Drabble: What about...

Forgetting to leave Lucifer Morningstar one of your feathers…

There was no time to explain, no time to react. You had to leave, for his and your safety both. To preserve what you both held so dear.

"Wait, love!"

"There's no time, Luci! I'm sorry! We're out of time!"

You opened your wings, feathers rustling like a wave of glitter, ready to shade you from Hell and transport you back to Heaven.

That was until a firm, yet gentle hand gripped the membrane of your left wing.

"You can't leave yet!" He would protest.

"I don't have a choice!" You would snap back, eyes filling with tears. Hellens, how he hated seeing you cry. But you were still beautiful either way.

"Yes you do! There is always a choice, my beloved! Please, j-just...just think rationally. I can talk to them! We can work this out!"

"Not one that won't hurt you. I can't come back to you, Lucifer. Never again. We both knew it would come to this eventually."

"W-Wait, love, j-just- let me speak to them! I can fix this, I promise, I can!" Frantic tears welled in his eyes.

He couldn't lose you.

Not you.

Oh by all the saints above and below, anyone but you.

You offered him a small, sad smile, a subtle tear falling from the corner of your eye, down your cheek then to the silk sheets.

Then, wrapping your wings around yourself, your form disappeared off of his mattress, leaving him grasping for empty air. A soft rain of golden glitter left in your wake, some gently falling onto Lucifer's beautiful blonde hair.

Lucifer almost instantly began letting his hands roam the mattress, searching for the one thing you always left, hoping to cling to you the way he always did once you left him.

Except...

"Oh, no. No, no, no, no..."

The feather.

There wasn't one.

He checked multiple times. He was now certain.

You hadn't left a feather.

You. Hadn't. Left. A. Feather.

a/n: some angst to end the night is always nice. Especially if it’s a series teaser…
