♪ WEST COAST. (💌) – next part
౨ৎ simon 'ghost' riley | reader
synopsis: soap accidentally finds out about simon's girl.
tags: fluff, romance, simon is a big baby !! let us all accept this fact, soap and his assumptions, uh bad jokes, very rushed fic, crack ?, reader can indeed fix simon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soap isn't sure when his assumptions started, nor is he sure how it got to Gaz and Price himself.
Maybe it was when he started to notice that Ghost left base whenever he could. (How come ye never leave base? It's a hassle havin' to go back and forth for nothin', Johnny.) Maybe it was the smudged color of red and pink on his balaclava, the lingering perfume on his hoodie, or his new wallet taking the place of one that was once worn out.
"Wha's yer favorite perfume, LT?" "My enemies' sweat and tears."
(It's well-known that despite the fact that Ghost does consider the 141 to be his family, he keeps his personal life very private and away from them. They respect that, in turn, but let's face it, Soap is nosy.)
Really, it was an accident. Soap swears it was!
He just happened to be passing by his lieutenant in the bar where the team had all gone to celebrate a wreck of a mission that they've managed to successfully finish. Truly, it was an accident when his eyes caught a glimpse of Ghost's new wallet, and he really, very much so did not mean to watch a little too long – long enough for it to open and reveal a hefty amount of cash and a small square of colors, barely noticeable.
Soap's feet move before he could quietly search for more.
"Got a new wallet, aye?" He slides beside the taller man smoothly, just as the Brit had grunted out another order of Bourbon. Ghost hums in acknowledgement.
"Y'got a crush on me or somethin', Johnny?"
Soap chuckles even if the other does not. "A just happened tae see it. Fancy little thing."
It doesn't take long before Ghost disappears into the night, but the Scot swears his pace was a bit faster than usual when he left the awfully-smelling bar, and Gaz would be lying if he said he didn't see the little picture of a pretty bird tucked away in his scarily huge lieutenant's wallet.
It's not that Soap often makes bold assumptions about people and their personal lives, not when they're out of reach from him, but can you really blame him for thinking that the words 'Ghost' and 'girlfriend' do not sound right in the same sentence? Would it be considered an assumption this time if he'd seen the photo himself? Surely, his superior isn't some perverted freak who keeps an image of a breathtaking woman he randomly found in his private items. Uh, he hopes not, at least.
"Bullshit!" is what a drunken Soap yells when the Brit nonchalantly discloses to the team, without hesitation, that he is simply not interested in dating. He spills everything he's gathered in the past few months, from the smallest hints to the biggest; the unfamiliar strand of hair on Ghost's hoodie to the wallet from months ago.
"A'm no crazy!" Soap convinces no one as he's ushered back to the barracks for making such an insane assumption about the lieutenant in his unreliable state. Ghost's lips curl up into a smirk against the cold glass of Bourbon in his hand, sat back and relaxed with his legs spread wide.
Call him a big baby (he is) for making a fool out of his sergeant instead of just telling the truth and bragging about his angel to the others, but can you blame him? He just wants to keep you tucked away in his pocket, away from everyone else. What are you talking about, lovie? 'Course 'm not ashamed of you. You're just too pretty for them, is all. Gotta keep m' girl safe, yeah?
Besides, they don't have to know the way Simon melts into the nook of your neck when he gets home from deployment or know that he uses your lavender-scented shampoo. And no, it doesn't matter that Johnny knows. It's his word against the lieutenant's. He spares his LT and turns a blind eye this once.
When the time is right, Simon is sure to properly introduce his heart to his unspoken family. For the time being, he just wants to keep you his pretty little secret.

1st set of Winx redesigns for my version of the show, ft. Bloom! :D Here we have her Winx, Charmix, and Enchantix forms.
Transformation lore + redesign notes will be under the cut!
Winx: As described in my big hc post, this is the base form, the one everyone starts with. Once you really tap into your magic and gain the ability to transform, this is the form you start out with. I actually added detail to Bloom's form, while maintaining the basic shape of the canon design. I also switched up her wing design to sort of mimic the shape of dragon wings (this was a pain bc they kept looking too...fishy, for a while, but I think I figured it out). Also, I'm calling this form Winx because a) it sounds better than base form and b) I like the lore concept from the 4kids dub that Winx is like. your magic potential or w/e. So I'm using that.
Charmix: The power-up for Winx! I wanted to make this one feel more like...y'know, a power-up, lmao. I was actually considering making it an entire new form, but then I remembered when I was first trying to redesign the base forms (yes I've been here multiple times), I added these glowing neon lines and decided. Yknow what, that looks cool, that's what Charmix is gonna look like now. So here it is! The lines themselves are meant to glow with the colour of the fairy's magic (hence why Bloom's are orange), and using it also causes their eyes to glow, until they revert back to using Winx.
Enchantix: Listen I love the flowy dresses and long gloves and everything, I do, but I think a more armoured version of Enchantix would look so cool. Really emphasizes the whole concept of "guardian fairies" imo. Obviously I still wanted to keep elements of the original, so similar to Winx, I took the basic shapes of Bloom's dress (because it's so pretty and I love it) and played around with that. I also give all of them these long glove-things and toe-less socks to call back to the fancy gloves and sandals. Added a crown with some dragon-adjacent horns and used more fire-inspired shapes for the wings to emphasize the whole "Dragon Flame" and "Princess of Domino" aspects of Bloom's character, since I feel they are. very important. for this one.
Also, you might be looking at this and going "Cupcake. Where are fairy dust bottles." and to that I say. There uh. There isn't. I took those out BUT fairy dust is not gone, I'm not removing something THAT central to the plot. No, instead, each Enchantix fairy gets a wand that they can summon when they wish to perform spells using the fairy dust. And the reason the wand isn't in this post? ...I haven't designed any of them yet sjkdhfkg But I'll make a post in the future with all of them at some point when I do :)

The whole idea of “imprinting” is really nasty to me so I think Jake and Bella should have a “childhood friends that are close like siblings” kinda relationship that doesn’t change into anything romantic later on.
I also think that Jake and Leah both hate their pack leader and they should kiss about it.

Non-euclidean geometry in media is one of the most fascinating things to me. I remember playing games like Antichamber and The Stanley Parable when I was younger and I only now realize how much of an impact they had on my younger, sponge-like brain. There's a feeling akin to a fourth wall break when reality itself breaks before you, you cannot rely on the comfort of knowing not only what will happen, but can happen next. It oddly resembles the feeling of listening to music outside of 12-tone equal temperament, especially if you're like me, and has spent years listening and studying to music inside this one system. Using a medium to its full potential, to the point where you feasibly cannot recreate said art in any other way. Books like House of Leaves are a perfect example of 'media that cannot be recreated in any other form'. It is a popular form of ergodic literature; a book whereas effort is required to traverse through pages to get the full picture of the story. There are pages where the text will suddenly be backwards, form shapes, etc. The format of the text will physically bend to act as a metaphor for what the characters in the book are feeling/what is happening to them. Without explaining the whole plot of the book to ya; there is a part in the book where someone is stuck in an endless labyrinth, and just for curiosities sake decides to punch through a wall. As a direct result of this, the next few pages in the book quite literally have a hole in them, showing the text that was there a few pages earlier. It's even mirrored on the other side of the page.
Tumblr media
(Pictured: House of Leaves, the page I just explained to you. The blue square in the middle is the "hole" in the text. Image from CloudCuckooCountry's video about ergodic literature, where he talks about this exact thing).
Of course, I cant talk about meta media without mentioning liminal spaces and The Backrooms... There isn't much to say other than that this sense of unease seem to be a universal feeling. Many of us growing up in the 2000s can faintly remember being, or atleast seeing a place like a park, a long hallway, a mall etc. Viewing these pictures—which to some degree remind us of our childhood—in a distorted manner not only tugs at our nostalgia but also feeds into our subconscious fear of the uncanny valley. Our new generation is obsessed with nostalgia, so it's no wonder this "meta-genre" of horror is so popular, with things like Gemini Home Entertainment, Mandela Catalogue and so on. Gen Z is widely considered an experimentational generation, with the global normalization of the internet and social media becoming much more prevalent in our daily lives. At a time where we are spoonfed all sorts of both real and fake news from all over the world at all times, it's no wonder most would rather go back to a time where you weren't always pressured to stay connected. Anyways.. dunno how my small ramble about non-euclidean geometry in media turned into me writing about gen z and nostalgia. I'm gonna go back to being inactive now.. (_ _ ") .. Zzzz

Found this in my drafts
Quick reference idea for near future (11/12/23)
“Im not good for you.”
“Tell me why?”
“…step back for a second. Just do it.”
You didn’t question him, immediately taking a step back from him. Kaine stood there with an expression sort of darkening for a second, before he jerked his hands quickly forward unsheathing spikes from his wrists. Your eyes widened slightly and your body froze. He didn’t meet your eye, just glared at the spikes.
Carefully he beckoned you back with a finger, and you listened, getting closer to him. Then you stood in front of him, bravely meeting your eye up at his 6’4 stature.
Kaine stared down at you, his breathing steadying a bit.
“Do these scare you?” He questioned quietly. He brought a stinger a bit up and dragged it slowly on the bare skin of your arm, careful and gentle. It’s smooth yet sharp edge sent a shiver down your spine. You couldn’t tell if it excited you or scared you. But you had to think rationally about this. You had to take a moment to think. Glancing at them did give you some shivers down your spine. You had to be honest about that.
“Yes.”
Kaine’s steady breathing became slightly heavier, his eyebrows knitted almost closer together. You weren’t sure if there were right answers here and the idea almost made you scared, more than his spikes. You heard him open his mouth again, and spoke with a rather hesitant hardened tone
“Do I scare you?”
You thought of all those moments you were with him. You thought of the first time you met. You knew there was more to him than just his usual grumpy attitude. He made you feel safe. You never saw a reason to feel afraid of him. Not unless he showed you this side of him. You shook your head and answered truthfully.
“No.”
You felt a bit of relief when Kaine’s shoulders slightly slumped a bit hinting the tension was already lessening.

decided Fuck It We Ball, and now I'm putting together Lore Bits important to The Forsaken Exile, so here we are after way too long of trying to find the names of them. if you even care:
Post-Red War private celebration - Short and sweet, making fun of Cayde! Important to those characters in particular—Zavala, Cayde, Ikora, and Wolf. Common point of reference in memory lane-type thought spirals.
The Young Wolf's Howl and its promise - Obviously. A promise Wolf still carries, and one Saladin believes them to now either be delusional for or mocking him with by continuing to carry it, especially after murdering Lakshmi.
Aunor accuses/suggests the Guardian could've lied about Cayde's death - The interaction itself is non-canon to Exile, but the initial viewpoint of Wolf on Aunor's side stands very strong, and very wide-spread. The guilt on Ikora's side stands as well.
The Sundial - Always good lore, but specifically the end part of Osiris and Drifter's conversation. That interaction is the context to the Drifter short (or, A Questionably Fortunate Encounter).
Drifter's hallucinations from The Nine - Aids in understanding why, shortly before Beyond Light, Drifter hints to Elsie that there's Something Wrong, and it might be worthwhile to teach Wolf how to control Stasis. While not entirely certain, he recognized the signs of someone trying to ignore whatever they were seeing or feeling, and connected the dots.
Important because of Prime Brainrot: "For Fear of the Conquering Hero" - Actually the name of another page in the same lore book, but thought I'd shove it out here too. As Cayde is still alive in Exile, it's not wholly canon. Honestly not sure of its level of canon at all, as I've no idea what to do with Shin in TFE. But this specific lore page ("A Fire Inside") always makes my brain scream, so have it. Quite honestly, the entire lorebook screams at me, but this one and "Echoes Followed By Silence" in particular.

I keep forgetting to post chapter 4 so idc that it's late im posting it before I forget again. This one is called "Mom and Dad Are Getting a Divorce"
Chris had sat himself beneath a tree, back leaning against it, eyes not looking at anything in particular. The Tortuga appeared in the sky, the clearing being easily visible from the air. It lowered, coming in for a landing. Chris stood as the grass and branches and his hair were blown back by the wind as the Tortuga touched base. He approached the ship as the head dropped and mouth popped open, granting him access. Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy were all standing around the circular table in the main section of their mobile home. Chris joined them silently, eyes darting as thoughts danced frantically inside his head. No one said anything, silence hanging in the air. The three already on board exchanged glances before all starting at once.
"What happen-?"
"Are you oka-?"
"How did you-?"
Another moment of silence.
"Chris", Aviva began, slowly, quietly, as if not to scare away a timid critter.
"Where's Martin?" Jimmy's voice trembled, scared of what the answer might be.
Chris sighed heavily, gesturing to the woods with his head, deliberately avoiding making eye contact.
"He's still out there."
Relief flashed briefly through the crew before quickly being replaced with concern again.
Aviva's mouth pressed into a thin line. Koki tentatively spoke up.
"What happened to you guys out there?"
Chris crossed his arms.
"We thought we were tracking a werewolf, something wrong with it making it stuck in wolf form even during the day. Eventually we lost it, and were looking for the way back when we realized we hadn't lost it at all. It had ditched us, and was hunting us instead. That's when we knew it wasn't a werewolf, it was a fenrir."
"A fenrir? What's that?" Aviva asked.
"It sounds scary", Jimmy said from behind the pillow hiding him.
"It's a wolf-like creature from old Norse myth. Supposedly the Fenrir is a child of Loki, and what we encounter now are its descendants. They're big, and vicious, and hunt for sport, but otherwise they're just big wolves."
Jimmy's pillow was trembling like a leaf.
"So that's what that thing was", Aviva muttered to herself, speaking of the lump of fur on the floor of the clearing they saw from above. She looked up at Chris again.
"So, what happened to Martin? Why's he not with you?"
Chris looked even more miserable.
"Because I told him to leave."
"What?" Koki asked. "Why would you do that?"
"I… I wasn't sure my plan would work. And if it didn't, well. I figured it'd be better if it only got one of us."
Aviva's jaw dropped.
"Idiota! Estúpido, estúpido, imbécil!" She threw her hands up. "What were you thinking?"
Chris snapped to face Aviva.
"I know! I know already! Don't you think I know how bad I fucked up? That's my big brother out there! In these fucking woods of all places! If we don't find him soon, he- he could-"
Chris shut his mouth before his voice could waver.
"We need to go," he continued softly.
Koki and Jimmy stood to the side awkwardly, eyes shifting between the two.
Aviva set her frustration aside for the time being. They would exchange words about this later.
"Ok. Ok, you're right. What's the plan?"
"We take the Bug Bikes, two by two."
"Two by two? As in, all of us are going? As in I'm going?!" Jimmy asked nervously.
"Sorry, Jimmy, but it isn't safe to go by yourself out here, and we need to cover as much ground as possible. The woods get thicker the deeper you go, and Martin was pretty much running straight in."
"Oh, boy," Jimmy gulped.
"You can come with me, if that'll make you feel better."
"It does not, but ok," he sighed.
Chris swung a leg over the seat of the bug bike, placing his helmet over his head as Aviva locked down the Tortuga. They didn't want to come home to any… unwanted guests. Jimmy was already fusing himself to Chris's back, eyes screwed shut.
"Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts," he mumbled the chant into Chris's jacket.
"It's ok, Jimmy. Everybody is gonna make it back alive, I promise," Chris reassured quietly.
"Alive doesn't mean in one piece," Jimmy pointed out.
Chris rolled his eyes.
"Ok, fine. Alive and in one piece."
"What about traumatized? We could easily be traumatized for life out here."
"Jimmy, Aviva dropping that wrench last week 'traumatized' you. I'm afraid there's no avoiding it in your case, woods or no woods."
"My point still stands."
Chris shook his head with a soft smile. Aviva and Koki pulled up beside them, giving him a thumbs-up. It was go time.
"You guys go left, me and Jimmy will go right. We'll check in with each other on the creature pods every hour. Use them to map where you've searched already, too."
He looked to the sun, beginning its slow descent toward the horizon. They still had a few hours.
"Let's hope we find him before the sun sets. These woods aren't meant to be explored when the sun goes down."
Koki and Aviva nodded solemnly. Jimmy whimpered quietly, tightening his grip on Chris.
'I'm coming for you, bro, wherever you are. Let's hope you use your head and stay put.'
He took off just right of the direction Martin had disappeared, Aviva and Koki heading left. They quickly faded out of view, and the sound of their bug bike shrunk till the only sound disturbing the silence was Chris's own bike. He zipped between the trees, dodging expertly and peering between the twisted trunks.
"Keep an eye out, Jimmy. Any sign of Martin is crucial."
"Uh huh," was the response he got.
Despite the sun still shining, these woods seemed to swallow light, the shadows inky and menacing. Chris turned his lights on, illuminating the trail he was blazing. If Martin had listened to Chris, he should have kept running mostly straight, so he opted for heading toward the heart of the woods. Hopefully they'd find a sign of Martin before long. Exhaustion and solitude were a death sentence here.

I keep trying to design The One Costume Each Character Will Wear For The Whole Comic but maybe i need to finally accept that i like dressing them up in many different styles that can change scene by scene. (This desire is competing with how i wish i could finally have a comic where i don't need to re-outfit my characters every five pages.)
