I think I finally can put into words a dynamic that people absolutely love but rarely make the connection of what it is
Examples:
Ace Attorney - Pheonix & Maya (by extension any Attorney & weird girl)
Doctor who - The Doctor & their companions
Sherlock Holmes - Sherlock & Watson
(to a lesser extent)
Breaking Bad - Walter White & Jessie Pinkman
Rick and Morty - Rick Sanchez & Morty Smith
In these partnerships the two will form an incredibly deep platonic bond. Spending all their time together in and out of work. They become heavily dependant on each other, one or both fall into a depression upon seperation. They lose their shit when the other is in danger. Both will always be willing to sacrifice themselves for the other. Sometimes horribly co-dependant.
The character's roles:
The weird girls/companions/Watsons are always there to follow the Attorneys/Doctor/Sherlock around to keep them company, ask questions and be social lubricant. Often younger then the latter, they're most often an optimist being the ray of sunshine that pulls them from the dark.
The attorney/Doctor/Sherlock is the more knowledgeable one of the partnership, regarding the weird girl/companion/Watsons as a helper. Being their guide into whatever weird world they are more knowledgeable in. There is going to be a point where they have to go on a rescue mission, that is a a given. There is a darkness in their heart that is kept away by their friend though it's hard to admit they need them around.

It reminds me of to how "bonded pairs" work in cats. Sometimes they're siblings, best friends, lovers, teacher/apprentice or parent/child. Thing is that none of those really ever fit it's a whole thing of it's own. It's such a great dynamic in fiction that I don't see alot of in today's media
There truely is no bond like an assistant and their genius.

do you know where "no beta we die like x" comes from and how it is used?
The term "beta" in this context is short for "beta reader" - a person who reads a fic while it's still in the editing stage and helps the writer get it ready to post. Some betas check grammar. Some check canon compliance. Some are sensitivity readers. There are lots of things that betas can do.
So functionally, saying "no beta" means that the writer didn't get this checked by a second person before they posted it. It's a warning that there might be errors or typos etc. It's mostly used when an author has written something quickly and is posting without doing a lot of (or any) edits first.
As for where it comes from? It all started with a bumper sticker.
This image was an internet meme at one point, and it got meme'd on in the form of "no ___ we ___ like men"
Here on tumblr, one of the versions that got really popular was from now-deleted user @grec1a who created this version:
From there, it migrated to AO3 as the "no beta we die like men" tag, and very often the word men is replaced by the name of a character who dies in canon.

lana and edgeworth are funny to think about because they would've been working together the closest when they were both at peak broodiness and unsociability. mutual disinterest in discussing or admitting to emotions. sitting together in silence at work functions, scaring everyone away with their bad vibes. just

edgeworth’s perpetual exhaustion and resting bitch face are a lot more understandable when you get to 1-5 and find out he goes in to work every day where a lunchlady yells at him in the parking lot and another dude insists on pretending to be a cowboy and half the people at work hate him. also he wakes up from his daily night terror every morning and still has to climb twelve flights of stairs just to get his office.
