Ice Dance Choreographic Elements Ranked, because you all wanted to know
Basically, in ice dance, there are certain required elements like twizzles, step sequences, and lifts. There are also seven types of “choreographic elements” of which each team can do three of their choice, and I have opinions about which ones they choose
7. Choreographic Assisted Jumps: 2/10 nothingburger
Often a “blink-and-you’ll miss it” affair- just three very short lifts (they’re not even jumps lmao). Some are are super creative and cool (see: Chock and Bates folding human origami). Others are not (see: basically everyone else). Kind of a throwaway element for most, like that one class everyone takes because it’s an easy A
6. Character Choreographic Step Sequence or whatever order those words go in: 4/10 can be fun but also really awkward
Sometimes fun because teams can do basically whatever dance moves they want. Sadly, often what they want is a whole lot of nothing while making dramatic faces at the judges (Turkkila and Versluis have the best character step I’ve seen by far this season with that clock arm move they do while leaning on each other, they understood the assignment) And teams usually make a really awkward stop right by the boards because it has to clearly go across short ways, and it just never flows very nicely with the rest of the program, it’s just kind of a weird time even when otherwise done really well. Gilles and Poirier made it flow pretty nicely tho, good job!
5. Choreographic Twizzling Movement: 5/10 uncommon
Probably the least commonly done because twizzles are hard and teams don’t want to risk messing up, and they don’t really lend themselves well to expressive choreography. Also there are a whole bunch of specific requirements compared to the other choreographic elements. The novelty factor makes them cool to see whenever they do pop up
4. Choreographic Hydroblade: 6/10 new- small sample size
Brand new this season, so I’ve only gotten to see a few. Likely to rise in my rating as I see more. Gilles and Poirier have set the standard
3. Choreographic Slide Move: 8/10 awesome! unless they go for the technicality
So fun to see figure skaters slide on knees and arms and thighs and what have you without the fall deduction they would usually get for doing such things. Sometimes they decide to be lame about it and the “slide” aspect is just a hand down on the ice while otherwise just doing a skating move, but there have been so many cool slide moves ever since it became a thing. They’ll do it as a partial lift, or slide spinning on their knees in hold and then separate while still spinning like Guignard and Fabbri a couple seasons ago, all kinds of fun options, I love love love the one Hawayek and Baker did with her on one knee and him stretching out on the ice with his hand supporting him on her boot
2. Choreographic Lift: 9/10 if it ain’t broke…
The choreographic lift is just an extra lift in the program with fewer rules than the mandatory dance lifts. Just as long as it’s between 3 and 10 seconds long and somebody’s being lifted, they can basically do whatever they want, and the possibilities are endless. A lot of the time, it’s like “whoa they did NOT have to go that hard on an element worth 1.10 base value points” Sometimes they go a little too hard and it’s just kind of over complicated and weird looking, but creativity nonetheless. My favorite at the moment is Lajoie and Lagha where it’s basically a stationary lift and it looks like she’s flying right above the ice with him holding her by one arm and one leg
1. Choreographic Spin Move: 10/10 the best don’t @ me
I’ve never been disappointed by a choreographic spin move. They are just so fun, every single one of them. My favorite by far is the type like Chock and Bates last season where he was standing and holding her by the hand while she was in a near split on the ice, and all the similar ones. Spin moves that seem a lot like a dance spin except somebody’s on two feet are less common and therefore a novelty. Virtue and Moir did that cool fan kick and then spun in a dance hold. So much fun to be had, especially at those Olympics where the spin move was mandatory and we got to see so many creative things. Oh oh! and the one Lim and Quan did last season where he spun her around and dipped her while she was in arabesque, that was so neat! Oh and Lauriault and le Gac where she’s somehow laying on his boot? See??? So many good ones, I keep thinking of more

This has got to be some of the most raw, emotionally beautiful practice footage there is of them. Is it even a practice? or is it a performance? or is it the most human, physical visualisation of two intrinsically connected souls communicating with each other??? I honestly don’t know, but I love it.
I’m the first to justify literally everything they do that seems unconventional for a supposed platonic relationship with the basic facts of the work and care they put into building trust and respect. But the amazing thing about what they do is you can not know all that, or know it all and just ignore it and watch them dance. Believe whatever you want to believe-whatever story they themselves are seemingly entranced in.. so let’s do that this time.
The way she falls on that 4th piano key. A legitimate trust fall- she falls so far off before he makes contact with her. The actual reaction in both of them, feeling the heavy weight of struggles they are navigating. How once she falls and he takes her weight, that causes his blades to slide open and back, his head inclined to look at her as if there’s nothing he can do but carry her through her pain.
The dynamics of the first lift. I’ll confidently say their lifts are so stunning because T is doing so much more work than any other girl does in lifts, she literally initiates the whole thing with her momentum, then the almost, stormy ocean current-like shifts in dynamics between the spin to her throwing and almost falling again back in his arms to again thrown up over his shoulders.. but it happens so seamlessly because they are both so strong.
The freaking dancing in their circle step sequence.. I don’t give two fucks about the skating they are doing- I know it’s amazing and I have all the respect in the world for them as technically brilliant skaters, but the skating is the blade in contact with the ice, above that, and the way they skate.. they are dancing. They are Ice. Dancing. Even when they don’t have their eyes on each other their eyes are still somehow on each other.. when thy look away they are still connected.. it’s so god damn intimate. What audience? If there was ever a program that proved they shut all the 7billion or so people on this earth out when they dance it’s this one. The suspension following Scott’s twizzle at the centre back of the rink and he reaches out to the front, only momentarily entertaining the idea that anyone else is actually there to save them. The way they play with the music as if making certain notes freeze in time, then race to catch others like their lives depend on it.
Even when they break.. the way they take a good 5 seconds to stay in that bubble, the way he gently fondles with her.. like with their hug just settling their heart beats back down, coming back to each other to refocus while still connected to the yearning violin drawing them back to start again.
Then just as they dipped briefly out of character, letting the story overtake them and they phase back into it in that beautifully soft little cradley hug, spinning in their shared energy as the lyrics start to emphasise what their bodies are yearning for each other, the movement signifying them stumbling over their own two feet as the other is their save them.
The exquisite, time standing still pause as the whole arena breathes with them, realising the euphoria flooding them as finally their stunning smiles emerge.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed at this point, but this pause, only along with twizzles are the only times they have been out of contact with each other. They stretch and intertwine like elastic silks, their limbs only an extension of each others.
That minuscule throw where Tessa becomes airborne, only for her feet barely to touch the ice as she’s intentionally dropped back, not at the mercy of his control, but their own energies saving each other’s whether in the air or on the cold ice.
Then taking off, he like an eagle with her flying on his back. Landing again and her being tossed around because euphoric happiness isn’t all light and gentle- the essence of their love is that physical expression of which part of the fun is seeing how far they can push the boundaries of movement together.
Joining in an expansive waltz hold which should look so out of place in a contemporary routine but instead represents how their closeness and bond remains as they navigate through life taking them all directions- holding each other close just to almost completely release, only their fingertips left in contact, to pull each other in again as they grasp for their person.
That brief moment where he has to chase after her in the middle of a required technical step sequence, they are now just dancing. What audience? what coaches? what other skaters? are they- TS even here? As if dna under a microscope- they are just two lost souls who found each other in this big wide world.. communicating the best way they know how, doing the thing that brings them the most passionate joy in this life.
Tessa arching up to the heavens in their straight lift, thanking whatever powers brought them together.. embedded in music the slightest sound of angelic choir voices during that lift as she exhales.
The music then settling as they too quieten down. That last spiralling lift, expansive to nestled.. them both almost folding around each other in a foetal-like position as she hangs on closing off the world around them. Wanting to be as close as they can he reaches down to give her the most gentle little kiss on the first spot he reaches.
It truly brings tears to my eyes.. how special they must feel in a moment like that. Her unable to do anything but hang on and he confirms the magic of that moment with a gesture far too intimate to be considered platonic. But in these moments that label means nothing to them.. what is any label you can put on a feeling this special?. In the middle of a rehearsal for a competitive program, at a competition with a result so important in their plan for 2018.. let alone completing their gold collection. In this moment none of that matters, nothing else in existence matters except them in their little world. I can only imagine, for her in that moment spinning in her lil tucked position, being met with a kiss she has no control over receiving. Receiving it from someone she trusts with her life, she knows exactly what that kiss means in the context of who it’s coming from, but also in that moment it has no meaning, it is just an expression of overwhelming love.. how freaking loved must she feel in that moment??
As they come to a stop, not reaching the end of their journey, but just another step in realising their essential role in each other’s existence, these two.. sometimes emotionally disturbed (borrowing that from their description of Stay), maybe even by their own emotions together, have made it though another chapter alive, safe, still in each other’s arms.
Laying her back she takes one last exhale, him resting on her beating chest, hopefully in time with his own.
Yes, this was just a practice.. just another run of their FD. These two great athletes, this terrifying, formidable team… so good their practice just becomes a conversation.. just them communicating, synchronising, feeling anything and everything they want to feel.

Watching the pairs short from Lombardia this morning and Ghilardia/Ambrosini had a boot problem and stopped and took a 6 pt deduction. Ling/Wein's interruption for a boot problem at Lake Placid last month cost them 5. When VM stopped for Tessa's leg cramps at 4CC in 2013, why didn't they get any deduction?
Q #212:
Hi anon,
So there are a few different kinds of breaks and they can be instigated by the skater or the referee. I haven’t watched the pairs short program so I can’t comment on G/A but for Ling/Wein they were blown dead by the referee because the referee determined that the costume issue was a safety issue. If you as a skater are whistled to stop by the referee, you must stop or risk disqualification. For obvious reasons, a loose boostrap could be very dangerous in ice dance, especially for lifts and any transition which involves a mini-lift. L/W were mandated to stop to fix his boot because the referee made the call that his bootstrap significantly increased the likelihood of injury or other adverse events (pretty obviously). In case of a costume malfunction, that is deemed somewhat in the skaters’ control (not saying I agree with the logic this is just the rationale) but a medical stoppage is not. For example, a skater is responsible for tying and securing their laces and therefore will receive a deduction if they come loose but would not if they got a bloody nose (not controllable).
In 2013 there was a bit of an uproar because not only did V/M stop in the middle of their FD at 4CC but so did P/C at JWC. These were medical stoppages and therefore did not get deductions. Tessa has a condition called Chronic Exertional Compartments Syndrome where her muscles are overly restricted by her fascia resulting in intense nerve pain and reduced blood flow. I’m sure that when Scott was explaining to the referee the cause of the stoppage that her (documented) compartments syndrome was preventing her from skating and was specifically a safety risk when it came to her kicking up into that straight line lift. CCES is pretty obviously improved by a break because those extra seconds yelp reduce muscle inflammation and restore blood flow.
Gabi sprained her ankle the day of the JWC free dance in warm ups (might have also included a fracture I don’t remember the specifics). You can see that Gabi’s right ankle is taped to high heaven and back in the videos. P/C stop right after a series of transitions that’s pretty heavy on Gabi’s right ankle with a leaning besti squat and lunge and before their circular step sequence. Both of her one foot sections within the steps were on her right foot and you can clearly see that her skating throughout the entire program is affected by limited strength and mobility in her ankle. Again with the stoppage there was a clearly documented and visible injury and when talking with the medical personnel (after the referee) it was clear that they could continue within 3 minutes.
Here are the relevant sections of the special rules and regulations:

Ranking the programs at GPF - the Junior Women SP edition
Was it the best junior women’s field at JGPF in ages ? Imho yes without a question. Great skating all around, some pretty stunning programs and loads of (hopefully) future stars.
And it showed in the choreography. I enjoyed most of theses programs, some have outright made my best of the season list.
As usual, from least favorite to favorite
6 - Chaeyeon Kim - Everybody Knows, choreo by Yeaji Shin
Chaeyeon Kim is that rare skater of whom I can I say that I love her packaging... While disliking her programs this season.
Let me explain : while most Korean ladies, junior and senior, are packaged as classical, lyrical skaters, with long lines, shimmering dresses and tiaras, and while they nearly all have to skate the inevitable Yuna Kim tribute (still have PTSD from the Oly season), Chaeyeon stands out in imho the best ways.
Her skating is nothing like those of her teammates. It’s much more agressive, combative. Her music choices feel outside the box, so does her choreo, which is more likely to feature split jumps, flying kicks, than Ina Bauers and flowy arms.
And it’s good ! Her SP infortunately isn’t. It’s far too busy and instead of a Yuna Kim tribute, you end up with something looking like it came straight from Dany G and Tutberidze team.
Also junior skaters and fresh seniors shouldn’t skate to a Leonard Cohen song, especially this one. Especially when the lyrics include
“Everybody knows that the naked men and women
Are just a Shining artefact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead”
I don’t think Chaeyeon can understand, let alone interpret those lyrics
5 - Jia Shin - The Giving, choreo by Yeaji Shin
Ranked low because that short failed to leave an impression. I can’t even recall what the music was, besides “that thing Marin Honda skated to once”.
And tbh it’s a disservice to Jia. I’m not that fond of the “Jia vs Mao, Yuna vs Mao 2.0″ dynamic developping because hype and kids don’t mix, but if we go down that road, I think that compared to Mao Shimada, Jia’s team really dropped the ball on the choreo this year. Mao’s programs were perfectly suited to her strengths, punchy and memorable, be it because of the costume (bright yellow Mao as Little Simba), or because of the choreo (that stunning choreo sequence in Passepied). Jia’s team probably attempted something more mature and elevated, which ended up being way too muted and failed to showcase what a stunning skater Jia is (her FS is better in that regard).
4 - Mao Shimada - The Lion King, choreo by Cathy Reed
Not the best thing there is, all in all it’s a pretty standard junior program, and it does its job perfectly. It fits Mao perfectly : it’s fun, it’s feisty, it’s cute. The music is an easy crowd pleaser, the dress is glorious.
3 - Minsol Kwon - Danse Macabre, choreo by Yeaji Shin
Speaking of inevitable Yuna Kim tributes... I don’t mind them among juniors. It’s absurd to expect individuality or personnal taste from junior skaters. They are learning and maturing, and doing that by skating tributes to former great skaters, or by skating to warhorses, where the interpretation might be easier, is a pretty good choice. It’s like learning your classics before composing.
Like Mao, this SP is nothing special but it helps that Minsol is hands down the best performer in this field, none of the juniors come close to the intensity she puts on the ice. And Danse Macabre is such a fun piece of music for that.
2 - Ami Nakai - I Got Rythm, choreo by Akiko Suzuki
First of all, I’m a sucker for I Got Rythm programs
Second of all, Ami Nakai had the performance of the day at JGPF. She went into it with so much speed and enthusiasm, she had a wobble on one of her spin. But besides that this was stunning. And I’ll stand by that, she was underscored. While yes her jump technique can be scary, and is far from the likes of Chaeyeon, Jia or Mao, her PCS should be up there with Jia and Mao. She has arguably the best SS of the field, very good posture and good musicality.
Third of all, Akiko Suzuki’s choreo is very good. The step sequence in particular is a stand out, and at JGPF, Ami managed to get level 4.
1 - Hana Yoshida - Dog Days Are Over, choreo by Lori Nichol
When Lori is on, she delivers all time bangers. Hana’s SP is a gem. The choreo is perfect and chock full of small details that highlights the lyrics. The bestie squats while she does the wave with her arms, while Florence’s voice swirls. Running on the ice, The head skaing choreo. The shoulder shrug...
And it’s such a shame that Hana basically peaked at her JGP events, and her season went kinds downhill after that. At Courchevel it was glorious, but she never managed again to be relaxed enough to sell it.
But it was glorious.

Often people say a weakness of DW’s skating is hops during step sequences (in hold and out) to generate speed But I’ve been rewatching VM programs from that era and they do some shops as well. I was wondering what the difference is? Or did they both use choreographed hops?
I’ve answered something similar in the past.
To me, there’s four types of ‘cheating’ skating - there is hopping a turn (as macaroni-rascal said), especially in step sequences; then there are the hops to gain speed/make up distance across ice without having to generate your own speed; toe-picking or running on the ice, meant to be generating speed; and flourished/choreographic hops that are just taking a lazy route vs having to stroke.
I still believe all skaters do these things, to a certain extent, but some more than others. The most common hop to generate speed that I tend to notice is in the step sequences, usually to give the second half of a sequence some extra oomph that was otherwise lost, or at the end of a step sequence or twizzle set to grt back up to speed again. (Of course, with fewer required turns/steps and more permitted stops in step sequences now, they aren’t as necessary anymore.)
If the basic skating skills aren’t amazing, but the skaters want to show speed and coverage of the ice, they may rely more heavily on these little tricks to portray that. Though the hopped turns are more of a problem because they should be doing correct technique to earn levels, the others show poor skatings skills or bad choreography that relies on those cheats to achieve a program.
Of course, there’s the hopping and toe picking that are used clearly as choreography, because it is stationary, or where to my mind there could be the added effect of generating speed or what have you, but it is so in tune with the theme or with the music, that it doesn’t seem to be the only purpose behind it. The former is fine to me, and if it is used sparingly or not something that a team relies on, then the latter doesn’t bother me.
The best example I can think of for a choreographic toe pick ,stationary and also ones that perhaps generate speed as a side effect, is the opening of their Hip Hip Chin Chin FD, through the first piece of music. They were very thematic and used the music extremely well, and as a general rule, seemed to be more about creating an impression versus actually using them to create the speed.
(I really wish at moments like this, that I could gif; it would make it so much easier for me yo show what I can picture in my head lol.)
I went back and rewatched the 2014 Olympic FDs of DW and VM, and there was at least 18 hops (skate clearly leaving the ice, and some sort of momentum) for DW and at least 13 for VM. If I wasn’t sure if it was a hop, I gave them each the benefit of the doubt; but I was pretty generous with DW (I didn’t count some that I decreed were so clearly choreographic that they could be ignored, and their run towards the end was not accurately counted) and I was pretty strict with VM, because I wanted to try and counter-balance some of my bias lol. I think of Seasons as a particularly hoppy program for VM, and as a particularly toe-pick-running one for DW (that toe-pick dash across the ice drives me nuts lol, and what is with the multiple hops in the middle of their step sequence at about 1:48 in the linked video?!).
On a whim, I decided to watch Latch with a eye for hops. My thinking was that a) it was the first program VM competed after Seasons but that b) there had been a reduction in turns/steps for step sequences, c) they had new choreographers, d) the aesthetics of ice dance had changed and being smooth and seamless was one of their goals, to show they were part of the new look, and e) they had pushed themselves to learn new skating technique to achieve that smoother look. In Lstch (GPF version) I counted 5 hops, maybe 6 if I could’ve seen Tessa’s feet one time. And two of them were clearly hops but unclear to me if they were even for speed, or just a choreographic embellishment. It was quite the difference to see.

Thoughts after the second group of FDs at GP France:
P/B - their programs is nice and different but sloppy at times. Their free leg and lines rarely match and some moments were really glaring. Still a nice FD.
D/LM - @macaroni-rascal called it in advance that the French are likely to be the only ones to get a SB here and we weren’t very wrong. It’s a solid program and it was a solid skate, she really stands out. Was it 5 points better than their SB? Not sure.
L/P - Not a fan of the program Gui gave them, they don’t feel comfortable with it imo. She especially was really off today and was close to falling like 4 times. It was just completely sloppy all around. The fact that they scored 114 is unacceptable, I felt like 111 will be a gift from the judges and that they should get around 108, but the 114 is the first sign that they are getting a gigantic push this season regardless of what they put on the ice. Hate it.
Canadanes - best packages team, sexiest team, but like the rest also sloppy today. Twizzles were off, especially for Laurance, and the while the straight line  part of the combo lift is impressive, the rotational part is really underwhelming. Some nice moments in there but it needs to be like 30% better than it currently is with more speed for it to really slay. Oh, and that curve lift needs to go.
G/F - Struggling with the one thing that made them stand out - which is the levels (Canadanes had better levels on step sequences). Without it they don’t really stand out, and while the program is a bit of a departure for them, and there are nice moments, it’s not really something I will rush to watch again (like I did with Canadanes FD).
It’s funny that G/P currently have the top scoring RD and FD since it’s the result of scoring inflation in Skate Canada. GPF will be fascinating to watch.

Can we talk about Weiss in V8 chapter 13? Can we talk about how amazing she was in that episode despite all the batshit crazy insane shit happening around? Like it starts out with a full on Team RWBY Vs Cinder battle royale.
Tumblr media
Weiss is literally never still even for a second here. She's clearly learned from Volume 5 that staying still in battle for a fighter with her attack type is a bad decision so she's constantly moving over here appearing on all sides in a matter of seconds while keeping the movements of her teammates in mind as well.
Tumblr media
She's literally mid fight here half through zooming across the battlefield after an attack and she's already setting up a glyph to boost Blake up so she can attack Cinder keeping the momentum of the fight going in the split second she needs to move across.
Weiss's fighting style often leans to support and a series of attacks rather than one heavy blow. And support is probably the most complicated role to play in a fight.
It's all about insane mid battle calculation. She has to keep track of her team's movements to perfectly time her glyphs (also deciding what type of glyph based how her teammates are moving and their surroundings) and HOW EXHAUSTING IS THAT??? Because she not only has to keep track of the opponent's movement but she's also keeping her eye on three other people who are in continuing motion looking for any gap she can offer support in??? While constantly moving on the field and launching her own attacks in tandem with the others???
Tumblr media
The minute Ruby is falling back Weiss is already pelting ice picks at Cinder. And okay mad props to Cinder because this entire attack sequences from RWBY was hardcore and Cinder managed to dodge it all. And back to Weiss.
So we have this insane battle where everyone is mentally exhausted and then we have Neo attacking Ruby and Yang falling into the void. And I've seen a lot of people shitting on how Ruby and Weiss didn't react fast enough and let me just say they acted exactly how you'd expect them too.
I don't have the pic here cause Tumblr has a limit but if you remember the split screen showing Ruby,Weiss, Blake and Neo we can all see Blake already starts moving. Ruby starts getting attacked by a feral Neo a second later and has no time to even process any event(a running theme this volume Rubes your breakdown is coming).
Now here Weiss starts moving a literal second later. And now remember this is Weiss, master of mid fight distance calculation.
The minute Weiss turned and saw Blake she knew. She knew that judging from how fast Yang fell of the ledge and how fast Blake moved the only person who had a sliver of a chance of saving Yang was Blake. She knew she would be a second late if she tried. She knew that summoning a glyph in the event of Blake missing would be no use because she's done the math in that heated second of fear and anguish and knows that she will be too late.
Tumblr media
Which is why Weiss Schnee master of logic and cool headedness in the battle field and emotional wellbeing off the battlefield knew what would happen a second later. She knows Yang. Weiss was the first person we've ever seen Yang be vulnerable around. And I bet the reason Weiss was so sure Blake would find her way back to them is because Weiss and Blake are alot more similar than you think. So Weiss knows. She knows the Blake Belladona would not hesitate for a second to jump into the literal unknown for Yang.
She would too. But they're in the middle of battle and Ruby is being attacked and thousands of Atlas and Mantle citizens are in the middle of a space that shouldn't exist and she knows despite how she wants too she cannot jump. And she cannot let Blake jump either because she cannot and will not lose another member of her family today. And she immediately pulls Blake literally dragging her from the surface(and this is no easy feat because we know how crazy swol Blake is and adding that with mad grief Blake is basically the strongest most impulsive person in that space right now) and you can see from that single frame that Weiss herself is so close to tears but she has to hold it together for Blake. For Yang. For Ruby.
And once Blake takes off in a rage she knows that Cinder is left with no one to fight her. And Weiss (who is probably a little traumatised after having been stabbed and almost dying because of her) she immediately faces Cinder and Weiss is frantically dodging because remember Cinder was able to take on all four of them with barely a scratch and now Weiss is facing her alone.
Tumblr media
And I also love this because it seems like Weiss is just zig zagging her way in a frenzy but she's trying to make herself really difficult to target here. You know how they say to run zig zag when your being chased by an animal right? That's what she's doing here. She's stays in a position for just enough time for Cinder to shoot her fire and then immediately takes off in a tangent making cinder have to spend a split second trying to reorient her attack cause all her attacks shoot in a straight direction.
Tumblr media
I included this picture because she looks so fucking cool here. She literally fights fire with FIRE and I love her stance and pose and if you've actually read this far you can kinda guess I love everything about her.
Tumblr media
And now we see her skating up. Because she knows the advantage and how being in a higher position can help. She needs to get to higher ground. And I'd like to highlight that Weiss only takes this pathway cause at that moment it is completely empty. She assumed that people had already finished evacuating from there which is why she chose that place. But it turned out that particular door was one for Atlas and Atleasians were alot more hesitant to use the gates than people from Mantle which is why there are people still there(this might also have been a convenient plot narrative to make Jaune aware that Cinder was here, who knows we shall see)
Tumblr media
She uses her gravity glyph to try and hinder the airborne higher ground advantage that Cinder has. And it works. Cinder is momentarily focussed on Weiss allowing Penny to regain her stance and figure out her weapon situation.
Tumblr media
And then an Atleasian steps out and Weiss realises in a matter of milliseconds that shit she has to protect them.
Tumblr media
And if you notice Cinder is imitating Weiss's attack here. Weiss attacked Cinder with the same Ice pick move 5 minutes ago. And Weiss has to protect herself and the now emerging Atlas citizens. And I love how it's shown that she doesn't have the time to fully summon her Knight so only summons the arm and blade and protects everyone from actually getting hurt. Also I don't know if this the first time we've seen the summoning glyph for the knight in this angle but it is absolutely gorgeous and I really want to see what the Nevermore one looks like.
And I ran out pictures but Cinder literally tosses Weiss over the edge and the only thing stopping Weiss from certain fall in the void is her own gravity glyph which she is maintaining after all of the stuff I mentioned before.
I mean we know that Weiss has the lowest stamina of the team and the role that takes up the most energy. And she's still standing and she still going to fight in the next episode.
I just-- GODS Weiss Schnee is an absolute legend and possibly the best ally to have on the battlefield. She's is a super skilled ,level headed and versatile fighter whose constant presence and observations in the battlefield are such an asset and I wouldn't be far off in saying that she's probably the smartest fighter after Ruby and there's a reason they're partners because for every wacky absolute bonkers plan Ruby has, Weiss will be there to build the foundation to launch off from. And I cannot wait to see her learn and grow even more.

[TN: The reason why I elected to summarise this interview rather than do a full write up is because a lot of the information given gets covered in December 2016′s Animestyle010, in “The Making of Mob Psycho 100.” I typed that one out in full over on twitter but that’s a long interview, and I don’t have the time or energy to reformat it for Tumblr, but if you’re interested in a very in-depth look into how Mob Psycho 100′s anime came to be I’d really recommend checking it out. Direct quotes are given in “” here. Enjoy!]

*~The genga illustration for Otome Visual’s cover~*
“With the recent popularity that Skating Anime has had, what’s this - a Shouwa idol collab?! It’s all in the little details in their clothing - their wrinkled shirts, white trousers, black belts - both around their waists and arms.”
Tumblr media
*~Kameda’s comments~*
“Can you heaaaar me!! I am currently speaking directly into your braaaain!!! What I’m grateful for with this commission is I was able to design the cover in any way I’d like!! A cover is a reflection of current times, so, of course, I went for ice skating! You wouldn’t be able to find this kind of amazing content in any time period other than now! That’s what I first thought! Like, Mob Psycho 100!! If there’s not a certain Mob Psycho 100-ness present in the art then what’d be the point, so, the characters are being very serious but they’re also pretty laughable. I tried to create a piece of art from which you could hear their voices!!! What’s with it being Shouwa-esque?? Being lame is incredibly cool!!! Huh? Does that describe Mob Psycho 100?? Can’t answer that if you ask!!!! Please feel the amazing Paradise Ginga x Mob Psycho 100-ness here!!!!!!”

Kameda describes how he wasn’t sure how best to adapt the manga into an anime format at first, since from the art he was shown he immediately knew it to be very unique - the idea of using Flash to animate the show was raised but quickly shot down
Originally, upon being asked about the show, he based his thoughts on what a web image search for Mob Psycho 100 gave him rather than having the actual manga in hand. “For the most part, the results that came back would be fanart (laughs). It’s a bit strange -  at that time, it was difficult to find art uploaded from the manga. If you could find anything, it’d just be art from the covers. So for the most part, an image search of Mob Psycho 100 would just bring you back fanart. A lot of that fanart would be… a shounen in a cool pose wearing a school uniform with smooth bobbed hair & sharp cat-like eyes, sort of like Hiei’s eyes (from Yu Yu Hakusho). Very different from the manga’s art. But when I looked at that art, I thought; this could work. Fanart is, fundamentally, ‘fans drawing what they like’, so I thought, ‘the anime having this kind of art would make the fans happy.’ Well, it didn’t work out that way, obviously. I was told the anime’s art should resemble that of the manga. (Laughs)”
Tumblr media
He hadn’t read the manga so all he had for reference was art from volume 1 and the fanart he found online. “But I like things like spirits and urban legends, so seeing Dimple - a floating supernatural fiery ball - and being told the manga touches on the occult caused my interest to soar.”
Says that Teru is the easiest character for him to draw. “He’s overflowing with confidence, so it’s easy to put him into some cool poses. Mob and Ritsu in comparison, not so much. [...] With Reigen, he has a lot of poses that are like, he’s trying to look good. He takes a solid stance. I suppose Spirits & Such has such a shady air to it, and you have to hide that somehow, right? So, Reigen injects confidence into how he presents himself. A model-like stance.”
Tumblr media
“The anime is faithful to the manga… ah, actually, Tsubomi-chan was changed with a ‘let’s make her more like a heroine’ conversation. So, I did so, but reading recent events in the manga I can’t picture her in her anime form (laughs). The manga’s Tsubomi isn’t much like a heroine, so I’ve found myself wondering, if we animate up until this part… just how will we approach it? The anime’s Tsubomi is so bright and sparkly, so she wouldn’t have snot hanging from her nose (vol.13 of manga), would she…? (Laughs). Perhaps we went a little too far with making her a heroine. Maybe, if we do season 2, we’ll turn her back into a normal girl (laughs). Well, Tachikawa-san is clever; I think he’ll find a way to make do with her current design.”

Picture text: "This is Mezato's first appearance, so I decided to make her cute!! Thank you in advance!!"
Tumblr media
Picture text: "That girl was telling me such a stupid story this morning... aidzuchi* isn't easy, you know... I'll just ignore her tomorrow..." [* sounds made to indicate that you're listening to someone speak]

Asked about his favourite characters; “I love Mezato Ichi from the Newspaper Club. When I drew her in her character sheet in that pose where she’s holding her camera, I came to see her as being quite cute. So now I focus on her a lot; in fact, when I draw genga I sneakily choose the cuts that have her in them (laughs).”
“I also love Mob. Reigen stands out the most so your eyes naturally jump to him, but I love the balance that Mob has. His heads tall ratio... or rather, his face, and the way his body is proportioned? It makes him lovely. Ritsu is around the same height as Mob, but, how can I put this - the cuteness that Mob has, is lacking in Ritsu… due to the latter being quite standoffish, I suppose (laughs).”
Ritsu’s hair changing through the first season is discussed, and how it is purposefully shortened during the latter half. “I paid attention to making sure his hair was long especially while he was being possessed by Dimple. So it’d resemble thorns.”
Tumblr media
“I feel Teru-kun is the most ‘yang’ of all the characters. The rest are more ‘yin’ in nature. Because of this, it’s easy to play around with his expressions - he’s fun to draw. Speaking in terms of Dragonball, he’s kind of like Mob Psycho 100’s Vegeta (laughs).”
“In episode 9, Dimple possesses one of Claw’s security guards, right? I don’t really understand why that security guard is so popular.” Q: What do you mean? “Because he’s just some middle-aged dude (laughs). He doesn’t even appear for long…”
Tumblr media
After discussing the huge amount of SG!Dimple commissions received: “Unlike SG!Dimple, I don’t really get asked to draw Shou-kun. With this commission I thought to myself, I /have/ to include him here, and so I added him in. The initial brief excluded him.”
Asked about moments that stuck with him; “When Teru chokes Mob in episode 5. [...] Mob’s pained expression as he’s being choked is good, but Teru-kun’s face shows us… envy, jealousy, distress, anxiety.”
Tumblr media
“Also, the ‘super real Reigen’ sequence from episode 12. The tension between Reigen and Sakurai is funny, but the art itself has had me laughing since production. It’s funny no matter how many times I look at it!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kameda’s idea to have the characters make number shapes for the volume art came from him watching ‘Tonneruzu no Minasan no Okage deshita’, specifically the ‘Mojimoji-kun’ segment of the show (where they try to make numbers from their bodies)
Tumblr media
Volume 6’s cover art was first planned to have a whole ensemble of characters, but Kameda changed his mind on this - “if we do a second season, we can leave that for volume 12 (laughs).”
Volume 4's cover was originally planned to feature only Onigawara and Gouda, but Kameda found himself wanting to include the rest of the body improvement club
Regarding the pose we see on vol 6’s package art, “My original thoughts for that cover were to have Reigen and Mob in a ‘hell wheel’ pose, like, Mob pulling Reigen’s legs and arms… but that wouldn’t be very fitting for the final volume.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His message to the readers; “Thank you for your support! With sales, the ‘this is popular!’ message gets conveyed, and the more support you give us, then there’s no doubt we’ll be able to produce season 2 and season 3!! Season 2 relies on your support. It’s in your hands - thank you!!”

30 FACTS
1. Despite her upbeat and modern exhibition programs to pop music, Voltaire’s favorite music to listen to is classical piano.
2. Voltaire is great at pinball due to her fast reflexes.
3. Although she’s barely 26, Voltaire is qualified to be a US figure skating coach on an Olympic level. However, she typically only does junior coaching.
4. Voltaire is a frequent and popular guest commentator for many sports, not only figure skating, due to taking the position seriously and explaining the physics behind them in layman’s terms for viewers.
5. She does not have a college degree, but holds the title of honorary research fellow in physics.
6. Voltaire is an one-time Olympic silver medalist, a five-time World Champion, a five-time Four Continents champion, and a six-time US champion. She is notable in her career for medaling in all but two major figure skating events she has taken place in since the start of her competitive career.
7. In her most recent competiton, despite falling and not completing the remaining 10 seconds of her program, Voltaire scored high enough to be awarded the bronze medal and earn a spot on Team USA.
8. Voltaire has had endorsement contracts in her career ranging from cereal to cars to doll brands to yogurt, but mostly endorses skating equipment and athletic wear. The two things she refuses to promote are dietary or makeup.
9. Due to the ISU often undermining her programs in favor of more technically based ones, Voltaire will often deliberately perform banned or otherwise extremely difficult technical moves in her exhibition programs to prove that she’s fully capable of executing them, she simply prefers the artistic programs.
10. Voltaire’s fans usually throw Cheer Bear Care Bears or Strawberry Shortcake plushies to her. Two fans were banned from events due to throwing a) a full punnet of strawberries and b) a bagel onto the ice.
11. Despite her polite demeanor, Voltaire is known to have somewhat of a hot temper and some incidents where she’s snapped at reporters or other skaters.
12. Voltaire’s serial dating is met with disapproval from the more traditional figure skating community, something she doesn’t seem very concerned about.
13. Voltaire has never signed a single autograph, resulting in her being considered arrogant or too good for her fans by third parties. Her fans don’t seem especially bothered.
14. Her signature move is a 3A+3Lz combo, combining the two most difficult jumps in the sport. Other skaters have had to resort to attempting quad jumps in order to beat the score hike the consistent clean execution gets her. Literally the only way it’s possible to accomplish this as a combo is to do a counterclockwise axel straight into a clockwise lutz - which is incredibly disorienting.
15. Voltaire openly criticizes the scoring system for the sport as it rewards risk over artistry, which incentivizes skaters to perform stunts that are beyond their capabilities, more likely to cause short or long term injuries, and sacrifice the beauty of figure skating to maximize points. There is longstanding tension between her and the ISU over it.
16. Voltaire’s 3A+3Lz combo earns her a whopping 17 points when executed cleanly. By comparison, if done as a sequence, it would only earn her 10.64 points.
17. Voltaire’s highest total score is 238.92.
18. Her favorite scents are citrus or otherwise fruity.
19. Very little is known about her personal life or family, as she deflects any questions and her manager slams anyone who tries to dig anything up with expensive lawyers. She speaks highly of her family, but doesn’t want to bring them into the public eye.
20. Voltaire takes her costumes very seriously, meticulously working with designers on every detail to match them to her programs and personal style.
21. She also just takes fashion in general pretty seriously. When appearing in public she coordinates her outfits carefully.
22. Voltaire plays ACNH constantly and cries anytime a villager wants to leave. No villagers have been allowed to leave her prison island.
23. She’s also very good at games like Minecraft and Spot The Difference.
24. All of Voltaire’s figure skating costumes have a tiny strawberry stitched into them somewhere, as a good luck charm.
25. Voltaire wears her tights over her skates to look taller. She also wears platform sneakers when off the ice for the same reason.
26. Though she has a sweet tooth, because of her lifestyle, Voltaire doesn’t eat desserts much, and only light or fluffy ones. Her favorite is Japanese strawberry shortcake, which is why people associate her with the character.
27. Voltaire does not know how to drive.
28. She loses things a lot. So it’s probably good she doesn’t have car keys.
29. She wakes up every morning at 4am and walks in her usual coffee shop at 4:18 on the dot every day.
30. Voltaire trained for several years with a ballet company in New York in order to learn better musicality and dance techniques.

LADIES THOUGHTS!
Maiia Khromykh: Do you think it bothers her that her coaches got a bigger applause than she did? Cause it bothered me. I’m not a fan of her skating and any music could have been playing.
Elizaveta Nugumanova: Some nice skating but it was under rotation station for her big time.
Daria Usacheva: The Greatest Showman should have lived and died in 2017. It is almost 5 years later, just let it end. She had some nice musical touches but the music is so heavy and so weird for her skating, it makes no sense.
Sofia Samodurova: I feel bad my first thought was “girl, what are you doing here?” Her jumps still haven’t improved, they barely leave the ice, she had under rotations on two of her jumps, maybe three, one of them was fully two footed. The music choice isn’t great. Girl, just, why?
Anna Shcherbakova: No combination, I am both surprised and not at all surprised, it also took her a long time to grab her skate in second spin. All in all I found the program quite boring.
Alena Kostornaia: Shame about the step out on the triple axel but I loved that she went for it. She performed well, and I can see her settling into the program and it becoming a moment. I think it’s a little heavy with the singing during the step sequence but I also think she’s capable of rising to it. All in all, well done!
Alexandra Trusova: Her hair really really matches that dress, huh. Fall on the 3A attempt, and wonky out of her flip. I really really hate how there are shots of the skater out of focus and the coaches in focus. It’s so disrespectful. It all feels rushed, nothing is held, and her cantilever is worse? Combo was also scratchy. Dani G really went to Mexico for a week and said I’m gonna have her skate to Frida. Also why the switch to the adea pianos?
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: As empty a program as hell, as slow as ever, good on her for landing the triple axel, but it was more of the same. Some arm movements and that’s about it.
Kamila Valieva: First of all, why the ridiculously long skirt? A stunning triple axel. Listen, I understand intellectually, but god I find her boring. I don’t know why, I’m just not out about her skating. I just think imagine if she was allowed to hold a spiral, and didn’t have as many leg kicks for no reason, and actually had good technique in her jumps. The way she resets for her combo and wrenches her back just bothers me. Ah, well. To each their own.

Fictober 2021 - Day 5
Prompt number: 5 - I'm not saying I told you so... Fandom: Yuri on ice Rating: G Tags:  Phichit & Yuuri
Phichit had just arrived back home after a very long and grueling day. Somehow he always forgot just how intense training was when Celestino was away, shouldn't it be the other way around? He was exhausted, and still had to make his own dinner and clean the hamsters cage before he could even think of taking a shower and getting his homework started. He missed Yuuri, it should be illegal for him to go to competitions without his PR manager, i.e. him. He was still gathering the energy to push himself off the door to get started with everything when he got a message from Yuuri that read "Hey, Phi, you free?". Quick math told him it was a little past midnight in France, which wasn't ideal considering that Yuuri had his free skate the following day, but not too bad by his standards yet. Instead of answering, he called right away,
"Yuuri!", he said as soon as it connected. "You're going to do great, don't worry! You could do the choreography asleep and still have the best step sequence out there, you..." "Phichit, Phichit, stop, stop, I'm ok," Yuuri interrupted him laughing. That was weird. Good weird but weird all the same. Yuuri seemed relaxed but not intoxicated. Which meant... "Tell me everything!" he ordered while falling down on the sofa. Real life could wait. Yuuri sat up on his bed. He seemed to be wearing his favorite soft sleeping t-shirt already, the image of the ice-castle barely visible after so many washes. "It's just..." he blushed and looked away before taking a deep breathe. Phichit was intrigued, could it be that Yuuri had actually met someone? "It's just..." he repeated before turning back to the camera. "I think I just had a date with Victor Nikiforov?" A beat. "Tell me you're not joking with me right now, Katsuki," Phichit whispered gripping the phone as if Yuuri was at shoulder-grabbing distance from him. In the screen, Yuuri shook his head, his little smile growing.
The very next second Phichit was screaming his best friend's name so high that he probably woke all the dogs in the building. "When? Where? How?! Yuuri!," he said once his voice had gone back to human-hearing levels. And so Yuuri told him how they had met after his performance, how they had gone to a café with terrible cake, how they had promised to meet again, how Victor had been trying to get in touch with him since he started following him on Instagram... "I'm not sure it wasn't a dream, Phichit," he finally whispered, his eyes brighter than Phichit had seen them in a long long time. It had been real alright. "Yuuri, if it had been a dream, you'd be married already." Yuuri snorted and shook his head, still disbelieving. "Also, you said something about him wanting to talk to you on Insta?" He tapped one finger against his cheek. "I think I remember telling you to send him a message at some point, didn't I? I'm not saying I told you so..." "Yes, you did," Yuuri said rolling his eyes. "You are the wisest, most intelligent best friend/manager in the world." Phichit chuckled. "And don't you foget it! Now, tell me about next time..."
Real life could definitely wait until later.

Junior Rhythm Dance #WorldJFigure (1/2)
Thought it would be fun to share some thoughts on one of my favorite events of the year. Junior ice dance has become an increasingly international field, with smaller federations increasingly sending teams. It has some of the most diverse choreography that we see in any discipline which is always a treat. And even teams who are not at the top level bring so much creativity to the field. Here are my *very* short notes on the first 20 teams in the RD by starting order, time stamps for each team are in the heading.
My top 4 favorite rhythm dances to watch in terms of creativity and performance (not what I think they should've scored): Bordet/Gipoulou, Slatter/Ongay-Perez, Li/Wang, and the Straub siblings.
youtube
1 - Yucel / Ivanov @ 16:41
Lovely use of tango movements like ganchos and mini-lifts both into and out of their pattern. Obviously, not the highest technical level but compositionally this was an extremely difficult program for a less experienced team. Lovely timing and arch on the layback straightline.
2 - Roberts / Alis @ 22:54
Great to see Spain fielding more ice dance teams. Super interesting twizzle placement spatially, on the music, and between the two pattern sequences. Beautiful split with turnout by Alis in the rotational lift, love to see the lifted partner hit a difficult position. Really enjoyed their music choice and choreography.
3 - Straub Siblings @ 29:25
I have to say all these junior teams are hitting it out of the part with their opening choreography, great balance of difficulty and creativity with lifts and ganchos. Lovely extension out of that first set of twizzles it is such an awesome demonstration of edge control, less sync on the second set of twizzles in their second set but overall love the construction. She has lovely extension and flexibility which are so well showcased in their SlLi. Love the leaning almost slide (similar to FB/S's choreo slide) that they do as a transition out of their pattern. Loving the use of their stop and slides in the MiSt.
4 - Dovhal / Kulesza @ 35:48
Awesome use of that slide and interlocking toe steps as a segue into their pattern. Very difficult assisted back walkover entrance into their twizzles in addition to the 2 3turns between sets 1 and 2. Interesting back to back hold at the tail end of 2AT. Farrucas is incredibly hard music to live up to in a MiSt but I though the kick to twizzle entrance was very clever. Wish their curve lift had slightly fewer arm movements but very ambitious exit.
5 - Beznosikova / Leleu @ 42:18
This is one of the youngest teams skating at this worlds. You can tell at times with the disconnect between their movements, its a lot of different choreo in the midline which might be a bit too ambitious for their level. I have to say I think their tango portion is a much stronger style for them interpretively. This is a good opportunity for them to grow and they have 5 years left to improve, and will have plenty of opportunities to represent Belgium in the future.
6 - Stanley / Sosnenko @ 54:48
Super impressed with this team's edge depth in the pattern. Some very clear issues with control at times but those knees and relative ease of edge will serve them well as they continue to develop. I believe they're one of the newest teams here and I'm excited to see how they continue to improve as they represent Mexico. I think I would've had them ahead of the Belgians just because of their relative ease in the pattern, and very well executed RBI Counters in the MiSt.
7 - Benkiewicz / Shapiro @ 1:01:00
Right into the twizzles, got all their levels even with losses in sync. Better edge control in the pattern from these two, solid RFO step from B in 2AT. Vivaldi all the way through is an ambitious music choice because it is so fast pace that think it at times makes them feel a bit bogged down in the steps, absolute bummer about the fluke fall.
8 - Li / Wang @ 1:07:40
Awesome to see some Chinese juniors back on the circuit, very strong opening twizzles from them with great demonstration of running edge. Always interesting when teams choose to do 2AT vs 1AT, probably the weakest portion of the RD for me and their edge depth and control was much improved in the midline. Difficult straightline involving a lot of core strength. They are both individually such strong performers with so little international experience, cannot wait to see how they improve as they are already so well matched.
9 - Kim / Lee @ 1:13:55
K/L are one of those teams very similar in stature who have very coordinated lines, extension, and knee bend. A little farther apart in 2AT than 1AT but solid execution throughout. Great save on the twizzles with that slight dip by Lee in the first set. And fabulous execution by Kim in the midline she has very neat steps and turns. Hopefully this performance in conjunction with Lim/Quan will encourage KSF to keep investing in ice dance!
10 - Vainik / Barshak @
The first team to get the majority of the key points on one section of the pattern, big improvements in speed from the rest of the group. She had a little bobble on the XB-RFIO in KP1 which is why she missed it. Interesting straightline lift exit, like the creativity and immediate control on her skating leg. Some very obvious incorrect edges on the swing twizzle and open S-step in 2AT. IMO both of them looked much stronger to me in hold than in the MiSt.
11 - O'Brien / Wiederkehr @ 1:48:00
Wow, very standout music and composition choices. A little tentative in the cross roll section but nice control and spacing as well as posture in the second section. Very nice lunging slide transition out of their straightline as well. Midline is just a little frantic, you can tell they're a bit out of gas.
12 - Slatter / Ongay-Perez @ 1:54:15
Strong first section of the pattern in terms of spacing, posture, and control. They're slightly off on timing which messed up S's IO edge changes but overall well done. KP 1 and 2 of 2AT were a little messy in that 1Tw and open S-step but really amazing posture for a team with a pretty exaggerated height difference. Great in hold choreography across the rink into one of the most difficult rotational lifts in this competition, love the entrance and exit. Very nicely executed twizzles with a very difficult entrance. Teeny bit out of sync in that midline but a very demanding element. The youngest team at this competition! They have 5 years ahead of them at this level to help develop that polish in partnering and overall skills.
13 - Carhart / Horovyi @ 2:01:13
Very aggressive in the opening choreography but so much more in control and nice defined curves on the ice in the pattern with by far the best SS at this point in the competition. I think they could've used a bit more contrast in choreography and speed of movement in between the tango and flamenco sections by making the tango more tense and restrained, maybe fewer high kicks and lunges and more variety. But really lovely basics and great sync throughout the midline. Slightly scary moment on the one foot feature of the rotational lift but great skate.
14 - Tali / Frasca @ 2:07:57
A few creative hold moments throughout their pattern, she had a beautiful LFO in the lead up to her swing twizzle, showing great control in their leg movements but at times they drift apart. Great lunge to slide transition out. Overall very nice speed and the best sync so far in the midline even when doing different turns. He has a funny footwork thing he does in the RoLi which makes me slightly nervous for him catching a toepick but very well executed.
15 - Hauer / Starr @ 2:14:35
Interesting opening choreography, for a team with relatively good skating skills and power they felt a bit stiff in hold. Midline was a bit mismatched in execution and synchronicity, felt like H was maybe a bit nervous. Well executed rotational lift and performed all the way through the end of the program.
16 - Bordet / Gipoulou @ 2:27:00
Loved their take on the tango, felt distinctly different from what we've seen and more quirky. Very fast in the twizzles but felt like they were twizzling independently. Difficult CuLi with great execution, love that he is also using his hands and expressing. Loved the interplay between the two of them in the midline. She has standout edge depth to me, a little nervy on the first set but fantastic execution in remaining close in hold, matching free legs, and edge depth.
17 - Tkachenko / Kiliakov @ 2:33:25
Interesting program construction putting 2AT at the very beginning. Interesting choreography in lead up to the twizzles but minor losses of sync. I think the changes in hold and positioning they made in 1AT threw them off timing in K's 3turn. Demanding SlLi but just a little off in the midline in terms of sync.
18 - Yu / Giang @ 2:39:40
Another team coached by Wing/Lowe that is very well matched in terms of skating level and movement, free limbs are very well coordinated. Difficult jump into that first set of twizzles like the transition as well. Both a little flat in 2AT which hurt them on both levels and execution but much better in the midline with very consistent edge depth and smooth curves on the ice. Absolutely stunning split position by Y, one of my favorite RoLis at this event, I think with their lift and better sync throughout on the midline and twizzles I would've had them ahead of T/K.
19 - Karl / Hoferichter @ 2:45:40
They feel very fluid across the ice, really nice carriage and execution in 1AT, not sure if they got nervy but just much sloppier in 2AT given their skating ability. Nice speed and sync in the twizzles and very difficult curve lift with great choreography on exit. Slightly out of sync on the choreo in the diagonal step, which showed in the late ending but overall very nice skate and they have fantastic basics with knees and power.
20 - Gauthier / Thieren @ 2:52:00
Good ice coverage in the twizzles, but not a ton of choreography into or out of them connecting the elements. MiSt3 felt high to me given their brackets and counters being pretty flat. Fun She looks slightly off balance at times in the pattern where her free leg and arm is off to the side compensating for her CoM. Her LBO to RFO step in KP3 of 1AT is pretty shallow. Very flat in 2AT as well, I think I would've given them a basic level. They clearly have quite a lot of power and soft knees but not fantastic edge depth and their choreography both between elements and in element complexity is much lower than choreography attempted by teams who scored much lower. I'm not sure I would've scored them in the top 13.
Overall a fantastic event and let me know what you think!
Part 2 with the last 10 skaters will be up tomorrow!

Chapter 5: Glitter and Gold
Peter groans at the sound of his alarm. The loud, blaring tune is pulling him back into consciousness after a good night’s rest. He grabs his phone to turn the alarm off and ponders sneaking in an extra five minutes just because he’s so comfortable within these soft, thick sheets. However, the amount of notifications has him frowning. He only needs a few seconds of skimming through them to feel the blood drain from his face.
No.
No, no, no!
There are too many missed calls. Too many texts about him and Tony, and when he opens one of them, his heart sinks. Tony and he have been caught kissing. Peter sinks into the sheets a little more to trick his nerves into settling down. Obviously, they don’t. His fingers dial MJ’s number almost automatically. He knows he should call Tony too, but MJ is honest and objective, and she always knows what to do. She’ll tell him how bad the situation is. “Peter Benjamin Parker, what the fuck have you-”
Bad. The situation is bad.
And right at that moment, Peter can see his career crumbling before his very own eyes. Everything he’s worked for. Everything his parents worked for. The legacy they left behind for him. None of that matters anymore. He’s done. “MJ,” he chokes out, tears threatening to blur his vision. His voice is small. It’s a wonder MJ even caught her name falling from his lips. She quickly catches on to Peter’s clear panicked state and quips a quick ‘stay right where you are; I’m coming over’ before she ends the call. Peter stares at his lock screen. He ignores the notifications that are still flowing in- wave after wave after wave.
Tony. He has to call Tony.
 -
Not much later, they’re all squeezed around Peter’s small dining table. MJ, Steve, Tony, and of course, Happy too. Though the latter has pulled his seat a little further back- clearly not wanting to be involved in the drama. Peter doesn’t blame him. Working for Tony Stark must be tiring. “I warned you, I-” “Steve, we didn’t do this on purpose!” “Still!” “My security system didn’t alarm me. I figured we were safe.” “Safe,” MJ deadpans “-god. Y’all gotta stop blaming each other. We know neither of you did this on purpose, so all we gotta do now is figure out a solution.” Peter sends her a grateful smile before turning to Tony.
“Have you dealt with something like this before? Do you know how to shut it down?” Tony nods slowly. Not a good sign. Tony can be stubborn. Frustrated. But he never displays a sign of powerlessness as he does now. “Media is too fast. Trying to stop the fire is a lost cause. We either confirm or deny.”
They’re quiet for a moment. Peter isn’t sure what to say next. Lying… He hates lying. Doesn’t think it’ll help solve issues in the long run. Lying will probably only make it worse. But if they admit the truth… He doesn’t even want to think about the possible consequences. Steve groans and leans forward on his elbows resting on the table. “I talked to the PR-team quickly. They recommended to try and keep this quiet until at least the end of the season. Three more weeks.” Tony shakes his head at that. “People aren’t going to wait that long. Celebrity Spin-Off is too commercial. People are too invested. They won’t let it slide, trust me. We ain't straight enough.” Peter lets the words sink in. He wonders if there’s an easy way out of this at all. Probably not. If there is, they would’ve known. “What if we…” he starts. Steve and Tony raise their heads at him. MJ only grins. “Keep going.” “Well, an official statement is way too heavy. I mean, of course, we’re two men, but we’re adults, and nothing about this kiss is illegal. If we make it too heavy for ourselves, people will think of it as a scandal too.” “So you’re saying to ignore it? I told you that won’t-”
“No, Tony, hear me out.” Peter takes another breath. “We don’t say shit. We skate our routine. By the end, we kiss each other. Confirming what the public already knows anyway.”
MJ nods approvingly and wants to give him a high five, but Steve shakes his head. “You could eliminate yourselves like that if people don’t vote-” This time, it’s Tony who speaks up. “Y’know what, I agree with Peter. They already know what’s going on anyways. Heck, I got myself tangled up in this show by accident because I didn’t want to play along with the “everyone in the skating world is straight”-norm. I’d rather get eliminated over a kiss than rumors, and eh, it’s just a show anyway. I don’t mind if we don’t win.” Steve throws his arms up. “Alright, alright, you’re right. It’s not our TV show. Skating is what we do best. If this is what you want, I’ll play along with you.” Peter glows up. He has worked with both Steve and MJ from the very start of his actual skating career at the Midtown Ice Arena, and the fact that they both support him means the world.
“Hey Peter, shouldn’t you be at-” Ned’s mouth drops when he sees Tony Stark. The boy is standing in the doorway, still wearing his PJ’s, his laptop clutched to his chest. “H-Hi?”
-
Peter and Tony skate towards the middle of the rink. It’s time for their second choreo of the night. The music hasn’t started yet, so it’s simple, easy forward strokes until they come to a halt. Peter can tell Tony finally masters his skates outside their choreos too. The subtle movements are smooth and steady. Peter is proud of him. Of his hard work and dedication toward something he’d never done before.
I am flesh and I am bone Rise up, ting ting, like glitter and gold
Peter grins, their tight outfits shining in the spotlights. Blinding Lights. Peter huffs quietly, not showing it but having fun about his little inward joke. They’d performed the altered version of that choreo for that earlier this night. His arm aches a little now, but it’s doable. He’s skated with worse pains before. Like that time he broke his little toe. Or the time- No. Focus.
Peter jumps swiftly into Tony’s arms for the stationary lift- careful to keep his blades away from Tony’s body. Tony catches him easily and supports his back with the warm, big, broad hands. Peter loves being held like this. It's almost bridal style, the way they're holding one another. God, Tony is so handsome from up close. The stubble on his cheeks. Little marks and spots are covering the skin and showing the man's many years of experience here on earth.
I've got fire in my soul Rise up, ting ting, like glitter
On the first ‘ting’, Peter throws his head back and lifts his right leg up straight. The next, he comes back in bridal style and easily slides down until his knees rest on Tony’s upper legs. From there, the music picks up, and Peter rolls his shoulders down sensually while Tony bends his knees further. Their foreheads press together, and Peter licks his lips as he resists the urge to kiss the man already. Peter then lowers his skates back onto the ice and lets go of Tony when he feels the grip. Lowering his body, coming back up with a sexy body roll. The audience whistles. Peter grins and reaches his arm out to grab Tony’s hand, wincing slightly at the sharp pain shooting through his deltoid. Fuck. He keeps smiling though and refocuses on the next part of the sequence. Twizzles. Then, skating their short eight-figure before both lifting a leg to slide forward in a paired spiral.
Do you ponder the manner of things In the dark The dark, the dark, the dark
Forward strokes. Peter quickly glances at Tony before he changes his hand position. The man looks so happy. So proud of himself. Peter smiles and nods at Tony as a sign he’s ready for the loop lift. It’s a challenging lift for Peter as he always has to keep himself from jumping too high- it’s not a loop jump. So instead, he pushes himself off the ice just enough for Tony to lift him, spin the both of them around and then put him back down.
I am flesh and I am bone Arise, ting ting, like glitter and gold
Here comes the most challenging part. Peter grits his teeth together. He’s done the death spiral so often he isn’t scared of it. Tony is a bit, though.
I've got fire in my soul Rise up, ting ting, like glitter
Peter tries to give Tony the most encouraging smile he can muster up as they shift their hand positions. They start circling and spinning, and once they’ve got momentum, Peter takes a leap of faith and lowers himself into the death spiral.
'Cause everybody's in the backroom's Spinning up Don't know what you're asking for
Tony grips him tightly- the two-handed version still – and Peter feels so fucking free as the man spins him around and around. They’re going a tad too slow, so Peter squeezes Tony’s hand as a sign to pull him back up. Thank god the man catches on. To drag out time now that they're up early, Peter wraps his arms around Tony’s neck gently- both their bodies still spinning on the spot.
And everybody's in the front room's Tripping out You left your bottle at the door
They come to a halt, their chests falling and rising rapidly due to the exercise. Simultaneously, the song has the breathy part- thanks to Steve for the little detail. From there, they both know there’s only one bit left before the song comes to an end. “You got this,” Peter whispers quickly before they break away from one another. The turn, facing the same end of the rink as they start running. Actual running, on the ice. They go faster and faster until halfway through, they both drop onto one knee and lean into a deep backbend as they slide forward. The audience goes wild. Steve knows how much Peter loves Johnny Weir, a famous Olympic figure skater, for his unconventional costumes and choreos. When Steve told Peter they were going to use his signature move, Peter had been thrilled. They hadn’t been so sure about Tony being able to pull it off, but the man was way more flexible than he seemed, and here they are. Peter feels ecstatic.
Like glitter and gold Like glitter Like glitter and gold Like glitter
They slow down. Leaning back up. They moved into some sort of V-shape, closer and closer to the other, so now that their knees are almost touching, they pull each other in closer until Tony is fully kneeling and has Peter splayed out in his lap. The song ends. The audience almost starts to cheer, but not before Tony leans in and passionately crashes their lips together. Tony’s lips are salty from the exercise, yet so soft and firm and already contain a strange hint of familiarity. Peter moans slightly, deepening the kiss now that they still can. He’s reeling with the loud applause and cheers and confused noises coming from the crowd around them. He knows they made the right decision.
After a few seconds, he reluctantly pulls back. Turning around proudly and sticking his still good arm in the air. He doesn’t make eye contact with anyone. Not with the people seated in the first row, not with Beck, who made his way on the ice for the standard post-choreo interview. Peter simply stands there.
This is me. He thinks. Mom and dad, this one's for you. I’m taking back control of the ice.

Robbery Gone Wrong
It was a chilly Friday night in late January with temperatures expected to drop down into the single digits with snow flurries. A lot of people decided to stay in that night, but the cold never bothered Jocelyn and Jose, so they decided to go into town for a date night. Jose was a 28 year old Hispanic male who had a large, husky frame with a comb-over hairstyle and clean shave. He worked as a car salesperson at a local car dealership and was considered a gentle giant by those who knew him. His girlfriend of a little over a year was Jocelyn. She was a 25 year old black girl who worked as a hairdresser. She was of average height and slim build, had a medium length lob hairstyle with bangs, a small tattoo on her left wrist, and a belly button ring.
The happy couple’s date night started off with food and drinks at a sushi restaurant they both liked, and then followed that up some ice skating at a nearby ice rink. After an hour or two of ice skating, the two of them decided to call it a night and walk back to the car which was parked in a public lot a few blocks away. Unfortunately, they’d never make it back to the car.
The couple walked back towards the car by themselves holding hands with one another. There wasn’t anyone else around, and the night was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. But the couple would quickly realize it was a little too quiet. A tall, thin white man who had a really rough look to him appeared seemingly out of nowhere. The man pulled out a knife, holding it up to Jose and started yelling at the young couple, demanding them to hand over their wallets. Jose got between Jocelyn and the robber, and told his girlfriend to run to the car and call 911 on her cell phone. Jocelyn stood on the sidewalk frozen in fear, looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
The mugger angrily demanded the couple’s wallets once again. Jose responded by shoving the attacker, knocking him down to the pavement. Jose once again told a terrified Jocelyn to run, but she was frozen with fear. Instead of the hard shove to the ground thwarting the attacker, he sprung right back up and began stabbing away at Jose. The first wound was to Jose’s neck and the second was to the anterior chest, with the others occurring on his left forearm as self defense wounds. Jocelyn began crying and attempted to run away, but the attacker shifted their attention to Jocelyn since she was a witness. The robber quickly caught up to her and stabbed her multiple times: twice in the back, near the left shoulderblade, and once in the left armpit, which occurred when Jocelyn tried to defend herself.
After the vicious attack, the robber picked up both victims wallets, tossed the bloody knife into a nearby dumpster, and made a beeline out of there, disappearing westbound down a nearby side street. Unbeknownst to the attacker, there was an eyewitness about 100 yards away from the attack who alerted 911, informing them of a robbery turned double stabbing, and the suspect fled on foot, naming the side street.
First responders arrived on scene in the coming minutes, finding Jose motionless in a pool of his own blood and Jocelyn crying hysterically, with her clothes bloodied up. The first set of medics looked after Jose. His eyes were half open, staring lifelessly off towards his girlfriend. He was pulseless and had agonal respirations, so his jacket and shirt were cut off and resuscitation efforts began on him. One medic performed deep, violent chest compressions on him while the other stuck the defib pads to his bare chest. The defibrillator pads corresponding heart monitor read PEA, so the one medic continued chest compressions while the other set up IVs, pushing a round of epinephrine and atropine into the IV port, while also hanging a bag of ringer’s lactate to commence fluid resuscitation. Once IV drugs and fluids were set up, one medic attempted rapid sequence intubation. This proved to be a difficult situation since his airway was flooded with bright red arterial blood. The medics turned the man onto his side in an attempt to clear his airway, only for it to quickly refill with that same arterial blood. “probably a carotid artery lac or tracheal transection… or maybe even both.” One medic said to the other, shaking their head. A second attempt at intubation was attempted, but the bottom of the ET tube protruded from a neck laceration, confirming a severed trachea. “we need to trach him.” One of the medics called out.
Jose’s neck below the Adam’s apple was splashed with betadine and a quick, 1 inch cut was made. After the initial cut, the thyroid was located. Next, a vertical incision was made between the cricothyroid membrane and the thyroid cartilage. Once this tissue was incised, the tracheal rings were exposed. The site was bloodier and more obstructed than usual, but the medics were able to incise between 2 lower tracheal rings and place a tracheotomy tube. The tube was secured with a white cuff and an ambu bag was attached. After the surgical airway was confirmed, resuscitation efforts resumed. The burly man’s chest was pumped repeatedly, but still remained in PEA.
While all that was going on, the other set of medics tended to Jocelyn, who laid just a few feet away. The medics removed her jacket and shirt, only sparing her black bra. The medics rolled her onto her side to locate the stab wounds, noticing that 2 were to the posterior torso and 1 in the left axilla. Jocelyn’s breath sounds were diminished on the left side, and sounded winded when talking to the medics. One of the stab wound on her back turned out to be an open pneumothorax (or colloquially known as a sucking chest wound), so a pressure dressing was applied, while the other 2 wounds were packed and covered. A 5 lead ECG with a portable heart monitor was set up. On scene, Jocelyn’s vital signs were: BP 80/43, pulse 134bpm, oxygen saturation 93%. With these stats in mind, the medics placed 2 large bore IVs, hanging a bag of ringer’s lactate and pushed a round of morphine for pain management. Jocelyn was then moved onto a gurney and whisked away into a nearby ambulance.
The other set of medics continued coding Jose after Jocelyn’s ambulance sped off towards the emergency department. A 2nd dose of drugs were able to convert the young man to v-fib, so the defib pads were charged to 250 and a shock was delivered. The man’s chunky body flopped on the sidewalk, failing to respond to the first shock. After suctioning his trach tube and a cycle of compressions, the medics shocked him again at 300 joules. The slightly increased strength of the shock caused his back to arch just above the snow dusted pavement, shooting his chest upwards. Shock #2 failed to achieve ROSC, so a third shock at 360 was delivered. His torso shook harshly while the electricity ran through Jose’s dying body. This 3rd shock sent him into asystole. Unfortunately, the medics felt that this deterioration combined with his extensive injuries made him unsalvageable, so the medics called time of death at 9:57pm. The ambu bag was detached from the trach tube and the defib pads were peeled off his chest. After all other equipment was removed, the medics placed the man into a body bag and handed him off to the county coroner’s office.
Jocelyn’s ambulance arrived at the emergency department a few minutes later. She was still hypotensive and tachycardic, showing signs of hypovolemic shock. Tears rolled down her face while she asked about Jose in between labored breaths. A nurse told the young woman that the paramedics were taking care of him, even though the ER staff were already informed of his death.
The trauma team quickly sprung into action after Jocelyn was transferred onto the trauma room table. 4 units of unmatched o-neg, 2 units of platelets, and 2 units of FFP were hung to begin blood transfusion. A CBC, BMP, and tox screen were ordered, along with a chest x-ray, and echocardiogram. The chest x-ray showed a left sided tension pneumothorax with right sided tracheal deviation, and the echo came back clean. However, auscultation of the heart revealed distant heart sounds and a bruit de moulin murmur.
The trauma team’s next course of action was left sided chest tube placement to alleviate the tension pneumothorax. The left ribcage was rapidly sterilized with betadine before a 1 inch incision was made in between Jocelyn’s ribs. Jocelyn moaned in pain, feeling the cold, metal blade’s every move. Once the incision opening was created, the trauma team inserted a large, flexible tube into the space, navigating it deep into the incision site, into the thoracic cavity. The insertion of the tube was extremely painful for Jocelyn, as she yelped loudly during the whole insertion. After the chest tube was placed, a large clump of air shot out of the tube, along with 300ML of blood.
After the chest tube placement, Jocelyn’s breathing improved, but she still remained hemodynamically unstable. One nurse pointed out jugular venous distention, so the attending physician ordered a repeat echocardiogram on the young woman. In the 2nd echocardiogram, the heart appeared obscured. The heart can look obscured during pneumothorax because of excess air in the chest cavity, but since the chest tube was placed, that was unlikely. With that in mind, the other diagnosis was something known as pneumopericardium. This is a situation where air becomes trapped in the lining around the heart, which squeezes the heart and ultimately affects its ability to pump blood normally. With this diagnosis being agreed upon, the trauma team decided to perform an ultrasound guided subxiphoid percutaneous pericardiocentesis.
A nurse snipped off Jocelyn’s bra, exposing her perky C cup breasts. While the needle was being prepped, the subxiphoid portion of her chest was wiped down with alcohol wipes. The echocardiogram was put back onto her chest to provide a visual aid for the doctor. Next, a large, fine needle was inserted into the chest cavity below the bottom portion of the sternum at a 45 degree angle. The procedure wasn’t overly painful for Jocelyn, but she felt a burning sensation and pressure from the needle pinching it’s way further into her chest. Moments later, the needle was at the correct location, and the plunger was carefully pulled back. The body of the needle filled with air, confirming the pneumopericardium diagnosis. After the air was aspirated, the needle was carefully withdrawn from her chest.
After the pericardiocentesis, Jocelyn began to drift in and out of consciousness and her vital signs started to plummet rapidly. The sudden decline prompted the trauma team to perform rapid sequence intubation. In the following moments, a 7.0 ET tube was placed into Jocelyn’s airway and held in place with a blue tube holder.
Shortly after intubation, things took a turn for the worse. The monitors began chirping loudly, displaying v-fib. One of the nurses started deep, violent chest compressions as the attending physician called for a thoracotomy tray. Jocelyn’s perky breasts bounced and jiggled while her bare chest was splashed with betadine. With harsh compressions ongoing just inches away, the doctor picked up a 10 blade scalpel and made an incision in the 5th intercostal space starting at the sternal border, extending across the chest, under the left breast, and ending just shy of the mid axillary area just an inch or so below an already existing stab wound. With the first cut out of the way, the underlying fat, muscle, and connective tissue was cut and snipped away, making a space between the 4th and 5th ribs for the spreader. Once an adequate space was created, a finochietto rib spreader was placed into the opening with the bar pointing up towards the patient’s shoulder. While CPR continued, the knobs on the spreader were turned, forcing Jocelyn’s ribs apart. Her belly bounced outwards from the force of the compressions as a cracking and popping sound filled the room from the rib spreader.
There was a rush of both blood and air upon entry to the chest cavity, so suction was applied to the area and a 2nd chest tube was placed for additional drainage. Once a satisfactory view of the thoracic structures was obtained, a pericardiotomy was performed. Air exited from the incision site, but there was still air trapped in the posterior portion of the heart. The incision was extended and the heart was delivered, but the posterior pericardium still had air trapped in it. With internal massage beginning, a cross clamp was placed on the descending aorta near the diaphragm and another clamp was placed on the left pulmonary hilum since the moderate blood loss couldn’t be explained. After a few cycles of internal massage, a 2nd pericardiocentesis was performed to aspirate the remaining trapped air from the posterior pericardium. The large, thin needle was stuck deep in the fidgeting organ, and the body or the needle aspirated more air. The back of the heart still felt a bit inflated, almost like a fleshy balloon of sorts, so a small drain was placed into the pericardiotomy incision site.
The trauma team then decided to shock Jocelyn with the internal paddles. The large, spoon shaped paddles were charged to 20 joules and lowered into the young woman’s exposed chest cavity. A dull, wet thump was heard during the delivery of the shock. V-fib was still present, so a cycle of internal massage was performed while the internal paddles were readied. A wet, rhythmic squishing sound was heard during internal massage. The doctor could feel Jocelyn’s heart weakly fidgeting around in their hands as they manually pumped the girl’s heart.
In a moment’s notice, the next shock was delivered. Shock #2 was a 30 joule shock, which caused the patient’s torso to flop violently on the table for a brief moment. No change was present on the monitors, so internal massage was resumed and doses of atropine and epinephrine were injected intravenously. The internal paddles were recharged to 30 joules in the meantime, and placed around each side of Jocelyn’s frantically twitching heart. The next shock caused her toes to curl, showing off the large, prominent wrinkles in the soles of her size 9 feet. This shock sent the attractive 25 year old into PEA, so internal compressions were immediately restarted.
Jocelyn received numerous cycles of internal compressions, and another 2 doses of drugs before converting to v-fib at the 12 minute mark of the code. The internal paddles were recharged and a 30j shock was delivered. Jocelyn’s full breasts jiggled around while the quick jolt of electricity ran through her dying body. Once again, she remained in v-fib, so another shock at 40j was delivered shortly afterwards. Her torso flopped quickly on the table, and her left arm hung off the table. The internal paddles were recharged and placed around the woman’s fidgeting heart, and another 40j shock was delivered. This shock caused Jocelyn’s feet to leap up slightly above the table before crashing back down a second later, once again wrinkling her beautiful, size 9 soles.
The trauma team continued coding the beautiful, young stabbing victim. Jocelyn was shocked 3 more times with the internal paddles, given 2 more doses of drugs, and given numerous cycles of internal massage. Fixed and dilated pupils were reported at the 20 minute mark of the code, so resuscitation efforts were terminated at that point. Jocelyn’s time of death was called at 10:48pm while she was still in v-fib.
The ambu bag was detached and the monitors were turned off. The attending physician thanked everyone for their efforts before exiting the room, feeling defeated. The ER nurses removed the rest of the equipment and placed a cover and toe tag on Jocelyn before sending her off to the hospital morgue.
Jocelyn’s autopsy concluded that she died from rampant pneumopericardium. Upon removal of the heart during autopsy, the pathologist discovered air within the coronary arteries- a lethal clinical entity associated with high mortality rates. A laceration the left lung, and laceration of one of the smaller arteries explained the blood loss, but it wasn’t enough to be considered the cause of death.
Jose’s autopsy occurred shortly before Jocelyn’s. He had received 2 devastating wounds: the neck wound severed both the common carotid artery and the mid-trachea, while the chest wound hit the aortic arch just above the heart. Even if he made it to the hospital, it’s highly unlikely that a good outcome would’ve occurred.
The young couple’s attacker was identified via fingerprints from the murder weapon found in the dumpster. The attacker was 47 year old Jeremy Wilson. Wilson has been in and out of jail most of his adult life, with prior convictions such as drug possession, robbery, and burglary. He was located by detectives 4 days later in the next town over and was taken into police custody. He was charged with: 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, 1 count of armed robbery, and 1 count of felony battery. Due to the heinous nature of this crime, he received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Even though justice was served in this tragic case, it’ll never bring back the 2 young victims.
