you lay on your unmade bed, revisiting the moments you noticed hyunsuk laughing and giggling with your friend while you shared your day off with them. hyunsuk found you in your room seeming a little distant and so he decided to ask you what was wrong.

“the way you were f… f…” your mouth was stuck on the letter, wanting to say flirting yet knowing that they were just being friendly, “fraternising with you know who all through the day,” you spluttered out.

he clambered onto the bed, his hand caressing your thigh and he came to a stop, kneeling beside you.

“it wasn’t like that,” he pouted with saddened eyes, “i didn’t realise that’s how it was coming off, i just wanted to seem like we were getting on.” his index finger fidgeted with the stitching on your jeans on the outside of your thigh, his eyes glued to that spot too. “you have nothing to worry about, y/n, i was just being friendly. i love you more than anything, okay?”

“you really mean that?” you pouted in return, sitting up and slightly ducking your head which drew his attention back to you.

he nodded sweetly, “and i’m all yours!”

“should we get out of here?” jihoon’s friend asked. you followed their eyes around the room as she gave every bit of art work a disgusted look. “afternoon tea is for old people, not really our thing, right, jihoon?”

you and your boyfriend exchanged a look, his grip on your thigh tightened, as if to warn you not to bite back at them, they had been having a hard time, but quite frankly you couldn’t care less right now.

“well, i’m just gonna go to the bathroom, maybe jihoon can join me?” jihoon politely smiled along, but the joke most certainly did not earn a laugh from you.

you both waved them off before you started to complain. “what the fuck, why did you even invite them this was supposed to be our date, which you organised might i add, can’t you see they’re obviously in love with you? i wanna go home, jihoon, i’ve already had enough of them.”

“y/n, they’re one of my oldest friends, they were never like this when i knew them, you think i’d be friends with someone like them?” he defended. you knew he wouldn’t associate with such a character, but you still couldn’t help but feel a little jealous.

you both eyed them as they returned to your table, bringing a wave of freshly perfume with them.

“this was my idea,” jihoon spoke, their butt not even touching the chair yet, “so i think you’ll find this is very much “my thing”. and if you have a problem with that, you can leave, in fact, you’d be doing us a favour.” his eyes narrowed as he spoke, every word oozing with confidence and protectiveness.

“new drink?” you spied the pink coloured beverage in his hand, knowing that was something he’d never ordered before.

“yeah, actually, my friend bought it but they didn’t like it so i basically got a starbucks for free,” he explained, proud of his freebie. “do you want a try?” he extended his arm, the chewed paper straw turned your stomach.

“did you chew the straw like that?” you asked in disgust.

“no,” he looked at it with a similar grimace face but continued to drink from it.

“so you shared a straw with your friend?” your disgusted expression didn’t change as you looked at your boyfriend, “you practically kissed them.”

he pondered on it for a while, knowing that the shows that you watch make a big deal out of this. “i’m sorry, y/n.” his smile faltered a little bit as he shrugged.

hearing his apology and letting it sink in, your eyes flickered from the drink and his lips, was it really that big of a deal?

“no, it’s okay, i’m sorry for getting jealous about something so minor,” you pouted, eyeing the drink once again, “if i get a new, unchewed straw, can i still try it?” you pleaded.

he nodded with a warm smile, excited to introduce you to what could be your new go to order.

you didn’t quite catch who the message was from, nor what it said, but you were absolutely 100% sure that you saw a heart emoji pop up on his phone. deciding to not be THAT kind of partner, you resisted the urge to pick up his phone, even though you knew he’d be in the kitchen for a while.

“your phone rang,” you lied upon his return to the sofa. you knew it was the only way you’d get him to check his phone.

he hummed as he stared at the single notification on his screen that was not a missed call, “no it didn’t, it’s just a-”

you cut him off by finishing his sentence “text from the other person you're dating?”

he looked at you in confusion, a smile tugging at his lips as he saw how serious you were.

“what makes you think you’re not everything i’ve ever wanted and more?” he asked. it did make you think, he’d never made you feel like you were anything less, but you couldn’t help but press further about the heart that you’d seen. “you're right it was from my other lover,” he giggled, that quickly turned into a belly laugh, meanwhile your stomach was doing somersaults “y/n, you just got jealous because of fast food.”

he extended the phone out in front of you and you ducked your head to read it against the light. “mcdonald’s rewards…” you pursed your lips, reflecting on your own,,, stupidity. “i’m sorry for accusing you of seeing someone else,” your eyes begged for forgiveness.

mashiho ･:，｡★ﾟ

mashiho’s lips nipped at your neck, straying further and further from the ear he’d been sweet nothings into only seconds before. usually, you’d melt at the affection, but your mind was elsewhere.

“mashi,” he didn’t stop despite you calling his name, instead replying with a light hum. “did you watch the game today?” you asked, even though you knew the answer.

he pulled away, looking up at you before sitting upright. “yeah, you said you didn’t want to so i went with…”

before he could finish, mainly because you didn’t want to hear him say their name, you interrupted him, “i know you did.” you distanced yourself from your boyfriend, dangling your legs over the bed before standing up.

“why are you being like this? you said you didn’t want to go,” his tone turned into more of a whine.

“but did you really have to go with them? you know they have a thing for you.” you replicated his whine, hoping it would help you get your point across more.

mashiho’s feet now playfully swung near to your legs, “love,” he spoke, looking up to you with a smile, “you know, it’s kinda cute when you’re jealous.” you couldn’t help but smile back. “and they absolutely, 100% do not have a thing for me, they brought their partner, and some friends, maybe it just looked like us two because you didn’t recognise them, but i assure you, there’s nothing to be jealous of.” his speech was slightly broken by a few giggles here and there, ones he couldn’t contain as he noticed your adorable smile.

jaehyuk ･:，｡★ﾟ

“there’s a kiss isn’t there?” you pressed, jaehyuk ducking his head and nodding sheepishly, feeling guilty that he’s landed a role in a drama with multiple kiss scenes.

“so what?” you blurted out, “actors kiss all the time, it’s not like there’s feelings involved,” you shrugged reassuring your boyfriend.

“y/n,” jaehyuk started, noting your crossed arms and quickening breathing. “i promise you, you’re the only person in the world that i ever want to kiss!” his hand tickled at your elbow, to which you extended your arm towards him.

he took a small shuffle closer to you as you now wrapped your arms over his shoulders, his hands at your waist.

he got closer, whispering “only you,” before locking his lips with yours.

you got to your tiptoes quickly, leaning into the kiss more before pulling away slowly. his kisses always did something indescribable to you, if you didn’t pull away then, you fear you might still be kissing him two hours later.

“you better not kiss them like that!” you joked.

asahi tapped your shoulder gently, distracting you from the inflight entertainment. your eyes followed his finger and landed on the passenger in the window seat next to him, whose head was resting on asahi’s shoulder as they slept.

“help me,” he quietly whispered, almost inaudible.

you shrugged and went back to the film you were watching, if you looked any longer you’d have to make use of the travel sickness paper bag.

“y/n, what do i do?” your boyfriend panicked some more.

“i don’t know, maybe wake them up and tell them you’re uncomfortable,” you didn’t avert your eyes, you were mad, but you weren’t sure who to be mad at. “why would they just fall asleep on a stranger, my boyfriend at that, don’t they know that’s really dangerous?” your voice got purposely louder as you spoke, drawing the attention of the row next to you, who then pretended not to listen. “they have the whole side of the plane to lean on, if they were gonna sleep they should have let someone else sit there.”

you glimpsed over to the sleeping passenger on more time, they seemed to be uncomfortable, revving up to turn over. as you opened your mouth to say more, asahi looked away.

“i’m not talking to you whilst you’re being like this,” he acted as though he was searching through the range of movies, stretching out the arm that the other person was sleeping on, which forced them to turn over, “alright?”

“bang yedam reveals his ideal type and MORE!” of course the title of the article caught your eye. unable to curb your curiosity, you clicked the interview transcript. you stopped in one place, right in the centre of your living room as you read on, which caught your boyfriend's attention.

“listen baby,” yedam’s chin dug into your shoulder after spying you reading his answers. embarrassed, you locked your phone immediately and turned to look at him while taking a few steps back. “i had to say something, right? you know there’s already rumours about me dating, they’ve got those blurry pictures of us,” he chuckled, “i thought if i said something way off that they’d lay off us for a bit,” he admitted, although you never even asked.

“umm okay,” you replied, not wanting to seem too relieved thanks to his reassuring explanation.

“the only reason why you’d read that is because you wanted to know what i said, wasn’t it? you already know everything about me.” you’d failed to notice that your boyfriend had closed the gap you created, his hand finding yours in an instant and swaying it casually. “i could have gone the total opposite and said boring, unattractive and talentless but that would have been a give away i think.” his smile was gentle and sincere, begging you to understsndsand.

“and you promise that’s the reason?” your eyes glistened as they met with his, searching for any tell that he was lying, yet failing to find a trace of anything but the truth.

“babe, i promise.”

“so i went in, shook their hand, and a kiss on bath cheeks, obviously-” which is as far as doyoung got in the retelling of the story of when he bumped into your sibling in the street.

“what do you mean “a kiss on either cheek” a handshake would have been just fine, you know?” you asked in a rather angry tone. “you’re not… meeting someone’s grandma.”

the look doyoung gave you was enough to shut anyone up. your brows furrowed as he continued. “they asked if i wanted to get coffee but i had something to do at the company so i said we should do it another time.”

“you wanna go on a date with my sibling?!” you shouted, still trying to process the kisses, to be honest.

“y/n, will you chill for a sec?” his hand soon made a tense fist, “i know they’re you’re family, so no, i don’t want to go on a date with them. i want to grab coffee sometime with you and them because that’s normal,” he explained, “we,” he pointed between the two of you to show you that’s what he meant. “have you had a stressful day or something? i swear you’re never normally this… jealous.”

you pulled your lips to the side of your face, taking a small bit of your cheek between your teeth as you nodded. you wanted to apologise, your eyes spoke for you and his softened, his flat hand now patting the space next to him on the sofa, inviting you there.

haruto ･:，｡★ﾟ

“do paper, they’re obviously gonna do rock,” you said to yourself, watching a video of haruto and a fan at a recent fan meet. you rolled your eyes as you watched your boyfriend change his answer to scissors after seeing their tightly clenched fist.

later that day, you went around to his flat and slumped yourself dramatically onto the beanbag in his room.

“why do you never let me win at games?” you asked, a bit out of the blue for him but you’d been planning to ask for hours.

“what?” he let out a laugh.

“you never let me win,” you pulled out your phone, finding the video you’d saved earlier, “but you let them win.” you pouted your lips which eventually turned into a frown as haruto watched back the clip with a smile, eyes flicking from the screen and to you to see if you were being serious.

“when you pay to see me, i’ll let you win,” he continued to laugh at your unwarranted jealousy, “you really think that because i let them win, they mean more to me than you do, or something?” he raised a brow.

“well no, that’s silly, but,” you started, but he cut you off before you could continue.

“exactly! so either pay up, or get used to losing.”

jeongwoo ･:，｡★ﾟ

“they’re seriously so pretty, i could barely even film the tiktok without going insane,” jeongwoo confessed, filling you in on today’s music bank gossip. “their stylist did the cutest makeup. I think it would suit you, y/n.”

you smiled, exhaling which you hoped would be enough to convince jeongwoo that you were laughing along.

“is something wrong? do you not like them?” jeongwoo asked in a sudden panic that he’d done something wrong. “yeah they’re pretty, but you’re so much prettier, i mean it, y/n, oh god.” he continued to flap about how he’d just been complimenting someone else.

“i’m sure they're lovely,” you smiled to your boyfriend as you handed him back his phone. he took it from your hand and tossed it onto the sofa.

“no, for real, you’re like the prettiest person i’ve ever seen, i can’t get over how beautiful you are.” he pleaded, even clasping his hands together at one point before looking down and realising he looked a little silly.

“they really are pretty though,” you bit a little bit of skin off of your lip, slowly realising that it’s okay for your boyfriend to compliment other people, because at the end of the day, he was still yours. “next time you film a tiktok with that group please invite me, i can’t believe i missed that!”

as per usual, you and junghwan were laughing about your days, filling each other in on what you’d missed.

“funny story, there was an actually a member of another group who asked for my number today,” junghwan started another story, which was absolutely NOT funny to you in the slightest.

your face sunk, you had so many questions that you wanted to ask. “really? who?” was the only thing that you could say. you feigned a smile, not wanting to dampen his mood.

“i’m not sure who they are, honesty, nor do i intend on finding out, but it’s just funny, right?” his answer assured you some, but it also gave you more confidence to ask another question.

“so they just came up to you and asked?”

he nodded in response, his enthusiasm not sitting right with you.

“you’re not jealous, are you?” he asked, sensing that the mood had gone sour. when you didn’t respond, confirming his suspicion, he chuckled. “i was really polite with my rejection, i even showed them a picture of us together, the one i have as my wallpaper, they said we were cute,” he giggled, “but in a strained way so i know they’re more jealous of you.”

auughhh and her lore if you wanna read below but I understand that OC lore isn’t everyone’s thing

OKAY SO she comes from a universe where her kind are robots made by a company to terraform planets for the ultra wealthy. So if you have the funds you can purchase a whole planet and whole armies of these little bots will shape it however you want.

BUT. While on the assembly line, before even recovering her directive, a portal opens up and throws her into this odd pocket dimension, which is just a half built city floating in a bright void. (Also when I say half finished I mean more like brutalist aesthetic with just concrete and no glass on the windows)

This place (named ‘Gearsky’ by locals because massive floating gears are the only thing that exist here outside of the city itself) is full of people from their own dimensions just trying to get by. She explores, and comes across a little bear being picked on in an alleyway. (The lil green bear [party bear] in the pics above)

She saves him and then it subconsciously becomes her prime directive to help Party Bear get home/care for him. So they set up base in one of the empty apartments and she just sorta takes care of him.

NOW. How do you get home you may be asking? Well it’s easy. You just need to beat someone in a deathmatch.

Enter the only form of entertainment on this island. The man who is the dictator of this place and subsequently the host of this game, aptly named Host, loves running this game. The rules are simple. 3 people enter, and two can leave alive. Only one needs to die, and the other two can get sent home. The only thing is, you have no idea who you’re going up against.

Now, RB, being a bot made to terraform, has some power behind her with her explosive abilities. But Party Bear has no defenses. So RB tries to strike a deal with Host.

She offers to kill both people in the ring with her for multiversal travel.

Host is intrigued by this offer, and accepts. After wiping the floor with her opponents, she’s granted access to all dimensions. She’s obviously excited and goes home to try and let Party Bear go home, but is heartbroken when she discovers that she’s the only one who can travel using the portals.

But this catches the attention of someone else.

Her future boss.

Another robot, by the codename TB-89.

He took note of her deal, and approached her with a job offer.

Man’s long story short she works for him as an assassin!

Thank you, guys! :D Yes, this is definitely a life-changing experience for Sebek. Or is it? I honestly like the idea of Sebek just erasing this image from his memory, not necessarily because he saw two people having sex, but because his young impressionable mind couldn’t compute the fact that one could do such things with his beloved Malleus, and Malleus would seemingly enjoy it. So Sebek’s desires awakened and then were immediately put to sleep by his own consciousness lol

But maybe he did remember… maybe he really couldn’t look at Malmal and Lilia the same way after this. Maybe the image is so engraved in his mind that he won’t be able to focus on anything after this lol

Oh SILVER THOUGH!!!... Yeah, he wouldn’t think much of it. Whatever Silver sees, he just considers it the norm, as long as it’s Lilia who does it. He definitely wouldn’t get affected in a way that our jelly king Malleus intended, but yeah, see it as a learning experience instead. They are really good together. One of our most favourite ships 😔

This would be fair to say about every Diasomnia ship, but their ehh situation is quite unique, and that makes it interesting. Not only because Sebek is Malleus’ guard; he worships Malleus, he uses Malleus and whether Malleus likes something or not as a radar for his own reactions. But it’s not like this is the way Malleus wishes to be treated: he gets annoyed with Sebek sometimes (and sometimes he gets amused and enables him to continue, but, again, this is just amusement he gets from this silly young man). But Sebek is so completely delusional that he’ll put all his passion and energy into something if he believes that it would make Malleus happy. Even if it annoys Malleus so much that he runs away lol This is both fucked up and hilarious.

Like I said, we’re not planning anything for now. So we haven’t thought about who we would draw next. It depends on my inspiration and energy; once again, overblot boys are difficult to draw and take a lot of time.

Realistically, it may be AzuIde. But one can’t predict anything when it comes to stuff like this. Definitely not KaliJami, since that’s where you’re getting, they’d probably be the last on the list.

Thank you, Im glad you like my work! Well geez I have a lot of favorite pieces of mine. I’m not sure which one is truly my favorite, but I have a few recent ones I’m pretty proud of. (apologies for not replying sooner, I didnt get this until now)

My jack stauber piece. I really liked what I did to the background with the stars and overall the composition of it. I remember listening to him back in 2018 when I was younger. It was kind of a light bulb above my head pointing my finger up “EUREKA!” moment because I completely forgot about him and wanted to draw someone at the time. I needed to draw him, so I reviewed one of his videos (which was his el dante video) and had to keep pausing frames for a good reference photo to draw him LOL. It was a cool video though with the visuals with the silly little fella. I love his music and his artstyle in his videos so much, he really inspires me into my work. So dont be surprised if I do draw him again, he is so fun to draw. One thing about my artwork is that sometimes the final product does NOT look like the original piece, so here is the traditional piece before and the final piece after.

My syd barrett piece. I like how this one turned out, I went really in on the detail in the background, and overall it was a fun to draw! you can tell I really enjoy drawing backgrounds in my art, it brings the piece together in the end :-) One fun fact about this drawing is that the quote is from Pink Floyd’s song “One of my turns” because I was listening to that song while I was drawing this! I started listening to pink floyd 1 and a half years ago, and still dont really know much about the band, but I remember I was looking up the singer of the band and it was syd barrett. but the day I drew this is when I realized he died. I was shocked because Im still a new fan, but bro. Everytime I find a super cool band or artist, I always end up finding out the singer is dead or something.

My Luke Crain piece. I always look back at this page in my gallery. It just looks so cool with the ravens flying across the page with the feathers and everything. The “are you okay?” bubble was such a great touch too Im so proud of that little detail. The reason why I drew this is because Luke (the character in the page) had such a interesting backstory and I felt strong emotions towards his character. He has a drug problem and his family doesnt really involve him much in events because of that. It just makes me feel dread for him, because you can tell he’s depressed in the series, and he wasnt even a “bad drug guy” more like a “sad guy that uses drugs to cope”. I feel like I can resonate with him because I feel like that way sometimes too. Feeling like a outcast from the rest of them or that something is wrong with you. I know that sounds cheesy lol, but its just that I felt so bad for him. Thats why this one is my favorite because it kind of means something to me.

Okay thats the rest of my yapping, but whoever actually read all of this Im happy that you did! It makes me feel good that someone is actually interested about the process about my art or in my art in general.

hello! Admittedly I rushed this a bit I’m not as sure about these as I was about 🌾🪶 Phil’s but I took a swing we’ll see if I missed later I guess. I tried to include as many artists as possible so you have plenty of people to look through since you said she was a bit insatiable when it came to music! I did phone in the last few songs like the lullaby-eque ones. yeah again this was a bit of a mess on my end. Though I have been writing down songs for this for a while I didn't have an easy time narrowing down things as to what I wanted to include so at this point I've just thrown my hands in the air and declared it done now. okay so I kinda cheated my self imposed rule of one song per artist but in my defense I couldn’t choose between Moonlight and Paperwork… They’re my two favorite Fish in a Birdcage songs and I thought both were kinda fitting so oh well both of them are there.

Anywho I could go on and on and on about how I was this close to fighting myself to the death (<- hyperbolic) over this. Let's just get to other recommendations I didn't put on for one reason or another.

Starting with musicians I put on there but didn't include a song from for whatever reason:

Myxrite! My personal favorite song Now and Again doesn't look like its on Spotify at all so uh yeah I'm linking it here because I like it a lot.

Bug Hunter is on there too but he's currently in the top ten of my favorite musicians so yeah here's more suggestions! Go With The Flow and Listen to Your Mom pretty high up there in terms of my favorite songs. Making Up Words is one of my favorites lyrically (though I must say that Disco in the Panic Room is up there too), and of course I have to mention Try My Best and Slow Burn because I keep using lyrics from them to inspire drawings (that I'll never post anywhere online). Okay fuck I need to move on before I link literally every single one of his songs lol

Same as Bug Hunter, The Narcissist Cookbook is up there in terms of my favorite musician + he put the MOTH album (one of his old ones that wasn't on on youtube yet) on youtube recently so he's been in my head a lot. Ghost Stories and UNWELCOME GUESTS (warning: unwelcome guests starts with a phone ringing noise idk my friends always get surprised by it so I'm just gonna mention it in case) are rahgjagh they are so good they exist in my head rent free

Madilyn Mei has been on loop in my head cause a friend of mine. Anyway Six Legs (tippy tappy toes) and Sleeping in the Kitchen. just live in my brain now because of them lol

The actual recommendations that aren't just more songs from folk on the playlist already:

I Fight Dragons! I fucking love them! Their music tends to have techy/8-bit noises and they're a bit more on the rock side of things but their stuff is really good! Good Morning Sunlight and Oh The Places You'll Go... They are the most <3 to me forever... Sunny Afternoon too... God I love IFD I need to make my friends listen to them with me more

If you like IFD you may also like Jonathan Coulton or the portal song guy as my friends know him lol. Nobody Loves You Like Me or Now I Am an Arsonist or really anything from the Artificial Heart Album is always my go to for showing people besides the songs from Portal (Still Alive and Want You Gone) that my friends know.

Similar to IFD, a lot of Going Spaceward's songs have techy noise in the like proper releases, but his youtube has a lot of acoustic versions of his songs that don't have those. His covers are good but really most of his music is just funky. Uh since I will absolutely not narrow this down in any timely fashion I'm just going to link the entire Can You Hear It Album and uh Count Past 23.

Joseph Dubay is a musician I only got into like a few months ago but I really like his stuff, kinda similar vibes to what i was going for with this playlist but a lot of his songs just didnt fit the vibe so I didn't feel like adding them. That being said I am obliged to tell absolutely everyone I talk about music with to listen to Pastel Goth and 4evr so yeah.

Completely different vibe but San Fermin may be of interest to y'all! Astronaut and The Woods are the ones I listen to most from them but everything about their music just scratches the brain itch for me. Their stuff is indie rock which is kinda in the genres of the bands you mentioned!

A bit of a different suggestion but since you mentioned her liking soundtracks AZALI might be a cool youtube channel to check out! They make short songs in FL Studio and idk I'll be honest I don't listen to soundtracks or things like you mentioned in that part of your ask but I do listen to every upload AZALI makes and I think they're all pretty neat. The songs are all like a minute or two long but I like to just put them on loop when I'm writing. Truth, Violence, Warmth is my go to for writing for this specific project, but Mechanical God was how I found their channel and I'm just fond of City of Shattered Glass so there those three are my suggestions.

hhhhh so im on a ridiculously long ride home and just my phone so tumblr diary entry time lol. if you have my instagram this will make more sense but yk. anyways. so yesterday was the last day of the semester and i was tbh pretty normal abt it. but leading up to it i was a mess and tbh i think my stomach issues actually came more from the stress of knowing im leaving but the alcohol seemed plausible enough an explanation so i ran with it. but nah i was just. hhhh overwhelmed. bc anytime i was out with ppl it disappeared and as soon i was alone and not busy i was like. oh theres the stomach pain. LOL. but yea. so i decided my going away present to everyone would be a drawing of them plus a message bc like. i always said i liked art but never rlly showed my classmates my art so i was like. welp lets go out with a bang. and it felt good bc i really wanted to do smth like this sooner. my initial plan to make a good impression was to print stickers of my art and put my IG on it and get close to ppl that way. but i was just far too stressed and thought itd be weird. so i just. Didnt. and i regret not putting in enough effort at the beginning. but i also feel like its okay, especially given my upbringing. i needed that time to myself to figure it out, and now i really know that i can just. talk to ppl. and not be afraid. bc the ppl i got closest to were the one i swore would judge me most bc of my own preconceived notions, but i told the the parts of me i hid the most and they accepted it. and could at least sympathize and actually relate and i just. why was i so silly. why was i so mean to myself to be convinced that i was so unacceptable that no one except for those who already knew me could accept me and enjoy my presence? i was so silly. i wont do that again, but if i do, it will still be easier than doing it this time bc I'll recognize the patterns and quickly snap out of it.

in a way, i really do feel like i needed all this time alone to process myself and rlly look myself in the eye and recognize the ways ive lived that i can just stop doing now that i have the freedom to be free of my past. and part of me feels like I'm saying that as copium bc i didnt connect sooner and i possibly could have also had a better time with others and still have come to realize the same things and more through the help and company of others. but i also know that i cant live life always thinking so much. so i just need to live and let the regrets be what they are, and move forwards. but the regrets do indeed linger. like i made the decision not to stay in taiwan. bc of well A. money and B. i felt like if i had more time I'd just fucking waste it like i wasted the first 4 months. i might as well force myself into a corner and see if that would make me do things i was too scared to do otherwise. and like, it worked! i did say fuck it and rlly just let loose bc i was gonna leave but now its worked too well. and like i wish soooo bad that i had those 3 months to fully enjoy every chance working out. Part of me says that its best to leave with that hope. rather than have taken that chance and it fizzled out. the thing keeping me from extending the most was honestly knowing I'd have my birthday there. and i could not take the possibility of spending my birthday alone... i legit couldnt stomach it. in the past i used to spend every bday alone but in recent years ive had a mazing friends that actually made my bday special and i just. I'm so used to having that day be nice that i really couldnt take the possibility of it being awkward. but now i realize that it wouldn't have been like that. it couldve been wonderful. but thats okay, in another life. or maybe a few years. who knows. im considering doing smth like this again in like 2 years after I've worked a bit. i have nothing but time. but man. sometimes i just wonder yk.

and last night i had a rlly good one on one talk with my classmate and that was amazing, but i got home and checked IG like a dumbass and say another group of classmates partying til 3am and i was like.... man i should've done that. but like, logically no. i had a great night regardless and i partied with those classmates last week. ive had my fill, and i had things to do today that i needed to be coherent for. but i couldn't help but thinking what if. and i know its not so easy to kill that voice inside my head. its always gonna be there. its not just me, thats the devil of SNS like instagram. bc you see the best parts of everyone's lives at all times and feel like you're missing out but you're not. you only see a sliver of what it really was..but yea. its okay. I'm still so very young. and i just need to treasure now and take whatever chances i get to nourish the connections i have right now and put yourself out there to make new ones when the chances arise. its okay, there is not life that can be lived without saying goodbye. but damn, yesterday at the school gates two of my classmates hit me with the さよなら and that. man i felt it in that moment. theres so much i wish i couldve said in all that time we had to spend together but i just held my tongue bc i was scared. but this was really playing social interaction on hard mode, like the cultural differences, the language barrier, the introversion, the fact it was my first time on my own fr, just, there were soooo many factors working against me specifically. and fuck man, i still did it. and i am still so young, i really can do whatever i want. it feels so weird. ive only been here 6 months but in a way it feels like this is how its always been. like the fact that im going home feels so strange. like i havent been there in years, i honestly cant fully grasp that im gonna be in a place where i speak the language fluently and am fully aware and familiar with my surroundings. like, why does that feel so odd. it does, i legit dont even know how to feel besides strange. i just have a strange pit in my stomach. but its okay. it will pass as everything does. but these days will always live on inside me as everything does. even if i can't fully recall it. so i just have to keep going as always. god. life is trippy man. but yea. Yea. thats it. i think

time for some blog lore..... THIS IS GONNA BE KINDA LONG AND RAMBLY SO BE WARNED-

Before this account was made, I actually had a different tumblr account for personal use (I never log into it anymore though lol) instead of writing. I was in the LMK fandom at the time, so I was reading x reader fics EVERYWHERE I could, from wattpad to tumblr to ao3.

And wouldn't you know it, when I was scrolling through the tags on tumblr I saw someone promoting their newly written fic they made on ao3!! I read it, loved the premise, and left a kudos and a comment (I think I left a comment? I'm not sure, I was a lurker as well when it came to reading HSDHSD).

Not too long after, I was scrolling through their blog and saw a post of them asking for any possible writing friends to interact. I thought 'hey!! i can write!!' and promptly sent them a dm. We chatted over our brainrot of the stinky monkeys and we grew to be pretty close writing buddies!! I even got to come up with a ship name for a pairing in the fic (the pairing was Macaque and Y/n, and Y/n in the fic was a baker, so I proposed the ship name 'Mooncake'. Still super proud of that ngl!! I'm pretty sure I made one for Wukong and Y/n too, but I forgot what it was </33 Mooncake was just so iconic to me).

We bounced off ideas from each other, and I sent them posts about Wukong (they were a Wukong Apologist and honestly, slay), and one of them actually managed to influence their characterization for him in a later chapter!! I was even writing my own LMK x reader fic at the time, and while I gave up on it after a while, they were the first person to ever read the first few paragraphs and gave me their thoughts.

Eventually, I had an urge to make a whole blog dedicated to x reader writings because I was inspired by them to make one, and when I told them they told me to go for it!!

Here's where the important bit comes in: This person's blog was themed around Sun Wukong. They're a Monkey King lover, they fucking love that stupid smelly monkey man!! So I told them "hey wouldnt it be funny if my blog was Macaque themed so we could match?" and they went "DUDE"

And boom!! That's the reason why my blog is Macaque themed!! I went through a LOT of custom tumblr themes (you know where you open someones blog and instead of being the regular tumblr blog layout its a totally new one that they customized themselves? Yeah that was me), meanwhile my friend just stuck to a simple 'Wukong pfp + header and orange background'. I think that matched our character themes really well HAHSAHSAH

Unfortunately, I'm sure that my friend is not working/active anymore. Their last post on tumblr was them apologizing for the lack of updates because of art school, and that was it. I don't know how long it's been since I checked up on the fic, but when I did, I found that their ao3 account was orphaned. So it's probably safe to assume that theyre not coming back to their tumblr acc either.

But still... I kept my Macaque theme. Even when my LMK interest started to fade and other media took over my brain, I refused to change it. Idk why, sentimentality I guess? It just felt wrong.

I have no idea where they are now, honestly. I just hope theyre doing okay. They were a super cool person, and I loved their fic and I loved talking to them and I loved being their friend!! Even if they probably wont see this post, I just want them to know how much of an impact they had on me. It was because of them I made this account, and got into writing requests and fics. And even if that didn't work out, they got me back to writing in general! They were an awesome person and they deserve everything good in life!!

Augugh this got sentimental... My bad!! Ngl, I've been secretly waiting for someone to ask me why my blog was Macaque themed, but the chance of that happening was really slim so I held the Blog Lore™ in. BUT NOW I CAN FINALLY SAY WHAT IVE BEEN HOLDING IN FOR YEARS RAHHH

Oh!! And since ur a Wukong lover as well, you should read their fic!! It's unfinished, but I think you should give it a shot. The chapters are long, the writing style and interactions between characters are great, and the development and pining is well done!!

I realize that this sounds biased, but ermm..... IDC GO READ THEIR FIC!!! (/nf) Kudos and comment bcs they deserve it!! Even if they dont get to see it, I'd like to at least cheer them up on the off chance that they do.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Sup guys! I’m Ben, and I’m one of the craziest people you’re ever likely to meet. No really, I’m pretty sure I am. I mean, not many other guys would be willing to sing on a table in front of all their friends or dive down a giant’s throat, and therefor that makes me special. I love acting, gaming, and hey if you’ve got YouTube then you should totally check out my stuff because I am ALWAYS looking to up that follower count. It’s mostly original shorts and things, but I think if enough people start spreading my work I could really make it big. What else what else...oh! I can play harmonica, which is a skill few have mastered and I am very proud of it.

12. What’s your favorite part of being nommed?

Well what’s not to like! I mean, sure some of my friends think I’m a bit weird for enjoying it so much, but I think they’re secretly just jealous I’ve got the best spot to nap and play splatoon between classes. It’s warm, soft, and call me crazy, but even the slime is pretty fun once you get used to it. Plus I get to mess with James and listen, seeing how embarrassed I can get him with a few simple little pokes to his stomach is always a highlight of my day.

Hey everyone, my name is James, and I guess the most interesting thing about me is that I play football. It’s...more of a hobby than anything really, but I love the exercise and it’s a great way to make friends. My favorite thing to do if I ever end up with some free time though is taking care of my plants. It’s a little silly and boring sounding maybe, but for me it’s also very relaxing. Which I think is important you know? I mean, I like hanging out with my friends, but I need my alone time as well from time to time. I also really like cooking and eating new foods. Again, that’s also more of a hobby than something serious, but there’s just something so fun about creating, well, art, with something most people take for granted.

He’s pretty wiggly too, and while I’d be lying if I said the movement didn’t feel nice, sometimes it makes him a little hard to swallow. Mm, he’s also loud. Like, really loud. The second he realizes he’s about to be eaten he either launches into extremely dramatic ‘oh woe is me’ mode, or starts cackling like a madman. Not great for when I’m trying to avoid attention I’ll say that much. Even after I’ve got him down he practically never stops moving or talking, even in his sleep, and it can be pretty distracting when I’m trying to study. Would not recommend eating him before a test I’ll say that much.

14. When being a pred, do you take your time? Or do you like to hurry the process along?

Well, I suppose I tend to take my time. That is, I don’t really like to eat someone as fast as possible often. I’ve done it before of course for games and such, but sometimes that means they’ll get stuck or I end up with a sore throat, and it just...isn’t a fun experience. But I definitely eat faster than some other friends of mine, so maybe I’m somewhere in the middle? It’s hard to say. I do enjoy savoring Ben in particular when I can though. He tastes so good and...gosh this is embarrassing, but sometimes I’ll get cravings specifically for him you know? And when that happens I definitely go a lot slower than normal.

So apparently, those numbers on the players jerseys actually tell you what position they play! I thought it was like, idk, a way to keep track of how many people you had in the whole team or something hwjhfdhbd but NO!

Anyways after talking with a friend of mine who is very knowledgeable about the physical attributes you need for different sports ball positions, we decided James is a tight end. Basically, in the most basic terms possible, they’re the players that are big enough to block linebackers and defensive ends but athletic enough to run fast and catch passes. They also tend to be on the taller side. So the number on his jersey is basically just there to tell you what he plays

I think there was some change that happened in 2021 that redid the number system but honestly I don’t care that much lol. Most stuff said 80-89 is the correct range for a tight end so I went and picked 84. Idk why that number specifically, it just felt nice

i dont really know what all i can share from my current poly fic plans other than the fact that i think i'm going with a genuinely bittersweet ending? plus the fact that some of the scenes i already have envisioned for poly fic involves alternate perspectives on various scenes seen throughout the different parts of UtS if tht makes sense. i kinda called it pulling back the camera mentally while i was planning it the first time around (my example is... literally a scene i cant talk about bc it happens early in cheol UtS haha its not a major spoiler but i'll leave it obscure for now). theres some angst from tension planned tho that im rly looking forward to writing <3 but i think like... idk if its a major spoiler, but i feel like a huge part of UtS is acceptance? and i think that really comes through in poly fic <3

I took so much time to answer I’m on holidays now :’) feels so weird to have that much free time in may… If you’ve had the appointment by now, I hope it brought good news (or, I suppose, as good as possible in this situation) and if it hasn’t happened yet, I hope it’ll go well. I wish I could help you with that, but at least I’m glad our correspondence is bringing you joy :)

Honestly, there might be a lot of them, but I don’t really do anything with my OCs, they just float in my head lol. Sometimes I draw them or I talk about them, a few have Pinterest boards for how they'd dress or toyhouse pages (I wanted to create TH pages for everyone but I don't have art of most of them so it's not happening anytime soon unfortunately) and one or two are used in other stuff like Cécilia who I used to play in a DnD campaign and is now an NPC in another campaign, but mostly they're just there for me to have silly little fantasies about. Meredith and Cécilia are for general stuff, a lot of projecting, thinking about QPRs and fun flatmate stuff; Alex, Laë and Adrien are for cute romance stuff, sometimes more spicy stuff if I'm in the mood, or soulmate AUs; Ophelia has problems with her parents and adventures with Oswald; Aster is all the dramatic stuff but also boring work things that he gets to be all 'drinking wine in your cool chair at 1am' about; Alex also gets a lot of family bonding and shenanigans since I gave him a big family (it keeps extending... I gave him one more sibling and a few cousins since last time and I'll probably keep adding to it...) The only one I really actually use is Cécilia, because while I don't play her anymore my friend started another campaign in the universe of the one where I played her in, so I’ve given them my opinion of what she would say when they’ve asked. Mostly I create them for the sake of creation, because inventing a little guy and doing whatever you want with them is like playing with dolls or petshops but you decide what they look like hehe.

The 'drawback' with making all of my OCs for daydreaming purposes is I tend to gravitate towards characters in a very - set? period? Like, you know how fandoms tend to have specific moments at which they prefer to write characters, before or after they change a lot, when they're still alive, when they're still talking to another character? Not all fics use this 'ideal state' of characters of course but like, you'll see a lot of Obikin set during the Clone Wars but Ahsoka's still there, or a lot of Johnlock before Sherlock fakes his death in S2, that kind of thing? It's like the characters have a default state? Well mine are all kind of like that, and there's not a lot of story around it. They almost all live in the same world at the same time, so at best they'll have a past where they became who they are now, but they're all a bit stuck. Meredith grew past a lot of her insecurities, Cécilia has a goal of becoming powerful and cool but it's for a very distant future, Laë Alex and Adrien are dating and they're young but they probably won't break up, Alex's sister's kid is going to be a toddler forever, etc. They're all relatively nice and doing okay, because I personally don't daydream about people being mean and suffering, but that makes them a little flat sometimes haha. A bit like we’re seeing them at a set point in the story, but never going forward, only seeing them at the beginning/middle/end of their story but not the rest. Which is why characters for a story sounds so interesting to me! If you put them in a story you need to know where they start and where they end and how they change in the middle, there's a few moments where they're at their 'ideal state' and then they keep going, and that's so cool! Though that must mean you’d be creating them very differently, less ‘what are their vibes’ and more ‘what’s their fatal flaw’

Right right right, the amatonormativity is there and I think it would be a little funny to throw poor Reil in all of that. The conflict between “Jedi don’t form attachments” so being aro is ‘useful’ because that does eliminate a type of attachments, but also still being surrounded by people who date and swoon over crushes and have romances (because personally I’m firmly team ‘attachment is when it’s too extreme, Jedi are allowed to have fun as long as it doesn’t interfere with their duties’ so I imagine romances are a thing, whether they end quickly or they manage to last.) And yesss making characters a bit like you is so so cool!! Tbh I can't believe I first thought about giving Meredith a boyfriend because she's the most self-insert of my OCs! Though even back then I knew that would just be wrong so I didn't and then I realised some stuff about myself haha. I also thought I wasn't aro because I'd like some kind of life partner and romance is fun, which wasn't helpful lol. But yeah I’ve seen the sentiment of ‘I thought being aro/ace was hating/being completely oblivious to all that stuff and I was okay with it/got it fine so that meant I couldn’t be aro/ace’ and 1) mood 2) good example of why it’s so important to talk about those definitions because, I’m so glad to see those identities talked about more.

The OC post hadn’t been written but I think you’ve seen it by now haha. I don’t post anything besides +/- finished art on my artblog, so for anything OC related it’s on my main in the ‘wow i have an ocs tag now’ tag!

The vampire OC is Meredith, she's my little self-insert <3 Technically you could argue that since both her and Cécilia are really similar to me and they're not-dating-but-also-not-not-dating it's a bit weird but hey who cares. She's 52 and a potioneer/alchemist, she has a cat called Theo, a lot of friends, long hair and skin problems, she's aroace and she owns her own shop. Since she's a vampire and she has sensitive skin most of the time the only parts of her body not covered by clothing are like, her hands/fingers and her face more or less, she wears a lot of long sleeves turtlenecks and tights/trousers. That's not actually how I wanted to dress when I was younger, I said that because she also wears relatively poofy skirts and cool gloves and ballgowns and boots and jewellery and mostly dresses in black and red and dark colours, which IS closer to what I wanted to dress like (and still do tbh. How lucky she is to have an actual adult job that gives her money to pay for cool clothing and accessories...) Most of my OCs dress in styles I love actually, whether it's the guys who are literally just a guy and dress like that (the graphic tee/hoodie + cargo pants, a singular pair of sneakers and one vest that's too light for the winter, you know the type? Literally just a guy. Love that vibe I’m obsessed with it for some reason) or the elaborate dresses or the hair colours I can't really do because I don't want to bleach mine, or the clothes sharing or the jewellery or the gay poet/pirate shirts, they're all dressing super cool and I wish that was me 😔 Sometimes I'll imagine what my OCs or my favourite characters would wear in my wardrobe and it's very fun, I keep meaning to draw that and then I never do lol

Yeah I mostly act like cringe is dead because I don't really have interactions with people who still believe in it, but I do have a few anti mutuals (though coming out as liking Snarry got one of them to unfollow me so...? That's something? Don't know if it's positive or not but it happened) I don't actually know if you're mutuals with Alex @/storm-of-feathers since I saw you reblog from them but if you are, then you too have the pleasure of having anti mutuals :D Don’t know if you’d already noticed that or not, sorry if that’s how you’re learning about it? tbh after I answered your ask about Tomarry I expected the inquisition once again but apparently either those mutuals weren't online or I was right to tag the post because nothing happened. It does get kind of taxing to avoid talking about specific things or refrain from reblogging posts I like in case the few people who wouldn't approve see it. But at the same time I really don't like change so I'm not really doing anything about it since both of them aren't bothering me about it like 99% of the time.

Yeaah the Knights are just no fun :( I’m glad fandom is there to make something with the fun material the canon writers are just leaving there unexploited, but I also wish canon was just good on its own. Though I guess that does change things in terms of the fandom… I finished watching Gravity Falls a while back and it’s a very good show, so I was a little afraid of going in the fandom, as opposed to things like Star Wars where I knew that if I got into it I wouldn’t even hesitate throwing myself in the fandom. I don’t really know how to explain that, but (and I say that without any negativity towards people who like different stuff than me, they’re doing their thing I’m doing mine y’know) when canon is good and works on its own, it’s different to apply the same ‘fandom lenses’ to it. I read things casual fans wouldn’t even think about, but when it’s for like, HP or SW, it’s whatever, because canon doesn’t really feel like it’s going to explore the stuff it sets down anyway. Whereas with things like GF, canon IS exploring what it sets down, it has a clear message it’s communicating well, and coming in with for example some completely out of left field ship feels different. Anyway :’) I guess I could start getting into stuff that’s good to avoid the problem of canon sucking, but then I’m not getting as much weird fandom stuff, and that’s full of pearls and really interesting stuff I love, so heh

You don’t sound like you’re putting down your writing! I do get what you’re describing, not on a writing level but on a general language level, and I’m glad to know I’m not the only one haha. I learnt french and english through osmosis but my grammar is really bad and as you said, I know what would sound right and what wouldn’t, but not why. I don’t really feel like working on it personally though, so props to you for that, I gotta admire the dedication to actually improving yourself through work haha. The GwtW essay might or might not come, I got a 18.5/20 on the ‘exam’ I read the book for (only counted as 8% of that class’ final grade but still) and the teacher told me I should try developping my thoughts and writing the full essay I didn’t have enough time to do. I’ll have to see how motivated I get, I’ll tell you if it ends up happening! Though I was a little turned off by the vibes Rhett and Scarlett give off at the end, I love me a nice little fucked up relationship but their vibes were just hitting too close to home (derogatory). I’m also considering a thing about my absolute forever favourite fic, Pacify by chickenpets, because it’s just. It’s just good. Except it’s the one that got people to send me panicked asks about my morality so yeah :’)) (it’s like. Snarry with some underage, an interesting dynamic and BDSM, but also super well written and it hit 700k recently and every time I think about it I want to go read it again)

Recommending you all those fics got me to reread some I hadn’t touched in a while and *dreamy sigh* Don’t think I’ll be going back to canon anytime soon though, because by that point I know it well enough to tell you all the little details even if I haven’t read it since I was like 13 :’)) Your comment about Dumbledore made me think about the morality of putting the magical baby of her sister on the doorstep of Petunia Dursley though. Personally I see him not as a good or a bad person but as someone who by the point of the wars with Voldemort just did what had to be done. He didn’t explicitly want to give Harry a shitty childhood to make him more malleable like you’ll see in certain fics, it’s just that Harry had to be protected and the blood magic was already there. Also he probably expected Petunia to have grown up a little since her childhood when she was super jealous of her sister, and tbh why wouldn’t he? Yeah giving Harry to people you know nothing about is a bad decision, but sometimes you believe in the good in people (in most cases) and – well there are times when turning a blind eye to a situation is helpful, and when you feel responsible for the wizarding world… Like he’s not really a good person, but he wasn’t doing it to be evil? He just had flaws and a past and responsabilities. But also yes Harry Potter is fucked up if you analyse it from an adult’s POV because it’s a children’s book and obviously in the children’s book it’s not fun if Harry isn’t put in situations no good guardian would make possible :’)) God Harry Potter will never leave me. Like I’ll be able to give you a little speech on Severus on autopilot at 82 in retirement home :’)) just, forever etched into my brain whether I want it or not.

Hello hello! I hope your holidays are going well! It must be wonderful having so much free time after classes! My appointment went well, though there's still no official reason for why I can't hear as well anymore lol. Supposedly it's actually a processing disorder? But I have to be evaluated for that now, so I have to wait until I can have that evaluation before I'll know anything more substantial.

Listen, I absolutely love every aspect of these asks. It's so much fun to get to really dig into things! And your insights and thoughts are always so well put, it's genuinely a pleasure every time you're in my ask box!

Wow okay the thought you've put into your OCs! You're right, I do create my OCs from a standpoint of "how do I get this character from point A to point B," so it's so fascinating that you've got this consistent point of reference for yours. Like, with my OCs, especially the ones I make for the purpose of filling out my cast (or in the case of my original novel thing, for the purpose of being the cast), I need to think of them as these works in progress, because that's what they are, they're constantly being affected by the actions of the other characters and their surroundings and the workings of the universe I'm writing in. I can remember always struggling with certain aspects of one-shots because how does one demonstrate the way a character changes in only one scene? And then when I switched to writing longfics (and ultimately novels, now), suddenly my writing clicked.

And, your OCs all sound incredible! It must be so wonderful to have this consistent cast of characters for all your needs and purposes. If you ever do manage to make the toyhouse pages for everyone I'd love to see it! You really have a way of emphasizing who a character is at that point in time, it's absolutely amazing how you do that!

I'm also firmly on team "Jedi can have some fun but not the extreme attachments that Anakin had going on." But yeah, I also want a life partner and I agree romance is incredibly fun to do! That stuff all requires a really good conversation up front with whomever you're gonna be doing it with though (and here I am, giving life advice like I'm not only 23 lmao but) if you've got the right person (or people) it can be a wonderful arrangement. I've been with my partner for a year and a half and with my boyfriend for just about nine months, and genuinely having a relationship with people who are similarly on the aroace spectrum has been so much fun.

I was going to explain how my relationships worked and then realized that's a little weird of me, even for tumblr, so I deleted it and um you're getting this instead lol. But yeah! Qprs and "romantic" relationships where all parties understand that the romance isn't something y'all are able to feel are really fun! Highly recommend!

This is just a random thing, but I swear Luke Skywalker would look incredible in one of those 1950's shirtdresses. And the just a guy aesthetic, that's how I dress rn lol! Granted, once I get top surgery I'm going to finally buy the 1950's style dresses I've always wanted to wear but didn't pass enough to, but the just a guy vibe is incredibly fun to do!

Yeah so when I went from being a Zelda blog to an obikin blog in 2021, a bunch of my anti mutuals unfollowed me (which, good for them for having the maturity to unfollow instead of me needing to block them), and those that didn't ended up getting into obikin along with me. I did notice Alex was an anti, I'm not mutuals with them though I was following them for a while. I'm not anymore, one too many vagueposts about anti rhetoric got me to unfollow them, but yeah. I'm pretty open about what problematic stuff I ship (at least, in the Star Wars fandom), so if people follow me after seeing my bio that's kinda on them, and if they start shit I just block them. I'm still unlearning the whole being hesitant to share what ships I'm currently into from the hellscape that is the main Zelda fandom (and from my 2016 experiences with anti-reylos), but I've started to get better about it finally. It really helps to have like-minded mutuals tbh.

Oh, so what you're saying with Gravity Falls reminds me of this one thing I read somewhere a while ago! Basically, you can tell how good a canon media is by how much you (/general you) want to read/write fic for it. If its good but has lots of room for improvement, you're more inclined to look for fic, but if its really good and you can't see anywhere it could be better, you won't want to look for fic because it's all right there in canon! Obv ymmv, ofc, as with all things, but I've found this to be true for a lot of my own fandom experiences. Ofc there aren't any medias I can think of for myself off the top of my head, but when I do write fic or search for fic it's because I didn't like some aspect of canon or another, and really wish it had been different in whatever way!

I had to take a break from the tomarry because I ordered the 7 books (from a thrift store, obv, we do not support R*wling in this household) and it's been over a decade since the last time I read them and I needed the refresher. I've just started Goblet of Fire, and I've only had my hands on the books for 8 days, and omg. The tomarry brainrot is real. And my old drarry brainrot is back, and I have to tell you I'm down for snarry too now!

Looking back at this from an adult's perspective is pretty wild too. The first two books were marketed as children's books, but 3-7 were YA back when they were released, and my library even had book 7 alone in the YA section up until a few years ago when they finally moved it down to children's to be with the rest of the series. All this context because, I've been reading adult fiction and horror for the last decade, when I wasn't reading fanfic. And reading children's books for the first time in that long was a goddamn shock (affectionate), but it was really fun to pretend for a bit that I was just a kid on the 8 hour drive to our vacation cabin again! Once I got to Prisoner of Azkaban I felt a lot more comfy with the writing style, but YA is much closer to what I'm familiar with than outright children's, which I'm ofc grateful for. And omg, this series meant so much to kid!me, and I forgot how wonderful it was, and all the current discourse with it (while justified) has really tainted my recollections of it. Yes there's so much ableism and racism and homophobia, but that's what fandom is for, isn't it?

(I'll be honest, as someone who's still got a foot in a fandom such as Hetalia, I see no issues with being in a fandom for a problematic media; and my personal opinion is that I'm not comfortable consuming canon unless necessary for such a media, and if I must consume canon then I buy it secondhand so that the creator doesn't get my support. I have no interest in the HP movies, nor the books past Deathly Hollows; and if I ever do have a point where I'm interested in them, again, I'll just by them secondhand. And if I may add, I've recently started getting involved in professional published and to-be-published author's groups, as a means of encouraging myself to work on my original novel, and you'd (/general you) be incredibly surprised to see how they all interact with and around content that's incredibly problematic for whatever reason and how they interact about authors who are horrible people such as R*wling. It's been very interesting to see such things from a professional, irl pov instead of just fandom. But anyway, that's my views on the topic just so we're all clear fuck R*wling <333 I also hope that all made sense lmao thanks for letting me express that I've been needing to say it since getting back into the fandom)

But okay my opinions on Dumbledore. That opinion from the other week was 100% warped by the last decade in fandom without any interaction with canon on my part. Having read books 1-3, I can see a lot of my old opinions and admiration for Dumbledore still being applicable today, in fact I even suspect a lot of my opinions of death and dying could have come directly from Sorcerer's Stone where Dumbledore talks about Flammel deciding to give up his immortality. And you're right, it's hard to apply adult lenses to a children's/YA series where if the guardian figures were "adequate" for lack of a better word, we wouldn't have any story at all. So I'm kind of reading this from a, "if I were still a kid again how would I interact with this" perspective, while also maintaining my, "as an adult how would I write these characters being in their 20s (or whatever age they are when Harry, Ron and Hermione are mid-20s)" perspective. It's been helping a lot to have my reactions split like that lol. I think my current annoyance with Dumbledore is that, how dare he let Harry go back to the Dursley's now, knowing how abusive they are to him? And I understand (from memory, ofc), that there's the mother's love protection, but I suppose from an adult's perspective, particularly an adult like how I am, I can't quite get it. I do take back what I said about Dumbledore being a horrible character though. He's got his past, and his reasons, and he's been fighting this war longer than any of the characters in this series have been alive for the most part. Obviously he'll be flawed in ways I won't be able to understand, and that's how real people are, so ofc I won't always get it. It's interesting, I think, being an adult and remembering how fondly and in awe I'd look up to Dumbledore, and now as that adult wondering how he could make some of these decisions. None of this is meant like, rudely or anything btw, just v interesting and v looking forward to rereading the rest of the series and forming further analyses!! Thank you for getting me onto this <33
