I can't stop thinking about the gifts the "dark" sides gave, how all of them were so clearly for the person receiving the gift but also so clearly from them

They all gave gifts that included things they had in common with the person or had something very personal to that person but that also spoke to their identity

Virgil gave Logan the ARG cause he likes to playfully haunt/scary the other sides and he likes mysteries and scary stuff. Cause Logan likes solving puzzles and challenging himself. Cause they both know what is like for people to not quite understand who you are and reduce your identity to just one or two superficial traits.

Janus with the russian doll gift boxes, cause he likes playing with people (and their feelings lets be honest), cause both him and Patton like gags/pranks and cause Patton likes personal heartfelt and genuine gifts so much more than he would ever like some expensive gift.

Remus gave "Mr. Fuzzy" cause he likes spending his time making weird gross stuff, cause both him and Virgil like scary stuff (and maybe both have a tendence to see scary creatures as cute or endearing), also Mr. Fuzzy kinda looks like a spider or is it just me? And he knows Virgil likes to have comfort things that he can keep around, like plushies. Even the reference to their shared past could fall into this.

I think its all very symbolic of their whole acceptance arc. They will try to connect with the others and find a middle ground but they're never going to stop being themselves

A bit late, but rereading the transcript for tmagp 10 and it got me thinking, if Sam wasn’t “picked” then what makes somebody worthy of being picked? I remember the Google doc in the arg pointed towards Sam being extremely loyal and obedient, I would think those traits are desired in creating child avatars, but maybe I’m wrong.

Our Hæth: A Wanderhome ARG

Ok so if you are any sort of game designer, whether that be a programmer for a mobile app, an artist for an indie TTRPG, or a top-tier producer at a AAA-game studio, you should read Reality is Broken by Jane McGonigal, it inspires you to make games that don’t just form digital communities or entertain, but allow a deeper connection to your real life.

And one game that I think, with a twist, could really fit McGonigal’s idea is Wanderhome, the excellent pastoral RPG by tumblr’s very own @jdragsky . This game is beautiful, simple, and a tool for telling these lovely stories about anthropomorphic travelers exploring a recovering society and finding themselves along the way.

Now, let me introduce my idea, tentatively titled Our Hæth: A Wanderhome ARG.

You make a Wanderhome character, just like in a typical game. You also make a separate Wanderhome profile that represents yourself. (this can be your actual Wanderhome character if you want to take on an alternate persona). This secondary Wanderhome character doesn't actually travel the Hæth. They represent your journey in the real world. Your second character's playbook should fit yourself and what you hope to get from this experience. My secondary character will be a Peddler, because I want to grow my personal career.

Then you get connected to a Hæth. These are shared worlds/servers that begin like all Wanderhome games (at the start of Tillsoil very soon after the end of the war) and progress from there. You can start with other players or begin on your own and find others later.

When you wish to travel to a new area, instead of randomly deciding what it should be, you base it on your current location. It can be as simple as your bedroom or as grand as the Great Wall of China! I’ll show you what I mean with where I am now.

A beautiful pond, right? Let’s turn it into a spot in the Hæth! Our first nature is based on a literal take of the area. I’m by a pond, so the first nature will be Lake! The second nature is more metaphorical; based on what you know about your location, choose a nature that describes its personality. A lot goes on around this pond, so I’ll pick Carnival. The third nature should describe the place as it is when you arrive. The calm nature of the pond today means the third nature is Field. Build the location with the rules of each nature, combined with the traits of the season, and you’ve made a Place!

In Our Hæth, each location is permanently saved into the world you created it in. If other players want to visit this location rather than create a new one, they’ll replace the third nature and the seasonal traits and set off! They can see what you’ve written about the place and the adventures you’ve had here. If you know them in real life, you can share what the real-world inspiration is. If not, you can discuss as much about it as you feel comfortable sharing.

Once you're in a Place, great! Start playing Wanderhome. If you're alone, write down what your traveler does in this place. If you're with friends, get together in person and roleplay it out, or chat together over Discord or your online forum of choice. Their characters may travel with you for a while or your paths may diverge and reconnect later. Just remember what happens so you can share it as part of your character's story. When you make a Kith, go through the regular Kith creation process and add them to your Hæth. If other players visit this Place later, they may meet your kith and will want to know what happened.

The other big ARG element of this version of Wanderhome comes with using tokens. When your character does something to create a token, you need to do something to make a token in real life. Have a list of what different actions in Wanderhome mean for you in real life. For example, when my character Camper gives away something he holds dear, that means I have to complete some professional networking. Your token action should be challenging or good for you. Change your token action as your challenges and needs change. Make them fit your life and your goals.

Take a break to complete your token action, or write it down for after the session. You won't be able to spend your real-world token until you complete your task. Once that's done, the next time your character spends a token, you can spend one too! Your token rewards are something positive to reward yourself for putting in the effort and caring for yourself, your relationships, or the world. In my Hæth, when Camper keeps someone safe from the difficulties of the world, I get to take a nap rather than work!

The months can change in small groups when you agree to change them. In bigger groups, you may set a real-world date for the change in the months. Ask the month's question to yourself and your Wanderhome character. Consider your answer a "yes" regardless of which one of you says so. When the time comes for the seasons to change, set up a party with others in your Hæth or throw your own private celebration. Just as the holiday marks a moment of personal growth for your character, take a major step forward with your own goals. As Camper celebrates the new year, I'm going to start searching for a summer internship. I'll adapt my token actions and rewards as needed, and I'll continue playing.

So long as you have Wanderhome, you can play this game. You can keep track of your Hæth in a notebook, on a google doc, whatever. My perfect version of this project would be a little website where players can join different Hæths, watch their world grow on a virtual map, see all the information neatly organized online, and connect to a wide range of people in the Wanderhome community.

Why Preston/Clone Riggy is the hottest shorts wars character

Incase you probably don't know, Shorts wars is a arg made by a bunch of dudes that make shorts and was created because of the clone accounts ( get it?? ) that steal their content. Basically when it started there were different bunch of QR codes that popped up on their shorts and when our scanned them they took you to a video where a guy named The Boss in a unpleasant gradient says that if they don't quit making shorts and rotting people's brains then they will get replaced. While a few listened, The rest didn't. And the other stuff happened blah blah blah. Anyways i also gotta say one of the creators was a guy named Danno and uh he makes shorts (obviously i mean this is fucking shorts wars what do you expect??) and he has a mascot character named Riggy who is a blue rabbit with red shorts, green eyes and a very interesting kill count.

Also Preston/Clone Riggy didn't get the name Preston until he decided to get a new name on Phaleur's stream where he went through Phaleur's bag and eventually found his driver's license where Clone Riggy stole the name Preston and went with it calling himself " THE GREAT AND MIGHTY PRESTON!! "

Also sorry i have to highlight Preston/Clone Riggy's name in purple. There's no option to make the text dark blue ;-;

Anyways now with that explanation out of the way I'm here to explain why Preston/Clone Riggy is breedable and sexy.

He can breed. In a Danno short about if you can be invisible, Riggy was about to pull his pants down to demonstrate that you might have to be naked to be invisible. Luckily (or unluckily) Danno told him to NOT do that, Which basically says that Riggy might have a... Yknow. And then after that Riggy says " What? There was already Riggy rule 34! " ( i would've called this fanservice but i changed my mind ) so since Preston/Clone Riggy is a clone of Riggy then there's chance he has one. Since Danno confirmed Preston/Clone Riggy is canonically not anything other than a male so uhh that's something. But hey atleast he can insert something in me-

Alright, TMagP theory time. In TMA episode 197, we get this:

“The powers don't exist there? They're what … unique to our dimension?

Unique? Oh, I don't know about that. But certainly there are many, many worlds without them.”

Which raises the question of whether the fears are native to TMagP’s world, or if the fears escaped to there from TMA’s world. I think the second option is more likely. Chester/Norris/Augustus and .JMJ are probably Jon/Martin/Jonah and I expect TMA and TMagP will have direct ties to each other.

All of this got me thinking about alchemy in TMagP. In the arg, on the show’s logo, in episode one, on ink5oul’s Instagram account (apparently), we see alchemical symbols. Admittedly, I know almost nothing about alchemy, but the physical, chemical nature of it doesn't really seem to fit with the emotion-based magic of the fears. That leads to my main theory: the fears aren't native to TMagP's world, but something else supernatural is. Whatever it is revolves around alchemical symbols and transformations, and it didn't exist in TMA’s world the same way the fears didn't originally exist in TMagP's world.

According to the arg, the Magnus Institute “ran educational programs for gifted children and adults,” which seems weird. That also doesn't really seem to fit with fear avatars as we know them from TMA. What if part of TMagP's alchemy allows for the transmutation of people, giving them new traits and magical “gifts”. When the fears first showed up in the TMagP world, they would have wanted to learn as much about it and its magic as possible. The Eye set up the Institute to study these transmuted people, and weaponize alchemy for its own ends. Every TMagP incident so far directly involved a normal person being (alchemically?) transformed and mutated into a supernatural entity by the fears .

Is Sin like, a Christian? You’ve talked about how Ky is a certain kind of Christian recently and I know Sin has a cross, but I wasn’t sure if that was a bit or a joke? Is he praying?

Mostly I’m just confused because I see like two topics of conversation around Sin and it’s his father issues (for either of them) and him being 5. Sometimes it’s about him giving Ram a sandwich. Even if it’s not a big part of his character (he’s not Ky, after all!) it seems like it gets mentioned more as a joke so I’m not sure if it’s like a serious…character trait, I guess?

I kind of get the impression that Sin is religious but not to the same degree as Ky is. We've seen multiple instances of Ky praying or otherwise being in a Christian church (GG2Overture Material Collection and an opening scene in Lightning the Argent chapter 1, part 2 are two examples) while Sin's expression of religion has been a lot more subtle. He's wearing a crucifix in all of his designs through Overture, Vastedge, Xrd and his new Strive outfit, to begin with:

Dizzy almost definitely was not raised with any sort of religion comparable to Christianity; Ky would had to have introduced her to it and then raised Sin into it. Sin wearing the crucifix even through Overture when he was the most mad at Ky says a lot, I think, about Sin's feelings towards his religion. If he didn't have any sort of faith in it and it was solely Ky's thing, why continue wearing it?

He brings up God to Ram in Xrd Sign when trying to explain what emotions and opinions are to her:

Sin: Well, c'mon, what does "right" even mean anyway? Let's say Ky and the old man think something tastes bad, but I like it. Does that make me wrong? In a way everybody's right, see? They're right to say it tastes bad, and I'm right to say it tastes good.

Ramlethal: I don't understand your example.

Sin: Arg... How do I say this... Oh, got it! Do you believe in God?

Ramlethal: God? I acknowledge that the concept exists, and people find value in it, but without further evidence, I can't authoritatively state whether or not--

Sin: No, I'm asking you how YOU feel about it! Remember when you ate that hamburger? You had an opinion on it, YOUR opinion. Like that...

Ramlethal: I...I don't know...

Sin: You're impossible! All right, let's try something else. Look out that window.

Ramlethal: ?

Sin: [looking at the starry sky] He he. This is the real reason I'm here. Doesn't that look pretty?

Ramlethal: ...I don't know.

Sin: I think you just don't have the words to describe how you feel. See, I think that's suuuuuuuuuuuuuper pretty.

Ramlethal: Um...?

Sin: To me, that's enough. The way I feel, the way this looks... I don't want somebody trying to explain that to me with big words or fancy ideas. I just like the explanation "This sky looks beautiful because God made it that way." So to me, that would be a good reason for God to exist. Do you think that's the right answer?

Ramlethal: That's just what you WANT. It doesn't make anything real.

Sin: Maybe, but I don't think everything needs to be black and white. You don't need to shove yourself into a corner and tell yourself you have to be something.

That last bit about Sin crediting the creation of the sky to God might be the most concrete bit of evidence we have to gauge where on the scale his faith is. He's a smart kid and quick at coming up with efficient solutions to unusual problems (like telling the highly intelligent Dr. Paradigm, who is an aquatic Gear, to breathe using magic instead of maintaining a ball of water around himself), but he still attributes something as easily explainable by science as the composition of the sky to God. There's also the fact that Sol has consistently had negative opinions towards religion/God when it's brought up too. He almost definitely would have had some kind of conversation about it with Sin at one point and Sin still maintained his faith despite that.

For now I'd say it would be fair to assume that Sin is at least moderately Christian and that he's serious about it, it's not part of a joke or other setup. Maybe future story stuff will expand on this aspect of his character more one day though.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of lore discussion where Sin is involved that boils down to it all being a joke when very little of it actually is. He's lighthearted and not great at thinking deeply about complex issues unless he has to, but he's by no means a gag character. Take any post/meme that treats him as pure comic relief with a grain of salt.

Alright I’m going to run my mouth and dredge up soul lore again and say some things that's probably gonna annoy some people but I genuinely do think it’s true: basically trying to adhere to the show’s original soul lore is pointless and a disservice to every single vampiric character that’s not Angel. Because the thing about soul lore is it's simply a loophole for Joss Whedon’s original black-and-white mythology which was that he didn’t want complicated vampires. He didn’t want vampires with sympathetic/human traits or internal worlds. He didn’t want “Anne Rice crap” he wanted grrr arg scary monster vampires with cardboard personalities who aren’t human at all anymore. The only reason soul lore exists is because the network pushed him to add a vampire so he slapped a soul on angel and basically all the soul was ever supposed to be was a lil sticker that says Angel gets a pass to be a multidimensional character. That's it. And that’s fine and well so long as Angel remains the only reoccurring vampire in the show with any character development. But of course, it's pretty hard to do a good show full of monsters where you never actually tell us about who the monsters are or what their motivations are besides monologuing and villainously twisting their mustaches. That's what happens in season 2 when they kill the anointed one. By killing him they effectively kill the old flimsy archetype and after that we start seeing vampires with more traits and personalities and memories from their human life. Boom, out goes Angel’s soul and then eventually, Angel as well. Graveyard cemetery doornail dead. Double dead. Dead squared. And you know what, here’s the controversial part, I’m just gonna say it…even with the established soul lore…they probably would’ve let it go and actually amended it if Angel had stayed dead. But he didn’t. Angel came back with his soul and got his own show where he is the main character and that simply magnified the problem with soul lore because Angel has to be a very special boy because otherwise why are we focusing on him?? Why is he the main character if any old vampire can grow a personality and a conscience? And honestly they probably also wanted him to be the “one vampire in all the world.”Buffy but a Dude. And therein lies a huge source of back-and-forth and continuity errors and the writers having to cling to the OG lore even though the story has grown beyond it. Angel is gone from btvs and the growing narrative and overall character/lore development demands that you have to take a step back and look at the shades of gray, but also remember you can never be anything without a soul because Angel is on right after this. The universe shows us that vampires can grow and change and have a full continuity of self and that they are more than just simply the shells of humans with a demon inside, but tells us otherwise because of outside aspects. That's why I think trying to rigidly adhere to soul lore is pointless, because its not a well thought out established rule of the universe, its a massive continuity error that was never properly corrected and continued to mess up and confuse the universe because the creator stubbornly wrote himself into a corner from the start.

Seeing stuff like wally dosent know how to swear and other canon stuff about him makes me feel a bit werid about liking wally because he feels minor /child coded (apologies if this is not the right term) I understand that wally is autstic but this feels like "infantilization of autism" idk I just feel uncomfortable sorry if this is sudden but I want to get off my chest and please educate me if I'm misunderstanding something because since i myself am also autstic and miss stuff sometimes , and i realy wanna enjoy this arg because it has so much love and hard work put into it.

anon, with all due respect, from one autist to another: i think you're jumping to a lot of conclusions here. welcome home is written by an autistic person drawing on some of their own experiences, said autistic person has stated multiple times that all of the neighbors are adults, stuff like wally not knowing how to swear/other basic info likely has more to do with him originally being an audience surrogate on a children's show than it has to do with him being autistic or a Literal child in either mind or body, and he's not even the only autistic/neurodivergent character.

like, it's fine. blue and orange morality/ambiguous innocence/living a sheltered existence/whatever wally's got going on is not "child coding," nor is an autistic character having any of those traits Inherently infantilization of autistic people; Context Is Important. nobody's gonna hang draw and quarter you for being attracted to wally darling. It's Fine.

But jokes aside, my least favorite thing is to create a proper background for her since she's completely out of her time

The story I have now is that she is like one of those people that spend a lot of the time on the internet and she ended up finding information about the survivors (such as the earthquake that Maxwell caused, and the mysterious disappearence of the other characters), which she ended up investigating because it's a hobby of her to solve mysteries and ARGs, and that somehow ended with her getting stuck in the Constant, but I still don't have anything completely solid. She's is kind of hard to fit in the story, but still, I like her presence there because it's pretty fun to imagine a character like her interacting with the other Don't Starve characters.
