And now for the proper story;

Dick sipped at his champagne with a smile, watching Wally dance with one of the gala guests. The girl was pretty but young, probably still a teenager and you didn't have to look very hard to notice that Wally was very uncomfortable having someone his kids' age flirt with him. As soon as he was able to, he sped back to Dick's side.

"That walk was awfully fast, Walls." Dick hummed into his glass. "It'd be a shame if someone noticed."

Wally groaned, grabbing a glass of something stronger for himself. It wouldn't do much for him with a speedster metabolism but he still could enjoy the taste.

"Give me a break. I'm too old for this shit." He muttered.

Dick laughed. "If Bruce's not too old for this, neither are you."

And Bruce was still going strong, despite the fact that all his hair had turned white a long time ago. He stayed sitting throughout the whole gala but he was still as charming as ever, playing Brucie Wayne even as a teenage boy's grandfather.

"Bruce just isn't human." Wally shook his head before taking a big gulp from his glass. "We already talked about this."

"For many years." Dick agreed easily.

"I'm still right. And I still hate you for dragging me along with you to this thing."

"And I still love you for going with me. You're actually making this night bearable, I can't believe I'm still letting Bruce force me to attend his stupid galas."

Wally snorted. "You're just not physically able to tell him 'no' and you're old enough to already realize that, dude."

Dick grimaced. Yeah, that one was true, no matter how he hated the fact. Even after all those years, sometimes just one word from Bruce was enough to have him running.

He parted his lips to reply when something else caught his attention. A young man with short blond hair and hard blue eyes was walking slowly towards them from the other side of the ballroom. When Dick met his gaze, his lips curled into a lazy smirk.

"Oh no."

Wally immediately looked more alert. "What is it?"

"Remember that guy I've been telling you about?"

"Which one? Your little mercenary admirer?"

"Mm. He's here."

"What?!"

Before they got to say anything else, Slade stopped right before him. He was dressed in a black three piece suit, similar to Dick's dark-blue one, and despite himself Dick had to admit that it looked very nice on him.

"Pretty bird." He greeted, voice a purr. He didn't even look at Wally.

Dick sighed, "Slade. You know I hate this nickname."

The smirk on Slade's lips widened, turning into a grin. "I do."

"And you also know that I'll be very unhappy if you try to kill someone at my father's gala."

Slade's fingers wrapped around his hand in a strong grip. When his lips brushed against his skin, without looking away from Dick's eyes, Dick had to force himself not to react in any way.

"In that case you'll have to occupy me enough for the rest of the night." Slade mused. He put his other hand on Dick's waist and pulled him close, so close that their chest touched and Dick's breath stopped in his lungs. "I think a dance will be a good start for that."

Dick cursed very ugly in his thought.

He couldn't break out of Slade's grip without causing a scene and bringing everyone's attention. At the same time, if he didn't break out of his grip, he'll be forced to slow dance with him in front of everyone. Someone will take a picture of them, sell it to the press for sure.

Bruce will get mad. Jaden will have to see his father dance with a man almost his own age.

Dick cursed again, this time outloud. Slade just chuckled, starting to lead him in the dance.

"I'll make you pay for it, brat." Dick hissed.

Slade pressed his lips against Dick's chin to press another kiss there. "I'm looking forward to it, old man."

i love destiel that never gets to, you know, do the whole life together thing i love it I love when one of them sacrifices themselves for the other and the person left behind has to just. live with it. i love it when there's a moment just before everything is over when they have each other and they hold on to that moment with everything but they both know it's over!!! like!!!
