“Hajime, are you bored?”
The raven haired man peers up from his phone, instantly locking the device and pocketing it when he sees the concern etched across your face.
Shaking his head, Iwaizumi gives you a gentle smile. It only takes him a few steps to reach you. “No, just checking my emails.”
Unconvinced, you rest a palm on his chest. It wasn’t like you had forced the man to come out with you. Ever the attentive boyfriend, Iwaizumi had made it his mission to spend some time with you after a hectic few weeks of work - even if that meant spending the day following you into countless stores.
“Are you sure? I know this isn’t really your thing.” you mumble, gesturing lamely at the store.
“Baby, no.” he plants a soft kiss on your temple. “I love spending time with you. Even if it means becoming your personal bag holder.” Iwaizumi lifts an arm, biceps curling underneath his t shirt as he lifts a plethora of shopping bags with ease, 90% of the contents belonging to you.
He watches the way your eyes draw towards his muscle and with the tiniest lift of his lips, he whispers. “I’m starting to think you only bring me along so you can have me carry your bags and ogle me.”
Rolling your eyes, you lightly slap his chest. “You’re the one who always insists on coming with me and carrying all my bags.”
Iwaizumi raises an eyebrow as if to ask are you sure?
Scoffing, you offer no solid denial, only a light push that does nothing to move the brute standing before you. Iwaizumi smiles down at you, endeared by the attempt.
“Seriously though, Hajime, I can go around by myself. Why don’t you go home and rest?”
Now he’s confused. It’s the second time you’ve tried to send him home and he’s racking his brain to see if he may have upset you somehow but he keeps coming up blank. Finally giving up, he decides to ask you.
“Why?” he squints his eyes playfully, “You got another man around to carry your stuff for you?” When you don’t respond to his joke, the raven furrows his brows. Calloused palms come to rest on your cheek. “I’m fine, love.”
And sure he looked fine, Iwaizumi was as tough as nails. But not even he could handle the crazy hours he had been working the last couple of weeks and you could tell he was close to running on fumes.
“Ha ha, very funny.” taking a hold of his wrist, you peer up at the man. “Let’s just go home. I think i’ve bought enough-“
“No.” He’s curt and the unexpected sharpness in his tone cuts you a lot deeper than he would have ever intended. You blink at his words, guilt, concern and a flash of hurt painting across your features. Sighing, Iwaizumi rests his forehead on your shoulder, groaning in what you guess is regret.
Your first instinct is to comfort him, so you do. Weaving your fingers through his dark tresses, you let him soak in your warmth.
“I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t mean to snap at you.”
“I know, Haji.”
With a final sigh, he slumps back a step. “Shit, maybe I do need to get my ass home.” he chuckles half heartedly.
Humming, you take a step forward to reach him, mischief brimming in your tone. “Well if you’d just listened to me the first time I wouldn’t be here trying to calm down Mr Grumpy Pants himself.”
“Watch it.” he snipes, no real bite behind his words.
And in all your childish glory, you stick your tongue out at him.
Iwaizumi looks wholly amused. When was the last time someone stuck their tongue out at him? Then, he remembers who his best friend is and any trace of amusement is gone. “That Oikawa is a shitty influence on you.” he grumbles.
“Come on, let’s go.” you giggle, reaching for his free hand to lead him towards the exit.
“Hey,” he calls, softly tugging at your hands to halt your steps, “I love you.”
Despite the gruff texture of his voice, you would never tire of how softly those words would fall from his lips.
“I love you too.” lifting your entwined fingers up, you seal your words with a quick kiss to the back of his hand. “Now, can we finally go home?”
Iwaizumi smiles, fond. “Let's go home.”

summary: after you end up going to karasuno after a messy breakup, you're left by yourself for your first day. much to your luck, you meet a ginger sunshine boy who makes it less scary.

You were Aoba Johsai bound.
That’s what your best friend and boyfriend– Well, ex boyfriend always said. The moment they were in high school you went to all of their games and were constantly around. Most of the team viewed you as an honorary manager, and you all thought you’d be an actual manager as soon as you got into high school.
And you thought wrong. After your breakup, you figured a change of pace would be good. As much as you loved everyone from Seijoh, it would be weird to be a manager for the team your ex is the captain of.
So, you settled on somewhere else in the Miyagi Prefecture. Karasuno high, home of the crows. Or.. The Flightless Crows from what you heard.
You figured trying for a managing position of the team would be good since you’d still get to watch and be a part of the sport you loved. You wouldn’t consider yourself a volleyball player, but considering your life long best friend was, you had grown a love for the sport.
Plus, it helped that the players were always super hot.
You had realized over the course of middle school that you had a weakness. A weakness for cute boys. And there were a. Lot. Of. Cute. Boys.
You found that the word “Simp” was probably the best term one could use for you, which is exactly what led up to you getting with your ex.
You were walking around at the end of a pretty good first day. You needed to find the gym to ask about being a manager. Before you could do that though…
You felt someone run straight into your back, knocking you onto the ground. “Ouch!” You whined, turning over and looking at your scraped knees. “Watch where you’re runni–” Your breath caught in your throat when you looked up, seeing a ginger boy.
He couldn’t have been much taller than you, and he had these big brown eyes..
He was adorable.
“I’m so sorry!!” The cute stranger quickly stuck his hand out.
“It– it’s fine.” You couldn’t help but go red, taking his hand and getting up.
“I was just trying to find the gym, and–”
“You’re looking for the gym too?” You tilted your head.
“Huh? Oh, yeah!! I’m trying out for the volleyball team.”
You looked him over. Yeah. There was no way he was taller than you. How was he gonna play volleyball? Weren’t those guys usually tall? Oh well, you’ve heard of the Tiny Giant. You grinned.
“Really? Me too!! Well, I guess I’m not trying out to be on the team, but I wanna be manager!!”
“Really?!” The boy gasped. “That’s so awesome!! We could be working together!!”
You bounced right off his energy, smiling brightly. “Right?! That’s so cool– We should walk together.”
“Heck yeah!” You both smiled. Your first friend at Karasuno! At least you could tell Iwaizumi you met someone and he wouldn’t be so worried about you. He didn’t say he was worried, but you knew him well enough to read him like a book.
The both of you went along while you pulled out your phone.
You let out a small sigh as you shoved your phone in your bag. You lied. You were mostly over it, but just the mention of Oikawa stung. It was a bitter reminder of what could’ve been, and what wasn’t.
You shook those thoughts aside. You couldn’t focus on Oikawa, not when you just made a new friend and when you were about to start managing a whole new team.
You and your new friend walked side by side for a bit before you looked at him. “So, why Karasuno?”
He looked at you before grinning. “This is where the Tiny Giant went!!”
“You look up to him?”
“He’s like, my idol!”
“That’s really cool!!”
“What about you?”
“Huh?”
“Like– Why Karasuno?” He tilted his head.
“Oh! Well, uhm, I was going to go to Aoba Johsai, I was actually accepted but my um…” You rubbed the back of your neck. “My ex goes there.. And is on the volleyball team.”
“Aahh..” He hissed. “Rough. Well, hey! Karasuno is totally awesome, and we get to hangout, so, win-win!” He smiled.
He was such a little ball of sunshine. You grinned. “True!”
The both of you walked before arriving in front of the gym. The boy– Wait. You didn’t know his name. Before you could turn and ask him, he opened the door and his face immediately dropped. “..No way.”
You tilted your head before looking over. You spotted a taller boy with black hair and dark blue eyes. You squinted before the realization dawned on you. “Kageyama?”
He looked at the boy next to you first, then you. “Oh. You’re Oikawa’s girlfriend.”
“Ex! Ex girlfriend, but yes.” You huffed, putting your hands on your hips.
“I met you last year.” Kageyama turned his attention to the boy next to you, and the two of them began talking about something you tuned out of. You looked at Kageyama, kind of puzzled. You were sure he would go to Aoba Johsai. Why was he at Karasuno? He was the “King of the Court.”
Before you knew it, there were three new voices behind you and you squeaked a little, jumping.
There was a guy with a buzz cut, a guy with grey hair, and a guy with black hair. They were all tall and hoootttt.
You felt your face heat up as you stepped to the side and they started to talk to Kageyama. The small ginger started to walk around them, seemingly observing them before standing next to you again. “Hey so–” They didn’t hear him, in fact it seemed like they barely noticed him.
“I–” He started before huffing. “HEY!!”
Suddenly, all three boys’ eyes were on him, then you.
The boy with black hair looked at his keyboard. “Says here that the other person trying out.. Is Shoyo Hinata. I’m guessing that’s you?” Hinata. His name was Hinata.
“You were the short jumpy one!!” The boy with the buzz cut exclaimed.
Hinata’s eyes lit up when he realized that they knew who he was. “Oh!! Yeah!!”
“You were crazy, man. Too bad you haven’t had a growth spurt though.” The boy with the buzzcut walked over, comparing his height to Hinata’s.
The boy with the grey hair looked at you with a smile. “And you?”
You looked over, heat creeping up your neck. “Oh! Ah– I’m Y/N L/N. I was actually wanting to ask about being a manager?”
“Guh!” The boy with the buzz cut squawked. “We have a manager, and she’s–”
The boy with the black hair hit him on the shoulder. “What Tanaka means is while we do have a manager, a second one wouldn’t do any harm.”
You grinned. “Awesome!!” This was going great. You made a friend, and successfully joined Karasuno’s volleyball team as a manager. What could go wrong?
..
Oh a lot went wrong. You barely know how it happened, but all of a sudden Hinata and Kageyama were having a one on one match, and the ball had managed to hit the vice principal in the head. It also hit his toupe right off… And onto the boy whose name you learned was Daichi.
You stood with the other two first years when Daichi walked back in. “You’re lucky, he doesn’t even want us to apologize. But he did swear us to secrecy.”
You blinked at him before looking around at the other four boys. You let out a nervous giggle to yourself. This would be interesting.

in which dating hajime is full of love.
warnings: none, just sweet little fluff ; author is a little unrealistic about bf!haji but it's for a good cause.
he’s always been an attentive lover, but he hasn’t been the best at words. he’s never nonverbal, but he does struggle to come to your level of talkative sometimes. when he gets off work, he’s so tired (of athletes and scolding them) that he can barely muster words aside from “mhm” and “oh yeah?”. even if you’re being intimate after a long day apart, haji can have moments where he’s just not verbally equiped. it was something he hated about himself, but you found it cute. you liked to think of it as his ‘himbo hours’, and he kinda loves the term. he’d never admit to sometimes engaging himbo hours on purpose because he knows how endearing you find his short quips to be after a long day. he also lives for your sweet little “oh, you’re just head empty aren’t ya baby?” as you finish your spiel about your day.
haji has always been stronger and bigger than you, more looming no matter what he does. he towers over you in all he does, big frame taking up a little too much of your personal space. despite his big size, you always manage to corner him in the bed, forcing him to the edge as you take up all the space. haji gets used to this, unable to sleep without the soft pressure of your arm or leg splayed across his chest or abdomen. he also loving clutches whatever limb you sling on him, humming softly as he drifts to sleep.
haji demands the two of you share a spotify account. you think he’s being frugal, but really he just likes to know what you’re listening to throughout the work day. every morning around 9 or so, you kick him off of his training playlist, and he grins as he looks down to see what you’re listening to. he also enjoys having a record of what you play the most, and he even more so enjoys your shared “Spotify Wrapped” at the end of the year. every year he saves a screen cap of your top five, and he compares them from year to year.
haji loves date night. date night is like his met gala, and he loves to wow you with new places, looks, and surprises. haji takes pride in his venue selection and outing itinerary. he usually likes to set out an outfit for you the morning of, promising to meet you at the venue because he finds it more exciting to do this grand reveal; it reminds him of your wedding day. you find your husband charming no matter the attire, but he’s always sure to surprise you even more than before. haji also likes this tradition when you can manage to record a ‘Vogue Beauty Secrets’ style video for him to enjoy later.
speaking of those Vogue Beauty Secrets videos, haji loves to watch them with you as you do your skincare routine. he initially griped about how lame celebrities all look the same or use the same shit, but the more you watched the harder it was for him to ignore. it was really just background noise for you, but haji became invested. he started encouraging you to record them for him whenever he was away traveling for work, and he even began filming some for you to enjoy. he pretends to be upset with you when you leak one to the team and their fans.

CAN I TELL YOU I THINK ABOUT THIS ENDLESSLY AND I NEED YOUR THOUGHTS TOO (btw happy belated valentines, i saw you did a valentines COLLAB, i've been meaning to binge!!!!!!!!!)
i think hajime has always been soft for the idea of love. yes, he's stoic and independent and likes to present himself as such an immovable strength that the premise of him and roses kind of seems paradoxical--but to me its so fitting.
maybe other guys tend to feel constricted by the concept of valentines day, where they're stuck to the old ball and chain and pressured to perform for a capitalistic holiday; but not iwaizumi. if you're in a relationship, he's going to the nines--doing the rose petals, writing the sweet but short message in the card, making the dinner reservations, and sharing a steamy and soapy bath with you are all ways that he participates because hajime likes you. these are all ways that he shows that he cares for you because sometimes he can't find the words to show that, so doing things is easier. (and yeah, this is a very man thing to be emotionally inept that the only applicable love language is by action, but sorry! that's hajime!).
and more importantly, when you like it? he's a beaming fool. he's picking the petals and spreading them around your room with the confidence of a king, because he knows you'll enjoy it. pulling the msby card so that he can get the super exclusive balcony seating and the booked out new restaurant downtown? he's smug as hell. running the bath and throwing that bubble shit in it, making the bathroom smell like lavender and mint? bitch is patting himself on the back saying "who's the man? i'm the MAN."
because showing that he loves you is natural to him, it's the absolute designation of strength. he's a secure dude, and he's secure in his relationship, and he won't ever be the one to write waxing poetry about his feelings for you, but he gets an innate pleasure out of treating you. because he loves you, and he knows you'll love these tiny things. so yeah, he kinda loves valentines. cause he gets to love you even more than he already does. and it's not like its because he knows any better or wants to prove that he's a better man than anyone else. like i genuinely don't even think he realizes he does valentines day better than any other boyfriend, he just does it because he wants to treat you and that the whole point of valentines dayl

Kisses with Oikawa are passionate. Oikawa's hands pull your hips to his own as he kisses you with the passion and love of a man who hasn't seen the love of his life in years, even if you had only been away from him for minutes. A hand cups your cheek and another on your hips as he kisses you and mutters sweet compliments to your lips. His passion is unbridled.
Hajime Iwaizumi:
Kisses with Iwaizumi are gentle. He cant help but worry that he could hurt you every time he goes to press his lips to you in any way. Hes been told he was scary: so when hes alone with you he cant help but feel the fear of you being scared of him scratch at his throat. He presses gentle kisses to your lips and knuckles, despite how aggressive and tense he may seem. He wants you to feel safe and loved in his arms.
Issei Matsukawa:
Kisses with Matsukawa are sweet. Hes so easygoing with you that whenever you two share a kiss it's a sweet reminder of your feelings for eachother. Not to mention he loves it when one or both of you wears some form of sweet lip balm. Shinji Watari:
Kisses with Shinji are sudden. He doesn't run on a set schedule and enjoys a fun surprise, so he finds the time to surprise you with kisses too. He never goes for the lips on any of the surprise kisses, but instead for your cheeks, knuckles and neck instead. He loves giving a supportive kiss on the cheek as a gentle reminder hes there when you seem to be having a bad day and too far into your head to notice him. You always jolt a little and laugh, and that's enough for him.
Yutaro Kindaichi:
Kisses with Kindaichi are respectful. He never kisses you anywhere but your cheeks without you telling him he can or initiating it yourself. Hes never had a real relationship and hes scared to make you uncomfortable or drive you away. He does do a lot of eskimo kisses or nuzzling his head into your neck while you cuddle together on the couch at his place.
Akira Kunimi:
Kisses with Kunimi are effective. When you both share a kiss, its enough to convey whatever messages he wants to give you and bring you to a blushing mess. He really prefers eskimo kisses and little pokes on the cheeks with his fingertips as his forms of showing you affection, but when he knows you both need it his kisses are enough to bring you to your knees.
Kentaro Kyotani:
Kisses with Kyotani are firm. Kyotani isnt good with words, so he uses a firm kiss to show you he loves you when he doesn't understand what all to say. His lips linger on yours for a moment, or his face presses a little into your neck as he plants firm little kisses on you to show you he cares when he notices you having a bad day. His love language is physical touch, so he wants to make sure you can feel his touch and his affection every time.
Kaneo Yuda:
Kisses with Yuda are loving. Hes an emotional person, and loves to let you know you're loved. He doesn't care what he has to do, he finds the time to give you at least one loving kiss every single day and he has no regrets. He was moved to a flustered emotional state when you kissed him first, and now he makes sure you're that level of flustered by the end of every kiss he gives you.
Heisuke Shido:
Kisses with Shido are special. He doesn't kiss you a lot, instead choosing to show his affection with hugs and cuddles- but when he does give you kisses it makes them all the more special and memorable. The most emotional days of him being on the team, and after anything that was major for you or him: that's when kisses are shared and it makes it so, so special.
Motomu Sawauchi:
Kisses with Sawauchi are soft. He takes good care to make sure hes gentle and loving with you. You honestly have to start the first few kisses because hes nervous at first. He isnt overly emotional, but he never wants to hurt you. You're his amazing, gorgeous partner and he never wants to make you feel unsafe. got too excited thinking about a bokuakakuroken hockey au where Kuroo and Bokuto are a D-man pair, Kenma and Akaashi are left and right wingers to some unspecified third character's center forward, all of them on the first line. I'd make the third character Hinata but I think Hinata and Kags need to be the craziest d-pair ever they need to have the most intricate scary ass bait-and-switch bullshit where they trick other guys into thinking they have the puck and then they smash the fuck out of them.
Anyway Kuroo and Bokuto are SO good at helping the wingers set up plays and Kenma is uncanny at reading where opposing players will go next while Akaashi has stick handling skills for DAYS and knows exactly how to keep up team morale in a quieter way than Bokuto, who crows on and on about how awesome they all are CONSTANTLY. Kuroo is captain and gives dorky ass speeches in the locker room that the other guys always snicker at him for (first guy to laugh has to pay a fine, usually it's Bokuto who is always more than happy to support the team LMAO)
I feel like Tsukki would be a good candidate for goaltender, y'know, blocking and all that. Yamaguchi would be a part of the power kill line, and he usually only goes out when it's a PK, which is unusual, but it makes sense because he's always somehow better when there's fewer guys on his side. Maybe because it makes him fight harder to keep shit away from Tsukki - has more of the burden on his shoulders, less guys to trip over.
Suga is a trainer, the trainer who seems the friendliest but is the scariest to get stuck with when you've got a major injury because he WILL fix you and it WILL hurt. He'll tell you to suck it up and give you a pack of skittles and tell you to get your ass into the ice bath now.
(He is dating Daichi, another center forward on the team, likely on the same line as Asahi and Tanaka's D-pair, Noya's right wing and Ennoshita's left. Asahi is a D-man for humor purposes only. He's like an elephant, huge but skittish.)
Kenma is an easy target on the ice (small, slight, etc.) but people learn DAMN fast not to go after him because Kuroo and Bokuto have a combined record of breaking like, seventeen guy's noses during games. At first they could get away with the high sticking, but it got a bit obvious. I think Bokuto has received an actual fine while Kuroo snickers and is more sly with it.
Akaashi is also not fond of people going after Kenma and he will target guys in a way that humiliates them - goes out of his way to break ankles and dangle shots and pulls out his best moves just to keep those assholes from getting to touch the puck at all, until their coaches pull them off the ice any time he's on it. He finds it far more satisfying, though watching Bokuto full-body slam some douche into the wall is also a nice feeling.
I also feel like Bokuto would make a GREAT goalie, though. HRNGH. There are so many positions I want to put them into, rotate them through the roster etc.e tc. Kenma as a goaltender????? i take the most autistic person and i stick them in the net.
Akaashi would not be a good goaltender, there isn't enough action. I do think he would be a really good center, though - maybe he'd be the center with Kenma as a left wing and someone else as a right.
Tsukki wants to be a d-man but he didn't ever care enough to put actual force into his hits so he slowly got stuck more and more into the goal until he begrudgingly decided it was cool.

iwaizumi and oikawa go to some fair or carnival or whatever and oikawa is like “haha win me a plushie, iwa!” and iwaizumi is like “ok” and then proceeds to win every single goddamn game they play. oikawa ends up with like six new stuffed animals, four of which are as big as he is. he’s carrying around literal armfuls of plushies by the time they leave and he’s blushing and very happy but also “what…. am i supposed to do with so many of these.” and iwaizumi is all confused just like “but you asked for a prize toy!” “well i didn’t think you win ALL OF THEM” and yeah okay iwaizumi can’t really argue with that. he offers to take some off of oikawa’s hands and it’s an immediate no back off i’m gonna treasure my six new sons forever. and he DOES.

It’s actually really funny to think about how in IwaOiSuga Suga is probably BY FAR the least possessive. Is this due to his issues with undervaluing himself and trying to people please? Mayhaps. Is it because Iwa and Oikawa are childhood friends and Suga knows that things are a little different between them and accepting this makes him less jealous and more easy going? Possibly. Is it also because Oikawa is one of the most jealous men on earth and Iwaizumi has become insanely overprotective over the people he loves after witnessing Oikawa's self destructive tendencies? Absolutely.

i am once again thinking about iwaizumi hajime (27) athletic trainer falling for you and for whatever reason you want to start working out a bit but you're so afraid of telling him because what if he... tries to control it or goes all in in the same way he does to professional athletes?
so you keep it a secret. you start small, a few sit-ups and pull-ups before bed - he catches you one night because he finished his shower earlier than expected and without a word bends down to hold your feet as you do the last sit-ups. he praises you like you just run a marathon in front of him and you confess to him about your small work-out routine. he gets stars in his eyes and immediately starts talking numbers but realizes quickly what he's doing and stops himself, embarassingly coughing into his arm, "i'd love to help you but i respect if i'd be... too much. just know, however, that i'll be proud no matter what you do or don't do, because i love you exactly as you."
