Bruce would probably have started this sugar daddy/baby relationship purely for sex before it devolves into companionship. He’d rather not have an emotional connection with you, at least not at first. He’d make it clear that your relationship is “strictly professional” and to make sure that you don’t “catch feelings” for him.

But he’s so lonely that he’s the one that ends up catching feelings for you. It’s just the way you take care of him after sex that got him. I say he’s a power bottom, only topping rarely, so when you clean him up after fucking the life out of him and just lay next to him for a while, petting his hair as he comes down from his previous high, it’s nice. It’s a type of comfort and touch that he hasn’t felt from another and he’s so blinded by the feeling that he doesn’t even notice he’s fallen for you until he’s hit the ground.

He’d deny it completely but soon he’d catch himself texting you for reasons other than sex. He’d invite you over for drinks maybe even dinner, and he’d feel genuinely glad when you accept, until he realizes that you’re getting paid so of course you would. The realization is a bit disheartening but he decides to make the most of what he’s paying for.

You start to notice it, how he starts inviting you over more for different reasons, becoming less emotionally closed off. You can’t deny that he’s rather attractive and it’s nice to see him open up to you at times it allows for better conversation. He loves it, he loves how your conversations are deeper now.

He starts to feel bad with how much he calls and texts you to come over because of his lonesomeness so he bumps up your pay even though you say that it’s fine. He hits a point where he wants to cut you off because of how much he finds himself caring and thinking about you. But he now thinks he can’t live without your touch. It’s scary when he finds himself thinking about you as his boyfriend and yet he loves it so much. He’s obviously afraid to tell you any of this and because of his prior statements about your relationship he decides not to for the time being. But even then his feelings continue to grow.

With that Rayman Lore drop, I now would like to share a theory about Bullfrog based off a convo I had with a friend on a discord server

So said friend suggested something that makes SO much sense it just feels. It feels canon idk why (SPOILERS FOR THE BTS CAPTAIN LASERHAWK VID/ CAPTAIN LASERHAWK TRAILER BELOW THE CUT)

So you guys know how Rayman was mentioned to be a refugee from another universe (Universe X). Well, if that universe happens to hold ALL the Rayman characters, consider this:

HI HELLO, I FELT BAD CONTINUING THE CONVO IN THE POST BUT OOOOOHHOO YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE FEELING UNWELL ABOUT TSUNA HOPE. I AM INSANE ABOUT HIM.

FIRST OF ALL, I checked the link you sent and oh my god SAME "The Truth Revealed" is an INSANE CHAPTER TO ME. Tbh Future arc is one of my favorite arcs in KHR all together. I don't think I ever recovered from Tsuna waking up in a fucking coffin. Like I think that irreversibly altered my brain chemistry I havent been the same. My brains been spinning since i saw that. To find out that TYL Tsuna planned it in the Truth Revealed??? Like WHO is TYL TSUNA. WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. Like you pointed out that Lal yelled out at Tsuna wasnt like that, but to find out he was?? oh my GOD. Like it makes me wonder how much stress TYL Tsuna was under or how he came to the point that he felt like this was the only solution they could pull off. I think there's an addition that Irie did say that Byakuran would've found a way to bring the younger gang to the future anyway must have absolutely added to TYL Tsuna's stress and desire to get his younger self ready before Byakuran decided it was time before he was. Like I need to know IS HE HAPPY LIKE YOU SAID. I HOPE THIS MAN FINDS PEACE GOD KNOWS HE DESERVES IT. This is more of a headcanon than any solidified proof, just a GUT feeling. But I have to feel as if TYL Tsuna's actions being so... like that had to do with TYL Reborn's death. We know that they're close and Rainbow arc shows us that Tsuna would lift the entire world on his back if it saved Reborn. I can't help but theorize the mental state TYL Tsuna was in, after losing Reborn. Seeing how..hotheaded Tsuna can get about Reborn in Rainbow Arc and how he willingly goes to the Inheritance Ceremony for Yamamoto.. I can see him conjuring a plan like this to fuck the shit out of Byakuran post Reborn death, or even just for the possibility of getting Reborn back. But this is just a headcanon again. Either way?? Im FOAMING at the mouth with you.

As for the rest of our discussion, first of all I lost my shit when you sent the manga panel of Reborn looking shocked but holy shit i didnt connect those dots that Reborn was ?? shocked?? that Tsuna was going along with it. And that its coming from a place of anger and vengeance from Tsuna, which isn't usual for him but fuck they attacked his family. As you mentioned, they crossed that firm line drawn in the sand and Tsuna was going for their throat this time bc how dare they? When, in Tsuna's eyes, Yamamoto was done NOTHING wrong to his attacker. As for Tsuna becoming Vongola Decimo and how he would've been shackled, this is actually something we discussed in our server as well. The conclusion I ended up coming with is that in the end it didn't matter to Tsuna. He was seeing red. He was furious. He was willing to sacrifice everything, even his own freedom from the Mafia to avenge Yamamoto. It's either that he was so blinded by rage that he didn't consider the consequences of his actions, or even worse he was willing to take up the mantle of Vongola Decimo if it meant catching the person who did this to Yamamoto. For Yamamoto's sake, he would be Vongola Decimo. AND THAT IDEA??? OOOHHHH. UGHHHH. THERES SO MUCH TO TSUNAS CHARACTER AND IT DRIVES ME MAD BC HE SEEMS SO SIMPLE AT FIRST LOOK. AND IM??? IM AAAAH YKNOW??

the future arc isn't personally my favorite, but i totally get the people for whom it is. the writing for it is really solid and really steps up from what we had so far, and i DO love so much that first part of the arc up to the end of the merone base raid.

you know, at times like this i wish i'd remember what my reaction was to it the first time i read it too, but my memory is shit lol. but i don't need to to agree it was so iconic and insane of amano to make tsuna appear in the future in a coffin. like not only it's the first thing we learn about the future, but also the first thing we learn about his future. that ten years later he's dead. absolute fucking power move from amano, like hello??

but also, while we're on the subject... this literally just came to me so idk if i'm going to be articulate about this lol, but i think there's something to be said about how the first thing we learn about tyl tsuna is that he's dead. and then he stays dead throughout the arc, mentioned and talked about, judged and defended, praised and blamed, but it all happens through other people. everything we learn about him, every choice (or lack thereof) and decision attributed to him, every glimpse into his personality and what kind of man he was, we learn all of it it through someone else's words. through someone else's eyes, and tho we're given no reason to doubt they're saying the truth, they can only be biased as they say it. like, amano could have made him appear through flashbacks, but she didn't. she gave him no physical appearance, no face, no voice. and then when she does do that (tho even then she still gives him no face), he only talks about his present self. has only words for him. and idk what is there to say about all that, but i know it's relevant to the themes of the future arc.

you're right! i tend to overlook that bit of information, but it is canon that either way, the present 10th gen would have found themselves in the future. so for tsuna to decide he'll be the one to make it happen and have control over it instead of byakuran, was of course the right choice to make. the safest one, both for them and their present selves. as well as the kindest one, because of course, tsuna didn't just bring them to the future to leave them to die in it, the way byakuran would have done. he came up with a plan to make sure they were ready to face the future like you said, and would be strong enough to see it through. and the plan was still harsh and painful and arguably cruel on them, but it still was kindness from tsuna at the same time. consideration for the situation he had no choice but to get them involved in. it was him taking responsibility for it and sparing them the worse of it as much as he could and as much as realistically possible. and maybe it made little difference, but it's still more than byakuran would have allowed them for sure, and it did play a non-negligible part in them not only surviving the future, but coming out on top of it.

you know... for some reason i've always thought tsuna was level-headed when he agreed to go along with the plan. like of course his hands were being forced as he was backed against a corner, facing a hopeless and desperate situation, but in my head he still had himself together somehow. sat and considered the pros and cons of the plan with a cool head, before deciding it was worth the gamble.

but like. knowing tsuna, it's much more likely he hadn't, you're right. that he was standing on the brink, and maybe had already fallen from it. i mean, yamamoto's dad got killed, his parents were unaccounted for, vongola's hq fell and vongola was hunted, namimori was invaded and every people there connected to him hunted too, forcing kyoko and haru to be on the run, with lambo and i-pin after them to keep them safe when they were just fifteen but still forced to take part in a literal war. tsuna had already lost so much by that point, while still being at risk of losing much more. and at the same time, he had already lost the worst thing he could lose, because of course, there's also reborn. reborn who also died, who also got killed when he's the one person who's always been by his side, who's always been his rock and anchor, who's always known how to give him strength again when his own failed him. and MY gut feeling headcanon is that reborn died not too long before tsuna put the plan in motion. maybe even died only just a couple of days before that, and that was the last straw, the deciding factor that made tsuna go along with the plan.

so like. maybe tsuna was heartbroken and crestfallen when he made that decision. maybe it was an entirely emotional one, one he made out of spite and vindictive feelings for byakuran like you said. out of fear he'll end up with nothing more left to lose, and out of his guilt for letting things come to that point and not being in a position--not having the power to make things right again. a decision he made out of his grief and the desperate hope he could get back everything he lost. the hope he could get reborn back. and okay, consider this, but independently of whether it was the right thing to do or of the chances of the plan to be successful, maybe he simply agreed to it too out of the certainty it's what present tsuna would have done too. that it's what he'd have wanted too, that he would have taken any chance that might bring reborn back to him. because it's reborn. oh i'm soo normal about this and their bond.

For Yamamoto's sake, he would be Vongola Decimo.

YOU CANT JUST SAY THAT TO ME LIKE I HAVENT THE SOFTEST SPOT FOR YAMS AND TSUNA. oh my god. oh my god??? for yamamoto's sake... for yamamoto. and i mean, i know tsuna would have done the exact same thing for any of his other guardians, but that amano chose to go along with yams instead of any other guardian... like again, i do very much believe tsuna would have reacted the same way were it anyone else, but at the same time i really do very much believe the fact it was yamamoto played a part in his anger and resolve to avenge him. i really can't explain it, but like. it's yamamoto, you know?

NO I KNOW!!!! tsuna is... he's so easy to overlook and deem unworthy of a second glance, but if you DO look back at him, and then really look at him, you can't stop and can't look away. and the longer you look, the more there is to look at. which is even more insane because at his core tsuna still is truly, really just some guy. he's just a complex character in very simple ways i guess??

anyway yeah, i need to LIE DOWN now, thanks.

"Turning Pages" - Limited Life Ethubs oneshot

696 words, oneshot, angsty/gen, SFW, based around/inspired by Session 2 from Etho's POV/ravine convo.

hi. wrote this real fast cuz i have feelings.

“So, why are you with TIES, then?”

Bdubs looked at Etho, as the pair quietly stole some of the unchecked seeds from the Bread Bridge. No one was around, and the thing had spanned so far there was no chance anyone would hear them out here.

“What do you mean?” Etho glanced over at Bdubs. “I mean, I'm with them but..”

“You are- you are with them.” Bdubs chuckled. “Tango, Skizz, Impulse...”

“Yeah, yeah- they're a good team. BEST was nice, Impulse has been good too, so...”

Bdubs huffed, annoyed by Etho's apparent obliviousness. “Yeah but-”

“What, are you jealous?” Etho said as he grinned under his mask.

“No-” Bdubs started quickly, “No I am not. I- I killed all of them before, remember?”

Etho paused for a moment, the thought not having crossed his mind like that. “Oh.”

“Yeah!” A laugh trailed from Bdubs as he more quickly moved to pull wheat from the dirt around them. “I thought-- I just wonderin', cuz you teamed up with them... I never killed you.”

While Etho had admittedly not thought about the fact all of TIES had been killed by Bdubs, he couldn't deny there was a pull there. They all had talked behind Bdubs' back. Etho hadn't been killed by him, but.. well, there was Double Life. Maybe not killed, but there was tension from that. There was jealousy shown. He'd enjoyed his time with Joel but Bdubs' bursting with infatuation for Impulse was hard for him to watch. Where was their playful back and forth? Why couldn't they be together despite their soulbonds? Why didn't Bdubs give that to him?

“Uhh... yeah, you didn't.” Etho spoke quietly, choosing to steal from a different side of the bridge. “But I- I... guess they were just nice, you know? They-”

“What, and I couldn't be nice?” Bdubs butted in, “You're- it's about all that talkin' you did with 'em. You know I'm not gonna drop that. They certainly weren't nice to me!”

An ache settled in Etho's chest. He did feel bad about that. “I know, I know-- I guess I just...” Etho sighed, stopping for a moment. “Bdubs, you know how Double Life went.”

Etho had to glance over at Bdubs as he stayed silent for a few moments too long.

“...Yeah.” He could hear Bdubs, faintly a few blocks away.

Etho stood up straight to face Bdubs fully. “We didn't.... we didn't get any time to.. to talk about um, Last Life.” He was trying so hard to keep his voice steady. “I- You just went off with Impulse and I didn't really talk to you at all, you know.”

He kept going, not giving Bdubs a chance to interrupt. “You died in Last Life- I barely got to see you after that. And then you run off with Impulse, like the happiest couple on the server.”

Bdubs turned to look at him, a mix of anger and upset clear on his face. “I- I didn't abandon you. I- you can't tell me that, I died for you!” His voice was quickly rising, “Do you want me to kill you? Do- D'you need me to kill you and really make it even? Huh? Cuz it sure sounds like you feel as if you've been hurt as bad as the rest of TIES.”

Etho's brows creased, looking down at Bdubs as he took some steps closer. He tried to ignore his heart beat, picking up as he heard the genuine hurt in Bdubs' voice.

“Come on, Etho..” Bdubs' voice wavered for a moment. “You.. you know that's not how it is. I- I know you aren't like them.”

Etho looked away, giving a sigh. “I... I donno. I can't- I think I just... need some time this season, to just.. team up without you.”

It wasn't what Bdubs' wanted to hear, but he couldn't bring himself to fight it.

“Fine.”

“You... got a nice thing going- with Cleo and Scar.” Etho added as he watched Bdubs start to head down the other side of the bridge. “I think... it's good you know- find a little family. Right?”

For a moment, Bdubs softened. “Yeah. Yeah, it's nice.”

HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS ON DISCORD ("That's The Point" discord anon here)

I saw a bunch of folks in the notes expressing some confusion about how you find servers in the first place, how it feels weird to interact, and I saw your addition about how its harder to teach than do, but I thought I might give it a try in case ppl find it helpful! (No pressure to post this or anything if you find it long or unnecessary)

I basically did not have any major internet friends until the last year or so. I first started really having a social media presence in 2013- so its not the LONGEST stretch but yeah, basically took me 7-8 years to start really making friends online. Part of this was just I was in school and had real life acquaintances, but I also was terribly awkward online. I made a lot of missteps! Personally though, I have found discord to actually be a much easier place to make actual friends than twitter or tumblr; the truth is that reblogging/commenting on social media is not usually going to make you friendships unless you make the leap from reblogging/commenting to 'convos in dms'

Discord makes this easier because inherently the main way to interact is by conversing in the first place.

If you want to find discords: you can search for fandom or interest related ones, or ask to join ones you hear about on tumblr. Disboard provides a good way to search and find servers based on your interest: https://disboard.org/search If you are in a discord and want to make friends: Talk to people. Conversation does take practice and I can't cover all the basics here; there are resources online for how to practice conversation, and a lot of the rules for real life interaction will transfer to online. Remember that people cannot read tone and that certain forms of humor require familiarity, so try to be polite and direct.

Compliment people's art or input, reply to people you agree with- focus on agreement over argument if you can. It's a REALLY good idea to learn to frame discussions in the "Yes, and" format because this lets you build off of other people's points instead of seeming like you are interrupting or disagreeing.

Be patient- conversations themselves do not make friendships. Your goal is not to lie or convince people to like you but rather to find people who are like you that you enjoy talking and spending time with. Hop in voice chat when people are there and don't force yourself to interact; you are allowed to just say 'hi' and listen, especially if there are multiple people chatting.

Don't force yourself to constantly interact, but try to improve the conversations you are in. Thank people for chatting with you! say good morning and good night. If you had a good convo, tell them 'I really enjoyed talking about this with you.' Moving to other discords: This is a tricky one because like the ones above there's not a magic way this happens; it is often organic. In many of the big servers I'll be in, sometimes people will mention that they have another server. If it is a server that has an interest you share, like pokemon, or comics, you could say "Oh cool, you're in a pokemon server? is it big?" or something else prompting them to share info or invite you.

Generally people who have servers that are open to new folks are happy to invite you and you don't need to prod. If it is a server more for them and close friends, they may not want to invite you, and that's ok.

I've been in servers that branched off from main servers because I made some friends who wanted to hang but didn't want to remain in the big server any more so they made their own server and invited me, and then that server also branched off. It happens!

DM Sliding (For Fun and Friendship) Again this is not something that has hard and fast rules, and some people are easier to interact with in DMs while others will prefer to chat in servers. Also! Not everyone you DM with is gonna keep up conversations. People are different!

One of my oldest discord friends I made because I started watching a show they recommended and popped in their dms to let them know, giving some reactions to the show (which I enjoyed) thus far. I asked them if they were ok with sharing my reactions with them, and they were delighted to basically experience a live reaction from me. This then prompted long convos to the point where now i feel comfortable just dropping random things I find in their DMs; I know their interests and they know mine, and we chat all the time.

In general, telling someone you watched/tried/read/ something they clearly like a lot is a really good way to start a convo on or off dms. If you are in a server where people like to chat about media, you could begin a convo there, then if the convo is going well, is mostly with one other person, and seems like it could continue, you can offer to move it into DMs to not clog the chat.

Other people i've befriended are often people who do something similar to a thing I do within the server; artists make friends with artists, fanfic writers with fanfic writers, etc. If you don't really DO anything this will be harder. I don't have much advice for that but basically try to see if you share hobbies with other people and chat about that if it's appropriate.

Sometimes the purpose of a DM is not to start a convo or a friendship specifically but just to express something that might not fit with the larger server.

Remember that not everyone you are friendly with is required to be your friend. The best way to make friends is to be friendly with a LOT of people and have different levels of interaction with them; if you are friendly with 10-20 people on a regular basis but only chat with one of them that is a good thing! It is normal to have a wider circle of people you interact with casually and only a few you interact with on a friendship basis.

Finally, be patient. Friendships take time, especially friendships online. The two people I am closest friends with on Discord I knew casually for YEARS before we started being DM buddies. Sometimes you will try to strike up friendships and they just won't click or they won't be available to hang online. But also! not everyone is on discord all the time and uses it to chat and hang. A friendship where you just say hi once in a while can still be an enjoyable thing <3

Agreed.

For me, a key factor in discord dms is how easy the person is to communicate with. If someone misuses words a lot or has sentence structure that's very hard to follow or if they often need me to rephrase something I've said, they're not relaxing to chat with. If we think radically differently, the same issue could arise. We need some shared interests and a similar level of interest in the conversation, but communication style and verbal skills are a big part of it for me.

im really rocking with cass on this one, im glad to see someone finally actually critiquing staff and not getting dogpiled for it

the lack of communication really is the biggest issue, its really unsettling for the server to basically go dark and to see tons of mods trading their terras for one offs, that gonna lead people to the worst possible conclusion. you guys could have just put in the slamm updates channel something like "hey were all doing finals rn so were not gonna be very active for a few days," that would have solved this whole issue

This is not my anon but this is exactly how I feel. I've made my own mistakes but that was never why they were in the convo. They saw how badly I was suffering and swiftly took the opportunity to kick me while I was down and that's just the truth. The quick pivot into easily transitioning the anti-blackness conversation into absolving themselves and all their friends from their mistakes & various acts of bigotry by discrediting my voice in a few decisive moves was legendary. The priority & focus of the conversation was no longer about the important issue and became an almost sadistic pursuit of my "downfall". It was fucking dirty and manipulative to the point where i almost have to admire it. And emphasized to me that empathy just isn't their strong point.

We all have bias including myself and that was clearly at play here. Some of the shit I saw said about me was simply not true or completely misrepresented and I was brushed off for pointing that out in the replies. And the fact that plenty of people believed it at face value with no proof whatsoever was acceptable to them and even people that saw what really went down with their own eyes but wanted to save their own reputation with these simblrs went along with it. They even chose to believe the word of a known racist over me because it fit their narrative. Once again the vague post + wave of hate from followers method was deployed, but this time I was already at my limit before it even began. I was degraded & talked over by several white people and essentially silenced and blamed for my own violent & bigoted harassment because i hurt people's feelings on simblr and was too "annoying". I was the subject of some pretty awful shit both here & IRL to the point where I was at one of the lowest points of my life and I was basically told to eat shit for asking for time and empathy. Even after apologizing and admitting what I had done wrong, they continued to pile on and beat the dead horse because the fact of the matter is they just want me gone and ostracized & have ever since I first slighted anyone in that friend group. Which solidifies to me that another one of my mistakes was to expect any of this on simblr to be based in actual ethics or a sense of morality.

For it to be about the racefaker & anti-blackness, I didn't see 1% of the anger and name-calling towards that being from them compared to what was thrown my way & it only exploded after I had apologized for that situation and that being was long gone from simblr and kicked from my server. And it was clearly because no one was angry enough at me for their liking. "We got a racefaker in the community yeah but oh no look, that negro uses kpop gifs and was too aggressive and bitchy towards us!" Shit. As much as my reaction to the situation was never about corpsetrait & all about my own feelings and situation I was going through, which was terribly wrong of me & I still apologize for, it was clearly a similar thought process with them. And many of the posts and actions I've seen have been purely performative when you consider the nonexistent (and even mocking) reaction to what happened to me compared to the people they liked. Whereas I've spent quite a bit of time defending & trying to see other people's perspectives when I simply should've never wasted my own time or mental energy. Trust i will never make that mistake again.

I took the opportunity to apologize further and delete the channel in my server because I've seen how it was a bad idea & how it negatively affected others and me as a person, and there's nothing like being at the bottom of the barrel to humble a dumb bitch like me. But y'all better not make the mistake of thinking you're better. I know exactly what kind of chats you got, as well as the anons & messages you send, and you ain't slick nor fooling anybody taking that moral high ground. Especially while saying some of the worst things about me out the other side of your mouth. The difference between us is that I can say I was wrong, and I've never seen y'all do that once this entire time. I'm going to work on myself, and I highly advise y'all to consider the same. And if you hate me, if I annoy you, you're just going to have to block me. Because I'm not going anywhere because of you. And if you got some vile bullshit to say, I'm blocking & ignoring you. Period.

i loovee love love analyses and essays and CONVERSATIONS about the life series, so coming across your blog has been a twist of the fate strings. then discovering you have a literal analyses tag oml... i actually clutched my chest and leaned back to breathe. i will be doing some heavy reading, hopefully. anyway, this is something i talked about in a convo a couple weeks back ^_^

I also find it funny how ren shot scar... didn't scar shoot ren in third life.. I love the ren vs scar and martyn vs grian thing. like,, the instinct is to go, oh, grian vs ren surely, but no! the dichotomy is so much more interesting the other way!

both ren and scar could be described with passion. they are both very passionate. ren is a bit ostentatious and loves the flaire and the display, but he does care about his people, he did love the people of dogwarts. impulse's betrayal did hurt.

and scar.... well scar is passionate in every other way. he loves the craft and the creative and doesnt fall short in any way there. in a sense, he also enjoys the delivery for its flaire, but it's for gain, its for the con, for the benefit. it benefits him and he will tap into charisma to achieve that. and with relations, well. he did love his people, and his 'people' was grian. people mean everything to him even if he doesn't want to make it seem that way. sure people know that he thrives off of interaction, but he lives off of it, it's not just a part of his game, it's a part of him. he keeps up the facade throughout third life, but we know how terribly isolation impacted him in last life.

so his people in third life was grian, and that was enough until the end. then it got tricky and confusing, and suddenly it seemed he may have gotten too attached, that maybe it was obvious he had gotten attached, and he regretted his next decision --- to betray grian.

and then martyn and grian, of course we have the contrast of knowledge. both of them have something to do with the divine and both were there in evo. watcher vs listener, or whatever they may be. both of them weren't the leaders of their supposed factions (scar was technically the forefront considering grian was there because of the deal, but they were equals in many other ways, unless you want to lean into the discussion that grian was the aggressor..., of sorts, of monopoly mountain, and he just used scar's reputation as a scapegoat. it's certainly a delicious outlook to chew on.)

both grian and martyn could've gone down very different paths if they'd chosen someone else. grian wouldve allied with someone else if not for the prank gone wrong. martyn wasn't decisive on ren till a few episodes in, he was still considering building a separate base on a mountaintop, he was this close to allying with jimmy, but jimmy already had scott. they had those paths in front of them, whereas scar was always going to end up in the desert, and ren was always going to end up in his enchanted fortress atop the hill.

but those stories would've played so different without grian, without martyn. scar mightve stayed alone if no one would've spared him their attention, especially considering he was yellow; ren would've... still established renchanting, of course, but the other contracts he had with etho and impulse and the like were nowhere like the one with martyn. dogwarts was born because of martyn's presence, and there's no doubt about it to me. he wouldn't have become the server's powerhouse, he would've instead ended up like the wet dog (aff) he always ends up as in other series, where he doesn't have martyn at his side. martyn was also indebted to ren, albeit not as strongly as grian to scar, considering he technically used ren's services before they were ready and had to repay him somehow. except he chose to stay. he explicitly told ren why he wanted to stay. grian kept reminding scar he'd leave as soon as he could, he wouldn't stay for him. he even said it the day of the 3-kill trap, if i remember correctly! as though he didn't relish every moment.

both grian and martyn were bound to another by the means of a deal.

and whereas it was a business partnership that became a loyal union for dogwarts, it was a soul pact that became a business alliance for the sandlands, at least that's what they want you to believe.

monopoly mountain and dogwarts were always destined to clash.

it was there from the first death till the very last, from the first episode and the first pact, to the final consequence of these contracts upon their deaths; loyal or betrayed, shoulder to shoudler or fist to fist

YEAHH THIS IS EPIC hope you have fun reading my analysis tag!!! i’m always happy to talk abt any season but usually with my own stuff i’m either talking about general themes in the life series (my fave thing ever ^_^) or last life specifically. 3rd life is my favourite of the three but last life has my brain in a chokehold anyway

and yeah god i absolutely LOVE grian-martyn and scar-ren parallels. grian martyn stuff makes me go crazy insane to the point that ive never wanted one of my posts to get notes more than that 5 second clip because i was being deranged about it at least a year ago and it’s vindicating getting other people to understand it. im putting them in my mouth. honestly though i think both grian and martyn may have ended up alone if not for their respective chance encounters - both of them played the early game very much alone instead of grouping up. grian never expresses that that’s what he wanted to do because he gets waylaid by scar so fast, but you can kinda see it in how he immediately builds a base alone (in a location that is not ideal for more than one person living there) and how he goes for singlehandedly taking resources like the villagers rather than teaming up with anyone. actually what i think would have happened is the blue sword boys would have seen more relevance (by which i mean martyn and bigb would not have allowed grian to forget) i don’t think they would have actually all based together right from the start but i could see them being an alliance. I miss the blue sword boys a normal amount <3

i think another similarity between them is both of them actually intended to leave. martyn wanted to betray ren but ooc the timing didn’t work out, which i choose to interpret as martyn - being as capable and independent as he is - trying to convince himself he should save himself and leave ren, but he just… can’t bring himself to do anything but die for his king, he can’t go through with it. grian obviously voices his intention to leave from the start but it’s the urge to stay that he has to fight and my god does he lose that fight. before he knows it he’s a yellow life asking scar to betray everyone with him because their only true allegiance is to each other.

scar and ren on the other hand are really interesting because yeah as you said, business partnerships and loyalty. that’s really their respective driving forces. scar’s a chaotic player, his friendship can be bought as easily as his betrayal. his loyalty is literally as worthless as a piece of paper. ren on the other hand is straight laced and the very thought of betraying an ally physically pains him, he won’t even steal. they’re polar opposites. i looove seeing them juxtaposed against each other bc they’re the greatest opposites in the whole of the life series i think and that’s what makes it so natural that they were the main conflict of 3L! they’re everything <3 they did in fact kill each other in 3L/LL, and also fun bonus in DL their soulmates both cheated on them with the other’s soulmate and both of them were indirectly killed by grian. ^_^
