About Noé's latest neurodivergent adventures (chapter 61.5 and 62)

(things I found relatable)

1. PUTTING UR HAND UP BC U CANT FIGURE OUT WHEN TO SPEAK. EVERYONE THINKS UR WEIRD FOR IT BUT ITS POLITE AND LIFE IS FUCKING HARD

2. Struggling to follow conversation, and seeing clearer ways of communication that no one else can and getting frustrated that the neurotypicals are so obviously communicating poorly

3. Vanitas designated translator

4. Being quite blind to politics (when it comes to discrimination against himself as a vampire [and his PRIVILEGES as a vampire] and in this case against others like dhams) bc he works individual by individual instead of by social categories

5. Last of all it hurts to see the other characters calling him ignorant and an idiot all the time bc Ive been there. He's booksmart, he's intelligent, just not socially, but here is everyone writing him off as dumb just bc he's different.

Its not like he's ignorant on purpose. Of course it's important to know this shit he's learning now, and it can be done, but it's a lot harder when ur autistic and, as Vanitas said, when u grow up so isolated. Learning is a neverending process and Noé is very clearly learning and just bc he works differently like putting his hand up to speak or interpreting the world differently doesn't mean he's stupid

I have a theory regarding Jeanne's family: What if the reason why her family was killed by the Vampire Council was because they were the ones who killed Vanitas' family?

Interesting thought, but I don't think that works with what we already know.

(from mémoires 32 and 39)

Jeanne's parents were killed because they betrayed the vampires' war cause. Ruthven arranged a peace talk between humans and vampires, and Jeanne's parents, Ruthven's students, betrayed him in order to work with humans and kill the vampires assembled at that peace talk.

Plus, even if that reason turns out to be not entirely true, Jeanne's parents were killed before the Beast of Gévaudan incident, which means they were killed well over 100 years before the in-universe present day. As much as his backstory is mysterious, we have no reason to think Vanitas was alive back then. Jeanne's parents couldn't have killed Vanitas's dad because Vanitas's dad probably wasn't even born yet when they died.

Anyway I have purged my queue of Ace Attorney (I posted it all, enjoy the the massive wall of nonsense from me.) So now it's just miscellaneous and then The New Brainrot.

There's already an image of one of these clowns on here so enjoy that.

But anyway... It's Vanitas Time.

I am unhinged about all of the characters but I am becoming absolutely unwell about the titular Vanitas himself.

He's an asshole and I like him so much.

He's unhinged. He's so disingenuous and so repressed but he's so bad at keeping his feelings in. I swear sometimes he's just dissociating in the middle of a conversation.

He's a bastard and a bitch. He hates both vampires and humans for their cruelty but not nearly as much as he hates himself.

He has completely given up on life and is sustaining himself purely on spite and guilt. He makes people hate him on purpose.

He is kind but not nice. He is the embodiment of that cat knife meme, you know the one. He is babygirl and pathetic little meow meow. I want to send him to therapy.*

His vibes are constructed entirely out of red flags. He's a bisexual man that you want to keep 20 feet away from all women at all times because geeeeez my guy learn to behave yourself. He's a sarcastic prick. He's incomprehensibly traumatized.

I want to run him over with a freight train. I want to wrap him up in a homemade quilt and give him a cup of hot cocoa. I want someone to hold him tenderly. I want that twink obliterated (gayly).

He looks and acts like a feral alley cat. His outfit is simultaneously iconic and absurd. I think he stole someone's gender. He wears gloves with claws on them.

He is terrified of genuine connection yet he craves intimacy so badly. He is a massive pile of trust issues.

He is doomed by the narrative, he is running out of time, he is destroying himself through every step of his objective. He knows he will likely destroy himself before he can ever succeed. He is terrified of losing his humanity. He calls his objective vengeance but I'm pretty sure it's actually absolution.

There is something very very wrong with him.💖💜💙

Pausing my program of BSD analysis to quickly talk about VNC because

I had started the anime fully thinking that Vanitas was A) a Vampire and B) THE Vampire of the Blue Moon. This is a little bit the anime's fault, as they had introduced the Vanitas story if the opening scene, and it's likely that this was the actual plan for the mangaka in the beginning.

So I spent the first few episodes being like "yes ofc it makes sense that Vanitas is acting all high and mighty. He kind of his. His disguise is kinda shit too, like how does he explain the fangs??" and viewing every interaction hinting at his backstory as "Vanitas doesn't consider himself a good person because he was the one that caused the maladies in the first place. No he's changed and is trying to fix it, but he carries that guilt with him" and it makes perfect sense! Noe calls his deeds noble and Vanitas laughs because Noe doesn't know anything.

But then turns out that yes, Vanitas is in fact just a human boy (well, mostly), and honestly, this was the most brilliant choice the writer could have made. Vanitas's self-hatred doesn't make sense but it's not supposed to make sense. It's the self-hatred of a child that internalized guilt over simply being alive. Survivor's guilt, if you will. And it doesn't matter that his father loved him and supported him because he saw the way the adults missed his mother, and without someone directly counteracting it his first thought was "It's my fault".

He way children and childhood trauma is portrayed in VNC is so good?? It's real, because what caused that trauma wasn't just cruel adults, sometimes terrible things just happen.

...Then again, it doesn't help that there's like ONE main character adult who isn't a terrible person.

tbh something i tinker with in a fic i fantasize about writing rather than actually writing is the idea of blue moon vampires resuscitating but without any memories. the transition between human and the Other being marked by a complete loss of self. Not twds becoming a demon but just unbecoming. Someone who is alive except they arent themselves - or anyone - anymore. I find it so intriguing as a horror proposition to have Vanitas go that way, since choosing how he dies is an attempt to recover bodily autonomy after so many violations, but this too is denied to him
