#brienne is perfect and Jaime doesn’t deserve her

in cersei and jamie‘s relationship, youd think that jamie would have all the power because he can physically dominate cersei and he does in the books but the one who has the most power in this relationship is cersei. she is able to manipulate jamie and make jamie do her bidding. like he could’ve been lord of casterly rock. he was the heir and he would’ve had a beautiful wife and had children and had the title and had the ranking but cersei told him “no you’re going to be a knight of the kingsguard so we can always be close to each other.” jamie gave up his whole life for cersei jamie gave up having a wife having a child having his own free will for cersei and jamie is so blinded by cersei’s “love” if that’s what you want to call it that he just looked past all of her terrible qualities and then when he meets Brianne and sees this woman who is really perfect in every way, but not like beautiful and is still so kind even though people are cruel to her. he changes his perspective on how someone should love you and how someone should act towards you, and when he comes back to kingslanding, after being with Brianne, he sees cersei’s flaws. when she burns down the hand of the kings tower and he sees the madness in her eyes and sees all the awful things she does and then when he leaves to riverrun to go take it from the blackfish and she sends the letter he’s so over it. he’s so over this shit she pulls and the way she treats people the way she treats him he can’t take it anymore.
also jaime says cersei is the only women he’s ever been with. jaime is this beautiful highborn knight with golden curls and a killer smile, he had girls drooling over him all the time but never even looked their way. then he meets brienne who he is forced to be in close proximity with and that is the first time he has ever had an interaction like that with a women that wasn’t cersei, that we know of but i feel like if he did it would’ve been mentioned.

That post about the concept of deserving when it comes to ASOIAF makes me think of the arguments about Jaime deserving Brienne
i mean i obviously hold the same opinion on that whole conversation too. this is a fictional story where relationships serve a thematic purpose. i can understand doylist criticism of certain trends in grrm’s writing (like the age gaps), but i personally will never give a shit about what a character “deserves” because they are not real people. they are tools to tell a story. brienne being a good person doesn’t mean her romantic arc being with an ideal/perfect partner that “deserves her” or whatever would make an interesting fictional story. jb is extremely thematically central as a relationship when it comes to exploring gender, constructs of beauty and ugliness, the battle between cynicism vs idealism, and synthesis when it comes to interrogating knighthood and its deeper existential meanings in the context of the text. if you take out the uglier parts of it then that story is no longer there, or the story is not as strong. i like jb bc i think it is a very thematically functioning dynamic, that is also very interesting to follow in canon. and i like the dynamic at a surface level too. i am fine with ppl who do not like it or care for it, but this brand of criticism means nothing to me personally. if you want more ugly female characters to be given romantic arcs that is understandable, which would mean a diversification of relationship dynamics, but this is one example with a specific intent, and it excels at that in my eyes.

sooo i saw you answered an ask about jaime's redemption arc and i really liked what you said about how the fandom perceives him, and felt the need to share/add, because he's one of my favorite characters in the series and i genuinely think he's one of GRRM's masterpieces. it frustrates me and saddens me when the fandom focuses on his redemption arc, especially because i totally agree with you - even if he does somehow "become better," that is NOT going to last.
so i never saw jaime's arc as one of redemption - rather of identity. he talks a big game about the sins he should be vs shouldn't be shamed for, but he has zero regrets about bran (other than, i guess, the trouble it ultimately caused?).
and i've recently been rereading the books, and his identity arc is so clear to me? tbf i did just finish ASOS and am only like 10% into AFFC, so there's a lot of material to review, but i still see his primary "struggle" as whether he wants to be a lannister or not, rather than whether he wants to be a better person or not. i think the fandom conflates these two things - his disquiet with his lannister identity must mean he's "healing" or "becoming better" but i think jaime is far simpler than that. when his hand is cut off, his inherent identity as a lannister is permanently maimed, and now he has to reckon with what that means. brienne is such a good counterpoint because 1) she is as idealistic as he used to be, something that he is angry to have lost and something that, let's face it, is a very un-lannister part of him, and 2) any interest or desire that he might feel for her would be very un-lannister indeed. who is he, when his lannister identity is no longer perfect golden armor for him? who is he, without the all-consuming passion for his lannister sister, and who is he if someone else - someone like brienne - potentially could replace that interest?
jaime is such a wonderful character to me that when the fandom reduces him to a redemption arc, i grieve because they're missing the best parts of his character. you simply cannot judge him as "honorable" or "dishonorable"; i find it quite beside the point but anyway, it's just not the right framework for "judging" jaime. you get the sense that jaime's gonna jaime, basically, in the same way that a tiger or a tornado is going to do what it does. i love a good redemption arc but i think anyone holding their breath for jaime to become their little meowmeow is... in for a rough time.
I've been sitting on this for a while, because I wanted to give it the full thought it deserves. I saw a post fairly recently that talks about how romantic the writing in Jaime’s chapters is, and how he is, at his core, a disappointed idealist, and I really agree with that sentiment. I think Jaime’s story is really one about identity, rather than redemption, as you put it. He has to fundamentally question who he is, down to the pillars of himself he thought were unshakeable, being a Lannister, being Cersei’s other half, being a knight. That doesn’t mean he’s necessarily going to rebuild himself into a better person, just a different one. And I think it’s so fascinating that he never really regrets the truly horrible things he’s done, that the narrative is ultimately going to make him face, and it’s so tied into how the outside world perceives him, influencing how he perceives himself. He’s really one for embracing his personal myth so wholeheartedly, whether it’s constructed by outside forces, or by himself. I’m not sure if this is the right way to put it, but Jaime’s one of the characters that seems almost half aware that this is a story, even if he doesn’t know where its truly headed. But I thinks that part of the reason why Jaime isn’t going to be “redeemed” as he’s too caught up in his personal narrative to see what he’s done in the context of other people. So much of AFFC is him thinking about what other people think of him, rather than him thinking about them as individual people, if that makes sense? And it’s just that his current narrative about himself has fundamentally shifted and he’s still trying to figure out how he wants to write it.
I hope this was a decent response, I’m just fascinated by characters who are already thinking about how their stories are being told, and will be told.

Since when did liking a work of fiction or a fictional character for that matter gets you hate in the REAL WORLD???
Fiction is supposed to be an escape from Reality. Not a realm for your activism or to display your non-existent moral superiority. Liking a controversial character doesn't mean that you're gonna imitate the said character. You just find that character fun to analyse.
Fiction does not effect the reality. It effects your emotions. If it didn't then every piece of art would be in the trash by now. It's the ability of the art to draw out your emotions is what makes it so valuable.
When someone is into "R" rated content does it mean that they're gonna be violent??? Hell No! By that logic every person who watched GoT got up one fine day and started swinging swords at other people and started to bang their siblings and aunts.
My Favourite character in GoT was Jaime Lannister so does that mean I'm a Sister F*cking Knight that attempted to murder kids? Fuck No! I hated that Version of Jaime. But when I saw the Bathtub Scene I felt more sympathy for him. Considering the fact that that's not even the first time we get the revelation where Jaime is capable of doing good as he saves Brienne from getting r*ped.
Catalyn Stark hated Jon and treated him Awfully so does that mean that she deserved what was coming for her???? Fuck no! Then why the double standard with Snape??
Me liking Severus Snape should not effect you in anyway. It's not a red flag where you point at me and tell other people "Hey this guy stans an Incel who's also a child abuser so we need to ostracize him over his preferences of a fictional character" You're no different than the fictional bullies you stan. Bullying other people because they like something that you don't won't make you morally superior. It just shows how insecure you bastards are.
Calling Snape stans 'Snape Apologists'(Derived from R*pe apologists) or 'Nazi Sympathizers' just shows how shallow and nauseatingly hypocritical you are.
We know that Snape is not perfect. He has flaws and we literally put a disclaimer saying "That does not excuse some of his deeds" countless times cause instead of coming up with counter arguments you just try to look for loopholes where you think you'll have an edge.

Inspired by the Sandman casting news, God of Love Jaime and Goddess of the Underworld, the Dead, and the Forgotten Brienne.
I was hoping to write some God of Love Jaime today; this is actually super weird but I hope you enjoy it!
“There you are.” Brienne looked up from the open chest cavity of one Jeyne Snow and found Margaery Tyrell staring at her from the open doorway. “We were going to catch a double feature at the cinema. Want to join us?”
Brienne blinked. “Sure. Just let me finish up.”
Margaery gave Brienne a thousand-watt grin and headed back out into the corridor. She would be with the other doctors in their little group: Sansa, Ygritte, and Tysha. They were all doctors above ground: plastic surgery, gynaecology, trauma, paediatrics. They all did their best to help the living while Brienne remained down here, in the basement, with the dead. While the others squealed and blanched over the prospect of spending day in, day out with corpses, Brienne had no such qualms. After all, she was the Goddess of the Underworld, Patron of the Dead and Forgotten.
The Stranger.
Placing a pouch of salt and herbs beside Jeyne’s form, Brienne ensured she was stowed properly before showing and dressing for an evening out with her...she was loathe to say friends. In the rare occasions she had taken human form, Brienne had never grown close to anyone. It was easier in the Age of Dragons, where she could drift from town to town along the King’s Road; giving burial rites to those who needed it and enacting justice to those who deserved it. But times had changed. People sought out connection more than ever before.
And now, Brienne supposed, she had people who sought her out.
Sansa linked her arm with Brienne’s as they left King’s Landing General Hospital and headed for a multiplex a few streets down. From here she could see the bright lights and long lines; a large poster with a shirtless man dominating the scene. As they grew closer, Brienne realised who it was. Jaime Lannister, rom-com heartthrob who took off his shirt at least seven times within ninety minutes. The girls ogled the poster and the prospect of the double feature.
Brienne just stared; the eyes on the poster following her as she moved to join the back of the line.
“He is so pretty,” Margaery said, letting out a deep sigh at the thought of Jaime Lannister. “You know, I met him on a plane once. His eyes are just...inhuman.” Maybe because he’s not human. “I would give every dragon in my trust fund to sleep with him.”
“Or just to touch his hair. Do you think those are his real muscles?” Sansa, the youngest of the group, swooned. “How high do you think he could lift me?”
The girls chattered on – Ygritte often throwing out negative comments to stir the pot – as they bought their tickets and headed inside. The cinema foyer was packed with single women looking to stare at Ice and Fire magazine’s regular heartthrob of the month, as well as couples hoping that a romantic comedy would be the perfect entertainment on Maiden’s Day. His day. As Brienne walked along to the screening room, film posters of his various features – Oathkeeper, The Last Knight, The Things We Do For Love – stared back at her. One even had the audacity to wink as she walked past.
“I’m not feeling too well,” Brienne uttered before they had even entered the screen. “I think I’ll just head home.”
But Margaery encircled her wrist and dragged her inside. “No, you don’t. I know you’ve had a bad spell of romance, but a Jaime Lannister movie marathon is just the thing to cheer you up!”
Sansa squeezed Brienne’s hand. “Marge is right. Forget about Hyle and Ben and the others. They’re not worth your time. Just sit back and enjoy the gorgeousness that is Jaime Lannister.”
A woman sitting behind them patted Brienne’s shoulder. “Believe me, it’s just nice to enjoy the fantasy. After all, there’s no men like him!”
A few others around them tittered; the line clearly from one of his movies. Brienne had heard it before, from his very own lips. It was something he was fond of saying and had earned a cane to the back of the ankles from the Crone. Brienne was loathed to stay; the crackle of energy in the room disquieting. But it would seem suspicious if she were to just up and leave. After all, to them she was Brienne Tarth, a medical examiner who had been the centre of a bet by a group of surgeons. Her friends had tried to comfort her, tried to get her to open up; share her feelings.
The problem is that Brienne didn’t feel.
“I dreamed of you.”
A sigh went round the room at the opening scene of The Last Knight. Jaime Lannister, dressed in a crimson tunic, stared longingly at the woman he had just rescued from a bearpit. While the rest of the cinemagoers watched the film, Brienne grew more and more uncomfortable. All the hair on her arms stood up; goose flesh covering her skin. When she looked back at the screen, Jaime Lannister was staring directly at the camera. At her.
“I thought you’d never come to one of these things. You told me I was a fool for acting.” Brienne frowned. She turned to Sansa, who was mouthing different words. “They can’t see me. Can’t hear me.”
“Jaime.”
Upon the large screen, the God of Love walked around the screen ambivalent to the plot and direction and the actual movie that was shot. He lounged in an armchair, picking lint off his shoulder, before offering her a shit-eating grin. “I can’t believe you’re here. Watching me. I’m touched, Brienne.”
“I was dragged here.”
“Against your will?” The image on screen shook his head. “I don’t think so. You are the Goddess of the Dead. Nothing ever happens without your say so.”
“Including using our powers in the land of the living. Or have you forgotten what happened last time?”
The Jaime on screen waved a hand in her direction. The scene changed on screen to the King’s Road but Jaime remained. He peered out at the multiplex. “Building a cinema on the grounds of an old sept. Bad form. Holy ground doesn’t change, Brienne: you know that.”
She did. Everything upon the soil was fair game. They could be their godly selves within these four walls. As Jaime proved as he stepped out of the screen. Pulled apart the layer between reality and fantasy; his costume from The Last Knight fading and replaced by a simple white shirt and slacks. Around her, the room came to a sudden stop. Fallen popcorn hovered in mid-air; conversations fell into nothingness. The whole world had stopped for them.
Jaime held out his hand. She stared at it, confused. “Why did you come here?”
He shrugged. “I dreamed of you.”
She scoffed; the line from the film ringing in her ears. “We don’t dream.”
“Sometimes I do. They are always of you.”
“I don’t...I don’t feel, Jaime.” She had told him that the last time they had met, in the ruins of Harrenhal with rain hovering in the sky. “I can’t feel for you like I—like I want to.”
His smile was soft; his eyes warm with adoration. “You forget, I can feel everything. And I can feel you. Trust me.”
Her hand slid into his and she was brought up from her seat. Brienne suddenly recalled when she’d offered him a hand; when he, full of love and innocence, had taken a life while in human form. She had been the only god who had not turned away. Brienne had held him and protected him and together they had slain the men who had wanted to bring fire and destruction upon this very city.
“I loved you then,” he whispered, as if able to read her thoughts. “You loved me, too. Can I kiss you?”
She nodded. Lifting on his toes, Jaime brushed his lips against hers. Her first kiss. Soft and gentle; his mouth tasting sweet and tart like the red berries she had watched him devour in the Seven Heavens. Brienne chased that taste as her hands found purchase on his shoulders; as his arms tightened around her waist. After a moment, Jaime pulled away to take a deep breath. He then kissed her hand and walked towards the silver screen.
She followed.

Thoughts on Braime ?
I don't hate it as a ship, and in fanfic it can be really funny because they bring the snark.
But I don't see it as an endgame canon ship. All the meaningful aspects of their connection are independent of sex and romance. It's about self-discovery and honesty and choosing what you contribute to the world regardless of what it gives back.
They are not each other's consolation prize or redemption vehicle. Brienne doesn't need romantic validation from an embittered man in a mid-life crisis still obsessing over his lover's infidelity, Jaime will not be healed by moving on to a "better woman". The whole concept is flawed and trite.
The poetry is in knighthood. Jaime knighting Brienne is a more intimate and healing act than sex would ever be.
Jaime's connection to Cersei is one that is most poetically concluded in a kind of reconciliation. Not because Cersei deserves it, but because Jaime is not her victim. Within that relationship they are as bad as each other, and there is healing in recognizing that and choosing to be tender to each other at the end.
As undignified and humiliating as show!Braime was done for everyone involved, I think it is not that far off from the book ending. Brienne writing Jaime's history, both true and euphemistic at the same time, is the perfect image to end on for their relationship, and it is not something that D&D had the writing chops to create themselves. It actually epitomizes the importance of storytelling they could not bother to include anywhere else.

found a tweet that says exactly what i feel about shipping discourse in fandom these days - https://twitter.com/actualgina/status/1388318986186629124 --- "glad everyone is talking about how it's totally cool to find villains hot, would love to extend this conversation to include the weird way romance/love interests are treated in YA as Correct, Morally-Based Choices rather than about, like, a character's feelings?"
i know this is about YA (and that's rlly good because YA fandoms are... worse) but i've seen this anti jb posts so many times because jaime is an asshole etc like Brienne WANTS him???? this wjole idea of he doesn't deserve her or whatever because she's Good is just bs, and this tweet is more articulate about it lol.
oh god I know like... I have a top five bullshit antijb arguments but 'she deserves better' and 'he's an ass so he shouldn't be with her' is right there and not going anywhere like I don't know how to explain to people anymore that especially in a realistic series you fall for people who have faults/aren't perfect all the time and the thing is that she might be Good™ (tho she has faults too THAT SHE OVERCOMES THANKS TO HIM TOO AND VICEVERSA) but like.. if he's who she wants and he wants her back then that's all there is to it? like no one gets love interests cardboard cut for them that are so very perf for each other except in fairytales and not even there like..... idk I don't read ya at all and what little I read was atypical so I'm not even touching that discourse but this concept that relationships need to be moral is just... bleh. it's ships and irl it doesn't work like that anyway like also the concept that you might have issues™ and being in love with someone else helps you overcome them is so foreign? bc that's what I like about half of the stuff I like which implies the characters start from like either having faults or issues or having it shitty but okay then *MEGA SHRUG*

Brienne of Tarth for the ask game? And Margaery Tyrell?
Two amazing ladies. 🥰 Thank you for the ask!
Brienne of Tarth
Sexuality Headcanon: Pan
Gender Headcanon: Cis female
A ship I have with said character: Brienne x Tormund (show only), Brienne x Sansa, and Brienne x Margaery. I love the idea of Brienne x Margaery (especially from the show) because of their connection through Renly, and I feel like Margaery would really appreciate Brienne for how amazing she is!
A BROTP I have with said character: Brienne & Podrick are the perfect BROTP, but I also love Brienne & Sansa, Brienne & Catelyn, and Brienne & Arya.
A NOTP I have with said character: Brienne x Jaime (unless it's in a really good AU). I know everyone loves Braime, but I'm not a fan of canon!Jaime, and I think she deserves better.
A random headcanon: Brienne loves reading books about knights and princesses, and when she was younger, she was reading one of those stories when some boy made fun of her for it, so she threw the book at him.
General Opinion over said character: Absolute boss with a side of sweetness. How can you not love her?!
...
Margaery Tyrell
Sexuality Headcanon: Lesbian
Gender Headcanon: Cis female
A ship I have with said character: Margaery x Brienne, Margaery x Sansa, and Margaery x Sansa x Brienne (because they are all three awesome and deserve to find happiness in each other).
A BROTP I have with said character: Margaery & Loras, Margaery & Leonette, and Margaery & Renly. Let's be honest though, Margaery spends most of her time around gay guys.
A NOTP I have with said character: Margaery x Daenerys. I don't know why. It's just one of those pairings that really bothers me for no specific reason.
A random headcanon: Margaery loves flirting. She will literally flirt with anyone, and it means nothing to her aside from some fun. It's gotten to the point where she doesn't even mean to do it, but it's instinctual. Her girlfriends always get exasperated with her because she'll flirt with their brothers, sisters, mother, and father without even realizing it!
General Opinion over said character: Book!Margaery wasn't as interesting as show!Margaery (sorry, not sorry). I loved show!Margaery, whereas book!Margaery was kinda bleh to me.

2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 26, 27 from ask game
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
oh, it's actually hard to answer bc pretty often my otps can work as brotps for me as well. it also means that when i can't ship some characters they don't work for me as friends either. not to mention that in asoiaf i'm open to many ships, and if i'm not very passionate about some it's not a sign i can't see them in romantic light.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
may i say any sansa ship? 😭 as well as sansa herself lmao. idk generally i can't ship characters i don't like because i'm just not interested. and it's not to say i don't like book!sansa (show!sansa is another case 💀), i just don't find her arc as intriguing and epic as arcs of some other characters. however, it's absolutely her obnoxious fandom's fault that i don't want to touch anything about her now, pairings including. sansaery? pass. sansan? i used to have a soft spot for them in my heart but now? nah. sansa x anyone? pls have mercy, she's already a fandom bicycle.
and jonsa ofc. i would never mind some crack ship as i do this one if not for their obnoxious stans that did way too much to list there right now. but this burning desire to persuade every rock on the street that your crack ship is canon will never stop being ridiculous lmao
also braime. tbh i used to low-key like them but some of their stans weirded my away lol. i get that not all of them are like that but still. it's generally my great pain when i see braime/brienne/jaime stans who are also dany/targ antis. every time i see them i cackle and run away as fast as i can crying from disappointment lmao. it's really a pity because i'm either very neutral or like in my own way all three of them.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
jonrya it is! i never hated them, you know, but they never were more than siblings and brotp to me. however, later i encountered the deluded crack ship fandom that shall not be named and understood that if there is any possible romance for jon with any of his sisters-cousins we all know which one it will be lmao. also their stans are very sweet and i really like many of their takes on arya and jon! i generally love relationships of jon and arya very much so it wasn't that difficult in practice to see them in a quite different light.
7. Is there anything you used to like but can't stand now?
meta culture lmao. reading different analysis and interpretations of the text used to be very interesting to me (and still is tbh but in other fandoms) though asoiaf is a different case. imo many people aren't honest in their so called theories and analyses. i get that all of us are biased but some "meta writers'" denial of their own biases influence fandom in a bad way. it looks like too many people run to them to get answers to their questions about any minor detail as if they were grrm himself. yk instead of using their own reading comprehension lmao. you see how this meta culture ruined fandom just looking at the most delusional stans and shippers who spread their agenda by writing endless text posts full of nonsense and bullshit but styled as oh so intellectual and thoughtful analysis. it's insane how many people actually buy it and don't check canon accuracy of such claims themselves. it got to the ridiculous point when random people try to argue with you with some far-fetched embarrassing "theories" as if they were canon facts or quotes straight up from a fanfic because they read somewhere some other confused soul's post and got from a context that this quote is canon (despite the fact that it wasn't written in grrm's style at all but some people can't use their brains even if their lives depended on it it seems).
anyway it's become too long and rambly already so tldr. because of such "neutral unbiased" analyses i got the habit of fact checking almost everything i see in such posts. there's only a small amount of meta writers from targ/dany/jon/arya stans that i trust because i know by practice and following them for some time that they don't pull anything out of nowhere, back up everything they say with canon quotes, don't decontextualize anything and (that is the most important thing to me) are reasonable and open to discussion unlike so many bnfs nowadays.
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?
ah, not in this fandom yet, god bless! i think i'm not loud enough for the needed amount of time to deserve it lol. but since i'm not going anywhere soon maybe one day i will 😂
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
robert baratheon and tywin lannister, obviously. tbh it's pretty hard for me to hate any characters because you know. they're fictional lmao. just lines on paper, they can't hurt you. and even such dudes as tywin or robert don't get real distaste from me if they're written well enough. my problem with them lies not only in their canon crimes and shitty consequences of those but in fandom's (or at least some parts of it) unwillingness to acknowledge that they're canonically written as shitty, not as stan/pity/worship material. tywin isn't as clever as some think and robert is a coward outside of battlefield, not to mention some absolutely disgusting denial of his nature from targ antis only because the man happened to be the most vocal targ hater in-universe so these folks feel like he is their main book representative and whitewash him completely lmao
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
uugh idk even. i'm either low-key interested (or used to be at least so i can stay pretty neutral for the sake of nostalgia lol) or too indifferent to really care.
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn't? Why?
all my faves have their own crowd of haters i'm afraid 😭 but let me say rhaegar. even among some dany/targ stans my man is so misunderstood lmao. it's not even his fault i dare say it's fanon about his half-imagined crimes that somehow got widespread to the unbelievable degree. and when i say they're half-imagined i'm being very generous actually. ofc he isn't perfect, no one in asoiaf is. and yes, he's a pre-series dead minor character but almost all little information about him is actually positive, not to mention the narrative itself that doesn't paint him as a villain or just a shitty dude. on the contrary, he's an idealized to some degree dead prince who could've been a good king (like some other historical targaryens, jacaerys, baelor breakspear, aemon son of jaehaerys, etc.), a mysterious yet tragic figure. i have much to say about why it's so popular to shit on him in fandom but yeah. his haters should send their complaints to grrm instead, no one forced the man to write him like that lol. and i mean that no one has to like him ofc. but it's misinterpretation of the text to claim he was intentionally written as a villain or smth by grrm.
12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn't? Why?
i don't know if it counts as unpopular but i would say tyrion's arc as a whole because i enjoy his character and like in my own way. i can get why some people don't like him but this man will always have his own place in my heart i must admit.
13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
is this unpopular tho?.. ok but renly wouldn't make a terrible king. i dare say he would be better than both robert and stannis. yes, he wasn't shown as perfect and i don't claim this. he wouldn't be the best or the most brilliant or the most just or noble. yet still better than his brothers. his flaws weren't anything other high lords didn't have, his mistakes weren't anything other lords and kings didn't do. in many ways he would make a better job than robert or stannis, too bad he died so early, even though i get why it was important for the narrative.
26. Most shippable character?
well generally for me it's the ones i love the most lol. jonerys/snowstorm is my never dying otp but i admit my sins, sometimes i just see dany with other characters (often from other fandoms pls don't @ me). however, since dany is THE fave of mine it means i would rather twist the other guy or girl to fit into the good match for her than twist her for another character in my new born crack ship lol. and i never stay for too long with the ships with which i feel they don't really fit and don't do justice for each other lol. maybe that's the reason i'm not much of a rare shipper / crack shipper afshdjdb
27. Least shippable character?
everyone i don't like? 😭 as i've said sansa for the reasons above lol. you can insert many others in her place lmao

VERY happy i can fill this out because i’ve been so productive this year lol. also this is all gonna be jb bc ive been RELENTLESS and spamming and i would apologize but i wont lmao
1. jb eros/psyche au.
i am talking about everything i have done for the au btw, because i’ve done quite a handful of things and honestly i really love all of them--even the doodle ones which rarely happens. anyway, i love this au in general. i think the tale is perfect for them, and i’m happy with the works that i managed to put out most esp this one that’s based on canova’s sculpture of eros and psyche. translating sculpture into digital art was interesting since it was all about converting the weight and structure of the sculpture into the screen and i think i managed to do it imo! i love how brienne looks heavy in his arms, i love how strong jaime looks holding her up and i especially love the way i shaded her dress to mimic the lines that the statue has. all in all, this au slapped and i actually want to do more of it but i have no inspiration right now.
2. jb as classical art series.
honestly i never thought that this was going to be a series lol i thought it was just a two time thing, but then i did another one, and then another one, and then another one and now here we are. i love all the pieces that i’ve done for it actually. my favourite thing is that they’re all not direct translations of the original art. there are some aspects that i’ve taken and adapted while also putting my own flair into it. i love the reverse colour scheme with klimt’s kiss and my own rendition of it. the gold being the accent highlight in a field of murky brown/black whereas klimt has the black squares present to emphasis the richness of the gold and yellows. i also like the little thing i did where i put the geometric shapes outside of the subject instead of inside (what he did). i put on the tags that i didnt like how it turned out but i actually like it lol i just didn’t like how long it took me i get too impatient with my art i think. anyway. i love this whole series sm i think all the pieces have their own character, and tbh i always get nervous adding another piece into this just because all the ones that i’ve done has been so well received i don’t want to be a disappointment lool. regardless, i love classical art and i love jb and i love being able to put the two together hehe we love to be self indulgent
3. la belle fleur sauvage commission.
aka THIS commission that was based from SD’s fic, la belle fleur sauvage. some behind the scenes with that one--that one took me SO long to do, like it was taking longer than i had wanted and i felt very bad and i am forever thankful for sd’s patience 😭😭😭. i really can’t be too mad though since i was working on the third year of my degree, but i still would’ve wanted to finish it sooner than i did. but as for the art itself---i actually love it lol. i always say to zoom in on my stuff to see all the details but i WISH folks would zoom in on that because it’s so big and so intricate. i love how everything turned out; i love how rich the colours are, i love the composition for all three panels, i love how the SKY looked like actually that’s the first time i sat down and painted clouds with that technique and i am so happy and pleased with how it looked im using it for everything LOL, i love jaime’s outfit in the 2nd panel---i actually designed a whole outfit for that and he DOES have his pouches and daggers, etc. stuff that he would have with him if he was a mercenary, but because of the cropping, those details were taken out but it’s THERE. i love the colours and the shading on the 3rd panel. it looks so soft and romantic and it’s everything 😭😭. honestly i didnt know if i was able to finish whole three panels just because of how big the project seemed, but tbqh this piece really pushed me as an artist and im really happy that i had the chance to work on it (-’:
4. early morning.
this one is a more recent piece and i was thinking post canon jaime/brienne married and either living in casterly rock or evenfall hall. originally the sheets were gonna be red with the gold brocade but i just made it green to make their location more ambiguous. they’re in a castle because of the finery, but which castle i have no idea. anyway i love their faces here in particular--jaime because it’s not often that i draw him old (this is the second time i drew old jaime i think?) and i love how he turned out here. i love how he looks like a silver fox and a dilf and we really do love that for brienne. full disclosure, i have no idea how to draw older folks since i don’t have a lot of practice in that area so im glad my lack of experience doesn’t show lmao. i also love how soft brienne looks here! the little smile on her lips is very sweet, her body language and how relax she seems is very telling abt her confidence in this scene also i think i drew her hands hella well haha. all in all i think it’s a really sweet art! and the full version is not so bad either jaime’s ass was referenced from marble sculptures so you know im aiming for Quality. but i love this headcanon of a younger brienne tiring jaime out, i’ve read a handful fics about it and im happy i can do my own version of it hehe
5. unravel.
wow we love domesticity. someone said that if you compile all my ns*w art of them together it’s like they haven’t left their bed ever since they got together and you know what? love that for them it’s what they deserve. anyway i chose this one because of how sensual and simple it is. their body language really does all the talking ; jaime’s hand pulling on the ties on her shift, her hand on his hair, how soft and lazy their kiss looks--it’s enough to tell the story me thinks! i just love how simple this whole thing is but it’s very effective. there’s really not much to it besides what you see but that’s really enough.
i am actually very proud of myself with how productive i’ve been. it’s really not often that i get as much drive and energy to post so much art. iirc my art tag is nearly 200 content already (i think it’s 180 ish rn?) and honestly that’s a LOT if you told me ill be making more than 100+ content for jb i would’ve been like nah im too lazy for that lmao. but im really proud of myself this year! i think i pushed myself as an artist and i’ve familiarized myself more with my strengths as well as my weaknesses. i have a clear idea on the areas that i need to work on, and i’ve really gotten more comfortable with being happy with my own pieces and i’m trying not to put myself down more if something doesn’t go the way i want it to. also, i’ve had the opportunity to work with more people this year--so for the people who has commissioned me or IS commissioning me rn--- thank you so much for trusting me with your visions 😭😭 ive never expected to get this kind of reception with my art but i am very grateful for all of it.
anyway as for the tagging i tag -- @na-bruma-leve / @dreadwulf / @dilfjaime / @fawnilu BUT i would highly recommend you to come along and snatch this tag meme up like a little raccoon because we all should start being proud of our own works imo !!

for the ask meme: 9, 32 & 49 please!
It’s only been 10 days... It’s only a guess which ask game you sent this for...! ^^; (I am basing it on the fact I read the questions and mused about them for this whole time so I am probably right about the game.) @nossbean
9. What are your favorite fanfics?
Oh no. Oh no. I could and should write POSTS upon POSTS about this.
But I haven’t, because I don’t have the energy to. So you get a cheat version of some of my random favorites from my last pages of my AO3 history. And few special shout outs.
@angel-deux-writes Worth is a wholeass gem and I haven’t commented yet, but I binged it basically today (with exception of first chapter) and I can’t stop yelling about it internally, because the way she says things!! She always has some of my favorite Brienne characterization I get so envious over. There is strength and pride in it, and vulnerability and fear and the acknowledgment that her self-loathing is unfounded yet how hard it is to defend yourself, even knowing all that. I could write essays about it and Angel’s stories in general. Anything by her is a treasure trove, truly.
@samirant Rush Me All Night Long is a fascinating concept, so very well executed and absolutely captivating. Makes me go slack-jawed with awe with how seamless it is. And beyond the craftsmanship of the story form itself, the contents are absolutely epic, too. Intrigue, growth of relationship, dash of humor that is right up my alley, lot of good other characters with their wonderful insights... Nothing to add or take away. Just great. And you KNOW you should check rest of her writing out, too. You won’t regret it.
@ajoblotofjunk is back with another subtly, but powerfully in-depth world story with Baby I Will. How many professions has she gotten degree in already? Because the way she weaves art of playing in bars is so organic. And oh, the connection between Jaime and Brienne... Electrifying, a storm that starts as static sparks as they brush past each other. And I can’t wait to watch it grow. (Also shout out to her absolutely beyond epic gift to me, Petrichor. Which is mindblowingly great and written at haste I cannot comprehend. It couldn’t be more tailored to me and I tear up just thinking about it.)
LadyRhiyana’s Stray Sparks II is the perfect example why I tell someone at least once a week “I wish I could LadyRhiyana this”. Her absolutely amazing skill to capture a whole setting, a whole world of emotions in sometimes as few as 5 to 10 sentences (and not the 30 word sort!) is just... Mesmerizing. I admire it so much and am typically absolutely enamored by her stories. Crossover is also in my history and I am absolutely head-over-heels for it.
@kurikaesu-haru Thirsty is the most endearing, captivating way to combine the two meanings of the word and I adore it to pieces. It’s fun and emotional and hot, and everything it could possibly need to be and then some, in best way possible. And her works contain more and more of gold mines, truly.
@firesign23 is a treasure, to this fandom and to me in particular, for many reasons. But her skill to devastate me with short stories is truly something else.  Odd Socks (link to one of my favorite of the lot, but do give them all a read if you haven’t!) is what I have in my history, but I rec her as a writer 1000%. Her prompt fills are always poignant and not shy of ache and I can only marvel at them all. But also how could I miss out on mentioning her two breathtaking recent stories for fic exchange? Hold Steady is a Journey without ever leaving Winterfell, but the miles traveled by weary, worried, longing hearts in it... Oof. And, of course, I have to mention by hearts and hands made fast because it’s for me and it made me cry real tears more than once (!) and actually yell in real life, like no other story. Real and complicated as the characters deserve to be told, painful and comforting, absolutely breathtaking in the prose... I could rant for days, truly. And truly, wherever you look at her work, you’ll find more of it.
@aviss Skin Deep is just gem, gem, gem. Am I biased because she wrote for me, in a sense? Maybe. But she ACED it in ways I can barely comprehend. Everything I could wish for in the concept is there and more. Sweet pining, absolute besottery and realistic realizations and then hot, earnest resolutions... What a gem. As is rest of her works, really!
32. Past or present tense?
I used to be such a past tense snob. Nothing else for me, no sir. But now I write almost exclusively in present tense. I can’t tell when the shift happened, I think when I was 20 or few years older than that, and I don’t know why, I think I read a good fic, like really good one, and also was trying to bypass my writer’s block by switching it up. And I found a certain freedom in it. A sense that it makes sense for me to go deeper, to be in present turmoil and wax poetics about it for few paragraphs. Because it’s currently happening, instead of retelling if something that has been. It freed me more in past tense, too, though.
It’s odd I don’t remember how and why the shift happened, almost makes me feel sad.
Nowadays I mostly write in past tense because I get too caught up in flashback sort of sequences and can’t make it grammatically correct anymore so I switch everything to past tense. Tomorrow (with you) is prime example.
49. Where do you draw inspiration from?
Anything. The other day, I was bitterly laughing with a friend I could write a piece about stain on floor, create whole 1-3k word story about someone thinking about the stain, etc. Doesn’t matter if it has funny shape or not, known origin or not.
Most often, though, it’s prompts, it’s song lyrics, it’s some kind of thought/belief I have for character that I want to express/see them through some kind of event in way I think they would. Sometimes, it’s specific setting or watching something. Like, there was one (1) almost head-kiss in a kdrama with secret identities and I created a whole 10k word worth story idea off of it... Sometimes, it’s honestly even just a dumb, dumb post. But yes, music/feelings/prompts, I’d say are the main thing.
And as for inspiration drawn for writing itself... That’s a difficult question for me, right now. In kindest, non-rambly way I’d probably say what other people have lived and written.
Send me fanfic question?<3

"Why must there be a scar?" She asked.
"So only you will know what your mark looked like." Septa Roelle explained, listlessly.
"It doesn't make sense. If my soulmate doesn't know what it looked like, how can he know... how can he know it's me?" Her eleven-years-old self retorted.
"He'll have to ask. I've heard someone saying that it's a matter of trust. Most people lie, anyway."
"But... who would lie about such a thing?"
"Oh, my sweet summer child." The septa said, without any sweetness at all. There was nothing sweet about summer.

Aloud, she says, “I don’t hate your guts.” That’s also the truth.

Inevitable Conversations
Fandom: ASoIaF Pairing: Sansa x Sandor Rating: T Summary: Sandor Clegane is a hunter, a monster and ghost hunter to be exact. That is not the problem. The problem is, that for the past few months, he has been in a relationship with one Sansa Stark. Again, the relationship itself is not the problem, the problem is, that he has yet to admit to Sansa that he is, in fact, a monster hunter. Words: 1183 Notes: Written for Friday Night Fights weekly event, prompt # 956
Read @ AO3
Sandor Clegane is a hunter, a monster and ghost hunter to be exact. That is not the problem. The problem is, that for the past few months, he has been in a relationship with one Sansa Stark. Again, the relationship itself is not the problem, the problem is, that he has yet to admit to Sansa that he is, in fact, a monster hunter.
He’s never been shy about his profession, he has not hidden it from his friends nor his very few girlfriends (not that those lasted long anyway) in the past. But fuck if Sansa isn’t different, she’s soft and kind and sweet; she’s the living embodiment of what he images a high born lady of bygone ages would have been. And Sansa is one that spooks easily enough. At twenty five, she still isn’t one for supernatural movies and still covers her face and clings to his arm during jump scares (there’s a memorable occasion in which she nearly jump into his arms), and that… well, might be problematic for their relationship.
But he knows that he can’t avoid the conversation much longer, since his work is mostly by night, having the cover of working as a private investigator works quite well, it also has the advantage of being partially true. He does investigate some supernatural occurrences, he just happens to also kill said supernatural occurrences.
Jaime Lannister – that smug buggering bastard – has joked that his life is a constant Halloween month. But for all he’s fought the comparison, Jaime’s not quite lying, nor so far from the mark.
So, he braces himself and prepares to do whatever it takes to keep Sansa from bolting out the door and leave his life. And fuck him, that’s a first too, he’s never been one for relationships; at least not ones that actually last and where the word ‘love’ has been uttered by both parties, he knows he’s imposing, tall and broad, his voice is rough and half his face is a nightmare of scars thanks to his brother and he’s usually scowling, which doesn’t help at all. It’s a wonder Sansa even gave him the time of the day.
He marches to the market with a purpose and buys the ingredients for a fancy dinner. Living on his own has given him a mastery over the culinary arts, to the point that Sansa actually leaves the cooking to him most of the time when she spends the night – and days – over.
Sansa arrives on time – Catelyn Stark be praised for instilling in Sansa punctuality, and he’s already downed several glasses of scotch to calm himself down. How come he can face fire demons, and the thought of Sansa dumping him leaves him fucking cold. If he were religious, he’d be praying right about now.
“Thank you for inviting me, Sandor.” Sansa says as he removes her coat, the Autumn chill has finally settled in King’s Landing. “I’m looking forward to see what you did.”
“Not a problem, Little bird.”
He ushers her to the table, the food’s in the oven to keep it hot and there’s a dessert on the fridge. But now his palms are sweaty. He can do this. Demons and ghost are more trouble than this. But supernatural things don’t have his heart the same way Sansa does.
They eat and chat quietly, Sansa praising his culinary skills as usual, and has a second helping. The wine he got was also on the expensive side, but fuck it, Sansa deserves the best. And he might as well sweeten the whole ordeal.
“How about you tell me what you wanted to?” Sansa asks. “I can see you’re nervous, but, my knight in shinny leather jacket, you don’t have to be. Barring you saying you cheated, we’ll be fine.”
One thing he’s discovered very quickly that she’s very perceptive and notices things other might miss, and she’s also great at quick thinking. Some other reasons he loves her. “Ah… well. It’s complicated.”
Sansa waits, when he’s unable to continue, her mood shifts and her eyes gain a glint of mischief. “You know,” she leans forward conspiratorially. “It’s spooky season.”
He blinks. “And?”
Sansa grins and winks at him, a poor imitation of her sister Arya, who has grown use to causing mischief and who Sansa is trying to copy right now. “Let’s summon something. It’s October, Halloween’s right around the corner, we should celebrate.” She gets serious. “And what better way to celebrate than to summon something?”
His first thought is ‘Fuck no’. For he, who has grown up with horror stories of summonings gone wrong, who has actually had to save people from summonings gone wrong, resists the urge to slam his forehead against the table. He can’t quite avoid the words that come out, sarcasm thick on his tongue, “Sure, like maybe a cab so you can go home.”
Sansa blinks. He immediately regrets his words, she was just teasing. Fuck him, he’s always an idiot when it comes to this woman. Bloody hell. “Ah. Joking, of course,” he tries to smooth things over as quickly as he can. “You know, that’s what I wanted to tell you.”
Sansa’s eyes narrow, and her shoulders tense, “About summoning something?”
“No, it’s just… well, ripping of a band aid, I’m a monster hunter.” There, he’s said it. No taking it back now. What’s done is done and can’t be undone. The words had been uttered.
Sansa relaxes, sighs and says, “I know Sandor.”
It’s his turn to blink. “I am friends with Brienne?” Sansa offers. “And she’s gone hunting with you, she told me, but I wanted to give you the chance to say it yourself.”
Fuck, he had forgotten Brienne. He’s an idiot. “Must you be so perfect,” he grumbles good naturally. Then he gets serious, “Are you okay with this, Little bird.”
Sansa’s smile is soft and her eyes are shinning, “Not perfect, but thank you. And am I okay that my boyfriend risks his life to save others? Not entirely, I am afraid that one day you won’t come back. But I love you, and I love the whole of you and that means making peace and accepting that you were born a hunter, so I respect that. I can even admire your dedication to your work.”
He breathes a sigh of relief, “Thank you.” Is all he manages. “I was afraid you’ll leave.”
Sansa’s smile grows and she reaches for his hand, he takes her and enjoys the softness of her skin. “I could never, the only way I’ll leave is if you break up with me, or die.”
He barks out a laugh, “Then you’re stuck with me.”
Sansa nods solemn, “There are worst fates to be had.” Then, her eyes glimmer once more and she eyes the fridge. “I’m told there’s dessert?”
And relief washes over him in waves, so he laughs, lets go of his hand and gets up to get the chocolate tart he’s made and that she loves so much. “Dessert for one Little bird, coming up.”
It’s fine. They’re fine.

This is a modern AU very loosely based on the crap-fest that was season 8 and (believe it or not) a scene from the Barbra Streisand classic The Way We Were. It WILL not, however, end stupidly or painfully. No falling castles or signing up for a lifetime of celibacy or having babies and not staying together because...why? Why couldn’t Katie and Hubbell work it out? Sorry, that film was made 3 years before I was born and I'm still not over it.
Anyhoo, here's a bit from the middle. It's nearly finished. ~Lil~
-o-o-o-
"I didn’t know what else to do, you see. Didn’t know who else to call.” He breathes deeply, slowly.
Not long now, she promises herself. She will get him through this one night then block his number. Forever.
“When… your heart’s breaking, you…” He pauses, swallows, then says, “You need your best friend.”
Maybe she’ll kick him first.
“And you’re…”
Don’t you fucking dare!
“You’re my best friend, Brienne.” His eyes find hers then. Sad. Desolate. She almost misses the icy despondence of their last encounter. He shrugs.
Through gritted teeth, she says, “You’re not mine.”
He laughs at that. “Who is, then?” Sitting up, he rubs the back of his greasy head. “Sansa? Pod?” A perfect eyebrow arches and she can almost guess what he’s about to… “Have you seen Tormund since I left you?”
He’s baiting her and she knows it but she doesn’t fucking care. “Yes, Jaime. You left three days ago to run back to your sister’s side and I instantly jumped into bed with another man. Doesn’t that sound just like me?”
Anger flashes in his eyes for a millisecond before he looks away. “Sorry,” he mumbles.
Twenty-seven minutes. “You’re not forgiven.” She stands. “I’m leaving in three minutes. I promised to help and I did. It’s more than you deserve.”
Pulling up a contact on her mobile, she types:
Leaving soon.
“Who are you texting?”
“The Prince of None of Your Fucking Business,” she spits back just as she receives a reply.
I’ll be there in twenty. Can’t you wait?
Her answer is quick and to the point:
Can’t you go fuck yourself?
“You never used to curse,” Jaime says casually. “I like to think that’s my influence. I relieved you of some of your uptight tendencies, didn’t I?”
“You relieved me of my hymen, too…” One minute. “You can add that to your CV, if you like.”
I understand ur angry Brienne but please give me a few more mins. It’s important,
Tyrion’s message reads. She huffs, shaking her head as she watches the time on her mobile closely.
Jaime laughs. “You’re funnier now. But I liked you dour, too.”

Fic: Favors the Brave (1/1) [Jaime x Brienne, Tyrion]
Posting so that I don’t chicken out of cleaning it up and posting to AO3 later
“WHAT DID YOU DO???”
Tyrion lifted his head muzzily from his desk to see Fury incarnate hovering over him.
Like every true sinner, a part of Tyrion had known that there would be a day of reckoning. What was a thrill without the threat of danger?
Though he had rather imagined his headsman resembling his father, not this...gargoyle having a bad hair day? Tyrion squinted with heroic effort but the haze of a proper hangover won.
"TYRION, WAKE UP, DAMN IT!"
Hmm, the sound of the Fury seemed familiar. Was it an ex? Gods, he hoped he wasn't so cliche. That would be humiliating. Wasn't his type more backstabber than frontstabber?
Who else, who else? He had always thought there was something off about Varys…
No, wait it was Brienne Tarth.
Tyrion patted her muscled arm in relief. Brienne was mighty but merciful. She would rescue him from the consequences of his ale-soaked misdeeds.
Whatever they may be.
Tyrion found he couldn't remember much at the moment. Only the most unshakeable pieces of identity remained: his name, the view straight up Father's flared nostrils when Tyrion delivered a perfect bon mot, and every curve of the '77 Playwench centerfold.
"WHAT DID YOU DO, TYRION?"
The question sank in that time. Sank in like an arrow right into his aching head. Words. He must find words to fend off Brienne's vicious volley.
Words, his old friends. He had dedicated his life to sowing adjectives, japes and invectives across the land. Rude of them not to bear fruit in his time of need.
Finally, a lone weed wound its way to the surface.
"Offended the gods," he croaked.
There. Those were words that resembled a sentence. Take that, foul Fury! Of course, his tongue was so dry it may have sounded more like "often the goths." In vino, visigoths, Tyrion chuckled to himself.
"There’s no time for this! What did you say to that woman??”
Brienne was implacable. It had been amusing when Jaime was the one to tease her into anger. Like watching a gladiator poke at a saintly lion. To think, his brother *liked* her this way.  Jaime was a braver idiot than Tyrion had given him credit for.
"Woman?"
"The one time I need you to talk!" Brienne groaned in despair.  She might have clutched her tragic hair. Tyrion was too busy trying not to puke to be sure. Brienne regrouped and fetched him a glass of water. Bliss.
"Tyrion, focus. Last night. You went inside that tent and when you came out you said that you 'fixed it.' What did you fix? What did you do to Jaime???"
"Jaime? Tent?"
"That stupid red tent at the carnival you MADE me go to last night! THINK, TYRION!!!"
How had he never noticed that her voice was more forceful than a battering ram? Merciful Mother.
"Not so loud, woman, please."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Does your head hurt? BECAUSE I WILL TAKE IT OFF YOUR NECK IF YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT YOU DID!"
Shock that she was capable of sarcasm jolted his brain into gear. A very rusty third gear.
“Brienne, if you are going to be dramatic, then I will have to be sensible and no one wants that.”
Brienne hauled him forward by his shirt with such force that Tyrion felt his wing tipped shoes take flight. Their disparate sizes meant her hand nearly spread collar to cock. Fear shook him sober.
"Yes, ok. I am trying to remember. I swear it." Tyrion scrambled for purchase and details that would jog his memory. "We went to a carnival? Why in the world would you and I go to a carnival?"
"You were moping! You said we had to go where we belong!" Brienne's fist clenched. Unfortunately, so did his windpipe.
Less unfortunately, gurgling her name fueled enough guilt to loosen her grip.
Tyrion had never been so glad to have his feet on the ground. Rolling his shoulders in relief, he felt his freshly oxygenated mind rev with curiosity. He *did* like a puzzle.
A carnival. That might explain the calliope music merrying around his head.
"Walk me through last night, Brienne. From the beginning. If I have the big picture, maybe I can remember the details."
She took a deep breath. Brienne slipped into the cadence of an officer delivering a shift report, something she and Jaime had surely done hundreds of times when they served together in Essos. Calm was Brienne’s specialty. Jaime often called her a robot, with mirth in his eyes. Outside of her hearing, Jaime had told him that her stoicism was the only reason he still had two fingers on his right hand. Tyrion didn’t have words for the look in Jaime’s eyes, then.
"You and I left work at the same time. Jaime was picking you up because you were sad after… Chai?"
"Shae." Tyrion's throat was dry again.
"After she dumped you. Jaime insisted that I come have a drink with you. We went to a bar you hated."
Tyrion rubbed his head. "Were there...there were hubcaps on the wall. And they dyed the ale green."
"Yes! You told Jaime it was like playing a symphony with a kazoo.” Brienne smiled fondly. “He laughed so hard he…"
Tyrion took a swig of water as his interrogator trailed off. She had a bad habit of sharing details that made her affections too apparent. It was hard to watch.
"We had an appetizer but then Jaime got a call." She blinked too quickly as she stumbled on. Another tell.
"From Cersei. She called and he came running." An all too familiar pit formed in Tyrion’s stomach.
Sympathy briefly returned to Brienne’s face. "You were upset. You ordered shots and...people were looking. Then you dragged me to the carnival. Mostly I tried to keep you from falling on your face as you told me that Jaime would always choose Cersei.”
Truth was bitter. Tyrion had run out of wine to sweeten his tongue.
“He will, you know,” he snapped. “I’ve watched him do it a dozen times. You dragged him out of the pits of hell in Essos and not even you can save him from her. She ruined him the day she met him. She’s the main attraction and we’re the sideshow!”
Brienne flinched. Her left hand smoothed the skin of her right thumb in an absent gesture of anxiety. Tyrion cleared his throat in apology.
“He feels responsible for her somehow,” he said gently. “She trusted him when he needed someone to need him. We were never good enough for our father but he was exactly what Cersei wanted. Because he did everything she wanted. Terrible deeds did not feel terrible if he did them for her. Then he saw what she was but he couldn’t take back what he had done. Jaime thinks he doesn’t deserve...anything better.”
Seeing his sorrow reflected on her face was unbearable. Deflection, then.
“And how else did I charm you last night, my lady?”
“You cursed fate for making you beautiful but unloved. Then you literally flung yourself onto several women and screamed ‘once more unto the breach!’"
"Ah, yes. Well, I suppose I do get a bit theatrical when I’m drunk."
Brienne glared at him. "You disappeared when I was helping one of your poor victims up. I found you an hour later coming out of that red tent with the burning heart. "
A burning heart. Tyrion’s pulse quickened. “Jaime. I wanted to help Jaime.”
I tell desires, not fortunes. An impossible memory. A woman’s eyes flashing red. Smoke stinging his eyes. A voice from the embers....We all must choose.
“Please, Tyrion. You said you ‘fixed it.’ I thought you were just drunk but then this morning…”
Tyrion clutched Brienne for balance. He spoke without hearing the words. “I wished for Jaime to have a second chance.”
A clang from the outer office jarred him from his stupor. He toppled over as Brienne rushed to the blinds. The slats crumpled like paper in her hand as she peered through the window of his office door.
“He’s here.” She looked scared. Tyrion had never seen Brienne look scared before.
His assistant’s voice drifted in. “M-m-m-Mr. Lannister?”
The door opened. It was reckoning day, after all.
From the floor, Tyrion saw the face of the man he had looked up to his whole life. A face that he hadn’t seen in over 20 years.
Blond hair untouched by grey. Trouble-free eyes. 10 fingers.
Jaime was 16 again and his heart burned bright gold.
