just a bit of luck your way // Self Aware Wuthering Waves (Jiyan)
Tumblr media
Pairing(?): SelfAware!Jiyan and Player!Reader
Synopsis: You're one of the many players who started playing Wuthering Waves on release and of course the main thing you waited for is pulling for Jiyan.
From Mayaree: celebrating rn coz i got Jiyan and his weapon on my first 10 pull on each banner (dont know if that's supposed to happen but still a celebration).
CW: self aware au; no concrete spoilers because i just reached a little past level 20; swearing; second person pov (you, your, etc.)
Word Count: 2.8k (unedited)
Tumblr media
Surely, surely there was something wrong with this game. You know for a fact you ain't that lucky - especially in these anime gacha games - so either there was something wrong with this game or the devs were just that giving to their players.
You had decided to play Wuthering Waves on a whim, caught up on the excited chatter you've been hearing all over the internet at its coming release. Patiently waiting for the servers to open worldwide, you sat down on your cozy chair with some snacks and a drink, ready to play. A grin ticks your lips upwards as you're taken to choosing your character.
You gotta say, the game is pretty amazing on your first run. Attack, parry, dodge. Seems simple enough. With a few fights, you were getting used to the routine and the enemies' patterns. If you had to nitpick something, though-
"This feels a little too easy." You were by no means an overly skilled player, as far as you were aware. Maybe it's because you're just barely past the start of the game, but it feels like the enemies were dying a bit too quickly. And you were only dealing like 10 damage per swing.
But just as you say it, you sit up in your chair in attention. Did… did they just get harder to kill? No, wait, you did just raise your Union Level, so maybe that's why. The enemies' attack patterns are slightly more advanced and although you're dealing more damage, their health bars are keeping up with you. Well, you were complaining earlier, so maybe this was a good thing? You keep playing, now being kept on your toes during combat.
After grinding a bit more - how much time have you spent already? Not enough, you think - you finally unlock what you've been waiting for this whole time.
The gacha system.
You're no stranger to gacha games. If anything, it's the reason you played this game in the first place. Sure the combat was nice, but what was better than collecting these prettily designed anime men and women and running around with them on the open world map? Nothing was more fulfilling than staring at your growing roster of playable characters the longer you played the game.
And for Wuthering Waves, the first addition to your would-be collection appears on the screen.
You'd be lying if you said you were going into the game blind. With the amount of Jiyan videos you've seen from the betas and leaks, you may as well have played him for a month now. From idle animations to his forte attack, you watched as many videos available as you could. And each one solidified for you that you needed to pull for him. That man was coming home one way or another.
Grinding a little more astrite by doing a couple of missions here and there - you had 1,300 astrite, just a little more for the home goal and then- you were ready. Sure it's just a meager 10 pulls but it was definitely a start. And you never know… right? You click the 10 pull button and-
OH??? SHIT, WAS THAT GOLD JUST NOW???? YOU KNOW FOR A FACT GOLD IS A GOOD THING, RIGHT??? You click through the 3-star results as quick as you can and- YEAH YEAH THAT'S HIS ANIMATION IT'S HIM HE'S HOME IT'S JIYAN!
You all but kick the chair away and bump your whole lower half on the table as you jump up in joy. You may as well be doing backflips while you're at it. You got him??? On the first 10 pull, no less???? This game was spoiling you holy shit. And it's only been a day.
Immediately heading over to the characters screen, you go to Jiyan's profile and just. Stare at him. Basking in the fact that you played this game on day 1, got the first available limited 5 star, and on your first fucking 10 pull.
Holy shit.
You scream into a pillow and hope your housemates don't hear. Or maybe they should hear because this has got to be the luckiest day of your life and you'd flex it on their faces if they understood the gacha game hype. Going back to the screen, Jiyan is doing one of his idles, twirling around his spear. My god, he looked glorious. His whole appearance was both beautiful and imposing. He looked so cool, hot damn.
"I'll be relying on you from now on, general." You grin once more and spin your chair with a whoop.
You level him up as high as you can, using all the leveling materials available at the moment. He's capped out at 20 right now because you did just start playing and still haven't unlocked character ascension, but you're willing to grind more just to raise him. You even move him to the first spot in your team (sorry, Rover, you can take the next spot).
You head on over to training, to gather some weapon and leveling materials but also because you want to test him out in battle. Damn it all, those beta videos of him didn't disappoint. He was just as good, if not even better since you're the one playing him right now.
He was definitely fun to play with. Of course, all the characters are fun to play with, but Jiyan was twice as fun. Would it be bold to say it was like you were meant to play as him? Suddenly the game is easier again. But not because the enemies are easy to kill, more so you feel like you're able to move better. You seem to be able to time dodging and parrying a lot better, even knowing when to attack at the best moment. Clearly, it was a really good decision to pull for him.
When you've grinded enough - he's level 40 now and you've fully accepted you're in this game for the long run - you go to level up his 4-star broadblade and then stop. You've saved up enough astrite for another 10 pull, right? Maybe you still have some luck left from the Jiyan pull, so… maybe?
"What do you think, Jiyan? Do I go for it?" You laugh at the absurdity of your one sided conversation. "I think you deserve your main weapon."
To your surprise, you watch as he laughs once, shaking his head and looking away with a barely noticeable smile (it's hard to tell with your gadget's graphics, but you definitely heard him). Was… was that part of his idle animations? You make a split-second decision to check his profile. Uh, no? No, it wasn't? Where'd that come from??? Well, maybe it was a secret animation plugged in by the devs. Game devs did like adding a little secret every now and then, right?
Anyways, although indirectly, Jiyan just gave you his answer. You were pulling for his weapon. You mean, there's still like 20 days left for you to pull if you don't get it right away, so there's no harm in building pity right now. Right? Right. To the gacha you go.
Breathing out - maybe a small prayer to the gacha gods in your head - you click the 10 pull button on the limited-time weapon banner-
WAITWAITWAITWAIT WAS THAT FUCKING GOLD??? AGAIN??? THERE'S NO SHOT. THERE'S NO FUCKING SHOT THAT THIS IS-
You stare at the golden glowing weapon on your screen in disbelief. A second passes, and then another as you stare at the green and gold broadblade. Verdant Summit. In the flesh. Excitement follows soon after like a tidal wave. You're off your chair in the next second again, fist-pumping the air like no tomorrow. You don't even care if your housemates hear you jumping around this time.
"JIYAN, LOOK, WE ACTUALLY GOT YOUR WEAPON!" You think you hear someone knock at your walls but you could care less right now.
When you're seated and back to your screen, you immediately equip the blade to Jiyan and stare again. Fuck, he really did look cool. With the sword, he's even twice as cool. Okay, he was hot, you're not gonna sugarcoat it. He was both in equal measure. You try swinging the blade around and breathe out in awe.
"It looks like it was made for you," you laugh. Well, surely it was. The blade was designed for him from the moment it was created, but still. You hear his little laugh again, but the animation seems to be cut short when you accidentally slash. Whoops.
When the excitement dies down, exhaustion sets in. You look at the time. Damn, it was that late? You really played the game for a whole day? Woof.
But you think it was well worth it as you watch Jiyan with his weapon in action. You finish up battling with a few more enemies before leaning back on your chair, content. Silly as it may be, you wish your team goodnight before logging off for the day.
Jiyan waits until he can't hear your voice or feel the warmth that overtakes him whenever you use him before he moves. He groans as he stretches. You really did enjoy using him to explore Solaris 3, no doubt about that. Not that he was complaining.
Far from it, really.
"Cheater." Jiyan blinks once before turning around. Rover stands there, arms crossed with a frown set upon their face. Jiyan could tell there was no real bite to their expression or words, but he still found it rather funny.
"Are you talking to me, Rover?" Jiyan's voice is calm and collected, but he can feel the corner of his mouth tick upwards ever so slightly.
"You know what you did." Rover scoffs, still lacking actual bite. It was more like teasing, if anything. "You wanted to make them happy that much?"
"Is it not possible I just wanted to visit Jinzhou for a bit? Their goals and mine simply aligned at the moment and I used the opportunity." A lie, but not quite.
Yes, he did want to visit Jinzhou. Word had reached him of the new Rover who even the Magistrate had taken a keen interest to. He wanted to make sure they weren't anything dangerous, despite the prophecy. Jué knows the last thing they need is the Midnight Rangers at the Norfall Barriers and an ambush in the main city.
But the moment he arrived, things were very different. For one, the very Rover he was so wary of ended up working with him in a small team of three. The Rover was no normal person, either. Yes, Jiyan could tell that they were strong and would be able to get stronger at a rapid pace. But they also seemed too observant. How should he put it? It felt like they were seeing something else he couldn't. Or they were seeing everything differently.
And then he felt it for himself.
Your voice is warm but thunderous, and yet it was not painful for the ears. Loud with excitement he can't quite understand. You're excited… that you have him? You even said you would rely on him from now on. He could laugh at how easy you were to please. Something so simple and you were already so happy. Maybe it's simply your emotions leaking into his own soul, but he could feel the genuine joy that you were feeling. He prides himself for choosing to come home as soon as he could if only to share in your happiness. He wanted to understand whatever it is that makes you so excited. After so much bloodshed, your joy felt like a breath of fresh air he hadn't taken in so long.
As you use him to walk around the world and fight Tacet Discords, it felt like he was seeing the world for the first time again. Maybe this is what the Rover was seeing with their observant eyes. Jiyan felt like he was experiencing Solaris 3 for the first time once again. Whenever you gasped at the sights of high cliffs and the boundless sky, he may as well be sighing in amazement with you.
"Right… Took the opportunity. Sure." Rover raised an eyebrow. "And the broadblade?"
Jiyan shrugs. "I find that I work better with a familiar weapon." Another lie, but not quite.
He didn't mind using another weapon. His skills lay in his own sharpened abilities, not in whatever object he had on hand. He could manage fine with any other broadblade you gave him, and he trusted you to help him fight. You fumbled a little bit here and there, made him attack a little recklessly at times, but you were doing your best. Jiyan could count on you in battle.
However, when you asked him if he wanted his weapon, he stopped. Having his sword on hand would do him good, of course. As he told the Rover, he fights even better with Verdant Summit. But, there was something about you asking his opinion. He knows you cannot read his thoughts. And yet you asked. It felt rather nice… A connection between you both. A familiarity he did not expect but was definitely not unwelcome.
He couldn't help the laugh that escaped him. To his surprise, you actually hear him. He frowns at the short panic this causes (did you not want to hear from him after all?), but thankfully you move on from it quickly enough. You take his laugh as a good sign and decide to acquire his weapon.
When he saw the shooting stars alight the waters below, Jiyan pondered for a second. Surely, there won't be any harm in helping you a bit, right? He reaches down and touches one of the stars, immediately making it light a glowing golden light as it shoots to the sky. He feels your joy before he hears it and with it, his own chest is filled with warmth.
There's a silence that overtakes you when you see the weapon that makes Jiyan worried. Did… you not want his weapon after all? But that can't be right, you even asked him for his thoughts. Or did you sense that you received it without effort? Did you realize he helped you get it? Maybe he shouldn't have meddled with your abilities.
Before he can overthink and sink into a spiral of doubt, your screams of joy and the sound of you jumping around in pure happiness fill his ears. Jiyan breathes out in relief, another small smile making its way to his lips. He was worried for nothing. Maybe you were just shocked for a little bit. Did you think he would not help you get it? He knew you would, he just helped you receive it earlier than you would have. He may or may not have simply wished to hear your joyous laughter at the moment.
As you give him Verdant Summit, he tests its weight and familiarity in his hand and perform a couple of swings (maybe he wanted to show it off a bit for you, just a touch). You think it was made for him? Well surely it was, and yet the comment makes him laugh a little more. You've been making him a laugh for a while now.
You enjoy a few more moments with him, battling together. He enjoys them as well, if he was honest, as you spend the time praising him and being in awe. It was rather embarrassing if he was honest, but he appreciated it all the same. Before he knew it, time had flown in an instant. You bid him and the others goodnight before leaving, and he knows you leave with a smile on your lips.
"Uh-huh. Right. I definitely believe you." Rover laughs. "Don't think I didn't see you smile, General Jiyan."
Almost on instinct, Jiyan covers his mouth with a hand, looking away. It barely concealed his embarrassment. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Be careful the others don't catch you helping them too much." Baizhi suddenly speaks from the side. She was so quiet Jiyan almost forgot she was there. The Rover smiles teasingly, before they turn around with a small wave. Baizhi follows soon after with a nod. "Chixia's already complaining that they're showing you too much favoritism."
"I- yes, of course. Thank you for the advice, Baizhi." Jiyan clears his throat.
Was it that obvious? Most likely. Rover and Baizhi may have seen too much considering they've been traveling together for a while now, but if even the others were noticing his closeness to you then he was doing a poor job at hiding it. However, was there really a need to hide it? The others did not try hiding their favor for the warm voice they hear and who guides them. So, there was no need to hide it himself, was there?
He spins his newly obtained sword - an old companion, but he felt like he was seeing it for the first time all over again, with better memories attached to it - and smiles softly. Yes, there was no need to hide how he favored your connection to him. It wouldn't even be a bold claim for him to say he was happy that he had made the decision to come when you called for him.
Jiyan hopes you stay with him for a while longer, if only to see what you see, feel happiness the way you do. He'd like that a lot.

✰ pairing ⤫ fem!bsf!reader x gabe perreault
✰ synopsis ⤫ in which gabe and his best friend finally get together after pining for each other for a long time and now they have to make up for lost time
✰ content ⤫ just some sweet fluff. obliviousness. me writing friends to lovers AGAIN. abrupt ending? suggestiveness at the end maybe…
✰ 💭 ⤫ gabe and friends to lovers? I simply had to! as always I hope you enjoy and please do tell me what you think <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were sitting in the dining hall next to Gabe, pressed into his side, his hand on your thigh drawing patterns absentmindedly. The guys were bickering back and forth but he wasn’t really paying attention, he was too focused on you. He fights a smile when you steal another grape off his tray, trying to be sneaky.
"Oh before I have to leave…" you say turning your body even more in Gabe's direction and putting your hand on his thigh and scrolling through your phone.
He bites his lip and takes a deep breath, trying to stop the fluttering feeling in his stomach as you show him two pictures of different colours.
“Okay, this one or this one?” you ask, swapping between the two photos.
“I like that one more, it’s the school’s colours.” Gabe says referring to the picture of the maroon nail polish.
“I like that one too. I gotta go or I’m gonna be late, but I’ll see you tonight?” you ask, dropping a kiss to Gabe’s cheek as you leave, bidding goodbye to the rest of the guys at the table.
“Dude, when are you gonna ask her out?” Ryan asks
“Never, we’re not like that.” Gabe answers
“Really? Cause I’m pretty sure everyone thinks you guys are dating.” Will says and Gabe shoots him a look that says traitor.
“No they don’t” Gabe argues
“Uh yes they do. I thought you guys were a couple for the first few months after we met. And why do you think no one makes a move on her?…because they think she’s taken.” Cutter says
Gabe hadn’t really thought about the fact that guys hadn’t really approached you. He can’t deny that he felt a sense of satisfaction that people thought you were his. But there was also a sense of disappointment and longing, because it wasn’t true no matter what other people wanted to believe.
“I don’t care what other people think, we’re not together.” Gabe replies
“But you wanna be, right?” Ryan asks and Gabe sighs. He really didn’t want to talk about this.
“It doesn’t matter, she doesn’t feel the same way.” Gabe says, a tone of finality in his voice.
“You’re kidding right? When I assumed you guys were together, most of the time it was because of things that she did. I mean, just five minutes ago she was practically sitting in your lap, looking at you with heart eyes and kissing you goodbye…If those aren’t signs that she feels the same way, I don’t know what is.” Cutter says and when Gabe doesn’t respond the guys thankfully move on to another topic of conversation.
-
When Gabe goes over to your place that night, he’s still thinking about the conversation he had earlier that day. Were you giving him signals? Maybe he should just ask you? But what if you weren’t sending him signals and you didn’t feel the same. Gabe doesn’t want to risk losing you if you don’t.
When he enters your apartment, he’s immediately met with the smell of popcorn and the sight of you cuddled up on the couch, wearing his hoodie, popcorn sitting on the little table at your side. He chuckles a little at the sight. The popcorn bowl was bigger than your head. You always make too much, so Gabe had taken over popcorn duties for the last few movie nights but he was running a bit late tonight and you were impatient so you went ahead and did it.
When Gabe takes a seat next to you on the couch, you immediately cuddle into his side, where you stay for the rest of the movie. Gabe didn’t really pay attention to the movie at all, his mind still thinking about whether or not he should ask you how you felt. He was pulled out of his thoughts when you turned to him abruptly while the credits rolled on the screen.
“I forgot to show you my nails! Do you wanna see them?” you ask and Gabe smiles while nodding, finding your excitement adorable.
You hold out your hands and he takes them both, holding them gently and inspecting your nails. He was expecting the slightly longer than normal maroon covered nails, what he wasn’t expecting were the little golden 34’s on each ring finger.
“Do you like them?” you ask a little hesitant.
“I love them,” he says, kissing both hands and you smile.
Signals. Surely these were signs that you had feelings for him…right? Gabe couldn’t go on any longer not knowing. He was going to drive himself insane. He just needed to ask you and accept whatever the fallout was of doing so.
He takes a deep breath and holds on tighter to both your hands, for support. “I need to ask you something.”
“Anything,” you answer
“I like you, as more than a friend. And I’m sorry if this is gonna mess things up between us but I can’t go on any longer wondering if you feel the same. I just need to know so that I can either try to move on or…” Gabe says, unable to even speak the words into existence if there were no chance of them being true.
“Gabe of course I like you…I’ve been doing everything I possibly could to make it clear that I like you…short of kissing you or just telling you,” you say
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Gabe asks
“Because I was scared. Terrified really. That you wouldn’t reciprocate my feelings and our friendship wouldn’t be the same afterwards. I thought you knew. I was actually starting to think that maybe you just didn’t have feelings for me.” you say a little sadly.
“No, not at all! I do have feelings for you. A lot of feelings. I can’t believe we could’ve been together all this time…” Gabe says, a little frustrated with himself that if he had taken this risk sooner, you could’ve gotten together months ago.
“Don’t think like that. I love that we both cherish our relationship so much that we didn’t wanna do anything to risk it. We’re just gonna have to make up for lost time.” you say and Gabe smiles a little, loving that you always seem to see the good in every situation.
You shriek when he stands up and throws you over his shoulder.
“What are you doing?” you ask laughter bubbling out of you.
“I’m making up for lost time,” Gabe says walking towards your bedroom.
If things were gonna go like he hopes, you’ll have the rest of your lives to make up for lost time.

My OCs' meet cute
(I'm having a bit of edit-anxiety. I have a workshop due at midnight and I’m trying to get myself to edit this last portion. So this is meant to be a warm up to help get me in the right headspace.)
Junior and Leon didn't meet by chance. Nothing in Mountain Pine holler happened by chance. Leon had spent the first warm day of spring fishing along the creek that separated his home - Snake Ridge, West Virginia - from Mountain Pine, Kentucky. He'd heard stories about Mountain Pine holler. He was told it was full of demons and witches and unsavory folks who you didn't want to run into.
So he sat on his side of the creek. He'd been there all day and hadn't caught a damn thing, so he started packing his things up with a huff. Then he heard someone sneeze from behind him. Looking over his shoulder, he spotted a young man - no older than him - walking down the dirt path with a fishing pole and bucket in hand. He watched as the other walked out from under the shadows of the forest and sat down in the setting sun.
He was beautiful.
The other young man smiled and waved. Leon's face flushed as he realized he'd been caught staring.
He had no idea what came over him. He'd always been told to never step into Mountain Pine holler. Demons and witches and unsavory folks who you didn't want to run into lived there. But the setting sun got caught up in the stranger's curls just so and all Leon could see was a halo around his head. This here was no demon or witch or unsavory folk - he was an angel sent by the good Lord.
Water rushed into his boots as he stepped into the creek to cross. He took another step, and stone he stepped on shifted and slipped under him. Caught up in the rushing current, Leon found himself being pulled under water. He panicked, thrashing his arms about as he tried to push his head above the water.
He felt something wrap around his torso and suddenly he was pulled from the water with a loud gasp. He felt his body hit the cold dirt of the creek bank and he began to hack the water from his lungs.
"You alright?" a voice asked from above him. He felt a warm hand gently pat his back as he coughed. Leon turned and opened his eyes to the pretty stranger staring down at him. His voice caught in his throat as he realized he was close enough to see the freckles that scattered across the other's cheeks and the small gap between his front teeth.
"I'm- I'm-" Leon sputtered as the other looked at him with soft amber eyes, "Good Lord you're prettier up close."
Much to his relief, the stranger started to smile and laugh.
"I ain't pretty enough to die over. What were you thinking? There's a bridge just down stream."
Leon shrugged, "I wasn't thinking much of anything other than talking to you."
"Makes sense," the stranger said as he rolled his eyes.
"You didn't put a spell on me did you?" Leon asked, his eyes wide and dead serious, "You came from Mountain Pine."
The stranger just laughed more, "No. I ain't that kind of witch. Come on, let's get you dried off. It's still cold enough to catch something."
Leon took the stranger's hand and let himself be pulled to his feet. Once up right, Leon stumbled forward as water sloshed in his boots and his laces got caught under his foot. The stranger caught him and the two froze for a breath.
"You sure you didn't put a spell on me?" Leon asked, his voice low and quiet.
"No," as the stranger answered, the wind picked up and whipped around them, "I think the hills just wanted us to meet."
Leon didn't know how to answer that. So he leaned forward instead...

Okay, I’m going to attempt to go through this so... bear with me
The PLF leader says this
Tumblr media
From memory, I think Quirk Education includes things like teaching kids about the nature of quirks and how everyone is different, and Quirk Counseling is the act of teaching kids how to control their quirks for adult life (these are generally taught in middle school)
Now, about how these things tie in with mutants
Quirk Counseling. Let’s take Mirio for example
Mirio’s quirk, uncontrolled, is very scary and dangerous. Had Mirio not been supervised and taught how to control it, it could have meant he’d be slipping through the ground unintentionally with no idea how to get back up. It would mean Mirio hurting others and himself because of his quirk, which would mean he wasn’t taught properly, and it would mean a person being failed by the system, therefore unable to integrate with the rest of society
Thankfully, this was not the case. Mirio went through counseling and has been training since then to control his quirk, to not let himself slip and get stuck. He has become an expert in using his power for Hero work
Now, applying this to mutants, what would that look like? Do they get the support they need when learning how to control their quirks?
I mean, mutants are technically classed as a quirk-type. And their powers can often correspond with what type of mutant they are, like how Spinner has the appearance of a lizard and can stick to walls (hence his quirk name Gecko)
So how would you be able to control something like that? Quirks are a part of anyone who has them, sure, but I think this is especially true for mutants. If your quirk corresponds with the type of mutant you are, this being something anyone could take note of due to how you look, then there’s no clear effective way to completely control it
The point of quirk counselling is not only to help you to control your quirk, but to integrate you into a society that expects you to be equal, to behave like you’re normal because of that expectation. Everyone else has to control it, so you have to as well. Be like everyone else and try to lead a normal life
But there’s no way a mutant can lead a normal life looking different to everyone else. That is not being “equal” to everyone else. They expect you to not show your difference, but you can’t help it. You were born like this. You want to be treated equally but your definition of equal is different to everyone else's, and this will mean different needs too
You can probably control the quirk itself, but you can’t control what you look like
So you will not be treated equally. You will not be able to integrate into society. You will be pushed out - become an outcast in your own village or town or city
And this would mean they lack the proper training they should have, that should be surveyed. Even if a mutant were to practice controlling their quirk on their own, outside of quirk counseling, would this be in a safe environment? Would this be done in a healthy way, depending on the quirk and their mental state?
Not going through quirk counseling, something to help control your quirk but also ends up suppressing who you are, may be a good thing, but what does it mean for those who need to keep their quirk controlled? Who need some kind of outlet but have no idea where they could have that and/or don’t even have a support system in place to help them through it?
That kind of lack of support can lead to a dangerous life, which I will talk about next
When I think about Quirk Education, I am reminded of this
Tumblr media
From an early age, most children are taught to not judge people by their quirks (which includes mutants)
In the next panel, Rikiya mentions he was raised that way too, but “there’s a clear link between personality and meta-ability”
I should imagine this means, over the years of criminals and villains being arrested and taken away, there has been research conducted about the link between a person and their quirk. Like how to avoid a bad egg. This implication basically meaning that, in fact, maybe you should be wary of people’s quirks, because that might mean they’re a danger to society (a danger to the precious status quo)
That’s my assumption based on what Rikiya said generally
But looking into it, quirks are a part of you. If mutant-type quirks are being rejected, then mutants themselves are being rejected. Who they are is being cast aside because of what they look like. Therefore, they are less likely to be able to integrate into society if they cannot be properly taught due to this discrimination
Which means they are unable to integrate. If opportunities are denied based on how they look, they could end up at rock bottom; breaking the law, becoming criminals or Villains in order to survive or have an outlet for their hatred to society
So, supposing research is conducted on the link between people and their quirks, the researchers will take those who disobey the law into account
And the more people who read this research as fact (if there are more mutants being charged for crimes than humans, surely this isn’t a coincidence? - they might think this), the more mutants who are discriminated against, the more who are rejected for what they look like, who they are, their “tainted blood”, the more become outcasts and fall into a life of crime just to survive ... the more people will start to believe mutants are naturally bad
And it’s just a cycle that feeds itself
Now, something to take into account is area. While not much is specifically known about that, I can take a wild guess and say that between cities, towns and villages, villages will have the worst education surrounding mutants. This is based on what the PLF leader said, that “Yes, some claim that people educated in diverse environments won’t discriminate, but try stepping out of these big cities for a change! All you’ll find are people who say “They are gross”.”
So I think we can all agree that, regarding quirk counseling and education, villages have the worst. Which means mutants in those places, like Shouji and Spinner were, are surrounded by people who hate them just for being born
Spinner says, when recounting his experience, that “He thought it was only natural.” This speaks to how much Spinner has been through, but I think it also speaks for the education in villages. The fact that Spinner went through discrimination and his response was basically “well, of course it’s like this. this is how it’s supposed to be” shows that, maybe, quirk acceptance (also supposed to be including mutant acceptance) was not touched upon. And if it was, maybe it was only talked about briefly before reality became clearer
We don’t know about the specific state of towns and city mutant education and counseling, but I can probably take a guess and say towns are an inbetween depending on what kind of town, while cities will have more acceptance to mutants but that’s not to say there aren’t people who still oppress them (and get away with it). Cities are diverse, true, but that just means more people, which means all walks of life will be there; mutants, humans, people who accept mutants, and, inevitably, sadly, people who don’t (and probably hide it too, in order to get opportunities in the area that they couldn’t get outside of the cities)
But that last paragraph is more speculation on my part
So. yeah. Quirk education and counselling, in theory, could be good. But for the amount of damage they actually do to those with “bad” quirks and quirk-types, based on looks and misconceptions of what “bad” and “good” look like, there is no wonder that these contribute to the discrimination of mutants

i'm really happy in my life right now. changing jobs was the best decision ever, having coworkers i like and respect doing a job with concrete tasks but that also gives me a lot of freedom to mess around with scripts and spreadsheets and stuff is like, the perfect balance for me. and it's just as chill if not moreso than software engineering, plus i barely have any meetings. i can totally see myself sticking with this job for a really long time and not becoming super discontent.
also ever since i dyed my hair i've been just really happy abt my appearance, it's so fun and i love being able to easily pick myself out in group photos as the one with light colorful hair. it keeps fading to blond, prob bc i spend so much time outside, but i can keep adding pink deposit conditioner in. i'm debating what to do with my hair next, dye it mint or grow it out.
also the other week i did an extra practice with one of my setters and another person on my team (well the A team) and they noticed smth abt my approach for ones and helped me fix it, and it's changed the entire game for me as a middle! i feel much more confident as a middle now and my timing is pretty consistent after so many practices.
at the boston tournament on sat, it was super windy and hot (it's an outdoors tournament in a parking lot on pavement). my team, the B team of our club, lost to the A team in semifinals 27-29 (it was 1 game to 25, no cap) so it was a serious battle and just goes to show how good our entire club is that the B team can almost match the supposedly way better team. the A team went on to win the tournament, and the 2nd place team was a team my B team had already beat in pool play. i played rly well, my coaches even said so to me personally, and i'm just rly proud of how we did and how i did!
i stayed in boston for just over a week for this tourney and heading back to ny now. my mom and i got to go kayaking, played lots of (sand) vb, and went blueberry picking together, and she also went with me to a team dinner with my new coworkers where we all brought our family members.
i'm going to dc this weekend and philly next weekend to play in more tournaments, and we're just sending 1 team with combined ppl from A and B team bc not as many ppl can go, i'm rly excited!

♪ WEST COAST. (💌) – next part
౨ৎ simon 'ghost' riley | reader
synopsis: soap accidentally finds out about simon's girl.
tags: fluff, romance, simon is a big baby !! let us all accept this fact, soap and his assumptions, uh bad jokes, very rushed fic, crack ?, reader can indeed fix simon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soap isn't sure when his assumptions started, nor is he sure how it got to Gaz and Price himself.
Maybe it was when he started to notice that Ghost left base whenever he could. (How come ye never leave base? It's a hassle havin' to go back and forth for nothin', Johnny.) Maybe it was the smudged color of red and pink on his balaclava, the lingering perfume on his hoodie, or his new wallet taking the place of one that was once worn out.
"Wha's yer favorite perfume, LT?" "My enemies' sweat and tears."
(It's well-known that despite the fact that Ghost does consider the 141 to be his family, he keeps his personal life very private and away from them. They respect that, in turn, but let's face it, Soap is nosy.)
Really, it was an accident. Soap swears it was!
He just happened to be passing by his lieutenant in the bar where the team had all gone to celebrate a wreck of a mission that they've managed to successfully finish. Truly, it was an accident when his eyes caught a glimpse of Ghost's new wallet, and he really, very much so did not mean to watch a little too long – long enough for it to open and reveal a hefty amount of cash and a small square of colors, barely noticeable.
Soap's feet move before he could quietly search for more.
"Got a new wallet, aye?" He slides beside the taller man smoothly, just as the Brit had grunted out another order of Bourbon. Ghost hums in acknowledgement.
"Y'got a crush on me or somethin', Johnny?"
Soap chuckles even if the other does not. "A just happened tae see it. Fancy little thing."
It doesn't take long before Ghost disappears into the night, but the Scot swears his pace was a bit faster than usual when he left the awfully-smelling bar, and Gaz would be lying if he said he didn't see the little picture of a pretty bird tucked away in his scarily huge lieutenant's wallet.
It's not that Soap often makes bold assumptions about people and their personal lives, not when they're out of reach from him, but can you really blame him for thinking that the words 'Ghost' and 'girlfriend' do not sound right in the same sentence? Would it be considered an assumption this time if he'd seen the photo himself? Surely, his superior isn't some perverted freak who keeps an image of a breathtaking woman he randomly found in his private items. Uh, he hopes not, at least.
"Bullshit!" is what a drunken Soap yells when the Brit nonchalantly discloses to the team, without hesitation, that he is simply not interested in dating. He spills everything he's gathered in the past few months, from the smallest hints to the biggest; the unfamiliar strand of hair on Ghost's hoodie to the wallet from months ago.
"A'm no crazy!" Soap convinces no one as he's ushered back to the barracks for making such an insane assumption about the lieutenant in his unreliable state. Ghost's lips curl up into a smirk against the cold glass of Bourbon in his hand, sat back and relaxed with his legs spread wide.
Call him a big baby (he is) for making a fool out of his sergeant instead of just telling the truth and bragging about his angel to the others, but can you blame him? He just wants to keep you tucked away in his pocket, away from everyone else. What are you talking about, lovie? 'Course 'm not ashamed of you. You're just too pretty for them, is all. Gotta keep m' girl safe, yeah?
Besides, they don't have to know the way Simon melts into the nook of your neck when he gets home from deployment or know that he uses your lavender-scented shampoo. And no, it doesn't matter that Johnny knows. It's his word against the lieutenant's. He spares his LT and turns a blind eye this once.
When the time is right, Simon is sure to properly introduce his heart to his unspoken family. For the time being, he just wants to keep you his pretty little secret.

Sea Cryptic! Danny AU- Pt. 7
[Pt.1] [Pt.2] [Pt.3] [Pt.4] [Pt.5] [Pt.6]
“I’m having a child.”
Danny stared at Batman.
“…Uh, congrats?”
Batman whips out a stack of paper and a pen. “It’s you. Sign here and initial the highlighted spots.”
Danny instinctively, from years of dealing with Vlad, whacked the stack right out of Batman’s hands and into the bay. He doesn’t even feel bad about littering this time because, “Begone, fruitloop!”
Wait, no, that’s not what he meant.
“I mean- I have parents!”
“Not for long.” Batman muttered and then did a double take. “You have parents? How?”
Danny gasped, placing a hand on his chest to clutch his metaphorical pearls. He ignored Batman’s mutters. Everyone knows the vigilante has an adoption problem. At least, everyone who lived in Gotham did, as everyone who didn’t was somehow convinced that he “worked alone” or some bullshit like that. “Are you naturally this insensitive or were you dropped on your head as a baby? Obviously I had to come from somewhere.”
“They’re still… alive?”
“And kicking,” Danny said, inching away from yet another rich weird guy trying to adopt him. “Mostly the kicking part, though.” He said, remembering the sparring sessions. His mom could kick his as six ways to Sunday with nothing but jiu-jitsu and still have time to work in the lab.
“I see.”
“I’m charging you extra for the emotional upheaval. I have trauma regarding rich people trying to adopt me.”
Batman sullenly handed over a thousand.
“Sweet. There’s a group of shades down here asking if you could find their murderer. Apparently the serial killer is still at large.” Danny pointed.
“Of course. Tell me everything.”
The adoption papers disappeared as Batman went into detective mode.
Danny shoved the cash into his glowing chest and breathed a sigh of relief. He needed to make rent this month so it was a windfall running into Batman.
——
“Hey, Tim?”
Tim woke up from his Power Nap. “Huh?”
“Phantom’s complaining that Batman kept trying to adopt him.”
Tim blinked. “Uh.. what does that have to do with me?”
Danny stared at him, a patiently amused smile on his face. “Just in case the rumor about the Wayne’s sugar-daddy-into the Bats was a thing. Other than that, we might have to confront Batman to get him off of Phantom’s back. ”
“You… want to confront Batman.”
“Hey, man, Phantom’s a friend and it’s ride or die.” Danny snickered. It was literally die, with his Phantom side of things. He held two fists up, and wound them, like Popeye right after eating spinach or something. “And if Batman bothers Phantom, we ride at dawn.”
“Batman doesn’t come out unless it’s dark, though? Or for the Justice League.” Tim grinned. He mentally classified Danny under his “to go to” list. That’s where Bart, Bernard, Cassie, Kon, and Garfield were. If he starts shit, he could count on them to have his back and cause even more shit. Danny, wanting to fistfight Bruce over the man making Phantom uncomfortable? He absolutely is making that list.
“Then we ride at, like, dusk. Or uh, like 10PM. I gotta get my beauty sleep.”
“You’ll definitely need it,” Tim inconspicuously texted the group chat, which quickly blew up.
“Shut up,” Danny playfully shoved Tim. “Wait, can Batman even legally adopt? Isn’t being a vigilante illegal? And how can he adopt someone dead?”
Tim dramatically flailed and splayed over Danny’s carpeted living room. “Dunno about his identity,” he lied to Danny, like a liar. “But Gotham has a bunch of laws for the undead/restored to life people so there’s probably enough gray space there.”
Danny spluttered. “You guys have undead friendly laws?”
“Yeah, geht do you think Grundy just chills out? Plus, we have like a minor resurrection event every few years. It usually doesn’t stick but sometimes it does. Bruce pushed for those laws when Jason came back to life, except he doesn’t actually want people to know he’s like, alive.”
“Jason died?” Danny blinked. Well, that would explain the vibes. “Huh. So what’s up with his rank vibes then?”
“Rank vibes?” Tim pressed record on his phone.
Danny nodded. “Yeah, you know how Phantom’s got like a really chill green vibe?” Inwardly, Danny snickered at his pun. Chill. Yeah, he meant that very literally. “Jason’s got kind of a rank green vibe. He’s kind of stinky? Definitely never introduce him to Phantom.” Danny’s senses got worse in his ghost form.
“Jason regularly showers, though?!”
“Not smell! Like, a spiritual smell?”
“You can smell souls?!” Tim sat up. “Bro, you’re a meta?!”
“Uh.” Danny hesitated. “Yeah. I can smell souls. It’s a thing. Everyone from my town can do it.”
“What?!” Tim paused. “Wait, can Phantom smell souls?”
“Yeah. We’re, uh, from the same town.”
“Danny, what the fuck?”
“Hey, don’t look at me like that, you’re the one with a soul-sick brother! Not to mention, you’re kinda stinky too!”
“Hey!”
“Soul-stinky nerd man!”
——
“I stink?!” Jason spluttered out, extremely offended.
“The Lazarus pits. He’s most likely smelling traces of Lazarus pit on you, you imbecile.”
“We need to speak to Phantom. This instant.”
“I dunno, B. Danny sounded like he was gonna break your face if you bothered Phantom anymore.” Dick snickered.
“Yeah,” Tim chimed in, from his seat in front of the Bat-computer. “He was pretty serious.”
“Are we just gonna glaze over the fact that they’re from the same town?!” Stephanie exclaimed, practicing her moves on a training dummy.
“How does that even work? What does that mean? I thought Phantom was an immortal?” Duke asked.
“We also can’t rule out time-travel.” Barbara slammed her baton into a training dummy, twisting her wheelchair in an agile maneuver that left the dummy on the floor.
“No bothering Phantom.” Cass proclaimed.
“That’s quite right. You all have a warm dinner sitting above your cave and should it remain uneaten, I assure you that sherbet Sunday and crêpe Tuesday shall be canceled.” Alfred stepped in. The Bats, threatened, scrambled to ditch their gear and go upstairs.
