Mizuki and Date though like. Imagine being 8 and your parents are filthy rich and going through a bad divorce. Your mom treats you like shit, lashing out at you, hitting you, saying she wishes you were never born all because you were behaving like a child. Your dad is more comforting, but he doesn’t do anything to stop the abuse and he spends his time invested in a completely different family, a girl who you love and look up to but he loves her more than you and it fucking shows. Then your dads new friend, some fucking bachelor in his late 20s, is just like "wow you guys are the worst fucking parents ive ever seen" and next thing you know your dad is sending you off to live with him. And it’s just a massive kick in the head cuz you go from a rich lifestyle to living in some really shitty tiny ass apartment with this guy who’s clearly never been around a child in his entire life and he doesn’t know how to behave and does a really bad job of censoring himself like he has a bunch of dirty magazines that he can’t hide very well cuz it’s literally a studio apartment and also he talks to himself sometimes, it’s really weird. He doesn’t even have the slightest clue what he’s doing

And he’s the best parent you’ve ever had

Because fuck, it all really hurts. You have to cope with having never received any love from anyone, and with the fact that your parents clearly don’t want you and can’t even be bothered to send you with anyone even kinda responsible. And this guy has a scary job with crazy hours and you don’t know anything about him and neither does he. But still, he never once hits you or tells you you’re not allowed to cry. He just gives you space and doesn’t push you to feel any sort of way about him. And sometimes, he’s even kind. He makes you some stew, even though it’s a bit chunky. He lets you sleep in the bed and takes the couch for himself, even though he complains about the massive back pain he’d never trade his spot for a second. He pays attention to events at your school and gives you your favorite stuffed animal when you make good grades, even though you called it ugly. He gets worried sick when you come home with bruises and puts on a goofy voice and trains you to defend yourself and you develop some highly deadly skills and even though it’s really abnormal, he buys you a bench press so you can get stronger. There’s this distance there, and you feel really weird caring about someone who you aren’t related to, but you find yourself wishing it was meant to be like this all along, that maybe, he’s secretly your real dad and he loves you like his real daughter

ADKJGFJGJDKJGF OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! 😭😭😭 Yeah the whole AI-stuff seems very grim and depressing, but luckily I see more and more conventions, corporations and publishers putting a stop to it by not accepting any AI-generated work and I'm sure more companies will follow this motion and update their guidelines accordingly, for only "human-made" work to be accepted.

I don't say much on the topic because I just don't like to put my attention to it, so this will be my only comment on the subjet, but I absolutely applaud all those who are actively fighting against it, because it's definitely a necessary fight against art theft and to make sure there are guidelines being created to handle this new technology. We can't make it disappear, but we can set up rules and give it proper management.

This may sound naive but I am actually very optimistic that this will be handled and settled in a couple of months. Or maybe a year or two. I don't think AI can replace artists in any way. Because in the end, artists are not a hivemind you can study and simply copy and paste, because every artist is an individual. They're all unique with their own minds, their own styles, their own ideas and concepts and every single person brings something new to the table.

Sure, AI can steal and copy a person's art style. But they cannot copy what's inside your mind. They cannot predict you. They can just copy what you have already created, but its YOU who came up with it. And if you're a comic artist or a storyteller of any kid, they'll never be able to tell YOUR stories.

They'll never replace you because they cannot be you. Nobody can be you. Only you can be you. And that's why you'll never lose your worth, because nobody can create the things you create in YOUR way. Don't let the outside world tell you otherwise. You are so worthy just for being here. You bring so much joy just for being and sharing what's on your mind. Don't let anyone make you feel like you're replacable, because you're not. So thank you for being here too! :DD

A Temporary Lie: Arch IV of my Space Junk AU!

These are just some doodles I made for the designs of the current characters (Urania, Zim, Red and Pur) and the picture for the new playlist. I still need to write about its plot on the main post but I will probably update it this weekend. For now I’ll just leave the playlist here.

I think I truly wanted to put this AU variation as part of the main one, but I was always like “Idk if everyone else would like this plot twist in the AU”. Now I’m just like “Fuck it. It’s MY AU and I’ll do whatever the fuck I want with it”.

The story about this chapter is practically the same as the last time I wrote about it (link here). However, I will add more plot stuff once I make the new update on the main AU post.

I'm happy I made this decision for my AU and I hope I can bring content about it soon!

IT WAS SO FUN!!#AND I HAD THE MOST BLISSFUL GAMING EXPERIENCE BECAUSE I HAD A BUG WITH MY GAME WHERE I COULDNT HEAR ANYONE AND NO ONE COULD HEAR ME #Probably pissed off my teammates numerous times but well . At least got to exclusively vc with my friends on discord #i think the thing with lethal company (and by extension amogus which is also smth i associate lc with) is that you can play it exclusively #with your buddies. you dont have to join some random ass lobby with random ass people just because the game needs 20 players. U can just #have actual fun. because yes proxy vc is a fun feature for a game but i am seriously grateful that scpsl was bugged for me #i’ve played a lot of ‘shooter’ games (or just games similar to genre) and like Sure im used to people being jerks in game chat or something #but there’s a difference between game chat and straigjt up vc ….. so yeah. i know that it’s barely scpsl’s fault but i just felt like sayin #all that. Sometimes putting a bunch of characters in a group and hoping for the best is extremely boring and full of conversations that make no sense.

And other times Scott asks Heather out just to get "shot down faster than a fly swatter" (his words not mine), then everyone starts having a debate on whatever or not Duncan is truly a jerk or just misunderstood which results in Cody and Gwen getting together with Courtney trying to pull Gwen away from Cody just for Scott to say 'nope' and put himself in front of Gwen and Cody like a human shield to protect their love from Courtney.

Genuinely don't want to get too deep into the whole AI art controversy because - as I mentioned in the tags of that post I reblogged before - I'm personally familiar with the issue in that I build AI as part of my job, but I'm not personally familiar with the issue in that I am not someone who relies on making art to survive (I do art as a hobby but obviously the artists who have more to fear from the development of AI like this are the ones who, you know, do it for a living).

I definitely see why people are concerned and in general I'd say this issue plays into the wider issue of "what happens if a robot/AI/etc takes my job" which is, I suppose, something we as a society have been facing since... the Industrial Revolution? Thereabouts? And it's not my place to speak on that since I haven't done thorough research on the matter, but I certainly understand the concern - hell, there already exist AIs that can write working code, for all I know my job could be at risk one day.

That being said, on a professional level I'm irked at the person who wrote "AI IS EVIL" in the notes of a post on the matter that I saw.

AI is a tool, my dude. Nothing more, nothing less. Whether it's used for good or evil depends wholly on the people who make it and the people who use it.

#I'm not that surprised by that outlook cause most of the AI we hear about nowadays is in fact being used for evil #like. you know. basically every aspect of most social media AI #but an anomaly detection algorithm that monitors your bank account and alerts you of an out-of-the-ordinary transaction that may be fraud?#as long as the data it gathers on my bank account isn't being used for anything else or sold to anyone I'm ok with that #like - your transaction history is fully recorded anyway #that's not gonna change and the presence or absence of AI will not prevent the bank from using that data #for whatever purposes it might have #do I want that data fed into advertisers' algorithms so they can tell what sort of stuff I like to buy?#of course not #but if that were to happen it'd be a problem with the PEOPLE who chose to use + sell my data not a problem with the existence of AI itself #a hammer is not a bad thing just because someone can use it to bash a person's head in #anyhow truth be told that's just my pet peeve and this is just a vent post #not gonna try and go after that person or anything because they have a right to be concerned + upset and I don't wanna be a jerk #just venting my professional annoyance

I’m wondering: are you at all planning on getting your fics off of ff.net and locking them to user only on ao3? I’ve seen a lot of writers do that in lieu of the evil evil robot overlords; le AI, since locking them to user only prevents scraping and stuff.

Honestly? I hadn't considered it before, no. I didn't even know other authors were doing that until you mentioned it. But truthfully, I probably won't.

It's just...not too big a deal for me? I guess? The idea of my stuff being copied/taken by an AI and their behind-the-scenes puppet masters is funny to me more than anything. My fics are either hit or miss, and the more popular ones seem to be good enough that I'm sure someone would tell me if they saw a doppelganger or funhouse mirror version of it somewhere. Not to mention my sporadic update rate. Anyone planning on copying from me is in for a bit of a rude awakening, ahaha. And if the intent is to scrap it? I was around for the big FF.Net purge way back when, and I've seen a few fanfic sites come and go over the years. So, even if I hadn't already been in the habit of saving my stories externally from the sites I post them on, it's well ingrained at this point. If any of my fics ever got deleted, I'd just post them again. I've already republished two of my older Lunaescence fics that got lost in the void of the internet, so while doing it with other fics would be annoying, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Would I be sad to lose all the reviews/kudos/likes they'd collected? Of course. I really enjoy getting feedback from all of my readers, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't constantly reread them (they give me boosts in serotonin/motivation). But in the end, I think the most important part for me is that everyone can enjoy what I write without restrictions, even something as simple as AO3's user lock. I just have to trust that it'll work out.
