Speaking of Shimazaki, I learned a lot about myself this week making these terrible memes so I could drop them in the discord chat as I made my friends watch MP100. What I learned was, I have a terrible sense of humor (actually I already knew that, I just didn't realize it was this bad) and that the only thing I enjoy more than watching Shimazaki kick ass, is Shimazaki getting his ass kicked. (I'll have more of these for next week when we get to Serizawa's stuff! Sorry!)

I think I have a silly ask to shoot at you, iirc you've shown how maanuls/kyhuines are shown in historical art, what would their style equivalent of anime look like?

A BIG stretch would be the style developed during the first decade of SA, called "harma" which takes its roots from the kyhuine's word for "peace" but it was actually first done by a southern maanul! it takes inspiration from maanuls and a bit of kyhuine's traditional art, as well as the style they use for animated cave art. Mentioning it like this sounds weird but I can't develop it here since it's a whole other subject.

the style doesn't care about perspective, which isn't something new as maanul/kyhuine art barely has perspective in them tho an exception would be the style created for propaganda in kaar'kchir during GA. Harma isn't anatomically correct either, the whole concept about it is just exaggerating traits and doing erratic lines in a way that makes me artist feel lively, the style revolves around round shapes to make it come off as "friendly" in a sort of way.

Maanuls really see art as just a way to have fun and express themselves, even if the cave paintings are "ugly" they are encouraged as they say that it just good for the soul. Kyhuines do enjoy creating art but their brain is more on creating inventions, maanuls are known for being more creative in the artistic field.

LU Time, Fierce, and Mask all wearing 'cool' sunglasses, suggested by @vicmillen !

It took me forever to move from step to step because the idea of Fierce wearing bright yellow flower sunnies without acknowledging them continues to make me giggle

(the flowers/grass are a brush in clipstudio thank frick im not that ready to go that ham on bgs freehand yet and it felt wrong to have them all floating in space)

i wanted to pull these tags out specifically because they might be helpful to someone.

my education was almost entirely traditional techniques, but there's no reason that knowledge cannot also apply to a digital format. working on each piece of a drawing/painting/etc separately can often result in the issue that the parts themselves are well-made and beautifully crafted, but don't fit together, because they were made in isolation, rather than in consideration of the whole. symptoms are things like values have good range in specific items, but its difficult to tell what is happening in the drawing-or after completing one piece of anatomy, you discover it is too large or small compared to what it connects to.

this is one of the things speedpainting studies of images you like or movie stills can help if you want to give it a try - the goal is to capture as much of the whole image as possible in a limited amount of time, rather than perfect accuracy (accuracy comes with practice). if you do not have *time* to perfectly render every leaf you can instead focus on what are the things that will make it read as a plant and get those in. here's one of my first attempts, where i spent way too long on the face and didn't have time for anything else (also omg look how big the hand is):

after a bit of practice it just becomes ingrained ^^;

(this is one of those cases where I understand that everyone works differently and everyone has different goals, so please don't take this as you *must* do it 'my way' to be an artist, rather if you feel like this has been an issue you're encountering in your own work, give it a try)
