Headcanon(?)

Futaba is extremely good at reading people and sensing if they have good intentions or not, even if she doesn't know it as it manifests as the usual extreme shyness.

I like to think the reason why she hides behind Joker and is so reluctant when Akechi enters LeBlanc isn't because of her usual personality of not being socially adept, but because she senses that there's something more to him beneath that charming sunny exterior, an ulterior motive or a hidden darkness.

After all, she has experienced bad people hiding behind veneers of being cheerful and outgoing, like her uncle. That's why she can see through Akechi's social mask and know something's just not right about him. She's acting on her gut instinct that Akechi is not being entirely honest.

And that's also why she can be so relaxed and normal around Maruki. He can read the room, is genuinely friendly, and really wants to help people. She knows that he isn't really hiding a darker side beneath his exterior, and that his kindness does shine through (even if he takes that kindness a bit too far later, it's still a genuine desire to help people instead of a selfish ulterior motive).

Basically, Futaba acts like a sniffer dog for detecting good or bad people due to her lack of social tact and because of her past, trusting her gut instinct more and not hiding what she feels because of social norms.

i like viewing the p5 protag as autistic (along with yusuke and futaba), but he specifically has difficulty speaking. he can speak, but he tends to do so in short bursts; thats not the extent of his speaking ability, just the articulated part. the dialogue options chosen ingame are spoken like a neurotypical, but its very short and precise, deliberate, and it takes a lot of his social spoons to do. when with people he's comfortable with (the thieves, chihaya, sojiro, shinya, kaoru, lavenza) his speech changes. its longer sentences than before, but his words are slurred together, he takes out grammatical points to put only the bare minimum, and its very quiet, almost mumbled.

maybe turns into mayb, goodnight becomes nigh, its good to see you becomes 'sgood tsee ye.

even the thieves names change when he says them.

'taba, ryuj, makot, 'usuke, har, ang, mogan, gor, sumre, 'nkich, and 'phia. shaya, s'jiro, shin'aa, kaor, venz.

everyone has a Joker certified slurred name. its a sign of affection! he's comfy with you!

Headcanon that Akechi originally only had one persona but it split apart into two — Robin Hood and Loki... It's symbolic of Akechi being emotionally torn in two very different directions.

This probably would have happened either around the time he first started planning his revenge on Shido, or shortly after he started working for him.

One represents his desire to rebel by being a Hero of Justice, while the other represents his desire to rebel by getting revenge on those who wronged him through Whatever Means Necessary.

Justice vs Vengeance

And, theoretically, if Akechi were ever to reconcile with himself... The two would then fuse back together into one single unified persona — his original, true persona.

After Batman revealed his identity as Bruce Wayne to the Justice League, several members were seen scrolling through their social media feeds and watching videos of Bruce Wayne dancing to popular trends with horrified fascination and disbelief. Not Clark though, he’s busy filming Bruce (nobody knows Bruce’s good camera angles better than him and he’s also smoother than any drone) then sending those videos to Barbara who’s helping to curate Bruce’s social media accounts.

I think a lot about Leo’s tendency to push his way into the spotlight despite clearly being a natural in the shadows. Hell, you could argue that his worst moments are when he’s forcing himself onstage, and his best are when he does things no one notices until it’s already been done.

My take on fem shuake!!!

I like my toxic doomed yaoi but toxic doomed Yuri hits so much harder when it comes to these two

If Shuake were girls they would be so much more volatile than canon it’s hilarious

Honestly if Akechi was born a girl instead of a boy his already terrible life would be twice as hard hahahaha

Fem Akechi would have a much harder time willingly refraining from directly murdering shido

Like canon Akechi is this close to just shooting him in the head anytime he sees him but fem Akechi would have so much more temptation to see him dead dead dead

She’s going to have to withstand his disgustingly sexist statements with a bright smile on her face as shido says things like “oh Akechi, you’re not like those other women that only serve to further this country’s great longevity through rearing the young, you’re different, more capable.” And she needs to let those slimy words go in one ear and out if she’s going to be patient enough for him to be elected first

Not to mention she’s going to experience so much more scrutiny as a public idol since she’ll be a girl

Like in canon he already has a questionable fanbase but just imagine the weirdos that’ll idolise her as the detective princess

And she’s definitely not going to be taken as seriously by people for her detective work because people would JUST WRITE HER OFF AS A PRETTY FACE!!!!

Like canon Akechi’s public mask is already so tightly wound against his face, fem Akechi’s public mask would be a full suit of armour (get it get it? Hahahahhaha)

Meanwhile! If Akira was a girl, the notion of her being a meddler when she tries to stop shido would be much stronger I think

Also I have a feeling she’s going to get harassed at shujin for having her criminal record leaked instead of how in canon everyone left Akira alone due to fear since people won’t take her assault charge as seriously

And then there’s kamoshida…eugh

So in conclusion:

I just think both of them would have so much more pent up rage than in canon hahahahahha

Like I’m sure they would’ve physically thrown hands in the boiler room of shido’s ship, like forget about the personas they’re going to throttle each other as the rest of the thieves watch hahahahahahhaa

On the bright side though I can see fem Akechi being closer to Sae and the detective princess being a role model to little girls

Hm but I have a feeling the rivalry between Akechi and Akira would feel like those early 2010s tabloid articles about how female stars had beef with each other, like it’ll be framed as something super catty hahahahaha

Man these girlies are filled with so much anger, honestly it’ll be so iconic if Akechi and Akira were written as girls but I err don’t have that much trust in Altus!

totally respect your autistic joker slurred speech etc headcanon but i will say given that he is japanese a lot of the ways you've shortened the phantom theives' names specifically wouldn't make a ton of sense and might actually be more difficult to say for a japanese speaker! just something to maybe consider if you ever develop the hc in the future :)

no yeah, i know that, its just like??? his voice just kinda stops sometimes unless he like, prepares what hes gonna say before hand (which are our dialogue options!)??? and hes just given up on saying complete sentences. sometimes, after he’s had Arséne for a while, some names gain a foreign tone, kinda like a mix of actual french accent and “Nakahara Chūya rolling his R’s.”

Hu Tao, Furina, Shenhe, UMP45, ST AR-15, and Makoto's S/O messing with them

Adding in Shenhe because I felt like writing her! (As per usual)

Hu Tao has to take a second to register what S/O had replied with.

"I like you, too"?

Hu Tao halts before her foot is out the door, turning around with a smirk and eyebrow raised.

(Hu Tao) "Oh? We're being like that today are we?"

(S/O) "Like what?"

Hu Tao taps her finger on their nose as she crosses her arms, smiling.

(Hu Tao) "I'm not leaving until you say it properly!"

(S/O) "Psh, no you won't."

(Hu Tao) "Unlike you, I don't need to be physically present at my job today, so I absolutely can!"

S/O had to relent after that. Because she was right, she would prevent S/O from leaving.

And even if they managed to get away, the prank Hu Tao would play as retaliation would probably not be worth it.

Furina pouts when S/O didn't even say "I love you back". The audacity!

Her hands move to her waist, giving a harsh glare to S/O.

Well, as harsh of a glare as Furina can manage. If anything, it makes her look adorable.

(Furina) "You don't even want to say it back to me, your girlfriend?! Oh, you wound my heart!"

S/O chuckled at her dramatic response.

(S/O) "As if you didn't do this very thing to me last week!"

(Furina) "Hmph! Fine, be that way, for I will not declare my love for you if this is the response I should expect!"

She tilts her head away and begins marching away from the door, still pouting.

It was obvious she wasn't genuinely offended, but two could play at this game!

She could actually keep this bit up for weeks, if prompted.

S/O does not, lest they incur her verbal wrath for the next month or so and demanding a ransom of sweets.

Shenhe stoically turns to S/O, noticing their lips were trying their best not to break into a full smile.

(Shenhe) "...S/O, did I do something wrong?"

They shook their heads and covered their laughter with one hand.

(S/O) "Sorry, I couldn't resist teasing, Shenhe. I just wanted to see your reaction."

Shenhe blinks and tilts her head in confusion.

(Shenhe) "What do you mean? All you said was that you liked me."

(S/O) "Oh, that's what you're referring to. I figured you were going to ask me why I said 'I like you' instead I love you."

(Shenhe) "That goes without saying, does it not? For us, it means the same thing."

S/O chuckled and couldn't disagree with that logic.

(S/O) "Got me there."

Shenhe, for her part, was still very confused.

What was the joke?

45 frowns before she turns back to S/O, adjusting the hair out her face.

(UMP45) "Wow, so that's what I get after opening my heart to you?"

Those words were rarely said by 45, even less so when she was about to depart for an operation.

She looked genuinely hurt, which made S/O rush up to try to ease her anger.

(S/O) "S-Sorry! It was just a joke-"

They were interrupted when 45 broke into a smirk and cut them off with a kiss.

(UMP45) "Mhm, and so was that. Now, say it properly this time, would you?"

Both of them chuckled lightly before S/O gave the correct reply.

(S/O) "I love you, too."

(UMP45) "Not so hard, was it?

STAR pouts when she hears S/O's response, making her face them.

STAR had a hard time saying it without blushing madly, and this time was no exception.

So to get that in response?

(ST AR-15) "Hey, that's not funny!"

S/O barely held back their amusement, making STAR's annoyance grow.

STAR flicks their forehead gently, taking care to not put too much of her T-Doll strength into it.

(ST AR-15) "S-Say it, already!"

With a tight hug around her, S/O gives in, but still laughing.

(S/O) "Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist. Love you too, STAR."

(ST AR-15) "Good..."

She squeezes them back before leaving the room.

Makoto hesitates on departing, taking in what S/O had replied with.

(Makoto) "Like me?"

(S/O) "It's what I said!"

Makoto looks a bit disheartened at the response.

(Makoto) "I see..."

Before her mind could wander, it was brought back to S/O when she heard them chuckle.

(S/O) "Sorry, I didn't mean to make you sad! I just wanted to tease you."

Makoto's blush crept up on her cheeks for a brief moment before she cleared her throat.

(Makoto) "Ah, my apologies. I suppose I'm still getting used to this kind of banter in a relationship-"

S/O cut her off by giving her a kiss on the cheek, making her face burn red for a different reason.

(S/O) "Don't apologize. You're cute when you blush."

Makoto stammers over her words before simply sighing and smiling back.

(Makoto) "I'll just take the compliment...Next time, I should play a joke like that on you."

Which would be easy, if she had a sense of humor.
