Buck had texted Tommy in their group chat that they were going to be late when the negotiations pushed them into their first hour of OT. Tommy had replied with a quip about the last one home buying dinner. Eddie had pressed down on the message until a little heart popped up on the side. Then the hostage-taker had agreed to let first responders in to rescue a wannabe hero who’d been bleeding out on the floor from a gunshot for over three hours.

Tommy starts picking Christopher up at school and the moms start shooting Eddie nasty looks and Buck consoling ones because it must be hard seeing your ex bounce back so soon after a divorce and 'how is Christopher handling all this?' Eddie's poor lawyer having to deal with not just updating one will, but three!!

Buck feels as if he’s going to vibrate out of his skin as the elevator carries them upwards to his floor, the need swirling inside of him and growing with each change of floor number. He doesn’t know how Eddie and Tommy are acting so calm as they bracket him. He envies their calmness a bit, and even worries that maybe he’s overthinking this (again). Buck looks to his left and sees Tommy staring at him with a hunger that has Buck swallowing, his mouth suddenly dry. He dares a look to his right, and Eddie’s eyes are roaming along Buck with a possessive quality that has him shivering.

Future AU where Buck and Tommy are established and in a serious long term relationship, living together, happy and content. And then something happens to Eddie, he ends up in the hospital (again) and Buck takes care of Christopher (again), only this time he's not alone. Maybe Chris stays with Buck and Tommy this time, and Tommy starts to pitch in. He takes care of Chris while Buck's at work, he takes Chris to visit Eddie, he helps Chris with his homework and takes him to school, and Tommy never really thought about having kids, but now he is. He knows Buck wants kids, he sees the way he is with Christopher and Jee-Yun, and he knows Buck would be an amazing dad. Tommy has just never felt like he was in a stable enough place in his life for kids, but now maybe he is.

And then Eddie gets out of the hospital and he's still not 100% so he stays with Buck and Tommy, too. He can't take care of Christopher on his own right now, he can't even take care of himself. So Buck and Tommy help him, too. They drive him to physical therapy, they help with Chris, they become their own oddly shaped family. So as Eddie gets better, he starts doing what he can and the three of them (Buck, Eddie, and Tommy) find a rhythm. Slowly they become ingrained in each other's lives, even more ingrained than before.

Eddie gets better and he feels like he's imposed enough, so one night over beers after Christopher has gone to bed, he tells Buck and Tommy he's going to move back to his own house. Buck knew this moment was coming but he's not ready for it. He makes futile excuses: is Eddie sure, what if he's not ready, maybe he should wait a little longer... but Eddie has been cleared to go back to work. There's nothing really keeping him here anymore.

Nothing except Buck and Tommy, and this family they've forged. It's Tommy who eventually, calmly and casually, says, "You could stay."

Like it's simple. Like it doesn't change everything between them. But of course they all know things have been changing between them for months. Eddie has seen the way Buck and Tommy are together, those small touched and intimate moments, and he wants that. Not with just anyone, but with them.

Tommy nudges Buck and they have this heated conversation with their eyebrows until Buck concedes and scoots across the couch. When he kisses Eddie, it's soft and slow and it should feel like the world is tilting on its axis but it doesn't. It feels safe and warm and sure. It feels like Eddie is finally home.

Too Late

Everything in Eddie's life seems to come too late. He comes home too late from his tour to save his marriage. He's too late to save her, no matter how badly he wants too. Even after all that happens, even after he thinks he's got it all figured out, he's too late to realize that he's in love with his best friend and now Buck has a boyfriend— a boyfriend that he considers to be a good friend. It would be so wrong for Eddie to confess his feelings now, it's not Buck's fault that he took so long to figure out that his feelings were more than friendly. It's not Tommy's fault either, even if Eddie is kicking himself a little for not noticing how close they were getting. Then he starts to have more feelings he doesn’t understand. He’s jealous of Buck. Not because the younger man is now out and proud, something that Eddie never even thought he could be, but because he gets to kiss Tommy.

Eddie talks himself out of it. There’s absolutely know way that he has feelings for Buck and Tommy. One, because they’re now both taken which means he’s late yet again, and two because that means wishing that two of his best friends would break up so that Eddie gets to be with one of them. He’s not that awful is he? Maybe he should’ve taken Bobby’s offer to see his priest. There has to be something fundamentally wrong with him and the universe is punishing him for it. Eddie doesn’t have time to talk himself out of that ‘the universe hates him theory’ because he thinks about it on the way to Buck’s house for a beer and what he opens the door to has really cemented the idea in his head.

He has a key to Buck’s apartment, so naturally he just let himself in. What he really should have been thinking about was how Buck was no longer single and he shouldn’t have been taken so far off guard by the way that they’re laying across the sofa, the sofa Eddie helped Buck pick out, and Tommy’s got his tongue in the blonde’s mouth and Buck’s shirt is riding up while his hands are groping Tommy’s ass from beneath him. Eddie cringes as the door slams shut behind him and Buck tilts his head back against the arm of the couch to look at him upside down.

“Sorry— sorry, I thought… we were hanging out today,” Eddie frowns, looking around the place like it might show the date and tell him he got it wrong.

“We are,” Buck answers, both men getting up and straightening out their clothes. “I thought… my place might be the best place to breech this suggestion,” He says, shrugging shyly.

That doesn’t help Eddie’s confusion.

“Sorry we got started without you,” Tommy smirks, “Buck is hard to resist.”

Eddie isn’t going to argue. This must be some kind of fever dream. He knows what Tommy is suggesting. “I… I thought I was too late,” Eddie murmurs with a frown.

The other men both give him genuine smiles while Tommy holds out his hand to bring the third man in. “You’re never too late, Eddie.”

Tommy's army days were actually with SHIELD. He made friends with Team Delta (Phil Coulson, Natasha Romanov, Clint Barton). For reasons he left and ended up with LAFD. He remained in occasional contact. He went for a drink when they were in town to deal with Stark. He appreciated that Natasha just stared when he came out versus Clint's fake surprise.

He asked for a favor during the cruise ship rescue. The cost was that he had to join a new taskforce between SHIELD and LAFD/LAPD or SHIELD fulltime again.

Tommy agreed thinking he'd probably just go full SHIELD. But that was before he met Eddie and Buck.

"I have one word for you, Tommyboy- polyamory. Love triangles are so last century I'm told."

"Thanks, Barton."
