Hello my little grieving friends (aka my CREW!)
I just want to talk about how much our flag means death has given me. I have not had internet friends since i were a teenager. They all kind of disapeared over time in the same way as high school classmates went away. I have been on this blog on tumblr since 2010 and i have never experienced what ofmd has given me. Not even in my very derranged ca 5 year long sherlock-era did i get to befriend and know this many amazing people who live in my phone. Some of you have come and gone and that is life, but some of you are still here and I hope I get to keep you here for a very long time. Max can not stop us and I want to be here with you until tumblr is put down like the beloved rabid pet it is.
I think we are all taking the news very hard and I think it's important to remember what it is all about really. It's about love and family and above all else the crew so i just want to show some love for my beloved mutuals. And i hope maybe some of you will be inspired to do the same because its what we need in these dark times. We need to be a lighthouse guiding each other to shore.
First of all @gentlebeard - Ella💕 my beloved honey 🍯 I can not explain properly or even believe how lucky I am that I found you and that I get a little good morning from you every day. We have been talking every single day since the first message over a year ago and I don't remember or want to remember how i survived before that. I will treasure the time i spent drinking pina coladas on your balcony in the sun forever and i hope i will get some more time on that balcony this summer. I have found a pirate bar in Sweden so we can continue our expensive pirate drinks theme that we started in Berlin. There is no one else i want to spend 6-8 hours talking to over the phone.💕My partner in crime, lasagna partner and floor person or whatever nicknames we have come up with during this time. You are not just the perfect friend to have, you are also funny, sweet, smart and a expert at making fanvideos that make me cry my heart out and laugh my lungs up - sometimes at the same time 💕💕

You brighten my days and i love talking to you you brilliant humanbeing (i often find myself thinking i have listened to much to cabin pressure because i struggle to use any other word than brilliant to explain things.. the Arthur runs deep in me) also thank you for being my personal skincare guide in life!! 2023 gifs in review tag game

I only started making gifs partway through this year, so there was a big learning curve and i still think i'm pretty newbie but it has been a lot of fun and it's nice looking back on how much i think i've improved, though i have so much left to learn next year
i am going to ramble too much because this is my post, fair warning, forgive my self indulgence

this was the very beginning, back in the photopea days before i tried photoshop (i am still quite fond of photopea, 1. because it is free and 2, for stills i think it's just as good as photoshop, but i could never figure out how to make gifs look good with its dithering system. i have seen some remarkable gifmakers using photopea tho so that's a my limited skill problem, and i'm glad i used it to dip my toes into the process!)
i only posted 1 set for abaab this month which looks not good but is still a very fun scene, but this was not actually the first thing i made (see below).

so this year I ~challenged myself to post a gifset once a week, because making gifsets is something I enjoy very much and can always improve in but literally cannot do for money or lbr meaningful validation and I am historically bad at doing things that fit those categories!
I ended up posting 54 gifsets in 2023, one a week plus a few extras lol. A few stats behind the cut just for fun!
Most popular overall: "I'm so glad I met you" with 1,738 as of this morning. Objectively correct. The nicest-looking gifs I maybe made all year and an all-time scene. Made it my pinned post recently.
Least popular overall: A Community set of Jeff making a Dane Cook joke, coming in at a grand total of 39 notes. This was actually a remake of a set I made YEARS ago because I think it's a great joke lmao. A set doomed imo by the youths on my lawn not knowing who Dane Cook is and also tbf Jeff as the only featured study group character.
Honorable mention to the Rangers World Series set I made, but I'm actually floored and delighted that it got 43 notes. There are dozens of us!!

Interesting split of 18 shippy sets and 36 non-shippy. Including "outliers," shippy sets averaged 621 notes compared to an average of 332 for gen sets. Throwing out the two lowest note-getting posts from each set, the averages jump to 680 and 350. Also not a surprise; fandom loves a ship lol.

The Dr. Cox set was a mostly-for-me fave. The Always Sunny set happened because I thought the Aaron Paul/Bryan Cranston episode was one of the funniest the show has had in years; that episode was also what finally pushed me into watching Breaking Bad this year, which I mostly really enjoyed lol.
The set I made from the finale of The Bear s2 ended up the sixth most popular set of the year with 1k+ notes and it's probably the set I most notice on my activity page every week. It does look really nice but also, I see you, Syd/Richie fandom, and I hear your siren song. Maybe in 2024...
So OK! Hey! I set a meaningless fun goal and accomplished it!! I'm not setting another specific gif goal for 2024 so will probably be a lot more sporadic. Or not! Who knows!

Force Bond: this series i read YEARLY. it is such a wholesome cornerstone piece of fanfiction in my life, i cannot get enough of it and am amazed by the fact that the author has kept it going with new updates twenty years later. basic premise is that luke escapes from tatooine and a crazed ex-jedi who wants to kill him as a young child and winds up on coruscant where a chance encounter with the emperor's right hand man might change their lives forever :')
The Emperor Skywalker Conspiracy: this short one is just for laughs, it's a great use of memes to react to the news that luke skywalker is darth vader's son as if you were in the sw universe and learning about it in real time through tumblr updates
Where Our Intrepid Hero Doesn't Get Away: a fun set of short drabbles exploring various different au possibilities within the sw universe of vader having to come to the rescue of his reckless son<3
The Family Tree: THIS ONE IS SO GOOD, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW IT CHANGED ME. i fucking love this trope- character a and b get stuck somewhere with no escape and are forced to have a heart-to-heart conversation ITS SO DAMN GOOD AND EMOTIONAL AHHHH
The Heir: i absolutely adore this concept and how the author presented it; palpatine raising a young luke as his son and creating a rift of hatred between vader and his child, only for vader to find out the truth and murder the emperor thus making his young son the rightful ruler. so full of angst and delightful twists, it's a fun read!!

The Song of Roland - I wouldn't have picked it up if I didn't chance upon a neat old copy for free. It's, uh, educational? And the translation into Russian is quite beautiful
Angélique and the Demon, Angélique and the Ghosts, Angélique in Québec by Anne Golon - still reading this series and honestly can't wait to finish it - not because I don't like the books, but because the translation gets progressively worse with each volume. Someone please tell these people there's a difference between a wolverine and a lynx, or between a guinea pig and a porpoise (I know the latter two are called almost the same in Russian, but context, man. Context. Guinea pigs don't frolic in the waves). Story-wise, however, I am still having a great time
+ currently reading the next Angélique book and Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Atwater (the sequel to Half a Soul I read last month)

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) - honestly, I watched it because: 1) I wanted to check out the show but thought I won't understand anything without the movie; 2) Salma Hayek pretty. I didn't expect to enjoy it because it's written by Tarantino and I really, really don't vibe with Tarantino, but enjoy it I did. The hostage-taking part was actually unsettling and the vampire-fighting part was fun; the family dynamics were also good. Again, Salma Hayek pretty, which also helps
From Dusk till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999) - empty, skippable
From Dusk till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (1999) - now that's better, if only for the period setting. Ara Celi has perfect looks for a sweet kind girl tragically turned into a monster. I think the moral here is that if you're physically abusive to your kid, then your kid is better off being a vampire, what do you mean I'm misinterpreting?
From Dusk till Dawn: The Series (s1-3, 2014-2016) - as you could probably tell from the amount of gifsets I keep reblogging, I loved this one. Mythology, westerns, reluctant teamwork, family feels, hot people fighting and drinking blood - what's not to love? (Actually, that one character death is not to love, and the last episode is hella rushed, but what can you do). It actually isn't necessary to watch the film to understand it, but the knowledge of it makes it very interesting to compare the two and notice the cameos from the actors who were in the film. S3 kind of reminded me of Teen Wolf, which isn't much of a compliment, but this show overall had the same ambience as a lot of stuff I watched as a teen/in my early 20s (understandable, being made in that exact period), so that was nice.
Oak Thorn & The Old Rose of Love (2022) - this is like 20 minutes long but deserves to be on the list, because it's the story of Merlin and Nimue made by the director of The Green Knight, and it's beautiful
The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) - it's good! Not "wow, incredible" good, but good, and I'm glad it is, because it's such a powerful and underrated chapter of Dracula. A slightly more detailed review with spoilers here
Woe Is No Big Deal / Раз, два — горе не беда! (1988) - rewatched this gem and dying to know if Leigh Bardugo has seen it, because this satirical fairytale/Cold War allegory was doing ~tsarpunk~ long before her
Wild Nights with Emily (2018) - that's right, there's more than one comedy about Emily Dickinson. This one's based on a play and feels like a play, which took some time getting used to, but in the end I enjoyed it

I know, i know 😭 (30% anon here). It's not that i think the idea is absurd at all, like you listed so many good things!! I'm just trying to actively lower my own expectations because i'm the type who gets really invested and then consequently really disappointed (though i guess since this is tumblr most of us are that type lmao). I'm just used to shows not following through with subtext, and i'm not only talking about gay subtext, but all different kinds of plots. I hear you though, trust me!
Since i'm already in your inbox, i have a question: have you been around for a while? What's the history of the byler ship? Was it always popular? Did people always think there might be a serious chance or was it more of a crackship? Were there any popular theories that came true or that were completely false? Since i'm super new to the show myself i'm curious!
yeah i totally get it. my brain is just not wired to be able to have lower expectations for something that his this much evidence for. im either 100% confident in something in a show or i have absolutely no idea whats gonna happen lmao.
i only started being active in this fandom a few months ago but ive shipped byler and followed lots of byler blogs for years. people started shipping byler after s2 came out. i didnt see anything about it during s1 because they literally had two scenes together and there was almost nothing really to work with. but when i watched s2 when it first came out i distinctly remember thinking “….is anybody else seeing this?? am i crazy orrr?” and then i went on here and found a small fandom of people who shipped them too so i was like “ok cool nice”. at this point it was mostly gifsets of their scenes together and maybe some edits and we hadnt established whether we were gonna spell it byeler or byler yet lmao. then i found @kaypeace21 and she was the first person i saw ever actually analyze it and really start to believe that everything might be intentional.
before i followed her, i never even considered that they might actually go through with byler. i think that was the case for most people during s2. i shipped it in the same way i currently ship ronance and steveddie. i thought they were cute and had good chemistry but i never believed it would go anywhere because of mlvn and also just the doubt that an insanely popular 80s scifi show would put their main characters in a gay relationship. i still loved reading kaypeace’s analyses but i wasnt convinced yet. then s3 came out and that changed everything for me and a lot of other people.
i watched s3 the day it came out hoping for some crumbs of byler but again, not at all expecting anything evident of them actually going through with it. it was kinda just in the back of my mind bc i love this show mostly for the supernatural plot. but during their fight scene when mike said “its not my fault you dont like girls” i was shocked. that convinced me that at least will would have a crush on mike but i still wasnt sure about mike until that painfully awkward kiss on the last episode. it wasnt until a few months later i rewatched that season and went back to kaypeace and found SO many things that i missed!! mike not letting el touch him when they kissed, the drastic tone and aesthetic difference between the break up and the byler fight, the frame of mike perfectly in a closet when they kissed!! i was completely sold then and so were a lot of people. i also think it was around this time that finn liked some byler art that had the quote “im not gonna fall in love” on it so that made a lot of people like 👀.
then everything the cast and duffers have said leading up to volume one only increased my confidence. i went into volume one completely expecting more obvious queer coding and i was right to. i was already overly confident but the biggest thing from volume one that made me more confident wasnt even a byler scene, it was mike and el’s fight. im glad they had her explicitly call him out for not saying he loves her. they kinda had to spell it out for the general audience. that was a really good scene and the fact that they played eulogy over it!!!?? insane. i lost my mind when i watched that episode a second time and realized that. that is 10000% intentional and the only explanation could be that that fight was the death of their relationship.
anywho yeah ive shipped them almost since the beginning and its been so fun slowly realizing that theyre actually going to do this and watching it build up and seeing the general audience start to catch on. it added a whole other layer to a show that already would have been my favorite either way just because of the plot alone.

i’m so glad i found your post on luke getting electrocuted. I actually took a long time to start reblogging Luke in pain images and gifsets (and some I still don't) because they really sort of hurt my heart, no matter how fabulous Mark looks all contorted and wounded. I'm not a huge fan of whump actually, despite those tags ahahah. Don't really read it and you still won't find a lot of "off with his hand" scenes in my archive, for example. But you make an excellent point--some actors are just sexy when they suffer and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
I think one reason some people (yourself included) may find the electrocution scene so much of a turn on is how those muscle spasms, "o" faces, scrunched-up eyes, tousled hair and jerking hips give us a dark/warped mirror to the erotic throes of orgasm. Someone flailing around so elegantly, those long fingers, those tightly-clad legs....yeah.... Sigh. There’s a reason it’s called la petite mort, you know? 😈
Anyway, definitely don't feel weird or perverted about being into it. I get it. There are whole dissertations about how horror movies, for example, are these psychosexual outlets--examining the penetration of knives as phallic metaphor, etc etc and so forth... Lots of logical connections between agony and ecstasy, in other words.
Also, and I have discussed it here before, the "I am a Jedi" Death Star scenes are really the crowning hotness of all the Luke scenes in the trilogy. Like I don't know how everyone on set kept from creaming their pants that day/those days. Mark looks SO ridiculously sexy both before and after he's zapped, it honestly doesn't surprise me at all that the zapping also is melting everyone's butter.

As for other weird movie moments that turn me on, I am a sucker for the blood-spattered hero. I mean, Kevin Costner in Dances With Wolves? Mel Gibson in Braveheart? I’m dating myself but cut me some slack hahaha
These are dudes who take a lickin' and keep on lookin' lickable muwahahah. So Mark in that bacta tank, absolutely. I even commissioned art for that to have him super 美少年.
I think part of the attraction to these moments is they humanize our larger-than-life heroes, and they look so good doing it...It's like the old anime cliche of that single line of blood on the cheek. Our gods bleed, and that makes them attainable. Or something like that. I'm on a tangent now. But cinema is full of heroes that only get sexier the more they suffer and angst, so it’s a logical and very understandable kink, imo. chocopot, first of all: i followed you on tumblr bc I found your Howl's Moving Castle fics so incredibly charming. <3 Thank you for writing those.
I've been in fandom long enough that I've seen major fan wanks come and go, enough that i've gone from "oh no, fan wank! can't we all just get along?" to "omg this has all happened before why can't you fools see" to just leaving to go outside and smoke a cigarette til it's over, a la that meme of ben affleck.
I enjoyed the OFMD show, of course. I found it so charming, and it was such a wish fulfillment for me personally to have the perfect delicious dynamics that fandom eats like a full course meal, with the additional surprise of the canon supporting those pairings. I also appreciated the canon approaching this with a light touch, enough to leave room for fandom and also eschewing the usual ham-handed After School Special style way queer rep often is.
(I am of course not dismissing those representation efforts in any way, but those storylines don't always have the forward momentum that leads to the creation of fanworks. Sometimes the non-canon character dynamics lead to MORE fanworks because of more ambiguity to play with, funny enough)
I've been living vicariously through ofmd fanwank from you (thanks for being out there in the field, haha). So much of the Discourse with a capital D just seems so wild to me. The best way I can think to describe it is, instead of the "YesAnd" of most fandoms that feed off each other's energy, it's instead more of a "NoBut."
I was wondering if you think there's something different about this particular flavor of wank and what factors you think contribute to it.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked them. I gave up on DoMAYstic after like a week but I think I wrote some cute fluff during that week.
I started writing a response to this ages ago, but I think I need to scrap it and start over because I was getting too into the weeds.
On one level, I don't find the fandom that wanky at all. The amount of fic, art, gifsets, and vids created for OFMD after just one season is incredible, and while it's slowed down since last summer, it's still pretty intense. I see loads and loads of "Yes And" posts like "imagine ed and stede going to bed on the revenge after they reunite. imagine stede wrapping ed in one of his nightshirts" on Tumblr, and people posting their fic updates and other people reblogging and liking them. There is also discussion of representation in the show and how it's interpreted in fandom, and sometimes the latter is more of a "No But," but it's all in earnest and I think it's productive even when I disagree with people and quietly scroll past.
Now, Twitter? Twitter is an entirely different beast. Twitter as a website is designed to stimulate wank, making people express stupidly brash opinions for attention and then making other people feel the need to amplify that or dunk on it. Every time I spend a day doing Twitter on my fannish account, it's so draining and makes me feel like there's no hope for the fandom because it does the same thing. From my perspective it looks like there's a lot of clout chasing, people becoming semi-BNFs and attacking each other and getting hoist by their own petard when their tactics get used against them.
It's a microcosm, though. Almost none of it seems to escape the group of OFMD fans on Twitter who seem to really care about the drama, so I just kind of ignore it, or enjoy hearing about it secondhand.
The fandom is mostly a "Yes And" place. Sometimes in a good way (feverishly making excellent content), sometimes in a bad way (passing around flawed fanon as Definitely True). The AO3 category is bursting with creativity, thousands of canon and setting AUs, fusions, new ways to have the reunion happen, takes on backstory, and more. There's an incredible amount of fanart that does the same things. The fact that the slash juggernaut is also the main canon ship seems to have produced a fandom with a high degree of unity. While there's lots of discourse over Izzy stans, judging by AO3 that's actually a pretty small faction of the fandom as a whole.

I really love Retatsu/Ryou as a cute little ship, and I've shipped rarepairs before, so I didn't mind it being small, especially with people like you making such great fanart and gifsets for it! And both the animes have great scenes of them I always loved to rewatch! Thank you for all the graphics you post! Your art is amazing and your gifs are so smooth!
(It really bums me out seeing other people lately go out of their way to hate on such a cute rarepair and accuse its shippers of "self-inserting" or not having good enough reasons to like it. :c It just feels so mean-spirited after I've loved this ship ever since I was a little girl to suddenly see people tear us down for no reason...)

Like you said.. it is a cute and little ship, I couldn't find better way to describe it <3 and for some of us, as you mentioned, it is something we grew up with, at least for me. It was my comfort ship and it is so nice to see that is getting more love these days, with new and old fans.
Unfortunately with more love on the web, I can assume it also comes more hate. It is not a word that I like to use, but it happens. (As I said I am not so into this kind of dynamic, I am just here to share art, not for the drama, but It is not a nice thing when you feel teared down).
As soon as something becomes more popular, (even a small ship like this one) the hate comes and, as you said, for no reason at all. It is not even a toxic ship, on the contrary, it speaks to out heart and teaches us about acceptance, encouragement and having more faith in ourselves. Not only romantically, we should always have someone who is there for us, or that at least tries to make feel us better.
Of course people can like a ship more or another, that is the beauty of shipping, there's enough ships for everyone :D
Well, I think it's up to us to keep the fandom more positive and to not let our ship sink XD so let's spread more love, art, gifs, anything that makes us happy! <3

lucy doesn't know who taylor is to buck. she wasn't aware that buck had a gf when she kissed him, so she was confused about why taylor came up to her and started warning her about buck out of nowhere, especially when until then she'd only known taylor as the reporter who was interested in her lucky catch in 5x14 😅
also the way that so many characters get to have a second chance in may day completely RUINS me. and may calling bobby her dad? that scene is permanently tattooed in my brain 🥺🥺

The idea of Claudia meeting a vampire of her own, out there, is nice, that I can adnit. Completely out of canon, but there's something to it. Still, I think I prefer the motivation of the book: Claudia is so tired of the abuse, of not knowing what's out there, of wanting Louis with her. "He's more like a dad"? Well, it ain't like that in the book. I like her being in love with him. I like them traveling together. I like her being eager for knowledge. This part of the story in the show? Totally not my thing. I still have some scenes in my imagination, the two riding a carriage, killing those brainless things/vampires, only meeting real ones in Paris. Claudia holding Louis' hand, trying to kiss him. Those two loving each other. Yeah, that would be a real jam.
Also, the fact that Bruce attacks her and tries to assault her. I keep thinking about what Armand said in the book, how he wouldn't turn that boy/slave of his even if he was in danger. Cause he's too young, wouldn't be able to protect himself. His body not fully grown. How he talked about "this child with you", and Claudia being stuck in a body of a freaking FIVE. YEAR. OLD.
I really like the idea of Claudia traveling with Louis better. But I'm afraid I have a very different picture in my mind than the show gives me. Something closer to the first movie. That'd be some picture. Need to rewatch the movie, definitely.

buckle in babes (gn), I have some things to say to the SPN fan community about NJCon, Misha Collins, and how we have to do better by each other FIRST.
So. I was recovering from a medical procedure over the weekend, and thus on Twitter a lot more than I normally ever am, and as such I had a front row seat to not only a lot of lovely New Jersey Con highlights, but also the various dramas: up to and including a bunch of folks coming out of a private meet & greet with Misha only to start dropping vague posts outright telling their fellow fans that they’re disgusting and horrible and deserving of shame for taking Misha’s earlier words at face value (”introvert, extrovert, bisexual...I’m all three” and YES this is a paraphrase for convenience, and yes I have the receipts of people being vague and awful) and being excited about them on social media. Essentially throwing fellow members of their community, many of whom are also queer, under the bus for celebrating someone we believed to be one of our own because the media happened to pick up the story & run it without fact-checking first--all of this without a shred of details or context, because of confidentiality that was paid for.
I’mma say it right now with my whole chest: it is absolutely not the responsibility of fans, individually or as a whole, that what Misha said in a public setting made it to media outlets with poor journalistic standards, and people who want to keep insisting it is can take several seats.
I saw people accusing each other of “speculation” re: Misha’s words despite the fact that it is healthy and normal etiquette in the queer community to believe someone when they openly trust you with information about their gender or sexuality, however jokey or casual they might be when they deliver it. I saw a lot of casual and not-so-casual biphobia in a sickly spectrum of forms, including from the mouths of fellow queer and bi people, and a lot of gatekeeping re: the concept of what “coming out” can and “should” look like.
I saw a lot of people hand-wringing over Misha’s mental well-being adjacent to the situation because the story blew up in a way that he likely hadn’t anticipated, and I get it. I’m a huge fan of the guy too! I follow his work closely, and I think he’s done a lot of good not only in the fandom but in the world! I think he’s a good person who made a pretty dumb misstep that he genuinely regrets, and I’m glad he’s holding himself accountable, because he did inadvertently hurt a lot of people with some careless words.
I was also extremely troubled by how many fans went out of their way to try and parasocially protect a wealthy white actor who has years of PR experience and deep enough knowledge of how active & vocal this overwhelmingly queer fandom can be to successfully mobilize us for charitable causes... while simultaneously stepping all over the feelings, mental health, and lived experiences of members of our fan community, who are arguably much closer to them than Misha Collins ever will be.
The tweets below are pretty much the only thing I said publicly about the situation until now, and I still stand wholeheartedly by everything I said because it’s still all true regardless of a person’s sexuality.
This is already well into TL;DR territory, but thanks for reading if you’re still with me because there’s a bit more.
And here it is: simply an urging to think long & hard about who makes up our community. About the people with whom we interact every day on our platforms of choice, about the people whose fic we read, whose art and gifsets and poems and podfic we enjoy. The people who consume them and share them and enjoy them. The people who run bangs and fests. The people who have the privilege to be able to afford cons, and who share their photos and videos for the rest of us to enjoy. The people who are our friends and acquaintances. The people who actually make up the blood and bone of what it means to participate in an online fandom regardless of what the actors and writers are doing.
We, pretty much as a rule, don’t always agree. We don’t always like each other. We’re in this for lots of different reasons. We meme and laugh and fight and block each other and curate our own personal fandom experiences, as well we should. But we’re the people that matter to each other, first and foremost, and we can’t fucking forget that in favour of kissing up to and clout-chasing celebrities who will ultimately never be able to speak our language to us the way we speak it to each other.
People are allowed to be angry about what happened, and hurt, and disappointed. People are allowed to be angry and hurt and disappointed by Misha’s actions in handling this event specifically, whether or not you personally like that, and while I think respect, kindness, and compassion should lead here as in most arenas, we also have to keep in mind that we don’t get to dictate how other people process those emotions JUST AS MUCH as we don’t get to dictate how other people come out...or don’t. That includes jokes. That includes grief over witnessing queerphobia from your own. That includes a loss of trust.
Yes, I hope Misha’s ok, but I hope my fellow fans are ok more. It’s not about whether Misha is bi or straight, not really, because this will blow over and that doesn’t actually matter in the end--it’s about us, and how we’ve treated each other that doesn’t sit right with me. You matter. We matter.
Fellow bi folk, you are awesome and deserving of love, community, and validation whether you are out or not. Nobody else gets to change that or decide that for you. ����💜💙 Please feel free to PM me if you feel like you are in need of support and don’t have anyone safe to talk to.

Although I will say, I have to respectfully disagree because I really think they DO give her that in the show! Thirteen has so much energy, but also so much anger - she just doesn't show it in front of her companions in s11 because she's desperately clinging to that mask of being this friendly, perfect hero who can show them all the good things in the universe, but she's just not that - and s12 and s13
are just showing the rather rapid progression of that mask cracking, until it falls apart completely. She's got such feral energy I swear, especially in every single scene with the Master - like I mean, there's that moment in the Timeless Children when she just

But also don't forget that like - that one scene when she opened up in this episode? When she spoke to Ryan and she ACTUALLY said how she was feeling...what did she say?
I'm angry.
And then of course @sapphichymns made that incredible gifset of every time thirteen snarls in s11 and s12 which is absolutely glorious and you should DEFINITELY check it out if you haven't seen it already.
BUT THEN IN S13 it continues!! Like just look at her FACE, and the way she MOVES - there's so much energy there!
Like I genuinely think Thirteen has so much anger, so much rage - and we know that Jodie Whittaker is intentionally putting that rage into her performance because she's spoken about it before, saying that rage comes from a really deep place...and hot damn I think you can really see it. This is the fury of an extremely dangerous, extremely ancient being who has been given so many terrifying names over the course of their many lives. Like I look at these scenes, these moments...and I can see the person who fought in the Time War, who can get completely consumed by their anger and do some really awful, messed up stuff. I can see the person who earned the title The Beast of Trenzalore...The Oncoming Storm...The Butcher of Skull Moon...
I don't really have much more to say...other than I have a lot of feelings about angry thirteen apparently HAHA (hence the art haha)
Also, as a side note, I don't think you were intentionally doing this, or even that you meant this (it's just how you came over to me - and I've had a lot of comments similar in the past so it bugged me haha) but you don't have to put down the show in order to compliment my work. There's a culture of 'comparative compliments' in fandom spaces, I think, where people feel the need to say negative things about one thing in order to compliment another (whether that be the source material or other fanwork)...which isn't necessary! The reason I draw fanart, after all, is because I really love the show, and I really love creating stuff with and for other people who love the show. Which is not to say we shouldn't criticise or critically analyse the show, or even that the show is perfect - I know it definitely isn't perfect. But I do love it a lot, and I get a lot of people trying to compliment my writing or my art by saying 'oh this is SO much better than the show' - and it actually really tires me out because my art and my writing comes from a place of a lot of joy and love - and so to say the thing that inspired me isn't any good, but my work is...feels like a backhanded compliment, to be honest. Please don't feel bad - I'm so happy you liked my artwork, and that you wanted to tell me so, it's lovely! But it's something that has been bugging me for a while, so this was just a good opportunity to talk about it. So please just bear that in mind <3

YEAH EXACTLY LIKEDKSDFJ guess what? you don't have to watch or engage with this show if it's gonna make you this mad???? and exactly that too, chief takes his helmet off a bunch... i made a post once saying that the silver timeline john HAS to take his helmet off because that is how we as an audience can understand him as a character! just like mando from the mandalorian, he keeps his helmet on most of the time BUT we have to have moment like him taking his helmet off in order to feel what he is feeling, the same goes for john! and i also said that, this john will be different that main canon john because he isn't a blank slate here where the consumer can put themselves in his shoes, they have to give him a personality so he won't be a boring character (which is why they made him tell dad jokes or have sympathy for kwan!), this is the john the games don't show and i am glad we get to see his character fleshed out!!!! (sorry for the rambling, i just love john and how the halo is portraying him!! and you're welcome!!! i adore your gifsets so much <3)
i think a lot of people just went into the show intending to hate it no matter what. i can understand some people have legitimate criticism, but most of the negativity i've seen has clearly been from people who've only played the games and nothing more.
a good comparison i saw someone make saying that the show is following in halo 4's footsteps of exploring john's humanity under the armour. the contrast between the start of the episode with the insurrectionists saying that Spartans aren't human against him removing his armour to reveal that he is just a person underneath it all is part of why i think the scene worked so well.
i also get that some people thought seeing his face was jarring - i mean even i was a little shocked about it at first (even though i already knew they were going to do it) - but it's just because we're so used to seeing chief as a suit of armour. there's no reason he can't take his helmet off more often like he does in the extended universe, even though i doubt we'll ever see his face in the games.
also i'm surprised that some people don't seem to think pablo looks "like" chief... what exactly were they expecting? i always thought pablo was a good choice in terms of his physical appearance. he looks like an older version of how john appears in animation or the comics:
so yeah, i knew there was going to be a lot of outcry about the show because of moments like these, but at the end of the day it's just an adaptation - and there are plenty of other video game adaptations which changed a hell of a lot more compared to the games they're based on. but for me personally, i think the show is off to a good start. and thank you again for the lovely asks 😊

my god i am holleringgggg on the damn floorrrrrr!!!!! (pleaseeeee someone make a gifset of shockeed! heedo in the men's bathroom, heard it lengthens life expectancy) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 writers really said let's give them a respite before the real breakup arc begins. ok i am ok with that, i am super okay actually that i get to see some really fluffy moments in this ep, some good tension that can lead to something more significant (👀) in the future, and yes....some sad yet relatable moments...you know...as a member of the proletariat.
i went into this episode with the assumption that i would be kind of awkward when yijin fucking licked that ice cream in front of highschooler heedo lol but what the hell the countless times i pulled my hair because of the giddiness i felt for the YiDo moments ahhhhhhhhh (i can't get behind YiHe sorry 😞😂) heedo's cuteness is out of this world!!!! she is having a crush!!!! and she is conflicted!!!!! and it's making her insane!!!!(more than her usual amount of insanity to be specific) but i have to admire heedo's determination in crossing out every face in daeun's section just to see daeun's face who unfortunately for heedo is inspireed by sadako. we need to protect this cinnamon roll!!!! and yijin really sees her as his personal entertainer, huh? i meant the good kind, the kind where you say shit like "i DoNt nEeD a rAiNb0w" (me continuing that statement: "bEcAuSE u ArE mY rAinB0W...) good goddd i am crazy over these two fools!!!!! i am losing my mind over heedo losing her mind in the next episodeeeeee ahhhhhhhh ahahhahahahshhahahhahaha. however, on a serious note, i think that heedo's the only one crushing hard...good...good...good..... (wow icb im saying these things when ive done some crazier shit when i was 19 🤡)

heedo's mom is insufferable and maybe that's an understatement still. how is she like that???? how does she sleep at night knowing she hurts her daughter's feelings often and once crushed her friend's heart? and she kicked yijin???? but later told heedo that that was a good call?!!!!! maam????!!! we need to get you to a mental hospital, i think. my god the parents of boomers' (omg heedo and yijin can pass as a boomer today lolllll. i mean probably they are generation x but still 🤣) today really have it hard to be doing shits like that. correcting the mistakes of your subordinates is okay but physically assaulting them is not. jeezusssss. she's probably the character i don't like the most in this show. great acting but i hate what her character largely represents.
anyway, i reallllllllllly love seungwan's character. i think she's my most favorite sans the leads. maybe i see myself in her. we have several similarities after all. keep doing u girl! i hope she gets to have some BAMF moment in the future like dismantling capitalism. oh too big? maybe advocating for the compulsory therapy of mothers and mothers-to-be instead lollllll
literally net zero information about min chae's father. it's not like i expected her to say "im so glad father took mother's side" because that would end the intrigueeee. im also here for the intrigue ngl 😭 but like can they give us hintssss to work withhhh? her father quarantining is a solid one but we need moreeeee. or did they alreadyyy.... and i am too dumb to realize it? 💀

I don't know how anyone can get invested in the story/characters in campaign 3 when the cast has proven they are willing to rewrite history. I mean, if someone likes La/udna and Im/ogens dynamic, that's great. But how can you get invested in that dynamic when after 100 episodes those characters might just stop talking to each other for literally no reason? They've literally done exactly that before.
Very good point, anon. And I’m glad you brought this up, because I have a rant to go on...
It’s really bothered me how I’ve seen some fellow Beaujester shippers so easily and so quickly crawl right back into CR’s clutches just because of Im/odna. Both on here and on Twitter, these people were lampooning post-hiatus CR just as vigorously as the rest of us, saying stuff like, “I can’t take them seriously.” “I don’t trust them anymore.” “Can’t stand watching it now.” and so on.
But now, a lot of those same people have jumped onto C3, despite claiming that they would avoid it. Making/reblogging meta posts, gifsets, art, and clipping ‘moments’. And what I deem to be the most egregious act... still giving their money to CR. A lot of them are still buying merch left and right.
If CR burned you so badly, why are you doing this? How did they so easily capture you again?
And I’ve even heard some people go so far as to say they think that Marisha and Laura came up with this dynamic for their new characters because they’re ‘making up for’ what happened with Beaujester in C2.
If true, I would find that hilarious because 1) they seemed so adamant about pussyfooting around the OBVIOUS fact of Beaujester interactions evaporating and vehemently acting like nothing was amiss, so it would mean they’re admitting to how fucked up the end of C2 was, and 2) so many of the hardcore CR stans keep telling the rest of us that “The cast doesn’t care what fans say! They play the way they want to play! They would never change anything for anybody! You’re delusional if you think they would!”, yet this would show that they actually do pay attention to what fans say. That there is a chance that they might have taken it in to such a degree, that it actually galvanized Marisha and Laura to do something significant with each other’s characters in C3.
And so you end up with the Im/odna dynamic, which seems to have some suspicious similarities to Beaujester’s. They also made sure that their characters already had a long and solid friendship before the campaign (2 years as opposed to 1 day).
Even I have to admit that this set-up might not be a coincidence.
However, (and it’s a big however) for the question of: have Marisha and Laura actually planned this from the beginning to eventually turn it into a romance? The jury’s still out.
I think there’s no truly solid evidence that they would take it there. And to be perfectly honest, being a Beaujester shipper and seeing the shit they pulled (in real time) in C2, I wouldn’t trust them with anything romance-related.
Are they actually laying the foundation of a slow-burn romance, or are they just fucking around? I don’t know. You can’t really tell.
Which is a big reason as to why I am NOT giving, and do not WANT to give C3 any of my attention or energy. I’ve made it pretty clear that I’ve come across things about it (which is how I know the smallest tidbits about Im/odna), but I’m not actively watching and investing in it.
I will say, that in coming across those things, I’ve seen people talk so earnestly about this dynamic and the reasons behind it, that it makes me feel bad for them.
Because, what if you’re setting yourselves up again? You’re gonna have a bunch of BY’s, who have actively been rooting against it, rubbing it in your faces. Just because there’s a subsection of BY’s that are shipping it along with you, doesn’t change the fact that there is a larger portion that want to see La/udna and Im/ogen turn out to be sisters JUST to spite you.
If Im/odna is never canonized, they will absolutely be assholes about it. Again. And you will be devastated. Again.
So not only will you have Marisha and Laura playing stupid fucking games with the fandom, but you’ll have fandom assholes jumping you over it. (‘Cause apparently, to BY’s, bullying is just fine, as long as it’s not happening to the cast.)
In conclusion, after the total shit-show that was C2, I don’t trust them. And neither should you. It doesn’t matter how ‘cute’ their characters are being with each other. I don’t trust Marisha, I don’t trust Laura, I don’t trust anyone in the cast. (Except maybe Taliesin. He doesn’t poke the bear, he doesn’t push buttons, he doesn’t play mind games - at least when it comes to relationships.) But everybody else likes to fuck around a bit TOO MUCH.
If you want to ship Im/odna, do it. More power to ya. Have fun. Enjoy.
But don’t invest too deeply. Remind yourselves that you can’t TRUST this cast to follow through with what you think they’re setting up. It’s happened before, it can happen again.
I’m not exaggerating, I’m not overreacting, I’m not concern-trolling, and I’m not being a wet blanket. I’m being realistic. And I think the rest of you are being a little naive.
(I decided to put this in the Beaujester tag. I know there are Beaujesters that ship Im/odna, that still occasionally scroll this tag. And I’d like them to read this because I need them to keep some perspective.)
