“don’t call this ship between two ghostfaces ‘doomed by the narrative’ they deserved to die because they traumatized so many people-” well what if this was all fictional at the end of the day and we are all just here to play toys and have fun.

Apparently there's a game bug (from ea, not caused by cc) with growing together in which pulling a sim's tooth will result in a change of skintones/genetics that's then unfixable in cas. I saw this mod that should prevent it from happening, I would install it just in case. (And here's the reddit thread I saw about it with some more info)

Statement from Overwolf
...Okay, first of all, this whole statement is sadly nothing but them taking the same exact route as before: misdirecting & changing the narrative to only be about "victims" when their Home Support initiative is partnered with the ILF, an openly Zionist organization. This isn't about innocent parties only when they're partnered with an organization that contributes directly towards IDF Military Intelligence. All of the money from the fund goes to the ILF's bank account to distribute, per their own FAQ page. And even without that, the association alone is enough to boycott. Overwolf and Curseforge cannot be "clean of politics" while their CEO partners with and therefore directly supports Zionist parties.
Screenshots directly from Home Support website & ILF website
This statement overall stinks because it puts the blame fully onto people with legitimate concerns by calling them all harassers. Have some people gone too far towards creators? 100%. I know that well. But Overwolf is clearly using that to deflect off of themselves, and this is why it never should have been done in the first place. Y'all focused on the wrong shit- the smaller targets instead of the big ones, and the wrong claim that they're directly funding the IDF with CF revenue, and now they're doing exactly what I said they would: once again using the fact that that's not technically true to weasel out of people's concerns. They even directly call out the fact that it's misinformation like I said they would! They clarified fucking nothing, they repeated the same shit they already said because they know they can. We need to change the focus of the boycott so that they are forced to address their actual wrongdoing! Stop spending all your time sending threatening messages on anon and instead spread factual information with sources and reach out to creators in good faith effort to get them to speak without the fear of being attacked. They will stay silent as long as the negative consequences (financially & socially) is all on them and not Overwolf & EA.
I'm still working on a comprehensive post with everything, but in the meantime, please spread this post around.

I'm sitting here thinking about a pretty age-old debate on simblr... the race of sims that have black hairstyles, particularly in cc preview pics.
I know it's been talked about repeatedly, but when it comes to cc previews for paid cc I think it's especially worth talking about. Some people say, well, the creator only uses a few different sim models each time, it's not like they're intending to be racist or something. It's just for convenience, because they're busy, they're hustling, they gotta pay their bills. They always use the same sim, so it's fine. But like... isn't that gross to y'all? Someone making money off of black hairstyles, but they can't even be assed to go in cas for 15 mins to make a black sim? Isn't that a prime example of appropriation of black culture for profit? Like the human aspect of us as a person is gone, it's just another part of us being advertised and sold. Black hair makes money, black hair cc is limited, it will sell and nothing else matters. It feels like black hairstyles are some kind of trend with them too, because none of these creators made them before it was possible to profit off of them... back then it was "too hard" just like now it's apparently "too hard" to make a different preview sim.
Also, it's not lost of me that when a creator does make a black sim for their previews, they're as light skinned and white looking as possible. Whether just by skintone, very eurocentric features (like they just gave a white sim slightly darker skin), vitiligo to make most of the skin light, or claiming the sim has albinism. And while some of this I'm sure is just finding that aesthetic more "pretty", I also think this has to do with potential sales. I'm going to be honest... besides engagement by black simblr itself, I've noticed a lot of posts I have get less engagement/reblogs if the sim in question has darker skin and darker hair. It's much more likely to pick up in the mainstream cc finds blogs/YouTube videos etc, if the content is for white sims or the sim has lighter skin and light hair. I don't care about engagement and simply make whatever sim I want to make, and since I do have that variety, it's how I noticed this strange trend. And with the volume of content paywall creators make, I think they noticed this too. Posts with lighter skinned sims get better engagement, and thus, make more money.
Have you ever noticed, even in paywalled cc packs, there will usually be a sort of token effect? One white sim, one ethnically ambiguous sim, one black sim. This is great if you're showing off something that will vary for different skintones- makeup and skin details, for example- but why is it always like this? And why is the variety usually only in previews for cc packs instead of solo items (like hairs)? It feels like it's all to sell better, to appeal to different demographics and say, hey, I didn't forget poc exist! Please pay for my content! It feels disgenuine, and since creators like this rarely engage with the community anymore besides paid content, it's hard to figure out whether they feel this way or not.
Personally, I don't care much what people do in their own games- I might look at them weird for a sec, but I move on, cos it's their issue not mine. But like many other aspects to this community, when it crosses over into paid content, it sparks my interest. It feels like everything, everything, is about maximizing profit now. And for the people that focus on that, that's their prerogative and all, I can't exactly stop them, but. It's just something I observed and wouldn't mind discussing with y'all.
(Note: I don't apply the "profiting off black culture" part to black creators, obviously. Also no hate to any creators that do this stuff. Be reasonable adults, please. I'm just discussing in a constructive criticism type of way.)

So... it's just the simblreen concept stolen and renamed so that it can be paywalled? Right after they asked if they could paywall simblreen and the official account said no? We really can't have one fucking thing in the community that's just for fun and isn't monetized? My thoughts are... yikes forever. Gross. Disgusting. Ew. Fucking vultures. Hopefully they rip their pants in public. That's about it.

Also, I genuinely want y'all to look at the quality of these hairs that are being paywalled. I'm not trying to be mean, but I've noticed a low quality in their meshes and textures for some time now, and I want to point some of them out that are visible in the preview pictures so that y'all can clock this in the future (hopefully before paying).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of the issues I see are very stretched meshes leading to muddied textures, obvious but easily fixable clipping, bulky and sloppily scaled mesh parts, and lazily duplicated mesh parts (that not only look identical across the hair, but can add a lot to the poly count). And if this is all visible in the preview, it is 100% guaranteed to look worse in game. I also know this because there's only so many black EA hairs that you can frankenmesh, so I've worked with all of these same meshes/textures at one point or another. They are visibly very stretched, and there is no excuse for them to look like this and be paywalled.
I used to use josheoh's hairs in the brief period of time that they were a free creator, and I stopped downloading due to these quality issues. If they were still free, I wouldn't even mention it. But these are paywalled black hairs, during black history month, that were evidently not put together with much care at all. The only thing I can think of is that it was a quickly made cash grab, and that's extremely disappointing. Unless the quality is unintentional and they're just bad at cc making, but even then, well... the whole paywalling thing is pretty distasteful on its own. Please do better!
Edit: I just want to add to this post, that I know they do commissions. Based on the consistent quality issues I've noticed from them for the entire time they've been posting cc without any noticeable improvement, I do not recommend commissioning them. Please be careful with your money and look elsewhere.

Joshseoh kinda just ignored everyone pointing out it was wrong to paywall this during black history month and that whitewashing black ppl is wrong, because... shilling more bad quality hairs was more important ig? so anyway...
Y'all can download it here if ya really want it!
(tho tbh the quality is so bad i can't exactly recommend it...)

"I'll be going through my recent pledgers list once I'm home".
Just saving this for future reference... always remember to be careful who you pledge to people, in case you get caught in the crossfire of an awful creator on the warpath. They do love their doxxing... and canceling the recent pledges of innocent people with no possibility of a refund. Classy.

There should be a cc reviews blog for paywalled cc creators so people can know how the quality is before they pay for it/pledge to a creator 🤔 like discussing poly count, presence of LODs/maps/hat chops, whether their cc works on fat sims or on different skintones, what the items are edited from if they're small EA mesh edits, etc. Sorted by creator with notes of prices per month and how it compares to EA's prices and the prices of content from other gaming communities (which is usually $0). Also a safety section to note when a creator has shared patrons' personal information in the past. I'm sure it would ruffle some feathers, but a blog like that would be an invaluable resource for the community. In fact, there should be multiple blogs like this. The more ways to review the small businesses in the market that they've created, the better.
