Thoughts after the first group of FDs at GP France

L/R - can’t get over them doing a subpar version of S/D’s clown FD. Levels were very low and while there are some nice moments it felt overall unpolished.

D/N - hate the costumes but kind if dig the FD? they have potential and I enjoy them

T/V - I can’t get behind them. Their FDs are always the same, some nice lifts but it’s all too generic and they rock a lot when they twizzle which isn’t a good look for a team with their experience. The fall in the RD killed their chances for a bronze, but with the FD I don’t think they had a chance to begin with.

W/C - it’s tragic that they skate to Florence but do absolutely nothing with the music. MIDA really dropped the ball with choreography this season. Very two footed, barely any transitions and as always a glaring mistake (poor them they have had one in almost every skate in the past months). Something needs  to change for them but not sure what tbh.

K/R - The best they’ve skates in like 2 seasons? Not a fan of the program but overall solid. Good for them.

Every single year the camera work at GP France is legit the WORSE!

The ice dance field in GP France this weekend is weaker than the one at Skate Canada, with Guignard/Fabbri likely to win gold, and Canadanes likely to win silver, the fight for bronze is mostly open, but my moeny is on Lopareva/Brissaud. The new #1 french team skating in France - it has to be worth a bronze medal.

Thoughts after the second group of FDs at GP France:

P/B - their programs is nice and different but sloppy at times. Their free leg and lines rarely match and some moments were really glaring. Still a nice FD.

D/LM - @macaroni-rascal called it in advance that the French are likely to be the only ones to get a SB here and we weren’t very wrong. It’s a solid program and it was a solid skate, she really stands out. Was it 5 points better than their SB? Not sure.

L/P - Not a fan of the program Gui gave them, they don’t feel comfortable with it imo. She especially was really off today and was close to falling like 4 times. It was just completely sloppy all around. The fact that they scored 114 is unacceptable, I felt like 111 will be a gift from the judges and that they should get around 108, but the 114 is the first sign that they are getting a gigantic push this season regardless of what they put on the ice. Hate it.

Canadanes - best packages team, sexiest team, but like the rest also sloppy today. Twizzles were off, especially for Laurance, and the while the straight line  part of the combo lift is impressive, the rotational part is really underwhelming. Some nice moments in there but it needs to be like 30% better than it currently is with more speed for it to really slay. Oh, and that curve lift needs to go.

G/F - Struggling with the one thing that made them stand out - which is the levels (Canadanes had better levels on step sequences). Without it they don’t really stand out, and while the program is a bit of a departure for them, and there are nice moments, it’s not really something I will rush to watch again (like I did with Canadanes FD).

It’s funny that G/P currently have the top scoring RD and FD since it’s the result of scoring inflation in Skate Canada. GPF will be fascinating to watch.

L/P getting 0 GOE when every other team with mistake would have gotten negative GOE is beyond infuriating to me 

I want to like Lopareva/Brissaud but the scores they are getting for subpar performances are giving me horror flashbacks to the past.

I would have Canadanes 1st here, G/F might be the better skaters but their RD today fell flat and they didn’t get the levels that usually saves them

G/F twizzles were so off, it didn’t deserved the GOE it got in the slightest

T/V woke up and said “we are gonna help L/P win that bronze even if they fucked up!”, Yikes...

I have no idea what R/K are thinking, but our of all the “fake” Latin music RDs we dot this season, Adele might be the wildest choice. They did look better than last season so that’s something...
