okay it's not my usual posting but... simon riley is on my mind and i can't get him out and ive been thinking about ice hockey goalie simon riley...
simon who really doesn't care that he's been dubbed the best goalie in the league, that he's the name all the hockey kids who want to be goalies say when they're asked who they want to be when they grow up.
but for all the fame, no one knows anything about him off the ice. they only know the glimpses of the face they get behind the mask, the scar that goes over one eyebrow and points down to his eyes - the only part of his face that can be seen clearly. he gets called Ghost, the name chanted in the stands for nearly the entire time he's on the ice.
he towers above the rest of the team, even broader under all of the padding that makes him look like a giant hunk of a man.
even his team don't know him that well, not really. he's already on the ice, full kit on, when they arrive to training, and he's still there when they leave. if he's ever out for drinks at the bar with them he's in a seat that is nearly completely in the dark, hazel eyes but not much else can be seen under the low lighting. it's almost eerie. some of the new guys try and get a glimpse of his face at the start of every season but they eventually give up.
you know him, though. you're the girl he has at home, who's always in the stands and watching him with everyone else but who knows what lies beneath it all.
you're the girl he walks up to, helmet already on and arm swinging around your shoulder after a game as he hands you the other, carefully clicking the strap under your chin until your sitting on the bike behind him and he's tearing down the road back home.
home where he's open with you, where he's not the man hidden behind the helmet but your simon.

Ghost, staring at Moose: I want to be his friend
Soap: … then go talk to him?
Ghost: No
Soap: Simon, in order to become friends you have to have actual conversations. Watching him from a distance is not the way to do it
Ghost: I’m bad at social interactions and maintaining relationships. I’ll stick with staring
Moose: Why is he STARING AT ME???
Shadow 06: You’re hot
Moose: *unintelligible noises*

Iced Coffee
Simon Riley x male!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You always liked coffee, all sorts. You mainly liked ice coffee, you weren’t sure why; maybe it was because you thought it was fancy looking.
One winters day in January it started snowing. Your boss texted you to work in from home, you were happy with that. You were down stairs when you received the text, you may as well make a coffee since you were up. Recently you found an ice coffee pack when you went last shopping with your husband, Simon.
You wanted to try it specifically that morning. As you were making your coffee you felt strong arms wrapping around your waist, it was your husband, Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley. “You not workin’ from home, bloody baltic outside?” His morning voice was deep and groggy.
“Well I only got the text saying I was working from home.” You pointed at your outfit. You had your work shirt on yet you still had your pj bottoms on. Simon nuzzled his face in your neck, the smell of coffee wafted into his nose. When he looked down and saw ice in the glass that was containing your coffee he gave you a look
You didn’t know what kind of look,
But it was certainly a judgy one.
“What are you doing, love?” He asked just staring at the coffee below him. “Making coffee, like I do every morning, why?”
“No, why are you putting ice..in your coffee..in the dead middle of winter?” His eyes flicked from you, to the coffee, to the snow that was falling outside.
You only shrug your shoulders and took the cup to your lips and drank it.
Your husband stared at you in disbelief when you drank it. He kissed your temple when you placed the glass down and let go of you to put the kettle on for himself. “You’re going to get cold, you bloody lunatic.” He joked with a smile. “My husband is a bloody lunatic.” He said shaking his head with a smile, you kissed him on the lips as he leaned on the counter top, your cold lips touching his.
When you both pulled away he clicked his tongue, “I’m telling you this right now, your lips feel like the Artic.” He joked, he took your cheeks in his calloused hands and pecked your lips multiple times before letting go. “Yet you still want to kiss me?” You brought the glass back up to your lips again.
“Always.” He says as he takes your hand and kisses your knuckles with a smirk plastered on his lips.

Ghost has poor circulation and that's why he always wears gloves (also because he paints his nails), he simply runs cold.
Ghost absolutely hates being cold
when he and Soap got closer, John started to play with Ghost's hands. Ghost loves it because it keeps his hands warm.
Soap gives him hand and feet massages to help with his circulation
when they sleep together, Soap sleeps just in his underwear so Ghost can put his hands between Johnny's thighs.
Soap screams at him for this, because "Simon whit th' heck! Ye are freezing!", but lets him do it anyway.
Soap's grandma crochets him a pair of woolen gloves.
When Soap has a headache Ghost caresses his temple with his cold hand, it's sooting to Soap.

Making Progress
Simon "Ghost" Riley x GN S/O
AN: So I did a thing. I was dragged into the COD fandom kicking and screaming and now I can't get the skull man or the feral Scot out of my head. Enjoy!
Word Count: 2,172
Tumblr media
You gracelessly slumped into one of the seats that lined the right wall of the helo's hull with a relieved groan that probably wasn't all that appropriate outside of certain bedroom activities if the several wide-eyed stares you suddenly found aimed your way by the soldiers dutifully filing into the bird was any indication, but you were much too tired to care about the mix of shocked and judgmental looks being thrown your way.
You still had your headphones on, the low bass music humming through the speakers keeping your hands from shaking like they wanted to when you weren't holding a weapon. The weariness that seemed intent on weighing down your frame reared its ugly head now that you were coming down from the rush of adrenaline that you got every time you went out into the field.
You leaned your head back on the metal wall behind your chosen seat and closed your eyes, not even bothering to buckle yourself in as you instead focused on taking deep breaths, the floor under your boots vibrating as the rest of your haggard team moved about to secure the helo for lift off.
You figured that it wouldn’t be much longer before they closed the bay doors to seal them in if the faint rumbling sound of the engine warming up echoing through the hull as the massive blades atop the helo slowly began to spin was any indication.
You were distracted from your musings when you heard someone take the open seat next to you. You looked over to see none other than Ghost, the man not bothering to even look up from his task to meet your questioning stare as he meticulously buckled in.
A silent and awkward tension slowly built up between you two, and Ghost still hadn't even offered a word of greeting.
You were about to break the silence with something when the helo began picking up speed, its blades spinning faster and louder and causing you to quickly buckle your own seat belt without even thinking about it, the noise of the engine drowning out the music that you had been listening to.
The helo slowly began to rise into the air as its rotors reached the speed needed for it to lift off, moving up until you could see the city below through the windows getting smaller.
You lifted a hand up to grab your headphones, shifting one of the earpads away from your ear to rest against the side of your head before you decided to break the silence yourself, clearing your throat nervously before speaking.
"Been a hell of a day, huh, sir?" You said while staring at the side of Ghost's head, his intimidating skull mask blocking your view of his face as you tried to break the ice.
The only response you got from Ghost was a slight grunt, his mask not moving from his straight and relaxed staring. His complete lack of emotion made it feel as if he hadn't even heard you, his only other reaction being him shifting his gun to the side, the barrel pointed off behind him. And, after a few more seconds of silence, he finally spoke up again. "Yes. It has."
"What are you gonna do to unwind when we get back? I personally feel that we could all do with a nap." You stated with a longing sigh, you desperately missed your bed but, at the rate that you were going, you'd be willing to lay on a slab of concrete if it meant that you could get a few uninterrupted hours of sleep.
"Nothing." Ghost stated coldly, his answer blunt and almost unnaturally calm. He didn't seem to be annoyed or anything, just that simple answer of 'nothing'. "You?"
You blinked at him for a moment, caught off guard by Ghost actually actively engaging you in conversation by prompting you to give an answer of your own. "Uh, I was thinking that I'd take a shower and then crawl into bed and stay there until somebody checks up on me to make sure I haven't suddenly up and died." You replied with a shrug before squinting at Ghost curiously. "You really have absolutely no routine to come down from such a shitty mission?"
"No."
Again, his response was short and blunt, no trace of any emotion in his voice as he stared out into nothing. His lack of any kind of routine was almost eerie, it was as if he simply didn't have a need for it, as if he simply had no reaction whatsoever to the exhausting and life-threatening events that you and the rest of the squad constantly got dragged into.
"Come on, Lt, there's gotta be something. Humor me." You prompted with a good-natured smile, and Ghost finally turned his head to level his dull, brown eyes at you.
"I sit in the dark. Sometimes for hours. And I think." Ghost responded simply, the fact that his eyes didn't betray a single hint of emotion even as he described this almost frighteningly dark process he went through after each mission only made that statement even more unsettling.
"Jesus." You breathed in response, not even sure if a paid therapist could successfully unpack all that laid beneath such a simple statement. "You like tea, right?" You asked a little bit desperately. "Why don't you try making a cup for yourself when we get back? I'll even join you if you'd like?"
You weren't even that big a fan of tea, but you'd tolerate the less than desirable taste if it meant that Ghost didn't sit in his room, in the dark, all by himself.
"Tea?" Ghost questioned blankly, still staring at you with that same cold, blank expression on his face, a slight head tilt accompanying his question as if it had simply never occurred to him to take up such an action. He then stayed silent for a few moments as he thought over the idea, before eventually responding in a soft yet simple, non-committal way. "Why not."
"Cool. Do you have a specific flavor of tea that you tend to gravitate towards?" You asked, feeling proud of the progress you've made in engaging Ghost in conversation so far. The man was antisocial, sure, but that didn't mean that he was impossible to talk to, it just meant that it took a little bit of elbow grease to get him to loosen up.
"...earl gray." Ghost stated with that same non-emotional blankness. It almost sounded more as if he was reciting his tea preference, like it was something that he had been programmed to say, rather than an actual personal decision.
"Oh, jeez. Could you be any more British?" You teased with a lighthearted grin.
"What would you like?" Ghost continued, countering your question with a question of his own, and completely ignoring your comment about his tea preferences.
You thought about it for a moment, tipping your head back against the metal hull behind you to squint up at the bright fluorescent lights that lit up the enclosed space before answering. "I'm personally fond of London Fog. Though, I feel inclined to warn you that it's very sweet."
The tea you liked took copious amounts of both milk and sugar to make, but you had one hell of a sweet tooth so you believed that it was very much worth the potential cavities. That being said, you figured that Ghost most likely wouldn’t enjoy London Fog tea since you’ve never even seen him use sugar in his own preferred tea on the rare occasion he had some free time to make some.
"I see." Ghost said in a slightly more questioning tone than usual, a sign that your comment about the tea being sweet had caught him off guard. Still, he didn't show any signs of dislike about the idea, and instead kept up his same blank stare as he considered this new information.
"Alright." He then said, seemingly approving of your choice.
"Perfect." You stated with a wide grin, feeling pleased as pie that you managed to rope the infamously reclusive Ghost into some social interaction with you.
"Oh! I have a playlist that I usually play to help me wind down and it's become kind of a habit to listen to it after missions. You don't mind if I were to play it aloud while we drink tea, do you?" You asked when the thought came to you, looking at Ghost imploringly and hoping that he wouldn't mind.
"I don't mind."
This time, Ghost replied in a slightly more casual tone, his statement sounding more like him stating an honest personal answer rather than merely a programmed response.
He then gave a simple nod as he added, "You can play it."
Your smile widened, an intense feeling of giddiness rising inside you as you realized that Ghost was warming up to you, the man's slow but steady emergence from his shell making you bold. "Do you listen to any music?"
This question seemed to catch Ghost off guard a little bit, a noticeable flinching of his eyebrows in surprise as a slow and confused nod crept up on his face.
"Rarely." He said hesitantly, seeming deep in thought for a few moments as he was clearly struggling to remember a song. "Classical, usually."
Your eyes widened as you stared at him incredulously. Heavy metal, sure you could see him listening to that angry stuff. Alternate, yeah maybe certain starving artists that sang about their like trauma and struggles or something. But classical? Never in a million years would you have guessed that the dark, brooding Ghost listened to classical music and if anybody would have suggested it, you would've laughed in their face.
"No way." You laughed, not unkindly, and lightly nudged his shoulder with your own, barely enough force to even jostle him since the last thing you wanted was for him to see the gesture as some sort of attack. "Who's your favorite composer?"
"...Beethoven." Ghost said simply, as if it were the most obvious answer in the world. "You?" He then asked after a short pause.
"You know... that actually makes a lot of sense." You mused as you stretched your arms over your head. From what you remembered of Beethoven's compositions, most of them were dark, powerful swells of music that scratched a very specific itch in the back of your hindbrain. "As for my favorite, I'll have to go with Bach."
"...Bach." Ghost echoed blandly, as if he were trying out the name for the first time and figuring how it sounded. After a few seconds, he replied. "What do you like about him?"
Ghost had never shown much curiosity to anything outside the scope of his usual tasks or duties, so seeing him so interested in such a mundane topic was... intriguing, to say the least.
"I guess I just like powerful music that tells a story and makes you feel something, ya know?" You said as you slouched back in your seat as much as the straps would let you.
"Powerful." Ghost echoed the word in a slow, monotonous drawl, and seemed to mull over the word for a few seconds before speaking again. "Define 'powerful' in this context."
He seemed oddly fixated on this particular word.
"The slow crescendo into a thunderous roar as the climax of the composition hits... until that intense mix of harmonies are all that's ringing in your ears... I suppose a word that I could've used instead of powerful could be 'all-consuming'." You gesticulated as you spoke. You were very passionate about music, as evidenced by how animated you became while rambling.
Ghost nodded slowly, seeming to consider your words as his unblinking, unmoving stare pierced through the helo's hull.
"And Bach's music makes you feel that way?"
There was that same note of mild surprise in his voice as he spoke, as if he couldn't quite believe you were able to describe the sensation so clearly.
"Yeah, I can add a few of my favorites to my playlist, just for you if you're interested." You said with a smile, only half teasing. There was no doubt in your mind that if Ghost did end up saying yes, you would absolutely add some classical tracks to your wind down playlist, if not to further encourage future get-togethers with you and maybe broaden his music tastes in the process.
Ghost stayed silent for another few moments, his face turning into a slight and rare grin as he found something genuinely amusing about what you had said.
"Sure." Ghost said simply, once again with that simple, neutral tone of voice. "...Thanks."
It was his first instance of genuine kindness throughout this entire short conversation, a small thank you that he added on in a soft, genuinely appreciative tone. He even flashed you a faint yet real smile, and while it was brief, it was more than most people had seen from him.
It was progress.

Ghost gets to be happy au actually turned into a fae au, sorry about that...
The crux of the au is that he gets to his family before Washington and is able to prevent the death of the only people he's ever truly cared about. He's got a lot of trauma from the whole buried alive and attempted brainwashing thing but he has a support system, his family is there to help him. Beth gets him in therapy, Tommy helps him manage his temper, his mum offers a safe shoulder to cry on, Joseph offers a little light of hope that everything can get better. He becomes "Ghost" because he cheated death, puts on the persona because he knows there are people waiting for him at home, people he wants to live for. His moral center is solid, he fights for a better world because he has hope for it, he takes down the bad guys to save other families, all the same reasons he already did but this time when he's asked what he's doing for Christmas leave he tells whoever asked, "gonna go see my mum."
He's happy, he smiles behind his mask when he sees kids playing in the street, he writes home, he shows off pictures of his nephew to anyone that asks, and makes it clear that he's already killed once for his family. He'd be the best uncle in the world, he and Tommy would be thick as thieves, he would get the life he always wanted and a reason to keep coming home.
Then he meets a pretty thing in a pub and wakes up the next morning without his heart.

What happened to when fanfics had a whole plot to them y'know a good storyline now you mainly just see them getting straight to the point now don't get me wrong those are good for when you don't want to read a whole fanfiction but when you want something with a storyline to it with whatever characters you can't really get those often especially with popular characters

Guys what if Soap's skull mask is red because he wants the enemies to focus their fire on him?
Like he's a Sergeant, he has people under his command, under his protection, we've seen him focus on saving people in that first mission, I think he's very protective.
I also think he's not very careful with his own well being, unconsciously thinks of himself as less important than everyone around him.
So what if he spray paints that mask bright red to make sure that if anyone there is spotted and shot it will be him? And if he's hurt, or dead, but everyone else is fine, then he's happy with that.
I dunno, I think unearthed trauma suits him. And I think it's funny that Soap's way of dealing with it is by being self-sacrificial, and Ghost way of dealing with it is the exact opposite, unconsciously leaving people behind if there's the slightest chance of them being dead because he can't stop or he's gonna die too (and he can't be back in a coffin and fire's a no go also so he just can't die period), and then being so deeply overwhelmed with guilt that it sends him in a spiral...
Makes for quite a funny couple dynamic... And honestly I don't even think Price would say much about it because you know he's just as fucked up and if he recognizes that they're fucked up then he has to acknowledge that he is too and he's barely hanging on as it is, but he can't break because what's gonna happen to his kids if he does?
I think in this case it's a job for Laswell, she's fucked up as well but has a very comforting wife and a therapist, so she's working on herself at least.

Another dichotomy Soap finds is just how jarring it is to wake up from the best sleep he's ever had in the arms of the man he's been obsessed with since they'd first collided. He doesn't slip out while Ghost is still asleep but it's an embarrassingly near thing, largely stopped by the tight grip his Lt has around his middle. He doesn't register drifting back to sleep but the next time he wakes a heavy hand is jerkily stroking through his hair in absentminded movements. It's the best thing he's ever felt. He doesn't want it to end, especially considering the talk that would follow it, awkward at best and soul crushing at worst. Soap doesn't want to lose this, not when he'd just barely got it.
He can't remember what he'd tried to say, something stupid he's certain, but before the first syllable is even out of his mouth Ghost drops the hand from his hair, he doesn't even have time to be disappointed before the same hand is cupping his jaw and the rough pad of a calloused thumb is passing gently over his lips. Soap feels more than hears the quiet, content sigh from behind him. Normally he would rail against being hushed, he's grown goddamn man for gods sakes, but all he can bring forth is an answering sigh as he feels the tension leave his shoulders. Soap doesn't remember falling asleep again but when he wakes up, the bed next to him is empty and he feels a bolt of cold dread before he hears the quiet sounds of a rain shower from the attached bathroom. At his feet on the bed are two sets of clothes. He doesn't feel much like showering, unless it would be with Ghost and that idea appeals to him all too much, so he simply forces himself up. Both of the offerings are Ghost's clothes though one could be considered slightly smaller and Johnny quickly slips them on before he has to explain himself. He sits quietly as Ghost finishes his own routine and no words pass between them as Ghost slips on his own clothes as well as what Soap has dubbed the "around base" balaclava and they leave side by side to get breakfast from the mess to eat in the rec room. And if they stand closer together than would strictly be appropriate, it's no one's business but their own.
Johnny grabs his bag of arugula from the communal fridge as Ghost gets up to follow him, snagging a couple of strawberries from Gaz's side of the fridge to loud protest. There's somewhat if an awkward pause at his door and he can see doubt start to well in Ghost's eyes. Can't fucking have that, Soap decides.
"I wasnae lying when I said it's a mess."
"S'alright" Ghost replies quietly, angling himself to leave.
"But if you want ta come in you can meet mah wee babes?" He offers. "Course got a couple snakes wouldnae want to make you uncomfortable, Wee Man is a big bastard but I promise yeh he's-"
"Ok."
Blue meets brown and there's a momentary heavy silence before Soap nods and reaches to unlock his door.
It's surreal, seeing Ghost in a space he's dedicated himself to keeping Ghost-free. At the same time it feels so right, like a missing piece he'd just realized was gone. Soap stands by the door as his Lt moves forward into the room, partly for a ready escape and partly because neither of them are small men and it would get very cramped very fast.
"What eats that?"
Soap sits there for a long moment blinking dumbly before he realizes Ghost is pointing to the arugula in his hand.
"Oh uh this is for the lizards, blue tongue up there named Yzma and the Beardie next to her, her name's Freya" shortly after receiving Yzma the skink he'd been able to hook up a home for Bart the leopard gecko and even quicker after that ended up with Freya, an 8 year old leatherback bearded dragon. "They also need some bugs, hope you don't mind roaches."
It's an awkward dance to get past Ghost to his closet and it ends with Ghost sitting cross legged on his bed for which Soap isn't complaining. It's easy, slipping into prepping the salads with easy familiarity. Ripping greens into smaller bites for the baby skink and slicing the strawberries as a treat. As he preps the salads he finds himself talking at Ghost as he usually does, unsure if the man is listening but not necessarily needing him to. He talks about his childhood and his Da's reptiles, Martha and Bowser back home, he talks about his first snake bite from a wild grass snake he'd found when he was 10. He talks about his rescues as he rummages around in the dubia roach bin for the right sized bugs, talks about why he does it and a little about each animal as he dusts the bugs with calcium powder. Soap undoes the lock on each cage, dropping them in and smiling as the lizards jump after them, before relocking the tanks and turning back to face Ghost, startling at the intensity in his eyes.
"You really love them don't you." It's more of a statement than a question but Soap answers anyway.
"Aye."
"And he's the one who bit you?" Ghost looks a little unsure nodding towards the corner of the big tank where Wee Man is barely visible curled up amidst the plants.
"Och it's a stupid story, poor lad just has shite depth perception s'all. He's the friendliest fucking snake though I'll tell you what. "
"Friendly?" Soap's heart hurts at the confusion in Ghost's voice.
"I know you haven't really had a...good experience with snakes but I promise most of them are the sweetness things."
Ghost looks deep into his eyes for a while before turning back towards Wee Man. They sit in silence for a long moment before Ghost nods minutely.
"I'll try." He turns back to Johnny. "For you I'll try." Johnny feels a weight in his throat and can only bring himself to nod.
"Thank you."

Sneak lil peak to the next chapter of 'On the Ice'!! Hope I can get it done today for you all! <3
“I swear to Christ, John.” Simon warned, his face close to John’s as intimidating as that may be.
“Dinnae yer mam ever tell ye not to use his name in vain?” John tested, he wondered how far he could go until he was thrown somewhere or punched right in his noggin.
“John.”
“Simon.”
