Trick or Treat~!

Pairing: Che'nya x Floyd (could be read platonically or romantically)

Summary: It's finally Halloween night, but Floyd is in a bit of a slump. However, the arrival of a curious companion may just make the Halloween party a bit more interesting for him.

Notes: This is my first attempt at something following a prompt - specifically, "Trick or Treat" for the 2023 TWST Rarepair Halloween event. I'm trying to get more comfortable/practiced with writing prose (which is why this wasn't posted on the 30th... oops), and only vaguely ended up following the prompt. I'm fairly happy with how this little piece turned out, though!

Floyd wanted to take a break.

It was Halloween, and all he had done the entire week was work, work, work. Getting costumes ready, decorating, helping with their dorm's presentation, plus cooking and serving at the Lounge, all on top of normal classes?

Sure, it was fun, especially getting to show off Octavinelle's cool setup, and 'taking care of' those misbehaving visitors. But now? Everything felt draining and boring, and Floyd simply wanted to leave, which sucked because the actual Halloween party had just started!

Maybe he should just ditch and go back to his dorm; being in a funk when everyone else is having fun around you is not enjoyable. He slumped down on a bench and unwrapped a sweet he had picked up earlier, before wrapping it up again. Ugh, not even in the mood for that candy he wanted only a few minutes ago.

As he shoved the sweet back into his pocket and was about to get up from the bench to leave, Floyd heard a rustle behind him. Someone was quietly humming, and… laughing? The sound gradually moved to his side, towards the empty side of the bench.

“Trick or treat~”

Floyd turned to face the voice. "Listen, man, I'm not in the mood to—” he froze, staring at the figure beside him. “Hang on a second, where's your body!?"

A toothy smile came to the face of the head that currently floated beside Floyd. "Oh, it's here.... or maybe it's there." A pair of hands materialized on either side of this boy's head, followed by the rest of his body.

“I'm just kidding. Mind if I take a seat? I’d like to rest up before I keep purrowling around and startling people.”

Floyd blinked, then raised an eyebrow. “Uh, go for it.”

This guy was... weird, and it was hard to tell if he'd be annoying, or interesting. "You don't go here, do ya? At least, I’ve never seen you before. And you’re no ghost, either.”

The cat-like boy shook his head, his jewellery jingling softly. "I'm just passing through for the festivities and collecting treats. Scaring some people, too. That’s loads of fun. And it's always nice to see my friends let loose."

Floyd had a vague memory surface. "Ohh... you must be that RSA boy who's friends with Sea Turtle and Goldfishie."

"'Sea Turtle' and 'Goldfishie', hey? Those are good names for my green and red friends. Cats are known for liking fish." He leaned forward, his grin growing. “Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Floyd nodded, “Floyd Leech. It's nice to meet you, too.” He looked curiously at the boy beside him, taking in his shaggy hair, piercings, and impish smile.

"You're not what I expected.” Floyd smiled, "But you seem fun, Catfish. I didn't think Goldfishie would get along with someone so... interesting."

Che'nya's eyes lit up slightly. "Catfish? Heh heh heh, most people call me Che'nya, but I guess that works. And I’ve heard some… interesting stories about you, too."

He stretched his legs out in front of him, leaning back with his arms behind his head as he sighed. "But yeah, I don't think Riddle could shake me if he tried."

"I'm almost jealous." Floyd tipped his head slightly. "Most of the time, Goldfishie likes to swim away before I can play with him."

Che'nya laughed, "Well, if you're wondering, he 'swam off' that way." He pointed off to the side. “Just don’t be rough with him. I don’t like people mistreating my friends.”

Floyd looked off into the crowd where he had pointed, and let out a small laugh. “Alright, good to know. Maybe I’ll find him later, if I feel like it”, he smiled and sat back. “And Goldfishie’s stronger than he looks, but I guess you’d know that.”

Che’nya nodded, then leaned closer with a mischievous glint in his eye. "You know, I bet we could do something that would really surprise him.”

Floyd turned slightly towards Che’nya, and flashed a smile. “Yeah, we probably could. I think we should talk more in the future, Catfish. You seem pretty fun.”

Che’nya grinned, “You seem pretty fun, too.”

"Well,” he stretched his arms above his head. “I think I’m going to go and find some more treats… and play some more tricks tonight. I'll catch you around, Floyd."

With a haunting giggle echoing in his ears, Floyd watched as the boy beside him faded into nothingness, just the same way he had arrived.

What a weird guy.

Floyd unwrapped the candy he had pocketed earlier, then popped it into his mouth. Maybe this party was worth staying at after all.

since (iirc) ichika canonically owns a miku voicebank (and if she actually doesn't, then she now owns because i Said So) i think it'd be cute if the rest of unit leaders owned a voicebank of their respective vocaloid as well

minori having a rin voicebank and using it to reproduce audio whenever the show recording she wanted to train her choreography with got struck with copyright. maybe kohane having a meiko voicebank and akito having a len voicebank (or the other way around) so there would be one for both vivids and bad dogs, since vbs have two main vocaloids either way. tsukasa having a kaito voicebank and trying to make his own songs on piano in middle school (but in the end deciding that being a vocap is not for him). and since ichika already has miku, kanade having a luka voicebank her parents bought her after hearing her first songs. this sorta stuff

Short Version: The LeBlanche parents are probably absent and or neglectful (or worse, dead) and Neige has abandonment issues now because of it.

Long Version:

So we know that Neige lived with the Dwarfs since they were children, and that Neige leave rehearsals early to do chores at home. As mentioned by Vil in Book 6

So like, where are his parents? Or guardians, for that matter? Why is a child out here raising themselves, and seven other children? Maybe Neige does have parents but they're neglectful, or absent.

I don't wanna go so far as to say they might be dead since we don't have enough proof of that yet. But still.

What if Neige acts all cute and nice because he's afraid of disappointing others and then leaving him, and this stems from the fact that he was pretty much alone as a child, and doesn't want people to abandon him again.

To be clear, I think Neige's friendly, relatable personality IS real, and he is genuinely a good person (I despise those posts where they make Neige deceivingly nice) he just doesn't know how to set boundaries because he doesn't want to disappoint his fans and the people around him.

Maybe Neige does know that Vil doesn't like him, and that hurts because Neige really sees Vil as a friend, and knowing that Vil doesn't like him is terrifying to him because that means he'll leave him.

#they deserve more love and discussion #saying this while also not knowing what to say other than they’re so fucking good #alan wake 2 #i think it’s partially because poets of the fall’s tracks are iconic so of course they’re in the spotlight (as deserved)#but also the CHAPTER SONGS. them being made for a given chatacter(s) with the help of Sam lakes poetry #the changes with ‘this road’ by Poe with every Alan chapter. becoming more distorted and revealing lyrics and the spiral #the scratch song being 1) hilarious and 2) similar to Zane’s poetry in the aw1 arg #the emotion in superhero when saga feels lost at the story making it so Logan was gone #the lines of her feeling like a ghost in this story forming around her.. how she feels guilty and absent for both what the story’s doing #and being away from Logan because of her job. ashdhhhhjhh my heart #AND. follow you into the dark HAS to be alice. which kills me because at for at I thought of Alan #but no. Alice jumped in the dark place after him. it’s so !!!!!!!!!!!#the rabbit hole line. oh man. i picked up the sidestory to @just-a-carrot's five-arc horror epic a couple days ago and i'm so glad i did. i'll probably be talking nonstop and/or drawing about it for days

It's crazy to think how altered my perception of all this would be if they showed us the full story between Malleus and Lilia before they showed us the full story between Silver and Lilia

#it's getting late and I don't think I can properly expand on this but #maybe I would have felt just as betrayed for Malleus as I am now for Silver if we saw the story between Lilia and Silver after theirs #they both need Lilia to tell them that he loves them and to tell Lilia that they love him #they both deserved so much more from him and they were both lied to #but I think both stories on their own with how they are expressed #give the impression that Malleus/Silver are the most important thing (singular) to happen to Lilia #and obviously that Lilia was the most important thing to happen to them #it's hard to say because that's not the story we were ultimately given #but regardless the more I think about it the more firmly I come to the conclusion that there is no most special boy #Malleus taught him to love and Silver taught him to be loved #Lilia told Malleus to stay alive no matter what and Silver told Lilia to stay alive no matter what #and now Lilia has to learn how to be loved by Malleus and how to truly love Silver #twst book 7 #book 7 spoilers #twisted wonderland book 7

ok i dont think this is anything related to the watchmaker and all that stuff, but i think its insane that the Family turns traitors into memory zone memes because the concept of the memory zone memes is just that they were created by the true Dreamscape and from the emotions of those within the Dreamscape

this was from the emoscape with Mr McCoy in Dewlight Pavilion, where he was ordered by the Dreammaster to turn his siblings, who were apparently selling information to the IPC about the Family, into memory zone memes, but now i'm wondering just how many people got turned into memory zone memes for being a traitor

I would have said too that maybe the Family - trying to seek out the traitor and the killer of the first Oak Family Head - framed the Watchmaker and possibly turned him into a memory zone meme as well, but the Family is trying to search for the Watchmaker so that's less likely the case. But I just love seeing how fucked up actually the Family can be AND getting more information about the Dreammaster since there really isn't much of anything
