Athena grant x Autistic!reader - only person
Tumblr media
Hiiii i was just wondering if you could do an Athena x Autistic reader where the reader is like her daughter and needs help to calm down ? - Anon💜
Athena was doing her rounds when she got the call to come back to the station immediately and she wasted no time in rushing back.
Jumping out of her car, she ran over to the doors and was greeted by an officer who was looking around frantically.
“Sergeant Grant!?” He rushed out.
“Yes! What is it?”
He gestured for her to follow him and they ran down the hallways and she realised what was going on and she pushed past him.
She ran to your desk and grabbed your chair, spinning it to face her.
“(Y/N)? (Y/N) look at me!”
Your breathing was ragged, and you were shaking your head, hands clasped over your ears as you lightly hit your head.
Athena reached out, taking your hands in hers and laced her fingers with hers and you looked at her.
“Hey sweetie..” she whispered.
You breathed heavily, stilling moving your hands slightly in his and she stood up, pulling you up with her.
You wordlessly followed her back to her car and she sat you down in the passenger seat and you looked around outside.
“Bet it’s a lot nicer out here.” She smiled.
You gave a small nod, your hand still holding hers tightly.
“You just sit here for as long as you need got it? I don’t care what anyone else says, you take as long as you need to.”
You nodded again and tapped your hand against the back of her hand and she leant against the car door with a smile.
“You just having a bad day?”
You nodded your head and looked up at her, taking both of her hands to lace her fingers with your own as you looked around.
Athena let you, just holding your hands.
She had done this loads of times, she was the only person who could calm you down so quickly, so even if they didn’t know her people knew to call her.
She seemed to have a soothing affect on you.
You looked at Athena, standing up and wrapped your arms around her and she happily hugged you back.
“Aw you know I love your hugs (Y/N).” She laughed.
“You give warm hugs.” You whispered.
She smiled.
“Well I’m glad I do.” She chuckled.
She moved you both side to side and you smiled as you copied her movements.
“Have you had lunch?” She asked.
“No.”
“Well get in, let’s go to your favourite place, get you some food and go for a drive.”
“Okay!”
You jumped back into the car and Athena smiled as she closed your door and walked to the drivers side to get in.
Athena had her own kids, but the moment she met you she felt the need to protect you, look after you and care for you and she had quickly become a parental figure for you.
You were like a daughter to her, you were funny and happy, and sometimes you had hard days, but she knew exactly how to calm you down

DENIAL
REGRET
ANGER
DEPRESSION
ACCEPTANCE
The five stages of grief could be seen as a series of rooms that all would pass through one day. Yet here the three of you were, stuck in different rooms with the doors thrown open. Staring through the passage, trying to make sense of this new world that emerged and encompassed you in a blink of an eye.
You stood in acceptance, a warm and homely space with its eggshell white walls decorated to the nines like a log cabin from your youth. With a crackling log fire in the furthest corner from the entrance. It was as if this room was a perpetual state of your favourite memory of Christmas morning. One that brimmed with joy and childish delight, where anything was possible. A point to step off from into a new beginning.
Athena stood firmly a few rooms back, in the dark red shades of burgundy, scarlet and sangria with veins of oranges and purples dancing through. Sharp edges filled the space, reflecting the pain that lay at the heart of it. The walls pulsated like a heart skipping a beat before cracking creating a unique jigsaw. This room was Athena, her anguish and fury. This was every argument at 3 am, every screaming match over the small detail. That sudden rush of betrayal that came when discovering that you had been wronged, that desire to have the answers to the questions regardless of the pain that would inevitably follow.
Bobby, he was starting on the outside looking inwards. Trying to make sense of what was playing out between his two lovers. He held none of the cards, and had no real answers to thousand or more whirling and desperate questions piling up. More appeared with every new facial expression or slight change in non verbal cues that were missed by most. He himself would readily admit that they would slip right past his gaze if he wasn’t completely laser focused but here was, gaze fixed flicking from one to the other. He noticed, he saw but at the same time, Bobby knew that he was missing vital information. There was more to the situation than a simple hit and run. He had been left out of the bigger picture and that Athena had discovered.
As the penny began to drop, he edged closer into Denial. That bland void of a room where the dusky grey walls gleaned. The furnished by a small moth eaten patchwork chair. The once thick foam had seen better days and the worn down barely brown carpet badly needing replacing. It felt foreign, disconcerting almost as if you had entered the wrong room but yet this was where you were meant to be? A room that easily generates follow on questions and what if statement at the drop of hat. That can of worms had been opened, stomped on to the point of obliteration. Nothing remained. For now there was no way for Pandora to now close that box and stuff back in all the horrors that had been unleashed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was a moment that he had never fully considered. Medical emergencies were given in his and Athena’s line of work but not hers. No, this had barely crossed his mind. He worried for sure, that was a daily occurrence. In those times when he was home alone, the darkness would encroach into his apartment. A heaviness would settle in like a fine mist blowing in from the sea and that inner doubtful voice would return.
Bobby could not deny that such abhorrent negative thoughts had passed through his mind at his lowest. Hitting rock bottom staring down at that bottle of liquor tempting him to drink away all his woes and simply forget. Forget that they were going to leave him, it was inevitable. Just over the horizon, there was someone better, someone young and not so broken as he. Yet here he was facing it down. His face paled, all whilst hiding by his mask but god was he scared for what came next.
Athena’s rage burnt hot, fast and was all-consuming. It was comparable to flash fire, that sudden chemical reaction that created an intense flame. It was there one moment then gone once it had rushed through the source of combustion. Right now, you were that primary source at the heart of the chemical mixture.
The spark that had ignited her ire, whipping it until it had exploded. Once it  had drawn you in, like a moth to a flame but now you had to stand strong as you walked into the bowels of hell. The intense heat biting at your flesh, daring you to keep your distance. This was not the time to keep yourself at arms lengths, for that time had long since passed. This was a moment to remain as cool as ice, you were riddled with a multiple of negative emotions, each fighting to burst through. Guilt by far, was one of the strongest, second to acceptance which led the charge.
This was your internal struggle, one that could wait until you were by your lonesome self, grieving this loss in a darkened room miles away from this place. Full well knowing that you had haphazardly chosen the cowardly way, thinking it was the best option at the time. In the back of your mind you had never considered that all your running would lead you straight here directly into the heart of the furnace, into the very depths of your own personal hell.
As you stood there, growing ever more anxious as each passing second ticked by. It echoed loudly in your ears, a constant reminder of the passage of time grinding to any of an almost standstill. Each second felt like an hour, an hour felt as if a lifetime had passed you by. Yet here you were standing still almost as if you were made of marble, frozen in time.
Even though this was the true heart of the storm, as the fast, razor sharp winds whirled around you cutting off any thoughts of escape. There was no way back, only forward. This would be far from an easy conversation. One that most feared as relationships formed, flourishing before obstacles presented themselves.
There were many moments that peppered each lifetime that were difficult to face. They had to be faced one way or another. You had chosen to take the easy path as you stood at the fork in the road but ultimately it had looped around, rejoining the harder path. A road unwalked, unpaved and full of tough choices. Ones that you wished and pleaded like a desperate coward stood in front of their executor crying out for mercy, but falling upon deaf ears.
Oh where to begin? As an impossible stream of starts to an inconceivable number of sentences and statements whizzed through your mind. It was a dizzying reality to beyond but this was yours and yours alone. Your anxiety creeps higher and higher with each silent moment. Soon one of you would have to break through, for it was palpable enough that it might be cut with a knife.
“Ideally, this isn’t the best place for the three of us to talk but this can’t wait” Bobby steely and more serious than you had ever seen him before. The point of no return had truly been crossed. For now, you were standing face to face with Captain Nash and Sergeant Grant not your lovers. The mere experience was both terrifying but yet pleasing. As a redness began to blossom upon your cheeks, equal parts embarrassment to lust. God, you should not be turned on by but it was so damn difficult not to be.
With your lower lip rotating in your mouth, tentatively biting down each time that the soft flesh made contact with your teeth. You needed to remain calm, level and completely neutral if you were going to smoothly navigate through the murky waters that you were sinking deeper into.
You need to think before speaking, treat this like an interrogation. The world melted away as you imagined yourself seated on a cold steel chair, with arms resting upon the smooth metal top of a table bolted down to the floor. You were in her wheelhouse now. As the stern and unwavering eyes of Sergeant Grant met your own, nervously flitting from one spot to another. You catch sight of Fire Captain Nash just beyond, with his back firmly pressed against the wall silently observing the room.
“You hold all the cards, it’s time to show your hand” The Sergeant firmly spoke, edging closer as she leant forward no more than an inch. It was hardly enough to be noticeable but yet your mind briefly wandered, removing you from your own perfectly constructed fantasy for a fraction of second longer than you desired.
“Then ask your burning questions Sergeant Grant'' You shot back as you fell right back in, unpausing the overly dramatic scene as you leant back into the chair, feeling its sharp edges start to dig in. It was truly the most uncomfortable seat that you had the displeasure of being forced to use. Silence followed, with only the steady beat of your own heart to keep you company as you waited for the next question to arrive.
“I’m waiting” You teased, prodded the quietly fuming Officer to see if she would take the bait and bite back. She remained silent, as the cogs within her mind churned, creating and then breaking now the questions that formed. As she worked through until she found the perfect opening line of enquiry. You would wait but he wouldn’t be the silent partner for a second more than necessary. It was hard to miss the rage circling within, fighting to break free and scorch the ground beneath his feet.
In the way, he clenched his fists so tightly that the tips of his fingers blanched or how the facial muscles tightened as he barely held back his tongue lashing out with the strength of his conviction fought back, lashing out with the intensity of the tempest that lay within. God, he was ready to break. Captain Nash was dancing on the edge of a blade. One wrong move in either direction then all hell would break loose.
The very thoughts of being on the receiving end of that explosion shook your world three inches to the left. It wasn’t something you had considered until this very moment. You were reaping what you had sown. With your focus fixed upon him, you had failed to notice her watching you watching him.
It was only for a fraction of a second, the briefest of moments before you pulled your gaze away from his. Just add another string to your bow, staring at one of your interrogators. This was far more awkward that you would have considered it to be but then again, you never thought that a situation like this would occur. Yet here you were.
“I didn’t wake up one particularly grim morning and say to myself let’s cut my losses and get out of this town as I lay there alone in my bed. You spoke with a waiving confidence that you feared would soon break but you needed this. To get what weighed heavily upon your heart off your chest. You continued on.
“Daring to hope that my phone would surge into life. For I knew what I was getting into when this all began but this went well beyond that” You paused to gather your thoughts before speaking once more. Athena however beat you to the punch, finding her voice. Her frustration is more prevalent than ever before. It was in the way she sat, back firmly pressed against the back of the chair.
"Yet, there is no clear example of you reaching out, trying to raise the issue with either parties"  She said through gritted teeth, biting back. Her words awash with razor sharp accusations. For she had one firm goal in the forefront of her mind. That was to cut down to the core of it, get the accused to confess and admit the wrongdoings that lined with the story the evidence told. To see that bleeding heart and reach the truth that was desperately required for peace of mind, to move forward from here. Throughout, her face remained neutral, a blank slate that revealed nothing of storm brewing rapidly within.
The trap had been set, the bait firmly in place. All Sergeant Grant needed to do was to be patient and wait. The temptation to react, to bite back would be too much to completely resist. How long would it take? A few minutes or maybe as long as an hour? She simply could not say or predict when the cracks would start to form as your resolve chipped away. She was waiting with bated breath for your mask to finally drop then she would have what she was after but would it be truly worth it?
For that was the one question that she could not predict what. It twisted like a knife to the gut would as she lingered upon it longer than she necessarily needed to. She pushed aside but would not go away so easily, haunting her like a dark cloud on a sunny day. Ready to spoil the mood at a moment's notice. Was she really ready for the next words to fall from your lips?
Athena held steadfast to the belief that she was but a sliver of doubt remained within, tainted this burst of certainty. Captain Nash noticed this momentary blip, this slight hesitation that fell over the surefast and confident Sergeant as her body language altered just enough to reveal her broken heart. It was only for a split second, there one moment but gone in the next but he noticed.
The Fire Captain abided by his promise, keeping silent in the background as Sergeant Grant conducted the integration. However there would come a time when he would enter the fray and say his piece. This was not the right moment, not quite yet but soon. His frustration weighed heavily upon his chest, his confusion at what he had missed. Professional pulled at core pushing back the overwhelming emotional centre of his being that bleed through the seams of stitches that held him together. Would this be the moment when his broken heart shattered upon the cement floor beneath his feet? He hoped that it wasn’t. Once had been more than enough.

It was a gunshot and Athena´s scream that filled and echoed through the deserted and silent streets, slowly dying in the darkness of the night. The flickering blue beacons of the police car behind you gave off the faintest light for the brunette to deduce that a rapidly enlarging blood-red smudge was spreading across your chest.
"Y/n.." she watched you intently, with that look on her face that was unlikely for her. Her eyes were wide open, pupils extremely dilated as her body was tensed and restless, almost trembling with fear.
Your gaze dropped to the spot where your uniform was beginning to soak up your blood and slowly, you dragged yourself forward to your best friend. The view in front of your eyes was disturbed by tiny black spots, which became more persistent and mixed with the slowly developing dizziness to an uncomfortable and unsafe feeling.
You felt your reserves of strength disappearing and leaving you and you were brought to your knees by this quickly occurring weakness. Before your body could reach the cold ground, two hands quickly slipped under your arms and caught you. "I´ve got you."
Gently, almost in slow motion, she pulled your increasingly heavier body onto the sidewalk and, as carefully as she could be, attempted to sit on it so that you came to rest on top of her. Laying in the arms of Athena, who pressed a hand to your chest to desperately stop the bleeding, you watched her screaming for help over the radio. "OFFICER DOWN! I NEED A BUS! NOW!"
"-thena." you said hollowly; your body shaking uncontrollably as your eyelids began to grow heavier with each second that passed. A small puddle formed on the floor beneath you, one of your own blood. "Don´t talk. Save your energy, sweetheart."
Even if no sound of complaint had passed your lips, the brunette only knew from the fine beads of sweat on your forehead that your injury was causing you the deepest and most severe pain. Still, she was pressing even harder on the gunshot wound, making you gasp while your body flinched on top of her- watching the warm blood slip through her fingers.
Too much blood.
She, too, felt shaky and uncomfortable in such a situation. Not only because such a wound was a matter of life and death, but also because it was you who stood in front of her to protect her and save her life.
As Athena bent her head down to you, she clasped your now limp hand tightly in her free one and wiped the tears from her eyes; leaving streaks of your blood clinging to her skin. "Help is on the way, stay awake okay?" she spoke positively and already heard the sirens of the approaching ambulance in the far distance.
She wanted to play the strong one, didn´t want to cry in front of you and make you feel like your story should end here and now- in her arms. But when all that you love in life was about to be ripped away from you, then what could she possibly do?
Nothing helped, no matter how hard you tried to fight the constant and growing tiredness, the immense loss of blood that has taken place in the meantime had only made your body weaker. "It doesn´t hurt anymore." you said above a whisper and Athena´s eyes flickered back to you.
"Hold on, please. I need you." You felt her hold tighten on you and her soft lips pressed against your temple. Your eyes, almost drained of life, turned once more to hers and met a completely destroyed and never before seen facial expression that had been overwhelmed with salty tears.
"I love you, ´thena."
Her heart broke at that statement.
Suddenly, all the anger against the shooter dissipated and only sadness and longing remained.
Your body grew heavy and limp in her hold and the small smile on your lips slowly faded. And then it went black around you; the cold and darkness tore you to your bitter death.
"I love you too, Y/n. I always did."

Can you do one where Bobby and Athena’s daughter is kidnapped from Daycare by someone trying to get back at Athena?
Athena’s POV
3 months. 3 long months since the last time we truly left the house. It was safe there. It was where I could protect my family.
 But lately I was struggling a lot and spiralling. I was working this big case and it wasn’t just affecting me anymore.
This case was a drug trafficking case. Angelo Lupo was the headmaster behind it. One by one we were scooping up the fishes. Angelo didn’t like that though. He couldn't do business without them.
One of the little fishes ratted me out. Told him who arrested him and they put a hit out on me Bobby ad the kids. Apparently, this Angelo man had a lot of connections we didn’t know about.
 My family was involved now and seeing those two worlds collide was hard. I felt like it was all my fault. May and Harry were with their dad. He took them out of state so that was one problem you would think was off my plate.
But it wasn’t i was always worried this son of a bitch would find them. Then I also had the problem that Bobby and Iris were still at home. Iris was me and Bobby’s daughter and she was only 5. I couldn’t ask Michael to take her to so she was home with us.
I couldn’t eat and I couldn’t sleep. The constant anxiety was over me. Bobby kept telling me that i shouldn’t worry and that I needed to try and act normal for Iris. She could tell something was off and we didn’t want to keep her scared.
I knew he was right but actually working on it was a lot harder than I ever thought.
There wasn’t much activity going on this past month. Maybe something happened to the guy. Maybe he ran out of the state so he didn’t get caught.
Today was a good day to put what Bobby was saying to the test. We both had work and there was no one to watch Iris.
I tried putting work off as long as I could. Hell we both did but we didn’t have any more time left.
 Bobby told me to put her in day care that she would be fine. I was trying to trust him.
Neither one of us could take more time of work. So i needed to put my trust in someone else to take care of Iris.
I could tell she was also ready to leave the house to. It wasn’t fair to her either. She needed her friends back and it wasn’t good for her to be stuck up in the house. So we were getting her ready to go to day care.
She was excited and I was trying to be happy for her to. She was running all around the house signing and dancing and it felt like the old her was finally coming back to her old self.
Bobby was packing her lunch and I was getting dressed for the day. 3 months was what i kept telling myself. 3 months sense any activity. Why would anything happen today.
“Let’s go mommy i’m ready” Iris yelled to me breaking me out of my thoughts.
“You got this it’s all gonna be okay” I told myself in the mirror.
I grabbed my stuff and headed on down. Iris was all dressed up and had her lunch box swinging in the air. Bobby was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs.
He was smiling up at me and damn that smile could always get you. I walked down the stairs and wrapped my arms around him. He pulled me closer and pulled me into a kiss.
It broke when Iris yelled out
“Ew that’s gross let’s go” She said scrunching up her face.
We broke apart and laughed and headed out the door. I was nervous but i didn’t wanna show it. I didn’t want to take away Iris being happy.
Bobby drove the way down. Iris was smiling out the window and she looked adorable and it did make me feel better seeing her so happy.
The daycare was about 15 minutes away but it felt like it was a lot longer. Finally after a while we reached in and Iris just about flew out the car.
We stopped and all got out.
“Hey baby wait up” I yelled out.
“Ugh fine” Iris yelled back
She ran back to us and Bobby bent down to her hug her. She wrapped her little arms around her and hugged him back.
“I love you baby have a good day” Bobby said.
I walked over and bent down to meet her to. I placed my hand on her face and smiled up at her.
“I love you to have a good day dad will get you after his shift” I said
“I love you to mommy and okay” She said in her little voice.
She hugged me and i hugged her back and have her a good squeeze.
“Now go on your friends miss you” I said
She ran off and i tried to keep my nerves calm. Bobby looked over at me and smiled
“You did good” He said wrapping his arm around me and kissing the top of my head.
“Yeah for now” I said back
We both got back into the car and Bobby was gonna drop me off at work. I was praying for a normal day. Not that those really exist anymore.
I didn’t even realize that we had pulled up until Bobby had broken me out of my thoughts.
“Babe you ready” He said
“As ready as I’ll ever be” I said chuckling and then got out the car.
Bobby got out with me and then walked over and gave me a hug. He kissed the top of my head.
He let go and looked down at me and smiled
“Your going to do great now go in their and kick some ass.” Bobby said
“Yes Captian” I said grabbing him by the waist and pulling him in for a kiss.
We pulled apart and i grabbed my stuff. We said our I love you’s and I went into the office.
I was meant with the usual sad and upset looks. Which was expected  honestly. I went to my station and sat my stuff down. I was on desk dusty pushing paper work. I tried to look on the positive of it but it was hard.
A good couple of hours had passed and things weren’t getting better. I was bored everyone was being different towards me.
I decided to step out and get some air. And as i was pulling out my phone to look at it the phone started ringing and my heart stopped beating when i saw it was Iris’s daycare.
I hurried up and answered
“This is Athena” I said
“Athena Omg the police is on the way  we tried everything” Her teacher said on the other line.
“What the hell is going on” I asked pure panic in my voice.
“A man came in he had a gun he made us get into a room and I tried to grab Iris but he wouldn’t let me” She said all in one breathe
“I’m on my way” was all i got out
I ran back in and went to the desk sargent. I barely also got a breath out trying to explain what happened.
“They took her” I said
“They took my baby they took her. Get the damn swat and every officer you can to 34th and 6th st. It’s Angel Ark daycare” I said.
I didn’t even hear him call in. I just ran out of the building and into a squad car. I turned the sirens on and i did 100 miles all the way down.
It usually takes about 15 minutes i got there in 3. That’s how fast I was going.
I stopped the car in the middle of the street and meant some other officers on the scene.
“Do we know anything” I asked.
“Were searching the cameras trying to see something sergeant.” One officer said.
“Try harder” I said walking away.
I walked over to her teacher who was with some kids trying to calm them down.
“What happened” I asked
“A man came in he had gun he shot a warning shot in the air and he made us all get into a room. And then he grabbed Iris and kept the gun on us” She said in tears.
“Thank you” I said touching her arm.
I was on my way in when Bobby cut me off
“Athena what the hell is going on” He said
Panic and worry all over his face.
“They took Bobby they took her” was all I could get out.
“What who” He asked
“Who do you think” I said
“What are we gonna do” Bobby asked
“Were gonna get her back he just got her he couldn’t have gotten far we closed down the area and were gonna have search times on the ground” I said
“I can take the truck out we can look you know keep an eye out” Bobby said
I knew he couldn’t just sit there. I mean what parent could
“Yeah that’s a great idea go” I said
I looked over at Hen who had a worried look on her face and i gave her a nod telling her to look out for him.
I walked into the day care. I don’t know what I was hoping to find but anything would be something. I looked around the scene and there wasn’t much there.
I decided to go to the cameras and see it for myself. I could feel my tight clenching and my palms sweating.
I walked into the office and sat down. I took a deep breath and pulled up the footage. I fast-forwarded to the time it had all happened.
My poor Iris her face looked so scared. It broke my heart so bad. But the man he had a limp and he had on a red bracelet. He looked familiar and I was trying to place it.
I kept re winding and then playing it again. Hoping to see if something anything would.
Then finally after the 100th time it hit me. Like a bomb went off in my head.
“It was him Angelo Lupo” He was a part of the team I took down he was close with his boss.
I knew the hell these people weren’t done. But I also knew that they kept a stash house close by here.
I was hoping this dumb ass was stupid enough to take her there. It was a place that was familiar and that he knew.
I pulled out my phone and called Bobby
“4876 Glendale ave check there bust every damn door they have” I said
“On it” was all he got out.
I ran out after them and got back into my squad car. I sped all the way down there sirens blasting.
I pulled up the house the same time as the 118 did. Me and Bobby both ran out and up the house. He kicked the door down and we kept quiet. He went up the stairs and I was checking the down stairs.
The upstairs was clear and I crept down the basement. My heart was beating fast and I could feel the anxiety growing closer.
I walked down the stairs slowly. I made it to the bottom and I saw her. My baby girl was laying on the floor. Her little hand was tapped to the pipe and it looked like she was sleeping.
I walked around the corner slowly and Angelo was sitting on the chair on his phone Dumb Bastard. Out of all things he was watching Tik Tok videos. He had no idea what was waiting for him.
I slowly walked over to him and cocked my gun on him.
He looked up and he was hella shocked.
“Your under arrest you sick son of a bitch” I took the gun and pistol whipped him in the head. He dropped his head and was unconscious. I took out my handcuffs and took his arms and arrested him.
“Bobby i got her” I yelled out.
A few moments later he ran down and ran over to her. I ran over to and Bobby checked her pulse. She’s fine it’s good.
Then he pulled out a knife and freed her little hand. We then pulled her into a group hug and smothered her with kisses.
Bobby then picked her up and carried out her out the house. Hen and Chim were waiting by with the stretcher.
“Were take care of her I promise” Hen said.
“I know” I said
I held her hand and followed them in the back. I walked into the back of the ambulance. Chim had on full sirens.
Hen worked on put a IV on her and was giving her some medications I knew nothing about. I just kept my eyes on Iris. Thinking if i looked away she would disappear.
We made it to the hospital in no time. When we rolled up the doctors and Nurses were waiting for us.
I didn’t want them to let her go but I also knew they had their work to do. Me and the rest of the 118 gathered in the waiting room.
I couldn’t sit still and neither could Bobby. I couldn’t believe my worst fear had become true. I never should have left her.
Bobby looked like he was reading my mind. He got up and walked over to me and grabbed my hands.
“There was nothing you could have done” He said
“We could have stayed home”I said
“What for the rest of our lives and look she’s gonna be fine and now you got that sick son a bitch and it’s over” He said.
“We don’t know she’s okay he could have drugged her with god knows what” I said
“Yeah well I can’t think like that right now our little girl needs us and she needs us to be strong” Bobby said
I knew he was right. I knew my baby girl needed me to be strong. I just didn’t know how to do it.
Bobby grabbed my hand and pulled me into sitting down. I sat in the middle between him and Hen and they both grabbed my hand.
It made me feel a little calmer feeling their touch.
A little bit later one of the Dr’s came in and we all jumped up when we saw her.
“She’s fine her toxic screen came back negative and all her labs came back normal. Which is good she probably just had a paniac attack she got scared and it made her tired.” The DR said
When she said that I felt my knees get weak and a wave of relief washed all over me. Bobby grabbed me up and I looked up at him. He looked down at me and he was smiling hard.
Everyone was cheering and hugging each other after they heard the news.
“See I told you she was gonna be okay” Bobby said
“Can we see her” I asked
“Of course follow me” The Dr said.
We got up and followed her down the hallway. I was getting anxious all over away but in a good way.
We finally made it and when i walked in my baby was sitting and smiling watching tv. Of course she was happy she always was.
“When can we take her home” Bobby asked.
“I want to keep her until tomorrow just to make sure she is okay” The dr said.
“Okay thank you” I said
We walked over to her and Iris nearly jumped out the bed when she saw us.
“Mommy and Daddy I missed you” Iris said
“We missed you to baby” I said
“Me to love bug” bobby said
We both leaned in and gave her a big hug
“You guys are hurting me” Iris yelled.
“Sorry” We both said.
Apparently it was to big of a hug.
Iris grabbed my hand and and she looked up at me
“Is the bad guy gone” Iris asked
“He is not coming back ever Mommy took care of him” I said
“Good” was all she said.
Then the whole 118 piled in after that and they were all hugging on her and showering her with gifts. Buck even brought a whole ballon Bouquet. Which Iris ate up she was in heaven.
Everyone was here and Everyone was going to be okay I told myself.
3 Months Later
3 Months had passed and Iris was adjusting okay. She had the nightmares and the nights she was sleeping with us. Which was to be expected. We got her a therapist to help her process everything.
 May and Harry were back home and it felt complete. Being all together again made me feel complete.
Angelo was arraigned and took a plea thank god. I was glad because Iris didn’t have to go through it all over again.
I stayed home to help everyone adjust to what had happened. I was working on going back to work to soon.
Knowing he was put away did take a lot of my plate. And I was anxious to get back out on the field. Everyone told me where it was i belonged and I knew they were right.
All i could keep thinking though was how 3 months could change everything, But I knew together as a family we could face anything and everything.

Enjoy.

(Y/n) slumped her left arm on the kitchen counter and turned the kitchen stool to the side when she heard loud footsteps approaching. Her eyes set on her husband and she did a quick sweep up and down his frame and bit down on the corner of her lip.
"You're leaving me?" Her lips curved into a pout and her head tilted to the side, causing Evan's heart to soften yet speed up at the same time.
He jogged down the last of the stairs and advanced across the apartment towards her with his arms stretched out in front of him.
As soon as he was within reach, Evan clamped his hands down on (Y/n)'s hips and moved to stand between her legs. He felt her knees pressing into his hips and her arms looped around his torso while her chin pressed into his chest so she could look up at him.
"Sorry baby, I gotta go to work." Evan leaned down and captured her lips in a kiss as his hands gave her hips a loving squeeze.
If he had the choice, he would stay home with her. Somehow, it didn't feel the same going to work without (Y/n) being there with him.
Evan was used to his wife working alongside him. He was so used to turning to her when he had a patient that needed transporting to the hospital and Evan loved those times when he got to ride in the ambulance and see (Y/n) at work as a paramedic.
The 118 really was a family-run unit, with (Y/n) being both Bobby's daughter and Evan's wife.
But she was on maternity leave now.
"Hmm, that's not fair, leaving me all alone." (Y/n) tilted her head down so she could press her face into his shirt and breathe in his scent and cologne.
(Y/n) didn't like being home alone, she didn't know what to do with herself and if Evan wasn't here to monitor her, she seemed to end up doing a lot more than she should recently.
"Sorry baby." He pecked the top of her head and rested his chin on her head for a few moments while he grazed his fingers up and down her side. "Promise me you're not gonna go out today, there's a storm and the last thing I need is a call saying you've had an accident or got stuck in this weather."
Evan panicked, he was a worrier by heart. But he knew his wife like the back of his hand. He knew she was becoming restless and didn't know what to do with herself when the nursery was already set up and they had everything ready for when their boy arrived. He didn't want (Y/n) going out when the storm was already rolling in and making itself known. Evan couldn't deal with that kind of phone call today.
He was on a double shift, he wouldn't be home until tomorrow afternoon and he dreaded to think what (Y/n) would get up to in that time.
"We get bored-"
"And I get worried. Please?"
A groan tumbled past (Y/n)'s lips and she looked up at Evan, feeling a shiver roll down her spine when she was met with his stern expression. Her hands grazed up and down his back and she leaned back on the bar stool until she was leant against the kitchen counter.
"Can you drop me at mums then? So I don't go crazy sitting on my own in here."
She watched Evan's expression soften into a warm smile and he nodded, pecking her temple again before he looked down at his watch.
If he was leaving her, (Y/n) would rather go somewhere and be with family so she wasn't alone. And she knew Athena wasn't at work today. They could have a catch up or watch some movies and just spend the day together. It would only be two weeks until (Y/n)'s due date and then there would be a baby in the mix, stealing all the attention.
(Y/n) and Evan had only been married three months before (Y/n) announced she was pregnant. As thrilled as everyone had been, they also took it as an opportunity to tease Evan. Telling him he didn't waste much time or asking if it was a shotgun wedding. The whole team loved to wind him up, but he didn't care.
He had his girl and now they were having a baby, Evan was going to be the happiest man at the station.
"Sure. Come on then, baby."
Evan slowly walked back so he was no longer stood between her legs and he held his hands out for her. He took her hands and helped (Y/n) slide down off the kitchen stool. He turned, about to walk towards the hall but he stopped when (Y/n) latched her fingers around his wrist and gave a sharp tug.
She pulled his arm close and pressed his hand against the side of her stomach so he could feel the baby wriggling. The movement made Evan's lips quirk into a lopsided smile and he brushed his thumb across her skin, waiting for another movement or a kick in his direction.
"Someone's happy today." He murmured softly and leaned down so he could press a kiss to her stomach.
(Y/n) held onto Evan's hand and followed him into the hall and she grinned, leaning against his back and his arm as she found her shoes. Evan had recently become her leaning post when she found it harder to lean over to bend down. It was why (Y/n) had gotten a pair of flat shoes that were easy to slip on and off so she didn't have to bend or pull them on.
She slipped her phone in her bag and hooked it on her shoulder, but both hands moved to grab the cabinet in front of her and she took a sharp breath when her back twinged.
"Okay?"
"My back twinged," Her fingers dug into the cabinet and her upper body arched forward to see if it would relieve the sudden twinge in her lower spine.
Her lips curved into a tight smile when she felt Evan's hand move along her back in slow, deep circles that did something for the pain and made her feel a little better.
"Maybe it's a sign you should take it easy," Evan murmured into the top of her hair. His hand continued to move along her back and his other hand moved to hold her arm for added support. He waited patiently for (Y/n) to take a deep breath and lean off the counter again but he could see the pain flicker across her face when she straightened up.
"It's a sign your son is a menace."
"Oh, so he's mine now, not ours?"
(Y/n) ignored his comment and tilted her head back to look up at Evan with a pleading glimmer in her eyes. "Tell him to be good?" She moved Evan's hand from her back to the lower side of her stomach and she waited as Evan leaned down to hover his lips over her bump.
"Behave, mister. Or else."

A crack of thunder broke through the sky and rattled the windows and the patio doors until it sounded like they were going to shatter. The rain beat down on the patio outside and a steady stream trickled over the stones and down onto the grass that was going to be flooded, come tomorrow morning.
(Y/n) shuddered at the thought of going out in this weather.
Her eyes glanced over at the clock on the kitchen wall. Seven o'clock. She had been here all afternoon and thankfully, the afternoon had gone by in a flash with Athena. They ate tea together, watched some movies and went through a few magazines and sorted through some things the station had got for when the baby arrived.
(Y/n) finished making two cups of hot chocolate and held one in each hand, but her eyes focused on staring out the kitchen window when she turned around. It looked like it was midnight with how black and dead the sky looked and all the white flashes rippling across the sky. The sheets of rain pouring down from the heavens didn't look much better, either.
She took slow steps back through to the living room but ended up shuffling her feet to see if it would dull the aching in her back and her lower stomach. The baby had shifted around again and now he was weighing heavy on (Y/n)'s abdomen to the point it was hurting every now and then.
"Thank you," Athena murmured as she placed down a bag of baby clothes near the coffee table and took her seat on the sofa.
Her hand moved to (Y/n)'s lower back and she watched cautiously as (Y/n) slowly sat down with a wince. She stayed sitting upright instead of slouching back into the sofa like before to see if it would do anything to help her discomfort.
"Well, I think you'll be spending the night with me, hun."
"Is that okay?"
"Oh, it's more than okay, you keep me company and I've had my instructions from Buck. We're not to go out in this weather, he said he'd come pick you up after work. And your dad would have my head if we drove out in this storm."
Athena didn't have a problem with (Y/n) staying over, it was the reason why they had the spare room here for friends and family to stay over. Although there was a lot of things packed into the spare room. Bobby was getting ready for his first grandchild and he was already planning ahead to the weekends when he could have his grandson stay over with them.
Leaning forward, (Y/n) took a sip of her hot chocolate and looked beyond the tv at the back garden. They hadn't drawn the blinds yet as both women rather liked watching the storm take hold and seeing the rain splatter down on the glass and sprinkle across the garden.
She looked over at the tv when Athena started searching for a new movie to watch, but she had to set down her mug when her stomach clenched. Her hand drifted beneath her shirt and she covered her grimace by biting down on her bottom lip.
When the baby started wriggling and hurting like this, it was when (Y/n) wished Evan was home with her. He had a knack for distracting her or giving a massage and the baby seemed to love the sound of Evan's voice.
"You okay?"
"Hm, he keeps moving." (Y/n) straightened up to click her spine back into place. And when she noticed Athena looking at her stomach, she smiled and gently took her hand, pressing it to the base of her abdomen.
They shared a smile between them and Athena danced her fingertips along (Y/n)'s stomach for a few moments before she turned to reach for the bag she brought in. She placed it on the floor between them so they could go through the garments together and decide which ones (Y/n) wanted.
It had been lovely that from the moment they told the team, everyone was overjoyed and wanted to be involved. (Y/n) and Evan got so many baby clothes and gifts from everyone that they had items coming out their ears now.
They started going through some items and had a movie on in the background, but (Y/n) could barely pay attention to anything.
Everything hurt.
Her back was twinging and felt like each column of her spine had weights pressed down on it like the bone was about to break. Her stomach was weighing heavy and every time she felt a twinge, she was starting to feel sick.
Maybe she needed to try and relax and get comfy to see if dozing off would take away the pain. God knows she had fallen asleep during enough movie nights with Evan this last month.
She heard Athena mutter something about finding them some snacks and she nodded, forcing herself to smile as she watched Athena head towards the kitchen. But (Y/n) moved her hand back to her stomach and started making slow circles beneath her shirt to see if it would help at all.
But then she felt it. A steady trickle of water between her thighs and a very sharp, tightening pain in her pelvis.
"Mum… ooh, mum!"
"Honey, what's wrong?" Athena set down the bag of goodies on the kitchen side and rushed back into the living room, skidding on the rug on the way.
She wedged herself between the arm of the sofa and the coffee table and knelt down at (Y/n)'s side. She placed one hand on (Y/n)'s knee and the other on her back, wondering if she had suddenly got back pains. Evan mentioned earlier that she had been having pains all week but that was normal.
(Y/n) couldn't bring herself to say anything. She just looked between her parted thighs, the floor, and Athena until her stepmum suddenly got the message and realised what had happened.
Her waters had broken. The pains she had been having all day were actually contractions. She was going into labour during a storm, without Evan here by her side like he promised to be.
"Okay… this is okay, give me a minute I'll go and call Buck."
Athena wasn't stupid. This was not the weather to be driving her daughter down to the materntiy ward at the hospital. She was a good driver, she was safe, she had to be since she was a seargent in the police. But that didn't mean Athena had been trained to drive during storms. It was too dangerous and if she crashed, they might not get help in time. Evan and Bobby might not find them or know what was going on if they crashed.
Staying here and getting help to come to them was by far the better and safer option and they both silently agreed on this.
Shuffling back a little, (Y/n) slumped back into the sofa and let herself sink into the cushions. She moved both her hands to cradle her stomach and began glaring daggers into her bump towards her baby. Why was he choosing to be born now? Why did he think this was a good time? It was two weeks early, right in the middle of a storm. Without Evan.
(Y/n) was expecting to go into labour any time from next week. Evan was supposed to be on shorter shifts as of next week so if this happened and he wasn't home, he could easily find his way back to (Y/n) and be there for her.
Her eyes looked up at Athena as she stood beside the sofa, one hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder and the other holding her phone to her ear.
Evan didn't answer.
"Buck, call me back please. (Y/n)'s gone into labour." She hung up after leaving a message and tried to ring Bobby instead.
He didn't answer either.
"Bobby, honey you and Buck need to come home when you get this message. (Y/n)'s with me and she's gone into labour. Call me."
Tears began to trace down (Y/n)'s face. She was afraid of this, it was her worst nightmare coming true. She knew the job was hectic and unpredictable, but she wanted Evan to be home when she went into labour, not out at work. She didn't want to be doing this by herself. Her only saving grace was she had decided to come here to be with Athena. She wouldn't have been able to do this on her own, at home.
Her eyes focused on Athena as she tried to smile and dialled for the emergency services instead. They would need to take (Y/n) to hospital soon and Athena wouldn't be able to do that. She would need medical help too if they had to wait a while for an ambulance to arrive.
"911, what's your emergency?"
"This is seargent Grant, I need an ambulance to my address. My daughter's gone into labour and she's thirty-eight weeks pregnant."
"How advanced is labour?"
"Her water just broke."
"Then can you keep her comfortable? With the storm, we have a backlog of emergencies and limited teams to dispatch. The current wait is almost two hours."
Panic struck a cord in Athena's chest and her hand tightened around (Y/n)'s shoulder. What were they supposed to do? Was Athena supposed to deliver her own grandson because they couldn't put this as a priority call? This was a woman going into labour, anything could happen or go wrong, they needed help and transport to the hospital.
"Make this a priority." Was Athena's response. They could wait a while, they might be able to wait an hour, but they needed help.
"Mum?" (Y/n) tilted her head back on the sofa and looked up at Athena. She wasn't sure she wanted to know what the dispatcher was saying. Why couldn't Maddie have been on shift today and answered their call? She could have talked them through this and got through to the team and sorted everything out. Maddie was calm during a crisis.
"Help will be here soon, honey."
They needed the team. They needed Evan and Bobby.
***
Tears traced down (Y/n)'s face almost as badly as the storm raging outside. Her hands clenched down on the back of the armchair and when a contraction tore through her stomach, she bit down on her lip so hard she drew blood. Her shaking arms pressed down on the chair and she leaned forward, burrowing her face into her arms.
Her back arched out and her legs began to shake from how tense they were straining to keep herself upright.
She felt Athena's hand rub up and down her back, but it wasn't the touch she wanted. It wasn't Evan. The thought made her tears fall faster and a lump formed in her throat. She shifted her weight from foot to foot and let out a scream when another pain tore her pelvis to shreds.
With a muffled scream, (Y/n) leaned over the back of the chair and scrambled around until she found her phone. She wasn't doing this alone. She wasn't having this baby without Evan. Someone was going to get the word through to him that he needed to come home. Now.
"911, what's your emergency?"
"I n- I need you to contact the 118." She gruffed, breathing through clenched teeth as her head started to go fuzzy.
"I'm sorry?"
"LAFD 118, get Buckley on the line- oow!" (Y/n) dug her nails so tightly into her phone she worried she was going to crack the screen. Her forehead pressed back down into the armchair while Athena moved her hands to hold her shoulders.
"Miss, what's your name and the nature of your emergency-"
"Get Buckley!" (Y/n) all but screamed before she held the phone to her left to try and get Athena to make the man understand.
She needed Evan. She knew dispatch could get on the radio frequency and contact the team because clearly they were out on a call. None of the team were answering their phones and (Y/n) was getting closer and closer to giving birth. If she had to do this without Evan she was never going to get over it. She wanted him here.
"Sir, you need to contact the 118 fire station and tell them that firefighter Buckley's wife is in labour. We called over an hour ago and we still haven't received any medical help. Tell Mr Buckley and Captain Nash the situation, now."
"Dispatch to Captain Nash?"
"Go ahead dispatch." Bobby gripped the radio on his shoulder but he could barely feel his fingers despite the thick gloves he was wearing. The cold from the storm was seeping into his bones by now and the rain had thoroughly soaked through his uniform to the point he felt like he was swimming.
"Is Buckley with you?"
A frown pulled on Bobby's face and he waved his hand over at Evan, shouting his name through the howling wind that was screaming at them all to go home.
"I have Buckley with me, what's the problem dispatch?" He wasn't sure why he needed his son in law here for whatever message they were about to receive. But something deep in his gut told him this wasn't going to be for anything good.
"We have Mr Buckley's wife on the line, she says she's in labour."
All the blood drained down to Evan's toes and his eyes locked with Bobby but neither of them could find words.
He shouldn't have come on shift this afternoon. He shouldn't have left (Y/n) at all this week to go to work, he should have stayed with her. He knew she hadn't seemed herself this morning when he dropped her off at Athena's. Thank God he took her there and didn't leave her home alone.
"Is she okay? Is she at the hospital?!" Evan shouted down the radio and leaned as close as he could to try and listen for the crackling response. The storm was creating a vivid distraction, he could barely see and now he could barely hear the dispatcher.
"We haven't managed to get a unit to her address yet-"
"Then don't. We're on our way."
"Oh God, mum…" (Y/n) lowered herself down to her knees and meshed her face into the back of the chair. Her fingers were about to dig through the top of the chair and her knees began to quake and cause friction against the carpet.
She barely managed to lift her head up to look to the side when she heard footsteps, but a sob bubbled up at the back of her throat when she looked over at Athena.
She was hurrying back into the living room with a bowl of hot water. There were towels, a few old blankets, gloves and scissors on the coffee table and the sight made (Y/n) want to be sick. She couldn't do this. She couldn't give birth here, at her parent's home, in the middle of a raging hurricane storm. This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
"Okay honey, I need to check how far along you are-"
"No, I c- I can't… hospital. We have t-to go," Her lips rolled together as she tilted her head back to look up at Athena with pleading eyes.
"Let me see how far dilated you are, then we can worry about the team tranferring you. This is just a precaution, okay honey?" Athena needed to be prepared. She had a gut feeling that (Y/n) had been in labour for a few hours now. The constant back pain all day and the twinges and pains she had been having which she could have mistook for general pains instead of the beginning of labour.
She might be too far dilated for anyone to move her once help arrived. The 118 were leaving their latest call and diverting straight over here which meant Evan knew what was happening. And he would be here soon for the birth of his son. But Athena needed to know if she had to step in or if they would have enough time to get her in the ambulance and down to the hospital.
Shifting to the right, (Y/n) let Athena grip her arms and carefully help her up to her feet. She held onto Athena's shoulders and tucked her chin down into her chest, wheezing through crackling breaths when another contraction hit.
Her hands gripped the arm of the sofa and she doubled over, arching her lower back out.
A strangled wheeze spluttered through her lips and she tried not to cry out while Athena laid a few blankets over the sofa.
When she sat down, (Y/n) slumped down as much as she could until her thighs were barely on the sofa and she felt like she was going to slide right down to the floor. Her hands pressed into the sofa to steady herself and she let her head tilt back into the cushion.
Her lips formed a broken smile and she huffed, feeling a laugh mixing in with her broken cry.
"You're s-supposed to be my- my birthing partner, not my midwife."
Athena's smile made her heart soften somewhat, but she couldn't help but feel uneasy and angry at the same time. This wasn't fair. She was supposed to go into labour at home with Evan right next to her. They were meant to ring Bobby and Athena, all meet at the hospital and she wanted Athena and Evan in the room with her.
But not like this. Athena wasn't supposed to be acting as midwife, delivering her baby during a storm with no help and no Evan in sight.
"And why can't I be both, at least until help arrives?" Athena patted (Y/n)'s knee, but when she turned around and grabbed a pair of gloves from the table, (Y/n) tensed up.
"Mum-"
"Honey, your dilated already, but it's okay. Buck will be right through that door in no time."
She grimaced and sank back on her heels when (Y/n) screamed, and not from the pain. Her hands moved to her stomach and she pressed down like she was trying to keep the baby right where he was and prevent him from moving.
She wasn't doing this without Evan. He had to be here, this was the part he was most excited about. Evan had been expecting to be with (Y/n) when she got the first pains and when her water broke. He thought he would be driving her to the hospital, not travelling through the rain to reach her in time.
Another scream broke past (Y/n)'s lips and she shrank back into the sofa when a horrible bang shot through the house.
The front door swung so far that the door handle crashed into the wall and created a dent in the plaster. Evan planted his hand down on the door to prevent it from swinging back at him and he barged inside, followed swiftly by his father in law.
"Baby?!"
"LAFD!" Bobby called out at the same time, his breathing ragged and a trace of a smile on his lips as the team followed him inside his home.
Evan shook his head from side to side and he dragged a hand over his eyes and nose, clearing away the sheen of water cascading down his face, blocking his vision.
"Evan- oow, Evan!"
Flinging himself around the corner, Evan skidded on the carpet and catapulted over to the sofa wedged in the corner of the room beside the fireplace. He practically jumped down on the sofa, bashing his shoulder into the back frame which sent a jolt running down to his fingertips.
"I- are we- I haven't missed it?!" Terror and dread flooded his voice as he shed his gloves so he could take (Y/n)'s hand in his.
"You're just in time. Where's Hen? She's too far gone to move her, this baby's coming now." Athena waved her hand towards the top of the stairs where Hen, Chimney and Eddie were following inside with medic bags and a gurney between them. They slammed the door shut, keeping out the raging storm that sent frozen chills throughout the air and had them all shivering at the temperature change.
"Thank fuck! Oh baby, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."
When Evan leaned across and pressed his frozen lips to her temple, (Y/n) cried out and reeled back as his helmet smashed into the top of her head.
"Evan." She snapped, giving his helmet a rough shove and she dragged her eyes up and down his overalls. She could feel the rain seeping into her shirt and soaking through the blanket laid out on the sofa beneath them.
"Oh," A sheepish smile pulled at his lips and he wrenched up from the sofa, tossing his helmet down to the floor. The helmet had saved him from getting his head caved in outside from the storm.
His arms flung out behind him and he tore off his overcoat and unhooked his suspenders. In one fell swoop, he shoved down his overalls that were drenched through and through and stumbled out of them so he was in his cotton shirt and trousers. He kicked his uniform to the side, grateful when Bobby moved them out the way as he shed his own jacket and helmet now they were inside.
His trousers and shirt were damp, they were almost as drenched as his overalls, but he was at least a bit dryer like this and a lot more comfortable. Once he shed his second skin, Evan slumped back down on the sofa.
He curled one leg up beneath him and shuffled across until he could loop his left arm around the back of (Y/n)'s shoulders. Her head fell on his shoulder so he could feel each harsh, gasping breath she took fan against his neck. And he held his right hand out in front of her so (Y/n) could put his fist in her grip and cling tightly to him.
"Hen, she's crowning." Athena snapped off her gloves and moved to sit on (Y/n)'s other side on the sofa so Hen could take her place.
"I leave you for one day and look what you do… trying to have him without me, hm?" Evan muttered the words quietly against her temple and he ran his hand up and down her arm.
He felt (Y/n) try to laugh but she broke off into a groan when her stomach tightened. She shifted her weight from her heels to her toes to try and steady herself so she didn't slump forward, but all she wanted to do was crumple down to the floor and fold in on herself.
"I thought y-you wouldn't make it," (Y/n) closed her eyes and leaned further into Evan, pulling his hand up to her chest as she screamed.
"I know, I know baby but I'm here now. We're all here,"
"Really big push (Y/n), and the head will be born." Hen snapped on a pair of gloves, shed her jacket and helmet and grabbed one of the towels from the table. She laid it over her lap as she knelt down on the floor. She could feel Bobby hovering on her left near Evan while Chimney and Eddie hung back at the stairs. They didn't want to overpower (Y/n) and flood her with people when that would be the last thing she needed.
"Here we go," Evan murmured into her hair, giving her hand a squeeze, although he could barely feel his hand anymore from how tightly she was gripping him.
The moment Hen announced the head was out, (Y/n) opened her eyes as Evan leaned forward to take a look which in turn made (Y/n) lean over a little. She kept his hand held to her chest and moved her free hand to hold his thigh, steadying herself on the edge of the sofa.
"Small pushes, panting breaths, you're almost done now (Y/n)."
(Y/n) could see stars dancing across her eyes when that last push finally worked. Her head slumped against Evan's neck and she could feel him laughing into her hair as he let go of her hand to cup the back of her neck.
"That's my girl." He spoke against her temple, brushing his thumb up and down the side of her neck as he suddenly realised he was swaying them both back and forth.
"Buck, you wanna do the honours?" Hen held out a pair of scissors after she's clamped the cord and her cheesy smile made Evan laugh.
He carefully unwound his arms from (Y/n) and eased her back into Athena's embrace who held her tight and kissed the back of her head. He shuffled to the edge of the sofa and leaned over, trying to stop his hands from shaking when he leaned down to cut the cord.
"Here's your beautiful boy." Hen praised, lifting up the wriggling newborn who had no trouble taking his first breath and using it to scream and announce his presence.
(Y/n) could feel herself shaking against Athena when her baby boy was delicately laid on her chest. She tightened the towel around him and tried to hold him as carefully as she could. His tiny fist wormed beneath the collar of her shirt and rested on her chest while his cheek pressed down beneath her shoulder.
Her eyes sparkled when Evan's hand curled on top of her own, cradling the back of their son's head while he perched his chin on (Y/n)'s shoulder. He pressed an open-mouthed kiss against her neck and glued his chest up into her shoulder, smiling down at the little boy that brought tears to his eyes.
"Do we have a name?" Athena spoke quietly, rubbing her hand up and down (Y/n)'s arm.
When she looked up, she smiled at Bobby who sat down on the arm of the sofa just behind Evan. He leaned over for a first look at his grandson, the person he had been waiting months to meet. And the sight had him smiling from ear to ear.
"Yeah, uh… Bobby."
"What?" Reaching out, Bobby planted his hand on Evan's shoulder but he couldn't tear his eyes away from his grandson to look at his son in law and see what he wanted. Did he want Bobby to pick a name? Was he asking him something and he just couldn't concentrate?
"No," A wide grin broke out on Evan's face as he lifted his chin from (Y/n)'s shoulder to look behind him at his captain. "That's his name, Bobby. After you."
Tilting her head to the right, (Y/n) leaned her temple against Evan's cheek and tiredly smiled up at her dad. They had already agreed as soon as they thought about boy names that their boy would be named after Bobby. He was one of the most important people in (Y/n)'s life, he was her dad and they had been through so much together.
And he was more than just a Captain to Evan. He had become a father figure to him, he looked out for him and took him under his wing. Bobby loved and cared for Evan better than his own parents did, and that was the kind of parent Evan wanted to be to his boy.
"You… you're naming him after me?"
(Y/n) nodded and smiled back down at her little baby as she tucked herself more into Evan's side. She could see her dad grinning through his tears. He was happy. He was proud.
"Baby Bobby."

Tumblr media
It was a late Friday night when everyone on the BAU team got the call that you all were headed to a case in LA. Luckily for everyone, everybody already had their go bags packed. When JJ got the call you, Y/N Nash, were all out clubbing together celebrating a case solved. You had walked outside to your car to call your dad, Bobby Nash, and mother, Athena Grant. The phone rang twice before he picked up.
"Hello?" Your father's husky voice came through.
"Hey, Dad." You said quietly you always loved the sound of his voice.
"Hey, honey. How are you? You sound tired." He said a little bit concerned then you heard Athena's voice come through and ask if that was you and to put you on speaker phone.
"Hey, sweetheart!" Athena said in her cheery voice and you smiled.
"Hey Athena. How are you and everyone else?" You asked
"We're good! Missing you." She said and you quietly laughed.
"You didn't answer my question Y/N." Your father back on the phone.
"I'm fine. Just a little tired. The last case got to me." You told them the truth. You always told them the truth.
"Are you allowed to talk about it?" Athena asked.
"I can tell you but it's not to be repeated." You said
"We understand." They both said at the same time.
"The case was about an unsub taking kids that resembled their kid that passed away due to drowning. They would keep them for 3 days and then drown them. We saved the last kid but they were around Harry's age." You told them and they were silent.
"Oh baby girl. I'm so sorry." Your father said. You looked up when you saw a shadow standing outside your window. You saw it was JJ.
"Hey guys hold on. JJ needs me." You told them and opened the door.
"Hey sorry to interrupt but we got a case." She sighed and you nodded.
"Ok let me finish up here and start rounding up everyone I'll drive whoever doesn't have a car here." You told her and she nodded and headed off to round everyone up. On the other end of the line Athena and Bobby were smiling at how you were taking charge, it must run in the family.
"Sorry guys. We got a case." You told them.
"You just got done with a case. Have you gotten any sleep?" Your dad asked concerned.
"Dad, I've gone on a lot less. I'll be fine this is what I signed up for when I joined the BAU. I love you guys." You told them, it was true you've gotten some sleep but not enough and you've ran on 2 hrs of sleep before.
"We love you too. Be safe. We'll talk later." Bobby said.
"Absolutely." You said smiling you said goodbye again and hung up.
About the time you hung up the team was heading your way. You got out to greet them. You all load up either in your car or separate cars, thankfully most of everyone took their own cars.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
When you arrived at the BAU headquarters everyone got out started to file into the building. Nobody was really complaining about being back except for Morgan who had been currently dancing with some lucky ladies.
"Always when I'm getting my groove thing on with the ladies." Morgan said as you all sat down waiting to be briefed. You just laughed.
"Morgan, I don't think you'll have a problem getting your groove thing back." He just laughed.
"You're just jealous that it's not with you." Morgan teased and you smirked.
"Oh, I'm just heartbroken." You faked hurt. He had always flirted with you but you had another man on your mind, a certain blonde-haired, blue-eyed, with a unique birthmark, a few tattoos, and is firefighter under your dad's command, even though he has a girlfriend, you had no interest in Morgan. Hotch, JJ, and Garcia walked into the conference room.
"A body of a teenage girl was found dumped in a local park in CA. According to LAPD, this is the 8th girl taken. Her name was Amanda Hills." Hotch said as Garcia pulled up the pictures.
"The medical examiner has confirmed that they were sexually abused and then their throat slit post-mortem. Then dumped during the night in the park and found the next morning they're usually unclothed." JJ said. "We also have gotten word that a 9th girl has been abducted, Amelia Lanco." She reported.
"All the girls had signs of abuse. They also reported that they were stabbed in the same places beforehand and then strangled. They also had their throat slit afterward." You said looking at the tablet in your hand. You swiped the picture to get a better look at the victims and your heart stopped. They all look like May. You took a shaky breath before continuing "They also sent a video to LAPD which they gave to us." You said and Garcia played it, it showed the latest victim chained to a pole blindfolded, and dressed in only her bra and panties. Only a few seconds were played but that was enough for it to be engraved in your head forever.
"It also says here that he keeps them for 2 days and then dumps them." Rossi said to the team.
"Wheels up now." Hotch said and you all filed out of the room and picked up your go bags and headed to the jet. It was a 5 hr flight. As you were walking up the jet Hotch stepped you.
"Are you alright?" He asked you and you hesitated.
"All those girls looked like my sister, Hotch." You said and he nodded in understanding.
"Do you need to sit this one out?" He asked and you shook your head.
"Absolutely not." You said and nodded.
"If it gets too much come tell me." He said and you nodded your head. You both got on the plane and were up in the air in no time.
"It says here that the unsub keeps them for a total of 5 days before killing and dumping them. All of them were 18-24 years old." Rossi said. "The girls are taken during broad daylight but nobody claims to see anything." He continued.
"What if they do see it but just don't want to mention anything?" Spencer said and you nodded along with the others "It says here that 9-1-1 calls were called in from the same number but they always ended shortly after before help could help. All the numbers were the same and dispatch said that there were before the girl could say what was wrong a man came on and disconnected it." He said.
"Ok. I want Y/N and JJ I want you to meet LAPD and the fire department at the latest scene, we ask for them not to touch it until we're there. Reid and Morgan, I want you to go to dispatch and listen to the 9-1-1 calls. Emily, Rossi, and I will go to the police station to start setting up a profile." Hotch said and you all nodded in understanding. 5 hrs went quickly and before you knew it, you were touching down in LA. You all went to where you were supposed to go. You and Reid got into the SUV, you driving, and headed to the crime scene where you met your father, stepmother, and your current crush.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
You strolled up to the crime scene and saw the 118 firetruck and ambulance there along with several police cars including Athenas. You parked in front of the firetruck and got out and killed the engine and got out the same time JJ got out. You both had sunglasses on and walked to the crime scene.
"Welcome Agents. I'm Detective Lou Ransone." Lou announced and JJ spoke up.
"Nice to meet you. I'm SSA Jennifer Jareau but everyone calls me JJ and this is SSA Y/N Nash." She said nodding to you, everyone shook hands.
"Nash? As in Fire Captain Bobby Nash?" He asked and you nodded.
"That would be correct." You said just about the time when Bobby and Athena walked over.
"Hey! I didn't know you were coming to LA." Bobby said and you shook your head.
"Neither did I until 5 hrs ago. So what do we have?" You asked about getting into your professional FBI voice Bobby and Athena was impressed. Detective Lou answered your question as you all walked over to the body and you bent down to examine it along with JJ, who gave you gloves to put on.
"Call came in early this morning, around 7 AM from a frantic jogger that was jogging and discovered the body." Detective Lou said and you both nodded. You were watching JJ when she stopped and that got your attention.
"What do you got JJ?" You asked her.
"This is new." She said and pointed toward the left shoulder. "None of the other victims have had a bite mark on them." She said and your eyebrows shut to the one of confusion.
"You're right." You said, "Do you think we're dealing with more than one unsub or are they changing their mo?" You asked forgetting that the rest were there.
"There could be a good possibility." She said and about that time Buck, Eddie, Hen, and Chimney came over. You looked up and noticed the crowd. You got up which alerted JJ. She looked over and saw the news crew. You looked over at Detective Lou and Athena.
"Tell your detectives and officers that this does not get to the media. Not until we're ready to give a profile." You said and they nodded.
"Buck that means no telling Kelly anything." Eddie said and a surge of jealousy went through you. You didn't wait around to hear the rest. You went back to searching the crowd when you spotted something out of the ordinary. A man in his late 20s with a ball cap that was hiding his face and a jacket on with his hands in his pocket. He saw you and started to move.
"What is it?" JJ asked you
"There is someone in the crowd that doesn't look too concerned." You said and when you both went to question him he was gone.
"Let's get back to the station and get with Hotch and the rest." JJ said and you nodded and did just that
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
While you headed back to the police station you talked over all the details with JJ. When you arrived you killed the engine and walked in and to the conference room where you were set up for the time being.
You told Hotch what you had come up with. He nodded letting you know he understood. "I think we're dealing with more than one unsub." You had said.
"Why is that?" He asked asking for further explanation.
"JJ I forgot to show you but I got a picture. There was another set of footprints, smaller than the other. Also, new evidence has been found, there was a bite mark on the shoulder of the latest victim." You said and pulled up your pictures sending them to the tablets. "Also if you look back at the video you can see at least one male forcing moves on her, and another one holding the camera." You said and they looked at you and realization came upon their face. Gracia phoned you all and Morgan answered the phone.
"Talk to me momma." Morgan said
"Ok my lovelies I ran the names through all of the systems and it turns out that they all went to the same high school and lived in the same neighborhood." Garcia said.
"Do you have an address of the latest victim and the other one that recently was taken?" Rossi asked.
"What kind of question is that? Of course I do. I'll have them to you in a jiffy." Gracia said and hung and true to her word she had everyone's phones pinging.
"Nash and Morgan I want you to go and talk to the parents of the latest victim, Mr. and Mrs. Lanco, and start talking to places that they frequently visited show them pictures of Amelia. Rossi and Reid start building a geographical profile and JJ start going through tapes and camera. Prentiss your with me, we're going to go and check out the Hills." Hotch ordered around and you all nodded and you left with Morgan with Preintess and Hotch following.
You both got into the SUV and headed to the address that Garcia had given you. It was in a neighborhood you knew all too well, it was the neighborhood your parents currently lived in. You arrived at the Lanco Residence and got out of the SUV when it was parked and turned off. Morgan stood right by you as you walked to the door. Morgan knocked and Mrs. Lanco answered the door.
"Mrs. Lanco, I'm SSA Morgan and this is SSA Nash." Morgan said introducing you both.
"Oh like fire captain Nash?" She asked and once again you nodded.
"Yes ma'am." You answered her. "Mrs. Lanco, we're here to talk about Amelia." You told her and let you both in and into the living room where Mr. Lanco was.
"Honey this is SSA Morgan and SSA Nash." Mrs. Lanco said her husband got up and shook both of your hands. She offered you a seat on the couch and you took it.
"First I want to say I'm sorry for your loss. Did Amelia have any enemies?" You asked then.
"No none at all. She was a very well-liked girl." Mr. Lanco said "She wouldn't hurt a fly." He continued.
"She always helped around the house and loved everyone." Mrs. Lanco said and you nodded.
"If you have any more to add, here is my card with my number. Please let us know if anything else comes up." Morgan said and handed them his card.
"We will. Have a nice day agents." Mr. Lanco said and got to show you to the door. Once out and in the SUV, Morgan was the one driving this time, you two began to talk.
"Ok so Amelia seemed like a nice girl. She helped out around the house and helped her parents." You said to Morgan and he nodded.
"She also didn't have any enemies, no one to hate her. That we know of." He said and it was your turn to nod. "I wonder if Hotch and Rossi got anything different." He said and you nodded. You started to visit each location the victims frequented but it was no use until the last stop who told you both a description of the guy and actually had videos from CCTV.
You both arrived at the station and got out of the SUV and made your way into the building. When you got to the conference room Hotch and Rossi were already there and were already talking.
"What did you both find out?" Hotch asked and so you spoke up.
"She was a really well-liked girl. She helped out around the house and wouldn't hurt a fly. She also loved everyone. Also, the last place they visited had a video that showed the victims leaving with one of the unsubs. Videos should be here now." You said relaying the conversation that you had with the parents and other information. Hotch nodded.
"This Hills said the same thing about their daughter. So why is this unsub going after friendly girls and who helps around the house? Rossi said and asked.
"He must be going after a specific person but can't have her or saving her for last." Emily spoke up and it hit you. May was like that so he must have May on his mind. You looked at Hotch and he was looking at you, you knew what he was thinking.
While you, Morgan, Hotch, and Emily were out. JJ, Reid, and Rossi had gotten the names of the unsubs, Jackson Phillips and Anthony Bennett. Garcia also gave pictures and. It was silent for a minute then Gracia phoned.
"Guys I just got a video of Amelia from the unsubs." Gracia said "Sending it to you now." She said before you all could get anything else out. Your phones pinged.
Just then Athena walked in "We just got a report of shots fired at 23 South Comet Drive."
"That's the same address that the video sent from. Ok guys let's go." Hotch said and you all threw on your Kevlar FBI vests and you were on your way.
You all got there at the same time as the 118 and the other police officers. You were the first one out of the SUV and then followed by Morgan and the others followed. You saw Buck and he was looking at you but you were too busy running to the door. When you got there you had decided to kick down the door.
"FBI! OPEN UP!" Hotch shouted and when you got no response he nodded at you and you brought your foot up and kicked down the door. In fluid motion and boy did you feel powerful. You all rushed in. Everyone split up.
"CLEAR!" Hotch yelled out
"CLEAR!" Morgan yelled out
"CLEAR!" Emily yelled out and then you got to the basement.
"Guys we need a medic down here!" You said into your comms just as the man coughed and blood spewed out.
Everyone else ran down along with Hen and Chimney. You were bending down when they came in. They worked on him and when they got him out onto the gurney he was awake and you went up to him along with Hotch. "Anthony Bennett?" You asked.
"Yes?" He replied.
"You are under arrest for the murder of Amanda Hills and 6 other kills and the kidnapping of Amelia Lanco." You said authoritatively he just looked down like he was upset that he got caught. An officer gave you cuffs and you handcuffed him to the gurney then turned the officer as Hotch spoke.
"I want an officer posted at his hospital room at all times and when he's healed take him away." He said and they nodded. He turned to you once they loaded him up and left. "You need to tell them who they're really after." He said and you looked at him he would never suggest that. He must've seen the look because he continued "They need to know and I know how you get when you have to keep a secret." He finished and you nodded.
You walked over to Bobby and Athena as well as Eddie and Buck. They saw you and saw the look on your face. "What's wrong?" Buck asked.
"This is not easy for me to say this but the unsub's target is May." You told them and the color drained from their face the same it had done to you when you saw it. "That's the same look I had when I saw it." You said and you felt bad "I wasn't allowed to tell you until now." And that was true even if it wasn't spoken you knew the rules.
"Are you absolutely sure?" Athena asked
"Yes. We want to put someone with her the entire time and we will be calling the 911 command center to let them know. I also want Maddie to know." You said and they nodded. You all talked more and then you needed to go.
"Y/N wait." Buck said as he jogged over to you and you turned. "How have you been?" He asked and you looked at him expression neutral. Even though you were jumping for joy on the inside but you knew he had a girlfriend.
"I've been fine Buck." You said and gave him a small smile.
"That's great! Hey listen maybe we can hang out after this is all done." He said and you sighed.
"We can hang out but Buck you have a girlfriend and I don't want to stand in the way of you two." You told him and he nodded his head "Do you have your phone?" You asked him and he nodded and so you held out your hand and you put your number in and then sent a message to yourself "I have your number now. Text or call me." You said and then turned away and back to the SUV. What you didn't see was Buck smiling like an idiot and what you didn't know was that he liked you too.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
It was the next day and you had gotten zero sleep. You just couldn't fall asleep not with that creep of a murder running around. Everyone greeted each other and got to work. "I think we're ready to give a press conference. Y/N want you to give it." Hotch said and that surprised you but got ready to do one anyways. "Tell them that we have a suspect in custody and tell them what and who to watch out for." He said and you nodded your head. The news reporters and several television stations were there. You were nervous but you were ready to give to do it.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Bobby had told Hen and Chimney what you had told them and Buck had told Maddie. "Hey the FBI is about to give a statement." Buck said and so everyone gathered around.
"I'm SSA Y/N Nash with the FBI. We have a suspect in custody but the other one is still at large. We ask you not to approach this man he is considered to be armed and dangerous. He is a white male in his early 30s and has black hair and blue eyes. He is usually seen in a black baseball cap and has a scar over his right eyebrow. Up on the screen is a picture that will help you identify him. We also ask any female to not be alone at all times while this case is going on. If you see this man or he approaches you please call the FBI hotline or 911. There will not be any questions at this time. Thank you." You finished your speech.
Everyone was silent. "She looks stressed." Chimney said and everyone nodded in agreement.
"She also didn't look like she got any sleep." Hen said.
"I just hope she's ok. Maybe I can convince her to stay a couple of days afterwards." Bobby said
"We would love to see and hang out with her again." Eddie said and again everyone agreed. Buck was silent he loved you and wanted to be with you but was too stupid and hid it, now he was with Taylor and he didn't want that anymore he wanted you.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Everyone at the call center gathered around the TV as the news began to play. There was chatter going around and questions. May and Maddie were together when it was playing and it freaked her out because she knew this person.
"Oh my gosh." May said in disbelief.
"What? What is it?" Maddie asked her concerned.
"I know that man. He's always in Cali Café. The café that I really like and the one I brought coffee to you from. He's a barista." She said and Maddie knew what she was talking about.
"Have you told Y/N?" She asked and May shook her head. "I think you need to." She said and May nodded her head and pulled out her phone and dialed your number. You answered on the first ring.
"May?" You answered
"Y/N I know that man." May said to you.
"You do?" You asked surprised
"Yes he's a barista at Cali Café. That's my favorite place to get coffee. He was fired last week though for inappropriate behavior towards women and taking off so often." She told you and you nodded tho she couldn't see.
"Ok. May we are sending someone to stay with you until this whole things blows over. I want you to be safe and if you need to stay with Maddie." You told her
"Ok. I got it." She said
"Good. I don't want anything to happen to you. I love you May." You told her
"I love you too sis." She said and then you both hung up the phone.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
You relayed the information to the team and they had sent an officer her way. Everyone was working and trying to figure out a plan and his plan when Athena came rushing in "They just found a body." She said and that had you all getting up and rushing off. When you arrived it was in a park just like he originally had done. There were strangulation marks around her heck and she was severally beaten and the new signature of a bite mark. The 118 also arrived a minute later.
"That is Amelia Lanco." Rossi said standing up from having been bent down.
"Someone needs to go and inform the parents. Reid and JJ you go." Hotch said and they nodded and headed to one of the SUVs.
"I think now that he's dumped her. He's going to go after May now." You said and they nodded in agreement. You all didn't care who heard since you had already told the 118 and Athena. "We have an officer with her, correct?" You asked and Athena nodded her head.
"Yes Detective Lou is with her." She said and you nodded your head. Hen and Chimney had loaded Amelia up and headed off.
"Good." Just then the media rolls up and to be honest you were pissed. "What the hell is the reporters doing here? How did they get information?" You asked sounding pissed and everyone could hear it.
"Rossi and Prentiss go take care of it." Hotch said and he nodded and headed that way then you looked at Buck.
"Did you tell her?" You asked in a pissed off voice.
"I swear I didn't. You have to believe me. Y/N I promise I didn't." He said defending himself and that's when Bobby spoke up.
"He didn't tell her anything. He hasn't even looked at his phone since he's been at work." Bobby said to you.
"He's been with me the entire time." Eddie said and you nodded believing them but it still infuriated you that she found out somehow.
"Agent Nash! Agent Hotchner!" An officer yelled out and you and Hotch turned and saw an officer waving you both over. So with one last look at Buck who had an expression on his face that you couldn't place you and Hotch walked over to the officer.
Buck stood there and looking in shock. He then turned to Bobby. "I swear I didn't tell her." He said.
"We know that Buck. She knows that too but she's just stressed right now and from the looks of it not getting enough sleep. She would never jeopardize a relationship that she truly believes in. Just give her some time." Bobby said and Buck nodded.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
You were truly getting frustrated and were getting little to no sleep. Hotch has pulled you aside and talked to you about snaping on people and that if you didn't stop he was sending you back to the hotel. It was in the middle of the day when you got the worst news any FBI agent or sister to get. Your face drained of color and you would've collapsed if it weren't for Hotch holding you up. Athena was also there when she got the news and you two comforted each other.
Once you got over your shock you really dived into your work not stopping to do anything. "Ok so we know that he keeps them for a total of 2 days. He usually abuses them, sexually assaults them, strangles them, and slits their throats post-mortem. He then dumps them naked in the local park. He used to have a partner but doesn't anymore so it's going to be harder to dump them." You said pacing around thinking. You turned to Rossi "Did it say where May was taken from?" You asked.
"Y/N." He said and you looked at him with a look you've never given them before and it scared them.
"Where Rossi?" You said sternly and he looked at Hotch and he nodded.
"Coming out of the 911 dispatch center." You could've sworn you felt your blood boil.
"Wasn't Detecive Lou with her?" You asked incredibly annoyed.
"Yes there was but they found him knocked out where the cars were. Cameras did show that a black Toyota Corolla stop and the unsub got out and knocked him out and pushed May into the car." Hotch said.
"When was she taken?" You asked sternly
"This morning after her overnight shift." Reid told you
"Does Bobby know?" You asked looking at Athena who had just walked into the room when she heard commotion.
"No he doesn't." She said and you looked at Hotch.
"Go tell him in person. You need to cool off." He said tossing you the keys to the SUV and you stormed out and got into the SUV and drove to the firehouse.
You arrived at the firehouse and blew past several people until you got to the kitchen. You looked him straight in the eye "May has been taken." You could see the color drain from his face.
"When?" He asked "What are you doing here?" He asked again.
"This morning after her overnight shift. They sent me to tell you because I was starting to snap at people. Hotch told me to." You said and he nodded. Just then your phone buzzed. You looked at the message it was from Garcia she gave you the address "1157 California Lane. Is close to here right?" You asked looking up at your father.
"Yea it's about 20 minutes away from here." He said, and you rushed down the stairs with everyone following they watched you throw on your Kevlar vest and then get in the SUV before any of them could say anything and speed off sirens blaring. As you were driving you got a call from Garcia.
"Hey you're on with everyone else including Athena and the 118." She said and you didn't say anything.
"We're right here with you Sweetheart." Your dad's voice came through your phone.
"I'm almost there." You said
"You wait for backup. Understood?" Hotch said and you didn't say anything too busy grinding your teeth "Agent Nash. Do you understand?" He asked again voice going authoritative.
"Understood." You said teeth clenched together.
"Good. Here is the plan. When we all get there we'll all go in together and get May put safely." Hotch said and you knuckles tightened until the turned white. You knew you needed to follow orders but you didn't like it.
They continued you talking but you tuned them out when you arrived at the house. You switched your phone to your comm. You hated waiting. Just then a scream came from the house and you couldn't wait anymore.
"Hotch I can't wait anymore I'm going in." You told them.
"Just wait for backup. We're 10 minutes out." Morgan said and you shook your head.
"10 minutes is too late. I can hear screaming." You said getting pissed.
"Y/N, Sweetheart. Just hold on a little longer. I know its hard and it hurts. We're 8 minutes out." Athena said and again you shook your head.
"Y/N please listen to them. We're almost there." Buck's voice came through and you closed your eyes you wanted to listen.
"Agent Nash. Stand down." Hotch said but you needed to go now.
"I'm sorry, I'm not waiting anymore." You said and got out and ran to the door. They were screaming in your ear but you ignored them.
You got to door and tried the knob and it opened so you pushed it open and quietly walked in. You cleared each room one by one. Until you got to the basement and then May screamed again and that had your aderline pumping and walking down the stairs. You say May and you started to walk to her she had blood coming from a cut over her eyebrow and brushing on her temple along with a cut. She also had some signs of strangulation.
"Y/N/N?" She asked looking up and you nodded you holstered your gun.
"Yea it's me. We're gonna get you out of here." You said and spoke in your comm.
"I have May. I-" you said and then May stopped you.
"Y/N/N behind you!" She said and when you turned around the unsub, Jackson Phillips, was behind you with a 2x4 and he swung it and hit you across the temple. It had knocked you down and your vision was disoriented. You saw him coming for you and you used the wall to help yourself up as he took a swing at you, you ducked and he hit the wall and you stumbled forward holding your head. He grabbed your shoulders and pulled you up and punched you in the face. You need to fight back and so you did. You took a swing and successfully hit him across the face knocking him to the side.
"Jackson Phillips we can work this out." You said
"Oh no. Working it out with you people means guns." He said and stood up and rushed you. You stepped aside and he quickly recovered. This went on for about 3 minutes and both of you were pretty beaten up. He grabbed a knife and got some good cuts and stabs in you but you quickly disarmed him and then he grabbed a gun and you quickly upholstered your gun.
"One last chance. We can work this out and I can get you a deal." You said standing up in front of May to protect her and labor breathing. He raised his gun.
"I'm not going back to prison." He said and both of you fired two shots. One of his hit your shoulder and the other just below your vest. Both of yours hit his chest successfully but somehow he was still alive but barley hanging on. You stumbled over to May and untied her and then collapsed. And spoke into your comm.
"Suspect is contained. I'm gonna need a medic." You said and your words were slurred.
Then everything turned black. You didn't hear May's pleas for you to wake up or the pressure she had on your wounds. You felt nothing.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Everyone could hear what was happening and it was breaking their heart. They drove as fast as they could. Buck, Bobby, and Athena were taking it the hardest.
They heard you fight with the unsub they heard every hit and every word.
"Y/N/N behind you!" May shouted and they heard you grunt in pain and then hit something metal. "
Jackson Phillips we can work this out." You said sounding out of breath.
"Oh no. Working it out with you people means guns." He said and more punching and throwing around could be heard along with grunting.
"One last chance. We can work this out and I can get you a deal."
"I'm not going back to prison." He said and both of you fired two shots. Everyone’s eyes went wide and they drove faster.
"Suspect is contained. I'm gonna need a medic." You said and your words were slurred.
Bobby had his head hung. Buck was looking wide-eyed. Athena was gripping the steering wheel. Hotch, Emily, Reid, JJ, and Rossi were in shock and afraid for their youngest member's life. They could hear May shouting out at you but you didn't respond.
"Y/N, please! Wake up! You can't leave!" She said but got no response back and they heard her start sobbing.
Everyone arrived and the BAU rushed in along with Athena and the 133 paramedics. Two other ambulances, 133 and 136, had arrived with them. Jackson Phillips was still alive but barley there. They loaded him up as Athena put cuffs on him and then the gurney "Keep him alive I want see him charged for murder and attempted murder of a federal agent." The 133 paramedics nodded and took off with him. Along with another officer to stand post at the room. The other suspect was healed and in prison already.
Emily had removed May with the help of JJ, she didn't want to leave but she knew she had to they took her the 136 ambulance to have her checked out. Hotch was bending down next you and putting pressure on. "Y/N, can you hear me?" He asked but you didn't respond. Chimney and Hen came down with a backboard. They started to put the pulse ox on your finger and hook you up to the heart monitor.
"She has a pulse but it's weak and her oxygen is dropping. We need to move her fast." Hen said and they all nodded and Hotch and Morgan helped them get you onto the backboard and helped them out of the basement and then onto a gurney. They got you into the ambulance and Bobby climbed into the ambulance. Chimney put an oxygen mask on your face as you started to come to and lolled your head the side and saw your dad there.
"Dad?" you asked slurred and he looked at you and you held your hand out to him for him to take.
"I'm here, Sweetheart." He said with tears forming in his eyes.
"Did I get 'im?" You asked eyes wanting to slip closed.
"Yea, Sweetheart. You got him." He said stroking the back of your hand. Then your grip loosened and fell out of his and your eyes rolled into the back of your head and your head lolled to the side as the heart monitor started to go crazy.
"She's flatlining!" Chimney yelled out and started to take your vest off and Bobby helped. Once it was off Chimney started to do chest compressions and then Bobby spoke up.
"Don't you leave me, Sweetheart. I can't lose you." He said and that seemed to work because your heartrate came back your eyes began to open.
"Hey, welcome back." Chimney said just as soon as they pulled up to the hospital. They got you out and wheeled you in and gave you off to the doctors "She codded in the ambulance once but came back." He said and they nodded. Now they had to wait.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
3 hrs. that is how long it took for you to be in surgery to repair some major wounds and remove the bullets. 3 hrs. is how long you spent fighting to survive. 3 hrs. is how long everyone had to wait nervously in the hospital waiting room. 3 hrs. is how long Buck had to wait for an update for the love of his life. Everyone had changed but Athena since she had to work still. Michael, David, Harry, and May were at the hospital as well waiting. Athena had arrived and spotted Bobby who was talking to Hotch and the rest of your team. "Any word?" She asked and they shook their head.
"No, not yet." Bobby said and she was about to sat something when your doctor came out and Bobby looked over and nodded his head.
"Family of Nash." Bobby, Athena, and Hotch walked over.
"I'm her father and this is her mother." Bobby said and pointing to Athena.
"I'm her boss." Hotch said and the doctor nodded.
"I'm Dr. Summers. I was Agent Nash's surgeon and doctor. We lost her twice on the table but she his stable now. I want her to stay here for a few days just to make sure she recovers well. You can see her but if she starts getting overwhelmed I recommend limiting her visitors." She said and they nodded their heads understanding "She's in room 555." She said and they thanked her and she was on her way.
They went over and told the others and everyone sighed in relief. Buck even collapsed in the chair. "We want to limit the people she sees to at least three." Bobby said and they nodded.
Hotch, Bobby, and Athena went first. They walked up to the room and looked through the window. They could see the brutal attack you went through. They walked in and you looked over to them. "Hey." You said weakly.
"Hey, Sweetheart." Bobby said for everyone.
"May?" You asked scooting up and groaning in pain everyone rushed to help you.
"She's ok, thanks to you. A little bruised and some cuts here and there but ok." Athena said and gently grabbed your hand and rubbed it. You smiled and then turned to Hotch, he knew what you were asking.
"They want you to stay here in the hospital for a couple of days. I also want you to take some time off and recover. You're not going to be able to fly for a few weeks so I thought you could stay here." He said and turned to Bobby and Athena.
"Of course. You don't even have to ask. It would be great to catch up." Athena said and you smiled so it was settled you'll be staying home for a couple of weeks.
Everyone visited you but Buck. You were a little sad but put up a wall and masked your feelings. You were just about to go to sleep when Buck knocked on your door and walked in and you smiled.
"Buck." You said his name and it brought chills up his spine.
"Hi." He said and walked over and sat down by your bed and you looked over to him "You gave me, well everyone, a scare." You smiled.
"Sorry about that." You said and chuckled but then groaned in pain and Buck jumped up.
"Are you ok? Do I need to go get a nurse?" He asked and you waved him off.
"It's ok. I promise." You said and he sat back down.
"Listen Y/N I really like no love you. I have ever since I laid eyes on you but never made a move. I was young and naïve and you were just visiting from Quantico. I want to be with you even if it is long distance." Buck said and you thought about it.
"I've always loved you Buck. You never seemed interested so I never went for it. You just never seemed to pay attention to me or knew I existed. I really do love you Buck but you're with Taylor and I don't want to get in the way of that." You said and before you knew it or continue his lips were on yours and you were kissing him back. You only broke apart when air was needed "Buck. What about Taylor?" You asked and he shook his head.
"I don't want her. I want you and only you. I'm going to break up with her when I leave here." He said and you nodded. He sat down and you two talked in a comfortable silence. Bobby and Athena walked back in, they had decided to stay with you until you were ready to leave. Buck left but not without giving you a kiss and a wink.
Bobby and Athena started asking 20 questions and you couldn't help but smile. This was the family you had been missing but you loved your job. Buck and you were finally together and everything was right now. Yes your job was dangerous but you loved it and wouldn't give it up for anything. You couldn't wait to start your recovery with the people you love.

Athena x Daughter!reader - your support
Tumblr media
Heya please could I request a Athena x daughter reader where Thena finds about her self harm and helps her clean them and comfort them ? -Anon💜
TW: mentions of self harm
You had been trying to hide these for months, doing anything you could to avoid showing any sign of what was going on.
You wore longer sleeves, more hoodies and jackets, slowly introducing them so it didn’t seem weird or suspicious.
You would only do it when your mom wasn’t home, when you knew you wouldn’t get caught, and this was one of those nights.
She had gone out with some friends, and you were sat in the bathroom, tears running down your face as you looked at the mess you had made.
You hate this, you hated that you felt like you needed to do this but you couldn’t stop either.
You sighed, looking at the doorway and you immediately froze when your eyes connected with the familiar brown ones you knew all to well.
“Mom…”
“Baby what have you done…?” She whispered.
Athena slowly came in, crouching down in front of you as tears streamed down your face.
“What have you done..?” She asked again.
“It’s not.. it’s not threatening..”
You whispered.
She looked around you at the mess, the blood on the floor, the towel, the medical supplies and the object you had done this with.
She picked it up, getting up she wordlessly flushed it down the toilet and you couldn’t bring yourself to look at her.
Athena crouched back down, looked at you avoiding her gaze.
“Why.. I don’t.. why would you feel like you have to do this..?”
You didn’t reply.
“Give me your arm.”
You shook your head, holding it closer to your body.
“(Y/N) grant I swear to god you better show me your arm now or so help me…” she warned.
Athena wasn’t angry at you, she knew how that came across but she wasn’t made at you.
She was scared, and she needed to see if you needed medical help or not and she couldn’t risk you hiding your arm from her.
You reached out your arm and she carefully took it, inspecting it before she started to clean the wounds and tending to them.
“Mom I can do it..” you whispered.
“I’ll do it.” She said.
You nodded weakly and you looked up at her, tears running down her face as she help you.
Once Athena was done she stood up and held her hand out to you.
“I’ll clean this up later, come on baby.” She said softly.
You let her help you up, and take you to her room and she sat you on her bed, and she began to pace up and down.
“Are you angry?” You asked quietly.
Your mom stopped pacing and she walked over, sitting next you she placed her hand on the side of your face, making you looked at her.
“I’m not angry, of course not. I’m just … I’m upset and scared.. why would you do this to yourself..? My sweet babygirl why would you scar your skin?”
You rested up again and you threw you arms around you mum and she quickly hugged you back, her tears soaking your shoulder.
“I’m so sorry mom! I.. I wanted to stop..!” You sobbed.
Athena ran her hand up and down your back, kissing the top of your head.
“I don’t want to loose you (Y/N)…”
You kept crying, apologising again and again and again to her.
Because you didn’t know what else to you, you couldn’t take back what you had done, you knew that.
Athena held you in her arms.
“Tell me why you did this.”
You nodded and pulled back as you began to explain everything to her and she sat there patiently listening to you explain it all.
Once you were done she took your face in her hands and titled your head up to look at her.
“You are beautiful. You are strong. You are smart. Yo are so loved. So, so much. I’m gonna help you okay? We’re gonna get through this together, me and you, got it?”
You nodded your head and she leant forward, kissing your forehead.
“Get some sleep, I’ll be back in a few minutes alright?”
“I love you mom.”
“I love you so much.” She smiled softly.
You crawled under the covers of her bed and watched her leave.
Athena leant against the wall as she let her tears fall down her face again, and she tried to compose herself once more for you.
You needed her to be strong right now, you needed her support

Part: 10/10
“I desperately wanted to hate what I could see growing before my eyes, whilst I felt the sting of bitterness deepening within the very depths of my soul.
I was being pushed but I just couldn’t hate such tender love, pure and healing those festering wounds within you both. I knew there was no way forward. This was my out and I had to take it before those dreaded dark seeds blossomed. I could not be the one to tear down love as beautiful as yours.”
The sound of silence was almost deafening in how all-consuming it was, as you stood straight ahead. You had brought the axe down hard, cutting the conversation dead in its tracks. What else could be said after such a heart-breaking confession left your cracked lips? Your mouth was dryer than the Sahara desert as you waited for the oppressive atmosphere to pass.
You would have regretted the moment those words crossed your lips if they had been a falsehood, a lie to distract from the truth. However this was your reality, this was how you truly felt. You watched as Bobby’s hope deflated as he began to disappear into himself once more. This cut deeper than anything else, as you witnessed his confidence and self-worth shattered into a million differently shaped pieces. This was now what you wanted but a by-product.
No matter how you phrased it, no carefully thought-through planned statement could have stopped the blunt force of agony that swiftly followed. It was a hard pill to swallow but you couldn’t skirt around what this was. This was the end of the road when hearts got broken, where feelings were pushed out of the way for the cold harsh light of day. This was a break-up, one that had been long coming. You had heard the deafening sirens in the distance but ignored them for as you as possible. You had wanted this to work, you had wanted them in your life as your romantic partners.
This was failure plain and simple, no matter how it was presented even neatly with a bow tied on top. This attempt at an unconventional relationship, a throuple had crashed and burnt in a way that you hadn’t given a second thought to. Yet here you were with an increasingly despondent Bobby. Athena had held steadfast to her second amendment rights, falling silent and staring anywhere to avoid your gaze.
You felt as if you had been caught with your hand in a cookie jar when you had been told no treats before dinner. At this moment, shame and guilt were the most prevalent emotions but shades of regret and the anguish of waking up alone tomorrow were starting to manifest, mixing in. The weight of this new dawn was unlike what you had experienced before. You had navigated through both messy and amicable breaks but this felt beyond different.
This would be a whole new scenario to manoeuvre through, the various twists and turns that encompassed the maze that you standing in with walls that stretched as far as the eye could see. Your reality had somewhat shifted, changing the illusionary location rapidly. In a blink of an eye, the interrogation room melted away. This was what your mind replaced it with. An inescapable maze, that you rushed through but constantly failed to find the correct path that would lead you out.
This was your anticipated worst-case scenario in one way but yet things were not playing out as you initially imagined. It was a hell of a lot worse than anything that your twisted mind would conjure up. You should feel relieved as the pressure on your chest was finally released as you spoke what had been lingering in the back of your mind. That dejected look in Athena’s eyes stung more than ever thought it might as if that knife you used to cut the thread connecting you to them had been turned around and thrust into your chest.
It twisted left then right, damaging just enough with each turn of the wrist knowingly to leave a mark behind. A reminder whenever you dared to glance into the mirror at your reflection. There it would be, a figurative wound, raw and never truly closing for all your days to come. A fractured heart, aching to be healed but the missing piece could never be reclaimed. This was the price too high that would be paid here and now. The piper was calling and this was your reply.
What else was there to be said? The ball was in their court, you just needed to be patient and wait to see what happened next. Bobby Nash, Fire Captain of Firehouse 118 stood off to one side contemplating how small his world had just become. In a few short minutes, his happy little world had frozen over as feelings of failure, inadequacy, confusion and grief overtook his peripheral vision. Sliding over him like the visor clicking down on his helmet.
This felt like a step to the side, not a step backwards into the darkness. He wasn’t alone in his despair this time. He had a partner along for the ride-sharing the load as he felt Athena slide along before placing her hand into his. An act of comfort, this was what he needed. Tears would come but not quite yet. He had cried enough for more than one lifetime. Athena barely contained the sorrow as it quelled beneath her simmering fury.
The storm had come and gone, brushed aside in the heat of the moment. A numbness soon followed, settling over the two of them as they took their first steps back into the world, their hearts bruised and cracked but holding firm. Knitting the threads that held them together tighter than before. This had tested them, pushing them to the edge, only to pull them back again.
One where things hadn’t worked out when they tried taking a different path, was by inviting one another in and opening up their cosy relationship. It had been one hell of a ride, where flames of passion smouldered. However, ultimately the spark dimmed as that once fierce blaze cooled down until three had disappeared right back to the beginning. Where a couple stood there, watching as the third left.
Had the right person stumbled in at the wrong time? This bizarre thought dared to cross his mind. Maybe this was simply poor timing and ill planning. He had nothing but time to run all the questions, the what-ifs and the rabbit holes that it might lead him down. Athena would be there to set him straight when he’d evitable delve too far into the depths of his mind, becoming lost in the dark. She would be the light to emulate the path hidden from his sight.
This was both the end and a new beginning. It would be an uphill battle, only this time he would have someone else along for the ride. “This was never the plan when Athena and I opened up our relationship, to invite you in you for a time and then to push you right back out into the cold” He started as he worked through his thoughts, trying to vocalize his rapidly shifting feelings.
He was everything all at once. A perfect storm locked away in a glass flask but the fierce winds were steadily calming. Athena was another story together as she had remained tight-lipped. All her words were locked away in a vault, under lock and key. There was no doubt that she would make one hell of a poker player, as she masked through each time she bluffed about the cards in her hand. Winning round after round with ease. Burning holes in various pockets and wallets like a seasoned pro. This was different, this was her vanishing beneath her mask and simply walking away.
Storm Athena had vanished in a blink of an eye but was it for the better? That would be the question you were battling with in the days to come. Overanalyzing all the little details of this moment, trying to find sense and logic in her actions. Trying to almost read what was happening within, to hear those precious few thoughts that indicate her next play, the steps that she would inevitably take.
Would things ever truly be amicable? You hoped that would in time but that’s all you could do. Hope that the day would crest over the horizon sooner rather than later but you wouldn’t push. They deserved all the time in the world as the walls sheltering their little piece of paradise began reconstruction. As their battered and bruised hearts started on the next stage of their healing journey without you. Athena, I know that you don’t want to talk to me. Hell, I don’t expect you to even respond or read this but please know that I never meant to hurt you or Bobby. I saw the door start to close.
I should have tried harder to reach out, to be heard but we are long past that. I don’t know if I’ll be back this way but please know that I did cherish the time that I was there standing toe to toe with you and Bobby. I would never want to stand in the way, have that loving affection turn sour and embittered by the very experience of having a front-row seat to a show that slowly capsizing.
You deserve better than this, you both do. The dear John letter was a stupid and careless idea that I never thought all the way through but please know that I will never freeze out the lines of communication if you ever think of me and want to reach out for that long overdue talk. I will say this one last thing,
I did deeply care about the pair of you, you meant the world to me but this was not our time. This was not ours around but it is yours and Bobby’s. I saw that secret smile whenever you locked eyes with him and vis versa. A love story in motion but I was grateful to have been a part of it. I wish you nothing but all the happiness in the world for all that is to come.
Clicking send hadn’t been the hardest part, as you sat in the seat of the Grey Hound bus heading out of town. The hospital had arranged transport to the bus station then the rest had been up to you. Your one-way ticket was tucked firmly between the pages of the cheesy romance book you had picked up in the little shop at the hospital on your way out. Something to keep your mind preoccupied.
You had let yourself chuckle softly when you had first pulled it out of your bag. You hadn’t even checked the title when choosing between the limited range and selection starting up from the shelves. The three different books to choose from, you had split down the middle and just gone for door room two which had turned out to be the only romance-heavy option. It was truly karma in action, a borderline cruel reminder of what once had been yours.
An epic love for ages, well it might have been if the fire hadn’t been blown out. You had been one to finish off those embers, never once giving them a chance to reignite. Now as you sat staring out of the window watching the world rush past. A sense of conflicted peace rolled over. This was a new beginning, a chapter closing as you started on a new adventure into pastures unknown.
Whether the grass was greener on the other side, you’d soon find out as the bus turned the corner and headed out onto the freeway. You had crossed the point of no return more than once in the last few hours. Or so it felt but there was no point in looking backwards, no matter how much it hurt to admit.
Silently you muttered a single word, finally cutting the tattered remains of the thread that held you in place.
Goodbye
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been a rollercoaster of ups and downs in the years since you had last dared to step foot in Los Angeles. Both professional and personal. You pushed any thoughts of those failed relationships and the dead-end jobs that landed at your feet when you had struggled to find a home.
Home had found you when an unmissable job opportunity crossed your desk one fine day three months back. It was almost impossible to stop your fingers from typing up and updating your resume. Before you had known it, you had completed the application and clicked the send button launching into the depths of the electronic superhighway that was the internet. Regret did not follow in its wake. You had anticipated some awkwardness resonating within you but nothing occurred.
You had expected nothing to come from it, it was almost a complete shot in the dark. Yes, you had the skills and the experience in a similar field but would that be enough? As you worked your shoes off day in and day out, you had pretty much forgotten about that one particular job application sent three weeks beforehand.
You had long since concluded that if you hadn’t heard by now then you were highly unlikely to hear anything at all. You pushed forward with the daily grind. Going to work and then back home. Rinse later and repeat.
Until that one notification last thing on Friday night shook things up. An interview then a second and a third soon followed after. Before long an offer of another job, a chance to spread your wings and take flight back to the City of Angels manifested. All that you needed to do was simply say yes, well that and find a place to set up shop. Apartment hunting pre-pandemic was hard enough but this was a whole new ball game. Virtual viewings were the done thing in the post-pandemic world.
Viewing a possible home through the screen of any available device, a tour at your fingertips allowed you to go from room to room as you tried to ascertain whether this one, the third tour of the day was the one. Whether it met all your basic requirements. Was it too far from your base of operations? Was it located in a reasonable neighbourhood? Were there good transportation links into the city itself?
Question after question arose as you continued to scroll into the next room. This seemed a lot harder than all the times before when you had needed to go apartment hunting. It was turning into a headache, they all could easily be made to look rather simpler with the click of a well-positioned camera lens.
As text came through lighting up your phone screen, you paused the video for a moment. The name displayed above the message knocked you for six. You hesitated opening it, for it could easily go one or two ways. For this moment in time, you were solely existing in Schrödinger's cat type of scenario.
It could both be a harmless conversation starter, cracking open what once had been slammed shut or yet it could be something that held steadfast to the notion of flogging a dead horse. Or it be both at the same time but until you dared to look inside that box, you wouldn’t know. Without a second more to mull it over, you clicked upon it. You held your breath as the message revealed itself to your increasingly growing anxiety that bubbled within.
After all this time, Athena responded and replied to your mammoth message sent. Your olive branch to do right by her, to have the chance to sit down and talk like adults. To see if it was truly possible to let sleeping dogs lie and move forward as friends. You hated the idea of completely burning that bridge and cutting her and Bobby out of life because of your mistakes. There had been the building blocks for a stable foundation which you have decided had been cracked.
In the time since then, you had searched through every avenue of what had been. Through rose-tinted glasses, you had viewed the long hours, the lapses in replies and the never-ending chain of cancellations and rearranged dates in haste. They were a part of the daily up and downs when dating two first responders. You had acted with the emotional range of a moody teenager. You hadn’t taken the time to consider what it meant for them, who you were at the end of the day.
You were meant to be their safe harbour, away from the multiple emergencies that lingered on the other side of that door. When it slammed shut, you could have their light in the dark leading through the long nights. Instead of salving to heal their wound, you had ripped them wide out, tearing out their hearts, watching as bled at your feet when you had penned that letter without giving each of them a second thought.
It had all about you. You had changed and grown as a person since then learning more about how to navigate a relationship. The many twists and turns that came and went day in and day out and learning from your past indiscretion when it came to communication lay at the heart of every relationship. Looking back, it hadn’t been your finest hour the last time you were even in the state. You had run away, tail tucked between your legs across several state lines under you found yourself darkening your brother’s door. He had been expecting you.
Only a few weeks later than initially planned. You had kept him updated from your hospital bed, your ear red raw from his worried rants stuck on repeat like a broken record. Each time you called, He softened his tone and inclination and by the time you arrived. The once bare-to-the-bone wire-like threads that had once connected you had begun to heal, deepened as that proud man opened his heart and mind to welcome home the sibling that had been pushed away. It had been a challenging climb but he had been by your side, walking in tandem.  He had grown as a man, as a brother and as a human being.
One relationship had flourished, whilst another faded away. However this message, oh how it made your heart skip a beat. Anxious laden but still hope began to flutter its paper-thin wings as it flicked back to life.
I will not deny that your action hurt, not only me but Bobby too. It has taken me years to come to terms with how things went down. I’m ready to talk, understand and move forward completely then we can go from there.
It had been frank and straight to the point like the woman behind those words but it was a chance. One that won’t waste this go around. It was hard not to smile, to fight back those feelings that you long since buried. Soon enough those dreaded butterflies would take up residence within your stomach but you won’t let them consume you. This was a fresh start, not a blank slate.
Athena, thank you for this. Let me know when you are free to speak. I am ready to answer all the questions you have. I’m sure that there are plenty, I will be nothing short of completely honest with you
You watched the screen, waiting for those two little ticks to appear. The sign that the message had been delivered then you’d have to kill time until the colour changed from grey to blue showing that Athena had read your message. You placed your phone down as you couldn’t be glued to that device like a lovesick fool. The ball was now in her court now.
When the message arrived, it was simple. Date and time staring up at you. A question then arose in the back of your mind, who would be the one to initiate the phone call in question? However, before you could even type out a response, another message appeared. She would be the one to call you. It felt damn near bizarre finding yourself in a situation such as this. However, you’d pushed on through if it meant salvaging a relationship from the wreckage. Even if it would be nothing but wholly platonic or not in the long run.
As you typed a quick reply, you smiled softly feeling happier than you had in months, as a sense of peace washed over you as you made your way of the room. A list as long as your arm began to form in your mind of all the possibly questions that might soon be coming your way.
“It’s a start, the best that I could have hoped for” You softly repeat like mantra as you considered the next steps. Whatever they might be. The bounce in your step would come in time but still each stride no longer felt like you were walking in treacle. Weighed down with the guilt that you had long since carried upon your shoulders.
Peace was just the beginning if things truly went well. This was only the first of hopefully upon this new trail off the beaten path.
New memories to be made once you had truly arrived but you shouldn’t get ahead of yourself. One foot in front of the other, never pushing forward unless the opportunity presented itself. You finally could let go of that aching sense of guilt that hung deftly around your neck. The hangman’s noose tightened of its own accord through the day, worsening when you were lying alone at night, clock-watching until sleep overtook you.
Pushing away the persistent thought of what if, what if you could go back and change the order that events had played out. You simply couldn’t but it was in the past, finally buried when Athena knew the truth behind your actions. The why, the how and the emotions that drove your hand when drawing the next card from the deck of life.
When you drew the next one, it would be the one that changed your tomorrow into bright light that you’d lovingly thrive to keep joyfully humming in all the days that came after. Through the many ups and downs as you rode through the hard and trying times, through the days were sun shone brightest as if it was only illuminated for you and the ones you loved.
The hours seemed to rush past waiting for the sun to slip beneath the horizon. As day seamlessly melted away as night took hold. You stood silent as a mouse, staring out at the night sky smiling to yourself as innocent enough thoughts overtook as you pictured a new dawn. This was only the beginning, to gain Athena’s forgiveness, trust and friendship was a road that needed to be walked. A journey that you had started, crossing the threshold when you had offered an olive branch.
You had gained ground but that conversation was all that mattered. You wanted to make good on your promise. Tomorrow was now more than just another day, one to toil through the hours until it was time to head home. Athena then maybe one day you could bring yourself to face Bobby.
As you rebuilt your world, one thread at a time. It would not be the same as before but still, it would be home.

The clock ticked incessantly as you desperately tried to pass the time that remained before Athena returned from her shift. It was well past midnight and you had decided to keep yourself busy, so you sat alone and visibly restless on the sofa of the Grant House in the cozy living room, surrounded by a sketchbook, a novel and a laptop that was in vain tried to get your attention with your favorite series.
You mechanically flipped through the pages of a novel, trying to read a few pages and immerse yourself in the story, but your mind kept wandering and the words blurred in front of your tired eyes. The rain pattered against the window panes, the rhythm seeming to increase your nervousness. Athena had promised you that she wouldn't be home too late. But the hours passed, and each minute seemed to last an eternity, merged with the fear that something had happened to her. And with the materials around you, you tried to keep yourself busy, trying to drive away the impatience and worries that were beginning to arise within you.
Reaching for the sketchbook, you began to draw with the pencil in your hand. Lines and curves melted onto the paper and you created abstract shapes of your lover's face but it seemed to challenge you more than it ever did. Your concentration simply wasn't centered and minutes later your gaze fell back to the series, waiting to come back to life with the start of a new episode, but the screen progressively darkened until the screen saver came on.
With a sigh, you resolved to continue drawing. Perhaps your favorite feature of Athena's face first, expressing all your thoughts and feelings in detail in her beautiful eyes that flooded you every time you looked at her. But despite your efforts, time moved painfully slowly and the form and radiance did not come smoothly; the details remained half-formed in your head.
You peeked at the clock and noticed your eyelids growing heavy. The room was silent, only the gentle ticking of the clock breaking the silence. An incessant calm that only increased the tiredness. Without further ado, you decided to make some tea to keep yourself moving around the apartment.
The tea kettle whistled in your ears as you rested your head on the counter and dozed off for a moment, before pouring yourself another cup. You began to sip the hot water while staring absentmindedly out the window. The clock ticked relentlessly in your head.
To distract yourself, you turned on the music quietly, hoping the rhythm would get you going. You put down the hot cup and began to glide around the room to the beat of the music. For a moment it felt good to let the energy flow through your body, but soon your movement was lost in complete exhaustion. You fell back onto the sofa and made another attempt to focus and catch the shine in your girlfriends eyes given how they actually shone.
The sheet of paper filled with more lines and shades and you poured your feelings and longings to soon be able to see them in reality again, into this sketch. The night progressed and the tiredness continued to eat into your body. Despite your struggle to stay awake, your eyelids feel increasingly heavy. You rub your eyes and try to keep concentrating, but the exhaustion slowly overwhelms you and you lean back. The eyes closed to rest briefly. The exhaustion took over, conspiring minutes into hours.
You fought the urge to fall asleep because you really wanted to stay awake to greet Athena when she finally came home and to fall asleep with her in her arms. But your body didn't obey you and your surroundings blurred as your consciousness went against your will. Your head tilted to the side, your fingers that were gripping the pen slowly letting go and it slipping from your hand, the sketchbook sliding gently to the floor. Your head finally rested on the soft back of the chair.
Sinking into an involuntary sleep, your breathing had become calmer as you reflexively curled up on the sofa. The clock continued ticking and the rain outside was easing as the darkness of sleep took over you relentlessly. In the distance you barely heard the sound of the key in the door and Athena quietly coming in and strutting down the stairs when she spotted you sleeping peacefully on the couch.
A warm smile spread across her face as the policewoman saw the drawing she had started on the floor and picked it up. "My little illustrator," she spoke carefully before carefully placing a soft blanket over your body and placing a kiss on your cheek before sitting down and watching you. You woke up through the movement of the soft velvet beneath you and the gentle caresses on your leg. „´thena,“ you whispered with a scratchy voice, clearly seeing the silhouette of your girlfriend, smiling tiredly at the sight of her in Uniform.
„I am sorry it took me so long to come home. I had another mission shortly before I wanted to leave,“ she spoke sadly, knowing she had kept you waiting for so long. But especially without a call that she would come later. She had been completely prevented by a road closure due to a traffic accident and was unable to write you. "But now I'm back and you can go to sleep in peace."
You nodded and put your head back on the pillow before you even put your legs on her lap and she wedged them tightly under her arms until you fell asleep and she could get ready for bed. When your breathing became shallower and noticeably slowed down, Athena knew that you had drifted back into a peaceful sleep. "Sleep well, my love."
Athena was finally home, but you were sleeping soundly, surrounded by the traces of your hours-long battle against tiredness and the unbearable waiting.

Love Letters

Requested by @courtney-reagan
A Story where Bobby and Athena hold their daughter for the first time ! I really hope you like.
Also if you like my work please comment like and reblog ! It means a lot to see interactions on my work.
9 long Months. 9 months of kicks  9 months of laughter , 9 months of tears and 9 months of worrying  all lead to this moment.
This moment that took your breath away. I was able to finally able to hold my  beautiful daughter for the first time.
When I looked down at her she was so small I  was even nervous to even hold her.
 I thought of the ways I could drop her or scare her or even hurt her. But I quickly pushed away those thoughts and grabbed you.
Now that I had you I never wanted to put you back down. I felt like if I put you down then I couldn’t protect you anymore. Crazy kind of logic isn’t it ?
You are so beautiful my sweet girl. Everything about you is just absolute perfection and must I say I thank god everyday you look more like your mom then me
. You were all dressed up in the tiniest pink and white outfit. A little bow bigger than your head.
Looking down at your sleeping face there are a few things I have been waiting to say to you. I wrote them all down and rehearsed them so I didn’t forget anything I wanted to say.
So here it goes my little one,
As your dad I promise I will always make sure to tell you how much I love you. I will make sure that you will never want anything in this world.
I wish I could look you in the eye and say you won’t get hurt. That things will always be easy here on out.
But that is just not the case. I can promise that I will always be there. I will be the first to get the ice cream and tissues and we can cry it out together.
I will always be there cheering you on from the sidelines. Being your biggest cheerleader.
No matter who you choose to be in life , no matter what path you take I will always be there for you.
I love you more than words can describe my sweet little one.
You know your mom is over there watching us and listening to us right now as we speak.
Well as I speak. And as were here sharing I want to tell you the story of how me and her meant.
I can’t believe she would even look at me and decide she was going to give me a chance. Your mom is kind , can be tough when she needs to be and a complete badass.
We meet on the job. She’s a police officer and I am a firefighter. We meant solving an arson case.
 It was involving a family and their restaurant. The dad burned it down for the money. I can’t say i blame him.
You would do anything for family even thought it may not be the best of decisions. After that we worked a lot side by side together.
One day we had a pretty rough case. Your too young for that story right now. I asked her after to go to church to pray with me.
The rest is history for us. Everyday I wake up and the first thing I do is pray.
I pray and thank god I had this opportunity to have a second chance to have this amazing life. I feel like I don’t deserve it and I don’t get to be happy.
Athena taught me how to love again. To be able to move forward as best I can. Hoping to be able to start over.
The last 9 months really reminded me of that. To be able to let new beginnings happen. To be able to welcome the new and learn my best to let go.
As we sit here and hold you for the first time I look forward to the future. To all your new beginnings. Your first walk, your first words and your first kiss.
I look down at you and wonder who you will become and what you will do. All the endless opportunities laid in front you.
I can’t wait for your family to meet you. The 118 already loves you so much and your already so loved.
They brought you so many gifts. Like your uncle Buck who brought the biggest Barbie riding car they had.
“Bobby bring me baby over here” Athena yelled.
Breaking us out of our conversation.
“Yeah of course coming right over” I yelled.
I walked over and Placed You in her Arms. Athena looking down and smiling so hard. I sat down next to her.
“How you feeling you doing okay do you need anything” I asked
“I’m good got everything I need,” Athena said.
“ I never thought I would have another daughter again but I can’t imagine live without her” I said
“I know she’s the missing puzzle piece we all needed” Athena said
I looked at my girls and my heart was so full. I thank god everyday for my beautiful blessings.

Nightmares
Eddie Diaz x GN! Reader

Summary: Nightmares have never been a good thing, especially for Eddie.
Warnings: Mentions of Death
A/N: I wrote this before the most recent episode (Shh! No spoilers), so… But if I knew I would have wrote it in. Maybe in a rewrite.
Words: 1.2k words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was about 11 o’clock at night when I was awakened by my phone. I didn’t know who could be calling me at this hour, especially when everyone knows I have a deposition for a very big case tomorrow. I leaned over, grabbing my phone off the nightstand.
This must be important. I didn’t even think to look at who called before answering. “Hello,” I spoke into the phone, my voice still groggy from just waking up.
“Y/N? It’s dad,” I heard Christopher say through the phone. I quickly sat up after hearing his words.
“What’s wrong with your dad, Chris?” I asked in a slight panic.
“There are crashing sounds coming from his room, and-“ Christopher was cut off by a loud scream coming from somewhere in the background. “-and he keeps yelling like that. He locked his door, and I can’t get in.”
I moved out of my bed and quickly changed into some clothes. I was putting on my pants, with my phone sitting between my shoulder and ear, as I started to speak again. “Okay, Chris. I want you to go to your room and stay there. I’ll be there soon,” I said calmly.
“Okay,” I heard Chris say back, through the phone. And with that, the phone went silent, for a second before I heard a door close. I now knew Christopher was in his room, safe from whatever his father had going on. “Please hurry, Y/N.”
I grabbed my keys and left the house. “I know. I am,” I spoke, getting in my car. “I’m on my way.”I heard a slight “okay” before Chris hung up the phone.
Tumblr media
10 minutes was all it took for me to make it to the Diaz house. I quickly turned off the car and ran to the front door. Using my key, I opened their door and made my way in.
As I walked through the house, I walked past Christopher’s room, finding Christopher with his head sticking out. “Go back in your room, Chris. Let me calm your dad down, and I’ll be back to put you back to bed.” I placed a kiss on his forehead and made my way to Eddie’s door.
Before I could knock, a scream was heard from the inside, along with a loud crash. I placed my fist against the door and knocked. “Eddie?” I asked in a motherly voice. It was silent.
I tried the door, but it was locked, so I knocked again. “Eddie, open the door.” Once again it was silent. That was, until the sound of a lock unlocking was heard. I took a second before going to open the door again.
When the door opened, allowing me in, I walked into the room, and the sound of someone sobbing was heard. I maneuvered my way through the room before finding Eddie sitting against his dresser with his chest to his knees and his face rested in his arms. I walked over to Eddie, sitting down next to him.
“I’m sorry,” Eddie said through his tears.
I slowly rubbed his back to comfort him. “What happened?” I asked.
Eddie was quiet for a second before he began speaking. “You all we’re dead,” he said softly, choking on his sobs.
“Who?”
“My friends, family… you,” he mumbled. He looked up at me with tears running down his face. I suddenly felt myself begin to tear up as I listened to Eddie speak. “The most important people in my life, gone. And this isn’t the first time.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, looking at Eddie, curious by what he meant.
“I mean that before I would have dreams of losing someone, but now my dream was of everyone. We were all having dinner together when the building collapsed… I was the only one to make it out.” He paused.
I patted his back again, allowing him to let it all out. I looked at Eddie with a sad smile as he stared down at the floor. “Everyone else was gone, and there was nothing I could do,” he said a little louder.
I waited a second before saying, “Well, that was all a dream. I’m here. Chris’ in the other room. And all of your friends will be there when you get back to work. You’re not losing us.”
“Well, what if I do? What if I lose you like I lost my friends in combat?”
Now I knew what this was about. He wasn’t just having dreams about us, but about them too. The people who he fought with. The ones who had his back when he was in war. I didn’t know much about Eddie’s war life, but I knew that he found family within those people like he did me and the 118. So, I could understand why this is so hard for him.
“You won’t loose us. We will always be with you, whether it’s physically or here,” I said, pointing to Eddie’s chest, where his heart was. He sniffled, and his sobs began to slow.
“Come on. Let’s get off the floor and into the bed,” I said, helping Eddie up. We slowly moved towards the bed.
As Eddie laid down on his pillow, I began to notice something shimmering, in my peripheral vision, under the glow of his lamp. I turn and see a photo frame on the floor with broken glass surrounding it. I walked over to the broken frame, bent down, and picked it up. It was a photo of Eddie, Chris, and I at the park. The photo had a white scratch through the middle, maybe from when it fell, and the glass broke. But that didn’t stop the smile that went across my face.
“Y/N?” I heard from behind me. I turned back to Eddie. He was looking up at me with pleading brown eyes. It was almost like looking at a sad puppy. “Don’t leave,” he said. I once again gave him a sad smile before setting the photo down on the dresser and getting in the bed with him.
We laid in his bed together. I held him with his back to my chest. My arm laid across Eddie’s side and our legs were intertwined with each other’s.
A knock at the door made Eddie and I turn to find Chris standing in the door frame. “Dad, are you okay?” He asked, earning a smile from Eddie. He groans, shifting under my hold. “Yeah, Buddy. I’m okay, now.” I smile as I watch the small interaction between the two. “Can I sleep with you guys, tonight?” Chris asked. With a chuckle Eddie and I responded with an “Of course, bub.” and “Yeah. Sure you can.”
Christopher was ecstatic. He tried his best to speed walk over to the bed, and when he finally made it towards us, he got in, curling up under Eddie. I turned around so that I could lean over to turn off the light and got comfortable once more, holding Eddie in my arms. The thought of us all together made me smile. And hopefully, this makes Eddie realize that we do love him, and that we would never leave his side.
“I love you, dad,” Christopher said, sleepily.
“I love you too, bud.”

Evan Buckley Masterlist
Summary: While (Y/n) is out with Athena, she collapses and Evan and her dad, Bobby, rush to find out what happened.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
Tilting her head forward, (Y/n) pressed her temple against the cold, damp tiled wall. She could feel the water from the shower beating down against the back of her neck and it felt soothing to have tepid, lukewarm water rushing down her skin.
There was barely any swirls of steam surrounding her when the bathroom was cold and the shower was even colder. Not like the burning hot showers Evan took when he came home from shift.
Her eyes fell closed and she let the water dance through her matted hair that was stuck to the back of her neck and tickling the back of her shoulders.
One hand pressed into the wall to steady herself while her other hand dragged through her hair, keeping it pushed back and away from her face. But (Y/n) opened her eyes and tilted her head to the side when she heard the bathroom door open.
It always worried her that their bathroom was right next to the front door. If ever she was home alone, (Y/n) hated taking showers. If someone tried to break in or wandered in, she was in a vulnerable position very close to the front door like this. But she knew Evan was home today.
"Hello," She murmured quietly when the shower door opened and Evan let himself in.
Her hand dropped from her hair and her eyes closed automatically when his arms circled around her waist. But she felt the way he shivered and hissed against the side of her head when he stood under the water with her.
Evan kept his left arm tightly bound around (Y/n)'s waist but he reached his right hand out and turned the tap, heightening the temperature just a little. He was used to hot showers, especially after work, and Evan wasn't a fan of cold showers like this. Why was (Y/n) stood under cold water like that? She would make herself ill.
"Jesus baby what're you doing having it that cold?" He tilted his head down so his lips smothered her shoulder and the water battered down on his neck and slithered down the groove of his spine.
He felt the water drip down and flatten his curls and when it traced down the bridge of his nose and fell onto (Y/n)'s shoulder, he felt her shiver against him.
(Y/n) opened her eyes and looked down when she felt Evan's hands curve round from her hips to grab and squeeze at her waist. His thumb brushed up and down her skin against the water cascading down around them and (Y/n) took a sharp breath when he suddenly bit down on her neck like a vampire.
"I was boiling."
Her lips curved into a grin when Evan lifted his head from the bruise he'd just created on her neck. He leaned over and pressed his wet lips against her temple and stayed there for a few seconds, determining her temperature.
Her skin was rather warm, despite how cold she seemed to have had the shower.
"You okay?" He mumbled against her skin and leaned forward until every inch of her back was moulded up against his chest.
"I'm fine, just a bit queasy."
Taking care to be slow, (Y/n) turned around so she was facing him and dragged her fingertips up his biceps and over his shoulders until she could cup the back of his neck. Her thumbs smoothed across the side of his jaw and she smiled when his hands found her hips and he carefully nudged her back until she was pressed up against the tiled wall.
If she had been feeling more like herself, (Y/n) would of gasped or scolded him for pushing her into the cold wall that made her skin crawl with goosebumps. But the low temperature was soothing on her skin and feeling the water beat down on Evan first made it less powerful when the droplets fell onto her instead.
Most of the water from the shower trickled down the back of Evan's neck but the leftover droplets fell down his forehead and jumped onto (Y/n)'s skin.
"You sure you're good to go out today?" He spoke against her lips that were almost touching his with only a hairline fracture of space between them.
"I'll be fine, I promise." She wasn't cancelling on Athena again. They were heading out with Athena on a shopping trip and then out for tea later. Since both Evan and Bobby were at work, it was going to be the two of them having a girls day.
(Y/n) hadn't spent a lot of time with Athena recently with everyone being busy at work and she missed the woman she classed as her mum.
Her eyes lifted to scour down Evan's chiselled features and she found herself admiring him more than usual.
She liked the way the water dripped down from his pale pink lips and jumped free from his chin. Each droplet made (Y/n)'s chest tighten until she pushed her hands against his neck and pulled him down to her level. Her fingertips stayed pressed into his skin as she connected his lips down to hers.
She sucked his lower lip between her teeth and gave a little bite until Evan growled and pulled her chest up against his.
His hands moved so he had one arm wrapped around her waist and the other moved to grip the underside of her thigh. (Y/n) could feel his fingertip pinching into her skin so he had a good grip and she squeaked when he hoisted her up. He kept her shoulders pressed against the tiles and pulled her leg until she took the hint and wrapped both legs around his hips so she was sitting on his torso.
"Evan…" She muttered his name against his lips and he seemed to swallow up her moans with deep kisses and a smirk that spread across his face. "You've got to go to work soon."
(Y/n) didn't know what time it was, but she knew it would be around about the time for Evan to get changed and head out on shift.
"Hm. Think you can last without me tonight?" His voice was deeper than before and each drop of water that fell from his lashes mesmerised (Y/n).
"I don't have a choice." She mumbled back and stole another kiss from his lips.
She didn't like him working nights, she couldn't sleep without Evan in bed with her and she didn't like being home alone in the apartment. But she wouldn't be alone today, at least. She would be spending the day with Athena and since Athena wasn't on shift today or tomorrow, they would most likely spend the evening together catching up. (Y/n) could occupy herself until Evan came home from work tomorrow afternoon.
"Let's go get ready then." Evan pecked her lips and kept one arm bound around her lower waist to keep her on his hips while he reached out and turned the shower off.
As much as he wanted to stay here all morning, they both had to get ready. And he couldn't stand the shower being that lukewarm any longer.
He walked out the shower and carefully let (Y/n) unhook her legs from his hips and stand back on her own two feet. But his arm stayed bound around her waist and his lips faltered into a frown when he watched (Y/n) sway and dig her nails into his shoulders.
"Babe?"
"Queasy… don't think I'll be eating anything when we go out today." (Y/n) forced herself to smile and swiped the droplets of water from her eyes and nose.
She felt like her stomach was weighing heavy and starting to cramp, but she dind't really feel sick which was a good thing. (Y/n) didn't want to cancel today if she was sick.
"Promise to take it easy today, just come home if you don't feel good." Evan dried off and reached for the pile of clothes he'd brought into the bathroom with him while he watched his wife. He didn't like the way she leant her back up against the wall to keep her posture and balance as she started to get changed. And Evan could see the discomfort hiding behind her eyes.
"Promise."
"Good. Do you want a lift down to your dads?" Evan knew Bobby would already be at the station by now, but he was happy to swing by and drop (Y/n) off at Athena and Bobby's house on his way to work. It would save (Y/n) driving down there herself and leaving her car there to go out in Athena's car.
When she nodded, Evan leaned over and pecked her temple while he dried his hair with the towel. "Alright, let's get ready then, sexy."
***
"What about this one?"
Turning her head to the right, (Y/n) looked across at Athena and pursed her lips, shaking her head. She didn't like that shirt, it wouldn't suit either of them.
Athena nodded and placed it back on the rack, scouring through for another top that she could wear to the station party next week.
(Y/n) held her breath for a few seconds and tried to see if it would clear the building headache behind her eyes. This shop needed some aircon, the room place felt like it was on fire. (Y/n) looked up at the ceiling and tried to see if she was stood beneath a heating vent, but she couldn't see one. Why was it so warm and stuffy in here?
Her hand moved to the collar of her top and she pulled it down to try and see if it would make her feel any better, but it didn't help.
She was on fire. She was starting to sweat and her stomach was beginning to cramp until (Y/n) was finding it hard to stay stood upright.
Her hand moved to her hip and she dug her nails deeply through her leggings and into her flesh until she was sure she was going to draw blood. The tension and sharp scratch drew (Y/n)'s mind away from the dull cramps in her stomach that made her wonder if she was coming on her period or if she was getting some kind of stomach infection.
Either way, she was now starting to feel sick. They needed to go find a store with aircon and maybe get a drink and see if that would settle (Y/n)'s system down a bit. Her free hand reached out for the rack of jackets in front of her and she leaned into them and let the metal rail hold up her weight.
"Why don't we look for some shoes, we both need a few new pairs." (Y/n) swiped her hand against her forehead and cleared away a sheen of sweat while she tried to plaster a smile on her face.
When Athena nodded, (Y/n) felt grateful and relieved and she reached out for her. She let go of the rail and curled her left arm through Athena's elbow, tucking up into her side as her right hand punctured into the strap of her bag on her shoulder.
"I think we've earned ourselves a drink first."
"God yes, and some fresh air." (Y/n) waved her hand in front of her face to try and create some sort of breeze as they headed down the stairs.
She leaned her head on Athena's shoulder and let a little of her weight drop on Athena.
God, she hoped a drink would sort out her system and make her feel better. All (Y/n) wanted was to spend some time with her family and enjoy herself. She didn't want to come down with something and have to go home early and alone. Or have to drag Athena back home with her and turn into a movie night rather than a day out.
They had been out for a few hours though. The pair had gone to a cafe for some drinks before they came to the shopping centre and they had been here for a while already.
Bobby had texted them both and told them to have fun and enjoy themselves and Evan was praying for his shift to go quickly. Because Eddie and invited Evan and (Y/n) to join him and Chris at the cinema tomorrow afternoon and then go round to Eddie's place for a games night.
The last thing (Y/n) wanted was have to go home now and cancel their plans for tomorrow.
"Didn't you want to find a new watch for Buck?" Athena leaned her cheek on top of (Y/n)'s head as they finally exited the shop and went back into the main floor of the shopping centre.
The breeze swirled around them and made (Y/n) feel like she was suddenly getting a high and had become lightheaded. But the fresh air out here wasn't as cold or as refreshing as (Y/n) wanted it to be. She could still feel heat crawling up the back of her neck and licking at her skin like she was being cooked over a fire.
"Yeah, surprise surprise he broke the last one, again." (Y/n) had taken to getting Evan a new watch every now and then and she always got a guarantee on them.
Her husband was clumsy. He would fall or trip or bash about and he had forgotten to take his watch off a few times while at work and broke the links. This time he had caught his wrist in the jeep door and luckily, his watch saved him from a broken wrist but the glass on the face had smashed.
He needed another one.
"What does that boy do with them?" Athena ticked her head to the side and pointed ahead of them at a jewellery shop. They could find Evan a new watch after they had a drink. (Y/n) knew what type Evan liked and how many links he needed so it wasn't too tight or too loose.
"God knows," (Y/n) muttered back but she was relieved to head over to the food court. She wasn't too pleased at how busy it looked, though. Crowds and (Y/n) didn't work together very well.
"Okay, you find a table and I'll go order. What would you like?"
"Anything with ice please." (Y/n) didn't care what drink she had as long as she had something cold, preferably with a full cup of ice cubes tossed in. She needed to cool down before she combusted.
She felt Athena's hand on her back and a kiss against the back of her hair before they parted in different directions.
(Y/n) glanced around but it was like she was seeing her surroundings but not fully taking them in. She needed to find an empty table but her mind wasn't focusing. All she could see were gleaming white tables and a range of lime green and brick red plastic chairs dotted all around her. It looked like she was walking through hundreds of sets of traffic lights.
Finally, a table on the left corner of the food court looked to be empty and (Y/n) made a stumbling beeline towards it. She slung her bag down to the floor and dropped her weight down into a red chair that scraped horribly against the polished floor when she went to sit down.
She folded her arms on the small circular table and leaned her chin on her arm, trying to find something to focus on and look at.
There was a small wooden fence around the perimeter of the food court with lots of multicoloured, fake flowers and green vines and tissue leaves dotted around. It looked lovely, but the colours were starting to blur together in (Y/n)'s eyes as if the shopping centre was a canvas and someone had thrown a bucket of water across the paint.
"Here you go honey- are you okay?"
(Y/n) pushed herself to sit up straight and lean back in her chair when Athena came back over with a drink in each hand.
"Hm, just a bit flushed. Thanks," She took the glass of lemonade she was handed and relished in the condensation clinging to her palm and coating her fingers. Ice. Just what she needed to cool her system down and try to perk herself back up again.
Last time she felt like this while she was out, a drink and something to eat had done the trick and made (Y/n) feel better.
(Y/n) took a sip of her drink, listening to the way the ice clinked together, but she quickly set the glass down when she felt her hands beginning to shake.
She moved both her hands to her stomach and bound her arms around her abdomen, trying to take deep, calming breaths to make the sudden horrid feeling go away. Whatever Athena started to say went in one ear and out the other. (Y/n) couldn't hear her anymore. She couldn't hear anything.
The sound of the other conversations surrounding them, the clicking of heels on polished tiled floor, the various automatic doors opening and closing. The rustling of bags clashing and banging together. None of it got through over the static building up in (Y/n)'s ears. She couldn't hear any of it.
When her eyes started to blur and she couldn't see Athena properly anymore, (Y/n) tried to say her name. She tried to call out and override the panic building up in her system but all that came out was a quiet, mumbling groan.
Her shoulders slumped and her body fell forwards, crashing into the table with such a loud thud that it stopped every passing conversation nearby.
Her arms stayed bound around her waist and when her weight shifted to the right, (Y/n) couldn't stop herself from falling off her chair. She didn't feel anything when her body collided with the floor and her legs got tangled between the table and the chair she had previously been sitting on. The way her head bashed into the floor seemed to flick a switch in (Y/n)'s brain and it kickstarted her hearing and shocked her body back into action.
She stayed slumped on the floor, but she could finally hear what Athena was starting to say and she could control herself enough to whimper and press her burning forehead into the freezing cold floor.
"(Y/n)? Honey, honey are you with me?" Athena crashed down to her knees and reached her hands out to carefully hold (Y/n)'s neck and tilt her head back so she could see her.
The girl she classed as her daughter didn't look good. Her eyes couldn't open properly and Athena could see her pupils rolling towards the back of her head. Sweat flushed her exposed skin and the heat was coming off of her in waves. A light tremble had set across her system, shaking her arms against her stomach and causing her legs to jitter against the floor as she writhed and tried to move.
"Shh, stay still, let me look at you." She pressed the back of her hand against (Y/n)'s temple. She had a fever. When her fingertips pushed down over (Y/n)'s pulse, she could feel each thundering beat of her heart that was going way too fast to be considered normal range. "Can you tell me what hurts, honey?"
She brushed her thumb across (Y/n)'s cheek and tried to smile at her while her other hand fumbled in her back pocket for her phone.
When Athena lifted her head, she could feel her upper lip curling in distaste. People were starting to crowd and gather round, some were even taking their phones out and snapping pictures, but none of them were helping. Her daughter was clearly in agony and distress and all these onlookers thought it was okay to watch and gawp without giving any sort of assistance.
"You." She pointed at a woman close by who was staring and holding both hands to her chest. "Go find security and get a first-aider down here, now. Everyone else, I want you to step back and evacuate this food court. All of you, out now."
The woman in question grabbed her handbag and bolted to find the nearest person who worked here. This was a large shopping centre with two floors and thousands of square foot to cover. There would be a lot of security on each floor and they would have selected first aid workers and probably their own medics on standby for this sort of emergency.
And Athena didn't want everyone crowding round and watching her daughter while she was in distress like this, it wasn't fair. They could all leave and make room for when help arrived and stop overpowering the scene.
(Y/n) uncurled a trembling arm from her waist and flapped her hand out until she managed to grab Athena's wrist. She coiled her arm close to her chest and groaned before she started to gag. She was going to be sick.
"Alright, into the recovery position you go, honey."
(Y/n) let herself go limp and her eyes closed when Athena held her leg and her shoulders and carefully rolled her over onto her left side. She straightened (Y/n)'s legs out for her and tilted her head forward. (Y/n) could feel Athena's knees pushing into her back and her hand stayed on the back of her neck for support just as (Y/n) threw up.
"There we go," She rubbed her hand up and down (Y/n)'s arm for a few seconds, and when (Y/n) finished, Athena scrolled through her phone.
"911, what's your emergency?"
"This is seargent Athena Grant, I need paramedics to the lower level food court in the West Side shopping centre. My daughter's collapsed, she's feverish, barely conscious and she's throwing up."
"Paramedics are two minutes away and being redirected to you. What's her name?"
"(Y/n) Buckley." Reaching down, Athena started to smooth her hand up and down (Y/n)'s arm again to keep her calm and try to comfort her. But when she tilted her head down, her lips pressed together tightly and her breath got caught in her lungs. "She's starting to bleed."
Athena could see a patch of blood smeared into the back of (Y/n)'s leggings and around her inner thighs. It wasn't much or drastic, but even a small drop of blood was a bad indicator and signified that this was more than some sort of stomach bug or a sickness fever.
"E-Evan… dad," (Y/n) kept her left arm bolted tight around her lower abdomen that felt like it was on fire. But her right hand clutched onto Athena's wrist and held so tightly Athena had no choice but to lean her chest over (Y/n)'s back and arm.
"I'll call them when we get you to the hospital, honey. I promise, I'll get them to meet us there." She wasn't calling either of the boys until she knew what was wrong with (Y/n) and had spoken to a doctor first. Then she could tell them to get down to the hospital without frightening them. She had to have some answers first.
It didn't take long for the paramedics to reach them. By then, most of the onlookers and crowds were hovering just outside the fence of the food court.
(Y/n) let Athena ease her onto her back again, ready for the medics to assess and move her. And she kept one arm pressing into her waist while her other hand stayed tightly clutching Athena so she knew she was still here with her.
"It's alright, help is here now."
"Athena! W-what's happened, where is she?"
Evan couldn't catch his breath properly as he and Bobby weaved down the corridor until they found Athena.
They had only just got back off a three-hour call when Bobby went into his office and realised he had half a dozen missed calls from his wife. She couldn't tell him what was wrong. All she knew was that (Y/n) had collapsed and was now in the emergency room getting tests done.
As soon as it registered in Bobby's mind, he ran into action. He found Hen and told her she was in charge for the remainder of the shift and grabbed Evan, telling him they had a personal emergency and needed to go.
Evan glanced his eyes around the corridor but he could feel his heart jumping up into his throat. They weren't in the emergency room anymore. The receptionist had told them to go down this corridor and follow the signs for X-ray and they would find (Y/n) and Athena halfway down the corridor. But there were no cubicles or rooms here.
They were in a seemingly abandoned corridor with the X-ray department at the end of the hall and two other halls leading to the operating theatre and one leading to the MRI unit.
Where was (Y/n)?
Evan's heart thundered against his ribs when Athena pressed her hand into his chest to stop him from wandering off or going on a rampage to find his wife.
He could see she was close to crying. She had been swirling her ring around her finger which was a worry sign for her and the way she bit her lip and looked up at Evan was another bad sign. Usually he was used to his mother in law frowning at him or telling him off for doing something reckless. She never usually had a reason to be calm and gentle with him.
"She's gone into surgery." Athena looked up at Bobby as his face fell and his shoulders dropped down.
Why was his daughter in surgery? What had happened today while the boys had been at work?
"Surgery? Why?"
Athena didn't know what was wrong when she called them, all she knew was (Y/n) had had bloods taken, been put on a drip and was having scans to see what the cause of her pain was. How had things gone from that to surgery in less than an hour?
"Sit down."
Shudders jumped along Evan's back and he slumped himself down into one of the plastic chairs. This couldn't be anything good.
He watched Athena sit in between him and bobby so she was close to both of them, but Evan hated how she reached across and took hold of his hand. She was trying to comfort him and he didn't like it. Why did he need to be soothed and calmed down like this? What was she going to tell him?
"They did bloods and an ultrasound… (Y/n) was pregnant, but she's had a miscarriage."
Athena pursed her lips and tightened her hold on Evan's hand when his face fell completely.
That wasn't right. Evan would have known. (Y/n) would have told him if she was pregnant or if she suspected she was. She wouldn't leave him in the dark and not tell him. He should have stayed home this morning. He should have made (Y/n) stay home with him too and looked after her and checked if she was okay. He should have examined her better and made her see a doctor earlier.
"She didn't know, and… it didn't come away properly, she got an infection. They had to take her to surgery to remove the tissue and she will be on antibiotics so she won't develop sepsis. As soon as she's out of surgery, the doctor will come and get us and you can both go and see her."
When Evan stood up, both Athena and Bobby worried that he was going to try and bolt down to the operating room and find (Y/n) for himself. Or that he was about to turn and leave, too overwhelmed by this information to sit around and let it sink in.
Neither of them were expecting him to lash out and smash his fist into the wall with enough force to break the plaster and leave a crumbling indent.
When he did it again, hard enough to split his knuckles and splatter blood across the plaster, Bobby rose to his feet and wrapped his arms around Evan. He reeled his son back into his chest but he took a step back when Evan turned and deadlocked him in a hug.
Evan held Bobby like the world was about to crash and burn around them and he didn't know what he was meant to do.
"It's okay."
But it wasn't. How was any of this okay?
***
"Do you still feel sick?" Evan pushed the bathroom door aside and crouched down behind (Y/n) with his hands clasped together between his knees and his lips pressed into a thin line.
He didn't like seeing his wife knelt on the floor in front of the toilet, unsure if she was going to be sick or not.
He knew the antibiotics the doctors had given her weren't agreeing with her. They were doing the job clearing up her infection and preventing it from spreading or from her body developing sepsis. But the tablets were making (Y/n) feel sick and dizzy and giving her hot flushes.
"Hm. Haven't thrown up yet though."
Small mercies.
(Y/n) pressed her hands down on the rim of the toilet and tried to push herself up but all she wanted to do was lay down and curl up so she could sleep.
"Good. Come here baby." Evan cupped his hands over her hips and stood behind her, gently turning her around until she was facing him and he smiled softly when (Y/n) leaned forward. She tipped her forehead down into his chest and gripped his biceps tightly to keep herself upright.
"You don't have to carry me, you know."
(Y/n) didn't want to rely on Evan like this. She didn't want him to have to help her up and down the stairs and do the cooking when they usually shared the jobs around the apartment. She didn't like relying on him like this.
"I want to. You're not well, so I'm gonna take care of you."
(Y/n) let herself go limp so Evan could move her easily. He cupped her wrists and lifted her arms to curl them around his neck. Then his hand moved down to hold her chin and let her chin rest on his shoulder as he leaned down to be level with her.
His hands cupped the back of her thighs and he lifted her up with ease, securing her legs around his torso so she was sitting on his hips. He kept one arm around her bum and his other hand cupped the back of her neck as he leaned to smother his lips against her temple.
It wasn't as if (Y/n) was asking or forcing Evan to look after her. He wanted to. He wanted to do whatever he could to look after his wife and nothing she could say would change his mind on this.
He headed out the bathroom and walked slowly towards the living room where they had been laid all morning. For the last two days since he brought (Y/n) home, they had been cooped up in bed. But Evan thought it was better to stay downstairs now so (Y/n) was closer to the bathroom if she felt sick and be near the kitchen for drinks and food.
And he knew Bobby and Athena and probably Maddie would be popping round in the next few days. They had all agreed to give the couple a few days alone together and Evan told them he was fine looking after (Y/n) on his own. But he knew they would want to see (Y/n) now and check she was okay and on the mend.
When he reached the sofa, Evan dug his hand into (Y/n)'s thigh and kept her secured on his hips so he could turn around and ease down onto the sofa with (Y/n) on his lap.
He slouched down and propped his feet up on the coffee table, loosening his arms enough so (Y/n) could move around and get comfy. She shimmied so she was sat on his lap, her legs stretched out across the other side of the sofa and her head tucked back into his chest. He could feel her breaths fanning through his shirt while her arms stayed curled around his neck and he just knew she had her eyes closed.
With his right arm curled around (Y/n)'s waist, Evan tilted his head to the side and moved his other hand to her shirt.
He liked the fact that (Y/n) was living in his clothes since they came home. She was wearing his loungewear shorts and plain grey shirt that slipped off her shoulders.
"Can I?" He murmured softly and when (Y/n) nodded, Evan rolled her shirt up and feathered his fingers across her stitches.
She had two small incisions in her abdomen with three stitches on each to keep them together. In two weeks, the stitches should dissolve naturally, but Evan wanted to make sure they weren't coming loose or becoming infected.
"They don't hurt, do they? You don't feel too bad?"
"I'm okay." (Y/n) feathered her fingers up and down the back of Evan's neck, but she felt the way he tensed. And the way he sighed as he kissed her temple told her he either didn't believe her or wasn't happy.
"You had surgery, that doesn't class as being okay." Evan kept his lips against her temple as he pulled his hand away from her stomach to cradle the side of her face. "I could have lost you."
He let his body slouch down and tipped his head forward until his nose was buried in her hair and his lips were merged against her temple.
If (Y/n) didn't collapse when she did, if her infection went unnoticed for a while longer, they wouldn't be sitting here. Evan might still be sat in the hospital holding her hand and praying she would pull through. She could of gotten sepsis from that infection and she could of been seriously ill or even dead by now. And Evan had no idea.
He had no idea she was that ill or that she was pregnant or had lost a baby she had no idea about.
Evan didn't like it. He wanted a sign. He wanted to know if he had missed the signs, if he should of been looking out for signs to tell him his wife wasn't well. He should of looked after her better so she wouldn't have needed surgery in the first place.
"But I'm here, Evan… just without a baby, this time." (Y/n) moved her hand from his neck to cup the side of his face and drag her thumb along his jaw. She pushed up from his chest and pressed a slow, tender kiss against his freshly shaved cheek as he tensed beneath her. "I'm s-"
"If you're about to apologise, we're gonna fall out." Evan tightened both his arms around (Y/n)'s middle and pulled her tighter into his chest until it felt like she was about to suffocate him.
He didn't want her apologising. Not when she hadn't done anything wrong. (Y/n) couldn't help getting sick, she couldn't help miscarrying or the fact that she didn't know she was pregnant and Evan would fall out with her if she tried to apologise to him or anyone else for something that wasn't her fault.
"Just wish I knew, you know? I might of gone to a doctor if I knew, I wouldn't of caused such a scene-"
"Baby, you didn't cause a scene, you were ill. I don't want you saying sorry or thinking like that. This shit just happens, but it's not happening again. I won't let it. If you're pregnant again, we'll know and it will go smoothly."
Evan was taken by surprise when (Y/n)'s hand moved to his jaw and she tilted his head in her direction so she could steal his lips in a kiss.
The touch was sudden but welcomed and inviting and Evan pulled her lower lip between his teeth and drank her in. He panted against her lips until he was seeing stars and the noise from the tv turned into nothing but background static.
And when (Y/n) pulled back to try and gasp for air, Evan cupped her wrist and moved her hand up from his jaw to loop it around the back of his neck again. (Y/n) scratched her nails against the short hairs at the back of his neck until Evan was clenching his jaw and leaning into her so there was no space between them. And his lips found hers, stealing them away.
(Y/n) could feel herself going lightheaded again, especially when Evan seemed to draw all the air out of her lungs and gulp it down for himself. His warm lips smothered hers and bit her lower lip until he was going to leave a bruise in his wake, but (Y/n) didn't care.
All she wanted was to stay wrapped up in Evan's arms. Forever.
