Sailing across the Narrow Sea — to Pentos — took five days. During these five days, you were confined under the ship's deck between crates of grains. It wasn't the most comfortable — your body was aching from sitting and sleeping on the wooden floor for so long —, but at least it wasn't sheeps. Albeith cute, they are animals and their shit stinks. When you are stuck in a small space, you don't want to be surrounded by sheep piss and shit.
Once in Pentos, you headed south — to Volantis. It was a long and lonesome journey.
When you found yourself in front of the stones, you pulled out the grimoire from your travel pouch and, fingertips away from returning where you belonged, you froze. Memories of your sister flowed in your head, missing her terribly, then faded to another pair of violet eyes. Daemon’s. The night you met him in the city, all those nights spent together, the taste of his lips on yours and the feeling of his touch.
You reached for your necklace, ‘’Sorry, Dany,’’ then retracted your hand.
*
The journey back to King’s Landing was even longer, but once you made it to land, you found yourself facing a wall. Where were you going to go? What were you going to do? You doubted Otto had abandoned his investigation while you were away. Your absence in the city must have been notified to him too. Whoever was working for him would immediately report your presence if seen.
For this reason, you needed to remain on your guard and keep an eye out at all times.
Covering yourself with your hooded cloak, you wandered around the city through the smallfolk, trying to think of your next move. Unfortunately, no answers came to you.
The sun began going down and your stomach was rumbling and clenching. You were tempted to steal some bread off a table to calm your hunger, having not eaten since yesterday morning, but the man who was selling it looked strong enough to break your arm if caught. So you continued your way, looking for something easier to steal.
After taking three left turns, you noticed a figure in a white cloak was following you. A woman. Her face was familiar, but you couldn't recognize where you knew her from. Was she Otto's spy? There was no way to tell, but in case she was, you had to get away. You quickened your pace, panic rising in your chest as you searched for a quick hideaway.
Although you had spent a long while in the city, you didn’t know the navigation very well. You darted between the smallfolk, trying to confuse the woman behind you. You didn’t dare look over your shoulder to see if your plan had worked — you ran.
You ran as fast as your legs carried you and just as you turned a corner, you bumped into someone. You opened your mouth to apologize quickly, but an arm grabbed you, stopping you from getting away. At this moment, your heart stopped in your chest — you thought you had been caught. That whoever had grabbed your arm would take you to Otto Hightower and that it would be your end, but the voice that spoke was not one of danger.
On the contrary, it brought you immediate security.
‘’What are you doing here? I haven’t seen you in a whole moon.’’
Daemon's eyes appeared surprised to see you, and you couldn't blame him. You had slipped out of his bedchamber while he was asleep and given no signs of life since. To his eyes, you had gone for good.
You opened your mouth to speak, but instead clutched Daemon’s jacket, needing to feel him in some way. ‘’I believe I am being followed,’’ you uttered out.
The corner of Daemon's lips curled. ‘’Another brewer upset you didn't buy his whiskey?’’ He assumed, but when you didn't laugh, his brows furrowed. He took a glance behind you, then took your hand and pulled you with him. ‘’Come.’’
He didn’t need to know who was following you or make sure you were being followed to start weaving between the crowds and leading somewhere he deemed safe. You had difficulty following his pace, not knowing the city quite as well.
You halting abruptly when he took you to the brothel he spent most of his nights at. The same brothel you had shared a goblet of wine that one night.
You stopped at the doors, shaking your head. ‘’Not here.’’ A plump brunette woman came out of the brothel. Her eyes landed on you and Daemon, the both of you standing out in a crowd of commoners. She tried to lure you in with her inviting eyes, but you tore yours away from her. ‘’Somewhere safe,’’ you added with pleading eyes. ‘’I…I believe I am in great danger.’’
A veil of concern washed on Daemon’s face, his protectiveness rising. ‘’How?’’
Sparing him the time traveling part — for now —, you gave him the short answer. ‘’Otto Hightower is after me. He has eyes looking for me in the city. If he finds me, it will be the end of House Targaryen.’’
*
You reached the island of Dragonstone in under an hour.
It wasn't very far from King's Landing, but Daemon promised Otto didn't have any eyes nor power here. The castle and land belonged to Princess Rhaenyra, but it was currently inhabited — other than by the few wild dragons.
You clung to Daemon during the first minutes, your stomach queasy and terrified you would fall and die. The mountains seemed so small from up high. Sensing how tense and terrified you were behind, one of his hands had let go of the saddle and came over yours on his stomach, caressing the back of your palm with his thumb in a silent reassuring touch.
It seemed to work because your fingers soon relaxed and you began getting used to the new sensations. The strong wind in your hair and hitting your face, the rumbling of Caraxes's breathing underneath you, the landscape from up high.
Perhaps you could get used to flying.
Dragonstone was an important land in House Targaryen history. You had studied its history back in Braavos and seen drawings of the island in books, but it turned out to be even more beautiful than you had imagined.
The castle towers were shaped by Valyrian magic to look like dragons to make the castle look fearsome and dragon architecture could be found throughout the castle; small dragons framing gates and dragon claws holding torches, a pair of great wings cover the armory and smithy, and dragon tails form archways and staircases.
After landing, Daemon helped you dismount and brought you to the Sea Dragon tower, which was shaped like a dragon gazing serenely out across the sea. Its hall was wide and entirely made of stone.
You had been born in this very castle.
Your mother, Queen Rhaella, had died in this very castle.
Daemon’s eyes followed you as you admired the ancestral castle. ‘’Welcome to Dragonstone,’’ he said, walking through the hall as if he owned it. ‘’Everything has a layer of dust, but it’s the safest place I know.’’
‘’It’s beautiful.’’ A large dragon was perfectly sculpted into one of the stone walls. Its details were impressive — the scales and spikes each crafted meticulously, the burning stare in his eyes, the claws.
‘’Indeed.’’ Daemon’s boots clicked on the floor, getting closer to you. ‘’Though I do wish we would have crossed paths under happier pretenses, I am just relieved to have found you again.’’ He hovered over your shoulder and kissed it.
Your eyes flutter closed at the delicate touch of his lips, but you forced yourself to move away from him. ‘’I’ve done an horrible thing.’’
‘’Whatever you've done, I probably have done worse—’’
The words spilled out of your mouth before you could stop them. ‘’I've killed a child.’’
Your cruel doings made you sick to your stomach, but you had no other choice. You had to save Daenerys. You had to save House Targaryen. Their fate were in your hands.
Leaving your dark confession pending, you walked over to the window. You could see the volcano — the Dragonmont. It was still in activity, but hadn’t erupted in years. Caraxes was above the mouth, flying freely.
Daemon was silent which was nothing good. You remember his reaction to the miscarriage and how you had held him as he processed the news. Now that he knew who was behind the miscarriage, what would happen to you? Would he tell his brother? Viserys would have you behead without a doubt.
Using what could be your last words, you began explaining your motive. ‘’The king was right about the child being a boy. His name was Aegon II and he was going to be the downfall of House Targaryen.’’
The sound of Daemon's laugh echoed. ‘’A child will be the downfall of House Targaryen?’’
‘’Yes,’’ you said strongly, winds blowing through the window and catching in your silver hair. ‘’I know this because I have read it in books.’’
You shifted on your feet, a knot twisting in your stomach. The truth was about to be unraveled and you were terrified. What if Daemon doesn't believe you? All that travel back to King's Landing will have been for nothing.
‘’I've got something to tell you. Something else.‘’ You drew a breath and jumped. ‘’My name is Y/N Targaryen, and I come from the future. I...I was born here, on Dragonstone — 150 years to this day.’’ You turned and looked up to search for a reaction from Daemon, but his face was blank. ‘’My words might sound mad, but I am speaking the truth, Daemon—’’
‘’The truth?‘’ Daemon said, his violet eyes rising to look at you. ‘’You told me you were born in Braavos, yet you are saying you were born here.’’
‘’I grew up in Braavos,’’ you corrected. ‘’My brother and sister and I were brought there after our parents’ death. I have not entirely lied.’’
Daemon's brow furrowed. ‘’Why should I believe you?’’ He didn't give you time to say anything,  suddenly looking furious, any ounces of tenderness wholly erased from his features. ’’I trusted you, I took you to the Keep and you used me to stab my family in the back. You killed my brother's unborn child!’’
‘’I had to!’’ Tears welled in your eyes. ‘’I had to,‘’ you repeated. Your words were spoken so gently the prince barely heard. ‘’170 years from now, the Targaryen lineage will be almost extinct. My sister Daenerys and I are the last Targaryens, but according to this dream that I had, I would’ve been the last Targaryen standing if I didn’t stop Aegon II from seeing the light of day.’’ You hesitated and closed your mouth before opening it once more. ‘’If I had let Aegon II live, the dragons would have danced. The dragons must not dance, or it would be the death of them all.’’
Daemon frowned at your riddle. ‘’What?’’
‘’Come the day King Viserys dies, his firstborn son, Aegon II, will be crowned king instead of Rhaenyra and a civil war — a war of succession — will begin between the wrongly crowned king and the rightful heir and queen, Rhaenyra. They call it the Dance of the dragons. A lot of people will die in this war. You die in this war—’’
A hand came around your throat, its hold strong enough to lower your intake of air, and forced you to look up. Daemon's violet eyes were filled with rage and underlying fear, the likely motive to his sudden violence, while yours were begging him to let go of you.

Tumblr media
YOU WAKE UP in a cold sweat, your heart pounding against your rib cage and with a voice in the back of your mind. You’re trembling as you can’t make any sense of what the voice is saying, and soon the sound of your blood rushing in your ears overtakes the incoherent voice.
You rub your eyes to ground yourself before you glance around, noting you’re still in the warehouse. You look at your watch, groaning quietly as you realize it’s quite early in the morning. Your chest feels quite heavy, and you have an odd craving for a cigarette when you don’t remember ever picking the habit up.
It’s one of those nights; you can tell you aren’t going to be able to go back to sleep anytime soon. Adler and the others wanted you to stay in the warehouse just in case you were able to decrypt any more information; you had no problem with that, as mostly everyone else also slept in the warehouse, although in different areas. Unfortunately though, your makeshift sleeping cot is not too comfortable, so you have an ache in your neck along with stirring anxiety from your nightmare.
You push the cheap blanket off of yourself and you adjust your sleeves before swinging your legs over the side of the cot. You slip your boots on and lace them up, letting out a heavy sigh as you do so. A nervous energy remains under your skin, like you’re being watched. You know you aren’t—or do you?— but you shudder nonetheless. You grab your leather jacket, sliding it on before you exit the room you’ve been sleeping in for the past couple of days. The common area is clear except for Helen by the radios with her headphones, trying to make out Russian messages.
You rub your sternum before exiting the warehouse right in front of the garage door, the cool nighttime air filling your lungs. Goosebumps rise underneath your jacket for a moment from the fresh sensation, and you’re so caught up in your own mind you don’t even notice the man standing a few feet away. “What’re you doin’ up?” You jolt at the sound of someone’s voice and you look over, locking eyes with Adler. Lacking his usual sunglasses, his eyebrows are more visible and furrowed. A half smoked cigarette is between his fingers like usual, and he takes a drag from it.
You let out a breath and you shrug, stuffing your hands into the back pockets of your jeans, shifting your weight as you glance away. “Couldn’t sleep.” You utter. You technically aren’t lying, though you didn’t even attempt to go back to sleep. Adler doesn’t respond as he tucks a hand under his other arm as he takes another drag off of his cigarette, shifting slightly closer to you. Your eyes train on some bugs flying around under the big light overhead for a moment, the silence being filled with crickets.
“Couldn’t sleep, huh?” Adler hums, his eyes never leaving your form. He notes the way you’re reluctant to share anything, your conflicted and far away gaze; he’s already thinking you’ve had a nightmare. “What was it about?”
Your gaze moves from the bugs to him—his stare feels like he sees all of you, your bare soul; your skin and bones and every sin you’ve ever committed. Adler’s gaze has always felt like that and you’ve never known what to make of it. He’s so.. vague yet so on the dot every time he talks to you, so friendly yet so cruel. You aren’t sure if you should say anything. “Bell.” You feel a nudge against your arm and you blink for a moment before looking back at Adler, your hearing returning—you aren’t sure when it left.
“I just.. I had a nightmare.” You admit with a weak laugh, looking away nervously as your hands fidget in the back pockets of your jeans. Your weight shifts as silence fills the air between you two and you kind of want to reach over to strangle him a bit—you know he’s waiting for you to elaborate. “I couldn’t make any sense of it, honestly. It was a weird horrid mixture of Vietnam and.. this room. Televisions.. hm. I don’t know.” You mumble, trailing off before you look back at him. “Can I stay with you tonight?”
There’s an unreadable look in Adler’s eyes as he drops his cigarette, stepping on it and squashing it to put it out. It takes him a moment before he nods. “Sure, Bell. You can stay with me. We can go over some files, yeah? Take your mind off of it, since we have a job to do.”
A weird sense of calm washes over you from his words and you nod, letting out a relieved breath. “Yeah, we can do that.”

Bound by Law (Matt Murdock x Reader)
Words: 5525 (chapter 31)
Summary:
You and Matt met in the courtroom. Now, you may think that Matt was a knight in shining armour and defended you in the name of all United States laws, but that was not the case. Matt was totally destroying your client, and you wanted to tear him into pieces right then and right there, because with Murdock as your rival, your head is on the firm's plate with each case. Did Matt care? No, he only cared about bringing justice, he was a human-machine, driven by the need to bring righteousness no matter the cost. Or was he just that? What happens when you get involved in Fisk's business and Daredevil's lies against your will?
UPDATES: kind of back in my way, so... next week?
Tumblr media
31. Grasping the Straws
8:28 in the morning, Matt was already standing outside his apartment building, his phone and wallet resting in the pocket of his jacket, his glasses in the pocket of his coat, and a heavy feeling in his chest; he was crouched on his walking stick and waited for you to come, yet his mind was somewhere else entirely. He was burning inside and wanted to find Fisk's accountant as soon as possible and question the hell out of him, but he still had to locate him, and do it tonight, as the devil. Lost in his thoughts, Matt snapped out of the trance when you slammed your car doors.
"Well, if this isn't Matt Murdock in the flesh." You come around and stand almost in front of Matt, but then decide to lean on the front of your car, crossing your legs.
"After last night's message, I wouldn't dare being somewhere else." Matt tries to joke, but you remain standing with a stone-cold face. "I'm sorry that I didn't answer the phone." He says, sensing your coldness.
"Where were you?" You ask him straight, without boring both of you with pointless questions that may or may not lead to this question.
"I..." Matt begins, trying to think of a believable lie, although now he admits that answering your call might have been a mistake.
"Don't lie. Please." You sigh, still feeling worn out after yesterday's events.
"I was at the gym." Matt steps closer to the car and rests his arms on the roof.
"You left earlier just to go to the gym? What kind of gym works this late and especially when half of the city is burning?" You scoff slightly.
"The owner lets me in after the work hours."
"And the phone? We called you like a hundred times. Each."
"I left it at home. Sorry."
"Matt, we've been worried about you." You turn to look at him, noticing that he hasn't shaved in 4 days at least, which made him look more worn out than he probably was. "I drove Elena Cardenas to the hospital."
"What?" He finally turns to your direction, eyebrows knitted. "What happened?"
"The explosions... They hit her apartment. And the one next to her... They said that everyone died there." You take a moment to calm yourself again, "I drove her and Foggy...And Karen to the hospital. She's feeling better today, I think they will send her home soon." You drove here from the hospital, where you took your car and ran by reception to ask about Mrs Cardenas's well-being.
"Foggy?"
"He was hurt a bit but he's alright. They were at Elena's apartment when the explosions happened." You light up a cigarette and blow the first cloud of smoke. "Matt, why didn't you answer me yesterday? I was knocking at your door for at least half an hour."
"I wasn't home yet."
"But then I called you and you answered?"
"I returned."
"Matt, I was outside on this street when I called you." You say in disbelief.
Matt feels his cheeks getting hot when you catch him in his lies, yet he quickly has to think of another. "Maybe we passed each other. And actually I was in the bathroom downstairs. You probably called me when I returned to my flat."
"I don't believe you, you know. I just... Want to find the person that Tully is covering for." You stand up and get in your seat, cigarette rolling between your cherry-colored lips. "Are you coming?"
"Yeah, yeah." Matt gets in the car and silently puts a seatbelt on. "You're gonna smoke in the car?"
"Is that a problem?"
"No." Matt thinks for a moment. "Give it to me."
You hand him the cigarette and turn on the ignition, curiously watching Matt inhale the smoke and rest his head against the window. No visible scratches or wounds, maybe he wasn't lying about being in the gym... "I'm visiting Tully before lunch. Do you want to go with me?" You didn't need Matt to go with you, but somehow felt that he would want to find the person who is responsible for all these deaths and explosions as well.
He exhales slowly, feeling the nicotine cloud his mind and give his body a brief feeling of relief. "You think that he will tell anything?" Matt turns to the driver's side and inhales your perfume...Mixed with Wesley's. Jealously shoots up and he takes another puff.
"Probably not. He wasn't very talkative with cops, so he probably won't say much to me either, yet the explosions... Someone will have to confront him about that. And he will have to answer." You start driving slowly, looking around the same street that you were freezing your ass in yesterday.
"We could get him into the corner, but you know what they say about cornered animals..." Matt finally gives you the remaining half of the cigarette and you find yourself looking at the smoke between your fingers.
"They get the most aggressive." You finish his thought, mentally sighing. This could blow up in your face, especially if you won't find any proof. "Where's that gym of yours?" You suddenly ask, trying to keep the conversation going on a lighter note. You went to bed fuming with anger and worry, but sleep did its job - you were half as angry at Matt than you were yesterday.
"Uh, couple of blocks away from me."
"So...what do you usually do there?"
Matt breaks into a smile. "I exercise."
"Really? For what?" You ask, turning to look at his stupid grin a couple of times.
"Just... Overall." He shrugs, soft material of his coat rubs against the leather seat. "Keeping myself in shape, and healthy."
Now his huge arms made perfect sense. "Let me guess. You do boxing mostly?"
"Yeah, this included. How'd you know?"
"Lucky guess." You chuckle, finally pulling in front of the office and turn off the ignition. The car fills with silence and you finish what was left of the cigarette. Matt says nothing, only gets out of the car when you do it, feeling the warm but tight grip of yours on his elbow and takes a moment to slyly slide his fingers on yours when he pulls his glasses out of his pocket. One of the perks of being blind with heightened senses was that he heard you smile after you felt his touch.
As much as you both secretly wanted to keep walking together like this for the rest of your lives, you finally reached the office door and luckily, it was still empty. "I guess we're a little early." You say, unlocking doors and waiting for Matt to walk, but he waits for you to go in first. "Really?"
"Just go in." He smiles, and steals a chance to put his hand on your back.
"Shit," you look at Karen's desk and remember how yesterday you messed up all the papers, including the ones on your desk. "I'll have to tidy up before Karen comes in."
"What is it?"
"Oh, nothing, just... Made a little mess yesterday."
"I'm sure it's nothing." Matt hangs his coat and makes his way towards the shared office.
"Wait." You stop him in his tracks, confused, "Just let me in, I'll sort my documents."
"Y/n, it's okay." He boldly steps inside, followed by your loud steps, "I can't see it anyway."
"I want to -" you don't finish your sentence when chatter fills the place upon Foggy and Karen's arrival.
"Good morning to whoever made this mess!" Foggy shouts, shuffling for a moment so loud that you don't hear Karen's muttering.
"Look who I finally found." You say when Foggy peeks inside the office, and then watch the men hug.
"Matty, I'm glad you're okay." Foggy lets Matt out of his steel grip, but then looks at him as if he was placed on a display, "are you okay?"
"I'm good, thanks. How are you? I heard you took a blow." Matt asks with concern, genuinely worried about his friend, but he also hears you pulling away into the farthest corner of the office when Karen steps inside and goes right away to hug him. A little too much for your liking. And a little too much for his liking as well...
"You know me, I can take a blow and walk it off." Foggy brags, but you notice him grimacing when he turns his body to the side.
"Matt, me and Foggy, we've been calling you all evening, where the hell where you?" Karen starts questioning Matt, still keeping her hand on his shoulder.
"I left my phone at home and went to the gym near my place, really, there's nothing you should worry about."
"Don't ever do that again, you scared the crap out of us. I don't even remember seeing y/n so stressed. Like ever." Foggy curiously watches your neck turn pinkish color, only because you had put on makeup on today, the blush wasn't visible on your face.
"Oh, really?" Matt smirks now, almost teasingly and you roll your eyes.
"We really need to get going somewhere, just let me tidy up the place." You emerge from the corner you were hiding in and walk past the group into the lobby. "Oh, and Karen, next time don't forget to write the addresses of our clients, in case we need to... Pay them a visit." You shout and quickly start sorting the papers. Foggy keeps his observation to himself, while Matt tries to stop himself from smirking in front of these two chatterboxes before they start suspecting anything.
***  "Good morning, Mr Tully." You fake smile at the middle aged chubby man with huge bags under his eyes when he slightly opens the door of his office.
"Do I know you?" He squints and looks at you, then at the neckline of your white shirt and only then at Matt.
"Oh, sorry, no, me and my..." You look at Matt and smile brightly again, "boyfriend, we would like to rent a place from you in Hell's Kitchen." Matt slightly squeezes your forearm in agreement and nods a couple of times.
"I'm not renting now, sorry folks." Tully goes in for closing the doors but you gently stop them with your hand.
"Oh, please, we just returned from our little trip and we saved some money. Of course, not enough to buy a place, but rent it for perhaps a good year." You continue to lie through your teeth, hoping to fool the idiot in front of you.
For a second you notice how his eyes glinted with greed, and now more relaxed, he leans with one hand on the threshold. "Where you folks were traveling?"
"Oh, just worked in Washington for a couple of months, for some important people," you whisper the last part as if it was a secret and then continue in a normal voice, "but now we are here and we're looking forward to starting a new life in this beautiful city."
Tully almost scoffs upon the last words but then widely opens the doors of his office. "Come in, I believe that I can offer you some good things. Come on, sit down, feel free to go pour some coffee, Miss...?"
"Grace." You answer and sit down on one of the chairs in front of Tully's dark oak table. Matt takes a seat and offers Tully a hand to shake.
"White." Matt also lies about his last name and gets comfortable.
"Ah, young couple looking for their nest. I wish I could go back to the times when me and my Mrs bought a place with our own money." Tully starts daydreaming and you clear your throat.
"Mr Tully, we wanna know what are your cheapest options? We're thinking about a wedding and possibly a baby soon.." You interlock your fingers with Matt's theatrically and he smiles as bright as you, "so we don't want to spend too much money on rent now."
"I understand, of course." He shuffles through a pile of papers, glancing at you from time to time, and then finally acknowledging Matt. "What are the glasses for, lad?"
"Oh, just, style. She told me they looked good on me." Matt turns to look at you and smiles.
"Woman clearly has a good taste if you came here. Okay, folks, right now I have some renovation things going on, so new apartments will probably be ready in couple of years, but don't worry, I have just a perfect place for you, lovebirds." He pushes the pictures of the flat and you notice the address written underneath it - one near Mrs Cardenas's apartment. "All the shops are close, place is... Quiet, of course, now the view might not be the best, but trust the process." He leans back in his chair and it creaks painfully.
"That is such a good place, what do you think, Matt?" You ask, already sure that the man in front of you is not aware of anything around him. "This is right next to Elena Cardenas's apartment, yeah. We could visit her when she returns from the hospital. But wait..." You look at Matt, almost shocked, "her place is wrecked, how can she return, right Mr Tully?" You look at Tully, visibly stressing and staring at the two of you.
"Sorry, I seem to not understand you." He squeezes out, with great struggle.
You blink slowly, taking your time. "Mr Tully, who will build new apartments in that record time?"
"What?"
"Who told you to kick those poor old people out? Have you even visited any of them?"
"Mr Tully, how can you so easily rent out places when we both know that they're left in ruins?" Matt adds, intimidatingly leaning forward.
"Who are you?"
"We're Mrs Cardenas's lawyers." Matt says with a serious expression, already missing the feeling of your fingers resting between his. "Did you visit her? Did you apologize? Did you beg her not to file a lawsuit against you and whoever's ass you're kissing right now?"
"Matt, that's a little harsh. He's just a victim here. Who will get a nice sum from the dead people of Hell's Kitchen. How much are they paying for your services of the grim reaper?" You continue, slowly stroking your chin in thought.
Tully finally starts understanding what was really happening and his eyes become wider with every second. "You're her lawyers?"
"Nelson and Murdock, Mr Tully." You extend your hand on purpose, watching his reaction, when he says nothing, you continue, "y/n y/l/n, associate in Mrs Cardenas's case against you."
He looks at you with visible disgust but doesn't touch your hand. "A case already? First, I can't get rid of those goddamn cops lurking around and questioning me on every chance they get and now you vampires?" He scoffs to himself now, "you're those lawyers that poor Cardenas ran to, right? What did you prove here?" He motions to the documents of the flat lying in front of you.
"That you're a liar. We can sue you for providing false information of the real estate that you control to your clients. I mean, one day after those explosions, which I would call, intentional, and you're already renting out places like it's a Monopoly game?"
"Intentional? You're accusing me now, Miss whatever even your name was?" He stands up abruptly and slams his hands on the table, and you slightly jump in your seat. Matt gets alarmed immediately but keeps calm just as he promised.
"It's y/l/n, and you better remember it because you're gonna hear it a lot in the courtroom." You rise from your seat too, not afraid to look him in the eyes.
"You have no proof, I do everything by rules, you can't do anything about our business!"
"Oh, Mr Tully, our proof is a living person, fallen under your greedy fist."
"You know nothing, you bloodsuckers." He turns to look at you, sweat already running down his forehead, "you think you can come here to my office and fool me? You think you know how business is done? You shouldn't even be here. Women belong in kitchens, not the fucking courtrooms where they continue talking the same shit that they talk at home!" Tully shouts so loud that a vein on his neck pops out visibly.
Anger rises in your veins and you feel your lips twitching between a menacing grin and an angered grimace. Matt stands up as well, ready to defend you at any moment, but keeping his promise. "If men like you and whoever you..r owner is ruled the world, it would already be destroyed. Get ready to pay for Mrs Cardenas and all the others who are in hospital. See you in court, Mr Tully." You stand up and calmly walk out of the office, holding Matt's elbow in a steel grip. Just as you close the doors, you hear crashing. "He smashed that white vase from his table." You state to Matt, who stops you at the end of the staircase.
"That was so crazy. Stupid."
"But it worked." You smile triumphantly, "'our business'? He's clearly just a puppet."
"Yeah, but was that," Matt slighly shakes his hands in the air, "really necesary?"
"If I came here as a lawyer, I wouldn't have made it past the front door." You chuckle, but there still lies uneasiness on your heart.
"See you in court? Elena hasn't made up her mind about the lawsuit."
"Well, I just love saying that, okay? Let me enjoy the moment before I get kicked back into the kitchen." You turn that to a joke, yet Matt knows that there's something lying underneath it.
"Hey, that was so unnecessay. I would've loved kicking his ass." Matt still argues, not letting your elbow out of his grip for one second, before you cross the street and get in your car again.
"I can already do this by myself, but thanks for the heads up, Murdock." You close the doors and grab the lighter from the dashboard.
"What do you mean by 'already'?" Matt gets comfortable in the seat and turns his whole body towards you.
"I mean that as a woman, you can either be controlled by men your whole life and be dependent from them and their mercy or you can finally stand up for yourself and get out of that stereotypical kitchen that they want to keep us in and kick their asses." You light up the cigarette and exhale loudly, resting your head on the headrest, facing Matt. "I doubt that you'd understand exactly what I mean but.. Yeah."
"Has this happened before?" Matt asks, sour expression on his face.
"More than you could imagine. Of course this became a rare occasion when I got my law degree, but..." You fall silent, not ready to talk about your life before college.
"But what?"
"Nothing. Just forget about it."
"y/n..."
"No, really. We have to focus on Elena now. You ready to visit her? My Spanish knowledge is very limited."
Matt nods and turns away from you, while you drive to the hospital, saving half of your cigarette for later.
***
"What did she tell you when I was out to get coffee?" You ask Matt while you two stand in front of the elevator, waiting with two other doctors for it to arrive.
He smiles before answering, "oh, I don't really remember."
"Don't think I'm an idiot, you were smirking exactly like this before."
"Okay, okay, she said that you're a very beautiful young woman." He falls silent for a moment, then continues, "and that I'm a very handsome man and..."
"And what?" You get into the elevator and stand with Matt in the farthest corner, now whispering.
"And that we look like we suit each other." He finishes, face almost red because he knows that all the doctors inside the elevator heard it. He didn't plan on telling you any of this, but knew that eventually you'd ask Elena yourself which would make this even more awkward.
"Oh." You manage to say and get embarassed as well.
Ride back to the office is silent and you turn on the radio, which plays the last decade hits and try not to think too much of Mrs Cardenas's words. You find Foggy and Karen sitting in the lobby, sipping on coffee and you notice the newspaper's headline - "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen".
"Hey, where'd you get that?" You ask, hanging your coat and taking your briefcase towards Karen's desk.
"This? Karen found one somewhere."
"I stopped by the stands on our way back but they were all sold out. Anything good?"
Foggy briefly shows you the first pate with a blurry photo of the devil of Hell's Kitchen and chuckles, "Devil, my shapely Irish ass. Guy's a coward. What I wouldn't give for the chance to rip that corny mask off and..."
"And what?" Karen puts her cup down and steals a glance at Matt still stuck by the hanger.
"Punch him in the face with my fisticuffs." Foggy imitates a boxer and almost drops the newspaper on the ground.
"I don't know, he seems, uh pretty fisticuffy." Karen sighs and you slightly squint at her.
"Please tell me I don't detect a hint of admiration for that terrorist."
"This is just all speculation. Nobody knows if he's a terrorist or what." Karen tries to fight Foggy's words but the pink cheeks give her away easily.
"You're absolutely right. Terrorists have causes. They claim responsibility. Al-Qaeda wanted the world to know exactly what kind of assholes they were. This guy? Not a peep. All terror without the "-ist. " You know what they call that? Nut job."
You chuckle a bit and slump in the chair, curiously watching Matt get behind Karen near the window.
"Hmm, maybe." Karen hums and Foggy groans loudly, then winces, "How's your side?"
"Downgraded to agony." Foggy drops the paper on the table and closes his eyes for a second.
"All right, what do you think, Matt? Y/n?" Karen looks for help but the look on your face tells her more than enough.
"I think Foggy'll be pitching for the Mets by mid-season." Matt jokes, trying to lift up the spirits in the office.
"I'm being serious." Karen turns to face him, blonde hair falling on her shoulders and you don't see the expression on her face.
Matt chuckles, setting his tie loose. "So am I. Have you seen their bullpen?"
"Come on, you telling me this dickhead blowing up our backyard doesn't piss you off?" Foggy returns to the debate, already feeling better than he was before.
"What happened to Hell's Kitchen, to you and to Elena, and to all the people that were hurt yeah, it pisses me off. But this man, whoever he is, whatever his motive, he shouldn't be tried and convicted in the press. We're lawyers, we know that's not how it's supposed to work." Matt says and you look at him almost stunned.
"I'm sorry," you finally get into the talk, crossing your legs on the chair, "this guy breaks into a law firm and then gets into a fight with Benowitz, only for me to almost get killed and you're saying that press is wrong for portraying him as a vigilante that he is?"
Matt bites his tongue. "Well, was he there to kill you?"
"I don't know, didn't really have time to ask a guy in a mask what he was doing in a law firm after work hours." You scoff loudly, shooting lightnings with your eyes at Matt.
Karen waits for Matt to say something back but as he continues to be silent, she asks her questions, "So, uh, hypothetically, if this guy got caught needed counsel, Nelson and Murdock would offer to defend him?"
"Hell no." Foggy is the first one to express his opinion.
"I'd rather see him rot in a jail cell." You say at the same time as Matt says, "It would be his right."
Foggy continues to side with you, "What about my right to punch him in the melon? They pulled a piece of glass out of my side. Elena needed 12 stitches and she's still recovering in the hospital. And you want to Perry Mason the guy responsible?"
Matt puts his hands on his sides, "I wanna make sure the right person pays for what happened."
"The whole thing's moot. After shooting those cops, police are probably looking to settle things the old-fashioned way if they catch up to him." Foggy states.
"Yeah, it's more than likely." Matt sighs under his breath and you close your eyes as they begin to sting from the dryness.
"Just a thought, but we may wanna go a bit peppier at the end of the day." Karen chuckles, "Leave on a note slightly higher than deeply depressing."
"She's right. You're bringing us down, Murdock." You bite, watching Matt's expression change to a happier one.
"Me?" He laughs lightly, eyebrows raised above the glasses.
Foggy returns with a baseball bat and starts swinging at the imaginary ball. "High note! Softball!"
"I'm not even gonna ask why you have this in your office." You chuckle lowly.
"When are we getting a company team together?"
"We have four employees." Karen states the obvious and you all break into smiles.
"At least three of them aren't blind." Matt laughs, "If Miss y/l/n wouldn't mind, we could go 2v2."
"Oh, you mean, I would be carrying the whole team on my shoulders?" You roll your eyes playfully and Foggy nudges Karen.
"Karen, come on. Batting practice, you and me, Chelsea Piers. What do you say? We can beat them."
"Um, I..." Karen stumbles with words, something totally different on her mind.
"Or not. Totally cool." Foggy assures her and swings the bat one more time.
"No, no, I would, I would. It's just that I, um I have this, uh, thing." Karen smiles awkwardly, looking between you and Foggy.
"Go, do that thing. Not a problem." Foggy urges her and you put your head on your arm for extra support and secretly watch Matt with half closed eyes.
"Okay, so, um see you tomorrow." Karen quickly grabs her purse and hurries out, coat in her hands.
"We'll be here, ready to high note and stuff." Foggy shouts after her, but no one responds.
"Smooth." Matt comments on Foggy's swing and imitating sound of a flying ball.
"Admittedly, I'm a work in progress. Did you know she has mace on her keychain?" Foggy comments, then turns to look at you, "Do you have one?"
"No, I have my fisticuffs ready at all times." You pull your hands into fists and imitate punching someone in the stomach. Matt breaks into a laughter and Foggy looks quite disappointed about the teamup against him.
"Is that a bad thing? Should we buy one for y/n too?"
"You ever worry about her? Worry, like, something she's not telling us?" Foggy starts throwing the ball at a wall in front of you, catching it mid-air.
"Everyone has secrets, Foggy." Matt clears his throat and takes a seat that was previously occupied by Karen. "Y/n?"
"What?" You open your eyes and then remember Matt's question, "No, I don't need a mace. Worst case scenario, I can pull out a lug wrench from my car." You answer almost sleepily.
"Right, I forgot that you father was a cop, you'd get out of any situation easily." Foggy says, then turns to Matt, "I don't have secrets. I'd like some. Your kind like with Hottie McBurner-Phone. I mean, I assume she's hot. Is she hot?"
"Oh... How would I know?" Matt groans, and you feel more awake than you were this whole day. A burner phone? What is he hiding?
"This again. You always know. I mean, you guys getting serious? Should I dust off the tux I'll need to rent?"
Matt laughs, feeling your eyes burn holes in his head,  "No, uh it didn't work out."
"Oh. I'm... I'm sorry, man." Foggy catches the ball one last time and turns back to look at Matt.
"Yeah, me too." Matt mutters with zero regret in his voice, "Hey, look, I'm gonna order in tonight, get a jump on this tenement case."
"You want me to stay?" Foggy asks, disappearing in his office again.
"No, I'll be all right. Thanks, buddy." Matt says loudly.
"It's okay. I can stay a bit longer." You suggest.
"Okay. See you in the morning, guys. Hey, Matt... her loss, man. Seriously." Foggy also grabs his coat and closes the door.
Matt sighs loudly, still feeling your eyes on him. "You should go home too."
"Who's gonna drive you home then?" You ask, watching how Matt goes around the table and stops in front of the shared office, right next to where you were sitting.
"I'll call a cab. Just wanted to look over something in Elena's case."
"She's still deciding about the lawsuit, Matt, there's nothing we can look into right now." You look at him standing tall on your left, and he gently puts a hand on your shoulder, squeezing it affectionately. The warmth from his heavy hand makes you shiver and you silently inhale deeply.
"I just want to be prepared in case she will file the lawsuit. Seriously, go home." Matt smiles, feeling the goosebumps under the material of your blouse.
"Just don't stay up too late, we need fresh minds for tomorrow." You stand up and Matt's hand falls from your shoulder, accidentally brushing on your bra. You say nothing, but this little incident will surely stay on your mind this whole evening.
"Goodnight, y/n." Matt says as you go past him to put on your coat.
"Yeah, night, Matt." You say and clear your throat along the way, before disappearing into the dark corridor of the building.
Matt smiles to himself and goes to sit in his chair, taking a sheet printed with Braille, skillfully brushing his fingers on it - Owlsley, Leland: Financial Advisor at the prestigious firm of Silver & Brent.
***
You spend the evening with Wesley, watching the crappy game shows on TV on your sofa. Both of you were focused on the screen, these kind of shows knew how to keep your eyes fixated on them. James has been slowly but rhythmically rubbing your shoulders, yet his touch couldn't compare to Matt's. Just as you started to drift away into the slumber, Wesley's phone rang beside him.
"Yes?" He says in a hushed tone, glancing at you, still asleep, or so he thought. "What? When?" You wish you could her what was being say on the other side of the phone, but the next words make your heart drop. "The mask? Fucking idiot." Wesley ends the call abruptly but doesn't leave - just bents down to place a kiss on your temple and continues to rub your bare shoulders.
***
Leland Owsley gets inside his expensive car, arguing with someone on the phone. "The funds have been reallocated as requested. All the arrangements made per your agreement with the guy we're not supposed to blah blah blah. Business may continue?"
Matt lurks in the shadows and between the pillars of the parking lot, getting closer and closer to Owsley's car.
"The numbers are like tea leaves. Nobody reads them like I can. You're laying out major reserves to clear the docks to make sure the police don't come within 10 blocks." Owsley listens to the man on the phone, then clears his throat, "Yeah. What happened to the Russians We need to be careful, all of us. I look out for you, you look out for me. All I'm saying. Each man must stand for himself or fall with the unworthy." He argues more then puts down his phone. "Prick."
Suddenly, car door rips open with strength and Owsley almost lets out a shriek, seeing the man in the mask, "Oh, God! What do you want? My wallet?"
"You know what I want. Tell me about the man you work for." Matt pulls Owsley out of his car with little force.
The man exhales as if he was running, "I work for Silver & Brent."
"I'm gonna ask you again.Think about your answer. Who do you work for?" Matt's rough voice slightly disturbs Leland.
"I told you, I work for Silver and..."
"You work for Wilson Fisk moving his money around. Which means you have records, proof of who..." Matt doesn't finish his sentence as he gets distracted by the distant tapping of the cane and Owsley sees a chance to tase Matt right into the chest and he falls flat on the ground.
"Asshole." Owsley scoffs and quickly drives away, leaving Matt rolling on the ground like a dying worm.
The cane tapping gets closer and closer, before it slightly hits Matt in the leg, "You just gonna lie there all night?"
Matt groans through gritted teeth and mutters, "Stick."

Dreams That Are Mine Anyway
Emily had never felt exhaustion like it.
-x-
Just some nice fluff to get you all through to the end of the week <3
-x-
Words: 2k
Warnings: Pregnancy
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
She wakes to the familiar squeeze of her husband’s hand on her shoulder, the feeling paired with a gentle shake to wake her up.
“Em, sweetheart,” Aaron says, his voice soft, “You’ve got to get up.”
She opens her eyes to be greeted with a smile on his face. She becomes more aware of her surroundings and realises she’d fallen asleep sitting on the couch as she waited for him to finish getting ready. They had only just returned home from a case, just in time for an event at Dave’s house to launch his latest book.
“I didn’t even realise I’d fallen asleep,” she grumbles, immediately leaning into Aaron’s side as he sits next to her, “I don’t think I’ve ever been this exhausted in my life.”
Aaron smiles and kisses her temple, his arm resting over her shoulders, “We can stay in if you want,” he says, smiling at her when she tilts her head to look at him, “It’s not like Dave’s book launches are a once in a lifetime thing.”
She chuckles, shaking her head at him, “No, we’ll go. It will only create more questions if we don’t,” she presses her cheek into his shoulder, “Although I can’t promise you won’t find me fast asleep in his bathroom though.”
“I’m sorry,” he replies, running his hand up and down her arm.
“So you should be,” she grumbles half-heartedly, although he can hear her smile. She presses her hand to her still flat stomach, “It’s your fault.”
He shakes his head at her before placing his hand over hers, his thumb tracing the back of her hand.
“I seem to remember you being a pretty willing participant in it all.”
They’d been trying for a while, just long enough that Emily had started to lose hope. The sparkle in her eyes fading bit by bit whenever he mentioned expanding their family. Aaron knows he’ll remember the look on her face when the test came back positive for the rest of his life. Joy and love in equal measure made her eyes flood with tears that eventually fell against his shirt as he held her close, the pregnancy test still clasped in her hand trapped in between them.
She was now 9 weeks along, and according to her doctor, everything was perfect. His wife, he knew, would disagree with that.
Nausea had been the first symptom that she’d been struck by. It had come on fast and vicious, leaving her bitterly complaining to him that whoever called it morning sickness was an idiot. The exhaustion had crept up on her and now it was bone deep. Her limbs felt heavy and she was always fighting off sleep.
No one else knew yet, and they wanted to keep it that way for a few more weeks. The news seeming precious, something they didn’t want to share with the world just yet.
Something just for them.
“I can’t even have coffee,” she complains, yawning again, she flashes him a quick smile, “Worth it though.”
Aaron leans down and kisses her, his lips firm against hers, “Come on sweetheart, the sooner we get there, the sooner we can get back.”
She nods and stands up, stretching as she does so, and he watches her, a wide smile on his face. He can’t help but imagine what she’ll look like a few weeks down the line when the already subtle changes that had started to happen would be obvious to everyone, her stomach blooming with the evidence of their child. Of their love.
“What?” She asks, and he looks up at her face, sees her raised eyebrow and amused smile, and he stands up to join her, his hand on her hip.
“You look beautiful,” he replies, and she rolls her eyes at him.
“Well, enjoy it whilst it lasts, honey,” she says, patting his chest and rearranging the collar of his jacket, “In a few months I’ll be massive.”
“All the more to love,” he says, and she shakes her head, laughing at him.
“You’re ridiculous,” she says, kissing him quickly before she pulls away, “Come on, let's go.”
She falls asleep in the car almost as soon as Aaron starts the engine.
___
“Are you ok, Em? You don’t quite seem yourself.”
Emily smiles at Penelope as she nods, “I’m ok, Pen,” she says, her body betraying her as she starts to yawn, groaning as it ends, “Just tired. I think this last case took it out of me.”
JJ raises an eyebrow at her, a smirk flashing across her face as she lifts her drink to her lips to take a sip.
“Are you sure that's it?”
Emily finds herself grateful for the political training she’d received almost as soon as she learnt to speak. Her extreme control over her emotions, her reactions, means she simply just looks at her friend, a slightly curious look on her face despite the anxiety she felt bubbling in her stomach. They’d been careful in the few weeks since they found out she was pregnant. Aaron still brought her coffee every day just like he always had, quietly switching to decaff without anyone noticing. She was now working from precincts, or conducting witness interviews, when they were away on cases, a mutual agreement between the two of them that the field was not the right place for her. She knew they were walking a fine line with that one, that eventually the team would question the distribution of work, but she hoped they could get away with it for another few weeks.
Emily shrugs, “What else would it be?”
She’s grateful when Aaron approaches, his arm wrapping around her from behind as he passes her another drink. It was soda water dressed up to look like a fancy cocktail, and she smiles when she thinks about how much her husband must have tipped the bartender to prepare her drinks like this all evening, an attempt to avoid any questions.
“Here you go, sweetheart.”
“Thanks, honey,” she says, smiling up at him as he holds her a little closer, his palm briefly ghosting over her stomach before settling at her hip. She looks back at her friends and sees them exchange a small look and she narrows her eyes, deciding to change the subject before anything else was said, “Dave really knows how to throw a party doesn’t he?”
They all laugh, and JJ nods, “Between mine and Will’s wedding, yours and these book launches, I think he’s got another career option in case he gives up working at the FBI.”
“Please,” Emily says, rolling her eyes as she leans back against Aaron, letting him take some of her weight, “The only way that man is leaving is if he’s fired...and even then Aaron would have to have him removed from the premises.”
“What’s that Prentiss?” Dave says, appearing from nowhere, and Emily smiles teasingly at him, always ready to wind him up.
“Nothing Dave,” she smirks, “Just saying how good you are at throwing parties.”
He rolls his eyes at her before looking at Aaron, “Your wife is giving me a headache,” Emily’s smile deepens, and Aaron’s hold on her hip tightens a little, a small sign to let up on their friend, “Things will start winding down soon, you could all stay for a couple more drinks if you want?” Dave offers, “I could get the good scotch back out from its hiding place.”
Emily tilts her head up to look at her husband and sees the question in his eyes, and she knows he’d leave if she wanted to. That they’d make their excuses and he’d take her home via whatever fast food restaurant she wanted, because of course he’d have noticed she hadn’t eaten any of the food Dave had paid to be served. All of it was too rich for her permanently unsettled stomach, or something she couldn’t eat because of her pregnancy.
But she can see that he wants to, that he’s having fun. A rare night where they were having fun with their friends without work or anything else getting in the way. Something that would get even rarer in about 7 months when a newborn would be taking up most of their time.
She places her hand over his on her hip and squeezes, smiling at him as a silent conversation passes between them before she looks back at Dave.
“Sounds good to us.”
___
At first, Aaron doesn’t even realise she’s fallen asleep. The weight of her against his side was familiar, a comfort to him as much as it was to her.
They are sitting next to each other on one of Dave’s couches, pressed up against each other to make room for Penelope on Emily’s other side. She’s got her head on his shoulder, and her arms wrapped around one of his, almost hugging it to her chest. It’s more of them, of how affectionate that they were behind closed doors than they would allow other people to see - even the team. From the very start, even after the team found out about them and as their relationship shifted from dating to engaged to married, they kept a certain amount to themselves. So much of their lives was shared with their team, their family, that it was important to them to keep some things just for them.
It was part of why they were still keeping Emily’s pregnancy to themselves, something just for them for a little while longer.
“Hotch,” Derek says from the other couch, gaining Aaron’s attention. As soon as he does he tilts his head towards Emily, and Aaron looks down, smiling softly as he sees his wife is fast asleep against him. Her cheek is pressed into his shoulder, her mouth open slightly, and he knows he has to wake her before she drools on him.
She’d never forgive him if he let her do that in front of the team.
“Oh my poor, Peaches,” Penelope says, a small pout on her face, “She’s been so tired.”
“It was a long case,” Aaron says automatically, and he misses the look Penelope and Dave exchange over his head as he leans down to gently wake up his wife, “Sweetheart, you’ve got to wake up so we can go home.”
She shifts, waking suddenly, her head lifting up off his shoulder as she takes in her surroundings. She winces as she looks at the team, all of their focus on her.
“Sorry,” she mumbles, stretching her back out a little as she sits up straight, putting a tiny bit of space between her and Aaron, “It-”
“Was a long case,” JJ finishes for her, making Derek hide a smile in his drink.
“I should take you home,” Aaron says, squeezing Emily’s hand before he stands, tugging her up so she stands up too, “So you can get some actual rest.”
“Yeah, sounds good,” Emily replies, turning to look at the rest of the team, “We’ll see you all on Monday.”
The team all stand, and they exchange goodbyes and hugs like it would be weeks before they saw each other again, not only a couple of days. When they are done, Aaron puts his arm around his wife and leads her out of the room, leaving the rest of the team to settle back down, watching them go with interest, their conversation fading as they get further away.
“So when do you think they’ll tell us?” Dave asks, leaning over to pour JJ and Derek some more scotch.
“Oh, they’ll try and keep it a secret for another few weeks,” Derek replies, a smirk on his face, “But it’s so obvious.”
“Poor, Em,” Penelope says, leaning back into her seat to get more comfortable, “She looks so happy but so tired.”
“Wait,” Spencer says, his eyebrows knitting together, “What’s going on?”
The rest of them chuckle, and JJ looks at him, a sympathetic look on her face, “Spence…Emily is pregnant.”
“She’s what?”

Dirty Talk
Series: NCIS:Hawai’i
Ship: Kacy
Characters: Kate Whistler, Lucy Tara
Posted on Ao3 here.
They were at home in bed when Lucy brought it up again.
“So … Miss America, huh?”
Kate groaned but couldn’t stop herself from grinning at the same time, not when Lucy looked that cute, eyebrows raised and a big smile stretched across her face. “Do we really need to talk about it?”
Lucy propped herself up on her elbow. “I just have so many questions. How old were you? Were you ever in a pageant? Do you have a sash and tiara somewhere?”
“It started when I was six and lasted until I was twelve, which was when I got my mom to enter me in a local beauty pageant. It did not go well.”
“Oh no, poor little Kate! What happened?”
“Little Kate was not so different from adult Kate,” she said ruefully, because it was true but also kind of embarrassing, for both little and adult Kate. “I was stiff and treated the whole thing like a cross between a job interview and an informative presentation. I did okay in the fashion show, but during the interview they asked me why I was in the pageant and I said ‘to win,’ and then they asked me why I should win, and I said ‘because I know the most about the pageant,’ and started listing all the pageant rules and past winners and then they cut me off and eliminated me before the talent competition.”
Lucy rubbed her arm comfortingly. “Sorry, my sweet. Did you at least get to do the wave?”
“I did.”
“Good.” Lucy bit her lip, looking at Kate thoughtfully. “I kinda wish I could see you in a pageant. Now you, not younger you, although I would also love to see that if you’ve got pictures.”
“What, you want to see me in an evening gown with hair so hairspray’d it can’t move?”
“No. Well, yes to the evening gown sometime, but no to the helmet hair. I just think you’d look good in a tiara.”
“You do, huh?”
“What, you don’t?”
“I don’t know. I never got the opportunity.”
“Well,” Lucy said, walking her fingers up Kate’s arm, “I bet we could find one for you to wear. If you were interested.”
“I wouldn’t be against it.” She caught Lucy’s hand in her own, lacing their fingers together. “What about you? Do you want another Cowboys jersey? One that’s new and doesn’t have holes in it?”
“Hey, that jersey is lucky. I’ve worn it to sleep before every job interview. I even wore it before we went on our first real date.”
“You did?” Kate suddenly felt a lot more affectionate for the ratty thing. Though she still hoped it wouldn’t make a return to Lucy’s sleepwear rotation anytime soon.
“Yup. Although I guess it wasn’t lucky because we got interrupted and then we broke up, but then we got back together, so does that still count?”
Lucy scrunched her nose, lost in thoughts about good luck charms.   Kate brought their joined hands to her lips and kissed her girlfriend’s fingers to get her attention again. “Tell you what, we’ll keep it around. Just in case. So what would you wear as owner of the Dallas Cowboys?”
“I dunno. Maybe like a really nice tailored suit.”
“You know I’ve always said you look great in a suit,” Kate said, her breathing already becoming slightly unsteady at the thought of it. She’d always liked the idea from an aesthetic standpoint, had loved the one suit Lucy owned when she wore it to the Pearl Harbor ceremony, but it had upgraded to something more than that after she came home to find Lucy wandering around the apartment in one of Kate’s suit jackets a few weeks ago. It had been innocent on Lucy’s part - it had started raining outside and the temperature had dropped and she’d just grabbed the first thing she’d seen and thrown it on to warm up. So it had been a surprise to them both when Kate had come home and practically tripped over herself dragging Lucy to the bedroom, where she’d ended up wearing nothing except the jacket.
Lucy smirked, her eyes twinkling. “I know. And I’ve always said they’re too uncomfortable to wear except for important occasions, but maybe I could make an exception.”
Kate actually gulped. “R-really?”
“Uh-huh.” Lucy reached out her free hand and wrapped it up in Kate’s t-shirt and pulled until she settled on top her, and looked up at Kate with those big, mischievous eyes. “I could get a Cowboys tie or something to go with it. Whaddaya think?”
She decided the best answer was to press Lucy down into their many pillows and kiss her hot and desperate.
The next day, their hair still a little disheveled, Lucy with a bruise right below her neckline and Kate with some light nail marks on her back, they did some online shopping.

Phoenix frowned as he tried to straighten his tie in front of the full body mirror. It wasn’t really crooked, but he wanted everything to be perfect today. Sighing, he undid it for the millionth time, and tried to straighten the crinkles that had formed. He turned around to ask Trucy for help, only to notice she was gone, along with Maya. Although he didn’t have long to ponder, as there was a knock at his door.
“Come in,” he said, turning back around.
“Phoenix?” Came a soft voice, and he looked up to see Sky standing by the door. He smiled.
“Hey, shouldn’t you be helping your dad?” He laughed, before huffing and undoing his tie again.
“Here, let me,” she said, turning him around and looping his tie. She continued to speak, “Trucy and I decided to switch. You both seemed pretty nervous.”
“Miles is nervous? He’s not regretting this, is he?” He could feel his palms starting to gum up, what would he do if that was the case?
“Yes, he is nervous, but he’s not running. Don’t worry.” Sky finished his tie, before straightening out the rest of his suit jacket. It was a dark, midnight blue, and her father was wearing a dark red one. For once, Miles had abandoned his cravat in favor of a tie. “Trucy and I figured you’d feel better if we switched places for a bit.”
“Heh, why is that?”
She smiled at him, “Because sometimes you need outside reassurance.” She wrapped her arms around him, in a surprise hug, and he stumbled back a bit. “There is no one else in the world I trust to make papa happy, than you. I’m honored to call you my other daddy.”
“And there is no other family I’d rather be a part of than yours,” he smiled, feeling a little choked up. The door opened suddenly, and Maya burst in.
“Hey Nick! Ready to get married to the love of your life?”She laughed, and Sky headed towards the door.
“Hmph, the defense was born ready!” The two girls rolled their eyes.
---
“Miles Edgeworth, how on earth do you not know how to tie a tie?!” Franziska scolded, as she undid his tie.
“It was perfectly fine Franziska,” he sighed, letting his sister redo it nonetheless. Just as she finished, the door clicked open.
“Uncle Miles?” Trucy asked, poking her head in. “Actually, I guess it’s papa now,” she laughed.
“Trucy, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be with your father?” He asked, as Franziska said something about guests and left.
“Nope! Sky and I switched, we wanted to make sure neither of you got cold feet.” She walked over to the mirror, and straightened the bow holding her hair in a braid.
“Why? Is Phoenix regr-”
“Oh no! Daddy’s just been nervous something will go wrong. After all, we’ve got quite the cast at this wedding. At least half the wedding party has been accused of murder, including you and daddy!”
“Oh… I suppose you’re right,” he joined her by the mirror, and tried to straighten out some small folds. “I-I don’t think I ever asked, how do you feel about all this?”Trucy looked up at him, before tackling him in an awkward side hug.
“There’s no one better to be my second papa! You make daddy and me happy.” She smiled. Their conversation ended with a knock at the door.
“Hey pal? You ready to go?”
“Heh, the prosecution has no objections.”
---
Down stairs, the guests were mingling, and looking for good seats. Not many people had brought a plus one, as Phoenix had invited pretty much everyone they knew. Some of the berry big circus members were in attendance, along with Will Powers, and plenty of other old clients. Even Wendy oldbag was there, although she was heading security for the event. Miles had been worried about inviting her, but once she’d heard who he was marrying, she began to ramble about always knowing there was something between them. It was actually quite sweet.
As for the bridal party, Maya and Gumshoe were Phoenix and Miles best man and woman respectively. Phoenix’s groomsmen and women were Larry, Athena, and Apollo, while Miles’s were Kay, Simon, and Klavier. Trucy and Sky would be the ring bearers, Pearl was the flower girl, and Franziska was going to walk Miles down the aisle. The judge had offered to officiant the wedding.
Other noteworthy attendants were of course Raymond Shields, who Miles was sure would have brought Katherine Hall if she weren’t in jail, Sebastian Debeste, who was attending with judge Courtney and John marsh who’d brought Cody as his plus one friend (there weren’t many children and they figured he’d want someone his age) . Nahyuta and Ema had of course been invited, along with queen Amara, Rayfa, and Datz. Lamirroir had been invited both as a guest, as Trucy and Apollo’s mother, and to sing their first dance. Maggie Byrde was also there, as Gumshoe’s plus one, the Delite’s and Iris Fey. It truly was a busy event, although still rather small, the characters more than made up for it.
“It’s finally happening!” Athena squealed. Her, Juniper, Kay, and Robin were standing together near the altar.
“Thena, calm down,” Juniper laughed at her friend.
“I’m so excited!” Robin yelled. “These two are t-o-t-a-l-l-y the ultimate power couple. Bad guys stand no chance around them!”
“I know! It’s great to see Mr. Edgeworth and”, she put on her stiff Edgeworth impression, “That man,” she dropped it before continuing, “getting married. They complement each other so well.”
“Can everyone please get to your seats!” Maya yelled from the doorway, “It’s show time!”
Anyone not in the bridal party made their way to their seat, while Phoenix entered, and stood by the altar with his groomsmen and women. Once everyone settled down, the wedding march started. It came through the speakers loud enough to be heard outside the room, they’d triple checked. So where was everyone else. Phoenix frowned, Miles wouldn’t get cold feet this last minute, something had to be wrong.
All questions were answered when a very annoyed Franziska walked in and told them to cut the music.
“The wedding is one hold, there’s been a murder.” Everyone groaned in annoyance.
“Oh no! Is Mr. Edgeworth alright?” Regine asked.
“My baby brother is fine. No one in the wedding party was murdered.” Phoenix could tell she was trying to avoid causing a scene by giving as little information as possible.
“Who’s the accused?” Adrian Andrews asked.
“It seems the wedding caterer has been murdered… and the suspect is Miss. Edgeworth…” This caused an uproar.
“What! Is it a requirement to be accused of murder to join the Wright family?!” Apollo asked exasperatedly, this earned a few laughs, including one from Phoenix.
“Welp!” Ema said, as she shuffled out from her seat between Nahyuta and Rayfa. “Let’s get this over with, the sooner the better.”
“You can’t seriously be planning to finish the case fast enough to finish the wedding today!” Max yelled.
“Mr. Galactica,” the judge said, “Anything is possible when it come to Mr. Wright and Mr. Edgeworth. Not to mention we have plenty of detectives and Lawyers here, I am certain we can prove her innocence quickly. We can catch the killer another day.” This earned a round of agreement.
“Alright!” Phoenix said, clapping his hands. “Let’s do this.” He went to head for the door, only to be stopped by Maya and Athena. “What?”
“It’s bad luck to see the groom before the wedding,” Maya said.
“And you definitely don’t need anymore. So just stay here Mr. Wright, we’ll clear this up quickly,” Athena finished. He sighed.
“Fine, but keep me in the loop!”

NTMF College AU chapter 3ish
I am having a heck of a time finding good spots to put in chapter breaks, so I apologize for presenting an extremely long chapter, although I can't say anyone has ever said they were upset over such a thing...
-
Noel blinked, rubbed her eyes, then blinked again.
The tall, shadowy figure did not disappear. It seemed to be waiting for a response from her.
She gave up on blinking and shook her head, touching her temple. “I need help... am I truly hallucinating now, on top of everything else?”
“That isn't particularly specific.” The hallucination lifted its head as it straightened, revealing a pointed black face, and crossed its arms, giving an annoyed impression.
Noel didn't respond to it, speaking out loud to herself instead. “I thought it was fancy things like absinthe that made one hallucinate, not bottom shelf swill...”
She looked back at it—no, it was a him, a very tall and elegantly dressed devil with red eyes glaring down at her. He was dressed very formally in a jacket with tails, a tie and red vest. Long, pointed black fingers drummed on his elbows as he watched her with what she could tell was growing irritation.
She truly had to appreciate her own imagination, he was incredibly detailed, and had a strong aura she could almost physically feel.
She picked up the vodka bottle and squinted at the label. “Perhaps thish—this has gone bad—eh?”
The devil had yanked the bottle out of her hand, staring from it to her in disgust. “You—you're drunk?”
Noel closed her hand, realization slowly sinking in that she wasn't holding anything anymore, and she hadn't dropped it, either. She slowly dragged her eyes up to the devil's face. “You... you're really here...? Really?”
“Yes. Are you seriously implying that you summoned me, a Great Devil, on accident?” She'd never seen a face like his before, but she could clearly read the irritation, growing into anger, written upon it.
“I... um...” She looked around. The shattering noise she'd heard earlier was a small vial that must have rolled off the table when she bumped it—it looked like blood had been in it. She glanced at the stereo—despite being off, she could still see that the alarm function was on, set to midnight. She looked down at the couch perfectly aligned to face the center of the circle, then back up to the devil's face. “I... I believe I was set up...”
“Set up?” It didn't sound like the devil had much more patience left. He tossed the vodka bottle aside, she flinched at the noise as it also shattered.
Fear was quickly sobering her. She lowered her head, her heart pounding. “I... I truly apologize. I—I did not mean to waste your time.”
The devil took a step closer—uncomfortably close, although there wasn't a distance far enough that would be comfortable. He was at least a foot and a half taller than she was, and his arms could easily reach her from his new position. “Do you think that's going to be enough to pacify me? An apology? An excuse?”
She flinched again. “I... I do not know what else I might safely offer you... ”
“Safely offer...” he repeated. He closed an eye and crossed his arms as he looked down at her thoughtfully. She couldn't read his expression or mood anymore. “So you will freely offer me something, in return for your accident? Perhaps we can make an arrangement after all.”
“Eh?” She looked up at him in surprise; she hadn't expected such a simple phrase to calm his growing anger. She hurried to think back on everything she had ever been told about devils. Devils are said to be extremely particular about wording, and that seems to be the case here. I need to be very cautious in what I say next!
She swallowed nervously. “What—what kind of arrangement?”
He looked down at her arrogantly. “I'll consider alleviating my boredom sufficient payment for your little accident, if you can also provide me with a reason to be here.”
“A—a reason?” she repeated blankly.
His expression didn't change. “Do you have a wish?”
“A wish...?” Noel blinked as she recalled why people risked their lives and limbs to summon devils to begin with. She wrapped her arms around herself, thinking of one specific wish she'd had for almost exactly a year now. “I... I have many wishes. Doesn't everyone? But I—I will work towards them on my own. I know that the shortcuts are not worth the price you devils take.”
Even though that one is specifically impossible for anyone except a devil...
He sounded impressed, but remained sarcastic. “Wise, coming from a drunk woman who accidentally summoned one.”
“It was a set up, rather than simply my foolishness,” she clarified again with a frown, regretting the words as soon as they left her mouth. She hurried to add something mollifying. “P-perhaps as an apology, I could—I could help to grant your wish, instead?”
Is the alcohol making me stupid or brave?
Stupid, apparently. The red eyes narrowed. “The sheer arrogance, to think a human like yourself would even be able to comprehend a devil's wish...”
She closed her eyes in another wince. “I apologize again for my rudeness! I truly do not wish to die tonight, especially before I have overcome my disgrace—“
“Overcome your disgrace?” The devil took the smallest step back, crossing his arms again. “That sounds interesting. Explain it to me.”
Noel felt surprised once more at the devil's sudden change in mood. He had mentioned being bored, but will my life drama truly keep his interest? I—I suppose simply telling him about it won't commit me to anything.
“Um... yes, yes I can do that.” Finally, her manners kicked in through the alcoholic haze. “Ah, would you um, like to have a seat?”
The devil raised a brow at her, casually—yet somehow elegantly—dropping onto the couch. It emphasized how much taller he was, while it was the perfect height for her, his long legs were bent awkwardly. She carefully perched on the other side of it, trying not to bite her lip nervously as she subtly observed him. He stared back at her openly and shamelessly.
He doesn't look real, I've never seen anything like him before in my life. Something from another world has truly appeared in my living room! Ignoring the circumstance that led to this, or the danger that I am in, that's so fascinating...
He seemed to be done taking in her appearance in and began to look around the room. She was able to look at him more closely without fear of accidentally meeting those piercing red eyes.
He is really strangely... she thought, then tried to shake off the following thoughts. She needed to think clearly, and admiring aesthetics would only cloud her mind. “Um may I—I offer you something to drink? I-I could make tea, perhaps.”
“I suppose you have already absorbed all the nearby alcohol,” he said, sounding a bit disappointed.
Well, you were actually the one who broke the bottle, but I will not remind you of that fact.
“Ah, I... wait a moment. Is wine all right?” She stood up carefully. “I'll—eh?”
Her heart pounded painfully. He had caught her wrist in one of his large hands; it seemed like it could almost circle it twice. He didn't look at her. “Don't try to run off. You'll regret it.”
“I won't,” she said a bit crossly, feeling insulted by the insinuation. She drew her hand back as he released it, rubbing it with her other, although he hadn't hurt it. His hand had been much warmer than she'd expected, and showed that he was, indeed, real. “I will take responsibility for what I have done, whether it was my fault or not.”
However, she added to herself, I will also be breaking open Spica's prized wine bottle—the one that she was saving until the New Year, as that is now the very least she owes me for putting me in this mess!
She went to the kitchen and hurried back with the bottle and two glasses, struggling with the wine cork. “Ah, pardon me, it's a bit stuck—“
The long, pointed fingers reached out and carefully took the bottle from under her arm, removing the cork easily and handing it back. “Um, thank you.”
She carefully poured him wine, then some for herself. The vodka seemed to have worn off from her adrenaline. She hoped the wine would calm her nerves. If I am going to be in an outrageous situation, I do not wish to be sober for it!
“So you mentioned you were disgraced.” She couldn't quite tell how he was drinking the wine, but he seemed to be pleased by it. Spica was surprisingly a bit snobbish when it came to alcohol—it all tasted the same to Noel—so she must have been saving a quality vintage.
“Ah, yes.” She focused on the fire again, trying not to look at him. He was too distracting, she felt like she couldn't think properly when she did. It might have been his unearthliness, or the fact that calmly sitting on the couch in front of a fire drinking wine with a male felt oddly like a rather intimate date, rather than a conversation in which her life might hang in the balance. “To begin, are you aware of where we are, right now?”
“Judging from the papers you have on this table—” he gestured to the mail laid out on the side table—“I am assuming that this is Lhaplus College of the Arts. I am very familiar with this city, less so its educational institutions. Are you Spica, Jillian, or Noel?”
“I am Noel,” she replied, trying not to shudder at the thought she could be mistaken as Spica. “I am—was—a music major. However, for reasons I do not yet understand, my recent finals recording was switched with another student's. When I confronted Professor Becker, she denied everything. She lied to Dean Burrows, claiming that I—”
“Burrows?” She glanced over at him at the sharp interruption, her eyes widening slightly.
“You've met?”
“We have. Continue.” He clearly did not wish to elaborate on his emotional reaction.
That response says that they have more than met, that's for certain! she thought as she sipped a little more wine.
“I met with Dean Burrows and the professor I mentioned, plus one other, Professor Lorenzi. They claimed that I had threatened Professor Becker, and Lorenzi had witnessed it. I was told that I must either voluntarily withdraw from the music program by Monday, or else I would be expelled. And thus, I came home, and began to drink my sorrows away, as they say.” “How terribly unfair,” he said dryly. “That's it, then? You're unable to continue at this college? Aren't there hundreds of human universities you could transfer to? This is hardly a life-ruining disgrace.”
I never claimed it was!
She found herself making a small face at his rudeness simply dismissing the second worst thing that had ever happened to her, then caught herself as she once again noticed his long, pointed fingers, now curved around the wine glass. Shouldn't I be a bit more nervous? He could easily rip me apart with those hands...
“It isn't just that. The person with the best score in the autumn finals will be the ceremonial pianist—surely, you, as a devil who is familiar with Lhaplus, have heard of the yearly ceremony to expel devils from the city.”
His eyes narrowed. “I have. That takes place in about two weeks, does it not?”
“Correct. It is an extremely prestigious position, one that both of my parents have held. If you are the chosen one, every opportunity you could imagine is not just open to you, but practically guaranteed.” She made an awkward expression. “I am... not good at much other than playing piano. So something like this would be very important for my future, and becoming self-sufficient. Currently, I am very much under the thumb of my parents, despite being an adult. This... was my chance at freedom.”
Why... why am I telling him all this?
She looked at the wine in her hand and gave a small sigh of realization.
Right. I'm still drunk. Well, he isn't telling me to shut up, so...
“You only have one chance at this position. It must be your first year in this college, and you must be the best in your class.” She paused. “This is technically my second year, since... things happened last year, but my parents put enough pressure on the school that they made an exception to consider me a new student again, as I was unable to complete even half of the first semester last year.”
Noel took another sip of wine, staring into the fire. They will be extremely displeased to learn they expended so much capital to get me a second chance, only for it to be stolen from me—but of course they won't believe that. They'll think I'm making excuses, as they always do...
Even though there was no way to make the incident back then my fault, I know they still blamed me—just not out loud.
She shook off her thoughts to continue. “I do not mean to be arrogant, but as I said, I am very skilled. I am the best in my class. I was confident that I would have been the chosen pianist, so when someone else was picked, I listened to the winning recording. I recognized my own playing.”
She frowned as she thought more about it. “Given that they switched mine with one of the worst students—I do not mean to be unkind, of course, but he truly is not very skilled—I cannot help but wonder if they are intending to sabotage the ceremony for some reason.”
“Hmm.” The devil swished the wine in his glass, staring into the fireplace thoughtfully. The noise showed that he was still listening, which seemed to be a good sign.
“I had thought the ceremony was simply tradition, but I am now having my doubts. If it were, there would be no gain in putting on a poor performance. But if it is not...” Noel paused, her voice trailing off as she looked over at the devil.
Perhaps I should not be saying this—would he, as a devil, not be in danger from me, were I to be the chosen pianist again?
Her heart gave a single, violent thud.
He might... choose to kill me to avoid that fate...
“The ceremony is a mixture,” he said, unexpectedly, finishing his wine and setting the glass on the end table. “It does expel devils, but only the weak ones, or ones who have wandered here without being summoned, or those who have stayed past their contracts' completion.”
She thought he gave her an expression like a cold smile as he looked back at her fully. “Were it effective on Great Devils such as myself, it might have been in my best interest to simply eliminate you now, just in case you were somehow able to regain your rightful position.”
“I was thinking something along those lines, so I thank you for your grace in not doing so,” she said, sipping her own wine and hoping that she didn't sound sarcastic. “But I believe that is the basics of everything you requested to know. Do you require more details?”
“Perhaps. I am supposing Dean Burrows is the one in charge of the ceremony, and has some say in the finals scoring?”
“That is correct. Professor Becker would set herself on fire if he asked, so if he pushed a certain student, she would make sure they scored the highest.” She frowned again. “And he made it quite clear that he was in on this plan to remove me—well, likely entirely in charge of it. I believe he is only offering me the chance to withdraw first in order to avoid more interference from my parents; were I an average student, I would likely have been expelled without recourse immediately.”
“Hmm.” She wondered what the devil was thinking as he looked away from her again.
I wonder how they know each other... Burrows always gave me the impression of having a hidden dark side, but Jillian thought I was mad for even suggesting it. If she had been able to sit in on our meeting today, I'm sure she would have changed her mind.
Noel shuddered a little as she thought about his cold eyes and sharp smile as he declared her fate. It had been nothing like the warm, enthusiastic leader so many looked up to—no one would believe her if she told the truth. The thought was incredibly frustrating.
She was surprised as a yawn suddenly forced its way out of her lungs. She covered her mouth, startled. “Ah, my apologies.”
The devil actually laughed, startling her even more. “You are quite a brave woman, to express boredom in front of a Great Devil who hasn't decided what he wishes to do with you yet.”
“I-I am not bored, merely tired,” she protested. “It is not an intentional—“ another yawn— “action!”
“Are you quite finished?”
“I-I am.” She rubbed her eyes on the back of her hand. “Despite my current situation, I suppose the alcohol is making me even more tired than usual, although it is also quite late.”
“It's not even two AM. That's hardly late for a Great Devil—“
She interrupted him. “I do remember what you are. You do not have to keep subtly reminding me by repeating it!”
Ah, that was not a thought I wished to share! There goes the alcohol, speaking for me again! She covered her mouth, wincing. “M-my apologies again, I am not... used to drinking... It seems to have made me quite rude. Please pardon me.”
“So you are not always like... this?” He made a gesture with one hand that seemed to cover all of her.
Noel looked down at her plaid pajamas, then glanced at her reflection in the mirror over the mantelpiece, wincing again. Her hair—partially pushed back by the sleeping mask she was wearing as a headband, was a mess, her face was quite red, and overall she looked very sloppy—hardly the image of a refined young lady. My parents would kill me if they knew I had received a guest in such a state—although I certainly did not intend to receive one! Ah—I don't even have a bra on—it doesn't seem like he's noticed or interested in that, at least!
“No, I am not,” she answered firmly, then finished the rest of her wine in one gulp. “I apologize again, but I certainly did not expect to receive a visitor of—of your caliber, at this hour, upon this date.”
He ran his crimson eyes over the room, focusing on the floor and the small pieces of shattered glass. “Let's walk back through your day one more time. You discovered your finals recording had been switched, and confronted the Professor. You then had a meeting with Dean Burrows, in which you were told to drop out of the music program, or be expelled entirely, showing that he was aware of if not in charge of the plan to remove you. You came home and got very drunk.”
His eyes shifted back to her. “So who drew this circle?”
“My roommate, Spica. She's an art major, and quite eccentric. When she was working on this, I took her word for it that it was simply another of her projects. I did not know it was a genuine summoning circle.”
I had been mostly worried that the paint would cause us to lose our security deposit...
The devil tapped his pointed face thoughtfully. “I don't suppose you have any knowledge of where she received the design of this circle.”
Noel shook her head, then her eyes widened. “Ah, wait—there was a piece of paper—“
She stood up too quickly, and was slammed with a wave of lightheadedness at her first step. She stumbled and fell—directly onto the devil.

When I Run Away (You're Who I Run To): Chapter 10
main post read on ao3

The Tesco was a short walk. Rose went up to the flat to grab a pile of reusable grocery bags, and then they were off. It was autumn, and cool out, and neither of them had remembered a jacket— Yaz could feel Rose speeding up next to her to keep warm, and she matched the pace.
“Hang on a second,” she said, rummaging through the bags. “Could’ve sworn I forgot a hoodie in one of these.” Finally, her hand closed on a bit of fabric. “Yes!” She tossed it towards Rose. “Here.”
“Hey, this is mine, isn’t it?” Rose pulled it over her head. “It is! I’ve been looking for it for ages.”
“Sorry,” Yaz said. “Was in my laundry.”
Rose shrugged. “It’s all right. You make up for it by sticking it someplace you’d find it when I was cold.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Yaz said. “In case you lose track of your laundry again.”
Rose bumped her hip against Yaz’s. “Or you could just, you know, give my stuff back to me.”
“Nope,” Yaz said. “Finders keepers.” She was grinning wide, not even minding the cold air seeping through the sleeves of her shirt. They got to the store a minute later, anyway, before the chill could really sink in. Yaz grabbed a cart, and Rose pulled out her phone.
“Got the list from Donna,” she said. “Looks like she sent it to you, too.”
“Great,” Yaz said. She glanced sidelong at Rose. “D’you have the list for what we need?”
Rose stopped in her tracks. “Oh, no.”
Yaz shook her head. “Guess we’ll have to wing it.”
“That’s all right, I guess,” Rose said. “We know what we eat, yeah? And we can come back if we need to.”
“As long as we get something,” Yaz agreed.
“Right.” Rose scrolled through the list on her phone. “Some of what we get’s the same as them, anyway.” She wrinkled her nose. “Although I continue to question Penny’s taste.”
They made their way through the store, grabbing things off the shelves and tossing them into the cart. Yaz and Rose were very used to doing their shopping together at this point, which meant they had no problem reconstructing their list, even when it came to the ingredients for the meals Yaz wanted to make— it helped, too, that Yaz stored her recipes in an app on her phone, so she could open it and remind herself what she’d wanted to get.
“If we don’t have a list, d’you think that means we can get as many snacks as we want?” Rose asked.
“You going to pay for that?” Yaz countered.
Rose rolled her eyes. “You’re no fun.”
“You’ll thank me when we’ve actually got money in our bank account.”
“Yeah, all right.” Rose grabbed a bag of crisps and tossed it in the cart anyway. Yaz shook her head, smiling, and Rose returned it with a shameless grin. Yaz felt a flush spreading through her cheeks, and she looked away.
“Checkout?” she asked, after what felt like too long of a pause.
“Yeah,” Rose said, but Yaz could feel curious eyes on her.
“C’mon,” she said, still not meeting Rose’s gaze.
They got through the checkout without incident, and then the only problem was lugging their bags back home, each carrying two on each arm. When they got back, Rose took her and Rose’s bags up to the flat, and Yaz took the ones that belonged to Penny and Donna and took them across the street. She knocked on the door, and Donna opened it seconds later, rushing to take some of the bags off Yaz’s arm.
“Thank you,” she said.
“‘Course,” Yaz said. “Kitchen with these?”
“Yeah.”
Yaz followed Donna into the kitchen. She glanced around to see Penny on the couch again, fiddling with something in her hands— Yaz couldn’t see what it was from a distance. She let Donna direct her in putting away the groceries, and then she stood awkwardly in the kitchen.
“Should I go?” she asked. “Or— I can text Rose, have her come back.” She gestured at the grocery bags. “That was pretty much all we had to do today.”
Donna glanced over at Penny. “Penny? How much company are you feeling like?”
“I—” Penny looked at Yaz. “I’d like it if you’d stay. But only if you want to.”
“‘Course.” Yaz already had her phone out, texting Rose. “We’ve got to work tomorrow,” she said as she typed. “But we can stay until this evening. And honestly, we can probably come back tomorrow afternoon, if we’re still wanted.” She shrugged. “Not like we’ve got much else going on.”
“Are you sure?” Donna asked.
“Yeah. We like hanging out around here.” Yaz dropped her phone in her pocket. “Rose is on her way.”
Sure enough, there was a knock on the door a few seconds later. Donna went to open it, and Yaz went to sit next to Penny.
“How are you?” she asked.
“Still been better,” Penny said. “But, you know. Not breaking down as much.”
“Hey, take the win.” Yaz leaned back against the cushions. “You know, we should make a plan. For if your mum shows up.”
Penny pulled her knees closer to her chest. “What do you mean?”
“For if she turns up in the bakery or anything,” Yaz said. She was half-remembering one of the few useful bits of her ten-year-old police training. “Like, Graham and Ace should know not to tell anyone where you are if they ask. Or if you’re down there and she shows up, we should come up with a way to get you out of there.” She hesitated. “You can always call us if anything happens, too. Only if I’m in the middle of a tattoo it’ll take me a second.”
Penny laughed. “Thanks.”
Rose came over just then. She looked at the couch for a second, and then she dropped directly onto Yaz’s lap, her legs landing across Penny.
“Oi!” Yaz shoved her. “There’s a whole sofa here!”
“So? I wanted to be in the conversation.” Rose showed no signs of moving.
Yaz rolled her eyes. “Couldn’t you be involved from over there?”
“Nope.” Rose leaned her head against Yaz’s shoulder. Yaz wrapped an arm around her waist, just to make sure she didn’t fall. “What’s going on?”
“Was just saying I think we ought to make a plan for if Penny’s mum shows up here,” Yaz said. She could barely remember what they'd been saying now Rose was this close to her. It had never been like this before: it was pretty normal for Rose to decide she'd rather sit on Yaz than a chair, but usually Yaz could take it in stride. Recognizing her feelings had been a mistake. She was so self-conscious now, so aware of every move. And she didn’t want Rose to go away— quite the opposite— but this was overwhelming.
“Oh, yeah, that’s smart.” Rose pushed a bit of hair out of her face. “Just after I broke up with Jimmy, my mum and I had all sorts of plans for if he ever came after me. ‘Course, most of them were just, ‘Spit in his face and go tell Mum,’ but they were plans.”
“I like that one,” Penny said. “Although the ‘go tell Mum’ part sort of defeats the purpose.”
Yaz laughed. “We’ll cut out that bit.”
“Bet you Ace would spit in her face for you,” Rose said.
“Always a good trait, in an employee,” Penny said.
Donna came over then, lowering herself to the sofa on Penny’s other side. “If your mum shows up in our bakery, I’ll happily give her a slap.”
“Right,” Rose said. “Looks like we’ve got a plan. Penny’s mum shows up, and we get Donna in to slap her, and Ace to spit in her face.”
“Or blow her up,” Penny suggested.
“Oi, no blowing up our bakery,” Donna said.
“What if we lure her outside first?” Rose asked. “Could Ace blow her up then?”
Donna shrugged. “Well, I’m not responsible for what happens out on the street, am I?”
“Might be responsible for what your employees do during work hours,” Yaz said.
“So we get Ace to clock out while Yaz and me lure her outside, and then Ace blows her up,” Rose said. “Easy. And that way technically none of it is your fault.”
“So, what, our plan is just that Penny’s mum won’t be able to find her in jail?” Donna asked. “‘Cause that’s where half of these are going to send her, seems like.”
“No, she won’t be able to find me ‘cause she’ll have been exploded,” Penny said. “The jail is just an unfortunate side effect.”
Donna sighed. “So we don’t want a plan we could actually execute.”
“I still think we could execute that one,” Penny said. But when no one responded, she let out a heavy breath. “Fine. Real plan.”
“We talk to Ace and Graham,” Donna said. “Tell them not to give out any information about you unless it’s to one of the three of us.” She ticked off each item on her fingers as she said it. “We get you a new phone, and we’re careful who we give the number to.” She glanced at Penny. “Do you want us to take your name off the website?”
Penny shook her head. “Too late,” she said. “Besides, I’m still a professional.”
“Okay. We keep you on the website. What about when you go back to work?”
“Maybe I can stay in the back?” Penny suggested. “Ace is good enough at the front stuff now.”
“I can pick up more shifts, too, if I have to,” Donna said. “I know the recipes all right.”
Penny nodded. “I don’t know when I can go back,” she said quietly. “I mean, right now, I’m not sure I could even make it down the stairs.” She looked at Donna. “Might need the cane again.”
“Do you know where it went?” Donna asked.
Penny shrugged. “It’s in my room somewhere. Probably.”
“All right if I try and dig it out?” Donna asked.
“If you like.” Penny listed to the side, her head resting against Yaz’s shoulder— bringing the total of shoulders attached to Yaz and occupied by blonde women up to two, somehow. Yaz forced herself to focus, a difficult task when she could feel Rose’s breath against her cheek.
“Should we be worried about our shop?” she asked. “I mean, we can tell Amy and Bill not to give out any information about you. Just in case.”
“Okay,” Penny said. “They're nice. Right?”
“‘Course they are,” Yaz said.
“And they like you,” Rose added.
Penny smiled. “See? It really did pay to bother you all so much.”
“You can always come to ours, too,” Yaz said. “If she's in the bakery and you can't get up to your place. Maybe we could get you a spare key to our flat?”
“I'm on board,” Rose said.
“Keep in mind, Penny,” Donna said, “this probably won’t happen. Yeah?”
“Yeah.” Penny closed her eyes. “I don’t know if I want to think about it anymore.”
“Let’s not, then,” Donna said. She grinned. “Did I see you all watching Love Island earlier?’
“Not you too,” Yaz groaned.
“Get used to it,” Rose said, grinning. “Three against one, now.”
Yaz shook her head. “All of you are lucky I like you.”
Rose slid off Yaz’s lap, squeezing in next to her on the sofa. “We know,” she said, her head still resting on Yaz’s shoulder, and Yaz closed her eyes, desperately begging her face not to betray how much those two words got to her.
The show started playing, and Yaz tried her hardest to focus on it and nothing else. She could feel herself all tensed up, and she was sure Rose and maybe even Penny could feel it too— but there was nothing she could do about that at this point. If Rose asked, she’d just have to blame it on a stressful couple days. She settled back into the cushions, her mind racing a mile a minute.

infatuations
A little study of Parknight as done by Parker and Knight themselves. B3 *Note: Set during and after s19e16, "The Wake."
Fic: "infatuations" [FFN] [AO3]
Pairings/Characters: Jess Knight/Alden Parker, Nick Torres, & Timothy McGee
Rating: light T
Words: ~3,940
Additional info: romance, 3rd person POV
Summary: In Knight and Parker's line of work, infatuations are deadly. Never anything less. On the other hand…
      They are professionals. They are damn good at their jobs. That's why Parker and Knight sit in Interrogation with Sam Radner, one of them starting the thought and the other finishing it—"Sometimes friendships turn into infatuations." "And infatuations turn into obsessions."—as they pick up on this case-solving lead at the exact same moment.
      But every good professional knows how to multitask, especially this close to the finish line, and those words whir in the back of Knight's brain, flitting around longer than perhaps they should, when Parker holds her stare for a little longer than perhaps he should.
      She tables her thoughts and feelings in that second, of course, as they leave Radner alone and rush to fill in both McGee and Torres on their theory. Time is of the essence.
      Torres whistles while he pulls up a background on the Radners' family friend. "Yeah, always thought Walt Freeman was a little too nice," he mutters. He throws up the teacher's info on the plasma.
      Knight glances at Freeman's department and the university. She checks back channels but comes up empty. "He seems squeaky clean…although he's had a lot of assistants over the years."
      McGee raises his eyebrows. "We have numbers?"
      "Printing them off now."
      Parker grabs the list and his scissors, clipping it into three. "Knight, Torres, we'll cover the assistants faster this way. McGee, look into Freeman's own phone records." And he passes out sets of numbers, though this time he avoids Knight's eyes when returning to his desk.
      Knight notes it but gets down to business instead.
      With tasks doled out, they don't take long to discover Walt Freeman's easygoing attitude and unwelcome interest towards many of his previous T.A.s. But McGee's research into the wife, Nance, takes them down the correct path, and he puts up her texts on the plasma for the team to see. "I think we've got our killer. Tony always did say it's the spouse."
      Parker quirks an eyebrow at Torres and Knight, who shrug off the namedrop, but their new team leader grabs his jacket. "Well done, McGee. I'd say it's time to take Nance Freeman in."
      McGee blinks and smiles before realizing that's Parker's invitation for him to come along on the arrest. He grabs his gear and hurries after Parker, though, leaving Torres and Knight alone in the bullpen.
      Torres whistles once more, but now it's more a sign of exhaustion. "I…have no desire to start paperwork yet," he mumbles from behind his hands, slumping in his chair. He drops his arms to his sides. "But to think—all this because Nance just assumed about Walt and Emma."
      Knight hums in agreement. She pulls up forms they'll need to wrap up this case…processing, summation, detailed analysis…but she, too, finds herself reluctant to dive right in on the last, crucial part of their work. Just—not for the same reasons as Torres.
      With her friend comfy in his chair and quite possibly napping already, Knight seeks her own reprieve elsewhere. And, given the bad things that happened up here a long while back, she's not surprised to find the roof unoccupied. Sure, Dalton didn't fall to his death after condemning his REACT team to die, but traitors leave a certain taint around NCIS, and few agents are willing to revisit where traitors once frequented.
      But here, finally, Jess Knight is alone with her earlier thoughts. And now she lets them flow.
      She gets Parker's professionalism, really. She respects and admires it, perhaps because Knight knows she doesn't always come across so polished herself. But there have been times lately, so many times, when she's seen him slip up, when Parker has shown the less perfect side of himself, and that's one of the sides that's endearing him to her.
      She chews on her bottom lip and runs a hand through her hair. Is it just him finally warming up to the idea of a team? …no, she doesn't believe that, because he doesn't lean on McGee or Torres as much out in the field. And during that whole Billy Doyle debacle, he looked half ready to spill his guts to her about his past after they found Sean's body, half ready to apologize that she'd seen him behave differently when it came to his childhood friend and said friend's murdered nephew.
      Knight leans her forearms on the ledge and looks out over the parking lot as it starts to get dark. She wonders what it is that always keeps drawing her attention back to Parker, who's so reluctant to let anyone in. Normally, she would acknowledge the other person's "back off" vibes and check herself. But with Parker—maybe it's that he's growing closer to them (to her), maybe it's that he keeps running into danger unexpectedly (they really don't need a repeat of the Stargazer), maybe it's that she and he are the freshest faces to this team and just…have that kinship (lonely souls seek out lonely souls).
      If only it were that simple, she thinks as her mind wanders to how her curious peeks at him and looks of concern have morphed the last several weeks into something more charged, something more electric—something that makes her stare last a little longer than it should when he's looking. Something that makes her heart hammer in her throat as she replays that scene from Interrogation with all their talk of infatuations.
      If only it were that simple, Parker thinks at that same moment, far away from headquarters physically but with his mind back there, in Interrogation, hours ago. He rubs his chin, absentmindedly scratching his scruff as he stares at nothing through the windshield, waiting for McGee to finish the handoff of Nance Freeman to the local cops. The arrest went smoothly and one family is broken while another gets to heal, but Parker doesn't ruminate on that long. No, he can't after that synchronization with Knight.
      Funny how that worked out, them solving the case as the critical detail occurred to them at the exact same time. He wonders, though, if he'd stared too long in that moment. He never realizes these things when they happen, only after; that was why he never thought too hard about getting into trouble with Billy way back in the day. But Parker can't help it, especially when it comes to Knight. It's hard to tear his gaze away when her eyes light up as things just—click.
      It's not the first time he's done that, too, he knows. Knight's entertaining to watch in general, an open book of expressions that he's not accustomed to being around. This team is a cast of characters, sure enough—NCIS is not straight-laced like the FBI—but Knight stands out amongst them, somehow always managing to snag Parker's attention back to her, so effortlessly.
      But that look in her eyes. Finishing each other's thoughts. And with infatuations being brought up in the same beat.
      Parker shakes his head free of the notion. No. No, he isn't infatuated with Knight. Alden Parker isn't even the type to become infatuated with anybody.
      …that said…
      McGee opens his door, abruptly pausing Parker's musings. "All set. Felt good to wrap up this case, both for us and for Virginia State Police," he says.
      "I'm sure," Parker says. He waits for the cop cars to pull away from Molly's house first before starting up the car. "But I'm glad we made the arrest. One for the podcasts," he quips.
      McGee groans but laughs. "Yeah, we did good work, but I'll be plenty happy when I hear the last of Nick's harping on about the NCIS podcast." He glances at Parker out of the corner of his eye. "Nice of you, though."
      "Hmm?"
      "Letting Knight take the lead on this case."
      And, just like that, his thoughts are back on her, with McGee making her their topic. But Parker downplays it. "Knight's a good agent. She knows what she's doing, and she and Kasie already had the background on Emma's case." He shrugs as if that sums things up.
      McGee considers that and nods. "Fair point. Although it's a good thing Knight was there for Sam the other day."
      Parker smirks a little, to himself. "She does have a knack for being exactly where she's needed," he agrees, but that's mostly just him thinking aloud.
      McGee opens and closes his mouth, deciding there's nothing to add. Just like that, the ride back to headquarters is an easy, relatively quiet one.
      They return to the office, finding Torres absent and his desk covered in half-completed work. Knight's nowhere to be seen, either. Given the hour, it's not unreasonable that either of them might've headed home already.
      "Goodnight, Parker," McGee says, tucking some work in his bag and jogging to the elevator.
      Parker doesn't get the chance to point out to him that it's not necessary, that the paperwork will still be there in the morning, that he can just go home to his family. But, eh, McGee will do what McGee will do, he's come to realize. As for himself…
      Parker drapes his jacket on his chair's back but doesn't move to sit, letting his eyes wander first to the desk beside his. Looking at Knight's desk, his Knight-centric line of thought returns in full force, gleefully aware it won't be interrupted in an otherwise empty office.
      He really had been thinking aloud, earlier. Commenting on Knight being where she's needed. Even when it doesn't always suit him, she's there—and that, he knows, comes in two different forms.
      There's the Knight who's a damn good agent, putting herself in harm's way, like with Sam Radner. Parker had put on a bravado for Torres and Kasie, saying Vance's authority held the most sway. The only reason they hadn't hopped right over to the Radner house was simply because Knight had asked Parker they not. He trusts her, and he trusted her skills with Sam, but he knows the panic he experienced while she was alone in that house with an armed suspect.
      And then there's the Knight who's too damn curious for her own good. That's the watchful, perceptive woman whose eyes Parker feels on the back of his head a lot as of late. Maybe more so, after the Doyle case, but. She's been curious, amused by him from the start. And she's been deathly concerned, mainly after the stunt he pulled aboard the Stargazer.
      He likes both of these aspects about her, really. Parker runs his hand over his mouth and finally tears his eyes from her desk, just in case these orange walls have eyes, but the casual motion coincides with his thoughts, and it makes it easier to accept his realization. He likes both these aspects of Knight. There's no harm in that, right?
      …well, of course it's a relief to know she's got the skills to protect herself as well as others and his six, but that latter aspect gives him pause. Because that curiosity, that concern—sometimes he feels this close to opening up to her, to being himself with someone again.
      And that's the most dangerous thing Parker can ever do.
      "Oh. You're back."
      He turns, finding Knight coming from the break room. Ha, thoughts really summon people… "Just got in," he states.
      Her eyes crinkle even with a soft smile. Knight passes by him on her way to her desk. "I take it no issues with Nance, then?"
      Parker shakes his head. "All that's left to do is cross our Ts and dot our Is."
      Knight chuckles. "Yeah. Torres got partway through organizing the crime scene photos before his eyelids really started drooping. I told him to go home while he could still drive." She shuffles things around on her desk, but it's obvious she lingers, since she doesn't pick up anything to do. She fidgets as if debating grabbing her things to leave, too.
      Parker raises his eyebrows. "Something on your mind?"
      "Ah, just this and that about the case."
      Doesn't he know it. "Some parts sticking with you more than others?" Except, the moment the question leaves his mouth, Parker realizes perhaps he shouldn't've asked. Instinctively, his eyes flick to hers.
      He finds Knight staring back, but she looks away first this time. "Yeah…yeah, I think so," she admits.
      Parker mindlessly pushes around the files and papers on his desk. Hell. He'll take the advice he would've given McGee and just go home, because he can't find it in him to concentrate on paperwork anymore. So Parker picks his jacket back up, gets his desk light, and asks her, "Heading out—shall we?"
      Knight blinks. But, the next second, she has her things and is by his side, and they step into the elevator together.
      He doesn't have to look to feel her eyes on him again. And, in the privacy of the elevator, he's well tempted to call out her curiosity. Maybe even tease it. He smirks, just a bit, to himself, wondering what expression she makes when put on the spot.
      But he does and says nothing, and Knight purses her lips while she narrows her eyes at him, forever trying to decipher him. The elevator dings, and she gives his nearer shoulder a squeeze. Her smile is impish, as if she understands the game they play, when she says, "See you tomorrow, Parker. Drive safe!"
      Huh. Not the expression he could've anticipated. She really keeps him on his toes.
      …which is not exactly by design, from Knight's perspective. She doesn't picture herself having ulterior motives when it comes to Parker, even if he does pique her curiosity, even if his attention does make her wake up and smell the coffee. Besides, he falls outside her type, based on past history.
      (But that's such a weak excuse, she chides herself, because history doesn't dictate the future.)
      Still, the next couple days remind her that it's not just one type of connection pulling her Parker's way. Because, especially on calmer days full of paperwork and procedure and updates and devoid of new crime, the team is relegated to the office. And the office isn't that big to begin with. And the office means proximity.
      Staring might just be her and Parker's favorite pastime, she admits to herself, certainly after catching his eye for the umpteenth time with the others' backs turned. But she doesn't mind, either, when they literally bump into each other by accident in the hallway.
      He catches her shoulders, just in case she doesn't have sure footing. Then he shares in her chuckle, self-deprecating when he says, "Sometimes I think we oughta put a speed-limit sign in the hallway."
      She likes that he's slow to remove his hands; he's got such a sure grip, it's comforting, pleasant. "You in a rush?"
      "Ah, Vance needed a follow-up on an item from last week." Parker rolls his eyes, but the motion ends with his dark eyes taking the extra second to rove over her.
      Knight grins and reaches up, fixing his hair. "Well, gotta look your best for the director."
      Parker blinks once, twice. "Ah, right. I won't be long," he assures her.
      She smiles and watches him go. So cute, seeing him the least bit disheveled or unbalanced… Knight enjoys the view before returning to her desk, and then she confronts the facts from the last few weeks, days—shit, just these last few hours, minutes.
      Parker's handsome.
      She likes his touch.
      Knight bites her bottom lip, feeling…giddy? Delirious? It's indescribable, acknowledging she's seriously attracted to him on multiple levels.
      But then her phone chirps with a text from Emma Radner's sister, Molly, and it's a rain cloud come to reset her sunny day.
      …not that Parker is aware, because he fills Vance in as requested—yes, the Winstons are still due to testify in the hijacking case—and hustles back downstairs. He takes a moment behind the staircase to catch and arrange his thoughts.
      Thoughts that are more Knight-filled these days.
      He winces, thinking of his lame humor in the hallway. A speed-limit sign? Really? He's no stand-up, but he surely can do better…although, Knight laughed, so what does that say about her? (That idea alone makes him chuckle.)
      He reflexively reaches up to run a hand through his hair—but he catches himself at the last second. He doesn't need to run a hand through his hair…nor does he want to, not after she fixed it for him.
      The memory gives him pause. His poor hallway manners are to blame for crashing into her earlier, but he's grateful for them, actually. Without that little accident, he wouldn't've caught her. He wouldn't've had an extra moment with her today.
      He wouldn't be wondering now what it feels like to have Knight running her hands through his hair, not just fixing it.
      No amount of experience can keep a person from feeling that heat on the back of his neck the way Parker does as he sinks into his realization—that dangerous notion—that he might seriously be attracted to Knight. Still, he tugs on his shirt collar and calmly, casually peeks around the stairs before returning to the bullpen.
      His eyes alight on Knight, as they always do. And he softens.
      But something's wrong. Knight's a whirlwind of activity at her desk, shoving things aside and packing up early. Her features, forever eye-catching, aren't playful the way they were earlier, with Parker in front of her, with their easy banter keeping him wondering. No, she grimaces and ignores McGee's and Torres' questions about where she's off to, before the workday's even over. She doesn't answer them and, for once, she doesn't look back, doesn't sense Parker's stare this time.
      So he tears his eyes away. Maybe he's imagining things. Maybe he's gotten rusty at this having feelings job.
      (Maybe it's time to bury said feelings before they come to light.)
      (But, if anyone has anything to bury, it's Knight, and she tries to keep skeletons in the ground where they belong, but that's so fucking hard to do when reality makes her face them at the most inconvenient times.)
      Emma Radner can have a proper burial now that her body is found and her murder solved. Sam can mourn her properly and, little does he know, he can lean on Molly to mourn her.
      Knight didn't expect the heaviness of Madden's, Ono's, and Vargas' deaths to weigh on her when she received Molly's request, asking for Knight's help to mend her bridge with Sam. But Knight can plow on, for others' sake. That's what she tells herself when she goes to the small ceremony they have for Emma, and that's what she tells herself as she exchanges words with Sam privately after.
      Why does it have to be easier to handle grief when she's helping someone else?
      Yet, the answer comes out of her mouth, surprising her yet again after she opens up to Sam about her own loss and when she gives him advice that cues Molly to show her face. She insists that Sam doesn't have to grieve alone, and Molly takes it from there.
      Knight watches the in-laws with a speck of envy. But she dwells on that long enough to acknowledge it's not really envy she feels. Today's given her an epiphany.
      She debates texting him, giving him a head's up on her way over, but Knight quickly chucks the idea. Besides, she's too focused on her revelation. It's not just about grieving alone—it's about letting herself feel everything that she's experienced since she lost her own team, the bad and the good.
      That has her laughing sarcastically at herself by the time she pulls up outside his building. She peers up at the painted brick through her window but doesn't dawdle long in her car. She feels close to bursting, so she hustles inside as another tenant exits and goes up to the second floor.
      Parker answers the door after two quick knocks. His eyebrows shoot up into his hairline. "Knight," he says, a greeting and a question all in one.
      Somehow, she musters a grin. Maybe because he lets her prop herself up against the doorjamb after dashing up the stairs? Always the gentleman, this one. "Parker," she returns.
      He frowns. "Is everything all right? The other day—"
      She shakes her head. "It's all good. Molly wanted me to help her ambush Sam at Emma's service," she states without elaborating.
      "…that…sounds alarming."
      "No, they've made up. They're doing well." She pauses. "Sam's doing well."
      Parker furrows his brow, and Knight doesn't blame him because even she thinks they're having two-thirds of a conversation. "Sorry, I'm a little lost," he admits, leaning a hand on the door's frame.
      "He and I had a little talk," Knight explains, standing up straight, standing an inch closer to Parker. Her smile is brittle, but she's done her share of crying for her friends, her family. She blinks the dampness from her eyes and hates the catch in her voice as she adds, "I explained to him the importance of not grieving alone."
      It's strange: All at once, Parker's eyes darken with sympathy, but his posture goes that much straighter, tenser. "That's good advice," he comments, but she knows a deflection when she sees it. Same as she can see the gears turning in his head, catching on to her train of thought.
      That time in Interrogation, being on the same wavelength, wasn't the first time. And it won't be the last.
      She can read it on his face, that he's reading between her lines, and she feels shaky again, that maybe her people-reading skills have rusted, that maybe she's wrong about him, that maybe she's taken too big a risk because office flirtations are one thing—but coming to Parker's apartment? Shit, what was thinking?
      Good grief, burgeoning feelings are the fucking worst.
      Yet Knight stands there, begins to tear her eyes away and run a nervous hand through her hair, and suddenly her big, bright presence dwindles in his doorway, and Parker hates that, he hates that so goddamn much.
      He knows it's a risk.
      He knows this could end badly (and he tries not to think of the last time he cared too much about someone).
      He knows that Knight's not here to talk to him about grieving alone.
      But he also knows a gorgeous blend of chaos like Jess Knight will enter his life exactly once, and he finds himself craving to get things right with her. So…he lets his resolve crumble. He reaches out, drawing her up, drawing her to him.
      Knight's breath hitches.
      Parker runs his thumb along her right cheekbone. He hasn't done this in a long while. He's probably lost his touch—
      Whatever personal qualms he has, Knight doesn't care. Bold as ever, she places her hand on his jaw and kisses him. Just once, at first, though she lingers with a small, uncharacteristically bashful smile on her lips.
      This time, he takes the step closer…or, rather, he pulls her closer to him. He kisses her, and Knight presses against him, and he no longer has to daydream as she winds her hands in his hair. No, all he has to do is walk backwards a bit, a silent invitation for Knight, who breaks for a breath and the chance to close the door behind them before she's back in his arms.
      Sometimes friendships turn into fascinations, which turn into infatuations.
      And infatuations can turn into obsessions.
      But, really, "obsession" is just another word for "passion."
:3c Me, writing this fic: *the "NOW KISS" meme* XDDD Honestly, I've had this itch to scratch for a bit, since e16 aired—altho it was difficult to write this only after "The Wake" and not including any of the Parknight goodness that came out of e17, "Starting Over." (Alas, for that, I wrote "close, closer, closest." XP) But! I knew I wanted to do a few things here: write a stream-of-consciousness Parknight, get them to analyze their attraction (and also emphasize that they're physically attracted to each other, too, which I've not played up much in previous Parknight fics), to get together for real (bc it was there but less definite in both "Plus One" and "quick hands"), and, yeah, to kiss and oooohh lookit that some implied yumminess. ;) Honestly, tho, I dearly appreciate all the scenes in the show where these two rly do look over at one another, like. Is there potentially Parknight in the far horizon?! Who tf knows!!!! But they have such good chemistry and I sincerely love them for a million reasons. I also wanted to include a few headcanons here, tho I think they're mostly subtle (i.e., why Knight thinks of "the other person" and not "the guy" when reminiscing on her love life, why Parker is v cautious about relationships) and tied to canon anyway. I deffo need to expand more on the growing list of hcs I have for them, both as a ship and as individual charries…which I'm off to do in my next story! XD But UGH. I just. Come scream at me if you love Parknight, too, folks. TT-TT (Also, this was deffo one of those fics that I was like hrmm :L when writing it, esp bc the notes/outline for it were scant, but loved it when I edited it, *lol*. Sometimes time rly ages things nicely! XD)
Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave an anon/unsigned review via the FFN link or comment via the AO3 link at the top of the post, especially if you enjoyed this!

Dinner and a Confession
PARING: Jibson (Patrick Jane / Teresa Lisbon)
GENRE: Angst (but not really?)
WARNINGS: pre-smut that may be a little bit more than “pre” but not explicit
WORD COUNT: 6019
SUMMERY: Jane and Lisbon have a fwb relationship before he leaves for Venezuela and he wants something more when he gets back, he just cannot make up his mind when he should tell her. When he gets the courage to, she is about to go on a date with someone else. Jane has to tell her before it's too late. or Jane tells his feelings to Lisbon at the hotel at dinner,
(Not really) Based off of the lyrics in VOWELS by HUNNY, but I wouldn't call it a songfic: "You can't spell pain, kiss, run away, or little mistake without me."
TAGS: Au, fw/b (kinda) / unrequited love. Angst, pre-smut, vega lives, some cannon but ehh, Dog Libson, jane actually tells lisbon at the hotel, not on the plane, kinda wrote in a past tense point of view. Mostly lisbons pov, but a little jane (third person)
[READ ON AO3]
When Jane first walked into the CBI building the thing Libson immediately noticed was he was a broken shell of a man, dead behind the eyes, and she wasn’t sure how he kept himself upright. There were some days where Libson could see a little sparkle in his eyes, like when he solved a case in a record time. That sparkle would make Libson’s heart skip a beat every time, she told herself it was only from the stress and relief of the case they worked.
The day he got her a pony as a gift, she kissed his cheek as a thank you although she doesn’t know why she did. The next day, in her office, they had an argument over something small that didn’t actually matter. Lisbon was about to tell Jane to leave her office, he must have known because he took a step forward, standing so close they were breathing in the same air. Jane put his hands on her arms asking “Why are we fighting, Lisbon?”
Suddenly they were kissing, neither one knowing who initiated it, with Lisbon walking Jane backward putting him between herself and the wall. Once it got to be too much to breathe they broke away. “Do you want to go try the new sandwich down the road? It’s been a long day and we both could eat.” Jane smiled.
“You’re still not going to seduce me over a meal, certainly not a sub sandwich.” Lisbon chuckled.
“I just want to get something to eat!” Jane put his hands up.
“Fine but I’m driving” Lisbon said while grabbing her jacket that was sitting on her chair.
“Yes mom.” Jane joked, opening the door for her, following her shortly after she walked through the door.
Lisbon smiled, happy to eat something, but also to hang out with Jane.
-
When Jane returned from Vegas, Lisbon was mad at him for leaving, and sad that he left her. In the interrogation room when Lorelei Martins told her that Jane and her were lovers, Lisbon saw red and green. She asked more questions but Jane kissed Lorelei's head and Lisbon was done with any more questions she may or may not have. Lisbon marched straight up the stairs after letting the guard know she was done with the interrogation now. She did the cop knock on Jane’s door, which he opened immediately, like he was expecting her.
“Lovers? Jane…” Lisbon started poking his chest to shove him into the room letting herself in, closing the door behind her.
“I had to let Red John think I moved on, and had a breakdown. It’s all part of the plan.” Jane explained.
“Was this the first since, you know…” she trailed off, “you know what, I don’t want to know.”
“Lisbon, I-” he was cut off by a pair of lips, her lips, touching his.
“Did it mean anything?” She asked, pulling back.
“No, of course not. Honestly, I was filled with regret instantly.” Jane breathed.
“Good.” Lisbon smirked, pulling him into a kiss pushing him onto his make-shift padded board bed. She climbed on top of him, removing his shirt in one move. She had a goal to show him how much she missed him, and wanted to erase his time with Lorelei from that mind palace of his. When they both had finished Jane was not thinking of Lorelei any more.
-
Red John wanted Jane to prove his loyalty to him by killing Lisbon, and bringing her head to him. Jane knew that Red John was trying to hurt Jane more, and Jane wasn’t going to let Red John hurt anyone he cared for again.
“Lisbon, I have to tell you something and you are not going to like it.” Jane stopped Lisbon from leaving her office. “I’m going to have to “kill” you.” Jane said while doing air quotes.
“Jane, what the hell is that supposed to mean?” Lisbon stopped, shocked he just said that in a building full of cops.
“Well you know how I have been trying to get on Red John’s good side, trick him into thinking I have turned onto his side? Well he requested that I kill you and to prove it, bring your head to him in a box. I don’t want to kill you though, but I have a plan. I already told Rigsby and he said he’s in.” Jane prefaced.
“Well tell me, you know I want to catch this guy too. What can I do to help?” Lisbon let him more into her office.
“So I’m going to “kill” Rigsby, and it’s going to be that unknown body from the case we are working on. I’m going to “kill” you, carry your “dead” body out and meet Rigsby at the safe area I got from a guy who owes me too much money from poker that he’ll never give me. I’ll  put some fruit in a box and say it’s your head, hopefully by the time they notice it’s fruit, I’ll know who Red John is.” Jane explained.
“Okay, this could work.” Lisbon smiled.
Jane smiled as he saw Rigsby pulling the corpse into place. “I hope so. I love you, good luck.” Jane said before he shot the blank gun in her direction, grabbing her acting dead and running out of the building.
Later Lisbon asked Jane what he meant about what he said, his only response was he was too hyped up and didn’t remember what he said. The plan ended up failing when the FBI thought that Jane was Red John and intercepted the mission.
-
When Jane started locking himself into the attic space refusing to speak to anyone, narrowing down his personal list of who was actually the man who killed his family, he had the dead look in his eyes, but the spark was still there.
Lisbon noticed the dull look in his eyes was much deeper, when he started locking himself in his attic space, and helping with their cases. He had a mission, seven men who could be the man that took his wife and child from his life. The same man who put Lisbon in his life- but Jane can’t let Red John know this.
The office was empty after everyone had gone home, and she should too. However, she made her way up to the stairs to the roof. Lisbon knocked on the door to the attic, softly at first, Jane ignored the knock but knew by the foot fall pattern it was her.
“Jane, please? I need you.” Lisbon sighed after waiting a minute.
Jane opened the door, “Miss me already Lisbon?” he smirked, closing the door behind her.
“I need your help with a case jackass.” She smacked his chest.
“Okay, but only because you asked so nicely.” Jane smiled.
She showed Jane the case files, he saw something right away that they missed, she went to give him a kiss on the cheek as a thank you, but he grabbed her shoulders, and turned his head to make sure their lips met. Maybe it was the spark of him being so close to catching Red John, the anger she felt against him, or maybe they just missed each other but they showed each other that night how much they missed each other. Over the following weeks, it wasn’t unusual for the two of them to share that padded-foam bed a couple of days out of the week, before she left to go home.
-
But the day he caught and killed Thomas McAllister, Jane was so happy to finally have accomplished his task, he didn’t care what the consequences were. So he ran, but not before leaving a voicemail to Lisbon, thanking her for dealing with him for as long as she did, and ending the message with a “see you later”. He threw that phone in the trash can before walking away from Thomas McAllister’s dead body.
The next year and a half was full of many emotions for Lisbon. She felt hurt and embarrassed with herself for thinking that whatever they had would convince him to make sure she was a part of his plans. Maybe he was going to actually bring her a gift instead of leaving her abandoned on that beach. That he wouldn’t go off and kill Red John when she specifically asked him to make sure she was there. She wanted to be there for Jane, it wasn’t going to be easy for him, and she did agree that Red John had to die, he would escape prison no matter what they did, and he does not deserve freedom. But mostly Libson was slowly realizing that she was starting to love Jane despite all his flaws, and she just wanted to be with him.
The first week she was under constant supervision from the FBI, barely able to get them away from her for long enough for her to use the restroom. When she was home, she closed the blinds so the guard wouldn’t see her crying. She cried for what felt like a week straight, her dog Charlie laying next to her, nuzzling his head into her shoulder to show affection to her in her time of need. Lisbon did get mad, she broke some mugs against the wall, and she would hit her balled up fists onto her thighs and a table occasionally.
When the FBI finally wasn’t watching her every move and she was offered a job in small town Canyon Ridge, she took it, trying to forget him by keeping busy. Canyon Ridge did anything but keep her busy, she had so much time to think, she was miserable there, but at least she had a job. After a partially boring day she came home and grabbed the mail from the small pile on the floor by the front door and saw a plain white envelope with a capital letter ‘L’ on the front. She sat down on the couch and set the rest of the mail on the coffee table in front of her. She opened the envelope and skimmed through the letter fast, stopping at the ‘Love, U no hoo’, at the bottom of the page. She silently gasped and read the letter again and again until she had every word memorized and then read it once more. She had tears staining her face that night when she went to sleep. She knew whatever they had wasn’t real to him and seemed to just be a big mistake. As the weeks went by she got more and more letters from him, sometimes there was a small seashell with the letter, or some sand (she doesn’t think that was on purpose). She didn’t care what status they would have, but she just wanted to hear his voice, she thinks it has been long enough and she would like to see him.
-
When she got a phone call from Agent Abbott with the FBI, she was worried something bad had happened, and when he told her to pack a bag for a few days and come to Austin, she was even more worried. She sat in the nice interrogation room for a while waiting for who she thought would be Abbott, but instead saw Jane walking in the doors, her face fell. He was tan, toned, and had a look on his face that made her both want to punch him and hug him. Instead she settled on saying “Nice beard….”.
Jane  looked at her for a few seconds and pulled her into a big hug, “God. You have no idea how much I missed you Teresa.” He said still holding her for too long to be just friends, both of them forgetting they were standing in the FBI HQ.
“How did they get you to come back?” Lisbon asked, curiously.
“I told them I wanted to work with you again, but I just mostly just see you again.” Jane smiled, reaching towards her hands but not touching. “Jane I have a life built somewhere else, I live and work in Washington now.” Lisbon said with a little too much anger behind it.
“Oh?” Jane started, “Well work this one case with me, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to stay. You can go back to your home, but you should come visit me in jail sometime.”
“Jail?” Lisbon asked, “Aren’t you going to be working here?”
“Not if you leave. We are partners, I don’t want to work with anyone else. I would rather be in jail for the rest of my life.” Jane took his hands off the table, clear she wasn’t going to take his hands.
Lisbon looked at him, studying his face, it was clear he was not the same man he was two years ago, but she wasn’t the same woman she was two years ago either. “I hope you don’t mean that. The going to jail part I mean.” she said almost too quietly.
“I do mean that.” Jane shrugged. “We should probably go find Agent Abbott for details about the case.” he stated while standing up, opening the door and holding it for her.
- They solved the first case in record time, like always. It only took one of those Jane smiles and a “Please, Lisbon?” and she decided she didn’t make much of a life in Washington anyways. She wasn’t sure when it happened, but he definitely was breaking boundaries on more than just the cases they were working, but also in their friendship. He would stand closer to her and practically sit on her lap when on the couch, not that she minded anyways.
They had a minor argument over how far Jane could go to solve a case, and they ended up standing toe to toe,  and they both knew what would happen next if they were back at the CBI. Jane cleared his throat, took a step back, and apologized and told her she was right, if he wanted her to know he was serious, it was time he acted like it. He walked away, Lisbon was confused, and Wylie and Vega turned to each other with many questions, but they would not voice them out loud.
On many occasions Jane was ready to tell her what his true feelings were, but something always had to happen where he just could not. One day he decided he was just going to say it no matter what. She was just coming back from the breakroom going to her desk, grabbing her jacket off of her chair.
“Lisbon! Hi, are you leaving? Do you want me to walk you to your car?” Jane asked, jumping up from the couch behind her desk.
Lisbon smiled, “Actually it’s-”
“Hey Lisbon, I’m going to go warm up the car, I’llI wait in the parking lot for you.” She was interrupted.
“Okay thank you Pike.” Lisbon smiled.
Jane’s smile dropped but he joked, “What’s going on between you two?”
“Pike asked me if I wanted to go get some pizza tonight, and I thought why not?” Lisbon kept looking at the elevator to not meet Jane’s eyes.
“The prick in the art theft department?” Jane shot.
“You don’t even know him.”
“Well neither do you.”
“And I’m trying to change that.” Lisbon said matter of factly already walking away to the elevator to bring her outside.
“Okay, just be safe. Text me if you need anything.” Jane sighed and sat back down on the couch. Well maybe not tonight, he thought, her happiness is more important, and she probably doesn’t feel the same way.
The next day Lisbon came in ten minutes late, and Jane stood at a respectable distance from her, and didn’t sit on the couch with her. Lisbon noticed he had that dull look again in his eyes, not like when he first walked into the CBI all those years ago, but close. Was he mad at her? Or just respecting her now that she is dating someone else?
-
Months went by with Jane ignoring her, and Pike and her becoming more serious. There was a case at a wedding venue that overlooked the Colorado River, which was very beautiful.
“Isn’t this such a nice view? I think getting married in front of a nice river or lake would be a nice experience.” Jane spoke, uttering the most words she’s heard from him in a sitting since that night of her first date with PIke.
“Hmm, yeah it would be nice.” Lisbon said, while her mind pictured Jane in a tuxedo in front of an altar with the river flowing nicely in the background of her mental image. She shook her head, trying to picture Pike instead, but it wasn’t working.
“Are you and Pike getting married soon? Or has he proposed yet?” Jane inquired, causing Lisbon to choke on air.
“Jane! I have been with him for six months! Are you crazy?” she asked, trying to regain her breath.
“I don’t know Lisbon. If I was dating you, I would have proposed after only a couple of months.” He shrugged, looking into her eyes trying to see if her eyes said what she was thinking. “You are a queen Lisbon, and I think you should be treated as one. You can call me crazy if you want, but if he hasn’t figured out that he is the lucky one, and if he doesn’t get you, someone else will.” With that Jane walked away smirking, like he knew what he put in her head.
Lisbon stood on her spot for a few minutes longer, shocked. She sent Pike a picture of the river in front of her asking him what if he thought it was beautiful.
His reply was almost instant, causing her to smile, ‘I wouldn’t eat any fish from there if I were you’ she read, her smile falling just as fast as it took for her to read the text. She put her phone back in her pocket walking back to where the rest of the crew was examining the body.
The next day Pike and Lisbon are eating dinner and he tells her he got a job offer in Washington D.C., and asks her if she wants to come with him. Lisbon smiles, but Pike lets her know she doesn’t have to make the decision now. When she gets home she takes her phone out, thumbing the screen as if she should call Jane or not, she looks at the clock, a little after 10, she knew he wasn’t asleep, but common courtesy says to not do that. The following day she gets to the office a little earlier than she has been coming in, noticing Jane laying on the couch, she walks up to him.
“Jane.” she whispered, gently setting  her hand on his shoulder.
“Good morning Lisbon.” He said without opening his eyes.
“Can we talk real quick? It’s about Pike.” Lisbon asked in a normal volume voice.
“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?” He sat up fast, her hand coming off his shoulder, looking her up and down.
“No, no. Nothing like that.” She said, noticing Jane relaxing when she said that. “Last night he told me he got a job offer in Washington D.C.”
“Good for him! But why are you telling me this?” Jane questioned.
“Well regardless of what has been going on, you’re still my best friend and I wanted you to hear it from me first. Pike asked me to move with him.” She looked him directly in the eyes.
“Oh… I see… You’re my best friend too Lisbon, and I think you should do what makes you happy.” He smiled with sadness in his eyes.
That is not what she wanted to hear.
-
Jane is noticeably upset, but if she was going to leave halfway across the county, he would tell her his feelings first. Was it cruel to wait until she had her house packed up, movers scheduled, and job arrangements made, maybe, but Jane didn’t care. One insomniac night at the FBI he was going through cold cases and found one that he just might be able to help close, and use to his advantage.
They are at a hotel in Florida, just Lisbon in Jane needed for some questioning and Abbott and Cho were expected before midnight that night due to another case that needed last minute assistance.
After Jane and Lisbon talked to four of the suspects, Jane knew who did it, but where is the fun in telling anyone now; plus he could use help with Cho and Abbott later that night. He had also reserved a table for him and Lisbon at the hotel lobby restaurant that he did not give her the choice to refuse, winking at her to wear something nice.
The two of them walked up to their conjoining rooms, Lisbon telling Jane she would see him later as she walked into her room. As soon as she shut the door she just wanted to land on her bed and take a nap, but there are three dresses lying on the bed stopping her from doing so. This has Jane written all over it, she thinks reaching towards the phone to tell him this is too much. She stops dialing on the phone when she hears a knock on the door. She walks to her door and answers it, seeing Jane there, letting him in the room, shutting but not locking the door behind her.
“Hi Lisbon. Have you decided what you are going to wear tonight?” He asked sheepishly.
“Jane, what is this?” she dodged his question.
“What is what?” He looked around.
“This.” She said vaguely gesturing around the room.
“A hotel room?” He asked.
“Jane.” She cuts him off..
“I thought you might want to dress nicely tonight for… our dinner. I guessed that you just brought work attire and some pajamas” Jane starts to explain.
“Okay. But for what reason? Why would I want to dress nicely for our dinner tonight? We are just getting a quick meal and hanging out before I leave for Washington D.C. Or am I mistaken, and caught up in one of your schemes now?” She sighs, already over this conversation. .
“I just want to spend time with my best friend and partner before she leaves half way across the country.” Jane hesitates, running his hands through his hair nervously. Lisbon has to fight herself to not grab his hand.
“But why?” she points to the dresses laying on the bed.
“Because I meant what I said.” Jane starts, “That you should be treated like a queen. That while it is killing me inside, if moving with Pike makes you happy, then that’s what matters.” He takes a deep breath in before finishing, “And I remember what I said before I fake shot you in your office, after I returned from Vegas, and I meant it, it just wasn’t the right time.”
Lisbon shifts her gaze away, just wanting to look anywhere but at him, she is sure that he would be able to see all of the too many emotions going on in her head.
“However, now I am choosing to be selfish for the night.” Jane states, “I would like to spend some time with my best friend before she leaves to the rest of her happiness.”
Lisbon reaches her hand up and moves Janes’ disheveled hair back into place as much as his hair allowed, barely noticing Jane leaning into her hand. After a few seconds she balls up her fist and lays it on his shoulder before sighing and telling him, “I hate you so much right now.” and dropping her fists to her side. Jane could not hide the look of shock and dismay on his face if he tried. “I already accepted a marriage proposal from my boyfriend, who is a really good guy.”
“But, you don’t love him…” Jane stated matter of factly.
“But he loves me, and he has promised me a future. What can you offer me? Lies that I have to accept if I want to be happy?” Lisbon finally meets Jane's gaze again.
‘Okay, that hurt.’ Jane thought before his thought was interrupted.
“And you know what’s even worse? I don’t even care if you lie to me, because I want to believe you and trust you, even if it hurts me in the end. The worst part of all of this, is that I don’t know if you’re telling me the truth but I do know I need to call Marcus and tell him it’s over and I need to cancel the movers. Damn it Jane!” Lisbon ranted before starting to turn away.
Jane reaches to lightly touch her forearms to catch her from turning away, “I told you I would not lie to you anymore, Teresa.”
Lisbon faces Jane again, not moving her arm, relishing in his touch, whispering, “I want to believe you Patrick.”
“Do what you have to do.” Jane smiles, “But know that the invitation is to open to dinner tonight if you want to talk more. I have a quick errand to run.” He squeezes her arm lightly before walking out of her hotel room and shutting the door behind him.
Lisbon watches the door shut, then looks at the dresses on the bed, but eyeing the pink one the most, before she notices her cell phone on the bedside table.
Later that evening, Jane is sitting at the table in the middle of the restaurant lobby when he sees Lisbon walk down the stairs in the pink dress but turns to talk to the hostess. After a minute she turns back around and Jane stands up smiling. When Lisbon is closer to the table Jane pulls out presumably her chair for her and does not hesitate to tell her, “You look like a princess, Teresa.”
Jane moves to where he was seated prior to standing up, seeing Lisbon blush while telling him to shut up.
“So what made you choose the pink dress? I had a feeling it was secretly your favorite color.” Jane asked, still smiling, glad Lisbon did decide to join him for dinner.
“Jane.” Lisbon decided to just get on with the unavoidable, “I called Pike after you left.”
“Oh.” Janes’ smile dropped.
“Yeah, I let him know it’s over. He asked me if I finally figured out my feelings for you. He even told me he wasn’t shocked.” Lisbon took a sip of the water on the table.
“And what are your feelings for me?” Jane asked, his eyes widening slightly with curiosity.
“Like you don’t know.” Lisbon stated.
“Tell me anyway.” Jane retorted.
“Well… Right now, I’m annoyed and upset with you for coming up with the elaborate scheme. Faking a threat to the FBI, Jane? Really?” Lisbon makes eye contact while asking. “Yeah, I asked the hostess about the towels in the room and she said that it was already included in the package that you paid for weeks ago.”
“Lisbon-”
“No. I am also sad that I may have ruined my only chance and the future kid me wanted. But I am also scared that I ruined it for a man that continues to lie to me.” Lisbon sighed.
“I didn’t lie to you. I told you that I would not lie to you anymore.” Jane remarked.
“See, you keep saying that,” Lisbon said angrily but quietly so as to not disturb the people around them, “ But what about this? Lying to the FBI?”
“I didn’t lie to you Lisbon, if you would have asked me if this was a scheme I would have said only a little. I know who did it. But, I also didn’t say I wouldn’t lie to anyone.” Jane said, starting to look over the menu, seeing the range of emotions between anger of being played, care of being told she was special to him, and shocked that he solved a cold case in a couple of days. “Would you like to get anything to drink?”
“I want to throw a drink in your face and never speak to you again,” Lisbon smirks, “but a whiskey to drink may be better.”
“I like the sound of that.”Jane smiles at her, seeing the waiter walk their way to take their drink order. They go ahead and order a few of the appetizers to share between the two of them. After eating a couple of bites of the appetizers they got Jane looks at Lisbon and says, “I’m sorry if I ruined your weekend- and your future.”
Lisbon looks at him for several moments, “I don’t think you did. You were right. I didn’t love Pike. I think I was in love with the idea of having the future I thought I wanted. I’m not sure what my or our future will be but-” Lisbon notices for the first time that Jane is not wearing his wedding ring.
Jane notices her gaze and chuckles, “It wouldn’t be fair to you if I kept it on. I hope you know I am serious about you. I’m not sure I can promise you what he was promising you, but I can promise you that I will love you and tell you only the truth until you decide you don’t want to put up with me anymore.” Jane stands up walking past Lisbon letting his fingers trail on her shoulders as he passes, leaving her with just her thoughts. Does she love Jane, does she want that future with him? Or does she just like the idea of what she could have with him? Jane comes back a few minutes later after paying the bill and sits back in his spot.
“Jane, I-” Lisbon breaks her own silence.
“You don’t have to say it Lisbon, I wanted years to tell you, I can wait for you to be ready to tell me. May I walk you to your room?” Jane stands back up extending his hand out to her, which Lisbon immediately grabs his hand and threads their fingers together. They make their way back up the stairs, swinging their arms slightly until they reach the door to her room, releasing his hand with a sigh as she unlocks the door. The door to the room stays open for a moment before Lisbon turns around, smiling “Do you want to come in?”
“On the first date Teresa?” Jane replies coily.
“Good night Patrick.” Lisbon rolls her eyes and enters her room, feeling him grip her wrist with just enough force that if she kept walking her wrist would fall, which causes her to smile a little.
“Good night Teresa.” Jane kisses her cheek before turning around and heading next door to his room.
Lisbon finally shuts the door after seeing Jane walk into his room, leaning against the inside of her door bringing her hand up to her cheek where he kissed her, feeling like she was on cloud 9. She shakes her head after a moment, and starts taking off her dress before jumping into the shower to clean the day away, before changing into pajama pants and a tank top. Just as she was going to climb into bed she hears a door shutting nearby, curiosity had her get up and look through the peephole in her door to see Jane leaving. Lisbon unlocks her door and opens it quickly, loudly whispering, “Jane!” causing him to stop and turn around like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
“Hi Lisbon” Jane answers sheepishly, adjusting his vest.
“What are you doing?” Lisbon questions.
“Well catching a killer of course!” Jane exclaims.
“I’m coming with you.” Lisbon says as she grabs a jacket and meets up with him
After meeting Cho and Abbott at the meeting spot, getting a confession from the killer, and having Cho and Abbott take them back to FBI HQ for processing, Jane and Lisbon go to the nearby 7-11 for case-closed ice cream between the two of them. They are going over details of the case to put on file, quickly turning to jokes and just two friends having a good time with one another. Once back upstairs in the hotel, they both walk into Lisbon’s room without thinking about it, Lisbon shedding her jacket while Jane takes a seat in the chair adjacent to the bed. Lisbon walks over to the bed after grabbing two plastic spoons from the mini bar. “Come here.” Lisbon pats the bed looking at Jane, “You won’t be able to eat ice cream over there.” Jane hesitates slightly before getting up and sitting next to her, leaving an unusual amount of space for the two of them. “I don’t bite Jane.” she says, closing the gap between the two of them, handing him a spoon before opening the pint of ice cream.
“From what I remember, you do bite.” Jane smirked, causing Lisbon to playfully slap his chest but with a smile on her face. “Does that mean you still do?” Jane cocked an eyebrow while looking her in the eyes, licking the ice cream clean off the spoon.
Lisbon doesn’t know if it was the day she had or the way Jane wasn’t breaking contact while working his tongue on the spoon, but she could feel herself melting like a ball of wax in the middle of a Texas summer. Lisbon cups Janes’ face in her hands and nibbles slightly on his lower lip for a few seconds, “You had some ice cream on your lips.” Lisbon smiled.
Jane wanted only one thing more than staying in that room, in her bed all night, and that was not ruining everything with Lisbon that he has been trying to fix since he came back from Venezuela. Jane stood up, throwing away the now empty ice cream container and spoons, seeing the alarm clock on the bedside table lighting up with 1:30 AM. “I think I should leave you to sleep now, goodnight Lisbon.”
“Wait, Jane, please.” Lisbon stood up, striding over to Jane pulling him into a hug, resting her head on his shoulder, “Thank you for tonight.”
Jane returned the hug still holding her, “No, thank you, for tonight. How about we get breakfast in the morning and talk a little bit more about… us?” Jane started to pull away but was stopped by Lisbon pulling him into another kiss. Jane held her again while returning the kiss with as much feeling as he could put into the kiss; eventually the need for air won and they pulled apart their foreheads resting together, smiling.
“Patrick Jane. Would you be my boyfriend?” Lisbon asked, not moving.
“Sounds a bit juvenile.” Jane cheekily replied before getting serious again, “Teresa Lisbon, I would love to be your boyfriend.” He barely got out before he was pulled into another kiss, this time he walked her backwards until the back of her legs touched the bed and they fell together on it.Jane worked his hands underneath her shirt, touching her back with his bare hands making Lisbon push herself closer to Jane wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist.
Lisbon wouldn’t say that night they made love per se, but it was much better than the angry sex they had on his make shift bed at the CBI. They fell asleep together, Jane finally getting some real sleep for the first time in a long time. In the morning they did get breakfast while Jane checked out of his room and extended their stay in her room. When they got back to her room, he made a second meal for himself between her thighs. The rest of the weekend they spent just enjoying each other, not worrying about what they would need to do when they had to return back to the world that consisted of FBI cases and having to pretend they were anything less than what they were.
~
AUTHORS NOTE: So in the CBI days, Lisbon had pictures of a dog on her desk so I included her to have a dog. also it's been like five years since I have wrote fan fic so please be easy on me, but if you notice any mistakes let me know and I will try to fix them! Also I have never been good with titles, hahah.

Stepping outside the police station felt like a strange return to the land of the living - although Akiyama had spent but one night behind bars while his involvement in the recent murder case investigated in Kamurocho was processed, it still had been a... Most enlightening experience.
A single evening, alone in a provisional detention cell had been a frankly eye-opening occasion; the Japanese police was really not looking to improve their reputation or manners - for a moment there, if the loan shark hadn’t been sure he had nothing to do with the Ueno Seiwa thug shot in the head by Arai, he would have doubted it himself given the sheer intensity of the interrogation.
Fucking scary - Akiyama could only imagine what they did to those who, unlike him, lacked basic notions of their rights and the money to hire a good lawyer, should the worst come to pass. A joke, really - an organization created to protect the regular citizens and instead causing them harm more often than not.
But his thoughts were completely derailed when he saw a familiar redhead figure outside - the moneylender paused, hand carrying his jacket over a shoulder dropping the item completely and almost dragging the piece of clothing over the pavement while he walked over to Lyla to say hello. Her look was an interesting one - a mix of evident curiosity with a side of judgement for his choices, apparently.
“Lyla-chan - wasn’t expecting a welcome party. I wasn’t locked up for that long, was I? What day is it?” he joked as he approached, but the woman snickered, shaking her head. Lyla then wrinkled her nose, making a face at something before taking a couple of steps and working on his shirt, smoothing the fabric off any wrinkles.
“Nah, your head is good, just the one night. Sent Hana-chan home after she got you released and said I’d pick you up when they let you go. Poor thing looks like she hasn’t slept in a couple of years...” Lyla commented and Akiyama found himself nodding - if it hadn’t been for the precious statement of his secretary, the police might have been even worse with him. His thoughts, however, were interrupted with a sound of frustration from the redhead, “How many guys did you fight in there for a bunk bed? Your shirt looks like shit, can’t get this to look any better. Jacket,” she asked, hand outstretched to the loan shark and receiving the item from him.
“Huh... No one. I was alone, but their beds are not exactly the five-star hotel stuff, you know,” the moneylender offered with a chuckle, watching Lyla attempting to make a miracle out of his jacket before dropping it over his shoulders and groaning in a displeased manner that had Akiyama laughing at her lack of success. She stepped back and crossed her arms, apparently on the imminence of giving up.
“Yeah, sorry, that’s the best I can do. You’ll have to live with the used car salesman look for today - let’s go, I’m taking you for lunch, then sending the expense receipts to Sky Finance and locking you into your office,” Akiyama raised an eyebrow at the next steps - not that he minded paying for the meal or anything, but Lyla seemed to be on a mission. As if on a cue, she grinned and explained:
“I promised Hana-chan. She deserves a break and you’re a handful, Akiyama,” her grin at the end, however, was a fond one. The loan shark didn’t have the heart to argue - Lyla and Hana working together was not something he should mess with if he didn’t want to find himself back in jail... Or worse. These two ladies could easily turn his routine into pure, unaltered chaos if they so wished, and not necessarily of the fun kind.
“Aye, ma’am. Lead the way then - now you mentioned it, I wouldn’t mind some decent lunch. Prison’s food not great either, I think I had better grub when living in the streets. Really makes you think, huh.”

Reunited - Sirius Black x Reader
Summary/(A/N): After 14 years, Harry’s Godmother is finally reunited with her husband. I made this sort of specific to whatever my own mind came up with; (Y/N) is Harry’s Godmother, and has of course known the Marauders since their school days. She’s known Harry since the events of POA, and she took him in. Harry and (Y/N) have lived together for the past two years, and although Harry has met and seen Sirius, the most that (Y/N) has received is letters. Finally, in OOTP, they’re reunited.
Warnings: None really, maybe a lil’ kissing scene <3
“Good morning my dear!” you said as you walked into the kitchen, where Harry was cracking an egg over the frying pan.
“Mornin’ (Y/N).” he smiled, and you walked over to him.
“Y’know Harry, you don’t have to make breakfast for us. Even after all this time I feel bad-”
“(Y/N), I’m fine, I promise. Besides, I already made you tea.” he nodded towards the counter, and you gave a pouty smile as you picked up the mug. “Sweet boy.” you cooed, and ruffled his hair.
You and your godson were enjoying whatever Harry had whipped up, and talking about the strange dream he had last night, when an owl tapped on the window. You took a swig from your tea mug and lifted the latch, letting the dusty creature inside. It gave a polite hoot, and you bowed your head in return.
You unfastened the letter from the owl’s foot while Harry filled a bowl with water and a plate with bacon scraps.
“Oh, it’s from Rem!” you hastily tore the envelope, and slipped the parchment through the folds. Sprawled across the yellowed paper was half-messy, half-loopy writing, which you’d grown quite familiar with.
“What’s he up to?” Harry asks nonchalantly.
Your eyes quickly moved from left to right, scanning over the message. Your brain hung onto specific words; Order, Phoenix, Army, The Dark Lord... and Padfoot.
You took a breath in as you read your husband’s name, and Harry peeked over your shoulder, raising his eyebrows. “What? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong, my dear..” you shook your hand, handing him the message. “It’s just..”
Harry immediately understood. “Well, that’s a good thing, right? You do want to see him... right?”
You whipped around, your updo falling loose. “Of course I want to see him! I just... I just don’t know.. “ you sighed, and sat back at the kitchen table. Your brain floated back to what Remus had written; how the Order was reassembling, and he was extending the invite to you, just like he had in the 70s.
Not only that, but he had scribbled something along the lines of “Padfoot will be joining us as well. I do hope you’re willing to see him.”
Of course you did! But it was complicated to explain to others. You were nervous. The most communication you’d had with Sirius over the past two years was letters. Most of his were on scraps of newspaper, so you always made sure to pack extra parchment into your envelopes.
Within the past few weeks, his message arrived a lot cleaner and appeared less rushed, which you appreciated. Each time an owl arrived, your heart soared. But in those letters, you couldn’t reveal anything about your lives, in case they fell into the wrong hands. That being said, the most you two could say to each other was “I love you”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was just after 7 o’clock, when Remus and a girl with purple hair had come to pick up you and Harry. She introduced herself as ‘Tonks”. Of course, you hadn’t realized at the time she was your cousin in law.
You both waved them off, Remus assuring them you’d catch up soon. You gave your Godson a kiss on the cheek.
“Be good,” you pointed your finger at him “Listen to Tonks”.
“I will, I will!” he teased.
When they’d both left, you and Remus sat on the tiny loveseat in comfortable silence.
“I wanted to check up on you,” he stated, and you looked up to reach his gaze. Oh, Remus. Your best friend. “I realize when I sent my letter it must’ve been a bit of a shock to you.” he placed his hand over yours.
“Oh yes, well, I think I might’ve frightened Harry more than anything. I’m not sure if he’s used to how dramatic I am yet.” you two laughed, Remus teasing you that it took him a long time to get used to it too.
Your laughter died down, and Remus spoke again. “He’s very excited to see you, (Y/N). In fact, he’s been fixing up his hair all day.”
You couldn’t even laugh. That was such a Sirius thing to do.
Your eyes glossed over at the thought, which Remus noticed immediately. He gave your hand a gentle squeeze.
“You don’t have to-”
“I want to see him Rem.” you cut him off, and you saw relief wash over his features. “I’m just a little nervous.”
It took a few minutes, but after a warm hug and Remus’s signature pep talks, you were ready to go. Never letting go of his hand, the two of you apparated to 12 Grimmauld Place.
Always a gentleman, Remus opened the front door for you, and you were greeted by the distant chatter at the end of the hall. Although you couldn’t see any faces, you recognized the voice of your Godson and his friends, along with that of Mad-Eye and Mrs. Weasley, to be followed by-
him.
It was that glorious laugh you’d waited 14 years to hear, the sound bounced around your head and you began to feel faint. Remus patted your shoulder, and you turned your head to look at him.
He nodded towards the end of the corridor, smiling. You took a deep breath, staring down the long hallway ahead of you. You brushed the stray hair out of your face and clenched your fists. As you began walking, you could hear Remus following close behind.
Your footsteps were booming across the corridor, your pace picking up with every step. Your breathing heightened and your heart was in your throat. You pushed open the door in front of you, and it slammed against the wall. The sound alerted the entire room, and you scanned over everyone’s faces. You finally landed on those eyes, his eyes, still as grey and dreamy as you’d left them.
“(Y/N)!” he shouted, getting up from his seat, looking anything but composed.
“Sirius” you breathed, tears already forming. The two of you ran towards each other, and finally, after 14 long years, you found yourself in his embrace once more.
It was tight and strong, he held you protectively yet with extreme caution. You sobbed into his chest, knowing that there weren’t enough words in the English language to describe how you felt at the moment.
Much to your surprise, and those in the room, Sirius began to cry as well. Not as much as you, but tears fell from his eyes as though he was only a boy. You held onto him, not wanting to let go, your hands digging into his jacket, and your face buried in his chest.
The world fizzled out around you, and you didn’t even notice how people were reacting to the scene. Remus leaned against the doorframe, wiping away a few tears himself; he felt so grateful he could see his best friends together once more.
Although they would deny it later on, Harry and Hermione hid their emotions behind Ron, the both of them on the verge of an entire breakdown. This was followed by Mrs. Weasley, who was sniffing loudly as her husband passed her a handkerchief.
Sirius was the first to pull away, and he cupped your face with his hands. He had a certain look on his face, as though he’d fallen in love all over again. He wiped away your tears with his thumb, and looked into your eyes.
Your knees might’ve given out at that very moment if he wasn’t there to steady you. “Even more beautiful then when I left you.” he spoke, barely over a whisper, his voice sending those familiar tingles down your spine.
You couldn’t even form words, you were so lost in his features. You only smiled, which he returned. “Why don’t we go into the other room, hmm?” he wrapped an arm around your waist, leading you out of the dining room. You could barely hear Ginny burst into loud sobs behind you, and how Mrs. Weasley followed suit.
He walked you down the hall, and you never took your eyes off each other, only breaking the gaze when he opened the door to the living room.
You two sat on the dusty couch in the dimly lit room, and he took your hands in his. You realized then and there how much you’d missed his loving gaze; at this point he was practically drooling at the sigh of you.
He wrapped his arms around you once more, his head resting atop yours. “I’ve missed you so much my love, so very much.”
You only gripped him harder, breathing in the smell of cigarette smoke and his old cologne. Your eyes pricked yet again; it was the cologne you used to spray on his pillow when he was first imprisoned.
“Sirius..” you said his name as though it were your only prayer. He hummed in response, lifting your face to meet his. You leaned in closer to him, your faces not even an inch apart. You closed the gap, your lips finally meeting his. You took in a breath through your nose, and butterflies began swarming in your stomach.
You parted your lips, which Sirius took as an invite, and his tongue slipped into your mouth. Your hands found their way into his hair, and his around your waist. You felt your cheeks getting wet, and you realized it was from Sirius. A few tears had spilled from his eyes, but he didn’t let up from the kiss.
It was full of passion and love, sprinkled with a bit of lust. He laid you gently on the couch, his body hovering over yours, and you finally broke apart. He gave a few gentle pecks down your neck, and returned to eye level with you.
“Oh darling..” you spoke, trying to contain the emotions that were sure to spill out of you. Both of you were at a loss for words, simply staring at each other, taking in everything you’d missed out on. You smiled lovingly at him, and the corners of his mustache quirked as he did the same. You giggled, fiddling with his locks.
“You grew a beard.” you stated, still admiring the sight before you.
“Do you not like it?” he asked, more so a rhetorical question than anything.
“I find it very sexy.” you reassured him.
He chuckled a bit, never taking his eyes off you. “Oh my dear,” he stroked the side of your face, and he brought you to sit back up. “I haven’t a clue how I managed without you.”
A certain emotion flashed over his eyes, and he fought off a grimace, trying to outrun the hell that lived within him. You placed a hand on his cheek, your wedding band giving a bit of a cold sting to his face.
He gently took your hand and brought it into view; his eyes crystallized once he saw the ring he’d given you so many years ago. “You kept it..” his tone was unsure, as though he was confused as to why you did.
“Of course I did Siri, I love you.” your heart ached for him; he must’ve thought you’d moved on before he’d seen Remus again. You remembered the conversation you had with Remus a few months ago, where he opened up about seeing Sirius again. They’d been writing every couple of months, and Remus had to constantly reassure him that you were still available; that you’d never given up on your husband.
“I’ll always love you.” you furrowed your brow in an attempt to conceal yet another sob.
“And I, you. My sweet girl.” Sirius placed a kiss on your knuckles, then moved back to your lips. “I love you more than you’ll ever know.” he mumbled into the kiss, and you felt yourself melt in his embrace, knowing that you and your husband were finally reunited.
hanging out with the team is easily the best part of the week. after spending days in Arizona with our focus entirely on the most recent case, my mind is practically ready to snap. I feel like I've been running on fumes, and when Penelope suggested we take the evening to hit our favorite bar, I was practically already out the door.
so now I'm sandwiched between JJ and Emily as we throw back our first shots of the night. my skin is already flushed with the elation of laughter, the pleasant thrum of conversation that surrounds us.
"that's bitter." JJ makes a face when she slams the empty glass on the table. I screw up my nose.
"why did we pick vodka?" I hate vodka.
"it gets the job done." Emily laughs. I shudder at the aftertaste that sits on my tongue.
Morgan wanders over, Pen on his arm while she totes a brightly colored pink alcohol. they're flirting as usual, but she pauses in her witticisms to grab my arm.
"we're playing truth or shot in that booth over there." she says to me, then gets the attention of the other two women. I let out a disbelieving laugh.
"truth or shot? like truth or dare but without the dare?"
"Reid, is that you?" Morgan says sarcastically. I slug him in the arm with a pout.
"be nice." but I'm giggling. he loops his arm through mine and we head back to the table, Penelope already starting a new conversation with JJ and Prentiss as they follow. Spencer is sitting in the booth with an Arnold Palmer, sipping from the straw like it's his job. I slide into the spot next to him.
"hi, you." I smile. "I haven't seen you at all tonight."
he holds up his glass. "I don't really drink."
"that's fine," I wave it off. "I just meant I wanted to hang out with you."
"oh." he smiles a little. "sorry."
"no big deal. you're here now." I shrug and turn to Pen as she calls my name.
"I'm gonna order a bottle. that okay?" she points to the bar with a mischievous smile. glancing once at Spencer and his slightly awkward position between Morgan and me, I make a snap decision.
"you know what? I think I'll just have a lemonade."
"you sure? Jayge said you spent the whole plane ride back talking about getting wasted--" Penelope's words cause a blush to spread over my face. I cut her off.
"I'm sure. thanks, Penny."
she nods. "of course, sweet cheeks."
I focus back on Reid, who is looking at me gratefully. he would never say it out loud, but I know he feels a little out-of-place sometimes. it's hard enough for him to come out with us to bars; the least I can do is be a sober friend. I open my mouth to start a conversation about an article I read the other day when Prentiss speaks.
"okay, so... who's ready?" her voice, always so certain, carries over the table. all of us make enthusiastic noises of assent, and she grins as Penelope returns with an armful of glasses. Derek gets up to grab the actual alcohol, and then when we're all settled in, the game begins.
"the rules are simple: you tell the truth, or you drink!" the tech analyst explains. the stakes for Spencer and me are lower, but that doesn't really matter. I'm excited to hear the team divulge their secrets.
"I'll start." Prentiss doesn't even hesitate before she looks at Morgan. "Derek, are you still sleeping with that one woman from sex crimes?"
Morgan raises his eyebrows at the question, irises flitting between Emily and the rim of his drink. there's a slight smirk on his face; he knows what a player he is and he's okay with flaunting it.
"Ally? no." he sighs. "things didn't end well between us."
"what? why?" I ask, eyes widening before I look around at everyone. "who is this woman?"
"cool your jets, sparky." Morgan teases me. "only one question per round."
"I'll tell you later." Prentiss raises her drink in my direction and winks.
"uh, no no." Morgan attempts to stop her, but JJ interrupts him.
"speaking of things not ending well," she says loudly. "Pen, why did you and Sam break up?"
"well," Penelope sticks her tongue between her teeth as she thinks it over with a devilish smile. her lips are a ruby red tonight, bright against her pale skin and big eyes. "to be completely honest, he just wasn't... doin' it for me. you know?"
"like--?" Emily glances down at her lap. Pen nods quickly and I snicker. JJ looks awestruck.
"I thought it was going so well."
"it was, but..." Penelope seems to genuinely think this over before she speaks. "if it's right, it just clicks. and it never clicked with Sam."
"profound." I compliment, high-fiving the high-energy blonde. we giggle before she turns to me with a glint in her eye.
"oh, do I have a plan for you," she smirks. "tell me, Y/N: if you had to sleep with one person on our team, who would it be?"
"women included?" I clarify, my cheeks suddenly on fire. how come everyone got easy questions except for me? I'm really just biding time.
"of course." she nudges my shoulder. I mull this over for a minute. I could say the truth, but I don't think that would be the right thing to do. however ironic that is. given the situation, I do something which I have never been good at and which I don't enjoy doing: I lie.
"although all of you are catches," I preface. "I think I would probably pick Emily."
Prentiss almost chokes on her own spit as her head snaps to see my face.
"me?" she asks.
"low-pressure fun." I shrug, the stress of the moment rolling off my shoulders with the ensuing laughter of my team members. Spencer takes a sip of his drink and peeks at me from his spot before I focus my attention to JJ.
we go on like this for a while, our original plan of "truth or drink" really just turning into a game of "truth and drink." as our laughter gets progressively louder, our questions and answers get progressively more provocative. we get into risky territory towards the fourth round, and I can practically feel Spencer's discomfort radiating off of him. thank god everyone has been taking it easier on him with their questions.
that is, until Morgan hits about five shots and decides to throw him to the wolves.
"so, Reid," he asks. there's no malice in his tone and I'm sure he's not meaning to embarrass the boy genius, but the question makes me wince anyways. "have we made any progress on the virginity front?"
it's like a fucking pall over the table. Reid goes rigid in his spot, and JJ's protective eyes dart between him and Morgan. Penelope's jaw drops.
"wait, Reid, you're a--?" her voice is tender, not judgmental, but Spencer's cheeks turn pink and he looks at Derek with a hurt expression.
"not cool." he says, body shifting in my direction. his eyes communicate everything; without a word, I know what he wants. I scoot out of the booth, letting him slip by me to walk outside.
truly, I'm speechless. we all stare at his lanky frame push through the door, but nobody talks until at least fifteen seconds pass.
"what the hell was that, Morgan?" JJ asks.
"I thought everyone knew--" he throws his hands up. "I swear I wouldn't have said anything if--"
"why would everyone know that?" I feel myself get angry for Spencer's sake. "that's an incredibly personal thing, especially to him."
"that wasn't you, my love." Penelope's voice is soft, sobered by the incident that just occurred. the playful air at the table is officially ruined, and we keep glancing at the doorway like Reid will come back in and everything will be fine. he doesn't.
"I'm gonna go apologize." Morgan starts to get up, seemingly beginning to realize the weight of his words. it's one thing to ask about Reid's sex life in general; it's another to point out specifically the entire absence of it. Spencer doesn't seem to be bothered by most things, but this is different. my heart hurts.
we watch Morgan go, the women all looking at each other with worried expressions.
"I feel bad." Penelope says.
"y'know, Spence never told me that." JJ observes.
"he really trusts Morgan." Prentiss says what we're all thinking. Morgan has always been like a big brother to him, and being embarrassed in front of your co-workers like that can't be a pleasant feeling.
we sit in a relative silence for about five minutes until Morgan walks back into the bar. he pulls out his wallet and pays for the drinks, then walks over to us.
"I'm gonna go for a walk. do you need me to call you all cabs?" he asks. those dramatic brows are drawn low over his face, emphasizing his regret. I look between my friends and clear my throat.
"it's okay. I only had one shot about an hour and a half ago. I can drive everyone home."
"okay," Morgan sighs, his head turning briefly to the door before focusing back on us. "drive safe, ladies."
and then he's gone.
"you guys ready?" I start to shrug my jacket on. they all nod and we get ready to go.
...
sitting in my apartment later that night, my head is swimming. even though it's none of my business what happens in Spencer's sex life, I wish I could tell him that it's okay. nobody cares at all if he's a virgin or not. but I know it's still embarrassing.
I hate that I lied earlier tonight, too. I wanted to say Spencer's name when they asked who I wanted, because I meant it. we're close, and I will always love him as a friend. but I've also always wanted more.
nobody, not even any of the other BAU women, know about my crush. I didn't want it to get in the way, or for it to come out and ruin my friendship with Reid. he doesn't like me like that, and that's fine, but what's not fine is not having him as my friend.
he was the first person I really connected with when I came here, and I feel a little protective over him, too.
once the clock hits eleven, I consider calling. he’s definitely not asleep yet. Spencer is a night owl. normally at this time he'd be curled up with a huge book, reading impossibly fast.
when he picks up on the third ring, the air leaves my lungs.
"Y/N?" he asks, more surprised than anything else.
"hey, Spence--" I hesitate, suddenly not sure what to say. sorry Morgan told everyone you're a fucking virgin? “do you wanna come over?"
maybe if I see him face-to-face, I'll be able to collect my thoughts better. the words hang in the air, festering over the line until I'm just about to take them back, before he replies.
"y-yeah. I'll be there in fifteen minutes."
my hands are shaking at my side when I open the door for the tall genius. he's still wearing his outfit from earlier, hair slicked back like normal. I've settled for my usual sweatpants and t-shirt winning combo. it's not like he cares.
"hey." I smile, trying to read his micro expressions. there are two possible outcomes here, knowing him: either he's going to be totally, completely over it, or he'll be able to write a War-and-Peace-length book on why he's upset.
"hi." he gives a wan smile and I let him into my apartment, closing the door behind him and gesturing to the couch.
"I missed this place." he says absently, looking around at the mess of decor and case files. I snort as I recall the last time he was here. he wanted to borrow a book that I had, and we ended up watching an entire docu-series about homing pigeons. it was surprisingly interesting; mostly because his commentary is both informative and funny.
"it missed you." I anthropomorphize my living space, but the phrase hangs heavy. I'm worried about him. I'm always worried about Spencer. he turns to look at me, opening his mouth to say something. I brush past him and walk into the kitchen. "coffee?"
"sure." he follows me like a lost puppy, leaning against the counter while I pull out two mugs and get to work.
"hey," I pause for a moment to look him in the eyes. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry-- about what happened... tonight."
"oh, that?" he scoffs, waves it off unconvincingly. "it's fine."
I raise my brows the slightest bit, never breaking eye contact. he wouldn’t have come if he didn’t want to talk about it. he cracks easily.
"it's just embarrassing, you know?" he says, staring out my kitchen window to alleviate his own nerves. I gesture for him to follow me back into the living room and I sit down criss-cross applesauce on the couch. he mirrors me, kicking off those cute black Converse.
"I don't think the fact itself is embarrassing, but I totally get why it feels that way. he shouldn't have said anything." I nod.
"like, that's personal. a-and--" he hesitates a moment, gesticulating wildly now. "and it's not like he's got any right! at least I don't go around with so many girls that I forget their names."
the thought of Reid sleeping with that many women is a little bit funny, but it also makes my stomach twist with jealousy.
"did he apologize?"
"yeah, he did. and he was drunk, I know." he rolls his eyes. "I'm overreacting."
"no, really, you're not." without thinking, I scoot closer to him and place my hand over his, which is sitting on his knee. I remember that Spencer is usually pretty averse to touch, but when I move it back to my lap, he seems a little disappointed. I wonder if he gets lonely.
"is it weird?" the question sounds raw, like he's mustering a lot to hear my response. I shake my head immediately.
"well, for one, Spence, I would never judge anyone based on their sex life, period." I chuckle. "and two, no way! if you aren't into having sex at this point in your life-- or ever-- that's totally your choice and you're entitled to it."
his eyes meet mine, pools of honeyed hazel that swim with a slightly amber shade. his face is so pretty, it's sometimes unbelievable to me that he doesn't get more action. bone structure that would make a sculpture envious.
"that's the thing," he licks his lips nervously before averting his gaze again. "I am interested-- I just don't-- well, I don't--"
"don't have someone to do it with?" I suggest with a slight smile. he nods, then clarifies.
"girls don't really seem to be interested in me."
I let out a laugh, unable to contain myself. his head jerks up to frown in confusion. I’m quick to amend myself.
"Spence, that's not true at all. you're such a catch! you're sweet and funny and way smarter than anyone I know. not to mention that you're adorable." I compliment, letting some of the thoughts I've been keeping to myself bubble to the surface. "any girl would be beyond lucky to be with you, sexually or not." Spencer blushes at my words, but the squirming in his spot tells me that it makes him feel warm inside. he smiles a little.
"you think?" it's genuine. he appreciates being praised, and it makes my heart flutter when he gives me that expression like I've made his night.
"I know." more of what I want to say rolls around my mind, unsure of whether or not I should admit it. but I think that right now, it'll only serve to make him feel better. "actually, I should tell you something."
"what?" he's curious now.
"when we were at the bar and Penelope asked who I'd be with... on the team... I lied."
"okay." he nods, somehow not connecting the dots. I guess it doesn't matter if they've got enormous IQs; boys are still clueless.
"I was gonna say you." the truth presses from the inside out, lifting a weight off my chest now that it's out there. even if he doesn't return that feeling, I'm suddenly glad that I told him.
"me?" he gestures to his narrow chest. I nod.
"yeah. I didn't wanna make you uncomfortable or embarrass you in front of our friends." I explain. he breaks into a grin.
"thanks." like I've given him something. I feel myself smiling as well, and then we're just looking at each other. tension that neither of us is willing to break. as much as I'd like to take him right here right now, he hasn't said anything about actually having sex or even about being attracted to me. for all I know, he could be completely indifferent.
"listen, Spence--"
"would you be willing to--" we speak at the same time, both of us stopping and laughing awkwardly.
"sorry, you go first." I offer, and he pulls his bottom lip between his teeth.
"would you want to... um..." he scratches the back of his neck before his eyes meet mine. "try it?"
"sex?" I raise my eyebrows. he nods. I try to find the right response. that’s more assertive than I expected. my pulse is fast, daring me to tell the truth. "I mean-- yes, I would love to-- but are you sure you want it to be with me, Spence? what about a girl that you like?"
"you are a girl that I like." he says this like it's matter-of-fact, like it's obvious. my heart stops in my chest before it starts to hammer.
"really?" a smile makes its way onto my face.
"I thought you knew."
"no." I laugh. my chest is full of sunlight.
"well, you are."
there's a brief silence where I try to get myself back on track. he likes me, too.
"are you sure you want to do this?" I glance at the space between our bodies, which has grown steadily smaller over the course of our conversation. Spencer is watching my every move with an intensity that tells me he's nervous.
"yes." he's unwavering.
"okay, well, you've kissed girls, right?" I inch closer. he nods.
"one."
"oh, Spencer," I sigh contentedly. "I have so much to teach you."
right after I say this, Spencer shifts uncomfortably in his seat. it's only then that I notice his hand covering his lap, the erection that's forming beneath his pants. my eyes flick up to his hungrily.
"sorry." he apologizes.
"don't be." our faces are inches apart and he's practically holding his breath. "I'm gonna kiss you. is that okay?"
"yes." he replies immediately. I place my hands gently on the side of his face, admiring the softness and sharpness of his jaw when I pull him to me, kissing him with a suppressed desire. his mouth is soft against mine, a little anxious to move. after a moment, he starts to relax.
his lips part and I deepen our contact, tilting my head and keeping it mostly mild at first. I don't want to shove my tongue down his throat. our knees are touching and his hand hesitantly finds my waist, the other going to run through my hair. I sigh into him, his fingertips a new sensation that I adore.
Spencer begins to give in a bit more to himself, asserting himself in the kiss and slipping his tongue over my bottom lip. I almost laugh at how quickly he gets the hang of it. he reads my body language effortlessly, not even skipping a beat when I climb into his lap and lace my arms around his neck.
"is this okay?" I pull away momentarily. he nods.
"you're so pretty." an unrelated response, but appreciated nonetheless. I laugh and peck his nose.
"thanks." and then we're back to making out, his hands resting on the small of my back. it's nice. I could stay like this forever, just pressed against Spencer while my fingers thread through his soft hair. he's cautious with me, and it's innocent.
I can feel his boner, can feel from the eagerness of his kisses that he's trying not to bring up the fact that he's literally just throbbing in his pants right now. in order to give him a little of what he wants, I start to rock my hips against his.
Spencer whimpers into my mouth. I stop and look down at him.
"do you want me to stop?"
"no, god, no— never stop." he's mindless in his reply, already grabbing my hips greedily and trying to regain that friction. I shake my head with a chuckle, then resume my actions. he starts to rut up against me, groaning into our embrace while his hands get more adventurous.
I withdraw, breaking the kiss to straighten up. he doesn't stop the microscopic pushes of his hips. I bite back a smile, enjoying the friction, too.
"do you wanna take my clothes off, Spence?" I ask softly.
"y-yes." he replies, gingerly taking the hem of my top and beginning to lift it over my head. when he places it on the couch beside me, his eyes immediately fall to my bra. slender fingers run up my bare waist, his watch glinting in the candlelight. when he doesn't immediately reach to unclasp my bra, I grab his wrist and guide it to the clasps myself. he moves with a surprising ease, unsnapping the thing and grazing over my skin as he slides the straps down my shoulders. I can tell that he’s shaking a tad, but it doesn’t hinder him.
the second that he's discarded the lingerie, he looks up at me with moony eyes.
"can I... kiss you?" he looks at my bare chest. "here?"
"of course, Spence." I nod. he presses his lips to the space between my ribs, drags them up to the valley between my breasts. lingers, then attaches himself to one of my nipples. I sigh, throwing my head back at the way he moves intuitively, sucking and running his tongue over the peak. he squeezes the other breast, plays with the nipple and starts to acquaint himself with the curves of my body.
the whole time, he's straining against my core, rutting helplessly in pleasure. it feels heavenly, with that sweet face of his so devoted to making me feel good, that I nearly stray from the purpose of the experience.
"Spencer..." I breathe. he moans at the sound of his name, then looks up at me from his place sucking on my tits. his teeth graze of my skin and I buck into his lap, causing him to groan appreciatively. my fingers tangle in his soft hair.
"Y/N," he pulls away from my chest, his lips making a soft popping sound. I gaze down at him, a bit lost in the fantasies running through my head. he's a natural. "can we, um-- like, expedite this process a little?"
"expedite the process?” I repeat back to him, giggling at his formality.
"what?" his voice goes up an octave, but he's smiling. "you know what I mean."
"I really do." I lean down, pressing my thumb into his jaw and angling his face up to mine to kiss. while his hands curiously move over my body, I start to push down the waistband of my sweatpants. I break contact just for a moment to peel them off, and he releases a quiet whine. it's cute.
"come back." he says softly, watching as I slide the bottoms down my legs, leaving me in my panties.
"I'm back." I peck his cheek, climb into his lap again. "can we take off your clothes, too?"
"mhmm." he nods. his lips part when my fingers work at the buttons of his shirt, undoing them with a torturous slowness. I can feel his eyes on my face the whole time.
"what?" I chuckle, peeking up at him for a moment before I pull his shirt open and run my palms up his chest, over his shoulders. he nearly shudders at the sheer touch.
"I just can't believe this is actually happening." he smiles in that way of his, like he's suppressing the depth of his emotions, with his brows slightly raised. I take the opportunity to enjoy the sight of him before me, his rapidly rising and falling chest, the smoothness of his skin.
"honestly?" I start to unbutton his pants, and he jerks up into my hand, blushing once he realizes the earnestness of his actions. I smirk encouragingly. "me, neither."
before I pull down his boxers, my eyes flick to his. "is this still okay?"
"Y/N," he groans. "if you don't do something, I'm gonna cum too early." he squeezes his eyes shut for a moment when my hand moves over his clothed erection, like he's holding on. "please."
"sorry." I release him from the confines. it hits his stomach and he waits for my reaction, as if he's afraid that I'll change my mind right now. but I'm definitely not going to. "holy fuck, Spencer."
"what?" he panics slightly, sitting up more. "is it not enough?"
"not enou--" I stutter, almost laugh. "no, it's plenty. I had no idea..."
"oh." he hides the pleased smile on his face, blush spreading over his pretty throat. in the interest of "expediting the process," I wrap my hand around the base of his cock and gently pump him.
Spencer's stomach tenses and he grabs onto the cushion of the couch with a tight fist, sighing.
"mmm..." he doesn't try to word his emotions, but I know. and I like that I'm making him feel this way, sharing this experience. Spencer and I are such close friends, I never thought we'd actually have sex. my assumption was that I'd watch him grow into himself, find a nice girl and treat her like a queen.
but here I am, spitting into my hand before jerking him off to prepare for what’s next. he’s throbbing, sounds coming from his throat.
"I'm gonna sit on it, okay?" I lean down to whisper in his ear. he touches my waist, my neck, kisses a random spot on my chest in the waves of pleasure that I'm giving him.
"o-okay." he mumbles, waiting for me to actually do it. and there's a moment of tense anticipation between both of us, when I sit up and pull my panties to the side. Spencer watches like I'm the only thing in the world, saving the memory of my body on top of his for later.
I run the head of his cock along my entrance, soaking him in the wetness between my thighs. I didn't realize how turned on I'd already gotten, and he lets out a quiet whine when he feels the evidence of how much I want him.
our eyes lock when I sink down. it's a new feeling for him, and the shape of his member as it stretches my walls causes me to bite my lip to withhold moaning too loudly. he whimpers, neck tensing and fingertips digging into my hips.
"o-oh." he sucks in a breath as I reach the halfway point. he's so big, I have to go slow in order not to overwhelm myself. but it feels good, too. like... unbelievably good. I grip onto his shoulders and my head falls forward into his shoulder.
"Spencer, holy shit." I moan.
"does it feel nice?" he asks, concerned for my own pleasure. I feel my chest flutter at the thoughtfulness of the boy wonder even when he's in the midst of losing his virginity, and I lower myself onto the rest of him.
"mhmm," I rest for a moment. "how do you feel?"
"like--" his breath hitches when I begin to rock back and forth on him. "like I've been missing out."
I can't help the giggle that slips past my lips, but then it quickly turns into a longing moan when he starts to thrust up into me like a helpless thing. Spencer is brilliant, but his brain cells go out the window when he throws his head back and begs me to move more.
I nod, raising and lowering myself until we reach a special pace. it's not fast or slow, just the two of us trying to stay in the moment while we hold on tightly to each other. I can feel the cool metal of his watch when he splays his hand out over my spine, the warmth of his breath while he pants against my shoulder.
he hits my g-spot over and over. my moans are torn from my throat by the burning of my lungs. it's like I can't breathe because I'm so focused on chasing the orgasm building in my stomach. and Spencer... I can tell he's almost finished.
the erratic nature of his jerking body tells me.
"I'm gonna cum..." he moans into my neck. "do- do you want me to pull out?"
"no." I arch my back and throw myself into the friction of our bodies. he stares up at me while I ride him, the merciless grinding of my hips because I just can't help myself. "oh my god, Spencer."
he notices how close I am and, in a surprisingly deft move, slides two fingers over my pussy to find my clit. the ensuing noise from me tells him that he's found it, and he begins to rub in quick circles. it's rough and hard, but that's exactly what I need right now.
"cum for me, Spence." I breathe. his free hand grips onto my thigh and pulls me over him, his own words unintelligible within the sounds of absolute pleasure.
"please." he begs for something I don't know, spills his seed inside of my pussy and holds onto me like I'm an anchor to this world while he peers into the next. the feeling of him spreading through my stomach, along with the reckless movements of his limbs and the way he looks at me while he rides out his orgasm, sends me over the edge.
"oh my fuck!" I collapse, grabbing his shoulders tightly and rolling myself down while he removes his fingers from my body. it's jarring, the intensity, like my normal functions can't respond correctly. all I can process is the tightening of my stomach, the pleasure between my legs, vision going slightly fuzzy at the edges. he moans when my cunt flutters around him, the muscles trying desperately to hold him here with me forever. I take deep breaths and slow down, my forehead dropping again while I start to remember my own name.
neither of us speaks. I think I'm still too in shock about what just happened, but in the best way. he keeps running his hands over my skin, then wraps his arms around my torso so that I'm pulled against his chest. I smile, kissing his ear before I finally break the silence.
"hi."
"hi." he's got a satisfied tone.
"do you need anything? water?" I ask, exhausted but realizing that this is still new for Spencer and it's my job to make sure he's as comfortable as possible. he nuzzles his nose into my clavicle and squeezes me tighter.
"stay here with me." there's a slight edge to his words. he's afraid of me leaving. I snuggle down, perfectly happy to remain. heat radiates from his skin, and I like the way it feels.
"of course."
we linger in each other’s arms, both of us coming back into the real world and holding on in an attempt to soften the blow. I just had sex with Spencer.
"thank you." he whispers into my hair.
"for what?" the smile on my face is lazy.
"for doing this."
"well, I really wanted to." I laugh. "so, I guess, thank you, too."
"you're quite welcome." his response is cheerful and then we're both laughing, the sound rumbling from his chest. "can we do it again at some point?"
"I would be happy to." I beam. the contented sigh that leaves his lips, followed by a slight sinking of our bodies down the couch in collective exhaustion, fills me with a joy that's quiet but obvious.
“I’ll last longer next time, I promise.” he says. I can practically hear the blush in his cheeks.
“you did amazing, Spence. don’t worry about it.” I press a few stray kisses to him.
I'll need to go clean up, soon, but it can wait a few more minutes. this is my favorite place on earth.
Your dad was fast asleep and there really wasn’t much activity for the rest of the day, just as the doctor and nurses stated. Everything seemed pretty normal and he was recovering nicely.
Jimin stopped by before his shift at the diner to check in. You were both having a nice conversation when Taehyung stopped by as well. He finally got his cast taken out yesterday but still hadn’t returned to work full-time. He did mention that he called and met with Jin’s friend, Namjoon and they set up a meeting sometime this weekend so that he could meet a friend of his who was an art agent.
As the three of you spoke, you saw Jin walk in and your face immediately lit up. He was in a suit–which did certain things to you and you thought that it was completely inappropriate to be thinking about those things while you were in the hospital room where your father lay closeby, recovering from major surgery.
Your friends exchanged knowing glances and took it as their cue to head out.
“You guys don’t have to leave,” you said with a worried look.
“That’s alright, YN. I gotta head out anyway before Yoongi sends a search party for me,” Jimin says as he gathers his backpack and jacket.
Taehyung chimes in. “Same. I told Mrs. Choudhry that I just wanted to look in. I only left Tannie there because her grandchildren were spending the night and although Tannie enjoys the free playtime, I don’t want to take advantage of it too much.”
“Oh…okay. Well, thanks for coming. I’ll let my dad know that you stopped by.” You gave them each a hug and they shook hands with Jin as they passed him by the door.
As soon as they were gone, he dipped his neck down to give you a kiss.
“Hi. I missed you,” he smiled.
You felt a flutter within your chest. “It’s only been a few hours,” you said, as he wrapped his arms around your waist.
“A long few hours,” he groaned.
“Did you handle whatever business you needed to get to?”
He nodded, not wanting to elaborate. “Still doing good?” He glanced over at your dad, who was still asleep.
“Yeah. The nurses have been amazing. Your uncle checked in for a bit, too.”
“Good, I’m glad to hear it.”
“I got a call from the private care agency, too. They said to just give them a call to let them know when he would get discharged and that they would send somebody within an hour of him being home,” you said, pulling away from him and moving closer to your dad’s bedside.
“That’s good. It means you don’t have to worry about him when you decide to get back to work.”
You smiled at Jin. He knew that you loved your jobs and he just wanted to help ease your stress.
“I don’t know if I can ever thank you enough…” you said while trying to stifle a yawn.
“Well, you can by letting me take you home so you can get some sleep. Visiting hours are almost over,” he informs you.
You sighed. “I know, but–” you said, rubbing your dad’s hand. You were surprised to feel him give your hand a soft squeeze, then slowly lifting his heavy eyelids to give you a smile and a thumbs up–a silent approval from him, letting you know that he was going to be just fine.
You smiled then gave him a lingering kiss on his forehead, telling him that you loved him before letting Jin whisk you away for the evening.
******
When you arrived home, you were set on making yourself some ramyeon when Jin took over and told you to relax.
It was late Wednesday evening–meaning there was a new episode of Unsolved Mysteries on so you switched the channel over and watched the episode.
You didn’t pay much attention to the episode so you recorded it anyway to view it at a later date, when you were a bit more rested and alert.
“Do you feel a little better now?” Jin rounded the couch holding the bowl of warm ramyeon that he handed over to you with a paper towel underneath to shield your hands from the heat.
“Hmm…somewhat,” you said after murmuring your thanks and taking the bowl. “I think the first 24 hours are always the hardest part,” you said as you twirled the noodles around your chopsticks and took a bite.
He nodded in agreement. His father had gone through a similar procedure but his condition was far more complicated since he had several blockages. It was a miracle that he made it through the first 48 hours.
“Like I said, he’s in great hands. And the private nurses will help out a lot,” he says.
While you slurped through dinner, he talked about how the nurses would keep your dad company during the day and then switch shifts in the evenings while you were at work for about six weeks until your dad’s next follow-up with his doctor.
You didn’t realize how hungry you were after you practically cleaned the bowl and got up to wash your dishes over the sink before you grabbed a glass and filled it with water.
“This must be costing you a fortune, Jin—I can’t—“
He turns his torso towards your direction. “I’m not asking to be repaid. Besides, some part of his insurance will cover it—it won’t be too bad on my end, seriously,” he assured you.
You took a sip of your water then sighed.
He gets up to approach you.
“Well…I guess you could technically repay me in a different way.”
“How?” You asked curiously.
“Kiss me.”
You snorted but he kept his piercing gaze at you. It wasn’t a request.
“Oh, you’re—serious?”
He hummed. “Kiss me and we’ll call it even.” He was already snaking his arm around your waist to pull you in.
You chuckled before tilting your chin up to press a soft kiss on his lips then pulled away too quickly.
He scoffed. “That’s it? You’ve gotta do better than that to cover the full amount,” he goaded.
You wrapped your fingers around his nape and pulled him lower to seal your mouth over his.
He deepens the kiss, pressing your body closer to him, his tongue rubbing along yours.
You pulled away once more…practically breathless.
“Better?” You asked.
He furrowed his brows and pursed his lips in an exaggerated manner, trying to pretend that he was ’thinking’ about it. “I guess…”
“You guess?”
“I don’t know. I’m thinking I might need to charge interest,” he smirked.
You threw your head back and rolled your eyes at how corny he could be sometimes but you found it irresistible anyway.
“Would you like to go to dinner on Sunday? I was wondering if you could join me and my sister.”
He has spoken fondly of her during your many conversations and from what you gathered, they were incredibly close.
However, his question took you by surprise as your relationship was fairly new. In a matter of days, things have certainly escalated. All of a sudden, here he was–standing in the middle of your bedroom, shirtless, and asking you to meet his sister.
Honestly, he could have been asking you just about anything and you would have said yes after he made you cum hard not too long ago.
“I promise she won’t bite,” he chuckled, as if sensing your apprehension before getting under the covers with you.
You grimaced. “N-no, it’s not that…What if she doesn’t like me?”
Even though you’d already let him into your world, letting you into his felt intimidating to you.
He grinned at how much cuter you got. “Between you and me, you don’t need to worry about Haejin…or my mom for that matter.”
“Okay–so what you’re trying to say is that your dad is whom I should be worried about?”
He bit the inside of his cheek. “Uh–no,” he chuckled nervously then cleared his throat. “I’m saying that you don’t need to worry about my family, in general. I make my own choices and even though I love them with all my heart, they can’t dictate whom I can or can’t be with. And I won’t allow them to.”
His assurance made you smile. “Alright. I’ll meet your sister.”
******
The following morning, you woke up to the sound of Jin’s phone going off. It was a little after 6:30AM and he apologized for waking you and took the call in your living room instead so you could get back to sleep. He was mumbling into his phone and it all sounded work-related. The problem was, you couldn’t get back to sleep any longer without him next to you so you decided to get up and make breakfast instead.
Before that, you called into the hospital to check on how your dad fared last night. The nurses said that he made it through the night just fine and barring any complications this morning, he’d be ready for discharge by early afternoon.
It was welcome news to you. You were sure that your dad was itching to get home to sit on his recliner and watch his old-timey movies and game shows.
Things had to change though because he needed a bit more activity in his life. Thankfully, the private nurse would be helping with that during the day and a few hours a night as you eased back into your old work schedule.
You called to inform the private nursing agency that your dad may be discharged before the end of the day. They assured you that somebody would come by your address later to check in once you were settled at home.
By the time you had stepped out of your bedroom and into the kitchen, you found that he was still on the phone conversing with some unknown caller to you. He stood with his bare, toned back towards you, holding his phone to his ear on one hand while the other rested on his hip, making his trap muscles prominent.
You drank him in while leaning against your door frame. His current stance exhibited an impressive and dominant presence in the boardroom–low, clipped tone and all–one that he reserved for contract negotiations and other business dealings. It was a side of him that you rarely saw because the Jin that you knew was affectionate, funny, and…just–Jin.
Right then, 'just-Jin' turned around slightly and found you ogling at him. He smiled at you briefly while maintaining the same serious, businesslike tone when he responded to the caller on the other end.
After blowing out a breath to cool yourself off, you took that as your cue to move towards the kitchen and make a fairly quick, no-frills breakfast—scrambled eggs and toast. You loaded the coffee machine with water and coffee grounds then turned the brew function on.
You put a few slices of bread in the toaster then took three eggs out of the fridge while Jin continued to hum and murmur his response over the phone.
You were in the middle of whisking the eggs when you felt his breath on your neck.
“Sorry for the early call,” he said as he kissed your hair before leaning against the kitchen counter.
“It’s all good. I’m sure they miss you at the office.”
“Yeah, just a few things that need to be signed and a couple of meetings that I couldn’t reschedule.”
You felt a pang of guilt—he had completely rearranged his schedule to be with you and you wanted to make it clear to him that he wasn’t on the hook for anything.
“Why don’t you just go in today? I’ll be able to handle things from here. I called the hospital and they said he did great last night and he could get discharged today.”
“That’s awesome! I can help you pick him up, or—“
“No, Jin. Go back to your routine. I feel bad disrupting your life with my stuff. You’ve already helped so much and I’m very grateful but you need to get back to work.”
There was some apprehension within Jin and he internally fought with his usual instincts. He wanted to make sure that you were truly settled—he didn’t need to get back to work if you needed him to be there for you. He wouldn’t make that same mistake again.
“Are you sure? You know, the beauty of being CEO is that I can do what I want on my own schedule. But if you need me here first, then this is where I’ll be,” he says.
Your mind wandered back to your past conversations about him getting complacent in his personal life and ‘missing’ signs and paying a hefty price for that.
You brushed the strands of hair that fell right above his eyes.
“Listen—please…go to work. I know that you love your job and you enjoy it. You have your life and I have mine…but at the end of the day, I’ll be right here. If you’re too tired to come over, I can come to you or we can just call each other. We don’t have to be together at every waking moment.”
“I know—I just…I don’t want to leave you at a crucial time,” he says, taking your hand.
“Oh my god, Jin…” You cupped his face and regarded him. “Whoever did a number on you last time—I want you to know that I’m not like that at all. I’m not the type to sit around waiting for a…a hero or a knight in shining armor and I do not expect you to be that person for me. You love me, I love you—that’s plenty for me.”
“Fuck…" He muttered under his breath as he clenched his jaw and leaned his forehead against yours. "Why couldn’t I have met you earlier?” It would have saved him so much grief—not having to worry about Miya, her family, and his parents.
“Well, we’re together now—that’s all that matters,” you smiled.
He pressed his lips to yours for a kiss. “I love you…so much—and I’ll love you even more once you start making me breakfast,” he chuckles.
“I mean, if you stop distracting me, maybe I can finally get to it!”
“Distracting you how?”
You raise your eyebrows at his bare chest then turn back to the stove.
“What? I run a little warmer than most people,” he says.
“Well, unfortunately, that doesn’t really help me.”
He leaned in closer and lowered his voice. “I still have plenty of time if you want to…get it out of your system?”
Your cheeks started prickling but you wouldn’t let him derail you.
Until you felt his lips caress the shell of your ear.
“Jin–” you warned him while he gently nipped at the lobe.
“Hm?”
He didn't stop there. His hand dipped right below your belly.
“We have to leave soon,” you said a little too breathlessly.
“I can work quickly,” he purrs as fingers disappear underneath your waistband to rub your already-aching center.
“Jin…” You said it with a lot less conviction than you were initially intending to since you had already lost your last bit of self-control.
“Jiiiiin…fuck…harder,” you gasped.
“Like that?”
“Hmmm…yesss,” you mewled as he ground his hips forcefully against you while you laid in a spooning position on your bed.
Your core tightened around his cock, your breaths turning ragged with your orgasm nearing.
“YN–” he rasped into your ear as the pads of his fingers continued to rub slow, circular patterns onto your clit.
Your hand fisted at the corner of your pillow as you buried your face into it moments before you let a deep, long, drawn out moan.
Not long after, you feel Jin’s groans vibrating against the crook of your neck as his hips go rigid with the hot, thick rush of his own climax.
Turns out he really did work quickly after all.
******
After breakfast and before leaving your place, he hands you the keys to his car.
“Jin—no…“ You tried to give them back to him but he just pushed your hand back.
“Please? It will give me some peace of mind. I’ll call my driver to pick me up from the hospital and bring me my other car.”
“Uhh…w-wha–you’re trusting me with your Tesla?”
He shrugged like it was no big deal. “I’m not worried. Besides, I charged it before I went to the hospital yesterday and it should last you a couple hundred miles.”
“Uhm–where do you think I would go that’s over a hundred miles away?” You asked incredulously.
He laughed at the face that you made. “I’m just saying–I know you’ll need it more than I do for the next few days.”
You shook your head at how crazy this was starting to get. First, he pays for private nursing care for your dad and now he’s loaning you a car.
“I promise I’ll give it back to you in a couple days,” you said.
“Eh, it’s fine. I’m in no rush. Also–there’s a charging station at the grocery store around the corner from your building–just in case you need it.”
You nodded absentmindedly at the tip.
”And…I guess this is a sign for me to take the DBS out more often now.”
“DBS?” You knew absolutely nothing about cars.
“Oh–that’s uhh–my James Bond car,” he smiles and give you a wink.
You shook your head again--still having no idea what that meant--as you left your home. He let you drive the car to the hospital so you could get used to the controls. It was a pretty intimidating car but thankfully, you weren’t driving it on a highway. You were at least grateful that it was black with matching black interiors–hopefully, you wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb. If you drove this to the diner, Yoongi and Jimin would totally have a field day.
When you arrived at the hospital’s underground lot, Jin’s driver was already there, standing next to another black car that still had the engine running. This one was a two-door and had a sleek body. It was an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera—the quintessential luxury sports car.
Right after kissing Jin goodbye, he got behind the driver seat and revved the engine which made you jump at how loud and intense it was.
“715 horsepower,” he yells out before putting his aviators on.
Again--no clue what that meant but my god, did he absolutely look sexy in that car.
You bit your lip as you waved goodbye to him as he pulled out of the lot.
******
When you got off your dad’s hospital floor and arrived in his room, you saw him sitting up and watching TV. It took a couple of hours for hospital staff to discharge him–which didn’t feel that long since you were able to help feed him his breakfast before he spent a few minutes trying to get used to being up on his feet again and taking a few steps around his room.
After he was discharged, you pulled the Tesla around and got out to see his jaw drop to the floor while the orderly wheeled him out towards you.
“Holy crap!” he exclaims loudly.
“Dad, the nurse said no extreme emotions, remember?”
“My god, YN–I can’t even marvel at a nice car?”
The orderly smiles as he helps your dad get in the car. If he thought that this was a nice car, you dreaded finding out his reaction to the other car that Jin left in.
******
After a few meetings at the office, Jin headed out of the building and drove close to your neighborhood. However, instead of pulling up to your building, he drives about three blocks past your street towards the waterfront and pulls into a gated parking lot housed under some modern-looking apartment buildings.
He takes the elevators up to the third floor. In this building, each floor only housed two units–it was very exclusive and secure.
He walks towards the unit to the right of the elevator–whose door was ajar. He knocks on it and is greeted by a male in a dark, tailored suit and matching tie.
“Mr. Kim,” he greets him with a smile and a handshake.
“Cut the formalities, Albert.”
This made the realtor crack up. “C’mon, Jin–I haven’t seen you in a business setting since I sold you your mansion a couple years ago.”
Hin waved his friend off. “Yeah, yeah. Where are the papers?”
The realtor snorted. “Always so impatient, Kim Seokjin.”
Jin follows him as he walks over to the expansive kitchen counter that was situated in the middle of the open floorplan. Right across from it were a pair of large bay windows overlooking the port and with a partial view of the bridge which currently glowed from the sunset reflecting off it.
The realtor then slid a few pages of documents that had flagged stickers inserted, showing where Jin needed to affix his signatures.
“Are you sure you don’t wanna take a look around? I can give you the grand tour?”
“You said it was a two-bedroom, two-bath, right?”
“Yep.”
“Did Jae see it?”
“Yeah, she did.”
“Alright. I trust her judgment,” Jin says as he continues to sign the papers.
“You always knew what you wanted.”
“I do. And besides—the bay windows in this living room?” He looked up briefly from the paperwork.
“I’m already sold. I think she’ll love it,” Jin says under his breath.
“Great,” Albert says with a smile.
“And you got the money that we wired this morning?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Good.”
Albert gathers the paperwork and puts them in his briefcase.
Before he leaves, he hands over some keys to Jin, all of which were labeled accordingly. “These are temporary until we get the keyless entry access point set up for you for the main entrance and elevators. You should already have an email to get access to the garage and everything, whenever you decide to move your furniture in—“
“Can I send these to Jae, too?”
“Oh of course, I already added her.”
“Good because she’s already ordering my furniture as we speak and getting it delivered tomorrow.”
“You move quick, Kim,” the realtor quipped.
Jin shrugged. “I didn’t see the point in waiting in this situation.”
Albert did one more quick sweep of the room to make sure that he didn’t forget anything else then turned to Jin with his hand outstretched for a handshake.
“Always a pleasure doing business, Mr. Kim.”
“Likewise, Mr. Liu,” Jin said as he shook his friend’s hand then gave him a quick bro-hug.
“Will we see you for Sky’s red egg and ginger party?”
“Yeah, for sure! I thought I already RSVP’ed?”
“You did. Just wondering if you wanted to switch it up and bring a plus one?”
“Oh—“ He never thought about it that way. The banquet wasn’t for another month but he thought it would be a good idea to bring you.
“Are you cool with me bringing a plus one?” Jin asked.
“Of course, man!" His friend chuckled. "Alright, I gotta go. Baby duty!”
After his friend leaves, Jin looks around the empty room. He thought that he had sworn off living in the city but you unknowingly pulled him back in.
As he walked towards the window and stared at the view, his thoughts settled on you. He had made a lot of impulsive decisions recently–which was a bit out of character for him. He always had a plan and a corresponding backup plan for that. He was always very calculating, especially when it came to risky moves. He always wanted to ensure success–which was one thing that he and his father had in common.
You were the biggest risk that he was taking–and he seemed oddly fine not having a concrete plan about that. There was a lot of uncertainty there but one thing he knew for sure–was that he was willing to give up everything to make you happy. If he managed that, then it would count as a success in his book.
Back at your place, you were helping your dad settle in. The private nurse had arrived and checked in to make sure that he was comfortable. She also gave you a few tips as part of his post-op recovery if and when there was a gap in coverage during a shift change. She was very helpful and it felt like she really cared about what she did.
Since it was getting dark, you shut the blinds by the window before walking towards the kitchen to prepare dinner along with your lunch for tomorrow since you were returning to work. Your dad sat happily in his favorite recliner, already watching re-runs of his favorite game show.
Across the street, a nondescript black car with tinted windows sat quietly. A shadow looked up at the lit window that belonged to your apartment. It was unclear how long they had been there but after being seemingly satisfied with whatever they saw, the shadow then released a deep breath. Shortly after, the car pulls out of its parking spot and leaves.
Not My Father
Aaron Hotchner x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader gets arrested at a bar. Her boss comes to save her, but after months of frustration she doesn't get the response she expects. However, she receives much more than she can handle.
"That pervert is lucky all I did was break his nose" You roll your eyes at officer idiot questioning you. Treating you as some sort of criminal, when in actuality you put the worst of criminals away. "Well we called your supervisor; you can take it up with him" The officer snickered, a lump instantly formed in your throat.
"You called who?" You yell at the dumbstruck officer in front of you, clearly not expecting your panicked response. Just after the words left your mouth, your boss crossed the barrier into the holding room. Your stomach instantly flipped, as if you had been caught by a parent as a child. Your eyes meeting his; he stared with the same scolding glare you were expecting. The same look you'd seen many times; it always gave you chills. However, you had never been the one sitting on this side of the table feeling its full force. He folded his arms tightly over his broad chest, eyes lingering at the cuffs connected to your wrist.
At that moment, you couldn't find words to defend what he was seeing, you could only imagine his thoughts. Your barely appropriate dress, your makeup, unlike anything he had seen at work. He finally peeled his eyes off of you, somehow that making you feel even worse.
"Please remove the cuffs, I can handle it from here. Thank you again for the call." Hotch finally spoke, but only to the officer, nodding to him. He returned the nod and quickly walked over removing your restraints.
"Thanks." You gripped at the idiot who arrested you, rolling your eyes at him again. Hotch shot you a warning glare, causing you to sigh while massaging your wrists. This night was utter bullshit. The officer finally left the room, you stood expecting to follow.
"Where do you think you're going?" His stern voice forcing your body to freeze, sending chills down your entire spine. "Um, I thought I was allowed to leave." You replied without looking directly at him, you didn't think you could handle it right now. "You have nothing to say for yourself?" Hotch scoffed.
"I'm sorry?" You questioned, failing to sound sincere. He doesn't respond this time, after an uncomfortable moment of silence you finally looked to meet his stare. He let out a frustrated sigh "Let's go. Before I change my mind." He cautions before leading us through the police station, again thanking the captain and same officer.
"Where is my car?" You ask once outside after you were returned your phone and I.D. "I'm guessing still at the bar you were picked up at, or by now at a towing company. You can deal with that in the morning, get in." He answers not stopping his strides toward the black SUV. You hurry to enter, afraid he might leave you here, the cool night air sending additional chills over your body, still buzzing from earlier.
The ride has an eerie silence, you had never made Hotch this mad at you, the feeling honestly made you want to hurl. You notice you aren't familiar with the street signs you were passing. "Can I ask where we are going?" You break the silence. "My place." He answers blankly, not removing his attention from the road. "Why?" You dare to question. "Because it is late, and you were picked up from a bar." He shot back gripping the steering wheel tighter, not seeming to give you another option.
After ten more agonizing minutes, he finally pulls into a parking garage. You quickly jump out of the car, following Hotch through a few hallways. You felt a wave of awkwardness once he finally stopped at the door. He quickly unlocked it and opened the door for you. You look at the open door, feeling like it was a threshold you shouldn't enter.
"Look I'm fine, I can call a cab to take me to my car." You insist, still not crossing the threshold. "No. You shouldn't be driving, you can stay here." He replied like it was an order. "We aren't at work." You spat not believing him. "Lower your voice, your yelling will wake others." He corrected you again, you noticing the clenching of his jaw. You groaned pushing past him into the apartment.
"Look I appreciate this but.." you start to continue your previous argument but his deep voice cuts you off. "You're correct agent, we are not at work. Meaning, that I did not have to leave my home in the middle of the night, coming to save you from being thrown in jail. You're lucky Jack is away or you would've been there until Monday." He chastised you again, but this time he was right. Although; still being a dick to you of all people.
"I didn't ask you to, I didn't even tell them I was an agent so don't try to make me feel guilty." You plead your case as he began to walk away. "I'm not trying to make you feel anything, maybe if you had more control of your actions you wouldn't be in this situation." He argues turning back in your direction. You finally noticed his different appearance, no jacket or tie, but jeans with an athletic shirt, his hair not styled but falling casually onto his face.
"I don't even want to be in this situation, I'll just go to my car." You huff turning back walking to the door. You just reached the handle, when a large hand came in your line of sight, pushing against the door.
"I'm not letting you leave like this. I don't know your mental state." You hear spoken close behind you. You spin on your heels, slightly taken back by how close your boss was to you. "I promise I'm fine. I wasn't drunk, and it's been hours." You roll your eyes again. "Obviously not, I have never seen you act like this." His voice was desperately trying to hide his frustration with you for the evening, you could see his chest rising against the fitted shirt.
"What? Not perfectly following your orders? Not everyone is perfect like you Hotch." You were yelling at this point, and you didn't care. You had never seen a person with more patience and composure than Hotch, but you finally broke him. "You allegedly assaulted someone at a bar drunk, get arrested, risk your career, the reputation of the BAU, and my credibility as Supervisor. You honestly think you should go back out right now?" He yelled back shocking you, feeling his minty breath fan across your face.
"You don't even know my side of the story!" You gasp at his assumptions. "How am I supposed to when you wouldn't tell me?" He hisses, still holding his same position, you had never seen such fire in his eyes.
"You are not my fucking father Hotch" You yell again, refusing to let him overpower you.
Your back hit the door with a thud, causing you to groan into his mouth. His hands gripping onto your hips roughly, pulling your bodies as close as possible. One of your hands latching his shoulder to steady yourself, while your other tugged at his soft hair.
"Then stop being a damn brat" He all out growls directly in your face, not missing a beat. Your not sure who moves first, you honestly think it was instantaneous, but before you blinked your mouths clash desperately, hands frantically grasping onto wherever you could reach first.
You purposely tugged harder, retrieving a groan from him, hearing it igniting a hunger in you. His lips slightly parted, so you took advantage sliding your tongue over his, still determined not to be overpowered.
Your control is short-lived, as he shifts his leg up, making you gasp at the contact, your head craning against the cold door. Even on your tiptoes, you couldn't relieve the pressure, perching you upon his thick thigh, causing your dress to bunch leaving only your damp underwear as a barrier.
"Did you think after your little game, I'd let you control me, sweetheart?" He huffs against your ear, in an even deeper tone than he usually held. You had never been affected by a pet name, but just coming from him made your walls clench, further agonizing you. You finally open your eyes, batting up at his dark eyes innocently. "I don't know what you mean" you smirk. You felt a low chuckle in his chest, and then you were swiftly moved, flipping you to face the door.
"I'm having a hard time believing that y/n. You've spent months purposely teasing and frustrating me. This..." he pauses his sentence, using his foot to spread your ankles, gripping your wrist together. "Is exactly what you wanted correct?" He completes the question as a whisper against your ear, making you shutter against him. You weren't giving in that easy.
"I honestly didn't think you had it in you...old man." You further push him, knowing your slight age difference being one of the things you regularly tease him about. He groans lowly at your words, pushing you harder against the door. "I still remember exactly how to handle a brat like you"
He punctuates the end of his sentence by effortlessly ripping your thin underwear from under your skirt, throwing the torn fabric to the floor. You shook at the cool air hitting your core, finally noticing how wet you were. His fingers brush over your center, gently spreading your arousal. You bite your lip to keep in the moans your body desperately want to release.
"Then why are you so wet for me sweetheart, hum?" Hotch hums in your ear, pushing his thick finger slowly into your pussy. You don't bother trying to hold in your moans this time, overwhelmed by the feeling of your muscles clenching around this finger, attempting to take it as deep as possible.
As if a single finger wasn't enough, he added a second stretching you delightfully. You scratch against his hand, as if some sort of plea, but the last thing you wanted was for him to stop as you could feel the pleasure building in your stomach. "Something wrong?" He coos arrogantly, watching your face morphing, as your pants of pleasure increase.
"Nothing" You manage to smart back without it sounding completely of a moan. By this point, you drenched his fingers, coating them entirely, letting him fuck his fingers into you as fast as he pleased. You hear a faint growl come deep from Hotch's chest, almost sounding frustrated. "Don't you lie to me; If you are not honest you don't get what you want sweetheart" "And what do I want?" You laugh through a heavy breath.
He shifts an unoccupied finger up to graze your clit every time his fingers plunge into you, making you gasp against the cold door. He leans down to your neck, tickling your skin with his beard. "To be fucked like you wish those boys you entertain would fuck you." Hearing your boss talk like that sends you spiraling, throwing your head back onto his chest to support you as your legs began to feel weak. Just as you clench around his fingers he retracts them, leaving you dripping down your thigh, craving satisfaction.
"What the fuck?" You yell spinning quickly to face him, he catches you by the neck placing you against the door again. Your breath caught, you felt like you didn't have a voice with his large hand around your throat. The way he was staring at you, like his prey. It made your knees weak.
He lifts his other hand between your bodies, you could see his middle fingers glistening. He keeps his eyes nailed to yours, you still trying to calm your pathetic pants. Your mouth gapes as you watch him take the fingers in his mouth, he groans out twirling his tongue, his eyes fluttering shut for a moment savoring your taste. You were fucked.
He removes his fingers slowly, still watching you staring at him with big doe eyes. Then wiping the edge of his mouth with his hand. "Watch it, sweetheart. I'm not sure if you haven't caught on... but I always give the orders. You will not cum until I allow." You whimper loudly at his declaration, you had never had a man command you like this, but you couldn't deny the effect it was having on your body.
"I'll do what you say." You whisper, barely audible, looking away from his eyes. Loosening his hand on your neck, using it to make you look back up to him. A faint smirk now played at the corner of his lips. "What was that?" He lightly chuckles. You suppress the urge to roll your eyes.
"I said I'll do what you say. Happy?" You return the smirk. "Hmm, honestly I thought you'd be harder to break. I think you're just trying to get what you want." He informs you, moving his face closer to yours. You shrug your shoulders innocently. "Is it working?" You breathe against his lips before gripping onto his shirt pulling him flush against you.
His mouth explores yours again; it's without a doubt the best kiss of your life. He was so skilled in his movements, and how he taunted you with his hands without actually pleasuring you. Maybe you had been dealing with boys before.
Hotch gripping into your hips, lifting you slightly before walking your bodies away from the door. You hardly notice he was moving you until your legs hit the back of a couch. He instantly spun you around making you a bit dizzy, folding you at the waist over the couch.
You couldn't help the smirk that grew on your face hearing the chime of his belt buckle, you were getting exactly what you wanted. "I wouldn't gloat so quickly y/n" Hotch warns. You try to look back to observe but cannot move from him keeping a hand on your neck, pushing your chest into the oversized cushion.
"And I shouldn't because?" You entertain his warning. "Because this" is the only answer he provides, and you then feel the pressure. That of him forcing his cock in you with a single plunge, burying himself to your brim, ripping through any defiance left in you.
"Aaron!" You scream out his first name, gasping for the air he just knocked from your stomach. He was massive, stretching you uncomfortably, you didn't have to see it to know you had never taken a cock this big. You were also sinfully a sucker for pain.
"Fuck" he groans above you, surly your tightness was affecting him also. You knew that he rammed into you purposely, not wanting you to be able to conform to his size before punishing you.
He made the single motion again, burying himself again and stopping, making you cry out again. "What's wrong sweetheart? A brat like you can take it right?" His breathing is labored now, one hand still tightly holding you down, the other now roughly gripping your hip. He repeats the same hard single thrust, you can feel tears building at your lashes. The way he filled you was overwhelming.
"Please" you beg, squirming under him. You weren't sure what you were begging for at this point, you just needed him. Every time he stills you could feel his cock pulsing deep in you, not delivering enough pleasure to relieve you, but only to further drive you mad.
"Oh, now you want to do what you're told huh? Now you beg like a pathetic whore." He responds with another snap of his hips. You couldn't take much more, you felt as if you could combust at any second. "Aaron I can't..please" you cry, feeling the tears stream over your face, he had finally broken you.
"Go ahead baby, call me what you really want. Go ahead." He groans, pulling your head back by a fist full of your hair. He didn't have to say it, you knew exactly what he meant, and he knew you wanted it. So you let everything out, all the months of frustration boiling over.
"Daddy, please...I'm yours...please" You wish you could've recorded the sound that escaped Aaron at that moment, a loud groan mixed with a needy whine. Matched by feeling his cock twitch inside you, struggling to stay composed hearing that name.
He throws his hips into you again, but this time it follows with another quick thrust, over and over, filling the room with a slapping noise and your moans. He keeps your hair pulled back, making your body hold the arch for him to angle deeper, brushing your g spot with each hard thrust.
"Yes yes yes, don't stop" You scream, him finally giving you what you needed. "Can you take it, baby? You're so damn tight" He grunts, you weren't going to last with him calling you baby. "Yes, daddy, harder please" you plea, wanting him to ruin you. He grants your wish, fucking you harder, you gasping feeling it all the way in your stomach. You would certainly be bruised tomorrow, but the pain would be worth it.
"Fuck daddy. So good... so fucking deep." You cry, feeling your body begin to tingle, your legs shaking against him. He groans feeling you tightening "Cum for daddy sweetheart." He encourages through his heavy breaths, and that's all it takes to make your body snap. He slows his motions slightly letting you ride out your orgasm, your walls still fluttering around his thick cock.
He releases your head, you not having the energy to stay upright you letting it hang down against the couch. "Shit that's was amazing" You whisper, causing him to chuckle and slowly begin to move into you again. Your eyes flash open realizing he still hadn't finished.
"Aaron I can't" you whine, your body couldn't possibly take more of this. "Oh I'm not finished, and neither are you" He growls in your ear, you couldn't help but moan out at his tone. "I can't take anymore" You whine again, only fueling him. He releases the hand that was holding you, now gripping onto both of your hips harshly, definitely leaving a mark. There was no reason to restrain you anymore, he knew you were his.
Hotch returns to the same pace he held previously, causing your eyes to roll back as you yelp, grasping onto the couch for dear life it felt. "Don't forget your place sweetheart. You're done when I say brat..." he pauses his sentence, repositioning one of his hands to your front. "And I think you can give me one more." He states as he set fire to your body rubbing fiercely over your clit, steadily pushing himself deep, determined to make you unravel again.
"Daddy" You scream, feeling your body giving in to him, his thrust becoming frantic, his moans become beastly with each thrust. "Give it to me y/n. Ahh... fuck. I know you want to baby." Is his final pleasuring cry to take you with him, as he made a final slap against your body to sheathe himself fully.
"Oh, Aaron" Is all you can cry as the air hitches in your throat. All at once, your body erupts again, feeling him filling you with his seed. Grasping onto him to anchor yourself to reality, uncertain this level if euphoria is real, or if you'll ever get to relive it again.
Drained of any energy, your body collapses into his, feeling his arms catch you and lifting you sweetly into his embrace. Although; unable to open your eyes, you feel him carefully carrying you, and then the soft cushion of a bed. You weren't sure how long he was gone, but your body slightly jumps at the feeling of a wet cloth between your thighs.
"Wha..what are you doing?" You mutter against a pillow and hear him softly laugh at you. "I've got you, sweetheart, just rest" He replies in a very tender voice. He softly wipes your leg, erasing the proof of your shared pleasure. Even half-conscious you had never felt so adored. Following; you feel him slide the heels off your feet, and then tug at the end of your dress to remove it. Your dress is finally off, and you feel it would be silly to care about after the deed you two just committed.
You are only naked for a couple of seconds before he wiggles a soft t-shirt over your body, oversized enough to be a nightgown. It smells strongly of him, which comforted you, but not as much as him pulling you into his bare chest, kissing your forehead just as you slip into an exhausted sleep.
Please let me know if this should be turned into a short series! Thanks loves!
