things about the sizzy proposal that just make sense (read: make me absolutely feral):

the fact that they have only been solidly together for like two (2) years at this point, and yet because of the trials that they went through just to be together, it was enough to prove (i'm looking at izzy here especially) that this love was something worth fighting the rest of their lives for. just let that sink in.. clace and malec have each been together for around 5 years at this point. yeah, sizzy got together in tmi, but they didn't dtr til the end, and then immediately afterward they were pulled apart and slammed back together and spent time disentangling themselves before they finally got together again almost 2.5 years after edom (!!), only for grief to come barreling out of left field. basically, what i'm saying is.. they didn't have the chance to grow and develop over the years the way their friends did. and the fact that simon asked izzy to marry him, and the fact that she said YES, in spite of that??? just shows how solid and true and deserving their love is

they way simon proposed on the brooklyn bridge--the first bridge built to cross the east river between brooklyn and manhattan. i've always seen the two boroughs as very representative of the two different worlds at play in tmi (i.e. simon's mundane life and izzy's shadowhunter one), and the beauty of sizzy, is that they are like quintessential examples of the lives each belongs to at the beginning of the series. and as they get to know each other and grow together and begin to care more and more about the other's world, it creates this metaphorical bridge that stands as a perfect acknowledgement of two people meeting each other in the middle. AND AND AND the bk bridge was the first bridge between the two. and sizzy was technically the first to get engaged of the three couples in tmi that spanned the east river. AND AND AND when you think of malec being centered in greenpoint and clace on the upper east side it's like.. idk it just feels so right for this question to be asked and answered between the two. (i feel like this point alone could go on forever so i will move on)

they were literally fighting demons when simon impulsively asks her to marry him. like 'fuck it there's no one else for me i need you in my life forever and there's no use waiting to see what could happen between now and the future because the future isn't guaranteed and clearly we could die at any moment i mean how many times have we been surrounded by demons and shadowhunter lives are so short and you are everything to me. please marry me. please stay with me for as long as we have.' [insert op fainting]. and it just shows that what izzy values and finds important, the purpose of her life, is exactly what simon loves about her. and this has always been clear. everything izzy is. everything she lives and breathes for.. simon wants to breathe that air too just because it means something to isabelle. it's like him telling her her rune and battle scars are beautiful and a part of her he would never change. like he doesn't want anything from her except for her to be isabelle.

when you dislike the MC of a good series AKA Who Will Die in The Wicked Powers

damn, being petty enough to flip off the MC x canon ship in my (favorite) fandom is really kicking me in the ass--

yeah, basically I can't touch half the TSC stuff on Tumblr bc I'm so anti-Clace...(meanwhile I love literally every other character that's been in every Shadowhunter series)...& they're probably gonna have a wedding + kids in the next books (assuming Jace isn't killed)...

The Wicked Powers is most definitely gonna have the Princes of Hell as the main villains. I feel like Luke, Gwyn, or Izzy will die, since the younger Shadowhunters are supposed to be central & well...look at the couples who will be alive/extant by TWP:

Jace already died once. Clary had dreams about dying, but those were shown to be visions of Thule. Based on canon events, I think they're Clare's favorite ship. SAFE.

Magnus almost gave himself to Asmodeus in CoHF. Alec almost-ish died saving Magnus in The Eldest Curses. Also, Alec almost died thanks to that poison demon in TMI (the one Magnus saved him from). Malec might end up forced to rule some region of Hell (reason unknown but I think it'll have to do with them beating/destroying Asmodeus). I feel like past events foreshadow Magnus dealing with the unfortunate sides of being a warlock. But he won't die--the "killing your gays" trope might actually save he & Alec.

Simon nearly died when the vampires attacked him (when he was a mundane), then when Valentine bled him pre-Daylighter (then Jace's blood saved him). He "sacrificed" himself to Asmodeus CoHF, in the form of his vampire immortality + memories (which he basically got back later on). Izzy...she's been through a lot psychologically & about as much as I think most Shadowhunters would physically. She lost Max & her dad. But she's a badass (I'm not faulting her for it, either). So I don't think she's safe.

Julian & Emma both lost their parents in horrible ways. Their whole series was about the parabatai curse (which, to me, was conveniently not mentioned in chronologically earlier series...probably because it wasn't invented til TDA was written, lol). They're kinda written to be the leaders of Livvy's Watch. SAFE.

Kit has his whole faerie power reveal shit to explore & he + Ty are some of the major characters in TWP. I'm pretty sure they'll spend the series healing their relationship. SAFE.

Kieran/Cristina/Mark will survive because 1) Kieran as the Unseelie King is an important Shadowhunter ally, 2) they're poly rep in YA, which is rare, and 3) killing one of them off would leave the others to mourn in such a weird way. SAFE.

I love Dru Blackthorn. She's one of the main of TWP, so I think she'll survive, plus tbh I don't think any more Blackthorns will be killed. Ash will probably end up as the Seelie King or as Clace's adopted son, to "redeem" Sebastian in a narrative sense. Jaime's sort of a main for TWP as one of Dru's love interests. SAFE.

Diana & Gwyn aren't main characters (though I like their romance). Diana also is the ONLY transgender person in all the books (unless I missed something). I don't think she'll be killed off. Gwyn might be just because I see the Wild Hunt as an important group in TWP & he might die protecting Diana (narratively, this shows strengthened faerie-Shadowhunter relations, despite the Wild Hunt being unaffiliated with either Court).

Luke & Jocelyn deserve to be endgame, but I could see Luke being killed off as one of those "MC's loved one is killed so the MC goes & avenges them" type of things. I love Luke & Jocelyn as characters, though.

Tessa & Jem deserve to be endgame, arguably, more than any couple. They were the mains in their series, then Jem survived but was sort-of-"lost" when he became a Silent Brother. Then he miraculously became a (mortal) Shadowhunter again when he was burned by heavenly fire, he just left the Clave behind to hang with Tessa (good choice!). Tessa has a baby & she's gonna suffer enough when she outlives Jem. SAFE?

Don't you just love it when you read about Clace as side characters and they're just being a cute couple?

I've been reading TDA, The Tales from Shadowhunters Academy and the extras and just enjoying seeing Clace from the other characters pov, just them being "Jace's expression softened looking Clary" or "Clary and Jace are weirdly good together" etc, "Jace sleeping on Clary's lap" or "I've never seen anyone else in love like them (....)" or "Jace and Clary can always be persuaded to go together" or when Jace says "where Clary go I go" in TFTSA

I'm paraphrasing obviously cuz i can't remember the exact quotes but yeah 💖💖💖

And I've also noticed how they're actually quite a playful couple--outside of their own books, cuz when we're reading from Clary's and Jace's perspectives, they seem quite serious sometimes since we're reading their thoughts basically

But i love how to other characters, they're portrayed as still acting like teens and early adults later on. I just--Cassandra Clare *chefs kiss*

Closest example i remember rn since I've just finished TFTSA is when Sizzy and Clace had this double date and Clace is just playing footsie under the table (and Jace may have accidentally rubbed his leg against Simon's) xDD

They're just---Clary and Jace are so cute individually and also in love i just 🥺🥺🥺💖

Like how they notice the way Clary touches Jace or how Jace looks at Clary, the way some people is even jealous of their relationship or think they would never fit with someone else the way Jace and Clary do, how in love they are, I'm all here for it!!! 🤩🤩💕

And yes! The playful part 😂😂 I agree, they seem a lot more serious with each other on their books. I love their dynamic in CoB because they got more into each other nerves in that book 😂 But I can't blame them, I mean, CoA and most of CoG was pure hell for them. CoFA wasn't much better. CoLS wasn't really Jace and CoHF (my favorite btw) they were a little more playful in that one. Point is, they were facing some serious problems in TMI, I understand Cassie didn't portrayed them more playful with each other on those books 🫠 So I'm so happy to see them in the other books, happy and confident in their relationship 🥰🥺 I mean, it’s also canon that they are playful with each other even during sexy times 😂😏🔥

And bestie, how they seem to be able to have sex on almost every place? Like on the floor in faerie? They can. On the floor in the greenhouse? They can. Let's not even start talking about caves in Hell. They have no chill 😂😂😂

Also Clary smacking Jace every now and then is so funny to me, they're that kind of couple 😂😭😂

Tsc fandommmm I need your help

For my English Language class on Friday I need to find some posts from the tsc fandom on here that people outside of the fandom would not understand

So basically I need posts that contain specific words or bits of language that non-tsc fans wouldn't know the meaning of, so stuff like:

Ship names (clace, herondaisy etc)

Acronyms of book names (tsc, tmi etc)

Words like gracelet, stele, the Clave, downworlder etc

Anything else you can think of tbh

I just need posts that have these words and that if you didn't know the terminology you would not understand. Don't worry about swearing or anything my teacher literally does not care I just need posts that will confuse him 😂

I would reaaaally appreciate help with this cause tumblr's search system is shit and I'm for some reason struggling to think of posts on my own (believe it or not this does actually relate to my class lol)

The thing is that even if Magnus hadn't aged much mentally, he still has vastly more experience, power and emotional independence than Alec. He's dealt with heartbreak, death, failed relationships and the likes.

I think in Twilight it's the same. Humans stop aging mentally as well as physically when they get turned into vampires. So mentally Edward is 17. But. He has the life experience of a century old man. He's been to university several times, has interacted with humans for a century, has analyzed and studied human behavior for decades.

I've watched some YT videos where a therapist analyzes all the ways in which Edward is toxic and subtly manipulates Bella. That can happen with any 17yo, but the fact that Bella is convinced that she's dating an experienced man, with so much more knowledge, social and financial power than her greatly skews her perception of him: when the power imbalance is so vast, it's easy to assume that your partner simply must be right at all times, and you're just the whiny, inexperienced teenager who doesn't know any better.

It's easy then to let them walk all over you, keep secrets from you, accept miscommunication, even accept their tantrums and moods (aka Magnus pushing Alec to come out, and Alec thinking he was right to do so).

I don't particularly care for the legality of Malec. As I said, Magnus should have stayed away from an 18yo Alec as well. A number does not magically turn you into an adult, mentally.

And I honestly don't expect much from the Immoral Instruments anyway 😂

I have issues with the fact that they started flirting/sort of dating when Alec was 17, which makes the whole relationship predatory aka adds insult to injury, and as I mentioned it it's also yet another case of a straight author promoting queerphobic stereotypes. That's my main gripe with Clare: she promotes queerphobic and racist stereotypes for the sake of Sexy, Barely Legal Relationship *wink wink* Aren't they hot? Isn't Alec such a blushing maiden? And Magnus such an experienced scoundrel? I am a great ally!

I would have rather seen Malec get together in TDA, when Alec finally feels like a complete person on his own (he's still so young, but at least he has a personality now, and some social power and emotional independence)

Instead we get an insecure teenager dating a 400yo, powerful man, who gets so jealous he makes biphobic comments and tries to take away Magnus's immortality (which in never addressed... they even have one immortal child and one mortal child now, yet there's no talks about death and grieving and the future)

The power imbalance is so obvious it gives me the creeps. TMI Alec was simply not ready for a relationship like this. He deserved better. He deserved to develop emotionally, and experience normal, balanced relationships and breakups without terribly high stakes/lives in the balance. Without such a vast power imbalance, which was bound to make him feel inadequate from the start.

But we know Clare has a fetish for barely legal or even illegal relationships (like how she ships brothers Damon and Stefan from TVD and said that the relationship being abusive "makes it better ;)", how she had the incest plotline for Clace, how she wrote a RonxGinny fanfic called The Mortal Instruments 🤢🤢🤢 (her Ginny is basically Clary), and how she had Sebastian lust over his sister and assault her).

Bruh it just frustrates me how popular she is, because I can SEE the way she influences teenagers. The stuff her fans say online about queer characters and "forbidden" relationships is just... 🤮

Characters older than 100 please stay away form young adults. Like, I'm 20 and I can't even imagine lusting after a 17 or 18 yo and want to date them. Actually, characters older than 25 please stay away from teenagers 😂

I keep imagining Edward and Magnus looking all of their 107 and 400 years of age, lusting over and kissing their teenage partners and I just 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

It so sus that they couldn't find a different, older partner, and instead decide to mingle with inexperienced, easily manipulated teenagers 🤔 Really makes me think.

Magnus also kisses an intoxicated, minor Will in TID, which really doesn't help make him look LESS predatory 🤦🏽‍♀️ it's like Clare is incapable of thinking beyond "hot boys titillating age gap must kiss" and who cares about the message she sends to readers.

Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to rant.

Emotional independence is a big factor. If we look at Alec in TMI, he’s emotionally entirely depended on the people around him. In TDA, he’s not. He’s found his footing and is sure of himself. He’s also written on more equal ground with the others.

“When the power imbalance is so vast, it's easy to assume that your partner simply must be right at all times, and you're just the whiny, inexperienced teenager who doesn't know any better.” All of this just screams Magnus and Alec’s early relationship. It also reflects the narrative in the books. Alec is seriously written as more whiny and immature and toxic whereas Magnus, who has seen it all and felt all the pain there is to feel, is supposedly the mature one.

Not that this mature man ever considers that Alec was being manipulated by a woman Magnus knows is deceitful. Not that Alec is still young and inexperienced and his actions reflect that. Not that Magnus’ own behavior could’ve somehow contributed to that. Not that they have no reason to be together because they have absolutely nothing in common. As to emotional security, they are worlds away from each other.

It’s also questionable that if Alec’s true intentions were to learn more about Magnus, not to take his immortality like Clare said once about the topic, she had a pretty weird way of writing that, meaning not at all.

Clare is also pretty wishy-washy about the whole immortality aspect. Magnus and Alec don’t have honest conversations, and everything is capped by either of them saying “this is how it’s going to go, and it’s alright just because.” Clare argues that Magnus could also die at any moment and leave Alec alone, but like, you’re not going to ever even write that so is that really an argument here.

I really would’ve liked the idea that Alec had someone else for a while. To mature with someone closer to him mentally, learn and grow and become more sure and complete. But there’s only ever one true love (except for Tessa), and Alec and Magnus where given a happy family and marriage without truly ever resolving the underlying issues in their relationship.

It’s like Clare did that to compensate the fact that she didn’t write them much at all in TMI. Also, having to wait for century or centuries to find your soulmate isn’t really that romantic concept. Clare isn’t doing any favors for Magnus’ character by writing him directing his flirtatious behavior toward minors. That kiss with Will, like why.

Legality of Magnus and Alec’s relationship seems like a side note compared to all the points you wrote here. Sure, they are legal if Alec is 18 years old, great, but what about all these underlying issues the author does absolutely nothing in order to even acknowledge their existence in her writing.

Will: I don't like Will, not for any particular reason, I just... Don't. Yeah, I like him more as a parent even though he's not a very good one.

Jace: Ohmigosh. Yes. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Jace, simply because he was the first character to make me laugh, and was the reason I even READ TDA. But I don't like him. That comment was weird, and he's ridiculously overated/overused. As with every TMI character. Except, ironically, the two who don't have their own series. (Though, I don't really like Sizzy, but I like them 100 times better than Clace and Malec combined.)

Julian: Nope. Absolutely not. Cannot stand him. Also, the way people say he's the best love interest simply because he got laid in the first book is disturbing and doesn't make him better in any sense. (I also couldn't stand Emma)

Anna: I don't like Anna either. The way she treats women is vile, but I will say that when she told Ariadne to stop coming to her for a relationship after she specifically told her not to, and Ariadne ignored it, was wrong on Ariadne's part. But yeah, I don't like her either.

Mathew: I'm assuming this is the character I like? 👀 Well, I did like Mathew. Emphasis on the did. My opinions on him and Alastair have changed drastically over the past few days. I still don't like Alastair stans putting literally every other character who isn't Alastair down, it's annoying and I can't stand it. But Mathew has become irritating to me. I think it's mainly because of the way this fandom puts him on a pedestal and puts James down because of it. But I also hate the way he went "lmao I'mma take yo wife, only leave you a note and we bouta go to Paris for two weeks see ya 😝".

I don't really like Diana because of that line and how inconsiderate she was towards the fifteen year old who lost everything he ever knew and found out his whole life was a lie, and saw his parent get ripped apart in front of him, keeping in mind how sympathetic she was to the Blackthorns when something like this happened to them- but please keep in mind that I don't like any TDA character who's not Kit. My opinions on her will probably change if I reread TDA, but every character who made a comment towards Kit that is or could be interpreted as negative is on my hit list. Sorry 😂

I have something to admit

I don’t think anybody not on Tumblr is gonna understand (has to do w/comfort characters) so here we go.

Basically, in middle school, I discovered my depression & had toxic relationships (unrequited crushes, them receiving) with some people. Then I went to HS @ 12. I was a fucking mess who either cried or had an angry fit every day until junior year. For some reason, there were days where I’d cry myself to sleep at home and dream of Jace Herondale, a fictional character. Nothing explicit, just pure fluff. Us fighting off monsters while flirting. Us walking around, holding hands. So I’d wake up happy.

Now I’m at a place where my mental illness is sort of at a standstill and I have multiple (4, maybe 5) conditions to seek treatment for. I haven’t had a happy Jace dream since maybe junior year of uni. Tbh, I haven’t had a happy dream w/o some kind of anxiety- or irritation-inducing thing in it since then. Anyway, it’s gotten to the point where 1) I have a shit ton of free time to write so I’m really trying to get good/confident enough to write my own novel, 2) if I don’t write I fall victim to my narcolepsy which fucks w/my overall sleep schedule, 3) Jace is a comfort character. #3 sucks because I loved the 1st book series but I’m not super interested in the sequels (same way that I feel about Percy Jackson shhh), every time I see Clace content (which is canon & shoved into anything he is mentioned in) I get a little sad, and I SIGH when I think about the movie that probably spawned a great adaptation series in an alternate universe 😭 yeah so, I feel dumb, not to mention lonely & completely unlovable (but that last part is a whole other thing).

I guess I’m gonna end this by thanking you all (especially my mutuals who I spam) for putting up w/me. If you’re part of the TMI/TSC fandom and you don’t mind playing the Jace to my salty lil assassin half-fey OC Jasmine…HMU.

but i like oversharing !! so here it's the long version of the ranking lmao 😆

i have a huge problem with tsc main couples, usually because the plot is always some version of "forbidden love" and because it feels like cc is pushing them down my throat w/ the amount of scenes she writes for them.

much like you, jessa and kitty are the only main pairings i enjoy reading about - but i'm lowkey afraid of how different main-couple kitty will be from side-couple kitty (imo cc doesn't know how to write main couples).

1) kitty: this is using their tda dynamic, since we have no idea how they'll be in twp. they were my otp before i got to know thomastair, and i totally agree with everyone who says that they carried tda on their backs.

2) jessa: modern day jessa is probably my biggest comfort ship in tsc - all i need to do is think about them and their children in devon and i'm already smiling. i do have a few issues with tid!jessa: the way i read it, tessa emotionally cheated on jem more than once during their engagement - though i feel like that was cc not being able to not write about will for 5 pages. the cave scene is a big no also affected them, since idk how u can have sex with someone else hours after your fiancee just died. so, even tho i like jessa, they're very far from my number 1 spot - mainly bc of tid!jessa, modern jessa is flawless and they have my whole world 💁🏽‍♀️

now let's get into the other 4 couples, which i classify as boring/annoying.

3) jordelia: i know it seems like i hate jordelia, but i don't : ) they just are the most boring pairing in tlh for me. also, i'm very, very petty and i feel jealous of the amount of scenes jordelia gets in comparison to thomastair, what makes me feel robbed 👁️👄👁️

4) blackstairs: they were okay in the first book, there was the right amount of angst and yearning for me. but after los, everything went down. it was basically like this "oh julian, we can't be together because there's a curse and our entire family die because of it!" "no, emma! i could never risk my siblings' well being! they're my priority!" "you need to stay away from each other!" "yes!" and then they proceeded to have sex. not to mention how blackstairs became emma's entire character and pretty much killed what could've been a very cool main character for me.

5) wessa: they're probably my least favorite pairing, but clace is a whole new set of messed up and that's the only reason why they won't be on last... wessa annoys me more than any other couple. they're cliche, boring and the only memorable scene they have is the cave one, and it's memorable for wrong reasons.

6) clace: to be honest, i don't even remember much of clace and they don't annoy me as much as they did... 5 years ago? but i still remember how i stopped reading tmi on my first try because i absolutely despised them... and, as i said before, they really are very messed up. i saw the "i should punch the boys who want to do to you what i want to do with you" quote today, what's always a good reminder of how tmi books were and why i chose to forget everything non-simon that happened in them.

ps: tho i believe jace/clace are worst than will/wessa, i'm more into the period series, what means that i get reminded more of why i don't like will and wessa, which makes me get more annoyed with them than with jace and clace. does that makes sense?

Warning: THIS IS AN ANTI-CLARY AND JACE SPOILER RANT because I need an avenue to let out some of the steam I've been holding off since starting City of Fallen Angels. So PLEASE SKIP AHEAD because I don't want to burden you all with my reading woes.

This thing centers on the beginning of Chapter 9: From Fire Unto Fire and a little bit of Chapter 8. About eight pages of bad, bad romance set me off.

To start,

So, what's been happening to Clary and Jace thus far?

This book introduced them now as an official couple, picking up from the end of TMI Book 3: City of Glass. I don't remember their every scene since then to the point in Chapter 9 where I stopped, but basically, they're having relationship issues early on. They're less than two months into their relationship, and the drama is too frickin much.

Jace has these weird dreams about murdering Clary and waking up guilty about his subconscious thoughts, so he goes angsting about it and avoiding her, snapping at her, being a total dick, and still question why people think they are on the brink of a break-up.

So, Jace goes with Simon in the next few scenes, in his plight to get away from her as far as possible, yet still be somehow close by being around Clary's best friend to "protect" him, so his distant behavior will be reasonable and forgivable. Yeah, make that make sense. 🙄 But of course, one way or another, they're going to have to get to the confrontation part (that I still wish had been equivalent to an actual break-up), and so that's when Chapter 8 & 9 enters.

Chapter 8: Walk in Darkness pp. 185-186

Almost instantly, the light went out of them, and the remaining color drained out of his face. "I thought --- Simon said you weren't coming." ¹

[...] "So you only came because you thought I wouldn't be here? [...] Were you ever planning on talking to me again? [...] If you're going to break it off, the least you could do is tell me, not just stop talking to me and leave me to figure it out on my own."

"Why does everyone keep goddamn asking me if I'm going to break up with you? [...]²

First, what an asshole?!

[1] So Jace finally in-your-face's Clary and confirms that he has been keeping his distance like Clary has the plague. He then has the audacity to [2] be annoyed for being questioned on his intentions of keeping the relationship that he has been actively evading for days!

I get that Jace sucks in romantic relationships and has been fucked up by his daddy-issues, but he has the Lightwoods. Heck, Alec is his parabatai. He sees working relationships, so he has to have known that you don't just stop talking to people close to you and have them not question the behavior, whether you're trying to pull away from them or not. Otherwise, then Jace is dumb for all that he's marketed as the "best" Shadowhunter in his age. Screw that.

“You talked to Simon about us?" Clary shook her head. "Why? Why aren't you talking to me?"

"Because I can't talk to you," Jace said. "I can't talk to you, I can't be with you, I can't even look at you."³

[3] Way to make a girl feel special, Jace. Oh, no, yeah. He's trying to do the opposite and push her away with some teenage boy angst that doesn't make any sense. Like, who says that, though, aside from dramatic love interests that can't make a better excuse for going emo?

That line IS TOO DRAMATIC that it hurts, ugh. 🤮

Anyway, so Clary walks out after that. I don't sympathize with her, but I'd do the same. Who wouldn't? Unless you freeze in the ridiculousness of the situation, that is, which is also likely.

Chapter 9: From Fire Unto Fire pp. 190-195

Now, here's the real shit. I want to quote this entire six-page scene back to Cassie and scream at her.

Clary reached the door and burst out into the rain-drenched evening air. [...] and was about to race across the street against the light when a hand caught her arm and spun her around.

It was Jace. [...] "Clary, didn't you hear me calling you?"

"Let go of me." Her voice shook.

"No. Not until you talk to me."⁴

[4] DUDE, what even happened to your I CAN'T TALK TO YOU, I CAN'T EVEN LOOK AT YOU speech, huh? Be consistent for once, apart from your douchebag routine. Make up your mind, Jace.

Still holding her by the arm, he half-dragged her around the van and into a narrow alley that bordered the Alto Bar. ⁵

[5] Man, I love a bit of rough loving in my literature, but I'm so pissed at you, Jace, don't even. Lay the hell off.

"I was going to tell you that I was trying to help out Simon. [...]

"And you couldn't tell me? Couldn't text me a single line letting me know where you were?"⁶ [...]

[...]

"I think," he said slowly, "that I thought that the closest thing to being with you was being with Simon. Watching out for him. I had some stupid idea that you'd realize I was doing it for you and forgive me---"⁷

[6] Addressing the lack of communication, that's a great path to follow. These two need to talk so bad. [7] But this line? Sucks Balls. You could be with her, Jacey, and save all the readers your drama if you only pull your head out of your ass and try to communicate. It's like you're allergic to it.

She took a step back, blindly, and nearly tripped over an abandoned speaker. Her bag slid to the ground as she put her hand out to right herself, but Jace was already there. He moved forward to catch her, and kept moving until her back hit the alley wall, and his arms were around her, and he was kissing her frantically.⁸

[8] Not only is this achingly cheesy, but it's also totally not the way they should be going off about their situation. They were already talking -arguing, yes, but they're still using words to reach out, and their relationship absolutely cannot be healthy without them. Thus far, they have spoken so less in comparison with the times they've spent canoodling. They're not solving anything by having drama on one second and getting it on with dramatic kissing on the next.

I don't care what Clary says about being so lost in love with Jace. He's treating her like shit. The least he can do is give her answers that she has the right to demand from him. Kissing is not an answer. But, well, maybe to Clary, it is because the next parts from page 192 to 194 are spent on softcore porn in a dark alley under the frickin rain. I bet that's a very romantic setting in their minds, huh.

And now this part:

It was nerve-wracking. She could feel the feverish heat that came off him; her hands were still on his shoulders, but it wasn't enough. She wanted him wrapped around her, holding her tight. "W-why," she breathed. "can't you talk to me? Why can't you look at me?"

He ducked his head down to look into her face. His eyes, surrounded by lashes darkened with rainwater, were impossibly gold.

"Because I love you."⁹

[9] Is that supposed to make me tingle? SET ME ON FIRE, but that is the lousiest I love you in books that I have ever read. AND IT'S THE ONLY ONE THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE, at all!

Shut up with this, can you please. It's not romantic at all. It's a dumb excuse and an even dumber love from the two dumbest people in this whole frickin series. Oh my god.

Clary, realistically, will frown at this answer. She will pull the hell away and spat him in the face with how demeaning his love is if it can make her sick to the stomach with thinking he has already gone bored and is only cooking the perfect way to cut off their connection. He hasn't given her a sound reason, only desperate declarations of love like he's trying to convince them both that it's true. And it doesn't make sense how she's still plastered around him in the cold, trying to convince the readers that every word from Jace has deeper meanings that she understands no matter how gibberish they are. I'm not buying that, okay? Stop selling your larger-than-life connection bullshit because that isn't real.

You've only been together for two months, okay? The strongest you can feel for each other is lust. And it's showing.

His hands slid down to her waist and he kissed her, long and lingering, making her shudder.

She pulled away, "That doesn't make any sense."

"Neither does this," he said, "but I don't care. I'm sick of trying to pretend I can live without you. Don't you understand that? Can't you see it's killing me?"¹⁰

She stared at him. She could see that he meant what he said [...] Her desire for answers battled the more primal part of her brain, and lost. "Kiss me then,"¹¹

[10] NOBODY THREATENED YOU UNDER BLADE TO DO THAT BULLSHIT, so shut the hell up with the whining. [11] and Clary, I am so disappointed. You've both just drained me, and I'm dry inside like a raisin.

The next paragraphs describe their very erotic kissing against the wall. Jace, propping her up and her legs around his waist bull crap. Seriously? Am I supposed to believe these two are, what sixteen?- up until Isabelle thankfully ruins their moment by kicking a garbage can that would look better with Jace and Clary in it tbh.

And the nastiest horseshit of all:

Clary looked at Jace. At any other time, they would have laughed together at Isabelle's moodiness, but there was no humor in his expression, and she knew immediately that whatever they had had between them ---whatever had blossomed out of his momentary lack of control--- it was gone now. [...]

"Jace---" she took a step toward him.

"Don't," he said, his voice very rough. "I can't."¹²

And then he was gone [...]

[12] No, I frickin CANNOT. His actions keep on contradicting his words, and he's fickle and can't decide which mood to settle, and it's so exhausting, honestly. He wasted a few pages for a cosmic, meaningless declaration of feelings. They're empty words. At this point, I believe the writing only strives to convince the readers that these characters care for each other but is shitty at showing it.

It's not love, because they say it is love.

I was already gaining hope for this book, and then one simple few-pages scene with clace squishes it, smearing the innards on my face.

Honestly, TALK OR TAKE A BREAK. This back and forth can't continue throughout the rest of the book or -heaven forbid- the rest of the series. Or at least, put these characters in the background if they really must drag on this problem, because I care not a lick.
