prompt #1: ash upon a throne

The place has been far too quiet for far too long. Only the clang of metal on metal, the burning stench of a roaring forge, and the slight static FRIDAY generates that he’s never been able to get rid of.

Outside, ULTRON remains still and silent save for the momentary clashes of battle, of yet another undead meeting the business end of his sword and turning Hollow.

Until, suddenly, ULTRON exists no more.

Tony pauses, muscles straining with the hammer in the air, his entire body seizing up from suddenly not doing what he’d been doing for ages. Looks up, eyebrows already rising in disbelief at the sudden silence, at the sudden absence of the corrupted guardian, at FRIDAY’s serene expression peering through the archway at him in return.

Huh. Who’d have thought. Someone actually beat ULTRON.

It’s still a bit of a trek from that clearing to the shrine, and there’s still an eternity of opportunities to meet one’s doom, so Tony’s not holding out for much, but still. Someone beat ULTRON. The guardian who’d been the shining beacon of all their hopes up until the corruption had set in, the guardian who Tony had slaved over, lovingly created with his own two hands, whispered his hopes and dreams into only to be met with Dark and Damnation.

The guardian who’d killed JARVIS, so long ago. Right in that very clearing.

His hands unstick, his body unlocks, and as FRIDAY turns away to tend to the dead bonfire, Tony returns to his work, banging the hammer down onto the sword, straightening it’s surface, perfecting it like all the sword’s before.

The Chosen Undead shall arrive when they are intended to arrive. Not a second sooner, not a second later.

And while ULTRON may have finally been defeated, Tony doubts the Chosen Undead will arrive any time soon.

And so he works instead.

There’s a commotion up ahead, past the long hallway that leads to the centre part of the shrine. He can’t see much but the silhouette of the bonfire itself, doesn’t really want to since he knows that centre part like the back of his hands, and returns to his smithing instead.

The forge is especially hot today for some reason, sweat beading across his skin and soaking into his waistband. He runs a sweaty forearm across an equally sweaty forehead, doing nothing to help the situation, and eyes the edge of the sword critically.

Not sharp enough, he decides, putting it back to the wheel.

The commotion up above dies down, a little, Lord Natasha’s dulcet tones echoing ever so faintly from her perch on her mismatched throne. He’d offered to pretty it up for her, once. To make it a seat worthy of her title, of her rank. But she’d turned him down gently, sadly, unable to look him in the eye.

He hasn’t offered again.

There’s the clang of metal feet up ahead - that crestfallen one, maybe? - more voices, words inaudible, before the feet make their way to him.

Tony takes his time holding the sword to the wheel, the echoing sparks dying before they reach him, his hands safely covered with thick leather gloves. Beneath the gloves, scars litter his hands, echoes from a time he’d gone without, from a time FRIDAY hadn’t sacrificed her existence to the duties of the shrine just to stay with him, just a little bit longer.

The footsteps stop in front of him.

A throat clears itself. High pitched. Female? The Chosen Undead throughout the ages has been anything and everything in between; Lord Natasha proved that with her existence. But-

Shuffling of metal-clad feet. Awkwardly.

Tony’s lips twitch, amused despite himself, as he glances at the feet - not bad armour, that; strong, dependable, but old - and looks up, only to stare right into the face of a helmeted child.

Tall, no doubt about it, skinny, because it’s a goddamn child, with a sword that looks five times too adult for the brat’s twig-like arms.

Seriously? This is who finally stumbles their way to Firelink Shrine? This kid is the one that might, just might, link the flames and allow humanity to survive just that bit longer?

Tony stares, flabbergasted, and blurts out, “Who the fuck are you?”

The kid struggles to heft their too long sword, finally sheathing it before presenting it to Tony like a lollipop. “I’m Peter!” A cherubic voice chirps (fucking chirps!), the helmet lolling too fiercely for the child to the point that he needs to hold it steady with another hand. “The Firekeeper said I could ask you to please help fix my sword?”

FRIDAY. FRIDAY.

Tony’s going to kill her.

But goddammit, this is his job, isn’t it? He’s Tony the Blacksmith, forever linked with Firelink Shrine just as the Firekeeper is, just as that damn bonfire echoes across time and space in a way that still drives him mad.

So he takes the sword, doesn’t roll his eyes at the way the armour clad child perks up and flails excitedly, and unsheathes it, eyeing the metalwork appraisingly before actually giving in and rolling his eyes.

Because by the Gods, the kid’s running around with a damn toothpick.

“Look,” he sighs, sheathing the sword again, looking the kid in his ridiculously old helmet, “You’re looking for the Lords of Cinder, right?”

The kid’s helmet almost falls off his head with the force of his nodding.

Tony doesn’t even hide rolling his eyes.

“I’m not gonna give you the whole ‘you’re not the first and probably not the last’ speech, especially if that piece of shit Hammer’s out there, but I will say this, so pay attention through that buckrucket you call a helmet.”

“Hey!” The pipsqueak squeaks. “This armour’s from my granddad, y’know!”

Odin have mercy, this was an Ashen One?

Tony snaps his fingers irritably, and the kid straightens up with a jolt. “If you’re actually thinking of doing this,” he grouses, waving an index finger around to indicate ‘this’, “Then even you gotta know you’ll need an actual weapon, kid.”

The boy has the gall to cross his arms. Odin’s beard, Tony can just hear Rhodey laughing himself sick from the afterlife.

“What’s wrong with my weapon?”

“What,” Tony snorts, “Did you get it from your grandma this time?”

The kid’s stony silence is answer enough.

Tony actually (just a little bit!) feels a bit bad about that. But still.

“Look,” he sighs again, waving away his own animosity and the kid’s bristling, “You’ll find a whole bunch of stuff out there, if you keep a good eye out. Bring me any that seem good along with some materials and I’ll do what I can. Same with armour. That fluted set’s not too bad; loyal, won’t flake out on you in the middle of a fight, but it’s old for a reason. If you fall on your face with that thing on you’ll cut half your head off cleaner than your toothpick ever could.”

The kid bristles, but then-

stops.

Straightens up, brightens, and says, “So you’ll smith me weapons? And armour?! Oh my god, seriously? Holy shit, the Firekeeper lady said you were rude on the outside but a softy on the inside and she was right, yes!” The kid pump’s both hands into the air, before leaning in far too close into Tony’s personal space. “Can you make my current sword better for now, at least? I don’t want to change it, at least not if I have to, and oh my armour too!”

What did the kid say his name is? Peter? (Who even gives out their actual name to a stranger? And Tony knows with a certainty he knows his trade that that’s the kid’s real name. Idiot.)

He pulls the sword just a little bit past it’s sheath, unearthing it’s silver gleam, radiating in the light of his forge. It’s a tiny weapon when compared to others, long but thin, just like the toothpick he’d thought it to be, but on second thought, that might be for the best.

The kid, Peter, is small. Small not in his stature (the kid’s pretty tall, actually, and no doubt still growing), but small in everything else. He’s a child. Young and hopeful and far too innocent to be burnt alive for a short eternity until he can burn no longer.

Tony doesn’t want the kid to be the fated Chosen Undead.

But Tony doesn’t get what he wants.

“No shit, kid,” he says instead, biting back the warning (plea) for the kid to go back, to go back to where he’d come from (impossible, as every Undead to roll through the Shrine always comes from the Graves). “That is my job, after all. Name’s Tony. Tony the blacksmith. Bring all your shit to me, and I’ll make it stronger. Won’t get a better blacksmith than me.”

And, later, after some time, as the kid straps on the upgraded sword to his waist, lighter and more manageable for his skinny little arms - as the kid tightens the straps of his better fitting armour, Tony says, “Better be careful out there, kid. I put effort into that shit. If you die and put my work to waste I’ll be pissed.”

“Better not die and leave my babies out there on the battlefield for any ol’ scrub to put their dirty hands on, honeybear!”

“Do us both a favour and shut the fuck up, Tones.”

“That’s Lord Tones to you!”

The fluted armour’s helmet has no flap to reveal the face, a flaw later rectified in later armours that took the norm. The dumb asymmetrical pauldrons took a nosedive into out of fashion too, though Tony can’t help but be charmed by how dumb it looks, even now, centuries later.

“I’ll be back, Mr. Tony!” The kid, Peter, chirps (chirps! has the kid no shame?). “I’ll bring the materials you mentioned so you can make my stuff even better, so wait for me! Bye Mr. Tony!” And flounces off.

MASTERLIST!!!!!!!

Hello everyone and welcome to my Masterlist! Below you will find a bunch of films and characters I am writing about. I know there are a lot but a lot of them I am planning but I haven't started writing, a few of them are already completed and the rest, I am currently working on. If I do not update very often, it is probably either because I have writers block (which is not very often), or I am very busy with school work. You will find that some stories I am currently updating often in my Quotev profile: FairyofHogwarts, but they do not appear here until I am done with the book, with a “part” or with a “season”. The reason I only post them here once they are done is because 99.9% of the comments I get on Quotev is “When will you update?” “UPDATE!” even when I updated literally just hours ago -_-. Not only that, it is a lot of hassle and copying and pasting to do from Quotev to here as well as to my Wattpad profile Jadecross4ever. In My Arms (ongoing)

Summary – What if Corinna never died on her journey to Jamestown to wed James Read the blacksmith? What if she survived and when James Read stood at the warf, awaiting the arrival of his soon to be bride, he met shy, past abused, but loving Corinna Grant. No one thought that someone could work their way into James’s hard as iron heart but Corinna was different and there may be hope for the stone faced blacksmith of Jamestown and the shy but caring little “maid to make wife”.

Warnings – Unsure as of yet but most definitely: fluff, angst, mentions of abuse, death, mentions of blood and injury, smut.

(Just a note, if ya’ll don't know anything about the tv show or James Read, definitely look into it! It is a fun, intriguing frontier, colonial story and it worked its way into my heart even though it was not as high on the rank like the Witcher, GOT or Mandalorian. Just a note to those who have seen it, I have nothing against Jocelyn and I respect that she and James have a relationship in the show but due to the fact that the show ended on a sort of cliffhanger, and the fact that Jocelyn is a spoiled little princess, I wanted to justify the story for my own sanity and give James the love that he deserves:))

Summary – Jack Frost is officially a guardian but there are things about the past that he does not know about yet. What he does not realize is that the Autumn Spirit may have enough warmth up her sleeve to melt his heart.

Unable to switch back, the two choose to make the best of their new situations until Isabella (now Tamala) discovers that she lives in the world of the Kissing Booth which apparently actually happened in this new universe. Will Isabella return to her Isabella body and life or will she find that there was a reason why she and Tamala were switched?

Elle is still afraid of Campbell and the Guard has too much power and ego while Lexie and Harry try to take control... but what no one knew was that Grizz and his expedition had located not only land and food but people... namely: three girls who had also been sent to a parallel universe of their home 20 miles from New Ham... and among the three is Jamie, Grizz’s cousin, Lucy a childhood friend of a surprising person and Morgan, tough and sarcastic whom Harry has had a crush on since kindergarten. Follow the Society and their new friends as they strive to survive in this strange and cruel world.

People have asked about masterlists before and I’m usually too lazy to make them but I decided I’d organize today so here goes! I’ve made the list according to the themes/ tropes of the fics I’ve written. Starker unless labeled otherwise. A lot of these are ABO and also something else but they’re labelled accordingly. Away With Me Chapter 4: The Village

Princess Y/N is dreading her looming arranged marriage to a wicked nobleman when she makes an unlikely friend in castle craftsman Peter Parker. Will they be able to become close despite their differences in status?

When the morning sun is finally too bright to ignore, you blink open your eyes, still tired.

You look up at the arched wooden ceiling, letting a slow smile cross your face. Here you are, lying calmly next to the boy your love. For the first time, you don’t have to worry about any marriage contract or palace decorum- you are finally free of all responsibilities except to live happily with Peter.

Speaking of Peter, the brown-haired boy is waking up, too. He presses a light kiss to your forehead and stands up, stretching. The two of you eat a quick breakfast before he heads out to the town center- he needs to check in on his job as village craftsman to make sure everything looks alright. You, on the other hand, have absolutely nothing planned. Well, what else can you do except go explore?

You pull on a faded green dress from the bag you brought with you, fixing your hair quickly before heading out the door. You bask for just a moment in the warm sun, then start on your journey.

You make sure to walk every inch of the village, not wanting to miss seeing a single street or cobbled square. Most houses have small flowering boxes or neatly trimmed gardens encircling them like a gate of greenery, and you make a note to yourself to look into making a garden of your own. Wouldn’t it be fun to have your own wandering lines of flowers and ferns in the back of your house? You stroll past bakeries and blacksmiths, milliners and marketplaces. At last, you are thrilled to discover a small bookshop, and eagerly slip inside.

The bookseller runs a quiet little shop, closed away from the hustle and bustle of an early morning. The cool air is scented slightly by the old books, and the rustle of fading pages is music to your ears. You feel like you could spend hours in that darkened store, but you tear yourself away after a while. You do allow yourself to buy one book though, a small book of fables that caught your eye with its intricate leather bindings and detailed illustrations.

As you stride out of the bookseller’s, blinking in the sudden sunlight, you catch sight of a young girl struggling to carry two buckets full of water. She barely looks older than five, and the buckets are so full that the water inside threatens to slosh over onto the street, ruining all of the girl’s hard work. Instantly, you run over, taking one of the buckets. The girl looks at you gratefully, and you follow her to a bakery, where she hands the buckets over to a thin-faced woman in a flour-covered apron.

The girl considers you for a moment, then sticks out her hand solemnly. “My name is Charlotte.” You take the girl’s hand with equal formality. “I am Y/N.” Charlotte peers at the book you’ve just purchased. “Thank you for helping me with the water. Is that a book from the bookseller’s down the road?” You nod, smiling. “I just bought it a few minutes ago. Have you read this one?” The girl shakes her head sadly. “I’m needed to help my mother with the bakery, so I don’t have time to go to school and learn to read. I’d like to though, a whole lot.” You smile at the girl, forming an idea. “What if I taught you how to read?” Charlotte’s face lights up. “Really? You mean it?” You nod, taking the book out from your bag and guiding the little girl over to a bench. “Absolutely. Let’s begin.”

Charlotte turns out to be a quick learner, and the two of you go through some letters before her mother calls her once more. Just before she goes, Charlotte begs you to come back the next day and teach her even more, and you readily agree. Smiling over the girl’s excitement, you wander your way back home.

Peter is waiting for you, and he kisses you in greeting once you open the front door. “How was your first day being a commoner like the rest of us?” You laugh, and swat him on the shoulder. “It was just wonderful.” And it was- the feeling of being free to do whatever you want instead of adhering to the guidelines of royalty is one of the best feelings in the world.

Most of your days pass like this- Peter heading off to work, you helping Charlotte learn to read or work on your (admittedly struggling) garden or finding some other way to help out around the village. You and Peter are easily welcomed into the village, and it brings you no small amount of joy that you can live with the boy you love and have such a wonderful time doing so.

Peter is glad that you fit in so well, too, and whenever he’s out in town he always does his best to come see you at least once during the day. One time, he came to visit during your daily lessons with Charlotte, and the beaming smile on his face when he saw the two of you bent over a book could have outshone even the sun.

Blessed hours turn into days, and glorious days turn into weeks. Before you know it, you have lived in the village for three months. To celebrate, you brought home a cookbook from the bookseller’s, and Peter comes home to find you studying a recipe for cherry pie with all the solemnity of one of the kingdom’s highest scholars.

“What’s all this about?” Peter walks up behind you, taking in all of the pots and pans you’ve used as well as the cookbook. You turn to him, grinning. “I am celebrating our three-month anniversary of living in the village. I made a pie, which should be ready right about-” You’re cut off by your clock striking the hour, and hurry over to your oven. “Right about now!”

Luckily for you, the pie looks perfect, and you and Peter hurry to set the table before it cools off completely. Just before you can cut into it, though, there’s a loud knock at the door. Peter looks at you confusedly. “Were you expecting anyone?” You shake your head, but Peter’s eyes clear. “It must have been old Mr. Bennett from down the road. He always does this whenever I start on a new project for him- I’ve barely been working for longer than a minute before he’s coming back to the shop and listing some other new idea. I’ll answer him- it’ll just be another moment.

Peter stands up and walks over to the door, unlocking it and pulling it open. At the look of fear flashing across his face you stand up, too, and realize with growing horror that it is not simply old Mr. Bennett at the door, but instead, the King’s Guard stands before you.

“Mr. Parker? You are under arrest for the kidnapping of Princess Y/N. You will be coming with us.” The guards step forward, and you realize that everything the two of you have worked so hard for, the life that you have enjoyed so much, is crumbling around you.

You race forward and stand close to Peter, wrapping your arms around him. “No! You can’t take him!” The captain of the guards moves towards you, and pulls you away from him. You fight as hard as you can, but before you know it Peter is being dragged out of the room and you are left alone. You crumple to the ground, sobbing.

When you finally are forced back to the castle, you immediately go to your room and lock the door. No matter how many times your father or your guards or even your ladies-in-waiting try to convince you to let them in, that door remains locked. You cry and cry for what feels like forever, mourning the loss of your life with Peter. It had all happened so fast- one minute the two of you were sitting down to dinner, no worries in sight, and then the guards had swooped in and taken him away from you. The cherry pie was probably still on the table, uneaten. Would little Charlotte know what had happened to you? Would the people of the village know?

Later that night, you’re finally able to slip away from the newly posted guards at your door long enough to see Peter. You wind your way through the dank passages of the dungeons until you reach Peter’s cell, and, without alerting the dungeonmaster (nicknamed ‘The Vulture’ by the castle staff because of his harsh treatment of the prisoners) or the guards patrolling the cells, you unlock the cell door and fling your arms around the boy you love. He holds onto you tightly, and you cry quietly into his shoulder.

“Oh, Peter, I’m so sorry! I never meant for any of this to happen- this is all my fault- I never should have-” Peter cuts you off softly. “Never should have what? I don’t regret meeting you or falling in love with you for a second. It was my idea to run away together, and I probably should have made sure that we went further away from the castle.” You pull back from Peter for just a second, taking in the sight of him. You lace your fingers in between his, and guide him out of the cell.

“Where are we going?” Peter asks you in a hushed whisper, desperate to not attract any unwelcome attention. “I’m getting you out of here. Come on!” You guide your love through the passageways and out of the dungeons until the two of you are standing near a castle entrance, lit only by the light of the rising moon. You thrust a bag of food into Peter’s hands. “There’s a horse not too far from here, I saw it from my window. If you hurry now, you should be able to get out of here before anyone realizes.”

Peter looks at you, confused, but you continue on. “The von Struckers are angry that I ran away from the wedding, so my father is going off of some lie that you kidnapped me. By pretending that it was all your fault, he can keep the marriage intact and still get the money and resources that our kingdom so desperately needs. The problem is, kidnapping a princess is a terrible crime and they’d probably kill you.”

Peter laughs at that. “I’m not against leaving. Come on, let’s go.” He takes a few steps towards the door, but looks back at you when he realizes that you haven’t followed him. “Come on, Y/N. You said it yourself- we need to get out of here before the guards realize we’re gone.” You shake your head softly, trying to hold back tears. “The guards won’t realize I’m gone because I’ll be back in my room. You know I can’t go with you, Peter.”

Peter rushes back to you, holding you close in his arms. “Why not, Y/N? We could make it out- no one would notice-” You laugh mournfully. “I would love nothing more than to run away with you. Those few months we had in the village were the best of my life, but the guards found us because they were looking for me. If I stay here, they won’t come and find you, and you being safe is worth a hundred terrible marriages.” You gently disentangle yourself from Peter’s arms. “You need to go. There’s only so much time we have.”

Peter looks at you, and you swear you can feel his heart breaking right along with yours. “I can’t let you go, Y/N, you know that. Please, come with me.” You take one step back, hating yourself all the while. “I need you to be safe. I need you to live! Take the horse, and go as far away from here as you can and never come back. I will miss you every second of every day, but it will be worth it if I know you will be alive.” Peter rushes to you once more, and kisses you one last time. “I will never forget you, Y/N. I will love you for as long as I live.”

With that, Peter holds you tight one last time, and then quickly races off into the night. He turns back once, just before he’s out of view, and you watch him go for as long as you can. Once he fully disappears from sight, you let out the tears you’ve been holding back. Peter is gone, and you will never love again.
