so i’ve been thinking about it and on one hand, isen suggesting they leave john and run is a pretty sobering moment because he really is just clinging to the first real opportunity he has to protect his best friends who won’t stop getting into situations where he quite literally can’t but on the other hand it is also kinda like. (gently grabs isen by the shoulders) hey man. we saw valerie’s level. i think you’re gonna need that guy later

I'm gonna start this off by saying that this has been ping-ponging around my head like that old dvd screensaver, quicking around and getting more unhinged every time it hit a corner since April. And while this is a meta on the cemetery scene in Death and Taxes, I will be going back and forth in the whole show, so I don't know, buckle up, grab your delusional juice, and come with me if you feel like it.
First thing about that scene is that it tries to make you think about the equine therapy conversation in Dumb Luck.

They are in a location we have never seen before and probably will never see again, the outfits are similar, and even the circumstances of the conversation could be read as close to each other, considering Eddie wasn't doing well after almost dying, Buck is definitely not handling his death well. I made a way too detailed meta about the cinematography of buddie during Eddie's breakdown era (you can read it if you want more details) but the main thing about the dumb luck conversation is that Eddie is finally letting Buck in after continuously shutting him down when he tried to offer help and that's reflected on the way they filmed the scene, the way they are talking, moving, positioned in the frame. It's about Buck reminding Eddie that there's hope after all. Considering the moment Buck's in, with them alluding to that conversation, you would've expected for them to do a similar thing with Buck, right? That this scene going to give Buck the same type of peace the equine therapy talk gave Eddie.
But it doesn't. One thing that's kind of a pattern with Buck, Eddie, and Eddie reassuring Buck (if you could call 2 scenes a pattern) is that they have Buck looking up at Eddie (I also talked about this in more detail here if you're interested) but that's interesting because of Buck's height, he's the tallest person in the room, so he's not usually looking up at people, but something about Buck as character is that he has the tendency to sit in higher places, so he's always higher, and he even picked a place where he can sleep in a high spot.

But when he's getting reassurance from other people in his life, they are both usually sitting down, at the same eye level.

But when he goes to Eddie for reassurance, Eddie is standing up and Buck is sitting down, so Buck is literally looking up at Eddie when he goes to Eddie for advice. And Eddie is always focused on Buck, in Home and Away, Eddie is reasoning with him, and in Recovery Eddie is trying to give Buck what Buck is asking while not pushing his boundaries.

Why is that relevant here? Well, Buck spends the whole conversation in the cemetery trying to get Eddie to look at him and Eddie spends most of the conversation looking forward so he won't have to.

And that alone is very interesting because Eddie is always looking at Buck. I could legit put 100 screenshots here to prove it. So the fact that Eddie can't look at Buck here, means something. Because Buck wants Eddie to be on his side, he needs Eddie to tell him he's doing the right thing, but the way he's talking is making Eddie shut down.
Buck wants answers, right? He wants the easy way out. He died, he has feelings about it he doesn't want to deal with, so he's looking for whatever answers he can get so he won't have to. But the way he's talking sounds a lot like the way Eddie talks to him in Kids Today when he drops Christopher off with him before the tsunami. Very you're alive, get over it thing Eddie had going that ended with him literally destroying everything he had. So, like, we know that's not the way to go about near-death experiences, it doesn't end well because the pressure has to go somewhere and let's face it, Buck has never dealt with anything that happened to him ever. He can't just keep moving past the shit he's been through, at some point, that's gonna catch up to him.
But the thing about the actual content of the conversation is the way that Eddie tries to do the thing he usually does, reason with Buck, "been down that road, don't recommend it" or "or you don't know her the way he does" or "now am I allowed to ask how you are", because it's how they work, but Buck shuts him down with the "I feel like she sees me, like she really sees me for who I am" because that threw Eddie off balance in their relationship, in their friendship really, considering they way they showed us buddie from in a flash to mixed feelings, Eddie is trying his best to be someone Buck relies on, the way we've seen him rely on Buck through his trauma recovery. And one thing we see Eddie constantly do is back away so he won't get hurt once things get too intense. He puts space between him and whatever is bothering him, he ran to LA to escape his parents' judgment (and to be closer to Shannon but his parents played a part there), he kept Shannon at arm's length through most of the time she was back in his life before she died, he kept pushing Buck away after the lawsuit, he pushes everyone away really before his PTSD took him down. Dude retreats from the fight if he's not sure and Buck throws him off balance. Because up until this moment, Eddie thinks he's helping, but we see him realize he was wrong and shut down in real time.

He's still trying, but his thing now is agreeing with Buck. This gif has 11 seconds, black and white because I wanted the whole thing in one gif, but Buck is trying to get a reaction out of him, but Eddie already moved to a whatever you say buddy mode. AND EDDIE JUST WON'T LOOK AT BUCK.

So Buck wants to know if he's doing the right thing, Eddie is agreeing with him not because he agrees with him but because now he thinks that whatever he's doing is not helping so putting distance between them will be what's best because Buck is getting what he needs somewhere else so he needs to minimize the damage to himself.
And the distance thing is something that stays until the end of the season, because during the first half of 6B, they are together the whole time, mixed feelings being obviously the biggest example, but they made a point of highlighting the fact that they were very close outside the firehouse, just to stop. They were chilling at Buck's loft, they were out and about scheming the fire captain, Buck looked more comfortable at Eddie's than he did in his own place. But then we don't even see them together in the hospital after the bridge. Like, there's s p a c e now.

And I spent a really long time trying to figure out what was going on with this scene that made such an impression on me, and it's that Buck doesn't sound like someone who believes in what they're saying, he sounds like someone who's justifying themselves and hoping they are doing the right thing. And Eddie doesn't really let him get away with this line of thought, not usually, but he does now, so they leave that conversation with different impressions of how it went. Buck thinks he's right and Eddie is just backing the fuck off.
And a while back it downed on me what other scene this made me think of. And that's the fountain scene in merry ex-mas.

They are even shot in a similar way, the off-center wide angle, the close-up from a side angle where you can see the other one slightly blurry, the focus of the conversation angled toward the front of the frame, everything happening in an outside location we will never probably see again, the way they are not looking at each other. And the conversation is similar too, I mean, sure they are not talking about dying but it is a big decision in Eddie's life that sounds like Eddie is justifying himself and needs Buck to agree with him. And Buck is agreeing with him, and not talking about it even though we KNOW he has opinions because he kept trying to talk about it with Chimney because Buck doesn't think it's his place to have an opinion and offer it to Eddie. Both scenes sound like they are talking and understanding each other but what the scene is showing us is that they are not.
And something about the way they are pretty much never looking at each other is that it is a way to show they are not seeing eye to eye in a situation, the most extreme example I can think of it is when Eddie drags Buck out of bed in Kids Today because they are pretty much never looking at each other there.

But to have them face the same direction is a really easy way to make you feel like something is wrong, especially if they are not moving, because if they are standing in the same spot for 3 minutes they could've turned to face each other, but they don't, because the message here is that they are not really seeing each other. And that in a conversation where Buck is talking about being seen by someone else????? Like, come on, that's so on purpose.
I also wanna add a take that's not mine, all credit to @anxieteandbiscuits for putting this particular thought in my head with this post, that's basically about how the "dating someone you rescued? that never ends well" line might also be another justification for why Eddie chooses to stay quiet. Because one thing is true, and that is that buddie do be rescuing each other. And it really sounds like something Eddie would do, to justify to himself not doing something that could make him lose Buck any way he could, because romantic relationships are very unstable, no matter how much you want it to work, how much you love each other, there's a very real level of unpredictability in a romantic relationship that doesn't exist in their friendship. So to imagine him going "the friendship is good, the friendship is what I need, I won't do anything to change that because I don't have to and it probably wouldn't end well with our track record anyway" makes a lot of sense too.

A/N: reposting by acts! [see full version here]. wanted to see if this format works better (and yes i will squeeze everything in this one right here cause its amazing and i 100% worked my ass off on it)

To be in the same class group than him was slightly tolerable.
Is what you’d like to say if you were in a good mood. But it wasn’t the case.
You were mad. As fuck.
“I just need you to give it a chance,” Miss Fernández stated once more, and you had to hold back to not roll your eyes at her.
“But Miss. I know that this subject is difficult and that he could, uh, help me out with the project,” you muttered reluctantly, because on normal circumstances, you wouldn’t go as far as to let Kim Seungmin help you with chemistry. Not ever.
You weren’t in need of help that desperatly.
And that was a fact, not a matter of ifs, buts, or maybes. That was an absolute. Something that lovely-yet-not-so-much teacher Lucía Fernández, spanish accent and all, was not getting.
“Listen. We both know that your grade is the best I can offer considering your behaviour in my class, despite of your average knowledge of the subject. And in this case, I am offering to set that aside if you work on these following assignments with your classmate Seungmin.”
Her harsh tone was also an absolute, and that made you clench your jaw. You blamed Lucas for her attitude towards you —after all, that one accident with a Bunsen Burner had been mostly his fault—, but you breathed in, trying to offer your most pity-inducing grin.
Judging by her glare, it wasn’t working.
“Miss, I—”
“I’m sorry.” She didn’t look like she was. “It’s my last word. And I think that after coming three days to my office on each of your free periods, this is getting a bit tiring.” She sighed, adjusting her glasses by a soft push of her finger.
Nope. She definetely wasn’t sorry.
Witholding a groan you left her office, and huffed as the door closed behind you, swiftly heading to meet your group of friends when they got out of their Biology lesson in other building within the school grounds.
It was a chilly evening, maybe not too much from what one could expect for the first week of February, still one that made you hide your face in your scarf and you hands in your jacket pockets.
You settled your headphones where they belonged, humming to the music to hold back the need to rant and rave against your chemistry teacher, when your phone dinged.

You gingerly laughed, and started typing out your answer, when, out of nowhere, you bumped against someone, making all of the books that they were carrying fall down of their grasp.
You pursed your lips, then pressed them in a thin line. Staring at their— his back, you saw that his backpack was almost empty. Why the fuck would he carry all of his books on his hands then?
The guy had quickly bent down to get his books back, and you followed too, taking your headphones off and quickly trying to prevent the papers from getting wet because of the floor, that was damp from the rain before, when your hands softly brushed against each other, still, you forced yourself to ignore it.
“I’m so…” the word dissapeared in your mouth.
“It’s ok, don’t… oh.” He blinked, his face showing nothing. For fuck’s sake.
Why did it always have to be him?
He swiftly took all of the things from you, as if your touch could be worse than the wet floor. You frowned, feeling a cold shiver trail up your spine, and you crossed your arms in front of you, struggling to seek some warmth.
“Watch it, little one.” He mocked with a light smirk. “I might accidentally step on you one day.”
You looked at him through your eyelashes. What. An. Idiot. You passed a hand through your hair, chuckling dryly.
“I-,” you sighed, shaking your head sideways. “Nah, you know what? I don’t have time for this crap.” You smiled at him widely, full of sarcasm.
But just when you were about to leave, you felt a tug at your sleeve, the fabric of your shirt not thick enough to hide the warmth of Seungmin’s grasp on your forearm. You frowned, confused at the lack of any uncomfortable feelings because of it. There was none, but rather a need to cover yourself with it and wear it like a jacket.
“Did you fix it?”
You blinked, trying to get your brain to focus on his words.
“Huh?”
He rolled his eyes, but his hand didn’t move an inch. “You said you were going to talk to Miss Fernández so we wouldn’t be partners, which is, well, so mature, congratulations,” he tsked, but then continued. “But did it work?”
You licked your lips and swallowed, your throat feeling dry. What was going on? You needed to focus.
In a harsh motion, you moved your arm away from his grasp. You forced yourself to ignore how your skin missed it.
“I… no. She settled. You- I mean… we…” the word felt awkward when it rolled off your tongue.
We? There was no such thing in between Seungmin and you. No we, no us, no nothing. And it was like that for a reason. One that you had almost forgotten with how softly his slender and warm hand had been holding your forearm. Ugh.
As you struggled to say those infamous words, your phone dinged again, and you mumbled a short “oh, wait,” and unlocked it.

Seungmin stared at your phone, shoving his hands on his pockets when he saw you smile at the bright screen. He bit his lower lip. He hadn't taken all of his stuff out of his backpack just for this.
“So,” he licked his lips, and it almost shocked you the sudden roughness on his tone and demeanour. “Chemistry is easy. We can meet up on Friday in the public library. An hour or two should be enough, even for someone with a fun-sized brain like yours.” He chuckled meanly, the motherfucker.
Ever since that stupid text from him, you had made it your mission to surpass him, or at least reach his level, and to be honest, you were even succeding in some cases, like philosophy, art history, spanish, technical drawing and business studies. But Chemistry?
Chemistry would always kick you in the ass.
Before you were able to come up with a comeback for his stupid snicker, the bell rang, and you felt an arm laying its weight on your shoulders.
“Smallable!” Lucas laughed, then realized that you were talking to a certain someone and ful Ty ly gasped. “Oh my god. Are you two finally dating and I interrupted— AH!” He was interrupted by your elbow hitting his side. Noa and Atenea chuckled behind him.
“No. Seungmin was just leaving.” You huffed with a frown, but then you smiled, almost excessively, like a small maniac. “Right?”
But before he was able to reply or mock you, Atenea spoke, ruining your chances of kicking him away.
“But we all have English now,” she said, and if it had been someone else, like Lucas, you would’ve stepped on his shoe or something. “We’re going to the same place, we can go together.”
Seungmin felt you stare intensively at him. He smiled at Atenea, finding that he enjoyed having you look at him, reason why he loved annoying the shit out of you.
“Sure!” He smiled politely, almost sheepishly, and you bit your lip to hold back the need to scoff at his 'obviously fake' kindness.
Because except for you, the rest of your class —heck, probably the rest of the school— were smitten with Kim Seungmin.
Top of the class, funny, kind, and cutely introverted Kim Seungmin was just a dorky student who tried to get along with everyone.
But that was wrong. And you may not have any proof aside from his mean attitude towards you and only you, but you knew it.
Seungmin had to be more than just a pretty boy with high grades, and it was only with you that he proved you right.
You stayed next to Lucas, hoping that Seungmin would at least stay with your friends and ignore you.
But to your horror, he smiled at you, a pink dust on his cheeks. “If you don’t mind?”
Oh, son of a bitch.
“No… it’s whatever.” You huffed.
Because against his dorky self, to the rest of your class —heck, to the rest of the school— you were the quote on quote “bad student.”
Troublesome, mean, class clown? Check. You laughed at teachers in class with Lucas far more than what could be ignored, the dresscode had always been more of a guide in what to wear, unlike what most students usually followed, and you may have been expelled a bunch of times.
Even if you were somewhat kind to the people in school, and even if they all knew your rivalry with Seungmin, God forbid you were mean to him.
You wouldn’t see the end of it.
And he knew it.
Bitch.
So there you were, walking to English class with your friends plus innocent Seungmin —who no one had called, not even the ghostbusters—, who was snickering and giggling with Atenea about who-gives-a-shit. Something class-related. You couldn’t be bothered to listen.
Lucas chuckled next to you.
“Careful, Spongebob.” He laughed. “Some could say you seem jealous.”
…WHAT?!
“Of… of Kim Seungmin?” You snorted. “Are you on drugs?”
He ruffled your hair. “Sure, sure, keep lying to yourself, shortie.”
Finally, you arrived to class, but before you stepped inside, Seungmin stopped you, whispering in your ear.
“Yeah, shortie.” He teased, his lips almost grazing the shell of your ear. “Don’t be too jealous. We wouldn’t want everyone to know you love me.”
His whisper would’ve been almost enticing if it weren’t for the fact that it was Kim Seungmin the man in question, and he snickered, pushing his glasses back.
But then someone cleared his throat behind you two.
“Care to sit down? I don’t have all day.” Mister Holmes grunted, carrying a monster drink and a coffe at the same time.
That mas was slightly terryifing.
You squinted at Seungmin and then walked to your place at the back of the class, hoping that your cheeks felt warm because of how the teacher had startled you and definetely not your classmate’s honey-like voice.
“Pssst. Heeey,” Noa smiled teasingly, whispering with a smirk. “Pssst. You’re blushing…!”
“Shut up!” You frowned at her, but you were unable to hold back a smile. But it was because of your friend Noa. Not Kim Seungmin.
Mr Holmes cleared his throat, and finished off his monster, throwing it to the bin.
“So. I’ve been hearing from some students in the hallways that you’re all excited for saint valentines’ day.” He stated in a strong voice, one that filled the class with little to no effort. “And sadly so, I was thinking of putting an exam that Wednesday…” he faked a sigh, and you had to hold back a laugh, contrary to the frowns and groans that appeared in your classmates faces. Pfft, what a character. “Unless… you guys want to do something in true valentines fashion.”
Mr Holmes crossed his arms, laying back on his chair, his stare cold and face lacking any kind of emotions.
“Say… any ideas, Mr… Kim?”
Seungmin sat up straight at his name being mentioned, and you rolled your eyes, holding back a mocking smirk.
“I ugh… I wouldn’t want to bother my classmates with a lot of work, sir… but maybe… maybe a writing assingment related to the topic would be… enough?” Seungmin stated, his tone soft and shy, and there was even a blush that trailed up from his neck, but he stayed staight and firm as he spoke.
“A valentine-themed task.” Mr Holmes enunciated as he pondered. “It’s a… decent idea. Any complaints?”
You felt some of your classmates’ eyes on you, and you sighed, crossing your arms in front of you, remaining silent. As long as it wasn’t an exam, you’d accept whatever.
“With that settled, I’ll upload the task online this afternoon, but it’ll have to be written by hand. Be sure to hand in a picture of your assignment on time, or your final grade will be affected.” The teacher turned on his laptop, and started taking assistance.

Time had passed dreadfully slowly, until the bell rang and Mr Holmes dissmissed all of you so everyone could leave for the day.
“A valentine-themed task.” You huffed in annoyance as you stuffed your locker with books you weren’t going to take home.
“I thought it was original.” A voice snickered lowly behind you, and you slapped your locker close, smiling at him.
“Well, Henry. It’s no surprise your taste sucks.”
You chuckled when he rolled his eyes.
“I was waiting for your reply,” he mentioned with a soft tone.
You closed your locker, and you two started walking together. “Oh, sorry, I totally forgot,” you apologized with a smile, but he brushed it off. “Yeah, I was with Lucifer earlier. She’s making me work with Seungmin for this term’s assignments.”
Henry frowned. “And we hate that guy… right…” you chuckled.
“Exactly. We don’t like him.”
“So then, don’t do it. You were going to meet him to study, right?” You nodded, smirking slightly at him.
“We agreeded to meet on Friday to start, in the library.” You added, watching his smirk widen. “What are you thinking?”
He stopped walking, smiling at you. “There’s this club that opened recently. Been wanting to go have a look. Apparently, it’s like exclusive and shit. And it’s Friday.” His light-coloured eyes shined as he looked at you. “Meet me there?”
You grinned cheekily.
“Sure. Can’t wait.”

You hadn’t noticed Seungmin on the school bus until this year.
Because he had made himself noticeable, sitting at the back of the bus, a couple seats away from you, but oh, dorky Seungmin was always friend of everyone, sheepishly starting conversation with any kinds of people in the bus, no matter the year they were in.
Before his text, you had even thought he was cute as he gingerly chatted with a group of kids who were probably starting high school.
“Is it too difficult?” A little girl asked.
And it surprised you how he turned to her and smiled, almost tugging at your heart strings, eyes like crescent moons.
“It’s only difficult if you stop trying. And we don’t give up, right?” He stated cheerfuly, and all the kids shined at his sheepish and bashful brightness, high-fiving the girl that talked to him.
You forced yourself to shove those memories to the back of your mind. That Seungmin wasn’t real. And you didn’t like him. The real him. Right?
“Oi, Kim Seungmin.” You called, as it was only you two left on the bus.
He was surprised at your call, but only side-eyed at you, lazily raising his brows, signalling that he was listening. You frowned.
See? You thought to yourself. He’s mean. He isn’t sweet, nor cute. Focus.
“What kind of lame ass idea was that?” You huffed with a mean smile. “A valentine-themed assignment.” You snorted.
His bus stop was close, so he ignored you as he picked up his coat and backpack, but you kept on talking. “You know? Hallmark office called, they want their boring clichés back,” you mocked, laughing.
Backpack on and coat hanging on his arm, he stared at you, and waited for a red light to walk to your seat.
He settled next to you, still staring at you as you chimed mean remarks about his originality and such and such.
“Anything else to mumble? I couldn’t hear you from down there.” He snorted meanly, and you were too focused on annoying him that you didn’t notice his stare at your lips as he licked his own.
You rolled your eyes. “You’re such a lame guy. He gave you the chance to choose, and you chose that piece of—?!”
His lips tasted as sweet as his voice that day with those little kids.
You felt his hand slowly creep up and cradle your face, his eyes closed as he kissed you, and slowly, your eyes closed too.
It was sweet. So sweet. But what was it? It was a flavour that you knew. Its sweetness was so familiar, but you couldn’t seem to figure out what was it.
You kissed him back, and he let out a surprised whine as you sighed, your hands, which had been frozen on his shoulders, waiting for your order to push him away, slowly followed up and remained on his face, your thumbs almost stroking his cheeks.
You wanted needed to know what he tasted like.
But it was when your hands went into his hair that he sighed too, melting under your touch, that your brain clicked.
what were you doing?
WHAT WERE YOU DOING?!
You pushed him away, and your breath hitched.
He didn’t look like fake Seungmin.
In front of you was not the innocent boy who had straight A’s and was shy enough to not be able to say no to a lot of things, who sheepishly spoke up in class, or who treated everyone with a bashful kindness that was so endearing.
This Seungmin was different. His glasses had a bit of a fog in them, his hair was all messed up, and his lips were plush, pink from your tinted gloss and slightly swollen from your kiss.
This Seungmin was a wreck, all flustered and kissable, and he looked like a mess.
But it felt real.
And for a second, you wanted to kiss him again, yearning to figure what that kiss tasted like, the word for it almost in the tip of your tongue.
He panted, struggling to catch his breath.
“Finally,” he huffed with a smile, but his dark eyes didn’t match the mocking in his tone. A small part of your mind thought that they looked prettier than any light eyes you had ever seen. “So you were able to shut up, after all.” He gulped, still panting.
He moved away from you slowly, as you remained there, frozen, like a piece of art in front of him, cheeks blushed, lips flushed and parted as your eyes stared at him, an emotion much different from this evening.
He found himself enjoying this one even more.
“Eh… T-this is my bus stop.” He muttered when the bus stopped. Maybe it wasn’t, but he didn’t care. He felt like he would have the energy to run home if needed. “I-I’ll… see you tomorrow.”
You blinked as he stood up and walked away.

 ༻❁༺ Chaos!Vincent is totally bae.
He provides so much material for the best kinks~! And I really love that side of him because of how it adheres to FF7's symbolism with monsters. You can control the beast inside of you or let it take over. I love how Vincent perseveres with an unbreakable resilience. To me, he fills the same role of being a foil to Sephiroth, just like Cloud. Even though his circumstances and past caused him immense pain and grief, he does his best to keep his heart in check and never let out his anger upon the world. Unlike Seph, who couldn't take the anguish anymore with no bonds, and Cloud, who survived his mental breaks from the bonds he did have... I wouldn't condone Vincent taking his anguish out on the world, but I would understand why he would want to!
And from what I remembered about DoC, Vincent had Chaos implanted in him after Hojo more or less killed him, right? I think I also remembered Vincent was at the helm mostly, until Chaos decides to take over at the worst times. It's tragic, that no matter what, Chaos will always be intertwined with Vincent's life, an unfortunate reminder of his past. Now, I think Lucrecia did a good thing by giving Vincent protomateria, maybe she could've atoned for her other sins in the process too. The protomateria is what kept him alive and let him control Chaos until he lost it so I gotta give credit when it's due. We wouldn't have our emo bae without her. Unfortunately, she's only made things… More complicated for him when it came to other shit she's done and that totally doesn't include experimenting on her unborn child, nope.
 ༻❁༺Vincent is a total sweetie to his darling.
I 100% agree. For the confinement thing, I agree it would be done to protect his darling from danger as a last resort, but also really think about how he lost Lucrecia. He would be so scared to go through that same heartbreak, he probably won't even let himself think about it. It's just too much for him to bear. Now, I'd imagine a yandere Vincent would be zealous about that because not only he doesn't want his darling to go down the same path as her, he isn't risking any chance to let them leave him.
I think Normal Vincent would feel so terrible after sex when his Chaos side go wild on the darling. Bonus points to the tragedy aspect where the darling struggles with the turmoil that Chaos Vincent causes them, yet they still choose to love Vincent and stay devoted to him. I'd expect the Darling to try to brush over what happened to not worry him, but Vincent will pick up on their cues and will confront them about it.
Then Vincent would totally consider to CONFINE himself again, but his darling isn't having any of it and tries to talk him out of it. To get him to work with them on the issue, they would need to craft some pretty convincing arguments.
But just imagine the oncoming fluff, where they finally come to an compromise. The darling will embrace him tenderly, promising to stay truthful to him, and he'll vow to retain control of Chaos for their wellbeing... ❤️
 ༻❁༺I'd imagine Chaos would greatly influence a yandere Vincent.
He probably wouldn't feel as bad as normal Vincent would after a rough sex session with the darling. He would try to convince them (and himself) that it feels so good and how it deepens their connection. And Vincent's desire to protect his darling from others would be through the ROOF. Won't even let his darling ask or wonder about other people out loud. Concentrate on him, he will always be there for you, unlike the others who come and go.
But I can't see yandere Vincent being (deliberately) cruel to his darling. He still has goodness within him. He would try to reason himself and to his Darling, (maybe with Chaos too in his deluded mind) that he was doing the right thing in protecting them. He would acknowledge how it's not pleasant, but he has to do it, anyway. I think this would lead to him developing something like a savior complex over his darling.
 ༻❁༺ Ending with another ramble
I'm a bit sad that DoC isn't gonna be getting a remake, and getting regulated to some chapters in a mobile game. It's such an important game to both Vincent AND Sephiroth and the rest of the FF7 franchise. They could've just remade it in the same vein as 7R and take creative liberties like they also did for that game's writing. I want Vincent Valentine to be reintroduced to new generations of FF7 fans as a lovable, edgy emo. I'm worried that the remake trilogy may not give him the prominence that he deserves...

Repeat anon from before talking about bodily superiority and piss <3 I can't believe you picked up SO spot on. I've been reading Kropotkin's Mutual Aid for a couple years, revisited it the other day, and I owe that exact read of Succession to the dude. What you said about the show presenting a sharp analysis of the characters' ethical motivations tracks with me too. I did get ahead of myself tho, 100%. I get your point now, Succession really has refrained from telling a clear cohesive politic to imagine different worlds, like anarchism or communism. Came to my next conclusion more after chewing on your reply: its core philosophy runs incompatible to liberation. This has been stuck in my head since I heard it, Jesse Armstrong in Controlling the Narrative for the S3 finale goes, "People's essential selves don't change. In a way that's what makes drama and choices interesting." I do witness that bleed throughout the show. I love that the writers put capitalism and fascism under a microscope through the characters' intimate, erotic relationships with each other. But the thing is, they tell us stories over and over of their failures to change. Like, if Succession's a tragedy about characters stuck in unbreakable cycles of failure, then is it also a tragedy that considers capitalism and possibly all forms of domination unbreakable cycles, too? If so, not a cute vibe! Genuine Q that lingers since day 1, that I don't think the show answers... yet. Unless Waystar crashes at the end with no reiteration in sight, I wouldn't be surprised if the show sticks that landing more firm for the big finale. At best I could read a core story of Succession being that the characters' circumstances (nuclear family, corporation, capitalism) keep setting them up for tragedy precisely because of their more basic senses of cooperation, and the show's input ends there. And I'd love that, honestly. But I have a feeling the show will bring us to a more hopeless place, I only don't know where yet.
ok i knew it.... yeah kropotkin had such a major influence on basically all left-leaning understandings of evolutionary theory. i mean prior to him the options were basically bourgeois darwinian malthusianism or some strain of lamarckism, which latter was 1) increasingly hereditarian anyway, 2) not emphatically structured around 'natural selection', and 3) fundamentally drawing from sensationalist psychology, which meant moral sense tended to be presented as a result of habituation rather than as a rational social interest. so you can see why kropotkin was such a game-changer for anyone invested in defending any version of evolution-by-natural-selection as a non-teleological, non-theistic, materialist view of nature---but without the addition of british capitalism lol.
anyway, to answer your actual question: yeah, this is a huge tension in the show imo, and it follows from it being a huge tension in marx. in interviews jesse has quoted the marx line right out of '18th brumaire' about circumstances constraining men, and talked about how he doesn't think people fundamentally change. there are obvious reasons why, in that particular text, marx was especially pessimistic about the possibility for people to defy their circumstances lol---1849 was his case study in history 'repeating itself' because of (what he saw as) essentially the same class tensions as in 1799 rearing their heads again. but at the same time, marx's entire political project was predicated on the notion that true revolution is not just possible but expected, as an outcome of the historical development of the productive forces in conjunction with increasing labour estrangement and alienation.
frankly i don't think the show will end with waystar destructing or anyone meaningfully changing their social, political, or economic positions. and this would be fine, IF the read is, like you said, that the continued imposition of structures of capitalist production constrains the characters to acting in this selfish, dominance-seeking, antisocial way. like, i'm fine with the notion that the entire show is a tragedy and always has been, and that the characters are incapable of change as long as their circumstances remain the same. but i agree with you that there's a risk of implying (or outright stating, lol) that people are simply and intrinsically incapable of meaningful change for reasons predating capitalism and grounded in some kind of bio-psychological discourse. i would hate this ending and this moral lol and i have been hoping for 3 and a half seasons now that the writers' room is too smart to take us there. we really will have to see how these last few episodes play out.
i'd add that i think this sense of hopelessness and helplessness can add to the show's psychological writing, for example in the cynicism and nihilism of roman. roman essentially sees capitalism as an alien force he can't control or counter in any meaningful way, so why bother? which is certainly true to how many people (even literal billionaires) feel in the face of such a complex and entangled system. and it's not like i expect the show to end with some kind of raising of revolutionary consciousness, but i also don't want it to end with a total denial of the possibility of human cooperation and mutual aid as governing behavioural principles in different circumstances. i don't believe that as a species we're doomed to the way logan roy capitalism encourages us to act, and it'll really annoy me if that's where the show lands after all this time lol.
that said, i do think no one on this show is escaping their circumstances in any material way. i don't think any of them actually want out (certainly not the kids, tom, greg, or the old guard) and i do believe that the broad outlines of the ending have been pretty clear since day one. whether or not they keep waystar they will continue to operate in logan's world because his empire was always just one articulation of this broader capitalist discourse on domination and 'survival of the fittest'. even if a character on this show tried to cash out and dip they'd still be caught in this global financial web, and none of them are inclined to do that anyway because [class interests and family business]. which is i guess to say that i don't think we will see any of these characters change on a deeper level, but i think it's possible for the show to end that way and still frame it in a way that allows for alternate readings of human behaviour and sociability IF placed in different material circumstances. we'll see whether jesse and the writers have the subtlety to stick that landing, though. ultimately yes, the show is a character study and not a political polemic, but i will be really very irritated if it turns out to be a character study premised on a fundamentally reactionary, essentialist understanding of 'human nature' and social behaviour lol.

VERY UNHINGED EPISODE BUT REALLY FUN AND CUTE?? everything between bob and fischoeder was so. soo. yknow. and the subplot was funny and cute too :) very sweet little episode i always love when they go off on adventures like w/ teddy in sea me now. and of course their (many many) near death experiences together thats truly what its all about baby!!! really enjoyed this episode it was exactly the right amount of unhinged and funny

this is the depressing ask. beware. 😂 
first I want to thank the writers for so helpful reminding us of 305 with the line about naked suspects. clearly, morgane wasn’t there to witness adam’s frightful interrogation because she’d have eviscerated him then and there (that’s what I like to think, at least). 
bref. the ending. are we really doing this? I feel like this conversation’s been had a thousand times before yet the show doesn’t seem to have heard any of it. or doesn’t care. (I’ll let you list off the reasons why it’s an awful twist, if you feel up to it, because I’m frankly too tired for that) 
I hate the way they showed a sonogram as if to hammer home she’s carrying a child, not a fetus, when it's the other way round. I hate the mamma mia montage, as if figuring out whose genes are involved is the priority. I hate the 306 retcon, get this shit away from me, both their drinks were spiked. I hate that we’re supposed to believe none of these grown adults (the ones who weren’t drugged, at least) considered protection. especially morgane--she’s had DREAMS about this, ffs, there’s no way that wouldn’t cross her mind. I hate the ramifications of every single way this could go down (too long to expound but you get me). I hate that there’s even a shred of doubt about how this will go down. I hate that they served us some watered-down so-called feminist juice for a whole season and still decided to use morgane’s body as an open ground for drama. 
given the way they’ve addressed the question in the ep, I’m very pessimistic about s4. Idk about you but my only solace is knowing it’s out of our hands, anyway, so I don’t have to waste my energy trying to change anybody’s mind.

Now for the ending.
I think there are two main points to distinguish here because obviously, my personal distaste for pregnancy and baby storylines makes the idea of Morgane bearing a fourth child everything I don't want to see. BUT, had the circumstances been wildly different, I could have come to terms with it and accepted it, as in "Yeah I don't like this turn of events but I can get over it because it makes sense narratively and serves an interesting purpose". What actually makes this finale awful are the circumstances of this pregnancy, and now we're getting to the essay-ish part of this post where I'll try to explain
Why HPI finale is lazy, infuriating, and profoundly anti-feminist
Just like you point out, this mamma mia scenario was already explored in… well… mamma mia, plus countless other stories, zero originality here, I expected better from HPI tbh. And I read just yesterday an interview with the producer saying "Season 4 be like, we're looking for a baby daddy instead of a murderer lolilol", yea guess what, I DON'T CARE. For a while after watching the episode, I dared to hope that the montage in the end was purposefully misleading, that soon Morgane would come to her senses and remember that she did use protection with at least Timothée and David, because I 100% agree with you, it's ridiculous to make us believe that none of these people ever had a thought about contraception. Timothée even said "We're not trying yet", which means he kinda knows how not to try, no? And also I can accept the idea that Morgane isn't on any kind of birth control because it happens (some women react badly to pills and IUDs, etc), but she was with Ludo for half a season so they must have used condoms, she has to know and think about it (and like you said, she's DREAMED of it, and explicitly said that SHE DIDN'T WANT A FOURTH KID - I'll get to that later because it makes me fume). Besides, she's had three kids already, she knows how this all works. So yeah, it's lazy and implausible.
What I find particularly infuriating in this 3-baby-daddies plotline is also the deeply misogynistic trope of seeing a female character unable to enjoy an unapologetic sex life with multiple partners without getting punished by the script with an unwanted pregnancy. This is the literal definition of slut-shaming by the way. I was going to say that I didn't see where you found feminist vibes in the show, but then I remembered how much I loved the way Morgane expresses her feminity, her desire, and her sexuality, and…. yea, this is exactly the point I'm trying to make (also I loved seeing childfree, 40+ characters who were thriving but that's another discussion I guess). Seeing that we're still there in 2023 legitimately makes me sick.
Speaking of misogynistic tropes… I guess the ONE detail that really makes me want to throw spears at the writers is the sixteen weeks' mention. By purposefully making her too far in her pregnancy for abortion, they robbed her of having a choice. I mean, they could have got her two months pregnant, and then for some bad (imo) reasons she'd have decided to keep the baby, it would have made no difference for what's coming next. I wouldn't have loved it, sure, but it would have been fine by me because at least it'd have been her decision. Here she's just subjected to the plot, and like you said, her body is used as a narrative tool, and it feels like a slap in the face. Not to mention that even here they fucked up the timeline, because she fucked Timothée, David, and Adam in the span of like 4 days, right? Literally the day after the LSD adventures she and Adam decide to wait for three months, and the montage insists on how on the schedule they are. And I'd say that 307-308 happen within a week maximum because Redbone's not one to wait three weeks for his money lol. So 3 months is 12, 13 weeks at most, which means that in the end, Morgane is 14 weeks pregnant AT BEST (which makes her still eligible for abortion, mhhhh, see where I'm going with this? 🤔), and not 16. The only valid explanation would be that it's Timothée's baby and that she was already pregnant when she had her other encounters, but since the show seems to go in another direction, then it means that they purposefully fucked up the numbers so that she CANNOT consider abortion, which is the most dehumanizing, disempowering thing you can do to a female character.
They're literally forcing a pregnancy on her, and I want to throw up every time I think about it.
Speaking of which. Morgnane's already had three kids. Also, she told us in season 2 about her first-trimester symptoms. And she's supposed to be smart, hell that's the WHOLE point of the show. So there's no way she wouldn't have noticed that she was pregnant again, unless she denied her pregnancy (which would explain her total absence of symptoms, incredulity at the hospital, and possibly the fact that her brain erased her sexytimes with Adam). Now pregnancy denial is one of my greatest fears in life, so I can hear that this was particularly triggering for me specifically, but still, this is an incredibly traumatic experience to throw at her, and a source of huge emotional distress. SHE STATED SHE DIDN'T WANT A FOURTH KID FOR FUCK'S SAFE AND YOU ARE FORCING HER TO GET ONE WHEN SHE'S AT HER LOWEST, AND YOU'RE EXPECTING US TO FIND THIS FUNNY??????? I mean just go sell potatoes and stop writing shows because this is an insult to the art of writing.

Okay, I'll just close the 16-week essay by saying that I entirely blame Audrey Fleurot for this, and this is what I base my theory on:

I mean, cool bro if it worked for you (except it didn't, do you want to talk again about your post-partum? Is that what you're planning for Morgane?) and I get that acting can be a therapy in some way, but this is getting way too close to the target, just get the fuck out of the writing room if that's what you're going to come up with, PLEASE.
I'm not sure where you see a 306 retcon though, for me it's pretty clear they were both under the influence, had sex, and blacked out about it (which as @earanie and @hemerae-ramblings pointed out, is highly unrealistic since memory losses are NOT a side-effect of LSD, but I can hear the argument of denial here). But speaking of 306, the finale completely doomed this episode for me, because in retrospect it feels like a giant set-up. The LSD scene is ONLY here to make it possible for Adam to have unprotected sex (side point here, I'm actually not mad they hooked up, even though it's kind of frustrating to see it happen this way, because I find the "offscreen banging reveal" a hilarious yet underused trope, and also I like the messiness), and while this last point is in a way funny, the worst part is the three months window at the end, which has in fact NOTHING to do with Adam sorting his feelings or whatever but is only here to forbid the possibility of abortion for Morgane, and this makes me want to stab people multiple times.
Also, one last thing that I find absolutely disgusting is the fact that Morgane and Adam (presumably) conceived a baby against their will (there's a whole other discussion to have about consent here but I won't go there for today) while solving a case about a BABY BORN FROM RAPE. I mean, can you make it more icky than that? Do the writers even acknowledge the irony of this? Do they even care? This baby is doomed by the narrative from the fertilization stage, and we're supposed to enjoy it as a comedy?
And now I assume we'll get to watch a forced coming together between Adam and Morgane due to the circumstances, which means that even if they end up together we'll never know if they actually wanted it? What a way to kill a ship, man, I've seen shows pretty efficient at ship-sinking but this has to be in the top three.
(somehow there's a wild irony in the fact that both the showrunners and the main cast have been saying on repeat from season 1 that they didn't want to make that disappointing season that ruins most shows, and yet they managed to spectacularly fuck-up and promise the worst season ever, and they're already paying for it audience-wise...)
See, all of this is the silver lining I'm holding onto for now, in the hope of a miscarriage (which would also be incredibly traumatic for Morgane, and still an objectified-by-the-plot scenario, but at this point our options are limited. Also for now the showrunners are only mentioning the pregnancy but not the baby so maybe there's a tiny chance she actually doesn't have it), because there's no way anyone could rejoice from this. And if she does have this baby, and if it's Adam's, then I'll officially change their shipname from Brosse Adam to Brosse & Rachel, and this will probably be my last contribution to this fandom. Hated this in Friends, will hate it in HPI.
I'm not pessimistic about season 4, anon, I just don't want to consider it at all. Obviously, I'm ready to withdraw everything I said here if they choose the only acceptable outcome (abortion) and actually make an extremely powerful narrative and political statement about it, but I know it's off the table. Having to endure such a plotline in 2023, at a time when women's right to dispose of their own bodies is threatened everywhere in the world, is a very painful punch in the face, and I sincerely hope they'll get a ton of backlash on social media for this. I just saw this morning that the airing of 308 had the lowest audience numbers ever in the show's history, and I can't say that it makes me unhappy.
(I was lowkey hoping for a cancellation at this point, even though I know the chances weren't great, but I found out today that the show was officially renewed so we won't even get the solace of knowing they can't do any further damage... Eh 🤷‍♀️)
Finally, the thing that saddens me the most isn't even what they did to Morgane and to the show, it's what they did to our community as a result. I have been alone in this fandom for almost a year, and it was incredibly frustrating. And then people joined, created content, interacted, had fun, and we had such an amazing time together, writing, giffing, vidding, sharing theories, jokes, and thoughts. I've met some incredible, witty people, some of them I dare to call friends. And now it feels like everything is falling apart. Friends are leaving, or considering to. Group chats have turned into support groups. The writers didn't only ruin the show, they took away the enjoyment we gathered from it, and it sickens me. Personally, I've had a very rough first semester of 2023, and this community is what has kept me afloat. It's made me smile and laugh in times of sadness, it's given me a shiny, quirky escape that I'll never be grateful enough for. And to witness it all collapsing really hurts. I do hope it's just a bump in the road, that we'll come back eventually, sticking together and collectively despising canon, ignoring it by ferociously writing AUs, and roasting the timeline, and making Daphné-centered vids, but I'm not even sure myself where I stand regarding my own involvement in this fandom. Nothing else to say, I just miss what we had, that's all 😢
Now that I'm thinking about it, "J'avais tellement envie que ça marche entre nous" is exactly how I feel about canon right now. You know when I said that getting into a new hyperfixation felt like falling in love? Well, this shitty ending feels like getting ugly dumped.

Is Darcy reprehensible for not warning people/doing something about Wickham? I've seen the idea around in fandom & I'd love to know your thoughts. It always strikes me as being a pretty non-Georgian sentiment & Darcy's intervention later is presented as unusual rather than percived as something he should have done earlier.
I wouldn't say reprehensible, no, and his handling of the Lydia situation definitely goes above and beyond what anyone could reasonably expect of him. Even Elizabeth doesn't expect it after discovering he was at the wedding—her speculations about his involvement that throw him in the best possible light still fall short of what he's actually done.
As for what he might have done earlier, I think it's ... complicated.
For one, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place with regard to his responsibility to safeguard Georgiana vs a wider social responsibility. It's easy to say that, of course, the social good should come before any particular individual, and that publicizing Wickham's character would have been preferable.
But personally, I think it's very understandable that Darcy, at age 27, considered his 15-year-old sister and ward who had just been preyed upon by a man of his own age, considered that she chose to tell him what was going on while believing herself in love, thought about the likely very long-term consequences to her reputation, and went "nope."
(There's the possibility of publicizing Wickham's character without bringing Georgiana into it, but if he boxes Wickham into a corner where he has nothing to lose, odds are good that Wickham himself will smear her reputation, so ethically, there's not much difference.)
This rationale is basically what he gives in the letter. Understandable doesn't mean right, but reprehensible just seems way too strong to me for someone in a position that difficult in that social context.
It's worth noting, I'll say, that his silence is something he feels the need to explain, even if it's debatable whether saying something during the novel would have made much of a difference among the Meryton crowd specifically. He might have tried to mediate it through Bingley, but he has repeatedly told Bingley about Wickham's real character while withholding the Georgiana episode, and Bingley tried to pass on a warning (even Caroline did in her way), but couldn't remember the details that Darcy had told him previously.
It's also worth noticing that Darcy's justification seems sufficient to both Elizabeth and Jane at the time, and presumably is shared by Colonel Fitzwilliam (who definitely knows about it and, given his reaction to Elizabeth's slight reference to Georgiana, appears to be 100% onboard with protecting Georgiana's reputation as her co-guardian). And even after the Lydia disaster and without knowing anything about Georgiana's involvement, sensible Mrs Gardiner dismisses the idea that anyone but Wickham and Lydia should be held responsible, and specifically, that Darcy should.
Also notably, although Darcy holds himself responsible in his conversation with the Gardiners, and explains his greater knowledge of Wickham and Mrs Younge, Mrs Gardiner remarks that he doesn't explain what the cause of disapprobation actually was—so even at his most self-critical, he's still trying to protect Georgiana as far as the circumstances allow.
I don't think his penitence is just a cover for his "real" motivation of helping Elizabeth, for what it's worth. In the novel, Darcy says he wasn't thinking of her family but only of her, but he also says that he won't deny that his feelings for her "add[ed] force to the other inducements which led me on," which I suspect is a reference to his feelings of culpability. But no other character considers him responsible or finds his rationale for silence unsatisfactory, so I do think the kind of take you mention exceeds what is really supported by the novel, or would be a common perspective at the time.
It's not that any criticism of how he handled the situation is excessive or ahistorical, but—like, there was a viral post about his "toxic masculinity" with regard to this that a bunch of people sent me, and I thought it was, let's say, painfully misguided in terms of the novel and its social context. And I do run into takes like that reasonably often, and they very rarely acknowledge that a) he is not uniquely accountable for what multiple people know, and b) that his claim to guilt is immediately thrown into doubt by Mrs Gardiner.
So, uh, that's my take on it, and sorry it took so long to get back to you!

firstly i love the idea that julian and garak get into these heated literature conversations and julian values it so much he has to have obrien replace garak when he's gone. i don't think obrien did a very good job...considering all the racketball julian has doggedly put in while keiko was away he should have stepped up!!
secondly please don't say caesar. it was a good setup for garak's dramatic irony later though.

sisko LITERALLY choosing to disobey orders to go get One Guy. picard would have let his ass die. and it means so much to me because 1. he got a message and wryly told kira to disregard it 2. if he AHDN'T been there odo and garak would have died. like, he got there in JUST the nick of time 3. him stopping obrien from knocking out the traitor but warning that guy "i'd stay away from o'brien if i was you" lmaooo 4. "we're gonna get singed at that range" "not as singed as they're gonna get, ENGAGE" nobody has ever served like sisko serves. he's so FUCKING cool, dude, i can't get over how great he is
the torture scenes were just like the psychoanalyzing scenes except this time there was actual violence involved, even though they never touched each other. "the only common enemy we share is tain the difference is you don't know it" caesarcore unfortunately. garak trying to wiggle out of it and then realizing this is the price of admission if he wants back in. knowing odo is hiding something because it's what HE would do and they are BASICALLY THE SAME GUY. odo's sarcasm ("oh nooo mister garak pleeease don't torture me have mercy 🙄") turning to annoyance to fear to RAGE. AUGHGHGHG
like, it's exactly like that one scene in atla where zuko is talking to iroh in prison but the bars are only visible around zuko's face. odo is spitting such venom at garak that HE IS ALSO BEING TORTURED. garak didn't realize until tain talked about killing his housekeeper that he didn't have the stomach for it anymore but odo knew from the very beginning. odo never asked garak to make it stop GARAK BEGGED ODO TO MAKE IT STOP. LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME
"tell me something anything lie if you have to but say it PLEASE" like ARE. YOU. KIDDING ME
only odo could walk into a torture chamber and have the torturer begging for it to stop and only garak could start torturing someone and then beg them to break. SAME GUY. it was PERFECT. whatever way i imagined this was bad and wrong and less stellar than what they actually did, which was FUCKING insane
and then after all that the secret just being a personal one. not useful at all. "i hope it was worth it" and odo slides into the bucket and garak puts his head in his fucking hands. MWAH
AND THEN LATER. SAYING ODO NEVER BROKE. and it's kind of a lie but it's also kind of true because odo didn't break FIRST. garak did. you could imagine odo broke because garak begged him or because he couldn't take anymore but in every sense that matters he outlasted his torturer.
garak almost dying to save the world's worst guy <3 like he really promised that housekeeper. he definitely deserved the black eye odo gave him in the sense that he deserved some pain back but in another way didn't deserve the compassion behind it because anyone else in odo's position would be tempted to let him die. so much for "odo doesn't have feelings" ie garak's earlier hypothesis. like the way in the shuttle he says later you know i get it i too want to go home (and unsaid: but i can't stomach the people who live there and what they do and what they stand for even though i miss them horribly). THEY ARE THE SAME GUY. i loved their little last-minute goodbye int he shuttle and then sisko's unexpected rescue. WOW what a sequence!
the changelings would take odo in a heartbeat and STILL he says no because he loves the people he's surrounded himself with :( <3 ESPECIALLY KIRAAA
loved the plot twist of the romulan changeling btw. "no changeling has ever harmed another" i really really really hope odo is the first. ik it would make him sad but it would make ME so happy
and then. of course. the final scene. tng would never do this. tng would have them rescued, they'd nod at one another, the credits would roll. but the mirror scene...
like, i expected garak to look at himself, you know? like damn who am i what have i become i was miserable when i went back and i'm miserable here

TONIGHT: voy's "faces" and ds9's "explorers," though i sadly realized just a little while ago that the source i used for my airdates for this spreadsheet was not good...possibly we have been watching them ever so slightly out of order for some time...i'll have to check the true extent of the damage later tonight.

Do you have any headcanons for Arthur Denton?
I saw this one headcanon (I don't remember where from) that he's from the galaxy Transylvania, which I love and fully accept as canon. It's especially funny considering that the town in The Rocky Horror Picture Show is called Denton. To go along with this I headcanon him as a he/it demiboy. And because he's referred to with it/its pronouns in canon. I used to headcanon him as gay but I switched to him being bi because it worked better for my fic Grow Hard For Me. Also for that fic I came up with the idea of him being a dental assistant (even though that contradicts with the lore of the 1960 movie, it works better for what I was doing there) and basically a fuckboy who hits up multiple dentists a week in addition to occasional tattoo artists and managing to get picked up/pick people up at bars for his masochistic shenanigans.
He mostly uses them as tools for his pleasure and doesn't care about them emotionally beyond getting somewhat attached to people who are dominant and aggressive like he likes, but his like of them is moreso based on what they can do for them than actually liking them as people. His primary physical types are otters (slim hairy men, kinda like bears but not fat, what Orin has going on basically) and essentially what Audrey has going on, but he won't be attracted to people with those body types or any body types unless they're dominant and forceful, and if they are that'll override them not having his preferred physical types by far. Actually he can basically be attracted to anyone who is dominant and forceful (...and, y'know, an adult) and frequently forms superficial, short-lived 'crushes' that are mostly based on what he wants the other person to do to him sexually.
He would have the potential to form these crushes on Mushnik (appropriately forceful and dominant looking), Audrey (does take charge often outside of the context of her abusive relationships as can be seen with her coming up with the plan to use the plant to save the shop and basically being the ringleader there), and Twoey (would 100% be his one true love, this ship is so underrated), but not Seymour (just look at him, not even the murder can make up for all that.) He is borderline aromantic and would only experience romantic attraction/love/a desire for a monogamous romantic relationship in extremely specific circumstances that could basically only happen with an Arthur Denton x Twoey scenario (another creature not only thriving from his pain but also being made from the product of it, his blood, thus creating an extremely strong bond in his very idiosyncratic worldview), which is what Grow Hard For Me is.
I have some alternate headcanons/interpretation based on the premise of him being in love with Orin, like his childhood paralleling Orin's in that his parents were appalled by his masochistic shenanigans and tried and failed to get him to grow out of them, him being the one who called the police to report Orin missing (I didn't come up with this one but I don't remember where I saw it), and him having a delusional wish/expectation that Orin will return and save him from the drudgery of Skid Row, paralleling Audrey's desire for Seymour to do the same that she very much did not think would ever happen.
Shout out to this fic, this person also gets the potential of Arthur Denton x Twoey

hello. seeing as some of you liked the previous analysis here's the other one i did. not solely on radar but very radar-centric bc of the nature of this scene. anyways under the cut is an analysis of this scene: (copy and pasted from a twt thread)

OKAY you know what. ive already been crazy about this scene to multiple people already but i need to post this publicly. anyways thread abojt this scene GO i can say something about literally every line so that's what im going to do atp. "you'll never change"... this is a particularly interesting line to me for some reason because it doesnt Sound like something youd expect radar to say. not only does this immediately reveal that he Knows Stella but also implies she was pretty much the same in the past. also.
- once again this is not ooc for radar to say but unexpected based on what the player knows about him as a character up to this point
- this is what somehow gets stella to recognize him. even though she says he looked Familiar this is what makes her go Oh Yeah I Know You
"oh I thought I recognized you! you're the quitter who used to work on my inventory management team!" this is another particularly interesting to Me. for one it does give the backstory that he did quit himself - she didn't fire him or anything. quitting was radar's decision. whatever the circumstances were, though, stella seems to be clearly a bit resentful of it (or at the very least it stands out to her), enough to where she defines radar as a "quitter" and that's how she remembers him. notably, when she says this his expression quickly changes from kind of neutral to slightly frustrated which is. hm. whatever happened between them seems to have left them on bad terms as both radar and stella seem really. hostile
"do you two know eachother?" despite one of the main writers saying that radar's worked foe jesse for abojt a year, this has never come up. it's possible thag it was just Never Important, but it could also be that radar's trying to hide his past with champion city. which makes sense given how ashamed he seems when admitting he used to work for champion city. whatever happened between radar and stella is clearly kind of a sore subject it seems
"i don't know what he told you to get on this little 'team', but I don't think he even knows how to use a sword" see this also has a lot of relevance. the first clause kind of implies that stella thinks there's no way radar could have earned a place on the team of his own merits. like she thinks that he basically either had to manipulate, lie, beg, whatever - she doesn't think he's worthy of being there. and this is particularly interesting because earlier on in the episode radar specifically has to ask to go with them. like originally nobody considered bringing him.
and then she says "i don't think he even knows how to use a sword" which. i have said this before but mcsm seems to operate in a very survival oriented society so not knowing something like that is seen as like. Odd. essentially seeing radar as weak. and this was New information too so shes basically. exposing yhat fact to everyone else. and you can tell radar's ashamed of that fact too from how he reacts when she says that! he KNOWS he's not strong and that he doesn't know how to fight properly and is 100% aware of that fact, stella's just using that to what seems like get people to turn against him (???) or whatever. she's not talking to radar because he Knows this, she's telling jesse. idk what else to say about that really but its. hm
also "you don't know anything, stella, so zip it" again! unusually hostile from radar but like this and in later lines its clear he's trying to prove himself and overcompensate a bit
"ooh how do you put up with that little voice of his, jesse? i never could" not entirely sure what this means open to suggestions but twice she makes comments on how squeaky his voice is (later in the episode she calls it "shrill"). unsure what this means really
"not everyone needs to know how to swing a sword, stella - radar has a lot of his own skills" something abojt this option. even though radar's not physically strong he is fairly smart snd thats something Very intrgral to his character I Think.
"yeah! thanks jesse" almost came across as if radar was struggling to stand up for jimself. he's just like me fr
"can't wait to see 'em. ill call you if the admin needs to file anything" once again she views radar being unable to fight as a flaw that overrides his other abilities (...interesting considering she herself never directly fights shit really). like she's saying basically Oh yeah filing and organizing is the only thing youre good for!! like OKAY... not even going to go into on hownautistic coded radar is but like. lord
also the way he says "...i appreciate that" is a lot more like. idk how to describe it but his va delivers it in a much softer tone than when he thanks jesse a few seconds earlierniys like. hm idk "im not the person she thinks i am anymore. ive changed, and i can prove it" who is the person she thinks you are radar. not only is this alluding to his whole Yeah I Have To Overcompensate And Be Strong!!! thing but also he seems to want to impress jesse in particular

Guillermo is fucking complicated and I'm so happy that I'm not the one who has to write him into a series officially but well how would HE have come to that conclusion? (Reference to this post here and the conclusion is clearly the wanting human set).
First I want to say that yes the imbalance of power influences this but beyond that I think one of the reasons these specific vampires became his found family is because he is similar to them on many points and one of them is the fear of change.
Yes to say that Guillermo the one who changed everything is afraid of change is one thing to say. I know but it doesn't seem so far fetched to me considering that for 13 years he helped maintain a status quo in the house until outside circumstances forced him to change. He literally had no choice.
That's where the familiar master power thing could come in because we've seen really old familiars but I think considering how alien the relationship is between Guillermo and Nandor to be master and familiar; this was Guillermo wanting to keep things the same. No alterations.
I think genuinely the 19 year old Guillermo wanted to be a vampire with his soul. And that there are more reasons behind why Memo kept the status beyond the fear he felt of change (his love for Nandor being the most obvious), but I can see how he wanted to be trapped to some extent with these creatures that have been left behind by the passage of time.
And the Van Helsing lineage thing happens. Memo abruptly receives an irrefutable sign that shatters his lifelong dream: being a vampire is not in the world's plans. You are a vampire hunter in reality.
Memo's world trembles to its foundations with this revelation and I find it very interesting how being a slayer brought him closer to what he wanted: to be an equal within the vampire house. That they would have respect for him and recognize his worth more than his power. Guillermo the hunter is everything the normal Guillermo can't but it's also not something that gives him 100%, what he wants. He has no interest in killing vampires unless they want to harm his own in some way.
He certainly doesn't enjoy the idea of slaughtering vampires for the sake of it. His conflict with the Baron his first victim is very telling as it is Memo doing almost irreparable harm to someone he admired and feared. A test of what his impact on others can do. Something that is overwhelming. Let alone Derek who is quite an issue in his own right.
Way back at the beginning of the season I talked about how Memo put a lot of expectations and dreams into the idea of vampirism. I think for as much as one would think that by reading Anne Rice's depressive vampires, Guillermo would be ready for what was coming his way it is more possible he was interested and focused on reflecting his complicated feelings about his sexuality, his self-esteem, his relationships, etc, in these than reflecting on the reality of vampirism.
Memo suffered an abrupt shock because his whole idealization of vampirism was destroyed and slaughtered in unimaginable ways. And it was a very strong idealization with good foundations, for 13 years he saw these vampires enjoying their immortal existence and being free and sexy.
So it is only natural that his fall into the reality of vampirism and his eventual disenchantment was stronger. First shock; vampirism does not make him his best version. His insecurities are still there and in fact grow. He is still the same. Second shock: it is natural for the 19,20,21,etc. Memo. He wouldn't have cared about his biological family, he was young and felt he would never miss them but selfishly he is 30 and now wants them back because Laszlo and Nandor in their own way in s3, ruined his big chance of be a vamp and he dind't how deeply all the vampires love him. Then in s4 he shows his family for who he really is in a way and gets their love and validation. It's hard to say goodbye forever. More because they are slayers too, they would want to destroy you.
Third shock: it's irreparable. What, you may say with the ending but I really don't think anyone but Nandor knew that sire thing exactly. Makes sense, he's one of the few who read the vampire code apparently. So Guillermo knew this was a decision with no turning back.
And finally added this season was the bonus that vampirism could make him be far from the love of his life and his FOUND FAMILY!

ahri is prone to little touches when it comes to him. very innocent, mind you — but anything he'd allow. putting on the cloak and adjusting it on yone is a good example, though i imagine she would also do things like casually touch his arm, or sit by his side, or anything really that is simple but maintains that sort of contact. i think she simply feels very comfortable around him, and that there's also comfort in being able to relax like that when she doesn't get it around most people.
we talked about it before, but i think ahri is very fond of art in general, and that she'd love his music. just. quietly peacefully listening to him play. i like to think she'd learn of his fondness for poetry at some point, as well, and i honestly think she'd like his poetry too. you mentioned how after death yone doesn't really feel he should get to indulge in stuff like that, and i think she'd not only appreciate it when he does, but supportive that he should, because she's 100% there to help him realize his existence doesn't have to be just hunting azakana and that the circumstances of how he came back don't need to define what he does with every moment of his life now. also the quiet comfy moments when he's playing and she's cozy listening or just peace and silence while he's writing or something.
one day they'll be travelling through a village or something and yone will get to see how much less relaxed ahri is, considering she would then need to be very much on guard for the sake of restraint and fear of inadvertently hurting someone, and just generally adopting her mysterious cloaked woman who reveals nothing disguise and have a moment of actual realization of just how comfortable around him she is. surprised pikachu face on his part i imagine. but if he asked about it, ahri would likely explain and outright speak of how at ease she gets to be around him. but how honest and open she'd be about her perceived monstrousness depends on how close they are. the 'i'm terrified of getting close to people because i loved a man and killed him when i lost control and don't want to risk it happening again' backstory would demand them being very close for her to share, i think in part because she expects yone would then see her as an actual monster, and like i said, she enjoys his company :c still, i can see them getting close enough she'd eventually speak of it
regardless, ahri needs to feed on people's spirit essence, and while she might try to keep that from him initially while they're traveling together, yone would surely notice her nightly escapades. i think she'd be reluctant to speak of it and what she needs to feed on, at least initially, but i also think it'd be obvious she doesn't like it, and that she absolutely doesn't want to hurt anyone. so if (and that depends on you) yone was to eventually know and you know, not hate her for it and try to murder or leave, i just think he could also help keep her in check, since it wouldn't be a risk to him. and honestly yone just strikes me as someone who'd recommend restraint even when it comes to her use of her other powers, like the charm. ahri doesn't hesitate to use it (in this context the magic, but, you know, the natural charm is also something she would not hesitate to use), be it to get information, deescalate a situation, ensure people won't be suspicious or just to get something they want, and i just think yone would be a little no magically influencing people to do what you want except as a last resort and ahri would be okay 😔 AISDFJAISDJF but yeah what i mean is, if they are close and yone accepts her the way she is, i think he'd be a good influence with the restraint ahri doesn't always have. but on the other side of that, i also feel ahri's playfulness and how at ease she'd be around him might help him loosen up a bit, so there'd be a neat balance in that sense

given ahri remembers her past lives, she'd remember yone from base runeterra, and i like to think she already had her memories when they met in the music verse (through eve, as we discussed). i think ahri would be happy to see him again, and that she'd be happy to see him doing so much better than in his previous incarnation. she does occasionally get a little melancholy about not being remembered, but honestly she'd agree it's for the best that he doesn't have memories from his previous lives. very fond of yone from the start because of that, though. (and, as we also said, likely to be very oh of course you'd say/do that when he does something very Yonecore™️ — which can be an affectionate thought or an exasperated one tbh)
given her powers, ahri can easily sense his emotions regardless of how he might disguise or hide them. and when it comes to his frustration and disappointment and general upset with the music industry and how it works, even beyond her general sense of empathy ahri just gets it, because in many ways she feels the same. it'd certainly take them being closer for that to ever be made known, but i can see it happening — and i can see ahri being there for him when it gets difficult to bear, for whatever reason. when it comes to public situations, too, like with the one interview ask, i just think if they're together ahri would easily take the lead to deal with things in the best possible way and leave him unburdened (as much as possible).
in a similar but not quite the same note to the base verse hcs, i like the idea of ahri learning not about his interest in music, which is widely known here, but his work as a lyricist (maybe he shows her something eventually?) because she'd be. very encouraging of him putting that out in the world and using his own voice for that. ahri is always supportive of artists she sees potential in, but it's more than that; she's supportive of music as a means to express yourself, and anything he creates would certainly have been done more in that sense than as an attempt to sell, which is something she greatly admires. and, of course, with them being friends, she'd only be even more encouraging of him writing and singing his own songs, as well as supportive in any way he'd need
i don't think ahri particularly... tries to hide she is not human as much as people don't usually believe it anyway. her powers (and her hunger) are kept to herself and a select few who'd know, but like, that she's not human and the tails and ears are real and stuff, i don't think she hides that. but i figure it wouldn't? be a big deal to yone, given his friendship with sett. as to her... more unsavory powers, if they were close in base verse, ahri would be tempted to make him one of the few she'd trust to know the truth of her nature (he knew before! he accepted her the way she was! she'd want to believe he'd do it again), but i don't think she would actually tell him unless he somehow found out or they grew close enough she'd volunteer the information.

No need to apologize, a sudden essay was truly all I ever wanted 🥹 it does align quite perfectly doesn’t it? I mean sometimes it’s all about “reading between the lines” as Lestat once said, specially when it comes to characters who are not Lestat himself/the people closest to him at any given time or POV characters, and this is one of those instances where we’re given just enough to do that imo, it’s all there in the timelines like you said. “It just won't change the fact that he had a second chance to do it right this time with Daniel where he had failed before, to not be a blunt object seeking practical solutions and prove he can in fact take care of people without destroying them”, god this is so true, and I think it also ties back to him being a “failed experiment” in his maker’s eyes, and how he’d been conditioned in his mind (by fate, by circumstance) to repeat that pattern. Armand’s sense of identity in regards to who he is to Daniel is a huge thing too and I’ve always HC that at some point during their difficult years and then in their years apart, he probably rationalized it as him only being fit to be his lover but not his teacher in the blood (which of course represented yet another unforgivable failure).
“He's trying so hard in the modern age to make caregiver be a huge part of him and to be seen as someone who keeps his children safe and even if Daniel was safe at the time, I can't help but think it would bother him that his own firstborn had to be cared for by someone else and that maybe Lestat would be the only person he would really admit this to because he would be the one to understand it.” Yes! Reminds me of that great post by @monstersinthecosmos I think(!) that had me nodding along from start to finish where they mentioned (and I’m only paraphrasing lmao) how Trinity Gate, despite having being conceived as a safe place where people could all heal and come together as a family, also ends up being a place where Armand has to live up to a lot of expectations (the caretaker, the teacher, the protector), like he had to in the cult, and then the theater. And not only that but it would also serve as a constant reminder of how when it had mattered the most, with his own fledging, he was not able to do it. Lestat would totally understand Armand and never judge him for it, he’s “failed” in similar ways before and plays a similar role to Armand’s in the present (the only difference I think is the scale, Lestat has made more fledglings than one can count and Armand only has Daniel to dump all of his trauma on, bless) xoxo DA still sad asf but your meta is like chicken soup for the soul ❤️‍🩹
Absolutely all of this!! Lestat is not omnicient, even if sometimes it feels like he is and you have to remember you're a person removed from his stories.
Oooh yeah actually that is an excellent point, it makes it a little bit worse that it's Marius that takes care of Daniel and the whole idea of maybe Daniel would be considered a failed fledgling from Armand adds to the idea of him being a failed experiment himself. It's a generational trauma thing too, I think this is something Daniel is terrified of being seen as something Armand regrets and sees as a failure, but Armand trying to figure out who he is to people is such a big pattern in all of his identites and part of it definitely feels like it stems from feeling like he can't measure up to his previous self in the eyes of his own maker. Like he couldn't even get something that any back alley vampire made on a whim can do properly, that is a spiral waiting to happen even if it's not true.
Absolutely 100% agree that Armand could rationalise it that way, he does tend to seperate his identities and roles as a coping mechanism but I also think it's just another nail in the coffin of feeling like this is his failure. It would have been compounded by living with the day to day of Daniel when he was at his worst and probably wound have caused a knock on spiral which wouldn't have been fair to either of them, but it doesn't make it easier.

This just punches me in the gut every time. I hadn't really thought about it in this context but you're right, the scale of it with Lestat and Armand being seen as community leaders in their own right really does echo each other and puts so much pressure on both of them to be more than themselves. They are roles and figureheads but that doesn't leave them with much space to explore their own traumas and identities in detail. Even in their own homes, it's not really about them.
Someone really needs to make a therapist for these folks, they really need to learn some ways to process what they're going through that isn't running away (Lestat) or trying to wear his reputation like armour to protect not only himself but his children (Armand). I think if you sat down and really interrogated why Armand feels the need to protect his own people so intensely, he's been losing them since he was a child and losing himself over and over at the same time and it's why I think it would bother him to have someone else do that for his child. It's become a part of how he sees himself so it shakes his very sense of identity and it wouldbe a fascinating thing to explore one day.
