Star Trek (almost) lost media saved!
Have you heard about The Official Star Trek Cooking Manual (1978)? Written from the perspective of Nurse Chapel, it includes recipes from different Earth cultures, as well as Vulcan, Klingon and Romulan recipes, which are some of the earliest examples of words in these languages in the franchise and an interesting attempt to expand the canon.
The book has been out of print for almost forty five years. To my knowledge, it has never been scanned, and no luck locating it in physical libraries either. And with the current Amazon listing for a second hand copy going for about $100, it seemed destined to go unarchived and become lost media very soon.
However, this has all just changed! A fellow Tumblr user has very kindly scanned and uploaded the whole thing! You can now read the book here:
https://anonfiles.com/5b80m863y0/Star_Trek_Cooking_Manual_1978_pdf
And a backup is on Z Lib as well!
You can go read it right now! And let us know if you end up cooking anything 🖖

Star Trek ask post: 🌀 & 🍽️
As I've already mentioned, a recreation of our contemporary life and the Roman empire would be fascinating - mainly to work out what made it so successful and what went wrong lol. Social history is a hobby of mine lol
Alien food - I think Vulcan 🖖(plomeek soup especially intrigues me) also I'd love to find out what syrup of squill is like 🍯

comparing tastes
the alien i found in the cave tasted different from these aliens in the ship. Not too different. The first had a slight fishy flavor. Kind of like cod.

Trying out something new—let me know if you think it’s worth continuing!
10. Cricket
Cultural differences. Obi-Wan puts it all down to cultural differences.
CRUNCH.
Doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a morbid fascination with it, though.
CRUNCH.
“Anakin.”
“Mmmrph.” CRUNCH-CRUNCH-CRUNCH-CRUNCH—
“Are you actually eating that?”
GULP. “…yeah?”
One thing that is not commonly known about Togrutas is that when they’re trying not to coo, it comes off as less of a squeak and more of a chirp. Kiffars, on the other hand, grunt in a slow buildup to mirth.
Obi-Wan knows Shaak and Quinn are right behind him, and he is absolutely determined not to care.
He clears his throat. “Well…very good. Carry on.”
“You want some? They taste better with the stingers, but you can pinch them off if you—”
That’s apparently too much for Quinlan, who bursts out laughing at the look on Obi-Wan’s face.
Shaak looks down from her (frankly annoyingly) regal height and tries to muffle her chirping.
“Come on, Obi,” says Quinn. “Just a little one. Cultural differences, am I right?”
The urge to go after Quinlan Vos with a heavy piece of wood is uncivilized, and so Obi-Wan (regretfully) lets it go into the Force.
“Thank you, Padawan, but I don’t think I’d be able to enjoy it just now.”
“Oh.” His ten-year-old looks mildly disappointed. Obi-Wan manages not to feel too guilty.
“Not to worry, Anakin,” says Shaak, with a wide grin that reminds Obi-Wan quite suddenly that Togruta are, in fact, apex predators. “I always get a few myself. I wouldn’t mind sharing them with you and your master, if you’d like.”
Obi-Wan notices the very slight flinch when Anakin hears him referred to as master, but that’s all but forgotten in the light of his making a new friend. “Really?”
“Of course!”
“Wizard.”
Why. Just…why.
Part of Anakin’s lunch tries to hop away, but Quinlan catches the little purple thing and pops it in his mouth.
“Hey!”
“Hmmmm.” CRUNCH. “Hey, you were right, kid! The stinger really packs a punch! Obi, you have got to try this—”
And that’s how Obi-Wan Kenobi ate his first bug.

For the Star Trek asks, number 6 please! “What Star Trek food or drink do you wish you could try?”
Nice one, @lindsaybob!
I'd like to start with a slider of blue or green uncarbonated ale from around the galaxy, together with a sample of the corresponding bar table snack. Romulans, Andorians and Orions all serve ale (always ale!) in Kölsch sized shot glasses and I want to know what the fuss is about.
With that, I'd like to get a meal featuring Cardassian yamok sauce, and really hope that I end up with their version of bbq ribs.
Of course you need potatoes with your meat (that's what she said!), and I want Earth potatoes. Waxy, not mushy. All those colourful Andean varieties you can't get in Europe. Or maybe just some boring European ones, either is fine. Potatoes.
For a side salad, Vulcan would be the logical choice. Since fanon likes making Vulcan food either unbearably spicy or unbearably bland, I'm going with an unauthentic Earth-fusion cuisine version, but with ~weird alien textures.~
For dessert I'll have a jumja stick from that one stall on DS9. It was the first Bajoran business back on the station after the occupation and that stall stayed there throughout the series, so I can only assume it was an absolute hit with Bajorans, Cardassians, Humans, and whoever else came through.
After dinner it's time for a coffee, and I'm curious to see what the Italians are doing with Raktajino.
