Neil: I kind of wound up having to write this as a love story, and part of the joy of writing a love story is the break-up, because you can’t get back together again unless you’ve broken up. So this is the break-up.
Douglas: I think you can say it’s two actors working at peak.
Neil: They really are. I mean they’re so good. And I remember watching this being shot, knowing how good it was.

Douglas: We landed on that location kind of by mistake through scheduling, and I’m so glad we did it that way in the end.
Neil: Oh yeah, it was origially set in-
Douglas: It was set at night, wasn’t it?

'kids these days are weirdly scrupulous for no reason'. WRONG not for no reason. grew up on increasingly de-anonymized internet, being available to everyone all the time, data tracked, google sees all, digital panopticon, etc. less and less space to explore and form own opinions without judgment from broad public audience. lack of privacy can be deeply traumatic and cause intense paranoia, obsession with thought crimes, morality, etc. not good.
“And I would like to spend hmmmmmnnn” was literally the line delivery heard around the world. Even David Tennant’s sworn enemies, the Bafta voters, were like….ok girl
“Palestinian children look at Ziad Abu Eid, who fled the besieged Nahr al-Bared camp, speaking with his bride Amal during their wedding at a balcony decorated with advertising plastic sheets used as makeshift curtains to protect them from the sun and eyes of curious onlookers at the Uzai area, south of Beirut. Against all odds and despite the thud of mortars and rattle of machine guns, Ziad fled the Nahr al-Bared camp and decided to get married. His move was not a challenge or to prove that life continues despite death and destruction, but it was to make sure that his beloved wife will be near him if he ever needed to flee or be displaced again.”
date idea: we watch broadchurch together and you let me tell you about every actor who was also on doctor who and you say things like "wow" "that's interesting" "you know so much you're very smart and handsome"
