booklr wrapped!
I found a ‘Bookstagram Wrapped’ template created by @_readbyrach on Instagram. I had a lot of fun making it and wanted to see everyone else’s bookish year so I thought I’d make it into a tag! Here’s mine 😊
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tag: @earnestlyeccentric @ninja-muse @redbookpanda @myso-calledlibrary @batsbooktalk @bookishfreedom @literateish @katarinareads @cutearose @plantpages @books-and-cookies @stefito0o @franticvampirereads @therefugeofbooks @megsandherbooks @nerdishfeels @bookcub and anyone who sees this and wants to give it a go! Tag me - I’d love to see what everyone’s been reading !!
note: sadly unlike spotify you have to fill in the information yourself haha, I used goodreads to help me figure out info like pages read & to remember which books I rated 5 stars 😊

Hi! So, after looking at Spotify Wrapped and getting the notification for my Goodreads' Year in Books, I decided to create some graphics looking back at my Year in Books. Here they are!
What do we think?
(Info: The only app I've used to create these graphics is Canva, with data taken from my Goodreads and Storygraph. This work is original.)

October Wrap Up--
Tumblr media
If you can believe it, this is just half of the things I read this month. Though, to be fair, most of my eBooks and eARCs were pretty short. I started the month with the pace of finishing one thing every other day and I kept it going throughout the entire month. Part of that was spurred on by the fact that I got approved for the new Truly Devious ARC and need to get through a few things first. But the months of November and December are hectic at my work so I’m going to enjoy my voracious reading this month with the knowledge that I won’t get nearly as much read for the rest of the year.
Comics/Graphic Novels-- 1. Cowboy Bebop: Supernova Swing by Dan Watters-- 2.5 stars.
Novellas/Short Stories-- 1. When Snowflakes Fall by Tara Wyatt-- 3.25 stars.
2. Like Fresh Fallen Snow by Tara Wyatt-- 4.25 stars.
3. Until the Sun Sets by Tara Wyatt-- 2 stars.
Novels-- 1. Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell-- 3 stars.
2. Pucked by Helena Hunting-- 3 stars.
3. The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher-- 4 stars.
4. Escaping Eleven by Jerri Chisholm-- 3.5 stars (original rating).
5. Cupid for Hire by Lila Monroe-- 2.5 stars.
6. None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marnie-- 3.5 stars.
7. Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher-- 4 stars.
8. Love Next Door by Helena Hunting-- 4 stars.
9. The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson-- 4 stars (original rating).
10. Order of the Phoenix-- 5 stars (original rating).
11. Missing Clarissa by Ripley Jones-- 3.25 stars.
12. The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson-- 4.5 stars.
The average star rating for the month of October was 3.52 stars. It hasn’t been the best reading month, but I got a lot of things I’ve been meaning to read off my Kindle so I’ll take the win.

Articles I read in May 2022
I normally don't do this, but since I have been working full time on my thesis, I read a lot of articles, so I thought I do a wrap up of those aswell. The theme of the articles is witch hunts and the historiography of witchcraft, as my thesis is on a witch trial. All the articles I found on jstor (and I will link the website), the majority are in English but I'll also include those written in Italian.
The Pursuit of Reality: Recent Research into the History of Witchcraft by Malcolm Gaskill
The Historiography of European Witchcraft: Progress and Prospects by E. William Monter
The European Witch Craze of the 14th to 17th Centuries: A Sociologist's Perspective by Nachman Ben-Yehuda
Who Were the Witches? The Social Roles of the Accused in the European Witch Trials by Richard A. Horsley
Witchcraft, Female Aggression, and Power in the Early Modern Community by Edward Bever
Witchcraft Prosecutions and the Decline of Magic by Edward Bever
The Invisible Men: The Historial and The Male Witch by Lara Apps and Andrew Gow (This is the first chapter of the book Male Witches In Early Modern Europe, I ended up reading the whole book, all the chapters are present on jstor, but I will link only this one. For those interested the book is composed by five chapters plus the introduction and conclusion)
La stregoneria. Confessioni e accuse, nell'analisi di storici e antropologi di Mary Douglas Reviewed by Michela Pereira
Ancora a Proposito di Streghe by Michaela Valente
The full list of books I read this month and their reviews is here

My 2022 list of bookish favourites. I’ve read a comparatively small amount this year, though a huge ratio of my reading in 2022 was queer lit, which brings me joy. I’ve starred all the Queer lit in this list. ⁣
I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year. Here’s hoping 2023 brings some more good lit and great experiences. ⁣

Best Reads of 2022! 📚
Hey guys! These are the best books I read this year. I have to say, having looked at my old posts, it was really nice to see that I read a lot more and met my reading goal of 20 books! A lot went on this year but I’m proud that I was still able to do what I love.
I read some wonderful books from new authors (like Olivia Atwater) as well as favourite authors such as Alix E. Harrow. I also read some lovely manga too and discovered Spy X Family (which is so wholesome and I need more!).
I’m glad that I read a lot of great Asian fiction too. I think it’s become a favourite genre of mine, reading different stories inspired by Asia history or fairytales.
I can’t wait to see what my reading looks like in 2023!

Another reading month that wasn’t my strongest ever, numbers-wise. My excuses this month?
Weather and latitude, since I get a good bit of my reading in while waiting for or travelling on public transit and it’s really difficult to do that when it’s dark, raining, or the bus is full of people because—did I mention the rain?
Me going “to heck with reading goals” mid-month and signing out 800 pages of history which I knew was going to take me weeks.
But eh, whatever. It’s been a very enjoyable reading month apart from that! I finally read my sixth/last Austen novel and I think it might be my favourite now? I absolutely see why booklr had a collected meltdown over the Netflix movie. No way could that set-up do the story justice. And I got my hands on A Restless Truth at last, and rediscovered my love of Alan Smale, and read my last of the Oseman novels also.
Watch for The Great Believers near the top of my December wrap-up, by the way. I’m nearly done and it’s good.
Persuasion - Jane Austen Anne Eliot dutifully turned down Frederick Wentworth but eight years later, he’s back in town—and courting a neighbour. - warning: misogynist society, agism, some fatphobia Hot Moon - Alan Smale Vivian Carter just wants her quiet Apollo mission. Unfortunately, the Soviets attack almost as soon as she hits orbit, and it goes downhill from there. - Chinese-American, Black, and Latino secondary characters - warning: blood, battle injuries Now You See Us - Balli Kaur Jaswal Three Filipina maids in Singapore find their daily injustices brought to the fore when a fourth maid is falsely accused of murder. Out in March. - Asian cast, 🏳️‍🌈 POV character, minor 🏳️‍🌈 character, Indo-Singaporean author  - warning: abuse, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia A Restless Truth - Freya Marske Maud has until her boat docks to catch a killer and retrieve an artifact, but she’ll need a team and a whole lot of creativity. - 🏳️‍🌈 protagonists, 🏳️‍🌈 secondary characters, Black secondary character, 🏳️‍🌈 author
Solitaire - Alice Oseman Tori’s life is boring and pointless and she doesn’t get why her friends care—or why everyone think Solitaire’s pranks are funny, not dangerous. - 🏳️‍🌈 secondary character, 🏳️‍🌈 author - warning: accurate depiction of depression; suicidal thoughts, homophobic characters
Be the Serpent - Seanan McGuire Toby’s happily married and due for a break. Unfortunately, an old friend might just be the worst enemy she’s ever faced. - 🏳️‍🌈 secondary characters, 🏳️‍🌈 author - warning: blood, violence, death of a child
The Collectors - Philip Pullman with Tom Duxbury (Illustrator) Two art collectors discuss some recent acquisitions with otherworldly provenance.
She-Hulk, Vol. 1 - Rainbow Rowell Jen Walters is rebuilding her life again when an old friend mysteriously returns—from the dead?
Currently reading:
Beneath Another Sky - Norman Davies A world tour of countries subsumed by the colonial West and the ways they’re rebuilding after. - warning: colonial mindsets
The Great Believers - Rebecca Makkai Yale is trying for a massive bequest to his gallery while navigating a relationship and watching his friends die of AIDS. Thirty years later, Fiona is searching for her daughter and reckoning with how Yale’s friend-group has affected her life. - largely 🏳️‍🌈 cast, Jewish protagonist, Jewish secondary character, Black secondary character - warning: deaths from AIDS, period-typical homophobia, including apathy and hate crimes
The Penguin Complete Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle Victorian detective stories - major disabled character
 - warning: colonialism, racism

November Wrap Up--
Tumblr media
I was surprised when I went to take this month’s wrap up photo and realized that most of the things I read were eBooks and eARCs. I was able to read a bit more than I thought I would this month which I know can’t last going forward. My favorite thing I read was probably Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson which I was so lucky to get in eARC form.
Comics/Graphic Novels-- 1. Skyward Vol. 1: My Low-G Life by Joe Henderson-- 3.5 stars.
Novellas/Short Stories-- 1. His Curvy Friend by Mary E. Thompson (Kindle)-- 1.5 stars.
2. Stupid Love by Tara Wyatt (Kindle)-- 2 stars.
Novels-- 1. An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard (Kindle)-- 3.5 stars.
2. The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson-- 4 stars (original rating).
3. Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson (NetGalley)-- 4.25 stars.
4. Half-Blood Prince-- 5 stars (original rating).
5. It takes Heart by Tif Marcello (Kindle)-- 2 stars.
6. The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson-- 2.5 stars.
7. Unraveling Eleven by Jerri Chisholm (Kindle)-- 3 stars (original rating).
8. Fling by Adriana Locke (Kindle)-- 2 stars.
9. Across the Universe by Beth Revis-- 2.5 stars.
Overall, my ratings for the month average out to 2.98 stars. Which is definitely the worst my average ratings have been for any given month. But I did clear out a lot of my eBooks/eARCs. So, at least there’s that?
