Anyway I have purged my queue of Ace Attorney (I posted it all, enjoy the the massive wall of nonsense from me.) So now it's just miscellaneous and then The New Brainrot.

There's already an image of one of these clowns on here so enjoy that.

But anyway... It's Vanitas Time.

I am unhinged about all of the characters but I am becoming absolutely unwell about the titular Vanitas himself.

He's an asshole and I like him so much.

He's unhinged. He's so disingenuous and so repressed but he's so bad at keeping his feelings in. I swear sometimes he's just dissociating in the middle of a conversation.

He's a bastard and a bitch. He hates both vampires and humans for their cruelty but not nearly as much as he hates himself.

He has completely given up on life and is sustaining himself purely on spite and guilt. He makes people hate him on purpose.

He is kind but not nice. He is the embodiment of that cat knife meme, you know the one. He is babygirl and pathetic little meow meow. I want to send him to therapy.*

His vibes are constructed entirely out of red flags. He's a bisexual man that you want to keep 20 feet away from all women at all times because geeeeez my guy learn to behave yourself. He's a sarcastic prick. He's incomprehensibly traumatized.

I want to run him over with a freight train. I want to wrap him up in a homemade quilt and give him a cup of hot cocoa. I want someone to hold him tenderly. I want that twink obliterated (gayly).

He looks and acts like a feral alley cat. His outfit is simultaneously iconic and absurd. I think he stole someone's gender. He wears gloves with claws on them.

He is terrified of genuine connection yet he craves intimacy so badly. He is a massive pile of trust issues.

He is doomed by the narrative, he is running out of time, he is destroying himself through every step of his objective. He knows he will likely destroy himself before he can ever succeed. He is terrified of losing his humanity. He calls his objective vengeance but I'm pretty sure it's actually absolution.

There is something very very wrong with him.💖💜💙

Alright no more fucking around. What if we get Aqua and Terra backstories in Missing Link

It might sound a little far-fetched but both UX and DR were in some ways about the rest of the BBS crew (Ventus, Vanitas, Xehanort and Eraqus) so Missing Link might pick up the pieces. Also, Terra and Aqua are basically the only main characters who don't have any backstories about what they were doing before the events of the game they were introduced in, even though they're some of the oldest and there'd be a lot of room to explore their childhoods.

So here's what I'm thinking: obviously they're not going to show up in Scala and turn out to be time travelers or reincarnations or whatever, but we might see something of their ancestors. Maybe Terra's and Aqua's greatgreatgreatgreat-grandparents were friends with people of Eraqus' bloodline and that's why Eraqus later takes on Terra and Aqua as students. Maybe we find out that Terra comes from a family of people susceptible to darkness, or that Aqua comes from a family of magic-casters. Maybe none of this is made that obvious in Missing Link itself but we'll get a flashback in KH4 where Aqua talks about living with her grandmother before moving to LoD and that's when they reveal that Aqua was the granddaughter of [Missing Link character] all along and all of us will be like "OH MY GOD AQUA WAS RAISED IN THAT FAMILY? THAT ADDS SO MUCH TO HER CHARACTER" and it'll be fucking insane

Or you know, maybe none of that will happen and Aqua and Terra will just be two teens who spawned in Eraqus' living room one day. I mostly just want to see Terra and Aqua again because I miss them lol

About Vanitas’s reaction to Noé and Domi’s relationship and some part of him wanting to be bitten by Noé, I will never forget that the first time he offered Jeanne his blood he was at first like “I just had a trauma response so I don’t really care anymore” and then he did an instant 180 when he remembered Noé drinking Domi’s blood to “Oh wait I am interested in getting my blood sucked by someone and since I love you I want it to be you of course.”

Yes exactly!

The problem with analyzing Vanitas is that he almost always has multiple motivations for everything he does, so this is by no means the only thing going on with him in these scenes, but one of his several drivers through the first half of the bal masqué is a consistent jealousy of Noé and Domi.

For the first few chapters, Noé is alone in a place where he knows nothing and no one, and he and Vanitas pretty quickly end up as each other's Person as a result. Vanitas sees Noé as his to do with as he pleases, and he enjoys it. Then he finds out that Noé is an Archiviste, instantly transforming him into a potential danger to be wary of, and also making him thoroughly off limits in a way he wasn't before. And then Domi shows up! And Vanitas is confronted with somebody that is not only actually close to Noé in a way that Vani isn't, but can also let him bite her whenever she wants, which Vanitas now knows he cannot do.

It's no wonder that, when he overhears Noé bite Domi and Domi call him mon chéri, he looks so oddly sad. Through her relationship with Noé, Dominique has something that he wants but cannot let himself have. And he has to sit there and listen to her having it!

So later when he complains about Domi and Noé ditching him to "canoodle," and when he puts Domi down for letting Noé drink her blood casually, it's largely because he envies her. (Plus, in the case of him degrading Domi as "convenient," it's a classic case of Vanitas's weird habit of making a misogynistic attack because a woman has reminded him of himself, but that's a can of worms for another day).

Then, when he gets to the balcony with Jeanne, all his longing and jealousy comes to a head. There's lots to say about his motives in that scene—how his early flirtation with Jeanne is a way of exerting power when he feels powerless, and how his throwing himself into danger and blood loss in that moment even kind of resembles self harm, but his feelings about Noé and Domi are also one of his big motivating factors. Like you said, thinking of DomiNoé in the carriage is a big part of what gets him into it. He covets what he thinks Domi has with Noé, and he's trying to get his own version of it with Jeanne.
