Calling It Even
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pair: Ron Weasley x Reader; he/him.
Summary: You just moved 'across the pond' from Ilvermorny to Hogwarts, but before you actually moved you'd made a friend! Well, two and you just so happen to bump into them at the Leaky Couldren!
Warnings: Swearing, Slightly Suggestive (Ron's raging hormones™).
Note: Hi! This is my first time writing and posting a fic in a few years, so I'm sorry for spelling errors or stupid mistakes! It'll get better as I rewarm my.. Writing.. Muscles? Anyway, Thank you for reading! Let me now if this is good and enjoy!
~DO NOT REPOST ANYWHERE~
-
Moving from the US to Britain was just as stressful as you figured it would be, but going from Ilvermorny to Hogwarts felt like an actual asteroid was thrown into your world. You had to leave behind your friends, close relatives and of course your home, then you had a whole new school to deal with on top of that. Different houses, different teachers, different classes and the rules. Merlin's beard, were the rules different. You can distinctly remember bombarding your guardian with question after question. You were still surprised you got to carry your wand around with you outside of school! Of course the actual moving process had taken its toll on your guardians, and they knew what it was doing to you. You were tired, emotionally, physically- Godric, did you need a break before school started.
You would be starting your fifth year when summer ended, and that was in a few weeks or so. This should’ve given you the time to gather up the books, potion supplies and robes needed, maybe even find some friends your age, but you had other plans, apparently. You had spent the entire summer huddled over their desk waiting for an owl to return with a response letter and avoiding the cluttered shopping strip. You didn’t wanna tackle getting lost and missing a response from your favorite redheads. Now, your headmaster at Ilvermorny had recommended you create a quill-pal at Hogwarts so it felt less chaotic when you arrived, but you ended up finding two that were the pure embodiment of chaos.
So, technically, you did end up making friends with the program, just not what you expected. Each letter was seemingly cut in half, one with orange ink, one with purple. In said response, you learned the orange was usually Fred and purple was usually Georges. In said letters, you learned they are two years older than you, live in what they call a ‘Burrow’ and owning their own shop was definitely wrapped in their future. You spent a solid year getting to know the Infamously Famous,Charming and Totally Destructive personality of the Weasley Twins. Honestly, you seriously looked forward to seeing them in person, even if it was their last year. You three managed to get along like you’d known each other their entire lives. Best part is they promised to find you on the first day and show you around!
You remember Fred mentioning their roles on the Quidditch team and George saying something about pranks with fireworks and you knew. Oh, you knew the three of you would cause chaos and you were so excited. The red-headed duo also promised they’d introduce you to their friends and their extensive family. Fred had brought up having a younger brother your age and judging from the cluttered moving photo they sent you, he was awkward but in the best way. You managed to remember the names of the red-headed family members only because of the scribbled writing on said photo pointing out who was who. But for whatever reason, the youngest Weasley son always manages to be the first one you notice yourself staring at. He was genuinely really cute. Blue eyes, freckles, red hair, absolutely adorable- Ok. So you may have a crush on him without even knowing him but you can not blame yourself. The twins told you stories about the younger redhead and he only got cuter as time went on, but I’m getting ahead of myself, aren’t I?
Currently, you are walking down Diagon Alley. Not only did you need a break from unpacking, sorting and waiting for the Weasley's owl to return, but you also needed to restock on quills. Yup. Of all things, quills. (P/n) has this terrible chewing habit and adores the flavor of quills, or so you guess. You loved the rascal to bits, but damn, they ate the feathers like they drank water. Your guardian said they would finish unpacking the very few boxes your family were collectively avoiding while you went shopping down the popular alley. Oh! And speaking of water, you glanced up from the cobblestone pathway and noted the Leaky Cauldron sign hanging a few shops down. You’d heard stories of how comfortable the atmosphere of the little restaurant had been from the Weasleys and you couldn’t help but overhear wizards and witches around you chatting it up about possibly getting a butterbeer. You decided, why not? Could spare a few coins to buy the golden drink or maybe just a water. It was, like, 90 degrees outside and the cluttered path way didn’t help the soft summer breeze flow through at all.
You gently nudged your way through the bustling crowd of wizards and witches and pushed open the creaky old door. The smell of sweetness and smoke hit your noise as you stepped in, your eyes briefly wandering over the crowd, looking for an empty table. Once you spotted a table for two in the corner, you gently shuffled past crowded tables and rushed waiters apologizing as you went by. Finally sitting down at the small table, you let out a relieved sigh, not noticing a set of eyes following your every movement. Your eyes easily wandered around the shop but landed on piercing blue across the small restaurant. You immediately snapped your gaze to the fire pit and walls, choosing to avoid the gaze until a server walked over. You were tracing the gray, worn down bricks of the wall right next to you when an older woman in a simple uniform walked over the table.
“Good evenin, love. What can I get you?” she casted a bright smile your way, her hands in the small pocket of her apron as she waited for a response.
“Just a butterbeer, please.” You managed to stutter out, sending her a shy smile back. She nodded her head and headed off to another table after putting in your order.
Once she left, your eyes met a set of blue eyes once again. The longer you looked, the more you thought they were formilair, but you turned away, choosing not to dwell on anything besides the table that was placed in front of you. You were so busy tracing the grooves in the old wooden table, you didn’t notice the owner of the blue eyes nudge the red-head next to him and point in your direction. What finally brought you out of the tracing trance was a glass mug filled with liquid golden and soft foam slide toward you, followed by the sound of chairs scraping the old wooden floor and a distinct female voice calling out “where are you two going now?” Your hands wrapped around the glass and just before you could bring it to your lips, two people moving toward the table got your attention. You turned to look up and almost choked on air, your chest shaking as you coughed causing your mug to nearly empty all over the table. You didn’t even have time to fully register who was advancing closer because the warm drink was flowing off the table and onto your new shirt.
“Shit-!” You grumbled down at the spilt mess. Feeling the heat rush to your cheeks, you placed the mug down hoping to save what was left in it as you grabbed napkins.
“Now, I knew we shocked people, but I had no idea we had this kind of effect, Georgie.” Fred spoke and took up the seat across from you, causing his twin to let out a snort. Your head shot up at the sound of the British accent. He'd managed to effectively put a stop to you drying up the mess with one sentence. Fred grabbed a few to help wipe down the table, but was far more focused on your reaction. Your eyes snapped over to George as he leaned on the back of his brother's chair and flickered between the two freckle covered idiots. You made a mental note of who was who.
“Do you always sneak up on your victims or do you introduce yourselves like normal people?” You scoffed out, a smile growing on your face as you awkwardly piled up the useless napkins.
“We only sneak up on people we’ve been friends with for years and finally get to meet.” George spoke, sass laced in his voice.
“Oh please. It’s been like 1 year.” You rolled your eyes, reaching for your cup again and taking a small sip.
“And I don’t think we got an anniversary gift from you, love. I believe you owe us an apology. Missing our 1 year anniversary like that.” Fred spoke, a hand going to his chest in fake shock as George just tsked and shook his head responding with his own ”Shame, really.”
You let out your own soft laugh and raised an eyebrow. “Oh, I'm sorry.” You spoke setting your glass down again, sarcasm dripping from you as you crossed your arms over the table and leaned forward. “I didn’t realize I got something from you two for our ‘one year anniversary’.” You used air quotes, outlining the obvious.
“Godric, it’s so good to meet someone who finally matches our sass level.” Fred smiled at you. “But how did you not see us?” he used his thumb to point at a table behind him, almost taking out George's eye.
“Oi. Watch it.” the ever so slightly younger twin shoved the hand in his face away.
“Well, obviously, I didn’t expect you to run into you guys here.” You spoke, finishing the little amount of what was left of the butterbeer. After wiping your mouth on your sleeve, you shot the two a playful glare. “You owe me a drink.”
“Or you can meet Ickle Ronniekins and we can call it even.”
“That doesn’t even come close to equal.” You whined, sitting back in your chair, your head hitting the wall behind you a little too sharply. As much as you wanted to meet the younger bro, you were nervous. You may have let it slip out to the brothers that you desperately wanted to get to know Ron, but what if he didn't like you?
It didn't matter what you thought. You didn’t have a choice because the two may or may not have shipped you two, but that’s for them to know and for you to never, ever, ever find out. The twins let out a laugh at your demise and both stood up, one grabbing the empty mug and the other practically dragging you out of your cozy corner.
“I say it’s fair.” George spoke, following the older redhead who was almost quit literally dragging you by the arm. The two idiots led you to a table in the middle, where it was borderline empty besides 3 people sitting, all chatting to themselves. The chatting came to a stop when George set your mug down in the middle and Fred forced you to sit across from another redhead, who you quickly recognized.
“Um, Fred..” The witch next to Ron spoke up just as Fred sat to your left and George to your right. “Who is this?”
“This, Granger, is our quill-pal, (Y/n). He comes from America and just transferred over. Good old quill-pal (Y/n), meet Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, and our own little Ickle Ronniekins.” Fred pointed to each witch and wizard, pointing them out so you could put names to faces. The nickname caused Ron to groan out a ‘shod off, Fred’, to which the older brother just snickered.
“Oh, hi! I’ve heard alot about you guys.” You smiled, casting them a small wave. Your accent, to them, was very interesting. It was so different from what they were used to, which definitely wasn’t a bad thing. They actually thought it fit you really well.
“Well, (y/n), it’s great to meet you.” Harry spoke up, a smile replacing the confused expression he once held. He was just relieved you weren’t asking for an autograph or constantly shaking his hand. It was refreshing.
“Likewise!” You flashed a smile to the messy raven haired dude before stretching back in your chair, head turning, trying to avoid the twins in his view to find a waitress. You gave up on searching when the twins purposefully blocked your view and Ron cleared his throat.
“Wait.. This is (y/n)? The bloak you guys don’t shut up about?” Ron pointed at you, almost as if accusing you of causing him pain. The twins nodded their heads, in sync, while landing a kick to both of his legs. “Ow-! I'm just asking!” he rubbed his bruised shins and rested his chin on the table so he could shoot them a glare. “Arse holes.” He grumbled. The twins gave him a sort of look that meant ‘shut up or we will not hesitate to strike again’ and honestly, Ron felt a tiny bit of fear enter his soul and his glare dropped.
“Aww! Did you two really mention me that much? I’m flattered, boys!” A confident smirk stretched across your face as the twins blushed ever so slightly, George a little redder than Fred.
“No.” They countered.
“Yes.” Ron groaned out, wanting revenge for the kicks. ”Merlin. They’d go on and on about how cool you were. ‘Ma, he said he plays Quidditch, too! Can we get the booms out?’, ‘His favorite color is (f/c) and his favorite animal is (f/a)! We should work on (f/c) (f/a) fireworks for him!’. My family officially knows more about you than I know about the Chudley Cannons.” He ran his right hand through his hair and his left waved around as he spoke. You couldn’t help but snicker. “It’s been actual hell. I’m just glad you're here so they can shut up.”
Harry nudged his best friend in the side before speaking. “Hey, be nice, This is probably their first crush!” The comment caused Hermione to almost snort butterbeer, Ron let out a very loud laugh and you to high five Harry meanwhile the twins turned redder than their quidditch uniforms.
“Oi, Potter. I will burn your broomstick.” Fred threatened, pointing at the boy who lived.
“Aw come on Freddie, be nice. It isn’t their fault you gave them the material for this. Relax, bud.” You shoved his hand away.
George took your mug and slid it out of your reach and to the end of the table. “Well, we were gonna buy you another drink, but since you're being an arse, you're not getting a sickle from us.” George turned to you and stuck out his tongue.
The simple banter continued as the 6 of you sat in front of the simple fireplace, laughter filling the little stone eatery. You had known the group in person for about 15 minutes and you already fit in like a puzzle piece. After a few more butter beers and another 15 minutes later, the 6 of you had decided to go on the hunt for some goodies, so you all paid for the drinks and led the cluttered restaurant. Fred and George started off leading the group, but got sidetracked at Zonko’s. Hermione had practically dragged Harry off into Flourish and Blotts when he mentioned not having his school supplies. That left you and Ron alone to get to know eachother better.
“So, what’s Ilvermorny like?” He asked, his hands in his pockets as he walked beside you.
“Well.. " you hesitated."Definitely different, if what Fred and George said was true. We don’t have a sorting hat, instead statues would pick who they want. It’s a whole history thing. Everyone's robes are blue and this reddish color, so i'm excited for a change! And jeez, the wand rules. They're, at least, 10 times stricter than here. I had to get sorted before I could even hold a wand and Ilvermony students can’t legally have wands until their 17. Bullshit if you ask me.” You scoffed. “I was put in Wampus. I guess that's a cool thing.” This caused Ron to let out a snort and a cackling laugh.
“I’m sorry- you got put in what??” He turned to you, a huge smile on his lips.
“A-A wampus?” You spoke, hoping he’d ignore the stutter. You ended up staring at his smiling face, making a promise to make him laugh whenever it was physically possible. It was so perfect.
“Aaaanndd that is what, exactly?” The redhead's smile turned into a small smirk as he responded. “Is it like- like a creature or a plant? It sounds like a plant-”
“How on earth does Wampus sound like a plant??” You looked at him with a confused expression. Your arm shot out to punch his bicep lightly. “Of course it’s a creature, Ronald!”
You went on to explain all about what a wampus was, however, Ron was no longer listening. He was slowly drifting toward the quidditch shop, his jaw practically on the floor. He pressed his freckled covered hands to the glass window of the shop.
“You really must be yanking my wand! Do you see this?!” The redhead was drooling over a brand new broom. The little plastic sign next to the window model read ‘Firebolt Y.5’
“Oh my go-Is that-” You stood next to him, a look of shock. “How did I walk past this shop and NOT see this??” You grabbed his arm and whisked him away from the window, bringing him into the shop. Quidditch, of course, was your favorite sport. You were even on the Wampus quidditch team! You played a seeker and you loved to believe you were the best! “Oh my god, yes. If I had this across the pond” you spoke while pointing at the brooms hanging on the walls, "I'd be the best damn seeker in Ilvermorny history!” You all but squealed out.
While you were ranting about the possibilities of owning this bad boy, Ron was noticing something. He was noticing, since you grabbed his arm, he wanted to hold your hand. He was noticing how your eyes lit up while you were talking about destroying other teams on the fields and how big your smile was and how cute- Cute. Cute?
Wait.
Hold on. Cute? You? He thought he thought Hermione was cute? But now, now it was you. You suddenly clouded his mind and he'd only know you for less than an hour? He blamed his hormones.. Or maybe it was the way your eyes were sparkling so much more when compared to the photo you sent his brothers. Or your stupid perfect hair was so perfect even if it was a mess from constantly running your fingers through it. Every freckle, every mole, every dimple on your skin, he wanted to memorize it all. Suddenly, you turned to him, the smile wider than before. Shit, you were waiting for a response, but he was too wrapped up in how perfect you were for him to think straight.
“WhUt?” His voice cracked as he basically shouted at you. His face turned pink with embarrassment, but it transformed into a color to rival the Gryffindor red he usually sported during the school year. The poor git basically melted into a puddle when he heard you let out a giggle.
“I was asking if you wanted to split the cost! Fred and George told me when Harry got his Firebolt, but I bet it’s nothing compared to this baby. We could split it!” You were basically jumping up and down.
Ron blinked a few times, his brain trying to process everything. “Split?”
“Yes, Ronnie. Split.” You giggled, wrapping your arm around his shoulder, pulling him closer to your side.
“Ronnie split.” He muttered without realizing it. “OH! Oh- The broom! Split the broom! Cost! Right!” he ran a hand through his hair, his entire face felt hot. Ron was sure his face was blending in with his red locks. “I-I can check! With Fred and George and- and we see?” He squeaked, noticing how close he was to you. He audibly gulped, his tongue poking out to lick his suddenly dry lips.
“Cool! We could all share it!” You reached into your pocket, pulling out all the coins nestled in your pocket. As you counted over the coins, the only words that stuck in Ron’s head were ‘we’ ‘share’ and he could basically hear sirens going off. You’d already gotten to know his older brothers. What if you already liked one? Or both? He didn’t even know if you were single.
“Ah- Well i'm sure we can just handle it. Just the two of us.” He clapped his hands together, choosing not to think of how much attention the noise brought him. You looked at him with a confused expression but let it be with a shrug.
“If you say so, Ronnie.” You smiled, shaking your head. You had no idea the redhead was avoiding the idea of his brothers sharing you instead of the broomstick.”Iiisss there a reason you don’t wanna share?” You asked as you shoved your hands in your pockets, putting the coins away. You missed Ron's face turning bright red as you gazed on at the Chudley Cannons merchandise hanging off the walls.
“I-I’m just sick of sharing with my siblings, y-ya know?” His voice cracked as he spoke, but he tried to cover it up with a cough. “Um.. I do have a lot of older brothers, so hand-me-downs are really all I get-”
“Oooh, right. Right. That’s fair.” you looked down at your feet. You forgot. Gerd and Feorge didn't throw it in your face, but they did mention when money got tight and how they planned on opening a joke shop and how they told their products to kids for extra cash. You should've remembered. You cleared your throat, your eyes darting to him, to the door back to him. Desperate for a way to change the atmosphere, you offered leaving the store. "Honeydukes?” you asked way too loudly in the small shop. ”Wanna.. Go to Honeydukes?" You cleared your throat into your hand. Ron couldn't have agreed fast enough.
The two of you walked out of the store, making small, awkward talk as you continued your stroll across the stoley path. When you came up to Honeydukes Ron, to your surprise, hurried to the door and held it open for you. As you walked in, he did a playful bow as if you were royalty. It brought a smile to your face and things fell into the rhythm from before.
"I'm not too keen on pumpkin pasties, but I do love chocolate frogs. When I was a kid, I dreamed of being put on one of the cards, but that kinda faded. I’m thinking maybe a famous quidditch player? Not quite sure yet." You rambled as Ron grabbed what someone might consider way too much of the chocolate treat. He would call that someone insane and double the batch. While he was literally filling his arms with the small boxes, you were busy looking at the candy wands, your mouth practically drooling at the idea of sweets. "We don't have a lot of this across the pond." you muttered to yourself as you reached across a table to grab a few different boxes of candy you've never tried before, one being Bertie Bott’s Everything Flavored Beans.
"Really? What are you used to?" Ron spoke up behind you, his eyes going from the candy resting in your hands to your forearm. The redhead found his eyes trailing up and landing on your bicep, causing his mind to wonder and basically dive head first into the gutter.
"Well, we had candies like Skittling Soot Poppers. They're these dark chocolate little balls that pop in your mouth once the chocolate melts. It's so cool! If you put one in your mouth and keep it open, sparks will come out. All kinds of colors, too." you smiled, remembering staying up far too late into the night with your Wumpas housemates and munching away. "Oh! And these little cakes called Twinkles. They would glitter like gold in the moonlight, but turn silver in the sun. They always taste like vanilla and cream."
Ron gulped. We all know what he's thinking at this point. He'd love to try some cream, and not the filling of the Twinkles, if ya catch my drift. He blinked out of a fantasy and shook his head. Bad Ronald. He scolded himself, but was yeeted out of his head when he heard you laugh.
"What? What's so funny?" his head tilted like a confused puppy, one of the chocolate frogs falling from the top of the pile and landing with a soft thud. As you bent down to pick up the box for him, you answered his question.
"Nothing, you're just being cute." you set the chocolate frog box on top of his pile and began down the aisle way.
"W.. Wait, really?!"
His response brought a snort out of you. He sounded so excited it made your heart jump. "I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it, Ronnie. Godric, even that was cute." You spoke as you turned the corner and headed down a new aisle. Your eyes scanned along the other treats laid out on the shelves while your hand grabbed a few sugar quills. “Ok, I think we got enough now. What do ya think?” You turned to where you thought he was, but your view lacked the pale freckled boy. “Ron?” Your voice carried through the store. “Ronnie?” You called out again as you went to the last aisle you saw him at. When your head popped around the corner you were met with a sight you thought was kodiak worthy.
There he was, bright red in the face, bright wide blue eyes standing out against his red skin, mouth hanging open and every chocolate frog box laying at his feet. You broke him. How the hell did he manage to get cuter?
“Ron?” Your legs moved without you even demanding them too and soon you stood in front of him. Has he even blinked? Is.. Is he ok? Shifting the candies in your arms, you managed to free a hand to gently close his mouth. “Hello? Are the lights on inside?”
“You said I was cute.” You were lucky you heard him over the crowded shop.
“Yes, Red.” You spoke, a giggle escaping your lips. “We established this already.” You shook your head, but it was halted when his blue eyes finally landed on your own, causing a heat to spread to your ears.
“Yeah.. But what KIND of cute?”
“Kind? What?”
“There are different kinds. Like am I cute like a crup or am I.. Am.. Like am I romantic-” He froze again when you leaned over and kissed his cheek, hopefully answering his question. You chose to ignore the grumpy customers trying to fit down the aisle and, instead, rested your hand on his hand. You would’ve held it but the stupid boxes of cursed choco frogos where in the way. “I hope that was ok.” You, also, chose to ignore his tiny, squeaky ‘bloody hell’ and dragged him to the counter.
“Ya know, when your brothers told me about you, I couldn’t get you out of my head.” You confessed, laying all the candy out on the counter and turned to him again. His blush had died down and he wasn’t as jumpy or frozen. Ron followed suit and dumped the boxes onto the counter and immediately whipped his hands on his jeans.
“I-I was glad I got to hear about you everyday.” He smiled, rubbing the back of his neck as he stared down at his shoes. “I um- I wanted to write, but uh, thought it would be weird.” He didn’t turn to look at you but his crystal blue eyes bounced between you, the candy and the glass counter in front of him. “A-and I’d love to get to know you more. And m.. Maybe do this again? Just you and me? Again?”
Your face almost split in two as you felt Ron’s hand brush against yours.. “I would absolutely adore to do this again, Ronnie.” He intertwined his fingers with yours, his blush coming back easily, causing you to let out a chuckle. While you did end up paying for most of the candy and forgetting about the quills, you managed to leave hand in hand with the red haired Chudley Cannon loving dork. Of course this caused the twins to tease you relentlessly about falling so hard for their baby brother. Hell, they even made a lame song, something about ‘Ronnie I love you’ and ‘when we’re apart my heart beats only for you’. It literally never stopped. In fact it got worse as time went on, especially when you were sorted into Gryffindor once school started.
Oh, but was so worth it.

Only The Beginning
Chapter 4: My Bad...
Alas, another filler chapter. The reader finally meets Dorian! The bickering and fluff is on point my friends and I hope I got enough tension in there for you. If not there will definitely be more in coming chapters!
Thank you to my lovely Beta Reader @toppysammy! 🥰
-H❤🖖
John’s grip is tight on your upper arm. Wincing slightly, you allow him to lead you over to his car. A handsome-looking android casually leans up against the passenger side door with his arms crossed. He looks at you curiously, obviously scanning you for ID; you give him a little smile when he doesn't come up with anything. John yanks open the backseat and shoves you in.
“Rude,” you mutter, straightening in your seat and pulling your messenger bag close. Looking into the bag, you check on the heavy drive that is nestled inside. It has a small crack but otherwise is undamaged. Sighing in relief, you blow a strand of hair out of your face. Both car doors open up in front and the two detectives get in, bickering.
“Come on, John, you can’t be serious.”
“You heard what they said; rogue android turned on the security team.”
At that, you sink down in your seat feeling more guilty than before. John’s android partner rolls his electric blue eyes. “Security," he scoffs, "more like black market mercenaries. One of those men had a rap sheet longer than your attention span,”
You choke on a laugh as John sputters and glares at the DRN; you had heard about this model, but it's a wholly different experience to meet one. John shoots you a hard look in the rearview mirror.
“You wanna tell me what the fuck happened?” he barks, turning around in his seat so he can fully scowl at you. Clearing your throat, you think over your words carefully. To give yourself more time, you hold out a hand and introduce yourself to John’s partner.
“I’m John's friend--” you glance at said man; he's losing patience. Grimacing, you amend, “I think…”
The android smiles kindly and takes your hand, “Dorian, John’s partner.” His deep and polite voice puts you at ease.
Pulling your hand away, you look back at your angry best friend warily. You mull over what happened for a second before opening your mouth to explain, “Well, I figured out what happened to Julia Lawson, and it wasn’t suicide,” you jerk your head in the direction of the building.
“The creepy death squad murdered her and staged it to look like a suicide. Which, by the way, was completely obvious; they did a horrible job. Whoever had the case was paid off to keep it clean-cut and closed."
Both men in the front seat looked shocked. “You mean you figured this out in, what, three hours?” John asks with a raised eyebrow. You simply shrug, “I have no red tape I have to constantly cut through. I talked to Julie's brother; he told me what I needed to know and I figured out the rest by using the internet. Breaking in was easy--”
John cuts you off mid-sentence with a warning. He pinches the bridge of his nose, breathing out his frustration. Dorian looks at you like you're an entirely new species; fascination, amusement, and disquiet all flick across his face. Biting the inside of your cheek, you watch the two carefully.
“Look, Julie stumbled upon something very big and I think you should know about it,” you offer, holding out your bag like an olive branch. John watches you closely for a moment before taking the bag and looking inside.
“A hard drive?” he asks skeptically, pulling it out and handing it over to Dorian to peruse. You shrug and gave a smirk, “I downloaded everything I needed on to that thing; Julie’s ‘suicide,' who ordered it, and the plans Julie overheard that caused her death in the first place.”
Dorian plugs into the drive and the more information he obtains, the deeper his frown gets. “This is very...wrong,” he says with a wrinkle of his nose.
You grimace, “Yeah, I forgot about that part; it’s also about Speartips. Horrible name for a private tech company by the way; it's the CEO getting down and dirty with underage interns and paying them extra to keep quiet.”
Dorian stops looking through the drive and hands it back to John without a word. The android’s eyes are as hard as his partner's. John looks back to you, anger still in his gaze. Sighing, your shoulders slump. “If it’s any consolation, I didn’t mean to get caught by the mercs. The android was a new addition,” you defend quickly.
“You threw him out a window,” John points out, losing patience with you.
You throw up your hands, “HE started it! At least his body didn’t hit anyone."
John groans and shakes his head, “Pushing anybody off the fortieth-something floor is bad!” he scolds, starting the car. You scowl at John and cross your arms childishly, “Well, I didn’t like getting choked out. I panicked."
John winces at your words, his posture changing from tense and angry to sad and sympathetic. “I’m sorry, I know you wouldn’t have done any of that if you didn’t have to,”
Dorian’s attention jumps back and forth between you and John, his eyes widening as he connects the dots. “You’re the one who--” he cuts himself off and looks at his human partner.
John sighs heavily and taps his thumb against the steering wheel anxiously, “This is where the whole trusting me thing comes in.” He looks over at the DRN pleadingly. Dorian stares at John for a nano-second before nodding and keeping silent about the whole thing. He was no doubt currently wiping your presence from everything involving what just happened. From camera feeds to bystanders, taking pictures and selfies of the chaos.
“I really am sorry,” you mumble, feeling guilty for more than just putting John in the position that he's now in. Your best friend looks at you in his rearview mirror.
Pressing his lips into a thin line, his shoulders slump just a touch. “I know. You’ve been away from people--well, civilian people for a while. You have to be more subtle from now on, though, alright?”
You grimace at John’s words but nod anyway, agreeing to what he's saying. This is his home after all. He built a life here; and here you were, wreaking havoc in that home like a maniac.
“What now?” you say in a voice just slightly above a whisper. Dorian glances over at his partner, wondering the exact same thing. John purses his lips as he drives through the city. You can’t help your wry smile in response; he always makes that face when he is thinking hard about something.
“We should get you settled into a place. I’ve been keeping an eye out and I got a message from a buddy of mine. There’s a little apartment right near where I live,” he says, handing his phone over to Dorian, who downloads the directions and information.
“I guess you do want your bed back, huh?” you ask with a slight chuckle. John huffs and nods, “My couch is great and all, but it does get a bit uncomfortable after a while,” he mutters with a wrinkle of his nose.
Dorian smirks, “That explains the changes to your sleeping pattern,” he muses, making John scowl. “How many damn times--” he hisses, pointing an accusatory finger at the android only to be cut off by your snort of laughter.
John’s lips twitch upward at the sound, the tense atmosphere of the car lifting as the car crawls through city traffic. “So, Dorian, has John ever told you the story about how he became addicted to noodles?”
You immediately have the DRN’s full attention; John sputters from the driver’s seat unsuccessfully, trying to shush you.
“Well, you see, it all started when he and I traveled to China and we stumbled across this little mom-and-pop shop. The food there was to die for, what was it called…” you trail off, trying to picture the little restaurant in your mind.
“Little Bo’s.” John supplies with a fond smile.
You snap your fingers, grinning from ear to ear, “Little Bo’s! Oh, my gosh, they had some damn good food, and the owner was so sweet; she tried her best to teach John how to use chopsticks.”
Dorian chuckles, “He still can’t use them,” he whispers none-too-quietly.
John shoots him an offended look, “I can too!” he yells indignantly.
Dorian rolls his eyes. “Not very well.” he mutters, ignoring John’s slight pout. You giggle and gently squeeze John’s bicep.
“Maybe when I get settled, I’ll make you dinner,” you offer sincerely. You yelp when John suddenly hits the brakes and looks back at you with wide eyes.
“Seriously?” he asks with a grin. You snort and nod. Dorian looks bemused at the action and his jaw practically drops when John holds out his pinky for yours. Grinning, you seal the promise.
“Just let me know what you wa--”
“Chicken and dumplings," he answers immediately.
You snicker at the quick response. “I should have known,” you sigh with a shake of your head.
Dorian is at a loss for words; he tries multiple times to add something but he can’t. He’s never seen his partner this relaxed and happy before (despite today’s events) and it's odd. However, it's a good kind of odd. John deserves happiness and that’s what you seem to make him.
Just friends, Dorian mentally scoffs, smiling to himself as you and John bicker about the best dishes you've made in the past. Something deep within Dorian’s circuits says that someday you’ll end up being so much more. The heated discussion becomes a bit louder and suddenly changes to whose fault it was in burning down a rental in Rio.
Dorian sighs. Maybe not today, but someday, he thinks ruefully before verbally stepping in to divulge how John once ate a slug in hopes to not offend an old Japanese man.

AUgust 14 - Chefs
Title: WENN LIEBE IN DIR IST… UND GUTES ESSEN
Fandom: Tanz Der Vampyr
Alfred/Herbert, Graf/Sarah
This is my favourite musical. Straight up. You cannot get better than this. Maybe "Master and Margarita" but I haven't found a good bootleg of it.
I really hope you guys like this one!!!
Oh, there they were again. That damned truck with it's bombastic orchestral music, the catchy paintings, and the obnoxious sign boy. Alfred knew they were doing this on purpose, parking there because they knew how much it pissed off the staff of his own restaurant. Sure, it wasn't really "his" restaurant. It really belonged to Abronsius, the eclectic perfectionist who taught him everything.
And there the sign boy went, platinum hair flowing ever so delicately on the wind. He chatted up anyone that came by, and of course the mesh shirt mixed with the weird cape thing only made the spectacle that much more intriguing.
Alfred must have been glaring for too long because the blond eventually turned and winked straight at him through the window.
Damnit!
His face must have turned red because Abronsius asked him what was wrong, and he quickly made up some excuse about the heat before going back into the kitchen.
"You know," Sarah - the newest pastry chef - whispered, "their food's really good, and the sign dancer guy is single~" she teased.
Alfred felt his face pucker like he'd eaten a lemon.
Yes, the man was attractive, but from what Abronsius had said, they were all bad sorts there. But… well… whatever. Whatever. He had soups to make.
---
Three nights later. They were back. He had the evening off. Fuck. He was pissed. Abronsius had denied him a raise again. He shouldn't have been surprised, but if always stung when he was educated on exactly why he wasn't worth an extra two dollars an hour.
He knew he was young, sure, but he wasn't stupid or incompetent, he didn't have wrong priorities. He wasn't any of the things that stodgy old bastard said. And all he had wanted was two (2) more dollars. It wouldn't have even made him the highest paid (even discounting the profits he knew the old asshole was keeping).
So he wanted to make the man upset. As the sounds of Tchaikovsky drifted towards him, he couldn't help smirking. He hoped Abronsius was watching. Hoped Abronsius saw him ordering off the competition's menu, and he fully planned on eating right outside the restaurant, in full view from the large glass windows.
"Well hello there, finally come to see what all the fuss is about?"
Alfred nearly jumped out of his skin. He hadn't heard anyone approaching, but there he was: the sign guy. Blond haired, pale skinned, and just, umf, fucking beautiful.
Alfred felt his heart rate increase just from the sheer proximity.
"I-I-I, uhm, yeah. Uh, m-mostly, well, I, uh, wanted to p-piss off my boss."
Real smooth, dipshit!
Sarah was right. He was hopeless.
The guy grinned and, of all things, kissed his hand.
"Well, I'm glad you did. I thought I might have to venture into that tacky place to properly say hello."
Alfred honestly didn't disagree. The restaurant was called Knoblauch, which just meant "garlic" and the interior was kind of gaudy. Not that he would have ever dared say so.
"I, uh- wait. You wanted to see me?"
"Every day since I first spotted your adorable pout, yes."
It was effortless the way this guy flirted and Alfred was just getting more and more shy.
"I'm… um… that's sweet. Thanks."
"So did Sarah get you to take a look? She's been very chatty about you, you know."
Ah fuck.
"I, uh, I mean, maybe I guess, but, uh-"
"She says you're a single hopeless romantic, and I really hope she's right," the man interrupted, and whoops, there went Alfred's ability to speak anything but flustered gibberish entirely.
The man leaned down and grinned.
"My name's Herbert von Krolock. What's yours?"
Oh, Alfred knew this man knew, but he couldn't help answering anyway, stuttering it out.
Herbert grinned. "You're so cute! Do you wanna have dinner with me? Now?"
"U-u-uh, um, I mean, uh, I…. Yes…?"
Herbert took his hands (both of them, like this was some kinda romcom), and led him over to the side of the food truck, music playing louder there, and the magnificent frescoes truly visible. They were gothic scenes, dark balls. Alfred couldn't help liking them, for whatever reason.
Then another beautiful man appeared, pale and salt-and-pepper tied in a neat bun.
"Oh, the boy finally came. What shall we have tonight?"
Herbert smiled and nudged Alfred, who realized in a panic he had no idea what kind of food they even sold. The man seemed to take pity on him, luckily.
"Let's start you with a sampler, then. I know it's a wide variety… I'm glad you stopped by. Sarah speaks highly of you," he added with a small smile.
If he survived this Sarah was getting the bougiest fucking brunch ever.
Hebert led him to a small table over to the side to wait.
"You know, Graf is head over heels for her, but he's afraid his age will put her off," the blond murmured conspiratorially.
Alfred couldn't help snorting softly.
"She has a thing for older guys, actually. He should go for it."
Herbert grinned brightly. "I'll try to let him know that…"
Alfred couldn't help smiling. Was it something in the air? Who knew? He just… was having the best night he'd had in a long time.
The food was ready and Herbert got it, stopping only briefly to greet visitors. Alfred was a little surprised, since he always seemed so sociable before, inviting people in.
"What's the look for, hmm?"
Alfred was startled again by the quietness of Herbert's steps.
"O-oh! Nothing, really. Just… you always seem so chatty when…"
"When you spy on me from your little restaurant? I am. But tonight I'm on a date with a very cute guy, and he gets all my attention."
Alfred once again lost all coherence, nibbling at a strawberry to hide his sheepishness.
Herbert just chuckled, and began telling him about the food truck.
Graf (the owner, Mr. Sexy Older Guy) had taught himself to cook after dealing with a very hard childhood, and one day he decided he would take his knowledge out and feed others. He quickly became popular as a caterer at parties, the rich-people kind, like masquerade balls and that kinda thing.
He still did them sometimes. But his true love lay in cooking for the masses, it seemed, out on the street, in parks, at games. He decided to take the Balls and Parties with him.
"That's… really cool," Alfred admitted.
"Yeah? I think so. But we might have to give it up… he's thinking of doing a world tour in his golden years," Herbert began with a wry smirk, "as though he ever plans on retiring… but he wants an apprentice. I'm no good at anything except cold foods and people-pleasing…"
Alfred sighed and shook his head. Just his luck. He found a new favourite place and they were closing.
"I mean, you seem pretty good at what you do…" Herbert added suggestively.
"Wait, wait, what? Me?"
"Yeah. You. You're not the only one that spies from time to time. You seem really passionate about food. And fast. And competent in general."
Everything that Abronsius berated him for not being.
"I… is this all just a ploy? To poach from the competition?" He asked, stiffening. It was one thing to be all flirty and friendly, an entirely other thing to-
"What? No. Of course not! I'm not so shallow I'd do that."
Herbert looked genuinely hurt and offended. Fuck.
"I… I… I'm sorry it's just… I'm pretty often reminded that I'm a young, stupid know-nothing that'll never make it on my own and all…" Alfred muttered bitterly.
"That old hack doesn't know what he's talking about."
Graf's voice came from nowhere, and you know what? Alfred could live in a state of permanent heart-attacks. That was fine.
"What? You know him?"
"That pompous blowhard is the reason I never went to culinary school. Way back when, he made everyone's life hell because it had to be his way or nothing, because he knew how to cook 'properly' and we knew nothing."
"....so I take it he hasn't changed much."
"Nope. Almost ruined food for me. I decided I'd never go through anything that would turn me into a rude monster like that."
"Well, I'm quitting tomorrow, so I don't blame you."
Graf chuckled. "Why bother with that courtesy? Just come work for me. Rub it in his face. Bring the girl too. Take his two best kids from him."
Yeah. That… that sounded good.
"You know what? I think I will. If you'll excuse me, I have a call to make."
He walked over to the other side of the truck, a little ways away, where he could look in and see the kitchen. And there was Sarah, flinching at something the old bastard was saying.
He called her number.
He almost couldn't believe it when she picked up.
"Look outside," he directed. She did, and gave him a wave and a bright smile.
"How do you like it?!”
"So much I'm gonna work here. I quit. You should too. They asked for you by name."
"Say no more."
She hung up, and without further ado completely stripped off her uniform, leaving her in a sports bra and leggings (cause let's be real it got fucking hot in that kitchen sometimes), and she just sauntered on out.
Herbert started laughing, and Alfred turned just in time to see the look on Graf's face as his dulcet darling was strutting over.
"So, you want to give a recently unemployed girl a job?" She asked with a bright smile.
Alfred was glad he wasn't the only one who sometimes forgot how to speak.
Herbert took over, and the pair quickly bantered a deal, and Alfred just took a minute to watch.
They looked good, all together like that. Almost like a family.
Of course, then Herbert glanced up at him, and gave him another of those heart-stopping winks.
Well.
Carpe noctem and all that.

Empires on the Horizon V
Jason is a CEO: Part V
Here’s my masterlist for the next part and my other stuff
Tumblr media
But the most beautiful things in life are just not things.
They’re people and places, memories and pictures.
They’re feeling and moments and smiles and laughter.
-unknown
“Charles Beckendorf,” Jason answered the phone with a smile, “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Hello Grace, how are you?”
“Absolutely wonderful,” And he was, he hadn’t felt so calm in a long time. “What can I do for you my friend?”
“I need your help with the wedding. I’m planning an outdoor structure with video screenings of all our favourite memories and you have two things that’ll make my dreams come true.”
“Anything for you Charlie.”
“The gorgeous meadow on the far side of town, you own that right?”
“Yep, you want to set up shop there?”
“Yes please,” His eagerness carried through the phone, “And can you send me any pictures or videos you have of us so I can add it to the slideshow.”
“Of course, is that all?”
He could hear the excitement in his friend’s voice, “That’s it, unless you know anyone who’s willing to look after the shop while we’re on honeymoon?”
“I can’t say I do but I can ask Hazel to hire a temp if you want?”
“I’ll suggest it to the ladies and tell them to get back to you.”
“Sounds great, and good-luck with the project. I’m excited for the wedding.”
“Me too man, me too. It’s still surreal to me that I’m getting married to my best friends.”
“You deserve the world Charlie.”
“No way, I am crazy emotional these days.” He sniffled.
Jason laughed, “You’re always emotional Beckendorf.”
“Screw you,” He snorted, “See you soon, and thank you again.”
“Bye man, have a good one.”
He ended the call with a smile. It was unbelievable to think he would be going to his friends’ wedding in a couple months. Just the other day he was sitting in a lecture hall laughing at Beckendorf’s impersonation of their business lecturer. Just the other day he was helping Silena and Drew paint the walls of their boutique. It was strange to face the reality that they were all grown up now– moving on with their lives, living them.
“Ready to go Boss?” Hazel’s head popped around the door.
“Yep, you have the files?”
“All in the room already, anything else we need?”
“Maybe some coffee and a miracle?”
“Unfortunately I can only provide one of those things, and it’s not the helpful one.” She gave him an apologetic look.
“Well I guess wish me luck then,”
“You don’t need it Boss, you’re gonna kill it today.”
“What would I do without you Miss Levesque?” He sighed gratefully, walking to the elevator.
“Forget which day of the week it is, and which shoe goes on which foot,” She grinned.
“Hey, the shoe thing was one time.”
“That only works if you’re a toddler, not a grown man.”
“No excuse for the elderly then?”
She shook her head solemnly, “None I’m afraid.”
The elevator doors slid open.
“Meeting Room A5.”
“Let’s do this.” He took a deep breath and pushed the glass door.
“Hello Jason Grace,”
“Hello Octavian.”
Jason always felt some level of life seep out the room when he me with the head of Titan Industries. The man felt…synthetic; chalk white hair gelled down flat and calculating pale blue eyes that missed nothing. Gods even his skin looked unnatural, pasty and veined.
He reached out a small, bony hand in greeting.
“You look as incredible as ever Miss Levesque,” He lifted her hand to his mouth.
She gave him a tight-lipped smile, “Octavian.”
He didn’t seem to notice, or care for her discomfort and simply turned to Jason.
“So,” They sat down, “Have we come to some agreement?”
“With all due respect Octavian I don’t feel this contract is justified.” He glanced between the man and the folder.
There was silence, as if he were waiting for Jason to continue but two could play at this game. He was not willing to be taken for a fool, fumbling over himself to bow to this man’s whims. So he met those cunning eyes, a smile playing at his lips. The only sound was the scratch of Hazel’s pencil as she set up her notes for the meeting.
Moments passed, frozen in time, and then a sigh, “What can I do to ease your concerns?”
He struggled to reel in a smug expression. “Let’s start with the supply times.”
And they went back and forth, pulling and pushing, cunning and stead-fast, a fox and a wolf. Two hours later the contract had been amended to both their liking and they were once again shaking hands.
“I will ask my assistant to send over the revised contract, once my lawyer has looked over it.”
“I will do the same. Thanks for the meeting.” He guided the door open and waited for his guest to move through it.
“Until then, Grace.”
Without waiting for a reply Octavian snapped at his bodyguard and they disappeared down the passage.
“How do you feel about this?”
“There’s something not quite right Hazel, I just can’t figure out his angle.”
“Fully agree,” She shuddered, “He gives me the creeps.”
“Have you managed to find anyone else that could potentially take over this project?”
“Not yet Boss but you will be the first to know when I do.”
“Thanks Levesque, you truly are my saviour.” He gave her a grateful smile.
“Better put that on my gravestone,” She raised a brow.
“Done,” He laughed, “Any other requests?”
“Let’s get subs for lunch. I could do with some bread.”
He shook his head in amusement, “You drive a hard bargain but I’m willing to sacrifice for you.”
“Oh what was your plan Mr big-shot?” She pushed open the door to their offices.
“Today is burrito-bowl day and you know it.”
“I did forget,” She scrunched her nose, “But I’m extra grateful now.”
He snorted at her, ready to give a snarky remark before he was cut off by the shrill ring of his cell phone.
“Talk to me.”
“What’s up Grace, how’s your lunch hour looking?” Leo Valdez greeted.
“Levesque and I are going to get subs at Garden Girl, want to join?”
“I’ll meet you there.” And then he was gone.
“Ever the efficient caller isn’t he,” Hazel chuckled.
“Most days, which is weird since he’s a rambler face-to-face.”
They got to the contemporary restaurant on eighty-fifth avenue, spotting Leo outside.
“Hello,” His smile was wide as he hugged them.
“Who decided to give you a break? Don’t you have lectures right now?”
“Nah,” He grinned, “Guest lecturer teaching my slot this week, so I got two hours free.”
“The beauty of teaching postgrad, I assume?” Hazel asked.
“You know it Levesque!”
“What are we getting?”
“Don’t know about you but I’m getting the ‘Jazz It Up’ sub, got to stick to my New Orleans heritage.”
“Good afternoon my favourite customers? Where’s the rest of the crew?”
Jason smiled brightly, “Hello Katie.”
“Annabeth is at work, she has some big contract finally closing up,” Leo said by way of greeting.
“Frank is doing the security rounds at the office,” Hazel offered.
“Thalia isn’t even in the country right now.” He shrugged
“There’s still someone missing,” She frowned, scanning their faces, “Piper! Where’s the pretty lady?”
“Oh,” Leo winced, “Yea that is a touchy subject.”
Katie gave them a sympathetic look, “Well what can I help you with today? The usual for you Haze?”
They all rattled off their orders and chatted with the owner of Garden Girl while they waited. Jason had met Katie when he was doing business courses for his urban and regional planning degree. Her forest green eyes and bright smile struck him stupid the first time he saw her in their Entrepreneurship and Business Management lecture. He never had the guts to make a move, but it didn’t matter because she had just entered a relationship with Travis Stoll. Now they’re married and expecting a child, as is the latest update.
“How’s Project Hestia going Grace?” Leo asked, pulling out a chair.
“Ugh I’m having a hard time with the outdoor center. I’m not gelling with the contractor, and I don’t know what to do,” He scrubbed a hand down his face.
“I know I can’t ask what exactly is wrong because of legal reasons but what do you need done?”
He motioned to Hazel to explain as he bit into his sub.
“Basically we want to create an outdoor recreation center for the community which includes a gym area, a kids’ area, movies, a park and picnic area, rock climbing, you know the usual.”
“Right that shouldn’t be too hard to draft up,” Dark eyebrows scrunched, “But this guy is what? Trying to fuck you over?”
“Essentially,” Jason nodded, “The problem is we don’t know how?”
“Okay give me the weekend and let me call up some people. I think I know someone who can help.”
His eyes widened, “You are literally the best friend in the entire world. We’ve been looking for weeks, and we haven’t found anyone else who specialises in this.”
Leo squeezed his hand, “I’m not letting you get screwed over, and my buddy would be more than happy to do it.”
“What’s his name?” Hazel had her phone out, the notes app open.
“Harley, he’s was the youngest kid in our engineering course. I think he graduated with his masters when he was like twenty,”
Jason choked, “What?”
“The kid is incredible. He beat us regularly in our weekly electrotech competitions.”
“Well tell him to give us a call and I’ll set up a meeting with Jason next week. We have until next Friday before we sign contracts with Titan.”
“Sounds good,” Leo plucked a pen he kept behind his ear and scribbled something on his hand, “So Jase,” His grin was trouble.
The blonde narrowed his eyes, preparing himself for trouble.
“What happened with you and Percy? Last I heard you were going on a date on Tuesday and then getting married.”
It was Hazel’s turn to choke, and after she recovered smacked her boss on the shoulder, glaring as if to say what the hell did you not tell me?
He rolled his eyes at his best friend, “I didn’t even get his number because I left so abruptly. And anyway I hear he’s dating Reyna now.”
Leo’s hickory eyes widened, “He’s what?”
“Yea I went by the school about a month ago and Nico told me they were dating.”
“How do they even know each other?”
“They met at the school. She was visiting Nico and he was wanted to become a sponsor cause he used to go there.”
“Yea sounds about right, he’s crazy nice.” Leo nodded
“How have I never met him before the dinner?”
“He moves around a lot,” Leo shrugged, “I’ve only met him a handful of times because whenever he’s here he makes a point to visit Annabeth.”
“Well he sounds like an angel,” His assistant mused.
“Looks like one too,” He muttered, “It’s okay anyway cause I uh–“ He scratched the back of his neck.
“Oh my gods,” Hazel’s earthy eyes glittered, “You met someone!”
Leo clapped his hands, a smile as bright as the sun on his face, “Who are they?”
“We’ve been on one date so no making a big deal about it.” He gave them a pointed look, “But Thalia set us up and she’s… wow.”
“Oh you are real caught up, aren’t you?” They raised twin brows at him.
“She’s just indescribable. She’s gorgeous and that’s the least impressive thing about her.”
“Well tell us everything.” Hazel prodded.
“Okay she’s a vet. She has four sisters, but she doesn’t talk to them much. She believes in order, oh it’s glorious. Everything in its space and a plan for everything.” He looked at Leo then, to which his friend flipped him off and then motioned for him to continue.
“She eventually wants to open her own animal clinic. And most importantly she gets along with Thalia.”
“She sounds like a dream Jase,” Hazel squeezed his shoulder, “I’m really happy for you.”
Leo nodded, eyes bright with love, “You deserve some happiness bud.”
“Thank you guys,” He found it hard to breathe as the overwhelming gratitude he felt for his friends swept through his body.
“Valdez, you’re going to the lake cabins in a couple weeks, right?”
“Oh yep,” Leo wiggled his eyebrows, “And guess what?”
“You are not!” He yelled, and then lowered his voice, “You are lying to me right now.”
“Oh gods,” Hazel caught on, “Are you ready? No wait of course you’re ready! When, how, what?”
“I bought the ring a couple weeks ago. We’ve been talking about it for a few months and this just feels like the right time.”
Jason whistled, “My best friends are finally getting married.”
“Oh gods I hope she says yes,” Leo looked a little sick all of a sudden.
“Of course she’s going to say yes. You guys have been inseparable since that first maths lecture when we all went to the wrong class.”
“There’s no way she turns you down, I’ve seen the way you look at each other.” Hazel agreed.
“The way we look at each other?” Leo frowned at her, confusion evident in his face.
“Like you’re the only ones in the room. Like she is the match and you are the striker.”
Jason nodded, “The moment you two locked eyes at the bonfire it was like the universe threaded two strands through the same needle.”
“Well now I’m emotional and feeling much more confident about it.”
They laughed then, getting up to hug each other. Jason felt the world settle, still, slow. The wind whispered softly, and beams of sun caught between them. If nothing else he had this, and he would hold onto it until his bones were dust and his soul was a star once more.

Pleaseeee tell me about your backstory for Renata. What was her childhood like and how did she end up at Gusteau's? What was her personality and interests? Who were her friends and who were her enemies? How did her relationship with Gusteau go, from beginning to middle to end? And what did she do when she discovered she was pregnant? Did he ever know about it? What did she do for a living and how did she die? What kind of mother was she? I'm sorry if this is too much I'm just inordinately interested in this character we never see sjwjsjehdgs.
SOMEONE IS ASKING ABOUT RENATA? MY BABY GIRL?!! oh anon, you've come to the right person. For years I have obsessed over who Renata might have been and gotten so attached to her despite us knowing NOTHING about her from what we see in the movie.
Should probably put this under a cut because it is LONG. But you asked for ALL the details, so I'm gonna give you the wHOLE STORY.
Let me preface this by saying that back in the day, I had this weird obsession with trying to make everything ~connected~ and this was part of why my old fic ended up so convoluted. But one of the things I just can't let go of to this day was the idea that Renata was actually raised by Anton Ego's older sister Maura, who ran a prestigious boarding/finishing school for girls in Paris. (May or may not have been inspired by Madeline, lol)
Renata Marieta Linguini was soft-spoken, well-mannered, and shy, with a sarcastic sense of humor and a feisty and opinionated side, despite being mostly reserved and quiet. She loved to write and journaled extensively, she was a terrible cook but could always make an amazing pot of macaroni and cheese, always wore knit sweaters or cardigans and a pair of red Chuck Taylor sneakers, and her favorite band in the world was Journey. She loved her son Alfredo more than anything else in the world. She had him at the young age of 19 and wanted to give him the best life possible despite being a young, single mother.
Her parents were wealthy owners of a historical and expensive piece of real estate - a mansion built in the 17th century in Paris by the Linguini ancestors and passed down through the generations. (peep the origin of my username, haha) This was the building used for the finishing school. Renata's parents passed away in an accident when she was a baby, and Maura took her in and raised her alongside the other girls she taught at the school. The girls were from all parts of the world including America, and Renata ended up adapting an American accent from growing up around many American girls. Maura and her brother Anton were not close at this time. They had gone their separate ways after Anton became a professional writer, and she a teacher. Anton knew Maura was caring for an orphan girl but did not know much about her, which is why later on he did not recognize Alfredo despite the fact that his mother was raised by Anton's sister.
Growing up in a finishing school for girls, Renata was very sheltered and controlled, so there was always a part of her that wanted to get out into the world and live a fun-filled, carefree life. She was too cautious and fearful of the world to fully live that out, but her best friend Larousse was her opposite and always doing something crazy. (Yes, the same Larousse from the kitchen, I'll explain!) While he was in cooking school as a young adult, he met his bubbly, charismatic colleague Auguste Gusteau, as well as a couple other chefs who would eventually become the original chefs working in Gusteau's restaurant. Larousse introduced Renata to Auguste and the two hit it off immediately, and their relationship became very serious very quickly. They were both young, just out of school, and wanted to experience the world together. Although Gusteau was still in cooking school, he spent a lot of time traveling and learning about food from all over Europe, and Renata went on many of these trips with him. His outgoing and enthusiastic personality brought out the playful, adventurous side in Renata, and they were very much in love with each other and wanted to spend their life together.
This was just before Gusteau would officially start his career. He was, at that time, learning under the direction of Skinner, an experienced sous chef who saw Gusteau's potential and charisma, but secretly wanted to exploit it for his own gain. Skinner did not like Renata at all and felt he was distracting Auguste Gusteau from their plan to open a restaurant and build a world-famous menu and brand. At the time Renata found out she was pregnant, it was just around the same time the restaurant opened, and the two had actually already separated on good terms due to pressure from Skinner. (They still loved each other, but it was one of those things they felt was necessary at the time, perhaps praying one day they could reunite.) Not wanting to draw any negative attention or bad press to Gusteau, Renata never revealed the identity of her baby's father; only a few of the people closest to her knew, even if she never actually told them. She ended up living a quiet life in Paris with her son, still maintained her friendship with Larousse, but distanced herself from Gusteau so as not to cause any further problems for him or his career, even though it broke her heart to do so.
Being newly-single with a child made it difficult for her to start life on her own. She received some help from Maura to secure a place to live and get child care for her son, so she could find a job. She ended up taking a job at the school library where Alfredo would attend classes, so they went to school and came home together every day. The two were very close, and Alfredo subconsciously took on the role of a caretaker for his mother when he became old enough to realize that raising him alone was difficult for her at times. Alfredo did not have many friends, and neither did Renata, but she always did the best she could to make him feel special and loved on his birthday when no one from his class would show up, and Bastille Day was their favorite day of the year spent together celebrating the Parisian festivities.
In her late thirties, Renata unexpectedly developed ovarian cancer and had to quit working, leaving her teenage son desperate to find jobs to keep them afloat. Alfredo cared for her while she was sick and took her to her cancer treatments, which meant he often had to call out of work, and made many of his employers frustrated. Most of the time he ended up getting let go of jobs for this reason. Renata contacted Larousse near the end of her life and made sure he knew that she would be sending Alfredo his way, and left Alfredo with the letter for Skinner since she knew he would most likely turn her son away. After she passed away, Alfredo could not afford to keep their home, and was forced to move into a small apartment while he scrambled to keep his head above water. Despite Renata's family being wealthy, they had left her no inheritance, so she had nothing to pass on to Alfredo besides a small amount she had set aside for his college, but he ended up having to live off of it instead, until he landed the job at Gusteau's.
I still feel like there is SO MUCH I left out, like I have extensively fleshed out this character if it wasn't apparent already. Thank you anon for reminding me of how much I love Renata and how much I want to go back to editing some old fic pieces about her haha

Hideaway
Hey guys!! So I randomly had a dream that included Ransom even though I haven’t seen the movie yet (I know I’m trying lol). Although my whole dream wasn’t about him, this imagine is based off of a small part and hopefully you guys like it! 😊💕
Tumblr media
Pairing: Ransom Drysdale x Black Reader
Warnings: None
“ARE YOU MAD?! YOU THINK ITS OK TO STORAGE FOOD LIKE THIS?!!,” Gordon Ramsey yelled at yet another restaurant owner while going through their pantry.
Shaking your head, you laugh in disbelief as the kitchen staff begins the blame game pointing fingers at everyone else on why things aren’t correct. While sitting at home on a Friday night watching tv might not be ideal for everyone, you had been looking forward to it all week.
Although you loved your job of being a kindergarten teacher, and your students, you definitely needed some me time on the weekends. Thus why you were currently snuggled under your blanket in your pajama shorts and an old graphic tee with your favorite snacks beside you and loving every minute of it.
Just as a commercial comes on, a strong knock on your front door slightly startles you from the noise as well as the fact that you weren’t expecting anyone. Making your way to your front door, you look through the peephole to meet an unpleasant surprise.
Dressed up in black pants and dress shoes along with a white button down shirt stained with red wine, there stood your best friend since 3rd grade, Ransom Drysdale, looking rich and smug as always.
“Cupcake!,” he smiled with open arms.
You hated that nickname ever since he gave it to you in high school, and he knew that too which is why he kept using it. Long story short, never ask Ransom to pretend to be your boyfriend so a not so secret admirer can leave you alone.
“Hugh,” you smile back, arms crossed in front of you as he rolls his eyes. Just as you hated “cupcake” he hated his first name, Hugh, which was all the ammunition you needed to annoy him.
“What are you doing here and what happened to your shirt?”
“Well, lets just say Candice isn’t my biggest fan right now,” he explains, walking into your apartment and sitting on the arm of your couch.
“Ok so I’m guessing that’s where the wine stain came from, but that still doesn’t explain why you’re here when you have your own place you could be at right now.”
“Because she kicked me out of said place,” he sighs rubbing his temple. “We we’re having dinner and one thing led to another and she kicked me out, which is why I’m here.”
Knowing him for so long, you knew when Ransom wasn’t fully telling the truth. But in a situation like this, you thought it best to just leave it alone.
“Here give me your shirt,” you finally speak after a few moments of silence.
“Cupcake?!,” he gasps, hand on his chest and signature smirk across his face. “You know I always had my suspicions that you might have a thing for me.”
“Give me your shirt so I can wash it genius,” you retort holding your hand out. Laughing, he unbuttons his shirt before placing it in your hands.
“Let me get this started and I’ll bring you a new pair of clothes. Until then there’s food and drinks in the fridge, and don’t break anything,” you reply before disappearing to your laundry room.
He may not seem like it, but Ransom was grateful you were always there for him. Anytime he needed to get away from everything, or an irate girlfriend, he knew you’d welcome him in for as long as he needed. Well within reason that is.
That’s why Candice, or any of his exes for that matter, didn’t like you. No matter how many times you assured them that you and Ransom were just friends and you wouldn’t dare do anything to compromise their relationship, they still didn’t trust you. And in those times they found out he was hiding out at your place, it always made the situation worse resulting in a screaming match or a flat out break up.
Wrapped up in Gordon Ramsey gagging while trying entrees at a restaurant, a knock at the door makes him sigh at having to move from his spot on the couch.
“Oh hi I’m Bo, I live across the hall over there. Sorry for interrupting your evening I was just gonna give Y/N her mail, they accidentally put it in my box again.” About an inch taller than Ransom, a muscular man with short black hair and deep brown eyes stood in the doorway clearly just getting back from his workout from the clothes he was wearing and water bottle in hand.
“Thanks I’ll make sure she gets it,” he answers with a dry smile, taking the few envelopes from his other hand.
“So you must be her boyfriend,” Bo speaks up just as Ransom moves to close the door. Looking puzzled with one eyebrow raised, he crosses his arms in front of him to discretely show off his muscles and subtly say “yea, you’re not the only one who lifts.”
“Who wants to know?”
“Oh I don’t mean any disrespect, I just assumed since I’ve seen you around here a few times, plus I mean you did just open the door without a shirt,” he nervously laughs. “I mean if you guys are just friends though, I wouldn’t mind taking her out. Don’t tell her I said that though!”
“Hm, well good thing she already has a boyfriend then huh?,” Ransom smugly smiles before closing the door in Bo’s face.
“Who was at the door?,” you ask returning with a pair of sweats and shirt for him to wear.
“Just one of your comical neighbors giving you your mail, and are you hoarding my stuff now?”
“No, more like holding it in a lost and found since you keep leaving stuff over here!”
“Like you don’t like having little momentos of me here,” he smirks putting on his plain dark grey shirt. “Plus I know you wear my shirts sometimes.”
Scoffing, you laugh as you sit down on the couch to continue your “Kitchen Nightmares” marathon while he goes in your room to change his pants. In all honesty though, he was right about you wearing his shirts. So yea you sometimes wore them when you wanted to feel extra cozy, what girl doesn’t like oversized shirts?
And yea you might’ve also liked how they somehow still smelled like him, that didn’t mean anything!
Before he could sit down coming back from the bathroom, he looks down at his vibrating phone before sucking his teeth.
“Yes?,” he answers sounding exhausted and not in the mood to talk as he leans against the counter.
“Where are you?,” Candice asks. Shrill voice traveling all the way to where you were sat on the couch.
“Why does it matter, you kicked me out remember?”
“I know but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about you or want to make sure you’re ok.”
“Well don’t worry I’m fine.”
“Why are you talking so low? Wait are you at her place?!”
“Candice don’t-,”
“No Ransom Drysdale are you at Y/N’s apartment yes or no?!”
Hearing him get quiet, you slightly turn to see him look at you before looking down at the floor. “Yes”
“Why am I not surprised. You know what, since she’s the one you always want to run to, she can have you because I’m done! Hope you both have a nice life!”
And with that, her voice was gone and you could hear Ransom put his phone in his pocket as he sat beside you.
“I’m so sorry Ransom, I didn’t mean to cause anything-,”
“Don’t apologize. This happened because of something going on way before I came here tonight,” he interrupts looking straight ahead at the tv screen.
“But that’s the thing, I’m what’s been going on and it’s been that way for a while now,” you respond. “Look Ransom, maybe it’d be best that you not come over anymore or that we not even be friends.”
Muting the tv, he turns to look at you. The intensity from his blue eyes making you slightly nervous from never experiencing it before.
“Is that what you want?”
“I mean of course not, but your girlfriends-,”
“Let me worry about my at the time girlfriend, ok? But if you don’t want to be friends anymore, or want me over, then say the word and it’s done. So I ask you again, is that what you want?”
“....No it’s not.”
“Then it’s settled,” he responds turning the sound back on the tv. “So how are those germ infested piranhas of yours?”
“1. Don’t call them that and 2. They’re good,” you laugh taking a few sips of your juice. “You should come during story time one day and read to them!”
“I think I’d rather swim with actual piranhas,” he answers stealing a few of your chips.
———
Waking up with a stretch, you look at your phone to see that it’s 2 am and that both you and Ransom had fallen asleep on the couch.
“Ransom, wake up we fell asleep.” Lightly shaking his shoulder, his eyes flutter open as he yawns lifting his head.
“What time is it?”
“A little after 2 am. Since it’s so late you can crash here if you want.”
“Ok just hand me a pillow and I’ll sleep out here,” he sleepily answers, rubbing his eyes as he sits upright.
“You can sleep in the bed you know, it’s not like we haven’t shared before.”
“Trying to take advantage of me in my vulnerable state huh?,” he smirks removing part of the blanket from his lap.
“Whatever I was just offering because I know a certain spoiled brat is gonna complain about his back in the morning if he does sleep on the couch,” you counter with a smirk of your own.
Rolling his eyes, he helps you clean up before following you to your room and taking off his shirt and sweats before sliding into bed. Wrapping your hair up in your bonnet, you climb in your side of the bed, cutting off the light on your bedside table.
“Night cupcake,” Ransom smiles.
“Night Hugh,” you softly laugh, turning away from him towards the starlit sky outside your window.
Feeling the bed shift beside you from his movements, you start to turn your head to tell Ransom to calm down, but are cut off by his strong arm wrapping around your waist and gently bringing you towards his chest. With his breath lightly tickling the back of your neck, you weren’t sure if it was your heart racing or his from how close you were.
Again, you’d shared a bed plenty of times, but never gotten this close before so you were definitely caught off guard. However, you couldn’t lie that being there made you feel comfortable, secure, and more relaxed than you had been in a while.
“Um Ransom you awake still?,” you ask barely above a whisper.
“Hm,” he replies basically telling you that in the next few minutes, he’d be in a deep sleep.
“I doubt you’ll tell me, but what did you and Candice fight about over dinner?”
Only hearing his soft snores, you figure you’ll never know what happened, and took that as a sign that you probably shouldn’t, since he would just tell you not to worry about it if you asked him tomorrow. Before drifting off to sleep yourself though, you hear him mumble something you couldn’t quite understand.
“What did you say?”
“You,” he repeats burying his head into the back of your neck as your heart beats so loud, you doubt you’ll ever get back to sleep.
Again hope you guys like it and sorry if it’s super long or non-canon😬 (hopefully it’s canon though since I tried really hard to capture Ransom and his Ransomness lol)

GIRL’S TRIP- Ch. 2
“Yeah, we’ll be there soon, Unni! Thanks for renting out the space to us, I really appreciate it! Yeah.... Yeah.... Okay, see you in about 15 minutes. Mmhmm... Okay, bye!” Savannah hung up her phone and turned to Annie and Jilly. “That was Ivy. She said that she’ll meet us outside the apartment when we arrive in Apgujeong. It’s the cutest shopping and fashion area! And it’s within Gangnam so we’ll get to be in that general area.”
“How exciting! But you didn’t have to take care of our housing arrangements, we could’ve helped!” Annie said from the front seat of the taxi car, Happy excitedly looking between the window and the driver.
“Yeah, we could’ve helped pick out a place. You wouldn’t even let us see the pictures of the place.” Jilly said, pouting. Savannah knew it drove her friends crazy to not know about the apartment, but she really wanted it to be a surprise for them after all they had done for her over the years.
“Don’t worry about it, guys! I wanted do this and you can always pay me back with food.” Savannah said, grinning widely at the thought of food. Annie and Jilly just rolled their eyes and sat back in their seats, looking out the window at the beautiful city. The mix of modern and traditional living harmoniously throughout the buildings. Beautiful architecture, extraordinary sculptures, and exquisite temples flooded the city with culture and life. Annie and Jilly forgot their anxieties and immersed themselves in the sights of the structures and the sounds of the bustling people.
“Ahjusshi, it’s my friends’ first times in Korea. What should we eat first?” Savannah asked, leaning to the side so the taxi driver could see her in the rear view mirror.
“Hmmmm,” The driver rubbed his face, thinking about the different types of decadent dishes that the country had to offer. “You had a long flight, yes?” He said, looking over at Annie, who nodded. “Then, I would suggest something hearty. They never serve enough food on those planes. Either budaejjigae or jjajangmyun.” All three girls were almost drooling at the thought of the dishes. He was right, they really had only eaten snacks on the flight, partly due to the nerves of traveling, partly because of nerves from a certain group of guys.
“Thank you, ahjusshi.” Savannah said, smiling gratefully at the driver. It was mid-afternoon now. By the time that they were settled, it would be dinner time and they could go grab something delicious.
The girls kept up the conversation with their driver, who had reached over to pet the puppy who wouldn’t stop staring at him until he gave her the proper attention. After a few more minutes, they finally arrived at the apartment. Savannah called Ivy to tell her that they had arrived. Savannah was pulling the suitcases out of the trunk when a very excited Ivy ran up behind her and embraced her. Savannah turned around, shocked, then squealed at her friend, excitedly hugging her back.
“I missed you so much! Oh my gosh, how are you? Are these your friends? Hi, I’m Ivy! Savannah and I were co-teachers before!” Ivy rambled off, shaking Annie and Jilly’s hands. “Oh! A puppy! She reminds me so much of Pie! Can I hold her?” Ivy asked, hopefully. Annie just nodded and handed over the shih tzu.
“Yeah, she’s the one who gave me my Korean name.” Savannah laughed before pulling out the rest of the bags.
“Yeah, some of our kids would always ask her about it so I gave her one. But come on, I’ll take you up to the apartment.” Jilly paid the taxi driver for the ride and they followed Ivy into the building. In the elevator, she told them about her family buying the plot of land a while ago and that it was full of luxury apartments. She added that the interior was made with an industrial yet clean feel to it.
Reaching the right floor, they walked to one of the doors and Ivy balanced Happy in one arm while she pushed in the key code. The door chimed it’s little welcome ring when Ivy opened the door to a beautiful open apartment.
Tumblr media
Annie and Jilly’s jaws dropped as their entered the gorgeous French-modern home. Savannah just smiled and turned to Ivy, taking her shoes off before entering the space. Ivy put Happy down, letting the dog finally roam free. Annie and Jilly basically jumped out of their shoes to look around the living and dining areas. They squealed and awed over the details and view.
“Thanks again for letting us have this one.” Savannah said, leaning against the wall with Ivy.
“What’s so special about this apartment, in particular?” Annie inquired, turning around with an eyebrow raised
“It’s got four rooms. Savannah told me that there would be four of you and I just so happened to have this one open up recently.” Ivy smiled. Annie and Jilly turned to Savannah, daggers basically shooting at their friend. They had been told that there would only be two rooms for the girls to pair up in. Savannah just shrugged and smiled.
“Anyways, let’s get dinner sometime this week. Okay? Also, I left my number, the gate code, and the door code on the counter in the kitchen. Oh, and trash day is on Thursday. Call me if you need me!” Ivy explained, putting her jacket and shoes back on.
“Sounds good, I’ll message you on Kakao once we get SIM cards.” Savannah said, walking her back to the door. “I appreciate everything you’ve done. Say hi to your hubs and baby for me.” Savannah gave Ivy another hug before she left. Once the door closed, Savannah turned to see her two best friends stalking towards her with stern faces. Savannah just sighed, shoved her hands in her pockets, and prepared for the worst.
“Why didn’t you tell us?!” Annie barked. “This place must have cost a fortune.”
“Yeah, especially because we’re going to be getting our own rooms! Dude, please let us help you with this!” Jilly pleaded.
“No guys, its fine! I’ve wanted to do this since we started thinking about it. I saved up money from my last series and I got a huge signing bonus for my current series. I specifically wanted to do this for you guys. Please don’t take that away from me.” Annie and Jilly pouted at her, knowing that they couldn’t convince her otherwise.
“Fine,” Annie sighed. “Let’s go take a look at the rooms. I want to get settled before we head to dinner.”
“We need to get our phone cards before the shops close too. We can do that on our way out.” Jilly said, grabbing her suitcase and hoisting it up the stairs.
After looking around the upstairs areas and heavy deliberation, the girls decided on their rooms.

The girl’s moved their stuff to their rooms before taking turns in the shower. They were all greasy and gross from the flight and they wanted to clean up for dinner. The weather outside was still chilly, especially as the sun started to set so the girls decided to dress a little warmer before setting out.

Leaving Happy with some food and water, the girls set off to find food. Annie and Jilly told Savannah to pick the restaurant since she surprised them with the apartment. They walked down the busy street until they passed a phone shop.
“Hey, let’s get our SIM cards while we’re out!” Jilly said, pulling the other two into the SK shop. After 30 minutes of working with the staff, they finally got their cards implanted in their phones, new phone numbers set, and paid for the next month of service. With that taken care of, they set off for dinner once again.
Looking around the surrounding streets, Savannah finally spotted a budaejjigae shop and she pointed it out to the others.
“This is perfect for a cool night like this! Let’s go!” The other two followed her into the shop and they sat down next to the window. Their mouths watered as they looked over the menu. Finally deciding on their order, they called the shop owner over and pointed out the stew they wanted along with a few sodas to help cut some of the stew’s greasiness. A few minutes later, their food came out and the owner watched as the girls’ eyes nearly flew out of their sockets at the beauty before them.
Tumblr media
Once the budaejjigae had fully cooked, the girls started digging in. They all moaned out at the array of flavors hitting their tongues, only to receive weird looks from the patrons around them. Ignoring them, they fully dug into the delicious meal, savoring every bite and element within the spicy broth. They talked about what they wanted to do the next day, seeing as they were all exhausted and they wanted to be up and recharged once morning came around. Upon reaching the bottom of the pot, they slowed down on their eating and relaxed into the seats, looking out at the people walking by.
“So have you guys thought about reaching out to the boys?” Savannah asked, quietly, causing the other two to blush. They had been so focused on the apartment and food that the incidents from earlier in the day had somehow slipped their minds.
“Not yet. I wouldn’t even know what to say to him.” Annie said, looking down at her phone.
“Me too. How do you even talk to them?” Jilly said, taking a sip of her soda.
“Talk to them like you did on the plane. Like their ‘normal people’,” Savannah said, putting air quotes around the last part.
“Says the girl who could barely look Tae in the eyes. You didn’t even look at Namjoon.” Annie said, looking at her with a raised brow. Savannah just slouched.
“I dunno, dude. But from what you guys said, you told them that you’d message them once you guys got your SIM cards.” Savannah countered, grinning mischievously. Annie and Jilly just looked at each other, flushed.
“Okay, but should we plan out what we say first?” Jilly asked, looking between the other two.
“What about just ‘Hi, it’s Jilly/Annie from the plane.’ It’s just letting them know that you didn’t forget about them.” Savannah threw out, taking the last bite of stew.
“What if they forgot about us?” Annie whined. She fiddled with her phone, looking at Yoongi’s contact.
“I HIGHLY doubt they did. Especially with how Yoongi was looking at you. Besides, it doesn’t hurt to try though.”
“Easy for you to say, you didn’t get any of their numbers. You’d be freaking out like us if you had.” Jilly pouted.
“Very true, but maybe there’s a reason I didn’t get it. We don’t all need to be freaking out here.” Savannah just smiled. Annie and Jilly just stared down at their phones.
“Jilly, did you get a chance to put Kookie’s number in your phone before we left the apartment?” Annie asked, whispering so no one could overhear. The last thing they needed was someone attacking them over talking about BTS.
“I did in the taxi when we were leaving the airport.” Jilly said, sipping on her soda. Annie nodded and they both looked back at their phones. Savannah looked over at Annie’s phone and smirked.
“I’m surprised you didn’t put him down as ‘Yoongles Bear’.” Savannah chided, earning a light shove from Annie.
“Shut up! I wouldn’t do that... yet.” Annie whispered the last part, causing the other two to smirk.
“Okay, I wrote something out. Can you guys look over it first?” Jilly said, causing the other two to look at her. She handed her phone over to Annie and her and Savannah read it: ‘Hey, it’s Jilly, from the flight. I got my SIM card 😊’.
“That looks good, Jilly!” Annie smiled.
“Yeah, but I’m nervous to send it.”
“Wait, you didn’t want us to push send for you?” Savannah asked, wide-eyed and biting her lip.
“You didn’t. Please tell me you didn’t.” Jilly said, grabbing her phone from them. The message was still in the typing box. Jilly glared at Savannah, who just stuck her tongue out at her, jokingly.
“But for real, do you want us to send it for you?” Annie asked, pulling Jilly’s attention from Savannah.
“Ummm, I don’t know. How about this; You type out your message and we’ll send the messages from each other’s phones.”
“Ugh, but I don’t know what to say.” Annie said, frustrated.
“Babe, just say something along the lines that Jilly said. It’s just an introductory text. You don’t need to worry too much about it.” Savannah said, her face finally serious. Annie just nodded and typed something out. She handed the phone over to Jilly and she read it: ‘Hey, it’s Annie. I’m glad that Happy could keep you company on the flight.’ Savannah looked over and read the message as well and nodded.
“Looks good to me.” Jilly said, handing her phone over to Annie. “Okay, let’s send them on the count of 3... 1... 2... 3.” And, with that, the texts were sent.
A few minutes of anxiety-induced silence filled the space. Savannah was looking in between the two girls who were trying not to look at their phones. She knew they were both riddled with anxious thoughts so she stood up, making both of them jump out of their own minds.
“Come on, let’s go walk around. You two need some crisp fresh air.” Savannah said, grabbing her bag and walking over to the cashier, paying for their dinner while they gathered their stuff.
“Will you stop paying for stuff?!” Jilly groaned once they were outside the restaurant.
“Nope.” Savannah said, winking at Jilly. They walked down a shopping street, looking in some of the windows of the cute shops and seeing the trends and pastel colors that comes with the spring season.
“It’s supposed to warm up a little later this week. We can hopefully wear some of the cuter outfits that we brought and get some good pictures with the cherry blossoms.” Jilly said, looking at the array of blossoming trees that lined the street. One of the shop’s doors were open and playing beautiful classical music, adding to the romantic atmosphere of the street.
“That would be really nice.” Annie agreed, still looking at the cute clothes and accessories in the shops. She was excited to find some cute outfits at the shops. The styles in Korea was very different to American styles and she was happy for the change. She turned to find only Jilly looking at the trees and people walking around in cute outfits.
“Where’s Savannah?” She asked, looking through the small masses of people that bustled through the street. Jilly looked down the line of trees until she spotted a familiar head.
“There she is.” She said, walking over to where the girl stood. They found Savannah taking pictures of a lamppost’s light filtering through the cherry blossom leaves and petals.
“Savannah, I swear. Why didn’t you tell us you were stopping?!” Annie scolded her.
“I would’ve caught up eventually. I just wanted to take this picture.” Savannah said, not taking her eyes off of her camera.
“Ah,” Jilly started, “We should probably get back to take care of Happy. We’ve been gone for a few hours.” The girls looked over at Jilly, then their watches. 9:38 PM. The girls nodded and started heading back to the apartment.
The walk back was chilly but, with their bellies full of warm food, they were able to talk and enjoy the nice crisp air. They laughed and talked the whole way home. They were almost to the apartment when they stopped at a convenience store for drinks and snacks. Once they finally got back into the apartment, Happy came running up to them, excitedly.
“Hey guys, I’m gonna take her out to go potty. I’ll be right back.” Annie said, clipping Happy’s leash onto her harness and taking her outside.
While out on the apartment walking trail, a ding went off in Annie’s pocket. She pulled out her phone and squealed when she saw the name pop up on her lock screen. Nearly dropping her phone, she stuffed her phone back in her pocket. Quickly, she cleaned up after happy, threw the waste back into the bin, and hurried Happy back to the building.
Savannah and Jillian were just finishing up with putting the snacks away when Annie barreled through the door, shih tzu in tow behind her. The other two looked behind them, startled at the sudden outburst.
“Yoongi text me back!” Annie panted. Savannah and Jilly’s eyes went wide and they ran over to her.
“Really?? What did he say?” They spoke in unison.
“I don’t know, I haven’t looked yet. I freaked out too much.” Annie said, sliding out of her shoes and taking the leash off of Happy, who just trotted away.
“Well look! Let’s see what he said!” Jilly squealed. Annie pulled the phone out of her pocket and opened the message.
Tumblr media
Savannah cupped her hands under the phone, afraid that Annie would drop it. Annie just stared at the phone, reading and rereading the message. She couldn’t believe what he was said. Jilly and Savannah couldn’t tell if she was breathing, so Jilly slipped the phone from Annie’s hands and set it on the dining room table.
“Why don’t you go get changed and wash your face, then you can respond. Okay? Give yourself time to think of something to say.” Jilly pushed Annie towards the stairs where her and Savannah followed, wanting to change into their own PJ’s, as well.
Once everyone was washed up and changed into their pajamas, Savannah heated up some hot water for tea and cocoa. Annie grabbed her phone and the girls proceeded over to the couch, curling up under blankets and sipping their drinks.
“Have you thought about what your gonna say?” Savannah asked.
“Kinda. I’m still in a state of shock.” Annie said, processing the fact that Yoongi actually text back.
“Well, why don’t you start by replying to his question?” Jilly offered. Annie just nodded her head and started typing it out... then erasing... then typing again.... and erasing again.
“Babe..” Savannah started.
“I know, but I don’t want to come off too technical, you know? Sometimes, I can’t control how I come off. I don’t want to be short or anything.” Annie ran her fingers through her hair, thinking about how to strategically text the rapper back. She started texting back and hit send before projecting the phone at Savannah, smacking into her stomach.
“Oof, what the hell!”
“I’m sorry, I’m just nervous!” Savannah rubbed her stomach while looking down at the screen and reading out the message.
“Yeah we arrived safely, haha. Savannah surprised us with a really pretty apartment in Apgujeong. Did you get home safely? 😊”
“Babe, that’s perfect. You don’t need to stress about it more.” Savannah said, placing the phone on the table. Jilly just ‘awed’ at Annie and giggled as Annie lightly smacked her arm.
“By the way, Jilly, did Jungkook text you back?” Savannah asked, leaning back against the cozy couch.
“Oh right, my phone is on silent. Let me check!” She said, reaching into her jacket pocket. She pulled out her phone and looked down at the screen.
“Not yet.” She said, a tone of sadness in her voice.
“Let’s be honest, he’s probably at the gym.” Annie shrugged, a light playfulness in her voice.
“or scarfing his face with Jin... or wine drunk again.,” Savannah chimed in, smirking. “Anyways, don’t worry about it right now. We have a full day to seize tomorrow and we should get some sleep.” Annie and Jilly nodded, draining the last of their drinks before cleaning up the mugs and heading upstairs.
Once in her room, Jilly stretched out on her bed and started watching videos when a familiar name popped up on the screen. Jilly’s eyes went wide and her phone slipped from her grip, falling right onto her face.
“Ow, shit!” She cursed, rubbing on the bridge of her nose. Sitting up, she opened the message and squealed.
Tumblr media
“Why is he so cute???!! I can’t handle it!” Jilly moaned, flailing her legs on the bed in overwhelming excitement. She rolled around the blankets before sitting up and typing out her message: ‘Yeah, we ate Budaejjigae because it was chilly outside. It was so yummy 😋 Did you get home safely?’
With that, Jilly plugged in her phone and fell asleep after a few long minutes of thinking about the events of the last 24 hours.

Give  -Part 2
Summary: Bucky and (Y/N) had an amazing yet brief relationship in Bucharest before all hell broke loose. Two years later they reconnect in a bar in Brooklyn, but things have changed and neither are the same as they were before. Will their relationship survive or is a break up inevitable?
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader
Word Count: 2.2k
Warnings: Language, angst, discussion of illness (stomach virus) and fluff I think is all for this slow burn.
Author’s Note: Hi again! This is part 2 of my submission to @bladebarnes’s #bladehits2kchallenge with the song Give by You Me At Six. It’s still all first person narration and I’m sorry that I suck, but parts 2 through 5 (maybe even 6) will all be completely flashbacks. But like cute or emotional flashbacks that I promise will hopefully be good. A god bless your beautiful soul to @lostboyinneverland for beta-ing for me again, I love you my bologna eating friend. Also here’s a Spotify playlist to listen to while reading the entire fic. Hopefully you all will like this and please bug me if you do!
And if you haven’t read Part 1 yet, please do!
Tumblr media
The first time Bucky Barnes spoke to me was on the same busy street lined with vendor stalls. It had been 2 days since Bucky caught me snorting at his hair, and both days were spent inside my studio since it had been pouring rain in Bucharest. That alone time meant I hadn’t be able to get his strained smile off my mind.
Although the rain hadn’t completely stopped, it lightened to a sprinkle during the early afternoon on the third day and I needed to leave the apartment. Surprisingly, there were a few vendors open and one that I found easily was a candle stall. There were several people poking around, buying different size candles, and speaking much more fluent Romanian than I could fully comprehend. The little bit I could catch was discussing different apartments losing their electricity and needing light.
I snuck into the corner of the stall, picking up a couple of the pillars to smell. They each had different fragrances like lavender, lemon, and rose, but nothing too sweet or artificial. One of the signs at the stall said “3 pentru 10” meaning that 3 candles would equal 10 lei, the currency in Romania. I picked out 2 rose and 2 lavender and lemon scented candles and showed them to the man behind the stand. “Cât de-, de mult… pentru patru?” I stumbled, wanting to know how much 4 candles would cost.
He pointed to the sign that said 3 for 10 and I repeated my question again, knowing that I wasn’t fluent enough in Romanian to haggle about the candle prices. I felt Bucky’s strong and quiet presence behind me before he spoke, a flicker of familiarity and warmth spreading up from my gut. Pulling a tight yet polite smile across his lips, he approached the table and began speaking to the man. They went back and forth quickly, and I could barely keep up with what they were saying, but I caught that Bucky kept asking for the cost and that the stall owner was possibly trying to up the price of an extra candle.
After another moment of quick negotiating, Bucky turned to me, his blue eyes holding my gaze for the first time ever. In perfect English with no accent he said, “He wants 13.50 lei for them.” My eyes widened as I registered that he must not be from Romania, but I nodded, placed my candles on the table and dug into my wallet for the 13.50. His voice had sounded gruff when he spoke to me, but in Romanian he sounded smooth, almost musical. As I handed the man my money, Bucky’s covered fingers placed the candles into a brown paper bag quickly. After the man had waved me off, Bucky shoved the bag into my hands and turned on his heel.
I spun around to follow him, weaving past the few people on the street but he moved so much quicker than I could. “He-hey!” I called out as I followed him across the street, pulling the hood up on my jacket. “Mulţ-, uh, thanks!” He looked over his shoulder at me, his baseball cap shielding his eyes, and nodded. He turned his focus back to the street and continued to stalk away from me, but I wasn’t letting him go that easily. I picked up my speed and followed him for half a block until he stopped at a corner to wait for some cars to pass. “Hey! What’s your name?” I asked as I caught up with him, my breathing uneven.
“Why do you need to know?” he asked, his voice coming out low and gravely again. He turned to look at me, his blue eyes appearing gray and becoming harsher as his jaw tensed.
“Well we’re neighbors, and if I’m gonna keep seeing you around and you’re gonna go out of your way to help me, I should at least know your name.”
“You don’t need to know my name. You need to work on your Romanian,” he snapped, catching me off guard and almost making me flinch. He noticed how I reacted to his small display of aggression, and I saw his eyes soften the tiniest bit as he dropped my gaze and continued walking.
I ignored my nerves and continued after him. “Oh, come on. We don’t have to be best friends, I’m just new here and having a vaguely familiar face around would be nice.”
He came to an abrupt stop, causing me to nearly crash into him. Turning to face me, he let out an exasperated sigh, “You’re not gonna stop following me, are you?”
“Nope,” I smirked as I tilted my head to the side.
He looked away from me and took in a deep breath as he tightened his fingers into fists. As he exhaled he dropped his gaze back to me and spoke quietly, “My name is Bucky.”
Taking my small victory as it came, I gave him a toothy smile and stuck my hand out to shake his, “It’s nice to meet you Bucky, I’m (Y/N).” His eyes dropped to my hand and he stared at it like it was a foreign object. After a moment of awkwardly leaving my hand outstretched, I shrugged and dropped it. His dark blue eyes met mine once again and regarded me with a nod. I nodded back and just as quickly as he had stopped in his tracks, he turned and continued on his way. This time I didn’t follow him, but called out, “See you around.”
The first time I saw Bucky Barnes blush was in the doorway of my apartment. There was one more day of rain in Bucharest after I’d first spoken with Bucky. The day after that when the rain cleared up, I decided to adventure a little further into the city. I’d gone to a museum and a couple old churches, and on my way back to my apartment, I stopped at a small restaurant and ordered some food. Unfortunately, I found out about 3 hours later that whatever I’d eaten either wasn’t cooked, or my body just couldn’t handle it because I was up all night vomiting. Even after my stomach was empty I didn’t stop dry heaving until the next morning. When my stomach eventually calmed down, the rest of my body was so tired I passed out on my bed.
I didn’t stir until there was a series of loud thuds against my front door. I shot up out of my sleep too quickly and had to regain control over my gag reflex before I could even place my feet on the ground. The knocks started again and I pushed myself off my mattress and padded to the door. Peeking through the tiny peep hole, I caught Bucky’s sharp jawline and chin-length brown hair before I registered that he was there. I paused with my hands flat against the door and looked at what I was wearing. A pair of boyshorts, sports bra, and tank top would have to be good enough today, and I wiped around my mouth to make sure there was no drool or dried grossness left on me.
Unlocking the door, I realized my breath probably still smelled like vomit but I gulped my concern and tried to put on a pleasant smile to greet Bucky with. His left hand paused in mid air as if he was about to knock on the door again, and then he tucked his hair behind his ear and shoved the gloved hand in his jeans pocket. His right hand was tucked behind his back. “Hi,” I croaked out of my sore throat.
“Uh, um, hi,” Bucky stammered out as he glanced at my hair and clothes. His eyes settled on my feet and he pulled a brown paper bag out from behind his back. “I uh, heard you up last night, with all your ugh, sickness.”
“Oh god, I’m sorry if I kept you up,” I apologized as I dropped my gaze to his chest. Somehow he was wearing two shirts and a jacket over. I leaned a little closer to him while placing my hand on the door frame, focusing on his face again.
“No, no, I was just a jerk to you a couple days ago,” he said as he shook his head and then finally held my gaze, “And you said you didn’t know anyone here so I figured I’d do something to apologize.” He lifted the bag a little higher between us, prompting me to take it from him. “It’s supa de pui cu galuste, it’s the Romanian version of-.”
“Chicken noodle soup,” I finished for him as I accepted the bag. “Yeah, I know.” I peeked into the bag and found a quart sized container filled with soup, a sleeve of crackers, a bottle of ginger ale, and a bottle of Gatorade.
“You know the food better than you know the language?” he asked, his brows furrowing.
“Yes, yes, very much so,” I nodded as I turned on my heel and walked down the hallway to place the bag on my small kitchen table. “But admittedly, I’m much better with other languages than I am with Romanian.” Bucky stepped tentatively toward my door, pausing in the door frame and causing it to squeak. “You can come in, if you want.”
“No, no, I’m okay.” He hesitated in the doorway, peering around my apartment without ever entering it.
“Yea, it’s probably best, you don’t want to get sick if this is a stomach bug,” I said as I took the drinks out of the bag and placed them in the crappy, old fridge.
“Oh uh, I didn’t know if you’d drink either of those but I heard those are good for stomach issues.” I glanced over my shoulder at him and nodded before I shut the refrigerator door. “And um, I haven’t been sick in a long time.”
I walked back to the doorway, staying just a couple feet in front of Bucky, taking in his raised arms that were placed on either side of my door frame. His body language told me he was slowly becoming more relaxed with me, and as he settled into my doorway his shoulders appeared even broader and his biceps pulled against his jacket. I had to force my attention back to his face, yet I wanted to reach out and touch him or even yank him into the apartment. “I mean, that makes sense, you’re built like a fucking truck,” I said as I lifted my hands towards his shoulders but stopped myself before I touched him.
When I shifted my focus back to his face, I caught a slight flush spreading across his cheeks and that his blue eyes had gone wider than usual. “Ugh, sorry,” I clasped my hands in front of me, “I know I don’t know you very well and cussing doesn’t make the best impression.”
He leaned a little farther into my doorway, causing his hair to fall over his face as let out one of the most beautiful sounds I’d ever heard, a low, soft chuckle. “No, no, it’s okay. I used to be around more language, it’s just been a while. Even then, women didn’t curse around me much.”
At that moment, I knew I’d do anything to hear that chuckle again. I tried not to wring my hands together too tightly as I tried to handle the butterflies rising from my stomach. “I’m normally a little better at filtering out my language unless I’m with certain people, but I’ve been kinda sick so I guess my filter’s gone.”
“It’s okay, you just surprised me,” he started as he swiped his hair back behind his ears. We both heard a set of footsteps somewhere on the stairwell behind us. “But it was a good surprise, I promise.” He tilted his head to the side and gave me a smirk, “It reminds me of home.”
“Home?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Ugh, Brooklyn actually.” He removed his hands from my door frame but kept his relaxed body language as he looked at me, a small smile pulling across his lips as he thought about home.
“Ah, then you’re used to hearing way worse,” I nodded and peaked past his shoulder. The footsteps got closer, and when they sounded like they were a few floors away from us, I saw him stiffen, erasing every inch of comfortability between us. Noticing how he continued to stare at me but that his eyes had gone distant, I knew he was focusing on whoever was on the stairs instead of me. “But ugh, thanks again for the soup, I really appreciate it.”
He shifted his attention back to me and nodded, “You’re welcome, feel better.” He took a couple steps backwards, placing distance between us.
“I’ll try, and um, I’ll owe you dinner or something for this,” I added as he got closer to the flight of stairs above my apartment.
“You really don’t have to,” he said with modesty, causing the corners of his eyes to crinkle.
“No I should, and we can figure that out later,” I answered as he stepped onto the first stair. “But thanks again, see you around.” He gave me a polite wave as he continued up the stairs and I closed my door a moment later. I watched him take the rest of the stairs to his apartment that were visible through my peephole, and tried to not focus on the fact that I’d maybe, just possibly, invited him over for a date.

The Golden Rose (Chapter 9)
It was weird sitting down in the deli they once called their second home. Lauren and Normani randomly found the little shop while on a search to find food. Neither of them had a car, so if they wanted to eat they had to go to somewhere near the school. However, the only restaurants close to the school were this deli and Wendy’s, andneither of them wanted to put greasy fast food in their bodies, so they settled with the deli.
The deli was a family owned restaurant. What once was a hopping place was now nearly falling apart. The stripped wallpaper was ripping off the walls and the wooden red door had trouble opening and closing, but the place felt welcoming and the sandwiches tasted like a piece of heaven.
For the last two months of the school year, Normani and Lauren ate at this place while they got to know each other. They had seen each other scarcely around the school building, but when they found out they’d be rooming together in their new apartment, they decided to use this time to get to know each other instead of it being like an awkward college freshmen dorm experience.
“I’ll pay for the both of us,” Normani stated as they walked into the restaurant. A wave of nostalgia hit the both of them.
“Are you sure?” Lauren asked.
“Yeah,” Normani nodded. “Go sit at our usual table.”
Lauren shuffled over to the black and red checkered table near the large front window. She smiled up at the same black and white picture hanging up on the wall. It was of the original shop owners who looked so happy and proud in front of their new shop.
Normani rung the little silver bell near the cash register to make their presence known - although the squeaky front door already did that. Seconds later, a young man emerged from the back. He had dark blue eyes and a cleanly shaved face. Normani swallowed hard as she watched him put on a white apron.
“Welcome to Uncle Girgorio,” the guy said, flashing a sparkling white smile. “How can I help you today?”
Before Normani could utter out a word, an older man appeared from the back.
“Normani?! Lauren?!” The man questioned as he looked at the two girls.
“Hi Uncle George,” Normani smiled.
“It’s been awhile,” Uncle George said as slipped on his apron before washing his hands and putting on gloves. “How have you girls been?”
“We’ve been alright,” Normani shared. They got to know the owner, George - or uncle George as they call him - a lot over their frequent trips to the restaurant. They all got to know each other a lot and he quickly became a real uncle to them. “And yourself?”
“The same old, same old. My nephew, Garrett is in town,” he said, nodding towards the young man beside him. “He’s been helping me getting this place back on it’s feet. Isn’t that right, Gar?”
“Trying,” Garrett replied with a slight laugh that made Normani’s heart do an entire tumble routine.
“So, uh, what can I get for you two? The usual?”
“That sounds amazing,” Normani said as she unzipped her wallet to get her debit card out.
“Don’t worry about it,” Uncle George said as Normani got ready to pay. “It’s on the house today.”
“You sure?” Normani questioned, knowing fully how well this place needed business in order to stay afloat.
“I’m sure."
"Thanks uncle G,” Normani shined before turning on her heels and walking over to a smirking Lauren.
“Someones in love,” Lauren teased as Normani took a seat.
“Shut up,” Normani growled through her teeth as Garrett walked over with their drinks.
“I have a sweet tea and a water,” Garrett awkwardly said as he held two paper cups.
“Water,” Lauren spoke up as she slightly raised her hand.
Garrett placed the cups down on the table, nearly knocking Normani’s cup over. Luckily, he caught it before it could spill all over the dark-skinned girl.
“I’m sorry,” Garrett quickly apologized, making sure none of the liquid spilled on the table or on Normani.
“You’re fine,” Normani replied as Lauren tried to hold in her laughter. Norman glared over at Lauren, giving her a hard kick in the shin.
“What the fuck,” Lauren yelped as soon as Garrett disappeared behind the counter. “What was that for?"
"You’re so annoying."
"You didn’t need to kick me,” Lauren replied as she rubbed her shin.
“You deserved it.”
“What did I do?"
"You’re embarrassing,” Normani said before taking a sip of her sweet tea.
“Mani bear has a crush,” Lauren smirked, now knowing why Normani was getting annoyed.
“Maybe,” Normani dragged out.
“He’s not bad looking,” Lauren admitted as she glanced over at Garrett filling baskets with their food.
“Fall back.”
“I thought you said you didn’t like him?”
“I never said that. I said I may, possibly have a slight crush on him.”
“Okay,” Lauren laughed. “Well you better swoop him up before I do."
"You wouldn’t,” Normani challenged.
“Watch me,” Lauren smirked as Garrett walked back to the table with their food. Before Lauren had a chance to open her mouth, Normani kicked her other shin. Lauren uttered out a few curse words as Garrett placed the food down on the table.
“Uh, if you need anything else just holler.”
“Thanks,"  Normani smiled sweetly before Garrett vanished.
"That fucking hurt, Normani.”
“I thought you were going to say something embarrassing.”
“So you kicked me?!”
“I didn’t know what else to do,” Normani said as she pulled the basket containing a caesar chicken wrap towards her.
“You didn’t need to kick me. Now I have giant bruises on my shins."
"Have Mila kiss them,” Normani shrugged before taking a bite of her wrap.
Lauren rolled her eyes. “Camila and I aren’t on speaking terms right now."
"Yeah because you’re stubborn."
"I’m not stubborn,” Lauren defended.
“Are you really going to shut her out after what happened last night?”
“I didn’t shut her out,” Lauren said as she stared down at her food.
“She was a complete mess, Lauren. She knows you less than any of us, but she was still just as worried as us. She wants the absolute best for you. I know you don’t like letting people in after the whole Lucy thing, but Lucy never cared about you.”
“I’m not talking about this,” Lauren said as she fought back tears.
“Well I am. You should hear the endless rants Camila goes on about you because she cares so much about you, and I see how happy you get even though I know you’re afraid to let people in. You’re afraid of loving someone, but love is such an amazing feeling. It’s a feeling everyone deserves to experience.”
“You loved Lucy or you loved the thought of Lucy? The way you interact with Camila is completely different then how you interacted with Lucy. Last night was the first time I’ve seen you smile because you were happy."
"She’s different.”
“Don’t push her away, Laur."
"I already did last night. I doubt she wants to see me again after last night. She didn’t even show up today.”
“She did, but she didn’t want to upset you even more so she hid in Diane’s office. However, she asked me earlier how were you doing. She was actually concerned about you. When did Lucy ever do that?
"Never,” Lauren answered silently.
“Go make Camila your girl before I do,” Normani joked.
“Are you sure she wants to see me? I know I come with a lot of baggage that is hard for me to handle and I hate to bring someone else into it,” Lauren said worriedly.
“I’m positive. Go talk to her, or at least text her saying you’re okay.”
“Okay,” Lauren nodded. “I will."
One thing Lauren hated about Normani was the dark-skinned girl was always right. She was the most honest person Lauren had ever met which she was thankful for, but sometimes seeing the truth was hard to face.
Lauren liked Camila. There was no denying it. Everyone could tell the girls shared a spell connection that couldn’t go unnoticed. Anything that Lauren and Lucy had ended months before the accident took place, but that didn’t mean she didn’t care about her. Since moving back to Denver, it seemed like everyone she ever cared about was passing away. She couldn’t imagine what would happen if Camila were to passed away which made her afraid to let Camila in, but not letting her in was causing pain too. She was lost.
"So are you going to get your girl?” Normani asked as they stepped out of the shop and into the breezy September air.
“I don’t know,” Lauren admitted honestly.
“You mean to tell me we just had that conversation and you’re still over here saying ‘I don’t know?"
"I don’t know,” Lauren shrugged. “I’m not good at relationships. My longest one was with Lucy and we didn’t even make it pass the three month mark. What am I supposed to say or do?”
“Kiss her.”
“Kiss her?”
“Kiss her.”
“I can’t just kiss her.”
“Why not?”
“You just don’t kiss someone. I should at least take her out on a date or something first.”
“You’ve guys been on plenty of dates,” Normani said as they started down the sidewalk towards the school.
“No we haven’t.”
“You haven’t?”
“No,” Lauren said as she ran her hand through her dark hair. “I would’ve told you if we did.”
“What’s taking you so long?”
“I told you I don’t know what to do or say. I’m innocent when it comes to this type of stuff.”
“Aww,” Normani cooed as she poke Lauren’s cheek. “That’s so cute.”
“It’s not cute. It’s embarrassing.”
“Then I’ll help you.”
“You will?” Lauren asked skeptical. Usually it was Dinah she was afraid of. Now it’s the both of them she’s afraid of.
“I will,” Normani nodded. “I love Camila and I think you two would make an amazing couple.”
“Okay. What do I do then?”
Normani went over everything Lauren should do. Lauren was a bit skeptical and thought it was Normani’s way of embarrassing her, but Normani was always brining a guy home so it must work, right? It was a risk she was willing to take.
As soon as Normani and Lauren got back to their school, Lauren searched around the school to find the brown-eyed girl only to find out she had left to go home a few minutes before Lauren came back. She grabbed her belongings and stole the car keys from Dinah before dipping out of the school. Dinah didn’t even realize until Lauren was turning out of the parking lot and onto the main road.
Lauren made her first stop at a nearby florist. She studied each bouquet carefully until she found the perfect one for Camila. It was a mixture of red and yellow and pink roses all bundled together to make a neat colorful creation.
The next stop was at a gas station a mile away from Camila’s apartment. A part of the reason was because she needed gas if she wanted to complete every she had for Camila and the other part was so she could pick a few of the young girl’s favorite snacks.
The last stop was Camila’s apartment. She typed in the passcode Diane sent before walking inside the lobby with the bouquet of roses. Her stomach was flipping in every direction. She was afraid security would kick her out after noticing she wasn’t a resident and she was also afraid of Camila’s reaction to her being there. She couldn’t decided what was more terrifying.
She tapped her foot impatiently as she rode up the elevator to Camila’s floor. Each ding the elevator made as it went up, made Lauren more nervous. When the doors finally opened, Lauren stepped off and took a deep breathe. Everything in her screamed to run away, but her heart was pulling her towards Camila’s door.
Lauren lightly pounded her knuckles against Camila’s door, waiting for someone to answer, however, no one came to the door. She knocked a little harder, yet there was still no answer. As she was about to knock for the third time, the door swung open revealing a distraught Camila.
“Lauren?” She sniffled as she rubbed her puffy red eyes.
“These are for you,” Lauren smiled lightly as she handed the bouquet of roses over to Camila.
“Roses,” Camila stated as she looked as the bundle of colors. “My favorite."
"I knew you’d like them,” Lauren said as she watched Camila study them. She had heard Camila talk endlessly about the gold roses found on Lauren’s desk and how she wished she’d find someone special to give her roses.
“What are you doing here?” Camila questioned. “I thought you didn’t want to see me.”
“I need answers, Camila. I need the answers to questions I’ve had for weeks,” Lauren answered.
Before Camila could process what Lauren just said, Lauren cupped Camila’s sculpted face in her hands and brought their lips together. Lauren expected Camila to pull away, but Camila moved her lips along Lauren. Their lips danced in perfectly melody. Lauren felt her mind go numb as all she could think about was the soft sensation on her lips. They both slowly pulled away and stared deep into each other’s eyes as they tried to put together what just happened. It was safe to say all of Lauren’s questions were finally answered.
I probably rewrote this chapter a hundred times before finally completing it. I was going to wait a little bit longer for a camren kiss, but I thought now was a perfect time(;
As always, I hope you have a super, amazing, fantastic day/night!
Keep smiling,
Ashley

Of Cats and Thieves
A/N: Inspired by the Job Set on SIF, though throughout writing this, I found that I couldn’t fully explore this AU until the other four are released too OTL Hence, only a short blip here. I’ll most likely write more and finalize the nonexisting plot and ships when I know what other jobs the rest have XD Words: 2,130 Ship(?): Kanan x Mari
“Not this one either…”
Violet versus gold. The dark-haired woman could practically see her own reflection as she crouched and peered at the calico cat. Unafraid and merely curious, the cat reached out and lightly pawed at her nose. She laughed quietly, which seemed to encourage the critter because it boldly hopped onto her shoulder and began to play with her long ponytail.
“Hey, careful there,” she said half-heartedly and was met with a dismissive flick of tail. Feline nature indeed, doing as it pleased. Sighing, she studied the slip of paper in her hand for the umpteenth time.
Why was she looking for lost pet cats again?
The calico cat meowed and rubbed its head against her cheek.
“Yes, I know, it’s because I’m fond of your kind.” Resigned, she scratched at her new friend’s ear, earning a rumbling purr. One look at a kitty and she became putty. On the other hand, cats also returned her affections and would scent-mark her whenever possible. She could easily approach a random cat on the street and it would let her pet it.
One time, she returned to her office covered in cats, startling her colleague slash partner, Detective Watanabe You. Unfortunately for the blue-eyed woman, cats did not like her and fled in  hissing balls of fur.
Even then, You loved cats and often helped out in these cat-searching missions.
“I should’ve let her handle this case-”
The calico cat promptly knocked over her black cap.
“Now now, I’m at least the Chief Inspector, I deserve some respect?”
A nonchalant yawn was the only response from her feline companion..
“… right, Chief Inspector but looking for lost pet cats. Maa.”
Matsuura Kanan had many errands to run, but truthfully she did not mind this quest. It was nice to be able to entrust some tasks to dependable colleagues, giving her the chance to enjoy a fine afternoon like this. Rather than desk work, she preferred patrolling or simply strolling around town and interact with the folks.
She did tend to forget time and would continue working until she was satisfied with her progress. Her adopted sister Maru certainly wasn’t very happy when she came home in the middle of the night the other day. And to punish her for sleeping right on the tatami without setting up futon, the young calligrapher drew on her face with especially dark-colored ink.
Kanan didn’t know she had circles all over her face until she ran into Chika the next morning.
“Oh yeah, Chika, I should go get her. She’s better at recognizing cats anyway.”
Though popular with cats, Kanan couldn’t tell one cat from the other if they were the same breed. Her good friend Takami Chika was a hair stylist who also groomed pet dogs and cats if patrons requested so. Perhaps Chika had a box of mikan to spare - Kanan needed something to placate Maru since she’ll probably work late today again.
The Chief Inspector did not want to be whacked on the head with a giant ink brush.
“Hey you, get back here!”
The commotion caused her to narrow her eyes and school in her expression. Gently but firmly, she tugged the cat off of her shoulder and gave it an apologetic pat before standing up. The cook from a nearby restaurant was shouting about ‘eat-and-run’ at a bedraggled, unshaven man, who fled down the street while shop owners and passersby watched on with hesitation  She did not blame them for not wanting to get involved, for such intervention nowadays warranted more trouble than it was worth.
And thus, being responsible for law enforcement, she must work harder to preserve peace so civilians did not have to worry about having their quotidien life disturbed.
She kept her stance relaxed and waited for the man to near her. The moment he stepped within range, she tilted her sheathed saber and tripped him in a fluid motion. When he struggled to get up, she struck his calf as a warning but she didn’t expect him to curl up in pain. She was certain that she held back her strength.
Frowning, she observed the man’s malnourished state and held out a hand to stop the cook before the angry man could rip into the perpetrator.
“Chief, thank you for catching the little rat. He thought he could just sneak away without paying? Think again, scoundrel!”
She could only give the cook a strained smile before returning her attention back to the obviously scared man. She noticed his eyes were on her police cap and especially her saber. She carefully removed her hand from the hilt and was disheartened by how much he relaxed just from this simple gesture.
The abuse of police power was usual nowadays and her colleagues from other jurisdictions had no problem drawing their weapons, or even killing suspects, all in the name of law.
Kanan tried to keep her voice as even as possible as if not to scare the frightened man. “Is it true that you did not pay for the food you ate, mister?”
After all, innocent until proven guilty.
Under the cook’s vicious glare, the pitiful man nodded in shame. “I-I was really hungry, Chief. P-Please don’t throw me in jail.”
Jail, where the incarcerated often perished from inmate abuse or ‘mysterious’ circumstances, or at least that was how the general public viewed it. And sadly, that was mostly true.
“Yeah I won’t. In return-” she raised her voice before the cook could exclaim in outrage, “you have to help out at the restaurant, to pay back the food you ate. I’ve been to your place before, Cook-san. Weren’t you understaffed and needed someone to wash dishes?”
“Well yes, but..” Huffing, the cook folded his arms and his hard stare softened slightly, perhaps seeing how sorry the thief appeared. “Alright, fine, I suppose that’s an acceptable arrangement for the few pork buns that you ate. Heck, if you can last the whole day and do a decent job, you can have dinner too.”
The thief’s face lit up and thanked them both profusely before submissively following the cook to his ‘new job’. Kanan let out a quiet sigh of relief. The man wasn’t born evil and certainly deserved a second chance, for he was merely led astray by pangs of hunger.
She blinked and turned around when she heard someone clapping.
A beautiful woman seated under the shades of a nearby tea shop was smiling at her. Since this town was close to a port city, it was not unusual to see golden-haired foreigners mingling with the locals. However, this stranger appeared completely at ease with the graceful way she held herself, and her flowy dress of elaborate designs implied her wealth and perhaps powerful background.
The blonde, still smiling, beckoned at her with a curl of her elegant finger.
Kanan looked around and pointed at herself in bewilderment. The stranger giggled and nodded.
Hesitantly, she dug through her mind for her limited vocabulary and approached the foreigner. “Yes, miss? How can I help you?”
“Wow, your English is pretty good~” The blonde replied with perfect Japanese, though there was an accented lilt interlaced in her voice that tickled Kanan for some reason.
“Er, thank you? Your Japanese is good too. Have you been here long?” She scratched her cheek in slight embarrassment as the woman peered at her rather intensely.
“Oh, I’ve been around, though yes, I’ve only recently moved to this town. I’m Mary O’Hara… hmm, you can just call me Mari~ And your name is, dashing chief-san?”
“Kanan, Matsuura Kanan,” she dipped her cap in greeting, blinking in confusion yet again when Mari giggled. Did she say or do something funny?
As if sensing her unspoken question, Mari languidly waved her hand. “Eheh, pleased to finally know your name, Kanan. Love the way you handled that little situation just now. There are so many ways you could’ve handled it yet, unlike other police officers I’ve seen in other districts, you’ve kept your sword nicely sheathed.”
“Well, I didn’t see the point in excessive violence,” Kanan furrowed her brows. Perhaps it was time to bring up the matter again in the next conference, though she knew her concerns would be ignored like every other time.
“You just did what your heart tells you, ne? Very shiny of you. Helping out the elderly, caring for children and looking for lost cats, you certainly are a rare find.”
Kanan frowned. “Have you been following me, miss?” And without her noticing too?
“Who knows? If I say I’m your stalker, would you arrest me, hmm?” Mari sent her a flirtatious wink and her lips curved into a feline-esque smirk.
“Err, not really.” The chief inspector shuffled uncomfortably. It wasn’t the first time that she has conversed with ladies who were interested in her, though she never knew how to handle the situation. She has been told numerous times, by both Hanamaru and Chika, that she was ‘denser and worse than You’, whatever that meant. Sure, she was aware at some level that ladies were attracted to her, not that she understood why. Yet everything she did, even sincere rejections, only encouraged them more.
“May I ask why you’ve been… observing me, Miss?”
At this, Mari’s smirk eased to a faint smile. A calculating, almost challenging gleam appeared in those chartreuse eyes as opposed to the humor from earlier, and it put Kanan on guard.
“Like I said, you’re a fine specimen, that’s all, Chief. I’m just curious about you.”
“Thank you for your compliment?” Kanan decided to reply after moments of deliberation. There was not much she could say when she didn’t even know what the blonde was trying to do. The more she talked to Mari, the more exposed she felt as if the latter could see through her.
It wasn’t exactly unpleasant, but it felt disconcerting enough that a primal part of her urged her to flee, to be somewhere she could feel like herself again.
She dipped her cap awkwardly. “Well then, have a good day, Miss.”
“Hold on…”
Mari stood up and held out her hand as if to stop her, but stumbled over her long dress after a few steps. Instinctively, Kanan caught her in her arms and tensed as faint lemon perfume and other aroma permeated her senses.
Her hands lingered a little before she snapped to her senses and forcefully pulled away. “Are you alright?”
“Yes. Thank you for catching me.” Mari appeared just as surprised at this turn of events, though she quickly regained composure and laughed teasingly. “You have sturdy arms, Chief. It’s too bad this long coat of yours hides those wonderful muscles~”
Uncertain what to say, Kanan only nodded and tried not to squirm when the blonde lightly squeezed her arm.
The tantalizing scent of perfume brushed against her again and she felt something warm against her cheek briefly.
“Hope to see you again soon, Kanan. Ciao~”
The Chief Inspector stood there dumbly and watched as Mari sauntered down the street and out of sight. She touched her cheek in disbelief, still reeling from the bewitching aroma and electrifying sensation of soft lips against her skin.
She shook her head. What had gotten into her? She needed something to focus her mind, oh yes, the request. What did the lost cat look like again? She stuffed her hand into her pocket for the paper with its description, only to discover a small card with violet decor and star insignia.
When did she slip this into her pocket? Frowning, Kanan stared at the card that had ‘Ohara Apothecary’ and its address printed on the front. She flipped to the back and found an invitation written in elegant cursive.
‘Drop by anytime~ I have a feeling you’ll come see me soon.’
Kanan pursed her lips and placed the card into her pocket, unsettled and unwilling to ponder further. While she was intrigued by this mysterious foreigner, she was rather off-put by how easily Mari had gotten past her defenses.
She was never this careless, especially not around strangers no matter how friendly they seemed.
“Meow~”
The calico cat from earlier had wandered back to her and this time, it brought two more friends. It pawed at her leg, as if reprimanding her for ditching it before. Desperate for something to calm her nerves, Kanan crouched down to greet it and let it hop onto her shoulder again.
The other two sniffed at her hand for a few moments before allowing her to pat them. Grinning, Kanan caressed at their soft fur and indulged in this wonderful feeling. So soothing, so healing!
Her trance was interrupted by the calico cat’s agitated croon. It was batting at her ponytail and nudging against her head with a rumbling purr. The odd sensation had her reach for her cap, but her hand found nothing.
Her cap wasn’t there.
“Huh?”
She stared at the direction where the blonde cat-like woman had gone and was quite aware of the non-existent weight of the card in her pocket.
Mari was right after all. They will see each other again soon.

Should you get better car insurance coverage when purchasing a home?
I am currently house shopping and my boss mentioned increasing my car insurance coverage to cover the price of my house in case I get into an accident where the damages are higher than my coverage. So I called the owner of the broker company who told me that he would gladly backdate the policy upon the notion that AIG would accept it and they said that they would. Then the owner called me back stating that his broker that issued the policy already gave a recorded statement to the insurance company stating that he did not remember us requesting the added driver to the policy so he cant help us or he would lose his license as a broker by recanting on a recorded statement so he then told me to make the adjuster take the recorded statement off the record and they will do it but it is illegal to even ask them to do that. Our Policy has canceled several other times due to this broker not turning in the proper paper work to AIG. ""How to apply for Louisiana Children's Health Insurance Program, LACHIP?""
Are you looking for a low cost health insurance program for your children? Do you live in Louisiana? Well, I just recently found a program called LACHIP that offers affordable healthcare coverage for children. Step1 I'm a stay at home mom, and for awhile my child was getting sick all the time. Our insurance was good but, it didn't cover everything. Then suddenly, my boss told me that she was cutting my hours. I frantically started seeking healthcare insurance that was affordable but, would cover everything we needed. That's when I found a program called LACHIP. Basically, LACHIP is a no-cost or low-cost medicaid health insurance program for children. Step2 First thing, you need to find out if you qualify for the program. The program is basic on income. To find out the income guidelines, contact your medicaid office. They will also give you an application to fill out. To find out your medicaid office contact information, go to: http://www.dhh.state.la.us/offices/contacts.asp?ID=119 Step3 Finally, when you get the application in the mail, fill it out and return it back to the office. Now when I filled mine out, I did not have to put a stamp on the envelope because it was already pre-paid. Then within about a week, someone from the medicaid office will call you and tell you if you are approved or not. If you are approved, then you will receive a medicaid card in the mail for your child(ren) within 6 weeks. Once you receive it, you use the card anywhere medicaid is accepted. Also, don't forget to ask your medicaid representative to include a list of things that medicaid covers. Then come July my car was total written off. Is this typical for insurance for a 17 year old?!?
I just bought my first car Saturday. My dad went to the DMV to get it registered and insured. Then, he called our insurance company to get a quote for how much driver's insurance is for a 16 year old female. If you take driver's ed, watch a state farm video, and have a G.P.A above 3.0, comes to.... $88 A MONTH!!!! That's with driver's ed, and a G.P.A above 3.0! Now my parents are really upset, 'cuz that's thousands of extra dollars a year--not on gas, not on the vehicle itself...Just insurance! They're not sure I can get my license now b/c of it. This really frustrates me. I will be 17 in a couple months, and I really, really, really want to get my driver's license. I have a car, I'll buy the gas, but the insurance is astounding! So my question is, is $88 A MONTH typical for other companies/ or in other states (We're in AZ).""
""Insurance company does not want to pay for my car damages, what should I do?""
I let my mom borrow my car, which insurance is under my name, she crashes. She exchanged insurance info with the other driver. I called the other driver's insurance to make a claim to have them get my car fixed. As soon as I told the insurance rep what had happened, he hung up. I try calling them again only to have the rep say, we need to get the other driver's side of the story and hung up again. My car got really damaged, but the other driver's car only got scratches, I know it may not matter but nonetheless I would like to have them pay for my car damages. My insurance only has liability so I can't file a claim under my insurance. The only thing I have is a police report of them exchanging insurance info but no document stating in detail what happened and who is at fault, that's it. What should I do?""

How do I get affordable insurance after dui non-conviction?
State farm is canceling my auto insurance after a company called ChoicePoint inc. reported info. from the DMV about reinstatement of license, Chemical test modification and Chemical test revocation. Can I get affordable car insurance with a company if I currently hold a policy with them?
I have a pretty ba driving record from about a year ago. I recently just bought a motorcycle and got insurance through them for $306 a year which is awesone. But it would also be nice to have a truck considering rain a cold weather. Now I've priced insurance through many different company's for my 1996 mitsubishi mirage 2 door, and I was quoted at $219 a month with liability and that was the lowest. Now I want to buy a truck and add it to my current policy, will it be remarkably cheaper to do so, or how long till it will be cheaper, or should I say very affordable. I live in the state of louisiana if that information helps at all. Answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you""

Car insurance rate (red light ticket!)?
Sorry if this is too long, but i really need help! I just got a ticket for turning right on red w/o stopping in WA state. i googled and know that insurance companies don't often check driving record. unless when you make some change to your policy, make a claim or every 2 renewal cycles? my questions are: -How long does it take for my insurance company to notice this if i don't make any changes to my policy or make a claim within 3 yrs (this will stay on my record for 3 yrs right?)??? -Usually how long is ONE renewal cycle in car insurance? -If i tick the mitgation hearing option, and explain the infraction to the judge and he/she reduce my penalty, Does that mean the record will stay on me shorter? the penalty money will reduced? and hopeful insurance company will not increase my rate? -I am a student and I am cover under my dad's insurance, so if they increase my rate, does that mean the whole amount of premium increase or just my part? PS: if this help, my insurance company is American Family Insurance. I just switch to it 3 months ago.""
Have you ever added an additional driver to your car insurance?
Did it raise the cost of your premium? By how much? I realize this will differ for everyone. I'm only asking because I will be added on as a driver to my mother's car after I receive my license in a couple of weeks. I'm 21 (i realize this is late to be getting a license, there were some things that unabled me to throughout the years) but not a student. I realize what we will get charged (if at all) is not the same as what someone else did/did not get charged, just wondering what might come up.""

Why is my car insurance so high?
I can't seem to find decent coverage that doesn't break my bank. Here's my current policy that I'm paying 861/month for: Bodily injury/property liability: 12,500/person, 25,000/accident, 7,500/accident Comprehensive: 1,000 deductible Collision: 2,000 deductible NO other coverage. I drive a 2010 Jetta that I OWN, I'm a 23 year old male, I've never filed a claim/been in an accident, and I haven't gotten a ticket of any kind in 5 years. Does this make sense? Am I missing some secret to affordable insurance? I have a feeling it's because I didn't finish college and I have no credit, but still... Sigh. Any help is greatly appreciated.""

18 year old and car insurance...help please?
I've been saving up the past 3 years to buy myself a car. I've saved about 18K for a new car, so my price range is from about 18-24K for a car, new or used. Some cars that I'm interested in are: In Order: 1. 2004 BMW 530i 2. 2004 Infiniti G35 3. 2005 Mercedes C230 4. 2004 Acura TL or RSX 5. 2005 BMW 325i My problem isn't whether I can afford the car and the maintenance fees, its the insurance. I would be under my fathers insurance. He's 55, no accidents or tickets, been driving since 16. He would be the primary and I would be the secondary. I go to college, have a 3.8 GPA, work part-time, have been driving since 16, no accidents or tickets, and the car would be parked in a garage. I also wouldn't be driving much, just to and from school (less than 7500 miles a year). How much would basic insurance be? I hate getting online quotes because its time consuming and I hate getting spam emails and phone calls. I'm thinking of buying the car soon, so please help. THANKS!""

""How can forcing us to buy health insurance, be the same as mandatory car insurance?""
I don't own a car, so I don't pay car insurance. Nobody is forcing me to buy it. But under the Obama individual mandate, we will all have to buy insurance or get fined. This is based on the assumption that you will get sick and not be able to afford your own care, and so will choose to be a burden. Those are a lot of assumptions. Which is the best car insurance coverage for an affordable price?
Right now I am insured with Allstate. I am under an Allstate plan called the gold protection plan in which I will be eligible for a new car if there is an accident. I think I am paying a liitle too much for car insurance. I have a 2004 Honda civic and a 2006 Honda civic. Both cars has full coverage. Does a two year old car need full coverage. I am a safe driver and so far there have been no accidents. But two times some one came and hit my older car and both times the damage was covered under the other party's insurance. Is comprehensive coverage enough for me or is it a good idea to keep the full coverage. Any recommendation.
