All of this happened because I wanted Billy to be close enough to El and Max to be the one to tell them to "dump his ass" when it came to their boyfriends and them to pull an uno reverse card and say the same thing to him when Steve fucks up.
Okay but imagine if Max and Billy were close, as in super close from the minute they met. Max wanted to be exactly like her big brother, so she picked up surfing and skateboarding, learned to appreciate metal music and  cooking and eating Mexican food. On Billy’s end, he was quickly forced to drop all of the friends he didn’t want around his precious baby sister, and he was forced to clean up his act a bit more but he didn’t mind any of it because he loved her.
Imagine tiny Max being brought to the arcade by tiny Billy and his best friend, Argyle and them showing Mad Max the skills she needed to beat the other kids who came in. Imagine Billy eagerly taking her to the carnival and the fair whenever it came to town because he knew that Neil would have no choice but to let him go with Max when Max begged her mom to let her.
Imagine tiny Max seeing Neil punish Billy for the first time in front of her and her stepping in front of him, telling him that he can’t punish him for what she’d done. Neil thinks for a split second about punishing Max the same way he punishes Billy, but he knew he’d lose Susan and any hopes of his good, Christian Man image would be ruined if he had two divorces that accused him of domestic violence and child abuse. He could survive one but another would cause doubts, so he grounds Max and Billy instead.
Max quickly realizes the power she holds over her mom and subsequently, Neil so in her own, devious ways she manufactures reasons for them to be out of the house. Swimming lessons taught by Billy, going over to a friend’s house, needing to work on a project with her groupmates and even learning new tricks for her skateboard were all utilized by Max in such a perfect way to make sure her brother could be kept away from his father as much as possible. Susan and Neil caught on but Susan didn’t want to stop it since her children were getting along and Neil wanted to keep Susan around.
Max would beg Susan to let her watch Billy practice so she could cheer on him, even asking him to teach her how to play baseball and basketball even if some said it wasn’t for girls. Billy would fight anyone who even hinted at insulting his little sister and her constant presence by his side. He loved his little sister with all of his heart, and he wouldn’t stand for anyone hurting her.
Imagine quiet sessions at the local library after school where Billy would do homework while Max would read or vice versa before walking home for dinner because Max just loved the library after Billy had showed it to her and it was a nice haven away from the worsening situation at home. Imagine Billy’s best friend and his family happily welcoming Max into the family the same way they welcomed Billy into the family.
Imagine Max and Billy always covering for each other until Neil catches on and forces them to move to Hawkins after accidentally catching Billy on a date with a boy. Max apologized profusely for not protecting her brother since she was at a birthday party, but Billy doesn’t blame her for it, only his own stupidity.
Billy had to be hospitalized for a few days after the beating Neil gave him so Susan, Neil and Max had to pack up the house. Neil initially wanted to pack Billy’s stuff so he could get rid of some of his things, but Max stood her ground and asked her mom to be the one to deal with Billy’s room as punishment for lying to them about where Billy was so Neil grudgingly agreed to it.
Max packed everything up with care, making sure that he had all of the things important to him packed and included. Neil couldn’t protest when Max would keep bringing out boxes from Billy’s room even if it filled up the moving van they rented because it was Max’s punishment.
Neil tried to draw the line at their surfboards and skateboards but grudgingly allowed it as long as Max was the one who carried it to the van and as long as she got everything in by the end of the day. Out of pure spite, she managed to move all of Billy’s and her stuff into the moving van well before dinner that day.
When they make the move to Hawkins, Max stubbornly refuses to go with Neil and Susan even if meant missing a week of school, forcing Neil and Susan to leave her and Billy at the practically empty house for a week until Billy was fit enough to drive.
They spent that week camping in their living room and seeing their last haunts and having proper goodbyes with their friends. Billy makes sure to remind Max not to feel guilty about what happened to him because it was his own fault and Max just tells him that she doesn’t like seeing him get hurt.
They make the trip up to Hawkins in full road trip style, singing along to all of their tapes, making sure to stock up on snacks and stopping by at all of the major landmarks they could. Neil couldn’t do anything about it because Max had begged Susan to give them the weekend to make the trip since she wasn’t sure if Billy could drive for long hours on end.
By the time they arrive in Hawkins, both Max and Billy are still riding the high of their trip. They even arrived early, getting to Hawkins by the mid-afternoon. After stopping by the house to prove that that they were still alive, Max begged her mom to let her explore the town proper before unpacking and of course, she needed a chaperone.
They head immediately to the arcade where they beat all of the high scores in turns to make a bunch of nerds cry the next day before hitting the skatepark with the skateboards they kept in the trunk of the Camaro. They make it home just in time for dinner so Neil can’t complain, and they unpack the essentials before heading to bed.
The next day, Billy cooks breakfast for everyone as usual since he was the first one up and he takes care of packing Billy and Max’s lunches. He also makes enough food for Susan and Neil to take which Neil begrudgingly takes since Susan loved how Billy “volunteered” to cook breakfast and lunch for everyone once Max told him how much she loved the food he made.
He takes Max to school relatively early because neither of them likes to be late and he doesn’t hesitate to bring her in for a hug and kiss her on the forehead in public before wishing her a good first day. From the get-go, he wants everyone to know that he cares about his younger sister even if it means losing some of his cool points.
Billy had long since accepted he wouldn’t be one of the cool kids if it meant having to go to parties and doing things that wouldn’t make him a good role model to his very impressionable little sister. Sure, he liked metal music and drinking as much as the next guy but if he started drinking, his sister would want to copy him, and he didn’t want her anywhere near that until she was legal.
So, Billy takes it cool and tries his best not to stand out so much even if transfer students are a rarity in Hawkins, Indiana. He could always feel at least ten different stares at him, most female but not everyone and it felt like they were trying to dissect him under the microscope of a Midwestern small town.
Billy could kind of understand it. He dressed like a punk and he drove a gorgeous classic car but he was also on the honor roll and loved his sister more than anything. He was probably the most complex thing they dealt with since the Vietnam War, but he didn’t let that bother him. He didn’t need to make friends here. He just needed to survive long enough for him and Max to be able to head back to California where they were meant to be.
After their first day, he treated Max to a milkshake at the local diner and asked her how her first day was. He listened to her rant about the weird stalker nerds who followed her around and he started to feel overprotective before looking at it from a teenage boy perspective and telling Max that at least one of those boys had a crush on her.
Thankfully, Max was still at the phase where she thought all boys were disgusting because Billy didn’t want to deal with his little sister dating just yet so Billy could tease her all he wanted about it. He didn’t have the same hang ups about race as Neil and because Max being friends with someone was more acceptable than Billy being friends with someone, so Max usually became friends with Billy’s friends and vice versa.
They were almost finished with their snack when some of the popular kids he’d seen earlier tried to come over and befriend him while being mean to Max and Billy did not stand for it. He put that dick Tommy in his place verbally and then physically the next day at basketball. He’d heard Tommy bitch in the locker room about him and some guy named Harrington because they were weird creeps who preferred to hang with tweens than people their own age.
Out of spite, Billy went to befriend Harrington especially when he realized that Harrington was in charge of the dweebs who creeped out Max. He and Steve became a dream team on court, thoroughly demolishing Tommy’s team and leading Hawkins to its first winning streak in decades. He even gave Steve some much needed advice to help the nerds flirt better with his sister if they want to even have a chance at getting her.
He didn’t bother with dealing with the in crowd, only becoming bare friends with his teammates from basketball and not really bothering to make friends outside of necessity. He’d had to befriend Steve out of spite and because of their many times overlapping because of the tweens they watched. He’d also ended up partnered with Nancy in most of his classes out of convenience and befriending her boyfriend out of politeness.
He still spent most of his free time with his sister though, beating the high scores of the kids Steve babysat while they watched in awe, practicing tricks with his skateboard or exploring the little Hawkins had to offer.
As soon as Neil found out that Max was hanging around boys, Billy was automatically told to be there with her every time the boys were there. It would have been a big problem had Billy not been a fellow nerd who could talk sci-fi and fantasy with the best of them and that he was capable of encouraging the boys to pick up sports, something that Lucas particularly took a liking to even if Max was getting more shots in than he did at the moment.
Billy and Max did feel something was off though because there was a lot of whispers between the tweens and between the teens they hung around with and it felt like they were keeping something a secret. Billy was a lot better about not being bothered about it because he had his own secrets to hide but Max was insistent that she or they be told before she considers them her actual friends even if they did hang out a lot.
So, when Lucas invited her to show her the truth about what they were hiding, she invited Billy because that’s just how it always worked. By the time Steve and Dustin arrive, they’re greeted to the sight of Billy braining demodogs with a pipe in front of a bus where Lucas and Max are hiding.
Billy was immediately roped into protecting the kids because they felt more confident with him and Steve there to keep away the demodogs and they make it out of everything alive and unscathed even if Bob had had to sacrifice himself in the lab.
As soon as El and Max meet properly without the tension of the boys there, they quickly become best friends, considering themselves sisters. Because of that, they agree to share Billy as an older brother, not even bothering to consult him about it but he just goes along with it because more sisters equal more fun.
Max and El got ready together to go to the Snow Ball and of course, Billy went with them to go shopping for their dresses, accessories and makeup. Billy was a smart asshole who could afford to charge exorbitant prices for people who wanted to have their homework done so he had a lot of spare cash to spoil his sisters with.
The night of the Snow Ball, he and Steve had ended passing time at the quarry and trading stories until Steve couldn’t help himself and he kissed Billy in the moonlight, fully expecting the blond to push him away instead of melting into the kiss.
Afterward, Billy awkwardly confesses the crush he’s had on Steve ever since he first saw him while Steve tells him that he’d gradually fallen for him after getting to know the real him and seeing the way he was with the kids. They end up getting together that night just as Lucas and Max and Mike and El get together.
They manage to keep it a secret to most of Hawkins but the kids can immediately tell that their babysitters are now together because they happily sit in a separate booth when they don’t fit in the diners and they never stay to play at the arcade anymore.
Both El and Max tease Billy about Steve while he teases both of them about Lucas and Mike respectively. He teases Mike a bit more though because he actually likes Lucas. Billy’s the first to tell El to dump his ass when he’s being annoying and it quickly catches on to Max as well.
It becomes their new thing especially during the summer where they enjoy being single and going on best friend dates while dragging Billy away from his boyfriend to chaperone them. They even convince him to dump Steve after he stands him up for a few dates in a row. Suffice to say, Steve showed the boys how to properly grovel to their significant others so that they’ll take them back.
Since Steve was busy with Scoops and Billy had gotten a job at the pool, the kids equally trade time at the mall and time at pool. They notice the moms acting weirdly towards Billy and they tell Steve who tells Nancy because she deserves to know the type of woman her mother is.
Nancy is disgusted to find out that her mom is one of them and she makes sure to go over there and emphasize to her mom and to all of her mom’s friends that Billy’s her friend who happens to be in her year while all of them have kids in their year or older. She even tells that all of their kids should have a get together soon since Billy’s 17th birthday is coming up and he’ll be a year closer to being legal.
All of the moms turn white at the implication of Nancy’s words and they stop showing up at the pool, making Billy be able to relax and enjoy his work without being stared at. He becomes really good friends with Heather and the rest of the lifeguards there which makes it a lot easier for him.
Of course, since it’s the summer, El and Max want to go on road trips and it’s on one of their trips heading past Brimborn Steelworks that they get attacked by the Mindflayer that’s still weakened at this point so El deals with it with relative ease and alerts everyone to what happened.
The entire time Billy had been keeping Neil’s abuse secret from everyone with the help of Max but when Hopper escorted Max and Billy home from the accident with the Mindflayer with a trashed car, Neil doesn’t hold back and swings at Billy in full view of Hopper.
Hopper doesn’t hesitate to grab him and put him in a hold before arresting him and leaving him at the station while they dealt with the Russians. It left Billy and Max free to help Steve and Dustin with the Russian transmission they found so they crack the code a lot faster.
Hopper and Joyce decide to investigate what happened at the same time that the mall group cracked the code so they realize that this might be connected and bigger than they thought. They radio Dr. Owens for back up and they manage to deal with the Russians and the gate with some military support.
Since no one else was flayed, Hawkins goes on like normal even if the mall was shut down due to a fire from faulty wiring. Life goes on and the kids start their first year in high school while Billy is in his senior year. Everyone already knows not to mess with the kids or else they’ll deal with Billy’s fist.
After Neil was arrested, Susan was convinced by Joyce to testify against her husband and to divorce him so she could take custody of their kids. She couldn’t fully support them on her own salary so they decided to move to the trailer park to save some money. Billy’s car had been fully repaired under government money and they’d been given a lot of hush money by the government but they couldn’t explain how they got it.
Billy got a part-time job working as a mechanic in the same shop as Wayne Munson so he and Eddie became quick friends. Billy was also introduced to Chrissy by Heather as soon as Chrissy came back from gymnastics camp and he instantly takes her under his wing since she reminds him of how his sister used to be.
He immediately introduces Chrissy to Max and El whom Heather adores and together, the three of them convince Chrissy to dump Jason’s ass. When Billy sees the sparks between Eddie and Chrissy, he instantly plays matchmaker, practically daring Jason to do anything because everyone knows that messing with Billy’s friends is a surefire way to get your ass kicked.
Heather and Chrissy take up a mentor like role to the girls about high school life and even if they don’t exactly plan to be cheerleaders, they can be athletes which gives them a good outlet. Lucas is very understanding of Max’s training schedule because he has to deal with the same thing so they end up being supportive of each other’s sports careers. Mike is too focused on Hellfire to properly support El so she dumps his ass for real.
El notices immediately that Chrissy needs help so she, Max and Billy devise a way to get her to eat properly and to open up with the girls about the problems she’s dealing with. Billy starts packing an extra lunch for Chrissy which isn’t a problem since he does all of the groceries and cooking at home since Susan’s working two jobs now.
When she confesses that she’s dealing with an abusive mother, Billy and El are able to somewhat understand and they help Chrissy make small steps in her recovery. Eddie inadvertently plays a big part in her recovery because he loves to see her happy and he’ll do anything to make her happy, even bribing Billy to make her favorite treats.
With Billy as the captain of the basketball team, he makes sure to give everyone equal playing time and to check in with his teammates the way he wasn’t able to before. He’s able to become close to a few kids like Patrick and he had an understanding with Jason and his cronies about what they could or could not do unless they wanted to be off the team which would cost them their sports scholarships which were the only things they relied on for college.
Since he and Steve have gotten together, he’s made more of an effort to connect with the people of Hawkins since he’d be staying for a few years more. They’d decided to stick around together until the kids graduate high school just to make sure they were safe even if it meant changing their college plans.
Billy was planning to head to Chicago where he could study at a decent college but still be close to Max in case any bullshit happened. Steve also happened to get into a college in Chicago with Billy’s influence in academics and his dad’s company was based in Chicago so he had a backup in case he decided college wasn’t for him.
The entire time, Billy has been spoiling Henry Creel’s plans so out of frustration and a bit of petty revenge, he targets Billy first. El and Max immediately notice something is happening with Billy and Steve notices it too. When he mentions seeing hallucinations, El immediately call Kali to come to Hawkins for help. Since Billy’s usually blaring his music all the time, the only time Henry can strike is at the trailer park.
However, Eddie’s usually playing music so Billy doesn’t need to play his. Eddie just so happens to be playing one of Billy’s favorite songs, Ride the Thunder and when Max notices that the music helped Billy float less, she yells at Eddie to play louder.
They manage to save Billy from dying and being injured but now they know Henry’s mode of operation and all of them are on edge. When Chrissy starts displaying the same symptoms, Billy’s quick to learn her favorite song so he can have his Walkman on standby. He manages to save her but he doesn’t save Fred and it kills him inside.
He does manage to save Patrick though after seeing the same symptoms and after letting the girls and the other kids figure out what’s happening while Billy’s focused on saving everybody and keeping them all alive. He tells Chrissy and Patrick all about what they’ve been missing out on with the Upside Down and Eddie joins in the crew after saving Billy and Chrissy.
With everyone there ready to help and Billy willing to sacrifice himself with Steve making Max and Lucas promise to keep his boyfriend alive, they manage to take care of Vecna once and for all. Kali distracted him while El finished him off and they realize that everything’s finally over after Kali revealed that she’d taken care of Brenner on her way there.
With Billy’s help, Eddie manages to graduate alongside Heather, Chrissy, Nancy and Jonathan and Robin with Steve, the kids and their parents in the audience cheering. Eddie and Chrissy both make plans to travel the country for a while after everything they’ve been through and Steve and Billy happily join them when the couple offers. Jonathan and Nancy were accepted to their dream college and were headed there together in the fall while Robin and Heather were taking it slow and exploring this new thing between them.
Max and Lucas were as strong as ever and so were Susie and Dustin. Will finally confessed to Mike who had to actually confront his feelings not only for El but also Will and to realize the difference in how he loved them. He couldn’t live without Will but he could live without El. El and Mike eventually rekindle the friendship once Will and Mike are secure in their relationship while El looks forward to discovering who she is and who she wants to be with her sisters and her big brother by her side.
Joyce and Hopper eventually got married which made Mike pale the first time he realized just how badly Hopper was going to hate him from going form dating his daughter to dating his son but they manage to resolve it after a few months of intense glaring. Susan has weirdly accepted all of the new people in her life that her kids have brought in and all of them get the right compensation they have for dealing with the clusterfuck that Dr. Brenner and his favorite son had created and they’re free to finally live again.

i can’t stop thinking of Billy & Chrissy
i just love these two so much 🤍
original post and handcanons one & two
• Chrissy always rides shotgun. Always. It’s Billy’s rule. And if anyone tries to take that spot from her, Billy glares at them as Chrissy awkwardly stands outside the Camaro, waiting for them to move to the back because she knows that’s her spot.
• When they get high together, Chrissy calls him ‘Silly Billy’ because Billy gets giggly when he smokes. He hates the nickname, especially when Eddie begins to use it, but he can’t be too upset since he knows Steve thinks it’s cute.
• Chrissy softens Billy in the same way Billy hardens Chrissy. He holds his tongue more and considers putting himself in other people’s shoes while Chrissy speaks up a little louder when she’s uncomfortable and begins to talk back to people when they’re rude to her.
• Before Billy and Steve start dating, they hang out as a group with Chrissy and Robin, just to…test the waters. To see if they’re allowed to be near each other again and try to make some kind of friendship work. The girls call their hang outs ‘friend dates’ because they both know that their guys are into each other but they’re taking it slow. Almost too slow. Eventually, once they’re comfortable, Billy and Steve stop asking the girls to hang out with them and the girls are ecstatic.
• When Chrissy and Eddie get married in their late twenties/early thirties, her father has passed on and her mother outright refuses to go to the wedding - so Billy walks her down the aisle. He manages to keep a poker face until he sees how blissfully happy she is to take Eddie’s hand and stand next to him, joyful tears in her eyes as the couple quietly giggles in excitement together. Chrissy’s happiness means the world to Billy and he wipes at his eyes when he’s sitting down again, feeling Steve rub his back soothingly as they watch their friends marry.
• (tw minor unintentional self harm) After leaving the hospital, Billy’s anxiety can get so bad that when he overthinks, he chews on his fingernails until they’re red and sore - even picks at the skin of his thumb nail until it bleeds, but he never notices until it’s too late. Chrissy, on the other hand, does notice and tries to help by bandaging what’s hurt and carefully applying lotion to his hands, even brushes on some cuticle oil from her manicure set. It helps sometimes, but it isn’t until Steve gives him a silver ring to twirl around his middle finger that he significantly stops biting and picking.
• Billy picks out Chrissy’s nail polish when she can’t decide between two colours. Usually he leans towards blue, specifically powder blue, but he also thinks pinks and purples look good on her.
• After Steve asks Billy to go to a movie, with just the two of them, Billy asks Chrissy to help him pick out an outfit for the date. She knows that he doesn’t really need help with it (he probably had the outfit picked out months ago) but she knows that his anxiety has probably skyrocketed. He fiddles with his hair too much in the mirror, tries to get ready as he usually does by hyping himself up, but he’s so nervous. He really likes Steve and doesn’t want to fuck this up, not again, so by the time Chrissy arrives at his house he’s so close to cancelling the date. She sits him down on his bed and sternly tells him no, he’s not going to do that to himself and Steve, that’s not fair to either of them. And he knows she’s right, so he quietly thanks her and gives her a quick hug. It helps his anxiety to have Chrissy tell him what’s what.
• Billy and Eddie can sometimes be seen tying up their hair with a green scrunchie on hot summer days.
• (tw ed recovery) Chrissy can sometimes forget to eat when she’s busy, and while she does try her best with her recovery, it happens. She has complicated feelings about it; she wants to slip back into old habits and return to that familiarity, but then feels guilty about feeling that way. She opens up about it to Billy, who can’t fully understand but he acknowledges her struggle and gives her his support. When she’s busy with school and practice and homework, he’ll often pack her snacks in little ziplock bags and silently hand them to her when they’re alone in his car or at school. She eats every single snack and squeezes his hand in silent thanks, unable to believe how lucky she is to have such a friend in her life.
• When they graduate, they get matching tattoos: a small, simple sun in black ink. Chrissy gets hers on the inside of her left ankle while Billy gets his on the inside of his left wrist. They agreed on the sun because they had found solace in each other at what was the darkest time of their lives - they were each other’s sun, providing warmth and comfort. They keep the meaning of the tattoo to themselves because it’s theirs, so when people ask, Chrissy says it’s to remind her to be happy like the sun and Billy says it’s none of their goddamn business (but he’ll tell his friends that it’s a reminder of home: California).

Billy and Chrissy sitting at the edge of the field before school. Not much is said, mostly an assortment annoyed sounds coming from her as she watches him light a cigarette. A smirk and a eye roll in return. It's quiet but its nice. No expectations or questions about things they don't care about. Just silence before the distant sound of cars and chatter can be heard, the signal to put on their faces and get through a day of Hawkins High.

Wild Thing (You Make My Heart Sing)
Author: @moonwitch96
Rating/Warning: Explicit, referenced ED,
Chapter Count: 7/?
Description:
She died. Cracked and broken. He died. Impaled and standing tall. The Monster took, took until they simply had nothing more to give … Somehow, it’s the first day that Billy Hargrove sets foot in Hawkins High, and there’s this girl looking at him like the ghost he should be. Somehow, Chrissy Cunningham and Billy Hargrove find themselves alive and deal with that, their hearts beating in time.
Together.
Or Chrissy and Billy have a startling amount in common, an abusive parent, hyper-fixation on social expectations, and a horrible death at the hands of a Boogyman. She made herself small and pliant, while he made himself big and vicious. They’re just two hurt wild things at heart, who find a family within each other.

Here is a ficlet I wrote about Billy and Chrissy meeting at Pennhurst Hospital and becoming besties! Includes little sprinkles of Hellcheer and Harrigrove
⚠️TW!!! MENTIONS OF ATTEMPTED SUI*IDE & BLOOD ⚠️
Chrissy is severely depressed.
She has an abusive, narcissist mother, an emotionally neglectful and absent father, her boyfriend treats her like glorified arm candy, she has no real friends, her grades are going down the drain, and she is fighting an aggressive ED.
She turns to Eddie, and they meet in the woods as usual. That night they plan to do ketamine in his trailer after the game and hellfire club.
Only Eddie is kind of late meeting her in the parking lot and Chrissy thinks she’s being stood up and decides to walk home. The entire walk there is sadness, anger, and desperation simmering inside her. She wants out. Out of this town, out of her relationship, out of her home, out of her body. Out of this life.
When she finally gets home, she’s made up her mind. She knows her parents are out to dinner and her little brother is sleeping over at his friends.
It’s perfect.
Chrissy doesn’t bother writing a note. No one will miss her. It doesn’t matter.
She pulls out her mother’s sharpest knife from the kitchen and goes to the bathroom upstairs.
Once Chrissy makes a long vertical gash down her wrist, she immediately regrets it. She drops the knife and scrambles to cover the wound. To get help. Anything.
But she’s never been good with the sight of blood and there’s so much and she’s lightheaded and she passes out, her head knocking on the bathroom sink.
Her mother doesn’t find her until a couple hours later. The only reason she did was because the light in the bathroom was on.
Chrissy wakes up in the hospital, and she’s being bombarded by questions from her mother, the doctors, the cops, and all she can do is cry.
Her mother is angry. She embarrassed by what Chrissy did and ashamed of having a daughter like her. So, she makes the decision to temporarily commit her to a psychiatric asylum, an extreme measure. She doesn’t even look at her daughter’s face as Chrissy begs her not to send her away. Her mom signs the papers and passes them to her husband. He says nothing and signs them as well.
Jason comes to visit before they transfer her. He cries and begs to know why she would do this when they’ve been going so strong. He’s hurt that she would do something like this and asks her if she ever thought about how this would affect him if she died. She begs him not to let them take her, but he pats her on her good hand and says that this is for the best. They can continue their relationship once she gets better. Chrissy has to bite her tongue so hard to keep from screaming at the top of her lungs.
Meanwhile Eddie goes to his bands practice the next day and Jeff is saying that his mom who is a trauma nurse said that Chrissy Cunningham came in last night for trying to kill herself.
Eddie is horrified.
Last night he was disappointed but not surprised that Chrissy didn’t wait up for him. He was looking forward to meeting with her, honestly, he’s just not good with time and by the time he realized how late it was and he sprinted to his van, she was gone. He knows that Chrissy is not ok, that much was clear just from looking at her. She needs help and he wants to help her. He wanted to be there for her and fuck, he wasn’t there when she needed him most. And if he weren’t late to meet her last night she never would have tried to-
Eddie throws up in Jeff’s bushes and cancels practice, too upset to do anything but visit Chrissy in the hospital. He needs to see her.
But she’s not there anymore, they already moved her to Pennhurst and won’t allow visitors that aren’t immediate family for her first two weeks. He’s angry at himself for letting her down again. But he promises himself that he’s going to make it up to her.
Chrissy doesn’t belong here. Everyone here is older, angry, and crazy, and she doesn’t belong here. She’s scared and alone and more depressed than ever. She goes quiet. She has no visitors. Her mother is ashamed of her, Jason is scared of her, and no one else cares to see her. She gets calls from Jason, but she never talks, and the conversations are so short and one sided that they eventually stop altogether.
She’s sitting by herself in the recreational room, disassociating, when someone stands in front of her chair. It’s Billy Hargrove. She remembers hearing about him from the other guys on the basketball team. Last summer he nearly beat his father to death after an altercation, and they sent him away. She never gave it much thought because she never really gave Billy much thought before, but she never figured he would have ended up here. But who is she to judge?
He’s all cocky and smiling and teasing but she can see the pain in his eyes.
It takes time but Billy and Chrissy find themselves gravitating towards each other. They came from fairly close social circles at school last year and though they’ve never interacted before, there’s some familiarity there. They sit next to each other while they eat and do their activities near each other and go to group therapy sessions together.
It takes even more time, but eventually they bond. Chrissy begins to open up about why she’s there and what she’s going through, and Billy not only understands, but he also knows what it feels like having shitty parents and being the most popular kid and still not having anyone to turn to.
Chrissy begins writing her thoughts down, and it helps a lot. And she’s good at it. She shares her writing with Billy and encourages him to write for himself too. He tries, but it doesn’t work as well for him as talking does. So, he talks. He tells her about all his issues, and she listens. She never judges him, and that’s all he ever really needed.
Then, finally, Chrissy gets a visitor. It’s Eddie.
She is terrified of him seeing her like this, but she goes anyways thanks to Billy’s encouragement. He says that Eddie wouldn’t come all this way just to mock her and if he did then Billy would knock all his teeth out.
Eddie is quiet for the first time ever. He’s reserved when he first sees her and awkwardly asks her a few questions about her stay. Chrissy feels awful. She notices him looking at the large bandage covering her wrist and she pulls down her sleeve to cover it completely.
Just when she’s about to get up and leave Eddie tells her how sorry he is. He’s close to tears as he apologizes for abandoning her in her time of need and for not helping her the way she needed it. He tells her that he will do anything to help her, whatever she needs he will get it for her and that he will always be here for her when she needs him.
Touched, Chrissy covers his hand with hers as she sheds a few tears, thanking him for being so kind to her when he has no reason to be.
Soon, he is acting like his regular self again, and he is making a fool of himself just to get a smile or a laugh out of her. It feels just like they did at that picnic table and it’s almost like nothing’s changed at all.
As time goes by, Billy and Chrissy become even closer and begin to lean on each other more. Billy stands up for her. He’s her defender and if anyone even looks at her the wrong way, he will give them a piece of his mind. He tells Chrissy to stop apologizing all the time and she tells him that maybe he should start apologizing more.
He helps Chrissy with her ED. He finds out what she likes to eat and charms the cooks and orderlies to serve her food she likes. While they eat together, he will give her food off his plate that he knows she’ll eat and eat any food that she hates off hers.
After a revelation during a group therapy session, Chrissy tearfully confesses to Billy that she doesn’t want die. She wants to live. She just doesn’t want to live the life everyone’s chosen for her anymore. Billy is soft and comforting and understanding. He listens to her. He tells her that if something ever happened to her, he would care and that she doesn’t have to do a goddamn thing she doesn’t want to do. Then he pulls away to tell her to never pull some dumb shit like trying to hurt herself again because then he would be really pissed at her and that would suck because he hates being mad at her.
That makes her smile.
And Chrissy softens Billy. She helps rein in his anger when he gets angry at another patient or orderly or even himself. She talks him down from meltdowns and when she can’t, she still stays by his side, no matter how scary he gets. It’s something he’s grateful for. It makes him feel like less of a monster.
One night, he confesses to her why his father hates him so much, why he’s so angry all the time. He tells her how his dad’s been trying to beat the gay out of him since he was a kid, and he’s tried. He’s tried so hard not to be, but it’s who he is, he can’t change it. And Chrissy doesn’t look at him with revulsion or judgement, just empathy.
She reassures him that he is loved and wanted and that she accepts him as he his and Billy cries.
Eddie comes to visit her once a week. He brings journals, music, snacks, games, and books for Chrissy. They talk and joke and Chrissy can’t remember the last time she’s ever laughed this much before. Sometimes Billy joins in on his visits and the three of them become closer as a unit. Then, one day, Eddie brings in a stony, resentful, and angry little Max with him.
Billy is annoyed that his shitbird little sister is here, but Chrissy helps him realize it’s because he feels guilty for how he’s treated her, and he doesn’t want to face her. He’s not quite ready to begin apologizing and taking responsibility for his actions, but at least he can admit it to himself (and Chrissy) that he was wrong.
Max and Billy barely talk, can barely even look at each other, but at least she’s there. And Chrissy is nice enough for the both of them, so Max doesn’t feel unwanted while she’s there.
Max and Eddie begin to visit more often, sometimes bringing Lucas or Dustin or some other member of the group along too. The boys begin teaching Chrissy the rules of DND while Max and Billy roll their eyes and play a game of cards off to the side.
As the school year nears the end and prom approaches, Eddie convinces Nancy, Steve, Robin and the kids to help him throw an impromptu dance for Chrissy and Billy since they’re going to miss the real one. (This is when everyone officially knows that Eddie is head over heels in love with Chrissy when he’s actually planning a prom for her)
Billy and Chrissy get to dress up and dance and sing with their friends, carefree and happy for the first time in a long time. Eddie smuggles in a flask for them to share and Billy gets drunk quick since he hasn’t had a drink in almost a year. He pulls Steve aside and apologizes for beating him up that one time and for being such a dick. Steve isn’t sure how to respond but accepts his apology because he can tell that Billy really means it. Billy pulls him in for a hug and now Steve’s really confused because it feels nice.
Soon after, due to his progress and good behavior, Billy’s sentence gets reduced by a couple months, and he gets released from the hospital. He and Eddie and the others try to petition to let Chrissy out too, but they legally can’t without parents’ permission. They have to wait until she turns 18, which is another month away. Chrissy is sad that he’s leaving her, but so proud that he’s moving on and thankful for the time they had together.
As graduation approaches, Chrissy is terrified that everyone will forget her and move on with their lives, leaving her here to rot. When she expresses her fear to Eddie during one visit, he squeezes her hand and reassures her that he won’t leave Hawkins until she’s out of here and he knows she is safe.
She doesn’t feel alone anymore. Almost every other day either Billy or Eddie or Max or Nancy and Robin and Steve are coming to visit her. She has friends, real friends.
On Chrissy’s 18th birthday she signs herself out of Pennhurst. She knows that Eddie and Billy are probably waiting to pick her up but is surprised to find the entire party outside. They have balloons and presents and cake. And everyone is here for her. They surround her with hugs and kisses and love and even though she’s not completely healed yet, she knows that she’s going to be ok.

You know who I think would have been best friends with Billy? Chrissy. I think if Chrissy and Billy had survived Vecna then Chrissy would have gone on to date Eddie and Billy would be with Steve so they all would have been spending time together. Which would have led to Chrissy and Billy sharing war stories of what they went through with Vecna (the Mindflayer was a creation of Vecna so Billy dealt with him too in some form). Most importantly I think that Billy and Chrissy would have been able to have someone to talk to who understood what it meant to have abusive parents. Like Steve would always care and be supportive and he could understand in his own way having absentee parents but it’s not the same. Billy and Chrissy would get each other in a (platonic) way no one else could and I think that’s why they’d always have each other’s back.

Billy and Chrissy as Cousins AU
This started off as a wild and random idea but I wanted to see what would happen if I took it seriously
Imagine Neil moving back to Hawkins because he and his sister grew up there and he knew he could straighten his boy out if he took him away from all of the temptations California has. His older sister loves bragging about her daughter Chrissy so he wanted to see what her influence would do to him since they were the same age and maybe, he hoped that Chrissy would set Billy up with another good Christian girl like her and he’d be able to be as Neil wanted him to be. It’s been years since they last saw each other in person but he knew that they’d been talking for a while, and it may have been what kept his son away from some of the harder drugs and parties.
Imagine tiny chubby Billy meeting baby gymnast Chrissy at every other Thanksgiving and Christmas and all of the major holidays because they used to live in Indiana before Neil moved Billy to California to keep him away from his mother. Imagine Billy writing to Chrissy when they moved after he cries about missing his best friend and his dad just shoves him a piece of paper and a pen to shut him up since he can mail to his sister since he has things to send her anyway.
Once Billy figures out how to send mail, he and Chrissy keep up their correspondence all throughout their childhood and well into their teens. They tell each other everything and she’s the first to know he’s gay and she doesn’t mind at all. She makes sure that Billy gives Max a chance and that they grow to become real siblings because she’s always wanted a sibling so Billy needs to treat his sister the way she would or else she’d stop writing to him. She tells him all about her boyfriend whom Billy says is a complete tool and when she finds out he’s headed to Hawkins after a big beating, she promises to help him in any way she can and that she’ll make him learn to love Hawkins too. She also can’t wait to officially meet Max because Billy’s like her twin so Max is essentially her little sister too.
Imagine Chrissy eagerly telling her cheerleader friends about her cousin who was supposed to transfer to their school today. She hasn’t seen him in years and they don’t send pictures because it costs money to develop. She tells them that he’s a nice choir boy who ran a mini business with baked goods out of his best friend’s kitchen who’s always been on the honor roll and everyone was expecting this fat kid to arrive, looking like every single typical nerd since that was the last picture she had with Billy when all of a sudden a blue Camaro comes roaring into the parking lot and Chrissy squeals because Billy had told her he drove a blue Camaro. She runs to his car and out comes this literal Blond Adonis who immediately pulls her into a spinning hug, straight out of the movies without any difficulty whatsoever. Everyone there just stared in shock for a good minute.
“Chrissy Cat!”
“Billy Bear, you’re here! You look a lot different than you did before.”
Chrissy wrinkled her nose, looking up at him which was odd since the last time they met, they were the same height.
“I told you I got into the gym and working out, but you didn’t believe me.”
“Sorry but you told me you loved to cook and bake. How can you look like that and still cook and bake?”
“My best friend, Argyle and his family eats most of it, so they deal with the weight gain and the washing up while I just do the cooking and baking.”
Just as Billy finished speaking, they heard the first bell ring so Chrissy grabbed Billy’s hand and tugged him to the office, barely letting him lock up his car properly.
“Come on, Billy! We’re going to be late!”
“Hold your horses, Chris. Let me just lock ‘er up.”
“Hurry! First period starts in 15 minutes.”
“I walk fast. Done!”
Since Chrissy was also in all honors classes with her mom’s pressure, she made sure that she and Billy had the same schedule, so they didn’t have any problems. She’d also talked to the teachers in advance, telling them about her cousin and how she’d really appreciate it if they could sit together for the time being while he adjusted to moving to a new town from the city. He had no problem charming the teachers with his knowledge and his smile and by lunch time, Billy Hargrove was the name on everyone’s lips. The old-fashioned teachers pursed their lips at his attire but none of them couldn’t deny that the kid was intelligent, easily assimilating and actually reciting which threw the teachers into a loop since they didn’t expect it. All the girls were wondering who the hell he was and if he was single and honestly, so were some of the boys.
Chrissy didn’t even give Billy the chance to check out the other tables before she yanked him to her table with just the cheerleaders there. Chrissy had been dragging him around the school to every class and he’d just went along with it even if she was a whole head smaller than him. She was very strong even if she was tiny and she was also excited because she got to spend time with her favorite cousin who also happened to be her best friend. Chrissy didn’t even give them the time to interrogate Billy since she speed introduced everyone before asking him about lunch.
Since Chrissy and Billy were the last ones to the table, Chrissy offered to get Billy some food from the cafeteria since everyone else had already gotten food but Billy had declined since he’d packed a lunch and he’d immediately offered to share his with Chrissy once he saw what was offered. After years of wondering what his cooking tasted like, Chrissy happily took the offered sandwich and ate it. Billy had long since gotten used to sharing his food since his best friend in California preferred his food instead, even paying Billy to make his lunch instead of buying from the cafeteria.
“Hey, Bills, do you want me to get you lunch too? I know what’s good here so I can steer you in the right direction.”
Billy brought out his food containers and water jug, meticulously packed in his bag to avoid being crushed.
“No need, Chris. I brought my own. Who knows what they consider food down here?”
Chrissy slapped Billy jokingly on the arm.
“Hey! Don’t insult our food.”
“Seriously, look at my food and compare it to their lunches.”
Chrissy honestly knew that Billy’s would be better just from looks alone but she was also stubborn about proving that Hawkins was alright, so she didn’t budge.
“Come on, I’ll even give you some,” Billy wheedled. “I brought too much anyway since Max wanted to try the cafeteria food. Bet she’ll be begging me to make her lunch tomorrow.”
“That’s a sucker’s bet, Bills but I’ll try it anyway. You brag about your cooking enough that this better be something amazing.”
“Trust me, Chris. It’ll blow your socks off.”
Chrissy definitely wasn’t disappointed since she finished the sandwich in record time, and she was ecstatic when Billy brought out a Tupperware with cookies for dessert since she’d told him a long time ago that chocolate chip cookies were her favorite. She squealed again and hugged him before sharing the cookies with the rest of the cheerleaders whose eyes all widened at how good it was. Chrissy was in the middle of bragging about the different types of things Billy said he could make when a shadow casts itself over her.
“Babe, who’s this?” Jason grounded out.
Billy was immediately on edge, already puffing up his chest, raring for a fight.
“Oh, Jason! Sorry, I forgot to introduce you. Billy, this is Jason Carver, my boyfriend. Jason, this is Billy Hargrove, he’s my cousin on my mom’s side.”
All of a sudden, Jason’s demeanor changed with a flick of a switch. Billy didn’t trust it.
“Oh! Nice to meet the cousin that Chrissy speaks so highly about.” He said, offering his hand out.
Billy stood up, very obviously noting the height and muscle difference between him and Jason before shaking his hand a touch too firm for most people to handle. Jason winced but didn’t pull away.
“Pity I can’t say the same. Chris, is this the best you can do?” Billy asked, pointing at Jason.
Jason took offense to that but he didn’t dare make a scene.
“Hey!”
“Jason’s a good man, Billy. He goes to the same church as us and he’s the best basketball player in our year.” Chrissy protested.
Billy laughed after looking Jason up and down while Jason tried to intimidate him.
“Him? Sorry, sweetheart but I’d mop the floor with him on the court in a heartbeat. Let me guess, his GPA’s a 2.”
“It’s 2.5 actually!” Jason interjected.
Billy scoffed.
“Like that’s any better.”
“What’s yours then, hotshot?”
Billy smirked.
“It’s 4.0, Carver. See you on the court later. Let’s see if you can keep up good enough that I’ll allow you to keep dating my cousin.”
“Excuse me?”
“You’re excused.”
Jason huffed before returning to his table. Chrissy slapped Billy on the arm, for real this time.
“Hey! What was that for?”
“Don’t pick a fight with my boyfriend, Billy.”
“Chris, I know for a fact you can do so much better than that asshole. Why are you even with him?”
Heather, Chrissy’s best female friend finally interjected.
“He’s the next in line king of the school after Steve Harrington dropped the crown. She’s the Queen of Hawkins High as long as they’re together and I’m guessing you know how much Sharon loves those things.”
“You’re telling me that Aunt Sharon likes that creep? It makes sense though. He’s the kind of asshole your mom would’ve gone for had she been your age.”
“Ew, Billy.” Chrissy crinkled her nose.
“It’s true though. Don’t deny it.”
“Anyway, lunch is about to finish. We need to get to our next class.”
“Let’s bounce. It was nice meeting you girls.”
“Likewise, Billy.” A few of the girls shouted as Chrissy dragged Billy away.
After classes, Billy had already been asked by Neil to bring Chrissy home after she had been picked up by Jason to go to school so Billy waited for Max before bringing her with him to the cheerleading practice where Heather was training Chrissy to be her replacement for the next year. During the water break, Chrissy officially met Max who was surprised at how bubbly and light Chrissy was. Max didn’t think she could be that type of girl but she couldn’t help but admit she was curious about it all. With Chrissy officially taking Max under her wing, she doesn’t really have time to deal with the boys until a demodog attacks her and Chrissy while they’re on their way to the town. Billy hears their screams and he immediately deals with it and he’s surprised when a bunch of kids in Max’s year show up and explain what the hell that was.
Billy’s been too busy threatening Carver to straighten up his act after he caught him getting handsy with another girl and making sure he stuck to it to properly befriend Tommy. Sure, they were teammates but nothing more than that. Billy still flirted with Steve at practice though but he never pursued the rivalry thing that everyone thought would brew between them. It was pretty much guaranteed that Billy was the new reigning King of Hawkins High after he’d embarrassed Jason and everyone else on the team on the court. Tina’s Halloween party only cemented it when Billy beat out the Keg record Steve had set even though Billy still tried to comfort Steve after watching his girlfriend kind of break up with him in front of everyone. The cousins ruled Hawkins High without giving a damn about it since Chrissy was so focused on making Billy and Max learn to love Hawkins too. She would constantly take them out of the house, always asking Neil politely if she could show Billy and Max around the town, making sure that she would keep them out of the house as much as possible.
Somehow, Chrissy and Billy ended up getting involved with the Upside Down way earlier when a demodog attacks the girls right outside of the Hargrove house and Billy doesn’t hesitate to protect his girls when push comes to shove. Afterwards, Chrissy also takes El under her wing and the trio of Max, Chrissy and El take over Billy’s life. Chrissy acts as their older sister and guru for all things teenage girl and she even helps them shop and get ready for the Snow Ball with Billy’s help. Billy’s also forced to teach El and therefore, also Max and Chrissy how to make all sorts of food and desserts whenever the mood strikes them and he’s their resident chauffer for trips while the boys rely on Steve. Since he can’t exactly cook or bake at their house or Chrissy house and Hopper’s cabin is out of the question, El usually asks Steve if they can use his kitchen. Steve’s fine with it as long as he gets some food out of it and after some time, he starts hanging around while Billy messes around in the kitchen.
With both Chrissy and Billy taking their grades seriously, Steve’s forced to study too and they replace Nancy as his support to apply for colleges. With Billy’s help, he even manages to get accepted into a couple of them but he decides to take a gap year to wait for the majority of his friends. Strangely enough, it becomes pretty normal for the students of Hawkins High to see Billy Hargrove, Chrissy Cunningham and Steve Harrington all together with Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers occasionally joining the trio. It becomes a normal thing for the five of them to study together at Steve’s house while Billy whips up either a snack or dinner for the entire group. Sometimes, the kids would play D&D at the basement with Billy trying his best to get the kids to eat some healthy food instead of just pizza while the older teens would either study or smoke together.
When summer begins, Chrissy encourages Billy to apply for the vacant lifeguard position that Heather told her about and when she notices the moms staring weirdly at Billy, she plots and gets her very Christian mother to loudly rebuke all of the women for lusting after a teenager and almost committing adultery. With that problem out of the way,  Billy’s free to enjoy teaching the tiny tots how to swim and to watch as the kids he’d slowly grown fond of play around in either the public pool or Steve’s pool. Chrissy had gotten a job at the mall so she’d loved having lunch with Steve and Robin who quickly became her lunch buddies. Billy would always pick her up and drop her off, usually with lunch and dessert to share.
When the girls enter their dump his ass phase, they get Chrissy to dump Jason too who heads to the motel to meet up with a girl to feel better about himself. The mindflayer gets him instead but when he immediately goes to flay Chrissy, she realizes something’s wrong and Billy’s there to stop him. They get El to figure out what’s wrong and they quickly get it out of him without killing him. Then, they have to deal with the Russians but with Chrissy and Billy there, things go much easier. After everything, everyone is alive and relatively okay, but Jason is traumatized, and he convinces his family to move away instead after being paid to keep silent about everything.
When Vecna starts his bullshit, Chrissy is in a much better place and so are a lot of the teens, all except Billy who might have friends but is still living with his abuser. Somehow, Eddie is still witness to the first victim but so is Chrissy who was there to support a friend of hers who wanted to try drugs. Eddie and Chrissy still flirted but when her friend started floating and going all weird, they didn’t know what to do! Chrissy immediately got to Billy who let everyone know what happened. All the while, she was dragging Eddie with her to make sure that what she saw actually happened.
With more minds working on the problem, they realize everything earlier leaving them time to prepare but Billy then realizes he’s been dealing with the symptoms. Chrissy is extremely horrified to find out that Billy was still a target after everything she had gone through to save him and she belatedly realizes that he also saved her from being a target so she’s angry at herself because she couldn’t save him. Strangely enough, it’s Eddie who comforts her about it.
Billy gets them to make peace with the fact that he’s a target, something that Steve is strangely bothered extremely by and he agrees to get them to set a trap for Vecna. Without Jason around to ruin things and with the town in chaos over the people dying of unnatural reasons, they manage to successfully deal with him with an especially irate Chrissy throwing Molotovs with uncanny aim and eventually stabbing him when she’s threatened after saying that you don’t scare me. She was almost meant to be a victim but she ends up beating him literally and figuratively. They manage to expose the Upside Down and to finally end things.
Surprisingly, as soon as things settle, Billy tells Chrissy that Steve had kissed him and that they were now dating. She also had news to share since Eddie was dating her now too. The quartet soon makes plans to move to California, far away from all of this nonsense with the Byer-Hoppers and with the rest of the kids promising to meet them there soon. Weirdly enough, all things worked out for the cousins because they had each other to rely on and they didn’t let each other down.

The Player and The Cheerleader

Billy Hargrove x Cheerleader Reader
Summary: All Billy thinks cheerleading is that's it's just flips and splits. The view changes when he has a run in with a certain Hawkins High School cheerleader.
...........................................................................
Billy didn't care for anyone by any means. Either it be in Indiana or California. If he doesn't see you as someone worth his time then he didn't talk to you or give you the time of day. One of those groups in specific were cheerleaders. From his point of view they were only pretty girls to look at, that's pretty much how everyone treated the cheerleader at this point. Pretty things to look at.
The cheerleaders sometimes had to share the gym with the basketball team. Which did peeve some the guys on the team but as long as the cheerleaders were pretty they could handle it. But there was one odd ball on the cheer team, the captain. Always mouthing off the players when they got to close to the cheerleaders or a ball got to close to hitting one of them.
"Hey! Shit for brains!" A voice can be heard from then other side of the gym. "I thought the point of the game was to get the ball in the basket?!"
"Jeezu..." Tommy huffed. "Can you seriously be pissed about the same thing every time? It's just a ball." He answered to you. Clearly tired of your constant shouting at the basketball team when a ball would go the wrong way.
"And it's just balls between your legs, and they can just as easily deflate." You sassed back. To Billy, it was almost comical to watch. You with the tough guy act, puffing up your chest to a dude way taller than you with colorful pompoms in each hand on your hips.
"What a bitch..." Tommy huffed again.
"Oh get over it." Billy snapped. "What's captain pompoms gonna do?" He laughed at his own statement. Like said before he found the whole conversation comical-
WHAM!
A basketball went flying right into Billy Hargroves head. He snapped his head around to see the who had the nerve to hit him. His eyes met with captain pompoms. The two had a stare off. That's what it felt like for the rest of practice. The two practically eyeing each other the entire time.
After that stunt was over, after constant staring at one another, Billy had only one reaction in mind. A big one.
The next day followed. Billy knew where he could cut you off and corner you, in-between Mr. Johnson's chemistry class and Mrs. Shoffer's English literature class. It happened fast no one could react to it, actually you doubt anyone saw it happen. What you thought was just another normal day of school turned out to be more than that. A harsh hold took your arm, taking you away from the crowd into the more secluded part of the hall. Where you came face to face with a fuming Billy. His jaw was clenched and eyes held anger.
"What, you think you're real funny for the shit you pulled yesterday?" He interrogated. "Try it again see what fuckin happens..." His threats did not stop. Well his empty threats. As much as you are terrified of what he could do, you knew he'd never act on them. Your brave front was standing strong. Taking in every threat, comment, and remark he could throw at you. To get a reaction, if you were a guy you would have answered with your fists at his first remark. But you are not. You are you. You knew the exact thing that would make him even more angry.
" You are nothing but scuff on the gym floor, and that's all you will be."
Billy did not like that one bit. Who does this bitch think she is? His fist rose into the air, readying to strike. The force came down, you felt the air brush past your face, to only make contact with a metal locker. The sound ricocheted through the hall.
You open up your eyes. Now, again, staring at him. Anger was not held in his eyes anymore. If was fear and sadness, to you it was peculiar expression to see on his face. The actions that just happened finally caught up to you, you inhale deeply not knowing you stopped breathing. Everything caught up to you.
SLAP! Your hand came down, striking Billy Hargrove in the face. Hard enough to leave a mark. Not knowing that one had just been healed from another hand. "What the hell is your problem?" You yelled, agitated. "God, you fuckin creep." You make your way back to your class leaving Billy stunned. He didn't know what to do. He has never had someone react to him like that before. It intrigued him. He had an interest in you now.
After that encounter Billy made it his mission yo agitate you as much as possible. I mean, how else are you supposed to show someone you like them. From poking you with a pencil in class, purposefully missing the hoop so the ball bounces into your direction, anything at all just so you could look at him. He was succeeding and he was royally pissing you off. Until on fateful autumn day, everyone had gone home for the day. Except for the extracurriculars that took place after school. Two of those being basketball and cheer practice. Just as the practices were about to start, Billy took notice that you weren't with the cheer team. Which he thought was odd, but instead he chose to go smoke a cigarette before practice. He made his way to the small alley like way that was outside the gym that lead to the track field. And the sight before him made him stop in his tracks. there you stood cheer practice outfit and all with a lit cigarette hanging from your lip.
"I thought cheerleaders didn't smoke?" Billy joked to you, giving you his famous smirk.
"And I thought shit stayed in toilets, but I guess I was wrong since you're here." You said taking a huff of your cig.
"Damn, always ready with a comeback are you?" Billy said, lighting his cigarette.
"Why are you messing with me Hargrove?"
"Ouch, last name basis now sweets?"
"Shut up." You won't deny it, that dumb nickname that he started calling you grew on you. "Is this because of me smacking you?"
"No."
"Was it me hitting you with a basketball?"
"No." He said blankly again.
"Then what is it?"
Billy took a huff of his cigarette then looked you in your eyes. No hate or anger, something you can only describe as adoration.
"I find you interesting." Was his only answer.
"What?" you were confused by this answer. What was so interesting about you that made Billy intrigued. " Your like curious about me or something?"
"Exactly."
"You know curiosity killed the cat, Hargrove." You sassed.
"And satisfaction brought it back, and I am not satisfied yet so get used to me sweets." He said taking his cig a stomping it out onto the ground walking away.
You grumbled at his response, inhaling the last of your cigarette with blushing cheeks. Stomping out your cigarette then making your way into practice. 'Why does this asswipe make me blush'.
...........................................................................
Weeks of this teasing have gone by. Everyday Billy would find a new way to make you mad, blush, or embarrassed to get a reaction out of you. He claimed "It's because you so cute." Which made you blush even more. Gosh, you couldn't stand half of the guys at this school. Why was Billy the only one making you feel this way?
Truth be told, Billy had seen you around way before he had met you. How you walk down the hall with your head held high, looking away in disgust at the "popular" kids, over all not conforming to what a cheerleader is by Hawkins view point. You fought, yelled, got in people faces. Billy love all of it, it made him excited. Excited to talk to you and ask you questions, even ones you deem are stupid. All he wanted to do was to be around you. Damn, he loved it in a way.
Practice had ended for the day leading off into the weekend. A light rain pour had come down, everyone else had a ride to get them home. Everyone except you, well you did but he was running very late. Billy made his way outside to find you standing in the walk way waiting to be picked up. Cigarette hanging from your mouth.
"What are you doing here?" Billy asked.
"Waiting." You simply put.
"Do you want a ride?" He asked.
"No, I have a ride." You said. "But he's running late."
"What your boyfriend?" Billy said, the words had jealousy behind them.
"No." You sighed. "My brother you dipshit."
"oh..." He sighed. A silence fell between you two. Not uncomfortable, but nice enough for you two to be around each other. But Billy had something building in his stomach, a nervous feeling. He hated it. He needed to tell you something.
"Hey." He called to you, you turn your head to face him. "I wanted to say I'm sorry for what happened."
"What?" You were confused by what he just said.
"I said I'm sorry, did you not hear me?" Billy said, He turned his body to face you. "I said I'm sorry." You just stood there silent. Still taking in the fact he is saying sorry. "I'm sorry that I almost punched you into a locker. I realized I was acting like someone I didn't want to be, and you calling me on my shit. It made me look at you differently. I noticed more about you. How you always make sure the other cheerleaders are okay, how you genuinely care about the people you have around you, and you don't take any shit. And- shit I'm bad at this." He's now embarrassed by everything he just said. Heat rises to his cheeks and ears.
You step toward him, placing your hand on his arm. "I thought you were doing pretty well." You smiled, comforting him in a way. He just looked at you. You never smiled at him directly but now that your smile was intended for him. 'damn' He wants you to smile at him all the time.
"Do you want to go on a date?" He asked straight out. You were shocked by his forwardness, but not entirely surprised.
"You want to go on a date with me?"
"Hell yeah, why wouldn't I?" He made it seem like you were speaking a different language. "Listen one date is all I ask, her if you still think I'm a piece of shit I'll stop everything that I'm doing."
Your smile grew even wider. "I would love to go on a date with you Billy."
"Dang, back on first name basis already? Looks like I'm getting a second date already." He joked to you, in turn caused you to laugh.
For the remainder of your time you and Billy talked till you had been picked up. You both talked about anything and everything. It was pure bliss, you loved every second of it. You both were abruptly interrupted by the honking of your brothers car.mYou said your goodbyes to make your way to the car. The smile that held your face did not drop. I didn't drop on Billy's either, when getting home Max found it incredibly disturbing to see her step brother so giddy.
That following night Billy arrived to your house to take you on your promised date. Which one date turned into another and another and another. Till it reached throughout the whole school that Billy Hargrove and the cheer captain were finally official. With many guys questioning Billy as to why he picked you out of everyone, to which he said if they insulted you again he had no problem with dealing with them himself. Girls just snuffed their noses up to you since you now made Billy officially off the market. Not like you cared, he's your boyfriend now and you have him all to yourself. So you could say everything did work out in the end. You and Billy have each other.
"So I guess we have Tommy to thank since he is the reason we met?" You joked.
"Hell no, I would have went after you even if you didn't hit me with that basket ball." He smirk.
"Jeez, you are something Billy." You smiled, leaning into him to seal your lips in a kiss. Yeah, nothing could beat this.
