#malcolm in the middle #malcolm wilkerson #needed an ep where malcolm joins the GSA and hal spends the whole episode worried his son is gay and trying to get him to do ‘straight #things’#none of the rest of the family thinks its a big deal at all because they have their own subplots (reese and dewey are scamming students #by starting an ambiguous political revolution on the block so teenagers feel like they have a cause to rebel against #and lois is dealing with an annoying recurring customer at lucky aide who does something very specifically irritating and she has escalated #the situation into full blown archenemy territory #so hal is trying to get his son to do manly things all episode but malcolm is busy doing stuff for the GSA and hal is getting more and #more freaked out only to walk outside one day and see malcolm playing basketball with some kids in the driveway and hes satisfied with this #after hal walks away its revealed malcolm is playing with two guys from the GSA who have to leave for their date #and its never revealed why malcolm joined the GSA

man people REALLY can't tell when larian is full on joking in their patch notes, huh? the gale thing was a legitimate bug and people are crying that they changed him as they did lae'zel. reading comprehension these days is abysmal.

I can't be surprised, though, because back when astarion's kiss animation was bugged, I saw discussions that it was "suspicious" that his kiss animation wasn't bugged for the default guy body, but was bugged for the default gal body. you know, as if larian somehow fucked up their own game's code on purpose, specifically to slight women who want to romance a canonically bisexual man that has flirtatious dialogue with the lady companions regardless of your tav's interest in him. totally checks out.

the complaints about changing lae'zel are entirely valid and I agree that her personality should not be toned down to appeal to the delicate sensibilities of the heterosexual man. I'm fairly certain that lae'zel's change was actually the only one that intentionally altered a companion's dialogue to be less abrasive. the alleged change to shart was also a bug fix, not an attempt to alter her character, if I remember correctly.

but by all means, let's accuse the devs of "ruining the game" every time they improve it. even better, let's all campaign for the addition of another romance! solely so that we can have sex with a popular NPC! rather than, oh I don't know, putting more pressure on them to add more material to the stories of wyll & karlach!

I swear, some people really do NOT know what it feels like to play a game where the devs truly and honestly are not listening to the playerbase...or where it takes literal YEARS for them to respond to even a fraction of the players' reasonable concerns & feedback.

But what if Hal found Post Resurrection/Pre Pit Jason. Like fresh out of his grave Jason. Not to be strict with any timeliness, but maybe after coming back from the dead Hal makes it a point to visit the Graves of lost loved ones and he has someone in Gotham and it's the worst horror show he can think of when the grave across the way is suddenly bursting open and someone is crawling out of it.

This someone is crying and Hal us a sucker for tears so he eventually gets himself together and good thing he does cuz this someone is a kid, and this kid is hurt. God someone beat this kid and buried him alive. Fucking Gotham

Hal doesn't stick around. He grabs the kid and bundles him up in the passenger seat of his car and takes off. It's pretty clear on the car ride that the kid isn't really aware. There's blood on his knuckles and his fingers are torn to shreds, from breaking out of a coffin wtf. There are no words, just whimpering and crying.

He asks the kid what happened, who did this to him and the kid just keeps crying and curling up in the seat but he's pretty sure he hears a soft, broken Dad through the tears.

Hal leaves Gotham.

The place fucking sucks and he's not about to leave this kid with the goddamned Bat. Fuck that guy and his fucking city.

It's still dark and raining when he gets home so no one sees him drag some shrimpy kid in a filthy suit into his apartment. That's too many questions he couldn't answer so thank god.

Getting the suit off him is the worst thing Hal's ever done he's sure. The kid isn't crying anymore but the dead glassy eyed look is definitely worse. The jacket snags on his jagged, ruined fingertips making them bleed again but there's no reaction. He almost throws up when he opens the shirt. There's deep bruising and small jagged cuts, but that's nothing compared to the huge fucking Y incision that spans his entire torso. The cut looks deep. Thick dark thread keeps it closed but the skin around it is bright red and puffy.

Someone tortured and vivisected and buried this kid alive in the middle of Gotham.

A hospital wasn't gonna help him. Or they would but then whoever did this to him would eventually find out he was alive. And what if they couldn't. What if he died after being a fucking survivor. He wasn't responding anymore and really who could blame him. This shit was traumatic as fuck. No matter what Hal asked him all he got was a dead eyed stare. He washed himself just fine and he got dressed into the clothes Hal handed him, black sweats and a big red hoodie he never wore, but other than that there was nothing.

Hal was not equipped to handle this. Hal had his own trauma he wasn't equipped to handle, there was no way he could add someone else's. But the kid was there. Staring off into space, silent tears running down his face every once in a while. His broken fingers twitched and his steps were unsteady when he moved. There was a huge Harry Potter looking scar on his forehead that ran up into his hairline and the hair around it was pure, bright white.

Hal had no idea what to do with him.

His ring beeped.

I still cry about it to this day

I feel that every time I'm reminded of this, I spiral with Hal always saying how he has nothing to lose when really in moments like these he loses everything, and the reaction to it is insane.

This makes me want to bring up a lot of topics about death, losing someone who is loved personally, and what grief does to someone. How it is portrayed here... How Hal handles death throughout his whole life, depending on who passes is a whole different story. And that he could be an extremely sacrificial person who would do anything for the people he loved even if it meant something he was at both his lowest points and one of the most vulnerable points of his life. (This goes for both Barry and Hal. They do anything...ANYTHING...for the people they love.) We even had the time Barry turned into Parallax partially from the parasite, and just gleaming to Hal about the biggest fear is losing someone he loves which is so backhanded to Hal...let me tell you...

(hashtag pulling up cassiegirlwonders saying that Barry is one of Hal's strongest connections to humanity. THAT sticks in my mind.) How much Hal had the idea of saving Barry when he saved Ollie too? What dangerous possibilities would be pulled after Barry's death for Hal should be covered more...
