Obey Me! Masterlist
--
Lance paused when he stepped into his bedroom. Sitting against the pillows of his futon was a green and teal teddy bear. Lance quickly approached it, a soft smile playing on his lips at the sight of it. His fingers trailed along the plush chain that led to a large clock by the teddy’s side. He picked up the stuffed animal and placed it in his lap, lightly squeezing the teal paw pads and running his fingers over the soft fabric.
Lance held the teddy bear up to his chest and took out his DDD. His fingers quickly slid across the smooth screen before he tapped away.
Lance: Did you get me the teddy bear?
Barbatos: Do you like it?
Lance: I love it! It reminds me of you.
Barbatos: I’m glad. I was hoping it would.
Barbatos: I was hoping that while I’m away, and if you need it, it would provide you with some comfort.
Lance: It will. It won’t be the same as you, but it will.
Lance laid down on his side, spooning the teddy bear. He brought the stuffed animal up to his face and buried the bottom part of his face into it. He hummed joyfully, it smelt like faint traces of tea and herbs. His eyes poked out over the top of the teddy, eyeing the dots in the chat with Barbatos.
Barbatos: I also forgot to tell you; it’s enchanted to allow me to feel whenever you touch it. It’s a warm sensation.
Lance tensed at the revelation; his cheeks burned. He giggled to himself and held onto the teddy bear tighter and pressed a kiss to its head, hoping Barbatos would feel that.
Lance: Then, I’ll have to hold it until you get back.
Barbatos: I would like that very much.
Lance grinned; his fingers ran in soft circles around the teddy bear. Then, suddenly, his whole body was encompassed in warmth. His eyes widened at the soft blanketed feeling.
Barbatos: I also have a teddy bear. I hope you don’t mind.
Lance squealed into his teddy bear, unable to hold back the butterflies fluttering about in his stomach. He texted in words far calmer than the thundering of his heart.
Lance: No, I don’t. I like the feeling.
Barbatos: Me too.

ngl i am waiting for you to write about physical touch and HANDS in last twilight *insert manifestation circle.gif here*
Not gonna lie, as much as I have been enjoying Last Twilight, I haven't felt all that inspired to write about it, but it has been making me feel all warm and fuzzy now that people are reaching out and asking for my thoughts. Turns out people actually seem to enjoy my horrendously long posts!
Alright, I will talk about physical touch and hands in Last Twilight, but before I get too far in to it, I just want to say, I love the use of physical touch in shows, but I will dare to claim the use of physical touch seems particularly important, and especially complicated in Last Twilight, compared to most of the other shows I've written about. Why?
Because Day is blind, and Mhok is his caretaker, and if you are remotely aware of disability, the autonomy of disabled people, the privacy of disabled people, the survival of disabled people are often disrupted by abled bodied people. I saw a post somewhere, sorry I can't find it, where someone mentioned the rates of abuse of disabled people by their caretakers and how that might weigh in to Day's reaction to touching a shirtless Mhok in Episode 2.
So.
With Day's blindness, grief, and intentional isolation, as well as his family's anxiety, how much control has Day really had over his own life in the last year? As @bengiyo said in Episode 1, "Day's brashness in the interview when he asks Mhok if he's hot sounds like a gay man knowing that he is about to be touched a lot by a stranger" [not a direct quote, apologies].
Episode 1

The first physical touch we get between Day and Mhok is when Mhok touches Day's chin, making a comment that essentially boils down to Day having a punchable face. You can see how shocked Day is to feel Mhok's thumb on him. But the motion is quick, light, and slightly flirty (though maybe I'm reading a bit in to that last one since I know this is a BL). While Day seems taken aback, he doesn't seem uncomfortable with the touch at all, moreso, to me at least, he seems surprised that Mhok *isn't* shying away from touching Day after Day so loudly and blatantly declared his queerness and hit on Mhok.
Tumblr media

The second physical touch we get is when Day leaves his car and winds up on the street with traffic whizzing past. Mhok pulls Day off the street when Day gets overwhelmed and Day goes crashing in to Mhok. I don't remember them staying pressed together for too long, but there is a moment where Mhok is embracing Day. Mhok's hands go to Day's hips while Day's hand rests on Mhok's chest near his collarbone. From my view, this is a decently intimate position for relative strangers, but they don't feel uncomfortable in it. Which is a great hint that Mhok and Day are going to become more to each other. Mhok does something here that I do think is important, which is to tell Day who is he, so Day knows he isn't being manhandled by a *complete* stranger. And though I suspect the biggest reason why Day ends up being driven home by Mhok is because Day wants to be away from Night, it cannot be denied that Day already has some modicum of trust in this random, crass man that burst in for an interview just the other day. Because, as we know, Mhok was really the only person who interacted with Day without falling victim to pity, inspiration porn, or infantilization.
Tumblr media
The third physical touch I consider important is when Day's mother stops him from standing up. I've been reading @waitmyturtles PhD level thesis on Bad Buddy so filial piety and saving face is pretty present on my mind. I think it is important to acknowledge that Day does have some autonomy, but where he exercises it is very clear. He can leverage his blindness and his bad experiences with past caretakers to get what he wants out of his mother, and he can double, triple, quadruple the caretaker salary without consulting his mother. But when it comes to physical movement, he listens to his mother, but not to Night. Night tells him to stay in the car, and Day almost immediately leaves the car and goes in to the Society. Day gets out in the middle of traffic after a fight with Night, even after Night begs him to stay in the car. But that moment of challenge from Mhok where he tells Day to come get his ID himself, and Day starts to stand, everything stops dead in its tracks at the first light touch of his mother's hand on Day's chest. So, despite the moments of anger and rebellion we see from Day, he still listens to his mother.
Tumblr media
gif from @dragonsareawesome123
And then Day moves to get his ID, and here is where I will mention a moment where there was not any touch. Which, probably could be an essay in and of itself, but I don't have the capacity at the moment, on this airplane, to comb through all the scenes and look for it. But here, this one feels important, because Day takes the ID from Mhok, but Mhok does not let go right away. Their fingers are so close, and in a lot of movies, the handing over of an item would usually involve some sort of moment where fingertips brush and a shockwave of electricity ripples through the future couple. But we don't get that here. The moment of connection, the moment that Day really knows he can trust Mhok, the moment Day decides he is going to hire Mhok has nothing to do with touch, and everything to do with sound. He hears Mhok read Chapter 21 of The Little Prince, a book that is desperately important to Day, and that is that. And I do think it is important that these little touches that we've had, and where we break from the romance tradition for touch are important. Because, I think it is totally fine for feelings to grow between Mhok and Day rather quickly, but I do not think it would have been wise to show Mhok having some sort of actual crush on Day from the beginning. If Mhok had some sort of romantic or sexually attractive feelings for Day before he started working there, that would, in my opinion, read as predatory in some sense. Especially looking ahead to Episode 2, when Mhok is shirtless in Day's room.
Because, the thing about physical touch in television is that a lot of different elements go in to selling it as romantic chemistry. One of the most important components is timing and close up. As a side note, I think timing is a huge factor in to why I did not enjoy Perth and Chimon together in Dangerous Romance (before I dropped it) because the camera just never lingered long enough on their faces or on their touches for me to believe they had feelings for each other. But, by Episode 3 of Last Twilight I can see the care and the chemistry between Mhok and Day. I can see the comfortability that Mhok and Day have from almost the very beginning of knowing each other, but I don't take much of their physical interactions to be sexually charged or romantic in Episode 1. Why would they be? These two don't know each other. By generally avoiding zooming in on just Day and Mhok's hands when they touch, by having Mhok grabbing Day's chin with his thumb quickly and lightly you aren't building to tension. Aof is merely demonstrating that physical touch between Day and Mhok is welcomed and Day is not going to be uncomfortable with having Mhok take care of him.
Tumblr media
So we head in to Episode 2 with the understanding that there is some fundamental aspect of Mhok that Day is drawn to, and that Mhok and Day are going to get along.
Episode 2
Now, as much as I have loved the rapidly developing relationship between Mhok and Day, I do kind of wish we had had a full episode's worth of two angry, grieving people coming head to head. But, regardless, Aof handles the transition between casual touch and Something More with expert precision. Unsurprising, considering his oeuvre.

So we get absolutely my favorite touch moment to date in Episode 2 with the absolutely terrible secret handshake between two blind people. I love how Mhok is witness to this moment of excitement and friendship between Day and Aon, and that we are too. Because it shows us where Mhok currently stands in Day's hierarchy of relationships. Mhok at the beginning of Episode 2 is still an acquaintance, some dude they hired because he cursed the family out and read The Little Prince during his interview process. The cut scene between Mhok saying Day might not want to see him, and Aon and Day hugging and doing their stupid loser handshake (I love them) shows Mhok and the audience that Day does have joy within him, and that Day is starting to build friendship and connection within his new (read: blind) community. We won't know until a little later in the episode how much Day has been cutting himself off from his old life, but for the time being Mhok knows his place in Day's life.
And Aon picks up on the fact that there is *something* even if it is not necessarily romantic there between Mhok and Day, again not by seeing anything physical between them because a) Mhok and Day did not touch in front of Aon and b) Aon would not have been able to see it anyway. But instead calls out the fact that Day has never talked about a single one of his caregivers before. We know now (and definitely should know already) that Mhok is different from other people Day has engaged with since he started going blind. We just haven't had time for their relationship to mature.

If I recall correctly, the first physical touch between Mhok and Day we get in Episode 2 is when Day accidentally touches Mhok's titty while searching for the eye drops. You can see Day recoil in shock a bit and he questions Mhok almost immediately as to why his shirt is off. Mhok is incredibly matter-of-fact in explaining that Day said he didn't like the smell of cigarettes, so he took his shirt off so as not to stink up Day's room (we can ignore the fact that he would still smell like cigs, but we ignore it For The Vine) and Day relaxes and makes some sort of annoyed comment. Again here, there is no romantic attraction in this rather intimate touch. I mean, this is Mhok's what? Second or third day? Mhok and Day barely know each other, Mhok is constantly fucking up the Whole Routine because he isn't communicating with Day about what Day's needs are, and here he is in his employer's room having his pec fondled. This is supposed to read as funny, and ultimately I think it does, but it doesn't read as romantic, and it definitely should not. What has Mhok done up to this point that would cause Day to have Genuine Romantic Feelings for him? Nothing.
Tumblr media

Again, the first hint that feelings may be approaching comes outside of the touch, with Mhok seeing how excited Day is to use those few precious seconds of better vision to watch his goldfish. And even moreso, it's not just the action that I think start the train rolling, but the conversation that Mhok has with Day where he asks if the goldfish is lonely. Mhok is able to con Day in to leaving his room by leveraging the health and safety of one of the few things Mhok has seen Day care about and connect with in the short time they've known each other. Day gets outside for the first time in god knows how long, to find that the jasmine is in bloom and to have a lovely conversation with Mhok about it. Mhok asks about Day's vision, how he sees, what he can see, and he tries to adapt to Day's necessary distance requirements. Day of course, has his head turned away and thus does not see Mhok coming in to Day's eyesight range, and bumps his nose against the top of Mhok's finger.
This little, accidental movement is one of my favorites of the episode, mostly because it opens up the conversation where Day asks what Mhok is doing and Mhok asks if Day wants to see his face. And this scene establishes exactly what I mean about timing as it relates to building sexual tension. Day ponders for a moment, the camera lingers on his face, the audience begins to feel like Day is caught off-guard, like maybe he does have some sort of crush on Mhok and he does want to see his face. Only for Day to break that tension right before it gets awkwardly long and tell Mhok he does not. This is closer to the shit that friends would pull. And thus we see that in a very quick period of time Mhok is becoming more important in Day's life as a waypoint. He is listening to Mhok, he has a slight bit of banter going with Mhok when they watch a movie, and even after Day fires Mhok (for the physical touches I will talk about next) Mhok's influence on Day's general day to day (haha) existence is clear in the fact that Day is sitting on the couch and trying to pick a movie entirely independently of anyone.
Things are starting to go smoothly, when Day's friends show up asking when he got back from America. Day panics at the unexpected arrival of friends who seem not to know about his condition, spills his popcorn, and falls to the floor, where he is desperately scrambling to get back on his feet and Get The Fuck Out. Mhok tries to help him up, but he's pretty quickly brushed off. This is the first time we see Day reject a touch from Mhok. Knowing what I know now about where we end up in Episode 3, I am realizing how important this entire scene (from Day tripping to Mhok getting fired) is for establishing a comparison point for change. Because the unwanted touch continues when Mhok breaks in to Day's room, also in a panic when Day is bathing.

We get such a juicy moment of Mhok and Day's trauma clashing with each other in a way that is unintentionally terrible all around. Day does not know about Mhok's backstory, Day does not know that by putting in his headphones and intentionally ignoring Mhok he is accidentally triggering Mhok regarding the death of his sister. Mhok knows that Day is upset, but only hears the room fall quiet, he does not know that Day is in the bathtub (read: naked) when he comes barging in. Again, to reference the post whoever it was made that talked about the rates of abuse/assault of disabled people by caregivers, this is a horrifically vunerable position that Day finds himself in. Mhok is far enough away from Day's range of vision for Day to see him immediately duck behind a wall to give Day privacy while he wraps himself in a towel. And before Day can really process what is happening, with both his emotions and Mhok's running high, Mhok is grabbing at Day's wrists to check them for cuts. A beautiful (and terrible) detail.
Personally, I do not think anyone's reaction to that situation is wrong, but it does give Day a second round of extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome touching from Mhok, when he's already escalated, and trying to process the fact that Mhok just barged in to his room while Day was naked and got a little peek. Here Day demonstrates that he does have autonomy, and that Mhok respects that autonomy with Day firing Mhok after two particularly awful physical interactions, and with Mhok not even saying a word in protest and just accepting his termination and leaving the house.

Now. Mhok isn't completely going out fighting, and Mhok I think has really started to realize that he cares for Day (even if he doesn't necessarily have feelings at this point) because of how badly he was triggered by Day falling silent. Mhok is a thoughtful person and respects Day's boundaries by sending Porjai to the house instead of going himself. Much to Day's chagrin, because the second the doorbell rings, you can see this hopeful look that maybe Mhok is going to walk through that door. Porjai hands Day the present Mhok bought him, and Mhok does hold the slippers close, but he relies heavily on his hands to feel the slippers to figure out what they are and what they look like. He knows immediately that Mhok has been paying attention and trying to get to know Day immediately because the slippers solve the problem Day has had with hitting his feet on furniture corners, and the slippers look like goldfish, one of the few things Day has seemed to care about since knowing Mhok.
Beyond the fact that I think Day already felt bad about what happened the other day and regrets firing Mhok, this really does demonstrate to Day that people still care about him, want to get to know him, and understand that adaptation is a constant in Day's new reality. But Mhok takes it further, by committing to the motherfucking bit to understand Day better.
Aside: I fucking *love* Aof for how often his stories focus on the overlooked or disenfranchised people, and I think that while it is going to be a feat for Last Twilight to become my favorite Aof piece considering how important Moonlight Chicken is to me, the backstories of Mhok and Day and the way they inform character decisions is perhaps my favorite of all of the shows I've seen of Aof's. I *love* the conversation that Mhok and Aon have where Aon says Day is scared of being looked at and judged by people, and how Mhok is like "why?" because he has spent the last year a visible criminal, trying to get a job, and being constantly rejected for exactly the reason he thinks. Mhok has spent so much time and energy over the last year trying to reintegrate himself in to society, while Day has spent so much time and energy over the last year trying to remove himself from society as completely as he can. Even if I am not sure that he believes it wholly, I do think Mhok understands that he isn't an inherently bad person because he was locked up, but that he is a victim of circumstance, and yet even reformed from his truancy past, Mhok found it impossible to get a job because people stopped caring about him as a person the second they saw his ankle monitor. Thus, Mhok knows exactly what it is like to be written off, to be abandoned, to be forgotten and I think it is for precisely those reasons that Mhok decides to spend the time and effort to understand the world that Day is living in.
The ankle monitor has served as an embarrassment for Mhok in such a way that I truly do not think Mhok is concerned about seeming like a complete and utter fool. And even so, he starts to understand the fear that Day is living with existing as a blind person in public, because Mhok is extremely used to seeing what people think of him without them having to say anything, and now he has no idea.

Which I think is a good segue in to the next physical touch we get, which is Day feeling Mhok's face in the marketplace after he asks Porjai to take him there. Again, the distance of the camera, the timing of the movement does not come off as romantic, at least to me. But it does come off as comfortable. I think Day is fucking with Mhok a little bit when he touches his face, and we don't actually acknowledge or get any conversation around the way Day has just demonstrated what it feels like to be touched without warning.
And YET AGAIN Aof has their bond strength not through touch, but through conversation. Because they aren't falling for each other yet, they are still learning about one another. And so they have a conversation where Mhok apologies and Mhok explains what he was trying to do and Mhok identifies what it is that makes Day so afraid of being in public. And we end Episode 2 with Mhok being re-hired as Day's caregiver. But wait!
Remember the last touch we get in Episode 1 is not a touch at all, it's Day taking his ID back from Mhok. Well, the last touch we get in Episode 2 is not a touch at all, it's Day throwing his hands to the sky on the back of Mhok's motorcycle and letting the wind hit his face. It's Day sitting on the complete opposite side of a glass tank, and using his moment of improved vision to catch a glimpse of Mhok. They aren't touching, yet we end the episode with the understanding that Day and Mhok have strengthened their relationship and are on the fast road to friendship. Personally, I feel like it is extremely responsible of Aof to not treat touching a blind person or having a blind person touch you as inherently romantic, and to have the more stomach swoopy moments come from actions and observations entirely devoid of touch. But, I'm not blind so I don't know how much something like that might actually matter to blind people who are engaging with this story.
Episode 3
IT IS TIME FOR FEELINGS!
There are so many physical touches in this episode. The first we get is Mhok unwrapping a bandage on Day's foot, with Day looking extremely at peace with the action. The second we get is Mhok kind of poking at Day and then jokingly moving to pick Day up when he refuses to start cleaning his room. Day doesn't seem like a person generally fond of man-handling, but you can tell very easily that Mhok is just fucking with Day because Day fucked with Mhok. We are witnessing friendship! Which persists throughout the entire episode.

I like too that Mhok using the blindfold to better understand Day is not a one and done situation. Again there are a few friendly touch moments that do not at all read as romantic.Mhok steals Day’s sunglasses and is perfectly at peace with Day feeling up his face to try to see if the sunglasses Mhok is wearing are his; and when Mhok's hand envelopes Day's when they are trying to guess the shirts in Day's closet by feel alone. Day does not tense up, he doesn't suck in a breath, he doesn't really let that touch linger. He shakes it off quickly and is like "that's my hand". And again, as an aside (I hope this does not come across inappropriately but) I kinda like that Mhok is almost gamifying Day's blindness. What I mean by that is that Day and Mhok are engaging in friendly competition to see who can accurately guess the article of clothing. It seems like a great way to bring some joy and levity to helping Day get better at understanding his surroundings without the use of his vision.
I am an absolute sucker for couples in shows that have an established friendship beforehand. I don't mean friends to lovers necessarily, but too often in BLs I have noticed that romantic interests are only ever that and we don't get a lot of moments of stupidity, tomfoolery, and fun. So you better believe I was living my best life in the next physical touch scene when Day and Mhok are fighting with the dinosaur costumes on. And this is where the physical touches start to change, because we start without physical touch and end with it, where we have up until this point been ending every moment of connection and relationship progression ending without touch.
Tumblr media
gif by @raypakorn
For the dinosaur fight, we get the non-romantic, entirely platonic assistive touch of Mhok helping (poorly) to guide Day to the driveway (this fucker was so ready to wrestle he forgot to tell Day to mind the stairs at first lmfao). The actual point of connection starts with Mhok intentionally trying to dive out of the way of Day’s touch. And once again Mhok Day’s blindness to elevate a game between them, by clapping and then diving out of the way to try to avoid Day’s movements. But that avoidance of physical interaction very quickly devolves in to a wrestling embrace, laughing, having fun, and then settling on the ground to chat until Day hears his mother’s car and they run back inside to hide the evidence of childish glee.
Day’s mother returns to find a very different Day from who she left, he’s out of his room, he’s eating in the dining room, he’s seeming much more confident in his ability to navigate around the house. And of course, she has to go and ruin the moment by pushing too quickly on a nerve about going back to school. Day wants to withdraw from school and he needs to go in person.
Now.
We have seen Day taking massive strides in his own healing process in the last few episodes because he is starting to ask for help when he needs it, and Mhok is getting better at caretaking because he is started to ask if Day wants help for certain tasks or if Day is going to do them himself, thus allowing Day to set his limitations. Knowing that Day is going in to school, he asks Mhok to help him fix up his hair, and we get the first of many more crush-level physical touches in the show.
Tumblr media

I’m not Thai, so forgive me if this is wrong, but I am pretty sure that in Thai culture the head is considered sacred and having people touch your head carries a significance that I do not think Western audiences really understand (speaking as a Western viewer). If this is indeed true, then the scene where Mhok is fixing Day’s hair gets even more intense, even when there is a clear change in Mhok’s view of Day from friendly to starting to see something more. Mhok even makes a comment about how Day is a stunner (or something) when his hair is done, and when Mhok asks Day if he likes it and Day returns the question, there is a pause that is not at all dissimilar to the pause Day had after Mhok asked him if Day wanted to know what Mhok looked like.
But where the tension from Episode 2 when Mhok asks the question is broken in a way that makes it seem more like Day is just teasing, I don’t think Mhok’s deflection of “it’s alright” really returns the same level of dismissal. Because Mhok is starting to realize something about the way he is feeling for Day.
We get the inside of the Thai subway for the first time in maybe ever? As Mhok and Day make their way to Day’s college. And thus the not-a-date-kind-of-a-date adventure begins. Day is clinging on to Mhok’s arm as they navigate on to the subway car, at which point Mhok breaks off from Day to try to ask for a seat for Day. But Day grabs him and pulls him back, choosing instead of hold on to Mhok’s arm. Like I have been saying, Aof has been doing a really great job at differentiating the types of touches, and up until this point, the more intimate touches between Mhok and Day, such as when Day feels Mhok’s titty in his bedroom or Mhok’s face at the market, don’t read as romantic, because Day is taking in information to supplement his vision. Similarly, the moments where Day is holding on to Mhok for assistance in environmental navigation, such as when Mhok helps guide Day to his professor’s office or helps him down the stairs the physical touch is matter-of-fact on both ends.
Tumblr media
photo by @athousandbyeol
But here, in the subway, we get the first instance of physical touch from an environmental navigation standpoint that reads more like a man who is developing a crush rather than Day just being guided…
…but that comes from Day, not from Mhok. Which I appreciate massively from the standpoint of ensuring that Mhok as the caretaker does not appear to be taking advantage of Day. In the subway, Day could have sat down, he didn’t need to stay standing, he didn’t need to continue holding on to  Mhok. But he chooses to do that. He chooses to keep his arm linked tightly with Mhok’s, he chooses to get a little flirty with Mhok when he says as long as Mhok stays close to him, that’s all Day needs. And we get the close up of Mhok and Day’s hands when Mhok moves to tap Day’s hand gently, and the shot lingers. Because things are starting to change.
I said in a previous reblog last week when Episode 3 came out that Aof does this really interesting thing in his direction and cinematography when characters share intimate moments, in that he breaks from his standard visual format. The lighting often changes, the camera isn’t held as steady, the moments are zoomed in much closer than we are used to. We get it with Heart and Li Ming playing that spider game with their fingers the night that Li Ming sleeps over and we get it in the subway when Day stumbles slightly and swallows hard, embarrassed and avoiding eye contact while Mhok looks at Day kind of fondly.
Tumblr media
gif by @taeminie
So we see the spark in the subway and then watch that spark begin to catch when they end up in the dressing room together. Day and Mhok both establish that they have never been in a dressing room with another person to cut the tension and nerves a bit. Afterall, this is the first time that we’ve seen where Mhok is getting up close and personal with Day’s partially nude body, when they are both calm, collected, and not amidst a panic attack about a potential medical emergency. No one is feeling violated, no one is feeling scared, no one is having their privacy forcibly removed from them. But that makes them all that more aware of how they are feeling, physically, when they are touching and being touched.
And we get a secondary Aof Camerawork Moment where the style of shot changes and we get that gorgeous zoom in on Mhok’s hands and Day’s chest when Mhok helps Day back in to his shirt. And isn’t it wonderful that the most sensual and intimate moment that we have seen from Mhok and Day so far is putting Day’s clothes back on?

Check out @btwinlines’ post about this scene.
Day and Mhok continue their day, find the Last Twilight book, and are hanging about the market where Mhok leaves Day standing against a pole while he runs to grab a drink. As a result, we get a bombardment of physical touch, the most overwhelming to date because Day is getting just absolutely shunted around, bumping elbows and shoulders with the people at the market with no idea of where he is or where he is going. And this is where we really get an understanding of how terrible physical touch can be when you don’t have any bearing of your surroundings and can’t see where people are coming from or anticipate contact.
We got a scene in Episode 1 where we see how dangerous being blind has the potential to be, but Day isn’t being touched by anybody at that point until he is pulled off the street by Mhok. But this time while Day does have a moment where he is in more physical danger because he stumbles on to the street, he is relatively much more safe getting lost in the marketplace than when he ran out on to the street in Episode 1, cause the few cars that are present are moving slow and know to be looking out for pedestrians. Day is grabbed and directed by random strangers who are trying to help him and kind of just…drag him along until he is out of the street when he is visibly panicking and then just…left on the side of the road with an offhanded statement from strangers that he is “safe now” and they just…leave him alone and continue on their way. Even there, with a helpful touch, there is no safety or comfortability in Day’s posture, he is not calmed by hearing that he is safe. Which serves as a really great comparison point for how comfortable Day has pretty much always been with Mhok (minus the one moment of severe dysregulation after being surprised by his friends and then by Mhok when Day was buck ass naked).
Especially when compared to the relief that just rushes through Day’s body when he and Mhok are reunited and they embrace.
AND LIKE OKAY, CAN I GO ON A BRIEF TANGENT TO TALK ABOUT THE PINK SHIRT?

You know how in a lot of romances you get that moment where you get the like, love at first sight thing? Time slows down, one half of the romantic pair picks the other half of the romantic pair out of the crowd? WE GET THAT HERE, WITH THE BLIND CHARACTER BEING THE ONE WHO PICKS THE FUTURE LOVE INTEREST OUT OF THE CROWD.
The pink shirt is brilliant, and I love how it both acts as an anchor point for Day who is able to calm down upon seeing it, and not panic or freak out when being grabbed and embraced by Mhok after having a decently traumatic experience with physical touch just minutes before while also reaffirming that Mhok is learning and internalizing the adaptations he needs to incorporate in to his own life to make Day’s daily life easier and more accessible. Mhok understands how Day’s vision functions, he remembers that Day has said he could see that shirt from Mars it’s so bright, and he provides an in for Day to maintain his autonomy by making it possible for Day to potentially see Mhok before Mhok sees Day.
ANYWAY
Tumblr media
@athousandbyeol
The embrace they share when Day and Mhok are reunited is not charged, is not romantic, at least not to me. But what it does show is how much care Day and Mhok have for each other, how quickly their friendship is developing, and the safe spaces these two will find in the other. Day calms so quickly the second he and Mhok are touching, as soon as he has an anchor. And he won’t let go of Mhok either.
Aof and co have been playing well with dichotomies, here, a situation that pulls Day and Mhok physically apart ends up bringing them emotionally closer together. It is clear that Day does not blame Mhok for what happened, even if Mhok was gone much longer than anticipated, and that is affirmed by Day defending Mhok to his mother when she questions Mhok’s caretaking skills and holds his criminal record over his head.
And, let’s not forget, this is just writing about the physical touch, this post does not discuss whether or not the lack of touch is important. I wrote a decent chunk of this in the airport without wifi, so I could only talk about physical touch from memory, I didn't rewatch anything like I normally do, so apologies if I missed stuff.

I haven't been able to find a good fic to read in about 7 months, I've only read A Distant Hazy Light over and over, but I need a good fic to get this out of my system
Ok, I understand we need to do something about it but first of all @greenfeelings wrote a brilliant series! So, I get it!!!
I read so many wonderful fics this year, here are some of them, maybe they’re for you too:
Is This Flying Or Falling by Holdingontochaos (A/B/O) It’s very sexy and very emotional. It’s also a lot of hurt and comfort. (Harry is traumatized from a past relationship, see the tags for triggers)
Quiet People Have The Loudest Minds by @2tiedships2 (A/B/O) I rediscovered it this year and couldn’t put it down again. It’s so very very sweet and made me feel warm and fuzzy.
Danger I Can’t Hide by CelticSky This is the most epic fic. I was worried it would be too dark and too real for my liking with the WWII setting, but the author finds a great balance to create a very real and life threatening atmosphere without it being too unbearable. Although I cried a lot! It is one of the best fics I’ve ever read. Great writing, amazing pacing, a truly unique love story.
Just Breathe With Me by @she-bear369 The Yoga fic. I couldn’t put this fic down. I loved their chemistry and how it was immediately palpable that there was something between them. Also Yoga instructor Louis is truly inspiring! Both Louis and Harry come with a bit of trauma they need to work through, but I loved to watch them process them and grow to be even better people, for themselves and for each other.
Love Is A Word You Gave It A Name by @larrydoinglaundry (3 part series) This one is pretty popular, so maybe you’ve read them already? If not, you must! I can’t really prepare you for it, other than that Louis and Harry will build a room in your heart and never leave it. I’ve read this one (and the 2nd part) multiple times, just to spend time with them.
Secrets, Santa? by @indiaalphawhiskey This fic is a gift to our fandom. I still don’t understand how we deserve authors like India. I’ve been wheezing and screaming over Harry, he’s absolutely hilarious and I love him to bits. The way Harry stubbornly thirsts after Louis is as silly as it is understandable because DAMN Louis is a CEO and Harry is his assistant and why isn’t this a Hallmark Christmas movie and thank god it isn’t because this one is so much better! I read this multiple times and it’ll be forever my go-to fic to get into the Christmas spirit.
And a little extra rec because you’re into A/B/O:
Behind Smoke Stained Curtains by @jaerie This fic was recommended to me recently and I haven’t read it yet but will before the year ends. So if you’re curious, give this one a go.
You can check my tags as well: larry fanfic rec, abo larry fanfiction or larry fanfiction (which is all of my reblogs for fics)

jock steve is fantastic but steve and wayne bonding over sports??? top tier because nothing is funnier to me than eddie needing to make plans AROUND steve's plans with his own uncle
wayne being really into sports is also just a ton of fun, like always listening to the radio broadcasts of basketball games and now he has someone to listen with!! eddie coming home and the first thing wayne asks him is "did steve catch up on the game this morning"
you've really inspired me i have so many steve and wayne bonding over sports feelings now o( ̄▽ ̄)o
Eddie gets home from something, he’s surprised to see Wayne’s truck in front of the trailer, he thought he was working. But he’s excited because it means he gets to hang out with Wayne for the evening! They can have TV dinners and Eddie can tell Wayne all about how great things are going with Steve.
And then he gets in the trailer, and there’s the unmistakable sound of Monday Night Football. And his boyfriend, who he saw no more than an hour ago, who did not mention this, is sat on the floor in front of their coffee table and dishing out a KFC bargain bucket.
“Hey, baby, we’re watching football. You wanna join us?” Steve says.
Wayne just throws him a beer, expecting him to agree anyway. It’s not like Eddie wouldn’t be privy to everything going on even if he did try to hide away in his room.
So Eddie sits on the couch behind Steve, accepts the paper plate Steve sets on his lap, and cracks the beer open.
Steve and Wayne get into the swing of the game, shouting at the tv, laughing at each other, saying things that Eddie can’t even decipher using context clues. Then at first intermission, Eddie very quietly interrupts to ask “who’s playing?” because he thinks that’s a question he’s supposed to ask.
And Steve launches into an explanation of the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers. And he must notice that Eddie looks completely lost because he stops, then tries again with.
“It’s like Gondor versus Mordor. We, Chicago, are Mordor-“
Wayne corrects him, “Gondor.”
“Right. Gondor. And they, Green Bay, are Mordor.”
And Eddie still doesn’t really get it but it helps and it makes him feel kind of all warm fuzzies to know that they listen to him when he rambles about his favourite books. So he sits back and devotes himself to learning the thing they love.

Just a little reminder for tonight--- you deserve happiness. You deserve kindness, and grace and you deserve a break from all the stressors that bug you on a day to day basis. Sometimes it's other people who can give you that break, and sometimes the only person who can give it to you is you. If you can, talk a little nicer to yourself today, give yourself a little extra time curled up in bed, or watch an extra episode of your favorite show. Remember to give yourself some love too, lovelies. You deserve it. You're gonna be okay.
== Goofy Shit for Morale ==
So I'm gonna combine a couple things tonight and end tonight with some fun goofy shit also feat. Rhys, Samba, and Taika

....................
The humid summer Florida air is where you find yourself feeling most at peace, among the many you love. There's nothing extravagant about your lifestyle, yet there's a deep level of contempt that radiates through you with warm, fuzzy delight that's hard to beat. Blood relations are irrelevant. Your family has always been within the circus, among the socially unacceptable that are all bonded by the oppression they face in the real world. It sparks a deep level of understanding and trust that can never be broken.
Being born and raised around the same people for eighteen years, you only found that Jimmy could hold such a special place in your heart, different from the others. A friendship that roots deeply into your childhood, flourishing through your teens and carrying now into young adulthood. Jimmy, your partner in crime, your sanction. Hell, your soulmate and other half. He was there through all of the good and the bad. There to wipe your tears when you were still scared of stages, there to cheer you on, there to beat up shitty ex-lovers and remind you how you always deserved better.
Truly, you have no clue what you would do without him.
Nothing brings up the pleasant feeling of nostalgia every summer like the first show of the year. You've been practicing your act since last season. As a contortionist, learning flips to impress the crowd in different ways is a necessity. You take pride in the fact that you managed to learn how to gracefully aerielle across the stage during the cold winter months. Jimmy, of course, was a big help, always spotting you and never letting you fall. He himself learned a couple more juggling tricks. Despite his talent, he still gets unbearably shy about showcaseing it every season.
Performance night is finally here after your long anticipated await. Jimmy is before you, which is how it's always been. Elsa is a woman of order who wouldn't dare to switch up the original line, even despite Jimmy's pleas against going first immediately after her opening. You hold one of his large hands between your own two. He's shaking but trying to play it off, yet another tradition before every show. You stroke his thumb, trying to ease his worries.
"Jimmy, I just know you're gonna do great! Just like every year. You've never disappointed." Your voice comes out as an encouraging whisper in order to not be heard over Elsa's singing. Jimmy swallows harshly, his breathing coming out in deep, shakey exhales. It's a method he's used since he was young to calm himself, something his mother taught him.
Elsa's singing comes to a grand end, colorful confetti exploding everywhere. Her beautiful performance brings an inspired uproar from the crowd. You release Jimmy's hand, stepping in front of him. He quickly grabs his props, the small box full of them almost slipping from his trembling hands. "You say that every year."
You chuckle, fixing his hair back to perfection by readjusting his curls. "And every year, I mean it just the same. Blow their minds, Jimmy. There's a reason you go first." Before he can even argue against your statement, his name is called onto the stage. You cheer behind the stage with the crowd, giving him one final push of encouragement. He's good at hiding his panic, smoothly proceeding to the middle of the platform and reciting his lines. He only stutters once but is quick to get back on track and play it off. You couldn't be more proud.
His hands work magic, although you can hardly see the shadow figures he uniquely creates with the florescent lights, the crowd gasps in awe, which tells you enough. He ends the first part of his act with a joke that makes many in the tent chuckle before moving on to the part he stresses over most. His worries are pointless. He takes three balls in his hands to start, tossing them skillfully in the air.
Jimmy is sweating, deeply concentrated on his task. So much so that he stood no chance when a foreign object in the crowd strikes him in the face. It's luckily not enough to hurt him, but the balls he once held fall to the ground and roll off the stage. You gasp, stunned by the ignorance of the act. Jimmy's concentrated face switches from that to one full of rage. He clenches his fists so tightly his knuckles turn white.
"Do something entertaining, freak!"
It's a deep masculine voice from the crowd. You share Jimmy's rage, wanting to scream at whoever dares to speak to him in such a manner. Part of you panics when you see Jimmy walk to the very front of the stage, his murderous rage clearly radiating across the room. "The fuck did you just say to me? I'll kick your ass!" Jimmy's shout booms intimidatingly across the room. Everyone knows that his threat is far from empty. You hear Elsa run across the stage, the hurried clanking of her heels being easy to distinguish. She makes an apologetic remark before escorting Jimmy away. He doesn't do much to fight her, but his piercing eyes never lose sight of the man in the crowd.
You take the backstage route off of the stage and search for Jimmy outside. Your act won't take place for a good while, so you know you have time to spare. He's mumbling something under his breath in a frustrated manner. You trot over to him, immediately placing a hand on his shoulder. "Jimmy, I'm so sorry, are you okay?"
He doesn't respond, flinching away from your touch instead. Jimmy continues to quickly trudge forward, eventually meeting a tree. He punches it hard. The bark crumbles away from the place of impact as he grabs his red knuckles. You once again run back up to him, putting yourself between him and the tree. "Jimmy, stop! You're hurting yourself."
"I can't keep doing this. I won't be treated that way - it ain't right." He sounds so hopeless, like the fire within him has been put out. His hot rage has simmered down to defeated ashes that fall to the ground. His eyes are red, and the sight brings you pain. You try to bring a hand to his cheek to wipe away the moisture, but he pushes it away. "Jimmy, you can't let this stuff bother you so much. It's not worth it."
He scoffs, taking a step away from you. "Like you would ever fucking know what it feels like." Jimmy looks away, his annoyance clear in his movements. "You're not a freak. You never have been. You have no clue what it's like to be looked down on. When you walk through town, no one says a damn thing or stares at you like you're a monster. You don't ever have to worry about goin' into a diner and being denied service because of how you look." His words are true. You were adopted into the circus only because you were dropped off and abandoned next to one as a baby of only a few hours old. It just so happened that you were born with the skill of extreme flexibility. But his statement hurts like a knife twisting inside of your chest. "I know, I'm not taking away from what you go through at all. I'm just saying that at the end of the day, none of this matters. No one in that crowd matters, Jimmy! Nothing bad they say about you is true, that just comes with this career."
"Well, maybe I'm not like you, and I don't want to be cooped up in some dead-end circus where I get disrespected the moment I walk on stage." Jimmy delivers his final blow before stomping in the opposite direction. "Go back to your fucking show." Immediate rage fills you whole. He's never spoken to you in such a way. For that matter, the two of you have never even argued. You feel wronged, and the shock leaves you infuriated. You can almost pull your hair out from frustration. It was only your intention to help him, and he took it to the extremes. Instead of arguing more with him, which feels like speaking to a brick wall, you head back to the tent to finish the night and hopefully blow off some steam. When you return, no one dares to utter a word about your disappearance once they see your agitated state.
Even weeks later, you couldn't help but wonder if Jimmy had always perceived you in such a foul manner. You feel judged and betrayed when thinking back on it. The stubbornness you both share in common has left things silent between you both, not a single word uttered about the matter. Even Ethel was beginning to grow worried, as the two of you before were inseparable. Eve stopped you the one day, appearantly she tried to pry the issue out of Jimmy first but he refused to even discuss the matter. You simply told her that he needed to get over himself without much further explanation, which left anyone invested in the drama all the more confused.
Jimmy, out of rebellion, decided to stop performing in shows. This did little to keep the peace between he and Elsa. She would push him, but with that, Jimmy would shove and dissappear for days on end. Everyone was growing increasingly concerned, and you wouldn't have agreed to speak to Jimmy had Ethel herself not come to you personally; worried sick for her son. She explained how she believes you're truly the only one who can talk any sense to him. And how could you say no to the woman who practically raised you?
You decided to leave a note on the door on Jimmy's camper, which was a request to meet you at a nearby lake. You inquire that it would make you feel better about meeting him if he shows the mutual effort of trying to reconnect by coming. The spot holds a special sentiment between you two. Each summer in your youth was spent there for hours each day until the sun went down, having the time of your lives. Your heart flutters when you immediately find the old tire-swing still up on the same tree. You don't dare to touch it, scared the weakened rope would snap. All of the pleasant memories would be shattered. Jimmy was always such a gentleman when he was younger. He'd push you on that swing for hours if you asked him, never requesting you do the same in return.
You wait for an hour, maybe two. With night approaching and the soothing sound of the frogs chirping, you nearly fell asleep. Until you heard the quiet rustling of greenery behind you. There Jimmy stood, for a moment you almost entirely forgot about the dispute. A shred of happiness sprouted from seeing him in this place again after many years of abandonment. Although he'd grown into a young man, you could still make out the softness left in his cheeks and warmth in his smile that remained from all those many years ago. Jimmy wordlessly seats himself beside you. This is the closest you two have been to each other in a while.
"Can't believe that tire swing is still up." Jimmy opts to break the silence. "It was hardly even hangin' on when we were kids." You melt, finally realizing how much you missed just talking to him. It puts your soul at ease. "Yeah, I wonder how skinny we must have been to be able to both squeeze in the center of that thing." Jimmy chuckles with you, the night air causing the swing to flow with the wind. Another string of awkward tension fills the silence. So many things fly through your mind as you try to think of what to say. Jimmy himself seems lost in his silence. You wonder if he's thinking the same thing.
"I'm sorry about everything. How I came off wasn't my intention. I don't fully understand your struggles, and I don't have a right to act like I do." You scooch closer to him, allowing his body to block some of the chilly breeze. "But because I don't understand what you go through, I just want you to know that you can always talk to me, okay? I want to understand so I can help. You know you can tell me anything, right?" Jimmy stares at you, his eyes traveling from your eyes to the ground.
He stretches his arm out, allowing you to fully lean in as he surrounds you with his warmth. The hug is comforting and fills you with relief. "Well, I acted like an ass. So, really, I should be apologizing. I didn't mean anything I said, I was angry and lost control of my words, and I just - I'm sorry." He rubs over the goosebumps on your arms, smoothing them out with his warmth. "I should have just told you what was botherin' me." You cock a brow in his direction, urging him to go on.
"Honestly, I feel so trapped here. It's like I have no choice over what I do with my life. Sometimes I think about runnin' away, somewhere that I can get a house and a real job. Have a family, a wife. Hell, maybe even a dog." This makes you giggle, Jimmy's always wanted a dog. Once, he tried to take in a stray until his mother found out he was hiding it in her trailer. She came home to discover her new pillows torn to shreds on the ground. It's safe to say he was not allowed to keep the poor sucker. "Point is, I wanna see what's out there. Maybe with you. I just took it way outta proportion and hurt you in the process when you had no clue."
You lean into his shoulder, pulling him in tightly. "Oh, Jimmy... There's absolutely nothing wrong with that." You shake your head. "I want you to be happy, and I'll support you every step of the way." His breathing halts for just a few seconds. You would have missed it if your head wasn't pressed against his chest. He's shakey, a lot like how he gets before a performance. You can tell something else is bothering him. But instead of prying him for a reason, you sit in silence, waiting for him to share what he's comfortable with. A few minutes are in silence, just the two of you basking in the affection of one another.
"Every time I think about runnin' away, I think about doing it with you." He's quiet, his words slow and calculated. The thought makes your head spin and chest feel tight. Except it's not a bad feeling. You embrace it like a warm blanket. "There's another thing I haven't told you."
Jimmy pulls you a little tighter, as if he's scared that if he lets go, you'll escape. "Truth is, I'm so damn in love with you it hurts. I have been since we were kids. I've been threatening your boyfriends for years to make them leave so that I could have you all to myself, as terrible as that is to say." His hand strokes your hair as he places his chin over your head. You can feel his heart rate accelerate, but you're confident that it isn't nearly as fast as your own. "I've loved you since we were too young to even know what that word means, all the way back to when we'd play tag in these fields unsupervised and laugh together for hours." He takes one final deep breath. "I don't ever wanna live a life without you, and I'll stay here forever if that's what you want because you mean the world to me. And if having you means that I gotta get up and sing or juggle on a stage every now and then, I'll gladly do that."
You're stunned, flustered beyond the point of recuperating. You begin to question every idea of friendship you've ever had with Jimmy. And you come to realize that you've been in love with Jimmy from the moment you met him. It was just seen as a forbidden thing you wouldn't dare to explore. But really, there was no use in that because he already had. This entire time. Jimmy Darling loves you in more than just a platonic way, and you couldn't be happier sitting between his arms in this moment knowing that fact.
His hand, his beautiful perfect hand, traces along your jaw. He motions for you to tilt towards his face. You allow him, letting his thumb graze over your bottom lip so delicately you could cry. His nose grazes against your own, the playful sentiment making you smile. Jimmy takes this as an opportunity. His lips capture your own tenderly. It's addictive, like the sweetest liquor in town that you just can't get enough of. He's caressing your cheek, taking his time melting into your touch. By the end of it, he has you completely breathless, but then he eagerly continues for more. He nibbles your lower lip, deepening the longing you feel for him. You wrap your hands around his back. Without a word, he's laying you on top of the soft grass and hungrily having his way, trailing an assortment of kisses and teasing bites down your neck. It's heavenly, a feeling you're sure you couldn't experience with any other.
A loud crash frightens you, followed by the harsh splash of something colliding with water. Jimmy covers you with his body, scouting the area of any danger. Pinned underneath of him, you're unable to see what's going on. Until you hear his hysterical laughter before he rolls off of you. Sitting up, you see for yourself what is responsible for the sound.
The damn tire-swing. Its time had finally come to an end, the rope seems to have snapped, and there it went, rolling into the lake. You found yourself not as upset about it as you thought you'd be, laughing along with him. Once you finally come out of your hysterics, you roll over and lay against Jimmy's chest, throwing a leg over his own. He rubs small circles into your back, savoring every second.
"I knew that thing was gonna fall."

So I haven’t talked nearly enough about Mutant Mayhem yet but I saw it for the second time a few days ago and they have consumed all my thoughts have some random headcanons I’m dying I have to talk about them more:
⚠️(Spoiler warning for MM as well)⚠️
April
- Lives with her mom and grandfather on her mother’s side. Raised by a single mom who’s a veterinarian and her grandpa, a retired tailor and clothing retail manager, moved in after her grandma passed away a few years ago.
- Listens to way too many murder mystery podcasts and thrillers are her favorite movie genre
- Practices doodling a lot in the sides of her journal or class notes. She’s inspired by courtroom sketch artists and old biology journals.
- Swears like a sailor. Even more than Raph. Tries to censor herself around them but it only gets worse the closer they become as friends
- Becomes a sort of ambassador for the turtles and other mutants in the city. Anyone who doesn’t approve of them, goes through her…
- Favorite subject is biology, outside of working on the school newspaper of course
Leo
- Big time book worm. Has read a lot of the classics like The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, etc. which gives him an advantage heading into high school. His favorite subject is literature naturally as a result.
- Autistic, practically canon but just putting it out there
- Like April, he’s got a sensitive stomach under pressure. Nausea flares up all the time, especially at the sight or smell of blood. They bond over it. Nothing brings two people together like commiserating that your tummy hurts all the time🤝
- Hopeless romantic. Had fallen head over heels for a few other girls he spotted up top even before April came along. She was just…different. He watches a lot of sappy romance movies too they make him feel all warm and fuzzy.
- Love language is words of affirmation big time. He’s always about hyping up the people he loves and will defend them through anything.
Raph
- He’s the team medic in this iteration. He’s no professional but growing up he had so many injuries from being a scrappy lil dude that he picked up on how to take care of ‘em on his own and of course shares that knowledge with his bros and April later. He’s surprisingly gentle when he needs to be.
- He’s the most prone to nightmares/night terrors. The fact that Raph was the one to go seek comfort from Splinter in the tots scene is so important to me.
- He and Donnie are the anime enthusiasts. Hasn’t seen as many as Donnie but it’s close.
- Scratching his shell gently, especially up by the shoulder blades, is like an automatic snooze button. He passes out within minutes.
- Second biggest crybaby to Mikey. It happens when he feels any emotion too strongly whether it’s happiness, anger, sadness, etc. and he hates it. Makes him feel weak, which is why there usually is a lot of punching involved too.
Donnie
- Can’t swim and is the only one who actively dislikes getting into the water.
- He and Leo have been studying how to speak and write Japanese together for years. Don has picked up a lot from all the anime he watches.
- Is the most emotionally open version of Donnie to date. He’s always telling his family how much he loves them without restraint and is the first to ask what’s wrong if he picks up on someone acting weird or trying to hide something.
- To compliment the above hc, he’s insanely observational, like Sherlock level. They don’t know how he’s able to do it but his attention to detail and his ability to take that and create plans and get a read on people is baffling. If Donnie doesn’t get a good vibe off someone, believe him and run the other way. (Makes him really good at those spot the different puzzles too lol.)
- Loves to dance just like his previous incarnation before him:’) Bootyyyshaker9001
Mikey
- Is actually afraid of cats…growing up with Splinter, who would freak out at the sight of them, only taught him to freak out along with him. They are sharp and unpredictable.
- Other than that however he’s an animal lover. Had a few pet fish through the years that he saved after being flushed.
- Practically canon but the most physically affectionate by leagues. Constantly seeking a brother, adopted mutant family member, or an April to cling to.
- Super into musicals and is a actually a decent singer

Never-Not-Commenting November
Tanthamoretober is COMPLETE. The archive collection is closed, and we had a truly incredible 101 works submitted through the month. We don't have anything up our sleeves writing-challenge-wise for November, but stay tuned for ~winterfest~ coming to a December and January near you.
Our challenge to all of you this month is to spend some time showing some love to the amazing works posted this month!!!
Introducing Never-Not-Commenting November, a silly name for a really important challenge: leave as many kudos and comments for works posted in October as you possibly can.
How does this work?
Browse through the works in the Tanthamoretober AO3 collection, and read them! Once you've read them, leave a comment telling the author what you liked about their story! Did you already read a fic and forget to leave a comment? Leave one now! Did you read it when it first came out and enjoy it again on reread? Comment again! However you feel it's most authentic to show love, we want you to show up and do that.
Will there be prizes? Will I get in trouble for not doing it? The best prize of all is the warm, fuzzy feeling you get from knowing that you made a Willow fic author feel happier. We are not going to be tracking commenting because it's too big a data management job; this is going to be on the honor system. We're not your parents, nor do we wish to be, but you will know if you cheat.
We will however be putting together some posts with optional commenting achievements. We trust you to track whether you hit these milestones on your own, and if you do, feel free to reblog the post - like giving yourself a badge.
Okay fine I like badges. Where are the badges? Links to come as the amazing stellar @myrebelliousphase works her art magic, but the milestones are:
Never Not Commenting November Novice: I left AO3 comments on 5 fics!
Never Not Commenting November Apprentice: I left AO3 comments on 10 fics!
Never Not Commenting November Master: I left AO3 comments on 20 fics!
Never Not Commenting November Knight: I left AO3 comments on 40 fics!
Never Not Commenting November Nice, Dude: I left AO3 comments on 69 fics!
Never Not Commenting November Semprum Sorceror: I left AO3 comments on EVERY fic in the tanthamoretober collection
I left some comments on fic in October, as people were posting. Can I claim a badge? Yes, of course! We still would like it if you try to leave a few extra comments through November, but obviously if you're trying to aim for one of the higher-count badges and you've been reading through the month, we don't want to make it impossible. What if I comment on other Willow fics that aren't in the Tanthamoretober collection?
We love that for you. Go nuts. Claim a badge. However, we'd ask that if you're commenting on non-Tanthamoretober stories, you only "count" comments you leave between November 7 and November 30.
I'm shy about leaving AO3 comments, do you have any advice?
If you're nervous about leaving a big comment, or if that's not your style, try practicing with saying a few words! If you already left kudos but want to let the writer know you reread it, even a simple comment saying "Leaving kudos, again, I liked this!" is a great way to share your love. Here are some prompts that might help you feel inspired to leave a comment:
was there a particular line or phrase that you liked? Why did you like it?
was there something else you liked about the fic?
Do you have a favourite small detail about the fic? Why? how did the fic make you feel? Do you feel comfortable sharing that feeling with the writer?
Did the fic each you anything? if so, what?
Is there anything else I can do to contribute?
Yes! If you're a reader feel free to make posts of fic recs. These are posts where you share a link to a story or stories that you enjoyed, and explain why you liked it to help other people find stories they might enjoy. If you are a writer who contributed a story to Tanthamoretober feel free to put together a roundup post of the stories you added to the collection during this time. If you tag us (@tanthamoretober) in your rec posts or roundup posts, we'll reblog them during the month of November!
Anything else?
This should go without saying, but we are trusting you all to be kind, respectful, and appropriate when leaving comments. No one likes unsolicited criticism, even if the intent is to be "constructive." The goal of this is to spread love and appreciation, and we expect you to treat authors with the care and gentleness that you would like to be treated with. If a story truly is not to your taste, you are not obligated to leave feedback.

If you've read that recent article on polygon about Candela Obscura - "Critical Role’s Candela Obscura fails to differentiate itself enough from its inspiration" (6 November 2023) - I don't know much about the other systems and have trouble being objective about things I love, I was wondering what your opinion is
Hi anon!
I have! I will also admit I don't know Blades in the Dark terribly well, or rather, I have roughly the same BitD knowledge as I have Candela knowledge: I've watched (or in this case, listened) to a actual play show run in it (TAZ Steeplechase) and I've looked at the SRD. The Candela full rulebook doesn't come out for a week, so I really can't judge it for myself. So this isn't going to be objective either, but hopefully it will point out what I think the flaws in this article are regardless of the merits or failures of Candela Obscura as a game.
I think my overall issue is what I said about Polygon on the whole earlier this week: it really feels like their metric is first, is this innovative; and second, "does this reinforce my pre-existing political values in a way that allows me to feel warm and fuzzy and virtuous because I played a fun game/watched a fun show and lets me continue to ignore that I haven't actually engaged in any of that tiresome and inconvenient meaningful anticapitalist action."
I also, for what it's worth, think that this mentality very explicitly conflicts with what Critical Role is doing. I think a lot of people interpret the whole "a group of friends playing games" image as encouraging parasocial behavior (which, frankly, is weird in that while the CR fandom has had a parasociality problem, it's no different than any large fandom - Laurisha shippers or the Twinnies & Husbands crowd are literally just the Actual Play Fandom equivalent of Gaylors and Larries; also like, the pitch for WBN earlier this year was basically "hey, we're four friends playing games" and no one has blinked at that, nor should they have) when I think it's intended to mean "we are friends having fun making and playing the games we want to play; it's great if you'll join us but we're doing what we want." Given that Polygon has shown something of a bias towards those shows that give them early access, I do think it might be that they're just cranky they're not being given any special treatment or catering by an actual play show they've been shitting on for years, and this is simply a vicious cycle.
All that aside, more importantly in this case, I think the article shows a notable lack of Ebert's law: "A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it." Samantha Nelson, the author of this article, appears to be both incapable of evaluating Candela Obscura outside the context of Blades in the Dark - which is frankly, in my again admittedly limited opinion, vastly overstated as an influence (the Forged in the Dark engine is certainly a strong influence, but that's purely mechanical and also it's still only an influence - more on this later) - and also seems to want Candela Obscura's rulebook to flesh out Newfaire and Oldfaire in the same way that Blades in the Dark fleshes out Duskvol.
The thing is, those wide-open spaces and the vagueness of OldFaire? That's deliberate. The Looper interview with Spenser Starke and Rowan Hall as well as the Tabletop News interview both make this clear. The aim of Candela Obscura is to be very easy to pick up, to not have a bunch of intimidating lore that players and GMs need to know before they jump in (and I say this as someone who, when invited to her first D&D game, was the person who read the PHB and sent the other new players a brief summary of each race and class; I love intimidating lore), and to accommodate a wide range of styles. They considered making Oldfaire much more detailed in the book and then decided not to so that GMs felt more free with the world. Again, my knowledge of Blades in the Dark is heavily skewed by an actual play of it that's explicitly not in Duskvol (which I think is a very interesting commentary, namely, maybe Nelson just really fucking loves Duskvol but no one else gives a shit). I genuinely think they are, as more and more Polygon TTRPG/Actual Play coverage seems to be, barely paying attention to what's in front of them and just deciding based on who put it out.
As I said in my earlier posts I do think Candela distinguishes itself from BitD in a number of ways mechanically. The gilded dice mechanic is obviously one of the biggest ones. The lack of flashbacks - a pretty core element of Blades in the Dark - is another. The fact that scars change your stats rather than dealing a permanent penalty (as Trauma does in BitD) is seen as a flaw, as is the lack of lair-building, but I think these things work in tandem. Blades in the Dark is very much about growing territory and becoming a more and more powerful crime syndicate; while four traumas will take you out of the game the same way scars will, there's a lot more opportunities to heal and I believe you have much more room to take stress. Candela Obscura, as another interview I read states (ScreenRant), is a gothic/eldritch horror game about normal people in unfathomable circumstances. You don't really get much better! You adapt, but progress against these monsters is always a long shot. Candela as an organization has been operating for millennia, and the war seems to be one of attrition, and the mechanics, from what I know from the show, reflect that.
The bit about the criminal crew and the lair is honestly kind of funny to me, because in the TAZ Steeplechase wrap-up I listened to last week the McElroys noted that the lair element of BitD was actually really hard to incorporate and they largely ignored it. Obviously that's not true for everyone, but famously D&D in the earlier editions guided high level play towards running one's own dungeon, and there is a reason that hasn't survived to the newer editions, namely, that shift from being a crew out there doing wild and exciting heists and adventures to painting the walls of your clubhouse and hiring guards is not actually fun for a lot of people.
So in summary: I really don't think the author of this article paid a single scrap of attention to the motivations behind design choices, is mad the horror game doesn't give them a kiss on the cheek and tell them they're So Good at Leftism (the comment about not understanding that the restrictions on scarlet aren't tied to anti-immigrant sentiment is particularly egregious), and generally is like "why is this game that shares some similarities but ultimately rather different goals than Blades in the Dark not literally Blades in the Dark but with slightly more aggressive ghosts."

Childe or Tartaglia X Tsundere Gender Neutral Reader | High School AU
a/n: SORRY FOR EVERYONE WHO TOLD ME A MISTAKE I MADE HERE I WAS HALF ASLEEP AND I DIDN'T KNOW 😭 THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME THO
Tumblr media
It all started when your second year of high school started. You expected another normal high school year. Just much more difficult lessons and possibly new students and teachers. It's not like you're gonna need to pay attention to their names or whatever.
Until that new kouhai (underclassmen) from Snezhnaya High moved to Liyue High. The very same high school you attend. Of course, you were planning to just ignore him and just focus on your academics and friends.
Until he confessed to you.
Out of nowhere.
In the middle of a bustling hallway.
In front of everyone.
“ You're absolutely beautiful.. Be my lover? ” He crouched with one knee, kissing your hand.
“ HELL NO!!! WHO EVEN ARE YOU?? ”
Ever since that encounter, he's been courting you in any possible moment. He'll find you during lunch time, class breaks, mornings before the school starts, even after school!!
“ You look great today, senpai! However, it'd look better with me beside you. ” “ Shut up!! ”
“ Do you wanna eat lunch together, senpai? I can feed you and maybe you can feed me as well! ” “ No way in hell I will!! ”
“ Senpai.. I might need tutoring in History. Can you teach me?? ” “ I'm busy!! ” “ But I just heard that you're free this weekend- ” “ Shut up!! ”
He flirts with you, talks to you, and even asks for tutoring every now and then, only for you to harshly reject him.
Of course, a lot of girls bash you for this. Calling you unpleasant nicknames, making up rumors about you which is obviously isn't true, and even push you to lockers. That's the least of your concerns, though.
It's the ginger's fault!! Ever since he came into your life, it's been disastrous like there's no tomorrow!
You hate every second of interacting with him. You hate everytime he talks to you. You hate everytime he sometimes helps you with your problems. You hate how he flirts with you, pointing out the little things about you that you've never paid any attention to. You hate how he makes you feel accompanied. You hate how he makes you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. You hate how he was always there for you, even in unwanted times.
Wait a minute.
No way.
Are you falling for him?!
No way! You refuse! There's no way you're falling in love with that stupid kouhai of yours!!
Plus, you know how the other girls look at him. He's probably a playboy, anyways. Yet, you can't help but feel a thousand arrows going through your heart when you thought about what he could be doing with the others.
He could treat others the same as you. There's no way he fell in love with first sight. It has to be a trick of some sort.
You refuse to acknowledge that you're in love with that stupid ginger.
This is probably just a puppy crush. That's right! It's probably just a small crush. It'll pass soon. You don't actually like like him! Bleh. Love. It's not like you have time for it anyways!
Tumblr media
It was just another day in Liyue High. As your English lesson teacher, Ms. Lisa, left the classroom. You knew it was a break between lessons. As you then expected your stupid kouhai coming through the sliding door.
Yet, he wasn't there. His bright ginger hair is nowhere to be seen. Nor is his signature smile. Surely he's just late, right?
But no. Your biology teacher came as 10 minutes had already passed, with your kouhai nowhere to be seen. Wait a minute, why are you expecting him in the first place?!?! Stupid [Name].
Time passed by like a snail trying to win a race with a turtle. It felt slow, and unmoving. Usually it passes by like a breeze. Is it because your mind is always occupied with Tartaglia's annoyingness? Tch. Whatever. He's probably just pranking you. Take your mind off of him, goddammit!
But then another day came, and another, and another. Yet Tartaglia was nowhere to be seen. You even took the time to go to his classroom! But his seat was empty. Confused, you asked one of his classmates.
“ Oh, Childe's sick. I heard he got a heavy fever. Probably because he fought with someone in the rain. I don't know. ”
Oh. No wonder he isn't here.
Tch, stupid ginger. Always going through stupid stuff. You've always prevented him doing his stupid ideas, solely because he always tells you before he does it.
Once school ends, you went to the Pharmacy to buy medicine. No, you aren't worried about him. You're just being a decent human being. No, you're not making him chicken soup because you're worried that he doesn't have the appetite to eat. You're just having normal human decency! There's a difference.
Finally knowing where Tartaglia's home is, thanks to his teacher, you immediately visited him.
Two taps were heard as you knocked at the front door. The door then flew open, revealing a ginger-haired woman who seemed to be in her middle ages. “ O-oh! Hello, I'm [Name]. Tartaglia's senpa- ” You were about to introduce yourself, but your sentence was cut off by the woman.
“ Ajax's lover!! ” She squealed. Giggling happily. Heat rose to your cheeks, shocked of her statement. “ W-What!! No, no!! I'm his senpai!! ” You profusely denied. “ Oh, don't worry dear!! You don't have to be shy!! ” “ I'm not- ” “ Come in, come in!! I'll lead you to his room!! ” Before you could even finish, Tartaglia's mother took your arm inside the house, leading you to his room.
Not even 2 minutes in, and you were already in ‘ Ajax ’s room. With his mother giggling at the other end of the door.
“ Oh? Senpai! What are you doing here? ” Tartaglia sat up from his bed, sweat dripping down from his forehead. Geez, what a terrible view. And even you wouldn't insult him.
Ok, maybe just one insult.
“ YOU IDIOT!! YOU ABSOLUTE MORON!! WHY DID YOU EVEN FIGHT SOMEONE, LET ALONE IN A HEAVY RAIN!! ” You hit the ginger at the arm, yet light enough not to actually injure him.
“ Ow, ow! Sorry, senpai! Ahaha! I just can't help it, you know? ” He laughed, before a series of coughs came out of his mouth. Causing you to face palm.
“ Geez, lie down you blockhead. Don't force yourself. Especially when your sick! ” You urged, pulling the taller male to the bed, forcing him to lie down.
“ Christ, you look terrible. ” You added, pressing your hand at his forehead to check his temperature. “ Geez, hot. ” “ Dang, not now, senpai! I know I'm hot but still- ” “ Shut up!! Not that, you fool!! ”
A moment of silence was shared, with Tartaglia's chest going up and down. “ So.. Ajax?.. ” You called, “ Hm? ” he responded. “ I didn't know your first name is that. How come you've never told me? ” “ You never asked. ” A slap made contact with Tartaglia's stomach.
“ Oh and, I didn't know you'd care for me enough to visit me when I'm sick. I always thought that you just view me as an annoying playboy, but I guess even you miss my presence, huh? ”
It was supposed to be a tease, and you know that.
So why the heck are you getting shy over it?!
“ I'm not!! I'm just being a-a decent human being! That's all!! There's a difference, you bonehead! ” Even though that was your usual remark, it wouldn't hide your obvious blush on your cheeks.
Obviously, Ajax noticed this. And he couldn't help but laugh over it.
“ .. And.. At first, I did view you as an annoying playboy. I've never received this kind of attention so I got suspicious of you. But.. I guess I did like your company. Not to mention that you seem really genuine around me. ” You muttered, yet loud enough for the ginger to hear you.
“ Oh.. That explains why you're always like that. Haha! ” “ Shut up, you idiot ginger. ”
“ Well, if you're still suspicious of me. We can spend time together. I mean, all the times we've interacted are always about me. Now, it's your turn. I've always wanted to know more about you, now's your chance! While I'm stuck on this bed though. ” Ajax stated, giving you his signature smile.
“ .. Alright, then. What do you wanna know, huh? But first, have you ate? ” “ .. Yes. ” “ Yeah, no, I'm not believing that. I made chicken soup. ” “ Wow, for me? ” “ No!! Don't get the wrong idea!! ”

Sisters part 8
Tumblr media
Sister ... Sister ...
You are such a good devoted sister ...
Helen walked home from her sister’s – it was only a couple blocks, fortunately, since she was feeling so spacy she didn’t think she could handle the car! – and puttered around the living room. She had told herself she was going to do some chores, but she couldn’t really focus. She just started humming to herself as she looked out the window, then rubbing her pants as she sank down on the floor ... after about half an hour, she blinked, and realized she’d been sitting against the wall, her mind far away, in a daze. She got up, still feeling fuzzy, and stripped off her top.
Aaahhh, that was better! She’d been so ... so tingly today! Floaty, and dopey, but also ... well, horny!! It was so strange!
“Just giggle, smile, and bare your boobs...”
What was that ... a snatch of song ... She could almost remember it but not quite! Maybe it was a tune from the collection she’d been listening to? There did seem to be a lot of earworms in the playlist ...
Helen had a sudden flash of inspiration. She grabbed the iPod and plugged it into the Bose, and turned it up. The music surged from the speakers, and she was swept away, dancing and spinning ...
Super Silly Fragile Minded
Sexpot Giggly Fuckslut
Some time later, she turned down the music and listened. Was that the door? It was! A frantic knocking turned out to be her beautiful, wonderful sister Lydia ... It didn’t even occur to her to put her shirt back on before opening the door.
Lydia was entranced. She came into the house, her head moving a little to the music from the speakers, staring with her mouth a little open at Helen’s full, gorgeous breasts. “Omigod Helen I couldn’t take it anymore!” she said, when she could refocus on something other than those nipples. “I vacuumed and I washed, and I just kept listening to the music, and you’re right, it just puts me in such a good mood!! And I suddenly felt this compulsion to come over and thank you!!”
“That’s great!” Helen hugged her tight. “But don’t thank me, it’s the least I could do, I love you so much!! I’d do anything for you!”
Lydia was almost crying. “I’d do anything for YOU!!” God, all the times they’d been cross with each other, the cool distance they’d allowed to grow between them ... she couldn’t remember how or why, all she knew was it felt so good to love her sister again. “Tell me what to do, I’d love to do something for you!”
“Ummm ...” Helen giggled with a silly thought. She’d just noticed she was topless. And instead of putting her own top back on, maybe they should be even. “OK, take off your shirt!”
She howled with laughter, because it was such a silly idea. She hadn’t really thought – but there! Without a moment’s hesitation, Lydia pulled off her blouse, right over her head, and stood there in her bra!
Helen was shocked for just a moment, then she doubled over, laughing. After a moment, Lydia roared with laughter too. It was SO FUNNY!!
“You little airhead!” said Helen.
Lydia had a wave of pleasure that left her dizzy. “Wow! That felt so good, doing what you tell me! Um ... do it again!”
“OK, uh ... Take off your bra!”
She barely thought about it – in moments, her bra was on the floor. She shuddered. “Ohhh my
goddd ...”
Helen giggled. “You like doing what I tell you, don’t you?”
Lydia nodded. Her brain felt fluffy. “It’s nice,” she slurred. Words drifted through her head –
compliant ... submissive ...
Suggestible ...
She focused on her sister’s face, as she touched her bare arm. She moved in closer, and put all of her thoughts into looking into Helen’s eyes. They were soft, warm ... and a little vacant. She was smiling.
She ... wanted her.
“I bet you’d like doing what I told you, too,” Lydia murmured.
Helen looked mildly quizzical. Their bare breasts touched. Her mouth opened slightly at the contact.
“Kiss me,” said Lydia.
And Helen did.
Fireworks shot off in Helen’s brain. “Fuck that feels so good!!” she said, as they pulled back. “I mean ... fuck I can’t kiss you you’re my sister but fuuuck it feels good to obey ...”
They danced to the music, touching, giggling, singing along to snatches of the songs when they thought, just for a second, they could remember a few words.
“I dare you to lick my nipple.”
“Think I won’t?”
“Ohh! Mmm ... that feels good. You dirty girl!”
“I dare you to suck on MY nipple!”
“It’s so pretty I can’t leave it alone!! Mmmm! Damn, it makes my pussy wet following orders!! Isn’t that weird??”
“Me too!!”
The corrupted, suggestible sisters groped each other, kissing and giggling at their daring. Another song came on, and Helen sucked obediently on Lydia’s tongue.
So when the cat has got your tongue
There’s no need for dismay
Just giggle, smile, and bare your boobs
They won’t care what you say.
Their eyes widened. “I love this song!” “Me too!”
They looked each other in the eyes and said together, “For example!!” and giggled.
“Yes?” said the woman on the iPod.
They chanted it together, staring directly into each other’s eyes.
“One night I sang it for my sister ...
And now I’m her ditzy drooling stupidhead horny sex slave!!!”
Both their mouths dropped open, as the music went on. They stared at each other.
Their conditioning locked in the suggestion.
Then their mouths met, and they were tearing off each other’s pants, pinching nipples, desperately groping each other as they fell to the floor ...
Sexpot
Giggly
Fuuuucksluuuut!!!
“Do you hear music?” said Chloe. She was standing in Kenzie’s room, leaning against the closet door.
She lifted her skirt – she’d been wearing skirts a lot more lately, it was just easier – and looked down at her sister. She tugged on her leash. “Hey, slut, I’m talking to you.” Kenzie obediently sat back on her knees, looking up with her shining face.
They’d been playing dress-up. Chloe had taken some photos for later publication on the internet, some for free, others behind a paywall. There had been costumes, toys, a little punishment. Now they were both getting their reward, with Kenzie licking her sister to orgasm. Kenzie would be able to cum as soon as Chloe did.
“Do you hear music?”
“Yeah, I’ve been listening to it for about an hour. It’s nice. Some of my favorites! From the living room, I think.”
Chloe nodded. She realized she’d been subconsciously aware of it for a while, but hadn’t processed it.
“That’s weird. So is Mom home?”
“I guess,” said Kenzie, standing up. “We should go see what’s going on.”
Chloe nodded, a little vacantly. Her mind was elsewhere.
“Yes,” she repeated. “We should go see what’s going on.”
Cum silly silly silly
Cum till you’re high ...
Chloe entered the living room, with her sister trailing behind her. Kenzie wore only a pair of lacy purple crotchless panties, and a black leather collar, which was attached to a metal chain. Chloe held the other end of the leash.
“What’s going on out here?” said Chloe. “Mom! Aunt Lydia! What are you doing??”
There on the living room sofa, where Chloe and her sister had teased each other in their nightshirts only a couple days earlier – there lay their mother, and their mother’s sister ... completely nude! And locked in an intense 69!
“What the fuck??”
Mom, on top, lifted her head from Aunt Lydia’s dripping twat, her face glazed with her juices, and smiled at her elder daughter, a little dazed. Chloe couldn’t help but watch the way her mother’s bare breasts swayed for a moment.
Then, Mom’s eyes focused with a snap. “Oh! Chloe!” She patted Lydia’s thigh, and Lydia’s face appeared around the side of Mom’s shapely ass. “Chloe! Oh!”
They both fumbled to stand up. It might have been comical under any other circumstances.
And suddenly there was a knocking at the front door.
“What ... what’s happening?” murmured Kenzie beside her. Chloe’s attention was being pulled in all directions at once; and she couldn’t quite focus, for some reason.
The music still poured softly from the speakers.
The knock came again, a sharp rat-tat-tat.
“Wh-what have you been doing, Chloe?” said Kenzie, as she gazed open-mouthed at her mother and aunt, naked, getting to their feet on shaking legs, their smiles lopsided and drunken. “Omigod, what’s happened to me?”
Chloe put out a hand, gently. Unfortunately, it was the hand holding the end of the chain. “We’re just having fun, Kenzie!”
“You’re having fun! I don’t understand what – what ... Ooh!! I cant think of the words!!”
She grabbed her leash from Chloe’s hand, and ran from the room, a single choked sob left in her wake.
The doorbell rang. Chloe’s head pivoted, wondering if she should check the door, or run after her sister.
Aunt Lydia and Mom had by this time disentangled themselves, and they were cooing over Chloe – stroking her, touching her, and seemingly unaware that her sister had just fled the room.
“Oh sweetheart, I’m so glad you’re home!”
“Chloe it’s so good to see you! Is there anything I can do for you?”
“No, please let me – I want to please you, Chloe, tell me what you need ...”
Both of them were pulling on her arms, and stroking her hands, touching her face and her hair – like zombies, or pilgrims at a shrine. Or fangirls at a convention.
“Get – OFF me!” she finally barked, with a wrench away from them. She ran to look out the window beside the front door.
A bearded face. A familiar face. As she watched, he looked impatiently at his wrist, then pounded on the door again with a closed fist.
“Helen?” he called. “Chloe! Anybody?”
Chloe turned from the window toward the other two, her eyes wide.
“Oh shit, we forgot,” she said. “It’s Dad’s weekend.”

The Reddit Q&A
Tumblr media
Because I'm a normal person with normal amount of appreciation for Renfield and Hoult, I went through this thread and pulled out all the replies that had to do with Hoult. Enjoy. Reddit thread
Putting it under "Keep reading" because long post is long.
Tumblr media
Hoult: I watched all of them but Dwight Frye is obviously such an iconic wonderful performance and one that I did try to take a lot of inspiration from.
Tumblr media
Hoult: They’re all difficult for different reasons. I don’t have as great an answer as that… but playing Beast was quite challenging simply because of the makeup. [To Cage] Which reminds me, I really felt for you in this. You took it in stride.
Tumblr media
Hoult: Something that I love is when you’re on a set and you open a drawer and someone has taken the time to write a letter. It may never end up on screen, but it’s so incredible that they took the extra step to make each aspect of the film feel more real and to make that moment special.
Tumblr media
Hoult: We were all (the cast) growing up together. So, whilst we were pretending to do all those things on the show and be those characters, outside of it, we were becoming great friends and experiencing all those things in real life. We were 16 and 17, so to share that time with those people and still be friends with them now is very special. I feel lucky to be a part of it.
Tumblr media
Hoult: Hmmm. I liked the first John Wick. Speed as well.
Tumblr media
Cage: I’m just going to go on record now, Nick is a hell of a dancer, and he worked his ass off to do this incredible dance sequence which didn’t make it into the movie, but it was brilliant. That was a lot of work.
Hoult: That was, yeah, that was a lot of work and rehearsals. Choreography came up with this wonderful fantasy sequence of Renfield dancing with bugs, just over the moon with love. But yeah, sadly it didn’t make it into the film but maybe it will end up as a deleted scene?
Tumblr media
Cage: No reason in terms of method, but the fangs were genuine fangs, they were ceramic and quite pointy. So I did bite my lip a few times which made me drink my own blood.
Hoult: I quite like the taste of my own blood.
Cage: There is something warm and fuzzy about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hoult: We were inside a church at one point, during a hurricane. It wasn’t paranormal, but it was eerie. We had to stop filming and all gather together towards the center of this church and wait out this hurricane.
Tumblr media
Cage: One of the recent ones, THE MENU, I just thought it was so delicious. That movie is about cooking so that is the right word. It was one of my favorite movies of the year. Darkest comedy in the most delicious way.
Hoult: Face Off, Con Air, Pig, Adaptation, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
Tumblr media
Hoult: There’s a line that she added (in a scene in the apartment and I was making her cookies) and she said “I don’t want your murder cookies." That was a very funny line that she made up. That gets me every time.
Tumblr media
Hoult: I like the idea of Frankenstein's monster, but Dracula would be up there as one of my favorites as well.
Tumblr media
Hoult: I mean he’s horrendous on some levels, but he’s also quite caring and nurturing on others. So it’s always a matter of perspective, isn’t it? If you saw a vignette of the nicest moments of their lives together it would seem picturesque and wonderful. And then at its worst it probably is horrific and as bad as it can get. So it’s both things at the same time.
Cage: I’m fairly certain that Dracula and Renfield had a few wonderful laughs together over the years. Big laughs? That’s probably the better word to use.
Tumblr media
Hoult: Thank you so much. In some ways, tonally, these are similar films and I love making those horror comedy/twisted genres. If you like those, hopefully you’ll like Renfield.
Tumblr media
Hoult: I learned today that Nick edited Shadow of The Vampire, which I didn’t know and I was surprised by it.
Cage: I don’t think anything surprises me about Nick Hoult. He’s making all the right moves and I knew he would.
Tumblr media
Hoult: For me? Hot and sour soup.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cage & Hoult: Both did all the time.
Tumblr media
Hoult: Oh I wouldn’t want to say a least favorite. I like them all.
Tumblr media
Cage: Thank you. You're great too.
Tumblr media
Hoult: To quote a great actor, '"Thank you. You're great too" -- Cage'
...
Thanks for the questions! We gotta go see the children of the night about a bite to eat - but make sure to watch RENFIELD, only in theaters on April 14th.

hiya! long-time admirer of you and your content! seeing others spread the love is inspiring! i hope this isn’t weird, but the way you interact with others and when you post your content always makes you seem very sweet? like you read like a very kind-hearted person! that, combined with your very handsome body always makes me feel so fuzzy when your posts appear on my dash. sometimes horny fuzzy but y’know! I’ve been watching you gain for quite awhile and I’m glad it’s been healing (if i am wrong, hunt me for sport /lh) for you, and that you’re enjoying yourself! you will always be handsome, no matter what size or weight you are. please have a fantastic wednesday and keep up the great work!!! 🕺
Thank you so much!! 😭💜 It's weird to talk about myself in terms of outward perspective, but I have always thought of myself as at the very least empathetic. I know that I am capable of deep compassion and connection, but like all Gemini, I do have the potential to bite hard when provoked. But I like to think that unless someone has made that list, I am very nice and strive to be friendly and welcoming, especially in this space. So thank you, I'm very happy to hear I come off that way, especially with most of my interactions over text.
I've had so many people come to me saying that I was someone who gave them the strength to give into gaining, or that seeing me find trans euphoria in gaining weight gave them hope for themselves, and so I do want everyone who comes across my page to know that I'm a safe person in this kinky little corner of the internet we've made here. Gaining has been a very healing process for me, as a survivor of abuse and ED's. The freedom to exist and thrive in the fat body of my dreams has been life changing, and I owe it to my younger self to be a visible and positive force that can hopefully inspire others to make that change for themselves. I'm glad I can also give you a warm (and maybe horny 👀) feeling to look forward to when I post my gains! 💜
Thank you so much for the kind words, it made my day. Take care, anon!

I’ve seen some folks come down rather harshly on Mon Mothma’s daughter Leida for being “a brat” but I feel like this ignores the serious problems in Leida’s family life that would cause her to react in this way.
First, it’s clear that Mon Mothma and her husband Perrin Fertha do not have a good marriage. It is effectively a loveless marriage. Any child growing up in that environment would have picked up on the hostility and resentment between the parents and it does not create a good environment for a child’s emotional development.
Second, given the dialogue between Mon Mothma and Leida, this is not likely to have been the first time these feelings have been spoken. There is likely a repeated pattern of Leida feeling like her mother is not there for her while her father is. Conversations like this do not just suddenly pop out of the blue, this is probably a continuous issue. One that Perrin hasn’t done anything to help reconcile but also one that Mon Mothma herself is not dealing with it all that well either. When your child is upset, telling them they need to just follow your orders and still keep to the schedule doesn’t exactly inspire them to feel warm and fuzzy towards you. And the reality is, given how much work is on her shoulders, there is the very real possibility that it comes at the expense of her family life, that she can’t always be there for her daughter because she has to be out there doing things to help save the galaxy and start a rebellion. And while we understand that importance as viewers, Leida is a child who doesn’t have our omnipresent outsider view, she’s a child whose mother is not there for her, and that cannot be easy and will take time for a child to truly grasp the bigger picture.
Third, Leida is actually not technically wrong either when she accuses her mother of just using her to show that she’s involved. We know that Mon Mothma is moving about contacting various people in building up this rebellion, and she knows she’s being watched. This means she has to carefully plan her schedule and use various events or people as cover, which is likely why Mon Mothma was rather upset at Leida changing the schedule. Because it changes the plan, she might have to use a new cover that isn’t taking her daughter to school and it might make things more dangerous. She knows the stakes but Leida doesn’t, so to a young girl whose mother is seemingly distant and a politician, it feels to Leida that she is being used, which technically is correct but just not for the reasons that Leida might think.
We know and love Mon Mothma for being this almost saintly rebellion leader, but I think it’s also just important to realize that she is not perfect to her daughter for very valid reasons too, and that’s okay. Just because she is a great leader doesn’t mean she has to be a great parent. It’s okay to let Mon Mothma have flaws, it makes her a complex and interesting character, and it makes us realize that there are consequences to choices she makes, even if some might mean putting more of a distance between her and her child.

Handmade
Welcome to day 2 :). I hope you like this little bit of fluff as much as I did writing it. I also hope you had a good weekend!
AO3
To say that Adrien treasured everything Marinette made for him was an understatement. He genuinely adored all of her handmade little gifts, placing them all carefully within a trophy in his room. Plagg teased him endlessly about it, asking how he could have two shrines dedicated to different girls.
Adrien always rolled his eyes, though. It wasn’t a shrine. He just wanted to keep all of Marinette’s special gifts safe. Somewhere he’d always be able to find them. Plus, looking over at them filled him with a warm, fuzzy feeling.
Slowly, Adrien ran his thumb along the good luck charm wrapped around his wrist. It was still something he carried with him daily as his treasured first gift from Marinette. Plus, seeing her wear the bracelet he made for her left him positively brimming with pride.
So, he decided that it was time for him to make her another little gift. Maybe she’d love it just as much as he had for all of hers.
Unfortunately for him, though, he was completely stuck. What would Marinette like? What could he make that wouldn’t look utterly ridiculous?
As he gnawed on his lip and pondered about what he should make for what felt like the hundredth time, Adrien suddenly felt inspiration strike. He could print out one of the pictures he had of them together on his Instagram and create a handmade frame. It was sweet, simple, and something he could definitely make without messing up!
Perking up, he quickly logged into his account, a soft smile on his lips as he saw the exact picture he wanted to frame. It was of them in the park where he managed to see her drawing right before he had to go to a photoshoot. His arm was around her and Marinette had thrown up an adorable little peace sign.
It was one of his favorite pictures of them and he was so glad he bumped into her that day. Feeling determined, Adrien quickly printed out the picture and set to work on gathering material for his frame.
“What are you doing?” Plagg asked lazily, floating nearby his head as he worked on the gift.
“Making a frame for Marinette,” Adrien quickly replied back, his tongue sticking out in concentration.
“Why? It’s not her birthday again, is it?”
He glanced up at his kwami amusedly. Plagg’s nose was scrunched up as though he couldn’t imagine the idea of it being Marinette’s birthday again.
With a chuckle, Adrien shook his head. “No, it’s not for her birthday. Though it is coming up soon.”
“If it’s not for her birthday, then why are you making her a gift?” Plagg asked, sounding rather bewildered.
He shot a glance over at the pile of gifts she had made for him that was still carefully tucked away. Shrugging, he turned back to what he was currently working on. “Just because. She’s made me quite a few things before for no reason, so I thought I’d return the favor.”
“Right.” Plagg snorted disbelievingly. “It’s definitely not because you want to see her face light up with your little gift.”
Instead of responding, Adrien simply gave his kwami a quick glare before returning back to his work. Luckily, Plagg left him to work in silence after that. Most likely, he was probably gnawing on a piece of camembert.
As Adrien slowly got closer to finishing, though, he couldn’t stop the small smile from getting wider as he imagined Marinette’s pleased reaction. Maybe... just maybe he’d be able to see her turn a beautiful pink as she thanked him for the gift.
Thinking about Marinette made the rest of the work go by quickly and soon he was putting on the final, finishing touches. With a prideful sigh, he stepped back, admiring his handiwork.
The frame looked great. It was made of thin wood, painted a sapphire blue that reminded him of the color of her sparkling eyes. Adrien had even glued some small, delicate white flowers into the corners.
Picking up the photo frame, he carefully wrapped it in pink tissue paper before placing it in a gift box. When it was tucked away, he slowly exhaled, hoping that Marinette would like it just as much as he did.
With that final wish, Adrien clambered into his bed, already anticipating tomorrow when he would give her the gift. As he drifted off to sleep, he couldn’t help but feel grateful for having Marinette in his life. She was someone he could depend on for anything and she always made him so happy.
The next day, Adrien woke up early, even more excited than usual to head to school so that he could give Marinette her gift. The drive felt slower than usual, the gift sitting heavily in his bag as giddiness flooded through him.
When he finally arrived at school, he waited outside the hallway, hoping that she wouldn’t be too late today.
At last, after multiple glances at the time and several teasing comments from Alya and Nino, Adrien spotted Marinette racing towards their classroom.
Her pace slowed down as she saw him, eventually slowing to a stop as she came to a stop in front of him. “Are you alright, Adrien? You’re not feeling sick, are you?”
That same, familiar, warm feeling fluttered to life in his chest and a smile bloomed across his lips. Stepping towards her, he shook his head and held the gift box out in front of him. “I’m fine. I was just waiting for you.”
An adorable frown settled across Marinette’s brow as she looked down at the gift and then back up at him. “G-gor me?” She shook her head, looking frustrated for a brief moment. “I-I mean is this for me?”
“Mhm.” He nodded, the fuzzy feeling growing bigger as her fingers brushed against his as she took the gift from his hands.
Marinette peeked up at him from beneath her lashes, her blue eyes glimmering at him happily. “Y-you didn’t need to do that. I-I mean, after all, it isn’t my birthday or anything.”
“I know,” Adrien hummed. “I was just thinking about all of the lovely gifts you’ve given me and wanted to do something small for you too.”
There was the cute pink flush that he had been looking for. Marinette nibbled on her lip as she slowly unwrapped the gift. “Oh, t-thank you, Adrien. That’s really sweet. I-I hope you know that I don’t make you those gifts expecting anything in return, though.”
Adrien simply nodded at her, before gesturing at the gift that she had unwrapped. “Do you like it?”
A mix of nervous elation settled within him as Marinette looked down at the gift in surprise. Her lips parted, and one of her hands came up to gently trace a flower that he had glued on. She blinked up at him with a wide, beaming grin. “It’s absolutely wonderful, Adrien. I love it.”
He beamed back at her, opening his mouth to reply when he was quickly thrown into a big bear hug from Marinette. His breath released him in a sudden woosh as she hugged him tightly.
“Thank you,” she whispered before releasing him just as quickly and ducking into class.
Now it was Adrien’s turn for his face to heat up. That warm, fluttery feeling he had before felt like it had been multiplied by ten. Maybe... maybe Plagg was right. Maybe his trophy filled with her gifts was more similar to his Ladybug shrine than he had thought.
Following her into the classroom, he caught her eye as he sat down, giving her one more shy smile before getting started on his classwork.

To Be Thankful
As strange as this is, this was actually inspired by an episode of Distractible, which is a podcast that I listen to. Their most recent episode was about being thankful for the small things. Just like... The little things that many people would think are meaningless and insignificant, but for some reason they just make someone so happy and sort of put the world into perspective for a moment.
So this idea is a little abstract but I thought I'd do like... If you were in a relationship with someone in the gang, what are some little things they might be thankful for that you do. Now obviously this sort of implies a lot about you, the reader, and things you might do, so if you can't quite relate I'm sorry. But I'm trying to find just little things that someone in a relationship with these characters might do for them that they're greatful for.
Confused? Good.
~~~~~~~
Arthur
~ Arthur is thankful for the way you smile at him when he comes back after a long job. You just look so happy to see him, it makes him feel all warm and fuzzy.
~ he's thankful for the way you help him take care of himself when he likely wouldn't. How you help him cut his hair or trim his beard
~ he's thankful for the way you bring him food when he's too busy to remember to eat. Pearson's stew may not be gourmet but it helps keep him going.
~ he's thankful for your idle attentions, the way you play with his hair while you read or lean against him while you craft something, or smile at him while he chops wood.
Dutch
~ he's thankful for the way you sit and listen as he vents, without trying to sway him any which way, but just to let him get it out.
~ he's thankful for the deep conversations the two of you can have late at night. The intelligence and insight you bring.
~ he's thankful for the way you keep his tobacco stores stocked. He never has to look for a fresh cigar or buy more pipe tobacco. You always make sure he has enough.
~ he's thankful for the sweet nonsense you whisper in his ear as you're drifting off to sleep, almost like poems. They'd mean nothing to anyone else, but he knows what you mean.
~ he's thankful for the way you can be independent from him, working your own jobs, not needing his attention all the time, but able to return to him just as easily and shower him in love.
Hosea
~ he's thankful for the way you always bring back herbs for him any time you leave camp.
~ he's thankful for the reverent way you view Bessie, knowing you aren't competing with a ghost, you're just another chapter of his life.
~ he's thankful for someone who will listen to him gripe without judgement, and when he's done complaining, you'll help him find a solution
~ he's thankful for the fact that you always bring him gun oil and a clean rag to take care of his guns
~ he's thankful for the way that you come to him, sitting on his lap around the fire or seeking him out after a job, instead of him feeling like he's bothering you.
~ he's thankful for the playful way you tug on his hair that lets him know you love him
Sean
~ he's thankful for the way you listen to his stories about his da, even if you've heard them before.
~he's thankful for the way you take his bottle, and he thinks you're about to lecture him on his drinking, only for you to take a swig and kiss him.
~ he's thankful for the way that you laugh and tease him just as much as he teases you, if not more.
~ he's thankful for how you took care of him when he returned to the gang, seeing how he was not the same Sean who left Blackwater.
