Listen to Future Days by Joel Miller
Author's notes: Here I am, back with the writing bug. It's been a long time since I've wanted to write something. As TLOU has dominated my whole life with the games that I've loved for years and the HBO series, it's no surprise that I have a whole fantasy in my head that I needed to write fanfiction about.
Hope you guys enjoy reading this! Please do comment and reblog, anything that helps to get this around.
Troy singing Future Days always gets me in the feels. If Pedro ends up singing...I am DONE (unless he sings La Bamba LMAO). Or if Bella sings Take On Me...TEARS. I love listening to the Part II covers.
not to be thirsty on here, but praise naughty dog for making joel miller so...mmmm yeah. i wanna marry this man. even pedro says he's hot

Everything I've found here, I've not found by myself.
Winter was coming which meant heavy snow and slower starts to days with the later sunrise and the numbing morning air. Jackson had started preparations for it - checking that its residents had everything to keep warm in their homes, protecting the allotments and making any repairs to maintain buildings.
Sweeping through the long patrol routes was the biggest task. Maria had to be sure that the people assigned to them could handle potential Infected and any people they may meet on the way. Past encounters have mostly gone smoothly, with trading links made between communities, like Jackson, and also helping any travellers who just needed a good night of sleep and food in their system, setting off the next morning. This was something that the residents of Jackson were incredibly grateful for - to be able to say that they were safe and had warm beds to greet every night, as well as being able to provide aid and supplies to people who come through was a privilege.
The few not-so-pleasant meetings with bandits ended with minor injuries and increased security at the power plant as a precaution.
Joel and Ellie settled in as well as they could after the hell of a journey they completed. You lived a road away from their new home, so you had seen them integrate into the community and get used to living instead of surviving.
Maria was the one responsible for your first interaction with Joel, who was getting to know the different patrol routes on the map. "She's one of our best. A great shot, smart, reliable. Expect to be on patrol with her if Tommy isn't around. She's a busy woman in this town."
"Wow." You leaned forward onto the desk of her office with your hands. "A great shot, smart and reliable? You flatter me, Maria," you joked with a smirk on your face.
That was the first time you had seen Joel Miller smile. Even if it may have been a small one.
In the few months since the older Miller brother and the 14 year-old had arrived, you've had the opportunity to introduce (and re-introduce to the man) the different parts of the town to them.
"Woah, you have art classes? FEDRA school was never like this." Ellie wandered around the empty classroom that was decorated with paintings and drawings made by the young Jackson residents. Her fingers trailed along the row of paintbrushes and stained palettes.
"If you want, we can enrol you in some of the classes? I know you said that you wanted to take up patrols, but you're still young. We've even got Spanish. Try bilingualism to stimulate that brain of yours," you suggested.
You would never forget the way she looked up to you with widened eyes and an excited smile. "Really?" You nodded. "Didn't you say you teach a class, too? Maybe I could join yours as well?"
You sat on a desk with a warmed heart for the kid who wanted to go to school and learn. "I teach some psychology. Not that it means anything now, but there was blood, sweat and tears working for my PhD and training, so I might as well put it to good use to fill in the time and help anyone who wants it."
"What's a PhD?" Ellie asked in confusion.
You chuckled to yourself and started to explain. "It's basically a way to get people to call you Doctor."
Then, Ellie took her chance.
"Why is a doctor always calm?" She asked with her legs swinging back and forth under the table she was sitting on.
You shrugged.
A smirk found its way to her lips. "Because they have a lot of patients."
Joel was standing a few feet away from the door, taking in the sounds of laughter before calling out for the jokester.
-
Your house was one of the smaller ones on your road; just enough for one person. I'm just lucky to even have a home. Only a short walk away from Joel and Ellie's, you hugged a small pile of books to your chest and with a bag hung from your shoulder, dressed in a well-worn pair of jeans and a thick jumper.
The house came into view at the end of the street. It was not unusual to find yourself walking up the steps to their front door to bring Ellie some things that you thought she might like.
Taking a deep breath, you knocked. Footsteps thumped through the door, the locks were undone and the man of the house greeted you. "Hey." He widened the opening as an invite into the home. "Lookin' for Ellie, Santa Claus?" He eyed the the books and the bag you were holding.
"I am, yes." You stepped inside and pushed the door closed with your shoulder. "As you can see, she's made it onto the nice list and is owed a lot of presents." He started to lead you through the hallway and the kitchen where the backdoor led to the garden where Ellie lived in her converted garage.
"Know anything 'bout me being on that list?" He sent a teasing grin over his shoulder and stepped out into the grassy area.
(That was a loaded question.)
"Oh, Joel Miller, wouldn't you like to know? Too impatient to wait for December, are we?" An eyebrow raised at him.
"No, I'm patient." Just as he was about to call Ellie's name, he faced you. "When I need to be."
-
"Woah!" Ellie inspected the orange glowing lamp in her hands. "It looks kind of like a rocket."
"Yeah, that's why I brought it over. Thought you'd like it," you said while she made rocket launching sounds and waved it around. "And to go with your journey to the stars," you placed the books on her coffee table, "these are photos from the NASA Archive."
Her eyes widened and she instantly started to flick through the pages without another word except 'look' when she tilted the pages towards you, completely mesmerised by what had been discovered.
Joel, who was sitting on the couch beside you, hadn't said anything since you showed her the lava lamp. Looking over your shoulder, you glanced at him. Shoulders and eyebrows relaxed, no tension shown.
He looked...content, as if he just had a day off work and stayed at home.
Then, his eyes met yours. A small smile of gratitude was sent to you before you both went back to watching Ellie get excited at all her new gifts.
This is what I saved her for.
-
When you and Joel finally left Ellie's garage, the sun was setting which left a warm filter on everything within its reach. She was left marvelling over her newly acquired 'space hub' as she called it - a new poster of Neil Armstrong on her wall, a collection of books that were not in the FEDRA school library and an 'alien spaceship' as a lamp.
"Thank you for doing this for her." His hands were stuffed in his pockets while the two of you stood by the gate that you would eventually walk out of to go home. "You didn't have to. Here, she gets to be a kid an’-"
"I know, and I wanted to." Letting out an exhale, you decided to just lay everything out. "Look, Ellie's so young and has been through so much shit. Definitely more than what we experienced her age. Death and survivor's guilt come by so easily now, and I do what I can to help people cope with it whenever they ask." Joel dipped his head down and leaned his elbow on the wooden fence. "But the children here don't have to face those things because we keep them safe and we have a responsibility to teach them how to be. I like her happy and I also like seeing you happy for her, Joel."
The next thing he knew, he felt your hand's light squeeze on his forearm. "It's a good look on you." Just before you pulled back, he patted and laid his hand on yours (maybe for a second longer than he intended), squeezing back.
"Thank you."
"You say that a lot. Might have to start collecting money from you." He laughed and shook his head.
"Tell me how much and I'll pay it. 'M feeling generous today," he went on. A few seconds of silence fell. "I don't want to keep you out for too long. I'm sure you want to get home soon." He stood up, preparing to unlock the gate for you.
"Yeah." Bringing down the bag from your shoulder, you reached to the bottom and extended the package to him. "I actually did get you something, though." He took it, unwrapping the paper. Guitar strings. "My attic had a load of junk when I moved in and there was some music stuff there, too. I remember Tommy telling me stories of him and his big brother going to see live music-"
"And we'd mess around on the guitars at the end of the shows," he finished. "I haven't touched one since then." His eyes stayed locked on the bag of strings between his fingers.
"I'm pretty sure they have a few in the old music shop." Taking small steps to the gate, Joel followed. "I put all the treasure from my attic in the back room. Go raid it sometime."
"I will," he replied. You both stopped and you turned to him, with a soft grin. "Again, thank you."
You sighed at that. "You're welcome." A few steps out, you faced him. "Again."
Quick shots of his breath lightly hit your face and you looked up at him. "Sun’s setting now, Joel, so I think that’s my cue to get home.”
He nodded. “See you tomorrow, then.”
“See you tomorrow, Joel.”
Unknown to you and the man, who stayed by the gate until you turned the corner, there was a curious set of eyes peeking through the curtains of their little converted garage.

A/N: what did you guys think of this?? tell me if there are any mistakes like spelling, grammar, switching tenses bc i didn't read it properly, etc.
this is the lava lamp that was gifted to Ellie if you just zoom in...

and he got guitar strings from santa!!!! since joel will eventually make his own gee-tars, he can have some strings that may hold sentimental value later.

Can you review Jumpluff and it’s line if you haven’t? They’re not very useful but I have a real affection for the little guys
Tumblr media
Hoppip is a neat little plant creature. It's somewhat cat-like, with cat ears and a tail, but has a stubby body and two giant dandelion leaves on its head. Even more interesting is the fact that it can fly by spinning the leaves, making it a dandelion that rides the air throughout all its life stages, instead of just in the seeding stage.
Visually, Hoppip has a super simple design; a plain pink body, yellow eyes, green leaves. I kind of wish the leaves on the head were more naturally integrated (maybe the tail could've been another leaf, or the leaves on its head could connect to the cat ears somehow), but it's a nice and pleasant design.
Also, side note: these guys get blown away during storms in SV and I think that's really funny (and it fits their lore!).
Tumblr media
Hoppip evolves into Skiploom here, which is kind of a dandelion flower in theory, even if it looks more like a daisy. It retains its flight abilities as well, having its large wings assist it in gliding.
As a middle evo, I'd say it's pretty good—it has its own color palette and the flower, making it a logical middle step yet unique in its own right. It's got most of the same things Hoppip has, including a slightly shorter tail and a cute little squiggly mouth. The body is also more oval-shaped. It's simple, but it works.
Tumblr media
Jumpluff's always been my favorite out of these three. I feel like it has the most coherency with its plant aspects; not only are the three puffs on its body well balanced, but the circular shape of the body is mimicked by the circular dandelion fluffs. The dark blue body is pleasant and contrasts nicely with the lighter cream puffs.
Speaking of color, we also happen to have the beta sprites for this line:
Tumblr media
These sprites sport some obvious differences; namely, all three retain cat ears and tails (even having the word "neko" in their beta names), and the colors are different; Hoppip being all green, Skiploom all yellow, and Jumpluff all pink.
On the one hand, I appreciate the variety of body shapes and different features we get in the final versions; these ones all feel the same in the lower body areas, with the head accents the only thing that differentiates them.
But on the other hand, I feel like the colors here made more sense. All three still have separate color schemes, but here you have the plant stage being green, the flower stage being yellow, and the seed stage being pink (dandelion fluff is white, but light pink's a good pink if you wanted more color). These colors feel more coherent and logical than the ones we got in the final line.
I also liked the cat smiles on these guys. Little :3 mouths are just inherently cute. Jumpluff got to retain its, but I definitely wouldn't have complained if Hoppip and Skiploom kept theirs as well.
So overall, this is a strong line, with all stages being distinct and a simple theme. I wish one or two of the elements from the beta had been kept, but for what we got, I rather enjoy these little guys.
Also, was anyone going to tell me the origin of these guy's names, or was I just supposed to find that out from a random Bulbapedia article myself:

The Big Gundam Watch, Part 12: Mobile Suit Gundam F91
Tumblr media
Back when I started doing these write-ups, I was pretty certain I was just going to ignore F91. Reading up on it at the time, it was clearly an odd duck: it’s a standalone movie in the Universal Century timeline that takes place 30 years after Char’s Counterattack and 30 years before Victory Gundam, so outside of the manga-only continuation Crossbone Gundam, it didn’t seem worth checking out. But as I and found myself enjoying more and more of the Gundam franchise, I figured I should check it out anyway, especially since the F91 and the Crossbone Gundam are really cool designs.
As it turns out, I really like F91! Unfortunately, this is in spite of some major flaws, mostly stemming from the fact that it feels like a TV series they had to condense into a two hour movie... which it turns out is literally what happened:
Tumblr media
So with that put out right at the start, let's get into it:
THE STUFF I LIKED:
I promise I won't start every entry like this, but with the knowledge that this was originally going to be a TV series, I think "the gang" they introduce is perfect. Seabook, Cecily, Seabook's Little Sister, Grumpy Techie, Normal Kid, Team Mom Punk Girl, Seabook's Cowardly Rival, a bunch of kids like the White Base Babies/Shinta and Qum, a literal actual baby- that's a Burger King Kids Club right there, perfectly suited to TV hijinks. Of course, you can't do a lot of goofy, ZZ-esque hijinks in a two hour movie, but they manage to slip some stuff in, and in isolation I thought they were mostly pretty fun.
I'm also really fond of the actual crew of the Space Ark, because they collectively remind me of my favorite version of Bright Noa; people way out of their depth and doing their best with way too much responsibility while being relentless dogged by Federation war hawks who- in a pleasant contrast to War in the Pocket- are maybe the scummiest bastards they've ever been.
Tumblr media
With those two things mentioned; I don’t think it’s much of a secret that F91 was almost certainly an attempt at soft-rebooting Gundam. I think it was a noble attempt; unlike Wing, which I regularly derided as “the Universal Century again, but with arbitrary differences”, the differences here feel more considered. For example: Seabook is an amalgamation of Amuro, Kamille, and Judau, Cecily Fairchild is F91’s equivalent of Sayla Mass, but also, she also fulfills the role of a grown-up Mineva Zabi, and the F91 itself is actually pretty special compared to all of its contemporary mobile suits because of Seabook's mom's quirked-up design.
Visually, I really love this movie. I'm not very good at describing visual stuff, so I tend to avoid saying much more than "it's good" or "it's bad", but this movie uses a lot of unusual colors and lighting compared to what came before. Like, I would describe the most commonly reoccurring color in this movie's palette as "periwinkle", and this shot from the first conversation between Cecily and Iron Mask really highlights how important lighting is in this animated feature, which is not something I typically think about when watching animation.
Tumblr media
Speaking of: it's crazy to think Unicorn's Riddhe Marcenas was never The Biggest Cuck in Gundam, because Iron Mask has been occupying that position since 1991. Not just literally, but every single word he says and action he takes is just barely not seething. Explicitly mentioning he came to terms with the guy his wife ran off with right before murdering him with psychic powers just to make her sad is peak Cuck Behavior.
Tumblr media
Way back in my Hathaway review, I talked about how much I liked the scene of Hathaway and Gigi having to navigate a mobile suit firefight on foot, and for how good that was, F91 actually outdoes that movie. Like, not even 10 minutes in do we get the scene of the baby's mother getting instantly killed by a shell casing, and this is before the fighting starts in earnest.
Tumblr media
I pointed this out in a separate post but man do I love the space rescue from Final Fantasy VIII, so finding out that (barring this movie having taken it from something else itself) F91 was the origin of this was a genuinely delightful way to end the movie. Also, even without that comparison, there's is something powerfully romantic about the visual of clinging to your loved one in the endless, uncaring vacuum of space.
Tumblr media
THE STUFF I LIKED LESS:
For all the things this movie must have cut, there's an equal number of things it didn't and just rammed in there anyway, like the subplot with Annamarie and Zabine. In a ~50 episode TV series, they could have stretched her growing resentment towards Cecily, defection from the Vanguard, and ultimate clash with Zabine over like 10 episodes, and her death at his hands and his cold dismissal would've had way more impact than it did over the course of 10 minutes.
I mentioned before, Cecily is both a "what if" of an older Mineva Zabi as she appeared in the Zeta/ZZ, which also makes her the blueprint for Mineva Zabi as she actually appears in Unicorn. The flaw here is the Ronah family: unlike the Zabis, who rose to power and infamy with cloak and dagger, the Ronah family just... exists? And they have enough power and resources to form a fighting force as threatening to the firmly entrenched (but arguably stagnant/in-decline) Federation as the Crossbone Vanguard? It'd be easier to handwave if F91 took place, like, 100 years after CCA, but with only 30 years it's just bizarre.
Also not to let Cecily off scot-free, it's very not flattering how easily she fell for the absolute monarchy meme. Like, ok, she's 17 and definitely in over her head, but when Seabook came to rescue her I still don't understand why she was like "no, it's too late, they already convinced me facism is based".
Tumblr media
Wiki diving on this subject indicates the Ronah family is basically a new money family that bought an old money name to sound more important, which is delicious, and even sort of ties in with Iron Mask being a Cyber-Newtype, but that's not really present in the movie. Never a good thing when I have to wiki dive to understand something better.
Speaking of this movie only taking place 30 years after CCA: this is not at all the fault of F91, because at the time it was made nothing had else had really been written to have happened aftere Char's Counterattack, but it's very weird to see people who should know better be like "there used to be these people called 'Newtypes', and a special kind of mobile suit called a 'Gundam'".
Tumblr media
The Bugs are comically stupid. If I were being charitable, I could chalk this up to Iron Mask being a seething cuck and wanting to be as cruel as possible to the people he's killing, but the idea that self-propelled heat seeking sawblades are a more viable method of mass killing than the gas attacks in Zeta is bananas. (I wrote this right after watching F91, and now that I've had the chance to think back on Zeta- specifically how the first colony we see that got hit with the Titans' gas attack was still uninhabitable years later- I can kind of see the rationale behind the Bugs, but they're still very dumb)
Most of the mech designs in this are pretty great, but I gotta say I'm super disappointed with the Rafflesia. I kept waiting for it to bloom into a dope-ass Qubeley/Kshatriya lookin' thing but it was just the Final Weapon from Mega Man X4.
I mentioned I liked the mobile suit designs, but the Crossbone Vanguard in general is not beating the Star Wars allegations.
Tumblr media
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
I aspire to own the BEAUTIFUL LIFE TOMINO jacket in the way that other guys with different brain problems than me aspire to own the jacket from Drive.
Tumblr media
There was a bunch of stuff in this movie I thought was very funny, intentionally or otherwise:
Despite how horrifying the scene gets, the War Museum fight kicking off with the curator announcing/revealing that the name of the museum is "Roy's War Museum" killed me.
Tumblr media
Seabook jumping off the maintenance platform and audibly shattering his knees is incredibly fucking funny.
Tumblr media
However, Seabook's mom hopping on a moped and immediately eating shit is maybe the single funniest scene in any Gundam media ever.
Tumblr media
You're right, random citizen attending the Crossbone Vanguard propaganda rally: beam flags ARE awesome!
Tumblr media
This sentence is just a literal observation of what's literally happening in the scene. Like, thinking about it, most attacks on colonies from space in the Universal Century would necessarily come from what would technically be considered "underground" because of how they're designed, but I'll be damned if it doesn't sound poetic. Tomino strikes again!
Tumblr media
I've talked about SPEEN before, but it has literally never been SPEEN-ier than F91. Like, here's over a full minute of So Much Fucking Spinning (with the dub audio, where they added in sound effects for everything that's spinning for some reason):
If you don't count the numerous manga follow ups: lol, lmao
Tumblr media
IN CONCLUSION:
In an alternate universe where F91 had the chance to be the TV show it was intended to be, I think it would have been successful in trying to soft reboot Gundam. There's a ton of stuff I really like about this, but the execution is lacking because of course it is, and judging it as is without considering hypotheticals, I'd probably put it about on par or just a hair above Char's Counterattack. It has almost the exact same pacing problems I had with that movie, but because it's effectively a clean slate and a single, unconnected, complete narrative, it winds up being a less frustrating watch.
Tumblr media
Next up: Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory! This one is a coin flip, because I don't think I've ever heard a single complementary thing about this outside of Cima Garahau's design and the fact that it's a beautiful 90's anime OVA, but it takes place in a timeframe (smack between 0079 and Zeta) that is just so rich with potential that even if it's bad, it should at the very least be interesting.

I want to know you bettah. A favourite character and ship for each Digiseason
Funny, Anon!!!!!! ~~~~~ I don’t really have defined opinions on the series that come after the first four, with the exception of Appmon and Ghost Game. So, sorry if I will skip those other three!
Adventure 01
• Mimi: My princess💕. Along with Katara from ATLA, she’s my own definition of what a girl character should be written like, but I don’t think you want to read long explanations😂.
• Michi: Mimi was a second mc by Taichi’s side. I feel like she had a mirror role in comparison with Taichi’s, as if she’s some sort of girl icon for the franchise. I don’t know how to explain it, but she has got so much presence in the anime, in the merch, in posters; she is voiced by AIM which allowed her to have her own ending, and somehow it feels like this fact makes her omnipresent in the history of the Digimon anime. Wishful thinking, but I like them together because of so many other reasons. THEY JUST CLICK SO WELL.
-Adventure 02
•Miyako: I know I know, she’s not that jewel of character when it comes to her writing, bur her concept has always intrigued me even when I didn’t know Digimon that well. She’s funny, clever, she’s connected with Mimi, she’s also got such a cute design ngl. Can I say she’s my favourite because of these shallow reasons? I think I will find many others when I rewatch 02.
• Daiyako: MY GUILTY PLEASURE. They’re so precious in each other’s regards, always being in the middle of teasing sessions but eventually showing to care about each other so much ? They can work platonically too, and I love pairings that are amazing both platonically and romantically.
-Tamers
KINDA HARD, I will admit it. I like the characters from Tamers but I don’t feel that connected to them. I used to have a huge adoration for Jenrya but it faded somehow. I like Ruki and Hirokazu but not that excessively. I relate to Juri sometimes but she has got so many moments that make me cringe out. It’s … A complex relationship…
• Takato: Again, I’m not THAT attached to him but he is a huge cinnamoroll and a great new beginning for the franchise. I like he’s so ordinary and creative, because…I can relate🤣. And I admit people often call me a girl Takato, sooooo🤣. Like you can see, I don’t have anything to say ahahahha.
• Rukato: MY BBIES, my bbies who are so pleasant at the sight too, thanks to their matching palettes. I confess I come from being a huge Jenruki shipper. Then, I’ve grown bored of those two and I’ve started getting so attracted by Ryouki and Rukato, but the latter eventually won especially because of Runaway Locomon. How could I keep myself from shipping those two after that film? I know there’s Jurato, but the future dramas made me dislike the way things develop…
-Frontier
• Junpei: my only prince son💕
• Junzumi.
.
SHOULD I REALLY SAY SOMETHING, C’MON🤣💕💕💕💕💕
- Appmon
• Eri: I like how she finally brought back a kind of digigirl who could be considered a real character with an interesting story, a nice and quirky personality, meaningful relationships. I had got tired of so many sexualized and pretty uninspiring digigirls (starting from Frontier era SIGH).
Eeeeh I don’t know. I liked Eri and Torajirou but I’ve discovered he’s 11 and she’s 14, so ehmmmmm. Even if the anime pushed it a bit, maybe it’s not the case to ship them ahaha.
I’ll go with • Haru x Yuujin because they are a parallel Jurato✨.
-Ghost Game
• Emma: I KNOW SHE IS NOT PART OF THE TRIO AND SHE APPEARED FOR LESS THAN AN EPISODE, but she ensnared me and makes me salty whenever I see her, because she would have been a perfect four member. Leave me alone, I need to cry and mope.
• Ruri x Kiyoshiro: The total flop this shipping was because in GG the kids had 0 interesting interactions and I want to cry again, because why is that anime so unfair. Still, I ship them, I don’t care. Ruri had her small teasing moments with Kiyoshiro and their personalities CLASH. Idk Ruri would take him to the worst night trips in forests, parks and he would tag along because Jellymon’s and Ruri’s personalities are so perfectly aligned!
Thank you for the ask!💕

1. The Disaster Tourist: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
An interesting and thought provoking plot that introduced and explored a range of perspectives on what, I hope, is the no-longer-shadowy world of disaster tourism. I was impressed with the simplicity and ease with which the protagonist and reader were quickly immersed in vividly precarious world. It was both strange and disturbingly real. It was somewhat predictable, but there were a number of well developed characters considering the length of the story, and though I’m not normally a fan of ambiguity, it made a pleasant change to confront a protagonist whose fate/motivations/character are never explicitly revealed or judged. The reader is left to draw their own conclusions, to evaluate their own opinions.
2. Redhead by the Side of the Road: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A slow one, but poignant and, for me, definitely one that resonated personally. A powerful, bittersweet, but ultimately hopeful ending, which honestly... I needed. The characters made the novel, and though I don’t think this book is for everyone, I found warmth and humour and understanding in Tyler’s words that make me want to read more of her work.
3. Things we Say in the Dark: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A really fun seasonal read with a unique and compelling and clever structure. I genuinely can’t choose a favourite story/section; I found the collection to be very cohesive and consistently strong. Logan is a skilled writer easily able to inspire fear, dread, anxiety, disgust, and a host of other heart-pounding sensations. I chose to rate it as I did purely because I felt the tropes and tone were too familiar, though I suspect this has more to do with me becoming slightly desensitised and needing to increase the diversity of my reading choices - or at least switch more frequently between genres. That being said, I really want to read more of Logan’s books!
4. The Death of Vivek Oji: ⭐️⭐️
Struggling to articulate exactly why, but this just... didn’t sit well with me. There was some wonderful explorations of themes such as loyalty, honesty, identity, and family, but it was heavy. Bleak. I understand that stories like this are important, necessary, and that we cannot always have happy or even hopeful endings, but I’ve read too many similar tragedies. There was no payoff for the emotional investment, and it’s difficult to invest in the first place when you know the fate of the protagonist from the beginning, and the protagonist seems... content with that fate? Maybe I just read this at the wrong time. (Pro tip: don’t read sad books when you’re sad!)
5. Ghosted: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Some wonderful character development throughout, and definitely made a significant emotional impact. I do feel that the story drew on slightly longer than necessary, but the reader was kept guessing and I was happy enough to follow the clues and reflect on the myriad relationships and characters offered.
6. White Ivy: ⭐️⭐️
I was disappointed by this book, which had such a promising premise, and started so strongly! Yang is, no doubt, a skilled writer, but it was challenging to persist with a story in which none of the characters seemed to have any notable, let alone likeable, traits. The pacing felt off, and I found myself wanting to skim through most of the book whilst other significant moments seemed to be passed over without making the impact they could have. Though it wasn’t a bad read, it didn’t feel like anything new or remarkable.
7. Earthlings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ok, so this book is definitely not for everyone, and anyone picking it up expecting another Convenience Store Woman is... in for a shock™️! Please research content/trigger warnings before reading! Heartbreaking and heartwarming and disturbing and, yes, gross, this will satisfy your need for something strange. It was a good palette cleanser (or warper) after some underwhelming and sluggish recent reads, and left me with a not-unpleasant out of body sensation wondering wtf I’d just read. Simply put, this was my jam.
8. Our Wives Under the Sea: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First, a very unrelated note: I read and finished this in the course on one stormy, muggy night which definitely set The Mood™️. I’m not quite sure how to discuss this book. Armfield has captured the sea itself: something vast and unfathomable, changeable, consuming, incomprehensible, and primordial. Dreamy and viscerally, elementally haunting, Our Wives is surreal, horror adjacent, but hits in a very tangible way. I personally loved the style, and the dual perspective and relatively short chapters made what could have been a slow read a very easy one. Through a fantastical lens, Armfield invites us to explore ideas about relationships, communication, trauma, and grief, loss, and reality. A lot is up for interpretation, and I think you could find something new in this book with every re-read.
9. Becoming My Sister: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Okay, so on the scale of ‘normal’ to ‘introduced to V. C. Andrews at a wildly inappropriate age by a mother who clearly had no memory of the book she’d just given her daughter, and no way to anticipate the oncoming obsession’, it’s pretty clear where I fall. Personally I’ve never been disappointed by an Andrews book, and this one was no exception. The writing is witty and thrilling and subtly eerie, and Andrews is absolutely fantastic at drawing the reader into the grip of twisted, claustrophobic family dynamics. Her characters are lifelike, haunted and haunting. She has a singular understanding of the pain and beauty of girlhood, womanhood, and coming of age. I would almost describe this as a ‘guilty pleasure’ read but honestly I’m not sorry. No shame.
10. Ghosts: ⭐️⭐️
Such a promising premise, and so many elements I can usually connect with, but... I think this is just a story I’m tired of reading. It was vague/disconnected and judgemental in a way that reduced the impact of the book overall, at least for me. There was little to humanise or identify in the protagonist (or indeed most of the characters), and I felt the most interesting aspects of the book were not given the focus they deserved, both of which meant key emotional moments fell flat for me. I think for the right person, at the right time, this is a beautiful and moving story; that person just wasn’t me.

ask thing!!! 🙃, 🌈, 🌊?
Artist ask meme
🙃 Which is easier: faces facing left, right, or front view?
Left and right are the same, but I favor one over the other if the character has hair parted to the side lol 😂 like I love to draw Aymeric facing right (the viewer's right) otherwise his curly bangs cover up a good bit of his face, for example. Same thing with Zenos, too much hair on his left side so he has to face right. Front view shouldn't be hard but I struggle with symmetry on the nose especially.. can't capture the full magnitude of the big noses I'm drawing when it's from the front, not as enjoyable and my hand tries to shift the nose a little to one side and it's always a disaster
🌈 Do you use more warm or cold colors?
I tend to prefer warm colors when I'm picking colors, but I almost always shade with cool colors. I use masked layers set to multiply or hard light with lowered opacity and make them purple, indigo, or blue usually, and it has a nice effect on top of warm colors. Warm colors are just prettier imo, brown is my favorite color so I tend to put a lot of brown, orange, and red in things when I can! And I use yellow on an overlay, add, or soft light layer for highlights usually, if I'm not just outright color picking them from the image itself.
If for some reason I absolutely need to use a cold palette for the character though, then I tend to shade in pink or red.
🌊 What’s the hardest thing for you to draw?
Legs and feet, I think? I mean I feel like that's really apparent in my art lol. The thing is that I look to my own reflection or the people around me for reference before looking up references online and because I have very very big (and short) legs and flat feet, my perception of what those body parts look like on the average person are a bit skewed. It's fine drawing my own hands because I think those are quite pleasant to look at, same with my own ear or the patterns in which hair shows up on my body. That all translates fine! But trying to drawing legs or feet that don't look like my own is a big big struggle!!
It's been refreshing lately drawing more fat characters though because I feel like it comes really naturally to me, though I always second guess myself on whether I'm going too far with it (afraid of like, people calling it unflattering because so many people don't like the look even though that's how I look)
And outside of human anatomy, I would say perspective is a big struggle for me. I don't like math or planning, I feel like it makes my art very stiff. I want to work on it more and find a way to incorporate more interesting perspectives and angles without compromising the expressiveness of my art!

Game 243- Borderlands 2 by Gearbox Software
Tumblr media
What did I think it was at first? So I've played some of this in sporadic co-op with friends, but never got too into the story. I thought "hmm, I wonder if I should buy the little mech girl so I can try the game a new way?" and then saw that the everything collection was like 8 bucks so hell yess.
Going back to my original experience with Borderlands, maybe this will be better?
Tumblr media
How was the character creator? Similar to the original game, you choose from classes (6 now!) and a head/color palette for your character. I specifically upgraded to play the Mechromancer as I have played the Siren previously and I didn't love it. My husband described the Mechromancer gameplay by saying that "people on the internet called it girlfriend mode", and while I don't love the implications of that statement I found it to b e a pretty easy class? It was fun enough but I steamrolled a lot of combat, which was probably good as I was playing solo.
I do very much like that she screams "It's robot fighting time." I love Battlebots.
Tumblr media
How was the game? I still really love the art style of the game. This game starts out in an arctic wasteland, and it's gorgeous. The music is spare, but it does come in strongly to give a "wandering the wasteland" vibe.
Most of the praise I have for this game comes in with the shooting controls. I played on a controller and never for a moment felt like I was at a disadvantage. There is some snap-to targeting, but it's subtle and made me feel like I was good at the game. The actual gun mechanics are pleasant to play with.
I never felt like the encounters were too easy or too hard - and I played solo for my experience for this blog. There's a huge diversity to weapons if you care about min/maxing but it's not my thing.
Tumblr media
What did I not love? I found a lot more in Borderlands 2 that I didn't like than that I liked.
The cars suck. They are not fun to drive, they get stuck on stuff constantly, and this jump will reappear in my nightmares. I get that it's fun to ride and gun, but I have no friends Gearbox.
The questing mechanic feels dry after the first 30 minutes. Go shoot this thing. Turn in the quest. Get the next one. Go shoot some more stuff on the way. Shoot the thing. Repeat.
Lastly, and most significantly, the disability rep here is bad. Some folks do have cool prosthetics, but there's derogatory language for physical and mental disability for the enemies and it comes off as a punch-down type of joke. The game is from 2012. We knew better then.
Tumblr media
At 6 hours and $7.99, was it really worth it? Borderlands games just don't seem to be for me. I made myself play until I got to Sanctuary, and I felt like I was forcing myself to do it. If your tastes line up to mine, you'll probably feel the same.

i am so, so sorry for not getting back to you after that ask, life threw so much my way and i just got done handling 70% of it ;; but i shall be on regularly from now on, though it's only like. 2 days until christmas :c i will make sure to spend until the 30th/31st getting to know you better, i genuinely apologize once more!
you and your brother are so cute, though 🥹 i really love the number 2 myself. it's ironic how i used to hate it when i was younger because i would always get second (in) everything (2nd place at end-of-year evaluations, am the second child, would always get the second row/column seating, etc.) fjkdsdkf then i just grew to adore the little guy hehe omg that's such a pleasant colour palette⏤you must've been pretty happy with most photoshoot colour schemes and in tcc: freeze era! ah, runaway + long haired-hyuka... i totally understand 😌 that's personally my favourite era, but yeah, pre-debut and debut year were such fond days for me too :')
do you have more than one bias/a bias wrecker? also! your favourite season + txt album! ⏤ ☃️
omg no worries ! my bad too for not responding 😭 we have family over and my adorable little cousin has not let me go since she got here ahah take your time !! i hope you had a lovely (and restful!) holiday ❤️
my brother and i are certainly a pair even if we don’t talk that much we’re always there for each other when someone does need to talk and i’m very grateful for that ♡ there was this rhyme when i was little about first being the worst and second being the best and i definitely took that to heart even when my brother was top of his class and i was usually second or third
txt definitely own pastel colours!! the tdc star blue and yellow plus the blue hour blue will forever be iconic
ooh and as for bias i am so unloyal 😭 i think originally i was kai biased soobin wrecked but beomgyu has been creeping up on me ! and omg taehyun’s your fancams kept mysteriously appearing on my feed 🫣 plus yeonjun high fashion icon he has suchh a drawable face plus his gg dance covers go so incredibly hard but it really depends on the day for me though at the end of the day i’ll always be ot5 🩵🩵
i say i like winter but having just moved out of southern california i’ve realised winter means something very different up north and maybe i just like the fleeting weeks of spring instead
ooh and i have had tnc temptation on repeat these days ! though thursday’s child, blue hour, and tdc star are others i keep coming back to and i need to give tnc freefall another listen! i heard it briefly one morning and added the songs to my playlists but haven’t quite listened closely to each of them together as an album
thanks again for dropping in ! i hope you’re having a safe and happy holiday season 🫶🫶

Thoughts of Hometown
Mucha's initial 4★ story (3/3) ( 1 - 2 - 3 )
Location: park (morning) | Characters: Mucha, Aoi/MC
Tumblr media
Aoi: It's so pleasant…! The weather is so nice.
Mucha: It is. Sometimes it is nice to spend time in a place like this.
Aoi: Indeed. I haven't had a chance to sit on a park bench and dawdle lately.
Mucha: It is so easy to forget to take a day off and inadvertently end up working.
Aoi: Hahaha…
Mucha: I have prepared a very special treat for you today, miss deputy director.
Tumblr media
Mucha: … Here.
Aoi: This is…?
Mucha: It is a baked good called trdelník². Please try it.
Aoi: Wow… Thank you very much! I'll eat it immediately.
… Mmh, it's delicious! The surface is crunchy, but the inside is chewy…! It tastes rustic and somewhat comforting. I've never had anything like this before…!
Mucha: I am glad you like it. Actually, this is a pastry from my hometown. I love it too and used to eat it all the time when I was back home.
Aoi: ! I didn't know that! I wondered why I had never seen it before.
Mucha: Because it is not sold in Palette City. I prepared this for you to enjoy.
Aoi: Ah… Sorry to bother you. Thank you for taking such good care of me…
Mucha: No, do not worry about it. Because this is my own selfishness.
Aoi: Huh…?
Mucha: I took you out to the park and gave you sweets because I wanted to. However, if you are so pleased with my work, then I will be selfish.
Aoi: (I'm sure he's just saying that so I don't feel bad… Mucha-san has always been a great help to me. I wish I could do something for him. But I hardly know anything about him…)
.... This isn't something you can call selfish.
Mucha: Is it?
Aoi: I don't know much about you, Mucha-san. Please tell me. What do you wish for? What do you want me to do for you? It's okay to be more selfish.
Mucha: … Really?
Aoi: Yes. Anything you want!
Mucha: I see… Then–
Aoi: Uh…!?
(Mucha-san's head is on my shoulder…!)
U-Uhm… Mucha-san, what are you…?
Mucha: It is a beautiful day and I thought I would try to get some sleep. Thank you for your shoulder.
... I was allowed to be selfish, am I right?
Aoi: That's true, but…
Mucha: You should not be too quick to speak your mind, okay? I may have been too late in advising you.
Aoi: …!
Mucha-san, you're really mean, aren't you?
Mucha: Fufufu, you think so?
Aoi: (Mucha-san… Looks like he's having too much fun…!)
(I didn't think he would go this far... But now that I've said it, I can't refuse…)
Mucha: … I'm always just living the way I want to live.
Aoi: ? Is that so…?
Mucha: Yes, I also prepared sweets from my hometown. I was contradicting myself with my words and actions…
Aoi: Speaking of which… The other day you said you didn't want to tell anyone about your hometown.
Mucha: Yes... But I wanted to tell you a little bit about it. It was a roundabout way of doing it.
Aoi: I’m happy. I feel like I got to know you a little better, Mucha-san.
Mucha: …
Aoi: I'd really like to know more, though. So that I may be able to help you.
Mucha: … Please forgive me.
Aoi: No. I don't mind. If you feel like talking, then talk. About your hometown. And yourself.
Mucha: ... As I thought, being by your side makes my heart waver.
Aoi: Huh…?
Mucha: …
Aoi: Mucha-san?
(... Did he fall asleep? I'm curious, but I'd feel bad if I woke him up.)
(He must be tired from always doing so many different jobs. He's always totally seamless, maybe he's just uptight.)
Mucha-san... Have a good rest.
Mucha: … Thank you very much.
Aoi: … Uh? Y-You're awake!?
Mucha: I am. In the first place, I was not sleepy at all.
Aoi: Mucha-san…! So you were just pretending!
Mucha: Fufu, I am sorry. I was wondering what your reaction would have been.
... I think it reminded me a little bit of the peace of home. It was thanks to you.
Aoi: That must have been nice…
Mucha: Well, there is still some trdelník left. While eating this, please tell me a lot about your hometown.
Home is where the heart heals. Let's take a short rest together with our hometowns in mind.
Aoi: Well then. My hometown is–
²: Trdelník is a kind of spit cake. It is made from rolled dough that is wrapped around a stick, then grilled and topped with sugar and walnut mix. [Source: Wikipedia] It's a Czech sweet, so it's a sweet from Mucha's hometown. And fun fact, it's also Mucha's favourite food!

seungyouns album finally came in today so i will do a little review as i listen whilst unboxing
deep deep sleep: 6/10. this song is cute, nothing groundbreaking, very frank ocean vibes, which would be an interesting direction for seungyoun to go in. i don't care for the opening vocal effects, and i prefer the verses to the chorus, which is a bit repetitive for me. i think it's a strange choice to go with this as an opener to the album because it's literally the only R&B song on an album that is otherwise entirely rock, and also as the title implies, it's quite sleepy and does not do a lot to hype you to listen to the rest of the album. i feel like the only reason it's the opener is because it's short...
journey (title track): 5.5/10. okay this would not have been my choice for the title track because it's downtempo and literally christian as fuck. my god when the choir came in at the end i couldn't believe how christian it was, and then the instrumentation dropped out so the choir could sing acapella and it somehow became even more christian in its final moments. idk, i actually don't have anything against christian kpop songs, for example I love shine by drippin. and waiting for us by skz is also very christian rock, it's not my favorite but it doesn't grate on me like journey. and the issue is not necessarily the choir itself because that has been used to great effect in other songs particularly my sea by iu. i think maybe the issue is in trying to blend these different flavors of cheese, we end up with something that overwhelms the palette. anyway i like the guitar riffs in the beginning, and seungyoun's vocal performance is great as always, i just can't see myself returning to this often, the ending of it is very difficult for me to tolerate. i'm glad you found god i guess???? but this song is ultimately forgettable imo...
drowning: 7.5/10. okay finally some good fucking food. this exists in the same universe as 'journey' for sure, it's just a straightforward rock song that's more upbeat and has ACTUAL HOOKS. i don't have much more to say about it, it's not reinventing the wheel or anything it's just a good woodz song, like a lot of the material from 'colorful trauma.'
busted: 9/10. WEIRD ASS SONG and you know i love it when he gets a little weird with it. i guess to me this is woodz at his best, when he is between rock and electropop and bringing this kinda frenetic energy. also WE GET RAPPER WOODZ ON THIS if only for a moment, massive slay. weird ass song that comes in and screams at you and climaxes and then dips as quickly as it came. chorus could easily grate on me but it doesn't, i think just because there is so much else going on in this song. mixed, weird-ass bag. love it!!
who knows: 8.5/10. YEAHHHH ROCKKKK!!!! reminds me of the best songs from 'colorful trauma.' really fun call/response structure, i would love to see this performed live. i feel the inspiration for this one is, interestingly, rage against the machine. RATM and frank ocean on the same album is really. interesting!!!
ready to fight: 5/10 omg i just can't with this. can they just let him say fuck? is it that hard? it REALLY takes the wind out of his sails when he can't even say fuck on his "fuck you" song. also this being like. a country rock song. idk. i didn't need to hear woodz version of p!nk "so what." god i bet he loves that song. ohhh my god seungyoun..... idk hes just so sensitive i don't believe hes ever been in a fight in his life... more like ready to cry.....
abyss: 7.5/10, this was the prelease track and it's nice and pleasant, I vastly prefer it to journey... but it's also not terribly exciting and wouldn't have been my choice for a single either.
idk, i clearly have different tastes from his new management in terms of what side of him to promote. my favorite tracks are his most quirky and offbeat and they seem to want him a bit more... family-friendly I guess? wider appeal for a more general audience? (which is also why he can't say fuck, i guess.) that being said, there are a couple of really great songs on this album so i'm happy with that. strongly recommend listening to busted and who knows !!!

reflect & review
12 Feb 2023
Woke up at 7.40am, there was no rain so I quickly put on my running clothes and went out. I went cycling yesterday. M passed by and never said hi, anymore. Today I saw him again and thought, maybe one day he will say hi again.
As I ran in front of the school, SC ran passed me. It was really him, I later saw him stopped at RR with friends. I texted him to confirm that was him  and chatted a bit. He asked me out again, which I’m not sure what is the intention. It felt kind of flirty but I’m not ready to be “over-friendly”  to another married guy.
Took the MRT to KL, I was busy deleting photos and videos to make space in my phone. My timing today was perfect, I reached the venue 10 minutes before my booking time. Glad I made it to the exhibition in KL. I enjoyed that quiet time very much,  reading every description at my own time, flipping through the books on display and get inspiration for logo designs. Had some time to reflect how I feel about work now, that I’ve been so busy on weekends I don’t get to slow down and grow new ideas. I’m feeling exhausted.
I also enjoyed having lunch by myself. The thali set was very satisfying. Even the sweet dessert was pleasant.
After lunch, I went to museum T to check out the event, it was quite sad, but the museum had been revamped, not too fancy but improved a lot from the time I visited more than 10 years ago. After that I walked through the old shophouses, to RKL, then to bookstore. Glad I stopped by, I got at least 2 new ideas in there, and one is to upcycle my protein shake bottle into knife holder. I felt smart. Also, I’m gonna buy that colour book the next time I visit this bookstore, very easy to find beautiful colour combination and it comes with the CMYK and pantone code. I remember having a similar book so I didn’t buy, but after checking the one I bought in Nanjing, I decided I should buy this one as well. It will be very useful to find colour palette for new projects.
I felt ready to go home even though I was still searching for ice cream, but I was ok. I came back to shower and had a nap. Woke up, cooked dinner, and made my knife holder. Ok done reporting coz I’m going to sleep.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐑.
Tumblr media
▸ demon brothers ▸ season 2
Tumblr media
▸ how I would dress these heathens because lets all be honest with ourselves, some all of them lack so much taste it is embarrassing. ▸ I am not taking any criticism because my taste is impeccable.
Tumblr media
🫀|| 𝐋𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐅𝐄𝐑
The fur coat he regularly wears unjustly weights him down so we are switching it out for a classic cut suit jacket, double breasted or not, a full three piece suit, coordinated unlike the restaurant uniform he's stuck in, with the right cut would look perfect on him. All of it in black as usual, with a red lining and a red tie would be perfect. And of course we can't forget his infamous gloves, which would be actual leather, paired with a shiny pair of black leather shoes.
Tumblr media
🫀|| 𝐌𝐀𝐌𝐌𝐎𝐍
Out with those imitator cowboy boots and bicolored leather jacket. This man has a waist and we're gonna use it. Preppy loose shirts in various colours and patterns, short sleeved are preferable but I'm not too opposed to the longer ones either as long as the cut is loose, tucked into a nice pair of high waisted and belted pants, not skinny jeans, pants. With a looser cut and cuffed at the bottom. I am not set on shoes yet, but for now I am considering some nice Chelsea boots.
Tumblr media
🫀|| 𝐋𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍
He seems to be trying to dress like a video game idol with all those out of place accessories and I honestly think a more basic style would be much better for him. We are putting an end to all the layering by switching to a neutrals palette of basic loose graphic tees, both anonymous or with anime prints, as long as they're not too outrageous, and some loose knee cut shorts. I think he'd look absolutely lovely showing off some leg.
Tumblr media
🫀|| 𝐒𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐍
First of all he needs to learn to wear sleeves properly, then that under a cardigan you wear shirts, not t-shirts. Second we're muting those bright green tones and switching out the black for some dark brown, softening the entire ensemble to have a more dark academia vibe, filled with madras and tartans and thick fabrics. Some nice high collared cardigans and wool sweaters and long coats coupled with some nice fitting shirts never unbuttoned too low.
Tumblr media
🫀|| 𝐀𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐔𝐒
Here I can absolutely go crazy to my own heart's contempt, all those awful early 2000s looking clothes get thrown in the trash, especially that skinny scarf, for an upgrade. We are talking corsets, heels, beaded and bedazzled fabrics both in pants and shirts and coats, the more extravagant and androgynous looking the better. And no outfit is complete without the right jewellery and a matching nail set.
Tumblr media
🫀|| 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐙𝐄𝐁𝐔𝐁
Now, his actual wardrobe isn't too far off for what I want to see him in but it's still not quite there. I want him in bright neon and primary colours, not in dark and muddy ones, we're talking reds, oranges, yellows and greens. I'd like to maintain the sporty vibe, knowing he also does need mobility and comfort most of all, with some nice streetwear and maybe techwear, but never too overly complicated. The cherry on top are a pair of sneakers like some jordans or air forces.
Tumblr media
🫀|| 𝐁𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐆𝐎𝐑
Now, Belphegor requires comfort most of all, and I still can't fucking fathom how he manages to do that with those stringed up boots that run up to the knee, which are also absolutely hideous if I say so myself. If he wanted to look like he just rolled out of bed, he succeeded. But I'd like to make it look a bit more pleasant, with a palette of black and greys in the form of loose fitting pants and large shirts and sweaters, decorated with cryptic and unsettling designs.

Summary: Satoru loves painting you. (painter!Gojo au)
Characters: Painter!Gojo x Reader
Word count: 491
A/N: Wrote this on a whim but I think this may be one of my favorite works of myself now. Makes me miss painting. Should I go back to painting and drawing?
Tumblr media
“Sit still, princess. Just like that. I want this one to be perfect,” Satoru orders. The brush in his hands dances across the canvas elegantly, spreading the most vibrant colors on the whiteness. With this, Satoru is completely in his element: painting. Obediently, you sit as still as possible. Tilting your head slightly, as he wanted you to, you gaze out of the window right behind him. The sunset right before your eyes. The scratching sound of the bristles is the only sound in the room. It feels nostalgic and you can’t help but to think of the many times he asked you to model for him.
“Aren’t you a pretty one? The prettiest. And just for me to enjoy like this, isn’t that right, sweets?” The praises for you seem to roll off his tongue as he mixes two colors on his artist palette, an artwork on its own if you will, with his brush. A smile stretches your lips as you nod. “Ah-ah, I said to stay still,” he reminds you, attempting to sound harsh but you know exactly: when he’s in his mood, he always sounds so soft.
He hums a pleasant tune.
Satoru looks focused, so very focused, brows slightly knitting together but you can tell he enjoys this a lot from the way his cerulean eyes seem to glimmer even more than usual. Like a deep blue in the clear sky. A pleased look graces his features as his hand works its magic on the once-blank canvas in front of him. You can’t see it but you are sure it looks gorgeous. It always does whenever he paints you.
“Say, Satoru, why do you enjoy painting me so much?” you ask after a while, curiosity sparking. The man blinks at you from underneath the tinted shades he wears. For a moment, he halts all his movements, thinking of what to say.
“I’m afraid I don’t know how to explain it in proper words,” he finally admits.
“I feel at peace when I do. Drawing and painting you, it feels… like watching the serene sea. Although we’re just at home, physically speaking at least, doing this feels like embarking on a journey with you, every time. I feel alive. It’s a thrill, yet it envelops me in a cloak of calmness at the same time. I like the way the sun caresses your skin when you sit like this in front of me, even more than usual; makes you even more ethereal. I love the way I can just bask in your beauty in peace. Makes me feel the need to capture every detail about you. It’s a sensation I never experience with other works, but only when you’re in front of me. It’s bewitching. In simple words, I’m saying that you are my muse and inspiration,” Satoru describes, his brush back on the canvas.
“It’s almost like I’m finding the magic in the colors of you.”

The Miys, Ch. 154
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I was able to get the Master Post cleaned up this morning.  I know there is a reblog going around with some of the links missing... I put that one up originally as a place holder so I could update my page links in chapters 101 through this one.   I did NOT anticipate it would get immediately reblogged, which made me squeak in pleasant surprise.  I’ll reblog the full post so everyone has the right one.
Also, thanks to @baelpenrose, @the-raven-fae, and @charlylimph-blog for keeping me going and all your help beta-reading and checking my links.  You three are the real heroes here!
“The quiet rooms are done,” Hannah yawned the next morning. “It’s a good thing we decided to make them available immediately, because the first one had people scheduling time before we finished the second one.”
“How many did we end up with?” I asked, pushing down my own urge to yawn. I had always prided myself on being able to resist the urge to yawn when others did, and I wasn’t letting that stop now.
The model of the Ark came up on the table emitter, and Hannah zoomed in on the highlighted areas. “Right now, we have twelve, just like you set up for the second Food Festival. But I’ll be honest, they rooms are already booked for the foreseeable future, and I don’t think that’s tenable.”
“Agreed. I’ll talk to the rest of the Council, but at this point, we need to see about setting all available spaces for quiet rooms.” I nodded and added that note to my agenda. “Moving on, food vendors being allowed in BioLab2. Any updates?”
Parvati flicked the data to everyone. “Grey isn’t thrilled with the possibility that the food will contaminate the aquatics, but is willing to allow vendors in ‘The Fairy Circle’?” She gave me a questioning look. “They said you would know what that meant.”
I just smiled and shook my head. “It’s where I go camping. Conor managed to pull off a prank that fooled even Charly and made a Faerie circle.  It’s a good choice, though: ten, eleven feet across, accessible, and far enough from the water that there wouldn’t be any risk.”
She rolled her eyes and smiled. “Credit to Conor on that one. But, Grey was very enthusiastic about the idea of setting up some picnic tables throughout the woods and letting people bring picnics.”
“I already have some vendors on board, there,” I breathed in relief. “Especially the ones who specialize in the type of foods that lend themselves well to being portable.”
Hannah’s face lit up. “Do we get to taste test some of these? I’m really getting some bento box and pasty vibes from what you just said, and I’m not sure which I’m more excited about.”
“I think I can get that to happen,” I laughed. “I wouldn’t mind trying some of the options myself, but I can at least already confirm that all bases are covered for dietary requirements. Next up, where are we on the holiday date?”
“Still working with the other departments to finalize a date where all projects can be completed, paused, or at least at a point where they don’t require direct observation. Everyone is on board, though.”
“That’s the biggest hurdle,” I confirmed. “Means we can proceed with at least putting the rest of the events together in preparation for the final date. I trust you two in handling the party aspect of it, and Charly is already working Bash on another Kink Night event at the Undine - minimal planning needed there. So, let’s figure out who is coordinating the paint-tag fight, and we can loop back to the plans for the party.”
“While I am entirely sure Charly can handle planning for both the paint tag and the other - seeing as both were her ideas - it doesn’t feel fair to leave them both entirely on her shoulders,” Hannah agreed. “It says here that you already had Conor confirm we missed Holi?
“By about six months,” I confessed. “So we’re pretty much both too late and too early.”
“I do believe the arrows would be frowned upon, in any event,” Parvati joked. “I still have her paint formulas - flavors are not listed, but there is a distinct lack of both black and yellow.”
“Those were… scotch bonnet for the black, I know that one. I think the yellow was gochujang, which would still hurt if you got it in your eyes,” I recalled.
She flicked her hands, bracelets chiming. “I will ask for a new formula for yellow, but I think we can live without black paint. The yellow was lovely, though.”
“Ask nicely, and she’ll probably give you the glitter formula colors, which I think are different flavors from the regular palette,” I suggested. “And the glitter is ultra-violet reactive, so that’ll be fun.”
Emphatic stabbing at her datapad ensued - impressive, because it wasn’t even physically there, just emitted from the band on her wrist. “Once I have those, I believe Hannah and I can coordinate that along with the party.  There is no food component, it is only for one day, so the scope is far smaller than the Festival was.”
“And besides,” Hannah added with a shrug, “whip up some paints and some spongy balls to soak it up, set boundaries, invite anyone who wants to attend. Planning done.” She dusted her hands off for emphasis, but she had a point.
“I’ve got the care packages well underway, so we’re solid there. The party. What’s the plan there?”
Parvati dismissed the schematic from the table emitter and sent a different image to it. This one was practically the opposite of what I had expected: where I had anticipated Food Festival 2: Pyrotechnic Boogaloo, I was instead looking at a park that I was reasonably certain only existed in dreams.
Soft green grass that my toes wiggled to touch spanned a rolling, looping thoroughfare. Trees arched overhead like an arbor, and were either woven with lights are absolutely covered in fireflies.  Between breaks in the canopy, a night sky filled with more stars than I had seen in my living memory.  Here and there small braziers burned brightly with fire, resting on sturdy rugs and dotted around with cushions.
“Vati,” I whispered hoarsely. “We can’t use BioLab2 for this, can we? Will Grey allow it?”
“We can, and they are.” Her smile was the feral one that usually preceded a coup de grace of event planning. “This, however, is not BioLab2.  This is the corridors of levels twelve through fourteen, leading into the lab.”
My first urge was to guess what she was planning, but my mind came up blank. I circled around my desk to stand closer to the table. “Okay, talk to me. Make it make sense.”
She nodded. “The grass is real, laid down like sod. The terraforming teams have agreed to let us use it, provided we allow them to collect data on how it holds up to so much foot traffic and include a post-event question regarding the tactile feel on bare feet.  So, bare feet they shall have.” She winked when I realized she and Hannah were going to make it part of the theme. “The trees are an illusion, simple light emitters against the corridor walls, combined with the existing texture of the surface.”
When she moved the image to mimic walking further down the path, Hannah picked up. “The larger spaces are actually where the corridors are longer between quiet rooms. Rather than trying to pull off the tree illusion, we’re going to create a  night sky with shooting stars, comets, the works.  Like a dream.”
“I like it. It’s not what I was expecting, but I’m even more impressed for that.”
“We couldn’t compete with Charly,” Parvati confessed. “She is already going to have our base desires covered.  Anything we tried to do would look like a pale imitation. So, we went the other direction: What else do we do to feel alive?”
“We dream,” I laughed. “It’s all a fairy tale dream, isn’t it?”
“That’s the goal,” Hannah confirmed. “A beautiful dream. One day and one night where you can live out your humanity however you want, without having to compromise.  If someone wants to throw paint with childish abandon, then stroll and dance through a dream, and finish the night at the Undine trying something they never dared to do before, they can do that.”
“When you put it like that, it sounds decadent.”
“I was going for hedonistic, over all, but you’re on the right track,” Parvati laughed. “Hannah and I agreed that everyone on the Ark needed one perfect day.  And since perfect is different for everyone…” She shrugged. “We just decided to give them all the options.  The quiet rooms will be open if their perfect includes a botanical garden, or a cloud… the mess halls will be open if it means a feast, or even just decadent hors d'oeuvres they could never make an excuse to try. It’s literally all on the table.”
“Consider it signed off on.” I still couldn’t take my eyes off that grass, toes wiggling happily. “Just let me know the date when we have one, I need a pedicure to enjoy this completely.”

TOP 10 ANIME (that I've seen) IN 2021)
Just like the title suggests, this is a list of the anime I've seen during 2021 and are not necessarily ones that came out that year. My hope in doing lists like these is to provide recommendations for any anime of any year. Here we go!
(Holy crap, my is sort of on time this year!)
Honorable Mentions: K-On!!, Beastars S2
10. When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace (2014)
Tumblr media
I could be simplistic and just say that this is a harem show where the main protag is a chuunibyo...but that's exactly what it is. Unfortunately, this show falls to the bottom of the list because it's one of those shows that's more of a commercial for the original source material and it ends before the actual plot starts without a second season. Why recommend it? Well, I will give points for the protag for not being a complete idiot, the animation/character designs are pleasant, and the concept of having someone make believe they have powers then suddenly having them is pretty humorous. Plus, there's a good chance that you have seen a clip from this show without realizing it. This show is the home this scene.
9. Seitokai Yakuindomo S1 (2010)
Tumblr media
This show only has one joke. That joke being: what if high school girls were openly perverted? And it's a joke that lands every time. I'll admit it, I enjoyed myself. It's kind of a breath of fresh air having a whole cast of female characters be openly expressive with things of a sexual nature. Sure, there have been harems where, typically, an older woman is more direct with her approach, but for high school girls to have no shame in exploring these kind of things? If it weren't mostly played for laughs, I'd call it a game changer. Even so, I can't wait to start season two this year.
8. Bubuki Buranki (2016)
Tumblr media
I can't even be sure if I like the show this much, but I'm pretty sure Bubuki Buranki is this high up mostly on style points. I'll bring up the elephant in the room: this is a 3D anime (but a 3D anime done well). Character models move around just fine for casual scenes, but is turned up a few notches for the battle choreography! As for story, the set up is paced just fine, but then slams on the gas pedal and never lets up. The show reminded me of the early years of RWBY where the fight scenes were the main draw. If all style shows appeal to you, I'd recommend this one. It even has two seasons!
7. Joshiraku (2012)
Tumblr media
Based off a gag comic, Joshiraku is a series about cute girls performing in a style of a one person theatre known as Rakugo. While I did have fun watching Joshiraku, I'll be honest and say that it's hard for me to suggest it. There's nothing overly wrong with it, the color palette is very pleasing and the humor goes over well. The best way I can put this is to paraphrase a friend of mine, "It's very Japanese." Again, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you are relatively new to the anime scene, this probably won't appeal to you. If you want to give it a shot anyway, I'd say go for it. If you're a seasoned weeb that hasn't seen this yet, definitely seek it out!
6. Higehiro (2021)
Tumblr media
Higehiro is about a young man in his 20s who takes in a runaway high school and helps her get her on the right path and deals with her past. I wish I could bring myself to rank this higher. At the heart of it, the series is really touching and shows that there are still people, albeit rare, that can/will help you out of the goodness of their heart. On the other hand, this show had a habit of picking ill-timed camera angles and framing for certain moments that felt icky. If you're able to ignore those moments and focus on the wholesome parts, give it a watch. If you can't settle for anything less than 100% wholesome, I completely understand.
5. Demon Slayer (2019)
Tumblr media
When it comes to my approach of popular shows, I usually wait until most of the hype dies down before I watch them. With that said, being able to watch with clear eyes unaffected by hype:
it's fine. Just fine.
Yes, Ufotable knocks it out of the park once again with its animation. Yes, most of the characters are fun and likable. And yet, I enjoyed just fine. I honestly don't know what it is, but I just wasn't blown away. Still looking forward to the next arc, though.
4. O Maidens in Your Savage Season (2019)
Tumblr media
Watching a show about high school girls going through their own sexual awakening as a dude, gotta say, I've learned a lot. Not saying I'm an expert, but definitely have a better understanding now than I did beforehand. To further establish my lack of expertise, I'll just give it a high recommendation before I say anything that shows my ignorance.
3. Records of Grancrest War (2018)
Tumblr media
This was the show that got me mad. Not at the show itself, but rather at the several people in the anime community who didn't watch this. I'm not one who's all in on waifu culture, but all y'all slept on this anime! Yes, the waifu game is strong here, but it also has decent animation, large-scale battles, political drama, and allegiances that change! Please check this out. Being three years late is better than never!
2. Den-noh Coil (2007)
Tumblr media
This was an anime that had been stuck on my "Want to Watch" list for YEARS, but finally gave it a watch after I found the whole show on Blu-ray for a good deal! Den-noh Coil takes place in an alternate world where people wear glasses that not only connects to the internet, but allows interactive augmented reality. However, this technology isn't perfect, in fact, it's actually kind of sketchy. It's a sci-fi and supernatural story being led by a group of young girls, which is a combination I don't see often. It's a fun series that surprised me quite a bit and I hope it can surprise you, too!
1. HoriMiya (2021)
Tumblr media
SCREW. BECOMING. A. COUPLE. AT. THE. END.
I want more romance shows that establishes a couple in the first few episodes and shows their growth throughout! Don't get me wrong, I understand the "Will they/won't they" model because it's a tried and true method to tease the audience to come back for more. But when shows like HoriMiya write relationships, it's so much more satisfying. Ahem, sorry. Yes, for all the reasons I just said as well as comedy with great timing, this was my favorite anime I saw in 2021.
