On April 15 I’ve sent my friend this meme as a perfect description of Olivier. Yesterday I found vol 11 omake with Sister Olivier, and then my hand just slipped

Bonus inspired by second omake: Machina and Teacher being Machina and Teacher 

When you really think about it, Noé is not a free character:

-he’s bound to his archiviste powers

-he was kidnapped and sold having to call his owners “master”

-he’s basically Teacher’s pet

-he’s under Ruthven’s oath control now

-he’s bound to promises made to Vani and Louis

-Misha and JJ both force Noé to drink their blood

-Being sheltered gave Noé a limited scope on society and prejudice

All of these things were out of his control so he doesn’t dwell on them. There’s a moment I feel ppl don’t talk about in ch. 57. JJ apologizes for forcing Noé to see his memories and Noé absolutely brush it off. Everyone else is like….no you can be upset. You’re allowed to be bothered. Noé is so used to not having a choice, of thing being black or white that he genuinely doesn’t see the issue.

This is one of the many reasons I love the time loop/dream loop, because it’ll be the end result of all of this. After being restricted physically and metaphorically for so long, he creates his own cage.

The tragedy of Noé it will never get old.

I’m imagining shiguang lying together in bed, LG listening to CXS gush about all his childhood stories. They talk about their college years, the future of their studio. A client they’ll have an appointment with in the morning, when they need to pick up Elizabeth, and if QL will mercy them with this month’s rent coming.

Cheng Xiaoshi holds Lu Guang tighter and whispers goodnight. And when he’s asleep, LG whispers I love you in return.

And then a couple months later:

CXS: Hey new kid what’s your favorite color?

LG:…..gold.

Just recently found your blog and i love it!!! do have any theories for vanitas' original name? My guess is Abraham, for all it doesn't really fit him, after Abraham van hellsing, who is both a doctor and vampire expert, which I think matches mochijuns naming conventions. Doesn't hurt that it matches with Noe (noah) religiously.

Traditionally, I've always said I don't have any strong theories on Vanitas's name—at least none that I actually expect to come true. I think(?) I've talked about this before, but that's not really the kind of theorizing I do? Since right now any name theory is wild guessing and speculation, not elaborating from the text.

That said, I do now have one pet theory that I'm partial to (one I didn't have the last time someone asked me this). I don't actually think this is going to be the case in canon, but for now, I really enjoy the concept of Vanitas's real name being Byron. This is mostly because I think it would be funny, but there are some actual connections too.

Long context short, Lord Byron wrote an unfinished draft of what would have been the first modern vampire story, and then his personal doctor (John William Polidori) took the same idea and fleshed it out into The Vampyre—the actual generally recognized first modern vampire story. But! Polidori's version of the vampire (the version that established a lot of our vampire tropes) was partly inspired by Byron himself. So Byron is sort of this almost-but-not-quite vampire author, writing but also inspiring the tropes of vampirism, which reflects interestingly on Vanitas's relationship to actual vampirism. He's not a vampire, but he's much closer to one than any other human, and in demeanor, he acts more stereotypically vampiric than Noé and many other vampire characters.

Also, Byron is the namesake of the Byronic hero, which Vanitas is a perfect example of. He's brooding, cynical, arrogant, and intelligent, but despite his gloom and self-destructiveness, he has a sort of lonely magnetism about him. Once again, the concept of the Byronic hero is inspired by/named after both Byron himself and the characters he wrote.

As I said, I don't think I'm going to be right about this, as there's a million other theories that could fit just as well, but in the meantime, the concept does tickle me. Polidori's Byron-based vampire even has an especially strong connection to the moon :D.

Anyway, I really like your theory as well. I've noted before that it's interesting that there's no Van Hellsing reference in VnC (or any direct Dracula references at all, save poor dead Mina). It's almost surprising given Dracula is the iconic vampire story. I never even considered that there could be a Dracula reference hidden right there in Vani and waiting to be discovered, but it does make sense. The doctor/vampire expert connection is really fun and fitting! Though I'm afraid I don't know enough about the biblical Abraham to say anything interesting about that aspect beyond what you pointed out there.

If Johann is Spider does Gano even know? I doubt the mask had ever come off and I think it’ll be hilarious if when they meet again with Ruthven, Johann nearly chokes him to death for hurting Dante. And Gano is flabbergasted he’s been working with a dham this whole time.

Btw am I the only one that think Ogier’s worse than Gano? I mean I don’t hate either of them with passion, mochijun can write an asshole.

But Ogier is the one who snuck scissors to a 9-year old who lost his whole family, smiling while suggesting to off himself.

That’s worse than anything Gano can do imo.

The only character I will always defend no matter what is Chan-il. He did not deserve to be in the middle of all this, how can anyone dislike him? All he did was exist. Skylar and Cirrus got to figure their shit out and that’s not on you WE STAN CHAN-IL IN THIS HOUSEHOLD

Can I be real rn? Why is litc lowkey peak fiction? I haven’t caught up but I am creeping up to what is the end of s1. Cirrus and Skylar have so many layers and they’re written so well. And this messy relationship they have is where they can be their true selves. Saying litc is simply toxic yaoi might be a mistake. That’s the only thing I knew going in. But I’ve gotten through 50 chapters and there’s barely any romance going on. Most of this has been psychological pain with a dash of humor.

It’s like when ppl ask if Banana Fish is a bl. That’s too basic to describe what’s going on here.

Love their dynamic, red flags and all but I love them more as individuals. I want the best for them, together or not.

And if I said the vol 11 covers represent the time loop theory yup I can’t be normal Noé trapped in the gears of time always fated to be an onlooker to the tragedy of his life. Fated to yearn for Vanitas and his happiness but can never touch.
