I’m wondering: are you at all planning on getting your fics off of ff.net and locking them to user only on ao3? I’ve seen a lot of writers do that in lieu of the evil evil robot overlords; le AI, since locking them to user only prevents scraping and stuff.
Honestly? I hadn't considered it before, no. I didn't even know other authors were doing that until you mentioned it. But truthfully, I probably won't.
It's just...not too big a deal for me? I guess? The idea of my stuff being copied/taken by an AI and their behind-the-scenes puppet masters is funny to me more than anything. My fics are either hit or miss, and the more popular ones seem to be good enough that I'm sure someone would tell me if they saw a doppelganger or funhouse mirror version of it somewhere. Not to mention my sporadic update rate. Anyone planning on copying from me is in for a bit of a rude awakening, ahaha. And if the intent is to scrap it? I was around for the big FF.Net purge way back when, and I've seen a few fanfic sites come and go over the years. So, even if I hadn't already been in the habit of saving my stories externally from the sites I post them on, it's well ingrained at this point. If any of my fics ever got deleted, I'd just post them again. I've already republished two of my older Lunaescence fics that got lost in the void of the internet, so while doing it with other fics would be annoying, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Would I be sad to lose all the reviews/kudos/likes they'd collected? Of course. I really enjoy getting feedback from all of my readers, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't constantly reread them (they give me boosts in serotonin/motivation). But in the end, I think the most important part for me is that everyone can enjoy what I write without restrictions, even something as simple as AO3's user lock. I just have to trust that it'll work out.

Tommy didn’t ask you to walk with him to the canal to meet up with Curly. You didn’t ask to come along. As Tommy said, this was something he needed to do by himself. However, it wouldn’t mean that you weren’t going to worry about him until he safely returned.
One thing you still have trouble contemplating was how much your relationship with Tommy had changed in such a short amount of time.  The man used to ignore you to now having sex with you regularly. It was such a fast switch of behavior that you didn’t quite know where it came from. Whenever Tommy was around, you never gave this view much thought or interest, mostly because you were so preoccupied with Tommy that he took up a lot of your attention.
Now with him gone, it allowed you room and time to think things through if Tommy was, in fact, “the one” or not. However, you could not deny your feelings for the man that continued to grow each day you were with him. Tommy made your heart flutter that no other man had been able to accomplish.
You didn’t have too much time to think things over as Esme had arrived with the kids. You let them inside while finished making the lunch packs for the trip.
The kids rallied around you, yelping and begging for treats. “Oi! Settle down, or we won’t be going to no fair!” Esme yelled to the kids, who immediately quieted down.
You laughed while pulling out a tin with biscuits and gave each child a piece. “You lot are lucky she spoils all of you,” Esme said, pointing to each child. “So, I guess Tommy told you to be on your best behavior and not make trouble?” asked Esme, and when you nodded your head, she scoffed. “The same spiel John gave me. Those men have a lot of nerve telling us not to get into trouble.”
“Oh, trust me, then know. It won’t stop them from doing it. Okay, I think I have everything we need. We can head out. Johnny Dogs said he would meet us outside of The Garrison,” you instructed and handed one of the kids the basket with the lunch packs and other items for the road.
The ride to the fair went by fast, thanks to Johnny telling stories the entire way. You could tell Johnny was a good guy. He was a loyal friend to Tommy and appeared to get along with everyone. Johnny appeared not to be a part of one clan but multiple clans. He had the ability to integrate from one to another.
Born in Northern Ireland to a family of Irish travelers, John had befriended Tommy when they were younger. It was only when Tommy, Arthur, and John headed off to France during the War that he joined the Lee gang. You were surprised to find out that it was Johnny who presided over John and Esme’s wedding. You were equally surprised to find out that Esme and John's marriage was not a love marriage. It was arranged by Tommy and the Lees to bring both families together as they were close to being in a war with one another. All in all, you liked the man.
The wagon came to a sudden halt. “We are here!” exclaimed Johnny excitedly.
You looked out to see other wagons all lined up with people spread out in the field. There was music already being played, children running around happily, and the smell of food was exquisite. This is what you had been missing while being in Small Heath. The freedom that comes with traveling, not having to answer to anyone, living off the land, and making do with what you have. Overall, it was the sense of community that you missed the most, of being around others like you. It was one of the reasons why you became so attached to Esme. She understood while others couldn’t. Not even Tommy could understand your feelings of homesickness or why you missed traveling. He tried, but it was not something he would ever understand.
Sometimes you got the sense that Tommy was someone who tended to downplay his roots. You knew his goal of gaining power within the upper hierarchy of British society. You knew the upper crest looked down on those with working-class backgrounds and could only imagine what they thought of those with Romani blood.
While Johnny tended to the horses, you walked around with Esme and the kids. There were fortune tellers, palm readers, stalls selling jewelry, clothing, or farming tools, and an array of other horse-related items for sale. Esme got each of the kids some food and told them to bugger off and not get into trouble.
“Fancy having your fortune told?” you teased Esme, who merely rolled her eyes.
“Charlatans, all of them. They’ll only tell you what you want to hear. I was told I would marry a man who was tall, dark, and handsome. That he would be my soulmate, my other half, all that bullshit these old birds tell ya,” Esme ranted off.
“John’s tall, blond, and handsome. You may have gotten together under the not-so-normal circumstance, but you both love each other very much. Right?”
But Esme shrugged. “So, I take it the honeymoon stage is over?” you asked her.
With a sigh, Esme turned towards you, “John, I don’t know; he doesn’t talk to me about anything. He keeps things to himself, especially with what happened during the War. He has nightmares, you know.”
“Yeah, I figured all of the Shelby brothers have their inner demons from the War. It is the same with Tommy. He doesn’t share much either, but I can’t force him. All I can do is be there for him. That is what you are going to have to do with John. The Shelby’s are an unusual bunch. One we aren’t used to or have experienced before. It is as if they have this need to better themselves and to prove that they are worthy. We don’t have that need. We are happy with what we have and where we come from. No amount of money or materialistic things are going to change who we are,” you elaborated to Esme.
She seemed to consider what you were saying. “I need a drink,” was all Esme said and linked her arm with yours.
The two of you sat under a tree with a drink in hand, sharing a plate of food and passing a joint. Esme seemed to be in a lighter mood than before, thanks to the alcohol and cannabis.
When Esme said your name, you looked over at the brunette. “What?” you asked.
“I meant to ask you this for some time. How is Tommy in bed?”
You could feel the heat on your face. Stifling a smile, you hid your face with your hand to hide your blushing. Soon, you turned into a fit of giggles.
“Come one, now!” yelled Esme smiling. “Don’t get all prudent on me! How is the King of Birmingham in the sack?”
When you were able to compose yourself, you answered, “He is amazing. I don’t know how else to describe being with him. He just…I have never felt like this with any other person. The way he knows my body. It’s like he knows what makes me tick. He knows how to bring me over the edge and back again. It’s an amazing feeling.”
“Must be nice,” was all Esme said and took a drag of the joint.
You looked over at your friend. There was a hint of sadness in her eyes. You couldn’t imagine being in her position. You wouldn’t want to be in a marriage that was arranged by your older brother only to stop a war starting between two rival families. That is bound to create a marriage of convenience rather than love. Your parents were a love match, and it showed. That is what you wanted.
Was Tommy the one for you? You didn’t know, but he was the one for you at the moment.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, Tommy returned from London safe and sound. From what you heard from Polly, Tommy’s meeting with Alfie Solomons went well. The leader of the Jewish gang had agreed to align with the Peaky Blinders to take down Sabini. Tommy spent most of his time at Shelby Company Limited, so you didn’t see him too often. This surprised you, but you tried your best to think nothing of it. However, after the first couple of days Tommy got back home, he maintained his distance from you, especially in public.
You stopped by his office one day during your break. You wanted to check on him to see how he was doing. Spotting Lizzie at her desk, you asked if Tommy was in. Not even bothering to look at you, she said he was busy.
“Can you please tell Tommy that I need to talk to him?” you practically pleaded to Lizzie.
You understood the newly appointed secretary’s animosity towards you. She liked Tommy and hated that you had his attention. Lizzie treated Esme the same way now that John was married. You and Esme had the men Lizzie wanted or could have had.
Before you turned to leave, Tommy walked out of his office. He looked at you and waved you inside. “Ms. Stark, please don’t allow any visitors to interrupt my meeting with Ms. Young,” he ordered.
You walked into Tommy’s office, and he guided you to a chair. He asked if you wanted a drink.
“No, I can’t stay long. I only wanted to see how you were doing. I haven’t seen you much since you returned from your trip. Your bruises look like they have healed nicely,” you noted as Tommy sat down in the chair across from you.
He took a swig of his whiskey and pulled out a cigarette. You declined when he offered one to you. “Is everything okay, Tommy?” you asked him, concerned.
As Tommy rubbed his thumb across his lips, he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath.
“It would be best if we don’t see each other anymore,” Tommy spoke, still not looking at you.
For a second, you thought you misheard him. “What?”
Tommy gulped down the rest of his whiskey and slammed the glass on the side table. “I have other things to worry about. The Company needs to have my full attention. If I want to take over Sabini’s racecourses, then I can’t have any distractions. “
Folding your arms, you leaned back in the chair. You couldn’t believe what you were hearing.
“Distractions? So, I’m a distraction, now?” you asked in disbelief. It took all you had not to smack the man before you upside the head. “You’re ridiculous.”
“I’m realistic,” Tommy countered and got up to walk to his desk. “This isn’t the time where I should…” he began to say but didn’t finish. It was like he was at a standstill. You could tell he didn’t believe what he was saying. That Tommy himself knew it was all bullshit. He was pushing you away so you wouldn’t get hurt.
Tommy didn’t want you to end up as a casualty in his war with Sabini. He also didn’t want someone like Campbell to use you as leverage against him. You were too much of a liability to him. If his enemies on to your connection to Tommy, then you could be used as a weakness against him.
Deciding that you had enough and didn’t want to listen to his gibberish, you got up and exited the office. Walking back to The Garrison, you told yourself not to cry that you were not going to shed one tear over a man who didn’t want you. That it was wasted energy crying over someone who was not brave enough even to be honest with you.
Tommy Shelby was a complicated man. You realized that he wasn’t the man for you in the long run. He was merely the man for you at the moment. And that moment was gone now.

Tommy x Reader
Requested by Anon
The new house was large. It still wasn’t fully furnished. There was a bottle whiskey loosely in your had as you walked around the hall, having been let in by a maid, the thought of the Shelby family having a maid was amusing.
“What do you think?” Tommy asked proudly.
“I think it’s a large home which will be very empty. There's more rooms than you could possibly fill Tommy.” You said playfully and he smiled.
“Well, I suppose you could always stay. A couple brothers, fill a few rooms.” He trailed off and laughed when you huffed.
“I see. So you invited me. To see the new home you wanted to invite me to live in.” You accused and he yielded jokingly, accepting the bottle of whisky you offered him.
Your independence had been a novelty to the Shelby boys, an inspiration to Ada and a scorn to Polly, you had no interest in settling for any of her nephews. Though she softened into pride when she realised that you’d rather be alone than with anyone but the Shelbys.
While you knew of the boys less than honest streak, they were all careful to ensure your record was squeaky clean. Though the police were sure to call at you as they broke up whatever mischief they were planning, sending you on your way, reminding you what trouble the boys where.
As you walked through the rooms and looked around it was clear that decorating the house had been a forthaught, while there was still huge spaces and some rooms that simply had no furniture in it. You couldn’t help but think back. The old house had been small and cramped, but that was what gave it such a charm.
Fighting for a place on one of the sofas or chair. The mismatched kitchen chairs shoved around the table as Polly pilled the food high and chaos broke out to grab something to eat.
The cold winters would bite at you as you raced along the road, bursting into the Shelby’s home would be like wrapping in a warm blanket, it was never cold in their home, everyone was welcome.
You imagined that this would be much the same. Or maybe not. It wasn’t hard for you to willingly ignore the Shelby family’s business. But you weren’t deaf. You heard people talk about what they did.
***********************
“I will admit that it’s nice to have the countryside on the doorstep.” You said to Tommy who’d agreed to walk with you.
It had been several hours and although the chill of the morning sank into your bones, neither of you minded, enjoying the peace of the morning.
“Well the offer still stands.” He joked with a smile.
“How can you stand being so out of the way. It’s always so busy in the city, everything happens at once.” You said happily, as you admired the trees that lined the Shelby property.
“It suits us just fine. Better in fact.”
“Ah, yes, less police officers to pull you up when you hooligans steal bikes.” You mused playfully, recalling the time when you were all younger, seeing Tommy and John dragged off by officers.
“Well I suppose that is a perk. But we’re safer here.” Tommy muttered. He frowned when cars started pulling up on the drive. Arthur was out of the door, rushing over to the two of you as he rushed you inside.
“Didn’t know they were showing up Tommy.” He muttered.
Tommy didn’t answer as he dragged you through his office and into a door that seemed to be built into the book shelves. “I’ll be back in a moment.” He muttered as he turned on the lights that hung from the walls and shut the door.
There was a small armchair, a table of alcohol and a few glasses and some books. Of course the booze came before the other luxuries. It wasn’t the first time something shady had happened and you’d been hidden out of sight.
When you pressed against the bookcase you could hear the family talking about whoever was outside. Knowing better than to listen to much you sat down and flicked through one of the books. Tommy’s mother had hoped you’d be a good influence on her boys. Polly claimed it was the mother Mary’s doing that they weren’t a bad influence on them.
Tommy seemed always tasked with charming you. Arhur would bumble about with nervous doting and John’s overconfident bound and the smile on his face was never anything more than brotherly. Arthur had steeled his nerves and John had the common sense to at least pretend he wasn’t gleeful, even when downing pints at the Garrison. Tommy had never grown out of being charming.
“What’re you going to do about (Y/N)? She doesn't want to stay, you can’t tell her why she’s not safe at him!” Polly said sharply. She was close to the door and you could hear her more clearly. Soft footsteps led away and there was a scraping noise at the edges of the bookcase.
“(Y/N)?” Tommy asked as he opened the door. It had been a good few hours since you’d been rushed into the hidden room. He called for you as if he half expected you to have found a way out without his notice.
You wanted to snap at him, shout and breathe him. Point out how much you put up with, be cruel and spit out that he was lucky you were still his friend. Though from the guilty look on his face he already knew all that.
For the first time you realise just how tired he looked. Like it seeped into his bones, draining him of life until he just plodded on like one of Charlie’s old cart horses walking the same track everyday.
“We have a room ready for you upstairs, I’ll show you which one.” Tommy said. That was all he said. There was no explanation, for the men in cars, the panic of the family or the rush to shut you out of sight. Though there never was an explanation with Tommy. Arthur would have exaggerated the danger, John would have bragged of his heroics, Tommy would stay quiet and watch. Tommy never told, he would observe you the way you watched him now. If you tried to question him when he was younger you might have been rewarded with a wry smile that lifted the corner of his lips, only showing in his eyes if he looked at you. You didn’t ask Tommy questions anymore.
He took your hand and led you through the big house. There was a heavy air in the house. A thick uncomfortable feeling, that seemed to choke the delight that had filled it for the last few days, the kind of feeling that stagnated conversation as it settled.
Passing a room you saw Arthur, leaning on a desk with his head in his hands. Another room John was hugging Esme who rubbed his back gently, both looking worried. Ada passed the halls as you passed her. If Tommy hadn’t placed his hand on your back to move you on faster, you might have pulled away, reached for Ada. That was what you wanted more than anything just then. To hug Ada and stop her pacing like a trapped animal, rush on to John and Esme, assure them that if they stuck together they’d be fine. You’d take Arthur's big hands in yours and remind him of the words he’d tell you if he saw you were nervous, that if he was brave enough nothing would stop him.
Walking up the stairs seemed like walking to another world. Leaving the fearing Shelby’s behind to ascend with Tommy to the floor that was filled with rushing housemaids. It was as if the mood couldn’t dig its claws in here. The rushing maids bustled about and disrupted it’s clutch.
“Just ask if you need anything.” Tommy said as he led you to the end of a corridor. He paused outside a door that had fresh flowers set on a table next to it. Sunlight streamed in through the window at the end of the corridor and you could see the woods and lands stretching into the distance. Tommy hadn’t let go of you. Was he waiting for you to demand to go home? He couldn't think you would leave them now. The silence between you had started to become awkward so he let go of your hand and opened the door. As you moved in his hand fell away from you back.
The room was large, lavish and beyond anything you would choose to fill a house with. Ornate and beautiful but for show. As you looked around he stayed in the doorway, as if stepping in would drag in all the chaos going on below and dampen the room.
You turned to thank him, but your words fell short. Feeling more like a captive you weren’t sure if you should thank him. That perhaps doing so would make the pained look, that occasionally played over his face as he watched you, worse.
For the first time since you’d known him, you had no idea how to cheer Tommy up, it set a fluttering nervousness through you.
“I’ll... Try and get everything sorted.” He said quickly. His voice cracked as if his statement was an apology for keeping you there. When he didn’t move you realised he was waiting for an objection, some fight and spirit, a negotiation that ended with you living on as usual with a little interference from the Peaky Blinders. But you couldn’t find it in your heart to fight him. Tommy had always managed to be charming, keep the worry of his world from his face, join his siblings in revealing in your blissfully cheerful world.
With quick steps you walked back towards the door. Before he could step out of your way you crashed into him with the tightest hug you could muster. He let out a breath against your ear that could have been mistaken for the ghost of a fond laugh. His arms wrapped around you and for a moment you stayed that way. Until you spotted a nervous housemaid over his shoulder, staring at her feet so hard she might well burn holes through the floor beneath her, and pulled away.
“I’m sure it’ll all work out. That’s what you’re good at Tommy.” You assured him. His reply was a curt nod as he moved away from the doorway and started off down the hall. You decided to save the housemaid from her statuesque position and invited her into your room, helping with the blankets and spare clothes she was carrying. Tommy paused at the end of the landing and looked back at you, comforting the girl who seemed mortified to have encroached on the moment. He smiled, the smile that you coaxed out of him on occasion, comforted that no matter what went wrong over the next few weeks. He had his own piece of sunshine tucked away for the worst days.

It's Always Been Molly
John Shelby x OC story
Part Three
Tumblr media
A/N: Two updates in one weekend! Who am I lol! Another part is up!  You get a glimpse of the Mollys past in this one.  I apologize in advance if I offend anyone. Thank you to the person who made the GIF above. I think it might be perfect for this part.  Links to the other parts are below.  Happy reading!
PART ONE ; PART TWO
Warnings: language, mention of abuse, mention of murder and death, mention of pregnancy and childbirth, angst, alcohol (I’m trying really hard with these btw. If I leave something out I’m so sorry)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two days after her meeting with Thomas, a friend was bringing the rest of her things from London. She had to meet him at the train station.
Molly had woken up earlier than usual that day. As she walked down the hallway, she saw Jacobs door open. Walking down the steps, she could smell breakfast being made.  She was surprised to see her brother standing by the cooker.
“When the ‘ell did you learn how to cook?”, she said as she sat down at the table and started making her plate.
Jacob came to sit down with the rest of the meal,” The nice nanny Tommy hired to watch me after you left taught me.  I think her name was Helen. I just called her Nan. Dad wasn’t happy when he came back, and she was here instead of you.” He looked up at his sister waiting for her reaction.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, “Are we really going to talk about this now? I’ve been back for three days!”, she exclaimed.
“You were never on the receiving end of Richards abuse. Mum and I protected you from that. He killed our mother, but paid off the police to rule it an accident. Then he tried to kill me the same way Jake. And don’t think I don’t know about the time he came home drunk, like he always did, and almost bloody shot you.”
Jacob looked over at his sister with wide eyes. That had happened about a year after she had left. He didn’t know she knew about that.  He begged Tommy not to tell anyone, especially her. And a few days later Tommy and Polly had come over to sign him into Helen’s custody, on Molly’s behave and told him his father was never coming back to hurt anyone again.
“I was the one who told Tommy to have the Peaky Blinders finish him. Tommy told me they did it slowly and painfully. A way to punish him for what he did to me and our mother. For all the mental, physical, sexual abuse he bestowed on us. Tommy said in the end, John was the one who pulled the trigger. His way of a vengeance for being half the reason I had left,” Molly continued as she stared right at the brother with no emotion on her face.
Jacob reaches over the table to grab her hand, giving it a squeeze,” I was never sad. I was more relieved. And I’m not mad you called the order. Back then I hoped it would bring you back, but I’m happy you are here now. Even though, it’s my fault.”
“I told you not to worry about that. I’ve got everything settled. We are going to the train station this afternoon to get the rest of my things and then I’m officially here for a while,” she smiled. “Tommy said he called a family meeting to announce my homecoming and employment as the maid for the betting shop. We are both invited. At this meeting you will apologize and Tommy will then make you an offer. You’ll either become a Peaky Blinder or you’ll go to work with their horses. You have the afternoon to decide. And then tomorrow, we both start our new jobs.”
Jacob nodded in agreement knowing he didn’t have a choice. He was the one who let it slip to his friends about his relationship with the Shelby’s. He was going to help his sister make it right.
As the clock struck noon, Molly and Jacob were at the train station waiting for the train from London to arrive. Soon Terry would arrive with the rest of her stuff, and they would never have to see each other again. Terry and Molly had an on then off kind of relationship. He was the landlord of her apartment building. When she got the call, they were off again, so he was relieved when she said she wouldn’t be back for a while. Unfortunately, he didn’t sign up to bring the rest of her stuff to her, so she knew he would be irritable when he got here.
As the train pulled into the station and people started to exit, she could hear Terry grumbling in the distance.
“Molly fucking Payne where are you?”, he screamed across the platform.
“Well hello to you too Terry. This is my brother Jacob. Jacob this is Terry”, Molly said as she introduced them. Jacob stuck out his hand for a handshake, but Terry ignored him.
“Just give me the fuckin’ money, so I can get the ‘ell back to London,” he said dropping her bags at their feet.
Molly handed him his money and he walked away. “I don’t know what the hell I ever saw in him. Must have been all the good alcohol he fed me and the cheap rent,” she chuckled and rolled her eyes.
As they were gathering her bags, Molly looked up to see a man on one knee proposing to his lady with an older woman standing next to her. She thought to herself how cute that was and when they walked past the trio, she called out,” Congratulations.”
This made the older woman look up, and she and Molly’s eyes met. Molly quickly, then looked away, hoping Polly didn’t recognize her, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
“Molly Payne. My sweet Molly!”, Polly exclaimed happily. She then grabbed the girl and wrapped her in a hug and kissed her forehead.
Molly then realized the other two people with Polly were Ada and Freddie. She smiled when Ada pulled her into a hug as well. She gave a small hello nod to Freddie and mouthed sorry for ruining their moment. It wasn’t until Ada squeezed her really hard that she felt something poking between them.
Molly pulled away with a giant smile on her face, “You’re pregnant!” She reached to put her hand on Adas small bump.
Ada when leaned into Freddie, “We are! And just in time because by the looks of these bags, it could only mean auntie Molly is back in town.”
“When did you get back? Does anyone know you are here? Does John?”, Polly asked.
Molly then explained that Tommy was the only one besides her brother, who was forgotten during the reunion, that she was here. But everyone, including John would find out tonight.  She made them promise not to say anything until then.  After they all agreed, they went their separate ways.
As the evening approached, Molly watched out the window as all the Shelbys arrived for their family meeting. Thomas called her after she had returned from the train station to tell her to come over around half past six. He wanted her to knock on the door and wait for him to come get them.
She looked over at the clock. It was just after six. She got up from the sofa to head upstairs. “Hey, let’s start to get ready. We need to leave soon,” she said as she walked past his room on her way to hers. She sat at the vanity to fix her hair and then went over to the wardrobe to pick a dress.
With one last look over herself in the mirror, she took a deep breath to calm the nerves that had suddenly appeared. She walked through the hall and down the steps, she notices it’s twenty past six.
“Jake, please hurry up. I really don’t want to be late,” she said in an anxious tone as she fumbled around trying to get everything together but her hands were shaking.
Jacob came down the steps moments later chuckling,” We are walking across the street. We won’t be late.”  He then grabs the girl by her shoulders to stop her, “Molly, Molly! Stop! Everything will be fine. You look great. Everyone will be so happy to see you.”
“Yeah. Okay,” she said not convinced and took another deep breath.
The two then put their coats on and walked out the door across the street. As they approached the Shelby house, Molly was frozen with fear and anxiety. Jacob then took the initiative to knock on the door signaling they arrived.  Moments later Thomas answered the door and ushered her and Jacob in.
“Wait here for just a minute”, Thomas whispered, walking back into the kitchen.
“Now, onto the second reason I gathered you all here today. A few weeks ago, someone had broken into the betting shop after hours and took some money we left laying out,” Thomas looked around at each of his siblings and aunt,” Now part of that was our fault, but me and the Blinders found the boys that had done it and took care of them, except for one. I asked him to come here tonight to speak to us about how he will pay us back. Jacob, please come in here.”
Jacob followed Thomas into the room. “Hello everyone. I would first like to say I am deeply, deeply sorry for stealing from you. I fell into the wrong crowd, and they used my relationship with you all against me. I hope you all can forgive me. We will do everything we can to pay everything back.
“We? Whose we?”, Arthur piped up.
“Yeah, whose we? You mean you and the redhead leaving your house every morning,” John said jokingly as he stood to wrap an arm around the boy.
Now with Johns back to her, Molly thought it would be a good time to walk into the kitchen. All eyes were on her except for Johns, who didn’t hear her walk up behind him.  Polly and Ada were smiling, Thomas was smirking and Arthur’s mouth just dropped open.
She then cleared her throat,” No, it’s me.”
Hearing the voice John hadn’t heard in eight years, his eyes widened with shock, and he turned around.  There was no way he was seeing and hearing correctly. He was speechless.
“Hello everyone. Hello John,” Molly going to grab a hold of her brother.
“Now that Jacob has apologized. I hope you all don’t mind, I’ll be working here, as the maid and nanny for Finn. I’ll also help with your children when needed John,” she said looking at him. His expression still shocked that she was standing there after all these years.
“Jacob here has decided to take a job as a Peaky Blinder, with everyone’s permission. I hope that him joining will help pay back everything you all have done for us.  I want you all to teach him how to keep the city safe. I hope to keep this place tidy and up to your standards, as well as keep Finn out of trouble,” Molly continued.
Polly then stood up and came toward Jacob,” He’ll be a good man to help keep the pubs in check,” she then turned to Tommy,” You keep him away from the fighting for now. I can still sense the scared child in him.”
She then made her way over to Molly. She looked at her with sad eyes, sensing the fear in her heart. Polly then again turned to Tommy,” She doesn’t need to be involved. She doesn’t owe us anything,” Polly then moved her eyes over to John, who was now stood leaning against the wall,” She was almost family. She should have been rising with us not under us. Jacob being a Blinder should be enough to cover the damage.”
“A deal has already been set Polly. She and I sat down a few days ago and agreed to the terms,” Tommy said back.
“Well then undo it. The poor girl is still broken, I can sense it. Why would you make a decision like this and not consult the rest of us,” Polly spat back.
Molly then reached for Polly’s hand,” It’s okay Pol. I’ll be alright. It’s just cleaning and watching over the children”, she then reached her other hand out for Ada,” Just think, I’ll be able to help deliver the baby. Just like we did when Finn was born.”
Polly smiles at the memory. Her sister had been having a hard time delivering the little boy, so she had Ada run across the lane for Molly’s mother. Molly had insisted on going with her leaving Jacob with Ada. That was the first time she had ever seen a baby be born. After, Molly had told John that’s what she wanted to do with when she was older. Have babies and deliver them.
“I have something to look forward to, so I won’t be running away again,” Molly continued while smiling at the memory as well. She had looked over at John and their eyes met. He remembered that day too. It was the day he promised himself he was going to make that happen for you. But of course, as time went on, things changed.
“Okay, you both win. I won’t fight it,” Polly says raising her hands in defeat.
Tommy then clears his throat,” Alright then, all in favor of Molly and Jacob coming to work for us raise your hand.” Everyone raised a hand except for John.
He then kicked himself off the wall and walked back over toward Molly. “I know you better than anyone else in this room. Look me in the eyes and tell me you want this. I’ll raise my hand if you really want this,” he said, wrapping his hand lightly around her shoulders, making her look at him.
Molly reluctantly looked up at John, “I don’t just want this John, I need this. I need to do this to help my brother. He is the only reason I came back here.”
And with that, Molly shook Johns hands off of her and backed away. She then noticed John raise his hand.
Arthur then stood up and made his way over to Jacob,” Well, I guess this calls for a celebratory drink,” he then proceeded to pour everyone a drink,” Welcome to the Peaky Blinders kid”
And just like that, it was official. All the Shelbys agreed and it was set in stone.
They all spent the rest of the night catching up and drinking. Molly couldn’t help but notice how quiet John was. She knew he wouldn’t be happy with the decision and what she had said. But he was going to have to deal with it. It was the truth. She came back for her brother.
Or at least that’s what she thought.
