally put a face to the name,” he says gruffly. His voice is rough and low but not unkind so Abby relaxes slightly.
The other man smiles and it suits him much more than the blank look did. “It’s lovely to meet you, Abigail,” he says and holy shit his voice is even lower and gravilier than the other guy’s. “Jack speaks very highly of you.”
“Yeah, thanks to you he listens to shitty music,” the taller man gripes but Abby can tell it’s more teasing than genuinely upset.
“Dean,” the other man scolds as he nudges him. “Megan Thee Stallion is not shitty music.”
If the taller man is Dean, the other is Cas and as Abby watches them, she can see the resemblance between Dean and Sam in their sharp jaws and teasing smiles.
She turns to Jack. “You listen to Megan Thee Stallion?”
Jack nods excitedly. “You were humming her songs in English and I liked it.”
Cas leans in to Abby. “I’ve been trying to get him to branch out from 70s rock for ages but he never wanted to disappoint Dean so thank you for helping him.”
Abby nods, dazed. “Are you Jesus?” she blurts after failing to come up with a response.
Dean barks out a loud laugh and doesn’t stop until Cas swats him. Once Dean settles, Cas turns back to Abby with an embarrassed smile.
“That’s very flattering,” he says, “but no. I am simply Castiel. If anything, Dean shares more in common with the Messiah than I do.”
Instead of elaborating, Dean just snorts and humbly shakes his head. “Babe, we’ve talked about this--”
But before he can finish, Cha Cha Slide blasts through the speakers and the gym falls into pandemonium as all the students rush to the dance floor. Jack, confused but excited, grabs Abby’s hand and drags her over to join in, leaving Dean and Cas for the rest of the night.
Abby doesn’t consider herself a selfish person but even she has never thought so much about another person’s life than Jack’s. Her confusion keeps her up and night and prevents her from being fully present whenever she talks to Jack. She’s tried talking to her friends about it but even they have moved on from the enigma that is Jack Kline.
One month after the formal--after she met Jack’s family--she finally snaps. She’s at lunch with him in a cafe downtown and he’s telling her about how his brother Kevin is visiting from college and is teaching Jack how to talk to angels.
“What the fuck is wrong with your family,” she interrupts.
Jack stops talking and tilts his head in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“You said you have four dads and one of them was murdered by the other three. Dean and Sam are brothers and Dean is with Cas. Claire is your sister but Sam is her uncle and your brother has a mom but none of you are related to her.” She takes a deep breath before continuing. “You keep saying your dads saved the world and that they’ve died and come back. You said one of your dads was an angel and now your brother is teaching you how to talk to angels? Are you lying or are you just plain crazy?”
After the last sentence slips from her lips, she gasps and a cold dread fills her. Jack just stares, shocked at the outburst.
“You think I’m crazy?” he asked softly.
Abby feels a lump in her throat form. “No, no, no,” she babbles, “I didn’t mean that. I’m just confused that’s all.”
Jack brightens. “That’s ok, life is confusing. Anyways, I tried shawarma for the first time yesterday--like in the superhero movie!”
Abby sighs and let’s Jack rant about shawarma, resigned to the fact that she’ll never get a straight answer from this confounding boy and his unnatural family.

k a few quick things about 100 that have been driving me INSANE since I last watched it:
— it seems to me that if you’re in WitSec, the last place they would have you go or even let you go is your own home?? even in a time of crisis?? like presumably they’d tell her, like, you can’t have anything to do with any ties to your old life. INCLUDING YOUR HOME!! so you’d think it would at least pop into Haley’s head that something about this is fishy. and if that thought ever did pop into her mind, why would she not go to the FBI building?? like, it’s somewhere familiar to her and there are a minimum of 7 agents there who she knows and who know every detail of her situation (even if she believes Hotch is dead, that’s still 6 people). Even if we are supposed to think she’d never go there because of some kind of resentment towards the FBI, her son’s safety is at stake— she wouldn’t take chances??
— did no one show Haley, like, even one photo of Foyet while she was in WitSec?? did she not feel the need to look one up or something?? bc, like, idk about you, but I’d want to know what the guy who wanted to kill me looked like— otherwise I’d think he was literally every dude??? like howwwww did she not know it was him when she opened the door
— after Jack went to go hide, why didn’t she try to do anything— run, fight, talk, something— to try and distract Foyet and buy Hotch some time to get there?? maybe she figured just killing her would distract him, which I guess it did for a while, but she had to have believed that as soon as she was dead he’d go after Jack. Hotch purposefully evaded her question of “you’ll hurry, right?” so for all she knew he could be hours away. i just can’t imagine not doing everything I could to survive as long as possible and just make it as hard as possible for the serial killer to kill me, if only so that it would buy time for help to get there so that my kid could make it, never mind your basic survival instinct???
anywayyy it’s fine it’s not like I think about this shit every single day lol
i just really dont think haley was in a right state of mind? she's freaking the fuck out... they even make a point of saying "he didn't scare her, he paralyzed her. he overwhelmed her." i think maybe if foyet hadn't frightened her as much as he did that she probably would've thought a little longer about it. she didn't try to call hotch bc last time she tried to call someone they said it was a security risk, and if foyet's on the move and can apparently track her phone/his number then she doesn't want to risk it with her son's life on the line. she's probably just defaulted to saving her son, bc that what foyet focused on.
but yeah you'd really think they woulda shown her a fucking picture?? not that it would've mattered until it was too late anyway, since they were already in the house when haley actually saw his face for the first time. but you'd think they'd show her pictures?? if sam was tellin her all this stuff about who foyet is and what he does and how to act if caught, you'd think the least they could do is show her a picture so if she spots him in a crowd tailing her or something she could know
i think not trying to run or hide or anything was like.. part of what she was told to do? "show him no fear," i think she realizes her death is inevitable at this point, so angering/encouraging him would only inspire foyet to torture her more. maybe she figured hotch had told jack a place to hide and thought that he might come out if he heard his mother scream or struggle. even now, i think she has enough faith in hotch that he'll arrive in time to save their son
ok but maybe they also just shoulda done some self defense courses while in witsec aksjdhljh so when he's just standing behind him she could beat his ass or smth

Dean died standing up, which on one hand seems symbolic for "dying on his feet not his knees", ie. it was his choice (i call BS). but it was also like Christ's crucifixion: killed for his love (for Cas/men) and faith that life can get better - it did when he "rose" again, but it was Heaven not Earth, ie. a fantasy. Who Dean Was wasn't the only thing that was killed, it was What He Believed In/Wanted as well: a better life, full of love.
How many times over the years has Dean just begun to see light at the end of the tunnel, only to have it ripped away in a horrific cosmic twist that refuses to let him have a win, only to get back up and keep fighting and putting away that dream until it starts to look like they might finally be on the horizon of an actual win again?
Let’s just think back over the history of “toes in the sand” dreaming, specifically, which is something that really became obvious in s10 when they seemed to be on the verge of finding a “cure” for the mark, that they were under the false belief all season was merely a curse that could be undone. He started dreaming of a vacation, of being able to let go of the need to stand between humanity and cosmic fuckery, and just... relax on a beach and enjoy the peace and quiet for a little while. But that was not to be, because the mark was much more than a curse, and unleashed a whole new round of cosmic garbage to clean up.
13.23 took this to new levels of personal punishment for Dean thinking he might deserve a peaceful retirement:
You, me, Cas, toes in the sand, couple of them little umbrella drinks. Matching Hawaiian shirts, obviously.
HE WAS EXCITED ABOUT RETIREMENT and sharing this joy with his loved ones! But by the end of that episode he would have no other choice but to say yes to Michael to save Sam and Jack (and the rest of the world...), and the narrative snatched him up and used him again.
It’s what he’s been fighting for all season long in 15, too. First he had to come to grips with what was even real about his life, if anything was ever even his choice. This season pushed him to truly understand what was real-- that Cas was probably the realest thing he’s ever encountered, and the cosmic forces that had always torn that dream of retiring (or even getting a vacation) from his grasp had also actively been trying to take Cas from him, too. But despite all that, Cas kept coming back to him anyway, and isn’t that an actual miracle?
And when he finally does get the ultimate win against the cosmos in 15.19, it’s at the greatest possible cost. Cas is lost to him, but even still he tries to make that sacrifice worth something by living his life as best he can.
And then he lives like two days before being killed in the stupidest possible fashion. Like...
wtf, on every level
“Oh but he’s got an eternity of happiness in heaven!”
NO. *smacks everyone responsible for this travesty with a rolled up newspaper*
“But that’s just how the Supernatural universe works!”
NO. *gets out the newspaper again*
That is not how *our* world works. For every person among us who has identified with Dean or with Cas, we don’t get to look forward to happy heaven forever. We have *one* life (as far as any of us know) and it’s irrevocably precious. DEAN felt his life was irrevocably precious, too, because Cas convinced him it was, that he was worthy of living and being loved for exactly who he was.
And they both died for it.
And in a world where a... how did I phrase this in another post recently... where a proto-fascist evangelical death cult that’s taken over large parts of the us government and would see all not-straight, not-white, not-wealthy, not-abled and not-them in every other way punished or erased simply for trying to exist in society, and who truly believes that life on earth ain’t shit and their real reward will come only once they reach heaven, this is a really awful end for a canon queer couple moments after that love was made textual in a confession.
Like... really bad.
There is no defense of this choice. Writing is ALWAYS a choice. And sometimes writing simply to serve the story (like showing us that Heaven is fixed and now a paradise) doesn’t serve the audience at all. And sometimes those choices are actively harmful to the audience. I don’t just mean the queer audience (or in Eileen’s case, the disabled audience). I mean THE ENTIRE audience, including people who enjoyed the finale. Because it reinforces that the disabled can simply be erased entirely, and that confessing to loving someone is fulfillment enough and merits instant death and subsequent erasure. Not just for Cas, who confessed, but for Dean who never had the chance to confess his own feelings. Never even had the chance to really live out beyond that confession. Never even addressed it in death, either. It was just a punishment for daring to want to live free of everything that had forced him back into the story over and over again at the whim of a cruel and capricious god.
(This isn’t even satisfying for Sam, who apparently ran away again to live out the half-life he’d tried to make for himself every time he’s run away from his life throughout the entire narrative. His wife was irrelevant, he lived for his son he named for his dead brother, and barely even seemed content in that life let alone fulfilled and happy. Dean’s year away from hunting with Lisa had a more positive and hopeful montage associated with it. It’s depressing as fuck that Sam finally found his way free of all of it, and it’s like he just kept clinging to life out of a sense of duty rather than of his own free will. And it’s entirely baffling in every way. Like none of the previous 15 years of growth and coming to understand the balance of his own life meant anything. What a waste.)
The finale says there is no reward in life for people like me, and that I should just be okay with that. And readers, I am not okay with that.
So... I’m happy to throw away the finale with both hands. It didn’t happen, because it’s just that horrific to me.
And if anyone reading this actually does think the finale was good, or satisfying, then I just invite you to understand why so many of us are horrified that you can. Why we might not feel like you’re trustworthy. Just a little explainer here, because for some of us, the story of Supernatural was in the hoping, and in the end the message felt way too much like don’t even try hoping, you will always lose in the end, and that’s just not okay.
Dean deserved his retirement, he deserved to be able to tell Cas he loved him too, and he deserved a long, happy life of his own free choice. He deserved to be able to follow his heart. And all of this, everything that happened instead, was a deliberate choice. Just not DEAN’S choice.

another thing i toss onto the “jack is chuck, chuck won” theory that will never ever ever ever let me go:
1504:
BECKY Okay. If I had to give one note… the jeopardy, Chuck. It’s feeling a little… thin? Low stakes? It’s fun to hear the boys’ voices, but a story is only as good as its villain, and these villains are just not feeling very… dangerous? Not to mention, there’s no classic rock. No one even mentions Cas. The climax is a little stale. Boys tied up again while we get the villain’s monologue, which, frankly, isn’t one of your best. A little originality wouldn’t…
[she looks up and sees chuck scowling at her]
… hurt.
--
So right, okay.
1504 right? 1504 he writes one ending, gets these notes, then writes the “It’s awful! horrible!” ending that Becky reads but doesn’t give him detailed notes for. May I add, his face is terrifying as hell when she’s saying that but anyway—
But then, we end the episode with him writing and the bobbleheads moving next to him.
So what was he continuing to write?
Well.
“It’s feeling a little thin, low stakes?” — Well. In the end I guess someone died so.
“It’s fun to hear the boys’ voices but a story is only as good as its villain and these villains are just not feeling very... dangerous?”
Something I want to note is Chuck’s expression they cut to here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stick a pin in that.
“Not to mention, there’s no classic rock.” — We did get it in the form of some... songs. But I think the big thing there was going to be the Roadhouse “Kansas” performance that we couldn’t get and I don’t fault them for because, you know, COVID-19.
“No one even mentions Cas.” — Whether you’re reading the script or watching what aired, even though some Cas mentions got cut, he was still mentioned particularly in 1520—just not by the person we wanted to say his name. But, Cas was “mentioned”. Note, she didn’t say “We don’t even see Cas”, it’s “No one even mentions Cas”, leading us to believe that he’s already not there, but now no one is even mentioning him.
“Boys tied up again while we get the villain’s monologue, which, frankly, isn’t one of your best.”
This is when I pause and go “Hang on”. Jenny never gave a monologue.
Both in the transcript on superwiki and in the final draft script Jenny says all but 8 words to Dean and Sam (mostly just Dean). I’m copying over the transcript because it’s easier and the dialogue is the exact same.
DEAN:  I know you. Jenny. [flashback] Son of a bitch.
JENNY: Hey, Dean.
DEAN [stalling] Well, look at you. You know, we tried to kill each other back in the day. Yeah. This is so weird. It's like running into somebody in high school, you know? Somebody you don't want to see. Well, you look good. You do. I mean, a little dead, but, uh, good.
JENNY Thanks.
DEAN So, what, are you, like, the, uh... The big boss or something?
JENNY No. I just called dibs.
So like—I’d call Dean’s little thing more of a monologue but it’s more of a stalling tactic. However. Who do we know that did have a monologue just... recently? Oh yeah.
Jack in 1519:
JACK: I'm around. I'll be in every drop of falling rain, every speck of dust that the wind blows, and in the sand, in the rocks, and the sea.
DEAN: It's a hell of a time to bail. You got a lot of people counting on you, people with questions. They're gonna need answers.
JACK: And those answers will be in each of them. Maybe not today, but... someday. People don't need to pray to me or to sacrifice to me. They just need to know that I'm already a part of them and to trust in that. I won't be hands on. Chuck put himself in the story. That was his mistake. But I learned from you and my mother and Castiel that... when people have to be their best... they can be. And that's what to believe in.
Well... I'm really as close as this. (Jack puts his hand over his heart). Goodbye.
I have a whole other thing I want to write on the “Chuck put himself in the story” bit but will only briefly touch on it below. But for right now. That... looks like a monologue to me.
Per Becky: “Boys tied up again while we get the villain’s monologue, which, frankly, isn’t one of your best.”
Let’s be real, Chuck, that still wasn’t one of your best. You can try to be as clever as you want but you’re still you.
And then finally.
“A little originality wouldn’t… [she looks up and sees chuck scowling at her] … hurt.”
As for the scowl? It’s the same expression more or less as the villain one:
Tumblr media
So what do I think? In the end?
I want to release like, a bigger theory of all of season 15 but currently, and this is speculative and I am obviously not providing a mountain of *hand waves* but: Chuck used season 15 to escape his own narrative ( “Chuck put himself in the story. That was his mistake.”) used everyone but particularly Amara, Billie, and Jack, to do it.
Again, I want to expand on that soon, it’s just taking me a while to get through the episodes.
I’ll leave you with this expression when Becky says this:
CHUCK But great, right? I can see it now… “Supernatural: The End”. And the cover is just a gravestone that says “Winchester”. The fans are gonna love it. Well?
BECKY It’s awful! Horrible. It’s hopeless.
Tumblr media
And I’ll also leave you with this post where 1520 Sam and Dean have a similar exchange “Future” Sam and Dean have in the car when Chuck is trying to break Sam’s hope and spirit in 1509.

New Family
Arron Hotchner x daughter!reader
Word Count: 1,563
Requested By: Anonymous
wait a damn minute, i think you’re onto something with the romanian family, what if you do a oneshot about hotchner!reader getting kidnapped by them?!?!? 👀
A/N: Takes place around season 9 so reader is about 10
Tumblr media
Hotch always knew his job put you and Jack at risk but he always made sure you were with someone he trusted. Whether it was Beth or Jessica, someone watched you two. Occasionally, you or Jack would spend the night at a friend’s house and that was the case last night. You were staying over at your friend’s Sam’s house. Hotch was a bit worried about it but let you go anyway. He would be back early the next day anyway.
In the middle of the night, you heard glass shattering and voices. Your instincts kicked in and you sat up and found the closest thing to you that could be used as a weapon. You didn’t get the chance to warn anyone before a hand was over your mouth and you were being dragged out of the house and shoved into the back of a car.
The next morning, Sam was the first to notice something was wrong. She saw the broken glass and saw that you weren’t around. She immediately went to her parents and they called the police and Hotch, Within minutes, the full force of the BAU and law enforcement arrived.
While investigating, Rossi and Spencer saw the familiarity from a previous case. Colorful, broken glass scattered on the ground. They immediately knew who they were dealing with.
“Our unsubs are a Romanian family with a ten year old. They have a ritual where the wife kidnaps the child, while the son and father kill the parents,” Rossi started the briefing, looking out to the police officers as they took notes, “Although they went off ritual this time which makes us believe that Y/n was a specific target.”
“Instead of taking her from her own home, they broke into a friend’s house and took her, leaving the parent’s and the other child alive,” Spencer said, “Most likely, they knew about Y/n’s connection to the last time we investigated their family.”
Hotch wasn’t allowed to be a part of the investigation, for good reasons. Out of all the unsubs that could come back and get revenge on his family, he wasn’t expecting these ones. The team thought they were in the south, sticking to Alabama like the others. Going to DC to kidnap his child was personal. His biggest fear was that instead of keeping to the pattern of keeping the girls alive, they would kill you, for the ultimate payback. He put away two of their family members almost five years before. To them, family was more important than anything.
JJ snapped Hotch out of his thoughts, knocking on the doorway to get his attention, “We’re having Garcia check shopliftings that have been reported in the area. Hopefully we can narrow down a location,” she could tell that he was clearly not paying attention. It wasn’t because he didn’t care. He just wanted his daughter back.
“Alright. I’ll call Jessica and see if she can take Jack. I don’t want him to get worried about her,” Hotch pulled out his phone to dial Jessica’s number.
“I’ll let you know the moment we get something. You should go home and try to get some sleep,” she said.
“I think we both know that’s not going to happen until I get her back.”
JJ nodded and smiled sadly. She left Hotch alone in the room to call Jessica.
~~~~~
When you were pulled out of the car by a grown man, you tried to scream, knowing that’s what your dad told you to do but the man shoved his hand over your mouth, “Shut up or I’ll kill you,” he snarled. He dragged you through the wooded area by your hair. You could hear two other footsteps behind you. One heavier than the other. When you tried to look behind you, the man yanked your hair to keep your head forward. It was too dark for you to make out any facial features.
After several more minutes of walking, you reached a trailer. The man unlocked the door and handed you off to a woman. There was a boy about your age standing next to her. He looked at you, as if making sure you were the right one. The woman was gentler with you, instead of pushing and yanking, she carefully led you into the trailer. She made you sit on the couch and tied your feet to the leg of the table in front of you.
“So you don’t try and leave,” she whispered, only loud enough for you to hear.
The boy continued to stare at you. He seemed nervous until the man, who you now assumed was his father, nudged him, “Ask her. Don’t be shy.”
The boy pulled out a small deck of cards and held them in front of the two of you, “Want to play?”
You shook your head, “I want to go home. Let me go.”
The man growled under his breath, “You don’t get to say no,” he grabbed the cards from his son and put them on the table. The boy sat across from you and shuffled the cards nervously. The parents left the room and left you two alone.
Several hours later, the parents had come back into the room.
“We’re going now. Hurry up,” the dad said. He gently grabbed the boy by the shoulder and the mother did the same to you. They walked back to the car and you were shoved into the familiar trunk again.
~~~~~
“There was a witness,” Kate said, entering the roundtable room, “A neighbor saw this car outside the house around the time of the abduction. Garcia is checking everywhere,” she tossed the file onto the table so the rest of the team could look.
“Garcia-” Rossi started but was already interrupted.
“Already on it sir. That car was spotted about a half an hour ago at the capital mall,” she said, “Should we tell Hotch?”
“You guys go. I’ll go get him,” JJ said. The rest of the team agreed and left the room. JJ grabbed her things and drove over to Hotch’s apartment.
Hotch had spent the majority of the day either pacing back and forth near the phone or sitting on your bed. While in your room, he looked at all the photographs you had taped to your wall. You refused to put them in frames, saying your room would look too cluttered. He knew better than to argue with you.
Hotch pulled one of the pictures down. It was of you, the first time you met Jack with him and Haley smiling in the background. He set that photo back on your bedside table and looked at some of the others. There was one of you and him from a year ago at the science fair. Spencer had helped you with your experiment and Garcia had helped you decorate the posters. Another photo showed you and Jack after one of his soccer games.
Hotch heard the knock on the front door and left your room, opening the door and seeing JJ, “Did you find her?” he immediately asked.
“Someone saw a car outside the house around the time of the abduction and it was spotted at the mall. The team is heading there now,” she said.
“I should go. In case she’s there she’ll want me.”
“Hotch you know you can’t. You can go to the BAU and they can bring her there.”
Hotch knew he shouldn’t try and fight. He was lucky enough to be given this information, let alone be able to go back to the BAU. He grabbed his things and followed JJ back to the office.
~~~~~
The ride from the trailer to wherever you were now was long. You could feel your muscles starting cramp when the trunk suddenly opened. The bright light of the sun made you squint, but you could still make out the face of Derek.
“You’re okay Y/n. You’re safe now,” he gently grabbed you from the trunk and pulled you into a tight hug.
You started crying, knowing that you were now safe and you could see your dad and your brother soon. You peaked over the top of Derek’s shoulder and saw the three family members being led away and into cop cars. You looked up at Derek with tears in your eyes, “Can I see my dad now?”
“Yeah. Let’s get you to him.”
He let go of you but picked you back up when you almost fell. Your legs weren’t able to support you, being curled up in that trunk for what you later found out was close to two hours.
Despite Hotch’s protests, he had to wait until the paramedics cleared you before he could see you. He continued his pacing in the bullpen, until he heard the elevator ding and the doors to the office open.
He looked up and saw you running right to him. He wrapped his arms around you, squeezing you tightly, “I was so worried about you Y/n. I’m so glad you’re okay though.”
You wrapped your arms around his neck, “I missed you dad. And Jack. Can I go home now?”
The rest of the team had gathered to watch you and your dad reunite. Hotch nodded his head, knowing all you probably wanted to do was be with him and sleep, “We can go home now.”
I know this might be unpopular but...
Tumblr media
*WARNING: Don’t read if you love the Winchesters to a fault* I’m hardcore protective of Dadstiel and I need to vent about this.
I’ll never get over the fact that Castiel, for THREE SEASONS, had to stand by idlily and watch his two best friends steal his son’s affections. That he actually had to compete for Jack’s love and respect. That he had to listen to Jack put Sam and Dean on a pedestal, idolize them and take their last name when Castiel sacrificed so much to protect Jack. That his son verbally expressed fear of losing just Sam and Dean when Castiel had made a deal with the Empty which would tear him away from Jack forever. That he was mentioned as the “THIRD DAD” every single time when Jack had chosen HIM to be his father.
That the Winchesters got to be there for Castiel’s son first because Lucifer had killed him. And that they got to celebrate Jack’s 3rd birthday and other holidays but not Castiel. That Sam got the “father” and “I love you” from Jack but Castiel never did when Sam admitted that he wanted Jack dead. That behind Castiel’s back Dean, after three years, still didn’t consider Jack “family” which didn’t stop his son from loving him; and he has no idea of all the other times Dean was awful to his kid because Sam (who’d witnessed most of it) never said a word. The Winchesters tricked and locked his 2-year-old son in a fucking coffin in 14x19 and tried to kill him in 14x20 which Castiel was extremely upset about; then his anger towards them suddenly vanishes in season 15? When the Hell did he forgive them for any of this?
And lastly I’ll never forget how Jack became so suicidal over what he’d done to Mary, that he was willing to die for the Winchesters to prove something to them; and Castiel wasn’t even allowed to be upset about it. Sam didn’t even comfort Jack after he’d got his soul back and both him and Dean just left him to his depression in his room. I’m even pissed off that this show used characters like Gabriel, Donatello and Rowena to give all the “good parenting” credit of Jack to the Winchesters solely; yah that still has me fuming. Castiel had to play third wheel to the My Three Dads venture. Absent out of episodes for zero reason and kept apart from Jack for long periods of time only for all of this to end with him dying before getting to say “goodbye” to his son and Jack walking away from Sam and Dean forever so he could take over as God.
Listen I love TFW 2.0 I always will but Castiel suffered so much because of that storyline. I have no doubt he appreciated all the good things Sam and Dean have done for Jack in his absence and then some; he loves them both. BUT re-watching these last three seasons (namely seasons 13&14) its hard not to notice how much pain this caused Castiel. The angel who finally found his propose through loving the Devil’s spawn just to play second fiddle to his human companions unknowingly overstepping their bounds.
Misha conveys Castiel’s sadness so subtly well in these final three seasons that it really bothered me to tears. Just watch 14x02 and really listen to his conversations with Jack and Nick in that episode. First there’s the bittersweet heart-to-heart between Jack and Castiel in the Study where he talks about losing part of himself after the Great Fall and referring to Sam and Dean as a crutch for getting through his depression (which was a lie btw) along with himself. Then there’s the scene where Nick accuses Castiel of being a cold-blooded body-snatcher which Castiel responds with Jimmy Novak being his greatest regret. This character had so much low-self esteem and it wasn’t ever dealt with.
Yah I’m getting emo over this angel right now can’t help it. Anyway my point is it was a mistake of the writers to make Castiel seem less important to Jack compared to Sam and Dean. There is no comparison. Castiel has, does and will always love Jack unconditionally. He will always choose him first over anyone else because that is his son period.
Edit: I want to add that NOBODY even asks Cas how he’s doing BOTH TIMES that he’s grieving Jack’s death (nor do they mourn that kid in season 15). Sam and Dean do not give a shit, it never comes up. There’s actually a scene in 14x07 where Cas pauses. before leaving to see Sergei, thinking Sam was going to offer him the same amount of comfort that he’d shown him and Dean. But it doesn’t happen. Instead Sam’s more concerned if Cas should see this Russian dude alone *DERP*. They were shitty friends.
Rewind
Ectober Week 2020 Day 3: Rewind Summary: Maddie can't believe what she's seeing on the security tape. In shock, she hits rewind. Tags: Reveal fic, Blood, Angst, Implications of character death, Tragedy, Trauma, Oneshot
-
Rewind.
Maddie keeps her eyes on the tv screen as the figures wind their way backwards to the start of the video. She won't look away. Can't. Doesn't dare.
If she looks away, she'll have to focus on something else. The quiet, dusty lab around her. The uncleaned ecto-weapons by the door. The green blood smattered on the blade.
The hollow, empty house looming over her head…
The video hiccups a bit as she hits the start of the feed. Old VHS tapes are odd like that, buzzing out with static where the film wore thin from too many pauses and restarts. It's a sign she's hit the beginning. Maddie presses play.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down here."
It was an old security tape, filched from the lab. Onscreen, three teenagers, her son at the lead, slip into the camera's field of view. Maddie leans closer, enraptured by the movement, even though she's seen this moment enough times to have it seared into her brain.
Maybe, if she focuses hard enough, she can learn the secret - how to rewind her own mistakes, go back to a time when none of it has happened, just like in the video.
"Whoa, check it out! This thing's huge! I can't believe your parents built this!" A pause, while the kid adjusts his glasses. "Bummer that it doesn't work though, dude."
"Damn. Was it really supposed to open a portal to the underworld?"
"It's 'The Ghost Zone,' Sam. And yeah. My parents were pretty heartbroken when it didn't work. It kinda just… fizzled out. I hope they're not too upset."
The detached, clinical angle of the shot doesn't do the moment justice. Danny'd always been such a kind boy, thoughtful and empathetic to a fault. Maddie's throat closes up a little, leaving her struggling to breathe. They had been upset. Unbearably so. Their life's work - as Danny put it - fizzled out before their very eyes. It'd been a hard loss to take, one that she and Jack might never have recovered from, had the Portal not miraculously started working on its own, days later.
God. Now she almost wishes it hadn't.
A bright flash draws her from her reverie. Maddie blinks at the screen. A camera flash. In her distraction, she's missed part of the video; Tucker's casual "Lighten up, dude,", Sam's request for a photo op, Danny grabbing a hazmat suit to pose with while she dug the device from her backpack.
"—Got it," Sam waves the printed Polaroid to air out the negative.
"Okay. I showed you the portal. Can we get out of here now? My parents could be back here any minute."
Where had they been that day, anyway? Maddie wonders. Grocery shopping? Visiting the park? Moping, as they tried anything to get their minds off of their most recent failure? If they'd been there —
If they'd been there—
"Come on, Danny," comes Sam's voice, treacherous in its fascination. "A Ghost Zone? Aren't you curious?"
Danny looks into the Portal, clutching the custom white suit made specially for him. Sam smirks, knowing. "You gotta check it out."
Maddie hits pause.
Rewind.
"You gotta check it out."
Pause. Rewind.
"You gotta check it out."
Rewind.
"—gotta check it out."
The remote feels cold and heavy, like ice in her hand. In that moment, a selfishness grips her. She could blame Sam. For all if it. Everything that happened, it all started here, and it started because—
—But she can't blame Sam, because the next moment, Danny turns back, his eyes sparkling with an adventurous spirit. It's a spark of curiosity, brimming at the thought of the unknown; a look she's all too familiar with, one she's seen often on her daughter's face, her husband's - even her own, in the mirror.
"You know what? You're right. Who knows what kind of awesome, super cool things exist on the other side of that Portal?"
That curiosity, it's a Fenton trait, not one that needs to be stoked like a fire. That spark's been burning within him, since the cradle.
"Don't go in," she whispers, as if her advice could change the course of history. Even if he could hear her, though, it would be no use. He can no more resist the call than he can resist breathing.
He pulls on the hazmat suit. Skintight, white with black edging. It's like staring at a photo-negative. Watching her son, Maddie's stomach twists.
How couldn't she see it before?
"Alright. I'm going in." He says. His first footsteps echo, loud, in the hollow of the blacked out Portal…
Maddie's breath shudders in. She grips the remote and, before she can stop herself, hits the button.
Rewind.
She watches as her son walks backwards, double-time, out of the entrance to the Portal. The panic that gripped her fades.
"Mads?" From somewhere up above, echoing down the staircase, comes her husband's voice. Maddie is glued to the video screen, and almost doesn't hear him. Regardless, she definitely can't answer. What would she even say?
"Maddie?" His heavy footsteps echo in the stairwell, trudging closer. "Are you down there?"
A hitch in the tape. Maddie presses play.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down here."
Drawn by the sound, Jack trudges the rest of the way down the narrow staircase. She feels a slight reverberation in the floor when he reaches the landing behind her. She doesn't turn around.
"The police called back. Officer McNally said he'd file a missing persons report, and they promised to keep their eyes open. But—" she hears the way uncertainty causes his voice to die in his throat when she doesn't turn to greet him. After a long moment of silence, he draws up to her side. "What are you watching?" he asks at last.
"It kinda just… fizzled out. I hope they're not too upset."
Question. He'd asked a question. Maddie swallows and struggles to answer. "Security tapes," she chokes out.
Understanding, an incomplete kind, dawns on Jack, and vigor jumps back into his bones. "Mads, that's brilliant!" he booms. "Why didn't I think of it? He comes into the lab all the time! We can use the security tapes to see when he last—"
"I found this tape in Danny's room," she interrupts.
Again, his voice falters in confusion.
"Under the bed," she elaborates, as if that will help. And continues watching, detached.
"Can we get out of here now? My parents could be back any minute."
The flickering light of the tv fills the lab, ominous in its glow. Jack hesitates. Maybe he's picked up on the subtext by now. Maddie can picture his eyes drifting from the staticy screen to the items in front of it, scattered across the table. He reaches out fro the shoebox sitting beside the tv. Taped to its front, written in the cursive, unmistakable scrawl of their son's handwriting, is a note that reads:
'If I Never Come Home'
"Maddie, what is this." Jack's voice is uncharacteristically heavy. Looking to her for guidance. For answers.
For once, she has none to give.
"Watch," Maddie whispers, still trapped by the screen. Automatic, her fingers hit the button.
Rewind.
With no other options to grasp at, he does.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down here."
Watches as the kids approach the Portal.
"Aren't you curious?"
Watches as their son zips up the hazmat suit.
"Alright, I'm going in."
Watches as he disappears into the empty cavity of their greatest invention.
Click.
Watches as it thrums to life, with a scream.
"Da—Danny no!" Jack yells in tandem with the two remaining teens. He lurches forward, hand outstretched, to stop the agony onscreen. "He's not - when did he -"
"It's old, Jack," Maddie whispers. "From when the Portal started working."
Jack spins to stare at her. "You mean - Danny's the one who—" he's visibly struggling with the information, the same way she did, on her first viewing. "But—he never said—"
Right, Madie thinks. He never said anything. Jack's confusion is laughable, though. Why Danny never told them—that much is painfully clear.
"Guys?" Over the yelling and the panicking and the electric cackle from the Portal, their son's terrified voice cuts through the din. "G-guys help, what's happening?!"
Tucker and Sam are black silhouettes stumbling backwards from a swirling green glow, but they freeze and scramble to right themselves, lurching forward to catch someone as he stumbles through the gate.
Phantom - Danny - emerges from the portal, falling to his knees.
"…No," Jack says. Disbelief is thick in his voice. "That can't be… no."
Maddie lifts the remote.
Rewind.
A flash of light. A curdling scream. A shock of confusion, panic, scramble.
Danny Phantom stumbles from the portal.
Jack stares for a long time. Then he reaches out, snatching the lid of the shoebox for a second look at the evidence. The note, accusatory, stares back at them.
"This is how he tells us." Jack doesn't often whisper, but it seems like he can't do anything else. Her husband looks at the empty shoebox, the screen, the VCR. "Our son is Danny Phantom, and this is how he tells us. I…" he trails off.
Maddie almost can't believe it, how easily Jack arrives at the conclusion. It took her twelve viewings for her to wrap her mind around it, and it still hasn't really sunk in. But then, that's always been Jack's strong poing - those intuitive leaps of logic. Ones every scientist both loathed and envied.
"Did it kill him?" he moves seamlessly onto the next question that tripped her. Somehow, Jack's voice is even quieter this time.
Maddie shakes her head no. If they watch the video long enough, about ten minutes in, Danny manages to change his way back to human. If their invention did kill him, it wasn't permanent. Not that time, at least.
She's too close to thinking about it.
Rewind.
"But—" she can't stop Jack from thinking, though. He barrels on, heedless of breaking the fragile grasp Maddie has on her sanity. "But if all this time — Phantom—"
A hitch in the tape.
"We've been—"
Press play.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down here."
"—Don't tell me we've been trying to waste our own kid—"
If Maddie weren't so detached, she might laugh. Waste. God, he can't even say it.
"Trying?" she asks instead. Bitter, the word sticks to her tongue.
She's not looking at the tape now. She's looking at him. And Jack, oh, Jack, he just stares down at her, a dark horror growing in his eyes.
He whips around to look at the bloodied weapons sitting at the base of the stairs.
Exactly where they left them two days ago, after that nasty ghost fight. When they came home to find a broken house, their daughter crying at the kitchen table, and their son just - gone.
"No." Jack backs up a step. "No no no no no no no—"
A flash of light. A curdling scream—
In an instant, Jack is moving. He snatches up weapons, whatever he can find, and bolts for the staircase, vaulting his way up to ground floor. Distantly, Maddie hears the doors slam. The RV thrumming to life. The screech of tires as Jack peels out of the driveway.
In the cold wake of his departure, Maddie turns back to the tv. She should go after him, she knows. But she's not quite done watching. Jack's always been a man of action, after all, but she's the analytical one, who studies, who marvels, who gathers the facts she sees.
Phantom, onscreen, slumps against his friends while he drips ectoplasm to the floor. He stares down at his white-gloved hands, his glowing green eyes wide in shock. Maddie wonders if he knew, then, what would become of him. What his parents, who raised him, who swore to protect him, would do.
She can't face those questions. Not yet. Not yet. Instead, she lifts the remote.
And rewinds.
A good scientist, a rational scientist, never draws conclusions while she's still gathering evidence. So as long as she's still watching—
A hitch in the tape. She's at the beginning. Maddie presses play.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down here."
As long as she keeps watching, she doesn't have to do anything with this information. All she has to do is watch.
So she watches. She rewinds. And she plays. She can't look away—
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down here—"
She doesn't dare.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down h—"
All she can do is rewind—
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let y—"
And rewind—and rewind—
"Mom and Dad would kill me if—"
Until she finds evidence contrary to her theory…
"Mom and Dad would kill me—"
Or she finds Its inevitable End.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they knew I let you down here."
Rewind.
"Mom and Dad would kill me if they—"
Rewind.
"Mom—"
Rewind.
"Mom—"
Rewind.
"Mom—"
like in my heart the divorce arc is like. jack survives moriah (maybe killing chuck in the process?) and with jack alive and dean proving himself to be a danger to him cas is like Okay That Tears It I Am Taking The Kids And Leaving.
and they get a HUGE divorce. cas goes off with jack (who is still soulless! but cas is okay with that. it's something he might try to solve for jack's sake because he wants jack to be whole, to feel, but it's not something that's wrong it's not something that eats at him).
and dean is very messed up about it but he's also like. obviously the reason cas is doing this to me is because he never really cared about me. and sam is like *tiny mouse voice* maybe it's because you tried to kill cas' son and dean is like what are you talking about. that's neither here nor there.
and so cas spends a few years raising jack on his own, sans winchester influence, which is very good for both of them because cas breaking himself of considering dean the center of his moral universe is necessarily if he's ever going to have a healthy self-image or conduct a healthy relationship with dean (eventually), and dean is just toxic to have around jack overall. like dean should not be around jack. also maybe sam would sneak off to visit them occasionally although this would really piss dean off once he eventually found out.
anyway dean can't go FULL epic divorce man because that kind of implies a full isolation and he'll always have sam but like. he goes at least partway to epic divorce city.
they do eventually do a modified version of the trap though where dean apologizes for trying to kill jack. and then cas is like i will TENTATIVELY start hanging out with you again. i won't let you near my son but i do care about you deeply. and they work their way up from there
C!Jack and C!Tommy’s conversation 3/12
Jack and Tommy’s conversation 3/12 (Jack seeing Tommy for the first time since his death) to the best of my ability lol. I watched Tommy's VOD for this. I wasn’t sure how to convey overlapping so I just did my best.
I put Tommy's name as red font and Jack's as blue. Sam Nook, my beloved, is green (of course).
Transcription below the cut.
Tommy: J-Jack?
Jack: What the f -
Tommy: Hello? Why’s everyone -
Jack: No.
Tommy: Why is there a huge penis behind you?
Jack: I don’t know what - what the fuck - hey, bigger elephant in the room, why are you alive?
Tommy: Does everyone still think I’m dead?
Jack: (You were)?
Tommy: I’m a freak. Jack.
Jack: I -
Tommy: Jack. I - don’t - don’t make me - Jack, I’m so - I’m so - I can’t - I can’t -
Jack: No! No! You’re dead! You’re dead! You died. I grieved for you! You’re -
Tommy: I’m fine.
Jack: - not back. No one comes back.
Tommy: No, I’m fine.
Jack: Most people don’t come back.
Tommy: No, I’m all right. Anyway, um - okay.
Jack: Don’t - anyway? Don’t anyway me -
Tommy: All right. All right, bye. Bye-bye.
Jack: You always anyway me!
Tommy: Tubbo. Why’s he staring at me? Of course I always anyway you, you’re Jack Manifold, mate. Fucking - you’re not Tubbo -
Jack: No! This is why - this is why - this is why you deserved (this)? [he possibly said ‘it,’ don’t know] This is why I should have been…
Tommy: Yeah, mate. Sorry mate. You've got to be a bit bigger for your boots (on you, pal)? I’ve literally just died, and you’re sat here, making it about you. Jack, you’re selfish, pal.
Jack: If - no I’m not selfish -
Tommy: What have you done -
Jack: You’re selfish! You’re -
Tommy: - to the hotel while I’ve not been here?
Jack: - selfish!
Tommy: What have I - what have you done - Jack.
Jack: I made this hotel better than you ever did, all right? I made money, I upgraded, I filled the upgrades chest, I - I sold rooms, what did you ever do? You did nothing. All you ever did was take.
Tommy: (Well I’ve been t - )???
Jack: And even when I agreed - despite all of that, everything you did to me, I grieved for you. And here you are back again as if nothing happened.
Tommy: Wait, so - you said griefed me?
Jack: No, no I didn’t!
Tommy: Griefed me -
Jack: Grieved! Grieved! I was sad! I was upset!
Tommy: Why were you sad?
Jack: Because you died. And we were -
Tommy: DON’T SAY THAT I DIED TO ME, JACK!
Jack: - friends.
Tommy: You know I - ha.... You know I don’t want to hear about that. Jack, you’re being...
Jack: I’m being what? I’m being what? Selfish?
Tommy: Yeah, basically. Yeah.
Jack: YOU WERE AL - (stammering) Yeah, like I’m the selfish one. What did you do? You did nothing but take from me, always. My lives -
Tommy: I gave you a job and I built this hotel. I feel like that’s quite -
Jack: You didn’t give me a job, it was slave labor! This is my little cubby hole you built!
Tommy: It’s not slavery. You were happy. You didn’t complain.
Jack: I didn’t complain because I was trying to kill you! And I was -
Tommy: Yeah, ‘cause you could have killed me, Jack Manifold. I came back from the dead. I came back from the dead…
Jack: I came back from the dead, dickhead! You’re not special!
(There’s the “get off the floor” break in characters here lmao)
Jack: Don’t come back here, calling me selfish, as if you didn’t do the things you did.
Tommy: Is this - what do you mean don’t… This is - this is my hotel. This is my hotel, mate. Let’s go to the roof.
Jack: This is my hotel! You died. Dead people don’t have hotels. You were in prison.
Tommy: Wait, wait, wait.
Jack: Convicts don’t have hotels.
Tommy: “Jack Manifold’s specifically.”
Jack: We had a bit of a disagreement. Puffy was - we had a bit of an argument about it. But this is my suite. Welcome.
Tommy: You took the hotel from me. And you built -
Jack: I didn’t take it, you died.
Tommy: - a giant penis.
Jack: I didn’t - I didn’t build - why are you - I didn’t build a penis! Do I strike you as a penis builder?
Tommy: Yes.
Jack: You always had me wrong... I’m pissed.
Tommy: Jack. Jack, I d - is this - Jack, I died.
Jack: Yeah, you did.
Tommy: And you didn’t even care.
Jack: I did care!
Tommy: You didn’t even care.
Jack: Despite that I was trying to kill you for two months, even when you died, I didn’t feel happy.
Tommy: You weren’t trying to kill me for two months. You’re fucking Jack Manifold, pal. You’re literally like - I don’t think you did. Jack -
Jack: That’s the problem. All the time you belittle me, you dismiss me, you drop me in a pool of lava, I’m the only person that tries to visit you when you were in exile, and you forget me like I’m nothing, and when I finally try and get my own back - I launched nukes at you and you didn’t even care. No one’s done that on this server. I built a nuclear program!
Tommy: Have you seen Moana? ‘Cause I keep having the same song stuck in my head - la la la...
Jack: (Shouting/raised voice, mostly unintelligible over Tommy’s singing) You’re fucking shit!
Tommy: (How’s that sound? It’s really good.)?
Jack: I am the better Rock! I’m bald.
Tommy: Jack, man. I - sorry, I completely don’t know what you were saying but I’m sure it was words.
Jack: (angry noise)
Tommy: Jack, listen to me. I built this hotel from the ground up with the help of my companion Sam Nook. You’ve stolen from him, and he’s (likely to kill you)?
Jack: I didn’t steal!
Tommy: You fucking stupid talking son of a bitch! For once in your life just listen to me! Please! Stop deciding -
Jack: - NO! No!
Tommy: Stop deciding that I’m the wrongin!
Jack: You listen to me!
Tommy: Jack, and just for once - you’re denying what’s happened, so you can try and manipulate it so I’m in the wrong and you’re just -
Jack: I’m not manipulating, you are doing it!
Tommy: Jack -
Jack: This is what you always do!
Tommy: - I’m gonna leave in a second.
Jack: This is why you deserve being dead!
Tommy: Okay. Jack, what you’re doing here, is creating a villain for yourself. All right? And when I was gone, you didn’t have that. You’re so glad I’m back. You need to stop. You’re just creating a villain out of nowhere, all right? Listen to me, Jack. Ha - Dream is gonna revive - no, I probably shouldn’t tell you, you’d just get in the way. Jack - listen to me. I - I - I’m changed. I - I saw so much. I’ve learnt so many terrible things, Jack. I - I’m trying to hold it together, I’m trying to be all shout-y like the old me, but I’m struggling, Jack. All right? So please. For once in your life, just - just - just- just - put a lid on it. Please. All right? Everyone’s telling me to kill you. I’m not going to, but listen, you - listen! I don’t get - this hotel - put that away right fucking now. SAM! SAM!
Jack: You died, and you think you’re all that, and you think you learned everything.
Tommy: I don’t think I’m all that. I died.
Jack: I died. We died! I died because of -
Tommy: Sam, I'm gonna go.
Jack: - you!
Tommy: And I’m gonna go investigate the r - people think I’ve died, Sam. What did they - they must have changed the server forever.
Sam Nook: HELLO TOMMYINNIT… IS EVERYTHING OKAY…?
Tommy: Would you sort him out, Sam? Can you get him - can you escort him out of VC 2, please? Escort him out of VC 2.
Jack: Don’t you dare.
Tommy: Please, Sam.
Jack: This is my hotel, all right? I’ve done everything in this place -
Tommy: You know what? Jack, Jack, you can keep the hotel for now. I’ve got bigger fish to fry. You keep it running while I’m gone. I’ve got bigger fish to fry. Escort him out of VC 2 please, Sam.
Jack: This isn’t the end.
Tommy: It probably is.
Shielded From The Truth
Cross posted on A03: https://archiveofourown.org/works/30441042 -.-.-.-.- Warnings: Mild wounds. Number two in the phic phight! When his parents put a shield up around Casper high to keep the ghosts out, and it means that Danny’s day hardly goes to plan. And he was so close to being on time for once too…. PHIC PHIGHT 2021 For team ghost! -.-.-.-.-.- Prompt by: Silverwing013 Danny's parents have kindly offered to set up a ghost shield generator for Casper High. Hijinks ensue as Danny attempts to handle the situation.
-.-.-.-.-.-
Danny groaned as he only half listened to his parents rattle off whatever ghost nonsense they were going on about as he ate his breakfast. A bowl of dry cereal because the milk was contaminated and he really didn’t want to chance it giving him more than a stomach ache. This had become the norm this week it seemed as his parents seemed invested more than usual into the ghost shields that they had been working on and improving.
Why only shields? They would be installing one in the school soon… but beyond that? He wasn’t sure. They probably told him, sure, but being a teenager and one that had parents that hated half of him, had the effect of making him only lightly listen to the weapons and things that were meant to fully kill him off. That and at least the ghost shields weren’t usually a hindrance to him, in fact, they had proven themselves useful on a few occasions.
Plus he had the added advantage of being able to simply return to his human form and slip through the shield with little issue. Given his parents had no knowledge of half ghosts existing, at least he hoped not, they shouldn’t be designing a ghost and human shield. After all, that would defeat the purpose, right? It wasn’t as if Amity really had any human threats anymore.
Well, regardless of the eccentricities of his parents he could at least take some comfort in the fact that Skulker couldn’t simply attack the school to get to him any longer.
Small mercies he supposed.
Danny blinked as his father said something to him before slapping him on his back causing the teen to practically choke on his cereal from the force of the smack. “Isn’t that just great Dann-o?” the large man exclaimed happily before looking at his son expectantly. Oh great, he wanted him to ask something? Great.
“S-Sure” Danny choked out as he flailed, grabbing in front of him for the orange juice he had nabbed from the fridge, it thankfully hadn’t been in there long enough to start glowing… yet…
He shook his head as he finally got his breath back without inhaling dry cereal pieces into his lungs. When he was sure he wasn’t going to sound like some dollar store squeaky toy he tried to ask his parents a question, always a dreadful time if he were honest, but hey, he would usually be late for school anyway.
“So this will go around the whole school?” Danny tried weakly.
“Yep! And the best part is it’ll sense where there's an evil ectoplasmic entity nearby and spring up instantly! We made sure there won’t be a ghost within Twenty feet of the school before that puppy jumps up to the rescue! Like a big Fenton airbag!” Jack exclaimed all too enthusiastically for what the current time in the AM should allow a normal person to exhume.
Danny hummed noncommittally and sent a glance of ‘help me’ to his sister, who, in turn, rolled her eyes at her little brother. “And the shield even uses the ghost’s power to run the shield right?” Jazz asked side eyeing her father from her own spot not wanting to fully engage in the conversation they were having.
“Oh, yea! That’s the best part!” Jack practically cheered out.
“And the stronger the evil skum is the faster the shield will react and sooner it will be picked up. It will only go off on a level three or higher.” Maddie explained with a pleasant smile as she sips at her coffee.
“And we got it all finished last night to be ready for you kids today” Jack added happily.
“Hooray, more fun on a Monday” Danny sighed out into his last bites of cereal. Jazz snorted but didn’t comment, though Danny blew her a childish raspberry.
Jack continued to go on about the more intricate details of the shield they had put up though only one thing really caught his attention in the spiel, “-And Vladdie helped with the funding to outfit the school! Even helped us get the materials we needed to make such a large shield!”
“Ah, there it is…” Danny groaned letting his head fall forward onto the table in instant defeat.
“Danny! I really wish you would learn not to stay up so late playing video games! Look at you! If I get another call from one of your teachers about you sleeping in class-” Maddie started only for Danny to cut her off jumping to his feet.
“Yep! Thanks for that, mom! Look at the time! Love you bye!” Danny prattled off quick as could be before grabbing his book bag by his feet and bolting like a scared rabbit. After all, if his mother never finished that sentence when he inevitably fell asleep he couldn’t be grounded… she never officially gave him the last warning…
That’ll work, right?
It wasn’t long when he was out of the house that he was at his usual waiting spot for Sam and Tucker. Unsurprisingly, Sam got there first though they didn't have to wait long for Tucker to lumber forward, half asleep to his friends, and together they made their way towards the school as a unit.
Things seemed well enough until he got onto the stairs leading up to the main doors. That was when all hell broke loose. A deep alarm sounded before his father’s voice rang out from the speakers, in his over the top cheery way that only Jack Fenton knew how to pull off.
“Attention kids! Guess there’s an evil spook nearby so we’re deploying the shield! This ghost protection was brought to you by Fenton-works and sponsored by your mayor!”
Danny frowned. “My ghost sense didn’t go off…” He mentioned quietly to his friends.
“Maybe the shield sensors are more sensitive than you are?” Tucker asked with a frown.
“Since when?” Sam argued incredulously.
“Well who or whatever it is, it isn’t bothering me right now and no one’s screaming, no one’s panicking, so it can wait. I’m actually going to be on time for once!” Danny says waving the notion off.
He continues his trek up the stairs and towards the doors of the school, though when he reaches the threshold of the shield he finds himself having to really push hard against the thing. It was like hitting a wall of foam or Jell-O. He could push through if he pressed hard enough but it was not pleasant or as easy as going through the air.
Once through the initial shield wall, he blinked slowly feeling sluggish and as though all his limbs were moving through water. He even sort of felt like he was having to ‘swim’ as he walked like he was both heavier and lighter than he should be, but unable to find that buoyancy happy middle ground.
“Dude…” Tucker said smartly as he frowned at his friend’s almost slow motion, yet stop motion like movements. It was eerie, to say the least, not to mention the more pressing issue that he noticed right off the hop, “Your eyes are shining, man. And your, um… Neck...”
Sam, ever prepared for whatever bull their lives seem to throw their way, slipped her bag around to her front and offered Danny a pair of sunglasses, which the halfa put on promptly, along with the spider webbed patterned black and silver scarf.  “I mean, it’s better,” Sam argued, not even giving Tucker's look of disapproval her full attention.
“They’re spider glasses.” The boy states with a shake of his head. “Not really digging the whole-” Tucker waved his arm about Danny’s head in little circles, “-pseudo goth thing” he finished finally. Though he had to admit it was at least marginally better than seeing his friend’s glowing eyes and the electric scars showing up on his neck and disappearing under his shirt collar.
“Better?” Danny asked out sluggish, his voice almost sounding like it was being drawn out on a tape deck that was starting to lack battery power and not playing at quite the proper speed making the pitch and timing slower and lower.
Sam and Tucker shared a look before offering a thumbs up to their friend, both deciding it better not to address… whatever that was… The look they shared between one another spoke of their mutual hope that this would perhaps be one of those problems that simply go away on its own.
Ignoring the problems they have usually makes it go away… Yeah, that always works out.
Danny makes a grab for the door to pull it open again, having that weird slow stop motion effect, like he was flickering between blinks rather than making a smooth motion forward. “Ehm, maybe don’t move around too much man… it’s um… creeping me out.” Tucker offers helpfully.
“Huh?” it took Danny a minute to process, as while he looked slow to them they seemed to be hyped up on caffeine to him… “Why are you talking so fast?” He wondered, his head almost appearing to glitch into a tilted and confused look.
“I think the ghost shield is making you go all slow motion. Just stop talking.” Sam says forcefully before letting out a shudder of her own.
Sam and Tucker share a glance before they each grab onto one of Danny’s arms and half drag him off to his locker. Despite his friends’ efforts he still got many looks shot his way, and a couple of people started whispering to one another as he passed by them.
“How is this going to work if I’m already weirding everyone out?” Danny asked, voice still sounding like a slowed record as he blinked sluggishly and his head jerked almost unsteadily from side to side. From his perspective, everyone was speeding along and talking at 1.5 times the normal speed.
“Maybe I should look for the ghost that triggered this, maybe Tuck, can you look into this mess?” Danny asked after a moment of trying to figure out what was being said around him through the noise of the hall.
“Yeah that might be best…” Sam responded shifting from leg to leg as she locks eyes with a basketball jock who was staring at their group incredulously.
“I got you, man, I’ll change everything to present and, block any ‘call home’ recommendations.” Tucker pipped up already pulling out his PDA to set that up preemptively.
Danny nodded and let out a hum before glitching his way out the nearest exit and out of the shield’s bounds. Once he slipped back out through the barrier, strangely enough, a harder feat than it was getting in, but that wasn’t a problem he wanted to focus on, he already blamed Vlad so he would simply continue to do so until the fruitloop showed himself.
As soon as he was through the green line of the shield Danny practically fell forward in relief. That stifling feeling now gone from his core and bones making his movements fluid and normal, well as normal as a clumsy half ghost could be anyhow…
It was a moot point and not one Danny wanted to think on too long. He gave a quick “thanks” to his friends, before diving between the dumpster and the school’s bricks, transforming into his ghostly alter ego and taking off into the sky. He would do a few laps around the school and city as he looks for whatever ghost set off the shield.
-BREAK-
It wasn’t until lunchtime Danny returned looking much more windswept and all around more miserable. He entered the courtyard through the side joining his friends out on the picnic table they had claimed.  He made it over to them, flopped down on the bench next to tucker with a groan before his head smacked into the table before him.
“You find them?” Tucker asked around whatever horrid monstrosity of a sandwich he was eating, spewing bits of half chewed bred at Danny’s head.
“No” Came the muffled reply, filled with tired disdain.
“No ghost sense?” Sam wandered, flicking the bits of bread from Danny’s raven hair and back towards Tucker.
“No”
“Huh… You think it was you who set off the shield?”  Sam wondered with a thoughtful frown.
“When I went into the back end of the generator though it wasn’t supposed to go off for anything that low, Danny in human form is like a two at best,” Tucker argued spinning his PDA around to show what he’d found when he hacked into the motherboard of the Fenton’s latest device.
Danny groaned. He supposed had he listened to his parents he could have been more prepared for whatever lunacy his parents’ decided to toss his way but alas, his short attention span and teenage rebellion and lack of caring got the best of him yet again.
Joyous of joys.
He tuned out his friend’s back and forthing for a bit, wondering if he could get away with smashing the device as Phantom when Tucker had his a-ha moment of discovery. Danny turned his head and raised a brow at his friend who was furiously typing away at his device.
“You were right about Vlad, Sam”
“Naturally,” She agreed.
“Well, he had an over right line here specifically set for Phantom’s ecto- signature,” the boy states running his finger along the line of code he’d found in the program.
Danny’s mood instantly brightened at that. “So then we just get rid of that bit right? And BAM everything’s fine?” He asked. “Man, what happened to me? Why do I want to get into the school again?”
“To keep up the illusion of normalcy on this mortal plane.” Sam supplied stabbing at her salad a little more forcefully than she probably needed to.
“Eh, yeah, I suppose.” Danny agreed with a lacklustre shrug.
“There, that should do it” Tucker spoke, interrupting whatever tangent Sam was getting ready to spew off about how normalcy was only an illusion created by corporations or some other such thing.
“And just in time The bell just rang,” Danny says with a small grin clasping a firm hand onto his friend’s shoulder. “Nice one Tucker!” he cheered as the trio made their way over to the doors that would lead them back into the cafeteria.
Unfortunately, as soon as Danny’s hand hit the door handle the shield once again sprung to life, though this time, instead of simply having a hard time passing through the shield, he was thrown back across the field earning a cry from several students who were following the trio.
“Grapes of wrath Mister Fenton!” Lancer, (of course it was Lancer) shouted out in worry, his shout even carrying over the prerecorded message containing his father’s voice. Lancer half jogged half waddled over to Danny who blinked up blearily to his teacher, eyes flashing green for the briefest of seconds before draining back to blue.
“Leave it to Fen-turd to get himself possessed.” Dash snorted from behind the pot bellied teacher earning a few nervous glances between the small crowd of gathering students. The mutterings of the students didn’t take long to start up after that.
“I’m not possessed,” Danny argued, though, it was rather hard to make said argument when the palm of his hand was burned and leaking ectoplasm from where he had touched the door.
“Course he’s not possessed! He’s a ghost himself!” Wes shouted pointing an accusatory finger at the youngest Fenton.
Danny glared. “Not the time Westly.” He muttered under his breath as he was hauled to his feet by his friends. He tried to brush himself off only to end up smearing the ectoplasm from his hand onto his jeans, leaving a luminescent streak across his thigh.
Seeing his chance the ginger jock was all too eager to point it out. “See look! He’s bleeding ectoplasm!”
“No, I’m not! It’s from the shield! it sputtered out at me.” Danny tried to protest, though even in his own ears it sounded like a weak argument.
“Really?” Wes argued and marched over to the shimmering shield. The teen waved his arms about freely in the shield’s range hopping back and forth pointedly across the line of the barrier before showing his hands and clothes were completely clean of any glowing goo. “See! Ghost!” he accused again after he did a little pirouette to show his lack of ectoplasm.
“Yeah? Well, it sputtered at Danny only ‘cuz it turned on with him in the threshold.” Sam tried to argue back glaring at the ginger, venom in her gaze.
“Well then, why don’t you just walk through the shield Fen-toad?” Dash said with a smarmy grin, ever eager to get his own jabs in and seemingly not wanting to be outshined by the ginger conspiracy theorist’s bullying of his favourite punching bag.
“Fine” He spat back bitterly and marched up to the shield with a huff.
Sam and Tucker exchange a glance with one another as Danny presses his hand into the shield again. Thankfully this time there wasn’t anything that blows him back but he also really had to try and push through the shield.
Danny could see out of the corner of his eye Wes’s smug grin as he grunts and does his best to push through the shield. His persistence is rewarded and he falls to the ground on the other side jumping up and giving a quick ‘HA!’ as he faces the small gathering crowd of students shifting uncomfortably just beyond the shield.
Sam had a look of exasperation and she looked like she was trying to restrain herself from face palming. Tucker on the other hand had no such restraint. He was almost over eager to bury his face into his hands.
From Danny’s perspective, he simply smacked into the ground and stood back up, but from the other students’ perspectives, Danny fell into the shield but instantly slowed down, looking as though he were falling with the moon’s gravity rather than the earthly speed everyone was used to. It also didn’t really look to them like he had hit the ground, instead glitching his body back into an upright position before cheering in that low slow motion state as he had earlier.
And if that wasn’t damning enough his eyes were glowing a lovely shade of ectoplasmic green.
Wes smirked, seemingly very smug and content with himself and this development. “See told you all he was a ghost!”
“T-that’s enough Mister Weston… Right…” LAncer muttered to himself a few moments watching as Danny seemed to glitch about as he cheered before seemingly realizing something was wrong. “I think there was a procedure to depossess a student…I bet the teachers in Bridgestone don’t have to exercise their students in this manner…” He complains. Sure they had gym class and he would appreciate the pun and irony if he wasn’t so tired.
“I don’t get paid enough for this,” he muttered, ignoring the look of panic that spread across Danny’s face.
It took some doing, a lot of flailing limbs and pressing himself against the damn shield, but Danny soon was through back out and free. His eyes still glowed brightly as he stared at his classmates looking very much like a deer in the headlights. Eyeshine and all might he add.
A few of the students were snickering, because only in Amity park could one get possessed by a ghost and have it come across as though someone had merely said something embarrassing or misheard an instruction and was now staring blankly ahead.
“Er….” Danny stared at his classmates half panicked before simply vanishing from view.
“Moby Dick!” Lancer exclaimed, almost dropping the book he was thumbing through from the Fenton parents. Sure it was a ghost, and could potentially be dangerous, but it wasn’t attacking so there wasn’t really anyone panicking.
Instead, the teacher simply felt tired. “Right, I’ll call the Fentons and let them deal with this, Everyone back inside I do believe the lunch bell rang already!” the teacher called out shooing the students into dispersing.
Danny stood there invisibly and holding strong as he internally groaned. At least they thought he was possessed, that could be easily explained away but he was not looking forward to trying to explain it to his parents…
Still maybe if he gets ahead of this…
It was with that thought in mind that he bolted away into the treeline beside the school, transformed and headed off to his home landing in his bedroom only a few minutes later. He went human, back intangible and invisible came out the door, made sure the coast was clear before speeding his way down into the basement.
He just made it down the stairs startling his mother and father who blinked at him curiously, when the phone rang cutting off his mother’s “Honey? What are you doing home so soon?”
“It’s the school calling Mads,” Jack says, sounding disappointed as the large man sent a look of disapproval to his boy.
“Wait!” Danny jumped forward answering the phone and instantly hanging it up.
“Daniel!” His mother exclaimed abashedly.
“I wanna explain first! Do you know how all your stuff goes off on me? Well, the shield at school started doing that and they think I’m possessed! I’m not, it's just the… ya know…” Danny rambled off hurriedly hoping against hope that his parents wouldn’t try to send him to decontamination … again… (Thanks to his ghost half, it burned in places he didn’t ever want to burn)
“You’re possessed Dann-o?!” Jack exclaimed instantly pulling a Fenton gun from somewhere on his person and brandishing it towards his son.
Danny threw his hands up and waved them placatingly at his father. “NO! Just the normal stuff! The contamination from the portal accident set it off. I got too close to the sensor!” He says quickly ignoring how his parents seem to flinch slightly.
His parents shared a look before his father seemed to deflate, seemingly upset at the fact his son wasn’t possessed. “I thought we fixed that... “ Jack says with a frown. “But, we can’t let the school know we may have messed it up! I know we’ll just run the tests again and fix it in the night!”
“Yeah, that would be- Wait what?” Danny blinks. Why couldn’t they just go down and fix it normally? Of course, his parents had to be weird about this too. “Thanks… Is there anything you need from me to help?”
And with those words said he almost instantly regretted it. “Well… We would really like to know why your ecto signature lines up perfectly with Phantom’s but perhaps that can wait.” Maddie offered with a small amused smile.
Danny sputtered at that, “Wh-What?”
“We set up a monitoring system so we can tell which ghosts most frequent the school… Phantom was the one that triggered the shield twice today. There actually wasn’t anything else that did,” Maddie explained with a deepening frown.
“You sure you’re not possessed, son?” Jack asked again this time sounding almost defeated in how, well, normal a volume he asked that. The hidden meaning was all too obvious especially after he mentioned his accident…
They thought he was dead! The portal killed him! And as the growing pit of dread grew into Danny’s stomach he couldn’t help but feel awful knowing they were correct in that assumption, well at least half right anyhow.
“Yeah… I’m… I’m me…” Danny managed out his voice cracking
“O-oh hun....” Maddie sniffed.
“But it’s not I… I’m me, I promise and I’m not all dead. I still have a heartbeat and everything!” Danny argued or rather tried to as his mother was quick to kneel before him taking his face in her hands as tears bubbled down her chin.
“Mom really I’m like … half at most. More human with a side of ghostly abilities ya know?”
“Oh, it’s okay Dann-o… You're still my son, I know ya are. It’s been almost a year since that accident and you’re mostly still you.” Jack said. “Just worse grades and more hormones and-”
“Thanks, guys really,” Danny sighed in relief both at dodging the potentially awkward birds and ghostly bees talk as well as the tepid acceptance he was getting. Awkward though it may be it was still acceptance nonetheless.  He was happy for it just the same.
“Maybe while we work on fixing up the shield to ignore Phantom’s signature you can tell us about some things?” Maddie asked sniffling again as she looked over her son’s face trying her best to hold herself together and not outright bawl at the thought she had killed her youngest child.
“Y-yeah… I’ve been wanting to tell you about this for a while now but, well, ya know…” Danny offered uselessly.
“I think it’s us who should apologize for that, son but maybe we can just all go get some triple chocolate fudge milkshakes and go deal with that shield after dinner?” Jack offered with a smile, ever the one to break up tension.
“Yeah, yeah… that sounds good.” Danny agreed. Well, it wasn't how he was expecting this to go, but he was kinda glad it ended up like this. Maybe now they could repair their strained relationship.
As Maddie ruffled up Danny’s hair the teen offered her his first genuine smile in almost a year.
